I have very complicated feelings for the Vengeance Saga (after the first listen)
Disclaimer: I will only criticize Epic the Vengeance Saga as a work on its own, not for its inaccuracy or deviation from mythology and The Odyssey. There are more knowledgable people who can point out and analyze the changes in Epic the Musical, but that is not what I'll be tackling here.
To put it bluntly, I'm not being angsty about it as I should. The whole saga just... didn't feel right with me.
Now, first off all, I'm a big fan of Epic and had been following it since the Cyclops saga (first version). I've been in love with many songs and hyperfixed it for months on end. But when the Vengeance saga came along, I didn't feel that same bubbling love rise in me.
Even as a fan, this isn't my first time having peeves with Epic. I didn't jam with the re-release sagas for a while, I'm underwhelmed with the Circe VS Odysseus fight and other issues, very unpopular opinion but "Monster" wasn't too impactful to me, and also the God Games (especially Zeus' attack).
The Vengeance Saga though? Well, they say we gotta do the Bun-Meat-Bun (or whatever the hell its name really is) technique when giving criticism, so I'll start with the good parts.
I love that Odysseus looked so done with Calypso in "Not Sorry For Loving You". They're basically this meme:
Like sorry you're a sad but you're still an abuser 😒
Then Odysseus starts singing the reprise for "Full Speed Ahead" but there's no one to back him up. That one hits me hard. To whoever on Tumblr said that after the Thunder Saga we will never hear the crew's back-up again and Odysseus' singing will be answered with silence, Apollo really blessed you with the red ball.
Hermes and the Winions' part was really cool too! I really like them being mischievous helper! The warning about the wind bag and the changing scene of Odysseus fighting off sea monsters while Hermes just vibing with the beats is 👌👌👌
But after that the hype started to sizzle out for me. You might want to skip this part if you're not comfortable with harsh criticism because I WON'T hold back.
It's really backward but I like the Odysseus VS Charybdis draft more than the final production. Charybdis' roars and music are somehow less intimidating, which is a shame because I thought this would be one of the biggest struggles Odysseus will face. Even with awesome illustrative animatics, the scene wasn't as thrilling as I've expected.
The other songs got massive improvement from its draft version (on top of my mind I can think of "Thunder Bringer", "There Are Other Ways", "Little Wolf"), but I don't get why "Charybdis" didn't get up-graded as much like them. It's like a cake that was throughly baked but half decorated and it just didn't taste as good as I've hoped.
Then we have the Odysseus VS Poseidon part in "Get In The Water" and "Six Hundred Strikes". The first thought I had for GITW is this song sounds like all the draft snippets were mashed together without a smooth transition/connection between them. Jorge and Steven's performance is great, but there's not enough tension for me to dread for Odysseus. When Poseidon first met Odysseus in "Ruthlessness", the whole opening was terrifyingly good! And we didn't even have any illustration animatic back then! (that's not to say the GITW animatics were bad, they just can't salvage much when the song itself was already weak)
I wasn't impressed with Poseidon's Shatter The Ocean move either. It's supposed to be the Strongest AttackTM but it's less scary than when he and the Laestrygonians destroyed Odysseus' eleven ships with probably 1% of their power. It didn't even help when Poseidon looked like he's having a seizure with lights pouring out of his eyes and mouth during the transformation.
Odysseus being literally on the brink of death with the souls of his loved ones pulling him into the abyss is a gem in the rough, but because we've seen Odysseus almost drowning before in the end of the Thunder Saga, it's not as shocking as it should be. Furthermore, Poseidon could have instant-killed Odysseus right then and there but didn't really annoyed me. But I guess he just wanted Odysseus to slowly suffer while dying.
Right when I thought the progress will get better, it... gets down. I can go with Odysseus using wind to escape the water, but him wearing it like a jetpack is so comical it ruined the drastic of the situation. And I'm officially let down when Odysseus FUCKING ATTACKED Poseidon in "Six Hundred Strike".
What? Just... why with that choice?
Look, I'm not gonna fault Epic for making creative liberties from the source material (as said in the disclaimer), but I will criticize if that change contradict itself in the transformative work. And this is one of them.
