So one of the things that American Psycho – the book, not the movie – does to illustrate its narrator’s shallow materialism is devoting a lot of word count to describing characters’ outfits, except the resulting descriptions are just random mishmashes of high-class brands that any reader who’s familiar with them would recognise as something that would look clownish and absurd if you actually wore all that.
I was thinking about that, and then it occurred to me: you know what other well known work of fiction also does that?

Two pieces as I did as a commission set a few months ago!
They wanted me to draw some of their family members as kids with toys from the era they were born in. It ended up being a fun time and a good learning experience in many ways (I’m particularly happy with the hand drawn text in the first one). Excited to get to do this kind of work again!

Proposal: we start introducing ourselves like the main characters of ancient epics
I am a child of bits and pixels.
I am the turner of pages.
I have worn a thousand faces in a thousand worlds with a thousand names.
I have stared into the abyss, and when the abyss stared back I met its gaze and made it my friend.
Pleasure to meet you! How do you like to be called?

i lowkey forget that percy's full name is perseus. and like. that name goes so hard. because it just sounds like this mf could kick your ass. like imagine you're a junior in high school and your teacher introduces a new student by the name of 'perseus jackson'. and before you even raise your head to look at the guy. you just know this mf could clock you.

As I get closer to finishing my current wip, Saving Beyond, I figured I would introduce myself, and my book! Me first tho. In no particular order,
My name is Willa McClain (not really)
She/they, INFJ
I'm a college student and a STEM major who enjoys physics (when I'm not being graded on it)
Outside of writing, I enjoy reading, drawing, needle crafts, martial arts, lifting, hiking, and rock-climbing
My all-time favorite book series is The Maze Runner
I'm currently stuck on Jujutsu Kaisen
The above two bullet points seem to imply that my favorite trope is 'character kills their best friend and must live with the consequences'
I am also a sucker for a really good corruption/spiraling/insanity arc
My favorite genres to write (aka the genres of Saving Beyond) are action, drama, tragedy, romance, and satire (though admittedly, this one is a reach)
If you think the American military is stupid, I'm your gal
If you automatically headcanon every character in a piece of media as bisexual until proven otherwise, I'm your gal
If you liked mcr as a teenager and throw ass to their music as an adult, I'm your gal
If foreshadowing makes you make that weird, involuntary wheeze-screech noise and you're craving a story that forces you to reevaluate your perception of the world, I hope I'm your gal
Above all else, I hope that I'm able to connect with y'all by sharing a story that makes you feel things
Saving Beyond synopsis/character snippets/extras coming soon!(?)
