Tumblr media
She brings you into a hug and then Gia’s door opens, “Awesome! You made pancakes!”
You wipe away your tears, “Of course I did, they’re your favorite.”
You and Gia sit down and your aunt wakes up Rue.
You were all sitting down eating it was like you had a family again.
A few weeks went by and everything was going well.
Rue introduced you to Jules and she introduced you to her friends and the next thing you know you had your own little friend group.
Even though they were in high school and you were 21 you acted like their mom and you didn’t mind that.
They invited you to a party. Since you didn’t have very many clothes on hand they decided to dress you up with their clothes.
Once they were done with you, you were ready to party. The party was a mix of high schoolers and college students.
Everyone was drinking and probably on various amounts of drugs but the party was alive.
You and the group were dancing, having an amazing time, you were slowing down panning around the room, and locked eyes with someone.
It was the guy from the mini-mart a couple of weeks ago.
You look away and ask Jules who the guy was.
“Oh, that’s Fezco or Fez. Why?”
“I saw him when I first got to town. Is he in your grade?”
“No. He’s a couple of years older than us, probably around your age. Are you crushing on him?” Jules said teasingly.
You laugh, “No. I don’t even know him.”
“You don’t have to know anyone to think they’re cute. So?”
“So what?”
“Do you think he’s cute?”
You begin to get flustered and Jules goes back to teasing you.
You laughed and went outside. The cool air hit your hot face and you calmed down a little bit.
The door opened and it was the guy, Fez, he nodded at you and you nodded back.
He took out a joint and lit it. He took a deep breath and looked at you asking if you wanted a hit, you nodded and took it from his hand, your fingers lightly grazed his and you could feel your face flush red.
You placed the lit joint between your lips and breathed in deep. You missed this feeling, the feeling of the high, the feeling of bliss flowing through your body. Now mixing that with a very cute guy in front of you was chef’s kiss.
You handed it back and he spoke up, “Your Rue’s cousin? Right?”
“Yup. And your Fez.”
“You’ve been asking about me?” A smile crept upon his face.
Again your face is flustered but you play it off all cool like, “Just some things here and there.”
“Like what?”
“Just your name and your age.”
“What? No social security?”
You laugh, “Well I was going to try to get that out of you myself.”
He smiles at you. His smile is in all honesty perfect. You couldn’t help but smile back.
He and you shared the joint a few more times and then you checked your phone. It was 3 a.m.
“Shit,” you say under your breath.
“What?” he asks.
“I have to get the girls back home before my aunt kills me.”
Before you walk back into the house he stops you, “Do you think I can get your number or something?”
“Sure,” you put your hand out and he hands you his phone, you type in your number and then put your name in,  💕Y/N💕. Maybe that was a little forward but you thought he was cute and nice, so why not try and put yourself out there?
You went back inside smiling and grabbed the girls and took them home.
Once you got Rue in her pajamas and took her make-up off you decided to do the same.
When you hopped in bed your phone dinged and you looked at your screen and there was a text from a number not saved, Fez.
His text was, “hey did you get home okay?”
“Yes, I did thank you for asking :)”
“Well, it’s late so I should let you go. Have a good sleep :)”
“You too :)”
You went to bed smiling.
When you woke up there was a text from Fez saying good morning. It made you giddy and smile.
You couldn’t stop smiling when you got to the table. Your aunt, Gia, and Rue were looking at you weirdly.
“What’s got you so happy?” your aunt asks.
“Oh she’s just happy because she’s texting a guy,” Rue said with a mouthful of cereal.
“A guy?” your aunt says surprisingly.
“He's just a friend,” you say, still obviously smiling.
“Okay, sweetie, well just sure your friend doesn’t get you pregnant.”
You all choke on your food, “Oh my god auntie,”
“Come on mom,” said Gia.
“I'm just saying, we don't need any babies walking around in here,” she said, sipping her coffee.
“Seriously auntie, I just met him last night and we’ve just been texting.”
Once everyone was done with breakfast they went on with their day, your aunt went to work, Gia was hanging out with her friends at the mall and Rue was with Jules at her house.
Even though you’ve been here for a couple of weeks you hadn’t been out to explore so you took Rue’s bike and went around town.
You rode with headphones in, you highly don't recommend, the ride was smooth besides getting catcalled by fuckboys in their big cars that try and mask their tiny dicks.
You ended up at a park and there were a vast amount of groups on the lawn. You found a tree that no one was occupying and laid under it. You were looking up at the sky and trying to make out objects in the clouds.
Movement came from the corner of your eye and when you looked over you had a big smile on your face.

Anonymous requested: Can I request a one bed trope for willex?
Oh, you absolutely can request that! I’m a sucker for this trope and I think this is my second time ever writing it (first for this fandom) so this was a lot of fun to get into. Thank you for the request, anon!
Champagne and Roses
Alex was never trusting Luke to book a hotel again. There was a reason Flynn handled admin for the band despite not being in it, and that reason was that all the actual bandmates were useless at it. Still, Luke had found a hotel that he had described as “super insane, like bro, it’ll be awesome, I promise” and had insisted on being the one to book it so nobody had the surprise of what was so good about it ruined for them. But it looked like Alex was set to reap the consequences.
Technically, Julie and the Phantoms were on tour, but what they were really using the opportunity for was something more akin to a road trip with just their nearest and dearest. Alex, Luke, Julie, and Reggie were there to attend their shows and meet-and-greets, Flynn had come along as their manager, but Carrie and Willie were also tagging along for the fun of it. So far they had stopped off at six different venues around North America, and they were on their way to the seventh, namely the hotel Luke was so pumped about.
He hadn’t stopped talking about it since they’d got in the tour bus the previous night, and it was starting to drive Alex a little insane. He was sat on one of the bus’s plush sofas with a cushion clamped over his ears as he tried to drown Luke’s voice out, but it wasn’t working all too well. Sat next to him, Willie was clearly trying not to laugh at him.
“I know I said I wouldn’t tell you guys anything about the hotel,” Luke was saying, the biggest grin plastered across his face, “but just wait until you see the pool. It’s gigantic, and there’s like a thousand slides. And Reggie, bro, you’re gonna love the breakfast buffet they set out, from the photos on their website it looks like they’ve got literally everything.”
“It sounds expensive,” Flynn called from the front seat, sat between Julie (who was taking her turn at driving the bus) and Carrie, who was somehow managing to paint her nails immaculately in a moving vehicle on the highway. “If you’ve blown the band’s budget on a hotel, Luke Patterson, I’m going to hop back there and murder you.”
“It wasn’t that expensive,” Luke said, looking sheepish. Still, Flynn’s threat shut him up a little – Alex decided it was probably better not to ask how much Luke had spent on the booking. “Besides, I saved money by booking shared rooms instead of individual ones.”
That grabbed Alex’s attention. If ever they were away as a band they shared rooms – Alex would buddy up with Luke and Reggie, and Julie and Flynn would be together – but this time there were two extra people in the mix, and Alex didn’t really see how it would work having Willie and Carrie share a room when they hardly spoke to each other outside of this kind of setting.
“Who’s with who?” Alex asked, removing the cushion from his ears and setting it down next to him. A moment later, Willie reached across Alex’s midriff, plucked the pillow from the sofa, and put it behind his own head, laying back comfortably. Alex’s pretended that he wasn’t blushing profusely at the brief touch.
“Well, we can probably change it if we want to once we get there, but I’m with Julie, Flynn and Carrie are together, Reggie’s got a room to himself, and you’re with Willie.”
Alex had no idea how to react. The moment Luke had spoken, his mind had imploded. At every other hotel they’d stayed at so far, everyone had got their own room, purely to give themselves some alone time because they were spending every minute of every day together on the tour and it could get a little suffocating. To go from that to sharing a room with Willie of all people?
Luke had to have known what he was doing. He knew how Alex felt about Willie, so this plan had to have been formed in the deep dark corner of his brain that was designated for doomed matchmaking. It wasn’t like Alex had never shared a room with Willie before, but they had always chosen to, it had never been forced upon them like this. He couldn’t help but wonder what Willie made of it, if his heart was hammering the same way Alex’s was, if the thought of sharing a room made him giddy and nauseous all at the same time too.
He cast a quick, careful glance in Willie’s direction, only to see that his expression had remained completely unchanged, which was unhelpful. Complete neutrality could mean anything. Still, Alex supposed it was better than Willie looking annoyed or disgusted or downright angry at the thought of sharing a room together.
This was silly, Alex told himself. He had shared a room with Willie before, they’d had the occasional sleepover and it had always been lovely. There was no reason that this time should be any different. He tried to calm himself, school his features into something resembling nonchalance.
“Alex,” Reggie said, sounding concerned, “are you feeling travel-sick again? You look like you’re about to vomit all over Willie.”
Apparently nonchalance hadn’t worked.
Alex seized the opportunity. “A little bit of fresh air might be nice,” he said.
Julie pulled over a minute or so later and Alex hopped out of the tour bus. They had pulled off the highway a while back and were now on a much smaller road lined with tall hedges and completely deserted except for their bus. Alex let a gentle wind wash over his flushed face, closed his eyes, and let himself calm down a bit.
It would be fine.
“Hey,” came a voice behind him, startling him. Alex jumped and looked to see Willie stood beside him, his hair blowing elegantly behind him. Not for the first time, Alex wondered how he managed to look like an angel constantly. “You okay?”
“Yeah,” Alex replied, trying to smile. “The roads were getting a little twisty. I’ll just take a minute to cool off. I’m fine, though.”
He leaned back against the cool metal of the tour bus and felt Willie do the same. He could feel Willie’s side pressed against his and his heart starting beating faster at the slight contact. Their fingers brushed gently together and Alex felt a smile tugging at his lips.
“If you don’t want to share a room with me, that’s fine,” Willie said. He rushed the words out as if he didn’t really want to say them, avoiding eye contact until he’d finished speaking. Then he turned to look at Alex – Alex was bad at reading expressions at the best of times, and all he could make out of Willie’s right then was something close to nervousness. He just couldn’t pinpoint why.
“No,” he assured Willie quickly, “I don’t mind. I do. I do want to share with you, I mean. It’s cool. We’re cool.”
“You sure?” Willie asked, sounding unconvinced. “Because the moment Luke mentioned it you freaked.”
Alex felt himself blush faintly. “No, I told you, it was just the roads getting too twisty. I’m not worried about sharing with you, if that’s what you think.”
“So we’re okay?”
“Of course.”
“Great,” Willie said. He beamed, and Alex couldn’t help but smile back. It was impossible not to smile when Willie did. “I’m going to head back onto the bus. Take as long as you need – I don’t think any of us want to clean up after you again.”
“That was one time and it was four years ago,” Alex protested, though he couldn’t help but smile at Willie’s teasing. At that, any nerves he’d had were gone; how could he be worried about being with Willie when doing just that was so easy? “I’ll come back in a minute.”
As Willie disappeared back onto the bus, Alex closed his eyes and leaned his head back again. His panic was replaced with butterflies in his stomach, silly with excitement at the thought of what the night might hold. Not much, he reminded himself, it was just sharing a room with a friend. Still, he suddenly couldn’t wait.
To Luke’s credit, the hotel was amazing. They arrived there in the late afternoon, checked in, and had their luggage taken up to their rooms for them, leaving them free to explore the hotel. The pool looked bigger than the actual building, with six different slides, people zooming out of them gleefully every few moments. They found the restaurant, which was currently preparing for dinner, and the smells wafting from the kitchen were to die for. There were bikes to hire (Julie suggested a group bike ride which led to mixed responses from the others, ranging from Reggie’s immediate enthusiasm to Carrie stating monotonously that she’d rather do literally anything else), an enormous duck pond nearby, and a small cinema which that night was showing some generic action film Alex had never heard of. Overall, Luke had really outdone himself with the booking.
They busied themselves for the rest of the evening, splashing about in the pool (or, in the case of Alex, Willie, and Carrie, relaxing by the side of the pool on the sun-loungers) and spending far too long in the mini arcade that Reggie had stumbled across. Luke hadn’t been wrong about the food either – the staff set out an enormous buffet that had every food Alex could think of. Alex tried to stick to a regular meal because mixing so many different foods felt strange, but Luke’s plate was piled with pizza, curry, and a slab of chocolate cake.
The evening had been so hectic and jam-packed that by the time Alex and Willie bade farewell to the others, he had almost forgotten all his whirring thoughts surrounding the shared room. But by then he was too full and tired to be too bothered anyway. It was just sharing a room with Willie – what could go wrong?
Willie pushed open the door to room seventy-three and entered ahead of Alex, flicking the lights on as he went. Alex was exhausted and his vision slightly blurred as his eyes kept closing, but he could still make out that this room was nothing short of luxurious. There were chocolates on the pillow, complementary tea and biscuits, a bottle of champagne cooling in a bucket of ice, a vase of roses, a flat-screen TV so big it looked as if it would fall off the wall, and a gorgeous king-size bed with rich red satin sheets.
It took Alex far too long to realise that there was something a little off.
He looked around again. Chocolate pillows, tea, biscuits – that was fine, that was normal. Flat-screen TV – expensive, but every hotel room he’d ever stayed at had a television. But champagne, roses, only one bed… Alex felt the pieces click in his mind.
“This is a couples room,” he said.
He was never letting Luke book a hotel ever again.
Willie looked just as bewildered as Alex felt. They had both frozen in the doorway when they saw the room, but now Willie headed in cautiously, picking up the champagne and one rose as if trying to work out whether they were real. He smoothed down the bedsheets, not that they were rumpled, and then turned back to Alex. His expression was infuriatingly neutral and hard to read again.
“Yep,” he agreed, “definitely.”
Alex carefully followed him into the room and looked around. Those old nerves about sharing a room with Willie came back – if they had to share this space then surely it was going to be incredibly awkward. Especially since they weren’t even dating.
“Do you think there’s been some sort of mix-up?” he asked, eyeing the singular bed. It looked invitingly comfortable, and Alex was knackered. He wanted nothing more than to just crawl in and sleep beside Willie as the room was clearly telling them to do. But he couldn’t do that, not if Willie wasn’t comfortable with it, not if there had been a mistake.
“I don’t know,” Willie said, shrugging. “It’s definitely the right room, otherwise the key wouldn’t have worked. I could go and ask at reception if there’s a different room, if you like? With two beds?”
There was something in the way Willie said it that caught Alex’s attention, but he couldn’t identify what it was. But he could see that Willie was watching him carefully, looking for all the world like all he wanted was to make sure the night went well. He thought, Alex realised with a start, that Alex wouldn’t want to share a bed with him. It nearly made Alex laugh, but his nerves stopped him.
He did want to share the bed, but the idea terrified him.
He shrugged, trying to seem indifferent. “If you want. It’s up to you, I don’t mind.”
“You sound like you mind,” Willie countered.
“I don’t.”
They stared at each other for a minute or two, sizing one another up. Alex didn’t want to seem like the idea of sharing a bed with Willie made him uncomfortable, but equally he didn’t want to seem too eager. He wasn’t sure what the middle ground was – indifference maybe? But if he seemed like he didn’t care at all then it could look like he simply didn’t feel one way or the other about Willie.
He decided he was reading too much into it, worrying about it too much. So he was the one to break the silence.
“I don’t mind sharing a bed with you, Willie,” he said. “It’s late and I’m exhausted, I could sleep anywhere right now. And I’m sure you don’t really want to go all the way back downstairs just to ask if they have another room. It won’t make any difference. We can share a bed – we’ll be fine.”
Willie blinked, seeming surprised, but then he smiled lightly. Alex felt his heart flutter despite his exhaustion – it was incredible how Willie could have that effect on him no matter what.
“Okay, hotdog,” Willie agreed, nodding resolutely. Just with the use of the nickname, any tension in the room dissipated. Suddenly they were just two guys about to share a bed and it was completely fine. “You’re right. Let’s get some sleep.”
They took turns getting ready for bed in the bathroom (which was far bigger than a bathroom had any business being, Alex thought) and eventually settled down into the bed, side by side, plenty of room between the two of them. Though the day had been hot, the night had turned cold, and the satin sheets were doing very little to keep them warm. Alex burrowed further into the covers, pulling them up to his chin and trying to settle himself. He was still a little nervous, it would have been impossible to be completely chilled out about the whole situation, but he was too tired to really notice.
There was total silence for a few minutes before Willie quietly said, “You talk in your sleep sometimes.”
Alex turned to his right to face him. Willie was laying on his side, facing Alex, one hand under his head on the pillow and the other hidden by the duvet. The top he wore was oversized and revealed most of his collarbone, his hair was mussed as it spilled out over the pillow, and he had the sweetest little smile on his tired face. Alex, heart hammering, mirrored his position without realising he was doing it, but he did register that his movement brought them much closer together.
“Do I?” he asked, voice low and hushed.
Willie giggled gently, nodding. “Yeah. I’ve heard you on some of our sleepovers.”
“What do I say?”
“Nonsense, mainly,” Willie told him. “But sometimes you talk about the band, that’s always sweet. It’s a change from you calling Luke and Reggie annoying so often. And it’s nice to know you love them really.”
Alex grinned. “Of course I love them. They’re my brothers and Julie’s my sister. Although I am still annoyed at Luke for this whole thing.”
Willie’s expression changed abruptly, from amused to… what was that? Hurt? Had Alex said something wrong without realising it? Oh god, had he just changed the tone of the situation back to awkward?
“I thought you were okay with this,” Willie said. His voice was a different kind of quiet. Small now in a way it hadn’t been before.
“I am,” Alex said quickly. “I’m more than okay with this.”
“Then why are you still angry at Luke?”
“Because he knows how I–”
He stopped himself abruptly. He knows how I feel about you. That had been what he was about to say. The late hour had loosened his tongue and he had almost ruined everything. He stopped, changed course, started again.
“He knows how I get nervous about this kind of thing. If I’d been sharing a room with him and Reg like normal then there wouldn’t have been this whole problem.”
“Why is sharing with me a problem?” Willie asked, brow furrowed in confusion. “Would you have been like this if we were just sharing a room, not a bed?”
Alex opened his mouth but couldn’t think of anything to reply with that wouldn’t prompt further questions. He couldn’t see this night ending well for him at all. It was barely midnight and already he had offended Willie by saying the wrong thing. How was he meant to carry on from this?
“I wouldn’t have been so worried if there were two beds,” he admitted slowly. Willie deflated, nodded, curled into himself slightly. It broke Alex’s heart. “But it’s not because I don’t want to share a bed with you.”
“Then what is it?” Willie asked pleadingly. “Just tell me, Alex – whatever the reason is, it won’t change anything between us. I won’t hate you or anything like that. Just tell me what’s on your mind.”
Alex couldn’t help wondering from that if Willie had already guessed. And if he had then there was no point in pretending anymore. Perhaps he wouldn’t have done it if he hadn’t been so tired, his brain working so slowly, but he made his decision then and didn’t back down.
Willie’s hand had come out from beneath the covers and was now resting in the space between them on the mattress. Alex placed his hand over it and linked their fingers. He heard Willie gasp quietly and didn’t stop to think whether that was a good or bad sign.
“Luke knows how I feel about you,” Alex said. His voice wavered nervously and he couldn’t look Willie in the eye, but he still felt a thrill knowing that he was finally saying this, taking an enormous weight off his shoulders. “He knows that I’ve liked you for as long as I’ve known you. He knows how much this could mean to me, but also how nervous I’d be. I don’t know if you feel the same way, Willie. If this is weird or I’m out of order or anything like that then you can tell me to stop talking. I was just nervous because Luke did this, got me this close, without telling me about it and it threw me off. You threw me off. I’m sorry if I’ve upset you or made you uncomfortable. But that’s what’s on my mind.”
Alex finally took his eyes of his and Willie’s interlinked fingers to look Willie in the eye. Willie’s eyes were sparkling, an incredulous half-smile on his face. Alex took that as a good sign.
“Really?” Willie asked.
Alex swallowed heavily and nodded once. “Really.”
Willie said nothing. He just used their intertwined hands to pull himself closer to Alex and rest his head on his chest. Alex was glad his heart was on the other side of his chest, otherwise Willie would have been able to hear how fast it was beating. Willie had thrown an arm over Alex’s waist, holding him close, so Alex’s wrapped his around Willie’s back. He felt Willie sigh contentedly, and on a burst of confidence he pressed the lightest kiss possible to the top of Willie’s head.
“Does this mean you like me too?” Alex asked. He was fairly certain, but it was always good to double check.
Willie chuckled and Alex felt his heart swell with love. “Yeah. I like you too, hotdog.”
“So the couples room worked out after all, I guess,” he joked.
Willie tilted his head to look up at Alex, looking for all the world like an angel on Earth.
“Definitely,” he agreed. “But I think we finally use this bed for its real purpose and get some sleep.”
“Goodnight, Willie.” Alex reached over and flicked off the little bedside lamp, plunging them into total darkness.
“Goodnight, Alex.”

