"Myeu-muh? What's Myeu-muh?" Darcy asks, unable to pronounce the name of his hammer.
Jane watches Thor with a careful eye. He seems genuine in his words. You haven't known Thor for long, but he does know how to be charming when he wants to be. He's a big space god that she is falling for.
"Jane, can I speak with you for a moment?"
Erik pulls her and Darcy off to the side. Both you and Thor can tell he doesn't care much for you two, mostly Thor. It's probably because Jane is infatuated with Thor instead of with you.
"You need to be careful, Thor. Humanity tends to wage wars against things they don't understand. Didn't you hear what your dad said? You're going about this like a warrior. What would a King do?"
Erik's phone rings and he answers it without knowing who it is. He looks at you while on the call and hands you the phone.
"It's for you."
You only contacted one person since arriving back on Earth. You take the phone with a sigh and step off to the side to take it. Erik goes back to Jane and Darcy to continue their conversation.
"Hey, Nick."
"Where have you been?"
"What, Natasha didn't tell you what happened to me?"
"Her saying a cloud took you away was a bit hard to believe."
"Yeah, well, it's a long story. I was serious about finding someone else for your team. He's a work-in-progress but I think he could be a valuable asset to the team. You're still working on it, right?"
"Yeah. Getting Stark on board is more challenging than I thought."
"Yeah, you're on your own with that one. Look, that hammer that you found belongs to a Norse God. He's hell-bent on getting it back."
"Let him."
"Are you serious?"
"You say he's fit for the team, right? No offense, I need more than just your word. Bring him here and then we'll talk."
"Fine," you sigh. "I don't have a phone right now. I'll call you when I can."
"Don't worry. I'll be able to find you."
When he hangs up on you, you turn to Thor who is waiting patiently for Jane to get done talking to Erik. When she does, the entire group comes together.
"Here. Thank you," you say to Erik and hand him back his phone.
"I'm sorry. I can't take you," Jane sighs.
"I understand. This is where we say goodbye." Thor takes Jane's hand and kisses the back of it. She blushes from the contact. "Jane Foster. Erik Selvig. Darcy. Farewell."
Thor turns on his heels and walks toward a strip of stores in search of something. You follow him into a pet store that is meant for dogs, cats, and small animals.
"I need a horse," Thor announces to the worker.
"Sorry, we don't sell horses. Just dogs, cats, and birds."
"Then give me one of those, large enough to ride."
"Thor, come on. I'm sorry we bothered you." You yank on his arm and pull him out of the store. "We're going to need something faster than a horse."
You have to get a phone if you're going to try and find a car rental place... if they have one in his tiny town. If not, you're going to need to get an Uber, and you still need a phone to do that. Luckily, Isabel from the diner is willing to let you use her phone to look up directions to the nearest car rental place. Sure, you can use your powers to fly over there, but you haven't been on Earth since the big fight with the Hammer Drones. Do they even remember you? You and Thor are stuck in this dreadful town for another hour when you see Jane's van approach you.
"Do you two still want a lift?"
Thor seems to trust her whereas you're a bit skeptical. Still, you two get inside the van willingly.
"What happened to you not being able to give us a ride?" you ask.
"The government came and took all my shit. They just came and took it. They stole my entire life's work. I figured if I lost everything else, I really don't have anything left to lose. May as well take a chance on you two."
"You're brave to do it," Thor says, "but you're clever. Far more clever than anyone else in this Realm."
"This Realm? Why do you talk like that?"
"You think me strange?"
"Yeah, just a little," she chuckles.
"Good or bad?"
Jane looks between him and the road with a smile on her face.
"I'm not quite sure yet. Who are you two? Really?"
"You'll see soon enough."
If he's going to get his hammer, then she will see something truly amazing when he fights off all the guards there.
"You promised me answers."
Thor looks at her, charmed by her persistence. He remembers the Bifrost's picture on her wall.
"What you seek is a bridge."
"A bridge? Like an Einstein-Rosen Bridge?"
"More like a rainbow bridge," you state.
"God, I hope you two aren't crazy."
"We might be. The jury's still out on that one."
Those fifty miles go by in a flash, and she is pulling up to the site where the hammer is. The Feds really have taken over the entire place. They don't want anyone going over to the hammer that can't be picked up. Everyone who has tried isn't worthy enough to pick it up. It's a mystery worth the FBI's attention.
There are tons of vehicles, trailers, and barricades around the crater. Armed guards man a gate in the razor wire fence that runs fifty yards from the crater's edge, enclosing the complex. Clear, plastic access tubes with junction boxes lead to a translucent cube structure erected in the middle of the crater. Through the glass walls of the base's command trailer, you can see Phil Coulson busy at work. By using binoculars from Jane's van, you can see Mjolnir in the middle of everything.
They have this place under lock and key.
"That isn't a satellite crash. They would have hauled the wreckage away, not built a city around it," Jane says.
Thor removes his jacket and hands it to her, and she takes it in confusion.
"You're gonna need that."
"Why?"
Just then, thunder rumbles from above. It's going to rain but there has been no indication of it since it's nighttime, and the clouds are visible right now. She wonders how Thor knew it was going to rain.
"Stay here. Once I have Mjolnir, I will return what they stole from you." He knows she won't listen to him even though he hopes she will. "Deal?"
"No! Look what's down there! You can't just walk in, grab our stuff, and walk out!"
"We're not going to walk out," you state. "We're going to fly out."
Before Jane can say anything, you and Thor are already running toward the gated barricade. You're at a place that isn't manned with armed guards, and you hook your fingers into the holes of the gate. Your pyrokinesis melts the gate so that you and Thor can sneak through without being spotted.
Two agents are walking your way so you take cover behind one of the vehicles there. They walk past the melted gate before noticing the huge hole. If they call this in, then it will surely result in someone dying. Thor is getting to his hammer no matter what, so you have to minimize the amount of casualties.
You take the one on the right and Thor takes the one on the left. You wrap your arm around his neck and place him in a chokehold while Thor results in physical violence. He simply punches him in the face while you suffocate your man until he passes out.
"One punch is all it takes."
"I'm trying not to leave a bruise. Come on."
It starts to rain—not quite a downpour but more than a sprinkle. You use your hydrokinesis to keep the rain off you while Thor snatches a SHIELD raincoat from one of the guys you took down. You two make your way to the center of the crater when all alarms go off and lights flood the area you're in. You and Thor race to one of the unarmed entrances into the tunnels that lead to the hammer.
Thor runs up the entrance ramp and comes face to face with two guards on the other end of the platform. Without thinking, he body slams the first one to the ground and punches the second one. Both men go down easily. You run after him as he rounds the corner when another guard comes to fight Thor. You're going to let him handle this since he seems to know what he's doing.
He punches the guard into a ladder behind him as hard as he can, and the man tumbles backward onto the ground. Thor spots the glow of Mjolnir in the central cube through the translucent walls of the tunnel. As you two race through the tunnels, you're faced with a guard who thinks he can take both of you on.
Like before, Thor takes care of this all on his own. He punches the guard in the gut when three more agents come around the corner. He grabs the fallen man's legs and torso only to throw him into the three guards as hard as he can. You really wish he wasn't so violent but the sooner he can get to the hammer, the sooner you can get out of here.
After all, this is what Nick Fury wanted to see.
Thor eventually reaches the last tunnel that leads to where his hammer is, but before he can get there, someone punches Thor in the jaw as hard as he can. Thor tumbles to the ground and looks up at the man who was able to take him down. There stands a SHIELD agent who is tall, dark, and very built. He's bigger than Thor, and that's saying something.
"You're big," Thor grins. "I've fought bigger."
Thor and the large agent meet in the middle, and both of them go crashing through the side of the wall. They fall into the dirt that's sopping wet from the rain. In the middle of the area is his hammer but before Thor has a chance to get to it, the large agent grabs his ankle in a last effort to defeat him. Thor immediately drops backward onto the agent, driving his elbow into the agent's chest.
The large agent is down for now, and Thor takes the opportunity to grab his hammer while he still can. You step foot into the open area and notice Phil watching the entire thing with anticipation. Thor wraps his hand around the handle and lifts it with triumph, but it doesn't move. Thor, confused, tries again with two hands but it still doesn't budge. He tips his head back and screams as loud as he can as he yanks on the handle of the hammer.
Still, the hammer doesn't budge.
He falls to his knees before it with the rain pouring down around him. He's failed. He's not worthy to wield it. You walk up to him and place your hand on his shoulder to comfort him, but he doesn't register that you're there. Phil orders agents to come grab you and Thor even though the God doesn't care that they're here.
He's a man who is broken... lost... something you know too much about.
Two agents manhandle Thor into a small room inside the structure while one guard is assigned to you. You go without a fight because you can't leave Thor here alone. You pass by Phil who hasn't stopped looking at you since he noticed you watching him.
"Phil, please. We're not the bad guys. You have to believe us."
He doesn't listen as he places you and Thor into a room with mirrors on all sides of you. They must be a two-way mirror where they can see you but you can't see them. Thor sits in the middle of the room with his head down in defeat. He's depressed that after all this time, he's not worthy enough to pick up his own hammer.
"Phil, let me out of here." You receive no answer from him. "I just want to talk to you. Come on." Still, no response. "I'll break this glass door if you don't talk to me." That gets his attention because he knows you'll do it. The door slides open and you step out of the room to talk to Phil without Thor with you. "Listen, I told Nick about this when I heard about the hammer being found. That hammer is his. He got into a pissing match with his dad. He's not a threat."
"I'll let Fury determine if he's a threat or not. It's starting to look like you might be one as well."
"Come on, you can't be serious."
"Deadly. Now go back to that room."
You don't want to make a scene with so many people around you, and Phil knows you won't do anything. You sigh and walk back into the room with Thor who hasn't looked up once. He has that look about him that tells you he won't listen to anything you have to say, so you don't say anything to him. Phil walks into the room minutes later to question Thor.
"The men you so easily subdued are highly-trained professionals. It's not easy to do what you did. You made us all look like a bunch of mall cops. That's hurtful. In my experience, it takes someone who's received similar training to do what you did to them. Would you like to tell me where you received your training?"
He's barking up the wrong tree. You stand off to the side and lean against the wall silently. Thor doesn't answer him.
"Pakistan? Chechnya? Afghanistan? Then again, you strike me more as the soldier of fortune type. What was it, South Africa?" Still no answer. "Certain groups pay well for a good mercenary." Again, no answer. "Who are you? One way or another, we find out what we want to know. We're good at that."
Phil leaves the room and Thor looks up for the first time since arriving. He gasps in shock when he sees his brother in modern-day clothing. This must be an illusion that Loki is so fond of because no one comes barreling into the room to question how he got here.
"Loki? What are you doing here?"
"I had to come see you two."
"What's happened? Tell me! Is it Jotunheim? Let me explain to Father—"
"Father is dead."
What? No, that can't be true. Loki is known for his deception. Who's to say he isn't lying right now? Thor is buying into everything he is saying while you narrow your eyes in suspicion.
"What?"
"Your banishment plus the threat of a new war was too much for him to bear." The implications of Loki's words dawn on Thor. He's responsible for his Father's fate. Loki looks at you and knows you're onto him. You know him too well to buy his lies. "It was cruel to put the hammer within your reach, knowing you could never lift it. The burden of the throne has fallen to me now."
"Can I come home?" Thor asks, broken.
"The truce with Jotunheim is conditional upon your exile."
"Couldn't we find a way to—"
"Mother has forbidden your return."
Thor lowers his head, beaten. Loki is doing this on purpose. He's always hated that he lived in his brother's shadow.
"This is goodbye, brother. I'm so sorry."
"No, I'm sorry. Loki... Thank you for coming here."
"Farewell, brother."
"Goodbye."
Loki is gone just as Phil walks back into the room.
"Goodbye? I just got back."
Phil is about to get comfortable for a long night of questioning when another agent comes into the room.
"Sir, they've got a visitor."

