You mentioned a Magical Gender Affirmation stories and fan theories list, could we maybe see it pretty please? 🥺
Okay, so that's not an actual list I have written down, but off the top of my head:
Ranma ½ and the nannīchuan/nyannīchuan
The School Of Good And Evil, book 2. That's what cracked my egg the first time around
Homestuck and the gender affirming God Tier transformations
Splatoon. Pick a new style and it's all cool
Robots 2005 and whatever happened to Robin Williams' character
Any Persona 5 fanfic where the cognitive world shows the true "inner self"
I haven't played Dark Souls yet but there's that coffin
Kid Icarus Uprising and the mirror that made Dark Pit, something that shows the repressed side of oneself. Dark Pit should've been a girl <3
Nimona. Trans people can shapeshift (read the original comic!!!!!)
Anything related to Bowesette or the Super Crown
I stopped watching My Hero Academia after Hawks was introduced for no reason, but any fic with a gender affirming transformation quirk 👍
Jonathan Harker should've been forcefemmed by Dracula
Unrelated but I'm a sucker for transfem BOTW/TOTK Link waking up in the right body
Transwoman Cinderella and her fairy god-endocrinologist

My orange side dreams (I've had 4)
A description of my multiple orange side dreams and some of my commentary on them.
The first one
I had this dream back in 2022. Logan was sitting in a closet looking into a mirror. But his reflection wasnt himself, it was Thomas with a scraggly beard, dirty grey hoodie, messy hair, etc. Logan was talking to him about backing off, the reflection was mocking him, and all of a sudden the reflection reaches out and pulls Logan into the mirror. He starts laughing evilly and takes on Logan's appearance, walking out of the mirror and out of the closet. The dream changes to me scrolling through the comment sections of youtube trying to look for theories about this video, when i find in the description for the video theres a single name: Julius.
What I find super funny about this dream was that, the original appearance is super similar to an old dark side OC I had before Remus was introduced. He represented procrastination.
The name Julius is also funny because I'm fairly certain my subconscious took it from the drink "orange Julius"
Also lmao me predicting Thomas having facial hair is wild, God damn 2022 Dazey.
The second one
Previously posted elsewhere on my tumblr, I'm basically copying and pasting the post here.
I had a dream that Thomas posted a sander sides video featuring Janus, Remus, and the orange side. The orange side had no defined appearance, he was constantly switching between looking like Patton, Virgil, and Logan.
Janus and Remus didn't like him. The orange side did things in the video that actually made REMUS feel disgusted. I wont describe how (info in the replies of the original post), but he was able to completely shut down other sides. He picked them off one by one and made them faint, disappear, etc...
You could tell by the end of the episode Janus was majorly unhappy but before he could do anything, the orange side rendered him unconscious and Thomas was left alone with him. The episode ended with the orange side laughing as the screen faded to black. The endcard featured Thomas announcing the next episode would come out in 2 years :) (ouch, the accuracy still hurts a bit)
The third one (short and sweet)
Orange side had this ability to influence other sides, like a temporary possession. He wore glasses, which let me tell you, I don't see many orange sides interpretations with glasses so this was just wild.
Despite the fact I know he wore glasses, he also didn't have a set appearance, like he was invisible. Similar to dream 2, he was constantly changing how he looked through this possession concept I brought up.
He was influencing Logan to lash out a lot. Weird huh *gestures vaguely to my complicated feelings to the wrath theory*
Different dream again, the final one
The orange side adopted the appearance and actions of my personal theory for what the orange side should be. Those who have read my orange side theories will already know what im about to say: He represented ignorance, his dark side animal was a bird (some sort of falcon or hawk), his name was Icarus. The entire dream (read: episode) was more or less about how the others fucking suck when it comes to addressing their issues. It felt like they were going in circles. Why did they have to constantly fight?
I've seen the arguments against my particular ignorance theory, saying it's basically just lying to yourself and we can't have two Deceits. But ignorance is more than just 'turning a blind eye.' It's purposefully ignoring new nformation to stay in a comfortable and familiar idea space. Most of the dream works from the angle of Logan not being listened to. The other sides ignorance is what makes Logan angry.
This means nothing but I feel like sharing. In this dream I got to meet Thomas and I asked him "so, Is the orange sides name icarus?" And he looked personally so offended that I guessed it.
#sander sides#sanders sides#thomas sanders#roman sanders#virgil sanders#remus sanders#logan sanders#patton sanders#orange side#orange side theory#If I had a nickel for every orange side dream I've ever had....

