everyday i remember bokuto is like
a legitimate captain. he's the captain. his teammates mutually agreed he should be the captain and made him the captain
he gets everyone hyped up, he cares about his teammates, he's the guy responsible for the volleyball team and making sure everyone's working hard and feeling good and not dying
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
and i think the perception that he's just an emotional idiot is arguably the most tragic thing about bokuto. he's good at what he does, he's capable, he's aware of his faults, but he didn't ask for intense mood swings that actively hinder his quality of life. and he's like 17 or 18, which probably makes everything worse.
and then there's akaashi, who's out here memorizing everything that comes free with neurodivergence and Messes Him Up and looks for ways to help and in retrospect, is a blessing to teenage bokuto's life tbh

Hiii if you are actually serious about taking requests then I was wondering if you could do something fluffy based on hozier’s song ‘to someone from a warmer climate’ because as someone from somewhere very alike to Ireland in climate it did something my heart heart the first time I heard it lol. I love how you write Andrew and just how you write tbh if you do end up writing it thanks in advance 💛💛💛
It came easy, darling
This is actually perfect for me right now because it is actually colder where I live than it is in Antarctica right now. Im being so dead ass.
Rating: PG-13 (this is the tamest fic I have ever written)
Warnings: Hozier x gn!reader, fluff, comfort, established relationship, COLD weather, not even attempting at using irish slang cause I’ll fuck it up.
Coming home from work today was an utter nightmare. You could’ve sworn that rain while it was so cold was arguably so much worse than snow or ice.
You had lived here your whole life and yet it never got any easier to live somewhere where it got this cold on a regular basis.
Today though, there was something different about this cold. Usually it was manageable, but today, you had trouble even with your numerous layers, staying warm in the brief periods of time that you were outside. It was the kind of cold that chilled you to the bone.
And what made it worse was the fact that the heater in your car had all but decided to completely shit the bed this morning. By the time you had gotten home, you could have sworn that you were at risk of losing a few toes.
Walking through the door, you were almost immediately greeted with the sound of Andrew upstairs playing with the band. You smiled. His idea to convert one of the extra bedrooms in the house you lived in together into a music room had been a fantastic one. He could work and record from home whenever he wanted. He loved being able to let an idea take him whenever the inspiration struck and having everything he needed in one room in the house made that so much easier for him.
You began peeling off your (now soaked) outer layers to hang them on the coat hooks next to the door. You quickly realized that even though you had been wearing several coats, the rain had soaked through to your shirt. Wonderful.
Still shivering, you made your way upstairs to your bedroom and quickly replaced your wet clothes with dry ones. Sweats and a shirt you had gotten from Andrews side of the closet, which was almost comically large on you.
You were still quite cold, so you grabbed a blanket from the bed and wrapped it around your shoulders before making your way toward where the band was practicing.
You loved watching them play. Specifically, you loved watching Andrew play. It was like his music transformed him, he was passionate and powerful and confident when he was playing. You entered the room quietly and curled up on the small couch Andrew had put in the room, specifically so that you could sit there and watch him if you wanted to.
They were running through a moment silence (common tongue), a song which he had written in one night while sitting next to you after and encounter which at the time he had said was “some of our best work”
You always wondered how he could get up on stage and sing about such things, especially considering that just listening to the things he had written about some of the nights you’d spent together made you incredibly flustered.
You found the whole thing sweet of course. The idea of this man being so entirely enthralled with you that you had inspired a rather large portion of his music over the years was flattering to say the absolute least. You were his muse and he made sure you were all too well aware of his music being about you, even if he was incredibly private about details when it came to his following.
“Love, you’re shivering.” Andrews voice pulled you out of your thoughts. You were so far in thought that you hadn’t even realized how cold you really were.
“Oh, yeah it’s a bit cold out there. I got a little bit wet with the rain, Im okay though.” You shrug a bit.
“No you’re not. Go to bed, turn on a movie, I’ll be there in a a few minutes.” He stands from his stool at the front of the room and sets his guitar down on the stand by the wall.
“It’s fine, I don’t want to interrupt.” You shake your head and move the blanket farther over your shoulders. “I’m okay, really.”
“We were just about done anyways, you’re not interrupting anything, darling.” He chuckles quietly and walks over to take your hands, pulling you to stand in front of him.
He places a soft kiss you your forehead, causing a happy sigh to escape your lips. “Go to bed, I’ll bring you some tea.” You nodded and leaned into his touch. You were still cold, so it didn’t take much for you to give up and do what he asked.
When you got to your bedroom and laid down under the blankets, it was the first time that you fully recognized just how cold you really were. You were violently shivering, teeth chattering, and desperately rubbing your legs together under the covers to try and generate heat.
You moved to pick up the remote from the nightstand next to Andrews side of the bed, turning the tv on. You scroll through Netflix, looking for something to watch for a bit before Andrew came in with two coffee mugs and handed you yours before making his way to the other side of the bed.
He wraps an arm around you and pulls you closer to him so that your head rested against his chest, placing a kiss on the top of your head. “Why don’t we watch that documentary you started the other day?”
You gave him a funny look. “I thought you said you didn’t like watching murder documentaries with me?” You both laughed a little bit as you went back and clicked on the title.
“Yes, I think you’re weird for spending so much time learning about how people get away with murder, your bad list is not a place I would want to end up, however, you’re cold, so I’ll humor you.” He squeezed you a bit tighter for a second, and you started to feel yourself warm up just a bit.
He was always so warm. It was like just radiated heat from his every inch. You always found yourself nuzzling into his heat, but especially at times like this, being so close to him was one of the best feelings. Even when you weren’t saying anything to each other, moments like this were your favorite.
The intimacy between the two of you in moments like this was something that you always craved. The way he absentmindedly drew his fingers through your hair and held you so close to him was something you ached for when he wasn’t around, a privilege that you could never imagine taking for granted.
You found yourself paying more attention to the even sound of his breathing and the fluttering of his heartbeat than what was happening on the screen. You closed your eyes, sighing in content as you listened.
Every part of him was made of music, it seemed. His heartbeat was steady, creating a steady rhythm for the air in his lungs to sing along with. He was magnificent. Everything about him was nothing short of awe inspiring. He was beautiful, perfect even.
I could hear him start to hum a melody that was unfamiliar to me. It was beautiful. It was a soft, soaring melody line that was a little bit higher than his usual range. Nevertheless it was beautiful.
Looking up at his face, he looked completely lost in thought and he hummed the melody. “If you need to go write, its okay. I’m nice and warm now, it’s fine.” You smile up at him lovingly. You simply adored the way his mind worked. The way he could make music out of the simplest of thoughts.
“No, I wanna stay.” He pulled you even tighter to his chest, you were almost impossibly close, but it was in no way uncomfortable. “You help me think.” His face held nothing but pure love and adoration looking back at yours. You didn’t think it was possible to feel this much love for one person, and yet there he was holding your whole heart in the palm of his hands, the same way you held his.
His voice was soft, loving, so incredibly soothing as he sang the words while they passed through is head.
‘The feel of coldness only water brings
There are some things that no one teaches you, love
That come natural as a dream, you didn't know that you were in
And darlin', all my dreamin'
Is only put to shame
And darlin', all my dreamin'
Has only been given a name
it came easy, darlin'
As natural as another leg around you in the bed frame’
You could feel your heart melting at every word. Every time you thought that there was no possible way your love for him could grow, he did something that made you fall endlessly more in love with him. He truly was the only person you could ever see yourself being with.
Loving him was the easiest thing you had ever done, and hearing that he felt the same made your entire being melt into a puddle at his feet. You were putty in his hands. “I love you endlessly, Andrew.” You said it softly, but with so much power. Like if there was one thing in the whole world you could be sure of, it was your love for him, and to an extent that was true.
You loved him recklessly. In a way that was so intense it engulfed your entire being, swallowed you whole.
“I love you, more than anyone has ever loved anyone.”
:) I hipe this was okay, thank you for the request love you <3