Why the myth about Steve's PTSD doesn't add up and other inconsistencies
In the last few episodes of H50, PL tried to sell us a mentally broken Steve suffering from PTSD. Only the whole thing came a bit too late. The clip you see is from season 4 and ended up - no, not in the series - but somewhere on the floor of PL's editing room. And why? after Kurtzman and Orci departed, along with their writers, PL took the helm and started turning Steve into a super-soldier. He stylized him into something that wasn't meant to be. Instead of developing the characters, PL began to incorporate more and more hair-raising action sequences into the series and then let Steve fight on the front lines. There was no mention of Steve's mental state, and a lot was explained by PL with: it just happened "offscreen." Yeah, sure. PL can't create a decent character. He can only produce stereotypes and one-dimensional beings. Like Adam. What potential would that character have had had he been turned into Five-0's antagonist? But no. So his role remained diffuse and monotonous. Sometimes even tragicomical.
Back to Steve. When SEAL Team started on CBS, PL also lapsed into SEAL mania. If someone who writes fanfiction were to produce as much garbage as this man did, he would be chased away from every writers' platform in disgrace. PL's Super SEAL also had to rescue his team members from a blazing inferno. Not man by man, no, he flew a helicopter right into the danger zone and lifted a whole cabin out of the burning jungle. If lunacy had a name, it would be PL. While the action became more and more exaggerated and unrealistic, the same happened to the protagonists. After the departure of Daniel Dae Kim and Grace Park, PL completely lost his mind. And please, don't blame the writers for the nonsense that was thrown at you. A series stands and falls with the showrunner. He dictates what he wants and passes it on to his staff.
And so, lovable Steve became a soulless robot who only showed feelings here and there. Danny diminished more and more into a sidekick. McDanno became a ship that drifted anchorless through a stormy sea and threatened to capsize again and again. From season 8, it became a reboot of the reboot. PL tried an ensemble show and failed more than miserably. Often the actors just stood around bored. At least that was the impression. The only highlight was episode 8.10. A feast for all McDanno fans. But even here, the outcome of "who shot Danny" was more than insubstantial.
Wait, there was something about SEALs... Oh, yes. Junior appeared on the scene and became Steve's lapdog. I really wondered when there was going to be an episode where he would fetch sticks for Steve. Luckily we had Eddie for that. And because he thought he was so clever, PL invented the episode speed dating. How many subplots can you squeeze into one episode at the same time? In some episodes, you couldn't even take a look at the bag of potato chips without losing the thread.
The case of the week became the yawn of the week. There were so many loose ends that PL then came up with something called retconning. That's what you do when you're no longer satisfied with what was once established in the series years ago, or it no longer fits. But PL went one step further and did the same with the characters. The more the series was dragged out, the more the characters deteriorated and became OOC. It means, often, they were not recognizable at all. And that's where we come to Steve. Because PL, in his desperation, didn't know what else he could do to Steve, and so he killed Joe White. He did it in such a cheesy way with a fake sunset that it made you sick.
Of course, one episode later, there had to be another gig of PL's favorite Barbie. He stuck a fake beard on poor Steve/Alex, so he couldn't even hug Danny/Scott properly. The episode also raised more questions than it answered any. And Steve? He still didn't suffer from PTSD, even though he had now lost Joe White and a fellow SEAL. Everyone is dropping like flies, except for Steve, who is standing like a rock. No matter what. He doesn't need in-depth talks with Danny, nor psychological care, nor any sleeping pills. No, he's doing great. He also opens a restaurant with Danny because apparently, the carguments are already getting on PL's nerves. Unfortunately, this plot device leads into nirvana. The idea was nice, but nobody thought it through to the end. And the merry-go-round continues. Until we get to season 10, where it gets even more absurd. Now PL is almost bombarding us with McDanno episodes, or at least it should seem that way. Oh well, he's already planning for season 11, so a new character has to come on board quickly. While in the beginning, Steve's mother, Doris, dies.
Alex was allowed to take on the subject. Of course, only under the strict eyes of PL. He then nullifies Alex's idea that Steve kills his mother. Because a good soldier and Super SEAL won't do that. Little does PL know. THAT could have been the opening of a PTSD scenario for Steve. However, apart from that, this episode would have had any potential for a multi-arc. Just imagine Steve chasing his mother across multiple episodes. Again, PL stepped in and butchered Alex's episode. You can really feel sorry for the guy. PL at his best or worse? He just can't help it. And then, on the very last meters of the series, he brings someone new, who is allowed to cruise around with Steve most of the time. Because Danny was kidnapped by Wo Fat's widow, PL also invented quite late to have some villain at his disposal. This wannabe mastermind must really have been living under a rock somewhere if she wasn't even mentioned by her husband or appeared earlier.
Because towards the end, PL obviously ran out not only of steam but also of ideas, everything culminated in a wildly illogical scenario. Steve has to live through a dramatic day with Eddie, who stands as a metaphor for Steve (as I said, PTSD was never a thing for Super SEAL), Danny bangs his brains out in a ladies' room with a complete stranger, who dies shortly after that in an accident with Danny's rental car. Apparently, there was no budget to turn the Camaro into scrap metal. Danny then also goes home alone, ignoring the incoming emergency vehicles. Everything remains open at the end of the episode. While Steve expresses his gratitude to Tani and Quinn and says, he would be just as lost as poor Eddie without the dog and all of them. The strange thing is that you never notice anything until that sentence. A few forced dialogues are supposed to make the drama visible, but they all happen way too late or are so poorly written that you miss them.
PL had decided early on to make Steve a Teflon hero. That also means he didn't need to put much substance into the character. Which you can clearly see if you compare the first three seasons to the rest of the series. But towards the end, PL wanted to turn the tide and forcefully rewrote Steve's past. There is a huge difference if you compare Steve from seasons 1 to 3 with Steve from season 10. It is only a sparse remnant of what made this character so great. This change in Steve's personality also affects his relationship with Danny. The witty, affectionate banter degenerates into a snappy, humorless bitch-fest that takes all the joy out of it.
The final two episodes could have been written for any other crime show. As mentioned, we have Cole, who even gets a book'em Cole from Steve, which can only be described as out of line. And it begs the question, was that what Lenkov originally had in mind? Danny out of the show and Cole in? Was the last episode, which mainly featured McCole, something of a test run? Did all the McDanno moments happen only to tear the two apart eventually? Was the real final scene the one where Steve and Catherine take Danny's coffin back to Jersey? Was Danny not supposed to survive? Was that the real reason Steve wanted to get out of Hawaii because he wanted to pay his respects to Danny? And would he really have returned to Hawaii later? Or would he have turned his back on Hawaii? To me, this ending is more plausible than what PL served us. Then, Steve handed over his credentials to Cole instead of Danny, his second in command. Honestly, you can't make the end of a series any more sloppy and dumber than that. And I won't even lose a word about the last 1:30 minutes because I think everything has already been said.
No PL, mission absolutely not accomplished. You created Teflon-Steve. You never wanted him to show any weakness. You turned him into a superhuman who can survive anything. Only to pull the rug out from under him on the last few meters to the finish line and spit on his legacy. How can you dismantle such a great series and its characters like you did? How much do you have to hate something to do that? In the final interviews, the showrunner didn't exactly cover himself in glory either. Everyone who grew up with the series from day one knows that its end was wrong on all the possible levels and that the showrunner is solely to blame for that. It takes a fair amount of egoism and carelessness to drive 10 years at full throttle against the wall. Not many people can do that. Whether you can be proud of that, however, I doubt.
My respect if you have made it this far. Each of you gets 10 extra brownie points for it.