PUP!!!!!!!! *shakes you*
We have finished season 7 (took forever cause the laptop we were using broke halfway through and took forever to fix ;w;)
Chaotic thoughts and opinions below (my memory is kinda foggy of the first half of the season so don’t mind me-)
WHY. ARE. THE. LITERAL. CHILDREN. FIGHTING? like istg they better get paid or recognition or SOMETHING cause fighting the villains as STUDENTS is not their freaking job. It’s like getting a med school kid to perform heart surgery- YOU DON’T DO THAT-
*inhales* SHINSOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
(He was so cool on Gigantomachia, used that fancy scarf like his dad taught him :D )
*sobs* Bakugooooooooooo *sobs again* Edgeshot ;w;
(If Bakugo doesn’t come back to life and Edgeshot’s gone I’m gonna lose it- we don’t see much of Edgeshot but he’s cool and Best Jeanist had to just watch as his student died and then watch again and his best friend tries to save him, even at the cost of his own life and I am emotionally wrecked like what the freak was that you can’t do this to me-)
Ochako’s dying and Toga’s dying to save her and they got to have their talk about boys and love and closure and acceptance and none of the villains deserved what happened to them they don’t have to die please don’t let them die-
The Todoroki family- not going to say anymore, I will implode if I think about them anymore
My brain is screeching Hawks=Icarus. He flew too close to AFO and now………..
Toga crying over not being able to transform into Shigaraki or Dabi broke me ;w;
Not the kids with electricity quirks literally being used as batteries-
Gentle and La Brava to the rescue- so cool how they saved UA from crashing
Those reporters and business course kids really be willing to die for a story-
Deku, arriving only to see his soulmate dead, and all the other allies severely injured: *unintelligible scream*
For real though, if Mirio didn’t stop him, he would have fought Shigaraki with murderous intent
Tsukauchi (probably spelt wrong but you know who I mean) not wanting to watch his friend die fighting AFO and telling La Brava to turn off the stream, then crying as he fights anyway even though All Might wasn’t supposed to be anywhere near the battle
KUROGIRI AND OBORO SHIRAKUMO IDENTITY CRISIS MID-BATTLE
I was cheering- but where did Aizawa go? (And why did Kurogiri take Mic with him?) My theory is that the Oboro part of him couldn’t stand to hurt them, so he took Mic with so he could protect them, even as the Kurogiri part warped the Twice clones to fight for Shigaraki. And then, Oboro saved them from falling to their deaths (BUT WHERE ARE THEY PLEASE YOU CANT DO THIS TO ME)
Dark shadow was hella strong, way more than I thought (I originally thought it was kurogiri when I saw massive yellow eyes and purple, a pleasant surprise)
Uraraka having a quirk awakening was so cool, 10/10 on the animators part
So was Bakugo’s quirk awakening, all the little golden sparkles amidst the explosions were *chefs kiss*
Todoroki and Iida-
THEY LITERALLY WERE FLYING AT THE SPEED OF A FIGHTER JET. THEY BROKE THE FREAKING SOUND BARRIER AND TRAVELLED ACROSS HALF THE COUNTRY IN MAYBE A MINUTE.
All Might using his mecha suit to copy his students quirks was so sweet- the suit reminded me of Iron Man :D
Was the acid in his suit weapon made by Mina though? Did he just walk up to her and go “hey gimme your most potent acid in this little cup”?
Poor Kaminari having no clue what’s happening, if his friends are even still alive, until he exits the building and can just see Deku and Shigaraki making a literal tornado with their power
On that note though-
WHOEVER DECIDED TO END THE SEASON WHILST ALL MIGHT IS MID BATTLE WITH AFO, DEKU IS MID BATTLE WITH SHIGARAKI, AND NOT EVEN TELLING US IF BAKUGO AND URARAKA ARE STILL ALIVE IS A CRIMINAL
That person better pray I don’t catch them alone- /hj
Anyway Pup, now that I have released the absolute catastrophe of thoughts I had, how are you? Is it hot for you? Cold? I for one am currently melting ;w;
Gonna go make a slushy, keep yourself hydrated!!
Cya Pup <3
WHY. ARE. THE. LITERAL. CHILDREN. FIGHTING? like istg they better get paid or recognition or SOMETHING cause fighting the villains as STUDENTS is not their freaking job. It’s like getting a med school kid to perform heart surgery- YOU DON’T DO THAT-
EXACTLY THIS IS CHILD LABOR RAHHHHHH
*inhales* SHINSOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
(He was so cool on Gigantomachia, used that fancy scarf like his dad taught him :D )
YES!!! he takes after his father <33
(If Bakugo doesn’t come back to life and Edgeshot’s gone I’m gonna lose it- we don’t see much of Edgeshot but he’s cool and Best Jeanist had to just watch as his student died and then watch again and his best friend tries to save him, even at the cost of his own life and I am emotionally wrecked like what the freak was that you can’t do this to me-)
JJBJIBJIBV I KNOWWWW bakugo's death was so sudden and then edgeshot is literally SACRIFICING HIMSELF to save bakugo. not to mention how best jeanist must be feeling aobut all of this as the kid he mentored is DEAD and his friend is risking it all to save him
Ochako’s dying and Toga’s dying to save her and they got to have their talk about boys and love and closure and acceptance and none of the villains deserved what happened to them they don’t have to die please don’t let them die-
TOGACHAKO!!!!!! i knowwww i was about to cry during their whole episode. their dynamic means so much to me and like- THEIR WHOLE TALK ABOUT HOW MUCH THEY CARE FOR EACH OTHER. toga's was extremely sad because you could literally feel her grief from losing twice and everyone- her even asking fi dabi laughed as he died :(((
The Todoroki family- not going to say anymore, I will implode if I think about them anymore
dabi almost did- *gets shot*
Toga crying over not being able to transform into Shigaraki or Dabi broke me ;w;
NO CAUSE SAME. cause she loves them so much but since her love isnt as strong she cant do it ALSO because of the hate in her heart overpowering everyone else :((((
Not the kids with electricity quirks literally being used as batteries-
i mean... you gotta do what you gotta do :D
Gentle and La Brava to the rescue- so cool how they saved UA from crashing
THEY. WERE. SO. COOL. also their whole speech about distance making the heart grow fonder and stuf ughhhh
Those reporters and business course kids really be willing to die for a story-
gotta respect that hussle o7
Deku, arriving only to see his soulmate dead, and all the other allies severely injured: *unintelligible scream*
YESS AND LIKE THE WAY HE LOOKED WITH THE BLACKWHIP AND EVERYTHINF SURROUNDING HIM OMG HE LOOKED SO COOL-
For real though, if Mirio didn’t stop him, he would have fought Shigaraki with murderous intent
oh 100%
Tsukauchi (probably spelt wrong but you know who I mean) not wanting to watch his friend die fighting AFO and telling La Brava to turn off the stream, then crying as he fights anyway even though All Might wasn’t supposed to be anywhere near the battle
HFBHKJFBXHKFJXHBKJFXBHF THIS EXACTLY. seriously all might is one of my favorite mentor figures of all time because he grows so much outside of teaching his student(s) too
KUROGIRI AND OBORO SHIRAKUMO IDENTITY CRISIS MID-BATTLE
YESYESYEYSEYSYES OBORO WAS FIGHTING SO HARD
I was cheering- but where did Aizawa go? (And why did Kurogiri take Mic with him?) My theory is that the Oboro part of him couldn’t stand to hurt them, so he took Mic with so he could protect them, even as the Kurogiri part warped the Twice clones to fight for Shigaraki. And then, Oboro saved them from falling to their deaths (BUT WHERE ARE THEY PLEASE YOU CANT DO THIS TO ME)
no clue- also i agree with your theory of oboro wanting to protect his friends but kurogiri also wanting them away from the battle. because why else would kurogiri appear there? i mean aizawa was probably going to fall to his death and that wouldve benefited the villain but kurogiri appeared and like- OIIHGOIHFGOIH
Dark shadow was hella strong, way more than I thought (I originally thought it was kurogiri when I saw massive yellow eyes and purple, a pleasant surprise)
OMG NO SAME THOUGH. i was like 'tf is he doing here? WHAT'
Uraraka having a quirk awakening was so cool, 10/10 on the animators part
the scene with her pink love blending in with toga's black hate- ughhhhh i love themmmm
So was Bakugo’s quirk awakening, all the little golden sparkles amidst the explosions were *chefs kiss*
he was such a pretty boy <3
Todoroki and Iida- THEY LITERALLY WERE FLYING AT THE SPEED OF A FIGHTER JET. THEY BROKE THE FREAKING SOUND BARRIER AND TRAVELLED ACROSS HALF THE COUNTRY IN MAYBE A MINUTE.
GOT THE POWER IN THEM!! PLUS ULTRA!!!
All Might using his mecha suit to copy his students quirks was so sweet- the suit reminded me of Iron Man :D
WAIT NO CAUSE SAME. also it kinda looked like a scorpian to me like near the end and stuff...
Was the acid in his suit weapon made by Mina though? Did he just walk up to her and go “hey gimme your most potent acid in this little cup”?
i'd assume so, it'd make sense seeing as it wouldn't be hard for her to do that. especially if they planned it out little by little slowly making the concentration of the acid grow and grow
Poor Kaminari having no clue what’s happening, if his friends are even still alive, until he exits the building and can just see Deku and Shigaraki making a literal tornado with their power
i wouldve noped outta that situation SO FAST
WHOEVER DECIDED TO END THE SEASON WHILST ALL MIGHT IS MID BATTLE WITH AFO, DEKU IS MID BATTLE WITH SHIGARAKI, AND NOT EVEN TELLING US IF BAKUGO AND URARAKA ARE STILL ALIVE IS A CRIMINAL
ACTUALLY THOUGH IM GONNA FREAK THE FUCK OUTTTT
and im doing good! its also a little chilly for me rn and i get my wisdom teeth removed tomorrow so... D:
IM GONNA CRYYYYYYYY

