if you don’t mind could you break down how you draw bodies? nothing in depth, just the basic guidelines ! i’m trying to get better with anatomy and i don’t think the guidelines i use right now are the best… i love the way you do anatomy and was hoping to see your process of getting an initial pose down and making sure the proportions look right :D

Ok forgive me for leaving this unanswered for months, I promise I wasn’t ignoring it I was just busy and also trying to figure out how to best answer this aljskjs

Ok anyways so I broke down the absolute basic basic steps that I like to do for my figure, but I didn’t quite get into the specifics of anatomy and stuff like that (I’d have to do a whole lecture slide and well…. That’ll take much muccchhhhh longer) but anywho!

So I’m certainly not the be-all and end-all of anatomy/pose advice, but I’ve found that breaking down the figure like this into simple shapes is one of the best way I figure out a pose in the years I’ve taken classes/figure drawing myself. A good exercise is to do some gesture drawings with a time limit (for speedy folks like myself (hehe) I like to keep the sketches down to seconds! But if you make a nice sketch in say… 3-5 minutes, that’s a good time!) gesture drawings are literally just drawing people posing (live drawing sessions are really fun, but pictures are just as effective! I’ll say Pinterest is pretty solid for looking up dynamic poses to practice with, but if you just look up something like “dynamic poses online” you can find lots of solid sites that have collected poses over the years! Also do mind some of these have nude models option so if you are in public, at work, and if you’re a minor, please mind those options) another good method is to actually directly trace the figure itself. Not to get too into the ethics of tracing or whatever (good for practice… bad for “saying it’s yours and whatever”), but sometimes tracing the figure directly can help you understand what parts of the body connects to what, and overall would help you identify the various body parts a little better. But yeah! So that’s the gist of it. Again I haven’t gone too deep into the technicalities of anatomy as I would take much longer to do so (one day I will!) but I hope this answers at least a part of your question and helps you on your artistic journey :3

Violet rolled her eyes slightly at your words and nodded. "Yeah."

One of the first things Violet told you about when you arrived in this damned house was Tate. Telling you to ignore him, and pretend he wasn't there since he was just trying to get back to Violet. However, Tate hadn't shown himself to you yet, so you doubted he would now, once everything about him was spilt to you. You'd experienced a lot of school shooting drills in your time, but hearing that someone in the house with you, was the one to commit the crime...it was almost breaking.

"listen let's not focus on Tate. He doesn't matter."

"I suppose not."

"it's Halloween soon." Violet breathed out, a small smile painted on her lips. You first bonded with the girl about the shared love for All Hallows Eve. A little hum left you as a response as she perked up, holding your hands. How could a ghost's hands be so soft? Nightmares on each finger, yet they were never shown. Every tiny second of eye contact resulted in her nightmares disappearing. The main nightmare was still around. He always would be. Perhaps the girl felt a small ounce of comfort in your presence. "Let's go around the neighbourhood together."

"Hm?" You tilted your head slightly, confused. While you knew she was a ghost, you believed the spirits lurking around the house were bound to the roots and the base of the bricks. "When?"

"Halloween! We can spend the day together. Just us."

Her words enticed your confusion. "Hey, Vi! Stop, rewind. What do you mean?"

"I can leave the house during Halloween. I never did before, I never saw a reason to. But you're here now! Much better than being alone annoyed in the same routine all the time." The reminder hit your heart, as you remembered the girl sitting in front of you was also a spirit, lingering about the hallways. "Just us two. Not any other ghost. Or your parents."

Without anyone else. That would be nice. It sounded too familiar to the ghost's mind, however. The damned blonde...

Hiii!! I think I might have told this story or part of this story before? Or like, implied it lol. But uhhh. so. lmfao. iirc I literally was like. "I feel like getting into 00q." And just started reading fic on AO3, LMAO.

like I think I was into Man from UNCLE at the time (the movie), and probably had already gone thru the tag on AO3 and new stuff wasn't rolling out fast enough at the rate I was reading, and I was like. hm what else is spy-y. oh yeah that 007 guy. Noooot sure if I was already aware of 00q already by then? I feel like I might have seen the National Gallery scene clip by then? or maybe not idk. some gifsets or posts prooobably had crossed my dash so I was aware of them, probably? I don't remember exactly anymore

but yeah lol. it was very Douglas Adams-esque. "hm... 00q will do"

tbh tho I felt well-equipped to do this bc when I got into stevetony via [redacted] but ultimately thru MCU and went to AO3 and started at the very end of the tag (that was a thing I did back then ig, I don't know if I do it now lmao...), it was all comics-'verse stuff lmao. but I read it anyway! and it was characters I was kiiind of familiar with and events I knew not at all, but I was like. well. if it's important then I'm sure it will come up in the fic, and/or I'll start picking it up the more fics I read. I think it helps that the older stevetony stuff on AO3 especially by and large was (hopefully still is? hopefully it's still up there) is by a lot of great comics-verse writer heavy-hitters, so like the writing itself was very engaging and also I did indeed start picking up the "essentials" I needed to know, both in terms of characterizations/character dynamics, and also universe stuff.

