Mikunology Reviews: Boku wa Hatsune Miku to Kiss wo Shita (2013) (Pt.2)

Alright, here we are with Part 2, where I will chat about the album's second half! Let's get to it!

Ii, Er Fanclub: I think anyone who vaguely knows of Mikito has heard this one, if it's not ROKI. XD This is another more goofy, fun track about Rin and Gumi being fans of Chinese culture. And I love it! It's a great song, the back-and-forth between Rin and Gumi is so fun to sing along to - the inclusion of actual Chinese words is really fun as well. The drums are great here too. There's not really much I can say on this one that isn't just regular praise?? I highly recommend checking out it's PV by the wonderful Yori and Ryuusee! (Actually, I do have one comment I want to make: unpopular opinion, but I like this original Rin & Gumi version a lot more over Giga's Miku & Len mix. The goofy charm of the original song just jives with me more, although Giga's tuning is stellar.)

Wednesday Blue: This is another remaster, this time of one of Mikito's much older Miki originals. This is more typical rock'n'roll-style track, and it's a bit noisier than Mikito's usual fare. Unfortunately, I do think it's my least favorite on this album: it's a bit…all-over-the-place, compared to Mikito's later work? The Miki vocals are clearer and a bit better than the original NND upload, but they're still notably clunky in some places which can kinda take me out of the song. That said, the song as a whole isn't bad or anything, and it's actually pretty catchy after a few listens - it's just kinda clear this song was written by a less experienced Mikito. (Not to poke fun - everyone starts somewhere!)

Setsuna Plus (Momentary Plus): And here we are, back to Miku Dark again. This song is a bit more abstract in terms of lyrics, I think, but I still find myself coming back to it. There's not much I can say about this one either, honestly? Other than that it's good and that I like it - it has that usual great atmosphere again. However, I do have a slight criticism, I think - as much as I love the way Miku sounds here, I think this song could have done with a bit more powerful vocal instead, after hearing a few covers with characters like Amaga Eru (who can be pretty loud in her base voicebank).

Sarishinohara (Distant Fields): I remember not being too keen on this track at first for some reason? I don't know what was up with me because this song is really lovely XD This is a rock song about the forbidden love between a boy and his best friend and classmate, who has become an idol (and since idols can't date, she can no longer see him). There's such a tragic, melancholic feel to this song that really gets across the pain the boy is in, both in that he can no longer be with the girl despite her being "everywhere", in a sense, both in the instruments and in Miku Dark's vocals. Personally, I find this to be my favorite in the "Sarishinohara" trilogy, since 1) I think the melody is a bit easier to get into compared to the others and 2) just the sheer vibes.

Secret DVD: Ah, this one…the spicy one. A more straightforward rock track with a bit more "vanilla" Miku voice instead of Miku Dark, about doing sexy things. I actually like this one quite a bit despite the mature subject matter - it is pretty catchy, and the guitars are really good here. There's a part in the second verse where there's a harp-like strum and it's really satisfying. I also gotta say, something I always appreciated about Mikito's more sexual songs is that they're usually written in a manner that actually makes the act sound romantic rather than…well, you know. XD (*looks at REOL and Umetora*) I recommend this one for the music alone even if you're not into the song lyrically.

Salad Banya Cauda: Now for something completely different! XD This is one of the very few completely album-exclusive tracks, since I believe all of the tracks on this list have been released with PVs with the exception of this and Gariben Hirose no Shouri. This isn't really a rock track at all - it's a cute little folksy-type song with more acoustic instruments and simple Miki vocals (with the exception of some electric guitar between verses). I like it, though! It's a cute song, it makes you feel like marching through some sunny trees to find some berries or some adventure. However, I do think it can come as a surprise given the vibe of literally everything else. I think you might enjoy it, still!

Gariben Hirose no Shouri (A Geek's Huge Victory): OK, back to rock - this is the other completely album-exclusive track, and honestly? I've come to like it quite a bit. It has that signature nice Mikito J-rock vibe, with some lovely Gumi tuning to go with it. There's not much I can say about it that I haven't said for other songs on this CD, though? Just more of the same good stuff, I suppose. XD However, I really like the end part, where Gumi starts singing some "lalala"'s - something I like about Mikito's rock songs is that some of them feel like they could be played at the end of movies or as ending themes to anime episodes, and this is definitely one such song with the way it plays out.