Hickman’s X-Men One Year In: Part 2: The Dawn of X
Tumblr media
And we’re onto part 2. Since it took me a while to talk about Hickman’s Series outside of Giant-Size and the setup here, that’s in part one if your curious, I split this little retrospective into two parts, with this part here talking about the rest of the books. This isn’t to say they aren’t great, many of them are, it was just easier to do this as a two parter so with HIckman himself out of the way how did his hand picked batch of talented writers handle the lofty status quo he set up?Find out under the cut. Pax Krakoa baby.
Tumblr media
Mauraders Okay just to get this out of the way this is my second faviorite x-book running, after X-Men itself and it often equals it and far and away the best tile of the run and restored my faith in Gerry Duggan.  Duggan is not a bad writer and I blame the messy finish of his otherwise awesome guardians run with infnity wars on marvel trying to cram other characters into it and then a weird mash up idea that while cool, kept the guardians out of their own damn event and from confrting a now mad gamora, but that and deadpool made me forget the guy is a good writer and can do great things. Maruaders however won me back to him with intrest.  A unique concept, the x-men as pirates helping ferry goods to krakoan allied states and ferry trapped mutants from hostile ones, is fucking awesome. The only thing missing is nightcrawler and it’s clear hickman has other plans, though I still feel he shoudl’ve been on the boat as he has both the relation to kitty pryde and pirate pedgree that fit in perfectly.  Speaking of kitty after years of writers misusing her due to having a crush on her as a kid and shoving her into half baked romances with peter quill and her ex peter rasptuin, the latter failing so badly that marvel pulled the plug on their wedding because fans clearly didn’t want it, and battling my own reluctance ot see her front and center again, Duggan makes good use of her again: Kitty is given the unique hook of the portals not working for her and no one, even her old friend Doug after he gets back, being able to figure out WHY. Though I do hope Doug does show up here and explain it more, as him being kitty’s best friend once is rarely brought up since he got back and it’s silly it hasn’t been. But rather than take this on the chin Kitty strikes up a crew consisting of big sister Storm, first class graduate x-man, badass gay and kitty’s friend and ex iceman, bishop who reluctantly joins as her bishop more on that in a second and the best of them by a mile: Pyro. The original, finally brought back and given some intresting backstory: he was the first mutant brought back and felt good about it..t ill he realized that despite sacrificing himself to save a, if your familiar with the various cartoons this will be baffling but trust me, reformed senator kelly as Pyro himself was dying from the legacy virus, only to find out they did him first because they considered him expendable basically and naturally was upset over that, drunk a bunch of the liquor kitty smuggled in, for logan naturally, and passed out and then joined in on the rescue mission that formed the team because why not and stayed because it was a great offer.  Speaking of offers with a new purpose, Kitty accepted her old enemy Emma Frost’s offer to be red queen, which includes a seat on krakoa’s council and was basically emma’s way of saying fuck you to her old cohort who she was forced to bring back on to handle the seedier side of Krakoa’s dealings via his underworld connections, sebastian shaw. Emma is the fincical  backbone of krakoa, having the shipping connections to get the flowers in and out and now having kitty to handle the stuff she can’t and do some of the shipping, as well as again tell Sebastian, who naturally wants both gone and is pissy at Emma being so far ahead of him, wants gone. And while he’s seemingly succeded with kitty I not only have every expectation that while ressuection is failing to work on her she’ll be back, but that trying to murder one of the most beloved x-men whose consdiered family to among others three of krakoa’s captains, bishop after this series, four of their council, five if you include Doug whose best friends with both his left arm which is also a deadly space robot and the very place they live on. The only reason he’s not going to die 80 times in increasingily horrifying ways is because the five can’t take on that kind of workload and one murderous ass beating from half of krakoa and krakoa itself is close enough.
Emma is easily one of the books best parts, being written back as she should: An anti hero who while quick with a cutting quip, truly cares for her charges, and mutantkind as a whole and has grown from the monster she started as or even the kind of person who’d use a therapy session from a desperate man having issues opening up emotionally after apocalypse used his body as a rental car to convince him to fuck her.  And yes that’s how things started with Scott and Emma and yes it’s really fucked up and yes the story treats it as such, though I still wish Scott would get actual therapy, but as Linkara recently pointed out in his House of M Review the Marvel and DC universes weirdly lack therapists for the most part and thus it was left on my mind the last two weeks.. and yes I know DC tried but when your final product at trying to serious tackle mental health is heroes in crisis.. I award you no points and god have mercy on your soul.  But while Emma and Kitty get the lions share of the focus the rest of the group is enjoyable, well done and intresting, if not given many arcs to themselves, but still have enough character moments to counterballance that. The standout of the rest of the crew is easily Pyro, taken from “why is he still dead despite being super popular and used in a heavy role in X2 that’s garnered fans of that version to this day and bafflement he became a foot note in the next movie and used in every adaptation” to fun side character with a skull on his face and a love of booze and setting things on fire. He’s finally given the respect he deserves sorta and while I hope more is delved into his ressurection angst, he’s a ton of fun and it again makes me wonder why it took 20+ years to bring him back, but i’m glad the right person did it. The rest of the crew are fun with Bishop being another standout.  That being said part of the reason there isn’t a lot of focus is simply because in additoin to our brave crew the book is juggling a LOT of characters.. the morlocks and calisto, both given a proper treatment after wya too long, jumbo carnation a minor character from morrisons run who was introduced in the same issue he died is emma’s designer, shinobi shaw and christian frost, the latter I question why a main relative of one of marvel’s a-list mutants who was one of marvel’s earlier gay characters hasn’t been used in a big way till now but no time like the present, Sebastian and the people he shares his big bad spot with Homines Verde aka those tweens who ran the hellfire club during jason aaron’s run because the man is nuts and who I only seemd to liked, brillinatly revamped as a racist replacemnt for the hellfire club and so far a clever threat. The book is just stuffed iwth good characters, beautiful art, and a great tone that combines spectacular humor with really good story and worldbuilding. It’s also a nice contrast to hickman’s stuff: don’t get me wrong I love hickman’s writing style but it’s nice to have something JUST as good.. but with a cheerier tone and less weariness to it, while still not lacking weight. I can’t wait to see where this goes.. it’s a pirates life for me.
Tumblr media
Excalibur:  Like most of the dawn of X-Line outside of fallen angels, more on that in a minute and even then that had an intresting new directoin for betsy braddock, I was pumped for this one. A team I loved: While I struggled to find a run I loved with Claremont’s run having Brian Braddock be a raging dick whose terrible to his girlfriend and gets away with cheating on her and Claremont not really bothering to explain Saturnyne or other characters and their history with Brian well to us yanks who never had the chance to read those tales.. though why stories by alan moore and chris claremont haven’t been republished properly or in epic collections is beyond me. Warren Ellis, who I now loathe for being a scheming weasel who treated women like garbage, had a decent run with plenty of warlock, in a weird phase where he thought he was doug, Moira and Wolfsbane stuff I loved.. but also had 30-40 something pete wisdom shacking up with 18 year old at most kitty pryde, with Pete at the time being basically Warren Ellis badass self insert character, and given recent revelations i’m pretty sure he damn well knew kitty was just 18 and even if he didn’t having his own fanfic character deflower her is just all kinds of EWWWWWW. He also had Colossus, fresh of being a villian for a while for understandable reasons, nearly beat pete into a coma in a jealous rage over the ex.. the ex he dated while she was still a minor, and left because HE , and editorial, was uncomfortable with it for damn obvious reasons. I can see why fans like to see her as bisexual and pair her with Illiayna.. I mean why the fuck not? They have better chemistry than most of he hetrosexual intrests and are paried because of that and not because the writer wanted to make out iwth kitty as a teenager and forgot “oh yeah she’s fictional and i’m 40!”  Christ thank god for Gerry Duggan.  But yeah moving on from that I was still pumped as a magical x-men book with Besty Braddock now captain freaking britan, and apocalypse on the roster. And rictor and jubille? nad rouge and gambit I guess.. I don’t knokw if they fit but whatever. Sign me up. The actual result is a mixed back. I do like Tini Howard’s work here to a point: Betsy gets good character stuff and theres actually good tension from the fact that the new captain britan is no longer primarily a british ctizen, and the book brought back a character I felt marvel needed to do more with: Jamie. if you don’t know, Jamie is betsy and brian’s, her brother and the former captain britian, older brother who went insane due to his powers and thus just goes around in his underwear convinced reality isn’t real and he can do what he wants and the tension with Jamie refusing to have anything to do with his brother for no good reason is really good. Rictor and Apocalypse are likewise good sensable additons: Rictor turns out to be a natural to being a druid which is a nice twist and makes sense given when he lost his powers the biggest issue with that was loosing touch with earth after having a connection to it be a vital part of him for years. Apocalypse as an ominus chess master slowly securing magic for mutantkind with some goal we’re about to get answers to is really investing and adds a layer to his character, that much like doctor doom he’s as much sorecer as he is scinetest and given the guy’s immortal, it dosen’t feel like it was pulled out of nowhere.  The problem is the other half of the cast.. dosen’t really work. I fucking love Jubilee, a faviroite of mine as an xman despite not being a huge 90′s x-men cartoon fan, just feels kinda shoe horned in. Her son becomes a dragon and she worries about him constantly, but her worrying about her son possibly not being a mutant on mutant land could be done in any other x-book, and fraknly I feel her personality would fit better with the maruaders, and it’d be intresting to see kitty and her on the same team since both really haven’t interacted. Here she just feels like “well tini wanted jubilee and no one else did soooo I made her son a dragon to justify getting her”. I feel more could be done and hope Tini has better plans for her. Rouge is one of my faviorte x-men and All New X Factor and Kelly Thompsons work with him and Rouge made me like Gambit again, and I DO love their marriage and it was a way better idea than the one Guggenhiem had planned.. but while the idea of Rouge being reborn is intresting and all, she still dosen’t really get to do much and like Jubilee just feels weirldy out of place while Remy has that plus he’s annoying, as while he’s the only one rightfully supscious of apocalypse he also won’t shut the fuck up about it for five minutes. Ig et where he’s coming from  but it dosen’t make him less annoying. These aren’t bad characters, but sof ar they just feel weirdly out of place in a magic based book and unlike Rictor tini hasn’t made any of htem but Rouge feel in place.
That being said I could ignore that more.. but the villians are also week. So far at least, as the return of Satyurne has given the book it’s first good antagonist.. but what I feel drags the book down the most from it’s potential is the bad guys; Morgan Le Fay is the first antaognist, being mad at apocalypse’s intrusions and corrputing Brian.. but her motives are just so boring: She wants power and to rule, she hates mutants... while “hates mutants” is a qualifier for every other antagonist so far, she just feels bland.. Tini just dosen’t make her feel like a good antagonist and it’s a shame as mutant hater or not she’s something DIFFRENT from the throngs of mutant hating conspiracies, mostly from russia in the other books... she’s just so bland it dosen’t work. And after her is Cullen Bloodstone who as far as I can tell is written out of character.. haven’t read his book but I had both a friend confirm it and having read his marvel wiki entry, it just seems like an odd turn to have him be a racist asshole. But even with all my problems and underwhelm here.. I still WANT the book to get from okay to amazing, and feel it genuinely has the potetial. I’ve seen books sharply improve after a rough first arc, Duggan himself showed me that with his Guardians run. Sometimes it just takes time for something to truly blossom and I have a feeling even with my issues, with x of swords coming up howard’s going to flip it all on it’s head and leave me standing there gasping like a moron. I have hope for that. And if nothing else the book is at least UNIQUE. And not in a trainwreck way: by giving mutants a piece of the magic pie and having them tackle far weirder threats, it’s at least doing something new and it probably lands for other people if not me, and if nothing else it does brian 80 times better than the claremont run did. not a high bar but I do like the character and it’s nice to see him take such an intresting path, and the same goes for Betsy. Tini’s still got magic to do, and I have a feeling it’s going to take me by storm very soon.

Fallen Angels: Now for the other half of the coin as it were. Some fans weren’t happy about Betsy getting her old body back, and yes Psylocke wasn’t orignally asian but a white british woman bodyswapped iwth a japanese assasian and yes that’s as ludicrious and unteitonally offensive as it sounds, because horrible implications of said Body Swap or not, Psylocke was one of the few asian superheros of note. So to compromise , Hickman and co decided to split the diffrence: Betsy would come back and get a rank up to captain britan, while Kwannon, said assasian, would take over as Psylocke. Hence Excalibur above and fallen angels here and I was excited about it. The Body Swap thing went on a decade too long and this way fans got the character they knew as Psylocke in another book while the face they recognized would finally get some fleshing out. I was excited about that and while probably the least excited about this book of the intitial 5, it did have an intresting lead, two characters I did like (Kid Cable I grant was only under hickman who turned him from that brat version of cable who killed the one I really love to a good character in his own right), and an intresting antagonist in a sentient machine.  In practice it was okay. The best I can say is that writer Brian Hill DOES do a great job taking a mostly minor x-character and really fleshing her out and making her engaging and Kwannon’s quest to save her daughter is really compelling.. but the premise of those who don’t fit with krakoa dosen’t work with the roster given. Laura Kinney is not only sticking with the x-23 name after dropping the wolverine mantle for no reason previously, something Hickman fixed as soon as he realized how fans felt for her apperance in the main book, while Cable feels nothing like the far more fun version from Hickman’s X-Men and later Duggan’s Cable. Add in Husk and Bling who do deserve to be on a team but feel out of place here, and it just.. is okay. The book has an intresting angagonist and a great lead, but just dosen’t work as a team book and would’ve been better off being JUST about kwannon herself, who is far and away the best part about the book and i’m glad she got fleshed out. Not TERRIBLE but nothing special and it’s a shame given the antagonist, whose name I can’t even remember at this point, is intresting and ties into mutantkind’s greatest enmies being man and machine accoridng to house and powers.. basically a decent concep twith a flawed execution. Maybe hill’ sbatman and hte outisders run is better. I need to get on that. That being said the premise and idea is so far being done well in Hellions which we’ll get to, even if I’m being cautious really getting into the book with Zeb Wells track record. But more on that in a bit.

X-Force: Time to make noise, bad guys leave us no choice.. you know the rest. But yeah X-force. The concept here grabbed me, having X-Force rather than just be the black ops squad but be literal black ops for krakoa, was really great and fit the brave new world.. what worried me was the writer, Benjamin Percy. Now a lot of x-fans probably knew him from the much beloved “Wolverine: The Long Night” podcast, which i’ve heard is utterly fantastic as is it’s followup.. but I hadn’t heard it, and had only heard of Percy from DC comics where under his belt was an okay teen titans run and a not very good and politcally unsubtle green arrow book. And i’m not against politics in comics it just wasn’t done at all well there and the “oliver queen looses hif ourture due to a shadowy conspiracy thing” was already done better by jeff lemire. So yeah I was going to give this a chance but figured like those books it’d start strong and then peter out.  I. Was. Wronnnnggg. X-Force is easily one of the best of the dawn of x and uses said premise well. It started a bit roughly, mostly becasue the first arc idnd’t make clear x-force didn’t exist yet but was a great origin story: a squad of military commandos working for a shadowy consirtum who become x-force’s big bad, plunge onto Krakoa and massacre a bunch of mutantas and assinate charles xavier. He comes back, though it’s trickier for obvious reasons, but it’s clear from this, and from wolverine and kid omega’s sucessful investigation and finding domino, that this can’t go on and thus X-Forces is formed; The intellegence and black ops arm of Krakoa and the one arm of it’s goverment exempt from the ‘dont’ kill humans rule”. What followed was nearly a years worth of fast paced adventures with good character stuff: Wolverine is in his element, kid omega, while I had my doubts due to quinten being way overused , turned out to be a perfect choice basically being a more compitent teenage sterling archer, cocky and loving this but also really good at his job, while Domino gets a great arc dealing with her trauma over her mutalation and having some of her power stolen by the shadowy masked dickheads while Colossus deals with his trauma over what went down when he rescued some Russian mutants, with the book slowly building up new threats and towards a showdown with Russia, something that’s also been built up by conflicts in Wolverine and Mauraders, which again makes the world of x feel more like an actual world instead a bunch of comics in one cast herd.  Jean Grey is good for intellegence, though by now seems to have noped out as she couldn’t take the toll, it’s not for everyone and most notably after 5 or 6 years of being treated worse and worse and written worse and worse and becoming a bigger and bigger piece of shit Beast is FINALLY put in the right spot: his darker turns aren’t ignored but he’s back to being an actually intellegent hero as X-force’s director, still a bit greasy but now for good reason and without a god complex or some such bullshit and with a tiny bit of his humor back. Not much else to say really, X-Force is well paced, enjoyable and gritty, getting the spirit of the team at it’s best down right while doing something fresh with it.

New Mutants (Ed Brisson) Last one, New Mutants is the odd duck of the dawn of x line in terms of how it was launched. Fallen Angels ended up being a mini series both due  to Hill being busy and it’s cast being needed elsewhere but will presmibly get a follow up later, but it’s not the ONLY mini series in the line with Fantastic four/x-men, the giant sized one shots and now Empyre: X-Men all debuting in wave 2. New Mutants however is the first book to change writers and said writer STARTED in the middle of hickman’s run, partly due to scheduling delays but even before that it was partly by design and those issues haven’t been collected yet, with hickman’s short run being collected first. So you have a run that builds off what Hickman started but with it’s own ideas that started insidei t and suprisingly it .. really works.  While I do think there are better books in the line Brisson’s new mutants is enjoyable, combining humor and character work. New Mutants focuses on the sextant, which was first brought up in hickman’s run, the series of habitats for younger mutants on krakoa that the new mutants look out for, and while the original new mutants are in space, Armor decides to try and bring some old friends in to join in paradise with the help of Glob Herman, that big pink guy with a visable skeleton and eyes, and Maxine and Manon, who in the tradition of layla miller were created for an event and not great htere but turned out amazing under the right writer.. who I think also wrote that event but whatever, a pair of empaths and telepaths who have trouble grasping the right ethics for using their powers.  The four go to get one of my faviorite x-men back: BEAK! I missed him even if he’s weirdly suddenly repowered. Beak and his wife Angel only haven’t joiend in with their kids because his dad’s sick, and things soon escalate when a bunch of criminals try holding them all hostage and it’s up to boom boom, bored since everyone left her alone, to save the day! After that we deal with Magik rangling them and the team’s new mission statment: not wanting ot mess up again like she did with beak, who did join them but not without loosing his dad and then his memory of his dad thanks to the twins misguided efforts, Armor still wants to try welcoming new mutants in with the vetrans help, and thus we have our puprose: focusing both on how these younger mutant 20 somethigns of various ages from early to late work together to make a better world nad help their own get back to this world. it’s intresting.. I’m not in love with it like mauraders or x-force, but it’s still pretty good and their first big foe so far, DoX, a blog that well.. doxes mutants that haven’t arrived yet, seems to be intresting. Not much to say just pretty good and and better at mixing comedy and character stuff, and getting the cast right. Ed Brisson had already proven himself on old man logan, but this cements him as one of the hottest new x-writers around and i’m glad he was given a book here. He’s also succeded in making me actually like Glob Herman so that’s a plus.