Hey 👋
What do you think about tee's character?! This character is so confusing he cares for white a lot and protects him but he did worse things to non. We know he also needed money for his father. What do you think about him and how white and tee met and fell in love. Tee only listens to white and also what you think about white ? Is he only related to the group because he's tee's boyfriend. Tbh I'm loving their couple, their chemistry is so good. 🫠
Thank you so much for this question!!! I actually find Tee's character entirely fascinating tbh - he's a bully but he shows these moments of complete and utter humanity that I find really sympathetic and compelling.
Like I'll never justify what he does to Non - framing him for breaking the camera and then using that debt that he manufactured to pull Non into money laundering isn't exactly excusable. But I find it so interesting that while we see Tee doing all of these insane things, we also see these little moment of humanity throughout. Like when it's made clear that Tee is mostly working with his shady uncle to help get money for his dad - we don't know what kind of medical treatment his dad is undergoing, but clearly something severe that costs a lot to treat.
Tumblr media
Tee is in arguably just as desperate a position as Non (if not more desperate). He's stuck needing money, dragged into illegal activity by his uncle, in too deep to get out. Does that excuse him being a manipulative bully? Of course not. But it's fascinating to me because it would've been SO easy to make Tee a non-sympathetic character, and yet we see all of this depth to him.
We're also shown that he didn't want to get any of his friends involved in the money laundering, including Non. He knew it was bad and illegal, and he didn't do it until he was completely and utterly backed into a corner, until he'd exhausted literally every other alternative and his uncle gave him an ultimatum.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Which is interesting because you think he wouldn't hesitate to pull in Non even before that, since he doesn't like Non. But he does hesitate. It shows that he has some ethics, and some sense that what he's doing has the potential to ruin whoever is involved. And he doesn't want to ruin Non, despite disliking him and picking on him at school.
Of course, he reverses this action by proceeding to get Non involved. And then, when Non goes to get the rest of their friend group involved, he backs Non up. But not because he's greedy, but because his uncle is shorting him left and right and he still doesn't have the money for his father's medication OR to pay Non.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Tee's position is parallel to Non's. He needs the money. He's into illegal shit he doesn't want to be in, but is forced in deeper every day by the people pulling the strings. And he, like Non, is just a kid. He shouldn't have to be discussing money laundering with his uncle at 17 years old to help pay for his father's medical bills.
And even though Tee continues being a dick to Non throughout the past (even going so far as to help his uncle make Non disappear), he shows hesitance at every turn when his uncle demands things of him, and he tries (weakly) to defend Non when his uncle starts saying Non is a police spy.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
And after he brings Non to his uncle and Non "disappears," Tee can't stop himself from asking what happened to Non. Tee doesn't even like Non, and yet he still shows clear signs of fear and upset at the thought that Non might be dead. Because he knows he'd be complicit? Maybe. But he's also a teenage kid caught up in illegal things against his will. He might genuinely feel bad about it. His expression certainly conveys more than just guilt...
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Does any of this balance out the bad things he does throughout the past? Of course not. He's still a shitty person and should be in jail for the part he played in Non's disappearance. But he's also fascinatingly sympathetic in the way he's forced into all of these actions. He clearly doesn't want to be doing any of the things he's done, but feels as though he has no choice. Either because his uncle will hang him out to dry for the police, or because he still needs the money for his father's treatment.
That said, I don't find Tee's treatment of White in the present dissonant to his character in the slightest. To me, it's clear that Tee is the type of person who cares deeply about those close to him, he just doesn't let a lot of people get close because he's experienced far too much pain and manipulation at the hands of his family. Tee is soft with White, but more than that, he's devastated when he learns that Por has died.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Tee cares. He cares a lot. He cares about White, he cares about Por. He arguably cares more about himself since he often abandons White during stressful situations, and is more concerned about what White will think of what they did to Non than he is about what he actually did to Non. But I think that he knows he had no choice (or at least, in his eyes he had no choice) in what happened to Non.
Anyway, this got long ahahaha I just find Tee's characterization to be so interestingly done. He's one of the most deeply complex characters in the entire show, and shout out to JJay for conveying all of his complexities so well, he's an amazing actor.
As for White... well. White is still a question mark for me personally. I wrote a theory previously that White could be Non's brother New, and I still think that's a possibility. I've also seen a wild theory floating around that White is actually Non himself, he's just gotten plastic surgery.
It's possible that White is exactly what he appears to be, a mostly-innocent bystander. Especially since White defends Tee when the others talk about thinking Tee did something bad to Non, and shows clear horror when Tee talks about burning Dang's corpse.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I'm not sure exactly how Tee and White met, but I think they're pretty compatible. White wants someone to take care of him, and Tee likes having someone look up to him. Tee also has a lot of love and care to show, he just doesn't/can't do it easily because of his history.
Because I find Tee sympathetic, I kind of hope that White isn't using Tee as part of the revenge plan (though I know a lot of people want that) because I find the idea of the one person Tee has opened up to turning around to betray him that way completely heartbreaking. But I also know that within the narrative, Tee is the villain. He's the main catalyst to everything bad that happened to Non, so it wouldn't surprise me if the story has set up exactly some twist like that happening to him for revenge. We'll have to see where the story takes us but personally, I think they're cute together right now!

