I’m sure I’m not the first to say this but I think one area you really feel the difference between Bethesda Fallout and New Vegas is the music selection. Obviously there are a lot of individually good songs in the Bethesda games but I think when you look at the track list as a whole it just feels very… obvious? Gimmicky? It feels like they said “ok we’ll put in every 50’s song that references nuclear power or bombs, and we’ll also throw in any that mention ‘the end of the world’ or fire or explosions, even just as a metaphor or turn of phrase. Ok throw in a couple that reference violence in some way aaand done.” It’s like do you get?? That this is a post apocalyptic setting? That there were nuclear bombs?? Is that theme getting through to you??? It’s kind of hacky to me idk

Meanwhile New Vegas has its two stations with distinct country western and rat pack swing themes, and the music feels selected more for a) the mood it creates and b) what might logically have been preserved and rediscovered in the region where the game takes place rather than “hehe the song just said ‘explode’ in a game about nuclear bomb 🤣”. Again not a judgement on like the quality of The Ink Spots or any of the other artists that are used in those games I more take issue with the way the music selection as a whole reduces their lyrics to Fallout puns ya know

Basically I've been using the same crappy drawing tablet I bought as a teenager and I've been wanting to upgrade for years and years, I could never justify the expense because art doesn't make me money it's just a hobby. but it is a hobby i love. I've saved money, I want to throw down to get a goooood drawing tablet. But i'm super clueless about what tablet that would be. something like a cintiq? If you have any recommendations for brands or what you use I'd love to hear. I get so overwhelmed trying to figure out what to get. If you have any other artist friends who want to input their advice that would be cool too. Even if you don't answer this message or can't give advice, thank you so so so so much for encouraging women to do art. I've used wacom: bamboo, intuos pen small, intous medium and now my cintiq pro 24. my previous screen tablet was a huion 19 inch.

I used to have a lot of trouble with colors (still learning rn but anyway) so i didnt mind having a tablet with poor color fildelity but knew i wanted a screen tablet. I should have bought wacom cause i did end up wanting to replace it eventually, tho my huion did the job and lasted, its better to do one expensive purchase instead of two.

Personal preference: i know extremely talented artists that dont use screen or large tablets. I personally have a lot of trouble with smaller non screen tablets. Screen tablets helped me improve noticeably. if you feel like the non screen tablets are limiting you might be like me and benefit from the screen.

I also felt guilt about wanting to buy a nice tablet "what if i fail? what if this just stays a hobby?" theres nothing wrong with that. Why cant you enjoy your hobby and have tools that imrpove your experience?

my main advice: its better to buy an expensive thing once then a slightly cheaper thing that isnt exactly what you want and then have to buy a second one or third. Do the research, find the one you want, even if its more expensive. My first screen tablet was 500 dollars…and it was the cheapest one but it wasnt really what i wanted so i inevitably replaced it with what i wanted the whole time. So research and just try and be sure about what you really want. The more thoroughly you research the less likely you'll have to spend even more money if you have to buy a different thing. If you said you saved and you want it, its worth it. If you just opt for a cheaper one you'll probably end up having to replace or buy a newer one.

the funniest meltdown ive ever had was in college when i got so overstimulated that i could Not speak, including over text. one of my friends was trying to talk me through it but i was solely using emojis because they were easier than trying to come up with words so he started using primarily emojis as well just to make things feel balanced. this was not the Most effective strategy... until. he tried to ask me "you okay?" but the way he chose to do that was by sending "👉🏼👌🏼❓" and i was so shocked by suddenly being asked if i was dtf that i was like WHAT???? today for disability pride month, i’d like to discuss something not many able-bodied people know about: ambulatory wheelchair users!

first, “what is an ambulatory wheelchair user?”

it’s a term used to describe people who use wheelchairs that can stand and or walk in some capacity. the amount a person can walk can vary greatly between ambulatory wheelchair users, some may need their wheelchair 60% of the time, some may need theirs 90% of the time.

“why would someone use a wheelchair if they can walk?”

there are tons of reasons someone who can walk might use a wheelchair, such as fatigue, balance, heart problems, pain, fainting, and many, many more. it could be dangerous for them to walk.

“isn’t that being lazy?”

nope! take shoes, for example. you *could* walk without them, but it would be painful, and could give you cuts or blisters. would you consider wearing shoes to be lazy? also, many disabilities and conditions are progressive, using a wheelchair can help slow progression and damage to your body.

so next time you see a wheelchair user move their leg, remember that ambulatory wheelchair users exist!