Fantastic Four/X-Men The first title of wave 2 and easily one of the best, right up there with mauraders nad probably JUSST behind it and ONLY because i’ts a mini series, giving the X-Men their first real step into the rest of hte marvel universe. Sure the 4 had cameoed in the first issue and there’s been mentions of krakoa in other books and one off issues but mostly Krakoa really hadn’t impacted anything.. but that first issue also set things up with Scott’s conversation with Sue Richards

Yeah and in case those who haven’t been aware of what’s going on with the FF lately and either remember franklin as a 6-11 year old or wondered why the hell he was suddenly a teen when they read this crossover, it’s actually simple; At the end of secret wars the Richards family was put on a bus, also so marvel could shove the ff as a proper team out the door due to the whole fox rights thing, and when Dan Slott had brought them back.. and cleverly had more time pass for the richards than for the 616 proper, so he could age Franklin up to his late teens and Valeria up to her early ones, allowing the richards children to actually age since Franklin’s age always had to stay vauge due to marvel’s vage and wobbly time scale. This way they get both consitant ages and more agency.  But the return also came with a price as Franklin, who if you didn’t know is so powerful he can create whole universe and shape the sturcture of the universe, had his powers break saving his family, and thus since he came back, he’s onlyg got so much of them left in the tank before they run out entirely, and it’s been an issue for him in Slott’s run as he worries about being the normal human in a fantastic family and comes to a head here, though rather than Hickman himself, who as mentioned last time has a marvelous track record with the family or FF series writer dan slott Hickman choose a wild card for this, though had both Hickman and Slott’s permission to do whatever he wanted: Chip Zdarsky, a modern marvel for marvel who’d writtne the four in marvel two in one but for some reason didn’t get the main book and this book makes me hope whenever Dan Slott bows out he gets his turn and while this is his first x-men work, Zdarsky proves he’s just as good here as is in most of his work on Howard the Duck, Jughead and Star Lord.. a weird selection I know but all classics.
With this power outage, Franklin is worried his dad is, at least subconciously, not really trying to help him and to make matters worse teh x-men show up to offer their help.. and Franklin his birthright. The arguments made by both sides are great and I will be covering the series in full soon but in a nutshell the four dont’ want to give up their son/nephew, Reed dosen’t trust Xavier and feels he wants to use his son’s powers while the x-men feel it’s franlin’s choice and he’s old enough to make it, he belongs with them and he’ll be safer there. It also works because Franklin understandably isn’t swayed by either as neither is reallyt alking to him more at him, especially his parents .. and only tries the gate when Kitty Pryde, the two  bonded back in the 80s and a young franklin stopped her from comitting suicide long story but really moving, is the only one to tell him it’s his choice. This dosen’t go quite well though since Reed Richards, father of the year, decided to make a device to mask his son’s mutant gene and no one, including his own family, is happy about htis.  Naturally Franklin, with Val’s help, runs away.. and then as if it couldn’t get worse DOOM shows up wanting to help so now it’s a three way dance between them for hte fate of franklin. The series has gorgeous art form the dodsons a really damn compelling story and great setup for further stories for both lines and feels like the best of both franchises. It’s the x-men’s first huge impact on the rest of the marvel universe,a nd it feels like it with the ending showing that and showing this might not be the last time both sides crossover. It’s everything you could want from a crossover and i’m only being so brief because I want to review it soon as a huge fan of both groups. Easily one of the best x-men stories of the line and one of the best stories for both groups period.

Wolverine:  We’re onto the final two, and Percy’s second book and the first solo.. and it’s logan again! Makes sense though: Wolverine only just came back from the dead, and while both is daughter and alternate future self carried the woverline banner for him, the original hasn’t gotten his own ongoing in some time. And so far.. it’s pretty good> the first issues a bit messy due to it’s lenght, but overall the book is intresting and has Logan graple with being the best at waht he does and if he can be better or if he deserves paradise while also delivering a compelling solo mission teaming Wolverine up with a federal agent who resents mutants. it also does some good world building, explaning why Krakoan drugs have things like wait lists (they want to control production closely both to avoid having the flower taken away and for quality control), and expanding the russia subplot while using Dracula of all people as a major antagonist, which is clever especailly since this isn’t his first rodeo with the x-men. Just a fun book wiht loads of promise.
Tumblr media
Hellions: NOt much to say here as it’s hard to judge after two issues, buti f nothing else this series brought back the delightfully batshit Nanny, who just with last weeks issue offered to nurse Greycrow (who had his name changed from scalphunter because of course marvel did why wouldn’t they) and falling down. It combines humor with an odd but well thought out cast and makes Alex Summers intresting without making everyone else assholes, a hard but earned feet. If it continues to be good.. I dunno, especially since i haven’t been impressed by any of zeb wells other works especially his new mutants run, good god that one’s am ess, but so far he’s winning me over with a clever concept and roster full of deep cuts.  Final Thoughts:  I won’t be covering Empyre: X_men, though I did enjoy it and i’l save that one for next time. For now this has been a hell of a year of x-men comics, with even the weaker books still having something intresting and none being outright terribule and only one had a bad grasp on some of it’s cast and for a line this big and expansive, that’s a gold medal achivment. After YEARS of stasis the x-men have finally risen again better, bolder and stranger than ever. IS every book A+ gold star etc etc, no, but what’s important.. is that it’s all DECENT. There’s enough standout books to make it work but as i’ve made clear what isn’t the best of the best is still good or decent. There’s nothing bad, no one phoning it in or not giving an effort, everyone is trying thier hardest and succeding on SOME level even if not completely and that.. that’s truly amazing and I look forward to more of it as this line continues. Pax Krakoa and hopefully i’ll see you again.

A/N: I’m not sure if taking a break helped my writing at all—it still felt like pulling teeth to get any words on the page, but I did put them there, so… here? Sorry.
January, 1990 - Stanford
She was down to the wire now, and the pressure was on. Surrounded by books, diagrams, and piles of notes in a cocoon of preparation for her second licensing exam, Dana had barely made time to eat for weeks. Studying was both necessary and the only thing keeping her mind off of the deep, lonely ache inside her. In bed at night, she oscillated between feeling crushed by the weight of the uncertain future, which seemed to press her down into the mattress… and the light fluttering of hope, the pulse of joy and desire when she thought of Fox Mulder. She imagined him as he’d been on that last morning, touching her face, his eyes searching hers, the solid feel of his hips between her knees. Her mind was a storm of medical facts and the interrupting image of his face in her memory, lowering to touch his lips to hers as he made love to her on her sister’s guest bed.
Then, inevitably, she would think of the residencies she might be offered in St. Louis or Albany. She thought of the fact that long-distance relationships rarely worked out, in the end. She thought of Fox getting tired of late-night phone calls, and of all the other women who were right there in D.C. already. She thought of Daniel, who had found her twice now at the hospital, pulled her into an alcove, and dropped less than subtle hints that he thought she should stay with him.
(“You’re a brilliant doctor, Dana. Just imagine what it could be like, the two of us.”)
She’d been firm, but he’d dogged her about why, and she couldn’t answer. She thought of his teenage daughter, of his wife who’d done nothing to deserve this, of the sharp jealousy she’d heard in his voice the day she’d broken things off. (“Is there someone else?”)
“Damnit,” Dana mumbled when she caught a mistake in her work. She erased, blew away the pink-gray shavings, scribbled another string of names and symbols. She appreciated the clarity of the answers on these tests: there was right and wrong, true and false. Nothing like the foggy, dark path toward her future, which she could not see.
It was past four in the afternoon when the phone rang—she’d been hovering over her coffee table working on her notes the whole day, and the low-hanging sun through the kitchen window surprised her with the hour.
“Hello?” She answered.
“Ah, there you are.” Fox’s voice, like a cool breeze cutting through humid air, made her smile. “I thought maybe I’d imagined you.”
“I’m here,” she said, nearly breathless with the pulses of joy the sound of him brought her. “And you? Are you real?”
“I’m real. Lonely, but real. You okay?”
She hesitated a moment. “Yes. Yeah. I’m fine.”
“Hmm.”
“What about you? How’s that strange case you’re working on?”
“It’s fascinating. I wish I could get your opinion on some of these medical files, but I’m not sure how this other agent would feel about outside opinions. She’s kind of territorial about her work.”
“Oh.” Dana turned that sentence around in her mind several times. Territorial. She. “But it’s, um, it’s going well? Your new, ah… arrangement?”
“Yeah. It’s good. I can’t wait until I can tell you more about it. Speaking of which, I may not be able to call for a few days. We’ll be out in the field. Out of town, I mean, for the case.”
Dana swallowed and sat down on her kitchen chair. “Oh,” she said again. “Where will you be?”
“Ohio. Near Columbus.” There was another pause where she could hear him thinking, even as the image of him on the road with this other woman elbowed its way into her mind: on a plane, in a rental car, face to face over a table at some diner in some small town, in a motel room… “Dana,” his voice was a gentle interruption. “Are you really okay?”
She wanted to tell him that she was fine. It was silly, she thought: there was nothing to be done right now, and worrying could only make things worse. But the soft tug of his voice, the concern at its edges, made her want to confess. “I’m so scared,” she whispered.
He was quiet a moment. His voice, when it came across the line, was so soft she barely heard it. “Scared about what, Dana? About us?”
She squeezed the phone cord, wrapped its loops so tight around her index finger that her skin turned red. “About the future,” she said. “And yes. About us. I mean, is there an us? What will happen if I get placed in Reno or Boston? Won’t you get tired of this?”
She heard his deep breath over the line, heard the rustle of him changing positions. “Are you tired of it?”
“No!” She said, perhaps too quickly. “No. But you have another kind of life. You must want something more than whatever this is.”
“Dana, what I do… It takes a lot out of me. You haven’t seen that part of it yet, but it’s hard. I’m a mess most of the time. And Sam, she’s pretty good at pulling me out of it, but the thing is…“ he took another deep breath. “Since I met you, you’re the only thing that makes it better. Remembering you. Thinking of you. So no. I’m not going to get tired of it. Even if I only see you twice a year, I’m not going to get tired of it.”
Dana’s face was hot—she could feel its flush. Her heart hurt. “Really?”
“Yeah, really,” he said. “So if you want there to be an us, there’s an us. At least until you get tired of me.”
She imagined him broken after a case, unshaven and rumpled with those sad eyes looking at her. She imagined how she would hold him, kiss his eyelids, let him cry if he needed to. She imagined a lab where she might work, where he’d call her in the middle of the day, excited to tell her some impossible thing. She imagined a world where they fit together like this—complimentary. Interlocking. Seamless.
“I do,” she said. “Want it, I mean. I think—yes. I want it very much.” Her flush of affection was so surprising and strong, she’d almost said she thought she loved him. Too soon, she thought. I can’t possibly. But somewhere inside her, she knew that she did.
“That’s good. Then we’re an us. And the next time I see you, I’m going to show you what a good us we are. With wine and maybe some dancing and a kiss so long and slow you’ll forget your own name.”
“Oh god,” she said, glad she was sitting down.
“Yeah,” he said. “With some of that too.”
Then she was laughing and missing him so hard she felt it in her bones.
January, 1990 - Ohio
“Agent Mulder, tell me more about yourself. Why did you join the FBI?”
Agent Fowley drove the rental across a flat suburbia. They were outside of Columbus, now, heading to the site of three unexplained deaths. Fox fidgeted with the map in the passenger seat, aware of his new partner’s curious energy.
“I was recruited out of my PhD program,” he said. “I showed an aptitude for behavioral science, and I enjoy the work. Profiling, I mean. It’s like puzzles, only when you get it right, you save people’s lives.”
She nodded, with a half-smile that said she understood. “No power fantasies, then? No grand heroic ambitions?”
He smirked. “No.”
“That’s good,” she said. “I’ve known enough men in the Bureau like that. Not married?”
He cleared his throat. “Ah, no. Not married.”
“Hmm. Me neither.”
He watched her drive, svelte in her black suit and carefully adorned with understated but expensive jewelry. She carried herself well, shot daggers with her looks when she felt disrespected (a fact he’d learned while visiting the Arlington PD with her last week), and she missed nothing in the case reports. She was intimidating as hell, but she seemed kind at the same time. Kind in the eyes, and in the way she angled herself to listen.
Unless that was flirting. God, he was bad at this. As clever as he was at profiling, Fox had always had a terrible time discerning for sure if a woman was flirting with him or just being nice. With Dana it had been different, a kind of immediate magnetism that made every glance and word and gesture feel charged. It hadn’t been deliberate or game-like at all. He thought of Dana’s frank curiosity, her sharp confidence in her work that softened into subtle apprehension about him—about them. Because they were a them now. She was maybe even sort of his, and this realization warmed a place low in his abdomen. He could flirt freely with Dana just by being himself. But he would need to be careful around this other woman.
Hard-frozen and empty soybean fields appeared around them, gray and frostbitten, as they passed beyond suburbia. The fields then gave way to strip malls that dotted the lazy, rolling hills outside their small-town destination. He and Agent Fowley dropped their things in two adjoining motel rooms, then met at the diner across the street to go over their case notes. She was all business, strategizing the order of their interviews and examinations—except when she ordered a slice of pie with a guilty smile. “Just this once,” she said, offering, for the first time, a hesitant vulnerability. She offered some of the pie as well, but he declined.
Later, in a farmer’s small kitchen, she wielded questions like knives. while he collected careful observations. They worked well together, a harmony between studious and persistent. By ten, they were back at the motel with more interviews planned for tomorrow. “You were good out there today,” she told him. “Insightful. I wouldn’t have picked up on that thing with the pen.”
He shrugged. “I’m sure you’d have figured it out.”
Her eyes lingered, perhaps just a little too long as she fiddled with the key to her room. “Well,” she said, and now her voice was husky, just a tad playful. “Good night.”
He swallowed hard and wasted no time with his own key. “G’night,” he said.
In his room, he double checked that the adjoining door was locked and dropped onto his bed, face first into his pillow. It was definitely flirting, and that was bad. Bad news bears. The Danger Zone. He was terrible at rejection, miserable at letting women down easy, probably because he’d so seldom had to do it. He was usually the one undergoing the rejection. In some other time, some other version of the world, he knew this would play out differently. A weaker version of himself would give in, would fall toward her like a desperate lost animal until she grew tired of him and left.
But he had Dana now, and just the thought of her made him feel strong. He remembered the feel of her pajamas under his hands while they slept on the couch, how she’d come down the stairs in soft flannel, nervous at first, like he might change his mind when he saw her. But when they looked at each other across the living room, her socked feet quiet on the carpet, it was as if the tumblers of a great lock clicked into place and they were just them again. They watched A Christmas Carol on TV with her head on his chest, like they’d known each other a thousand years. He needed her now (needed her always), so he drew on the strength he’d found with her that night.
In the morning, Fowley drove again. “Is it a left up here?”
He checked the map. “The second one.”
“Agent Mulder,” she said. “Can I call you Fox?”
“Um.” He cleared his throat. “I, ah… I’d like to keep this professional. If that’s alright with you.”
“Of course,” she said, stiffer now, sitting upright in the driver’s seat. “I just wanted to say thank you. For taking time out of your work in BSU to do this, I mean.” She put on her blinker and made the turn. “Agent Mulder.”
He nodded, and they were silent for the rest of the drive.
Three days later they were on their way back to D.C. When Fox got home, he put in a request for two days off (a long weekend) and booked a Thursday morning flight to California.

