Nonkul and Bright's experience in queer media prior to I Feel You Linger In The Air

So... I've fallen down the huge rabbit hole that is I Feel You Linger In The Air (even though I was already down bad earlier this year when I finished the novels) since the airing of the series. I've tried my best to consume everything translated IFYLITA-related content and now I'm here to summarize a few points I love about the (immaculate) casting of Nonkul and Bright.

For Nonkul

Prior to IFYLITA, Nonkul has had a few BL-adjacent projects:

2014 indie gay film "Love's Coming", where he plays a friend of the gay protagonist.

2016 sitcom series "Bang Rak Soi 9/1", where he plays a student with a crush on his straight best friend (main character played by Tongtong, who you may have known from To Sir With Love or Khun Chai)

2019 chinese bromance "Dive", where he plays the 2nd main lead who develops "strong friendship" with the protagonist as swimming teammates

But IFYLITA marks Nonkul's first time playing in a BL series where he is the protagonist.

Back in 2021, Nonkul posted this Q&A video on Facebook, where he answered the question "If you have a chance, would you consider playing in a BL series? If accepted, who do you to co-act with?". To which Nonkul went on a full long discussion on how he doesn't view BL as a genre and talks about what kind of role he would want to play (full clip below).

If that series is an interesting storyline for me, I am always open to any kind of genre. I never categorized BL series as an BL series, I just think of it as a series with another plot as part of my work. It is a normal series that can have any of the plots which I will categorize as Romantic Comedy, Drama or whatever. Thus, when I choose the BL series I want to work with, the love preference of the character does not affect my decision. If the plot of the series is interesting, of course I'm gonna do it for sure. Every work that I chose, I personally think it at least enjoyable for me. Of course, if in the future, there are BL series with plots that I find interesting, that I enjoyed the script. "Like, wow, that's my type!", I will definitely selected it to be my future project. A good written series is a good series. This is what I believe as an actor. - Nonkul

For BL Series, I think I can work with everyone. I don't think I have anyone in particular. One thing! I desire the character of that person/actor? to be close to the character in the series. At that point I will be satisfied. Sometimes, I as an actor have a chance to work with people who didn't have a lot of acting experience. I will still discover something new from him as well. And there is a BL novel which I really like! [Nonkul explains the plot of his favorite BL Novel 'Peremo'] I would prefer to choose the "heroine" role because it will be a new experience for me as an actor because it will be a new experience for me as an actor. Because basically I only play as a hero role for the main character or support character in my work, but a "heroine" role in a BL series is the only chance for me to play a character more feminine. So it is a new experience for me. [Nonkul continues raving about 'Peremo']. But if you think that you can make [an adaptation of Peremo], please do not forget me, Nonkul! Pleaseeeeeeee, I will do my best, I promise!!! However, I'm not only fixated on this novel. I'm also open for many more BL series if there is an interesting plot. - Nonkul

Interestingly the 3 checklists Nonkul mentioned his dream BL novel/character 'Peremo' had was 1. playing the 'heroine' role; 2. it has a LOT of action; 3. it is also sci-fi fantasy genre. And then in 2022, Nonkul booked 2 action dramas and IFYLITA which checked off criteria 1 and 3 of his wishlist (he mentioned it in this interview).

In 2022, at the beginning of IFYLITA announcement event, Nonkul mentioned that one of reasons that he accepted to play Jom in IFYLITA is that the story didn’t just put love scenes in just for fan services. Previously he had rejected some series because of that.

Nonkul read the novel prior to the acceptance of the role and you can tell he put a lot of care into bringing Jom to life (Nonkul immediately tweeting his apology after the pilot trailer is out about him accidentally using right hand to sketch (because Jom is left-handed), discussing various novel details with fans of the book at event, discussing how to punch Ohm like Jom would instead of punching him regularly as he would in other series, even giving book-film comparison commentaries in the BTS of the episodes)

Nonkul's physical and facial features are also so similar to Jom in the novel, especially his Chinese heritage is taken into account by the casting directors (Jom is also Thai of Chinese heritage iirc). Honestly kudos to P'Tee and co for snatching Nonkul.

For Bright

Prior to IFYLITA, Bright has played a supporting male gay character in the CH3 Lakorn 'Rivalry' and starred in PP Krit's MV 'It's Okay Not To Be Alright'.

But IFYLITA still marks Bright's first ever male lead role (ngl I was quite shocked when I found out about this because like the man is SIGNED to CH3, what are they doing?) AND his first official "BL" series.

Bright also accept the role of Khun Yai after he went to buy the novel and read them.

Before filming, Bright practiced a lot to portrayed Khun Yai as close to the novel as possible (the way Khun Yai walks with hands behind his back, his posture, him speaking in the different local dialect...)

Here are some translated interview questions Nonkul and Bright did before filming IFYLITA for bangkokbiznews that I found really interesting and want to share (original Thai article) (translated by twitter user lingerair/eugust)

Question: How is your individual characters? How are they similar or different from you? (1)

Nonkul: Jom and I are very different. Jom has soft and sensitive part. He cried so many times, and often gets upset with things that if it's me, I wouldn't be upset like him but his tears is already flowing. Bright: Khun Yai is quite similar with me. He's calm and wise. It's easy to be Khun Yai when I read the script. I try to put myself as Khun Yai. I'm Khun Yai and Khun Yai is me. I always think like this to be able to moderately act as Khun Yai.

Question: BL series has become a powerful "soft power". What do you about this? (2)

Nonkul: To be honest, whatever entertainment media it is, I view all of them as soft power but can't deny that during this period foreigners are especially interested in Thai Y series. I think it's a good thing. In the end, no matter what kind of content they are interested, it's a pleasant thing. Bright: Bright agrees (to that) very much. There are so many BL series with many fans both in and outside of the country, thus I think that it's good quality soft power in presenting a lot of things. Such as "I Feel You Linger In The Air" has a lot of Thai culture incorporated it in. Nonkul: Since it's period (series), it won't look like we're forcing Thai culture into (the series). We want foreigners to learn about how was it during the era and how it affects the present.

Question: This novel has a lot of fans waiting, do you feel pressured in taking a role in this? (3)

Nonkul: There's a little bit of pressure but personally, when I've worked till this point, I'm kinda used to this. I can say that I already have some expectations (for myself) and receive some pressures as a motivation in working but I'm not that stressed by it. Bright: Similar to Non, I'm a little bit pressured but we will both do our best, everyone will do their best. Fans has expectations because they want to watch the adaptation. We'll do it in our way and we hope everyone'll likes it.

As a huge fan of the novel, I just love how much love Nonkul and Bright have for the original novel and the amount "homework", care and dedication they have to crafting their characters to be as close as possible. I really hope everyone who have reservation or hesitance watching I Feel You Linger In The Air because you didn't vibe with previous Dee Hup House’s productions, should still give IFYLITA a chance (or at least try watching Episode 6 & 7) because it is seriously unlike any previous DHH’s productions (in all aspects: plot, direction, pacing, cinematography, music, lighting, color-grading, overall production…)

Couple of questions.

Why does Jensen insist on playing Dean in every role? Even someone asked him at the FBBC party if he chose the “Dean clothes” for Tracker and he admitted that he purposefully played Dean in this show. Doesn’t this make him seem less desirable to hire?

Why would CBS want to include so many supernatural elements into a new series like Tracker? From the lines, to including an Impala look alike, to his clothes, to specific scene setups. Even using “carry on” song in their promos.

Help it make sense.

Link. Oh man the clip blasting the "Carry On" song was jarring. it hit me between the eyes and gave me sink eyes.

Jensen has been playing Jensen "Dean Winchester" Ackles for quarter of a century, since Days of Our Lives.  It made him a multi-millionaire by his 30s so I don't blame him for typecasting himself.  Ideally, he should go the Tom Cruise route and really commit to The Dean by showcasing the character in different ways.  I read that Jensen was able to do this for his father-daughter scenes in Big Sky when he's not copying and pasting Dean Winchester the rest of the time.  That's the downside of typecasting if you're not improving your craft, you start to see those same roles as mere jobs and gone are the passions and true capabilities.  Unless you want to play the same role over and over again, then typecasting is good. 