Listen, Polin has been my Roman Empire for months now, but this fandom is WILDIN’.
Chunks of this fandom who claim to be Polin fans seem to hate either Colin or Penelope and I’m just like… why are you here, then, if you refuse to empathize or even TRY to understand either critical half of the pairing?
“Colin can’t see what’s in front of him and he insulted her in front of his peers!! GROVEL; I hope Pen moves onto Debling!!!”
First of all, you’re not a Polin fan if you hate Colin so much you want her to move on to someone else. Second of all: yeah, no. Yes,Colin put his foot in his mouth, arguably in a big way because of status, but plenty of people in real life have experienced saying something that came off poorly to a group of people. Everything we know about Colin’s character tells us he is going to feel horrible about it; he’ll apologize, MEAN IT, and she’ll forgive him. She has her own apologies to make.
Believe it or, it is NORMAL for people to grow into romantic feelings slowly. Stop punishing Colin for discovering who he is by experiencing his own character arc with his own mistakes. He’s allowed to have flaws; he’s allowed to work through his insecurities!
Tbh, most of the criticisms I see of Colin are pretty surface-level and petty, so I don’t give them much real estate in my brain because they’re just… bad, lol.
On the flip side -
“Penelope feels entitled to Colin’s feelings; she’s selfish and the fucking worst!!”
S3 Penelope: *overhears Colin say he would never court her; BELIEVES him - decides she’s going to stop wasting her time, move on, and look for a serious suitor and marriage prospect a) as is expected of her in this era and b) so that she has security, especially considering her family’s dire financial straits.*
“Oh my GOD, this is so anti-Polin, how could she POSSIBLY even THINK about accepting a proposal from anyone but Colin?! GTFO”
SIGH, 1) we have NO IDEA how this plot line is going to pan out: Lord Debling may or may not be serious about her, we don’t know what that even looks like, or for how long. The show synopsis historically likes to play with the fandom expectations a lot. He may possibly propose… and if he does, it would clearly exist as a sort of parallel to S1…. but 2) GOD FORBID Penelope entertain the idea, despite very real fears and evidence that would lead her thinking it would likely be her ONLY proposal… or that even if Colin proposed post heavy-petting session, how on EARTH could she think that he would be doing it out of honor-bound obligation and not love. 🙄 Her potentially considering a proposal isn’t anti-Polin; it’s a realistic response and consideration to two (and likely an additional half) seasons worth of external and internal stressors that are tying into her character development.
Penelope’s heart is fragile for a multitude of reasons due to her home life, her prior experiences with Colin and Eloise AND the rest of the ton - it’s incredibly frustrating for people to ignore why she would potentially not believe Colin even if he DID confess / give her a marriage proposal, just like it’s frustrating when people don’t try to understand why Colin might struggle with his own feelings.
Some of y’all really don’t understand people like Penelope who have been told their entire lives that they are not enough, are terrified of putting themselves out there by being emotionally vulnerable and potentially rejected for the fundamental aspects of who they are… even though some of y’all claim to identify with Colin when he has his OWN STRUGGLES WITH SOME OF THESE SAME FEARS. And it’s almost worse because Pen is painfully SHY: You don’t just magically become confident one day because you decided to be; it is a constant battle against negativity that eventually becomes heavily internalized… it takes years of work unlearn those thought patterns, especially when you’re surrounded by people insulting and rejecting your to your face (her family) or behind your back (the way the ton talks about her family… it’s likely Pen heard gossip about herself, whether individually or as an extension of her family PLENTY)… with an added dose of also being ignored when not actively insulted.
It would not shock me at ALL if Penelope genuinely considers a Debling proposal. All of Colin’s actions in S1 and S2 have ultimately taught her that he is never going to return her feelings; she is likely going to be pretty oblivious to his own romantic realizations this season because why would she look for or entertain those hopes again? Some of y’all complain that she is selfish about Colin’s romantic feelings (which lol, I disagree strongly, but sure hypothetically, I’ll allow it) … so then when she tries to move on by listening to him and his actions she’s suddenly… punishing him and undeserving of him?? When she would have every reason to be skeptical of these feelings coming from seemingly nowhere when he starts of the season trying to find her a husband? NAH fam, she’s doing what anyone with any sense of emotional self-preservation would do: move on and try to be content, even if she knows she’ll always love Colin in her heart.
AND even if Penelope develops potentially fond feelings for Debling… do you really think it’s unrealistic for a 19 year old young woman who has done nothing but pine over a man who is oblivious to it (or worse, finds a romantic relationship with you laughable… in her eyes), who has not had ANYONE be romantically interested her… to maybe get a little fluttery around someone who is reasonably nice looking and shows her genuine interest right off the bat? Spoiler Alert: that is probably exactly what would happen because it’s a heady feeling!!!
This entire plotline is either a parallel to the Marina situation, or a reference to the book line that basically has Colin going “Oh shit, what if I had never realized Pen is the love of my life?? What if someone else had seen how amazing she was and snatched her up??” - Maybe it’s even both! Deep breath: it’s a just plot device for Polin to realize they’re made for each other.
Colin and Pen are going to be on their own journeys this season that fly in the face of what the other is going through. Colin is grappling with newfound romantic feelings for Penelope (while likely struggling to trust them because he thought he loved Marina but lol no he didn’t, so how is he supposed to know???) while also battling against former (and potentially current) impulsive actions… and Penelope is fighting for her LIFE trying to bury her feelings and move on because she’s trying to protect her heart because Colin literally said out loud he’d never want her AND she’s likely thinking of her security. They are both grappling with internal conflicts that oppose the other and THAT is what is going to make the tension and development so good… and that’s without even addressing all the LW stuff that needs to get worked through!
I need y’all to flex that empathy muscle a little and realize that this isn’t about fucking fan-service, or you projecting your own experiences onto these characters (or even the weird self-insert “I am/want to be this character” or “I want to fuck this character”) - you can relate to these characters but ultimately it’s about the STORY - it’s about exploring these characters realistically in how they would react to their own traumas and lived experiences, and how what they think they want/need comes into conflicts with their counterparts.
This is a romantic DRAMA, and these characters are going to have their ups and downs… and it’s a Shondaland drama for better or worse, so you KNOW it’s going to get messy (good lord just look at S2 and how far that “love” triangle went… I’m hopeful for the new show runner because she’s a fan).
Polin will be canon because they unreservedly CHOOSE the other and it will be glorious, so everybody chill the fuck out and stop shitting on my imperfect, emotionally fragile yet beautifully relatable, evolving lovers. They are the BEST fucking ship, but most of this fandom doesn’t deserve them tbh. They’re both messes in their own ways, and honestly? If they were real, neither Colin nor Penelope would tolerate this slander y’all are throwing at the other.
LEAVE COLIN AND PENELOPE ALONE AND LET THEM MUDDLE THEIR WAY TO TRUE LOVE. 🤬

Mera how have ya been lately? (◕ᴗ◕✿)
I hope you're doing fine!
The ghost bride cards got me feeling some typa way tbh. All of those men fighting to be the groom, imagine if that's how the apocalypse au was like, except darling is the leader/esteemed personnel. Each of them fighting for darling's attention!
Anyways, as always, thank you for feeding us with yummy meals and content.
Xoxo ~ Izuna
Omg maybe darling is the leader of the Ramshackle Compound!!!!! The compound was originally abandoned (of life) until you and Grim discovered it, and with the help of the ghosts inhabiting it you were able to turn it into something livable and secure! Not many know of its existence until, unfortunately, the intelligence branch of Ignihyde catches drone footage of you coming and going. And someone ends up leaking it to the other compounds and now everyone wants to unify Ramshackle with their respective compound. Most of all, they wish to meet the elusive compound leader who seems to be so good at fending for themself. :)
Riddle isn’t opposed to a marriage with you. After all, that’s how many traditional unions happen. Kingdoms of yore have done it, and Riddle is dedicated to following tradition down to every detail, however minuscule. He’s rather impressed you managed to survive on your own. That’s a commendable feat. Once he weds you, you won’t have to worry about struggling to get by. You’ll have access to all of Heartslabyul’s resources. No more hunting for food yourself! You’re under Riddle’s rule now, and that’s arguably worse than living in isolation with Grim and a few ghosts.
Leona’s also impressed, which is something the average person can’t accomplish easily. He’ll want to meet you promptly, if only to see if the rumors surrounding you are true. Are you really a strong, capable fighter? Or is that just some nonsense story made up to make others think you’re some untouchable, fearsome herbivore? Although the more impatient he becomes, the more he takes a liking to keeping you within Savanaclaw’s compound. Your reputation is interesting enough; now hopefully it’s the same for you as a person.
Azul’s frustrated and overwhelmingly envious. Had he known about an empty compound, he could’ve expanded his influence! He’s already built up such an impressive stronghold both on the land and in the sea, but he’s always been so ambitiously avaricious. He wants what you have, but most of all he wants you. You’re a cutthroat thing, always so determined to survive. And you’re taking care of your strange…pet? He’s not sure what Grim is, but he’ll know soon once Jade and Floyd capture the both of you. He’s willing to go about this peacefully; he’ll nudge you into a contractual marriage. It’s the smart thing to do in these trying times. <3
Kalim’s excited to know someone new exists out there. He wants to meet you and become your friend. He doesn’t even consider the fact that you could be dangerous or infected. He’s just curious and wants to welcome a new friend! When he learns it’s only you in the compound, he feels so sad. :( you’re all alone in there. Doesn’t it get lonely? You must come to Scarabia! He’ll make sure you’re never lonely. :D
Vil has always considered the possibility that there are more out there, and to think it was proven correct with your existence is somewhat of a relief. Even if it’s only one person, that’s one more added to a dwindling population count. Somehow it’s more bleak that way, but Vil won’t allow himself to become stressed or saddened. There is no debate to be had; he will meet you, and if he determines you useful and safe enough you shall become his. He has lots of strict criteria for his evaluation of you, but from footage alone he’s seen you’re quite capable on your own. At the very least, you know how to wield a weapon, so Rook won’t have to instruct you in that area. Although your hand-to-hand combat is lacking… You could use a few lessons. Luckily, you’ll get that and much more when he welcomes you into Pomefiore.
Idia hates his life, but most of all he hates the loser who leaked that footage. This was supposed to be his big discovery! He was going to keep it a secret and everything, if only so the other compounds will keep their slimy, greedy paws off of his stuff. >:( Idia only wants your compound so he can use the empty rooms for his hobbies. It would be fun to have another larger space for gaming. He could furnish it to his liking and use it as a second getaway when he wants to escape all of his responsibilities at his compound. It was the perfect plan! So Idia makes it a mission to get to you before anyone else can, and with high-tech on his side it’s entirely plausible. :)
It’s a wonder the footage made it to Diasomnia, but Lilia has his way of keeping himself informed. He advises Malleus of this new development to see where the fae prince stands on the matter. Malleus takes a liking to you right away because he sympathizes with your being alone. If possible (and it is; anything’s possible when you’re one of the most powerful mages in the land), he’d like to meet you and see if an alliance of some sort can be formed. Of course from a logical standpoint, it makes sense. Two compounds are better than one: resources, information, and manpower can double and be shared between the two. But then Malleus isn’t thinking that way. He’s thinking of how nice it would be to give you the gift of companionship when he extends a gracious proposal to you. Hopefully you’ll agree. Secretly, he’d like to be close to you and learn all there is about the mysterious human and their animal companion braving the horrors of a ruined world.