summary: A CUTE LIL FIC ABOUT A SUMMER CAMP CLOSING AND A WEEKEND GETAWAY, A SLOW BURN FIC
pairing: platonic obx cast x y/n, eventual drew starkey x reader
word count: 1.7k
a/n: so i didn’t want to write about (redacted) being rudy’s gf since i know like 3/4′s of the fandom is not a fan of her so i made up an oc and yes.... she’s me. i also gave jd a gf too, just go with it bc he deserves just as much love. also i have no idea if madison used to work at a summer camp, pls don’t question it
When Madison walks into the hair and makeup department of set one morning, you can immediately tell she’s upset.
“What’s up, buttercup?” you ask as she sits down in her usual chair. She lets out a long sigh and you frown as you take her hair out of the top knot sitting on top of her head, wondering what’s got her in such a bad mood.
“I just found out the summer camp I used to work at is closing down,” she rests her cheek on her palm and pouts. “I know it’s silly to be upset about it but I really loved it there, it was a big part of my life. Kinda felt like a place I grew up is just getting torn down.”
“It’s not silly,” you reassure her quickly, giving her shoulder a quick squeeze in attempt to comfort her. “I loved summer camp, I can see why you’re so upset.”
“I just wish I could at least go say goodbye to it,” Madison sighs again before looking down at her hands. You’re quiet for a few seconds as you begin to think, the silence filling the trailer uncomfortably.
“Well then, why don’t you?” you ask. She looks up immediately at your reflection in the mirror with her nose scrunched up in confusion.
“What are you talking about?” she asks.
“Filming for this season is almost over, you’ve got a lot of time on your hands. Why don’t you go spend a weekend or something? I’d even go with you! It could be tons of fun!” you smile brightly at her. Madison turns around to look at your face, her eyes bright and full of hope.
“Really? You’d do that?” she asks, her voice about to break. You nod rapidly.
“What’s going on in here?” Madelyn asks as she walks into the trailer, you assume Chase isn’t far behind her.
“Y/N and I are gonna take a trip to the old summer camp I used to work with, you should come!” Madison says, her voice now happy and full of life.
“Is this just a girls trip? Because if so, you know I will be crashing,” Rudy’s voice startles you, you turn around and see him sitting in the back of the trailer and you wonder how long he had been sitting there or how you didn’t notice him before.
“Why don’t we all go?” Madison suggests. “Cline, Chase, JD, Y/N, Mariah, Rudy you could even bring Lily if you wanted.”
“That sounds like so much fun!” Madelyn says as she jumps up and down and claps her hands excitedly.
Rudy smiled at the mention of his girlfriend. “JD will want to bring Tayla too,” he points out.
“That’s totally fine.”
“Great, I’ll be the only single one there,” you let out a laugh, Madison hits you in the stomach lightly with the back of her hand.
“Shut up, it will still be fun,” she assures you and you nod along with her words.
“I know, I can’t wait!”
Tumblr media
About a week goes by when suddenly you find yourself packing all your summer essentials in one suitcase and sleeping soundly in a car as you and all your loud friends make your way to what Madison had described as ‘a little piece of my childhood.’ You were excited, really, but watching all the cute couples around you made your heart sink. Sure, you were all happy for them, but you wanted someone to experience a summer romance with you too.
“So I talked to the guy who owns the camp,” Madison explains as she turns around in the front seat to look back at the rest of you. “He said that he left a lot of the old equipment there and that we’re free to use any of it since it’s probably just gonna be donated at the end of the summer anyway.”
“What kind of equipment are we talking about?” Rudy calls from the very back seat.
“Fishing poles, bunk beds, oh and did I mention jet skis?” Madison smiles which causes the whole car to erupt in loud cheers.
“What did you wanna do first, baby?” Mariah asks as she looks over at her girlfriend. Madison reaches over and grabs her hand.
“I think we should settle in first, unpack and get everything ready, then we can go for a good old fashioned swim in the lake. After it gets dark out maybe we could have a bonfire and make s’mores or something?”
“That sounds amazing,” Mariah smiles.
The ride continues on, the sound of all your friends conversations are drowned out by your headphones. Eventually you feel a soft shake of your shoulder and open your eyes only to realize you had fallen asleep on Jonathan’s shoulder.
“Sorry,” you mumble, your cheeks growing an intense shade of red as you took off your headphones.
“No big deal,” JD lifts his shoulders into a shrug. “I just wanted to wake you up since we’re here.” You look out the window and see a bright red cabin sitting under the sun.
You smile and immediately jump out of the car, shielding your eyes from the brightness as you take in your surroundings. It looks just like a cliche summer camp with an arch over the cabin door that says the camp name. You get a feeling you’re on the set of a bad 80′s horror movie.
“So where are we staying?” Chase asks as he pulls suitcases out from the back of the van. You can’t tell if hes being sarcastic or not, considering the bright red double story cabin standing proudly in front of you.
“This is where the counselors would stay,” Madison explains as she gestures to the large building. “And the campers would stay a little farther down. The counselors have a bit more privacy and it’s nicer but technically speaking if you wanna be alone you can stay in the campers cabin.”
“Can we go look at the campers cabins?” you perk up. Madison turns to look at you with her nose scrunched slightly in confusion “As much as I love all of you guys, I don’t really wanna be rooming with only couples and hearing what you guys get up to in the middle of the night.” this causes Rudy to laugh.
“No, you definitely do not,” he agrees as he wraps his arms around his girlfriend whose face you notice is getting significantly pinker. JD lets out a gag.
“Yeah, I can show you the way to those cabins. Are you sure you want to be all alone though? It can get a little scary at night,” Madison asks you, her voice suddenly full of concern. You purse your lips together and nod your head.
“Yeah, I mean how bad can it really be?”
Tumblr media
Bad, the answer to that question was.
It turns out unpacking and settling in took much longer than expected and you were all exhausted by the end of it, plus the sun had already gone down so there was no point in trying to go swimming and you were all too tired to start a fire. So you all just decided to call it a night.
And being alone in the campers cabin was definitely not a good idea.
First off, it was freezing at night so you were left to wrap yourself up tightly in your blankets. Secondly, it was so loud. The animals outside decided it would be a good idea to scream outside your window so you were left listening to owls and wolves howl the entire night. However you would have much rather preferred those noises to the ones you were sure were coming from Rudy and Lily’s room.
And lastly, no one talks about how scary it is to be alone at night.
You thought you hadn’t been scared of being alone at night since you were a little kid. Turns out old habits really die hard. You were sure someone was going to burst through the front door and put a bag over your head and drag you off into the night with you kicking in screaming. So naturally this resulted in you having horrible nightmares and a bad nights sleep. But you refused to tell that to your friends when you met up for breakfast in the morning.
“Hey, how did everyone sleep?” Madison greets, holding her cup of coffee with both hands and close to her face in attempts to warm herself up.
“Great!” Rudy announces, his mouth full of his breakfast.
“From the sounds and looks of it, you didn’t get much sleep did you?” you tease him, looking over at Lily who has tired eyes and is in the middle of a yawn. Rudy shrugs.
“What about you, y/n? How was your experience alone out in the campers cabin?” JD perks up, desperate to change the subject.
“From the sounds of it, I think I slept better than all of you guys combined,” you joked even though it was a complete lie. Everyone in the group laughs.
“Are we ready to go swimming?” Chase asks, throwing his napkin down on his plate.
“Aren’t we supposed to wait 30 minutes until after eating to go swimming?” Mariah asks.
“Isn’t that bullshit?” Madelyn rebuttals.
“LAST ONE IN THE WATER IS A ROTTEN EGG!” Rudy calls as he stands up and runs out of the room, JD running quickly after them which causes Tayla and Lily to yell for them.
“None of us are wearing our bathing suits!”
Tumblr media
Eventually, everyone did make it down to the water. Rudy ended up beating JD in their mini race which resulted in JD pushing him off the dock which made everyone laugh, even Lily. Everyone else jumped in the water after that and were swimming around for a while before someone spoke up.
“Are we expecting anyone else?” Lily asked.
“No, why?” Madison asked. Lily points to the front of the camp where another car is pulling up. Turns out, this is a campy horror movie which will result in your death.
“Is that-” Chase starts. “No way, he said he couldn’t make it this weekend.”
“Who? What? What are you guys talking about?” you ask as you examine everyones faces and notice it was someone they all recognized. Then, out of the car, wearing swim trunks and a button up, steps out one of your close friends.
“I finished up filming early, now the fun has arrived!” Drew yells, causing you to smile.
Looks like you won’t be the only single one on this trip after all.

December 1984
"You okay?" Y/N's voice echoed through the empty rink as she skated over to the boy sprawled flat on his back, spread-eagled like a snow angel, and it took everything in her not to laugh at the withering glare Steve sent her way when she came to a stop at his side, her toe pick dragging faintly through the ice.
"Just peachy."
"Hey, at least you didn't fall on your face this time," she fired back with a cheeky grin, finally giving into her laughter when he rolled his eyes, muttering "yeah, yeah" under his breath as he took her outstretched hands and let her help him to his wobbly feet. He managed to stand on his own for only a second or two before his arms started flailing and she quickly reached out to steady him once again, her hands wrapped securely around his wrists.
"This is harder than it looks," he said with his own fingers gripping tight to her forearms and Y/N shrugged off that weird feeling she got in her stomach when she felt the warmth of his palms through the thick wool of her sweater.
"Well," she replied, casually starting to skate backwards and pulling Steve along with her, "Those weak ass ankles of yours don't really help, you know."
His laugh rang loud throughout the vacant arena and Y/N's smile grew as she patiently guided him around the ice for a few laps, watching his strides become more and more confident with each left turn.
If someone would've told her she'd be teaching Steve Harrington how to skate, she'd have laughed right in their face. Her, the weird girl who spent way too much time alone at the rink working on her axel, willingly helping him, the king of Hawkins High who had a reputation of only thinking about himself? Fat chance of that.
But there she was, gliding alongside him now as he slowly skated on his own, one hand hovering near his elbow just in case those weak ankles of his decided to give out again and send him into another face plant.
When she agreed to let her neighbor Dustin and his friends come in after closing for a private skate two weeks ago -the rink's owner always let Y/N do whatever she wanted, considering she was both her best employee and customer- she had no idea one of those friends was the infamous teenager himself. Seeing his car roll up that night, Dustin waving enthusiastically from the passenger seat and the others crammed in the back like sardines, instead of Mrs. Henderson's mini van had thrown her for a loop, one that took her an embarrassingly long time to recover from as she let them in through the back door and slipped behind the counter to pass out pairs of skates.
It wasn't until he was standing in front of her asking for a size ten did she look up to acknowledge his presence, instantly noticing the small, almost shy grin he offered her that she awkwardly returned. The two weren't quite friends -never had been, really, despite having at least one class together since the fourth grade (not that she was keeping track or anything, no)- but as Y/N laced up her own skates and led the group out onto the ice, she wondered if maybe, just maybe that could ever change. This Steve was so, so different from the one she knew from school: laughing as he and Dustin both instantly fell to the ground in a heap, a real, genuine smile on his face instead of his usual cocky smirk and she found her eyes following him and his clumsy self throughout the evening, her mind racing as she tried to figure out exactly which version of him was the real thing.
The next afternoon had only confused Y/N further when he showed up unannounced at the rink after school and the sound of his sudden enthusiastic cheering when she successfully landed a double Lutz startled her so badly that she lost an edge and fell on her ass right in front of where he stood by the bleachers.
"Holy shit, are you okay?" He was on the ice before she could protest, shuffling along the glass in his tennis shoes until he reached her and offered a hand. "Sorry, I didn't mean to scare you-"
"It's fine, I'm fine," Embarrassed beyond belief, she waved off both his apology and outstretched hand and hauled herself to her feet, first brushing snow from her leggings and then the blades of her skates, one at a time. "That happens a lot, don't worry."
"Oh," He said, letting his arm return to holding onto the boards in an effort to keep himself upright. "Still, I'm sorry-"
"Seriously, Harrington, it's fine. No worries," She smiled, ignoring the stinging pain in her butt and leaned against the glass next to him. "Why are you here, though?"
It was his turn to look embarrassed as that same semi-shy grin from the night before appeared on his face before he blurted out in a rush, "Can you teach me how to skate?"
Y/N blinked. Of all the things to come out of his mouth, that was definitely not what she expected; to be fair, though, anything he could've possibly said would've been pretty damn unexpected, considering the circumstances. "You want me...to teach you...no offense, Steve, but why?"
He shrugged at her question before glancing around the empty arena and leaning close like he was about to spill a secret. "Would you judge me if I said I was trying to impress a girl?"
That was more like the Steve she knew, she thought as she breathed a quick laugh with the shake of her head. "Only a little bit. This girl, she likes to skate?"
He grinned again, this time wide and pretty damn smitten, and nearly lost his balance when he tried to keep one of his feet from slipping out from underneath him. "She's the best skater I know. You should see her out there, gliding around like a freakin' angel or something."
That was...surprisingly sweet coming from the boy she once thought she had all figured out, sweet and sincere and downright adorable and Y/N found herself nodding without any idea why. "Okay."
"Okay what?"
"I'll teach you, alright? I don't mess around when it comes to skating though, so you better be ready to work your ass off."
The smile he sent her way was so bright it was almost blinding, like sunlight dancing off freshly fallen snow. "You're the best, Y/N. I owe you one."
"You got that right, Harrington." She said, wrapping her hand around his elbow and tugging him toward the door that led off the ice. "Let's go get you some skates, first lesson starts now."
Ten lessons in and despite a few nasty falls and a bad habit of tripping over his toe picks, he wasn't doing that badly; not only was he a surprisingly quick learner and good listener, he took her playful teasing like a champ -to be fair, she did tell him she dished out tough love when she taught so he knew that was part of the deal- and threw it right back without a second thought. Never before had she felt so...at ease around someone who wasn't her sister and it was both exhilarating and just a bit scary.
As they finished up their Friday night lesson and stepped out of the rink into the biting wind, Y/N found herself wishing for Monday because the idea of parting ways for the weekend rested heavy on her heart like the big, fat snowflakes that were falling from the dark sky. Becoming friends with Steve was something she never expected -making friends was never an easy thing for her to do- and yet slowly, surely it had happened, and she realized that she would stop the world from spinning if it meant she could spend just a little more time with him. When he lingered by his car, twirling his keys around his finger as white started to dot his stupid, wonderful hair, she hoped he was thinking the same thing.
"So..." She spoke first and broke the comfortable silence that had settled over the parking lot like the falling snow. "I was wondering if you could maybe give me a ride? My car's in the shop and I really don't feel like walking home in this."
"I do owe you," He grinned at the disdained wrinkle in her nose and unlocked the car, climbing inside without a word before reaching over to push open the passenger side door. "Get in, we're getting fries first."
She smiled widely, cheeks stinging from the cold and hope bursting in her chest like New Year's Eve fireworks. "You're buying."
That's how they ended up in a corner booth of the local diner, sharing a basket of fries and sipping on milkshakes despite the snow blowing outside the window.
"Honestly, you're doing pretty well for someone with such weak ankles," Y/N laughed as Steve rolled his eyes and dunked a fry in his shake with more force than necessary.
"You're never gonna let me forget that, are you?"
"Nope." She popped the 'p' of her breezy answer before plucking the cherry from the towering mound of whipped cream on the top of her drink. "Just like you won't let me forget that time I fell on my ass after you scared me and then had the audacity to ask for lessons!"
"Hey, you," He pointed a fry in her direction and laughed when she instantly ripped half of it out of his hand and lobbed it at his chest, "had the audacity to agree to them!"
Y/N pressed her lips together in an effort to keep a straight face as she joked, "You know what? I take back what I said, you haven't improved at all. You're a fucking skating disaster, Harrington."
The gleam in his eyes reminded her of the Christmas lights strung up above their heads, sparkling and bright and full of something that filled her whole body with a lovely warmth she never wanted to lose. "Well, Y/N, hate to break it to you but me sucking just proves you're not that good of a teacher."
"How dare you," She gasped in mock offense and lightly kicked him in the shin, the last of her composure dissolving completely when he fell back against the cracked vinyl seat like he'd been shot. "Good luck impressing your mystery girl without me."
If all her focus wasn't already on the boy sitting across from her, she would've missed the way his grin faltered for just a moment as he turned away to look out the window. Her brow furrowed at that, as well as the sudden bitter taste in her mouth at the mention of the girl he was trying to impress, the girl whose identity was still unknown to her and at this point, she wasn't quite sure if she even wanted to find out.
"Steve?" Her hand moved on its own to lightly touch his wrist, the warmth of his skin bleeding into her cold fingers. "You okay?"
"Why did you do it?"
"Huh?"
"Why did you agree to teach me how to skate? And for nothing, even." He gazed at her over the tall malt glass in front of him, brown eyes searching hers until she looked away, down at her hand still resting on his beside their shared fries as her cheeks started to flood with heat.
She'd been asking herself that question for two weeks now, since this whole thing started at the beginning of December. Two weeks later, with only eight days left before Christmas, she was starting to think she might have an idea why; too bad she was too scared to even admit to to herself, let alone say it out loud.
"I don't know." She answered after a too-long pause in which she pulled her hand back to her lap -with her eyes still cast down at her melting shake, she missed the disappointed look on his face at the loss of her touch- and shrugged her sweater-clad shoulders. "I love skating, okay? It's my favorite thing to do in the world but, honestly, it gets kind of lonely being out on the ice all by yourself. I...I guess I just couldn't pass up an opportunity to share it with someone else...and um, not be alone for once. You can't put a price on that."
When he didn't reply, she glanced up from watching a bead of condensation roll down the stem of her glass only to find him still looking at her, the corner of his mouth turned up in that same soft smile she'd fooled herself into thinking was just for her.
"Even if that someone is me, Y/N?"
She smiled back and bumped her boot against his sneaker under the table. "Even if that someone is you, Steve. You're not as bad as that reputation of yours makes you seem."
A comfortable silence fell over the two teens as they went back to their food, the diner around them becoming busier and busier the later the night went on. Someone switched the radio to a Christmas station and in between bites of fries Y/N softly sang along to Wham!'s Last Christmas, an ear worm of a song that'd been stuck in her head ever since it was released at the beginning of the month.
"This year, to save me from tears, I'll give it to someone special."
"Have you ever been afraid of not being good enough for someone?" Steve asked suddenly, causing the girl to look away from the snow still falling steadily outside the window.
"More times than I'd care to admit," She answered honestly, finishing her milkshake and pushing the empty glass to the side. "Why? Is this about your mystery girl?"
"I think I'm realizing that she's way, way out of my league. Like, she's a pro in the MLB and I'm...playing tee ball with five-year-olds." He said as he dragged a fry through the glob of ketchup on his plate, back and forth, over and over until Y/N once again reached across the table to put her hand on his.
"Listen to me and listen good 'cause I'm only gonna say this once," She said quietly, just loud enough for him to hear over the noise of the diner. "If this girl doesn't see how absolutely wonderful you are, she is -and I'm saying this from the very bottom of my heart so you know it's true- a total fucking dumbass. Got it?"
That whooshing feeling in her stomach came flooding back at the sight of the bright blush slowly spreading across his face at her words and as his pinky moved to link with hers, one crazy, impossible thought popped into her head: she'd do anything, absolutely anything to stay in that moment forever.
But that's the sad thing about fleeting, promising moments: eventually, no matter how hard you try, they still come to an end. With their fries gone and milkshake glasses empty, they had no reason to stay and so they ventured back out into the cold night, walking closer than they ever had before to Steve's car. It wasn't until he pulled into her driveway did he speak, turning to face her in the passenger seat and breaking the warm, comforting silence that had wrapped around them like a blanket on the short drive from the diner.
"Thank you."
Y/N quirked an eyebrow. "For what?”
"Everything. Teaching me, what you said back there...being my friend." He said simply and she felt her heart skip a beat when that smile of his appeared on his face and lit up the whole car.
"I should be thanking you," She replied, picking at a loose thread dangling from the sleeve of her coat. "I don't have many friends but I'm really, really happy you're one of them."
"Me, too."
She smiled softly and reluctantly reached down to grab her bag from the floor. "I'd better get inside before my grandpa sends out a search party. Thanks for tonight, I, um, I had a lot of fun."
"So did I, even after you ever so rudely threw that fry at me."
"You deserved it." She said in a sing-song voice as she opened the car door and placed one foot on the snowy ground outside. "I'll see you Mon-"
"Wait." It was his turn to touch her hand, his larger palm folding over hers and stopping her from leaving. "Would you want to do it again sometime? Maybe over Christmas break?"
She hoped all the effort she was putting into keeping her cool was paying off as the butterflies exploded in her stomach at his words. "I'd like that."
He squeezed her hand once before letting go and sending her off with a bright grin. "Goodnight, Y/N."
"Goodnight, Steve."
He waited until she disappeared into the house before driving off into the night and she watched him go through the living room window, falling back onto the couch with a giddy smile after his car turned the corner.
The next morning found Y/N alone at the quiet rink, the only sound coming from her blades smoothly cutting through the ice as she skated through her practice routine; triple toe loop, Biellmann spin, double Salchow. It was methodical and soothing, her body running through the maneuvers it knew by heart while her mind thought ahead to the one move that she'd never been able to successfully land: the double Axel. Today was her day, she could feel it and no matter how many tries it took -she'd already bit it twice- she was going to land that jump.
Approaching the move head on, she picked up speed until she was flying across the ice, cold wind whipping through her hair and stinging her cheeks; she bent her left knee, lifted her right foot, and leaped from her left outside edge before spinning two and a half times and landing, albeit a bit shakily, on the outside edge of her right.
"Yes! Holy shit!" The girl's shouts echoed throughout the arena as she spun to a stop, excitedly punching her fist in the air, and she was so caught up in celebrating that she didn't notice when the door opened and someone stepped out onto the ice with her.
"I have no idea what that was but it looked impressive and scary as all hell."
Y/N spun around to face the owner of the sudden, familiar voice and couldn't keep herself from smiling when she noticed no trace of unsteadiness in Steve's skating as he slowly came to a stop at her side. "It's called a double Axel. What are you doing here?"
"Well," He said, cheeks flushed not just from the cold, taking another step closer until his skates bumped against hers, "last night I realized I didn't do something I really wanted to, so I came to fix it."
"And what was it?" Her voice was breathless and full of unbridled hope as she tucked a loose strand of hair behind her ear. "The thing you didn't do?"
"This."
And with that he cupped her face in both hands and leaned down to press his lips to hers. Y/N responded immediately, kissing him back with everything she had and then some, like she'd wanted to do ever since that first night. That first night when she started to see him for who he really was, not the reputation given to him by their classmates. Ever since that next day when he accidentally scared her and then asked for lessons so he could impress a girl -shit, mystery girl.
Her hands, having found their way to his chest, gently pushed him back at the thought that popped into her head and the loss of his warm touch made her shiver; opening her eyes, she found him looking stricken a foot away, an apology written on his face clear as day.
"I'm sorry, I shouldn't have-"
"No, no! It's not that," She said in a rush, skating forward and all but crashing into him in a desperate attempt to keep him near, to keep that euphoric, heavenly feeling being close to him brought her. "That...that was, shit, that was perfect, okay? But what about her?"
"Her?" His hands gripped her waist as hers settled on his chest once again, gloved fingers curling in the soft cotton of his green sweater. "Who's 'her'?"
"Your mystery girl, the skater!"
The look on Steve's face was the perfect mix of exasperation and affection and she felt her cheeks burn as he replied, "Y/N, it's you. It's always been you."
Oh. Oh. Holy hell, she must be the dumbest bitch on God's green earth. This whole time, it wasn't just wishful thinking: every lingering stare, every lasting touch, every time he smiled that soft smile, they were all real and she could finally say, with certainty, that they were just for her, like she'd always hoped they'd been.
All she could think about now was kissing him again so she tugged him down to her level, fully intent on picking up where they left off and she'd almost reached his lips before he slipped and sent them both tumbling to the ice in a tangle of limbs.
"Maybe I still need more lessons after all," He said, propping himself up on his elbow and smiling down at the laughing girl lying beneath him.
"Hey, I finally thought of something you can do to pay me back!"
The ice was cold through her leggings but she didn't even notice as she slid her fingers into his hair and pulled him down so they were barely an inch apart.
"Yeah?"
"Kiss me."

