so something i noticed on my latest black sails rewatch is that despite most of the show taking place on various ships we never really find out what skills silver has as a sailor? like he's pretending to be a cook when flint's crew picks him up and we never see him doing regular sailor duties on the walrus, and when he's briefly left in charge while flint is ashore he says that he's basically agreeing with whatever mr. de groot says to hide that he doesn't know what he's doing. but also he wasn't the cook on the ship he was on before the walrus and he knew where to damage the ship to keep vane's crew from leaving charleston, so he is an experienced sailor? maybe? i don't have a point i just love how the more you watch the more you start having flint on the cliffs moments where you realize that despite watching him for four seasons, you don't really know anything about john silver

Fully of the belief that Miko is only seen as an annoying character because of the dynamic between her and Jack.

Miko in isolation isn’t an annoying character. She’s reckless, and unwise, and has to be bailed out of trouble every five seconds, but this isn’t really an issue for any of the bots because as far as they’re concerned, this is Normal Human Behaviour™. They are constantly having to work with and around humans or bail them out of trouble.

Bulkhead adores Miko. He is exasperated by her like a parent is of their toddler, sure, but I wouldn’t say he is annoyed by her in any way. Her interaction with wheeljack is another example. When she exists with the bots by herself, she doesn’t come across as burdensome. She’s just limited, as every human is, by the curse of being small.

It’s only through her interactions with Jack, and his continuous challenging and calling out on her behaviour, that Miko becomes an annoying character. Frankly, it’s the tension between them which annoys the audience. We can only watch the same cyclical bickering between children before it gets old.

I have noticed that there actually are a lot of people who do like Miko, and find Jack super annoying instead. It seems like people pick one or the other depending on how you interpret which one is causing the tension. When I watched tfp as a kid, I loved Miko and hated Jack. Like, hated hated him. Because I saw Miko as a fun punk rock kid and Jack as the one needlessly calling her out. Upon rewatching tfp as an adult (who works with kids a lot) I related far more to Jack, and so the situation flipped; I saw Miko’s actions as more frustrating to watch.

The writers did eventually try to fix this, with the one heart-to-heart scene between Miko and Jack. But it was kind of rushed, and didn’t leave any lasting change to their dynamic. They went right back to arguing.

Tldr: Miko and Jack are annoying together. Fans usually pick one of em as the cause to be annoyed at but honestly, they are both fine on their own. Children bickering is annoying even in a fictional cartoon lmao

-how little hunter was in comparison to Belos in the storyboard art. Why did they change that give me my eight foot tall man back

-the fact Belos self harms so fucking much I though this was a kids show wtf

-the time span between Philip entering the isles and finding Caleb, it had to at the very least been around eight months

-Philip trying to survive in the isles I mean how many times did Luz almost die and she had eda!!! Philip had literally no one how did that mf survive

-does Belos still pray, like oh haha religious old puritan blah blah but like did he still actively participate in his religious values

-like hands and knees begging god for forgiveness in his weakest moments

thinking about how we know he's not stupid, how even juno admits that.

do you think, at least partially, that some of that's a front? do you think he recognized that sasha and juno were the angry ones, and he internalized that he wasn't supposed to be?

do you think he realized that his friends were so prickly and angry that to get them to open up to him he had to be stupid? that juno wouldn't tell him what was wrong unless he got him to yell?

do you think, somewhere inside of mick, there's rage towards old town, towards mars, that he never expresses?

thinking about mick jumping in to save juno from the proctor's mannequins. how many times do you think he did that as a kid? was "stupid" enough to throw himself into a dangerous fight to protect the people he cared about?

thinking about mick watching the dark matters stream. thinking about him seeing juno pointing a gun at one of the members of his family, in the prison uniform mick helped him get into. thinking about how this time mick couldn't jump in. he couldn't stop what was happening.

and sasha wire, goading juno. trying to force him to shoot him.

thinking about mick mercury watching sasha wire force juno steel to aim a gun at someone he loved. thinking about how much mick must know about what happened to ben. thinking about how mick must know that sasha knows too.

thinking about that cup of oolong tea. do you think mick thought of it too? do you think he thought of juno trying to tell him something, looked at juno on the screen and sasha next to him, and thought of a cup of oolong tea going cold?