I think the fight between Aphmau and Garroth at the end of season 2 reads a lot better if you don’t look at it from a “who’s right and whose wrong” perspective and just absorb it as a natural consequence of the narrative.
These two had gone through the emotional ringer leading up to the confrontation, and one way or another something was bound blow over. As a side note, I don’t think either of them were that out of character during the scene either, which I’ve seen some people argue.
Two of Aphmau's main character flaws is that she a) wants everyone around her to be happy all the time and b) she forgets to consider the full consequences of her actions. Part B is obvious in this situation, and as for part A, she had plenty of chances to tell Garroth she was pregnant before the whole invasion but chose not to because she didn’t want to make him unhappy (this was confirmed by Katelyn). She’d honestly prefer to tell Garroth bad news when he’s already upset and make him feel worse rather than tell him when he was happy/content and interrupt the peace (though I doubt she’s consciously aware of it).
And we’ve seen that Garroth is fully capable of being cold and snapping when he’s upset, though he seems to reserve it for people he genuinely dislikes or is deeply upset with. We’ve just never seen him reach that point with Aphmau (arguably save for end of s1, but I still chock that up to magick-fuckery). Because she was the one person who kept him grounded, and he did not ever want for her to see him in an uncaring light.
Was it morally right of Garroth to yell at her after being told? No. Did he come off as manipulative when he questioned if she had ever cared about him? Yeah. Was he acting as though she betrayed him when he knew they were never officially together? Pretty much.
Was it understandable that Garroth would be outwardly upset after being told the woman he loves is having another man’s child after weeks of building stress? Yes. Directly after finding out his mother was about to be executed and his home had been laid to siege? Double yes. Was him questioning his entire relationship with her a natural, instinctual response after realizing she had kept it from him for a substantial amount of time? I’d say yes.
Was it morally wrong for Aphmau to sleep with Aaron? No. Was she obligated to tell anyone about her intimate relationships? No. Was she responsible for the way Garroth acted? No.
Was it incredibly stupid for her to have told Garroth right after he found out his mother was going to be executed? Yes. Should she have anticipated that it was probably a bad time to announce she was pregnant? Yes. Was Aphmau toeing the line at feeling sorry for herself and playing the victim in order to initiate sympathy from Garroth throughout that conversation? Personally, I’d say yes.
They both acted in a way that was manipulative, as is what happens when two people are upset and in conflict. You want the other person to feel a certain way, and you say and do things that aren’t necessarily fair in order to make them feel it. It’s not about right and wrong, its just about making yourself and your misery heard. It is natural, and nature does not have a moral compass.
I’ve seen a TON of arguments on a ton of different platforms arguing about whether it was Aphmau or Garroth who was being manipulative towards the other and it all totals up to be pretty 50-50, and tbh I think that is the best seal I can get for my claim. People usually side with whoever they think is most morally correct, and everyone has opinions and biases they’ve settled into that impact who they side with. With a score that even, you know it really comes down to a personal moral standpoint.
Thing is, this wasn’t a moral argument. it was simply a well of building emotions that hit its limit and flooded way over capacity.
It’s not about who deserved to get yelled at. It’s not about who deserved to get rejected. When it comes down to it, it is about two people at their own personal breaking points who spiral into reverberating their anguish on one another. They were neither entirely justified or condemnable for feeling the way they did or for the way they spoke to one another.
And that is why it makes it so frustrating and uncomfortable to the audience.

Let's see for a character with a small amount of screen time:
Kairi's the first to bring up Riku's condition at the Secret Waterway, reaches out to him as the world is attacked by heartless (weaponless and only left at his urging), reaches out to stop him from running away (though some of yall just want to attribute that to ~being for Sora~), stays even though he now looks like the guy who started all of this (to her knowledge), encourages him to be himself and no one else including Sora, is excited to see him when she wakes up after a long sleep (Sora's location was mentioned afterward), and trusts his judgement when he greatly implies she's not ready
not in this silly meme: still feels comfortable joking with him, did invite him to talk at the paopu tree (he refused bc he had to talk it out with his clone brother), still wants to go on that damn raft with him, AND MORE
AND YET
"~But she said she wanted to leave him behind tho~ she doesn't care about him~"
I suppose I just want people to try to give her the benefit of doubt sometimes. Why expect the worst/most selfish from her? Is it some weird way to give her a """flaw"""? uh one of her flaws is that she makes jokes at the worse timing tbh but seriously i and a lot of Kairi fans wouldn't get as frustrated if yall gave her the same leniency as yall do for some characters who've done so much worse, arguably less, or have even less screen time