What We Owe To Each Other: Ch. 3 - Night
A/N: Here’s the angsty part of a fic literally no one asked for!!!
Morning | Noon | Night | Midnight | Nightmare | Dawn
[Link on AO3]
Sam did not want to admit it out loud, but he was starting to believe that he was truly and utterly lost.
He pulled out his phone and checked his current location. He was sure about the direction he had taken; he had passed the right landmarks, made no unnecessary turns from the main road. His destination was off the beaten path but thankfully, it had stopped raining and the fog had partly cleared that he managed to easily spot his way. He had been certain that he was in the right address. This had to be the right place.
What was bothering him now was that the house that loomed behind the massive iron-wrought gates was the exact opposite of a fucking cottage.
Sam pulled over next to a silver Sedan (another rental, he could tell by that same tacky sticker plastered on its windshield) hooded over by the blood-red foliage of maple trees on what appeared to be the lot’s designated parking space. In the discomfort of the Chevy’s front seat, he began to assess all his available options. He could check out the house, ask its occupants for proper directions. Or he could turn his way back around. He could find a decent lodging to spend the night somewhere in Westmore, or any nearby town perhaps, and craft another excuse to tell his brother as to why he didn’t make it.
Or, well, he could disregard his pride and simply call Nathan for help.
This is stupid. I’m being stupid.
Sam sighed. He fished his phone out again, scrolled through his list of contacts, hovered over Nathan’s name for a little too long. He has not even called him yet, but he can already hear his brother’s clever and punk-ass reaction.
Fine. Fuck this.
He took another deep breath. Just as he was about to press that Call button, a knock on his window startled him out of his wits.
“Holy Mother of God!” Sam hissed, accidentally slamming a hand over the car horn that it shrieked like a shameless cry for help. He turned, and by the window was a familiar face curiously watching him with an almost amused expression.
It was Elena.
“I’m so sorry,” she said as soon as he got out of the car. She was in a cozy-looking parka, sweatpants and running shoes, her cheeks a shade rosier from the cold. “Didn’t mean to scare you.”
“Nah, it’s fine.” He buried his hands in the pockets of his jacket. It was freezing as fuck. “What’re you doing out here?”
“I was out for a walk. Then I saw that there’s another car parked next to ours. Figured it would be you.”
“Oh.”
“And you were in there for a really long time, so. Yeah.”
“Well, I thought I was…” Sam trailed off. He looked at the house behind Elena, then back at her. “I’m in the right place, am I?”
“Yup.” Elena was smiling. “Trust me, that was our reaction when we first got here, too. Seriously, Sullivan needs to work on his definition of a cottage.”
Sam stared at her. “Christ, Victor owns this place?”
Elena nodded in response. “C’mon,” she said cheerily, nodding her head towards the gate, “Let’s get inside. I’ll let Sullivan explain everything to you and maybe get him to take you on his personal tour.”
Sam grabbed his duffel from the trunk and let Elena lead the way.
The sun slowly plummeted over the horizon, simmering gold through the trees, scorching the sky like a third-degree burn. There was no noise except for the crunch of their shoes on the carpet of gravel and dried leaves, the whistle of the wind, the chorus of birdsong from somewhere up the canopies. The air was sharp and chilly. Not far away, the Mansard roof and the whitewashed façade of Sully’s estate began to reveal itself behind the veil of autumn foliage like an enigmatic bride.
“By the way,” Sam began as they climbed the front steps, “I heard from Nathan. Congratulations. Good job for making me an uncle.”
Elena laughed. “You’re welcome. Glad to be of service, I guess.”
“Now I hope you don’t mind if I teach your kid a thing or two about picking locks and—”
“Oh don’t even think about that.”
“Alright. I’ll simply bore them to death.”
“Now that’s impossible. Trouble makes you the least boring person I know.”
“Whoa, now I don’t know if I should take that as a compliment.”
“It is a compliment.” She turned to face him, smiled at him knowingly. “But y’know, I suppose I should thank you, too.”
“Really?” Sam quirked a curious brow. “For what?”
“Nate told me about your sage advice.”
“Oh. That.” Sam shrugged. “Well, I wouldn’t exactly call it sagely,” he said, “but more like a push in the right direction.”
“Of course. But I appreciate it, really. Anyway,” she said as she casually opened the mahogany doors before them, “After you.”
Elena ushered Sam inside the house. Walking into the foyer, he found himself taking a sharp inhale and stuttering to a halt: gilt mirrors and chandeliers, potted palms and porcelain vases, plaster-medallioned ceiling and ivory floors polished to saintly perfection. Down to the wide archway to his immediate right was a gallery exquisitely curated with the finest marble sculptures and Impressionist paintings (there were a couple from Monet and Cézanne and Renoir which he recognized almost immediately, like spotting a familiar face in a crowd of strangers, and he hated how he still knew this because this was Darcy’s thing and fuck he did not need to be reminded of her at this time of day), a couple of photographs and portraits lining the walls, and ancient pieces that would probably cost more than his life. Somewhere, the jazz music he had heard earlier from the phone echoed like a sickly sweet invitation. Even the room smelled nice and elegant: of roast beef, of roses, of cigars and big money. Also, it was comfortably warm.
Startled and half-dazed, not quite sure what he was seeing or where he was even, as if he had been suddenly jettisoned to outer space, Sam turned to Elena and said: “This is… are you positively sure this is Victor’s house?”
Elena huffed an amused laugh. “I know it’s a lot to take in but yeah.” She shouldered off her parka and hung it over a coat rack. She helped Sam out of his jacket, too. “Nate and Sully’s in the kitchen—”
“I’ll be goddamned—look who decided to show up.”
A rich and sonorous voice that Sam knew so well rang out and sauntered into the hall.
“Victor.” Sam offered a small nod as the one and only man of the house—nay, mansion—gave him a strong, parental hug which he returned rather sheepishly. Though he found it strange to be shown such an affectionate gesture, it was even stranger for him to see Victor outside his usual colourful Havana shirts; in his gray long-sleeved turtleneck and dark trousers, he almost seemed so foreign. Warm and snug, sure—but still painfully foreign. Despite that, he still carried that same slick and silvery charm as if he never aged a day.
“Well now.” Victor stepped back, clapping both hands on Sam’s broad shoulders. “I honestly thought you wouldn’t show up.”
“What can I say? I live to disappoint.” Sam shrugged. “But anyway,” he said, “be honest with me: who did you murder to afford this place, huh? We had all the time in Lisbon and you didn’t tell me about this!”
“I’m glad to let you know that I didn’t get my hands bloody to get this place. This belonged to my family for generations.” Victor extracted a pack from the back pocket of his jeans and lit a cigar. “This—“ he was gesturing a hand in the air, the curl of smoke rising between his fingers— “had been in tatters a couple of years back. Had to make sure this entire place was in its pristine condition before I had anyone come over and see it.”
“And that’s only half of the story,” Elena added. She crossed her arms and looked at Victor critically. “Wait until you hear about how he acquired a certain Rembrandt piece.”
Sam waved away Elena’s words with an incredulous hand. “Wait a fucking second.” He stared at Victor. “Did I hear that right? You have a goddamn Rembrandt? What the—”
“Elena? Sully? You guys left me in the kitchen and you all know how I’m accident-prone—oh, about time you got here!”
Sam turned and was welcomed by Nathan with a firm slap on his back as soon as he walked in. He was wearing a dark cashmere sweater, ripped jeans, and one of those aprons with an obscenely suggestive text that said May I suggest this sausage written in a terrible font face.
“Why hello there, little brother,” Sam said a shade too mockingly. “Don’t you look dashing.”
Nathan scowled. “Okay, before you even judge me,” he began to tell Sam defensively, “I have to say that this—” he gestured a hand over his apron— “belongs to Sully.”
“Not that I needed clarification, but okay,” Sam said smugly. They all laughed.
“Look, kid,” said Victor, turning to Nathan, “why don’t you take your brother to his room? Elena and I will take care of things down here.”
“Yeah, sure thing.” Nathan peeled off the apron and handed it to Victor. “Can’t bear the thought of being the jackass to accidentally burn your mansion.”
Victor shook his head. “That’s why I’m effectively relieving you of kitchen duty. Now scoot.”
Sam followed Nathan down the hall, up a sweeping staircase, and then another hall with mahogany doors leading to more rooms. More photographs and more gilt-framed portraits hung on the walls. Everywhere smelled sweet and musty and oppressively opulent.
“Here we are,” said Nathan as he opened the last door at the end of the corridor.
Obviously, the room was nothing less lavish than what Sam had seen thus far from the entire house. Stepping inside, it was as if he had slipped into a different time period, some Gothic universe that distinctly reeked of that 19th-century grandeur: fancy carpets on hardwood floors, paneled walls of deep green, gray velvet curtains draped over large windows. A pair of armchairs and a lumpy sofa upholstered in rose-patterned fabric were primly arranged opposite a marble fireplace. Figurines and books occupied any available surface. In the middle of the room, an ornately carved four-poster bed covered in fluffy linens seduced Sam with the lure of much-needed sleep.
“Jesus,” he said, dropping his bag next to a rosewood desk. “This house is fucking nuts.”
Nathan laughed. “I know,” he said. “This is like one of those rooms in Hampton Court Palace. Remember—“
“Yeah, yeah—first heist with Cutter, I know.” And with Darcy, too. Sam winced an empty smile. “Don’t need to remind me,” he muttered almost to himself. “So—“ he paced across the room, looking around earnestly, decidedly eager to change the subject— “how did the talk go with the wife?”
“Oh.” Nathan sat at the edge of the bed. “It was okay. Got to sort things out. And…” He trailed off. “Well, you were right,” he said quietly.
Sam stopped and narrowed his eyes at Nathan, a snarky smirk tugging at the corners of his mouth. “Come again? I didn’t quite catch that.”
Nathan snorted a derisive laugh. “You just want me to say it again, don’t you?”
“I really need you to say it again ‘cause I didn’t hear it the first time.”
“Well, I won’t.”
“Really? So that’s how it is?”
“Fine, fine. I said you were right.”
Sam beamed a triumphant smiled. “Why, thank you.”
“No, thank you.”
They did not say anything for a while. Then, Nathan got up and walked to the door. “Anyway,” he said, awkwardly clearing his throat, “I know you’re tired, so I’ll leave and give you time for a decent shut-eye. Dinner’s at eight, by the way.”
“Yeah, sure. Got it.”
Left to his own devices, Sam began to look around the room with a studied carefulness, examining every trinket and decor he could find like a detective dusting for fingerprints. He soon lost interest. He rarely got bored with things like these, but perhaps it was the exhaustion. Perhaps it was an exhaustion of an alien stranded in a different time, trying to phone home.
But there was no home. He never had one. And somehow, as he laid down on the bed in resignation, staring at the ceiling, he felt like he was not supposed to be here at all.
___
Sam is back in his prison cell in Panama.
He is supposed to be used to this by now—as one does, he guessed, if one had spent more than a decade incarcerated for a crime he did not commit—except the rush of terror that cuts him is a freshly sharpened blade. The trauma resurrects itself anew. It does not settle to be a memory so it replays itself like this:
Two men seize him by the arms, dragging him out and throwing him into the darkness. He is welcomed by a sharp embrace of a metal pipe, of many pairs of fists, and his knees, oh his knees are traitorous allies that buckles and trembles onto the cold, shit-stained floor. His bullet wounds have not fully recovered yet but the guards are his doctors believing that he will find his healing in the violence. This is his medicine. They watch him swallow and gag and retch. Get used to it, they say. This will make a better man out of you, says another. This is what your freedom looks like now, someone else spits out. The men restore his body with bruises. Paints him purple and pink and bloody. Split lip and swollen eyes. What is his body but a dishrag pulp of flesh? Pain is as sweet as morphine, a name that his body has memorized like an old lover’s kiss. So he takes and takes and takes. He does not scream. He does not beg them to stop. But he cries. His sobs echo without a sound. He lets his own voice choke him until they kill him for good.
___
Sam had meant to only sleep for a few hours, but he woke up sweating and with a heaving start to find the room bathed in silvery moonlight that made everything seem so startling and disarmingly unreal. Groggily, he looked around and the first one he saw was a woman sitting by the side of his bed.
And he was gripping her wrist like he was squeezing the life out of her.
It took him seconds to realize that it was Elena.
He let go of her, suddenly aflame with embarrassment.
“Shit, I—“ he stammered, running a hand over his hair, fumbling to turn on the bedside lamp— “I’m so, so sorry, I didn’t—“
“Hey, it’s alright,” Elena said. She was looking at him with a pained and worried expression on her face that made his embarrassment even worse. “Bad dream?” she asked.
“Sort of.”
“For how long have you been going through this?”
Sam did not answer. He did not know what he should tell her. He could only avoid her gaze like a fretful child, and a part of him hated it.
Before the silence could stretch on for more uncomfortable minutes, Elena got up. “I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to pry,” she said regretfully. “Anyway, Nate was supposed to be the one to wake you up, but Sully sent him for a quick errand but um, I’m here to let you know that dinner’s ready.”
Sam nodded weakly. “Right. Uh, Elena?”
“Yeah?”
“Please don’t tell Nathan about this.”
Elena stared at him with obvious admonishment, as if she was she was holding back the judgment she was trying to pass. “Okay, I won’t,” she said finally. “Because I trust that you’ll be the one to tell him about it.”
Sam said nothing. He watched Elena close the door behind her.

