UMBRA: "Most of the time its finding herb locations, foraging human's lost items, testing my knowledge, assisting her with 'mons who come in injured or sick... but when I was young, it was a lot of questions and testing."

UMBRA: "I'm keen to start Eclipse early, since its harder to pick up as an adult, but Ma' is insisting we wait until he shows either a talent or interest in it. I think its because of her experience with me...."

UMBRA: "You see, I wasn't very interested in it... at all. I couldn't help but to ignore most of her lessons... to the point of questioning why we were doing it...."

UMBRA: "But, throughout it all, she stayed patient with me, even when i was pretty rude about it... I still remember what she said."

UMBRA: "And she was right."

Hope: Hello, great one. I'm not sure whether you need some sort of offering in order for me to speak with you. I have brought you some berries and hope that this will suffice.

*She kicks over a bag with a variety of berries in it.*

Hope: I've heard a few tales from one of my mentor figures, the guardian, of Pokémon like you but she doesn't know much about you. Do you protect or govern something like other legendary Pokémon?

Poni looks at the blaziken, dumbfounded at how she talks and acts.

Ehhh...great one? I have a name, you know... it's Poni, in case you didn't hear, and you don't need to give any offerings either. I'm no god or whatever. I'm just the self-proclaimed protector of Kitakami and its people.

The ogerpon then rubs the back of her head slightly.

While we're on the subject, what's a legendary Pokemon? I should ask Shinji about it.

"Ask me what?"

A boy with blue hair and glasses walks into the area, glancing between Poni and the Blaziken while holding a flyer.

"And who is your friend?" Oh! Shinji, you're just in time! Pokemon have been chatting with me while you were gone. I even got to meet two other ogerpons!

"Wait, there's other ogerp- eh that can wait. Right now, I want to talk to you about something." Oh? Well, what's going on? "I think it's about time you got to explore the world outside of Kitakami, and I know just the place to do it."

Shinji shows Poni the flyer.

"It's kinda like the mask festival here, and you can meet other Pokemon"

Whoa really?! But what about the Three? "I got that handled; let's just say I have my own team of three ready to spring into action immediately." Awesome! You're the best, Shinji!

"I try."

And hey, I can use the berries the nice blaziken gave me too, so they won't go to waste!

Cascade observed Hope's arrival with her own respectful curiosity, making note of the Blaziken's anatomy and her statements. She wondered if maybe Hope had been from Kanto, given that the Dragonair line ssentially made up the only dragon Pokemon in that region. But she didn't make the assumption, instead nodding at the fire-type's statement.

"Yeah, I can't disagree with you there," she trilled, stretching her arms out and shifting her serpentine coils with a yawn. "Excuse me. Anyway… yeah, I'm basically living amongst centuries of history and creation, and it's hard to feel anything short of pure admiration for what's been built here in White Forest. I'm glad I get to be part of it."

Cascade regarded the arriving Meowscarada with a warm smile, her eyes perking slightly at the mention of Loki. Ah, I know who this is, she thought, the back half of her tail craning upward, coils shifting while she continued to get comfortable.

"You know about Loki? the Dragonair asked, offering her right hand for the feline to shake. "Then that must mean you're Charade. I'm telling you, there are days that girl won't stop talking about how pretty you are and how much she looks forward to seeing you again." She let out a little chuckle. "If I didn't know better, I'd say she's crushing on you harder than a Snorlax using a Body Slam, eh?"

Cascade shook her head, her face straightening back from the playfulness of her previous statement toward Charade. "Anyway… uh… yeah, you know, it's funny that both of you ask about what brought me here. I didn't exactly mean to make White Forest my home. It was a case of 'right region, wrong place,' so to speak."

"I actually wanted to live by Dragonspiral Tower and Icirrus City. As a dragon Pokemon, I was hoping to study it and learn more about the Tao trio of Unova, as well as Kyurem's origin formes. I got directions at a forest just outside of Castelia City, telling me to go west from Nimbasa City. Funnily enough, that place called itself Redolent Forest, just like this grove is named. Anyway… I got turned around in Nimbasa and somehow ended up taking the east exit by accident, and instead of ending up in Driftveil after the bridge, I arrived here. I asked some of the locals how much further I needed to go before I reached Driftveil, and they laughed at me saying I was clear on the other side of the region from that."