Je Veux Être ta Lumière
Tumblr media
Genre: Idol!Johnny, Idol!FemReader
Member:  NCT Johnny x Female Reader
Word Count: 2.2k
Summary: In which after your first encounter at an award show, Johnny starts to take an interest in you.
A/N: This is my first fan fiction/AU (?) ever, so i hope you do enjoy it. Also, this was originally supposed to be a Johnny x OC but i decided to change it to a Johnny x Reader.
Tumblr media
“...And I promise that we will work harder from now, to make our fans extra proud of us.” She bowed down at 90 degrees as finished the speech, thanking the audience quietly and smiling brightly as they clapped and cheered out for her. The award grasped tightly in another one of your member's hand, the name still standing out brightly, ‘Artist Of The Year’.
You stood still and you held your sobbing group member in your arms as another member took to the mic to talk about your hardships since the beginning and how thankful you all were to all your fans and the people that have supported you since the start - you were slightly shocked she even thanked the haters for helping you get to where you are.
You smiled out into the crown, your eyes a little glossy as you refused to cry in front of masses of people staring at you - you were known for that, not crying. You were the emotionless, mysterious member of the group; some people even made jokes that you cried ugly or that you were part of the mafia, which was why so little was known about you. All you did was laugh it off.
Now as you stood on stage, a sobbing 22-year-old in your arms, having won an award many idols can just dream of, you didn’t know if you had the willpower to not cry.
You watched as your members finished giving their speeches and bowed at the crowd as they clapped. You gently pushed her away from you and wiped her tears away. “Jiyoon bro,” you grinned at her, “we just won an award, no more crying, yeah?”
She nodded, sniffling a little, and directed a small smile towards you, which you returned. You grabbed her hand and faced the audience who had watched the whole ‘escapade’ go down and aimed a forced smile at them, your own eyes still slightly blurry with the tears you refused to spill. You looked up and blinked a few times continuously, getting rid of the tears.
You bowed down at the crowd with your members, still holding Jiyoon’s hand as tightly as you could, you were sure you were going to get a little telling off as soon as you sat down in your seats away from the prying eyes of the other idols (most of them anyway).
You looked back up as your group started walking off the stage, still holding Jiyoon’s hand, staring down at your feet intently as you walked, afraid that you’d trip and make a laughing stock of yourself in these 6-inch heels that you were forced to wear -  you could barely walk in them for god's sake.
“I can’t believe you actually listened to her and wore those hideous heels,” Jiyoon grimaced, referencing your horrible stylist, in a low voice as you both walked back to your seats.
“I really had no choice, it was either put them on myself or have them forced on me by some 40-year-old woman,” you replied, “should have seen the glare she gave me when I told her I wasn’t the best at walking in heels, she was about to bury me six feet under, alive at that too,” you added, placing the blanket you had been given over both your laps as soon as you sat down, keeping your eyes on the stage in front of you, trying to give your best reactions to the group performing on stage.
Jiyoon scooted closer to you, making sure the blanket covered both of your legs fully before speaking again, already giggling at what she was about to say. “You should wear heels more often, you're finally tall. It looks good on you my friend.” Giving you an exaggerated smile and a pat on the back, she returned her attention to the stage.
You gave her a playful glare, “Can’t believe we’re friends,” you mumbled, shaking your head at her antics, the grin on her face growing wider indicating that she had heard you,
Both of you immersed yourself with the performance that was going on stage, your group member, Ava, and you coincidentally slapping Jiyoon on her thighs when KARD’s BM ripped his shirt off in the middle of his collaboration stage, Monsta X’s Shownu and Exo’s Kai and Chanyeol following shortly after. You were sure your reaction would be used for one of those videos you always saw going around, the title of the video already floating around in your mind, ‘Enigma’s Y/N Loves Those Abs?!’ you giggled lightly at that. Your fandom had an unusual way of naming videos, that, you could agree with any day.
A nudge in your side brought you back to reality as Jiyoon pointed at the big monitor by the stage, which was playing a replay of Ava and your reaction to the stage, causing you to blush slightly. Embarrassed, you lifted the blanket on your lap and held it in front of your face with one hand, fanning your self with the other, you were sure your face had gone beet red.
You heard laughing and slowly lowed the blanket placing it back on your lap as you leaned forward, glaring playfully at your members.
“Oh shut up, don’t tell me you didn't enjoy it either,” you paused and mouthed,” They were HOT,” you fanned yourself for extra measure (and to also make sure they understood what you were saying). Your members rolled their eyes, shaking their head at your antics. You shook your head back at them, moving to sit back in your seat comfortably, leaning back and watching the performances, dancing the choreography in the limited space you had or just mouthing the lyrics and clapping your hands to the beat when the cameras came around to record your reactions.
Some time had passed, more awards were given out and more performances had taken place and you and your group members were getting more tired and bored. They even showed your leader, Soyeon, yawning during the performance of a popular group; that was something your group and the people sitting around you had a good giggle about as your leader shied away from in embarrassment.
You wished something exciting would happen soon, or you were going to end up falling asleep from boredom. You never did like attending award shows, this was the first time in 4 years you had done so - back then your fans argued that they (award shows) were always doing you wrong, as during the voting for the awards you were leading in the first place, but those awards were given to other people. You would be lying if you said you weren't even a tiny bit upset, but you couldn't blame the groups.
Looking down at the mini screen placed on your table, you noticed the time and cheered quietly, nudging Jiyoon who in return nudged Ava, both turning to look at you. You pointed towards the time on the screen and they both widened their eyes.
“Guys, the break starts in a few.” you cheered.
“The break was supposed to start half an hour ago,” someone from behind you spoke up. The three of you turned around and simultaneously bowed your head at the stranger, who continued to speak, “The time on the monitor is 30 minutes behind, at this rate no one knows when they're going to announce the break.”
Confusion struck you and you furrowed your brows at the stranger.
“Sorry?”
He took out his phone and turned it on, holding it out to you. You were sure he intended to show you the time, which was indeed half an hour ahead, but you couldn't help noticing his lock screen - the literal back of an iPhone - which caused you to burst out in a giggle but you quickly covered it with a cough, which quickly turned into a fit. Ava and Jiyoon leaned over to have a look at what had caused to go into a coughing fit but he had taken the phone away and slid it into his blazer pocket before they could see.
You placed your hand on your chest, patting harshly to calm yourself. You bowed your head at the male sitting behind you before turning to face your group mates.
“He’s right. They moved the clocks back,” you said, defeated, slumping into the sofa. Jiyoon patted your back in sympathy. “Now we’ll never get a break, and I’ll be bored for the rest of eternity,” you called out dramatically.
You turned around again, hoping to talk a little more to the male behind you and maybe get to know his name, but he wasn't there; it was someone else. Before you were able to question the whereabouts of the stranger sitting there before, the one present spoke up.
“Names Mark,” he said suddenly in English, putting his hand out. You clasped his hand in both of your giving it a firm shake before letting go and aiming a warm smile at him.
“I’m Y/N,” you responded.
“Yo, you know English?” he questioned you, sounding a little bit too excited, placing his hand in front of his mouth as he leaned back, in what you assumed was shock.
“Yeah,” you nodded your head at him, hoping to turn around and end the conversation as quickly as possible.
“Where are you from,” he questioned, once again before you could fully turn around, “America? Australia? Canada?” He added, continuing to list of different English speaking countries.
“The UK,” you answered him briefly, cutting his rambling off in the process.
His lips formed an ‘O’ as he nodded his head slowly.
“But where in the UK?”
“England”
“Ohhhhh, I thought I sensed a British accent.”
You raised your eyebrow at him or at least tried to. He laughed when he noticed your facial expression.
“Hey, I’d be raising my eyebrow at you if I could Mark.” You said, squinting your eyes at him, in return he just laughed. You smiled at him, finding his laugh to be a little contagious.
You turned around, fully, placing your right leg under your left thigh, trying to get comfortable before realising you were very much still at an award show and then resorting to placing your legs at an angle as you continued to talk to Mark.
“Where are you from?” You questioned him.
“Canada.”
He was quick to reply and you were sure he had been waiting for you to ask him that question as soon as you had started talking to him. You simply smiled at the male, nodding your head again, wondering why it hadn't fallen off with all the nodding you were doing.
“If I'm not being rude, may I ask what group you're from?” You spoke., studying his features as he stared at you, that stupid smile glued to his face.
he nodded his head, before holding his hand out again. You held it, shaking it slowly as he talked.
“Hi, I’m NCT’s Mark,” he responded, holding your hand firmly, still shaking it.
You nodded again, “I’m-”
“Your Enigma’s Y/N,” he cut you off, “I know what group you're from.”
You bowed your head, giving him a bright smile and letting go of his hand.
“So you know my group but not my name and where I'm from?” You question him playfully.
He raised his hands in mock surrender and opened his mouth to speak, but was cut off by an approaching figure.
“Mark, move over.”
You looked over at the person who had just approached and realised it was the guy from earlier (the one who had ruined your mood by telling you that there probably wasn't going to be a break throughout the award show anytime soon). You gave him a small and quick bow hoping to turn around before Mark started speaking but of course, you were hit with bad luck.
You stared at Mark as he moved over, giving the guy some room to sit back down before talking again.
“Johnny Hyung, this is Y/N,” he continued to speak in English, to which Johnny raised an eyebrow before nodding slowly. He stared at you for a short while and there was no way you were looking away first so you stared back, sending a small, awkward smile his way, to reduce the awkwardness between the two of you.
“I’m Johnny,” he spoke out suddenly. in an American accent, startling you. You jumped a little as Mark started laughing, throwing his body everywhere and you suddenly felt sorry for the boy sitting next to him, who suddenly had to hold his weight as he was cracking himself up.
“Hyung...Suddenly..” he started before losing it, leaning against the other guy as he continued laughing,” I’m Johnny,” he said once he’d calmed down a little, shrugging his shoulders and pushing his head forward.
You smiled at his antics before shaking your head and smiling.
A light continuous tapping caused you to turn your head, only to come face to face with your leader who looked at you questioningly. You gave her a small smile and looked around confused as you noticed that many people were starting to stand up.
“It’s the break,” Soyeon said, answering your unasked question, “It’ll only last for around 30 minutes, I think, so if you want something time to get it now.”
Your lips formed an ‘O’ shaped as you nodded your head slowly.
“Can we get something to eat?” You asked her, as your stomach let out a small growl. It was speaking to you, begging for food, and you couldn't deprive it of the one thing it had only, always wanted.
Soyeon nodded before taking your hand in hers and pulling you up.
You glanced at the two boys, giving a quick nod of the head and smiling at them, even waving at them as you walked off with your leader, in the quest to get some food - in those godforsaken heels of yours.

Where do I fit into the SW fandom?
I'm pretty solidly a Sequels fan, but I have a special place in my heart for the Prequels. I'm a fic writer who dabbles mostly in canon universe AUs, what ifs, that sort of stuff. Primarily my fics have Rey with a tendency to focus on the First Order characters and plots.
My Top Faves
A classic Reylo fic from an old friend - Beneath the Facade. It technically has a prologue fic before it in the series, but this piece was the one that I really enjoyed way back in the EARLY days of Reylo.
Because I'm an insufferable Reylux fan, I have to rec at least one. This piece by @every-day-is-star-wars-day  a oneshot that ever so masterfully crushes my heart every time - Thread
My one Original Trilogy rec, this is a beast of a long fic but so, so good - Dark Times
My Own Stuff
Reylux, medieval AU - La Vita Primus - is the first in a small series of this AU
Reylo, TROS Fix-It - Oh but it's a dark future, my star. Oh but it's a soft morning for us soon.
apple-au
Who Am I?
Call me apple. she/her/hers. I’m gold_pen_leaps on dreamwidth, ao3, and pillowfort. @[email protected] on mastodon. I am doing my best to boycott tumblr, but I've been known to use a tumblr link embed on pf from time to time. (gold_pen_leaps (DW), gold_pen_leaps (AO3))
Where do I fit into the SW fandom?
I’m mainly into the Sequels and the Mandalorian. I joined the server for Hux/Kylo/Rey and all the combinations of the characters in my ot3. I can edit better than I can write. Sometimes I comment on fics.
My Top Faves
A Dance of Titans by @lucidlucy is a really long reylux fic. The delicious slowburn makes all the flavors combine in an amazing way. Love how they battle the main villain!
My Own Stuff
I helped give feedback on the second part of a series. Does that count? This is knight_of_dance's fic. It's really cool to see writers' takes on Modern AU, and this one has influenced my ideas of what sort of kinks those characters have. :smirk: Switch Up
Mizz
Who Am I?
hi! tho im much more...a lurker around here im mizz (she/they/he). im badarmada on tumblr, badwrong-gimme on pillowfort, gimmemrss on twitter, badwrongprincess on ao3 (i have so many usernames XD, ive got a dreamwidth, wordpress, and art insta too if youre interested lol)
(@badarmada, gimmemrss (twitter), badwrongprincess (AO3))
Where do I fit into the SW fandom?
i liked the prequels as a kid (still do kinda), rouge one, i do like clone wars tho i havent finished it and the sequels (well tfa and tros tho only one of them is good imo) i reblog stuff mostly and read fanfic, tho i write some stuff too. finn is my fav and pretty much my center character (ie the one i focus on the most) and i like most finn ships (favs being finnhux, finnlo, finnrey)
My Top Faves
the things we do for love by glare is an unfinished finnlohux fanfic that i love a lot
worlds are built for two by synergenic (Losseflame). this is a poefinn fic from finns pov
My Own Stuff
um...im still working on this fic -(Be More Chill, Hux) very slowly this year has been super hard on me writing wise and ive been drawing ocs and for another fandom mostly but I will finish this one day!
Arsanimo - Marion
Who Am I?
Hi, I’m Arsanimo, self taught artist and nerd from Germany that’s mostly lurking. You can find me with this username on tumblr, twitter and instagram. I draw mostly Reylo at the moment. ( @arsanimo, Arsanimo (Twitter), Arsanimo (IG))
Where do I fit into the SW fandom?
I‘m in my thirties and an OT fan since birth, because my dad was obsessed with Star Wars and we watched it a lot as kids - they are the go to christmas movies in our family. Even as a very small kid I loved Vader. I didn’t like the ST quite as much when it came out in cinemas but still watched them multiple times. I’m much more fond of them now. But my love for Star Wars really got renewed with the ST. I really liked TFA and TLJ a lot. Not a great fan of TROS though, but to each their own. I recently started watching TCW, if you haven’t go watch it! The Mandalorian is also great and feels more like the OT for me, which I love. Oh, and R1 was awesome, I loved that one! Solo also was good. I think I will be a lifelong fan because it’s such a rich universe and everybody can pick a favorite. I’m also good at ignoring the parts I don’t like, lol. But I‘m mostly exhausted about all the drama on social media, so at the moment I take a bit of a break from social media and only post from time to time. And I’m of the firm believe to ship and let ship and if the art and fics are good, you can also find me enjoying ships outside of Reylo (honestly, some Kylux art out there, woah... and Finnrey is always so tender but Stormpilot has two hot guys in it... and don’t get me started about Finnrose! You probably get the gist)
My Top Faves
It’s hard to name so few, there are so many good artists out there. But Winter of Her (Twitter) has some outstanding art in her own style. Than I really like the style of Khallion (Twitter), check her out.
My Own Stuff
And last but not least two pieces of mine that turned out pretty good

Knight_Of_Cookies
Who am I?
Allo allo, I go by many names but many know me as cookies here. Lol I'm from the US and I've been a lifelong A+, gold star , nerd my whole life. I love writing among 5 million other hobbies. I am on Tumblr and A03. (@knight-of-cookies, Knight_of_Cookies (AO3))
Where do I fit into the SW fandom?
It all started with the prequels which I fell in love with and even wrote my first fan fic on. (I dragged it from fanfic.net to A03 for my own form of personal torture) I dropped out of star wars until I was in Japan and a close group of friends got me to watch Roque One and play a star wars based table top role playing game, which dumped me back into this fandom hardcore. I fell in love with the sequel trilogy and now I'm stuck forever. Lol
I have been writing on A03 for around 2 years now for star wars and it's been the most productive and progressive work I've ever done thanks to ya'll.
Also, hey, I created this multishippers discord, because multishipping rocks and everyone should do it. :P I know I've never active enough but I love this space and the people in it! My fav part about multishipping is how I'm always discovering yet another ship that is awesome. It never ends. ^^
My top favs - (of things no one should be surprised by)
Beastie by @feckyeswriting. It spawned a written series(multiple actually)
Glutton by Witchoil. Just very good dark and wonderful kinky smut. Always go back to this one.
In the house that skywalker built by @aicosu. This story got me into Reylux in a way I'll never recover from.
My own stuff
Nothing but Themselves - This is my favorite beast of a story I've ever written and it will be beautiful when I finish it. One day. Lol
Tanzaku - One of my most polished pieces thanks to the Reylo Anthology. My best combo of: insert culture nerding here and captive Ben as personal tropes.

The Things We Never Mentioned (Part 1 of 3)
Fandom: Sanders Sides
Relationships: Logan/Patton
Characters: Logan, Patton, oops i made a self insert Lia(OC)
Summary:
“Believe it or not, academia and relationships are not mutually exclusive.” That was likely true, Logan knew. It was also not the problem.
The problem was his ability to move things with his mind, a blue suit he kept in his bag, and the mountains of red files he kept hidden in his apartment. No one knew that Logan was Bluebird, the cities resident superhero. He hadn’t even told his parents and he wasn’t planning on doing so. Sharing such a secret with anyone was a danger to everyone involved. He refused to do so.
At the same time, he knew that starting a romantic relationship with anyone who didn’t know the truth, was unfair to that person. Inevitably they would find out and there would be a disastrous fallout, but beyond that, starting a relationship on a foundation of lies was a horribly cruel thing to do to another person.
These two conflicting rules Logan followed had never posed an issue for him before recently, but…
But he did like Patton.
This is a three-shot dealing with events set before my story Sometimes Labels Fail set about a month and a half after the mini fics A Coffee Shop Meet Cute and A Coffee Shop Incident Report.
Notes: Superhero AU, people crushing really hard
“Why are you being all weird?” Lia asked.
Logan paused in his grading and frowned at her from across the table. They were seated in “The Hideout” at one of the tables with 200 exams between them. “What do you mean?”
“You’re acting all cagey. You keep looking around and you’re rubbing at the sleeve of your sweater like you do when professors are handing back assignments you struggled with.” Logan stopped the indicated action and placed his hands resolutely on the tabletop.
“I’m fine.”
“Too many people?” she asked. “We can go to my apartment if you want. Greg won’t mind.”
“No!” he said, perhaps a bit too enthusiastically judging by the odd look she gave him. “I quite enjoy this coffee shop.”
“…What’s your deal today Logan?”
“I am simply stressed at the number of final exams we have to grade by tomorrow.”
“I don’t know if I believe you.”
“That is not my problem,” he replied and took a sip of his coffee before going back to his grading. He still couldn’t stop his eyes from going to the door every so often.
It was about 15 minutes later when the bell over the door chimed and Logan’s hand went still when his eyes found “The Hideouts” newest patron. They met eyes briefly and Patton immediately corrected his course toward the table.
“Hi Logan,” he said with a smile, stopping about a foot away from where Logan sat.
“Hello Patton,” he replied. “How are you today?”
“Oh, I’m good.” They made eye contact for a couple of moments longer before he seemed to register Lia’s presence. “Oh, um. Sorry if I’m intruding.”
“You’re not,” Lia said before Logan could say anything. “Hi, I’m Lia,” she said offering her hand. “And you’re Patton if I heard right.”
He shook her hand with a smile. “I am. It’s nice to meet you.”
“It’s nice to meet you too. How do you and Logan know each other?”
“We’re just both regulars here and I almost poured a cup of coffee on him about a month and a half ago.”
“Wow,” she responded and then turned her eyes on Logan with some sort of untrustworthy twinkle in them. “Wow,” she repeated.
“Lia and I,” Logan said turning to Patton, “were teaching assistants for the same course this semester and are now grading the student’s finals.”
“I see. Well, you’re obviously busy so I’ll just let you…”
“Oh, you like Mind of Mystery?” Lia suddenly interjected.
Patton looked at her in surprise and then seemed to remember something, looking down at one of the pens on his bag. “Oh!” he said. “Yeah, I do.”
“You know, I love that show. Logan have you ever watched that show.”
“Uh… no.”
“Well that sucks. Now I kinda want to talk about it. Hey, grading doesn’t really take much brain power. Why don’t you grab a coffee and come sit with us? We can talk about the show. It will keep my mind off this mountain.” She waved to the stack in front of her.
“Oh, I,” he said, biting his lower lip. “I wouldn’t want to intrude.”
“It’s fine,” Logan said instantly.
Patton looked at him and smiled widely before looking away. “Okay then,” he replied. “I’ll go get some coffee.”
He watched the other man walk to the counter and then turned back to Lia. “What?” he asked at the strange look on her face.
“Oh my god,” she said and reached over to give him a punch on the shoulder. “You didn’t tell me you had a cute coffee shop boy.”
“I don’t have him Lia.”
“Have you asked him?” Logan felt the tips of his ears heat. “And don’t think I didn’t notice that you didn’t argue that he’s cute.”
“Well that is an objective fact.”
“Oh, is it now?” she asked. “Is that what Logan’s calling objective now?”
“He is clearly aesthetically pleasing. I am simply stating fact.”
“So, there’s no bias there?”
“Not at all, you noticed yourself did you not?” She rolled her eyes.
“Logan,” she said. “My dear friend, co-teacher, and office mate, if you don’t ask out the cute coffee shop boy who is clearly into you, I will slightly move every single one of your pens in the office.”
“And then I will throw your desk out of the window.”
“Come on, Logan,” she groaned. “He’s as cute as a button and is making heart eyes at you from the counter.”
Logan craned his neck backwards and Patton was indeed looking at him. He looked away when he met Logan’s eyes. Logan turned back to Lia, his blush now fully formed.
“Please,” she whisper-chanted. “Please, please, please, please, please.”
“Why are you so interested in my dating prospects?” he hissed back.
“Because you’re my friend, you were clearly hoping he’d show up, and you lit up like a Christmas tree when he came in. You have to ask him out.”
“I’m not interested in dating at this point in my life,” Logan said. “I’m quite busy with my studies and teaching. There is no room for such frivolities.”
“Logan I’m getting married this summer.”
“Yes, and that is you. Not me.”
“It isn’t an option for me at this point in my life,” Logan said.
Lia looked like she wanted to respond, but then shut her mouth and smiled over his shoulder. Patton appeared back at the table a moment later. He grabbed a chair from a nearby table to sit.
“How did the end of the semester go for you?” Patton asked.
“For the classes I took, it went well,” Logan answered. “As for the one I taught, it is not quite as over as I would like.” He gestured toward the exams stacked on the table.
“That looks like a lot.”
“Ugh,” Lia said. “It is and I’m suffering.”
Patton’s nose scrunched up a bit as he smiled. “Did you enjoy what you taught this semester at least? Calc II right?”
Lia shot Logan a look as though it were not normal behavior for someone to discuss the course they were teaching with an acquaintance or for said acquaintance to retain that information. “Yep,” she replied. “It was pretty fun. The students can be silly, but I like teaching.”
“I’m sure Dr. Stewart thought the same thing about you when you couldn’t remember the definition of a Lie group on your final.”
She stuck out her tongue in response. “Anyway,” she said. “It was a fun course to teach. It’s where you start getting mostly math majors or majors that need a lot of math and not people taking requirements. Plus, I got to work with Logan this semester so that was nice.” Logan rolled his eyes at her and hid his warming cheeks by taking a drink of coffee. “He’s great to work with, you know. The students all like him because he’s good at being patient and very thorough.” Okay, another drink of coffee. “I like working with him because he doesn’t hit on me since he’s very gay.” Logan chocked on his coffee.
“I’m,” he stopped to cough. “Unsure what my sexuality has to do with anything.”
“I’m just making conversation,” Lia replied innocently.
Patton chuckled softly and bit his lip with his own light blush on his cheeks. Oh god. He knew. If Logan had less self-restraint, he would have just thrown himself out the window and flown into the sun. Patton cleared his throat after a moment. “Didn’t you want to talk about Mind of Mystery, Lia?” he ask.
She frowned. Clearly, she did not want to talk about a television show. Yet, she was thankfully forced by social convention to discuss it with him. Logan did not have much to contribute about a television show he had never watched, but despite that, found himself unable to effectively grade. He held the red pen in his hand and hovered it over one of his students’ exams, but all of his attention was on their conversation. Patton was soft spoken usually, but his voice was always clear. That is unless he was tired. Logan secretly loved the days he came in a little sleepy even though it must be bad for the man’s health, especially as it was often during the mid-morning. His speech got a little slower and his voice went deeper. He also lost some of his sense of boundaries and got a bit touchier when tired. With most people, this would make Logan cringe, but with Patton it made his chest warm.
The conversation slowly came back around to talk about the exams Logan and Lia were grading which Logan was more prepared to be a participate in.
“Hey, what’s the answer supposed to be for 26?” Lia asked. “My answer’s not lining up with Dr. Bakers.”
“Which test form?” he asked.
“B,” she replied. “It’s this one.” She leaned over to point to a question on the blank exam she’d been using to scribble on. Patton leaned over to glance at it too as Logan wrote it down on some scratch paper to work it out. Ugh. Integration by parts. He was too brain numb for this right now.
“1/2- ln(2)/2,” Patton said after a few moments. Logan looked over at the napkin in front of him where he’d written out the steps in precise script.
Now, Logan tried very hard to not be an academic elitist. He’d honestly been absolutely obnoxious in his high school years but had taken a step back and reevaluated his attitude later in life, helped by being humbled by a few of his first-year graduate classes. He had not cared about Patton’s ability to solve calculus problems. It was not at all why the man captivated his attention in the past month. In fact, he’d been running under the notion that the man was not particularly book smart and he had been perfectly content to strike up an acquaintanceship with him despite that.
So why did he suddenly want to capitulate to what Lia had been needling him about this entire afternoon just because the man could calculate a definite integral.
Perhaps it had little to do with the equation at all.
“Pretty and smart,” Lia commented. Logan kicked her under the table and for good measure made the plastic coffee cup that was teetering on the edge tip all the way over. Lia made a noise of frustration and got up to get some napkins to clean up the mess.
“Please ignore everything she says,” he said to Patton.
“I think it’s sweet,” Patton said. “She seems like a good friend.”
“I would barely call her a friend,” Logan murmured, “She won’t even be an office mate once I manage to get her desk to the roof of the math building.”
Patton laughed, but they were interrupted by something beeping at his waist. He glanced down at what seemed to be a pager. “Oh!” he said. “I’ve got to go, sorry.”
“Of course,” Logan said, blinking at the pager. “I hope it isn’t an emergency.”
“Oh, it’s always an emergency,” Patton mumbled. “Bye Lia,” he said when she returned back to the table. “I’ve got to go, but it was nice meeting you.” He turned to Logan. “I’ll, um, see you later. Probably not today, but later.”
Logan nodded. “Have a good rest of your day,” he said and got a small smile in return.
“Bye Patton, nice to meet you!” Lia called after him, and then he was out the door.
They decided to finish grading for the day about 20 minutes later.
“Well,” Lia said chipperly when they exited the coffee shop. “That was a productive coffee shop grading party.”
Logan rolled his eyes. “Sure.”
“But… we still have over 150 exams to have graded by Monday.”
“Right,” Logan said. “Somebody kill me.”