The Catskills, Summer, 1963
The beat up station wagon bumped along the narrow, winding roadway, laden with with the weight of its three passengers as well as an exorbitant amount of luggage. Commanding the vehicle was Henry Beauchamp, eyes intent on the road, with the lowered window blowing back his salt-and pepper hair. Seated next to him, delicately poised on the edge of her seat, sat his wife, Julia. Het cat-eyed sunglasses sat perched on the bridge of her nose as she flipped through the pages of a mystery novel. And crammed between the luggage in the back of the car, a misshapen shape of knees and elbows, sat Claire Beauchamp. She ran a hand though her mop of unruly brown curls, pushing back the strands that were slick to her forehead in sweat. She was deeply engrossed in her own reading; a medical journal she had stolen from the Oxford University library, the school she would be attending in the fall.
Her parents, called this trip a last hurrah, a final voyage as a family to visit her Uncle Lamb at his resort in Pennsylvania. They flew across the Atlantic, bags in hand, and immediately began the next part of their journey, in a shoddy rental car Claire was appalled to learn did not have air conditioning. If she were being honest, this was the last place she would like to be. She would be far more content in her cozy home in Oxfordshire, peeling through books of medical research in an attempt to prepare herself for the year to come.
“Claire, did you hear that?” Julia questioned.
“Mhm? Oh, no. Sorry. I was reading.”
“Your father said we were only a few minutes away now!” The excitement in Julia’s voice was palpable, but Claire could do little to share in the enthusiasm.
Joy, bloody joy! She thought to herself, snickering.
“Did you say something sweetie?”
“Oh no. Nothing at all!”
The gravel road sloped into concrete as the resort grew in from of them. Beauchamp Lodgings: Your Home Away From Home  the massive sign read in bold bright letters.
Claire scoffed as she wondered how her uncle had come to this. Without any children or wife, Quentin Lambert Beauchamp had traveled the world as an archaeologist, and Claire was eager to hear his stories of the deserts of Egypt of the heights of the Himalayas. It astounded her that something about this remote forest spoke to him and beckoned him to build a permanent home. Claire gazed out the window, observing the scene. Scattered bungalows law across the vibrant green grass. Happy faces strolled across the pathways, engaged in vibrant conversation, and decked in all their resort finery. As the car came to a stop, the car lurched forward, and Claire smashed her head on the back of the seat in front of her.
“Jesus H. Roosevelt Christ!” Claire cried, clutching her hand to her forehead.
‘Language, Claire.” Henry admonished, but she could clearly see the smile creeping across his face. Claire opened the car door, and stepped into the bright summer sun. The light was astounding, and she momentarily felt like she had ascended into a separate plane of existence. But the aching muscles of being shoved directly from an airplane into a crowded car quickly sent her crashing back to reality. She jumped around in an attempt to stretch, rolling her joints and breathing a sigh of relief at the audible pop in her neck. A chuckle behind her sent Claire whirling around, crashing directly into a wall of muscle. She craned her neck to see who had so rudely laughed at her discomfort, and were momentarily taken aback by the figure before her. A pair of warm blue- eyes, crinkled with mirth greeted her, placed on an angular face, dotted to copper stubble. He has his red hair slicked back from his face, but Claire could see it curling cherub-like at the nape of his neck.  What she had run into was his  muscular frame, clearly visible through the thin white material of his tea shirt, and Claire could see a few curling strands of red chair creeping up above the neckline.
` Embarrassment flooded Claire’s features, realizing that the stranger was laughing at her peculiar post- car ride spectacle. She felt a flush creeping up her cheeks, crimson enough to match the hair of her mystery companion. He laughed again, and Claire’s mortification quickly dissipated and was replaced with a red hot anger.
“Can I help you?” She questioned, placing her hands on her tips in an effort to look intimidating. Clearly it failed, as the ginger giant only laughed harder. Fuming, Claire stuck her nose up at him. “ What exactly do you find so goddamn funny?
The man paused, taken aback by Claire’s language, but she was in no mood to back down. She arched one eyebrow in question, daring him to answer.
“I was laughing at you, lass! Ye made yourself look like quite the sight with your flailing about.”
It was Claire’s turn to be taken aback. “You’re a scot!”
“Aye. I am. And you’re an english woman if I’ve ever seen one. I take it you’re Quentin’s niece?”
“I am. How could you tell?”
“Ye have the same air as him. Stubborn. I like it.”
Claire struggled to piece together a response. She barely knew this man, and yet he was already complimenting her on traits he didn’t even know she possessed. Her friends had warned her about this type of boy, the type who oozed charisma and sent all girls within a 10-mile radius weak in the knees. She was not about to fall into his trap.
But before she had time to issue a clever retort, she was enveloped in the warm embrace of her Uncle, who seemingly appeared out of thin air.
“There’s my favorite girl!” His amber eyes, which matched Claire’s own, sparkled in excitement, and she held her back and looked her over from head to toe. “You’ve grown into quite the beauty, my dear. Wouldn’t you say so Jamie?”
He fixed his eyes upon the stranger, and it was Claire’s turn to smirk. His name was Jamie.
“Aye.” He replied, unsure of himself. “She’s a bonnie lass.”
“Indeed she is. And you best stay away from her!”
Claire and Jamie both turned and looked at Lamb in shock.
“I am only kidding! I’m glad you to have met! Claire, this is James Fraser, our resident dance instructor. He is one of a kind! You should go to one of his classes while you’re here”
Claire nodded, and Jamie stuck out his hand, which completely enveloped Claire’s on. “Please, just call me Jamie. ”
Claire felt herself shiver at the way he said her name. It was lilting, almost like a foreign language. She had never thought of her name as being beautiful until her heard it with his Scottish tongue.
He pulled his hand away, and Claire could still feel the warmth radiating off of her own palm. She was sure she looked like a dumbstruck fool.
Jamie smiled at her, and Claire felt herself smiling back, as though her muscles were acting completely on their own accord.
“Jamie, could you help bring the Beauchamp’s belonging to villa 10?” Uncle Lamb asked.
“Aye.” He turned to walk away. “‘Twas a pleasure to meet you, sassenach. I’ll be seeing you around” And then he was gone, suitcases in and, making his way down the gravel walkway before disappearing around a corner.
Uncle Lamb escorted Claire and her family inside the main building, chatting absentmindedly with his brother and sister-in-law. But Claire, couldn’t resist one more quick glance behind her, and swore she saw a mop of red hair quickly dart away.
Yes. she thought to herself I suppose we’ll be seeing much more of each other.