Not Agaaain! - Or, Hawks Will Have To Choose Twice Over
Large parts of this meta are taken from a conversation with the always-wise @aspoonofsugar, who is herself not a huge BNHA fan, but keeps up with it mostly so that I can blather to her constantly.
I think I’ve already been quite clear that I think it an odd narrative choice to teaming up with the hero commission to save Dabi. While the text has strongly indicated Touya will be saved eventually, I don’t quite see how the top three heroic symbols can play a role.
Shouto himself to Enji that he cannot earn his family back through being a hero, but instead by being a father:
Like, does anybody think Enji should be able to have it all--the esteem of heroes and the commission and his family? When the entire narrative has set it up as either/or, as a choice Enji will have to make since he made it previously and chose... poorly?
Even in this chapter, Best Jeanist is focused on what to say to the public, not on, you know, the actual revelations. It’s a focus on leaving the past in the past, because “things are different now.”
Except that attitude is precisely what Dabi was calling out:
And it isn’t only stated by Dabi, but by Natsuo:
And also by Deku himself:
Which isn’t to say that isn’t where Dabi’s arc will probably go eventually (moving on) but is to say the wounds from Dabi’s past are still very much festering, and literally so.
You gotta treat these wounds, not leave them to heal on their own, because some wounds are too deep to heal on their own. Touya most likely fell into the wrong hands after burning in the forest (Ujiko seeming a likely suspect) that might have fixed him up in the present, but did nothing to address the actual circumstances that led to him self-immolating in the woods. He needs to learn emotional regulation and have his pain acknowledged, not ignored (the symbolism is again very literal):
So how do we do this? Because the heroes right now seem to be sweeping things under the rug again which worked so well the first time. And maybe this is supposed to happen and we have to suspend disbelief because BNHA is kinda like that sometimes. But I’m not so sure, and frankly I hope not because it’s... not awesome writing, and I’d like BNHA to be well done.
So how does this connect to Twice and Hawks? Well, Hawks is clearly thinking about Twice in these panels:
However, Hawks still isn’t realizing his own role in what happened; it’s simplistic and self-centered, which has kinda been Hawks’ thing since his introduction.
Hawks directly states that he’s projecting onto the Todorokis this chapter:
Now, projection isn’t necessarily a bad thing, and I don’t doubt he sincerely wants to help his mentor. I do doubt his rationale. To quote Sugar-chan,
instead of fixing his own issues, he is trying to fix his childhood idol. I think the revelations about Endeavor have actually shaken Hawks, but he is not acknowledging them.
He’s not getting to the route of his own problems: the hero commission exploiting him and his own choice to kill Twice.
Let’s examine why Hawks seems to have latched onto Twice so hard. They have quite a bit in common: they grew up traumatized and impoverished, but one had their quirk lead others to save them and one did not. Twice was also mentally unstable and believed he was the cause of the League’s problems (self-centered in a sense, but not in a negative connoted way); it sounds not only similar to Hawks, but to Tomie. I mean, he legit makes Twice the exact same offer the hero commission gave him and Tomie.
Hawks killing what represents the part of himself that wasn’t saved does not typically indicate good things in terms of character development. Unlike when Enji killed High End, Twice is not Hawks’ negative qualities, but is instead also his good qualities. Hawks even says he wants to be like Twice:
Hawks’ having killed Twice might very well impede his goal to help the Todorokis. Dabi and the League don’t have any reason to trust Hawks and have some very good reasons not to; double-agent role aside, Hawks offered a chance to Twice and then when Twice didn’t take it (because Hawks wasn’t actually listening to what Twice wanted: to save his friends), Hawks stabbed him in the back, quite literally.
Dabi was even there for that; why would he trust Hawks is genuine? Why would he trust his family if they’re working with Hawks?
There’s little indication that Hawks sees seeking to save Touya as anything different than his quest to save Twice, and writing-wise, he kind of shouldn’t. Hawks has had absolutely no consequences to deter him from following the same route. Unless the past only dies for Hawks or he’s gotten from Point A to Point B of realizing the past matters offscreen (since he’s literally said it doesn’t since his introductory chapter):
Given the prominence of Twice’s death (not just in the narrative, but it had a volume cover devoted to it; you’d think it’d be pivotal) this does not seem like awesome writing, so I’m going to assume that this is setting up a future conflict for Hawks rather than resolving one.
So what happens when Dabi refuses to be saved, which seems almost certain to happen? (Also for people who might be nervous about that: rejecting redemption several times is a staple of a redemption arc.) What will Hawks do then?
How will that differ from what Shouto would do? (If Shouto’s endgame would be to follow Hawks’ lead, then it doesn’t make much sense to have Hawks admiring Shouto instead of the other way around, nor for a character introduced halfway through to demonstrate how to solve the problem midway through the story when killing villains isn’t really new or unique).
Unless Hawks gets those consequences, why would he make a different choice than the one he made last time he was driven into a corner?