Poseidon and the gods have been proven time and time again in the musical just how powerful they are. Their ominous and grandiose entrances, them striking fear and inferiority in our hearts just by singing. Even Circe, a low-level goddess, poses a constant threat to the crew and Odysseus had to get help from Hermes just to get a chance to corner her (and Hermes even joked that he can still die!)
Poseidon easily destroyed almost all of Odysseus' fleet. Odysseus was very avoidant of him, opting to go to the literal Underworld to find instruction on how to dodge him and sailing through Scylla's lair + willing to sacrifice six men for safe passage. And when Poseidon said he can drown all of Ithaca, it's not just bluffing, he would and could have done that. Yeah, the King of the Sea is THAT BIG of a threat.
So no, Odysseus isn't cool to attack Poseidon, he's being stupid. I'm not even cheering for him the whole time he fight, just groaning at how ridiculous the whole thing is. If Epic is more believable and sticks to WHAT IT HAD ESTABLISHED BEFORE, having a sudden burst of anger and choosing ruthlessness won't save Odysseus from one swipe of Poseidon's trident. Odysseus stood no chance against one of the most powerful deity, even if he's the protagonist and love his family.
Not only that, Poseidon didn't even defend himself and was wounded by a mere human! And he just sat there and took all the blows and insults from Odysseus??? And he actually begged Odysseus to stop and agree to quell the storm to let him get home??? I'm not buy that bullshit. I'm more upset that a literal Olympian god was nerfed down than Odysseus having a Gary Stu moment. Give me a break, that try-hard moment to be cool and edgy just show how badly written the scene is.
What's the fucking point of hyping up how dangerous the gods are if a human can take one down? Tell me this isn't some Wattpad-y Greek myth retelling fanfic where the teenage Y/N sass her way to defeat an entire pantheon. Epic really traded its opportunity to be better for some cheap and out-of-the-blue dramas in this saga, dare I say it's even worse than Zeus' OOC attack on Athena. I'm very disappointed with that decision.
On an end note, the saga did have one saving point with the "After everything you've done, how will you sleep at night?" - "Next to my wife" lines. Odysseus knew he could be the most horrendous man ever and Penelope would still choose his side, that just show how powerful their love and faith in each other are.
But not enough to excuse all the terrible cinematic choices.
#epic the musical#epic the vengeance saga#jorge rivera herrans#song analysis#song review#my reviews#my ramblings#Spotify#Youtube#The Pen explodes with ink#after being let down with Zeus and Poseidon's OOC thing#i now have lower hopes for the Ithaca Saga#i guess at least there aren't any more “evil gods” to be ruined#let's just see how it goes#but seriously what's happening to Epic??? it was so good until Love in Paradise#and i feel like the musical is now on a downward slope#am i expecting too much?!

I do love how in the Odyssey you spend the first four books following Telemachus, hearing with him from everyone else how great and wonderful Odysseus is, and how tragic it is that he isn't there. You hear from Nestor and Menalaus and Helen, and even Athena and those left at Ithica are building Odysseus up as a great hero. The reader gets an idea of who he is and a sense of the pressure of Missing Legacy To Uphold for Telemachus.
And then we follow Hermes to Calypso's Island and still no Odysseus while Hermes and Calypso hang for a bit. And finally we meet the titular hero almost 5 books in, and the very first thing he's doing is weeping on the beach.
Which is such a facinating--and, to our modern ear, kind of funny, since tears arent """manly""" "hero" behaviour--juxtaposition of Great Hero vs man crying on the beach, and I love it so much. It instantly changes him from a hero of renown, a huge legendary figure Telemachus could never live up to, to a man who just wants to go home.
#wren rambles#the odyssey#Odysseus#telemachus#desperate to pick apart telemachus' part in the story#because hes SO IMPORTANT#just that. arc of missing father->legacy to uphold->finally meeting him#and the way people keep telling him to be like Orestes#ahhhh#the THEMES#ALSO from a storytelling perspective the formating here is WONDERFUL#because weve spent a decent chunk of time hearing about Odysseus through the eyes of his friends and comraids#and like telemachus likely have built up an image of him#so to have his very first act in the whole story be CRYING is raaahahh#and he cries SO MUCH in the story

Zeus vs Odysseus
Ok, what if we accept the version that Athena was really killed by her father, who according to the Odyssey will send Hermes to save Odysseus. Let's assume that he first started talking to his guy, not Calypso, and told about what happened to Athena. And at this point Ithaca can wait, Odysseus sees red.