Big Guy - oneshot
aka That Time I Drank A Bottle Of Champagne And Accidentally Wrote Smut
Where Finn and his (unnamed, vague OC) girlfriend have been together for a little bit and in the few months since they first were intimate, she’s yet to get him out of his pants and return the favor. Features one bad Machine Gun pun because I have some restraint, but not a lot.
Her fingers card through Finn’s hair, gripping and tugging as she cries out her pleasure. Her head tosses from side to side, unable to keep still, moans and whimpers spilling from pretty pink lips as he continues his tongue’s loving assault between her thighs. His tongue, warm and velvet soft, undulates and teases her folds, working her ever higher. When his lips encircle her clit, swollen and throbbing from his attention, sucking wetly as her, she has to tug at his hair, trying to pull him away, the pleasure too much and making her body quake with another sweet release.
Finn growls, something deep and sexy, and pushes against her until she’s folded nearly in two and his mouth is on her again, wanting to hear her scream. His fingers, long and elegant and rough from years of disciplined work, grip at the tops of her thighs, holding her open for him to continue to devour. He’s not done, not even close. He peeks up at her, blue eyes nearly completely black with lust, nosing at her clit while his tongue flicks and teases and taunts her. He loves this; loves giving pleasure, loves knowing that every sigh and moan and scream ripped from her elegant throat is from him. He loves the way she tastes of warm vanilla and slightly salty musk, of the sweat of her exertion, completely unable to lay still so long as his tongue is playing its clever game with her pussy. He moans against her, letting his eyes slip shut as he presses tighter against her until his pointed tongue is so deep in her pretty, wet cunt that he can practically feel her cervix.
She wails pathetically, completely at his mercy, knowing that he’s never going to let her go so long as he can wring one more orgasm from her pliant body. She’s loose-limbed and warm, her whole body wracked with constant shivers. Every flick of his tongue inside her, swipe up her slick lips, suck on her engorged clit has her crying out, the pleasure holding that razor-sharp edge of pain from his overstimulation, but all it does is make her cries that much louder, her orgasm that much harder when her whole body spasms, legs tightening around his head, wave after wave knocking her breath away.
“Finn…Finn, baby, please, I can’t,” she gasps, trying hard to catch her breath. “’s too much.”
He hums, deep and knowing, and presses little open-mouthed kisses from her clit to taint, licking up her pleasure smugly. “You were perfect for me, Darlin’,” he practically coos, nuzzling at the crease of her thigh. “Rest now. I’ll be back after I shower.” He waits for her to nod her assent before he’s kissing just below her belly button and slipping out of the bed.
She settles bonelessly against the sheets, chest still heaving as she tries to catch her breath while he putters about the room and slips into the bathroom, cock straining against his shorts. In the few months since she and Finn had first become intimate, this had become normal: Finn holding her down while he worked her over with hands and mouth, bringing her orgasm after orgasm with startling proficiency until she was so fucked out and useless that she could barely speak, let alone return any favors. At first, she thought he was just a very good, very selfless lover, wanting to make sure she got hers first and maybe taking it a little too far. But now, days have turned to weeks have turned to months, and she still hasn’t even seen his cock, let alone touched it.
It wasn’t as if she hadn’t tried. Gods, had she tried. She’d tried to slip into the bathroom after him the first time, and he’d sent her back to bed with a sweet kiss that held her lingering taste and a playful slap to her ass. He’d taken since to locking the bathroom door. So she tried waiting for him to come back to bed, some of her energy and mind restored, before cuddling up close to his side and trailing a hand down down down his chest to his beautiful abs and lower. But before she had reached the band of his boxer briefs, her hand was caught in his, brought to his mouth for a sweet kiss, and placed over his heart. “I’m fine, love,” he’d said, lips curled in a playful little smile. “Just you sleep, now.” She’d tried since then to slip her fingers beneath the top of his trunks after successful matches, intending to have her turn before he’d turned her entire being to jelly. He’d smacked her hand playfully and wagged one of those beautifully dexterous fingers in her face. “Ahh-ahh, now, you little minx. I’m on the clock.”
At this point, she didn’t know what to think. Maybe he didn’t like being touched sexually? She’d had friends and acquaintances over the years that had fallen somewhere on the asexual spectrum, and she certainly wouldn’t be upset with him if that was the case. But why hadn’t he told her that any of the times when she had tried to bring him pleasure? He wasn’t a virgin, of that she was sure. Karl and Luke had a dozen stories from their years together that certainly put that to rest. The only thing left, that she could think of, was that it was her.
She frowns at that. Could it be her? He didn’t seem to have any trouble with touching her, tasting her, working her body like he knew every secret touch and place which, frankly, she was pretty sure he did, the way that he always seemed to know what to do to give her just one more crashing, earth-shattering orgasm. Maybe he didn’t think she was good enough or experienced enough to bring him the same sort of pleasure.
Her frown only deepens as she hears the shower turn off.
She turns to her side, facing away from Finn’s spot and towards the hotel wall. She wiggles uncomfortably and closes her eyes, trying to will away her melancholy thoughts. She ignores the sounds of him coming back into the room, his bare feet padding quietly on the carpet as he settles his toiletries back into his bag before coming to gently rest behind her in the bed. He cuddles up against her back, arms wrapping around her to hold her close. He sighs, breath warm and minty against her neck.
“For fucks sake, Karl,” she groans into the phone. “I didn’t call you for you to make fun of me, I called you for help.”
She was at her wits end, navigating her rental car from the hotel to the arena for the night while speaking to him over the bluetooth speakers. She hadn’t known what else to do, who she could speak to, and decided on the decidedly less volatile former Club member.
“I don’t know what exactly you were expecting, Dollface,” he tells her, smirk evident in his voice. “You barely let me answer before you’re asking me, of all people, about your boyfriend’s dick.” It goes unsaid, but they’re both pretty proud that he hasn’t dissolved into “machine gun” jokes. Yet.
“You’ve known him forever, though. If you weren’t married, I’d think you two were the ones dating,” she points out, only a little bit joking. “He trusts you, which means I trust you. So why the hell won’t he let me suck him off or anything?” She almost wants to blush, but she’s so far passed it at this point. “You’ve gotta know something that I’m missing here.”
“Have you tried talking to Finn? Maybe?” he asks, infinite wisdom hidden somewhere in that beautiful bald head.
“Well, shit.”
She’s working with the crew to set up cameras and lighting for the backstage interviews when Finn leans against the wall with a cocked eyebrow. She excuses herself quickly, letting him take her hand and lead her to one of the empty dressing rooms.
“I’ve gotta ask ya, Love, why the fook Anderson is askin’ about m’cock?” he breathes out, somewhere between distressed and amused. “Worse yet, he’s got Gallows all worked up about wheder’r not ma ‘machine gun’ is jammed.”
She lets out a pitiful noise, hiding her face against Finn’s chest.
“Is dere sometin’ ya wanna tell me?” he asks when it’s clear she’s not going to answer.
“I just…you won’t let me touch you,” she mumbles, hoping his shirt hides her words. “He’s you best friend, I thought maybe he would know what was going on.” Finn tenses before her, and her hands fist in his shirt, refusing to let go. “You can’t tell me you didn’t think I’d noticed.”
“I’d hoped,” he admits, hands gently squeezing her hips. “I just…I did’n’ want you to leave.”
She goes still, confused. She pulls back, looking up into Finn’s ashamed blue eyes. “I’m sorry, what was that?”
Finn grunts, his eyes rolling. “I don’ want ya to leave after seein’ me.” He swallows hard, clearing trying to pick his words carefully. “I’m not exactly small down dere, Darlin’.”
As far as reactions go, she’s pretty sure laughter isn’t what he was expecting. “No shit, Finn. I’ve seen you in your trunks and they don’t exactly leave a lot to the imagination.” She looks up at him, feeling so much relief and adoration for the man she’s wrapping her arms around, but also feeling a bit like she should have been doing more to make him feel confident, and she has every intention to rectify that. “At the end of the day, you and me are a team and believe you me, we’ll make it work, Big Guy.” She winks at him playfully, leaning up to peck a kiss to his lips.
Finn doesn’t smile, though. “That’s not all,” he tells her, looking so worried and sincere that her heart breaks in her chest. “I’m not…” He stops, considering his words. “My parents, dey did’n’ have me circumcised.”
She blinks, looking up at him almost blankly but for the way her pupils dilate. “Finn,” she breathes, fingers gathering up the material of his shirt at the nape of his neck between her fingers. “Baby, why on earth would you think that’s a problem?” she murmurs, trying to keep herself in control and hide the sudden surge of want she feels pulsing under her skin. A problem it most certainly is not, and she doesn’t want to scare him with how much she wants to show him just that.
He looks away, cheeks ruddy and flushed. “It has been in da past. Da last time I got serious wit’ a girl, she took one look at me and called it off. I did’n’ want dat wit’ you.”
She looks up at Finn, leaning up on her toes to press sweet little kisses along his jaw, nipping his chin gently when he doesn’t relax under her touch. “I can guarantee you, Mr. Balor, whatever it is that you’ve been hiding from me, we are both going to enjoy it,” she purrs, giving him a soft push back towards the couch. “Now let me show you just how not a problem this is.”
Finn, for his part, doesn’t seem terribly convinced just yet. He goes with it, though, trusting her enough to let her push him back onto the couch. She climbs into his lap, pushing their chests together as she leans close to steal a sweet kiss that soon turns to show itself for the hungry, needy thing that it truly is. She takes her time, wanting to make sure Finn knows that this right now is about their pleasure together, not just his or hers. She mouths her way down his neck, sucking little kisses along the firm lines of his body, making her way slowly back to his mouth before she gives the same treatment to the other side until he’s a loose, moaning mess under her. When she rolls her hips down against him and feels his rock up in answer, thick bulge of his cock straining against his already tight jeans when he presses against her, she knows he’s right where she wants him.
“Gonna let me touch you?” she breathes, voice pitching up in a little whine as she grinds down against him again. She shivers at the feel of him twitching against her core between their layers of clothes. “Gods, Finn, please let me suck your big cock. I’ve been dying to feel you.”
Finn groans, nodding his head as he steals messy little kisses from her parted lips. “You can have anyt’in’ you want, Darlin’,” he murmurs.
She makes a pleased little sound, slowly wriggling until she’s out of Finn’s lap and nestled between his thick thighs on the floor. She noses along his length, still hidden behind rigid denim, mouthing her way from his balls to his tip. She hums happily, eyes lidded as she peers up at him, making sure she has his eyes before catching the zip between her teeth and tugging it all the way down. She lets her mouth tease along his open fly while her hands take care of the button at the top. She can’t help but moan at the scent of him, musky and heady and finally all hers.
He swallows hard as he watches her, determined and wanting. He’s still worried she’s going to change her mind, but she’s so far doing a great job at assuring him that she wants him, and badly. He moans quietly, eyes hazy as he watches her carefully peel away his clothes like he’s the best present she’s ever received. When she finally tugs away his briefs, her eyes are locked on his with the same coy little smile that she had on her lips the first time she oversaw one of his post-match interviews. And when her eyes finally glance down at him, all of him, he can’t believe he was ever nervous. Her eyes go dark and hungry, slowly taking in every inch of his rigid, wanting cock from the way his balls are already tight to his body, to his generously curved shaft, to his leaking head, red and peeking out from his foreskin.
“Fuck,” she breathes, lips curling into an even wider smile. She finally tears her eyes away to meet his again, and reaches a small hand up to give him a long stroke. She moans with him, wrist twisting as she reaches the crown, thumb swiping over the head to catch the wetness there and smooth it back down. She wouldn’t call herself a size queen, but Finn is wonderfully proportionate, thick and long and she knows he’s gonna feel even better in her mouth and her pussy. She makes a pleased sound at that, eager to celebrate his next win by bouncing on his perfect cock, but files that away for later so she can get back to the task quite literally at hand. She leans forward and mimics her earlier path, tonguing the seam of his balls before she’s moving up his shaft, mouthing his wetly. She sucks kisses along his length, drawing the excess skin between her lips to lightly roll it, tongue flicking before letting every inch go with a wet smack of her lips until she’s finally, finally at the tip. She strokes down, exposing the pretty flushed head and taking it into her mouth. She hums greedily at her first taste of him, musky and salty sweet and perfect, tongue dipping between shaft and foreskin to chase every drop.
Above her, Finn is a panting, moaning mess. He’s reduced to repeating her name over and over, his hands finding their way to her hair before he can stop himself. He gathers the long, silky strands between his fingers, holding it back at the crown of her head so he can watch every lick and suck and moan she makes as she draws out his pleasure with eager skillfulness. When she takes him deep enough that he presses against her throat, he can’t help the jerk of his hips, having gone so long without having someone touching him.
She swallows around him with only a little difficulty, winking up at him as she swallows around just his head and foreskin before pulling back. She strokes him quickly, her spit and his precome wetting his cock. “C’mon Finn. It’s not nice to hold back on me after all this time,” she purrs, voice raspy and needy and thats all it takes, that’s all he needs.
He gives her hair a tug, not as gentle as he’d hoped for, urging her back to him. She takes him back into her mouth, moaning around him and gently sucking while her hand strokes him and the other comes up from where it’s been braced on his thigh to roll and squeeze at his balls, and his back bows as his cock twitches and he comes in hot, thick ropes across her tongue and palate. He groans, body shaking with the force of his orgasm, and falls back, boneless and peaceful, against the couch.
She pulls back once she’s certain she’s milked him of every last drop, letting her tongue slowly and gently clean him of his release. Her hands run up Finn’s body until they splay out on his lower stomach, nails gently teasing his skin there as she runs her tongue around his head, tip catching the last few drops of his come before she’s swallowing it all down. She releases his soft cock with a wet little pop, looking up at him with every bit of adoration for him that she has, sated and happy.
Finn lazily tugs at her, pulling her up into his lap. He pecks kisses around her mouth, tired and slow and drugged, reminiscent of every kiss she ever returned after he’d taken his time taking her apart. The irony isn’t lost on him that she’s still dressed, watching him happily, and gently smacking his hand when he reaches for the fly of her jeans.
“Nope. This was exactly what I needed,” she tells him, and meaning every word.