Steam was already coating the windows, and the air inside the car was thick with sweat and sex. Well, close enough to sex.
There were still too many layers between you, too much of a barrier to get to what you so desperately wanted. Needed.
“Steve,” you moaned as his grip on your hips tightened, rolling your core down against the rough material of his jeans.
His hands drifted down, pulling your skirt up and grabbing your ass, kneading the cheeks lightly as he kissed down your neck.
“Fuck, so good baby.” You could barely hear his whispered words over Foreigner playing on the radio. “Been waiting for this.”
You and Steve had been dating for almost 6 months, and every time you got close to finally having sex, something interrupted you - whether it be the literal end of the world or Dustin showing up unannounced (which was arguably worse when your shirt was off and your hand was down Steve’s pants.)
“Pants off, Harrington. we’re doing this.” He laughed and you couldn’t help but smile at the sound. Sure, the backseat of his BMW wasn’t the most ideal place for you to have sex with him for the first time, but you’d take whatever you could get at this point.
The boy was beautiful and you were smitten for him.
He arched his hips up into you, trying to pull his jeans down, and your head bumped the roof of the car.
“Ouch.” You pinched him in retaliation, and he pouted as if he were the one with a possible concussion. “Take it easy.”
“Sorry, sorry.” He placed his hand at the nape of your neck, pulling you down for a kiss. “Forgive me?”
He was so goddamn cute, you couldn’t help but laugh, kissing him again, this time deepening it at the feel of his boxers against you instead of denim.
“Condom?” you asked, and Steve's eyes widened for a moment, before a look of relief washed over his face.
“Center console.” he squinted. “I think.”
You rolled your eyes, turning your body around to dig through the console. Sure enough, you pulled out several condoms.
“You having a lot of sex, King Steve?”
His face turned blood red, and you reveled in the achievement of causing the Steve Harrington to blush - as if the Steve Harrington wasn’t your boyfriend.
“Uh, no,” was his reply, and you laughed again. Sure, he had been getting cosmically cockblocked for a few months, but there was no way he wasn’t getting laid every weekend before you came around.
You raised your hips as much as you could without hitting the roof - again - so Steve could slide his boxers off, then let him pull your shirt from your body. His eyes widened at the sight of you with no bra on, as if he had never seen it before. You laughed at the entranced look on his face as you tore the foil packet open.
Once you rolled the condom down his length, he held your face in his hands and looked into your eyes.
“Are you sure?”
You nodded, giving him a peck on the nose. “Are you?”
“Of course.” His words were low, wanting.
Finally, he reached between your legs and pulled your panties to the side, dipping his fingers through your folds. No amount of waiting could prepare you for the feeling of him touching you where you needed him the most.
“So wet, baby.” He pushed one finger in experimentally, then a second at the sound of your moan, and a third at the sight of your eyes rolling back. “Can’t wait anymore.”
“Then don’t,” you whispered in his ear before you repositioned yourself and sank down in his lap.
The sound of your combined moans could have rattled the car windows. The feeling of him inside you after waiting so long was indescribable. You settled for a moment, hips resting in his lap, just taking in the fullness of him.
“God,” he moaned, leaning forward to lightly nip at your mouth, sinking his teeth into your bottom lip. When you squeezed around him, he bit down hard enough you thought he may have drawn blood. “Are you okay?”
“More than.”
You ground your hips into his, making him squeeze his eyes closed tight. His hands found his way to your ass, gripping your cheeks tight, then he thrust up into you.
Both shock and pleasure caused you to lurch forward, and your hands grazed the glass of the back windshield, leaving messy handprints in the steam. You brought them back, intertwining your hands through Steve’s hair as he fucked up into you.
It felt like you were just along for the ride - lost in the pleasure he was giving you. With your hands still in his hair, you buried your face into his neck, unprepared for how deep he was.
“Is that good, baby?” You moaned as one of his hands snuck between your bodies, rubbing circles into your clit until you were squeezing desperately around him.
“Fuck, I’m coming.” Your voice came out pitiful and needy, stars exploding behind your eyes as you squeezed them tight.
The feeling of you contracting around him pushed Steve over his own edge, and his hips stuttered to sloppy thrusts until you were both panting, sweaty bodies pressed together.
His forehead rested against yours, giving you small pecks until you caught your breath.
“That was so much better than I thought it would be.” He sounded amazed.
“I’m sure it’s not very different from all the other times you’ve had sex, Stevie, but thanks for the compliment.” Your laugh was as light as air, the post orgasmic bliss rolling through your body.
“There were no other times, baby.” You pulled away in shock, hands holding his face and inspecting for any sign of dishonesty. “You were my first.”
“No fucking way.” You were in disbelief. “Why didn’t you tell me?”
“I was afraid you wouldn’t want me if you knew ‘King Steve’,” he raised his hands to make quotation marks, “was a virgin.”
“Oh honey,” you said gently, running your fingers through his thick hair. “You didn’t have to keep that from me. I’d love you no matter what.”
The two of you froze as you realized what you had just said. Even though you’d known it from the first time you saw him put his life on the line to protect one of the kids, you had never said it, fearing it would be too soon.
“You love me?” He whispered, and you nodded - not sure whether or not to be scared of his reaction.
“Thank god.” A smile split across his face as he said it. “I’ve been wanting to tell you since the day you came into the video store.”
The two of you pressed forward into a kiss filled with love and tenderness - the first of many, you hoped.
“There’s one more thing,” you teased.
“What’s that?”
“We definitely have to do this in a bed next time.”

Thoughts/speculation on The Bad Batch:
Weirdly, I am actually more hopeful for a positive ending now than I was before Point of No Return.
(Episode spoilers, discussion, and speculation below cut)
So, this is coming from a point of being pretty sure that A) CX-2 is Tech (because who the fuck else in this series says 'domicile", literally nobody, I was on the fence until that tbh) and B) that Omega is Force-sensitive (and that they've been dropping hints about it since Season 1). Even if she's not Force-sensitive, she's incredibly intuitive and has an amazing mind for strategy, which has been repeatedly proven.
But minor things that could have been guesses on her part - identifying Cid, calling out Crosshair while they're in the brig, bonding with Batcher, and in a way never giving up on Crosshair - also could be manifestations of a minor and untrained connection to the Force. If we do see indisputable Force abilities from her, my guess is they'll manifest in minor prescience, sensing the emotions of others, and bonding with creatures, since those are all things she's already shown. (I don’t think she has Jedi potential, but it bears repeating that not every Force-sensitive is or needs to be a Jedi! [Or a Sith.])
And Omega - tactical prodigy who can (probably) sense the emotions/general thoughts of others, is alone in the shuttle with CX-Tech. Possibly with some form of tracker - she and Crosshair knew she’d be scanned. She gave up one comm and wasn’t scanned again. Not having fallback plans would be unlike them, even if those plans are sometimes very much by the seat of their pants.
Because the Batch had plans for everything and Tech made her learn them all.
Now, what sticks out to me about CX-2 in this episode is that he has notably, despite orders, very deliberately avoided killing any of the Batch members during the invasion of Pabu.
It would have been no trouble whatsoever for him to blow up the Marauder a moment later, when Wrecker was inside of it. And he made the decision to shoot the pilot of the gunship - in the neck, through the cockpit window - an arguably harder shot than Hunter, who was in the open bay, and easily capable of bailing out and swimming back to shore when the ship crashed.
And he's taken Omega in the shuttle with him, with no other guards, and left her unrestrained in the cockpit aside from a pair of binders. And while she’s a child, and was pressed into docility during her time on Tantiss, she’s still a clone, one who’s been trained and tested by the team that boasted a 100% success rate until Order 66.
And, if CX-2 is Tech and the storyline is mirroring itself, then let’s go back to 2x09, The Crossing, where they’re trying to extract ipsium from Cid’s mine. Omega is struggling, Tech is set against his family, and quiet heart-to-hearts are had as Tech and Omega sit together in the blue-lit dark, separated from their brothers - which leads to reunions, solutions, and escape.
So - it may not be the devastating reveal of a helmet pulled from an unconscious-or-worse body that I originally imagined - it may be quiet, knowing questions and a helmet calmly lifted off and set on the console to look at his sister with his own eyes.
...of course, whether he still knows her or not is the question.

