Real life Marauders
There are 4 boys who are in my grade who are best friends who remind me of the marauders. Each of their personalities match up almost perfectly, and since I havenāt seen them in a while I thought Iād write down some stories about them. Hereās a little introduction to each of the un official marauders:
James Potter: the one Iām probably closest to. He is so unbelievably dumb, but also kind of smart?? Heās so funny and he doesnāt even realize it, and sometimes he just goes on and on and you just can tell that the others just arenāt listening because āoh, itās James.ā Heās in my English and Math class
Sirius Black: extremely good looking, with long dark hair. Donāt know much about him, other than the fact that heās best friends with James, Remus, and Peter. He has more common sense than James but still is immature. Flirts with me and [Marlene] in math.
Remus Lupin: The one I know the least, but have the most classes with. We have English, History, Science, and Math together, and seeing him with different members of the marauders is very funny. Heās rather quiet and super smart, but once heās sitting with his friends his filter comes off. Overall very sweet.
Peter Pettigrew: In my LA class. Super sweet and really funny, and very close to the other boys. Heās pretty clever and fun to sit with, but mostly follows Jamesā lead. Very nice.
And now here are some stories that I have:
Math:
- The first encounter I had with James and Sirius was when they sat at a table with my good friend who I recognize as Marlene. I was talking to her, when all of a sudden James asked me ādo you have a spare binder? I messed mine upā and showed me his completely destroyed binder. Conveniently I did so I gave it to him. The first thing he did was put his hand behind the plastic cover and poke holes through it with his pencil.
- Whenever we had group work time in math, Remus and I would pull up extra desks and sit with James, Sirius, and Marlene. We wouldnāt do any work.
- before a math test, James made up some stupid analogy about alligators to help him remember something??
- during the same test, the teacher walked out of the room, and the events were as followed: Marlene didnāt know what she was doing so Sirius took her test and was looking at it. James and I were trying to figure out wtf was going on and we were equally as lost, so I began to cheat off of him. When the teacher walked back in, Sirius threw Marleneās paper back at her and it was so hard not to laugh. We didnāt get caught. When we got the tests back, I got a 97%, and James got a 63%. He almost got us caught when he said to me, ābut you cheated off of me??!!ā
- James was copying my math notes because he had missed a day. Sirius, who often messed with James paper (ex: ripping holes in his paper with his pencil, scribbling on it, etc), squirted chocolate milk all over my notes. When he realized it was mine, he wouldnāt stop apologizing.
- I let James and Sirius copy my stuff just so long as they let me explain it to them so they can do it on their own.
- James and I were arguing about what colors each subject was (English is RED!!! And math is BLUE). Sirius was genuinely confused that subjects had colors??? And the argument got really heated until Remus pointed out James was colorblind so obviously he was wrong >:(
- Sirius tries to coach James with his math work, but gets frustrated super fast with him, so I have to be the one to do it.
- Since no one else was doing their work other than Remus and I, I turned to him and asked whag he got for one of them to see if I did it right, and he ignored me. He later apologized because he thought I was just trying to copy him like James and Sirius always do.
- James did something loud and disruptive in the middle of a lesson, then blamed it on Remus. Remus mouthed āill kill youā over and over to James. It took everything we had to stop Marlene and I from bursting out laughing.
- James likes to show me Bigfoot videos
- when our desks are put in rows for tests, when they all walk in, they all sprint to get any seat other than the front. James usually ends up sitting front row, which means that whoeverās behind him will tickle him.
- James got a text from a random number who was claiming to be some woman. We were joking and said it was sex trafficking, and Sirius said āwhoād want James??ā And Remus said āId sex traffic James.ā
- our teacher lets us sit together but we have to sit right in front of his desk :(
- whenever Marlene and I get in trouble for talking, we always get fake disappointed looks from Sirius and ESPECIALLY James.
English:
- I sat at a table for a while with James, Remus, and Peter. And what. A. Time.
- we were pretty rowdy all the time and never got our work done, but since I was the teachers favorite I never got in trouble.
- our teacher would get angry at our whole group and yell at us, then just apologize to me later, which drove James absolutely crazy.
- I catch James staring at me and giving me funny looks often in class, so when I ask what he wants he just waves his hands and looks away like he did nothing wrong.
- Peter is very sweet on the outside but that boy can talk some SH!T!!! Our English teacher is insane so whenever she isnāt looking he would make fun of her
- they spent an entire class period trying to touch their thumbs to their wrists (none of them could) and when I showed them I could, they all lost it. I didnāt think it was that strange??
- we have to write down what weāre greatful for at the beginning of every class, and I always ask James what to write. He gets this far off look in his eyes and always gives me something dumb like ātin foilā or āwhite crayons.ā I always take his suggestion.
-one time James wrote down āsubstitute teachersā and shared it to the class one day, and got in trouble for it. He got a detention for āinsulting a teacher.ā
- Remus and I tell James and Peter all of the answers to questions because they never read the assigned books.
- Iām pretty sure James doesnāt know how to read??
- Iām kidding (maybe?)
-Remus and I get into arguments with our English teacher because she doesnāt know anything??? Any time she says anything factually incorrect (which is a lot) we both immediately give eachother a look and raise our hands.
- The three of them were blasting some music out of their earbuds during work time. Our teacher asked what was happening, and James said āRap music. It helps with learning Shakespeare, did you know? Itās like Mozart and classical music, but thereās actually really cool studies about it you should look up.ā Thats bs.
- we had a timed writing and Remus and I took turns getting eachother extra pages. James and Peter were horrified when we were on our 4th and 5th pages and they were still outlining.
- James snaps his fingers when heās trying to remember something
- we had to perform Shakespeare scenes in groups, and I can not remember why they did this?? But Remus ended up spitting water all over Peter in front of the class.
- we were reading life of pi, and I overheard James say āYou know at the end of naked and afraid how they give the survival ratings? Pi would be an 8.4 at LEASTā and the other two completely ignored him. I thought it was funny.
- Marlene was doing Valengrams, and she came outside of our classroom and tried to wave to me. I didnāt see, but James did, and overly enthusiastically waved back, which caused the teacher to yell at him.
- overheard peter say āYou ever seen penguins of Madagascar? how did that make sense?ā And James enthusiastically agreed.
- Remus gives them snacks
Extra:
- James pushes me in the hallway just because heās taller than me >:(
- James also likes to show off. We were walking to the library when he started bragging about how he could touch the ceiling (since theyāre super high up), so I told him to prove it. He could, but he ended up breaking one of the ceiling tiles. We ran.
- While Remusā legs are the longest, Sirius and James get insecure about it and spread their legs as far as they can. Sitting across from them is a nightmare because their legs are always in ur personal space.
- where there are marauders, thereās a Snape. Marlene and I have a group chat with him in it and other people, but we also have one without him. One day, while weāre all standing there, Marlene texts the wrong group chat (with him in it) ā[SEVERUS] JUST FARTED. IT WAS WET. I HEARD IT.ā
- she felt bad for a moment, but when I told her she should probably apologize, she said āwhy? he did.ā
- I have to ask Remus for help in science sometimes and heās always eager to help.
- we had an online discussion in English, and Peter spoke once, Remus asked a few good questions, and James didnāt even show up.
- I miss them all dearly bc school is cancelled because of COVID :(