Generally, I was inspired by the rage from the wip song for Epic "King", and the rhythm for this text is from Hamilton. Oh, right, I forgot. The lyrics of the "song" that are in all arts are completely made up by me. So completely my fantasy, I just want Zeus to regret what he did lol. ...
Oh yes, Ody is holding an owl feather because, you know, owls are Athena's main attribute. Have a nice day everyone.

So I have been thinking about the Wisdom Saga, obviously. I had some thoughts that I wanted to share. Sorry for the angst. Spoilers for the Wisdom Saga.
So we all know that Hermes is going to be the one to get Odysseus off of Calypso's Island while Athena is recovering? dead?. After having begged Athena to help him at the end of Love in Paradise.
Odysseus must have some complex feelings towards that. No doubt, he is relieved to finally get the chance to go home or die trying after seven years of being trapped there, stuck with his own guilt and grief. On the other hand, he knows that Hermes is there only for his own amusement really. Yes, he helped with Circe, but he straight up told Odysseus that this might fail and he would die and made it clear he really couldn't care less. Not to mention, Hermes is a trickster god archetype. Odysseus likely will listen to Hermes despite all that because any chance, no matter how slim, is worth listening to Hermes. Also, he knows better than to piss off another god.
Odysseus also doesn't know that Athena got extremely hurt? killed? to free him as she didn't speak to him or any indication that she had heard and was going to respond to his prayer and help free him. Hermes might mention it to Odysseus, but based on what little I know about Dangerous so far, Hermes won't, and ultimately, it makes sense as Hermes has met Odysseus This isn't Apollo coming to help with a throw away line like "Oh, I wanted to see the mortal that Athena risked her life to help" that would at least clue Odysseus in on Athena being responsible for his freedom. Odysseus wouldn't even ask about Athena as, for as far as he knows, Athena is still pissed at him and ignoring him.
If Hermes did tell Odysseus, imagine his reaction. First, it will depend on how much he knows. Does he know that she went against Zeus for him or that she was just responsible. If he knew that she went against Zeus and suffered greatly? died? imagine what that would do to his survivors guilt. He has already caused so much pain to those he cared about. His son had to grow up without a father. His wife is running a kingdom and likely filled with grief. His mother died waiting for him to get home. He got his entire crew killed either directly or indirectly. Then his mentor, the one who scorned his friendship, put herself in danger for him and suffered/died for him. If Odysseus only knows that she was the reason but not what Athena did, he'll likely be both glad and hurt. He'd be glad that she had heard his prayers and that she chose to aid him. Hurt that she was too proud to face him and didn't come to him herself. I think this one would be the easiest version for their relationship to repair.
Now, if he doesn't know, he'll probably be mad at Athena for abandoning him when he truly needed her. Her would be resigned as he knows he screwed up by not listening to her and likely thinks that there is no repairing their relationship. There is also anger at himself for allowing himself to believe that Athena would come to his aid after she made it clear in My Goodbye that she didn't really care about Odysseus and wanted nothing more to do with him.
Now, in the Odyssey, Athena disguised Odysseus as a beggar so that he could kill the suitors. Epic of course, is its own work, and this moving forward part depends if Athena is dead. (I know Calypso says goddesses can't die but remember she is talking to a mortal who has no divine abilities or divine aid vs the king of the gods fighting hisi daughter) Hermes really could fit this role as he is a trickster god. If Athena helps well, that is where it gets interesting.
Odysseus wouldn't refuse her help. As he knows not to piss of the gods and he at least kind of knows Athena's intentions. I don't see Athena mentioning the risk that she put herself in for Odysseus. She is prideful. I doubt that she would be willing to admit that she had been beaten by Zeus for Odysseus. I don't see either of them bringing it up. I imagine that Odysseus would be bitter now that she is helping when he had previously begged her for her help, and as far as he knows got nothing from it. However, he won't have any allies, and Ithaca has changed since he has left, so he won't refuse her aid. I doubt their relationship would ever truly recover.