a huge issue with romance right now (and I mean, tbh? commercial lit in general, it's arguably worse for YA atm) is that people are currently considering books about people who do not act the way the reader morally thinks they should... flawed
like, y'all think a character being intentionally written as a problematic individual is a FLAW, when in fact it was a CHOICE the author made, usually to incite conflict and/or trigger character development
I mean, I'll use Laura Kinsale's Flowers from the Storm (a book a Goodreads user I was mutuals with told me not to read when I simply added it to my TBR) as an example
Jervaulx is a SHITTY PERSON. We are introduced to him while he's in bed with his mistress, a married woman; he realizes she's pregnant and casually tells her to go fuck her husband to trick him into thinking the baby is his, because Jervaulx ain't got time for that baby or that woman. He then meets a fellow math nerd who is blind (which by the way, love that he is also into math, man contains multitudes) and notices that the blind man's daughter is a) hot and b) a Quaker.
Jervaulx asks this man "do you know what your daughter looks like" the man tells him it's been a long time since he saw her, and Jervaulx basically takes this as an opportunity to very seductively describe this woman, even though SHE IS A QUAKER AND IS CLEARLY MADE UNCOMFORTABLE (and turned on, let's be real) BY BEING DESCRIBED IN A SEXY WAY IN FRONT OF HER DAD (who absolutely does not pick up on what Jervaulx is putting down but whatever).
This man... is an asshole. And he's an asshole on purpose, because the entire story is about taking a man who has a lot of power and a lot of casual ability and privilege and bringing him down to an EXTREMELY low point, which results in heavy character development (and which does NOT, I should add, turn him into a perfect person! Because people aren't supposed to be perfect! Because perfection is boring, and while boring may work in real life... maybe... it does not work in a story in which we are supposed to have plot and character and forward motion).
BUT NEVER FEAR. Maddy, the aforementioned Quaker and his heroine, is also KINDA UNLIKABLE. Because she is so devoted to her faith (to the degree that it would be hard for readers to relate to her, even when the book was published decades ago) and she is frankly snobby, and closed off, and judgmental. She has GOOD INTENTIONS much of the time, but she is not initially a very emotionally accommodating woman, and even when Jervaulx is brought low, she does not WANT to like him. Because he is not a Quaker, he is not a Friend, and Maddy is not, in the beginning, open to the idea that you can be a good person or become a good person without conforming to the worldview that she has been convinced is morally correct. And in fact, her worldview may not actually BE wholly correct, even if it does have solid points that disrupt a corrupt class system.
It's almost like many readers could also benefit from learning that their worldviews about what makes a good person and character could in fact be flawed and unrealistic and
Fiction is not meant to be didactic and the fact that the current market is increasingly punishing authors for writing books that are not is incredibly disturbing. It's why we have so many books that are either incredibly boring, or swing towards cheaply written dark romance which is not actually good (to be clear: I think dark romance CAN absolutely be good). There's a desperate market for it, I think, because at least that's something readers who want something not Good and Dull can latch onto
Basically: please God read more books about people who are kinda shitty and plots that are kind gray, I promise they won't bite

A Hopefully Quick Compare/Contrast of Lex and Bruce; Clark and Lex; Bruce and Joker (Et. al.)
"Batman is basically Luthor but good."
"Luthor is basically Batman but bad."
No and no.
I think it's high time that fandoms (DC's in this case) finally start to put an end to overly simplistic—if not downright false—takes and conclusions like this.
Like, I don't mean to sound wrongfully condescending (because I know Lex and Bruce definitely have at least a few traits in common, on average), but I don't understand how anyone who has actually tried to dig at the cores of these two characters (and their respective hero/villain) could make statements like these and then just call it a day.
Again, nooo.
Lex Luthor, if he "became good" (ignoring the emotional journey he's currently going through right now in recent Superman comics) would not be Batman. He'd be Superman!
You want to know why? It's because Lex, arguably since at least his inception in the Superman comics and Action Comics, has not been written to be the "dark mirror"/shadow of Batman, but of Superman.
Almost everything that makes Clark so amazingly gifted and inspiring, Lex has also—but in a twisted or far less appealing way.
Likewise, a "bad/evil Superman" (if written well and not like just another murder-happy blatant tyrant) would be Luthor!
Imagine a Superman that, after self-actualizing, chooses to selfishly mold the world to his image without care for the opinions of the people, but with the same hopeful, altruistic mindset and aspirational worldview that we're used to. In that sense, he'd be less wantonly cruel and preoccupied with spreading fear everywhere he went and more-so misguidedly paternalistic and smothering. So similar to his usual self, but far worse. More like....(a tough-on-crime) Lex Luthor.
I'd argue that Superman: Red Son illustrates an amazing example of this within its pages. I won't say that it's "perfect" (I don't do that with anything, tbh.) but seeing USSR-Superman and America-Lex Luthor be true equals on the mental plane and somewhat physical and even moral, too (but with differing worldviews), is somehow very refreshing and satisfying to see. Highly recommend reading it, even if only out of curiosity.
Now as for Batman? Based on my understanding of him, his shadow self is most likely the obvious choice of the Joker, or may even be Bane or Two-Face. Bruce has a lot of issues, but he (mostly, usually) has not reached the depths of depravity that these three have, especially the Joker. He could, though. That being said, could and would they be Batman if things had been different for any of them? I believe so. Correct me if I'm wrong but didn't they come out with just such a Batman-Joker graphic novel a year or two ago?
However, I don't think any of these Batman villains could ever have been Superman. But Kal-El's pretty hard to match anyway. Just ask Lex.

I’m back on the prooooowl, these bitches better have my moneeeeeey—-
Backdoor entities headcanons!! + a bit of au lore
Tumblr media
Blitz
He/She/it, Bigender
Rush’s sister/brother (goes by both!) + littermate, was separated from from it before they were 14 or so after a certain..incident.
Was Raised by Rush’s sire, who was in a QPR with Rush’s mom.
He never stopped looking for them.
Makes a lot of SHEEEEEEEIT jokes because of her pronouns.
They are only funny to her. (And Rush. And Sally because she’s a daddy’s girl.)
Holds a lot of confusion and a tiny bit of resentment towards her mom.
Currently sharing Lookman w/haste (polycule with Lookman as the hinge.)
Curly fur/fog but in a raggedy way. Torn lookin almost. With less scars then her brother and Gray-ish.
Teethers are a lil crooked.
So, interesting thing about bbg is she has heart issues. Worse that her brother does, so to counteract this, she has this funky collar thing that buzzes really hard and then injects her with this funky glowing red liquid that makes her stop and take a breath and THEN injects her with an even FUNKIER green one to keep going.
Has a lot of strain on his heart, takes a lot of naps with her brother/with Lookman.
Curi + Lookman made him the collar <3 TCL loves technology and Lookman added the comfy parts to the collar so it’s ez to wear.
Bbg is VERY pain resistant.
also has a tiny vision issue (one of her eyes is bigger then the other).
Makes up for both disabilities with extreme, EXTREME sheer aggression.
Will barrage people with near constant attacks. Exhausting them.
Rush and her don’t meet for AWHILE, and when they finally do it’s a bit confusing but then it’s super happy and they pretty much just cuddle like they were never separated at all!!
They still do have their “oh yea we were separated for several years” moments though.
They look at eachother autistically.
Very touchy. Loves to preen Lookman with his teeth.
She loves Sally and Dupe, gives them little rides in her fur and frequently dashes around with them on her back.
Has insane reaction time, would be awesome at rhythm games.
Simultaneously is extremely observant and yet has the attention span of a gnat.
Lookman
It/he
Nicknames includes looksie loo, Looker, Looks, Lookie Cookie.
In a polyamorous relationship with Blitz and Haste, with himself as the hinge.
Extremely skinny, moth-like creature with long, thin wings, fucked up glowy eyes, and just, slenderman lookin headass.
Drinks up blood and fat primarily through its fucked up proboscis straw mouth, but can also drink nectar and would actually prefer some fruit tbh.
Kills you via the large spots on its wings, which by looking at them. They’re not really shaped like eyes, more so like the big red star things you see in game.
Very persistent, and arguably the best hunter right next to Haste. Practically on you for the entire experience.
Was romanced by Haste with some raspberries it picked for it outside the hotel.
Loves having its wings massaged and Blitz is happy to oblige.
Has long antennae with little balls at the end of them.
Squeaks like a deathhead hawkmoth when excited, anxious or hungry.
Baby of the group, the other two take good care of him.
Really Chill, all things considered.
Probably the most normal out of all of them.
Haste:
He/Him
Formerly human.
In a poly relationship w/Lookman and sharing him with blitz
Really violent, he probably did something bad while he was a human being.
Has an alarm clock that Curi has to reset the seconds via levers to keep that mf asleep.
As soon as he hears BEEP BEEP BEEP that guy is GONE.
Emits a really toxic gas that kills a human being in minutes.
Makes the person sees red, makes them bleed from the eyes as he speeds over to finish the job that the gas and his teammates started.
He’s very good at it, and kept the other two fed through the famine.
Works well with Blitz and Lookman, hunting-wise anyways.
Mostly just gets along with Lookman outside of that. He’s okay with Blitz because she’s dating Lookman too so-..mean as shit except to literally two people in existence.
Able to throw his head at people.
He’d bully you if you if he were a real person.
Very spiky
Smells rotten.