Icarus: The Fall of Hawks
The system also tells him to ignore people he can save if he thinks it will be more beneficial in the long run. But Ultimately, Hawks continues to put his trust in the people that are using him, because he sees no escape and no alternative.
The icarus symbolism surrounding Hawks character is already a common fandom theory, but I decided to give a comprehensive take. The closest thing I could find to an original post on this theory was: this one.
The winged hero Hawks draws many mythological allusions to the boy Icarus most famous for flying too close to the son causing his wax wings to fall apart.
Son of Daedalus who dared to fly too near the sun on wings of feathers and wax. Daedalus had been imprisoned by King Minos of Crete within the walls of his own invention, the Labyrinth. But the great craftsman's genius would not suffer captivity. He made two pairs of wings by adhering feathers to a wooden frame with wax. Giving one pair to his son, he cautioned him that flying too near the sun would cause the wax to melt. But Icarus became ecstatic with the ability to fly and forgot his father's warning. The feathers came loose and Icarus plunged to his death in the sea.
The story is inextricably linked to Hawks’ character, foreshadowing that his two flaws, his admiration of Endeavor (the sun) and his habit of flying too fast will cause him to fall into villainry.
1. Hawks: Set Up by the Hero Commission to take the Fall
Foreshadowing occurs in a literary text when the author gives clues and hints about what is to come in the story. That in itself is pretty well known, but there’s more to it than just giving hints. It has a lot to do with the way stories are structured. Basically, stories are all composed of set up and pay off.
Foreshadowing is not just for cheeky hints or setting up which characters might die, it’s a sign that the author as a whole has the story planned out. The reason that scenes in stories get an emotional reaction out of us as readers, is because authors set up these characters as somethnig for us to get invested in, build up those emotions, and then eventually pay them off on the expectations we have built up.
Which is why when reading stories a general good strategy is analyzing What does the author want me to think? What are they trying to lead me to? Ideas are introduced, developed and get paid off more and more as the story progresses. A good story will continue building up these ideas with the intention of leading them somewhere, which makes them purposeful. This goes hand in hand with the concept of chekhov’s gun, that is every idea that the story spends time on will eventually become meaningful in some way.
'Chekhov's Gun' is a concept that describes how every element of a story should contribute to the whole. It comes from Anton Chekhov's famous book writing advice: 'If in the first act you have hung a pistol on the wall, then in the following one it should be fired.
To wit: The reason why all this icarus symbolism is surrounding Hawks is not just because he’s a cool flashy character that’s popular, he’s actually one of the most important characters in the story right now tied to the flaws and exploitations of the hero system that Horikoshi has been setting up since chapter one in the manga with this line. People are not born equal, that’s the hard truth I learned at age four.
Here’s a quick example of developing ideas in the story especially tied to Hawks. The first time we here Destro is when Gentle explains about him as one of the legendary villains he aspires to be like, the arc before Hawks is introduced as a character.
The next arc after the school festvial arc, Destro’s book is shown as inspiring one person the same way it did Gentle while hawks is talking with Endeavor.
After the class A vs B arc, in the My Villain Academia arc not only do we learn that Destro has a son and followers that are still alive, but at the end of the arc Hawks is shown interacting with the liberation followers. Ideas are introduced, developed to give them more depth, and most importantly they always show up linked to Hawks.
Why does Hawks always up in association with Destro? Esepcially when hawks is not a quirk supremacist like the rest of the MLA. It’s because as a character, Hawks’ deepest desire is liberation, and yet it’s also the thing that he’s furthest from. The character with wings who can freely fly in the sky, is chained down with the most responsibility.
There are two important pieces of foreshadowing in Hawks’ introduction chapter. First that he shows a dissatisfaction with the current hero system around him, and a tendency to see through others especially when they are putting on airs.
The second is this shot in particular, the spotlight in the background like a sun in the center of the sky with Hawks ascending towards it and losing feathers the same way Icarus would.
The other most important detail from this chapter is how Hawks is described. Not only did he make the top ten in his teens which makes him a young man like Icarus in the story, there’s also the oft repeated phrase with hawks - He goes too fast. Going too fast, flying too high, too quickly, these are all things that come come before Icarus’ fall. Special attention is drawn to how young he became a hero which we will get to later.
In chapter 186 there is a piece of foreshadowing used mainly as a joke, that also ties in with the idea of liberation with Hawks character mentioned earlier. This is a point taken from the meta linked at earlier, but considering what we now know about Hawks’ character that he is a kid raised by the hero system who has to kowtow to the higher ups this internal dialogue could easily resemble Hawks.
They key difference being Hawks never lets himself admit to having these feelings, or acts on them. He is much more concerned with keeping up his carefree facade.
From as far back as I can remember, I’ve lived my life as a bootlicker. It’s been suffocating.
While the scene itself is a joke, the connection to Destro’s book and the idea of liberation are both themes that connect strongly to Hawks. Another connection is a similiar scene that took place in Vigilantes which directly references Icarus in the same context, a man getting naked as a part of his quirk. Vigilantes is the canon prequel of My Hero Academia and has several plotlines important to the main story, even Aizawa’s canon backstory so this is highly relevant.
Once again this is set up as a gag but my flight is a forbidden one is an idea that could easily relate to Hawks. After all, Hawks has wings and yet cannot use them for himself, and cannot take flight on his own because he is under the thumb of the Hero Commission.
The way Hawks’ powers work is also important. He has feathers that give him wings that can fly, and yet because he is able to autonomously move his individual feathers we see him often giving up his feathers for other people and multitasking for several people at once. Quirks are often a metaphor for their users, Hawks has wings to fly, but his feathers don’t belong to him, the more he gives up for other people the more he loses his wings.
When Hawks uses all of his feathers he is unable to fly anymore and starts to fall, the same way the wax melted and the feathers flew apart the only thing Icarus could do was plummet.
Hawks feathers also become useless to his when they burn up. This, and the cover page featuring Endeavor burning his wings up not only sets up an eventual conflict with Endeavor, but one that Hawks’ quirk will most likely be weak to the flames.
The scene with Dabi. Hawks is introduced to us with the light backlighting him as he ascends towards it. Now, in the conclusion of this arc, the light in the background of the scene is where Dabi moves towards while Hawks himself covered in shadow walks away from light and descends into the dark foreground.
There are also two more joking points of foreshadowing in this chapter, both setting up an eventual confrontation with Hawks and Endeavor. The first is Endeavor noticing the suspicious timing, and the second is Endeavor threatening to roast him which he has threatened at several times already. Even if it’s a joke it’s a serious threat, Endeavor has been characterized as someone incapable of handling his emotions and lashing out in violence several times in the past.
Not only is Hawks set up to fall however, the hero commission sets him up to fall as well. A one man investigation into the League of Villains as a double agent. The hero commission outlines it for him, he will receive no back up, and nothing in return for his service. There is already a team set up by the commission to fight the league of vision, but they came to Hawks specifically for this reason. He works alone. He cannot say no to them. They knew before asking him he was already going to say yes.
It’s a situation where the Hero’s commission has nothing to lose and everything to gain. Hawks will either fall or fly completely on his own. If the villains kill him, they lose a hero but that’s it. If Hawks messes up his mission and gets caught, the commission can pretend that he really did turn traitor and abandon him. Hawks is completely expendable to them, and yet any information he can grasp is valuable. At the same time, Hawks has everything to lose and nothing to gain. Being a hero is Hawks entire life. He literally has no name outside of his hero name. As stated above he could easily be abandoned by the hero commission if the mission fails, and yet at the same time the only thing Hawks gets out of this is the idea that some people will be saved by his actions. Even though he is specifically instructed not to do anything to save people in front of him if it would jeapordize the mission.
While yes, Heroes working to save people and sacrificing themselves for the sake of others is a good thing, hawks always sacrifices himself all the time. Being a hero not only consumed his whole childhood, but also his life. This is not Hawks volunteering to do it on his own, this is him being given a mission he cannot refuse and going along with it.
The hero commission sets Hawks up to fall in their place. Hawks gives up his wings for them, and because of that he falls instead of flying.
2. Flaw: His Trust in Endeavor and the System as a Whole
Hawks is a child that was taken in by the hero commission and abused by them. Hence the reason why he was such a young rising star is because he had no childhood to speak of. The only way his family could be uplifted out of poverty was if he followed the track they provided for him. He is treated like a prodigy, but really he spent all of his time as a hero, and was given no other option but to become a hero.
Which is why Hawks admiration of Endeavor is ironic, considering that Endeavor attempted to do the same thing to his own son. Not raise his son with love and care, but rather breed him, train him since he was a child, and raise him not as his own person but as a hero to be used for his father’s ambitions. Hawks, Shouto, both of them were reduced to the powerful quirks they had and not treated as people. Which reflects the point that the Meta Liberation Army could have had if they were not quirk supremacists, that quirk society being dominated by strong, flashy quirks, and judging people by those quirks ends up limiting the path ways people can take in life.
This contradiction makes sense when you take into account Hawks’ upbringing. Hawks has a complex reaction to his abuse. He genuinely does want to save other people as he works himself to the bone doing it, and yet he’s also aware the hero system is using him. Part of Hawks resents the hero system, and yet Hawks is also a product of that system who still reflects the ideas he was raised on whether he wanted to or not.
This is why Hawks comes off as being such a two-faced person. He’s in a lot of major ways, in denial about his own place in life. He acts casual and friendly, and yet he’s more burdened and more isolated than anyone else. He deflects almost everything other people throw his way with humor, isolating himself even further. He also contradicts himself quite a lot, he calls out Endeavor onstage and then in the next scene he says he was doing that for Endeavor’s sake. Both are probably true, Hawks resents the hero system, but he also has to have the appearance of a friendly, willing to help others hero, because that’s the only way he’s survived so far. He likes to keep himself aloof and unattached to others because that is literally the only freedom he can grasp yet.
When Hawks says he never was a big fan of All Might, it’s most likely because Hawks sees himself in All Might. The idea of someone who as a hero is forced to save absolutely everyone and have the entire peace of the country resting on only their shoulders, only to be used until they break down is a nightmare to Hawks.
Not only does Hawks not want to be shouldered with the responsibility, not because he’s lazy, but because he knows how exploitative it is but he also does not see himself of ever being able to carry that much. The hero system that Hawks was raised on made him believe that a brute firepower quirk like Endeavor’s that is good for defeating villains is what will put people most at ease, not the constant saving of others, or interactions with people, or the creative use of his quirk that Hawks employed.
Not only is Hawks whole life defined by his quirk, but he is also taught that his quirk is not good enough. The only person who will put other people at ease, is a quirk like All Might’s. Only an extremely powerful quirk that’s suited best for fighting villains.
Hawks even says he does not want to take up the role of All Might, and it’s in part due to his feelings of ineriority, but also his want to escape his life and find some small freedom. Which is when Endeavor, the embodiment of the toxicity of hero society says that he hates guys like Hawks the most. Even though Hawks’ intentions here are pretty clear, instead of trying to step down and let Endeavor take the spotlight and support him from the shadows. Endeavor represents the individualism of hero society, but Hawks is trying to play support. He was raised by hero society, but also Hero Society actively condemns the kind of person that Hawks is.
Once again we see the contradictions in Hawks behavior. He is one of the most selfless heroes in the series as he continually lets himself be used, and yet Hawks pretends that he’s a coward who does not put himself on the line, or fight directly risking his own life.
It’s not just putting on an act, Hawks is also taught to believe that if he stays back adn plays support, if he does not defeat the villain head on with a violent quirk that he is weaker.
Which is why despite representing the exact kind of opposite hero that Endeavor is, he turns out to be a fan of Endeavor. This is because Endeavor is everything Hawks was taught that he was should be, but not. Endeavor fights for number one, he has a powerful quirk, he has the highest villain defeat record. All the things which Endeavor values are the things the hero system values, whereas Hawks believes he’s selfish for wanting a little personal autonomy for himself.
Endeavor is able to be strong in a way that Hawks never will be, because Hawks is not nearly as selfish as Endeavor is. Of course he does not see the victims of Endeavor’s actions quite yet, so he would mistake that for Endeavor able to make his willpower a reality in a way that Hawks cannot and gave up trying to do.
It’s not just putting on an act, Hawks is also taught to believe that if he stays back adn plays support, if he does not defeat the villain head on with a violent quirk that he is weaker.