Now imagine when Odysseus finds out that Telemachus made friends with Athena. On one hand he would be relieved. He would be glad that at least someone was looking out for his son when he couldn't (also a little bitter that he couldn't be the one protecting Telemachus). On the other hand, imagine how it must feel to have his friendship with Athena dismissed, where as far as he knows, she only saw him as her student, not a friend. That his son got to have that relationship with her. That she was so quick to replace him with someone else. Imagine Odysseus wondering where he went wrong to not get that same relationship from her that he had wanted.

Day After Thoughts on the Vengeance Saga
I was super hyped for the Vengeance Saga, as I am with every saga release, but after sitting with it and digesting a bit, I think Epic act 2 overall is having a pacing issue. (This is going to be super long)
Like here's the thing: the Thunder Saga? Perfection, absolutely nailed it. And then we get into the wisdom Saga, which — although I thoroughly enjoyed it— had something about it that felt off. Now with the vengeance saga I'm realizing that act 2 just doesn't feel long enough.
I loved God Games, but it felt like Athena won the gods over too easily. Hearing the snippets got me hyped, and then in context of the song, I realized those snippets being the whole verse for each god felt too quick. Most of the wisdom saga is paced alright, at least for me, but that last song has been hyped up since the planning stages, and it's a really important moment! A little more back and forth with the gods would have shown just how much getting Ody free meant to Athena.
Now I'm not just saying this because Wangui's vocals are heavenly— we desperately needed more Calypso. It makes me sad because I know Jorge had another song with Odysseus and Calypso that he cut, and I think it would have added so much had it stayed in to the final album. Ody has been trapped with her for seven years, and we see him hit his limit in Love in Paradise, but for the audience that limit is hit immediately. We aren't given enough time to really see Odysseus get desperate, Calypso not understand his needs and wants, and her trying and failing to win over a faithful married man. Because the thing is, now we get to Not Sorry for Loving You, and Calypso is absolutely broken over losing Odysseus. Why? Did she fall in love with him at first sight, or did they talk and she fell deeper in love with him the longer he was there, all while he tried to push her away? That "let me speak" moment stands out to me because of this too. Without the context of seeing those seven years, I'd assumed all Odysseus did was let Calypso speak, because what else can he do with a goddess? So is that the case and she's just being controlling here, or did she truly feel like Odysseus hadn't listened to her during their time together. Idk. It doesn't feel earned and it does a disservice to her character. Plus more Wangui wouldn't hurt. Oh the Calypso saga we could've had...
Then we get Dangerous which, I don't have many notes that song hurt me and then was funky. I love Hermes, moving on.
Charybdis felt underwhelming to me, I feel like it ended too soon. Which could very well be the point, I had just gotten hyped off of the snippets and felt the final battle wasn't as impactful as I'd been expecting it to be. The ending destroyed me though, Jorge did an amazing job there, knew exactly how to stomp on my heart.
Get in the Water was the other song besides Scylla that I had been waiting the entire musical to get to, and I think it was executed almost perfectly, I really have no notes there either.
Six Hundred Strike....oh Six Hundred Strike. It was epic, it was chilling....but the first half just does not fit into the rest of the show musically. I'm mostly talking about once the six hundred men chant starts up. I love Aeolus' theme being used as an instrument, like I actually adore it so much, but those dang drums... For me it shoots straight past "this is a boss fight so this is a video game reference" into "this is Poseidon's boss theme for the Epic fighting game". That part of the song is the first time I've really said to myself "I can't see this on stage". Especially considering where Get in the Water ends musically, this just feels really jarring to me. I actually don't have any problem with Odysseus stabbing Poseidon. This isn't a mortal vs a god anymore, this is a monster vs a god, and a monster that god created at that. I think to make it feel less overpowered though, it could've been fixed with Poseidon saying "alright, fine" instead of "alright, please" to get Ody to stop. Then it would've been less that he was begging and more that he was annoyed and just wanted to be rid of him and never deal with him again. Same with his line delivery of "after everything you've done, how will you sleep at night?". I almost would've liked to hear him laughing there, like in disbelief, or in a mocking tone, only for Odysseus to shut him up with "next to my wife". The wing bag jetpack is also too funny for me to take seriously so I'm gonna ignore that for my own personal head canon.
