'an idiot like you' followed by 'im naive. im foolish.' IDK MAN.....#ITS LIKE AI DI IS ACCEPTING AND LOVING ALL OF CHEN YI'S INADEQUACIES. WHILE DAMNING HIS OWN. feeling so stupid for feeling so much #for someone he cant help but love - bc their lives have always. been. entwined. & you see that love echoed in chen yi. in how relaxed he is #how he kisses ai di's choker..follows ai di's lead & ai di's mouth. before chen yi's mind knows its ai di his body knows & loves him easily

you know what, I actually will talk about this because it's bothering me. The issue with focussing so heavily on syd and carmy's potential for a romantic relationship isn't that there's something inherently unintellectual about romance or whatever, it's that a lot of people seem incapable of doing that without immediately flattening the story and ignoring or intentionally misreading any and all nuance for the sake of that romance. Every scene suddenly becomes about how it impacts their relationship, every analysis is done through a romantic lens, every frame or line of dialogue becomes about finding some easter egg or hint that "proves" these people should start dating. Their dynamic is absolutely a fundamental part of this show, but if you can only see it as a will-they-won't-they, you miss so much of what the story is actually trying to say with these two.

There are good versions of this story where their relationship is romantic and there are good versions of this story where it isn't, but as soon as you decide them being together is "the point," you lose the ability to actually judge the story for what it is, not what you want it to be.

#like so much of their dynamic (esp but not exclusively in S3) has been about showing the ways that carmy's trauma and dysfunctional #attitude in the kitchen impacts other people and how even though he cares about syd and wants their partnership to work he keeps self #sabotaging and setting himself and by extension her and the restaurant up to fail and replicating the same toxic environments that #he grew up and trained in and this is very much consistent with his character and a natural continuation of the conflicts they've been #having since S1 but because him being shitty with her runs contrary to them getting together suddenly its 'ruining the story' and #out of character and only happening bc the writers just hate to see this ship winning and like. if you really think that i genuinely don't #know what show you've been watching bc it sure as shit wasn't this one. like it hurts to see him do this because you know #they could do something genuinely great together and that he's ruining a really good thing but this is also the reality of where he is rn #if he was just a good and supporting business partner and not deeply dysfunctional it would be wildly out of character #the problem w S3 wasn't that it 'ruined' their relationship it's that it had no clear focus overemphasized carmy's arc at the expense #of the other leads deprioritized the supporting cast while failing to give them their own arcs gave more screen time to #unecessary and uninteresting new 'comic relief' characters and let conflicts stagnate without resolving them or #letting them evolve over the course of the season.#this isn't exclusive to the bear this is a general trend ive noticed where as soon as the 'shipper' part of people's brains get activated #it's like they lose the ability to read the story any other way and it stops being about what's good for the narrative and starts being #about whether or not these two people kiss and anything that gets in the way of that is bad and anything that brings it closer is good #and it's usually whatever but it's really frustrating when the story ppl are doing that to is this good #it also makes people fundamentally incapable of treating any 'obstacle' to that romance in a way that isn't wildly meanspirited and #gross (esp bc those characters are usually women) which is exhausting. like no claire isn't evil or a 'pick me' or 'bad' for carmy #or a useless addition to the story or whatever other nonsense you guys have decided must be true to feel okay. she's a perfectly normal #character and their relationship is exploring some of the ways that carmy's inability to deal with or actually address his trauma #impacts the various relationships in his life. she doesn't even have to be a monster or a narrative mistake for him and syd to be #'destined' for each other or whatever. this isn't a middle school wattpad fic.#im definitely gonna get killed in the street for this but ive been looking for a good reason to spend less time on here so might as well #the bear #sydcarmy #sydney adamu #carmy berzatto

Sorry for the prolonged silence... Let's just say, things with my coworker went really well and he's now my boyfriend. Which means, my free time has suddenly gotten even more limited... But to be honest, I'm not really missing tumblr right now. 😅