There's something so funny, and sad, about Touya, whose thoughts and feelings about things have often been a mystery since we barely ever get his POV and who had done so well at maintaining a pretty stoic, uncaring mask around others that some fans to this day argue about whether or not he actually cared about the League (he does, it's just in his own way and he's in denial) or meant for Twice to die (he didn't), being betrayed by his own fucking heart monitor.

He was keeping up that persona so well, talking shit to Endeavor and not really responding to much, but the second his dad says he wants to continue seeing and talking to him every day, his heart beats faster.

And it happens again when Fuyumi and Rei say they want to do the same thing.

He might stay quiet about his actual feelings about everything for the most part, but he can't keep his heart monitor from going off. And he does eventually open up to Shoto and apologize.

I need 10 more full chapters of just the Todoroki's communicating with Touya, or an entire spinoff, just so they all can have some closure and bond, and Touya can defy the odds yet again and survive.

i think one of the things the pjo show has understood the best so far is specifically the isolation and insecurities that come with being neurodivergent, and how it reflects onto percy. the book touches on it a lot, but i think rick really wanted to push percy's own internal struggles more obviously to the forefront for the show.

Percy references again and again how inattentive and zoned out he is constantly, and how he blames himself for being stuck in his own world. He feels crazy and misjudged by everyone around him just for having what everyone else presumes is a very active imagination, hyperactivity, and a brain that works differently. and when people do acknowledge his differences, even attempting to spin them positively to him, like Sally and "Mr. Brunner," it only makes him feel worse, because again the only thing they can tell him is that he's "special," inherently other, something he's come to associate with being an embarrassing and shameful thing, with Nancy calling him "special" as an insult. I've seen "special" thrown at nd kids as an insult by their peers over and over again since I was little. So Percy can't help but believe it's a negative thing, no matter what the adults that do support him in his life try to tell him, because it's been internalized that he's just different in a way that's bad and inferior, and that that there's a reason he's lonely and troubled and delinquent. Even if it was a positive thing, like Sally and "Mr. Brunner" insist to him, he feels inherently isolated and confused and wrong in the mortal world for being different, and like there's nothing that can change that or make him normal.

We see Percy break down in front of Sally after being expelled about how he's terrified something's irrevocably wrong inside him now. And his immediate reaction of rage and confusion when the only thing she can tell him, once again, is that he's special. And I think that is really going to resonate with a generation of nd people who've experienced these types of scenarios.

wanted to workshop some of literal!shadow's abilities in a little diagram :)

tethering - shadow can occupy the shadow of one object/person at a time, to which he is tethered (or latched, or whatever you wanna refer to it as). if he wants to tether to a different shadow, he has to leave his current one.

bridges - if the darkness is broken up by light, that light severs the "bridge" shadow might have had between different shadows. as such, if whatever he's currently occuping has no neighbouring shadows, he cannot leave it until a bridge is established.

object manipulation - shadow can move physical objects/people he is tethered to by using his powers to manipulate the shadow itself. this only works on things that are easily moveable; for example, he cannot uproot an entire tree as it's attached to the ground. however, when at full power, he can uproot a tree if he wishes, but it taxes on his energy a great amount so it's used only as a last resort.

eyes - shadow's eyes float independently of the shadow he's tethered to, which means that no matter how the object/person moves, his eyes will not follow the curve unless he chooses to move them in some way (the best way i can describe this is kind of like how a chicken's head stays perfectly still even as you move its body around). most of the time, shadow's eyes appear as a two-dimensional, straight stare. when creating his own body, his eyes do "wrap around" him as his form is three-dimensional in that state.

i think the main character that differs transmisogyny from transphobia + misogyny, is the goal.

trans masculine individuals experience what we'll call "corrective misogyny", where they experience a derision of their chosen gender in an attempt to push them back into the class of [cis]woman this is transphobia + misogyny.

People I think confuse this with transmisogyny because it involves transphobia and misogyny, but transmisogyny is not "corrective". The point of transmisogyny is to push trans feminine individuals out of both the class of man and woman, into a gender underclass, a subaltern as some have called it. There is no premise of "rescuing" trans women. trans men are abused in attempt to bring them back into the protected underclass of women, while trans women are abused in an attempt at the opposite, the intent is explicitly to push us out of all protected classes.

Recently I watched this tiktok about writing disabled characters and one of the tips was that your character's disability needs to have a plot point/purpose in the story.