I love epic and I hope the Ithaca Saga sticks the landing. I'm just dumping my thoughts after last night lmao

I've seen a LOOOT of beef between the situations of Calypso and Circe and their relationships with Odysseus in epic vs the book, so here are my thoughts (it's okay to disagree, pls have a respectful convo in the comments)
Okay so just a heads up I have not read any translations of the Odyssey (yet). I am slowly churning through the illiad and will get to it once I'm done, for now my opinion comes from what snippets I've read from the book and other fans descriptions
So, to start. While Odysseus never was with Circe in the musical, in the books he HAD to sleep with her be hermes' warning. If he didn't his men would be pigs forever. It wasn't an act of love, it was an exchange.
Now, Calypso is where it gets a bit messier. While it open ended in the musical, It was clear that ody was FORCED to be with her. From most translations, it seems that ody was SAed by her for those seven years, it was NOT cheating. I'm sorry but I don't think there is any scenario where Odysseus willingly sleeps with Calypso
Anyways, that was a long But I think important ramble . What are your thoughts on this issue? (Remember to be respectful, no hate, this is just a thousand year old story and we can have our own thoughts on it)

YugiohxEpic! The Musical Story Idea
Just listen to me closely as I go down this rabbit hole and drag ya'll with me! I am wanting to write a crossover. A chapter for each song, but instead of it as a song, just a drabble. I created a list of characters and I have two ideas for some changes vs what I originally wanted. I'm gonna post the ideas under the keep reading and I would love opinions on it. I will also add the reasoning behind the characters and why I want them as that way. Again I would LOVE opinions and thoughts as this is my first crossover of anything like this and also me trying to dive back into the realm of writing. I figured adding my love for this musical(all musicals lol), Yugioh, and writing, this would help kickstart me and encourage myself to do better.
Epic the Musical characters and the Yugioh Character counterparts. WARNING IT'S A LONG READ! You don't need to read it if you are not interested LOL
Odysseus: Pharaoh Atemu. (This is the OBVIOUS choice!) Penelope: Yugi or OC. (I want to do the puzzleshipping and I want Yugi to be the tough badass character that Penelope is! The other option is a random female character(oc or if we can find a character that fits) ) Telemachus: OC or Yugi. (If we don't do Yugi as Penelope then I want him as Atemu's son...because I said so! If not then Yugi and Atemu have an adopted child that will be either named Telemachus or a name picked for him.) Zeus: Atum/Aknadin? (This one is tough for me. I want to do Atum from the Egyptian lore but I also think Aknadin would be a good "Zeus" cause of the hatred he has for Atemu yet he also follows some of the laws of Egypt(just doesn't like them all the time) ) Eurylochus: Priest Seto. (I want Seto as Eurylochus or Polites. I think he fits both! But I like the idea of what all happens in the plot of Epic and how Eurylochus is portrayed just fits Seto more then Mahad.) Polites: Mahad. (Just as with Seto I think he works great as both! Mahad's stotryline in Yugioh I think works great with how Polites goes in Epic. His death triggers a lot for Odysseus and same for Atemu and Mahad.) Athena: Mai. (This one is just too good to pass on. I want more Mai and she is a badass!) Aeolus: Mokuba. (I think the playfulness of Aeolus goes well with Mokuba. I also think more so the manga Mokuba from the original series is a "we can do that BUT..." just like Aeolus offered to Ody.) Poseidon: Bandit King Bakura. (Hatred...pure HATRED! It's perfect!) Circe: Tea. (This one was hard. I wanted Mai originally but then I was like, she has to be Athena, so I moved Tea to Circe. I just like the idea of Tea seducing Atemu, even though I am not a believer she was choosing him over Yugi, I do like that idea since it was my first ship.) Hermes: Pegasus. (This character was hard but I really like the idea of Pegasus taunting Atemu through out the songs like he does in the anime XD) Anticlea: Atemu's mom as a OC since she isn't canon. Tiresias: Shadi (I think that since he used the key to see into people's mind, I can see him seeing the future as well.) Sirens: Sirens are just that, Sirens lol. Scylla: Apep (Apep is a snake like creature of Chaos in Egyptian Mythology. So I thought that it fit well, but I am open to suggestions) Calypso: Mana. (She wants Atemu, she can't have him, cause he is in love with another. End of discussion lol) Apollo: Ryou (The reason is it's such a small role and I think he deserves that spot. Apollo's smile in fanart remind me of Ryou anyway) Hephaestus: Solomon. (Cause his words are always wise and I think he fits it lol) Aphrodite: Rebecca (Rebecca is trying to make "Yugi" hers so I see her as a seducer. So I thought why not!) Ares: Rafael (strong, angry at Atemu, and wants to fight. That is why lol) Hera: Isis (Isis wants to defend Atemu but she also needs to stay kinda chill so she encourages Mai to keep trying to convince her) Polyphemus: A cyclops. Needs no explanation!