Every Road Leads Back to You (Ben Hardy x Joe Mazzello)
Summary:  Joe is on holiday in Europe, visiting the BoRhap boys.  His visit to Ben, who is on set in Belfast filming Pixie, brings up many emotions in each of them, and helps them gain some clarity.
A/N:  The IG and Tumblr postings of these two have worn me down!  In this angsty story Ben and Joe, are dealing with their own personal and professional struggles.  In my professional life, I coach people to help them succeed in their jobs and work situations.  This story made me think about the strains of an acting career.   The title is from the Bette Midler song, “Every Road Leads Back to you” from the enjoyable, emotional movie, “For the Boys.”  Song lyrics in the story, which came to me as I wrote, are bolded and referenced at the end.
Thank you!: I’d like to thank all the great FanFic writers and Fandom members who entertain and inspire me.  Special shout outs to @deakysgurl for beta reading this for me; @jessahmewren, my first Tumblr author, encourager and connection;  and @m0etenchandon, @freddie-mercurial, @dayoneliveaid @brownhardyho @brianmay-be @deacytits @deacysfabottomedgirl @its-our-paris @queenismykween
Warnings:  Angst, Love, loss of a parent, some longing. Figuring out life, love and work stuff!!
Joe was on holiday! Following the golf tournament with Gwilym, Joe arrived in Venice and joined Rami, Lucy, and other friends on a luxurious boat ride.  They realized they were being followed by a slew of paparazzi.  They indulged them for a while and finally shut it down by turning their backs and flipping them the bird, successfully causing them to scatter.
As their boat docked, Joe’s attention turned to the last leg of his trip-seeing his best buddy of them all in Belfast, where he was filming.  A smile spread across his face and he took a deep breath, anticipating their reunion.   It had been a long time.
He paused on the dock and texted Ben: “Hey, wrapping in Venice and looking forward to heading to your neck of the woods tomorrow.  Got a Noon plane-should get to you around 6:00.  Please send your address.”
He eyed his phone for a few minutes as Rami spoke, awaiting a response.
“We’re heading to dinner, want to join us, Joe?” Rami asked.
“Thanks, but I’m gonna head back to the hotel,” Joe said.  “I have some things to catch up on before I head out tomorrow.”
“Oh, right,” Rami smiled. “You’re going to visit Ben. I’m sure he could use a break.  Please send him our love. I’m so glad we had this time together.  Love you, dude.”  Joe hugged Rami and Lucy good-bye.
He glanced at his phone as he walked toward a cab.  No response.
Joe retreated to his hotel room. He changed, worked out, got dinner, and left a message for his agent, eager to hear if he solidified an audition for him for a Netflix mini-series and a movie role. He became agitated at the uncertainty-both about career plans-and his imminent travel.  He checked his phone again hoping for a text, still no response. His agitation grew.
That night, Joe lay in bed.  His future held a number of uncertainties-will he need to move to LA again or go on location if he gets these roles? Are these the best he can get?  What about his family, who were still adjusting to the new normal?  It was overwhelming to think about.  Eager to calm and distract himself, he laid back and let his mind flash to warm and wonderful images of BoRhrap: filming over long days; grabbing late night meals; sharing endless jokes; working together so easily.  Suddenly, his breath hitched as he thought about the suffering that intruded into those happy times.  His eyes watered, remembering how he unraveled in slow motion when answered his ringing phone to his sister’s teary voice. Even now, it was hard to believe his dad was gone.   His knees had buckled after hanging up with her. The boys raised him up, physically and emotionally, encircling him as his tears flowed.  He remembered glancing at Ben, whose green eyes burrowed into him, visibly tearing up himself, as he squeezed Joe’s shoulder in their huddled group embrace.
Returning to his present restless night, he didn’t grant those emotions permission to invade him, and he switched his inner screen to the next reel of happier times: the movie premiere and the interviews, as the film rocked the world; the whirlwind of Awards nominations; the Oscars; and their playful Instagram posts, featuring Hardzello and Cardy-B.
Over time, the hype and glow of the movie faded, and the boys parted to pursue other endeavors.  Ben travelled extensively, working on multiple projects.  Calls were strained and rushed.  “I gotta go, buddy…I’m sorry….I  hope we can see each other -- next month, maybe, yeah?”
“Yeah, I know.  Let me know, and I’ll get a ticket…” Joe had responded before he heard Ben carrying on another conversation as the call disconnected.
He missed his dear friend and the times they shared, on and off the set - and the love.  Joe had not allowed himself to dig deeply into what that love meant.  He just knew the magic of those 12 months were like nothing he ever experienced, and he wanted to have Ben in his life.   “When I look and I find…I still love you. (1). And without him, there was an emptiness.
Suddenly, his phone pinged. “Hi, here’s the address….”
That was it.  Not “Can’t wait to see you!”  He felt a little dismissed.  Was Ben fitting him in as a favor?
‘Great, see you soon!” he responded. Relieved to have the details set, he fell asleep, rising early to head to the airport.  He ran to the gate after security dragged for over an hour. Settling into his seat, he welcomed the stillness.
Joe ordered a drink, downed it quickly and then fell asleep as the plane took off.  The sleep became restless as he pictured the visit, fueled by Ben’s less-than-enthusiastic text.  He pictured arriving at Ben’s modern flat with floor to ceiling windows that looked out high over the city.  He envisioned Ben’s co-stars there-mingling, snacking and drinking, easy laughter flowing. He saw Ben in his element, giving hugs, cracking private jokes, looking vibrant, fit and elegant, his new friends fawning over him. Though Ben would try to fill Joe in on the jokes, Joe pictured himself feeling awkward - and replaced.  Joe’s eyes flew open as the plane landed; his heart pounding and tears welled in his eyes, those images of Ben’s new friendships stinging him. It was a mistake to come here, he thought. His stomach tightened as he pictured himself cast in the role as outsider.
“Landed” Joe texted to Ben as he grabbed a cab.  The cab dropped him off and he ambled up the path to the non-descript apartment complex. He knocked on Ben’s door softly.
The door was opened by a solemn Ben. “You made it.  Come in.”  Ben said with a tense grin.  Joe took a deep breath to brace himself and walked through the door tentatively.  He stopped and breathed a sigh of relief.  Ben was alone. There was no party.  No laughter. No new friends.  The furnished apartment was dreary; the living room was lit by one standing lamp with a heavy shade that emitted a dim light, next to the worn couch. There were empty take out containers on the coffee table and free weights strewn about the floor, along with a pile of newspapers and other assorted items.  This wasn’t like Ben, Joe thought, knowing that he was pretty meticulous and organized about his surroundings and himself.
Joe put his bag down and looked up at Ben.  Their eyes locked.  “Hey Buddy,” Joe said as he leaned in to hug him.  Ben hugged him back tentatively and broke the hug quickly. “You want a beer?” Ben asked, as he headed through the small living room toward the back of the small apartment to the tiny windowless kitchen, situated between the living room and bedroom.  “Sure,” Joe replied as he followed Ben.
Ben swung the refrigerator door open to get the beers and Joe peered in behind him.  “Dude, you got things growing and dying in there.  What’s up???” Joe asked with a smirk, feigning outrage.  Ben chuckled. It felt good to laugh.  He had to admit, some things just sounded better with an American accent.  Ben grabbed two beers and as he went to close the frig, Joe held the door open.  “Ok, this needs to be addressed.  Like. Now.”  Joe started quickly removing items from the fridge to the small counter and gathered a handful of rotten food, motioning to the garbage can, which Ben brought over.  “You travelled all this way to clean out my fridge?” Ben asked with crooked grin and a raised eyebrow.
“Aha!” Joe said.  “Takeout rice and chicken, salvageable veggies.”   I can make us a stir-fry!!  And organize your fridge.  You get two for the price of the one. Are you hungry?”
“Uh yeah, that would be great. Thanks.” Actually, Ben wasn’t sure if he was hungry.  He should be. He had toast in the morning and snacks during brief breaks at the catering tent.  His stomach was in knots most of the time, the stress he felt taking up residence there and throwing off his natural patterns.  Ben liked that Joe took charge-to help bring some order into his world, feeling his own tenuous grip  – and he was moved that Joe took steps to care for him.
“Great.  I’ll get this together in a few minutes.  You look tired? Why don’t you sit down and rest?”
“Actually”, Ben said,” I think I’ll take a shower-if that’s ok.”  He put the beers on the kitchen table.
“Sure, sure.”  Ben headed to the bathroom off the bedroom in the back of the flat.  Joe got to work, chopping veggies, heating up the rice and chicken, and creating a sauce. He always felt comfortable in the kitchen and loved to cook.  And there was nothing he’d rather do at this moment then take care of Ben, who was out of sorts.  His eyes didn’t have their usual sparkle and he seemed tense, down and distracted, listless almost. Clearly something was plaguing Ben and he needed to figure it out. As dinner cooked, Joe finished cleaning and organizing the fridge.
Ben came into the kitchen fresh from the shower, running a towel through his glossy hair. He was wearing fresh jeans and a sweatshirt.  Joe couldn’t stop his eyes from lingering on Ben, who literally took Joe’s breath away. Joe turned his body away from the blonde to shift his focus.  “Perfect timing.  Dinner is served,” he said in a British accent, pleased that he remembered how to breath after that brief arousal-and how to slip into a British accent.   He hastily set the table and served the meal.
Ben chuckled at Joe’s mock service. “This was nice of you.  Thanks,” he said, sitting down and throwing the towel on the table.  He rolled the food over his plate gracefully with the fork, taking a few bites to his mouth. Eager to distract the conversation away from himself, he peppered Joe with questions.
““I saw the pap pictures.  Nice ending there,” he smiled.  “How are Rami and Lucy?” he asked.
“Oh, you know, nauseatingly happy and cute, can’t keep their hands off each other for a second.  And that Rami…has a million projects lined up-he sets the world on fire, he can burn brighter than the sun.” (2)  Ben nodded and raised other topics to steer the conversation: The World Cup, Brian and Roger touring with Adam-and how happy they looked.
Ben worked hard to get a few forkfuls in his mouth between the strained discussion.  The food was nourishing and tasty, lovingly prepared by Joe.  He wished he was able to appreciate it.
Joe noticed Ben’s hesitation and stared at him.  “You don’t like it? I mean, I know we’re not at the Oscars After-Party…”
“I do, I do, I’m just…” Ben let his voice trail.  He could feel he was close to the floodgates opening.  It took every ounce of concentration to hold his emotions inside and project a light demeanor, his best acting of the day.  He desperately wanted to show his appreciation to Joe for visiting and taking care of him.  He just wanted things to be normal.  “I’m good,” Ben blurted out, “Really. Just done in by today’s taping.  His folded-up demeanor and dark eyes belied his sentiment.
Joe saw right through it.  “Well, don’t take this the wrong way, but you don’t look good.  I mean, you look sad…distraught really.  And look at this place. It’s a hell hole.  It’s not like you to live like this.  Something’s troubling you.  Please tell me what’s going on.” Joe urged.
Ben looked down and placed his fork on the plate.  Tears gathered in his eyes. “It’s been so horrible.  The script is a mess, constant rewrites.  The director is an asshole. He keeps changing his mind and asking for retakes.  He gets frustrated when we can’t get things right immediately.  How can we? The lines keep changing!! Everyone is so frustrated and tense.  I like the cast ok, but we’ve all actually been bickering.  I hate it.  I wish I never signed on.  It’s so unlike BoRhap.  I …I”
His voice cut off and the tears started to flow down his cheeks.  Joe stood and helped Ben up.  “Come on, let’s sit on the couch,” he said, as he escorted the younger man a few steps into the living room and eased him onto the couch, sitting beside him.  Ben started to heave, his body shaking, as the last two months of pent up frustration, sadness and stress spilled out of him.
“Oh, Ben, oh, Buddy,” Joe leaned into him and hugged him, feeling Ben’s body tense up and shake with emotion finally being let loose.  Joe’s mind raced. He felt totally ill-equipped to soothe Ben.  He recalled his jealous feelings of earlier in the day and felt guilty. While he didn’t want to be replaced, he certainly didn’t want his friend to be miserable.  He felt so selfish-not thinking of what was going on with Ben that led him to be distant.
Joe felt panicked about how to be in the moment with Ben. He took a deep breath and rubbed Ben’s back. He faced him and looked into his eyes, ran his fingers though his hair and then put both of his arms on the younger man’s shoulders.  “Hey. Listen to me.  I know you’re overwrought.  But you can do this. You’re a great actor.  You can’t take all the crap personally.  Whatever they expect-It’s inside of you-you’ll tap into it.  Then you’ll get to the other side of it.”  He brought him in for a close hug, as Ben whimpered.  “It’s ok.  You’ll be ok,” Joe soothed.  Ben stayed in Joe’s arms, letting his friend take on his emotions.
“I feel so badly you have been suffering.  I should have reached out more…” Joe mumbled.
“I didn’t either. I couldn’t.” Ben said. “I felt like a failure. I guess I wanted you to think I was in control.  That I was a professional and could handle anything.”
“You are - and you can.”  Joe replied without missing a beat.
“I wanted to keep the image going. That I’m this leading actor who has it all together.   When in fact, it is all so close to falling apart-and has been for awhile.”  Ben added.
“You don’t have to keep up an image with me.  Look, I know you can do this-you are so talented and you have such a broad bandwidth. This is not an easy career, we’ve chosen.  People see the photo shoots and the bloopers, the interviews and the red carpet.  It looks so easy when they’re in the theater stuffing their faces with popcorn.  We know it requires the constant firing of every synapse in our bodies through grueling days, weaving so much detail together on the spot, and adjusting to constant changes-set, wardrobe, spacing, lines. Plus, we have to tap into the deepest emotional parts of ourselves and our characters constantly.  Remember: We had challenges on BoRhap.  Sure now, we remember the glory and the fun – but there were tough times and we got through them.” Joe said.
Joe stopped talking.  Ben nodded into his neck. He felt Ben heard him. His crying softened.  Joe held him tightly and Ben leaned into Joe between his legs, wrapping his arms around Joe.  And with that embrace, the rest of the world fell away for Joe-the trip, his agent, his family, his next projects, his home.  All of it just faded out of focus.  None of it mattered.  Only Ben mattered.
Ben pulled away, taking a deep breath that coiled through his body.  “I’m sorry.  I know this isn’t what you signed up for when you thought ‘Great, let me visit Ben in Belfast as part of my European holiday.’ You didn’t think you’d find a blubbering, wrecked mess.”  He wiped his nose on his sleeve.
Joe gazed at him.  “I just wanted to be with you.” Ben’s swallowed deeply. Joe continued,  “I feel like I’m always planning, trying to map out every part of my life.  I’m always on my way to something new. But it doesn't matter, cause no matter where I go, every road just seems to lead me back to you.  You’re the one I still want beside me.” (3)
They’re eyes locked, as they held each other’s arms.
Suddenly,  Ben’s phone pinged and he broke from Joe to grab it off the kitchen table. “I have to be on set tomorrow at 11:00 a.m.”
“Good,” Said Joe.  “You can sleep in.” Joe stood up  “It’s late.  We should hit the hay. I can just set up camp here.” He said, as he moved a tattered throw pillow to the arm of the couch.
“No,” Ben said, “Share the bed with me.  Come on, you did it with Cardy B.  Don’t make me jealous.”
They both laughed and moved to the back of the flat.
Joe cleaned up in the kitchen while Ben did his evening ablutions and got into bed. Joe grabbed his bag from the living room, prepared for bed and joined him soon after.
“Goodnight, Ben.  Sleep well.”  Joe said, as he settled into the soft bed and pillow.
Ben turned to look at Joe.  “Goodnight, Joe. And thanks. Thanks for listening and calming me down.  And for helping me focus.  You have no idea how much it helped. I’m going to remember what you said.   I feel like I might finally get a real night’s sleep. Finally.”
Joe smiled.  “Of course.  Glad I could help.” He thought about the advice he gave to Ben and realized it could apply to him too.  He has it in him to deal with whatever happens-and he’ll get to the other side of it too.
They drifted off to sleep.  Joe awoke in the middle of night, aware of movement beside him. Ben was rolling a bit and mumbling to himself.  “Get to the other side….”
“You ok, Ben?”  Joe asked him softy.
Ben didn’t respond, clearly asleep. Suddenly he rolled toward Joe and put his arm around him and spooned into him.  “I love you.” Ben mumbled.
Joe leaned back against him.  “And I.love.you.back.” he whispered.