All the things which Endeavor values are the things the hero system values, whereas Hawks believes he’s selfish for wanting a little personal autonomy for himself.
Hawks is a victim of the hero system, and even is able to see its flaws, but due to his own taught inferiority, and how much he lets himself be used for the sake of helping others he cannot see himself as a victim or change it from the inside in any meaningful way.
Not only that but he fails to see the important flaws in someone like Endeavor, and isntead chooses to still believe that the hero system is ultimately in the right because they are on the side of saving people. Icarus is a tale of self destruction. Hawks is selfless to a self destructive extent. He keeps letting himself be used by people who see him as nothing more than an asset to them, because he believes it to be for the greater good. However, the current system always utilizes people like Hawks, vulnerable, expendable, Hawks is always the one who has to sacrifice his own personal freedom even though he has given his entire life to the system.
The system also is not as interested in saving people as it is in numbers, look how it talks about giving their all to rescue a kidnapped boy as some kind of failure of priorities. As if it was wrong to immediately try to help a child.
The system also tells him to ignore people he can save if he thinks it will be more beneficial in the long run. But Ultimately, Hawks continues to put his trust in the people that are using him, because he sees no escape and no alternative.
3. Flaw: The Man Who Flies too Fast Alone
Hawks always contradicts himself, despite the fact that he’s obviously much better as a support and rescue type hero, Hawks always fights alone. His biggest flaw is how much he always takes on himself, the fact that he flies too fast.
Hawks is aware of the fact that he is used by the system. There are several signs that Hawks is actually a manipulative person. Not in the sense that he is a bad person who tries to use others, but rather he developed the ability to manuever and manipulate other people as a way to cope and find what little freedom an security he could. His personality is a big indicator because Hawks almost never shows his true face and is almost always deflecting. He makes it hard for others to get a read on him by being such a two-faced person, which grants them less control over him and him a little bit more freedom.
At the same time Hawks is shown repeatedly to have information then others expect him to have. Endeavor gets surprised when he mentions Shoto, and the Hero’s commisison gets surprised when he is already aware of the team investigating Kurogiri and yet he never reveals his source on either occasion.
Instead once again he falls back on his common strategy of deflection to stop them from pressing on the issue. Hawks is someone who wants to rely on others more because he feels powerless on his own. Yet, at the same time Hawks has been taken advantage of so many times it’s impossible for him to trust others. Not only that, but Hawks has also been taught that he should be strong enough to do everything on his own, that is the individualism hero society promotes.
This is also how Hawks had to be in his early life. The only reason his family got money was because he was of use to the hero commission. He always had to be at the top of his class, always had to be useful, always had to finish on his own. Hawks always does things on its own because it’s a learned habit, he’s never had anybody else to rely on. Not only that but his way of living has always been unstable he might have been dropped back into poverty if he did not continually rise to meet the expectations of others.
Which is where we are presented with yet another contradiction of Hawks character, he is always working all by himself, but he only ever works for the sake of others. His only selfish desire is some time off for goodness sake. He is blessed with tremendous talent but has never been able to use it for himself, because since childhood he has been put to work for the sake of other people.
Hawks also says that he took Tokoyami on as an intern because he wanted information, which once again Hawks is constantly shown to be privvy to information he does not know and trying to collect more. This is because Hawks does not trust, because he cannot trust. He will be used by the other people around him. That is why he tries to seize as much information for himself as possible. Hawks being manipulative is just him trying to control what little he can, because if he does not do that then he ends up being the one who is controlled. The more knowledge he has, the more power he has.
People who feel helpless as a child due to circumstances entirely out of control will try to grasp for control in any way they can. That is why easygoing Hawks always does things on his own, because not having to rely on other people gives him more control. He can control himself, but not others. Easygoing Hawks is a bit of a control freak.
This scene becomes interesting if analyzed from that level. Hawks says he has no interest in training the next generation, it makes sense somebody who was raised from childhood as a hero and nothing else would probably have no interest in raising other children as heroes. His last line becomes much darker as well.
Those who can fly, should! Why keep yourself grounded?
Hawks is someone who keeps himself grounded all the time, always giving up his own freedom for others, and yet we see freedom is the thing he yearns for the most. He is intoxicated with the idea of freedom, the same way Icarus became intoxicated once he gained his wings and looked at the sun.
In his phonecall with Dabi we get a lot on Hawks’ internal monologue. First he admits to the fact that he plays happy-go-lucky idiot and lets people assume that they can use him, in order to control their perceptions of him. His way of manipulating others has always been to try to let them use him, instead of trying to make use of them because that is what Hawks has been taught. His value is that he is useful. He tries to navigate the system from the inside rather than breaking out. He keeps letting himself be used.
However, once again Hawks words to Dabi do not sound entirely like lies, or they could even be lies to himself. Being on this side of the equation helped me realize that we’d be better off without heroes and heroics. How much of that is a lie when Hawks was exploited into becoming a hero, when his deepest wish is to be allowed to be something else other than a hero for a little while?
It’s easy to see how Hawks got to the point where he seriously could consider Killing Best Jeanist. The people who are injured or taking time off are not useful to the system, they need to be sarcificed for the greater good. He was told by the same system to let people die if it would save more people in the long run, that he cannot be the hero he wants to be. That he has to dirty his own hands for the sake of everyone else. Hawks is constantly going against his own wishes to do what is right for other people.
Hawks says not to let a person’s resolve go to waste, because he believes that all of his determination, that all of his flying too fast is going to lead him somewhere. His determination is indeed a heroic quality, but it’s something that makes him keep sticking with the system rather than giving up on it. It’s something that makes him believe that he can overcome all of this on his own. However, no matter how hard Hawks works for the hero system, the only ones who have something to gain from it in the end is the hero system and not him. His hard work and determinations only guarantees he becomes more useful to them and will be used more.
In this light, Hawks’ belief that he can handle everything on his own is hubris, his determination to become such a good hero that he will get time off is a flaw. The only ersult is that Hawks is used more and more as a cog, and he grinds himself down further and further.
However, just like All Might could not save the entire country of japan all on his own shoulders forever, Hawks’ good boy act is also something that will not last him forever. The more he’s exploited the more he will break down. The ones to catch him when he falls is most likely not going to be the heroes system, because they are exploiting him and forcing him to work on his own because he is expendable that way. If he falls only he falls alone. Hopefully, when Hawks does fall, Dabi and the league will be there to catch him and sympathize with him in a way none of the heroes ever could.

