Right peeps I'm on a 48 hour tumblr lockdown - I can't cope with potential spoilers for the last episode, so the app will be gone from my phone until Friday morning- then I will return with my feelings.
Possibly also chapter two of my Cruise Ship OFMD AU fic bc that is how I cope with show-induced trauma.

Chapter one here.

Was looking at refs and since Viktor has two different leg braces I was wondering, do we think he wears them simultaneously?? The refs don't perfectly line up perspective-wise so it's hard to tell but parts of the one he wears during the Hexcore scenes look like they could maybe line up with the brace that he wears over his clothes, but also some parts really don't and look like they'd be super uncomfy. Also HOW does he take these on and off. Experts weigh in
#viktor#arcane#ig my assumption would be that he wears both simultaneously cause in the scene where he injects the shimmer#it seems implied that he just threw off his clothes and kept experimenting#so one might assume he was already wearing the smaller one underneath#tho it is a funny image to think of him just being like 'one sec i gotta go all the way home and grab my other brace to do this'#he can take off the back brace too cause hes not wearing it in the scene where he's in the hospital bed and you can see his shoulder#where the strap would be#but that one seems to make even less sense functionality wise#everything looks like its screwed together#or screwed INTO him#but only the top bolts on his spine are i think#in the close ups of his back brace model it looks like theres cushioning underneath the parts of it that cover the rest of his spine#so he can take it off. but HOW#what parts of it unscrew/detatch to pull open and off#does it not do that at all and he just has to shimmy it off his shoulder and all the way down his legs to get it off like a romper#the shape language of the designs are cool but like. tell me how it wooorrkkksss#forgive me if im just dumb and dont know at all how braces work and theres a very simple practical explanation for all this#any king who wants to infodump about mobility aids at me....the floor is yours#something to be said i suppose about the fact that zaunites have crazy prosthetics with wild augmentations that work flawlessly#and piltover's like. idk heres some fucking uncomfortable ass metal. salo gets wheelchair in non ada compliant place#they havent ever needed to adapt to accommodate disabilities etc etc#or maybe artists were just like 'heres a design' and everybody clapped and didnt give it a second thought#and then they just turned off the visibility on the mesh when they didnt need it knowing thered not be a scene where its taken off#dont even wanna THINK about what that rig would look like#like 40 different controllers#soft body and rigid hard surfaces needing to move together....#a cold chill just shot up my spine#<- guy who is only an animator and doesnt know how to rig#forgive the magic wand tool with zero cleanup. i am lazy

Once, you said Charlie sings tenor with his pub-guys-who-sing-sea-shanties. Is this like a Port Isaac's Fisherman's Friends level of thing, or is this a hobby that's widespread enough in the UK that he's on a more amateur level?
(in reference to Killie the jockey OC's horseless brother Charlie and this post.)
Charlie’s neatly-trained-but-insufferably-twee warm tenor voice is very portable, and costs nothing but his dignity to use. Once a week he sings sea shanties down the pub with his middle-aged mates from grad school, where the baritones drown him out. That’s Thursday nights, so you can avoid it.
It’s a hobby! Charlie is by nature an eternal amateur - unless you have plot-related needs to call on a bunch of auxiliary fools and weirdos in the Killieverse for, like, a talent show. The other folks are a loose collection of people from Charlie's days in grad school and probably some tagalong boaters.
There are enough people in sufficient density in the UK for such things to coalesce regularly, although in my experience it's often in a sort of private and secretive way. you hear about them from word-of-mouth or invitation.
the actual real-life informal pub sea shanty group I knew best was actually all people living on narrowboats, who would manifest for the purpose on Thursday evenings at The Cross Guns at Avoncliff if you wanted to avoid it - except the Cross Guns, like so many boatie bastions, has now been sold. Where now are the horse and the rider? Where is the horn that was blowing? Where is the helm and the hauberk, and the ---- (gunshot)
Charlie’s admittedly bizarre decision to Get More Educated was influenced by Ken, his best friend in undergrad. Ken is a good-natured guitar-playing guy who lives on a narrowboat, who was - at the time - going on to do a PhD in geology. Ken is exactly as sweet and weird as you'd expect a geologist boatie to be; and, Charlie lacking all direction, and being lost and lazy, followed him to grad school in a panic. He applied to the same programme, bunking on the boat - he's short enough that you could just sort of park him sideways across the dinette, without even turning it into a bed; he was an absolute liability in boating life, but Ken's too chill to care much - and, like, did the chores (he's terrible at chores; but Ken is a geologist boatie) and fell into the canal a lot. It is extremely on-brand of Charlie to be so lazy and confused that he did a PhD largely by accident.
and that is how Charlie got one (1) normal friend, and what he does with him.
Anyway, Charlie and Ken and their weird mates are very annoying, with their increasingly complex and silly a capella harmonies, but no pub is going to turn away that many punters on a weeknight - and some people say they like it.
and some day they might enter a contest if you want to laugh hysterically at the idea of charlie being in a sea shanty contest.

Well, now we know that there's a multiverse so all our fics can be canon. So there's a universe were Cait and Vi are happy along with Powder and Ekko, Isha, Vander, Silco, Jayce, Viktor and so on.
Everyone lives somewhere, somehow.