His Shirt
Pairing: Loki x Reader

You were going to strangle Thor. Without a doubt, the god of thunder was dead.
As you held your soaking wet clothes, you could feel your hatred for him building up. You glared up at him through your hair, snarling, “You. Let. My. Clothes. Flood.”
He knew better than to argue with you and he simply took a step back with his hands held up in surrender. “(y/n), I didn’t mean to!”
It was supposed to be a nice relaxing trip to the beach... Tony had offered to take you all out for a mini vacation to a private beach. You’d jumped for it, hoping to get some nice relaxation out of it. The trip itself was perfect. The packing up to head home? Not so much.
Thor had been on guard duty. He said he didn’t want to swim and so he offered to stay behind and watch the clothes. But he’d fallen asleep on guard duty and let the tide swallow your clothes and towels, drenching them.
You glared at him. “I’m soaking wet, I’m cold, and all the dry things I was supposed to change into are now as wet as I am!”
Tony stood a safe distance away from you, his arms crossed and a scowl on his face. “Well, I hate to break it to you, (y/n), but you can’t be in my car like that.”
You whirled around to face him, an incredulous look on your face. “What?”
“It’s genuine leather! If you’re soaking you’ll ruin it!”
You let your head fall back with a groan. “Come on, Tony! I can’t walk back to the tower; its several miles away!”
Tony shrugged his shoulders as if to say “not my problem” and moved to help Natasha pack up the rest of the beach stuff.
You were about to yell at him that he was being ridiculous when movement in the corner of your eye drew your attention. Turning your head to the side, you saw Thor pulling off his shirt. Your eyebrows knit in confusion. “What the hell are you doing?”
Bare chested and with a sheepish grin on his face, he offered the white wad of fabric out to you. “Here. It’s my fault that your clothes are wet so it’s only fair that you get to wear mine in turn.”
You hesitated for a bit before heaving a sigh and taking it. “Fine. If it’ll get me home...” You tugged the shirt on over your swimsuit and turned to Tony. “Satisfied?” you demanded looking at him pointedly.
He did a once over before nodding. “Yes. Now, everyone, hop in!”
The ride back to the Avengers tower was uncomfortable. Your swim suit was still a little damp and had turned the shirt see through where your swim suit was pressed against it. But the shirt did get you into Tony’s car and granted you passage home. Finally the drive ended and you were back at the tower. You all crammed into the elevator to go to the common floor and settled in for the ride. All you wanted to do was get out of there, go to your room, get in a nice hot shower, and into some comfy clothes.
The doors opened out to the common room where several people sat down on the couches. Bruce was browsing on a laptop and Sam was playing a game on his phone, but the person your eyes were drawn to was Loki.
The trickster god sat perched on the couch with a book spread wide on his lap and looking as glorious as ever.
It wasn’t a big secret that you were crushing on Loki. You’d fallen hard for him when he’d first come to live at the tower as his penance for New York. He’d always been aloof and detached from the others, but he never seemed that way with you. He quickly became one of your best friends and you quickly developed some feelings for him.
Not that he’d feel anything like that for you, though. You knew better. So, you just settled for admiring him from afar.
He glanced up from his book as soon as the elevator arrived, briefly looking over your group, returning to his book, and then doing a quick double take to stare at you.
You could feel your cheeks heat up under his intense gaze and you muttered under your breath about the “stupid shirt” and “stupid Thor who got my stupid stuff wet.” Ducking your head, you hurried past the lounge towards your suite.
As you ran, you neglected to see the pair of green eyes that alternated between staring at the back of your head and glaring daggers at his brother.
———
You ran into Loki again the next day as you were hunting Thor to return his shirt.
He was sitting on the couch, once again reading his book when you stopped to talk to him. “Hey, Loki? Have you seen Thor anywhere?”
At the mention of his brother, he stiffened a bit. “Why would you be looking for him?”
You shuffled nervously. “I, uh, I have his shirt and I want to return it to him.”
“Oh.” His expression turned sour and he turned his gaze down back to his book, mumbling something over his breath.
Even when straining your ears, you couldn’t make out the words. “Um, what?”
“Nothing,” he muttered. He paused for all of five seconds before speaking up again. “I just don’t see what’s so great about him and his stupid clothes! Mine are softer!” Loki muttered. “I’m the one with the silks and the satins and he has the cotton.”
You frowned. “Wh-What? Loki, what does that have to do with anything? You almost sound like you’re—” And that’s when it dawned on you that it might be more than the clothes that were bothering him. A small smile quirked your lips up as you stared at him incredulously. “Loki, are you jealous?”
“What?” he snapped. “How could you possibly think that I am jealous of him?”
You crossed your arms across your chest, pulling Thor’s shirt closer to your body. “Oh, I don’t know. Cause you’re acting like it?” You chuckled. “Thor let my things get flooded at the beach yesterday and Tony wouldn’t let me ride in the car wet so Thor gave me his shirt. Nothing is happening between us. He’s like a brother to me.”
Loki sat still in thought, pondering over what you had just said. Slowly he looked up, with curious eyes. “Are you sure?”
You couldn’t help but bark a laugh. “Of course I’m sure, you moron.” You uncrossed your arms and set the shirt down on the back of the couch. “There’s nothing to fret about. Only one man could take my heart, and it’s not your brother.”
Once gain his stare hardened. “Who is it? “
“It’s you, you dork. It’s always been you and it will always be you.” You rolled your eyes. “You are so oblivious sometimes.”
He looked like he’d been smacked in the face. “P-Pardon?”
“You heard me, Loki.” You shrugged. “I mean, if you don’t like me back that way, I totally get it and we can still be friends but—”
“I do!” he said quickly cutting you off. As soon as the words had spilled out of his mouth, he froze like a deer in headlights. “I-I mean I don’t...” He sighed and let his head fall back with a groan. “No, I do mean that. I do care about you in that way, (y/n).” Rolling his neck, he brought his gaze back to you. “I have for a while now. You seem to get me better than anyone else and I...” He shook his head.
You smiled softly. “Loki...”
He hummed. “I guess that what I’m trying to get at is that, if you’re up for it, I’d more than love to take you out to coffee sometime.”
“I’d love to go out with you,” you said.
He looked a little taken aback by your quick acceptance of his offer. But, nonetheless, he was obviously pleased. “Th-That’s wonderful!”
You couldn’t help but chuckle. “I’m glad. But, uh, Loki?”
“Yes, love?”
You felt your face warm up at the pet name, but you had to do what you came out here to do. “Where’s Thor?”
“Thor?”
“Yeah. I still have to give him back his shirt.”

The twins get to take care of their sister for a weekend, finally able to make good on some birthday promises. Not everything goes as planned, but they still have a great time together.
(Sequel to Dinner and Diatribes, should be able to stand on it's own)
Vax was used to being a light sleeper. It didn't take much to wake him, the quiet creaking of his door and the little bit of morning light poking through, in his otherwise darkened room, was definitely enough to rouse him again. Then he felt his mattress dip down slightly, and groaned as Vex laid a hand on his shoulder to shake him awake.
“I'm up,” he muttered, while also dragging his pillow over his head. “What do you want?”
He heard Vex sigh. “Well, brother. I, uh, was wondering if you'd like to go to the national park with me and Velora today?”
That was enough to at least make him sit up, just to give her a confused look. “What happened to Percy?”
After all the trouble they'd gone through to make sure that the day would go perfectly, he couldn't think of a good reason why Percy would suddenly decide not to come. Unless something had happened, of course, but if it was anything serious he was sure Vex would have said so by now.
And really, they'd spend weeks preparing for this weekend. After Vex and Percy had gifted Velora a coupon to visit the nearby national park with her for her last birthday, they'd still needed to convince their father to let it happen, and make sure everyone actually had some time to spare. In the end they'd even been able to get Syldor to let her spend the night, so they could have dinner with Keyleth and Shaun and maybe even take her shopping the next morning. Or at least to Gilmore's Glorious Goods, which the girl still had a coupon for as well.
All of this was the reason Vax had taken night shifts all week at the diner he worked at, so he could make sure he'd have this evening and the weekend off. And why, in turn, he was respectively tired now.
Vex bit her lip and heaved another sigh. “We got a call this morning, apparently Cassandra got super sick over night.” She saw the look on his face and was quick to reassure her brother. “Nothing life threatening, but she's hardly able to leave the bathroom. So there's no way she can get any official work done today, and Percy had to jump in for her.”
Vax was still not sure he completely understood. “But... Percy isn't even in Whitestone. Wasn't he sleeping over when I got home earlier?”
“He was,” Vex agreed. “He had someone pick him up thirty minutes ago and drive him to the Alabaster Lyceum, which is also where we need to pick up Velora in a bit.”
Vax hadn't missed his sister's use of the word 'we', but he also didn't argue. Even with less than three hours of sleep, he wouldn't miss out on spending a day with his little sister. “Alright, alright... I'll come,” he muttered, finally getting up. He stretched his arms over his head, letting out a huge yawn, and then started to search for fresh clothes. “Fucking rich people and their teleportation circles. Gimme twenty minutes.”
It took a bit longer than the promised twenty minutes, but eventually they both made it out of the door freshly showered and with their hiking gear packed up. And Trinket, of course, running behind them with way too much energy for Vax' taste.
“Keys,” Vex demanded, stopping in front of Vax' mini van. “You're way too tired to drive.”
“And too tired to argue with you,” he agreed, handing them over before getting settled in the passenger seat. His sister took another moment to get Trinket in the back. They'd long given up on laying out towels or blankets in the back, since it had never really helped with keeping the dog hair at bay. At this point they could just hope to never befriend anyone with a severe dog allergy.
Finally, Vex settled down in the driver's seat beside him, turned on the radio, and carefully backed out of the parking spot. Before they'd even left their neighbourhood, Vax was dozing off again.
Thankfully, his sister didn't wake him up again until they were parked right in front of the Travel and Communication Center of the Lyceum. But then he was roughly shaken awake and forced back out of the car. Trinket had to stay behind, with Vex promising him a quick return. That and a few treats made him lay back down without an issue.
On the way in Vax was still rubbing his eyes, so Vex took over the talking again. She could already tell from the look the receptionist was giving them that he knew they weren't the usual clientele. She had their paperwork ready though, and the years in Syngorn and around her father's friends helped her to keep up her smile and ignore the man's behaviour.
“Looks like everything works out,” the clerk eventually agreed, after giving her ID a much closer look than what either of them felt was necessary. Sending a minor through a teleportation circle on their own required some precautions though, even if she was the daughter of a high ranking diplomat. “Follow me, please.”
He got up, and after sharing a brief look and rolling their eyes, the twins followed. They were left in a small waiting room, with the reassurance that their charge would be brought to them as soon as she arrived. Luckily that didn't take long. Soon enough they could hear footsteps approaching, and as the door to their left opened they were faced with a very excited girl clutching on to her treasured owlbear plushie.
“Vax, Vex! You're here!” She immediately tore away from the guard who had apparently been assigned to her, and the man watched on with a smile as the twins got up and all three siblings smushed together for a group hug.
“Oh man, look at you,” Vax chuckled, once they'd all taken a step back again, and as he gave a playful tug on her hair. “I could have sworn you were smaller the last time we saw you.”
Velora grinned and leaned back against her sister instead, prompting Vex to wrap her arms around the small shoulders. “Mom says I'm growing like the weeds in our garden, too, but I haven't actually checked since my birthday.”
Vax was about to reply again, but the guard behind them cleared his throat. “I'll be off then,” he informed them with a smile. “Unless you need my help finding your way out?”
“No, no we'll be fine,” Vex assured the man. “Thank you so much.”
He replied with a brief nod and then left the three of them alone. Not wanting to waste any time, they headed out immediately. “So how was your trip?” Vex asked, just as they left the building. “Did you have to get up very early?”
“No, not really,” she told them, happily walking between her siblings. “But Dad was too busy to drop me off, he had a servant take me instead.”
“A servant? What about Devana, couldn't she have dropped you off instead?” Vax asked with a frown. He wasn't sure which teleportation circle she'd used in Syngorn, but if the location there was anything like the Lyceum it probably hadn't been the nicest experience to be there all by herself.
“She left earlier this morning to run errands, because he'd promised to take me,” Velora replied with a shrug. “She's probably going to be mad at him if he tells her.”
“Well, he deserves it,” Vex muttered. “But let's focus on you being here now, alright? Look, we got someone else who's very happy to meet you.” And with that she took the last few steps to the car and opened the trunk, finally releasing Trinket. The dog quickly jumped out, giving a few yaps of excitement as he circled them a few times, and did his best to wedge himself between them.
Velora grinned and kneeled down, seemingly delighted to let him slobber all over her face. So while those two were busy with greeting each other, Vex took the girl's backpack from her and put it in the back seat with their other gear.
“Alright, ready to go?” she asked finally, helping the girl to her feet again as she agreed. “We got a whole National Park waiting for us after all, so I hope you're ready.”
Velora looked between her two siblings, suddenly turning a bit confused. “Oh, okay. Is Percy waiting for us at the Park then? I thought he was coming with us?”
“Right, about that,” Vex sighed. “There was a bit of an emergency in Whitestone so he got called away, he wants you to know that he's really sorry though and he'll find a way to make it up to you. But hey, with a bit of luck, he'll be back by dinner.”
Velora deflated a bit, her happy mood from earlier not quite evaporating but definitely taking a hit. “Okay... that's fine though,” she said quickly. “He doesn't have to make it up to me, I know his work is super important.”
“But he made a commitment when he said he'd be here today, it's okay to be upset by that,” Vax told her softly. “Doing something else with you is the least he can do, even if it's not his fault that circumstances changed.” When she just shrugged at that and looked down he reached out again, ruffling her hair. “Either way, we'll still have a lot of fun today, I'm sure. Because guess what, I'm Percy's stand in.”
“You'll be coming with us, you're not just here to pick me up?” she asked, her smile growing once more. “That's pretty cool, I'll take that.”
“Hah, you hear that, Stubby? I'm cool.”
Vax did his best not to fall asleep again on their continued drive to the Park, instead engaging with the other two a bit more as they started talking in the car.
Velora told them about school, and how her friends had all been a little bit jealous that she got to leave on a weekend trip so close to their exams. In turn, the twins told her about some of the mischief they had gotten up to when still attending the same school, and that definitely helped with passing the time.
Before they knew it, the broad country roads had turned into narrow passages winding through dark woods. Sunlight filtered through the leaves above them, and it wasn't like Vex needed to turn on the car lights just yet, but the loss of light still gave their surroundings a bit of an eerie feeling. It was nice, in Vax' opinion, and he could see Velora looking out the window with a transfixed expression as well.
They passed the entrance a few minutes later, gladly accepting a map and some tourist information from the lady manning the booth at the moment. As Vex started to look for a parking lot that wouldn't cost them an arm and a leg, Vax took a closer look at the map.
“So, Stubby, did you have a route in mind already?” he asked, studying the various paths that lead through the park and their assigned challenge ratings. If it was just the two of them, they could have easily taken one of the longer routes, meant for more experienced hikers. But with Velora in tow, he was sure Vex had picked out something else.
“Yeah, I found one a while ago that should be really nice,” she replied, proving him right. “It allows dogs, as long as they're leashed, and has some nice observation points along the way.”
“Do you think we'll see any owlbears?” Velora asked immediately, as she leaned forward to wedge herself between the two front seats. Vax playfully pushed her back, grinning slightly when he was met with more resistance than he'd expected.
Vex was the one to actually give her an answer, while she finally found a parking spot she seemed to like. “You know I can't promise you that, but we'll just have to wait and see.”
If he was honest, Vax wasn't sure if he really wanted to run into one of these things. There was a reason most people were afraid of the beasts, and it had a lot to do with claws and sharp edged beaks. Not that there had actually been any owlbear attacks in the recent years, but it still sounded like an encounter he would prefer to avoid.
He kept that thought to himself though, and as they all finally got out of the car he turned to Velora with a cheery look. “Maybe we'll get lucky, who knows. But to see anything, we need to start moving. You got everything you need?”
The girl smiled back at him and nodded, taking her backpack as Vex held it out to her. “I got lots of water and food!”
“Great, I think we can cover the rest,” he chuckled, checking his own bag once more for the additional first aid kit, maps, his powerbank, and a heavy duty flashlight. Vex carried the same gear with her, just in case anything happened to one of their bags. She always had an old satellite phone with her as well though, which they'd never needed, but it was another one of those “just in case” things.
Vex also looked about ready to head into the forest, only waiting for the two of them to finally follow. But a last look up and down his little sister had Vax stop. “You got a jacket with you, right?”
She looked at him and frowned, then looked down at the cardigan she was wearing. “Yeah, this one,” she told him.
Vax resisted the urge to facepalm. “That's not really- you really don't have anything else with you?” he asked again. Syngorn rarely got really cold, not even in winter, but surely someone should have realized that sending her over in nothing but a cardigan would be a stupid idea. Well, apparently not.
“If we're in the shadows all day and sweating, there's no way that thing will keep you warm,” he finally explained, when he realized she still looked rather lost. “We need to get you a proper jacket first.”
He looked over to Vex, who had already started wandering a few feet away, no doubt 'hearing the call of the forest' or whatever she always did when they managed to get on one of these little outings. “Vex!” he called over, at least successfully getting her attention. “We need to hit the shop first. Velora needs a jacket.”
“What do you mean she-” She stopped in the middle of her sentence, and Vax shrugged as an answer. Sure, it sucked, especially because the shops in the park were all horribly overpriced, but they really didn't have much of a choice.
So they accepted the change in plans for what it was, and tried not to be too obviously annoyed about it. After all, it wasn't Velora's fault, and they could both see that she looked a bit uncomfortable now. Vex quickly laid an arm around her, tucking her closer again as they walked.
“Well, let's see it from the positive side, it just means we'll be hitting the souvenir stage early,” she joked, hoping to cheer her up a bit. “Let's have a look around, maybe you find something else you want to watch out for while we're out there.”
The shop was right next to the tourist information, and both buildings were- well, not exactly overrun, but definitely not empty, either. They pushed past a family with two little boys at the entrance, where Vex had to tie trinket down, and dodged some more people inside, just to make it to the clothes section.
There were a lot of t-shits and hoodies, all with big logos of the national park on the front, or simple nature prints. Cute, but not what they were looking for. Vax could already see Velora's eyes flitting from one thing to the next, catching on some things longer than others, and he tried to file all of it away for later. Finally, they found some jackets that actually looked to be functional.
“You wanna try some on?” Vex asked, trying to guess her sister's size as she held out a few. “Is your favorite color still green?”
“Yeah... are you- are you sure though?” Velora asked back. “I know they're expensive. You don't have to.”
“Nonsense, you need a jacket, so we'll get you one,” Vex assured her gently. “The last thing we want is for you to get sick today, or even just be cold all the time. Don't worry about it, okay?”
The girl didn't seem quite convinced yet, but at least she let Vex force her into a few of the jackets, until they found one that fit pretty well. She ended up picking the purple one over the green though, prompting Vax to make a joke about how she would need to raid Gilmore's wardrobe at some point.
They brought it up to the counter, and Vax distracted Velora by making fun of an incredibly tacky snowglobe while Vex paid. She swallowed a bit at the prize, but remembered that the nightshifts Vax had been pulling did not only mean he had the weekend off, but were paid a little bit better as well. Not much, but it made the extra charge more bearable.
Picking up Trinket again on the way out, they finally, finally, started walking towards the path Vex had picked out for them. White signs with blue dots marked the way along the trees, easy enough to follow, and the trail was still wide enough that they could easily ignore the few other people they met along the way.
It didn't take long before Vex started pointing things out to them, from small plants and mushrooms to all the different birds they came across. She even stopped a couple of times so they could get a closer look at something, and within the first two hours, Velora had already stuffed her pockets with all kinds of interesting looking rocks, small feathers, and other muck lying around.
Vax was sure that Syldor would be absolutely horrified if he saw her like that, and that made the whole thing even better. He grew a bit more quiet though, mostly letting the other two talk. His lack of sleep was catching up with him.
Eventually, they reached a small clearing with picnic tables set up, and a small river flowing near by. “Should we take our first break?” Vex asked, looking back to the two others. Receiving a shrug from Velora and a relieved, and maybe just the tiniest bit desperate, nod from her brother, she smiled slightly and claimed one of the tables for them.
Velora started to line up her little treasures on the wooden top, as Vex got out some of the lighter snack foods. She pushed one of the water bottles closer to her brother, who'd sat down and almost immediately rested his head on the table, looking like he was about to fall asleep again any moment.
“Velora, darling, do me a favor and clean your hands in the stream,” she told their little sister, hoping it would wash off the worst of the dirt. For everything else, they had hand sanitizer. While Velora did just that, Vex nudged her brother's shoulder. “Hey, you okay? Do we need to move a bit slower?”
“Hmmmnah. I'm good,” he muttered, giving her a weary smile. He sat up properly at least though, taking a few swigs from the bottle she'd offered him. “It's fun. And you know what, with you playing plant lexicon the whole way, I was thinking, next time we should take Keyleth.”
“So I can watch you two making gooey eyes at each other the whole time? Not a chance.”
“As if you and Percy are any better,” he huffed, amused. “And yes, maybe, but also for another reason. You know how much she knows about all that stuff as well, I'm sure it would be fun.”
Vex shrugged, finally settling down beside him. “Sure, we can ask her next time. I didn't know she was into hiking?”
He grimaced a bit at that. “Actually, not sure if she is. It's always just kinda been our thing, you know? I never asked. But she sure likes plants, so... I don't know, we don't have to.”
“Hey, doofus, slow down,” she chuckled, nudging his side again. “I really don't mind. Let's bring Gilmore and Percy, too, if they want to. We'll just be really disgusting and make it some kind of weird double date.”
She got a soft laugh in return, and Vax nodded. “Sure, that sounds good. I- yeah, I think I'd like that. Let's ask them, some time.”
Velora came back at that point, settling down again with a smile and accepting Vex' hand sanitizer without any protest. She was the first one done with her food as well, and then seemed to be patiently waiting for the twins to finish up. Vex turned to her eventually, giving her a bit of an amused look. “You don't have to sit here and wait, you know. Look around a bit, see if you can find more interesting stuff.”
“Are you sure?” Velora asked, frowning again. “Shouldn't I stay close to you or something?”
“As long as you stay where we can see you, it's fine,” Vax assured her with a shrug, while cutting his apple into continuously smaller pieces. He wasn't too motivated to eat. “Just, you know, don't do anything stupid.”
“Like what?”
“Like falling into the stream, for example. Or climbing trees. I'm pretty sure that's not allowed here,” Vex chimed in again, stealing one of the fruit pieces from her brother.
Velora still seemed surprised that they let her roam around on her own at all, and apparently feared that they would change their mind again. She was out of her seat faster than they could blink.
When she was already halfway back to the little river she turned around again, calling back to her siblings again. “Can I take Trinket?”
“He's not allowed to leave the path, sorry!” Vex called back, and watched as her sister nodded and then went back to the spot where she'd washed her hands earlier. Whatever it was she'd found, it seemed to be interesting enough to keep her attention for a while, and they were both able to finish their own rations without boring the girl too much.
Once back on the path, she told them about the fish she'd seen, and proceeded to describe them in as much detail as possible, asking Vex once more to identify each and everyone of them. In the few cases where Vex was stumped, Vax made up new ones, with increasingly absurd names and abilities.
He was in the middle of telling his sisters about the 'Red Striped Bloodsucker Fish' (ignoring Velora's question if fish even had blood), when Vex grinned and shook her head at him. “Vampirism, huh? I know a plant that helps against that.”
“A plant? No way, vampires aren't even real,” Velora protested, changing her focus from one twin to the other again.
“Oh they used to be, it's just that no one's seen one in a few decades,” Vex insisted. “That doesn't mean they don't exist anymore.” Seeing that the girl still looked unimpressed, she shrugged. “Alright, to be fair, glissfoil also has a lot of other uses. It can cure infections, helps against minor illnesses, and you can make very tasty tea out of it.”
“Which also happens to help against hangovers,” Vax mumbled, chuckling softly when Vex, expectedly, slugged him in the shoulder for his comment.
“She doesn't need to know that part yet. But yes, it's all in all just very neat. Would you like to look for some?” The last part was directed at Velora again, and she agreed easily enough. Vex described the plant, small, green leaves with a yellow-ish tint towards the edge, and they all started to keep an eye out for it.
They were walking uphill now, the path becoming more steep ahead of them and forcing them to slow down quite a bit, but they still made good headway. Still no glissfoil though. That didn't keep Velora from picking up more of her other miscellaneous items though, and when she finally ran out of space in her own pockets, the twins quickly offered to take some for her instead. The new jacket as well as her jeans were both streaked with dirt by now, not that she seemed to mind.
Halfway up the hill they took another break, Vex promising them that it wouldn't be much further now. And indeed, a good forty-five minutes later, they made it to the top. It really wasn't much more than a hill, but still offered a nice overview of the valley that now stretched out in front of them. Again, there was a bit of a clearing, and benches and tables cluttered around the centre of it.
But before Vax could suggest they settle down to enjoy the view a bit, Vex had already taken Velora by the hand and dragged her off to the edge, apparently very intent to show her something. So he sighed and followed suit, taking another sip from his water bottle.
“Alright, do you see the caves down there?” Vex asked, pointing them out for Velora as best as she could. “Right there, in the small dip between the cliffsides?”
Velora searched for it for a moment, but then nodded. “Yeah, yeah I see it. Why, what's in there? Can we go there?”
“No no no, that's definitely off the paths,” she replied quickly. “And even if it was allowed, it would probably be a bad idea. You know what kind of animal supposedly lives in those caves?”
The girl shook her head this time, but the look she gave Vex was very hopeful, so she seemed to have a pretty good idea at least.
Vex grinned. “Owlbears. Right there. It's just a few animals, who apparently broke away from the main herd a while ago for some reason, but ever since they've been sighted here, the path's become a lot more popular.”
As Vex had been talking, Velora's smile had already grown impossible wide. She stepped as close to the edge as she could now, staring at the entrance of the cave intensely. “Can we stay for a bit?” she asked quietly, as if already afraid to spook the animals away.
“Half an hour or so, sure,” Vex agreed. To Vax' surprise, she took a blanket out of her backpack. Which wasn't part of their usual luggage, which meant she'd been planning this, and why was he even surprised about this. But she put it down on the ground, leaving enough space for the three of them to settle down right there.
While they were waiting for something to happen, Vax got his knife out again from earlier, and started to twirl it around his fingers in an attempt to stay alert. Velora noticed it, of course, and watched him for a few moments with great curiosity.
“Can you teach me how to do that?” she asked finally. “You promised you'd teach me how to use the dagger, remember? The one you got me for my birthday.”
“Of course I remember,” he chuckled. “And yeah, I guess I can teach you how to do this, too... not with a knife though.”
“Why not?”
“Because I don't want to be responsible for any lost fingers, honestly. We'll start with a pen and you get to work your way up from there.” She still grumbled about that answer, but seemed satisfied enough by it. For now.
They spend a few more minutes looking out over the caves, but with no luck. Not a single owlbear reared it's head, and sitting on the ground was slowly getting cold. Velora was leaning against Vax by now, all but in his lap, and the journey seemed to be catching up with her as well. She looked a lot more tired by now then when they'd started their trip.
Before either of her siblings could fall asleep on her, Vex pushed them to move again. “Alright, I think that's enough time spend here,” she sighed, getting up and offering Velora a hand to pull her up. “Sorry we didn't see anything, darling.”
“It's fine, it was still really cool to see where they live,” Velora assured her, smiling again as she got to her feet and leaned over the edge just one more time. “Maybe we can come back one day, and have more luck then.”
“Yeah, why not. That sounds like a good idea,” Vax agreed, stifling a yawn. “Hey Stubby, how long until we're back at the car? Do we walk back the way we came?”
Vex shook her head and took a moment to study the map they'd taken with them. “It's a circular path, and the way back is way shorter. Shouldn't take more than an hour. You two ready to leave?”
She got two nods, so turned back around to lead the way again. Their little group was a lot more quiet on their way back though, a weary silence hanging over them, but at least it didn't diminish their fun in any way. Velora still looked around with an attentive eye, pointing out birds and other small critters when she saw them.
A good twenty minutes passed before she caught something a lot more interesting though. Right next to the path was a beaten track that had clearly been caused by some kind of animal, something big. The surrounding bushes and branches were damaged, showing that something had moved through them with little care.
Velora was the first there to investigate, and probably would have disappeared right into the forest had Vex not held her back. “What do you think did this? Do you think it's still here? Can it see us, do you think it's dangerous?” All her question came in quick succession, leaving Vex little time to answer.
Gently pushing her sister back towards Vax she ventured a few steps forward herself, trying to see if there actually was any danger to them. But it seemed like whatever had crossed the path here, it had done so a while ago.
“No, it's probably long gone,” she called back to the other two, turning around again to make her way back. Which was when she noticed them, lying on the ground just a few feet away from the path. A big, brown-ish feather, with black stripes all the way down, along with some smaller ones. Most of them were damaged in some way, but somehow, the big feather had remained unscathed. And she knew exactly what animal it came from.
Carefully picking it off the ground and holding it behind her back, she finally walked back to Vax and Velora. “Guess what I found,” she told her sister, grinning in the knowing way that only older siblings could pull off sometimes.
“What?”
“No, you have to guess,” she insisted, only seeming more amused when Velora rolled her eyes.
But the girl took the challenge, squinting slightly as if she was trying to see right through her sister. “Hmm... oh, you finally found Glissfoil!” She grinned widely, absolutely sure of herself and that she'd bested her sister in this somehow.
But Vex just shook her head. “Nu-uh. That would have been cool, too, I'll grant you that. But I found something way better.” Not wanting to torture her any longer though, she presented the feather, giving her a pointed look. “You know what this is from?”
It immediately got her an excited gasp, and with a gentle nudge from Vax Velora reached out, taking it into her own hands. “Wooow, this is so cool,” she whispered. “Do you think it's from one of the owlbears living in the caves?”
Vex nodded, briefly looking back to the spot where she'd found the feather. “We're not too far away, it's plausible. I hope that makes up a bit for not seeing one live.”
Velora nodded eagerly, still studying the feather closely. Then she looked from her new favorite possession to Vax, and seemed to get an idea. “Can you put it in my hair?” she asked, holding the feather out to her brother this time. “You know, like you sometimes do for Vex?”
“Oh... yeah, sure. C'mere,” he told her, pulling her a bit closer and turning her around, facing her away from him. “Stubby, you got a hairband?”
Vex didn't, but had no issue with taking out the one she was currently wearing, and Vax made quick work of the task in front of him. He produced the same trademark side-braid that was usually reserved for Vex, sure that she wouldn't mind, and then secured the feather behind one ear. It was a bit big, but all in all still looked very nice.
Velora was definitely happy, still brimming with excitement all the way back to the car. And despite the fact that she swore up and down that she didn't need anything else, the twins insisted on hitting the gift shop again before actually leaving. Velora ended up choosing a mug with, to no one's surprise, more owlbears printed on the front, and spend a few additional minutes fawning over a very nice selection of pocket knifes with Vax.
But before they knew it they were all back in the car, all the new souvenirs packed away in Velora's bag, and on their way home. It didn't take long either for a very slight snoring to start up in the car, both from the backseat and the shotgun position. They weren't even officially out of the park. But Vex didn't mind much, not even when Trinket joined her sleeping siblings halfway through. At least that way, no one could complain about her choice in music.