So uh, remember when folks from a ~certain part of the fandom~ were so sure that Hawks will suddenly act like an irrational idiot and hunt down Dabi without talking to the Todoroki family first? And how he’s totally being set up as the antagonist in this family drama?
#bnha manga spoilers#but muh parallels! much symbolism! muh icarus theory! hawks needs tp pay for killing twice! reeeeeeeee#lol shut up#hopefully you'll now read the same manga as the rest of us#hawks is better than all of you#and hori is a better writer#the fact that you fools really thought he'd sacrifice hawks characterization and make him completely out of character...#just to make dabi seem less bad...#lmaoooo#fandom stupidity

FREEDOM BY FIRE
(This post is mainly inspired by pettiness and slight irritation.)
A recurring theme in regards to Hawks is comparing him to Icarus. In this post I’m going to attempt to summarise why this is incorrect.
The core of the Icarus story is the tragic theme of failure at the hands of hubris - Icarus' father warns him first of complacency and then of hubris, asking that he fly neither too low nor too high, so the sea's dampness would not clog his wings nor the sun's heat melt them. Icarus ignored his father's instructions not to fly too close to the sun; when the wax in his wings melted he tumbled out of the sky and fell into the sea where he drowned.
The error in relating this tragedy to Hawks is that the core of his character is not pride, it’s self-sacrifice - He is readily willing to dirty his own hands for the greater good/benefit of society. If Hori’s intention is to base his character off of Icarus it would actually be rather cruel.
So the point becomes; what fire bird is Hawks supposed to represent?
IMO his is not Icarus, but a Phoenix; he is not killed by the fire, just reborn by it.
His given name, Keigo, is composed of the kanji for "disclose, open, say" (啓, kei?) and "enlightenment, understanding" (悟, go?). A translation of this being ‘truth teller’, this could, and has by members of the fandom, be interpreted to mean that he will play a key role in exposing the flaws in the HPSC.
Because remember;
Hawks’ quirk is what caused the Commission to put him in a cage.
His loss of his quirk may incite them to set him free, or he will do this himself.
The loss of his wings will be a dramatic turning point in his life; it will offer him a twisted form of freedom. A chance to define who Takami Keigo really is.
The Phoenix rises from the ashes of its old life to fly towards its new one.

Me, clutching on to my few braincells and trying to figure out how Hawks not underestimating villains and Dabi potentially underestimating heroes ties into the perdix/icarus theory: uhhhh help 0_0
Hmmm, so I went on the reddit thread that really expanded on the theory (and wow I’m still surprised that an idea so small of mine really sparked people’s creativity and they flesh it out so much) and looked over the summary of Perdix
“...Daedalus was so envious of his nephew's accomplishments that he took an opportunity, when they were together one day on the top of a high tower, to push him off. But Athena, who favors ingenuity, saw him falling and arrested his fate by changing him into a partridge. This bird does not build its nest in the trees, nor take lofty flights, but nestles in the hedges, and mindful of his fall, avoids high places.”
So, Hawks not underestimating his enemies can be shown to be like the partridge that is careful to avoid high places. It’s not the perfect fit, obviously, as Hawks hasn’t been shown to underestimate an enemy in the past that we know of. However, I guess you could make an argument that Hawks seeing himself as being too slow to stop the league from getting too much power made him more cautious about how he dealt with the league in future.
Meanwhile Dabi as an Icarus allusion is about him allowing his hubris to blind him and ignore the advice given to him by the people around like how Icarus ignore the advice of others too. So he continues to use his flames even though he’s been warned he shouldn’t and he continues to ignore advice not to underestimate his enemies even though doing so the first time cost his the life of a teammate.
Sorry, I’m not sure this makes the most sense but I tried for you, anon!