Ideally Jensen the personality actor should be "mastering a niche".  By repeatedly playing similar roles, actors can refine their skills in portraying certain characters or emotions. This can lead to mastery over that niche, making them the go-to person for those specific roles and sometimes even earning them critical acclaim for their expertise.  For example, Morgan Freeman embraced his typecasting as an authoritative, wise, and often calming presence, and he's frequently cast in roles that require a dignified figure even when he's playing a baddie in Hard Rain.  Freeman used this typecasting to become one of the most respected figures in Hollywood.

This hasn't happened yet, as seen in The Winchesters ;Jensen went from Jason Teague to Dean Winchester when he's thinking and talking about Sam.  From the 30 second Tracker SPN sizzle reel clip, it looks like Jensen is showcasing a version of Dean Winchester as a lone wolf archetype and Justin just happens to be in the scene.  If any of you seen the 90's Renegade about a lone wolf ex-cop on the mission to clear his name with the help of a Native American partner/assistant, this is what the clip reminds me of.  

That said, the amount of SPN easter eggs in the clip was not fun, mostly because I kept looking for Sam Winchester and instead I get some dude who looked like he accidentally wandered in the SPN verse in a daze and giving Dean Winchester the side eyes.  Look, I'm sure Justin is awesome as the lead of Tracker, but I couldn't tell with the SPN sizzle reel featuring a Dean-solo show.   One or two easter eggs are fine, like Nathan Fillion's Rick Castle dressing up as Nathan Fillion's Malcom Reynolds from Firefly for 5 seconds in a Halloween episode and speaking fluent Mandarin.  But Rick wasn't behaving or dressing like Malcom 2.0 for the whole episode.

Either the episode was written by a SPN fan or CBS is testing the waters to see if "Supernatural" without the actual supernatural could work in Tracker by adding Dean 2.0 as a recurring character.

CPN : random thoughts 🍬🍭

dumping some minor cpns that has popped up here and there for convenience. as usual, i need one space to ramble.

I also want to take this opportunity to applaud yibo-official for releasing that 1 hour + bts footage. They just went f*ck it and didn’t bother splicing it, they went ahead and dropped it on us out of nowhere. maybe one day they can post an hour long yibo vlog or photo set of yibo selfies. you know. just a suggestion. lol. The last post they made seemed like the final HB related content to share but apparently not. I am so thankful! This is best 3/14 gift!!!! I guess this is also a treat for “yibo movie fans” all over the world who continue to show their support for the overseas screenings.

1. Back in January, YBO posted for HB reaching 300 million in the box office and emphasis on the 3 ( zhan ). People have noticed that this scene looks like it was shot 10/5/2021 — ZZ’s birthday. What a coincidence that they chose this photo to be assigned to the number 3.

2. The way they dropped this big BTS content is reminding us of how the CQL 160 minutes bts was shared before. Is this them taking a page out of that? If there is something turtles are good at, it’s going through hours and hours of BTS footage! This is nothing to us!!! 😂😂😂😂

3. Also this was edited heavily, i can only imagine how many hours of footage they have. The selection of clips and what they can show. The music and it’s arrangement. going back to XZS being quiet — it’s a cpn that the two teams probably worked on this because the project is too big to accomplish by one group only. or maybe it needs a sign-off from the creative director xiao zhan. lol.

The important part of YBO’s post tho is their caption. Especially the part which said : Everything about Mr. Ye is dedicated to all fans of @UNIQ-王一博

I don’t know how many times I have said that Yibo is really making the necessary steps to make himself more mainstream. by that i mean, shedding the title of traffic star. the label itself isn’t all that bad tbh. lots of artists would kill to have the same traffic he does so they can have more endorsements and better scripts their way. however, i observed that he is transitioning to being an actor who hopefully will be loved by a lot of people and not just his core fans. The same goes for XZ, tho he is having a harder time staying away from being a traffic star and his own rice circle. I am in no way discrediting 🍤 or 🏍️, I just mean that the end game for the boys is to be a national celebrity. This transition leaves a lot of responsibility to existing fans like us, to be more welcoming to the new ones. This is why I get so mad when fans pay more attention to drama and fan wars cause it turns off potential supporters. It’s a huge red flag seeing a toxic fan group. I really hope one day, things do settle down and fans learn to be more chill.

4. Another ZSWW cute rumor posted said that WYB will still fuss when he sees old BTS videos of XZ scolding him. So XZ’s advice is to not scold the one you like even if you are jealous — who knows, you might end up together. This is too funny cause we know how fierce ZZ was with WYB, sometimes it’s already scary and you can tell the times he was jealous. 😂😂😂

5. Lastly, Weibo night posted some drama CPs and put it as a 9 grid photo. The pairings are not the most interesting part tho, it’s the top comments. 🤡

On a regular day I would totally say that this is so unnecessary cause we have to respect the drama CPs on that post. Also BJYX is not really a “drama cp”, it’s WANGXIAN and if you believe in SZD there is really no reason to try and compete with commercial CPs. Plus it might indirectly harm the boys too. But i’m feeling petty today so i’m cackling. That’s all. You ask us about a CP? Okay, how about we clown you? I have no love for Sina Weibo and WB night at all so i don’t feel sorry for them or anything. We are just telling the truth, the pairing of XZ & WYB is truly superior. You ask, we answered. What I said about being careful is still true but sometimes you just don’t give a f*ck. It is what it is. 🤡🤡🤡

Help I'm suddenly plagued with thoughts of Popstar Sensation!Shino AU. It's so dumb.

He can sing. He can dance. He can play guitar and piano. Dude's all kinds of popular. He always seems to be so poised and mysterious in interviews, yet on stage he's, like, crazy athletic with his showmanship and his presence makes itself known. His main asset is his Grade A Coolness. But surprise! He's actualy a Tripple Threat Musician! He's also a talented actor! But, no one really knows about the last one. Why? Because there's always a camera in his face in public. So he's always acting.

On stage he goes by simply Moritaka (play on source material). In reality, he's still the same old Shino Aburame we know. He's still a huge nerd and Insects are still his special interest. He plays many instruments due to his upbringing but keeps that on the DL because his Record Label has this Image for him. He sings lovely sweet nothings and danceable anthems on stage, but when he pours his soul into his writing, it's more raw and sad, usually very cathartic and often with a hint of bitterness. Not something that can rake in the success as easily as the Pop Music he adapts to as it's given to him, but it helps him cope. He loves his layers goddamn it, and sometimes he feels like a clown on stage with these "fashion savvy" outfits they pick out for him. He especially misses his glasses on stage but he can manage well enough with his contacts, though they do really irritate him sometimes.

Shibi had made the choice to hide Shino from the public eye as much as he possibly could from a young age, so very few people could figure out what he looked like as a kid, especially after he chose to start wearing prescription sunglasses specifically.

He lives a sort of Hannah Montana double life with a "Lucky" by Britney Spears flavoring. Except he started as a young adult, 20's sensation, so he's also unfortunately sexualized to a much higher degree right off the bat and the heavy emphasis on his looks can be very tough on his skin, let alone his nerves and insides. But he's not blind to his own attractiveness. Plus he'd be damned if the constant dieting and working out didn't amount to anything. His day job is less of a job and more he acts like a nerd about his beloved bugs and is very active as Shino in online communities dedicated to Insect love and information. In fact, days off for Moritaka include Shino being secretly Philanthropic and he's always furthering his education in one way or another. He didn't become a sensation over night, his family's been in the Music Business, but the Label would have you believe he was a nobody who made it big of course. He probably did this against his family's wishes tbh and the secret identity was to give the name Aburame absolutely no credit. Spite is such a motivator you guys, and selling his soul for sum amount of years means he can do what he realy likes in his free time. When he has it, anyway.

The fun part for me, the main part for me, is that all his old classmates don't recognize him as Moritaka. But, they're all fans to some degree. Especially Ino and Naruto, the two who were the meanest to him for no good reason lmao

Ino thinks he so unbearably handsome and can watch the same dancing clip over and over again. Naruto genuinely likes his music, who cares if it's Pop!? It's super catchy and super good, that's the point!!