Gamzee Makara
Tumblr media
Submission reason:
Started off as a pretty interesting character, a Highblood with a high social ranking but without the typical aggression. I thought he was a cool contrast to the violent expectations of troll society, even if he was on drugs, and he did have some sympathetic moments (talking to Tavros/Eridan and the scene where his negligent lusus died). And then suddenly he gets off the drugs, and it turns out that without mind-altering substances he’s just inherently a bad, violent person?? Like, genetically or something? He just ended up being a plot device, and Homestuck literally ends with him still trapped in a fridge. I get why people don’t like him, Hussie turned him into a literal monster, but I thought he was a fun character with a lot of potential behind the juggalo stereotype. To be honest, it feels pretty off that the neglected stoner kid who was a kinda sweet dude on drugs just magically turned out to be naturally awful and irredeemable. Kind of a weird message.
His point of view became non-existent after he became an antagonist. His personality and thoughts were just thrown out the window. He was stripped of all character and depth and used as a pure plot device. He faced so much canon abuse that was meant to be ""funny"" (man was shot and crowbarred so much). And when Homestuck 2 was a thing the writers mocked his childhood trauma and legit turned him into a pedophile with a foot fetish who is part of some weird cucking fantasy.
Abandoned by his lusus (animal guardian/parent) in his younger years, never learned not to do certain tasks because of it. Developed unhealthy behaviors and actions all for it to be thrown out in favor of him becoming the ""crazy killer clown that kills all his friends because he's off the influence of drugs""
Gets stereotyped and then has all his characterization flattened and thrown out the window and they just turn him into a mindless murder object plot device with no real story or conclusion or closure and is just a big joke in general despite being one of the most important characters.
he had so much potential for story and further elaboration and I feel like they just kinda gave up on my boy gamzee tbh
Sweet stoner boy and silly friend who liked to goof around with his friends, and who was neglected by his parent. Murderous and wild, but still recognizable, still with a valid character arc. And then... ah whatever the fuck all that was.
Introduced as a stoner obsessed with miracles (ICP parody) I found him annoying at first but his whole schick really started to grow on me. AND THEN. He sobered up and became a generic murderclown for the rest of forever. Complete 180 in personality, no character depth, do not pass go. At this point ""Stoner Gamzee"" and ""Sober Gamzee"" are practically different characters in my mind
when gamzee's introduced he's this fun little sober clown guy who just really wants to make sure his friends are happy. then they turned him evil and?? didn't really explain exactly WHY? but were so firm in him being evil and no one being able to help him? despite how OUT OF CHARACTER that was for EVERYONE? he gets calmed down once and then everyone just decides he's still a horrible person DESPITE forgiving vriska who did arguably worse things. AND his character is a really racist personification and the way they handled his shitty villain arc made things so much worse in regards to that
Could have been so so much, could have had stuff happen, but nooooo he's got to just be part of the big bad guy's evilness. Dude I'm mad, I'll never get over this. I want a Gamzee who deals with his issues and fixes his realtionships. I want gamkar to have gone nicely okay????
Propaganda:
Hussie, the creator, openly hates and rags on Gamzee and is doing all this fucked up stuff to him just to hurt the fans who still like Gamzee.
Please. Please he's so abused. He takes so much shit from other characters and before he was slaughtered as a character he was so sweet and chill. He never once assertively put himself down even when he was uncomfortable.
One of his outfits has a cod piece. Is literally a clown.
TC: I'm NeVeR bEiNg GeTtInG cEaSeD tO bE aMaZeD bY aLl ThEsE fUcKiN mYsTeRiEs LiFe'S gOt FoR uS.
I have a lot of big feelings about this little clown, have this meme I made: https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/778343155065946142/1114133861299933205/Untitled246_20230602030931.png
We are the Homestuck site and we always will be #gamzeedeservedbetter
i used to not like him bc i was blinded by the hatred of him killing my fave but then i saw that it wasn't really his fault. how could it be his fault? the author consistently treats him as nothing more than a narrative device to carry out the villains' murderous will. it's not fair.

The reality is that most kids would be either a Fluke or Jin. If nothing else it’s because they don’t also want to be bullied or ostracized by their friends. You can criticize the choices that Jin makes but realize that he is also a child that doesn’t yet have the maturity and wisdom of an adult. I see this group of teens and their treatment of Non as a cautionary tale. Obviously this is ultimately a horror/thriller so everything is heightened to the extreme. Therefore I don’t have an issue with the gore, mayhem and fantastical elements. But this type of bullying could and does happen in real life sometimes with devastating tragedies. So I do wish that people on social media were more careful of the terms they use and directly harassing your character is not a good look. Hurling insults behind a computer screen hurts just as much as doing it in person. (IMO) The fact that they are essentially bullying you is ironic considering what DFF is about.
There is a certain irony to watch the fandom turn into bullies in defense of the bullied character. I understand being defensive of the characters you like (I'm defensive of Jin in case you haven't noticed lol). But I understand why people don't like him. I've never justified all of his actions, but I do genuinely think people are too hard on him a lot of the time.
And I also wish all the Non defenders would have a bit of nuance about his character too because he's a victim, but that doesn't exempt him from hurting others. I'll never say he cheated because I beleive we shouldn't apply that word to a situation involving coercion and power imbalances. But Non does still get his friends arrested. And he does lie to and gaslight Phee. And those are okay things to acknowledge while still having sympathy for him as a character.
I agree with you. I think most people wouldn't even do as much as Jin tbh because while he doesn't do enough arguably, he does a lot as far as defending Non over and over and over (even up until after Non disappears he's still snapping at his friends to address Non by his name). And it's really hard to be that level of defiant to your peers constantly. It's waaaaaaay easier to be Fluke and look the other way and tell yourself that you're not involved then, even if you could stop it.
Everyone online seems to have a hero complex and think they'd do the Absolute Right Thing even when there's no clear right thing in certain situations, and then they demonize these teenagers for not doing those things. (I made a thread on Twitter talking about Jin lying to the police and police corruption in the DFF narrative and in Thailand in general, including linking to a bunch of Thai tweets that talk about that and I got people replying to me saying that they live in countries with police corruption but they still would've told the truth to the police even if they would've disappeared and I got a good laugh out of that. It's so easy to be the hero in your head in a hypothetical situation, but reality is a lot harder than that).
Yeah, I don't know why this particular fandom seems to be so caught up on "if you like a character that I view as morally bad then YOU are a bad person" especially considering the audience crossover to the KPTS fandom like. Were you mad at all of the mafia boys doing mafia things in KPTS becaussssssse that was worse than a lot of what's happening in DFF so far ahahahaha
Anyway, I'm not ever going to demand that everyone likes Jin. I don't particularly care of people like him or not as long as they're not coming after ME about it. I wish people were a little less... vitriolic about the mistakes of teenagers, though I understand why many people are so mad about it. I just can't get past the idea that these people were all kids when they made these mistakes, and it's hard to see even Por die because I have sympathy for them all. Did they fuck up? Duh. Do they deserve to die...? I have a hard time with that, but I'm trying to be mentally prepared ahahahaha
I also hope all the people out there who have decided Jin is the worst person ever and deserves to die are prepared for if that doesn't happen. Because there are a lot of threads in the narrative point pretty strongly to a future redemption for him IMO (tho of course they could go in another direction, anything is possible at this point). And I have a feeling that all those people who are calling me names on Twitter aren't going to handle it well if Jin get redeemed or like... lives in the end. I have a feeling they won't handle that well.
Anyway, thanks for the message 💕