(i guess you could call this) A review on Infamous: Second Son
SInce this is my literal first post on this blog, I guess I should start by talking about the first game I really wanted back when the PS4 came out. Although i didnāt know this at the time, Infamous: Second Son is the latest sequel in the Infamous series, a series i know virtually nothing about. I havenāt actually finished playing it myself, but I currently am at least 75% done with the game.
The base plot, to put it simply, is this; In this world, there are people born with special powers, called Conduits. They could be anyone, and of course some of them start causing havoc, using their powers for crime and unintentionally demonizing the rest of the Conduits to the rest of the world. This starts the persecution of Conduits, now dubbedĀ āBio-Terroristsā, which eventually leads to this game and itās story which Iāll touch on in a few.
TheĀ Game-play
When you start the game, your main method of attack is pressing X/square until your enemy falls over, or shooting them with small smoke blasts. You have the option to shoot a smoke missile that does splash damage, but unless you put some upgrades in, you wont be using it right away. You donāt use smoke like a regular power, instead you need to absorb some from a smoking car, or a fire to use as fuel for certain abilities, like shooting missiles or just shooting regularly. The regular melee attack doesnāt expend any energy, which you can always see in a bar on the bottom left.Ā
You can press B/Circle to Smoke Dash, though when you gain other powers this will mostly be used more for travelling the game world. It doesn't expend any energy, so feel free to use it as much as you want because youāll need it to dodge the many many bullets thatāll be sent your way.
In the top right, youāll see a symbol- thatās your Karma Strike Meter. The Karma Strike is pretty much an ultimate move, that when used properly can end most fights. But, its also my first gripe of the game. See, a big part of the game is a sort of reputation meter, where you can either play the good guy and fight those oppressing the Conduits the morally correct way, or you can do the same while also abusing your power and using your allies as soldiers for your mission. In my first playthrough which I havenāt completed, I decided to be the good guy, which made getting the Karma Strike harder in my opinion. To fill the meter, you need to subdue 6 enemies in a row, or subdue enemies while also doing something good that would fill your good guy meter. For some reason i just canāt ever find enemies to subdue, or enemies that are off to the side make it difficult to subdue others. A lot of stuff can happen in a fight, and that makes it kind of annoying when i know the best way to come out on top is to make 6 enemies subdue-able before i can wipe out the rest.Ā
But, a plus for this reputation meter and the Karma Strike is that itās consistent. Iāve noticed that the further i get into the game, the more civilians cheer Delsin on when they realize heās fighting for the better. Plus, you get different Karma Strikes if you have more good karma than bad. But, again, you get more combat options if you have more bad karma than good. Which makes sense, since the good karma upgrades help Delsinās stats with healing and absorbing smoke and subduing enemies.Ā
The enemies donāt get too many introductions. They all have concrete powers given to them by the main villain of the game, and the more you play the stronger the enemies get. It starts with grunts that just have guns and make shields out of concrete, nothing too difficult though they can get tricky in high numbers. Then, in a mission where you climb to the top of the Space Needle, you fight a miniboss that then becomes a regular enemy. This enemy is especially annoying to me, because until you get the neon power that makes you move faster, they are extremely difficult to hit. Theyāre like Special Ops, with concrete chunks floating around them. They can trap you in concrete (which can be escaped by smoke dashing) and do some good damage. But iiās not the concrete that makes it difficult to hit them- Itās the fact that they just run. If you get close enough, they will run and do their own version of a smoke dash to get away from you. And until you unlock neon, that makes them the most annoying enemy so far.
The next enemy is another boss that becomes a regular enemy, just way later. These guys sit in concrete tornadoes, shooting stones at you from a distance, and luckily they arenāt too hard to beat. Just use neon and shoot them from a distance and theyāll fall pretty soon. The next and latest one for me is an extremely aggressive concrete covered enemy that came in a group of three or four(i dont really remember how many). They move way too fast to be able to fight them with the video power, which Iāll touch on in a minute. I havenāt figured out their weakness yet, but i can tell you it isnāt melee because they will steam roll you if you try to get near them.
The Three Powers
In total, you get three powers to upgrade and use, each giving you different play styles and making you use different tactics. Iāll admit, I liked that you canāt switch between them like style switching in Devil May Cry. Instead, you need to find a source of smoke, a neon sign, or a satellite dish for each power. If youāre running low on one, youāll have no choice but to switch to another and change the game plan.Ā
Smoke
The power you start the game with and my personal favorite is Smoke. The kit you get with smoke just seemed best for combat, and its easy and simple to travel around with. Itās the most abundant source to absorb in a fight because thereās usually a lot of exploding cars or ammo boxes you can absorb to fill that meter. The smoke Karma Strike is ok, but I absolutely love how it looks. Delsin sends himself flying straight into the air, and falls back down like a mortar, destroying everything in the vicinity. Plus, smoke just fits Delsinās design in my opinion. He gets the next two powers from other people, so they obviously seem out of place for him to have (even though he also got smoke from someone else too but thats not the point it still suits him very well).
Neon
Neon is the second power you get, and itās the second best in my opinion. Itās not as easy to subdue enemies with it as smoke is, but its still fun to use regardless. I think the lasers you shoot do more damage than the smoke blasts, and neon lets you run at what the game callsĀ āLight Speedā, which is just kinda faster than usual. You can run straight up walls, and you can suspend enemies in these neon bubbles to attack them mid air. The Karma Strike can hit more enemies than smoke does, and you get to put on a pretty neat light show.
Video
Video is my least favorite, so much so that I kind of avoid using this power because its just so slow and when all the enemies are constantly focused on you and shooting at you at all times, being slow is not what you need. The melee is brought down to two strong hits with a bit more range, but they take way too long to finish for it to even be worth it. The heavy attack is pretty much a couple swords that i think are better against choppers? I havenāt tested it much. You get wings but you can only dash forward and up walls for a bit before having to stop. You can shoot automatic, which is kinda useful. But there isnāt much to write home about with this power. Even the Karma strike is hard to get, since this power gives me no real ways to subdue enemies, just hope they surrender and that doesnāt happen often enough to be able to fill the meter. Itās sluggish, it doesnāt offer anything new, and itās just not for me.
One more thing about the combat; there arenāt many melee options besides mashing square and a ground pound. You canāt do any aerial combos which was disappointing to me because I thought that wouldāve been amazing for juggles and just adding more ways to fight. Unfortunately, it kind of feels like youāre very limited in your options for combat.Ā
Other than the combat, I think the game looks amazing, even for something thats 6 years old now. I like the Karma Strikes so much less because they help me in fights and more because they just look super cool and make me wanna look at them again. A lot of games donāt look the best on current gen consoles and even on PC, but this is definitely not one of them. My only gripe with the looks is the how much saturation but this can even be fixed in the settings so it barely counts.Ā
When i first watched gameplay of this game, I had never wanted to be a super hero more in a long time. It was so much fun to watch, and even though itās not as much fun to play through now, its still pretty good. I know I should touch on the story, but I havenāt finished the game, so Iāll probably do a post about it when i do. But i love the characters, and i love how they interact with each other, and I love how they interact with Delsin. I love watching those dumb brotherly arguments with Delsinās brother. This game isĀ a 7.5/10 for me.

What is the main purpose of using keyword in SEO?
Keyword Research Guide:
Step 1: Review Site and identify some basic keywords.
ex. If you sell dog products you would list out the dog products you sell. If you have any content around dog products, you'd also place the main keywords in this initial list.
You can also use SEMRush to identify what you currently rank for and export this organic KW list to assist you in this step.
Step 2: Run the list through a keyword suggestion tool. My new go-to is https://semantic.io
The way I run this is to select my keywords and to place it inside of the tool and to then filter this in a google sheet by removing repetitive words and phrases that clog the real meat of your document.
Delete the stuff that doesn't apply with a little manual review, then move on.
Step 3: Identify three SEO competitors and find their top pages/keywords and download the list. Place this list as a sheet in your KW research document.
Visit Seotoolskit for more exciting and free SEO Content.
Step 4: Review this list and filter out anything that does not apply.
Step 5: Use a tool that can identify paid competitor KWs. I personally use Spyfu because its just too good.
Repeat the same methodology as step 4 and filter out the things that don't matter to you. At this point you'll probably have some KW duplications, but thats fine.
Step 6: Grab all of the keywords you've identified and hop on over to the next tool.
Home | Term ExplorerThe Most POWERFUL Tool in Search! Bulk Query Keyword Ideas Find keywords that get overlooked. Get targeted ideas from the analyzer. Comprehensive Keyword Analysis Get core keyword information and advanced data and ideas. Easy & Powerful Domain Tool Quickly find keyword overlap by scanning competitor domains. Get Core Competitor Rankings Find your competitors top keywords easily while scanning your niche.https://termexplorer.com
This tool will give you data on just about every possible metric imaginable. Its the most powerful KW research tool I've seen.
Bulk Import your KW list.
Step 7: After importing the list to term explorer, you'll be given the option to check whatever you like and to then analyze.
In this step, make sure to filter your KW list by search volume, CPC, negative, and positive KWs. I filter with one filter at a time so I don't overload the system.
Hit Analyze.
Step 8: You should now export this list after you wait about an hour for the job to process. You should have anywhere between 1000 - 5000 keywords depending on how strict you've been in creating previous filters.
Step 9: Visually filter the list by difficulty and add some colors by conditionally formatting values between 0-3.99, 4-6.99, and 7-10.
Step 10: Delete any rows that have info you don't care about and then add a row titled "Buying Intent".
In the buying intent row you will identify if something has commercial, transactional, or just informational intent.
This step will help you create your inbound marketing funnel and will assist you in the future as you build pages that will lead your visitor.
After you complete this step you should have something that looks like the image here.
More to this exists, but this post is already long, so I'll just end at step 10 for now.
The better you are at excel formulas the easier this will be since you'll be able to create macros.
As a last piece of information - If you'd like a more detailed KW list that really pulls out more information on which KWs to target, you can create a visual filter on every data point within Term Explorer:
Search volume ā GYR
Average CPC ā RYG & add $
Number of Keyword Occurrences on Page ā RYG
Total Word Count on Page ā RYG
Number of Outbound Links ā GYR
Relevancy Score ā RYG
Page Backlinks ā RYG
Page PageRank ā RYG
Domain Age ā RYG
10. Domain PageRank ā RYG
11. Domain backlinks ā RYG
12. Trust Score ā RYG
13. Link Strength ā RYG
14. Difficulty Score ā RYG
For a more detailed description of the entire process, I've posted a guide to mastering keyword research by Nick Eubanks a few weeks ago.
This is essentially a summarized version.