Just... imagine Ino and Naruto winning two VIP tickets to one of Moritaka's Bigger Concerts and they're going feral the whole time and Shino has to refrain from reading them to absolute filth and revealing his true identity during backstage access and dinner and an after party or whatever the winners of the contest win because they're all over him now when from K-12 they literally wanted nothing to do with him and went out of their ways just to shut him down or bother the hell outta him with complete disregard for his feelings hahahahaha

Well, mostly Ino tbh, but adding Naruto specifically as her plus one because he was that big of a fan just makes it funnier lol

Pairings: Elijah Mikaelson x GN!Reader

The sun was shining when Elijah Mikaelson began to understand jealousy in its unending torture. He wasn’t used to such an emotion. He wasn’t used to the blind rage that filtered through his body when he caught sight of you laughing with his brother. He wasn’t used to the want that would settle deep within his gut whenever he made you smile, laugh.

He supposed there was a sick juxtaposition in the fact that there he was, a creature of the night, sitting in the sunlight as he watched you laugh along to whatever story Klaus was currently telling.

It wasn’t as if he hadn’t felt jealousy before, but Elijah had never experienced it to this extreme where he felt like the villain of a fairytale, desperate to steal the innocent love interest away and keep them for eternity.

“You wrestled a bear!” You gasp, bringing Elijah’s attention back to the room. Your eyes are  wide as you hang onto every word of Klaus’ story.

The narrator nods; a smug smile crossing his face as he begins to act out the crux of the story. “We had this newfound strength after we were turned by our mother,” Klaus explains, “And the bear was easily disgruntled, choosing me for its next meal.”

“What did you do?”

“Well, love,” Klaus croons; his smile turning to a smirk as he hears Elijah grit his teeth. “I chose to engage.”

“Why would you choose to do such a thing?” You demand; eyebrows furrowed in confusion and concern for Klaus’ ability to make sane decisions. Elijah makes himself turn away; if he could, he would press away the furrow between your brows with a kiss, explaining that his brother was ever the exaggerator as he was an actor.

Klaus shrugs, lounging in his chair with a self-satisfied expression on his face. “Because I could and can,” He answers plainly, catching Elijah’s narrowed gaze from across the room and raising a single eyebrow in challenge.

Elijah doesn’t rise to the bait; doesn’t give himself the chance to. Instead, he leaves the room, feeling your frown on his back with every step he takes away from you.

“Have I done something to offend your brother?” You ask Klaus; your voice small as you stare at the doorway Elijah only walked through moments ago. Elijah had been off with you for weeks; staying in the room with you for limited amounts of time before stalking off to another room. He rarely spoke, but the soft timbre of his voice sent shivers down your spine with every word uttered. You couldn’t bear the thought of having offended the man you found yourself attracted to.

“You’ve done nothing, love,” Klaus reassures in a rare moment of affection. “My older brother just has some issues he needs to work out.”

“Oh,” You reply, falling quiet and remaining so for the rest of your time spent with the supernatural family.

“Are you going to explain what is wrong with you, or are you going to stew in your feelings all night?” Klaus demands of his brother as soon as he enters the room, having seen you off only moments ago. The decanter of whisky sits open on the coffee table; one glass out of the two already filled halfway. Klaus helps himself to the other glass, pouring a knuckle’s length of the amber liquid.

“I don’t know what you’re referring to,” Elijah states airily, bringing his glass to his lips. He knew full well that he was jealous; he knew that was distancing himself from you and his sibling, unable to bear the rising envy clawing at his throat. What pains him most is that he can how his distance affects you, how hurt you look when he returns clipped conversations. The furrow between your brows deepens and he feels like a monster for being the cause of it.

“Your behaviour in front of (Y/N),” Klaus explains, doing his best to keep the anger aimed at his brother at bay. “They think they’ve offended you.”

“(Y/N) could never offend me,” Elijah states vehemently.

“You’re going to have to explain that to them.”

“I will eventually,” Elijah sighs, finishing off his drink and quickly refilling it.

“Whatever it is, brother, you can tell me,” Klaus promises in a rare moment of softness.

“That’s the thing, brother,” Elijah begins, “I don’t know what it is. All I know is that I see you two interacting and I lose my mind to jealousy.”

“Ah,” Klaus whispers, a knowing smile on his face as he places his glass on the table. The younger of the two men stands, clapping his brother on the shoulder before leaving the room.

Klaus finds it hard to keep the smile off his face as he wanders the halls of his New Orleans home. His brother had found his soulmate and hadn’t realised it. Their mother had warned them of such magic; the natural magic of the earth that created two souls to be intertwined perfectly. Outwardly, Klaus didn’t put much stock in the belief, but he had seen his mother turn his siblings into monsters cursed with having to walk the night for an eternity. It would make sense for soulmate magic to enter the Mikaelson home once and for all.

Elijah doesn’t stand from the chair; he remains seated for the night, resting his chin on his hand as he tries to get to grip with the feelings roused in your presence. He can no longer deny the attraction he feels for you; can no longer ignore the fact that he would give everything to wake up in a morning with you beside him, but what he cannot explain is the darkness of the jealousy holding him in its grip.

He only leaves the chair when he hears your voice chiming off the stone walls of the compound they call home. Your laughter lightens the atmosphere of the house; bringing joy to a home that was so used to the darkness of Klaus’ moods.  

The kitchen is bright with the morning light as Elijah settles at the table; his gaze already fixed on Klaus and yourself. The former grabbing a box of cereal from the cupboard as you help yourself to the fridge for the milk.

It’s as you sit down that he begins to feel it. The sunlight catches you perfectly; your hair practically soaking up its rays as if you were to become the celestial being itself – the brightness radiating out of you with every laugh, every smile, and every animated gesture of your hands as you tell off Klaus for the fifth time already today. Elijah tightens his hand into a fist in an effort to keep the growing possessiveness at bay.

He didn’t know where it began; this dark urge to possess you. All he knew was that the majority of the time, his thoughts revolved around you along with the word ‘mine’ on repeat. The façade of the gentleman, so carefully crafted after a millennia wandering the earth, began to crumble in your presence. Elijah could feel the green eyed monster clawing its way through his body, its claws sinking in deeper with every friendly glance at any man that wasn’t him.

“It comes with finding your soulmate,” Freya announces to her younger brother; the earthy scent of sage blooming around her as she takes a seat next to him. Elijah raises a single eyebrow in question; not in the mood for futile conversation today. Freya represses the urge to roll her eyes as she elaborates, “The jealousy. The irrational anger. The want. It comes with finding your soulmate.”

“Soulmates are a myth,” Elijah counters, finding his gaze drawn to you – watching you talk to Klaus, laughing at one of his calmer moments. The very action has Elijah clenching his fists to keep the anger at bay.

Freya fixes her younger brother with an unimpressed look. “Elijah, you’re one of the oldest vampires in the world, and I’m a witch. We are the myths whispered around campfires.”

“I suppose you’re right,” Elijah wonders in awe. “I never thought I would have one,” He continues in a softer voice, thinking of his past lovers – they had never made his mind race, or his breath stop in his chest, they were never his last thought at night and his first thought in the morning.

You were, however.

Elijah meets the gaze of his wiser, older sister to find her already watching him with a fond smile on her face. “Go speak to (Y/N),” She urges in a soft voice, “Explain everything.”

With the support of his sister, Elijah makes his way to where you sit with Klaus. His younger brother already regaling you with one of his many stories about his past; the darker parts of each tale hidden away this early in the morning. Klaus pauses his tale as Elijah clears his throat. “Could I have a moment of your time?” Elijah asks of you, glancing between Klaus and yourself. Klaus raises an eyebrow but wisely remains quiet.

“Of course,” You murmur, standing from your chair, following the older gentleman to an alcove just down the hall from the kitchen.

“I wanted to apologise for my behaviour,” Elijah starts when he feels certain that his siblings aren’t listening in, “I’m sorry if I’ve hurt you in any way over the past couple of months. I’ve been coming to terms with some personal things and Freya, thankfully, explained the cause of such behaviour this morning.”

“Your apology is accepted, Elijah,” You laugh, smiling happily at the taller gentleman, taking note of how he seems closer to the Elijah you have come to know and love. “What did Freya explain if you don’t mind me asking?”

You place your free hand on Elijah’s chest, fully aware that you would not feel a heart beat under your palm. Even through the designer material of his perfectly tailored suit, you can feel the coolness of his skin and whilst many would be repulsed by the lack of warmth, you only feel further attraction for the man in front of you.