No borders - Chapter 1
word count: 2565
SUMMARY:
“It’s just us 5 right?”
“Forever.”
“No men allowed… ever. Let’s promise to eachother that we will never let any man come in between us!”
“Never!”
Naive promises told at a young age, just between 5 best friends. They promised their world to eachother, “best friends ‘till death breaks us apart”. 10 Years passed. The same 5 girls, but no longer blinded by those “stupid promises”. It will be broken. The promise of a lifetime. The lust of love is what makes us all see unclear. We lose our friends, or soulmates, we fall for the unknown, we fall for lies and for the feeling of being important to someone who will drag us far away from who truly matters.
“Forget about the world… forget about them… right now, it’s only me and you. They don’t need to know that I love you.”

CHAPTER 1
“Buckle up, LESBIANS! We’re going shopping!”
“What… the… fuck.” Says Seulgi half-asleep, looking like a mess, standing on the edge of the bed.
“Are you deaf! I need a new dress, girl, and GUESS WHAT, you and Joohyun are the only ones home!” says Yeri while waving the keychain on her index finger. Yeri has always been like this. The soul, the spirit, the jokester of the “group”. They all “hated” her extravaganza, but what could they do? After all, without Yeri, they would’ve been a mess of boring, lazy and soulless singles. She is the one that takes them to all the parties, or more to say, ‘drags them’. They met all their friends through Yeri, including most of their male friends. After all “a male is a girl’s best friend”, to quote Yeri.
“Did I just hear-“ Joohyun makes a pause while scratching her messy-morning hair, standing in the doorway. “Yerim… What a pleasant surprise…” says Joohyun through gripped teeth.
Joohyun , or ‘Irene’ as her nickname is, has never been like this. When younger, Irene was very eccentric and party-animal. She was just like Yeri. Now, years have put their pattern on her… Tired, exhausted of life… It’s true, she’s only 27 years old, she’s still a “young flower”, but her big, dark eye circles say otherwise. She doesn’t live with Seulgi, but last night it happened that these two went out drinking and Irene was too drunk for Seulgi to just let her walk to her own home like that. So she took care of her dear “best-friend” and took her to sleep in her immense penthouse.
Secret to how Yeri got into the house? Easy. All 5 of them got a spare key to eachother’s houses/apartments. And Yeri makes use of them the most.
“So…” says Yeri while serving herself with a glass of orange juice from Seulgi’s fridge. “Had a sleepover without US?” putting the accent on “us”.
“Yerim… don’t be like this.” Says Seulgi while scratching the back of her neck. “Irene just wanted to go out drinking after she got back from the photoshoot. She got drunk. I took her here so she won’t fall and break her head in her apartment or something and that was it. No sexy pajamas and cocky movies.”
“Hahaha. Knew it, y’all don’t know how to have fun without me.” Says Yeri confidently while sipping sassily on her juice.
“Bullshit.” Says Seulgi while rolling her eyes. “Anyway…what do you need a new dress for?” continues Seulgi while grabbing an apple and biting on it savurously.
“A date.”
Seulgi chokes.
“A what?”
“A date.”
“With who?”
“A handsome guy I met at my last convention. Damn you should’ve seen those magic brown eyes and-“
“Yerim!” Yeri gets starled by the small scream of Irene who was standing on top of the stairs, arms crossed. “What date… What guy…?”
“Irene.. Seulgi.. don’t worry girls… He’s nice, I promise! Y’all will be the first ones to meet him if our first date works well! PINKY PROMISE?”
“Ew… where are you? Kindergarten?” says Irene, rolling her eyes and judging the younger one.
“Grandma…” mocks Yeri while hitting the table with the glass.
“I support you…” whisper Seulgi supportively and gives Yeri a small hug.
“Thank you baby girl… You are the best! NOW COME ONE COWGIRLS! We got an uber to catch!”
Irene was wearing her signature style: always classy, in a fancy suit or a gucci dress, never wearing heels in her free time, only loafers. Seulgi on the other hand, has a different style: “boyfriend-material” as Seungwan calls her, always wearing ripped jeans, a plain t-shirt, a Gucci cap, and some sneakers. They’re both models and they encounter all types of styles and looks, but these are definitely their own pattern.
Yeri walks up in front of the two girls, proudly walking on her 10cm Louboutin heels and her short black summer dress paired with a leather jacket.
“What is she so excited for… psh.” Sighs Irene.
“Irene… let the girl be… she is 21 now. She can’t be single forever. You know Yeri, nothing will come between us and her. No guys, remember?” Reassures Seulgi while giving a small smile to Irene’s straight face.
“It’s whatever to me…” and roughly removes Seulgi’s hand from her shoulder which made Seulgi sigh at the attitude of her Unnie.
Sometimes, they all miss old Irene… More like Joohyun. Since “Adopting” this stage name, “Irene” she became cold towards her friends, stone-hearted and ignorant. This is what everyone at her work place thinks of her, but her friends know. They know the real Joohyun. They know she loves them more than her own life. They know Joohyun would risk it all for all of them. She is the Unnie and the one that keeps this “group” together.
--
“What do you think she’s doing….” Says the girl, impatient and walking all around the room.
“Sooyoung… can you calm down?” says Chung Ha while applying some more blush to her already rosy cheeks. “I am sure your little ‘best friend’ is probably at work or out with some friends. Why such panic when you should put on that mini-skirt.”
Chung Ha is Sooyoung’s colleague and the only “friend” she gets along with her at her work-place, the only friend she has besides her 5 best-friends. Chung Ha is definitely the most beautiful female Sooyoung has even seen and she could swear she caught herself staring at her beauty from time to time. It’s impossible not to get lost in her looks. She’s got everything you could want in a model. And this is what Chung Ha is, the face of the company where Sooyoung works. As for her, she is just an average model, with low self-confidence. When she looks at Chung Ha, she thinks “oh damn… maybe I should go to the gym more… maybe I need more make-up… maybe I need a bigger size at the bra-“. But she is just underestimating her because of her rough past.
Growing up, Sooyoung had only misfortune in her life. Being bullied since kindergarten for coming from a family with only one parent (her father), in high school suffering from all the fake rumors that she is coming from a poor family and at work… she once got a scandal at her ex-office about rumours that she “harassed” a female worker. All of these were false obviously, Sooyoung couldn’t dare to raise a finger to anyone. All she wanted in this world was to feel loved.
Sooyoung soon leaves a text-message to Yeri asking her to call back when she sees the message and then she goes out from the backstage and goes to rule the small catwalk she had to do in front of some small modelling agency managers. She nailed it, especially because before this, Chung Ha gave her some encouraging words. Chung Ha was her muse.
The curtains fall down and now its silence. There’s not a minute and Sooyoung hears the scream of her “boss”. He is not really her boss, he is just the chief of this department, he could aswell be a model, but he decided to inerhit this department from his father.
“Oh my. Congratulations Sooyoung, Chung Ha, my stars!”
“Oh my god Yuk Hei.” Says Chung Ha while doing a fake smile.
“What is it princess? Can’t take a compliment from your boss?” says Yuk Hei smirky.
“Let her be Yuk Hei…. And thank you, for the congratulations.”
“No need Joy” (Joy is how all the close ones call Sooyoung) “So… are you girls doing anything tonight?” says Yuk Hei while leaning slowly on the make-up stool and making a sign to the make-up artist to leave.
“You’re hitting on us again…” Chung Ha rolls her eyes in disgust.
“What? Who? Me? Naah. I got plenty of chicks in my hands to deal with, Chung Ha” says Yuk Hei playfully. “I was just asking because… you know…”
“You have no friends…” whispers Sooyoung with her head down.
“PARK SOOYOUNG”
“I’m sorry Yuk Hei… but isn’t this the truth. If so… Then maybe I’ll go out with you” says Sooyoung while packing her stage clothes into a workout bag.
“Ugh… I DO HAVE FRIENDS, ok? It’s just… They’re all having a night shift tonight and I just wanna celebrate with my models… What’s wrong about it?”
“Nothing, Yuk Hei… I will go with you. Chung Ha?”
Chung Ha seems to not knowledge the two of them and mumbles “I got better plans for tonight.” She takes her designer bag and leaves.
“Psh… I should fire her for this behavior…” says Yuk Hei while getting up from the seat. “What about we leave after you get changed? I will wait for you in my office, when you’re ready.” And he leaves the room which he filled with his strong, expensive cologne.
Yuk Hei is the type of young CEO who is just a spoiled brat at the first sight. You see him with ladies at poker nights and all fancied up in the most perfect-fit black suit with a little rose ready to be given to any lady that would catch his attention. He is that handsome, tall, perfect pushed back, black hair, and deep brown Chinese eyes that no body could refuse. Besides all of this, he’s got the charms, charisma, his humour is always a fine one. Sooyoung was very attracted to him at first, she could’ve sworn she will faint when she came at this agency for a modelling interview. He was standing there, scanning every move of her body. This made Sooyoung’s legs tremble and she thinks he just chose her as his model for mercy. Now, 2 years later, she sees Yuk Hei only as a good friend, and her “boss”.
--
Yeri just got home, after the “tiring” shopping session with her unnies. Tiring, in fact, only for her, because all Seulgi and Irene did was stare at the younger one running from store to store, trying on 10 dressed per store and buying in the end only one from the last store they went into. Yeri is happy though, she got to spend time with two of the most important persons to her and now she is at her vanity table, getting ready for her “big date”. She plays music loudly as she does her makeup so she couldn’t bother to hear the entrance door opening. Perfect timing for her evil Canadian friend to sneak in and scare the life out of Yeri.
“WENDY SON!!! I SWEAR TO THE GODS YOU WILL PAY FOR THIS-“ screams Yeri and stomps her feet to the floor like a little child who didn’t get any candy.
“Woah woah woah! What are you getting ready for, miss single?” says Wendy, with a cocky, proud smile on her face while making herself comfortable on the endge of Yeri’s bed.
“Not you business.”
Wendy grabs her hand firmly, enough to scare Yerim again and intimidates her “My business!”
Yeri is terrifyied by Wendy’s power. She is that one friend that gets everything she wants from anyone, with just a death glare. Besides that, you could easily get lost In her insanely gorgeous eyes. She is one stunning half-american girl. She is a bank accountant and she works at Yeri’s father’s company, the biggest one in Seoul.
“Ah Wendy! Stop playing games…” says Yeri poutyly. “I’m going out…”
“With? Joy?”
“NO??!!”
“Why so panicked?” Wendy smirks.
“Stupid… I’m not panicked, im just nervous. I’m going out with the most handsome guy in my agency. He’s a photographer and”
“Wait. WHAT?? YOU GOT A DATE?”
“yes…” says Yeri very confused, not knowing if Wendy is being mad or excited for her.
“That is… GREAT! Now let me redo that eyeline, you ain’t going out like that-“ and Wendy smacks the eyeliner from Yeri’s hands and positions herself good enough to give the younger one a BOMB make-up look.
Wendy is a “professional” in dating. She has dated the most men until now. 6 at count. 3 during high school and 3 during the past 4 years of work. Even so, she keeps these “Details” private to her best-friends. Why?
FLASHBACK
“They would never understand…” and she leans her head on his shoulder.
“But they are your friends Seungwan… Will you hide this from them forever?”
“I don’t want to lose you… or them…”
“If you continue like this, you will lose one of them… or maybe all. Let’s tell them.” And he wakes up to stand firmly in front of his dear one.
“Give me some more time… Please.”
“Just because I love you… but the time is ticking.” And he places a meaningful kiss on her forehead leaving her to sit alone on the cold bench in front of the Han River.
END OF FLASHBACK.
Hours and hours of getting ready, and Yeri is finally ready to go, under the splendid makeover done by Wendy.
“You looks stunning!” says Wendy while she analyses her bestie from top to bottom.
“I love you so much Seungwan! Thank you.” And she suddenly become thoughtful.
“What’s wrong?”
“What if I fail.”
“Yerim… what’s with this negativity… I don’t wanna hear none of this! You will go there and have the wildest night of your life-“ Yeri is looking at Wendy with big eyes.
“W-wild?”
“I mean- Yeah. Wild.”
“What do you mean by-“
“OH MY LOOK AT THE TIME!” says Wendy, flustered and drags Yeri to the door.
All the details are done and now she is ready to head to the door, right when the doorbell rings.
“Uhm. Is he supposed to come pick you up”
“Yes. I think that’s him.” Says Yeri while staring blankly at the door, not knowing what to do.
“then… WHY ARE U STANDING AND NOT GOING TO OPEN?” says Wendy is a quiet scream.
“SHH! Ok, ok ima go.”
And she opens the door, leaving sight to one of the most beautiful man they have ever seen. Or at least, Wendy has seen. She was standing awkwardly in the back of Yeri, staring the man down. It was a male in his 25s, dressed not very fancy, but definitely breathtaking as he was wearing a nice white shirt, complimenting one of the tiniest waist Wendy has ever seen at a male, some black jeans that looked like they were made to be worn by him and only him and a denim jacket falling over one of this shoulders. His cologne already made Wendy zone out and now that she is done scanning his body, she gets to the face, a face that stuns her beyond words. “The prettiest man alive” she tought to herself.
All her thoughts are now faded as she finds herself alone in the room. “Did they leave?” She must’ve zoned out way too much that Yeri and the handsome man already left. Did she really catch herself looking at the man Yeri is dating?? Yeri, her best friend?? “This can’t be possible…” she tells to herself as she leans thoughtful on the sofa. She feels sad. She feels disappointed in herself but yet, she really can’t take her mind off the man she has just seen. She ends up falling sleep in Yeri’s apartment, on her sofa, sunk deep in thoughts and questions.

