The Bottomfield calendula patch is seen here in the foreground with our high tunnel in the background. Lots of hot weather for the next bunch of days means rolling up the sides of the high tunnel and lots of water. Fortunately our transplants are much better settled in the fields this year compared to June of 2020 when we were hit hard by the heat and drought. All told, we got about an inch of rain this week. With our greenhouse turned into a temporary workshop for the Polycrub, I’m excited to share with you, that our next project is underway. The first job and not a fun one, was to dig 20 holes into rocky ground, to secure the Polycrub posts. Thank goodness for modern tools and Fastset Postfix, made it so much easier ... 🙏

I can’t imagine having to dig those holes by hand. Anyway, the posts are in and the Postfix is drying nicely, now we wait ...😅

A stroll through the tunnel to look at the tomatoes. The determinant and indeterminate varieties are doing very well. I had a conversation with two talented ladies today, Alex and Whitney, about the Women’s Camping Weekend event. We discussed foraging and the cooking setting for the event. Alex is a chef who offered her talent for this event. She is making decisions about the dishes for the event. She examined the vegetables growing in the tunnel and the field and looked through a few cookbooks and she and Whitney made some new suggestions for the menu. I can’t tell you how excited I am about their knowledge and enthusiasm about teaching and learning, about food and travel, about history and culture. These ladies love the outdoors, nature and spending time developing skills that are needed to spend time camping, hiking or fishing. These are the kind of things that will be seen at the Women’s Camping Weekend. Today was just the tip of the iceberg of what this event and others that will follow can present to attendees. We will post more about Alex so you can meet her, Tony and I are so please with all of the instructors and helpers who are dedicating their time to this event. We are glad to have our farm serve as a place where agriculture, foraging, camping, history and culture meet.