I HAVE A THEORY! pt 2
Alright back where I last started from. So Here we are, talking about the second part to my theory. Told you it was going to be long one, but trust me. I think it worth the time to sometime hear my rambling or what I think. So let’s talk about the Double Agent part 2.
Here the first part if you haven’t read it-------> 1
2. Double Agent
Being a Double Agent is not Easy! NO one come out smelling like a fresh daisy after doing that type of work. I said this because it really not that simple. Getting information is the easy part but when you develop feeling for other. That start to become very conflicting. It’s been demonstrated multiple time in Cartoons, and some anime. It never goes well.
For Hawk, that will Happen to him too. He have a good heart, but at the same time not completely black and white Either. Remember in the last post that I talk about his individuality and choices? The Double Agent work that he’ll be doing would actually allow him to find himself but others Villain would value his opinion, emotions, and him as whole person instead of just a hero. Compare to how the commission treat him, the villain would definitely treat him differently.
I mean the League of Villain actually treat with each other with respect and care for one another. They develop a bond of friendship. They also is not all black and white as Hawk see it as such. As of now, he seem very disgusted to be working with criminal cause he think they’ll nothing but mischief and disturbing peace. As he does more double agent work though, he’ll see that there is more to it. Not only that, but I can see him becoming more empathy to their cause. Since League of Villain’s goal is some form of way, want to fix Society .Something that I feel that line with Hawk’s goal.
Remember what he say?...If you don’t, That’s okay, here the images.
and this....
and then you have this, little foreshadow....
He want to make life easier, not just for himself, but for others as well. And if you think about it a little bit more, it somewhat line up with the Villain’s goal too. Especially if you think about what Himiko Toga say how its too hard to live nowadays, and want to make life easier. She say this when she was firstly introduce in the League of Villains. Is that Coincidence that Hawk want something of the same thing like Himiko? I don’t think so at all.
Hawk’s goals line with them, and even though he doesn’t see it yet. He will eventually. Especially since Hawk have a strong resolve, and when he have a goal. He will always reach that goal no matter what.
At some point in time, He’ll side with them after forming that bond and will become more reluctant to give information of what he knows to the commission.
I also like to bet that hawk’s past might be reveal too as the more he work with the League of Villain the more we get to know him. How it will be tell, though, that’s in the air.
Now, to the next part.
3. Icarus
Okay, So we all know the story of Icarus right? I mean we all read it at some point in time in Elementary Schools or on our free time, but for those that haven’t. The story tell of Icarus, son of Daedulus who fly too near the sun on wings of feathers and wax. Who didn’t heed the warning of his father and plunged to his death toward the sea.
Not exactly a happy ending for poor Icarus, but I’m discussing this cause it very similar to Hawk.
Hawk as he describe himself in the manga as the man that’s a bit too fast. He really is a fast guy, so fast that he leave his sidekicks behind, and they have to clean up the aftermath of his fights. He never stops basically.
So, How does this related to Icarus?
Well, I did some research of Moral of Icarus and came across of Pride and Punishment as the theme. It’s was basically a lesson on Humility, and accepting your Mortal Limits. Pride falls into Daedulus but the punishment falls into Icarus. Cause Icarus refuse to accepts his limits, and in the process falls to his death when trying to fly toward the sun.
Do I think it plays a part into Hawk’s death? No, I don’t think so but I highly doubt Horikoshi wouldn’t make it that obvious. It more like it playing part him being a fallen hero and what path Horikoshi have set him on. We can also added to Hawk’s limitation as well.
Hawks doesn’t know his own limits or refuse to accepts his limits. We can even apply to his relationship with Endeavor. There are boundary for reason, step over them and you can get hurt.
We know he also getting buddy with Dabi, too, but the one that’s going to hurt him the most is Endeavor.
Let’s think about Icarus’s Symbolism again and see who connect to who. Which is not a lot by the way.
Icarus= Hawk
Sun= Endeavor
and you know what? why not change that story too a little bit.
Icarus got too close to the sun and fallen.
Hawk got too close to Endeavor and Fallen.
Now before you say, why can’t the sun be Dabi, well simply his flame is blue, and play more into cremation. Endeavor’s fire is orange, and his hero Name definition is “try hard to do or achieve something”. Perfectly matching how Icarus try to reach the sun. I’m not completely ruling out Dabi. I think he playing a part into this as well, but where...I don’t know.
Another thing is that Hawk is trying to get close to Endeavor. Remember, He is a big fan of Endeavor. Hawk want to know him more, and be very helpful to him. He want to be more than just being a co-worker and right hand man, but possibly a very close friend.
Right Now, Hawk seen Endeavor as the Flame of Hope, but since he interacting him and the mysterious villain Dabi.
Well, What if Endeavor’s life come into the light? You know, the abuse that he did to his family.
We don’t know a lot about Hawk and what he been through, but I’m pretty sure he went through some hard time himself and what probably kept him going was Endeavor. If Hawk found out about Endeavor’s abuse, that would definitely change Hawk. Of course, other stuff would to, but it would make him a fallen hero.
I even did some research on what define a fallen hero, and here what its say.
This information came from TV tropes, but it very clear what a Fallen Hero is. It have been something devastating that make them do a “Face-Heel Turn”.
Geez, what would make a hero do a “Face-Heel Turn”? Maybe learning true about Endeavor’s wrong doing?
I think that would be enough to change Hawk’s view but also change his goal to align with the villains. Especially since he will learn more from the League of Villains that play even more into changing his mind.
Now, Do, I think Hawk will be a full on Villain, that want to do bad stuff. No..A fallen hero still have some good traits. And that when I started to think is, “What type of Villain would Hawk be?”
So, I did more research on type of Villain and came across “Anti Villain.” But just for information sake, here some type of fallen Heroes role down below.
But, the Anti Villain caught my eye the most and this definition what an “Anti Villain” is :
I cut it up, but you can read it together. Sorry for the Blur. This is information is also from TV tropes as well. It list what they do and what they are.
and the personality aspect...
and there you have it. When I read this myself I was surprise. You know why, cause it match some of Hawk’s characteristic and some of his action of what he did so far in the Manga. Including the latest chapter, 240!
Here some example, not the greatest until he do more in the manga but just some small tidbits.
*When the High end Nomu attack, Hawk did Mock Endeavor a little bit.
* He knew of the High end Nomu, and even though it create destruction. He saw that the benefit, as it let Endeavor carve his way to be Number 1 hero. He wasn’t completely upset as long Endeavor won at the end of it. He did feel guilty though cause Endeavor did get hurt at the end.
SPOILERS!!! from the Chapter 240
* Hawk kill best Jeanist( until the manga say otherwise, I’m going to say that the hero is dead) He did so in order to join the League of Villain. Hawk didn’t have to and could have easily stop the job there, but didn’t. Killing best jeanist ensure his spot and continue his double agents work. Hawk saw it as the greater good, and make sure that he did what he suppose to.
See I told you, it wasn’t a lot but just some small example. So that the kind of Villain I think Hawk will be and path that Horikoshi have set him on. Of course he still hero for now, but as the manga continue I bet that going to change more and more until Hawk blurred that Line of what make Hero or a Villain.
and that it.
I think that’s all my ramble and what I think. If you stick this long, then thank you for reading. I know not all my thought is coherent as should be, but all of this was My thinking and attempt to the piece together the puzzle that Hawk will be a fallen Hero.
Do I think this might happen? No, of course not. After all, this is just a theory. Until more information comes.
Oh, and if you have some thoughts of your own. I would love to hear it.
Anyway thanks for reading. :)

Okay but the Chp 191 spoilers like....
Guys you know what this means? Hawks is doing something incredibly dangerous in being a double agent. He’s literally putting himself in the analogous snake pit.
Now on one side, he’s portraying the ‘true ideal of a hero’ the manga cycles back to, which is to be a hero that will put their life on the line to save others--- but I also specifically want to point out that his point of contact with the league of villains is FUCKING DABI. That’s THE ABSOLUTE WORST IDEA for ANYONE!!!!
Besides bringing back the whole ‘icarus flying too close to the sun’ symbolism, and also me as a lit major mentioning that the ascent/fall in that tale is used commonly with a character pursuing knowledge beyond man (in this case, the info about the league of villains), I also wanna remind everyone that Dabi is the most chaotic of the villains we’ve met so far. Toga may be crazy, but he kills ruthlessly, for experimentation, to see how his actions stir the water without worrying too much about potential consequences.
I know I’m a bit biased because I love him as a character, but I’m serious also when I say that I consider him the most dangerous loose canon in the league. And the whole Hawks/Icarus thing just fits too well with the new details put out by Chp 191. I don’t think Dabi would even have to intentionally hurt him, I think it would end up as a ‘ he got caught in the cross fire while Dabi was trying to do something entirely different’ sort of thing, kinda like this whole Nomu incident.
What I’m trying to say is that I’m terrified for our golden birb son. He isn’t flying too close to the sun he’s headed straight into the flames.

