The language barrier trope is partly why monster romance is so fun to read. And yes I’m even counting if they technically DO speak the same language, but because they are from vastly different worlds, everything holds different meaning. Communication through action? Cute miscommunications that don’t build to the only catalyst of drama that the book is surviving on? Endearing moments of confusion or dedication to understand what the fuck a <thing> is and why does my human lover need it or want it or ?????? Yes yes yes. Cute, little efforts of love through attempts of understanding. My heart.

Enough about Lizardfolk with boobies, the biologically implausible animal people from MY Writer's-Poorly-Disguised-Fantasy World are hunky snail men. Every major body of water in my world has its shores inhabited by HOT MOLLUSKS. Their torso is shaped just like a human bodybuilder's but with a snail's skin I don't CARE that sea snails wouldn't have navels or collarbones my snail men have it because it's MY WORLD and I think it's SEXY. And their lower halves are just a giant snail's foot with a shell. ALSO sexy.

You travel to the beaches and there's just a whole BUNCH of hunky snail men all about, basking in the sun and splashing about in the shallow water. Beaches FULL OF STUDS who like to play volleyball and cuddle in the sand. Different groups of snails evolved differently depending on which body of water they're from, snails from the warm seas have a body like Arnold Schwarzenegger, snails from the cold seas have a body like Hafþór Júlíus Björnsson, snails from desert oasis have bodies like David Hasselhoff, and snails from the magic swamps have bodies like Tom Holland.

They also practice archery but as a sport and not for fighting