"I got a little embarrassed from that, but as I kept going around the forest, I kept liking what was here. The lake water was clear and beautiful, there were trees as far as I could see, and just when I didn't think I needed any more convincing… boom, here I was, in this giant grove of flowers." She gently plucked a blue iris from one of the outer beds near the lakeside, sure to be careful with its petals. "And then I met Loki."

"She and I immediately hit it off well enough, so I figured that I would go to Dragonspiral Tower and try to remember this place once I was finished. Then I started doubting my sense of direction because, well, if I couldn't remember east from west, how was I supposed to make it back here from Dragonspiral, let alone make it to that tower in the first place? Not to mention, I was getting kind of tired and frustrated from the journey up to that point, and I asked Loki if she had a place I could stay for a night and get my bearings."

"She did me one better and noted that one of the caves by the lakeside was vacant, and said she wanted me to stay for as long as I needed. I thanked her, unpacked some of my supplies, and got comfortable in there before I knew it. Then… I don't know. It started feeling right in there. Loki checked on me the next morning and offered me some tea and breakfast. She had made it all herself, and I couldn't just say no. It was wonderful… she was one of those neighbours you dream about having but never meet."

She looked over toward Hope, with a shrug of her shoulders. "Then before you know it, I'm sitting there, talking with Loki, listening to stories about her flowers, the local dogwood tree, and without any intentions, now I'm invested in this grove of White Forest. I start helping with some of the flower beds, making friends in the lake, feeling really cosy in that cave she offered… and then weeks start passing. Stupidly, I find myself asking Loki if I can make that cave my home, and shockingly, she said yes. And I've called this place home ever since."

She looked at Charade with a smile. "So, yeah, Loki's a neighbour, a friend… and unfortunately for her, she was also interested in me romantically. I felt bad letting her down and telling her that I'm straight. I was scared she might get mad and not let me stay here anymore, but she was incredibly accepting of that, and I could almost sense some sort of relief in her face. I haven't dared ask her why she seemed glad about it. Maybe she had someone else in mind; I don't know."

"It doesn't matter; she's become quite close with me regardless. I guess in a sense, we're like sisters. I help her, she helps me, and we tease each other at times and share secrets and history. She always seemed so trusting of me… it feels like the least I can do, is to trust her with some of my own more difficult-to-share things. I really admire her; she's the living embodiment of kindness and caring. It's an absolute enigma as to why and how she's single… I'm almost sensing some self-sabotage on that front. Like there's some reason she thinks she doesn't deserve to stay happy, despite how much she does to earn the kindness she's been shown."

Cascade blushed once she realised what she'd said at that point. "…but you didn't hear it from me." She looked at Charade's eyes. "I wonder…"

You get the sense that her staring at the Meowscarada's purple eyes has given her an idea about Loki. Perhaps by combining Loki's love of the colour purple and the Dragonair's subtle statements…

Hope: Wait, sorry just back up for a second. Your brother is the Wish Bringer? Pardon my rudeness there. I thought legendary Pokémon did not have siblings? Cream, how are you related to this Pokémon? Perhaps I shouldn’t be tossing my words so lightly.

The Jirachi laughs, “That’s honestly the first time someone did that! No need to bow or anything, trust me! And just call me malachi, I’m not great, trust me…” He said. Cream sighed, “I don’t know how it is in the waking world, but here, legends and mythicals are referred to as guardians, well, legends, mythicals, and me…” Cream said, seeming a bit saddened. “Originally, there were two guardians, or if you believe in myths like miss crazy ribbons over there, three… There’s Darkrai, Cresselia, and no one knows who the third one is because they don’t exist! The third one is just some myth! That being said, the rest of us were created by either Darkrai or Cresselia, and because we came from the same people, we’re siblings,” explained Malachi, “Cream also isn’t your typical pokemon, she’s a legend too, just like me,” Malachi looked at Cream, he knew the fact she didn’t look like a legend or mythical at all was hard for her, especially because their mother didn’t accept that fact about her, but he knew being acknowledged as one was a big deal for her, helped her feel like she belonged…

Destino: Fine. FINE. I’ll play your idiotic game. It’s not happening next year though! Just you wait. I will get my revenge someday.

*Hope approaches Hibiscus at the party, the Blaziken looking at them curiously* Hope: Hey. I’ve never seen a Pokémon like you before but loving the tea theme you got going on. I’ve heard you run a shop. Had any tough customers? If so, how do you usually deal with them? Also, have you tried any of the food here? I dunno whether I trust it or not.