but also lowkey I feel like in general... like obv being a fan of the material you want to be at least to some degree aware of the actual stuff in the source material. but ALSO I do lowkey feel like it IS very possible to engage with fandom for fandom's sake, you know? Like, you can be here for the stories told through the collective storytelling vs necessarily having to ONLY be able to get to the fandom through the source material first.

the caveat here ofc is like. obv then be aware that you are engaging with the material through a sort of... what do I want to call this, perception filter? at at least one level of remove/abstraction a la cuil theory? like, by engaging with the media about the media, be aware that there's a layer of interpretation already filtering the material you are seeing. although idk, I guess in a way this is only really suuuuper relevant imo if you're trying to write meta (which I feel like is a lot less common these days, rip, remember when we used to have meta...) or do like interpretations or analyses or even judgments on certain things, if that makes sense? like just be aware you're reading the tweet about the article vs reading the actual article itself, and it's cool to be like oh what you said in this tweet is interesting in itself & let's spin off of that- but be aware that it may not be exactly what the original article was saying. This though is getting into kind of a tangent and is me kind of also gesturing at the like. ppl who do Pass Certain Judgments on the source media despite not engaging with it. but I feel like that's less common in the 007-osphere and/or possibly. less relevant because lowkey in the 00q sphere we work with like certain sets of fanons as given anyway.

but yeah lmao. I def started reading the fics before I watched the movies - although I probably did pull up the clips on youtube and watched those at some point. I. cannot remember at what point I watched the movies. ...I assume I watched the movies at some point lmao. well okay by this I mean. as for how did I get into 00q, the current brainworms edition. they'd been sort of in the background for me for a while, but never really foregrounded until recently? But then I spent like. 16: How exactly are you feeling at the moment?

I'm feeling good! One roommate is yearning for being turned into a maid, another is playing tabletop games online, and the last three roommates are watching through Fast & Furious and having fun analyzing what it communicates about American culture. So a cozy environment. I'm backreading what happened while I was asleep and answering a fun ask on tumblr.

26: What are you craving right now?

Honestly, I reallllly want to mark someone right now. It's been too long since I left someone covered in hickeys and bite marks and bruises and I'm yearning. I need to leave someone so visibly used and owned that they feel embarrassed about it. The downside of my roommates all being busy (she's figuring out the logistics of a maid dress now) is I don't have anyone to play with.

37: Is it easier to forgive or forget?

Well, uh. As an expert in doing both, forgive probably. Blunt dissociative force forgetting generally has long term consequences and sleep deprivation mediated forgetting is unreliable. There's also just "wait ten years without thinking about it" but that can be actively difficult. Forgiving just requires a little bit of self hatred and a lot of forced empathy, which feed into each other very well. Frequently also has long term consequences but not always.

54: Is cheating ever okay?

I'm wayyyy too poly for the primary interpretation of this question lmao. I feel like 'cheating' in a heterosexual context has two very different meanings depending on the partner doing it. Patriarchy yada yada. In general it represents a break down of expectations and communication. At the same time I support women who cheat on their boyfriends implicitly.

62: What makes you happy?

Hm. In terms of "things i do to make myself happy", successfully accomplishing Tasks, talking to people who like me, making ppl have strong emotions, eating good food, and occasionally just existing. In terms of "things other people can do to make me happy", give me attention (either in the form of dms, asks, tags on reblogs referencing me, whatever), let me use you, compliment me, talk to me, uhhh idk what else. I like people, most of all.

1. How many works do you have on AO3?

32 published on AO3. If I include unpublished and/or unfinished stories that I have on my laptop I’d say I have a total of around maybe 45?

2. What’s your total AO3 word count?

729,333. Definitely over 1 mil if I count anything unpublished. I didn’t even realise it was that much before this moment.

3. What fandoms do you write for?

Lucifer. I may have dabbled in other fandoms in my teenage years but we’re not going to talk about that right now.

4. Top 5 fics by kudos?

5. Do you respond to comments?

I try to! Sometimes I forget though :( I absolutely read and cherish every single comment I receive though!