Elijah’s hand covers yours; the action speaking louder than any words could. He can feel the life thrumming through your veins; the vitality that punctuates the air with every breath you take. He feels drunk on his feelings for you; at a loss to understand how your paths crossing months ago could lead to a moment like this.

for those of y'all who say that sambucky scenes don't look gay, or even if they do, it's all by an accident, or that's all anthony and sebastian i just want to tell you something:

marvel isn't dumb. any hint of gayness, especially the visual one - it's always a big no-no. they're making everything 'no homo' (with some rare exceptions), and we all know it.

stackie are stackie, but they're qualified, educated and experienced professionals, they know what amount of their chemistry to leave on and off screen.

now, directors, writers and producers were choosing the scenes to put into the final version of the series. there were many shots done, just compare the trailers. so why did they choose the ones they chose? (keep the first point i wrote in mind). i'm sure there were different kinds of shots done, some gayer, some not. but we got what we got, and if you actually replace sam or bucky with a woman - it's a love story, romcom, without a question.

i don't know where i'm going with all of this, but it's just sometimes i have this internal debate on whether sambucky will actually become canon or not, and my hopeful self has these arguments, so i decided to write them here. i know i may sound too hopeful, but... who knows? (i will be super disappointed if sam and bucky will stay as friends at the end because my brain just accepted the fact that they have to be canon, but i won't be surprised)

all the things kari and malcolm (and actors) said about sambucky's relationship

the scenes? i know for sambuckies it's normal to think about the gay content we got, because we think about it everyday. but if we were to actually sum it all up we have so many, that i'm afraid i may forget something:

first we got the staring,

then rolling in the field,

therapy scene (+ their legs intertwined)

2 days of flying (read more detailed analysis by @redwingsupportgroup here) on a private jet (what were they doing all that time??),

then all of the sudden the staring problem dissapears (you can read about it more in this post by @yikesdontlook),

fixing the boat together while having all this intimacy, holding hands for ten (10) seconds straight while looking at each others' lips,

MY HAZBIN HOTEL FANCAST

now, this is mostly a human au for obvious reasons. whether you want it to be an out of hell matter, a simple “imagining them with all the makeup and/or cgi needed” matter, or a them before death matter (when it makes sense, like for example it wouldn’t work in charlie’s case) doesn’t really matter to me. therefore, this is mostly based off vibes rather than true visual attributes most of the time. i also tried my best to get faceclaims who have some sort of singing abilities because hazbin hotel is supposed to be a musical of some sorts, after all.

amybeth mcnulty as charlie magne

i purposefully kind of went out of my way to find a young faceclaim, like in her early twenties, because many of the best choices i have seen for charlie otherwise, like evanna lynch or margot robbie, are past their thirties already, and i thought giving a younger option would be better. i was pretty torn on who to choose, however, since i also thought of elle fanning, huening bahiyyih, and grace van dien for the role. they may also work as alternative faceclaims if you are not feeling amybeth! the reason why i chose her over the others is because i could not find any clip of grace van dien singing, elle fanning’s singing voice does not fit charlie much in my opinion, and (as you will see later) i have already chosen a k-pop idol for one of the later castings which may have been redundant if i chose huening bahiyyih, plus from what i know her english is not super fluent. amybeth mcnulty hasn’t sang much, but she has two covers of riptide (here and here) and one of would you be so kind (here), from which i have come to the conclusion her voice could probably fit charlie just fine.

lizeth selene as vaggie

obviously, i looked for latina actresses for this role. i encourage finding a salvadoran faceclaim if you can, but i couldn’t find any that have proper resources around (and who fit the whole “could be in a musical” thing), hence why i settled with a mexican faceclaim instead. i apologize for that. lizeth selene is a singer as well as an actress, and i think she works voice wise honestly (examples here and here). she also speaks both english and italian, as does vaggie.

jamie campbell bower as alastor

i feel alastor’s fancast may be what many people who come across this post are looking for, and i therefore i apologize if it ends up being disappointing. i feel the voice is very important when choosing someone for alastor, as a big part of his charm comes from that. jamie campbell bower has a gorgeous speaking voice, and so i thought why not? he has shown to be capable of performing similar roles before, and i think a more playful twist to them such as alastor’s character could be great. he is also a pretty good singer, considering he has his own music career after all (examples here and here). if that isn’t any good, though, you can maybe relate on the popular fancasts that are bill skarsgård and johnny depp. if you want a poc twist on alastor, though, then allow me to also suggest hwang hyunjin (korean),  yamazaki kento (japanese) or marwan kenzari (tunisian).

troye sivan as angel dust

again, this choice was chosen over another for the sake of not being redundant. another definite choice was holland, who is a singer, an actor, a person of color (korean) and is gay on top of that too, but i didn’t want to put more than one k-pop idol among the main chosen cast, so i went with troye sivan instead. i, as a queer person, do not mind non-queer people portraying queer characters at all, but i thought troye just fit, so the fact he is gay too is just a bonus, to be honest. plus, some are made uncomfortable by non-gay men portraying gay men, so this may help them, too. i actually found out troye has acted in some works before, such as ‘qantas, I still call australia home’ and ‘three months’, so that may help with making him a good choice. that aside, he is a singer, which is what he is most known for, and i think his voice actually kind of fits angel dust. it is very far from his original voice, let me clear up, but i could still see angel sounding like that nonetheless (examples here and here). and honestly? he just looks the part. i will give the credit, though, to @darkhendra​ and specifically this post of theirs for the idea.

jamie park as cherri bomb

jamie doesn’t have any professional acting experience to my knowledge, but she has the looks for the part and the voice, in my opinion. some examples of the latter include her cover of monster by red velvet (watch here) and gangsta by kehlani (watch here), which really fit cherri’s overall vibe in my opinion. overall, i think she’s a good choice, and i like the concept of an east asian cherri anyway, since we do not get enough badass asian rep that isn’t super fetishizing in media, with a few exceptions in recent works.

Thank you so much for your answer on my second TSR question. All your answers have been very thoughtful, and have made me look at the show in a new way.

I had a doubt regarding Ember Island Players episode, the "clip show" episode. First, I have seen other clip show episodes in other shows where we get a sense of the character development of the main characters, which EIP does fulfill, I have read a lot of metas pointing out the negative tropes used, or about the ship baiting nature, which makes me wonder, with recognition of the issues in the episode because of critical thinking developing in fans as the years have gone by, has the episode been subjected to re-evaluation, in extension with the whole Last Airbender series as well?

I've been sitting on this ask because I'm not sure what you're asking. As you said, many people have analyzed EIP through a critical lens, so that answers your question about whether it has been subject to reevaluation.

Your inclusion of the whole series makes me feel the need to point out, as I think many other people have before, that the problems with the episode don't just exist isolated, they cast a negative light on the series as a whole because some of the more problematic parts, like Aang's entitlement or the subtle misogynistic jabs at Katara or the anti indigenous narrative, are problems that have existed throughout the series and can be seen throughout, especially in hindsight.

This is also true of the ship baiting, which on its own is not necessarily a bad thing - I take my zutara crumbs where I can get them - but the issue I see with the way the episode deliberately ship baits is that the creators also chose to make fun of their audience while doing it, and in a way that is rather mean-spirited. And all that was meant to boost KA, which backfired hilariously because this episode makes KA look really bad, and makes Aang look hugely inconsiderate of Katara's feelings while the episode portrays her as a misogynistic caricature. We're meant to watch actor Katara onscreen and feel Aang's pain when she goes for other boys, and when the real Katara says she is confused, but in the year of our lord 2022, why shouldn't a girl be confused? Why shouldn't she express attraction for other boys? Especially since Katara and Aang are not even a couple.

I don't know if this answers your question, but I can tell you that some of the dialogue and scenes in that episode would have never flown if the show were made today, like Aang saying he thought they were gonna be together because they kissed (which is a big nono that they teach kids in school nowadays) or him telling Katara that he is so angry at seeing her actress kiss other boys that it makes him feel like he might fly into an uncontrollable rage go into the avatar state. If the Netflix show is smart, they'll either do some heavy rewriting or use it as teachable moment and have Aang realize how shitty he was being there, but given the popularity of the series already I have less hope for that happening. I do anticipate new reviewers will skewer it, though.