Sayoko: Ah, this is another famous one. Sayoko is a soft J-rock track about severe depression, and once again uses Miku Dark - I think this is a really brilliant use of her, though, it really fits the song's theme since Miku sounds so melancholic and tired here. The melody is again a bit more understated, but it also really fits. I'm running out of things to say about the music itself XD I really think this song has a great calming vibe to it, despite the sad lyrics…I think someone could find it a great comfort, especially if you relate (like me!).

kiss: Finally, the last track, and the single collaboration on this CD: featuring the great Vocarock producer keeno! Together, he and Mikito form Mikeeno! (I love it when producers do that.) Predictably given their respective work, this is a slow, calm rock ballad about love. Now, I'm not the hugest fan of rock ballads? But I really love this one: the lyrics are really sweet and wistful, the lead guitar is perfect and Miku Dark returns to the gentle sound usually associated with both these producers. If you really like songs like "glow" or the slower songs I've already talked about on this album, you'll definitely love "kiss".

And that, my pals, is the whole CD! Yeah, all in all, for a first album, I think this is an amazing start for Mikito-san and an absolute must-listen if you are an enjoyer of Vocarock. Sure, he isn't the hard-rocking 164 or Utsu, but the soft and atmospheric yet fun and lively tunes by Mikito are incredibly worth hearing. Back on the Webcomic Day there were a lot of people showing their process and though I'm always sharing WIPs I haven't shared the full thing since I closed my Patreon years ago, so here I go!

I have the sketches made on a sketchbook so I don't need to think too much about the composition, that's why I pencil kinda quick and very sketchy. I sometimes change things from the sketches but it's rare because when I work on those I put real effort on every page composition already so I don't have to rethink stuff. Actually, I already think about that while writing the script. Then I put more effort in the inking part. I like the inking part a lot. Depending on the style, I use calibrated pens or a nib pen. In Demon Hunter Hagan, I use Sakura Pigmas 005 and 01 because of the tiny details on their faces.

Then I use Promarkers for the skin tones so I always have the same tone for each character. Hagan is a 0618 while Chorus is a Y129 (Spoiler of the second arc: Allan is O346 and Puresoul is Y418). I also use Eco Brush Pens for giving a grey tone to the backgorunds and use a mix of ultramarine and burnt siena watercolours for making some shadows. I normally do all this in the morning and while having a cup of earl grey.

After lunch and some videogames or nap, I start the proper colours. I have a very small palette of 12 colours and I use Winsor and Newton Cotman watercolours. I always start with the backgrounds, then do the objects and leave the characters for the end. This is the part that takes me more time and since I'm easily distracted instead of using my phone for listening to music I try to use my old iPod or my discman and my CDs. I also have a couple of tea cups while working on the colours so I use the little moment to go to the kitchen and make the second cup of tea for resting a bit. My first tea is either black or green but the second is rooibos.

In the weekend I scan all the pages I did during the week (depends on the project, I work on three Demon Hunter Hagan pages per week, but I made 5 pages of ELLIS per week) and edit it in CMYK and work on Affinity Publisher for the margins and texts. I don't like working on the PC so I have several playlists of Italodisco and Hatsune Miku to focus.

I export the files and schedule the pages on Comicfury. Actually, though there won't be any update of Demon Hunter Hagan until June, This panel is from a page that will be released on the first Wednesday of July! I like having a couple of months of difference between the production and the updates so I won't get anxious and can deal with unexpected delays on my schedule.

LOSER'S BRACKET INFORMATION

Welcome to the Loser's Bracket!

Now that all of the nominations have been collected and counted, I was able to create the list of matches for Round 1. If you do not see a character that has lost that you think belonged here, then I am sorry to say that means they were not nominated. Unlike the main tournament, where I seeded the bracket, the bracket for the Loser's Bracket was randomly generated to avoid redoing matches from the main tournament.

There will be a total of 32 participants and 16 polls in Round 1, which will be divided into two sets (16 participants and 8 polls for Round 1A and 1B each). Unlike the main tournament, every poll will last only a day instead of a full week. This is so the Loser's Bracket will go quickly and finish around the time the finals of the main tournament come out. Only 16 participants will win and make it through to the Losers Bracket Round 2. The losers will stay where they were banished in the Shadow Realm after losing in the main tournament, while the rest are a step closer to escaping the Shadow Realm and reaching the salvation of light.

DND Recap: Haven't you ever heard of knocking?

We open the session with us in the town of Rosepeak having just broken one of the seals.

Me: What day of the week is it? (in game) Rose: It's Wednesday. Me: A chill goes down Bob's pine filling him with dread. Bob: Oh no please NO- Miku: *appears behind Bob* It's poker night~ Bob: *effeminate scream* Rose: We're playing Putt Party! Me: Yay! (good memories) Lanwel's player: Nooo-

So instead of actually trying to play poker over Discord, we now play 3 rounds of putt party. If you win a round, you get 500 gp. If Bob wins a round, he is freed from his poker night pact. We have to play in character.