hey man your comic stuff?? fucking amazing do you have any tips for a novice child artist such as myself
hmm!!! thats a good question if i have any advice at allā¦i dont really draw things in comic form that often because of how slow i amā¦its a whole project for me lol
also natch im just an amateur at all of this vs people who likeā¦pay attention to how to do things really well and/or draw comics on a regular schedule &/or get paid for it and all. so seeing this i was immediately trying to think of like, advice ive seen from random professionals on twitter & stuff & iāve tried to moreso shake it down to the stuff IāM actually doing when i draw a comic. which is a bit tricky because of my small sample size & the fact that i dont have any kind of consistent process or technique unifying all the comic-type stuff i draw
like sometimes its just a few floating sequential drawings and other times is definitely more like, really thinking of it in terms of how iām going to structure it in Comic Form & use the format to adjust my presentation of whatever idea i have
like i know ppl whose Job (officially or just by their own standards) to do a bunch of comics pages will do a script of scenes to decide what goes on what page and sort dialogue / action into panels & describe how things will look etcā¦and then do like maybe really rough layout pre-sketches, then the first rough sketch for a page, an optional more cleaned up sketch layer on top of that, and then the final lineart
i sorrrt of do a version of that, in that i am generally sitting on a Comic Idea for a while before i even start getting into the business of thinking through how itāll actually work. i have to make sure that im ācommittedā enough to the idea to wanna make more than one drawing for it, and that i think i have at least a vague notion of how i could put it into a comic. sometimes i DO end up just putting the notion into a single drawing or condensing it into like, 2-3 lil floating drawings or w/e. coz a lot of the times the idea starts out really vague, often with one āmomentā that serves as the whole inspiration & that i then try to build a scene/sequence aroundā¦.a lot of the details beyond that can be really vague in my mind, like the setting or dialogue or whoās involved or what happens or the pacing or extra events or etcā¦basically Everything is real amorphous for a while
so yea step 1 is me having this one idea and trying to decide if building a scene around it would be a better way to present it vs just having one drawing, & if i think i can actually effectively carry it outā¦.which is in reality even less fancy than it soundsā¦i just sit on an idea for a while & never get around to actually focusing on it / putting down any of the thoughts abt it that im formulating. but the upshot of me putting it off for forever is that i do end up with a kind of mental script / layout for a comic before i start itā¦..but even the extensiveness / format of these unwritten scripts varies a lot for me
like, a few times when i have made something thatās maybe longer than just one page &/or something ive been mulling over for an extra long amt of time (which tends to be stuff that is starting out w/ heavier than usual ideas) iāll like, actually write down what happens page by page, even plan out specific panels, maybe even put down a few rough sketches of certain parts. iāll have the Main Moment which is the idea that started the whole thing in the first place, but what tends to happen is iāll come up w other moments that i think could lead up to / frame / follow the main moment, and i pretty much just decide how they all fit into one cohesive piece. so what my ārough draftsā look like for these more extensively planned onesāstill really not that exhaustive, i only put things to paper when im basically done enough w my ideas to be just about ready to start actually making themācan vary in their actual formats (e.g. simple chronological bullet points of events, a few drawings, a rough sketch of how the whole thing might look), the core of it is basically just me finding a way to nail down how iām going to arrange the Moments i have and how iām going to lead one into the otherā¦ā¦.like for things with enough pages / panels, iāll tend to focus on which Moment will end each page &/or each line of panels, then have an idea of which other Moments iāll need to put on which of those pages, and kinda figure out how to pace things
again that all sounds like maybe i have a real processā¦..I Do Not
im kinda lucky in that i think i have a decent sense for composition without having to struggle over it too much. so a lot of times i can leave a lot of that up to be felt out as im actually doing the rough lineart for the first time. i also often donāt nail down panel arrangement that carefully & also make it up as i go along a bit, which is probably not something anyone should emulate. someone was saying something about how some certain page layout of like, 3-something-something panel rows looks best, i dont know. iām guessing, as with all things, nobody can say āalways do this / never do that,ā but i think staggering odd/even numbers of panels in each row is always a good guess. just makes it easier for them to read more distinctly at least, surely
sometimes i DO think about certain panels when i wanna frame a certain āshotā in a very specific way. but im just kind of doing whatever. i know vague rules like that wide shots / negative space slows down the pace, vs tightly cropped / small panels / packed w a lot of visual info tends to read as a faster pace, more chaotic. i dont quite go too wild about that sort of thing tho, because for me as a reader, a lot of times really tight shots that are like cutting between 5000 different angles rly fast all in a row, sometimes it is absolutely unreadable to me, as in i do not understand the visual info at all. it feels like the equivalent of how action movie editing keeps hanging on to the āincoherency = intensityā vs just me tuning out until the scene is over & missing details b/c i just am not getting anything out of it
thats not much of a factor for me coz i dont really ever do things with extended sequences of movement / action or whatever. iāll keep things in one place. iāll like to do smaller, āquickerā panels moreso to like, show simultaneousish details / to extend one momentā¦..occasionally i do Big Panels for a moment of higher intensity / impact too. btw putting a High Intensity moment in a super tiny panel is always really funny for the contrast of it all. i dont think ive ever done it, but it is
ummmā¦ā¦.also planning where your speech bubbles will go is good. i dont do that enough, but i should. most of the reason i dont have a more proper, organized process to anything i draw is that i just dont have the focus / patience to slow down for More Planning vs just going ahead and drawing it. jokes on me, since some quick vague planning can make it a lot easier on yourself vs just diving in and struggling w something for ages
uhhh also since im not that fantastic or mindful of panel layout? sometimes iāll make a point of just having uniform rectangle panels of the same size/shape, so i only have to really worry about the layout within the frame. this is mostly good obv for things with not that much shift in pacing throughout it or action or whateverā¦you lose the advantage of how panel sizes can affect the tone of a shot or something & probably cant get that detailed in ur drawings but that is often Fine By Me
when i do use the uniform rectangle structure though, i kinda have to focus more on each individual panel, vs like, knowing ok, these three moments are going on this page, i have a vague idea of whatāll connect them, just make up the individual panels as you go along. this does mean that i have to kinda think more about what justifies each panelā¦.how its different from the ones before & after it or how i might want it to be similar to āholdā a shot for a beat or w/e or draw focus to a small movement, whatās actually going into each panel, if i can/should condense two panels into one, etc. its still a lot of playing it by ear, i dont have solid rules of how i think i should do it each time
even when i do have a like whole plan for something im drawing iāll often make more changes as im actually making it. sometimes its deciding something would be more effective, sometimes itās just āhey this would work too & be easier,ā and thats definitely fine. nobody knows the change you made, and Easier isnāt necessarily Worse anyways. convenience is good where you can get it
ive also definitely had specific comic artists formatting/framing styles in mind when i specifically wanted to use that while drawing my own stuff. like the way iāll draw maybe a kind of horror vibe (more diagonal lines / āfracturedā panels than iād normally use, quick tiny shots of different smaller details, that kinda stuff) is gonna be different from when its a calm & quiet tone. where i dont really get too creative with the panels really & keep them pretty steady
and then that one time i did a largely nonsequential sort of panel collage b/c the marge simpson anime gave me great inspiration for how to combine & present a bunch of vague notions i had floating around all into one page. it was a good accomplishment & thats unsurprising because the inspiration i was using was That Good. thank god we can all benefit from each others good ideas and knowledge & work & all that. it does help to jump on a feeling of āwow what a cool comic i wish i could make something like that.ā just go ahead and make something like thatā¦
ummm this is all on the technical side-ish still but i dont really know what to say abt the kind of stuff that makes me wanna draw a comic in the first place vs just putting the idea into a regular single drawingā¦usually it Is kind of a more nuanced moment that i think would be better presented within some amount of context and buildup and all that. i basically exclusively draw emotionsā¦.and sometimes theyre better shown with some amount of action/dialogue, or at least a few different shots or something. i dont know if this area is helpful information or anything anyone would benefit from knowing about, or even if i have anything to say about itā¦is it all self evident maybe? idk! i do think i communicate emotions best through comicsā¦not that each one is āhere is my mood!ā or talking about me at all, but i was for example trying to communicate about an abstract emotion, i think i can draw about it better than talk or write about it or anything. i DO sometimes draw more directly from my own specific feelings/experiences for things, but mostly when i think it can be relevantā¦i cant really do anything all that directly autobiographical, even casual diary comics or whatever. thats what my text posts are for⦠but i have been interested in how to convert these huge emotional issues that iāve been v familiar with into a few pages or panels and how to present its impact in the simplest, straightforward ways i can manageā¦sometimes i think its worked for sureā¦..i feel like i gave a more Relatable sense to a certain experience by putting it in comic form than any of the times ive discussed it as a personal thing at length via text. like i said i communicate best via comics probably, despite not drawing them all that much coz im too damn slow lmao
speaking of, iāve kind of been like āwhat a wasteā abt the fact that i dont have like, a proper approach or regular strategy to thinking up comics before i draw them, but i think theres something actually okay to be taken from that lolā¦ā¦just that i know if i got too caught up in trying to plan it all out perfectly before getting into actually drawing it, iād be making it into a bigger project and slowing myself down even more & iād risk dropping it partway through or just never getting started at all. so if i have a less than perfect end result, at least i have an end result, and ive finally got that one idea out of my head in some way. and i feel like some of my comics do work out decently enoughā¦.a good handful of times ive been surprised w how well some ppl receive them
so i think it is good to just go ahead and dive in. i did that once w an idea iād been sitting on for like half a year, and i think it turned out good enough. i just knew i could easily spend months and months more turning over all the details, which might make it Better, but would also mean that yknow, iād never actually get around to making it b/c of feeling like it had to be ideal. so i simplified it a bit, used a uniform panel layout, did little drawings, and just got it drawn out in an afternoon or two. and now at least it exists lol. and ive sort of come back to the same idea in a wayā¦if i feel like it turns out i wanna elaborate on something more, i can just make another pic/comic built on the same theme, whoās gonna care or stop me
i also try to focus on what lines are/arenāt necessary to avoid things being confusing or just pointlessly clutteryā¦.this isnt a big issue b/c i dont often bother w bgs. dont emulate that either lolā¦ā¦.but im not doing any Serious art so its no big deal to me if im not āgoodā or not progressing as spectacularly as i might. i dont need my drawing abilities to be that amazing here. but bgs still serve a purpose beyond being a āskillā or whatever so im trying to include them more, aka occasionally, at all. still hardly ever. but sometimes you at least need like one halfassed establishing shot yknow. anyways
mmm this has all been kinda vague and iām trying to think if thereās anything more specific i could/should talk about!! i dont know. i dont have a good perspective on what its like to look at my art while not being me lol & what ppl might think or what stands out to them or whatever. rip
sorry this is so long, i dont really have ppl wanting to know abt my Processes or drawing thoughts or whatever so iām kinda jumping at the chance to talk about this sort of stuff after having been actually prompted to. but i dont know if iāve said anything at all!! i dont know if any of it has been helpful
ātldr; i dont really know what im doing, but go ahead and jump into actually making them as opposed to feeling like youre ready / you know the best way to make a page, because nobodys ever ready or can say This Is The Best Possible Version so just go ahead and use whatever process feels like it makes your life easier, while still actually making the damn comicā is my whole thing, i guess
i dunno, if there was some specific thing you wanted to know abt that i didnt talk about / talk about well here, feel free to ask me to specify because i totally will, which is both an invitation and a warning obviously
sorry this is so long everybodyā¦ā¦.writing an essay & by the end of it not being sure if ive given any info at all is part of my whole Thing
#long post //#jfc this is even longer than i thought#i dont know if theres anytning helpful about this at all#maybe its that āāif you think iām good its good news for you b/c you probably know what youre doing just as much if not more than i know#what iām doingāā