Your trevor meta is making me realize how weird it is that the writers and cast were so insistent that mickey wasn't coming back, because I don't think theyve ever really known what to do with ian's story without him. They put him in these lukewarm relationships and tell us they're so much better and healthier, but then have ian straight up admit that he still loves mickey and nobody else has made him feel the same way. How do they set that up and then have him go back to trevor? They set up ian moving on with "I'm not that person anymore" and follow up with season 8. It's like okay...who he is now is gay Jesus? Lmao. He's always been the shows forgotten middle child and after they wrote mickey off "for good" they could have taken him in a million directions but they chose one so shitty it basically made cam leave lmao. Sometimes it feels like fan insistence kind of forced mickey back but in actuality, the seasons where he's gone just hammer home that he was always the inevitable end to ian's story. So bizarre how little the showrunners understand their own story sometimes.

Ok. I’m going to be a little more Doylist here than I usually am, because we’re talking about what the writers are thinking. And I’m also going to take this opportunity to share this fascinating article from the AV Club in 2016: When Fan Engagement Goes Wrong. Everyone beware, it contains significant spoilers for The 100. But it’s also largely about Gallavich, the fact that online promotion of Shameless leaned hard into the popularity of the couple, and were up against it when Noel left. I’ll quote: 

“[Supervising Producer Shelia] Callaghan’s choice to be honest and straightforward when engaging with fans is admirable, and yet also on some level futile. She can’t tell them exactly why Fisher chose to leave, she is (logically) unwilling to spoil future storylines outright, and she can only speak her own mind as part of a collaborative process over which she holds only some influence. So while many fans respect her effort to maintain the connection to this now marginalized community, others attack, reinforcing that attempting to manage these situations is a full-time job that no one has been properly trained for.” 

This article links some tweets and the one I find the most interesting is this one:

“But the actor left.  So...what to do? Have them just break up?? Felt way less true to me than a forced separation!” 

That tweet is from Krista Vernoff, who wanted to convey that they tried really hard to come up with what they do with Ian now that he’d lost Mickey. And I’m sure they did try really hard. And.... People hated it. Mostly. 

Here’s what I think, based on what I’ve read and the interviews I’ve seen, on deleted tweets and Tumblr rumours and YouTube clips: The show didn’t want Mickey to leave the canvas. At all. Noel wanted more money. The show could not come up with both that money and the money they needed for everyone else. The show let him go. And hoped they could solve the creative problem their budgetary problem had dumped in their lap. 

I actually think Ian’s story in season six is decent. I miss Mickey, of course. I find the last scene with him really painful -- but it’s not painful because the show is trying to diminish him. They write and then cut together a scene where Mickey is DEMONSTRATIVELY still deeply in love with Ian. He’s carved his name in his chest. He is looking at Ian like he’s the most beautiful creature ever given breath. And Ian can barely meet his gaze. They tell us Mickey is being sent away for 16 years but when we see the last of Mickey Milkovich in season six I think “God, this is so sad. They love each other so much and this is so fucked up.” 

I do NOT think “We are NEVER EVER EVER getting back together.” 

The show always knew what it had with Ian and Mickey. They leaned into it promotionally. They gave meaty storylines to the characters, particularly given that Ian was the fourth lead on a family dramedy built around six children. John Wells replaced Aaron Sorkin on The West Wing. He knows how hard it is to follow a phenomenon. 

The more I think about it, honestly? I don’t think they tried. I think they knew that they couldn’t bring in Mickey Milkovich, the sequel in season six, so they brought in Caleb. And maybe they meant for him to be a LITTLE more viable than he was... but I think there’s a pretty good chance they were just throwing something at the wall to see if it stuck, while being fully aware that the important storyline in season six was getting Ian from despair to a fulfilling career. Caleb was just there as a catalyst. 

Season seven if more interesting, because Trevor is brought on and it’s very much... “Hey, let’s do something new. Let’s bring on a transmasc character and put him into a relationship with Ian and explore those complications.” 

“Great! Put it up on the board!” 

“Also. Let’s call Noel Fisher’s people and see what we can work out because we can do better with Mickey’s send off and people are yelling at me on the street about it.” 

Quite honestly, these are not equal tasks for his writer’s room. You have one story -- Create a whole ass new character. The only thing we know is that he’s trans. Figure out the romance from there. You have six episodes to get them together as an established couple. 

Then: Bring back the well-established and beloved character for an epic romantic two-episode arc where he reunites with his true love and they run away together and then ultimately realize it cannot be, and say goodbye and it all feels like I Will Always Love You should be playing in the background. They actors worked together for five years. They have a great professional partnership. They like working together. They have a ton of history so there’s lots of juicy subtext. The longing and sexual tension comes pre-established. See what you can do. 

HOW do you make both those things work out so that they are equal? You need lightening to strike. And that already happened on How I Met Your Mother. They squandered their good luck and now there is none left for Shameless. I do not disparage Elliot Fletcher at all when I say that for Trevor and Ian to really work he’d have had to have come with scorching chemistry with Cam, rich material that really gave them a good opportunity to build rapport between the characters, and A wizard standing by to cast spells in the wings. They had SIX episodes, a pretty average connection between the actors, and the “these are the LGBTQ+ people in your neighbourhood” scene. 

I just can’t believe that someone with as many years of TV writing under his belt as John Wells has expected that to work. He hoped the Trevor story might be good, and was certainly going to break some ground in terms of telling trans stories. And the Mickey story was going to be the highlight, because he knew people wanted it and he also knew that they’d had something pretty special to start with. Which is why people were yelling at him at Comic-Con. I DO think he hoped it might placate fans a bit. But... he wasn’t going to completely close the door on Mickey this time, either. 

So... I don’t really think the show every intended to write Mickey off “for good”. I think they wrote him off “for now, and we’ll see what happens...” -- and they did that with Karen, Shelia, Jody, Steve and Fiona, too. They only brought a few of those people back... They brought Mickey back three times. They ended Gallavich FOUR times. Noel is in ever season except eight. I don’t think they wanted Mickey gone -- but I KNOW the fans also made it pretty hard for them not to know his value, so absolutely I think that played a role. But when you create something people love and you get that lightening in a bottle like they did with this story, I think writers are always going to be excited to get that back. They like praise! They like people to be excited about their show. And Gallavich was always one of the things that got people excited about Shameless. 

I think they also wanted Gay Jesus to be a great story. But that’s why the lightening in the bottle is so valuable. You can’t just get it anywhere.

Theory about episode 21

For those of you who don’t know, Gloob hosted a Miraculous Day event with the voice actors of the Brazilian/Portuguese translation dub. One of the things they did was read this spoiler scene from an unnamed season 4 episode.

Both of Marinette’s parents get akumatized together. It could be because of Marinette’s increased lying and how she never spends time with them anymore, like when she physically pushed Tom out of her room when he wanted to play Mecha Strike. (Which episode was that? I can’t find the moment for the life of me). It could also be because of something else like unreasonable customers or someone posing a threat to their daughter. Maybe Tikki was secretly but unintentionally messing up their orders from the start and they got upset because of that.

Anyways, according to Plagg, Tikki seems to be going through some sort of relapse of her devastating sugar addiction. I wonder if her saying, “spots on” is a translation error, or if she can actually force Marinette to transform. Since Marinette wants the opposite of what Tikki wants, and Tikki is threatening to operate without a holder, I would assume that that line should’ve been, “lucky charm”. Or maybe she’s just saying, “spots on” for dramatic effect like one would say, “it’s go time”?

If Tikki goes rogue, what can Marinette do? She can rely on Chat to catch Tikki and possible other allies to take care of Tom and Sabine, and she can get Rena Furtive to cover for her, but Marinette wouldn’t just sit out of a fight, especially not when her parents got akumatized since she knows them best and this is a brand new villain. The only other option would be pulling out one of the other 14 miraculous she has at home a la Multimouse in Kwamibuster.

I had this post in my drafts before this TFOU trailer dropped, but the clip from this episode shows only (Astro) Chat taking care of the Tikki thing, which makes me believe they split up, and Marinette is fighting her parents. (Oof, this isolation visual symbolism thing is getting out of hand, and this is ep 99 too...) It’s possible that Plagg and Adrien can get Tikki to calm down quickly, but I think she’ll only come around in time for the end to do the purification/miraculous cure/magical charm sequence.