ran’s emo hours? always
fandom: bandori
ship: ranmoca
words: 2796
ao3 link
author’s note: based off of this au!!
"Oh," Tsugu says, and the smile freezes on her sweet face. "You mean you're not... going?"
"No." Ran picks at her cuticles. Anything to avoid the crashing disappointment in Tsugu's eyes.
Moca sighs noisily and plants her elbows on the table, a solid, heavy weight by Ran's side.  "There's no such thing as major for bread consumption, so Moca-chan might as well not bother, y'know~?"
"The university offers home ec though! And design!" Himari's voice is a little wheedling, a little frantic. "You like design, Moca!"
"But I like an easy-going life even more..."
"And Ran, right?" Tomoe's voice is mild but her gaze is sharp. She's always been better about cutting through Ran's bullshit than Himari or Tsugu. The five of them like this, sitting two and three in the booth's seats? It couldn't be more obvious what's going on here, but Tomoe smiles anyways, warm and sincere. "Hey, I get it though. Uni isn't for everyone—that's why I'm takin' a gap year, to be sure."
"Yeah. To be sure." Ran doesn't mention that she'll probably never be sure.
She doesn't want to be that person—so-and-so's good-for-nothing daughter, who rocketed through college in a whirlwind of mediocrity only to lock herself up in her room the second the certificate of graduation passed into her hands. Half-assing her way through a major she doesn't care about, fighting for a job that she knows she's going to hate, then feeling bad about not getting what she wanted when she hadn't really been trying anyways; who the hell would want to resign themselves to a lifetime of that?
Irresponsible, Dad calls her. Free-spirited, Tsugu would probably say. Ran knows the truth. Her itchy feet and restlessness are a symptom of fear, and no amount of excuses or slammed doors is going to change the fact that Ran is nothing but a born coward, doing everything she can to pretend otherwise.
"Well, that's fine! No matter what you do, we'll be behind you no matter what!" Tsugu brings her fists up beneath her chin. It's an expression of conviction; has been, probably always will be. But right now, with her eyes too-bright and a faint tremble in fists, she just looks like she's trying to convince herself and failing miserably. "Even if we're not together, we can still make time to see each other! I plan to come home a lot to help out, so..."
Tsugu's eyes are shining with an earnest hope, but she has to know—no, she does know. They've already tried this before. Without Afterglow, the five of them might have fallen apart; broken up into their own little cliques without time and proximity and shared interests to keep them glued together. Moca and Ran, Himari and Tomoe, and then Tsugu—everyone's cherished friend, but no one's special somebody.
(It feels so cruel to even think that, even if—even if it's probably true. You can love someone perfectly well and still not be able to talk to them. Tsugu's so honest; so eager to please. Ran's words shrivel up on her tongue in the face of that candor. Someone like Moca; someone tricky and shifty and despite it all, patiently understanding—that's the kind of person that can draw Ran out of her shell.
That kind of person, or maybe just Moca.)
Tears are starting to streak down Himari's cheeks. Tomoe yelps and blots her face with napkins.
"You guuuuys," Himari wails, and obligingly blows her nose into the damp tissue Tomoe holds out for her. Tomoe grimaces and tosses it in a soggy heap on top of her empty plate. "I'm gonna miss you so much... but we'll always have the group chat! Promise me you'll check in every day! Ran, you have to reply to my messages! Don't leave me on read!"
"I won't."
"You'd better not be saying that to get me off your back! I'll call you every night at 3 a.m. if you don't answer for more than a week—no, five days!"
"I'm pretty sure that's one way to guarantee Ran'll never call you back, babe," Tomoe laughs, stretching an arm behind Himari's shoulders.
"Then I'll visit her myself. Ran's dad will let me in, you know he will!"
Ran flinches. They all notice, of course; Himari's tears cease like someone's turned off a faucet inside her. Tomoe frowns. Tsugu shrinks in on herself like she's waiting for a blow to come.
Moca steals the last fry from Ran's plate. "So, about that..."
“So this is gonna be your new place?” Tomoe asks. She turns slowly on her heels, taking it all in. Ran knows it’s not impressive. If she’s being honest, when she and Moca first scoped this place out—she thought it was a real shithole. Cracked tile, peeling wallpaper, and water that refuses to stay hot for more than a minute, but it’s far enough from Ran’s house that her family would probably never bother, and more importantly, it’s cheap.
Desperate girls can’t afford to be picky, so Ran shrugs noncommittally and drops a box filled with kitchenware onto the counter.
“Hii-chan, you can put the fridge in the corner~”
“Okay! Leave it to me!” Himari’s all but disappeared behind the mini-fridge in her arms, but it’s nothing compared to her muscles. She shoulders into the apartment and sets it down with a clatter and a gusty sigh. Tomoe stares at her, betrayed.
“Himari! You were supposed to let me know when you were bringing that up!”
“Nuh uh!” Himari flexes, cradling the ball of her bicep in one hand. “If you want to stand around chatting with the married couple, then Tsugu and I are just gonna move everything ourselves.”
“I’ve been helping,” Ran complains. She cuts open the top of the kitchenware box before realizing that she hasn’t actually cleaned out the moldy cabinets yet. Fuck.
“Me too,” Moca says from where she’s sprawled out on the futon. It was the first thing they brought in and she hasn’t moved from it in the hour they’ve been unpacking. She grins foolishly at Ran’s glare and sticks her bare leg up in the air, one worn out sock dangling from the very tips of her toes. “I’ve been controlling Hii-chan with my mind.”
“It’s true,” Himari says very helpfully. She digs her fingers into her temples. “And right now she’s telling me to go grab… the cleaning supplies!”
“Yep. That’s exactly right.”
“So she can clean the mold out of the toilet,” Himari continues, “because she knows her good friend, her best friend Uehara Himari just had a large latte and needs to pee!”
Moca gestures at the empty cup on the counter. “And Moca-chan says that if Hii-chan needs to go, she can just recycle~”
“You’re disgusting,” Tomoe says cheerfully. She loops an arm around Himari’s waist. “C’mon, babe. I’m hungry and Tsugu’s still with the car. Maybe she’ll drive us to get burgers if we ask nicely.”
Himari lights up. “You’re a genius.” She presses a great, smacking kiss on Tomoe’s cheek. “Tsugu, we’re coming for you!”
And before Ran can so much as blink, Himari drags Tomoe out the door, leaving her alone with Moca and the echoes of Himari’s voice ringing in the living room.
Moca shoves her hand into her hoodie pocket. “I’ll text Tomo-chin to get us our usual order.”
“No thanks.” Ran reaches into the box of kitchenware and starts dividing it into plates, bowls, cups, chopsticks. It doesn’t take too long. Anything more than three of each would just be vanity, and with their cooking skills, more than one or two pots and pans would be a waste of precious space. "We said we'd budget, remember?"
“Aw, don’t be like that, Ran. We don’t even have groceries yet,” Moca says. She props her head up on her chin. “Let Moca-chan have her last taste of good bread before she goes on an instant ramen diet.”
Ran hesitates. “But…”
“We can get the kids’ meal,” Moca prods. “If Hii-chan picks up Tsugu and swaddles her in Tomo-chin’s jacket, they can probably pass her off as like, six.”
Ran snorts. Nothing short of a national disaster could rob Tsugu of her rosy cheeks and cherub face, but even she would have a hard time passing herself off as a child. "You get the kid's meal. I don't want it."
Moca drops her phone on her chest with a dull clunk of flesh, bone, and plastic that Ran swears she feels in her own sternum. Her eyes slide shut, as though that one text has drained her of every drop of energy in her body and nothing short of a flash sale at Yamabuki could rouse her. “Y’know, Ran.”
“What?”
“This might be the last meal we can have together for a while. Ran doesn’t wanna send ‘em off just yet, right?” Moca rolls over on her stomach. Her voice is soft and ponderous when she says, “To be honest, Moca-chan doesn’t want to either.”
“Moca…” She swallows past the lump in her throat, and what was once a comforting silence now seems sour, weighing heavy on her shoulders.
Sometimes Ran wishes her loved ones could be less kind, less understanding. If they weren’t kind, then she’d have a justification for being angry. If they weren’t kind, then Ran’s fear and fury would have somewhere righteous to go instead of churning in a writhing knot inside her chest, jolting her awake in the middle of the night and soaking her pillow with hot, helpless tears.
But they are, and Ran drowns in it. She can’t help but feel as though their time is wasted on her when she’s going nowhere, doing nothing but spiraling somewhere dark and deep, running as far away from their open arms as she can.
What the hell is she supposed to do with herself? It hurts when people are cruel and it hurts when they’re kind. She can't exactly make a life out of running away from everything that scares her when everything scares her.  And then there’s Moca, staring at her with gentle eyes. Moca, who she’s dragged all the way out to the middle of nowhere, far from everything familiar and everyone they love.
Moca can do anything she puts her mind to. She could have gone to Todai like her mother did, and with her grades? God, Moca could have made it. Moca could have gone anywhere, and she chose Ran. She’s always chosen Ran.
That devotion scares her. She doesn’t know what to do with it. She doesn’t know what she’d do without it.
Ran’s lip wobbles. God, what the hell. What the hell. She’s standing in the middle of her stupid mildew-covered kitchen and crying because she caught feelings about her girlfriend while talking about burgers. It's the worst. She's the worst.
“Ran?” Moca clambers to her feet. She cups Ran’s cheeks. “Hey…”
Hey yourself, Ran wants to say, and ends up making a noise like the time they were at the beach and Himari served a ball right into Tomoe’s gut. Moca dabs at her eyes with the sleeves of her hoodie and stays mercifully silent, guiding Ran’s head to the crook of her neck.
“Hey,” Moca says when Ran’s choked sobs subside. She presses a kiss to the side of her head, scraping her dry lips over the tip of Ran’s ear. “C'mon. Save the tears for when I propose." Her arms wind tight around Ran's waist, like in spite of everything Ran's made her give up, she can't bear to lose Ran just as much as Ran can't stand to be without her. "Everything will be alright, you’ll see. Moca-chan will let you have her Happy Ranger toy.”
Ran snorts despite herself. “I don’t—don’t want it.”
“Well, you’re going to get it. I’ll leave it between us on the futon.”
“Don’t.”
“I will,” Moca swears. “It’ll be our pet.”
“I’m allergic.”
“Then it’s a good thing that Happy Rangers don’t have fur, right?” Moca says, and when Ran’s shuddering sigh transforms into a weak laugh, gropes her ass.
"See? Not so bad."
"There was literally a wasp nest over our doorway."
"And neither of us got stung. So not too bad, right~?"
"We have to call the landlord tomorrow," Ran says, tugging her shirt over her head. Cold, calloused fingers trace the knobs of her spine, then wrap around the strap of her sports bra.
Moca pulls it back and snaps it against her skin. "Don't worry, Ran. Moca-chan will protect you."
"From wasps?"
"I'll open my mouth and swallow them all."
"I'd never kiss you again."
"How I suffer for your safety," Moca says. She presses her dry, cracked lips to Ran's shoulder. "You can also hide under my hoodie."
Ran peels off her jeans—a task made all the harder by Moca clinging to her back like a parka-clad koala. "How's that supposed to help me?"
"Moca-chan got stung by wasps once, remember~? She's immune now."
"Immune to being stung?"
"Don't you trust me?" Moca finally steps away to watch Ran pull on her sleep shorts. "Wasps can't sting through jackets, right?"
"If you're not sure, I'm not going along with it." She snatches a tank top off of their rumpled futon. It's Moca's and hasn't been washed in a couple of days, but they don't have enough clean clothes between them to be picky.
"Aw, and here Moca-chan thought you might wanna be cradled against her chest." Moca strips and collapses onto the futon in her underclothes. She holds her arms open. "C'mere Ran~"
Ran pointedly lies down beside her. Moca, never to be deterred, wraps her arms and legs around her anyways. Her skin is clammy from sweat, and the two of them stick together, uncomfortably warm but for the places that Moca's icicle hands and feet touch.
Her heartbeat is strong and steady against Ran's back. Her breathing is noisy in her ear.
"Hey," Moca whispers, pressing her cold feet against the back of Ran's calves. "Y'know, people usually plan to get married when they elope."
"Have we eloped?" Moca's fingers trace patterns against her stomach. Ran grabs her hands because—damn it, Moca knows she's ticklish!
(And if she laces their fingers together too, well. That's just the best way to stop Moca from trying anything funny.)
"Lessee... left our friends, family and everyone we know behind," Moca mumbles. She presses a sloppy kiss to the back of Ran's neck. "Got a shitty apartment together." Another kiss. "Livin' off instant ramen and sandwich bread. Also together."
She nips at Ran's nape. "And you're definitely Moca-chan's lover, unless the girl at the konbini actually calls me, so. Definitely eloping, right~?"
Ran flushes. Moca trails her lips over her jaw, up to the shell of her ear. "I-is that what you want? We can't afford a ring right now, you know that."
Moca hums and peels away from her. Ran sits up and gets an eyeful of Moca's ass and washed-out underwear as she crawls around their cramped futon.
"What are you doing?" Ran asks. Moca gropes under their covers and pulls out a cracked ballpoint pen.
"Raaaaan," she whines, wriggling her fingers insistently. Ran squints, then relents and puts her hands in hers.
"Hey, that tickles."
"Hold still, this is importaaant~"
Moca's pen traces wobbly blue lines over the ring finger of Ran's left hand. Her tongue pokes out of her mouth as she draws. Sitting there in their shitty, run-down apartment and worn-through futon, sweating hard because they can't afford to turn on the air con; Ran doesn't think she's ever been more in love.
They still have to get jobs. The money they've saved from their share of Afterglow's ticket and album sales will run dry before summer's through, and even Moca's magical couponing skills can't fill their mini fridge when their food budget is two thousand five hundred yen a week.
But right now, as Ran plucks the pen from Moca's grasp and gets to drawing her own wobbly ring around Moca's finger, those concerns seem unreal, almost faraway.
This is their time, their space. Their problems aren’t going away anytime soon; neither are Ran’s doubts. Their friends and family are a city and three train stations away. Next month will mark a year since the last time Ran touched her guitar. She’s pretty sure Moca is two ramen packets away from jaundice.
But they have each other. They have each other, and if the soft smile on Moca’s face as she stares down at their laced fingers is any indication, they’ll always have each other.
Ran makes a point of not letting Moca see her blush as she leans down to kiss Moca’s knuckles.
They’ll make it work somehow. Same as always.

