Oh boy the papers I could write just about the line “Dean, does it bother you how well you fit in here?”
There is so much nuance to Dean’s character in that one line

i’m so sick of writers who proudly proclaim that they don’t read and directors and actors and other filmmakers who smugly say that they rarely watch movies or any artist who acts like an audience is stupid for connecting with their work like what the fuck is wrong with you that you hold such contempt such derision for the art that you have chosen to make the art that so many people dream of the opportunity to make the art that brings meaning and connection to people’s lives it’s unbelievably disrespectful to both your audience and the art-form and if you can’t muster basic respect for either your art-form or your audience then kindly fuck off and do something else

How would mycheal react to a MC who is nonverbal/monosyllabic/not speaking much?
Oh, it'd probably be very very awkward. When you first meet him you can tell he's kinda okay to talk first but if MC was more quiet and doesn't respond much he'll probably panic a little and ramble even more than he usually does to fill the silence.
Eventually he'll adapt to it and kind of accepts you don't talk much! That's okay! As long as it seems like you're listening he's alright with filling the silence for both of you.

I think maybe the reason Jonathan gets shafted so often by filmmakers is because he doesn't fit a masculine heroic story structure. For the first ~100 pages, he's basically one of Radcliffe's Gothic heroines. And after that? Well, it's different. But he's still not your modern stoic avenger type. He's emotional and he can't keep a lid on those feelings either. He's got so much anger, but he's also got such deep sorrow and shame, and he doesn't/can't hide it. He shouts, he goes all tense and quiet, he rushes into danger, he weeps, he announces that he'd gladly sell his soul to kill Dracula, he falls to knees and buries his face in the folds of his wife's dress when he feels ashamed of his anger.
I think if you wanted to fit him into a modern movie archetype, the best fit is probably coding him like he's the protagonist of a rape revenge movie. He got abused, he got away, and for a while he was almost content focusing on his own healing... and then he found out his abuser just kept going. Hence the knife, the rage, the shame, etc. But that's not the type of storyline a male hero is supposed to have, right, and so that makes it tempting to either give the role of Dracula's captive to Renfield or let Dracula be Mina's true love or just cut Jonathan entirely.

spiderpeople that could defeat spot first try:
1. spider-ham (cartoon logic dictates that he can just pick up the holes)
2. sun-spider (disabled solidarity. would probably get spot to come to the realization that hes 100% disabled and be empathetic about it)
3. spider-punk (would explain that a majority of spots problems originate from the shitty system hes in and that capitalism is the problem, not miles)

I've been watching the adventures of tintin 1991 with my sister and were watching the blue lotus part 2 and when Chang showed up I literally sat up in my chair and pointed at the screen like he was a famous actor. He has entered my brain forever, and I have you to thank for it.
for a character that popped up for only two adventures he left quite an impact on me too. I can imagine he'd make quite an impression when staying over in Belgium and making some appearances in the paper!
my sister was studying the opium trade and its links with colonialism so we were watching the 1991 cartoon episodes for The Blue Lotus and The Crab with the Golden Claws. I remember a) cringing every time Mitsuhirato appeared b) cringing at the voice they decided to give Chang and c) my sister turning around and looking at me every time a Chinese Musical Sting™ would play (we're Chinese)

[ cw: violence mention / death mention / ]
Will never stop thinking about how Leo, all alone in an endless void and being beaten again and again and again by the only other living thing around, still finds comfort in that space. The situation he was in was completely hopeless, and in any other circumstances he would not have escaped, at least not fast enough to save him from permanent (or even fatal) damage, be it physical or mental.
And yet, despite the bleakness of his situation, despite the agony and helplessness, all he needs is one glance at a crumbled photograph, one glance to remember his family, and that’s enough of a reason for him to smile.
Maybe that’s why his powers center around manipulating space - because no matter how much space is between them, no matter how dire his own situation may be, just the thought of his family, alive and okay, is enough to give Leo hope.