Which miraculous would Marinette use? My biggest candidate is the goat. I’ve always found it interesting that Ziggy is present in most of the kwami scenes and has many spoken lines, especially since her power hasn’t been used yet, and her future holder rarely ever has lines. @kisilinramblings made some really interesting posts about kwamis’ presence in certain scenes being symbolic to what they represent and how their power connects to whatever Mari and friends are doing at the moment. I’ll make a different theory post about the goat power later, but I’m guessing it’s something that can be applicable to a lot of problems as opposed to some of the really specific powers.

Zag store posted this on Instagram and it also caught my attention. Why make merch of this? Marinette’s disguised goat miraculous from Kwamibuster? I assume it’s a lot easier to produce than most of the miraculous, and it’s cute, but it feels so random. There isn’t merch of any other disguised miraculous save from some of the major ones that correspond to their usual user, and there isn’t even merch of the normal goat clips yet, and those don’t seem too hard to produce either. Maybe it means nothing, but I’m curious as to why they chose to sell this. If Marinette wore them again in the show, I think it would make a little more sense.

Lastly, I brought this up to some other people and they mentioned the stickers on Marinette’s face in the photo collage intro where all the girls have stickers of their kwami animal. They said Marinette’s are black and white like Ziggy, so it could support my idea, but I believe that those are supposed to be a panda.

I actually think if they cut the cheating plot out this season would rate higher and if david kept to decision to let Arthur decide that the best decision was to chose himself instead of one the girls it would have been way more profound. Because i think very little SKAMs depict the importance of sometimes being alone. Also Robin my GOD can that boy act.

S6 = C-/maybe a D in some episodes

Once again what doesn't make this scoring worse is the acting. The acting is always very good with the skam france cast but lola’s season was such a cold soup. I like the idea drug use in teens. Topic was good and the idea of broken families but it was just soooo aggressive. Hence why i said s5 could be better if we didn't get so hammy with it. David always does that he has a half decent idea but he throws everything and the kitchen sink and its very hard to digest. Also ovi Eliott was sorta of shoe horned into this season even tho i can't be mad because we got to see him get excited over a bunny which is still one of my fav moments and Basil grandad admitting sometimes guys experiment with each other. hahahahahaha. Also Maya is such a beautiful soul.

S7 = C

Ughhh the bully season.... it was fine. The actress was amazing(when aren't the france mains not amazing tho). But i didn't get certain decisions concerning baby daddy and girlfriend and why did basil come back?!?!? IDK what saved this season was the camera work, acting and and directing decisions. S8 = C+

So here is the issue with Bilal's season. If you just focus on his first 5 episodes before JO its actually very good. We didn't need Jo i get the network asked for it but bilal was super interesting on his own and Khalid was a fucking beast. Fantastic actor!! Poverty, prejudice, financial literacy, lost of business during covid. So many topics here and when they talk about them they were good. We didn't need Jo. Sexually transmitted diseases do need to be depicted but IDK i just felt like the jo storyline felt so forced.

S5 = A

Its the best original season and on par with s3. It was just fantastic. The last scene where Nora feels again and she starts running to josh like when the Isak runs to their Evans but now it was in the reverse it was beautiful. Also all the context within the Machwitz family was so good. Dealing with parents who are addicts and how destructive that can all be. I will always love this season.

S6 = C

So much potential but we kinda of went no where. I like Kieu My and Fatou but they aren't enough story for me. We had so many moments like being displaced as a kid of immigrants i wanted to know more. The learning difficulties also i wanted more. Prejudice and confronting white privilege but Fatou was never the center of the story and I just wanted more of everything.

Predicted Grades:

Italia probably gonna be a B but they have such a huge budget.

Druck s7 probably if they read our issues with s6 it will be a solid b. I love exploring the dynamics of male friendships. We see it in Italia and SKam fr but we never really see what happens when the friendship is just plain toxic but both friends really love one another. Like Robbe was treated like shit by his friends but I don't think Robbe had the kind of love Ismail and Constantine have for one another. Its clear they ride and die for one another and I just think the whole thing will collapse. Like I said before I feel like Druck s7 is basically gonna be the prequel storyline to all the Eva seasons like we see Eva after the collapse Ismail's season will show us how a friendship completely goes nuclear.

I Won’t Say I’m In Love

Request: How about a oneshot with him and reader reciting a scene from a future film project. Reader is secretly in love with Henry(but being insecure enough about herself and her looks that she never would deserve him). The scene reveals an intense love confession, that would end with more..amorous activities. With all those feels inside, reader do not have a problem to get in the right emotional set for the scene. Pairing: Henry Cavill x Reader

Author’s Note: I chose one of my favorite scenes from The Tudors for this because it has very intense undertones and thought it would fit perfect for this oneshot.

“Do you…” You clear your throat, trying to get into character. “Do you play cards, Your Grace?”

Henry keeps his eyes on you as you read from his script. He’s clearly fighting a smile at how terrible you are at this, though he does his best to stay in character. You’d agreed to help him go over his lines but you hadn’t made any promises about being a skilled acting partner.

“Sometimes,” Henry replies, giving you a look that makes your heart race. It must be the way he’s meant to look at the other character in the scene because Henry has never looked at you with that dark glint in his eyes. It makes your toes curl.

Henry Cavill is your best friend. You’ve grown up together. He’s been by your side as you struggled through college and you cheered him on as he struggled to find a film that would make his acting career take off. But you’ve also been in love with him since you were old enough to understand what love is. You’d been more than willing to run lines with him, but hadn’t realized that it was a love scene until you did your initial read-through.

“What game shall we play?” you ask in a monotone voice as you read the next line.

Henry clears his throat. He drops the act as he says, “Margaret’s supposed to be… seducing me.”

You raise an eyebrow. “What game shall we play?” you moan out.

Henry laughs, though it’s more half-hearted than you expect it to be. Your eyes might be playing tricks on you but… is he blushing?

You clear your throat and say the line again, this time trying to say it right. The words bounce playfully off your tongue as you speak flirtatiously. “Better?” you ask.

Henry clears his throat and nods. “Y-yeah.”

God, this is so uncomfortable. You laid it on too thick. He’s probably regretting this idea now.

Henry scoots forward in his seat and rests his arms on his legs. You two are sitting across from each other with less than a foot of distance between you. It feels casually intimate, just how the scene is supposed to be. You ignore the way your heart begins to beat faster and heat rises up your neck.

“You choose,” Henry says, once again Charles Brandon.

You continue on in the scene, exchanging lines back and forth like it’s a casual conversation. Henry’s hand sneaks around your leg to the underside of your knee and tickles you. You gasp and shy away from his light touch. Another look at the script tells you that this isn’t part of the scene. What’s he doing?

You read your next line, “Don’t tease me, I don’t like it!”

Henry pauses for long enough that you look back at him. His eyes are serious and you know him well enough to sense the glimpse of pain in those beautiful blue orbs. “Will you like it when an old man tries to make love to you?”

Make love to you. You practically gasp at the way those words sound coming off his tongue, so sinful and teasing that you want to taste them. And damn if the way he’s looking at you doesn’t make something in your stomach tighten.

You force your gaze to return to the script, silently hoping that you’re not blushing as brightly as it feels like you are. “Y-your Grace goes too far already.”

“The Gospel says the truth will make you free.” You can hear the smile in his tone, teasing your character, pushing boundaries.

Your grip tightens around the paper in your hands. “Now you are blasphemous. M-my poor…” You clear your throat. Is it suddenly hot in here? “My poor ladies shouldn’t hear you.”

Henry stays silent, his gaze locked on you as you read the next lines in the script. Margaret’s serving ladies curtsy and exit, leaving her alone with Charles. Margaret moves to the door and closes it before stomping to Charles’ side.

You look back up at Henry. The distance between you suddenly feels nonexistent. Your heart is racing now, petrified that he’ll be able to read your thoughts written all over your face. He watches you with hesitant interest, but you can’t tell how much of that is Henry and how much of it is Charles.

“I want you to leave,” you say, not having to look down at the script as you read the next line.