Ancient Woman Thunderdome 2023
Round 3 Match 8: Hippolyta vs. Calypso!
The rules: Vote based on who would win in a fight, NOT who you like more. Consider factors such as physical prowess, intelligence or cunning, and magical ability.
If the character has multiple non-godly forms, consider the one you believe to be more powerful. If the character is a goddess for a portion of their life, please only consider their mortal or non-godly form.
The fighters:
Fighter: Hippolyta Source(s): Various mythological sources Bio: Hippolyta was a queen of the Amazons. For Heracles' ninth labor, he was supposed to steal her belt; Hippolyta gave him the belt, but then Hera tricked the Amazons into thinking Heracles was kidnapping her, and the Amazons attacked his ship. In some sources, Hippolyta died in the resulting conflict; in others, she wound up meeting and marrying Theseus and died later, in a conflict between the Amazons and Theseus.
Fighter: Calypso Source(s): Homer's Odyssey, various other mythological sources Bio: Calypso lived on the island Ogygia. When Odysseus landed on this island, Calypso wouldn't let him leave for seven years; finally, Hermes came to tell her to let him go, which she argued against on the grounds that she loved him. Although angry, she did provide Odysseus with the materials to build a raft, and gave him the wind to leave safely.

Epic x Demon Slayer AU
I’ve had this idea ever since I started properly following Epic the Musical this Jan and I just thought it would so interesting playing around with Obanai as Odysseus since they both have a similar conflict of man vs. monster! I just LIIIVE AND LOOOOVE the idea of Mitsuri being more like Penelope as well!
Odysseus: Obanai/Akaza Penelope: Mitsuri/Koyuki Telemachus: Tanjiro/? Eurylochus: Akaza/Obanai Polites: Kyojuro Athena: Amane Poseidon: Gyutaro Zeus: Muzan? Apollo: Hephaestus: Giyuu Aphrodite: Muichiro Ares: Sanemi Hera: Inosuke's mother? Hermes: Tengen Circe: Shinobu Calypso: Polyphemus: Gyutaro (an extension of him in the form of blood cyclopses?) Aeolus: Nezuko Winions: Zenitsu Lotus Eaters: Inosuke Scylla: Daki Antinuos: Douma Suitors: Gyokko, Hantengu, Enmu Tiresias: Gyomei Odysseus' mother: Ruka Rengoku (Obi and Kyo grew up together as brothers. Kyo and Ruka reunite in the underworld and they care for Astyanax together) Astyanax:
All the stories and plot points remain the same, and I would love to see all of y’all song-fic writers out there make your magic with incorporating Epic the Musical inside! Someone PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE take this idea and another one I have coming up off my hands because I have waaaay too many writing babies up for adoption (there’s more on my AO3 profile as well!)
If you do decide to take any of these AU ideas, you can definitely have your own spin on things and I would LOVE to see what y’all writers out there come up with!
For this specific AU, I’m not particular about crediting me since the characters aren’t mine to begin with, but there are some where I do ask for credit on my AO3 page as I did create the blend on my own!