20 Gifts You Can Give Your Boss if They Love sports podcasts canada
Michael was an all around athlete when in middle university and excelled at baseball, basketball, and football. But his favourite Activity was baseball. It was as a result of limitless game titles of 1-on-just one basketball from his older brother Larry that Michael made his competitiveness, and his love for basketball.
In high school Michael joined the JV basketball crew at Laney highschool. For the duration of Michael's sophomore yr, the varsity staff desired extra players for an forthcoming Match, and held a tryout. Michael attempted out but was not chosen because of his absence in sizing. Michael was incredibly damage by this experience and vowed to never ever Enable it come about yet again. The following yr Michael grew six inches and began to dominate his opponents.
Michael caught the attention of Roy Williams, then the assistant of mentor Dean Smith of North Carolina and invited Michael to a camp for promising highschool players. Coach Smith preferred Jordan instantly and recruited him for North Carolina. Michael went on to get started on his freshman calendar year, and hit the gaming winning shot from the 1982 NCAA championship recreation. He phone calls which the turning point of his overall job.
youtube
Following North Carolina Michael Jordan performed 15 seasons during the NBA, 13 yrs for that Chicago Bulls from 1984 to 1998, then two seasons with the Washington Wizards from 2001 to 2003. In All those 15 decades, Michael Jordan obtained these achievements.
Rookie in the yr (1985)
6 NBA Championships (1991-1993, 1996-1998)
five regular time MVP (1988, 1991-1992, 1996, 1998)
1 NBA defensive participant on the calendar year (1988)
6 NBA finals MVP (1991-1993, 1996-1998)
thirty.one career scoring average (#one all time)
ten NBA scoring titles (1987-1993, 1996-1998)
866 consecutive online games with ten or even more factors (that is much more than ten straight seasons)
172 games with 40 or even more factors
39 video games with 50 or even more points
14 all-star online games