Icarus Parallel Options
-Option One: Hawks is the Icarus parallel; he’s number two behind Endeavour the Fire Quirk hero, his own quirk is Wings that Fall Apart with Use, and he sacrificed his flight feathers to support Endeavour, thus grounding him.
On the other hand, Hawks himself stated he’d rather have a lower rank than number two, and he mainly provided support for Endeavour during the fight to prove the guy as a true successor to All Might. And didn’t the Icarus myth involve a guy named Daedalus, who made the wings, much like Hawks helped make wings for Endeavour?
Option Two: Horikoshi tricked us, and Endeavour was the true Icarus parallel. He finally got the number one spot, thus putting him in the sun. Again, the flaming wings that burned away during the fight with the Noumu, along with his severe injuries during the fight. And Dabi, another Fire Quirk user, has just shown up, ready to potentially reveal Endeavour’s abusive history assuming he’s the missing Todoroki brother and bring Endeavour’s reputation crashing down.
Option Three: They’re both Icarus, they’re both crashing down.

underworld
a blue light lit up the darken alley and the smell of a cigarette burned into his memory
a shiver sent down his spine whenever blue eyes met gold
the light went out so did the cig
soft lips and cold hands met in the middle
scars and scars and scars alike
maybe they would hold each other for one night
yea, icarus did die when he met the sun,
but in the underworld
they could finally have some fun

I find it interesting you think Hawks will be burn while oppsing Dabi. Why you think it will be necessarily an avversative behaviour that will led to tragedy? Icarus was a tragedy, but it’s differently portrayed in few version. In some, it was to underline to not chew more than what one can bite. Basically Icarus died of the ecstasy of flying itself, he died from hubris. But there’s no trace of it in Hawks. other interpretations stress how Icarus wants to get close to the sun, reaching a field it should prohibited. Basically while classics says icarus was too daring, some stress he liked the sun a lot. Hawks is an Endeavor ally. I strongly doubt he would do anything that would have the man he admired hurt. So what if instead he tries to stop Dabi, and he can’t and this results tragedy? The hubris of wanting to do all alone? Besides this is the meaning of Jin’s death to him: helping others and the sin of thinking killing was the only way.
Well, Hawks is the one flying around with giant wings and getting direct narrative shoutouts to Icarus.
I’m teasing. Now that we’ve got the requisite sarcasm out of the way, I’ll answer. I think hubris is misunderstood a lot. It’s the oldest sin in the books, the oldest flaw known to man. It stretches across cultures and time. You might say it’s part of human nature. The story of the Garden of Eden records it as the cause of mankind’s fall from grace: shall we become like God?
It’s thinking you are god, but rarely do people actually be like “hey I’m literally god.” Instead it’s shown in behavior: you can judge people. You can condemn, you can save, you can destroy. It’s pride. It’s assuming you know how the world should go, including how everyone should react to you and to life, should think, should behave. It’s assuming the rules of reality don’t apply to you, that you are the exception, that you are in control.
That’s what happened to Icarus: he was given wings to become above the rest of humanity (literally and figuratively: literally because flying, and figuratively in that it is a feat left for the gods or mythical creatures). He fell and drowned; no one killed him, there was no villain, his hubris just led to a dead son and a heartbroken father. Icarus is not a bad guy. Neither is Hawks. Icarus was just a child who had been traumatized (he and his dad got imprisoned and left to the mercy of minotaurs) and the wings that his dad created helped them escape. Those wings saved them, if you will. The wings aren’t the problem either.
Hawks’ flaw is absolutely hubris. The entire hero system’s flaw is hubris, actually. @linkspooky covered it excellently in their analysis of Hawks here. Also, because of the whole “human nature” concept, heroes with hubris are relatable. They’re likable, often. From Eren Jaeger to Herakles to Icarus to Antigone, they’re characters who are sympathetic, understandable, and we root for them. Icarus isn’t a villain in his story; he’s a sweet boy who didn’t listen. Which uh. We’ve all done.
To answer your ask about why Hawks would hurt Endeavor: Hawks doesn’t know what Endeavor thinks of Touya/Dabi. Why would he? We know, but he does not know what we know. I explained this here. Plus, hubris is itself assuming you know better than someone else, so... it’s not a good recipe. I don’t think Hawks is out here being a bad dude or gonna turn into Moonfish 2.0, but instead that he’s going to continue to act on his hubris with predictable consequences--since he doesn’t appear to be drawn to personal reflection even after getting his wings burned off the first time.
I do think you’re absolutely right though that one of Hawks’ issues is trying to do things alone! So I think that’ll be part of it--while I try to shy away from predicting specifics, it seems quite possible, as I said above, that Hawks will not directly ask Endeavor about things, and thereby land himself in... sunny hot water (I’m sorry I had to joke so I don’t cry).
One more thing about tragic falls: the reason it is supposed to resonate is because the hero doesn’t deserve what they get. Sure, they do bad things, but we’re sympathetic to them and the punishment is supposed to be worse than the flaw. So when I say Hawks is tragic, that’s what I mean--not “he is bad and deserves this.”
Also of note, I know I say often BNHA isn’t tragic, and that does give me hope Hawks will be able to rise like a phoenix from his eventual fall (bird! bird! bird!). But the reason I am still expecting a tragic moment is because Hawks is, unlike Toga, Dabi, or Shigaraki, not a major shadow parallel who must be saved by the main characters. In fact, he’s not very connected to the main characters at all, at least not in the way the other three are. Hence if you’re going to insert a tragic subplot... that’s where you’d do it. Tragic subplots in otherwise optimistic child-aimed stories are not unheard of, either. Twice’s subplot was tragic, and guess who’s been linked to Twice’s subplot and isn’t reconsidering things from it? (Toga is reconsidering.)
That said, again, I do expect some kind of redemptive element to his story by the end. I don’t think he’ll just fall into the ocean and no one will care. My specific prediction is that he goes for Touya eventually, and Endeavor stops him by sacrificing himself, not by murdering Hawks, because he’ll realize that Hawks is also a sad kid, thereby giving Shouto the chance to go and save Touya. It’s what happens afterwards that I’m nervous about, but I do believe it’ll involve redemption of some sort. Right now I’m pessimistically sitting at a stew of redemptive death helping Shouto somehow, but again, BNHA is a happy story, so maybe he’ll be able to come up and stay up, but humbled. Not as a god.

Okay so I just want to ramble about the Icarus symbolism for a bit bc gdi Hawks if you die on me;;;

This is p brilliant symbolism to be honest - everything is perfect, from the light source shining specifically on Hawks to the falling feather in the foreground to the sheer arrogance in his lines. He’s a sassy little shit, he’s a young hotshot hero, he has wings and he has a sun: in this shot, in Endeavor and in the nomus he wants so desperately to wipe out of his hometown.
This bit’s quite obvious; Endeavor being compared to the sun - too hot, too vicious, too uncompromising and all-too-likely to burn off the wings of those who taunt him. But then there’s also the Nomu - in particular, this one:
Who goddamnit looks so fucking much like Kurogiri (@ shigaraki what did you do). Cutting from Hawks asking for a teamup to get rid of nomus to this particular nomu, said to be “a more-evolved nomu”; called “high-end” and capable of responding (which is very, very important) I’m basically absolutely fucking terrified right now. Especially since Horikoshi seems to want to tear down the hero system as it is so that the next generation (the current U.A. students) can rebuild it.