IDEA RWBY but EPIC (epic the musical au) Main parring would have to be bumbleby with some frosensteel Blake as Odysseus and Yang as Penelope Ruby as Telemachus with Weiss as Eurylochus and Penny as Polities. I know incredibly painful, Eurylochus is married to Odysseus's sister so i played with that a bit. The guilt of knowing that you let your soulmates/love of your life's little sister lose both of the people who felt about her the same way that Blake feels about Yang must be unbearable. I think Salem as Zeus, Ozpin as Athena, and Ironwood as Poseidon, and Sun as Hermes Polyphemus as Adam, not just because he loses an eye but because I'm imagining Haven where Blake is being dramatic on the rooftop and then later when Blake decides to let him go, only for him to follow her. He may not follow her in the au but her decision to be merciful comes back to haunt her. Circe as Emerald, idk it just makes sense. She's been hurt before and doesn't want that to happen again so she puts on a brave mask to keep herself and the people she cares about from being hurt. Calypso is Ilia, I'm sorry, shes not as socially unaware of the pain she is causing Blake, but she also deeply loves Blake and wants to be loved back. Blake loves her back but not in the way that Ilia wants her to. Blake may not be as damaged as Odysseus was after spending 7 years with Ilia, but being stuck alone on an island with a person who loves you more than anything in the world but who you can't love back and constantly reminds you of the love that you are missing, still is pretty tough. For the suitors I'm imagining the main guy as Mercury, none of the guys in RWBY are as gross as the suitors are so I'm imaging that this is a power thing and Mercury sees this as the best way to gain it. I don't think Ruby likes him in the show very much so that carries over. Team CRDL is almost always used as villain guys so add them. I know there's Hazel and Tyrian, but I'm imagining Hazel as the prophet. I don't think Tyrian cares much for the role of king or relationships, so maybe a siren?
Since Blake and Ruby have similar ways of thinking, when one isn't depressed. And both are combat Geniuses (Blake really is, watch her close during fights, especially Adam vs BY)it makes since for Ozpin to take interest. Blake listens to Ruby and Penny's advice but eventually embraces the ruthlessness. Completely unaware that Blake has abandoned those ideals and that her partners are gone, but most likely dead, Ruby keeps up those same ideals in their memory cause she thinks that is what they would want. Ozpin after being upset for a few years finally starts looking for Blake again and starts believing in those same ideals, the ones that he may of had before, which Ruby still believes in and he decides to take Ruby under his training as he once did Blake. Ruby who had to stay inside a castle and city for over a decade would definitely sing 'Legendary' and want to be a hero, bonus she also looks up to her missing mom. Only difference is that Telemachus has no training while Ruby would wreck the floor with the suitors. And Ozpin would be nicer with Ruby then he was with Blake and hopefully Ruby would turn out to be the hero that Oz had wanted.
Reason why Ruby and Yang didn't go to war? They had to stay behind to keep their/Blake's kingdom safe. Blake had to go so did Weiss. Since Ruby would have Yang, Penny decided to go as well to keep the other two safe. Ruby would of gone but Blake had a talk with her that she was to young as well as the fact that if something happened to Blake then Yang would need Ruby. With Penelope being a Spartan I'm thinking that Yang and Ruby are as well, or at least partially so. I think when Blake makes it back Yang would see in her eyes how much Blake has been through. And despite how much Yang would just want to run to her and embrace her Yang is careful with her approach. She hear Blake talk about what she had to do to get home, the hell she went through, the sacrifices she made and the loved ones she lost, Blake says that they are a Monster. Yang says something about Blake and broken promises, and Blake being herself swears she would never break any promise that they had made. Yang replies with "We promised we would always love each other no matter what, and you are trying to tell me that I can't be in love with you anymore" and "You promised to stay and the Blake I fell in love with would never break that promise" as tears are rolling down her face. And Blake can just barely reply by saying Yang's name. And they embrace like its the first time and the last time, whispers of 'I love you' and 'I'm sorry'. Until they fall asleep in each others arms, prepared to never be apart from each other again.