3 all-star sport MVP
two Slam dunk contest championships
#1 away from fifty greatest gamers in NBA historical past.
Now just visualize if he failed to take Those people a long time off to Engage in baseball... Extraordinary.
For years now folks have been comparing Kobe Bryant to The good Michael Jordan, and you will find certainly some similarities inside their online games. They the two led groups to many nationwide titles, they both equally show a assured fairly cocky Perspective, and they are both somewhat the same type of participant. For some time now there has been a semi the vast majority opinion that puts Jordan atop the throne as finest basketball player at any time. A very tricky seat to generally be in while you are competing with fellas like Larry Hen, Magic Johnson, Kareem Abdul Jabaar, and far too many other fantastic gamers to say. Oh wait, I forgot one, Kobe Bryant. In recent times There was really serious discussion that Bryant could possibly be nearly as good as, Otherwise, a lot better than Jordan, and this does not choose out merit. Along with the similarities I mentioned previously mentioned lets not neglect that they're two of the best gamers ever. Scratch that, the two best gamers at any time. That currently being mentioned I am not below to make any closing conclusions on who's the ultimo hombre, plug "Los Suns," as that would be accompanied by fully excessive criticism. Let alone I've always been one that sits around the fence about bests of sport. So in its place it appears that evidently a common comparison might be extra proper. That way it is possible to make your mind up on your own.
Lets get started in chronological buy with number 23, His Airness, Michael Jordan. When anybody hears his identify spoken there is tiny that pops into your head In addition to greatness. There's not something to dispute The reality that this dude is at the best. A goliath of your court docket who could simply not be stopped. If he needed to rating he could. And how about that nickname, His Airness? I read through a quote by A different NBA player and I understand I will butcher it, nevertheless it went a little something to your impact that "when Jordan jumped he acquired to the top of his jump and just decided 'very well I guess I will just hold out up right here for quite a while." Thats exactly what it gave the look of. Click here and you'll see what I mean.
Now lets check out a number of the ex-Bull's stats. I would like I could obtain a location that puts up his stats from his Bulls years only, but I cant, and i am not about to compile them myself. So this is going to have to include the stats from his complete job from 1984-2003, together with his final two years when he performed with the Washington Wizards, a crew that he later came to very own. He sported a field purpose proportion of 49.seven, and getting from my second quality Trainer who taught me to round that means that Jordan made each other shot, enough said. His three-level percentage is a bit within the low aspect at 32.7% but I would like to indicate that through the '94-'ninety five time, after his return from the a person calendar year crack, he shot 50% from powering the stripe. Jordan also place up a rounded down common of thirty points, six rebounds, and 5 assists. You truly can not say plenty of regarding how excellent Those people stats are. To head out about the courtroom and for all purposes have your hand in 40 factors is unreal. Jordan set the bar rather large, and in some cases to be in comparison to the legend is something in its own ideal.
Now on to Kobe, who should really feel very good just currently being the number 1 contender. To me he is owed this compliment. It in some cases gets tossed all over that Kobe is really an overrated participant. That just just isn't real. The "Black Mamba" as he is a short while ago being called can evade the peskiest of defenders, and put up unattainable shots though executing acrobats within the air that someway seem to be to find The underside with the nylon. If anybody will be as compared to Jordan, Kobe is it for my money. Also, I don't buy the concept that Kobe has a better supporting Forged, and its been tested two times in a very row now that he can without a doubt get without the Diesel. I mean how deep into their bench could the Lakers go this yr right until they acquired into iffy territory? I'm gonna say to the sixth man, Lamar Odom. Even he failed to execute constantly every evening. Kobe will be the glue which has held all of his championship teams collectively instead of another way all around. Did I mention most of his highlights look eerily similar to Jordan's? Click here to view what I necessarily mean.
Now onto a few data to the contender. Kobe places up a fairly amazing industry intention proportion at 45.five% and Whenever your questioned to score as much as he is usually that range carries much more weight. When thinking about his 3-place share you might be strike with A further superior amount. Coming in at an even 34% Kobe is up there Using the likes of Jason Kidd. Thinking about the massive 3 stats, details, rebounds, and assists, Kobe comes in at twenty five factors, five rebounds, and five assists for every activity. Go ahead make the comparison. He is a significant total lower during the points class, and just one rebound shy of Jordan's mark, truly.9 when you don't round for all you sticklers to choose from. To me the most significant stat for Kobe is his 3-position taking pictures. Previous time I checked He's 23rd all time in three balls designed, and he should be able to allow it to be into your leading 10 by the tip of profession, barring some unfortunate conditions. He's In spite of everything considerably harm prone currently.
Like I mentioned I am not in this article to crown a king, no reference to LeBron intended, but only to try and give either side with the story. For approximately 10 peak years of Jordan's career he was pretty much feared because of the opposing workforce. Kobe has finished precisely the same to his opponents for a long time now. So to me It's not at all absurd to check with the question of who is healthier. I do think its fairly clear that both of those are freaks of character In regards to playing basketball, and for some cause the gods attained down and blessed them both of those with an awesome gift. Each players should have many of the praise they get. I suppose the one strategy to see who is https://widemencantjump.com/ better is to use a type of computer programs that they had in the most up-to-date Rocky Motion picture and toss a ball concerning electronic Jordan and electronic Kobe and find out which a single will come out on major. On next believed there would still be skeptics, but hey, it would make for quite the display in true everyday living.

An Ingenious Business Plan
In celebration of reaching 200+ followers (!!), Iāve written a fic based off of this post about SMH getting involved with their local troop. This is definitely going to be a multi-part, but I thought Iād publish the first bit just to whet your appetites. Thank you guys so much for your support and enthusiasm!
Itās not often that Shitty is glad to be wearing a shirt. Or pants, for that matter. Or clothes in general. He likes the feeling of being unrestricted by societyās insistence that he cover most of his body for no reason, all day long.
This is not one of those times.
He swung open the door after the third set of rapid, insistent knocks, ready to chew out the fucking lax bros if they were pulling another one of their stupid āding-dong-ditchā games on Frat Row. What he did not expect to find was three little girls in Girl Scout uniforms, sashes displayed proudly across their chests, toting clipboards almost as big as their own torsos with them. As far as he can tell, thereās no adult accompanying them at all.
Heās torn between saying: āFirst things first, Iāll give you my entire tuition to get me some Samoasā, or, āYour organization is so amazing and superior to Boy Scouts, I hope you lilā dudes know that. Like, pro-LGBT, and supporting young girls, itās great!ā, or even, āI want to buy your cookies, but I donāt want Bitty to think I donāt appreciate his baked goods, Iām sorryā, and finally, āJesus, what are you doing on a street thats entirely frathouses filled with gross jocks and stoners, that is both a spectacular business plan and a deep-set flaw in whoever is supposed to be watching over and protecting you kids. Whereās your scout leader? I have some firm words for them.ā
Eventually he just asked, āWhat?ā
The girl in the middle, who looked a lot like those drawings of Hermione heād seen lately, all dark skin and curly hair, almost defiantly held her clipboard out to him and asked in a voice far too businesslike for a ten year old, āWould you like to buy some cookies?ā
Despite the fact that he most definitely wanted to put in an order for about 500 boxes, he was still searching for any sign of some adult accompanying the trio. Certainly, no parent in their right mind would send three little girls to sell cookies to a bunch of frat guys all by themselves. āWhereās your.. uh⦠leader?ā He peered down the street for some sign of a parent, or even a mini-van. No such luck.
The girl with the clipboard scoffed. Actually scoffed. āDanaās mom dropped us off four blocks away and drove off to get a manicure. Three hours ago. Weāve been selling cookies ever since.ā She looked at her clipboard before turning it around to face him again. āWeāve sold a lot of cookies.ā
Shitty raised his eyebrows as he took the clipboard, impressed. āNine hundred boxes? In just three hours?ā
One of the girls behind the apparent leader of the squad piped up. She had flaming red hair that would make even Dex jealous, with the freckles to match. āHalf of it was from this street,ā She explained, pointing down to the four houses that preceded the Haus on Frat Row.
āIngenious.ā Shitty murmured. āAlright, youāve got my money. On one condition.ā
āWhat?ā All three asked simultaneously, their tones wary.
āYou call an adult to go along with you. Itās not safe to walk around town all by yourselvesā Seriously, he was gonna have to find this Danaās mother and have a stern talking-to about leaving kids alone in the middle of Samwell. Even if they were Girl Scouts, and proudly sporting Karate badges.
The last girl, a tiny little thing with jet black hair in a pixie cut, who hadnāt yet contributed finally walked up to stand next to the one heād decided to think of as Hermione. āWhy do you think Danaās mom dropped us off in the first place? All of our parents are busy or working.ā She shrugged, like this wasnāt a big deal. āBesides, weāre almost done. Weāre just going to do the rest of these houses and then go wait for Danaās mom.ā
The idea of these three kids just walking down Frat Row by themselves made Shitty genuinely nervous. What if some drunk guys harassed them (fucking lax bros, most likely)? What if they got kidnapped? What if they accidentally walked in on a drug deal? None of these situations were exactly ideal. He made a split second decision. āHold on,ā He told the girls, and stuck his head back in the house. āZimms!ā He hollered at the top of his lungs, knowing full well Jack could hear him. āWeāre going on an adventure!ā
ā
In total, the girls sold about 2,000 boxes to the rest of the frats, with the help of Jack and Shitty (Who was still figuring out what they should call him). Afterward, Shitty had walked them back to the spot where the mom had dropped them off originally, and waited for her with the girls. Amy, the one whoād first spoken to him, didnāt look too surprised when the sun started to set, and Danaās mom still hadnāt arrived. āShe probably forgot about us. She had to pick up Danaās group too.ā
Shitty frowned. āSeriously? Thatās it. Iām walking you guys back to your meeting spot. Where are your parent supposed to pick you up?ā
They all answered at the same time. āSamwell Middle School.ā
Shitty sighed in relief, glad they hadnāt said Town Hall, or some place out on the edge of town, miles away from the university. āThat's not too far a walk. Why donāt one of you call your parents and tell them youāre coming while we start heading over?ā He handed his phone to Amy, who immediately started dialing.
Chloe, the girl with the pixie cut, hesitated. āWhat if Danaās mom does come for us?ā
Shitty looked down the road. It seemed completely devoid of any life, human or car, save for the four of them. āIf Danaās mom hasnāt come by now, she doesnāt deserve to be a troop leader. Letās go, before it gets too dark out.ā He reached out to help Aggie, the redhead, up and they all started started walking towards the school. Amy kept chatting with her mom, telling them how the nice hockey players had helped them sell cookies, and how one of them was walking them back to school.
āHey,ā Amy tugged on his sleeve, phone still pressed to her ear. āWhatās your name?ā
Shitty blinked in surprise. āI havenāt told you guys my name?ā
All three shook their heads.
āOh, wow, sorry you guys.ā He said, stalling, trying to think. They couldnāt call him Shitty, that would just be weird. āIām number forty-two on the hockey team, so you can call me that. Orā¦ā He paused, remembering what Mrs. Bittle had called him before they came to a happy medium with Mr. Crappy. āI guess Mr. Knight works too.ā
Amy nodded approvingly, and then said into the phone, āHis name is Mr. Knight. Heās number forty-two on the hockey team.ā
Half an hour later, they were only a quarter mile away when Chloe started to lag behind, her feet dragging as they kept walking. Shitty slowed down, leaning down to look at her. āHey, whatās the matter, scout?ā
She sniffled, and he quickly realized she was barely holding it together. āIām tired, and Iām hungry, and I miss my mom.ā She whimpered, and Shitty once again felt overcome by anger at this mystery mom who had left these three completely on their own. Without thinking, he wrapped her in a quick, tight hug.
āWeāre almost there, Chloe.ā He paused. āHow about I give you a piggyback? That way you donāt have to keep walking.ā
Chloe looked at him like she didnāt totally believe him. āYou mean it?ā
He grinned encouragingly at her. āTotally. Itāll be good for my hockey muscles.ā Not a lie- heād missed a team workout at the gym for this.
āOkay.ā She agreed quietly, and he leaned down for her to jump on, hefting up her knees once sheād wrapped her arms around his shoulders.
āIs everyone else hanging in there?ā He checked with Amy and Aggie, who both nodded, though they also looked pretty tired. He should have brought Jack along. The bro could probably carry all three girls and not break a sweat. āWeāre almost there, I promise. Your parents are going to be so proud of you for all the hard work you did today. You were real troopers.ā
Sure enough, as soon as they made it to Samwell Middle School, the girls were enveloped in hugs from their parents, who were clearly relieved they hadnāt been kidnapped by this mysterious Mr. Knight. He handed Chloe off to her mother, extending a hand for her to shake, introducing himself to the parents.
āSo, Mr. Knight,ā Amyās mother started, looking at him skeptically. āAmy tells me you helped them sell cookies today. And youāve walked them here.ā
Shitty nodded. āYes, maāam, I did. Apparently, a girl named Dana has a mother who dropped them off on Dowe Street at one, but she wasnāt walking with them while they were selling cookies. I hope Iām not being intrusive by accompanying them.ā
Amyās mother exchanged glances with the other parents. āYouāre most certainly not. I think weāll be having a word with Susan in the next few days. Did she really leave you three on your own?ā She asked the girls, shock coloring her tone. They all nodded.
āWe were okay.ā Aggie piped up, holding up her clipboard. āMr. Knight helped us sell 2,000 boxes.ā
āIām sure yo- 2,000?ā Aggieās father looked at Shitty with something bordering awe.
Shitty shrugged. āCollege students and girl scout cookies. Its a brilliant business plan.ā
āHuh.ā Aggieās father huffed thoughtfully. āWhoādāve thunk.ā He reached for Aggieās hand and started walking her toward the car. She turned and waved at Shitty. āThanks, Mr. Knight!ā
He waved back, smiling. āBye, Aggie! Donāt forget to do that math you were telling me about!ā The other parents laughed as Aggie made a groaning noise.
āYou know,ā Amyās mother started, looking at Shitty curiously, āIf you ever wanted to help chaperone their cookie sale trips, Iām sure your help would be much appreciated.ā
Shitty raised his eyebrows, surprised. āI donāt knowā¦ā He thought about how many hours heād have to set aside. He was already drowning in work for his WGSS 435 class, not to mention hockey practice, and their games. Then, he caught the pleading look on Chloeās face, and saw Amy smiling up at him hopefully. āOh, why not.ā He found himself saying. āI bet I could get the whole team in on it.ā
ā
āHey, Bits?ā Shitty stuck his head in the kitchen after Amyās mother had kindly dropped him off at the house, thankfully not asking him why he lived in what was a glorified, giant shack. āHow many recipes do you have for Girl Scout cookies? Also, how the fuck do I become a troop leader?ā