And I am sucking. I came in last place most of the time. Bob: *does well the first holes* I'm amazing! Also Bob: *fumbles the final holes* I'm the worst and I don't deserve good things- ACK! Alfie: *holding nerf gun* What did we talk about? Bob: *sighs* It's okay to not be the best and to fail and that does not determine my worth as an individual... Alfie: *pockets nerf gun* That's better. Bob: I never should've shown those commercials. The ones who won a round were Lanwel, Zara, and Truk.

Bob got 10 electrum pieces from a hole in one. Lanwel gave him 1 platinum for being a good sport. Bob and Patrick played another round together for friendship reasons and Bob won but that doesn't count.

Meanwhile with Bragar and Morticia:

Drunk guy: *smacks Bragar upside the head with a chair* Bragar: Rude. Morticia: Hit him back or I'll tell them that you hit me. Bragar: *sighs* fine. *starts a fuckin bar fight* Morticia: *manic giggling*

So the party heads back to the inn/tavern and we see Bragar throw a guy through a fuckin WINDOW- and step out with a giggling Morticia in his arm. Zara: BRAGAR, WHAT THE FUCK- Bragar: She was loving it! Zara: SHE IS A CHILD I'M TRYING NOT TO TRAUMATIZE HER- Alfie: Do you want me to take her for babysitting reasons? MLP Spike: THAT WAS SO COOL! Can I have your autograph? Bragar: Uh sure? Alfie: Spike. Spike: *nervous* Alfie: *in a suit after doing music at a wedding for a friend* Were you holding onto my coattails when I teleported? Spike: Maybe? Alfie: Come on. Spike: But I want to explore the world! Alfie: *currently living in season 6 of mlp* You will. For now, you're going back to Twilight's. Hop on.

Alfie hops through a portal with Spike on his back. In Equestria, he goes by Redwood

Bob: Can we burn down the Dandelion now? Zara: Yes. Bob and Zara work together, Bob casting Witch Bolt and Zara casting Fireball. Lanwel steps in and uses her divine powers to essentially instantaneously torch the building and cleansing it with the power of the sun. It is disintegrated.

Bob buys the land for 51 platinum (that's $5,100 USD) so he can start franchising CaFae Latte (in Finkelberg he has on coffee shop called CaFae Latte a la C.M. Alongi) and she sells it to him as long as he promises to put a shrine on the property to her. They shake on it. Bob: Booyah! I'm franchising!

They head back to Russia where one of the reverse horcruxes is. The Redwood tree that Alfie turned into the doors to the throne room.

They are greeted by Zariel. Zariel and Lanwel proceed to have a dick measuring contest.

Zariel: Hello Lanwel. Lanwel: Zariel. What brings you here? Zariel: Well, I am the Queen of Russia. Well, figure head. Lanwel: Hm. Interesting. I would've thought you'd be doing something more... destructive. Zariel: And here you are with these adventurers? I thought you didn't *insert more dick measuring* Bob: Are you two disgruntled exes or something? Truk: Zariel. We are here to destroy the doors to the throne room. Zariel: Oh, thank the gods- They are hideous, but we just got them back up earlier. 73 rum rums died doing that.

Bragar runs up to the door and tries to smash it with a hammer and he just does the cartoon thing where the vibrations reverberate through the door and the hammer, and he has to roll a strength check to see if he SHATTERS THE BONES IN HIS ARMS or not. He succeeds the save.

Alfie is called in to remove the door cuz he's like the only being that can move it solo, and he carries it outside for the party to try to destroy. He turns back into his pony form and trots through a portal.

Zariel says that the door cannot be damaged by mortal weapon and says "I do believe that one is not mortal" And Bob, Truk and Zara just look at each other like "which one are you talking about?"

Bob pulls out his two Axes of the Dwarvish Lords. Truk pulls out Dazbolg the Radiant Blade aka Sword of Kings. Zara does a fireball, and they attack in sync and nothing happens to the door other than glowing writing appearing on the door saying "I can only be burned by the fires of Hell" Bob: Lucifer Lucifer Lucifer Rose: A piece of paper appears in front of you. It says "rain check" So, we're going back to Hell! But first a pitstop at Sha'am to get Lanwel a pet.

