Months After I Leave

I’ll be inaccessible, traveling every now and then. 

You’ll wonder what’s happened to me. 

I’ll appear to be happier without the routines we’ve had

the plans we’ve made

the laughs we shared

the tears I cried. 

You’ll miss me and wonder

if I miss you too. 

You’ll know I’m somehow doing better

even though 

you gave me the world 

but the smile on my face will be grander 

more luxurious 

truer 

when I’m dancing somewhere 

in the real world 

discovering for myself 

knowing that there was more 

knowing that your love engulfed me

engulfed my spirit

engulfed my love 

for life. 

You’ll see me and realize

it was never meant to be

but be grateful 

for at least having the chance

to experience 

the healing love 

that did not 

belong to you.

THE FIELD BETWEEN BLAME AND SHAME. This poem was inspired by Social Arts Performance at Presencing Institute Global Forum 2020. I recited it at Inner Development Goal (#IDG22) Summit, Stockholm. As the audience reflected on these lines, I realized that they are relevant (even more) today. Not only for societal challenges like war, climate change, health crises, etc., but also for personal and relational conflicts that we all go thru.