“Do you?” The way he says it--it’s not even a question and you think yes, he can see right through me. He’s playing with me, trying to get me to the point of admitting everything--

You swallow. Your voice shakes as you say the next line. “Y-yes. Now.” The heat inside of you is making it impossible to breathe, to move, to do anything but look at him.

Henry inches towards you, a smile on his mouth as his eyes stay serious. His gaze is locked on yours as he murmurs, “Pity. I had a winning hand.”

You can practically feel his lips move as he speaks, you two are so close. You can’t breathe and you swear it feels like you’ll implode if he doesn’t touch you--

Your gaze falls to the script just long enough to see the next stage direction: Charles and Margaret kiss. Oh--

Thick, calloused fingers are gentle on your chin as he moves your face up. You move just an inch until your lips meet his. It’s barely a brush of your mouths but it’s enough to set you on fire. You’ve wanted this for so long, dreamed about it too many times to count, and now it’s finally happening. His mouth moves hesitantly against yours, testing the waters. Once again you can’t tell if it’s supposed to be Charles kissing Margaret, or Henry kissing you, but you’ll take it either way. You don’t know if you’re meant to deepen the kiss but you do. He loses all sense of hesitancy when you begin to kiss him back. His hand moves to the back of your neck, pulling you closer against him and you gasp as his other hand wraps around your back to pull you onto his lap. Your hands move to cup his face. You run your fingers along his stubbled jaw as he kisses you so deeply you feel it in every inch of your body. He breaks the kiss to start sucking on your neck.

“Oh, Henry!” you gasp out.

Both of you freeze.

Shit.

Fucking shit.

You weren’t supposed to say that.

You weren’t supposed to kiss him back, yet somehow you’re on his lap. How the hell are you supposed to explain that? Oh sorry, I was just getting carried away with the scene. You’re not an actor; he won’t believe that in a million years.

You’re a goddamn idiot.

Henry pulls away from you first.

You can’t bring yourself to look him in the eye.

“Uh… that’s probably a good place to stop,” he says.

You force yourself to nod, wishing the ground would swallow you up. “Yeah, I think you’re right. We should definitely stop there.” Forgetting yourself for a split second, you look back at him--

Fuck.

The way he’s looking at you… His pupils are completely dilated, his mouth parted as his breathing comes in short, shallow clips. His face is flushed and he looks--god, he looks like he wants to kiss you again.

“Henry…” you breathe out.

His gaze bounces between your eyes and your mouth. “Or we could… not stop. I mean, I need all the practice I can get.”

Your focus zeroes in on his lips, already red and starting to swell. You bite your lip at the things running through your mind right now. “Practice makes perfect,” you agree.

And suddenly you’re kissing again. His hands squeeze your hips and move you against him. You gasp when you feel his erection straining against his jeans. Fuck, this is arousing him too. His mouth moves from your neck to your exposed chest; you’d opted to wear a low tank top today and are suddenly aware that that was the best decision you’ve ever made. Your body and brain are no longer in sync. Instead your body works its own agenda as your hips move against him, rubbing your clothed core against his erection. Henry’s grip tightens on your hips and the pain is delicious, burning your insides even more. Thoughts on Street Dance of China 4 episode 2

(Aka Fishy is screencapping shows again. I’m screencapping straight from Youtube so sorry for the shoddy cut off screencaps but blame Youtube for having their player bar cover the video. I’ve never understood that because it’s always in the way.)

(Also Episode 2 part 1 is really just “How many times can Han Geng and Henry hug” and the answer is “as many times as they want”)

- Not really sure why Henry chose Anissa and Tuzi for the 2 vs. 2 battle, especially since Anissa was really not confident about it :( I felt really bad for Anissa because she seemed super nervous!!!!! I just hope that she doesn’t lose enthusiasm and that she can continue to enjoy the rest of the competition v.v

- Kelo and Uwa were extremely impressive though. Like, the way they move together is so awesome and cool.

- Among the dancers, Xiao Jie is actually really good at speaking. No wonder he gets interviewed a lot, because he’s able to describe the dancers to us layfolk, but he is also very smiley and entertaining.

- How dare Yixing be this cute 😤😤😤 He’s definitely far more relaxed when he’s just a spectator, that’s for sure. He was laughing at all the jokes and awkward moments and generally so much more animated when just part of the sidelines.

- Henry covering his mouth because he was enjoying Xiaohai’s performance was pretty cute too, not gonna lie.

- I liked San’er from episode 1, so I was cheering for him when he participated in the 3 vs. 3 battle lol. But it was really interesting to hear the conversation when Wang Yibo asked his team why San’er lost the battle. Ye Yin and Liangliang told him that to the judges who are old school, they care less for explosiveness, and more for actual skill, and while San’er’s performance might’ve looked really exciting to the average viewer, that’s not what the old school judges look for.

- So apparently Lil Kev plays a lot of mind games, and we saw that during his battle against Bozi. So he’s like...the Brad Marchand of breaking lol.

- Are...are we gonna comment on this hug between Poppin’C and Xiaohai? Lmao

- What are they being so cute for. (Also don’t @ me but Bunta is....really cute)

- Is it just me, or did we get fewer behind-the-scenes practice clips this time for Han Geng vs. Henry compared to Yixing vs. Yibo? Particularly for the 5 vs. 5 battle.

- Dimple alert. (Sorry I know this is a Han Geng vs. Henry battle but Yixing just looks so freaking cute today)

- Han Geng.....has a really soft and gentle voice (it is simping hours up in the fishy house okay). He speaks particularly quietly during his one-person interviews and his voice is so pleasant to listen to in those clips.

- Henry was talking about how he wanted to do that move with Poppin’C where they’d lean back on each other’s knees and do a wave with their arms. For some reason that move struck me as something that was very Henry like. He just strikes me as the kind of guy who uses a lot of waves and smooth-looking moves in his dances.

- Also lol @ Henry being “non fatigue!” That Ontario French curriculum at work.

- Han Geng and Henry trash talking each other except it just turns into a walk down memory lane about how Han Geng used to take care of Henry.

- Don’t even act surprised, y’all knew I was going to screenshot this.

- Kitty is amused.

- Of course Han Geng would end his routine with a big ol’ hug. What a huge softie.

- I did think that Han Geng and Xiaohai were kind of a rough duo because even if they were in sync, it was hard to tell because of the height difference. Actually, I spent a lot more time focusing on Han Geng, especially towards the end when the rest of the team crowded around them and he was visibly one of the taller ones.

- Henry’s move where he stood on Poppin’C’s thighs was super cool!! His performance was just super fun to watch. I felt like I was having a good time along with them haha.

- I think Han Geng and Xiaohai’s second performance was better because it relied less on being in sync performing the same actions. However, at this point, Poppin’C and Henry have kind of created a specific brand (TM) for themselves, like they are so uniquely charming to watch, so they have firmly won me over Han Geng and Xiaohai’s team.

- Running into a hug? Are you kidding me, Lau Hin-wah???

- One of the dancers on Han Geng’s team was crying because he made a mistake in the 5 vs. 5 battle and Han Geng is like why are you crying? And gave him a playful slap on the shoulder.

- Why is that the ads done by the dancer contestants are so much more entertaining than the professional ads (the ads with mainstream celebrities or with professional actors).

- Henry’s written the pinyin on top of the Chinese names of his team members. Better safe than sorry, you know?

- Lmao how dare they bully Tengzai and Shitou by making them talk XD

- I think that when Henry assigns his team members to certain battles, he is thinking more about the combination of styles, rather than the skill level or  synchronization. When he assigned Anissa and Tuzi to the 2 vs. 2 battle, he wanted to try out the East vs. West approach, but the opposing duo of Kelo and Uwa had a lot more history together and were obviously better as a collective unit. When it came to Chen Mo and Waiwai, he was interested in seeing a waacking duo. In theory I think I know what Henry was trying to imagine, but I think it is difficult to have a really intense waacking duo because it’d be hard to synchronize very high speed arm movements. In the end, they went with some moves that were simpler, and I think that’s why they lost out to Tengzai and Shitou. That being said, Henry did win his first battle against Han Geng. I think it’s just the 2 vs 2 battles that are his weakness. The 3 vs. 3 battles are really just individual battles, and the 5 vs. 5 battles are usually made up of dancers who are used to routine group dances as opposed to solo or duo dancers.