How Effective Teachers Motivate Their Students and Make Learning Fun
If you have been following my work, you know I spent 7 years a K-12 teacher and 7 years as a university professor, eventually becoming the dean of a school of education. As a teacher, I was passionate about helping students reach their academic potential and become productive citizens. As a professor and education dean, I was devoted to developing the next generation of teachers and education administrators. For the last two and a half years, I have been an education entrepreneur, launching an education company, Lynch Educational Consulting, which also manages the following web properties:Ā The Edvocate,Ā The Tech Edvocate, andĀ Edupedia.
However, I often miss being in the classroom, and when I do, I usually channel this energy in an article, resource, or project that will benefit educators everywhere. This time I decided to create a series of case studies that are meant to help pre-service teachers get a glimpse into the problems and issues that they will encounter in the field. These case studies will also give them a chance to reflect on how they can use each scenario to inform their own practice. Letās get started.
One of the hardest things for teachers to do is to make their students feel excited about learning. For some teachers, this comes naturally, and others must work at. To give you an idea of how effective teachers motivate students and make learning fun, read the case study below, entitled āMr. Braxtonās Algebra Class.ā Afterward, reflect on to the questions below, using your thoughts to shape your own practice.
What are some of the things Mr. Braxton does to boost enthusiasm in his class?
Mr. Braxtonās philosophy seems to be summed up in the following quote: āIf you make it fun, make it personal, and let them know they are included, it will always stick with them.ā Think about the subject area you intend to teach. What are three ways you could make the material fun and personal?
Though Mr. Braxtonās class is fun and full of energy, he also has strict boundaries. Name two of these.
Mr. Braxtonās Algebra Class
Factions are fun, ladies and gentlemen! Youāve got to believe me! Donāt be scared of them!ā Mr. Braxton exclaimed, as if he was asking the class to buy tickets to Disneyland. The class was reviewing for a comprehensive midterm exam.
āYou always say that Mr. B,ā JP told him, ābut I gotta tell yaāthis review is killer!ā
āStand up beside your desks. Itās time to do some math aerobics! Come on now! Parallel lines and count with natural numbers! Five, six, seven, eight . . . and one. . . .ā
The class members extended both arms out in front of them and then above their heads, modeling parallel lines with their arms. They continued to count using natural numbers as they waited for his next command.
Mr. Braxton was an energetic and enthusiastic teacher with high test scores. Seventy-five percent of the students who took the required math courses from him went on to take the optional, advanced-level math courses. This was because of Mr. Braxtonās communal learning environment and zeal for what he taught.
āX squared!ā he shouted as he threw his hands up in a U-shape. The entire class quickly mimicked his hand movements.
But Mr. Braxtonās class was not all fun and games. He had very high expectations of every student. He assigned homework every night to reinforce the dayās skills, he didnāt allow any talking or off-task work during class time, and if you showed up to class without your supplies, you would be in detentionāthere were no second chances and no exceptions!
āOh, come on, Jamal!ā he coaxed after class one day. āYou have to take Advanced Math next semester! It will just prepare you that much more for college. Please? For me?ā
āWell, okay,ā Jamal smiled. āBut only for you, Mr. B!ā
The students were willing not only to work harder for Mr. Braxton, but also to take entire classes just to please him. He showed that he cared in everything he did, from his high expectations of their work to what was going on with their grandmother to college plans, and even if they would be at the ball game Friday night. And youād better believe that he would be there, cheering on his students and encouraging them in every way he could.
āOkay, ladies and gentleman. The school talent show is coming up on Friday, and I want our class to be in it! I want to prove to the school that math can be fun! So, anyone have any suggestions?ā Mr. Braxton asked after an afterschool homework session one day. His homework sessions were optional, but almost everyone in the class stayed late to do their homework.
āMath aerobics!ā Shelia suggested. āWe could teach the entire school!ā
āGood idea, Sheila. Iām a little concerned that may be too advanced for the freshmen, though.ā
āLetās sing the quadratic equation song!ā Lance exclaimed.
āNow weāre talking!ā Mr. Braxton agreed. āWe want it to be over-the-top exciting, though, to increase our chances of winning. So, what else could we do to really make this song pop?ā
āLetās get each class to sing it in rounds!ā Rebecca suggested. āWe could sing it the first time, and then get each group to join in.ā
āI love how you think!ā
āI know! Letās write the formula on a gigantic roll of paper, and on the last round while everyone sings in unison, someone can dash out and unroll it across the entire stage for everyone to see,ā suggested Paul.
āI love it! Thatās what weāll do,ā Mr. Braxton laughed. āWeāll meet after school tomorrow to practice and design the banner.ā
On Friday, the whole school watched as Mr. Braxtonās Advanced Math class took the stage to sing, āX equals negative b plus or minus square root, B squared minus 4ac divided by 2a,ā to the tune of Row, Row, Row Your Boat. The crowd went wild as Kevin ran across the stage unraveling the banner. And they ended up taking third place in the talent show!
āHow in the world do you think we won with all the ārealā talent that performed?ā asked Kristy.
āIf you make it fun, make it personal, and let them know they are included,ā Mr. Braxton said, āit will always stick with them. You become memorable, and when it comes time to vote for the talent, the judges think of you. The same holds true for math, my dear. None of you will ever forget the quadratic equation.ā
āAnd weāll always remember you, too,ā said Jared as he reached out to give his teacher a fist bump.