New Beginnings
Hello, my lovelies! So I got the idea to write this multi-chapter AU a few months ago but between work, Uni, personal life drama, and the writing I had been doing to fulfill fanfic prompt requests (as well as A LOT of writing for the other fandom I write for haha) I’m only getting the chance to get the ball rolling on this one now.
I didn’t tag anyone in this Intro chapter because I wanted you all to know what you were signing up for with this fic before committing to being tagged in subsequent chapters. With that being said, if you like this story and would like to be tagged in future chapters, feel free to let me know!
So without further ado…this is New Beginnings.
***
Rae sat in the back of the car, staring distractedly out the window as she saw the city that she had been born and raised in pass by in a blur.
Linda and Karim had tried to make conversation when they first started their nearly hour long drive, but the early morning hour and Rae’s unwillingness to respond with more than one word answers led to Linda and Karim chatting among themselves in the front while Rae was left alone with her thoughts.
The first twenty minutes of the drive, Rae had been overjoyed.
She had spent the summer months after college ended excitedly fussing over every detail of what her experience at Uni would be like and how good it would feel to be living on her own—well, technically in the dormitories on campus at her university, but that was a minor detail as far as Rae was concerned because she would no longer be living under her mum’s roof.
The next twenty minutes, Rae had been terrified.
College had been hell, but Rae had made it through. University had to be different for her, but what was to say that different meant better? How did Rae know that she would be strong enough to handle what life would throw at her, even after everything she has already been through? Failure was not an option for Rae, but her concerns about how unprepared she suddenly felt and uncertainty about what would happen if everything went tits up for her at Uni made it hard to focus on anything else for those minutes that seemed to drag on endlessly.
As the scenery outside the car window transitioned from the only town she had ever called home to unrecognizable countrysides and finally to the distinct cityscape that had built around the University that was soon becoming her home away from home, the all-consuming fear Rae had felt was quickly replaced with guilt.
Rae was being selfish, it was as simple as that. Her mum and Karim were stuck at home with a young child and Rae was free to just pack up her entire life and leave them behind without second thoughts. She had willingly applied to Uni and agreed to pay more money than she cared to think about at the moment to further her education and pursue her dreams, but her family needed her. Rae’s baby sister—too young to fully understand why her big sister was leaving and telling her goodbye early that morning—needed her, and yet Rae was still going through with all of this.
“Rae...Rachel, dear, I think we’re here,” Linda said most likely not for the first time, pulling Rae from the rabbit hole of doubt and overthinking that she had fallen into.
“Oh, uh yeah, sorry mum. This is the place, I think…”
***
“109...110...try to keep up, Karim! Rae’s dorm room should be right around the corner from here!”
Linda walked along the perimeter of the courtyard, passing each dormitory door as she searched for the room number that matched what was scrawled onto the small envelope containing the keys to Rae’s dorm.
Karim and Rae, who were following a short distance behind, were slowed down slightly by the surprisingly heavy boxes they carried with them. Linda had stopped walking and moved to one side of the sidewalk to give the group of people currently trying to maneuver a large flat screen television through the door to the nearest dorm space to move as necessary.
“Look at this, Rae,” Linda said quietly as she leaned over to her daughter to speak quietly with her, “they have nice and strong Uni boys to help move in the heavier stuff!”
Rae rolled her eyes and leaned away from her mum who gave her a wink and playfully nudged her side with her elbow, but Rae’s poorly contained chuckle showed that she was mostly unbothered by her mum’s joking.
“Alright, let’s just hurry up and find my dorm room. This box is heavier than I remembered it being,” Rae replied with a huff from the weight of the box she carried.
The three continued walking along the row of dormitory doors, smiling politely at the other residents that they passed.
“Which number?” Karim asked as he tried to adjust his grip of the boxes he was holding without dropping either box.
“Room 113, so this one...I believe,” Linda replied as she walked towards a door that was a few down from where the group had been carrying in the TV only minutes ago.
Linda pulled the shiny key from the small envelope it was contained in and inserted it into the lock, giving it a turn.
When the door unlocked without further hesitation, Linda swung open the door and held it open as Rae and Karim stepped inside the dimly lit apartment-style dorm.
“Hello? Oh! You must be Rachel, huh?” Rae heard the cheerful voice before she saw a petite girl with fiery red hair emerge from one of the bedrooms, but she smiled and nodded as the girl walked closer to her.
“Yeah, that’s me, but I go by Rae, not Rachel,” Rae replied with a small smile.
“Perfect, thanks for letting me know, Rae! My name is Isabella, by the way, but you can call me Iz or Izzy or some other nickname if you’d like! You were the last roommate we were waiting on and the other girls have been coming in and out all morning, but I can introduce you to them when I see them, if you’d like.”
“I’d really appreciate that, Izzy! Do you know which room is mine? I’d really like to put these boxes down,” Rae replied with a strained laugh and she tried to adjust her grip on the box she was carrying.
“Oh, silly me! Of course! Your room is right here on the right and I think Maddie took the bed on the left, so the one on the right is your side of the room by default, I guess!”
“Perfect! This is my mum, Linda, and my stepdad, Karim, by the way.” Rae replied as she used her head to motion to Linda and Karim where they stood beside her.
“It’s lovely to meet you both! My parents were here earlier this morning but they left already, or else I surely would have introduced them to you all as well!”
Rae followed Izzy into the bedroom that was lighted solely by the two large windows against the far wall of the room that had the window coverings lifted fully. Rae set the box she was carrying labeled “desk stuff” onto the plain black desk that was set up against the foot of her lofted bed beside the wall.
As soon as she turned around, she was pulled into a tight hug by Izzy, which she returned only slightly awkwardly despite the initial surprise.
“I’m just so happy to finally meet you, Rae! Me and the other two girls met up and got to know each other a bit over summer, so we already feel like old friends, but since you were only recently added to our dorm, all three of us have just been waiting anxiously to finally meet you. I really hope you love it here and we can all be really good friends.”
“I’m really excited to get to know you and the rest of the girls living here as well!” Rae added with a wide grin.
“Do you wanna meet one of the girls now? Or were you gonna go with your parents and get the rest of your stuff from their car?”
Rae looked at her mum and Karim as they stacked the boxes Karim had been carrying neatly on the carpeted floor beneath her lofted dorm bed.
“Go on ahead and meet your suitemates, Rae. Karim and I can get the rest of the stuff from the car. We might even be able to get a little help from those fit boys we saw earlier,” Linda replied with a suggestive eyebrow raise as she herded Karim out of Rae’s bedroom and towards the front door of the dorm.
“Come on! Maddie is at the Student Services building getting the parking permit for her car so she can park in the lot over here without being towed, so you’ll have to meet her a bit later. But you can come meet my roommate, Chloe!”
Izzy grabbed Rae by the hand and gently pulled her into the neighboring bedroom inside their dorm where there was a girl with her back turned towards them hanging clothing in a closet.
“Chloe! This is Rachel, Maddie’s roommate. She likes to go by ‘Rae’ instead of Rachel though!”
“Hiya, nice to meet you, Chloe,” Rae said quietly as the girl turned to face Rae and Izzy where they stood just within the entrance of the room.
“Hey babes! It’s so nice to finally meet you. I was surprised to see that they added someone into our dorm so close to move-in, but I’m glad that you’ll be living with us nonetheless!” Chloe replied as she walked forward and pulled Rae into a hug.
Wow...is it just me or is everyone at Uni a hugger except me?
“Rae’s parents are still getting some of her stuff from their car, but when they get back I can introduce them to you as well, Chloe!”
“Sure, that’s fine with me! Now that you two ladies are here, do you think you can help me with lofting my bed? I want it to be a little bit higher up so then I can fit my dresser and mini fridge underneath my bed to help save some space,”
Izzy and Rae shrugged and agreed, walking up to the bed to try to help Chloe figure out how to loft the bed.
“I don’t know how to loft the beds any higher than this,” Rae replied after they had tried and failed to loft the frame of the bed significantly higher than it had been initially, “my bed was already lofted when I got in there.”
“Should we go ask our neighbors to see if they can help us out?” Izzy asked as she wiped the small bit of sweat that had accumulated on her forehead from the exertion of moving the heavy bed frame.
“Sure! Plus I think it would be good to meet the neighbors and make friends with them, you know?” Chloe replied with a knowing smirk, which confused Rae slightly.
The three girls walked outside their dorm and turned right, towards dorm 114, and Chloe knocked on the door.
“Let’s try our next door neighbors to the left,” Izzy suggested after waiting a while since they knocked to see if anyone was there, “I’m pretty sure I saw a couple of them moving in around the same time that I got here, so they might still be inside their dorm!”
They walked past their dorm door and towards their other neighbors’ door and Chloe knocked on the door while the other two ladies stood beside her waiting to see if anyone would answer the door.
Just as they began to walk away from the door, they heard someone call “just a minute” followed by a loud series of thuds and sounds of items being moved hastily before the door unlocked and was opened.
“Oh! Hello!” called the cute boy wearing glasses who had answered the door as he panted, slightly out of breath from his rush to get the door.
“Good morning! We’re your next door neighbors, from dorm 113! We needed a little bit of help lofting my bed, and I was hoping that you boys could help us out a bit?” Chloe asked, laying on the charm nice and thick and batting her eyelashes excessively.
Boys? What did Chloe mean by ‘you boys’?
“Yeah, of course! My mates and I will head over there to help in a just a second. Dorm 113, right?” the boy asked with a friendly smile.
“Yup! Number 113...we’ll leave the door cracked open for you boys and you can just come right inside, alright?”
Chloe gave the boy another smile and he waved at Izzy and Rae behind her after promising that he and his mates would be over to help them soon, before the three girls returned back to their own dorm.
With the front door propped open using one of the small blue bins for recycling, the three girls walked into the room that Izzy and Chloe shared to clear some of the clutter out of the way so the others would be able to access Chloe’s bed without stepping on anything on the ground.
“Hey ladies!” A booming voice sing-songed as a shirtless boy with short hair walked through the front door of their dorm, followed by the boy in the glasses that had answered the door when Chloe and the girls first knocked.
“Hi, you must be one of our neighbors from 112, huh? I’m Chloe!” she said as she emerged from her bedroom to greet the boys that had walked into their dorm.
“I sure am! You can call me Chop,” he replied with a wide grin that exposed a noticeable, but strangely suiting gap between his two front teeth.
“You three saw me earlier, but we haven’t been formally introduced. My name is Archie and I’m not roommates with Chop, but I was just helping him and our other mate get settled since none of my suitemates have moved into our dorm yet.”
“And who are these two lovely ladies?” Chop asked with an eyebrow waggle as he turned his attention to the other girls that had joined Chloe in the common area of their dorm while Archie introduced himself.
Rae stood beside Izzy in a state of stunned silence when Chloe’s previous statement clicked into place.
‘You boys’ as in our neighbors...who are fit and/or shirtless and casually standing in our dorm room right now...
“My name is Izzy...and this here is Rae!” Izzy replied for both of them when she saw that Rae was not jumping at the chance to introduce herself.
“Well, it’s a pleasure to meet you three ladies,” Chop added with a smirk, “some of the guys aren’t in our dorm right now, but I think between you three and us three, we can loft a bed, don’t ya think?”
“Three of you? I just see you and Archie..?” Rae replied with her eyebrows scrunched in confusion after her initial surprise and shyness had begun to fade in the presence of the two friendly boys standing in their dorm room.
“Huh? Oh! Arch, do ya know where Finn ran off to? He was just here a moment ago…”
“I, uh...maybe he—”
“Oi, Chopper! I’m right here, I just turned back to grab something to help loft the bed,” muttered the shirtless boy with slightly shaggy brown hair as he walked into the girl’s dorm room.
“There he is! It’s about fucking time, mate!” Chop joked as he gave his mate’s shoulder a playful shove.
“Sorry, I...uh…” the boy stood beside Archie and his voice trailed off as he looked between the three girls in front of him and himself, shirtless and dressed only in joggers that hung low on his hips, and he chewed his bottom lip out of nervousness.
“Oh, don’t mind him! My boy Finnley here is just a little bit shy around beautiful ladies like you all,” Chop added with a chuckle, “Ya missed all the introductions here, mate, but these ladies are Izzy, Chloe, and Rae...they are our next door neighbors!”
The girls gave Finn a small wave and smiled as Chop introduced them, but all Finn managed was a tight-lipped smile and silent nod at each of the girls.
“Anyway...we hear that there is a bed that needs lofting, yeah? Let’s get to it!” Archie replied with a smile as he gestured for the ladies to lead them to the bed they wanted to loft.
As Chloe and Izzy explained to Chop and Archie what they had already tried doing, Finn walked up to the bed frame and looked at the structure of the base where the mattress sat.
“Hey, uh, May...was it? Can ya help me move the mattress off the bed frame?” Finn asked quietly when he noticed that Rae was leaned up against the wall nearest to him watching what he was doing.
“Oh, sure, but my name is ‘Rae’ not ‘May’...” she replied as she walked up to the mattress to help him pull it down from the bed frame and lean it against the wall where she stood previously.
“Thanks for the help,” he muttered before returning to his inspection of the bed frame.
“Alright, now that we got the mattress out of the way, you should just be able to lift the base of the bed frame and move it into a higher notch to make the bed lifted higher up,” Chop said as he moved to stand at one end of the bed, “Finn, can you get on the other side and hold it in place so I can lift this side of the base?”
Finn nodded and stood at the opposite end of the bed from Chop and gripped the bed frame tightly to keep it still.
Chop began to pull the base upward, trying to unhook it from the notch it was currently positioned in, but despite his greater than average strength that was clearly a result of years of working out, the base would hardly budge.
“Can I take a look?” Finn asked when Chop stepped away from the bed frame with a frustrated huff.
“By all means. Do you really think you’re stronger than me though, Finn?” Chop asked, lifting his arms up to flex his muscles as if to prove his point.
“Well I am stronger than you, Chopper, but it also might help you lift the base if you undo the screws that are securing them in place,” Finn muttered as he pulled a screwdriver from the pocket of his joggers and loosened the screws on that side of the bed until the base was easily lifted using only one hand, “there ya go!”
Finn handed the screwdriver to Archie who got started loosening all the other screws on the base to help them loft the bed.
“So that’s what you were looking at on the bed frame so closely a minute ago. Nice job by the way, if not for you I don’t know how long we would have tried to loft the bed using brute force,” Rae replied with a smile when Finn walked to stand next to her on the opposite side of the room to give the others more space to adjust the height of the bed.
“Yeah, well I knew the screws had to be holding something in place and I had brought my screwdriver from my dorm just in case I’d need it, so I just took a guess. It wasn’t a big deal or anything,” he replied quietly as he crossed his arms over his torso to try to hide the exposed skin of his bare chest.
“Rae! Can you help Karim with the box on the top of the stack? It’s about to fall off,” Linda replied from the doorway of the dorm as she used a foot to gently kick open the door that was still held open by the recycling bin, since her arms were full with boxes.
“Yeah, of course,” Rae walked into the common room and grabbed the box on top of the stack Karim was carrying before following them both into her bedroom to put the boxes down.
“Are your other roommates here? We heard a few extra voices as we walked into your dorm,” Linda said as she placed the boxes of clothing she carried onto the carpet near the open closet.
“Two of my suitemates are here. Our neighbors also came over to help us loft one of their beds in the other room, so they’re here now too.” Rae explained.
“Perfect! Let’s go meet them!” Linda replied enthusiastically as she walked out of Rae’s bedroom and into the neighboring room that Izzy and Chloe shared.
“Hiya ladies! I’m Rae’s mum, Linda Bouchtat, and this is my husband...Karim…”
Linda stopped dead in her tracks when she walked into the other room and saw that in addition to the perky redhead she had met previously, there was now a pretty girl sitting in a desk chair and three fit boys—two of which shirtless and glistening with sweat—standing beside a newly lofted bed.
“Hello, Mrs. Bouchtat!” Archie said as he reached a hand across to shake Linda’s hand in greeting, “I’m Archie and these two lads are Chop and Finn. We live next door to your daughter and her suitemates!”
“Ah, I see...Rachel, can you come help us get the last couple things from the car, so we don’t have to make an additional trip?” Linda asked almost curtly as she turned to face Rae where she stood behind her.
“Uh, sure, mum…” Rae replied hesitantly, unsure as to why her mum had referred to her by her full first name.
As soon as Rae, Linda, and Karim were a short distance away from the dorm, Linda placed her hand on Rae’s shoulder, causing her to stop walking.
“What the bloody hell was that back there, Rae?”
“What do ya mean, mum?”
“What do I mean? Are you serious, Rachel? Those boys...those shirtless boys...what were they doing in your dorm?”
“They are our neighbors, like Archie said, and they were helping to loft Chloe’s bed, like I had told you,” Rae replied with an eye roll as she continued walking towards her mum’s car.
“You live next to boys?”
“Yeah! Apparently all the odd numbered dorms have girls and even numbered dorms have boys...don’t act so surprised, mum! We both knew that this was a co-ed dormitory community!” Rae replied casually when she noticed the look of shock on Linda’s face.
“Well yeah, but I thought that it would be separated right down the middle or by floor or something!”
“Oh relax, mum! It’s not like there are co-ed showers or toilets that we have to share, since they are apartment-style dorms. Each dorm still only has up to four boys or four girls, but it’s not mixed!”
“Hmm...Alright, I guess. I still wish that I knew about this earlier.”
“I didn’t know about it either until when I met my neighbors, but it’s gonna be fine, mum.”
“I suppose so. It’s a good thing that I trust you so much to make smart choices, Rae!”
When the three of them got to Linda’s car, there was only Rae’s denim backpack and a box with some of her favorite books left to take to her dorm.
“Karim and I should probably get back home to your sister Leila. You know how she can get when she is with a sitter for too long and I’m sure you have plenty of unpacking and bonding with your suitemates to do still.”
“Alright, I should be able to take this last box and my backpack without any trouble. Thanks for helping me move my stuff into my dorm, mum and Karim.”
There was a brief moment of awkward silence before Linda pulled Rae into a tight embrace despite the box Rae was carrying in her arms.
“I’m just really gonna miss you, Rae! You’re my little girl and now you’re growing up so fast and going to Uni and I’m just so proud of you!” Linda said as she rubbed circles on Rae’s back with her hands while the two remained hugging.
“I’m gonna miss you too, mum...both of you and Lei-lei too, actually!” Rae replied as she looked over at Karim when he reached to place a comforting hand on her shoulder, “but I’m not leaving forever. I’m still close enough to come home for holidays and when I have days off of school.”
“I know, I know...and living in the dorms with all the other first year Uni students will be good for you so you can branch out and make some new friends, I think. You better still call us once per week,” Linda said as she released Rae from her tight embrace and wrapped an arm around Karim’s torso instead.
“No, please try to call every day,” Karim added, his accented English thick with concealed emotion.
“Okay, I’ll be sure to call you guys often and keep in touch as much as I can, alright?”
Rae gave Linda and Karim hugs goodbye and she pretended not to notice how glossy their eyes were with holding back tears so that she could maintain her composure as well, but before long her parents climbed into their car and drove away, leaving Rae standing alone in the parking lot with her denim backpack and the cardboard box full of books.
I’ve never lived away from my mum for such a long time, but this is what I wanted, right?
I knew what it would entail to apply for Uni and sign up to live in the dormitories on campus.
But now that it’s actually happening, I feel almost...wistful, I suppose.
The short walk back to her dorm room brought back the excitement, fear, and guilt Rae had felt on the drive earlier that morning in waves, but none of the thoughts lingered and soon she was standing in front of the locked door to her dorm.
My dorm...I think I can get used to the sound of that…
“Oh, good! You had your keys with you,” Izzy called from where she was seated on the couch in the common room of their dorm when Rae unlocked the door and stepped inside, “I wasn’t sure if you had them so I wanted to make sure that you were still able to get back inside after the boys left a few minutes ago.”
“Oh, yeah, sorry I left without telling you all. I just went out to grab the last couple things from my mum’s car and then I was seeing off my mum and stepdad because they needed to start driving home,” Rae explained after turning to lock the front door of the dorm behind her.
Rae walked into her bedroom and was surprised to see a short, but athletic-looking girl with long blonde hair pulled back in a loose ponytail standing on the opposite side of the bedroom from where Rae’s boxes were stacked.
“Oh, hello! You must be my roommate, Maddie, right?” Rae asked as she set down the box she was carrying on her desk.
“Yeah, that’s me! Sorry I wasn’t here earlier today, but I’m glad to see that you seem to be getting settled in alright,” Maddie replied with a smile.
“Oh, yeah! The other girls have been so welcoming and we even met some of the boys in the dorm next to us earlier today. I think I’m gonna really like living here,” Rae said as set her denim backpack onto the chair beneath her desk.
“Knock-knock, ladies!” Izzy sing-songed as she walked through the open door to Rae and Maddie’s bedroom door, “I just wanted to let you two know that Chloe and I were going to go into the city to do some dorm room essentials shopping a bit later today, so you are both more than welcome to join us if you’d like!”
“Thanks, but I’m meeting a couple of my friends from back home for a movie tonight, since we all spent all day today getting settled into our dorms,” Maddie replied with a smile as she continued organizing her side of the bedroom.
“Aw, okay. Maybe we can all hang out another time. What about you, Rae? Do ya wanna come shopping with Chloe and me?”
“Yeah, sure! There’s a few things that I still needed to get too, so I’d really like that!” Rae said with a smile.
“Perfect! I’ll give you a while longer to unpack all your boxes and then whenever you’re ready to leave, just come into my room and let Chloe and I know!”
Izzy walked out of the room and Rae turned back towards her side of the bedroom and looked at all of the boxes that she had left to unpack.
18 years of my life.
Every memory with mum, Karim, and Leila...
All the books that hold a special place in my heart…
And the music that has helped me keep my sanity when life went to shit...
All of the reminders from when my life spun out of control and very nearly slipped from my grasp…
And the diaries and memories from hospital that proved that I was stronger than I ever thought I could be…
My entire life up to this point is now reduced down and packed neatly into ten cardboard boxes and my denim backpack.
The past is the past and there’s nothing I can do to change anything that has happened to me.
But now I’m starting this new chapter of my life and truly living away from my family for the first time in my life.
University is a time for new beginnings, and I swear I’m not gonna fuck it up this time.
A/N: Okay, so this is the introductory chapter, or perhaps a preface, to the new multi-chapter fic that I’m going to be writing and posting for a majority of the foreseeable future.
I’ll be completely honest with you when I say that I have no clue exactly how long this story will end up being and/or exactly what this story will entail, but here are a few things I can tell you about this story: this will likely be a pretty long fic though each chapter may vary greatly in length, this AU takes place in modern day but with the background of Rae’s past struggles with her mental health that are detailed in the show (except for the gang, since she meets them all at Uni in this fic), and the vast majority of events that will be covered in this story are going to be based off of real events from my own experiences of living in the dorms during my Freshman year of Uni...I haven’t decided whether I will let you all know which events were real in the author’s notes of each chapter or whether I’ll leave that a mystery for you guys to make your own assumptions about haha.
Without a doubt, my first year of Uni was the most fun/difficult/crazy year of my life up to that point, but it taught me a lot about myself and about the people I had in my life and ones that came into my life during this time and while there were a lot of bad times, there were also a lot of good times and memories that were made...so hopefully with this story, I can help share some of my experiences and memories with you all!
Until next time: Stay awesome, my friends!

"How could you be more of a dork than you already are?" Jonathan asks his younger sister, Sara, who rolled her eyes and climbs out of her brother’s car. "Maybe it runs in the family." She slapped back, not giving her brother a chance to say anything else as she walks off towards the old school building.
Suddenly a loud engine roaring attracted her attention and she turned her head to the side just in time to see Billy climb out of his car, looking handsome as always. Her heart fluttered, and she forced herself to look in front of her and ignore the attractive Cali boy whom she's been infatuated with for maybe a month now. Something she would never admit to anybody.
She smiled brightly at the sight of her best friend in front of her locker, his face buried in a science book he held up. "Hey Sean." She greeted, opening her locker and removing some of her books she'll need for her first few periods. His only response was a subtle grunt. "What are you reading?" She questioned only to be shushed by him, his blue eyes met hers.
"No distractions, Sara. A little birdie informed me that we might have a surprise pop quiz in science today." She frowned at him, "Then why are you standing in front of my locker?" Sean cracked a smile and side hugged the girl, "I wanted to at least see your face before I enter the hell zone." Sara smiled and turned to walk with her friend in the other direction, but instead she collided with something hard
"What the fuck, watch where you're going." She looked up from her fallen books on the floor into Billy's magnificent eyes. She didn't even stutter. "Maybe you should look where you're going, asshole." She scoffed. Not backing down. She might have a slight crush on his face, but she was no fan of his horrible personality.
"Excuse me?" He asked, raising a dark eyebrow. "Did I stutter?" She said and crossed her arms over her chest. Billy looked at a loss for words. He opened his mouth to say something, but she raised one finger and shushed him. "Rather not. You've already wasted a lot of my time,-" she bent down and picked up the two books on the floor "-I'd appreciate it if you didn't waste anymore."
Sean struggled to keep his laugh to himself as Sara stepped around a speechless Billy and Sean followed. "What was that?" Sean laughed. Sara blushed, "I don't know. Just didn't feel like dealing with more asshole guys today, Jonathan was more than enough." She admitted and stopped in front of her homeroom door. Sean didn't question her, just gave her a quick hug and walked off to his own.
The day slowly passed, and Sara found herself seeing Billy everywhere she went. In classes, in the hallways, in the Cafeteria. EVERYWHERE. And it started to bother her. Especially since every time her eyes landed on the boy, he was already looking at her.
Sara sighed as she slowly took her sweater off exposing her band shirt she rocked underneath it. A few girls caught a glimpse of it and snickered and whispered among themselves. Sara ignored it, she knew she didn't fit in with the rest of the crowd and that she was a loser or a 'nerd' like they would call her. But she didn't let that get her down. At least she was her own person and knew what she wanted and how to stand up for what she believes.
"No wonder she only has one friend." Monique whispered to her group of slaves and they burst out laughing like it was the funniest thing ever. Sara ignored them and pulled her gym shorts on quickly before they could make fun of her undergarments.
She placed everything in her locker and quickly locked it so the asshole girls couldn't get in there and mess with her shit again.
Sara grunted when the coach informed the class that they will start off by doing laps, as you may think, she wasn't exactly an athletic girl.
She started with the rest of the class and soon fell embarrassingly far behind the rest of the student body. Her face was on fire and sweat dripped down when suddenly she heard footsteps from behind her, someone was about to pass her. Embarrassment flooded through her as she tried to push herself to go faster but the footsteps got closer, faster.
Within seconds someone was casually running next to her. She looked to the side to see the one and only Billy running next to her, looking majestic as fuck with his hair bouncing around his head. "I really want to punch you in the face right now." She huffed and heard the boy next to her laugh, but he stayed running next to her until the teacher blew his whistle indicating that they can stop.
Sara fell down immediately and huffed, sprawling out like a starfish. "You're okay, right?" The boy questioned and she just raised her hand, holding her thumb up.
"What are you doing running with her?" Someone asked and you groaned as you sat up slowly. Folding your aching legs underneath you. You looked up as Monique forced her body as close to Billy's body as possible. You rolled your eyes out of instinct.
"She looked lonely." Billy stated with a shrug, of course he'd be fucking around with someone as shallow as Monique.
"Oh, she is always lonely. It's not fun being at the bottom of the social ladder, is it?" Monique hissed at you. For once you didn't have anything to say so you just stood up and walked to the other side of the gym as far away from the assholes as possible. You kinda wished you had this class with Sean.
"Okay everyone, partner up. We're doing some routines today!" Coach shouted and you awkwardly rubbed your arm, looking around as everyone found someone to partner with and you were left alone.
"Wanna partner up?" Someone asked you and you turned quickly, startled. Steve was standing there smiling at you, you didn't really have a choice. It's not like people were fighting for your presence as a gym partner.
"Sure." You smiled and nodded your head. "I'm Steve" he said and stuck his hand out, "I know, we've met." You said with a blank face as you shook his hand with direct eye contact. Steve blushed and looked uncomfortable. You watched as his hand reached up and his fingers danced through the mop of hair. "Sara, by the way. Without an H." You smiled, trying to be kinder. Steve visibly relaxed.
You were having a great time with Steve, smiling at things he said and comments he made about his 'ex' best friend Tommy. H. You were in the middle of laughing loudly, doing wall-squats against each others backs when you looked over and saw Billy staring at you and Steve while clearly not listening to what Monique was telling him at all.
"Byers, Harrington! Do you want to do more laps!?" Coach yelled at Steve and yourself who were busy talking intently about how boring English class was. "Sorry coach." You and Steve both said at the same time. "Yeah, you're a distraction." Billy pipped in loudly gazing at you from the other side of the gym. The way he looked at you made your skin tingle and heat spread out through your entire body. He winked at you then looked away.
You were actually disappointed when the bell rang indicating it's time to go home. "Well, I had fun, Harrington." You said and saluted him before walking away. Steve just laughed as he watched you go. Your entire face was blood red, not because of the exercises, but by the fact that you just saluted another human being who isn't one of your brothers or your only friend, Sean.
You found an open stall and quickly got dressed, deciding to shower at home. You left the locker room quickly and made your way to your locker to get everything you need when you saw Steve and Nancy walk towards you. "Sara without an H!" Steve greeted, "This is my girlfriend Nancy, and we were just talking." While Steve introduced you, you smiled at Nancy and shook her hand. "That you should totally join us at the party tonight." He said with a huge smile, his arm lightly dangling from Nancy’s shoulder.
"Oh, thanks! But I don't do parties." You said back, thankful for the invite. "It would be fun, you can even drive with us. And all the alcohol you want." Nancy insisted, smiling brightly. You couldn't help but think it was fake. "Can I bring someone?" You asked and both of them nodded. "Then sure, what time would you pick us up?" "Eight?" Nancy said and looked up at Steve for approval, Steve nodded.
You said your goodbyes and stopped at your locker, your stomach turning at the thought of going to your first party. You got everything you needed then walked outside, the warm sun feeling great on your skin.
"Byers!" Someone called and you turned your head, seeing Billy leaning against his car, cigarette hanging from his lips. Your eyes moved back towards your brother’s car and saw that he was not yet there, so you walked over to Billy.
"What?" You asked, trying not to stare at his exposed chest, rather resting your eyes on his damp locks from the shower a few minutes ago.
He slowly took the cigarette out of his mouth and blew the smoke out. "What are you doing tonight?" He questioned, catching you off guard. "What?" You stumbled, trying hard to recompose yourself.
Billy smiled. "Do you want to meet at the party tonight?" You frowned. "Meet who?" You asked, instantly regretting it, your cheeks heating up. "Me." Billy smiled and pushed away from the car, standing a few inches away from you, his tongue flicked over his bottom lip and you couldn't help but stare at his mouth as he came closer to you. The smell of nicotine attacking your nostrils. It was a welcoming smell, because your mom smoked.
Your breath got caught in your throat when his chest slightly brushed against yours. Suddenly Billy pulled away and smirked at you. Flustered, you scowled at him. "For a second there I thought something was wrong with you." Billy commented and leaned back against his car. "Now I see you want me just as badly as the rest of the girls at school here."
You were shocked as you watched him take another drag from his cigarette, then he dropped it to the floor and then stepped on it with the front of his shoe.
Anger rushed through your body as you stared at his cocky face. "Just because I was flustered for a second by your weird godly features does not mean I want you. You might be good looking, but that does not make up for your shitty, boring, regular ass personality." You spat, stepping closer towards him while you spoke. His jaw clenched.
And just like that you turned and walked towards your brother’s car. Where, luckily, he was not there yet. You leaned against your side when you heard the Camaro's engine roar to life and speed off.
You might not have seen it, but Billy stared at you like he's never stared at anyone before as you walked away from him, where you just slightly bruised his ego.