the manipulator during the epidemic
I wrote an article I have not yet published that explains how good guys underestimate the amount of bad guys. And that bad people reveal themselves a lot more in times of crisis. I thought about wars or revolutions. But the current crisis is also accurate.
My estimation, based on books, observation, logic, history and, dare I confess, clairvoyance, is that there are around 35% of negative people in most democracies, the countries where we are less traumatized and thus, not pushed into survival mode.
In non-democratic countries, where this survival instinct has been activated, it has also the side effect to have people put the best of humanity aside, compassion and love, and it's my belief that in Russia and China, for example, the positive citizens are a minority. And it must be hell for a person with empathy, I feel, to live there.
Among this negative people, there are roughly 30% of selfish persons, who do not manipulate and can still have some conscience wake-up calls, 40% of narcissists who are manipulators without conscience but less Machiavellian cleverness than the other 30% of psychopaths or sociopaths. And this is to bring back to the total. In any given democracy, it means there would be roughly 10% of psychopaths.
And in peace time, this little world of egotistical people is more or less hiding behind the social norm of our "modern" times. But when there is a crisis, they clearly enjoy being themselves.
It could have been arrogance or it could have been a tough childhood that had the manipulator cut himself form a good part of his emotions. Notably the best part: at the bottom of his Pandora box, there is only pleasure left.
And with this spectrum of emotions which has him feel more like a stone than a human, it will be so much easier for him to adapt to social distancing - doesn't know anguish, nor depression - and to boast, from this "moral" point of view, that it's very easy to cope with the stuff, that you "just" have to lounge on a couch, or "just" have to watch TV.
And when, on Instagram, some people expect followers to admire their example, telling them that you "just" have to push on your internal happiness switch, as if we were all just clocks, I would bet a lot, that they are manipulators. And more so when this advice is written under a selfie.
The manipulator doesn't fear much but he fears being discovered, getting old, getting sick and death.
Not for those he loves, of course, he loves nobody but himself. Or yes, sometimes, those he sees as a projection of himself. His survival is essential to him, it may have been the reason he chose to cut himself from emotions. I do not mean here, that we, positive people, have reached a Buddhist detachment but that we are able to take risks for others and believe in something or someone more important than we are. For the manipulator, his own end is the end of the world. And the spectre of this Coronavirus has him lash out; anger is one of the emotions he has left. I'm  not surprised, then, when I read that conjugal violence is rising. As do divorces. And racial crimes.
Some negative people, in France, will harass medical staff, putting messages in mailboxes, asking nurses to think about their health - the nerve! - and move. Some owners will even put an end to rental contracts without notice. And I dare say it's not even legal.
Without a spouse or a scapegoat, you can always lash out on Twitter or from a window. Lynching and stoning is a group pleasure no negative person could refuse. And social media, in our “civilized” times is quite as good as the real thing. "Stay home" will he shout without bothering to know what the purpose of the walk is. The good old mask of virtue and common good allows some to express anger and hate with impunity.
The solitary walk in a forest is, it would seem, after the masturbation, the least dangerous activity in these dangerous times and it has been, within limits, authorized in France. And this hasn't prevented some, there, on Twitter, to clutch their pearls and threaten to shoot the walker. I even saw a picture of a tarpaulin under which the would-be-murderer claimed he wished to put his future victims. Murdering someone or talking about it, in the name of an hypothetical common good, in general, is a good indication of hypocrisy or manipulation. Torquemada comes to mind, who, in his own time, would have had the reputation of a saint, taking care of others’ souls, while enjoying the legal torture. Or Robespierre, claiming that in the name or purity and the good of a whole country, he was ready to behead half of it. And would have done so if he hadn't succumbed to his own tool first.
And it will be the same profile, and even the same person, who will walk his dog ten times a day or rent one, still clothed with the same respectability cloak, because in this case, you use the basis of the law, if not the spirit.
There is also some anger that can at least express itself in some French regions when they slash tires or damage the paint of cars that seem to come from other counties, worst of all... from Paris! They can at last show what they really think about the loathsome Parisian. And certainly, some people who have run to their secondary house when travelling was forbidden and they knew the consequences on the local community, may have been negative people. But it was not necessarily the case of those who had this reflex at the beginning of everything when they had no apparent symptoms. If I had been living in a flat at the time, in the absence of rules and thorough information on the matter, honestly, I don't know what I would have done. And the good people who indiscriminately damage others' cars (one local doctor whom it happened to, had a borrowed car with a "foreign" license plate ) should think that they should take care of their reputation. Because it would have an impact on tourism and their future prosperity.
When, in front of the crisis, and in the absence of any possible panic attack, so many citizens are hoarding toilet paper or disinfectant, hurting others who will have none, this lack of solidarity, this selfishness can also be the sign of someone being negative. Some go farther still, selling this stock at higher price: taking advantage of chaos and others is so manipulator 101.
In the united States, we have the selfishness and narcissism of young people who don't want to skip Spring Break and party on the beach before coming home and redistributing generously the virus among their families. The youngest among us are also those with the less symptoms and I hope they'll think twice before kissing their grand-mother. As, in a recent post, I spoke about this possible tendency, for older persons, to worry more and feel bitterness, I can as well have all generations hate me, telling that there are negative people of all ages.
And freedom, this right this country holds dear shouldn't be a right to be selfish.
Because those of us with a conscience know that our freedom stops where the others' begins.
We witness also, in the same country, the most extraordinary protests of negative people: a collective of Trump fans who protest in compact groups during a pandemic, against the closing of shops and stay at home orders. In the name of extreme individual freedom, the one that has no respect whatsoever for others' and is just selfishness in disguise. What I find interesting is that what I've seen written the most on their placards, is a demand to go to the hairdresser, which is plain shameless narcissism. The faces are scary masks of hatred and anger, the talk without any empathy, nor ambiguity: "these people will die anyway". No matter the number of deaths among others, as long as I can have my my my haircut. A speedy class on the sense of priority of negative people.
The most odious is when these people harass or insult medical staff that work day and night to save others, risking their mental and physical health. So, of course, there are also negative people among the medical staff, - I've been raised among them, I should know - but I can't imagine the anguish and sadness for the positive ones among them who work to save others. The horror.
The manipulator, the negative one, reveals himself in time of crisis.
And I think about my fellow good people who take risks to help others, without judging or condemning those who wouldn't be as exceptional. For example, this doctors who will maybe have to cure some of these protesters with nice haircuts who spit on them the previous day.
I think about my fellow empaths who, as well as having to fight against their own stress and fear, will be enclosed with a negative person focused on draining their energy. Who will suck them, and unload on them and generally show the whole range of his toxicity off.
The only good side of this is to have to toxic ones reveal themselves. Also their values and influence on a world and a destructive economy.
And when the worst will have gone, they will have learned nothing and won't have changed.
We will have to be the ones to learn from it and fix the mess.

Will my insurance go up?
Earlier today at around 7pm I was in my first car accident. I just got my license a month ago and I am 16. Anyways, I was at a red light and the turning lane had a green light but my lane ( going straight ) was red. I was the first in my lane and some guy in a brand new mustang smashes into the back of my car ( 2003 Lexus ES 300 if that helps any ). The airbags didnt deploy but I did hit my head and my neck kind of hurts. My mom was the passenger and told me to deal with it because she just got out of the hospital. The first thing I noticed was he was exiting the maps app on his phone when he got out of the car. Maybe he was on his phone when he hit me? Anyways, the other driver and I exchanged insurance cards and licenses and I noticed he was from Maryland and we are in California. The car was a rental and he didnt mind if I reported it. Now, here are my questions. Why didnt the airbags go off if I was hit? ( I was in neutral btw because I read that it saves gas ) and if I report this accident will my insurance go up even if it wasnt my fault?""

Can someone help me figure out how to get car insurance?? Very confused :(?
This is my first time ever getting a car loan, making payments & getting insurance by myself & so far it's been frustrating & confusing!! If anyone could help steer me in the right direction it'd be much appreciated! --I'm originally from Arkansas. I moved to North Dakota with my man, got a job & started vehicle hunting. One of my friends up here, also from AR, had a truck close to getting on the repo list because he couldn't make payments anymore. This truck is registered in AR. So, I got a loan & bought his truck from him. I got this loan Oct 4th, a month ago. All I'm trying to do is register this truck, pay sales tax & get insurance. I understand I'm not ever getting the title but my bank will & when I explained that the title hadn't been sent to my bank yet, the dmv lady said I couldn't even get temporary tags?? Can I get insurance with the truck not being registered yet?? If it's not officially mine bc the title hasn't been sent to my bank. ???""

I am sick, and I rely on family health insurance to pay for my treatment, which my dad pays for. But eventually I will have to pay for my own health insurance. What I've gathered from what I've read about it is that you are usually not eligible for many types of health-insurance if you have a pre-existing condition. What does this mean, though? Does that mean that because of my illness, I will not be eligible to get insurance? How do other sick people get insurance? Forgive my stupidity, no one has ever tried to teach me these things.""

Finding the cheapest health insurance to waive school health insurance?
Hello, My college requires that each and every student have health insurance or else they will put you on the school's health insurance - which costs $500 a semester. I've been trying to find an insurance company/plan that meet the requirements to waiver the school's health insurance. Does anyone know a cheap health insurance company/plan in Colorado that meets these requirements? 1. Outside plan must have an annual deductible of $1,500 or less (if it's a family plan, members must have an individual deductible of $1,500 or less). 2. Outside plan must be a Comprehensive Health Insurance Plan that covers medical care for both Injury and Illness, including outpatient AND inpatient medical services. (Non-Comprehensive policies such as Injury, Diagnosis, Cancer, Hospitalization or Catastrophic only plans DO NOT COMPLY). 3. Outside plan must have Mental Health Care Coverage that includes both inpatient and outpatient benefits that have the following minimum levels: Inpatient -- coverage of at least $10,000 or 45 days, Outpatient -- coverage of at least $1,000 or 20 visits.""

Why do insurance companies base rates on credit?
Illness hurt our family financially but we recovered and are on the credit mend. Funny thing is we have never missed an insurance payment - nor have we lapsed policies. We have been steady insurance users for 19+ years now. Our driving records and insurance record is also clean. Why is it fair for insurance companies to use credit against you - when they can't possibly know the circumstances.

Financed a car- car insurance went WAY up?
My husband and I recently sold our old car and financed a used low mile 2007 ford fusion. Our car insurance previously was around 60 dollars a month, now it's over $200.00. The reason our rate increased was our finance company requires certain insurance (comprehensive and collision) that we didn't have before. My question is, do we have to keep this insurance on the car throughout the financing period? They sprang this little tidbit on us right before we signed. We tried to get financing three weeks ago and suceeded, but the person working with us went out sick with swine flu and no one from the bank let us know. We ended up calling last week and they put us with someone else/ It put us in a time crunch since my husband was leaving for Naval OCS the next day. If we have to pay it, it's not a big deal, but we're a young couple and it's money we could be putting towards our student loans.""

Car Insurance for Tourists?
I bought a new car in Germany. It is insured through its manufacturer. I then left Germany and went to another country to work and live. Since I wanted to keep the car, I drove it to my new home! For the first 3 months (I am told) I am still insured as a Tourist. But I wonder... Say I have an accident in this new country, we exchange insurance details, etc... Where should the other driver go to get his compensation and file his claim? Has anyone ever had an accident with, say even, a rental car from another country and found out that they live elsewhere and . . . How should one deal with this situation where there might even be language barriers between the two drivers and the forms they have to fill in? Thanks in advance

17 Year Old Insurance Question..?
What would be the average cost to insure any type of vehicle to a 17 year old foreign male (has no SSN, on a special permit VISA to live in the states)? I have around 12k to spend on the car, so i was looking at a few cars and the 2002 Audi TT (225hp, 6 speed M/T, 2-door sports coupe) seems to be the best car i can get with that money. Now ofcourse, i don't know what the fees are going to be like and it doesn't help that im a foreign student living here because my dad moved here, don't have a SSN/greencard etc (i have a special permit VISA for residence). will this impact my insurance a lot since im not a citizen of the U.S.? and so..how much would it really cost to insure an Audi TT as a 17 year old, honor role student who will complete the driver safety course, have same insurance as family policy, most likely be accident free (for state farm insurance) and have completed the steer clear driver's discount program? and some other general questions, what would be the difference in insurance premiums if instead i chose a 4-door sedan like a Honda Civic (2005)? I tried getting quotes from State Farm (said i was 18 instead), they got me at hte basic plan for $350/month for 2002 Audi TT and $375/month for a Civic 2005. Anyways to reduce that (those prices were with most discounts except the family plan)?""