Episode #12:Ā āif they were smart, they would take me out tonight.ā - David

Man, things are not looking good at all for me and my alliance, LOL, sweet lord. Jones was blindsided at tribal, and now if I don't win out these immunity challenges, I'm definitely gonna go home.
Winning 2 in a row is a feat in itself, now I'm going for 3. With a time of 7:58, I feel pretty good about it. The key is to not get ahead of yourself and take your time. People go too damn fast in these endurance challenges and manage to mess up, I'm hoping that's the case again this time, LOL.

so...! POST TRIBAL JONES WENT HOME 4-3-1 HALLELUYAH LOLLL LIKE THE GODFATHER IS GONE!!! rhys legit gave me tobi and ryan a fucking heart attack bc if he selfed it would have been 3-3-1-1 and ryan was gonna use his idol on tobi.. i have to laugh lol but ya like uhm.
its rly weird to be in this position. where i feel insanely comfortable. iām the only person left with 0 votes to my name, me and tobi are the only people to vote 100% in majority throughout this game. :))
and itās even better bc.. tobi and ryan both think iām their #1ās. and i can act the fool bc iām the ONLY canute left vs 3 mercia 2.0 and 3 sweyn 2.0 hehe...
its super weird i dont usually have good positioning but i feel as if the only way iāll ever leave is an idol play which i think me and ryan have the only ones :)

I BEAT THE CURSE OF EIGHT. But Jones got voted out. So itās a win/lose situation. She was determined on helping me get past eighth and itās upsetting. But I gotta keep moving forward and do my best. Block Party was very tedious and I donāt know whatās considered a āgood scoreā for this challenge but I completed it in 7 minutes which I think is pretty good.

so im just gunna be a psychic and hope this comes into fruitation or whatever the word is...
OK SO THIS VOTE GET OUT DAVID.. easy 4-3 lol
next vote.. bait tobi mo and ahrre into voting ryan, tell ryan to idol, we pref get ahrre out if possible..
then i PREF WIN F5 IMMUNITY AND BAIT all of them into votign tobi and i idol tobi... but if i dont win immunity im gunna prob use it on myself and be a selfish cunt lol

Just kidding it took me 11 minutes I donāt think Iām winning this

So last tribal was interesting. In theory my plan didnt change anything, however it couldve stopped a tie vote. Jones was close to Ahrre and Mo (maybe David?!). So she couldve easily chose to vote Ryan and sway them on board. My plan stopped this happening as she had no idea they were voting for Tobi.
Now I feel like I am still in a power position. I am inbetween Tobi, Ryan, Scott and Mo, Ahrre and David. I have to assess my options. I did lie to Mo, and Ahrre. So they may want to make a move against me. Where as Tobi, Scott and Ryan are the more safe trio but also more dangerous in that I wouldnt be able to beat one of them in the end.
Someone has idols too. So ANYTHING could happen. I need them to get burnt out soon. I CANT have a possibility of 4 IDOLS at final 5. Dani, Felix and Jones were all blindsided, so there may be a chance some idols laid there. However the merge one is likely still here. It was gone before jones left, and might be gone still. Meaning the idol is with someone else or wasnt re hidden.
My main goal in this round is to keep votes off me, get an idol possibly used and stay low. I didnt make a massivly obvious move, so my visiablity may still be low. I dont need a huge threat level, it makes getting to the end 100x harder.

Tobi snapped in immunity and tg he did bc David is finally vulnerable again <3 honestly it should be an easy vote considering ik our 4 wants David out bc he's so strong, and I doubt anyone else has an idol since me and Scott have 2.... so wigggg smooth sailing? i ain't gonna settle into comfortability tho bc that's never good

Ok so now I need to think about my end game. The only two people Iām not comfortable sitting next to FTC are Ryan and David. Ryan has been swerving eliminations and has gotten rid of several big threats. David is a comp beast and is also responsible for some big moves. So now you might be thinking, Mo? Whatāre you going to do? Lemme tell ya Barb. So my plan AT the moment. Is 7. David 6. Ahrre or Rhys 5. Ahrre or Rhys 4. Ryan And then final three will be Scott, Tobi and myself.

Winning immunity at this stage feels sooooooo damn good like especially for this round, this is the first time david has been open on the table after his immunity... and i feel like this is the round where advantages from the other side will be played and im glad im not vulnerable to whatever shit they throw at us... so like from a gameplay standpoint, me and scott have one of the best games currently (i think) with scott edging me slightly since he hasnt got any votes yet, but we're working together really well and like i feel like i can talk game to him really well... so the plan is that we take out david this round, we round up mo (idk about ahrre) for next vote and blindside ryan, and then from there we take out ahrre, and then me and him are in f4 with two goats. He wants to go to f3 with me while taking one goat (or so he says he does) but im gonna start making moves on scott at f4, if i can take out scott at f4 that leaves me a huge opening to take the game all the way till the end... but maybe i'm thinking too far ahead
Lowkey tho like... I kinda want ahrre out over david at this point... i feel like ahrre has built some sort of barrier in our relationship for no reason. like i've shown huuuge interest in working with him in the past, but he's just gone against me and even voted me last tribal in SPITE of me??? like??? everything he's done has landed him in the minority LMFAOOOOOOO LIKE get your head out of your ass and realize that i actually want to work with you!!! and like to get ryan out at f6 we're gonna need numbers and im not sure how comfortable i am with depending on mo to flip with us, the problem with telling ahrre is that hes soooo unpredictable like, he might just go and tell ryan everything me and scott are doing and then bam there goes everything... i understand wanting david out now since he's an immunity threat but thinking about all Ā the blindsides I need to pull off like... I wanna keep david but I don't have numbers to keep him so I'll just have to bite the bullet on this one

So!! i lost challenge. again. lol xd
missus david and his ragtag bunch of misfits who dk how to Not piss everyone off are now deciding to vote me after unsuccessfully voting everyone else. (: BC THATS GUNNA WORK OUT FOR THEM.
like bitch.. work w/ the majority. they arent even TRYING. its lowkey kinda sad but its their own faults they put themselves in this position...
the tea is even tho i have my idol im only playing it @ f6/f5 OR if david idols. like. tobi/ryan def wont vote me and rhys will just follow ryan i think NNNN
wisj me luck x

Fuck. I have a really tough decision to make. Iād like to say Iām the swing vote but I donāt actually know 100%. I can choose to vote with David, Rhys and Ahrre or Ryan, Scott and Tobi. My main concern with this vote as a whole is jury management because I donāt want someone to leave unhappy with me but thatās really tough to do. I said previously my two concerns are David and Ryan when it comes to who I donāt wanna be sitting next to at FTC. A final four with David is scary because heās a comp beast. A final four with Ryan is scary because he is super close with Scott and Tobi. This is a headache.