Bob: *chipper* Hello Sha'Carri! Sha'Carri: Hello Bob. Bob: Are you feeling any better? Sha'Carri: Much better. Me: Is he lying? Rose: Yes. His not okay. He's listening to my chemical romance. Me: He been listening to a violin cover of Arcade? Rose: Yes. Bob: *breaks into hives cuz bullshit allergy* Sha'Carri? Sha'Carri: (._. ) Bob: *hives* Your lying hurts me, Sha'Carri. Sha'Carri: FINE. I'M NOT OKAY. Bob: Zara, can you grab my EpiPen? Zara: Sure! Sha'Carri: *stabs Bob with EpiPen* There you go. Bob: Much appreciated. You're a good friend. Sha'Carri: *sniffles* What do you guys need? Lanwel: I would like a companion. Sha'Carri: *trying not to cry* the pets are over here-

Lanwel gets this little guy for 500 gp. She names him Radiance cuz she's pretentious and he becomes more radiant to match his name. I ask if I can get Bob a second pet to go with his copperhopper. Rose says yes and I go through Fluffy Folio and find this guy

Me: Rose, can I has? Rose: Yes. Bob: Sha'Carri, how much for the Long Boi? Sha'Carri: 500 gold pieces (not giving Bob free shit cuz heartbroken) Bob: Ok :3 *pays* also here's the money for Templeton. *pays 500* Sha'Carri: ... Bob: I hereby dub thee Long Boi. Long Boi: *gets long enough for Bob to wear him as a scarf* Rose: I just realized that I have essentially given you each your own Fartbuckle. Patrick: What if our pets have to save us? Me: Oh, that would suck for Templeton.

So Lanwel opens a portal to Hell and we're on the Highway to Hell. Rose: Truk you see a Chevy Impala. Truk: I CALL SHOTGUN- Bob: TRUK NO- I'LL- Actually no I shouldn't drive do not let me drive- Lanwel: *gets in front seat* Zara: *gets in right back passenger seat* Bragar: *gets in Nap Sack with Morticia* Zara's player: Who gets in the bitch seat? Me: Bob does. Truk: *floors it* Bob: *screams and teleports out*

Truk stops the car shortly before hitting the rock we crashed into last time. Everyone gets out of the car and Dean Winchester is mad that they took his car but happy that the party didn't crash it.

And we have the whole one tells the truth the other tells lies thing again.

Bob pulls up on a motorcycle, full leather biker femboy with Bragar clinging to him. When Bob takes off his helmet, he does that slow motion shake out and it is immaculate.

Lanwel cast zone of truth. Dean succeeds the save, Sam doesn't, some of the party rolls the save and Bob doesn't even bother trying to roll since he's fey and can't lie. Lanwel takes note of who chooses to fail the save.

Patrick: Which one of you would try to kill us with the door. Sam and Dean: he would. Bob: You know Zone of Truth is kinda pointless since I'm a walking lie detector. I'm allergic to bullshit and therefore lies.

Bob just flies up to the top of the wall and peaks over. The doors lead to the same place and Bob says that it doesn't matter which one we go through.

We head off to the hotel and Bob briefly catches up with Alastor. Alastor greets Zara, she flips him off and walk past. Bob was originally like Alastor but now he's Alastor and Angel Dust simultaneously. A crossdressing murderous twink with impeccable fashion sense. We ask where Lucifer is, Lanwel sees into Alastor's no existent soul, she knows where Lucifer is but Bob says that we should let Alastor finish because "It's polite and he's trying to help" Alastor says that Lucifer is in his tower. Zara is Almost there. Bob beats everyone there except for Bragar. Bob has 50 ft movement speed, Bragar has 60 ft.

We ask Lucifer to borrow the flames of hell, we are denied. Without the Heart of Hell, Hell will freeze over. So Bragar and Lanwel volunteer to keep the hearth running by channeling the power of the sun through Bragar's breath attack. The Heart of Hell is volatile and must be wielded by powerful magic users that aren't mortal.

Patrick: *pulls out jar labeled “Jar that can hold the fire of hell”* Will this help? *drops it* OH FUCK- Zara: You clumsy bitch! *slaps Patrick*

Together Bob and Zara wield the Flames together, both succeeding the constitution saving throw. Patrick uses his cartoon powers to draw a doorway back to Russia. Patrick, Truk, Zara, and Bob head through the door back to Russia and the flame leaps onto the door and starts trying to consume it, but it's going slowly for some reason.

And back in hell Bragar is told to roll and constitution and strength save. He fumbles one of them and his flame stutters, but he pushes through tanking 36 damage.

Bob and Patrick both try to get through to Emira that she deserves someone better than Micheal. Bob: He cheated on his wife, with you for someone with more power. What makes you think he won't do the same to you when someone more powerful comes along? What do you even see in him? Emira: He's beautiful and doesn't ignore me- Patrick: A relationship should never be based on looks. If that's all you have then you deserve better.