Part 2, LGF! ^0^
Louis and Lestat as Odysseus and Penelope: Cursed by the gods for his hubristic pride (Alderman Fenwick/Poseidon) and for his unnatural diet (his men eating Helios' cattle-of-the-sun/vampirism), Loudysseus is lost at sea with no memory/knowledge how to get back home. His beloved spouse Penelope/Lestat languishes (in Ithaca/the dump); spinning yarns (Laertes' funeral shroud/"Long Face" double album) as "protection against the wolves" (the suitors/angry S3 vamps). Their child (Telemachus/Claudia) is forced to grow up alone in a toxic environment (the suitors/Theatre). During his "Odyssey of Recollection" he encounters monsters (1-eyed Polyphemus/the Revenant "how can he hunt with no eyes!?"), hallucinations (the Lotus Eaters & Sirens/DreamStat "Come to Me, you little wh*re~!"), and strange lands (Queen Arete in Phaeacia/Daciana in Eastern Europe). He goes to Hades/Hell to get directions (Tiresias/Raglan James), and finds the long-dead ghosts of his past (Elpenor/Paul & his mother Anticlea/Florence). He's deeply troubled, "I run to the grift...to the bottle...to bad beds," held captive by gods who overpower, gaslight, & mindwipe & rape him (Circe/Santiago/Tom Anderson, Calypso/Armand); before a powerful Olympian god orders that he be set free (Hermes/Daniel) "he directed the play!," "pieces of myself...coming back." Back home, Telemachus/Claudia is all grown up, and they team up to destroy everyone who desecrated his home (the suitors/The Trial). Penelestat & Lodysseus are reunited ("I came to thank you") and live happily ever after (Blood Communion). (We DO NOT acknowledge the Telegony sequel under my roof!)
Marius and Armand as Zeus and Ganymede: The prototypical archetypical blueprint of problematic yaoi age-gap eromenos/erastes classical paedophilic dubcon/noncon bodice-ripper love-as-rape/rapio (to seize, snatch, capture, carry off). 🫣🥵 Armand/Ganymede just minding his own business being pretty, when bored AF Zeus/Marius swoops in (as an eagle/on his gondola) to take (kidnap/"rescue") the boy and bring him to Olympus/the palazzo. His "Master", Zeus/Marius grooms the boy (Ganymede = Lat. Catamitus "catamite;" Amadeo = Lat. "Beloved of God") to be his lover and cupbearer/apprentice, much to the chagrin of everyone else (Olympians/Venetians). His wife Pandora/Hera is a hater, but she ain't wrong about Marius/Zeus! Ganymede/Armand is made an immortal boy (ambrosia & nectar/vampirism), and is relegated to a life of drudgery (cupbearer/Children of Satan's "fool for God/Satan").
Louis and Claudia as Deadalus and Icarus: DaedaLouis as the brilliant business savvy artiste too smart for his own good, Mr. Fire Escape, Mr. Cane-Sword; who attracts the wrong kind of attention when he's held captive by his patron (Minos/Lestat) and his batsh*t crazy wife (Pasiphae/Antoinette). Caged together in the labyrinth that used to be his pride & joy (1132 townhouse), he and his child (Icarus/Claudia) plan their big escape (Murder Plot / wax wings); only to for the child to fly too close to the sun (Icarus) /sunlight (Theatre) and die. U_U
Lestat and Claudia as Hera and Hephaestus: Angry that they keep being abandoned/neglected by their loved ones (Zeus/Gabrielle/Nicki), Hera/Lestat creates their own child through parthenogenesis. But the child is "a mistake" & "built like a bird" (Claudia); a misshapen disappointment (Hephaestus); so Hera/Lestat casts the child off (out of Olympus/Claudia's college years). The abandoned foundling is adopted by loving parents (Thetis/Louis), who encourage the prodigy's talents (underwater/volcanic craftsmanship/Emily Dickinson/European travels). Their talents are noticed and Claudia/Hephaestus are "welcomed" in a new community (return to Olympus/"Rule Number 5"/Theatre initiation), only to be publicly humiliated by them (cucked by Ares & Aphrodite/"chess games vs Lestat"/Baby LouLou), who cause them "misery with no horizon." Instead of being warmed by the thermal/volcanic forges (Hephaestus), Claudia dies in them (burned alive).
(Moral of these stories: Claudia always suffers more than Christ)