This book I’m reading is so good I’m genuinely mad that I put off reading it

#before any of you get excited thinking i’m about to recommend high class literature it’s an ice planet barbarians book #specifically barbarian’s choice #i was like ‘hmm i mean i Like farli but i’ve been enjoying the formula of human x sa-khui romances’#but i wanted to read something that wouldn’t require too many of my brain cells because honestly i did a lot today. so i picked it up #and oh my godddddddd #SO good. literally so so good. i was ready for mardok to be some boring green alien; like i’d braced myself for him to have weird feet #or something like that. but he’s modern sahk??? which is somehow the absolute BEST thing he could’ve been #i’m squealing and kicking my feet in bed it’s SO good. farli is adorable. mardok is hot. mardok’s crew are dicks #the worldbuilding is chef’s fucking KISS i am living #maybe my standards have eroded after nearly a dozen books of people boning down in caves but i’m obsessed with this #i think i’m going to finish this series honestly. like i blitzed through the novellas for absolutely no reason #would anyone want me to rank them? would literally anyone on planet earth be interested in that? fuck it i might do it anyway #honestly as it stands now; this book is easily my favourite. maddie’s book is second and kira’s is third #tiffany’s probably fourth. then josie’s. and i have a soft spot for the holiday novella #bottom of the list would be stacy’s book and potentially georgie’s and liz’s. maybe asha’s as well unfortunately #harlow and lila were great but not my absolute favourites #personal

#but seriously: thing that seems to have been lost by new kids jumping on from automata... the meme used to be 'cavia hates you'#or to give it more context: cavia got sorta notorious as like evil!Kojima games; cavia *loves* games but *hates* players #yoko taro doesn't hate us anymore but he remembers when he did #and it's all over the newer games this... sorta step-by-step guide on how to read theme into game mechanics #if you just go from Automata -- a love letter -- to the first Drakengard -- an active sneering declaration of war...#it's not hard to see why people just bounce off like 'wow this game is shit'; bad-on-purpose/bad-for-a-purpose is sketch ground to pick #but the both necessary and entirely unnecessary ten thousand automata endings? that's a lesson.#drakengard 3 going so meta its plot implodes and all you're left with is the symbolic story? another #nier literally mocking you for doing unnecessary side quests and the only good ending is to literally not-play? now you're almost ready #if you can appreciate *what the game is saying* in nier by the easy gameplay doing just about everything to get you to the end #the same end that tells you your effort was less than pointless and then lights it on fire as it makes you watch #*now* you're ready to look at drakengard's maliciously jank gameplay and story that actively punishes you for digging and understand #(reason why nier both is and is not a drakengard game is in the difference between the maliciously too-easy gameplay #and 'we're the bad guys' this was all futile conclusion and drakengard's maliciously too-hard gameplay #and 'we're the bad guys but from the opposite angle' we as devs are literally laughing at you conclusion)#(and you can see that best in drakengard 3 which *is* a drakengard game through and through even with less jank mechanics)#heh hot take: drakengard and pathologic are kissing cousins #also also: Drakengard is to NIN's Hurt as Automata is to Cash's Hurt #(((but where's the essay OP? in the tags apparently; keep up :-p)))

Rewatching "Into the Badlands" and the scene where Quinn comes back from slaughtering the Butterflys, covered in blood. And he immediately starts making out aggressively....

That.. that is Jacob Seed energy and it doesn't help that Quinn has that same terrible haircut.

#Quinn is the bad guy hes a really terrible #hes also kinda hot #actually really hot #I think he might be (one of the many) reasons I find Evil Megalomaniac with a god complex really hot and fun to contemplate #this scene is so evil too because his wife and his dying son are literally sitting in the next room and wife can definitely hear them #but the sheer intensity of Marton Csokas's performance in this show is *chefs kiss*#anyway I want a blood covered Jacob Seed hopped up on adrenaline to pick me up and carry me away #Jacob Seed #it really doesnt help that they have the same haircut