PROPAGANDA
Mapleshade
Apparently some parts of the warriors fandom can't wrap their head around an unreliable narrator. She's not an innocent victim or a pure evil villain. She's complex. She was selfish, she took advantage of people but she was also cheated on by her mate (who by the way face little to no repercussions for having a half clan relationship with Mapleshade) and forced to leave her kit's bodies to be buried on RiverClan's territory, where she'd never be able to see them again. Mapleshade is a cat that never learned how to face the consequences of her actions. She arguably went insane from having her whole life be torn apart from her in a single day. Tbh I'd argue that if she was a tom, more people would be sympathetic towards her.
a woman will murder 3 people, use a dead guy's name to protect her and her kids' reputation, groom a kid into becoming a xenophobic dictator and people will still claim that she's an innocent justified victim. i love her and think she's a very interesting character (with her killing people partially to avenge her kits) but god, half the fandom doesn't read the books and it shows.
Future Luke
Warning: This character is a walking spoiler so PLEASE tread with caution if you haven’t played Professor Layton and the Unwound Future. It’s a game so dear to my heart that everyone should play. With that out of the way… I love him and I get it. I do. He was one of the first fictional crushes I remember having way back in the day and even though that’s way long past, I still think he’s neat as a character as is the role he plays in the story. Yes his backstory is tragic (Bill Hawks go to hell challenge). Yes it makes him sympathetic in a lot of ways. Yes it would be so nice to see more canon content with him someday, maybe set far after the events of the game, where he gets some kind of true redemption arc and makes good on his word to atone for his wrongdoings. But. He is antagonistic in a looot of ways that people brush over because half his fandom likes to woobify him (the other half fully acknowledging that he’s awful and embracing it). He objectively still kidnapped, trapped, and gaslit dozens if not hundreds of people. The Mobile Fortress incident, an act of national terrorism, easily could have a death toll in the thousands. Even if getting revenge on Bill specifically was justified, ruining the lives of innocents in a disaster, not too much unlike the very one that killed his parents and led him down the path of destruction, was not. He deserves whatever consequences he gets and then some tbh. As an aside, while this thankfully isn’t as common as it was in the early 2010s, people shipping him with Flora leaves such a bad taste in my mouth. They have an 8-9 year age gap, with Flora being a minor (her age is never explicitly confirmed but per reasonable assumption, she can’t be above 15 *at most*), which seems to get conveniently forgotten about - not cool!! Their only significant interaction in the game is him kidnapping her after the big reveal, which while not worse in canon context than anything else he does, is gross to frame in any kind of shipping light.

The Striaton Triplets a don't have much depth, as with many of the league members.
Sure they get more in the anime, but that can be said about literally any character.
Woooooh boy the straiton triplets are obscure alright. I haven't really thought of them much tbh, and when I have, I haven't been able to get many headcanons of my own. But hey, that's what these asks are for, eh? Let's see....
Starting with Cilan, let's get the obvious out of the way. The anime made him a submas twins fanboy, so I'm making him a submas twins fanboy lmao. Moreso due to his interest in trains. Speaking of interests I also feel like he has an interest in botany. I know I know, grass type leader, good with plants, it's cliche yes. But it's more so he can grow his own herbs for meals! It's a group effort between him and his brothers, but off the three, Cilan definitely has the green thumb. I imagine he's also a really good singer, and he likes singing when he's attending the plants. That being said he is painfully shy about it, despite his brothers encouragement. I think Cilan, just from his memory link with his brothers, is the more....non combatant of the three? Both in his shy nature compared to his brothers, but also like. He's more accepting of a certain rhythm or expectation, and doesn't really try to change that? At least to me. Post BW has certainly changed that for him, but it's still a flaw I think. He accepts things how they are even when they aren't great. And it's not entirely his fault, I just think he doesn't always see The Problem, you know?
Chili, ngl, give me younger brother energy. Or maybe middle child energy? No clue lmao. I think, of the three, he's the most interested in battling. He likes the energy of it! Of the three, Chili is arguably the best cook, and has a pretty diverse palette. Sweet, savory, spicy, you name it, he got it! Unlike Cilan, can't sing for shit. Got amazing dance moves though ( a great tap dancer). He....is very bad at ignoring rumors. It doesn't help that Cress is a sucker for them. He's even worse at not taking them to heart sometimes. Sometimes it's justified ( look at the memory link) but sometimes he gets ticked off if someone says anything bad about him or his brothers. He's not good at letting things go ( though, at the same time, he would often forget what he was upset about unless what's being said was really bugging him). Chili is the one that wants to be seen as his own individual with his own strength the most. Cilan is too complacent in his eyes, and Cress....well Cress understands but also thinks Chili's overthinking it ( which, to an extent, he is).
Cress! The trio's main gossiper! I don't know where I got this idea from but it's funny thinking how easily Chili falls for whatever shit Cress talks about. 99% of the time it's fake, but he's not telling Chili that. Cilan can sing, Chili can dance, and Cress can play a mean piano. He also can make a stellar latte. Not in combatant like Cilan, but not as eager for a fight like Chili. He likes battling, naturally, but it's like. " Okay, well I like this enough, sure". I think he's also, somehow, the one who's the most organized of the three? He's the one that makes sure the other two are on track with work in my eyes ( again, that memory link changed how I see these three). It's usually him and Chili butting heads but when there's a moue serious conversation in which Chili and Cilan aren't exactly seeing eye to eye, he's usually the one listening to both sides, and making sure everyone remains level headed ( mostly Chili, but you get it).
Now. These three, in my eyes, are teens. Who are they're parents? Where are they? Never said. It's not unusual for kids in the pokemon world to be doing this type of stuff, but you still gotta wonder about it. So I propose this: The restaurant that is their gym was just a restaurant before. It became a gym after the three became gym leaders ( why three gym leaders? Because alder thought it would be funny. Plus he didn't have the heart to pit the boys against each other). Said restaurant was and still is owned by their parents, they've just taken a back seat due to the gym leader thing. Once the boys retire, the restaurant comes in full swing! And....yeah that's all I got.
Hopefully this was an interesting read! I wasn't expecting to have Thoughts about these three but here we are. I have Thoughts about the three monkeys at what they mean for the triplets but that's for another time. And yeah! Thank you for the ask!