- A quick word about the judge Icee. His name in Chinese is 王冰冰. The 冰冰 part is self explanatory enough (冰 means ice), so where does the 王 come from? I read somewhere (I forgot where), but apparently his wife’s surname is 王, so he just took on her surname for his Chinese name. Don’t know how true that is, but I think that’s cute.

- So often I see Bunta and Ibuki having fun and cheering on other people, whether it’s their own team members or dancers on other teams.

- Less than a second flashback of Zitao from a previous season v.v Please producers...let us have a LayTao reunion....please....I beg....

- The 5 vs. 5 battle between Yixing and Henry’s teams was pretty fun to watch, probably because the song was so hype lol.

- The leader battles between Yixing and Henry were really entertaining too though.

- The first piece of music for Henry and Yixing’s leader battles was very very cool. Like, it was just a nice piece of music to listen to, and I think that the kind of music it was gave way to rather creative interpretations. Henry and Han Yu went for a more story-based approach, whereas Yixing and MT Pop focused more on an aesthetic. I preferred Yixing and MT Pop’s performance here.

- Henry and Han Yu also had a pretty solid performance for the second song. As for Mingming and Gumball, they didn’t really perform “together,” because they were both doing their own thing, but their individual performances were interesting. (Also let us acknowledge, nothing gets Yixing turnt like KRUMP XD He was so into the performance haha)

- I was so caught up in the euphoria of Henry/Han Geng that I forgot that Henry and Yixing also had a past history, but I think their friendship probably mostly existed off screen. They were from different groups after all, but we also know how low key Yixing has always been. Even if they were bffs we never would’ve known. I also remember on Back to Field, Yixing said that Henry helped him install and set up his music software, so they probably have some kind of rapport on the music side. But yeah, it just seemed like Yixing was rather formal about it all, calling Henry his 哥哥/前輩. And Henry seemed to look at Yixing like his son lol. He was like oh look at Yixing and how far he’s come, etc.

- Xiao Jie said that he’d battled Hilty & Bosch 14 years ago, which means that Xiao Jie isn’t that young, which may be why he’s so chill lmao. Anyway, Xiao Jie is a very entertaining dancer to watch, and he worked well with Shen Zihao. But of course, HB are formidable themselves as well and their chemistry is just too too good. And they’re just incredibly clean dancers.

- Yibo went over to Han Geng to scope out who he was going to send out for their battle. Xiao Jie tried to warn Han Geng about this but he was too late and Yibo already made his attack. But the entire interaction between Yibo and Han Geng was so lols because it was so strange lmao. Yibo was straight up like “who are you going to send out during the battle?” And Han Geng kept thinking that Yibo was trying to play mind games and use that to gleam other information from him. So Han Geng’s answer ended up being really confusing too, he was like “if that’s what you’ve decided I’ll follow your lead.” The thing about Han Geng is that he is too senior for Yibo to clown on, so he is actually being serious, and Han Geng is trying to keep things light haha. (I think Yibo would totally be his normal gremlin self to Yixing and Henry, but Han Geng is like the next tier up from them both.)

- LMAO Aki-san calling out Tony-san for being older than him XD And Tony Gogo was like what have I ever done to you??? I love Aki-san hahahaha.

- Okay Aki-san vs. Nelson was pretty awesome, but SO WAS BORIS vs. ZYKO???? Holy crap that was sooo much fun to watch because like....human bodies can bend that way? And Boris and Zyko aren’t small guys, so it was insanely awesome to watch.

- Side note, Boris’ Mandarin is pretty good. I looked him up and on his Instagram he says he lives in Shanghai, so it makes sense that his Chinese is good enough for everyday communication. In one part of the show he was instruction Yibo on dancing and like, he was not stuttering at all.

- Wait, Han Geng says that he’s known Yibo for 10 years :o So I just looked him up and it turns out Han Geng has been with Yuehua Entertainment since 2010, so I think the math makes sense. Wow, how time flies. He always such a dad though, he’s always like, the top priority is fun and happiness!!! And honestly, he’s right. Like, what is this show if not just a huge dance showcase more than an actual competition?

- Physically impossible for Han Geng not to hug his didis.

- I love that in a dance party full of dancers, some will still choose to slow dance like this.

- Of course Henry will come and praise his gege. (ft. Nelson in the right lol)

- Yo I love Rochka. He’s one of the chillest guys there.

- The kids’ performance was cute :3 Their little jumpsuits uwu

- Also one of the kids was Shitou’s daughter and it was absolutely hilarious how he still introduces her in the most monotonous and neutral voice and he was like “please give her some encouragement” in the most low energy voice ever XD The b-boying kids were super legit though. Oh and apparently Xiao Jie’s son was one of the dancers too :3 Somebody was like “yo Xiao Jie isn’t that your son?” and he was like “lol yeah.” XD Aren’t they cute?

Daveed Diggs on Keeping It Weird: ‘I Can't Become Somebody Else — I'm Just Not Very Good at That’

The real Diggs will tell you he grew up "poor and happy," shuttling between the homes of his white, social worker mother and Black, bus driver father, never wanting for a thing — that he spent more than a decade as a performer who happily plugged away at the margins until Hamilton declared him something more. "I know if you look at my history, it seems like I was a struggling artist. And I was, but I also chose those projects," he says of the kind of experimental art he never actually abandoned. "I didn't accidentally end up in Word Becomes Flesh or whatever it was, I chose to do that choreopoem and I liked living like that." [...] "I really don't have very many sad memories from my childhood," he says the first time we speak. What Hutson didn't yet know is that at Diggs' first meeting with his manager, he handed her a copy of the latest Clipping album and asked that she listen to it before they discussed his career prospects. "I told her, 'You've only seen this other side of me, and this is actually the shit I'm going to keep doing and you have to be OK with that, too,' " says Diggs. "And then I said, 'I want you to tell me how I'm going to make money, but I want you to tell me how I'm going to make money and not how somebody else is going to make money because then I have to become somebody else and I'm just not very good at that.' " Nor, it was clear, was he interested.

What inspires you this season? A lot of emotions I hope for and surely the colours and a good mood. And we need it right now!

Are there symbolic places in this season? I believe so yes. 🐉

The embedded opening times, like in the last scene, is that a desire to modernise? I don't know if it's modernized, but there was a desire to change. You can count on @ tianesm to surprise you 🔥

The characters are blooming more and more in S7, that's good! That makes us smile in difficult times 🙂

How is it shooting during covid? 🤕 Difficult. We have to be VERY VERY careful. Masks, gel, desinfecting, PCR tests, as well as a excellent covid nurse who took care of us and whom I thank here @ pinotgaucherama . We've had the luck of not being interrupted. 😷

Not a question but I love the first sequence of the season. Thank you! It was very complicated to shoot, surely because you can't trick the order. It was a big challenge for the crew this season and for @ lucie_fagedet.

How much time did it take to film the whole season? It took 42 days to shoot the two seasons.

No masks? It would be very sad that you wouldn't be able to see the smiles of la mif. Especially that of @ adhallah.charki

How did you do the recruitment for the new ones? They went through castings! There were a lot of candidates but @ khalilpockt and @ adhallah.charki caught our eye immediately. We wanted see how they fit la mif.

How many episodes will we get this season? 10!

At the moment, is there a character you'd like to see their potential used? I love all of them for different reasons. You, you prefer someone?

Will we see the nurse like in the other seasons? It looks like she always works at the lycée, so... 🙃

The teaser was incredible! How did filming go with such a sequence? It was look, it took 5 hours. We keep shooting until it's perfect. It took around 30 minutes each time to change the set up inbetween scenes. A big challenge for the crew who gave a lot of themselves. And big up to @ lucie_fagedet.

Is it you who chose the original soundtrack this season? The original soundtrack has been a team effort. It's @ owlle who did the composition, but you'll have the opportunity to listen to titles from other artists who've been chosen together by @ owlle and @ tianesm.

Max is certainly super beautiful. He has something. You've picked amazing actors. We never pick actors for their beauty, but I'm sure @ sohanpague will like the compliment.

Are conversations with dark humour important for you? I liked that conversation! Dark humour, that's the humour of la mif. That's also the humour of @ instassoun and the authors, mine also! Love that you liked it! ✊