As someone who's disabled, let me explain why I don't agree.

Now obviously if you want to add that plot aspect go ahead (within reason and respectfully) but I don't think it should be required.

Because it's not accurate. In real life, there's not a plot point/purpose of me being disabled. It's simply just how I exist. My disabilities don't serve a purpose. It's just how I am.

And I think that implying that disabilities need to serve a purpose goes down that slippery slope of "your disability is only acceptable if it benefits something somehow" or "this disabled person is only valid because their disability can help others in some way, be exploited maybe"

You wouldn't say this about any other trait. Or at least perhaps you shouldn't. People who have certain traits or other aspects of them are literally just existing, not to serve a plot point.

hi welcome back to leanne rewatches deadpool & wolverine and goes insane about every single detail in this movie. in this edition: how logan's clothes reflect the trajectory of his character

1. the suit—inside

so we start off with the scene in the bar where logan appears to be wearing what we're used to seeing him wear. flannels, leather jackets. his outfit and even the setting is not at all unfamiliar for him. but, as we later find out, he was wearing the suit underneath all those layers the whole time.

during his talk with laura, he reveals that he wears the suit to remember those he'd lost, and as a reminder of what he'd done. he's had the suit on permanently for god knows how long, hidden under his clothes. at this point he bears the suit like a cross, suffering in silence under the guise of normalcy, yet sacrificing what's left of his identity by reducing himself to what the suit represents; by taking all the jabs and nasty looks people throw at him that he thinks he's too deserving of to combat.

2. the suit—outside

after wade pulls him out, he has the suit on display for quite a while. on one hand, it shows the fight that's in him now as a contrast to his passivity in his own world. on the other hand, it's also a sort of vulnerability: what that suit stands for and by extension what he himself is is now laid bare to the world. out in the open for people to question. maybe that fight that's in him now stems precisely from this vulnerability.

this vulnerability is both good and bad for him: it causes him to lash out at the questions from wade that he's not ready to answer. it also leads him to open up to laura and finally speak about what happened—who knows if he's ever said any of it out loud before. fun! even with just the suit, we're already seeing some development.

and THIS is where it gets interesting.

3. the white shirt—his mind

the first time we truly see him without the suit is when cassandra nova looks into his mind. i've been going back and forth on whether this is logan's own manifestation of himself or if it's cassandra's, and i still don't know. i think the distinction does matter, but in the end what it conveys is the same.

firstly, another layer of vulnerability again. he's already on his knees for cassandra, submissive—now in his mind he's also stripped as bare as he can be (i think we all know white shirts can sometimes leave little to the imagination). cassandra looks at him and says "you're hiding ... from all the ones you let down." how interesting is that?? if we go all the way back to the first scene, he hides his suit under normal clothes. and he hides this version of him in his mind even further underneath all of that.

secondly and as an extension of that point, white symbolises purity. cleanliness. even a promise of new beginnings. let's tackle this from the two possible perspectives.

if this is logan's manifestation of himself, it would be so intriguing that this is how he appears. maybe it means that despite it all, there's some good in him. maybe it means that deep, deep down, past all the shame and the guilt and the grief, there's still a part of his mind where he can just be.

on the other hand, the white could also symbolise a second chance—like i said, a promise of new beginnings. i made a post about this scene here, but the basic point is that cassandra is offering him something that no one else may ever be able to offer him. a chance to fully be himself, to silence the voices. the white is such a stunning visual representation of what she is saying logan could be if he stays with her. which makes it even more poignant that he doesn't.

4. the time ripper

after this scene, he's in the suit again, necessarily. but then! BUT THEN!!!!! the time ripper!!! y'all need to understand the significance of this scene in all its nuances FR! here you can look at his abs again:

but the thing is we know by now what the suit represents. all his failures, all his guilt, his inability to let go of his past. it represents him. isn't it just so fitting that it's at this point where he saves the fucking world that the suit breaks away. it breaks away from him. he's free. this not the same as him just taking it off, because with it breaking into pieces he literally cannot wear it anymore. this is not just a hugh jackman body appreciation, this is logan finally moving on. this is him realising that he is not a failure, that he is not his failures, that he has something else to live for.

5. him

and oh my god, we finally make it to the extremely satisfying ending. after all of that, we finally come full circle. he's in his normal clothes again, the wife beater and the flannel, except this time without anything underneath. he's no longer defined by that one incident, defined by his mistakes and the people he let down. he is just him.