“Oh, thank you! We all have a tea theme though- by ‘we’ mean Polteageist- that’s what I am!” Hibiscus informs Hope.

“I’ve had a few- most are pretty well-behaved, at least, but bad ones are inevitable, especially when you’re in the food business….let’s see…”

“There were a couple times where I had to serve Pokemon that were very particular about almost everything- the tea wasn’t the right color, the boba pearls were a bit too chewy, they thought the cups looked ridiculous, ect. OH….and then, there was this one time where an intoxicated Pokemon stopped by! That was the worst…”

“Anyways, as for how I deal with them….well, I try my best to be patient and kind, but if they don’t change their behavior for the better, I can always refuse to serve them!”

“The food…admittedly does look a bit fishy,” Hibiscus agrees with the Blaziken. “It’s a good thing I brought some snacks from home for Marshmallow to munch on if they get hungry!”

I was looking for images of the Starter Pokémon final evolutions when I found something interesting...

Mainly THIS image (the original only went up to Gen 7 so I edited it to include the rest)

(sorry for the image quality drop, yikes)

And honestly? I can kinda see it. Especially because how easy it was to slot the missing Starters into those three categories.

It's not a perfect trend, like Primarina is way more feminine looking than Blaziken or Empoleon but it's veeeeerrrry interesting at how consistent it is.

I had the exact same theory back in Gen 7 except mine was labelled Cool, Bulky and Girly.

I also noticed that ALL of my favourite Starter Pokémon from each trio are in the Feminine column. I find that oddly sweet in a way, it shows that my taste in Starters hasn't changed much since little 11 year old me picked Chikorita in Heart Gold because I thought that Meganium was way cuter than Typhlosion and Feraligatr.

when Beryllium comes to, all he sees is soft green. the trees of Ilex Forest rise up around them, shading them in darkness, but it's nothing like the pitch-black of the void. this is softer, more alive. kyan immediately thinks they're dead. what else could it be? their last memory was getting ready to face the Unown King with Groudon, already succumbing to the effects of their corruption. this place seemed like heaven, so calm and serene. he didn't think there was a heaven for code like kyan. slowly, Beryllium sits up. their back is to a tree, and kyan takes a second to register a shrine just to his right.

the soft patter of footsteps on grass are enough to return their gaze in front of them, and Beryllium finally realizes that he's alive. Latias rests next to her trainer, head laying by their knee. you walk over to Beryllium, unsure if he’s stable enough to talk. luckily, kyan answers that question for you.

“…Gold? is that you?” Bery gently raises his head to look at you, eye returned back to normal. you nod in response, Unowns around you asking "ARE YOU OKAY?" kyan takes a second to answer, still taking a minute to process that you're in front of them, before weakly saying "yeah... yeah, i'm fine." your face is still full of concern, and Beryllium's gaze lowers back down to the grass again. this is the second time kyan's passed out in front of you, and this time he could've died. they wish they could apologize, but Beryllium can't find the words.

you don't know what to say either, so the both of you are there in an awkward silence. but a light flash behind you catches your attention, and you hesitantly turn away from Beryllium. it's Celebi, and luckily, there doesn't seem to be any sign of the Unown King behind them. you two have a quick conversation, but you hear the sound of a Pokeball opening behind you and Blaziken's cry. turning back to kyan and the fire type, you and Celebi see Blaziken shaking his trainer back and forth, with Latias trying to intervene. you can hear them from where you are, next to the shrine.

"BERYLLIUM, BERYLLIUM! DON'T YOU EVER DARE DO THAT AGAIN YOU SCARED ME SO BAD!!" "Blaziken, it's okay, we're fine now-" "YEAH, NOW!! BUT YOU COULD'VE GOTTEN REALLY HURT! LET ME HELP NEXT TIME!!" "uhm, guys, they're staring..." "Blaziken, please, we're okay now! we have someone to thank for that..." Beryllium turned to face you, Blaziken following suit. the Pokemon lowered their head, before pulling kyan into a tight hug. Bery simply tried his best to comfort the Pokemon back, with Latias nudging them both.

Beryllium's eye never left yours, mouthing a quiet "thank you." before returning to calming their Pokemon.
