The Combat Shield and Mini-adventure for Basic and Expert D&D served the same role as AD&D's DM screen, with art by Jeff Easley facing the players along with the PC experience tables for level advancement, and important tables for the DM on the opposite side (TSR, 1984). This was for the 1983 3rd version of Basic D&D and 2nd version of Expert, to which TSR added Companion in 1984, followed by Master and Immortal Rules in the following 2 years to complete the "BECMI" D&D set.

The 8-page adventure "The Treasure of the Hideous One" by David Cook includes a full page scroll of backstory in tiny italic text, which seems an unnecessarily tedious way to begin a short adventure.

i made these for the players in the Curse Of Strahd campaign i’m running, because these are their three favorite things they’ve encountered in it so far

This Is Russel- he is a Shambling-Mound taur- or Bushtaur if you will. I Homebrewed a lot about him- he was formed like most Shambling-Mounds, lightning struck a patch of land, bringing it sentience, however in the patch of land was a fresh body, giving the New Shambling Mound access to humanoid intelligence. And so the new being came to life. Obviously I named him Russel because he is a Russel in the bushes.

Recently ran the Death House to start my Curse of Strahd campaign and got to bust this guy out! One of my favs I’ve done so far!

My players were searching for a flower with the ability to heal almost any sickness. This search led them to a grotto which was guarded by a being wreathed in dead foliage. Such was the Shambling Guardian. A boss-ified Spin on the Shambling Mound with increased AC and HP. It also got a nifty bonus action to be mean as well as some lair actions that make actual use of the mounds Lightning Absorption.

It served to be quite a battle for my 5th Level Party but nonetheless they emerged victorious.

DELUSION GROTTO

If you go into the woods today, take heed to watch your step. The trees have ears, the vines have eyes,  and the fae are watching your very trek.  This grotto is home to strange creatures that do not take kindly to strangers.

So I made some new friends the other day...

This is “BUD”. He was unfortunately a part of the botched primming that my sharks with swords suffered as well... Also I thought he was an Ogre at first. Apparently he’s a giant fish man called a “MERROW” I thought his NAME was “MARROW”. I was already painting him like an Ogre when I saw the fins and double checked... So I just gave him pink fins and gills and called it a day! Fun to paint!

These are Shambling Mounds I made out of some twisted wire, some “Grassy” foam sheets, and tiny skulls from a set of skulls I had. These guys were REALLY fun to make! Maybe I used too many skulls and maybe they could have been better placed, but DANG do I think they look good!

Finally, these litle mushroomy boys! I saw them at the game shop and HAD to get them! They were too cute to pass up! They were fun to paint, fun to look at, just FUN all around!