Welcome to the Melodiva Dormitory!

A fandorm inspired from Project SEKAI COLORFUL STAGE! feat. Hatsune Miku

Melodiva is a dorm founded under the resonated feelings of the virtual singers. The dorm is styled like a theater building and has a giant stage (called the SEKAI stage) at the top floor for students to show of their skills.

General Info

Music has been a major part of this dorm since its very origins and students from this dorm has a relation to music one way or another, whether they are a beginner idol, a famous musical actor, or focusing on music-related magic. It has many relation to various production house, thus acting as a scouting ground for new faces in the entertainment industry. 

The dorm’s main color is turquoise.

The dorm has some unique ranking system that can benefit the students in their entertainment future. At the beginning of the year, each student will get an app to record their profile, what team they are on or are they a solo performance, and their DP (diva points).

During Wednesday and Saturday, they will hold at max ten performances on the SEKAI Stage (whether it’s a team or solo) and anyone from outside of the dorm can watch them as well. The audience will later vote on the top three acts that evening and the performing students will get some DP from each votes (if it was a team performance, each member of the team gets equal number of votes). The higher DP they have, the easier for them to get recommended to the production houses.

There’s also a special rule for group. Once the member are established, all of them will move to an apartment-like room (complete with kitchen, living room, and bedrooms) instead of the regular dorm room. The intention is to make coordination between member easier and giving them a separate space from soloist.

Other than twice-a-week performance, Melodiva has two special event: Cheerful Carnival and Colorful Festa:

Cheerful Carnival is a mid-semester PVP event between the top performances according to their DP recommendation (in the same nature as sport festival or talent contest). Through lottery, the teams will face against each other. The winning team would get a recommendation from an agency to make an exclusive music video.

Colorful Festa is the dorm festival that only happens at the end of the semester (in the same nature as regular school festival). Only limited people can perform in the stage, picked by the dorm leader themselves regardless their DP. The dorm leader and vice dorm leader must also perform as the opening and closing of the festival.

Uniform

The dorm uniform for Melodiva reminisces a pop idol group (using the ‘Melody Clover‘ costume). It’s available in four colors: pink, green, blue, and yellow. Students are allowed to pick what colors they want.

For dorm leader, it’s more extravagant, giving it more of a ‘stage director’ or ‘main star’ vibes (using ‘Rose Cage’ for the girl and ‘Classical Outfit’ with ‘39PUNK’ accessories for the boy). Unlike regular dorm uniform, it has these colors combinations.

Later, she joins the Team Wonderland. Her style of music are often align to school band rock covers. Her dorm uniform is green.”

3. Touma Hinata (日向 騰舞, hinata touma), based on: Wonderland x Showtime, face claim: Tenma Tsukasa “A 2nd year honor student and a talented performance who always smile despite the hardship. He’s the most-recommended top performer of their dorm. His usual style of music is loud, energetic, and theatrical, but can adapt to any style. His dorm uniform is blue.”

4. Akari Asato (朝東 明莉, asato akari), based on: More More Jump!, face claim: Hanasato Minori “A hard-working, yet bashful and has little self-confidence, 1st year girl who dreams to be a idol. She later formed Team ACAA with Etsumi. Her style of music are usually the traditional idol pop music, but can be variant. Her dorm uniform is yellow.”

Etsumi Akizora (秋空 絵津美, akizora etsumi), based on: Vivid Bad Squad, face claim: Shiraishi An “A cool yet sometimes moody 1st year who loves fashion, sweet snacks and cute things, and has a talent as a DJ. They later formed Team ACAA with Akari. While their style of music are street pop/rock, they can pretty much adapt to any style. Their dorm uniform is pink.”

AAAA I finally finished something! Con time is over for me so I have about 40% less stress. AGH.

I technically didn’t do this right as the pose isn’t the same. I also switched the hair style around a bit. The base was literally Miku, so I wanted to give a personal flair. lmao I never finished coloring the outline on the hair on the base. 13 yo me must’ve given up at some point. I remember long hours of listening to a single song on repeat (or various anime soundtracks) coloring each pixel at a time. God, I don’t want to go back to that. I can do tedious but that was extremely tedious. 

It’s Yasuko Miyahara! My first fleshed all the way out RP (technically) character. She is 3 years older than me, making her 23 at the moment. I think I’ll keep her there since when I first made her she was just turning 16. The way I came up with her makes me cringe in so hard I could collapse into a black hole. I still love her and am working on her personality out of a serious mary sue.