6. What is the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?

Never to Me. It was unintentional really, as it was meant to be the first part of a 1 part story. Certain circumstances lead to me completely losing the desire to continue writing the second part (it’s over half finished!) and so I never posted it. That was like… at least 3 years ago. What is time? I hope to finish it at some point but I’m just too busy these days with work. This is really the only story I’ve left on an angsty note.

7. What the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?

Like I just said, I don’t do many angsty endings. I love to play with it in the middle of the story, and orchestrate killer cliffhangers between chapters but I like to make everything work out in the end. I always liked the John Lennon quote, “Everything will be okay in the end. If it’s not okay, it’s not the end.” So yeah, a lot of my stories have endings that I think are happy. I’m not sure I could say which one is the happiest.

8. Do you get hate on fics?

Unfortunately I’ve had a few horrible comments. I try not to think about them for too long though. It’s a drop in the ocean compared to the amount of lovely, thoughtful comments that I get 😊

9. Do you write smut?

No. Far too British for that.

10. Craziest crossover?

Lucifer and Loki. My only crossover really. Also on do regretfully have not finished but it’s definitely out there in terms of craziness.

11. Have you ever had a fic stolen?

Yes, but I feel that it was more of a misunderstanding than anything and the person who did it took it down (along with a lot of others they had posted) fairly quickly.

12. Have you ever had fic translated?

Yes! A reader of mine translated Project Deviant into Russian.

13. Have you ever co-written a fic before?

Also yes! Project Deviant was co-written by myself, @oh-mylordy, and @self-indulgent-sapphism. I also started writing one with my beta @notonelineff but we never have gotten around to finishing it. Co-writing is hard. Especially if you’re writing a long project.

14. All time favourite ship?

Deckerstar I guess. The amount of fic I’ve written should be enough evidence of that.

15. What’s a WIP you want to finish but doubt you ever will?

Hm. Not sure on this one. There’s a few I want to finish but I’m still hoping to get around to them like I’ve said.

16. What are your writing strengths?

Uhhh. I feel like I’m decent at descriptions. I try my best anyway. I try to keep things fluid and set the scene in a way that feel natural and not just stick you with a whole block if description at once. I’ve definitely improved at plotting long fics as well I think. I personally think I’m good at writing suspense when it is called for.

17. What are your writing weaknesses?

I definitely get stuck on words or phrase and will waaaay over use them until my beta tells me off. I’m really not great at keeping things short either. And it’s not even like my one shots keep turning into long fics, but more that I can definitely over describe and draw things out more than is necessary. I don’t really know what else. I’m sure I have many things that I could improve but I do write for fun and so I try not to get myself too down about what I could be doing better. As long as I can convey the story/scene/emotions that I want to it happy.

18. Thoughts on dialogue in another language?

I’ve tried it a couple of times. Never more than a like or too, just to convey the purpose that I want it to. For example I would love to show Lucifer being omni-lingual more because it was something I did love about his character in the show but it’s so hard to do in writing without making it overly complicated for the reader. Therefore I settle for throwing in a line here or there and leaving it at that. Also, my knowledge of language really doesn’t extend past Google translate so I don’t want to end up saying the wrong thing.

19. First Fandom you wrote in?

Doctor Who when I was about… 15 or so. They are no longer on the internet. It’s probably for the best.

20. Favourite fic you’ve written?

Ahhh asking me to pick a favourite fic is like asking me to pick a favourite child. I really do love the universe we built in Project Deviant though, and the sequel A Glitch in the System. I thoroughly enjoyed every part of plotting and writing those fics, and dabbling in the universe of one of my favourite games. It also allowed me to write a lot of things that I’d wanted to for a while so that was nice.

However, I also really do have a soft spot for All That Remains. Writing that fic emotionally wrecked me but I still love it.

Also I’m pretty proud of Resistance is Futile writing and plot wise. It was just a fun thing that I wanted to write but I was pleased with the case part more than anything. I wanted it to kinda feel like an episode of Lucifer and I personally think it does.

I did a top 3 instead of 1. Like I said, you can’t make me pick. It’s just not fair.

I love talking about these guys, my writing, fandom in general, anything, and if somebody takes the time to comment i want them to know its appreciated. that said i DO either miss some sometimes or just get overwhelmed with life but it is always my intention.

6. What's the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending? Uhhh for all the angst IN the stories i'm actually secretly a softie i usually leave things pretty good. but. ok if we're doing story not series, then its definitely A Composite Unity

7. What's the fic you wrote with the happiest ending? Princes of the New World, the end there is PURE wish fulfillment in a way I had never done before and likely never will again. Wanna see Silver be a pretty princess and then get fucked so good it breaks canon? Also Kittenfic if you want something that is actually not smut for once. Yes it has actual kittens. It is sad and sweet and i think reasonably plausible in canon, but. It was written for a ficfest prompt "betsy has kittens and silver adopts them on maroon island.'