Something I've always found fascinating about Raymond Shields is that despite seemingly having altruistic reasons for being a defense attorney, his reasons for trying to convince Miles to be one are anything but.
It seems understandable enough on the surface. After Ray comes around and agrees to work with Miles in The Imprisoned Turnabout, he sees remnants of Gregory shining through him despite von Karma's influence. Whether or not he recognizes that Miles' decision to become a prosecutor wasn't just born from that alone—that it was in tandem with wanting to distance himself from anything that reminded him of his father to alleviate the burden on his heart—is up for debate, but regardless: he acknowledges Miles as Gregory's son through and through and wants to capitalize on his dedication for pursuing justice in a way that he knows would make his father proud. He wants to let Miles in on the life he was robbed of at 9 years old—the life he once dreamed of living, where he follows in the footsteps of his father by giving everything he has to save people, by fighting like hell for the vulnerable and the condemned.
That said, as much as Ray dresses up his proposition by making it out to be as if he's looking out for Miles' best interests (and the best interests of society, even)...his motives for trying to get Miles to switch sides are almost entirely selfish. Ray's efforts (and most of his actions in general, really) are ultimately a product of his desperate attempt to cling on to anything related to Gregory out of an inability to move on from his death. Wearing his hat and coat, leaving the name of his office unchanged...and now, requesting that his son literally change jobs just because he can't bear the weight of his own loneliness anymore. Because he can't bear to think that the damage done by DL-6 is irreversible and Miles has moved on while he has stagnated for the past 17 years. Because he has an idealized vision of what he thinks Gregory would want and fails to realize that his son's occupation wouldn't matter to him as long as it brings him happiness and fulfillment. In his mind, letting Miles go means accepting the circumstances that brought him where he is and allowing both of them to move on. And that terrifies him.
It's even more deceitful when you realize that Ray's pitch comes at a very opportune time for Miles given his circumstances at that point: that is, he's under threat of investigation for prosecutorial misconduct and at risk of being stripped of his badge. Ray might fake incompetence, but he's not stupid—and he takes full advantage of Justine's warnings to try to sway Miles when he's in a more vulnerable position in terms of his job. Which is...pretty fucked up, to put it lightly. Despite having a better idea of where he came from compared to most people, through this Ray shows a lack of understanding of who Miles truly is and a lack of respect for what he's come to value, even if his path toward obtaining those values had some bumps along the road. But he's so blinded by his grief that he doesn't even stop to consider how much he's really asking of him, or what Miles is really searching for.
Ray was moved by Gregory. He values saving people. Defending the weak is an undeniably noble endeavor. But to ask that of someone else without consideration for their best interests is decidedly less so.
For all his occupation requires a certain selflessness, Raymond Shields is far more selfish than he lets on. And I for one find that contradiction fascinating to unpack.

On a semi related note the more I am subjected to Microsoft products the more I become convinced that the reason so many people these days believe themselves to be “bad with computers” is that the programs they are forced to use in their professional life are utterly incomprehensible to ANY rational human being and they are (rightfully enough) extrapolating out that this is just how computers are. They aren't!!! In their quest to remove all the “scary” details from their poor fragile end users Microsoft have created an ecosystem that behaves completely erratically and unpredictably and is by definition unknowable. Things just happen. Then they stop happening. Nothing ever announces why or how. Just a thousand vague and useless popups that may or may not be there tomorrow. I PROMISE computers are actually extremely simple and logical beasts.

thinking about how cut off tko is from forming even a vaguely normal relationship with people
#insane 50000 page essay in tags warning.#in his first appearence he only reacts violently when rad and enid overstep his boundaries#(in defense of rad and enid and everyone else they did not know what was going on and were doing their best)#tko reacts not ideally. and because he has the ability to he wrecks everything -> gives the impression that this kid is hecking evil#dont give a nuke to a kid with anger issues..#and it leads to him getting totally isolated- which again fair. and completely justified in the pov of other people#but it just results in him getting alienated more with no way to learn how to regulate his emotions#and people only see him when he's mad as hell and wreaking havoc which. Bad impression every time.#like how do you fix this#i think tko wouldve probably been treated better had he not been stupidly op#ALSOOO. I HATE THAT LFTTE JUST. FUNCTIONALLY CEMENTED EVERYONE'S PERCEPTION OF TKO AS 'EVIL MANIAC WHO KILLED EVERYONE'#WITH NO CHANCE FOR HIM TO EVER CHANGE THAT BECAUSE. MKO#like. who is left to apologise?? and who do you forgive ???#of course when mko says anything (doubtful. i bet it was a traumatic experience for him) theyll say “oh its fine that was tko's fault”#how do you. Explain. when all they know about tko is that he's evil. would you even want to explain#i am way too invested in the side character that was functionally not meant to be more than the main character's plot development device#cries and explodes into a pile of very sad confetti#incoherent ramblings#everyone else in the ok ko universe get the most satisfying and well-written endings ever and then there's my favorite character

So we were talking about Paradise Lost in my English class, and I had to read some of it, and I’m not gonna lie, I kept thinking of the Decepticons while reading it, like I could see this fitting them
And we got to a point where we looked at the Fallen Angel painting because someone brought it up, and I wanted to talk about how I’ve seen people remake that piece with both Sentinel and Megatron, but I kept quiet
Because like, online here is one thing, but do you know how embarrassing it would be to compare Paradise Lost, one of the most significant works in English literature, to Transformers, which the average person knows as just a glorified toy commercial for kids and the Bay movies? Especially when people most likely wouldn’t have the context of Transformers One, which is what I was specifically thinking of here
Like my professor’s chill, she’d probably be fine with that, but I don’t think I could take that public shame