9. Do you write smut? If so, what kind? OH BOY DO I lol. I'm not gonna say this is what I'm here for, but, sex is definitely one of my main lenses for exploring character dynamics and psychology. 'What kind' has varied a lot.

10. Do you write crossovers? What's the craziest one you've written? Not yet, though I've done some concepting. I got pretty far into planning a Hannibal/Black Sails crossover with a friend (set in Black Sails canon era) and that concept still haunts me.

17. What are your writing weaknesses? Showing things in summary rather than getting into every damn detail. Heavily plotted fic, fic that covers a long period of time. At least, these are things I don't do intuitively and have not yet pushed myself to do? Also imagery, my writing is pretty functional.

18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language for a fic? Absolutely fine, but do it well. Which to me means, if it is not a language you speak fluently, google translate is not enough, ask a native speaker to review it. Also, needs to be there for a reason. There's gonna be some Spanish in longfic once I finally get back to it.

The Seven Princes of Hell

Vincent on the whole is both predictable and unpredictable. His role can be summed up as Hell’s war general, along with the Prince who surveys the borders of the different Circles and, if needed, keeps them in check. A less powerful demon could do this, but the princes operate with a “if you need something done right, do it yourself” mentality. In general, he is highly likely to react to situations with anger or violence, fond of action and with little tolerance for confusion or threats.

However, he often presents an apathetic or even amiable mood, fond of jokes (though they are often nasty) and lazing around. This, added together with his hot temper though, means he is very prone to extreme mood swings.

He’s out of the castle less often than his job description entails, often lounging about either reading, writing, or more often than not harassing his younger siblings. It does not surprise me that he is the most frequent tormenter among them, though as an odd counter, he is also highly protective. Adding to this theme, he is fond of appearing in public, though not exactly interacting with the lesser demons. He’s far more likely to spend his time in the corners surveying crowds, or on some occasions joining in with groups he finds worth his time..though he is picky and judgemental, so these are far and few between.

As for his opinions towards his siblings, Vincent seems neutral towards Roman, Remy and Enrique (well, neutral for him- he’ll as soon joke with them or offer his opinions as rip them to shreds), and despises Anvity..well, he certainly finds him an easy target for all manners of cruelty. But he looks up to Eleanor, though they often conflict- they share many traits, despite their differing dispositions. The one prince he can be said to have a truly positive opinion towards however, is Jacqueline. They are often seen plotting all manners of things together- and if she is ever killed, his mood sours to an extreme until she regenerates.

This is actually just miscellaneous reactions I had while reading that I don't want to clog the tag with. Hope it's at least a little funny.

I adore how perceptive Milly is. I just adore her in general. Actually there's something to be said about Milly as the observer in this series. Meryl is knocked out for much of the ensuing fight against Monev but Milly witnesses all of it. She's also frequently the first to look out a window or to notice things in her environment. Hm. Really interesting.

Knives' face being shadowed is so so good. It's similar to my commentary in Stampede about how the camera doesn't really focus on young Nai in the early flashbacks so you don't see his face a lot at first.

Vash's awkward smile. Meryl immediately trying to backtrack. I am experiencing secondhand embarrassment. Girl. Please.

He looks like a jojo character. Actually, I'm super intrigued by Legato. He's really interesting. I wish to study him under a microscope. (Every time someone mentions "blue hair" my brain automatically finishes it with "and pronouns" sjfhbdfh)

Ooh! About the whole "it was the first time he called me by my name" part, it actually wasn't! Vash said her name during the Monev fight but because Meryl was unconscious, she didn't hear it! I think, given how avoidant Vash is, it says a lot that he went from not referring to most people by name to singling out Meryl and Milly and telling them to run because, like it or not, they as individuals (beyond being members of humanity he swore to protect) have become personally important to him.

I have a few thoughts regarding Wolfwood watching all of that happen... but I kind of want to wait for a bit before I comment on it.

The fifth moon thing was incredibly disturbing in the way it played out... Knives' genuine sorrow at seeing that Vash has more scars. Vash rightfully calling him out for hurting him more. Knives immediately switching to blaming Vash for July and implying that he fucking shoot himself if he wants someone to pay what the fuck. Vash showing clear signs of trauma (freezing, loss of memory, panic, anger). Knives grabbing his face and restraining him while forcing his arm to transform. Everyone else trying desperately to get away. Vash crying and having no clue what is happening to his own body. Holy fuck. This is downright horrific.