Well so last vote was funky dunky. So rhys sticked with the majority because he considered Jones to be a bigger threat than Tobi due to her connections.... Then the vote comes around and literally everyone lied to Jones about the vote LMAO.
So me mo and david followed thru with the tobi vote but it was to no avail, mainly because rhys not only flipped but he let him know I was gunning for him. Meanwhile the rest convicted Jones to vote me, probably by telling her some lie about how I was after her. While they all voted for her.
So there goes Jones and my no votes streak with her RIP. So after all of that I decided it was time for me to try and win imunity and while I was close Tobi just edged me the fecker.
So now we have an immune tobi and depend on rhys to flip for real this time. I hope he realizes that if he doesn't then everything is fucked but now it doesn't even depend on him. Since it's between Ryan and Scott and it's f7 the chances of an idol being played are high.
David is worried it might be him they're going after but idk anything could happen.

hmm so I've been busy today and haven't been talking with everyone. but i believe the tiffany alliance is still on the same page of voting David. i heard from Scott that the other 3 are voting him and they think Rhys is voting with them so that's interesting. i'm defintiely feeling safe, and i feel like Scott isn't going anywhere either so yayy final 6 here we go. I also talked with Scott about taking out Tobi sometime before final 3 because he's definitely a big jury threat, and he can definitely win immunities so if we get a chance to take him out we might hop on that. A final 3 of me/Scott/Rhys sounds pretty ideal and i think me or Scott would take home the win whew

david got another thing coming if he thinks he can idol me out... thats tea lol :)

So I lost the challenge yesterday...and yet I'm hearing that I'm not getting any votes tonight o.O which I don't believe for one second, cuz if they were smart, they would take me out tonight.
As I'm hearing...me, Mo, Ahrre and Rhys are gonna be voting for Scott, and Ryan, Scott and Tobi are voting Ahrre...because they think that I have the idol, LMFAOOO. WHICH IS TOO FUNNY OMG. I WISH I HAD THAT FUCKING IDOL, LOL.

Okay, so one side thinks Scott is going, One side thinks David is going. Meanwhile im in the middle lieing to half the tribe trying to stop an idol getting played to save my closest ally. Yeet.

Ok so according to rhys they're gonna be voting me since they're worried about david having an idol. But maybe that's just rhys playing the long con. Either way there's a sizeable chance I could be going home this week but hey third time's the charm amarite maybe this blindside will work once in for fucking all. Anyhow let's see how this thing goes.
David is voted out 4-3.

Itās every scientistās worst nightmare: six papers retracted in a single day, complete with a press release thatās helping the worldās science reporters disseminate and discuss the news.
Thatās exactly what happened today at the journal network JAMA, and to the Cornell researcher Brian Wansink.
Wansink is currently the director of Cornellās Food and Brand Lab. For years, he has been known as a āworld-renowned eating behavior expert.ā
Even if youāve never heard of Wansink, youāre probably familiar with his ideas. His studies, cited more than 20,000 times, are about how our environment shapes how we think about food, and what we end up consuming. Heās one of the reasons Big Food companies started offering smaller snack packaging, in 100 calorie portions. He once led the USDA committee on dietary guidelines and influenced public policy. He helped Google and the US Army implement programs to encourage healthy eating.
But over the past couple of years, the scientific house of cards that underpinned this work and influence has started crumbling. A cadre of skeptical researchers and journalists, including BuzzFeedās Stephanie Lee, have taken a close look at Wansinkās food psychology research unit, the Food and Brand Lab at Cornell University, and have shown that unsavory data manipulation ran rampant there.
Thirteen of Wansinkās studies have now been retracted, including the six pulled from JAMA today. Among them: studies suggesting people who grocery shop hungry buy more calories; that preordering lunch can help you choose healthier food; and that serving people out of large bowls encourage them to serve themselves larger portions.
In a press release, JAMA said Cornell couldnāt āprovide assurances regarding the scientific validity of the 6 studiesā because they didnāt have access to Wansinkās original data. (Weāve reached out to Cornell for comment, and they say theyāll be issuing a statement on Friday.) So, Wansinkās ideas arenāt necessarily wrong; he didnāt provide credible evidence for them.
But this story is a lot bigger than any single researcher. Itās important because it helps shine a light on persistent problems in science that have existed in labs across the world, problems that science reformers are increasingly calling for action on. Hereās what you need to know.
Vox
Wansink had a knack for producing studies that were catnip for the media, including us here at Vox. In 2009, Wansink and a co-author published a study that went viral that suggested the Joy of Cooking cookbook (and others like it) was contributing to Americaās growing waistline. It found that recipes in more recent editions of the tome ā which has sold more than 18 million copies since 1936 ā contain more calories and larger serving sizes compared to its earliest editions.
The study focused on 18 classic recipes that have appeared in Joy of Cooking since 1936 and found that their average calorie density had increased by 35 percent per serving over the years.
There was also Wansinkās famous ābottomless bowlsā study, which concluded that people will mindlessly guzzle down soup as long as their bowls are automatically refilled, and his ābad popcornā study, which demonstrated that weāll gobble up stale and unpalatable food when itās presented to us in huge quantities.
Together, they helped Wansink reinforce his larger research agenda focused on how the decisions we make about what we eat and how we live are very much shaped by environmental cues.
The critical inquiry into his work started in 2016 when Wansink published a blog post in which he inadvertently admitted to encouraging his graduate students to engage in questionable research practices. Since then, scientists have been combing through his body of work and looking for errors, inconsistencies, and general fishiness. And theyāve uncovered dozens of head-scratchers.
In more than one instance, Wansink misidentified the ages of participants in published studies, mixing up children ages 8 to 11 with toddlers. In sum, the collective efforts have led to a whole dossier of troublesome findings in Wansinkās work.
To date, 13 of his papers have been retracted. And thatās stunning given that Wansink was so highly cited and his body of work was so influential. Wansink also collected government grants, helped shape the marketing practices at food companies, and worked with the White House to influence food policy in this country.
Vox
Among the biggest problems in science that the Wansink debacle exemplifies is the āpublish or perishā mentality.
To be more competitive for grants, scientists have to publish their research in respected scientific journals. For their work to be accepted by these journals, they need positive (i.e., statistically significant) results.
That puts pressure on labs like Wansinkās to do whatās known as p-hacking. The āpā stands for p-values, a measure of statistical significance. Typically, researchers hope their results yield a p-value of less than .05 ā the cutoff beyond which they can call their results significant.
P-values are a bit complicated to explain (as we do here and here). But basically: Theyāre a tool to help researchers understand how rare their results are. If the results are super rare, scientists can feel more confident their hypothesis is correct.
Hereās the thing: P-values of .05 arenāt that hard to find if you sort the data differently or perform a huge number of analyses. In flipping coins, youād think it would be rare to get 10 heads in a row. You might start to suspect the coin is weighted to favor heads and that the result is statistically significant.
But what if you just got 10 heads in a row by chance (it can happen) and then suddenly decided you were done flipping coins? If you kept going, youād stop believing the coin is weighted.
Stopping an experiment when a p-value of .05 is achieved is an example of p-hacking. But there are other ways to do it ā like collecting data on a large number of outcomes but only reporting the outcomes that achieve statistical significance. By running many analyses, youāre bound to find something significant just by chance alone.
According to BuzzFeedās Lee, who obtained Wansinkās emails, instead of testing a hypothesis and reporting on whatever findings he came to, Wansink often encouraged his underlings to crunch data in ways that would yield more interesting or desirable results.
In effect, he was running a p-hacking operation ā or as one researcher, Stanfordās Kristin Sainani, told BuzzFeed, āp-hacking on steroids.ā
Wansinkās sloppiness and exaggerations may be greater than ordinary. But many, many researchers have admitted to engaging in some form of p-hacking in their careers.
A 2012 survey of 2,000 psychologists found p-hacking tactics were commonplace. Fifty percent admitted to only reporting studies that panned out (ignoring data that was inconclusive). Around 20 percent admitted to stopping data collection after they got the result they were hoping for. Most of the respondents thought their actions were defensible. Many thought p-hacking was a way to find the real signal in all the noise.
But they havenāt. Increasingly, even textbook studies and phenomena are coming undone as researchers retest them with more rigorous designs.
Vox
Thereās a movement of scientists who seek to rectify practices in science like the ones that Wansick is accused of. Together, they basically call for three main fixes that are gaining momentum.
Preregistration of study designs: This is a huge safeguard against p-hacking. Preregistration means that scientists publicly commit to an experimentās design before they start collecting data. This makes it much harder to cherry-pick results.
Open data sharing: Increasingly, scientists are calling on their colleagues to make all the data from their experiments available for anyone to scrutinize (there are exceptions, of course, for particularly sensitive information). This ensures that shoddy research that makes it through peer review can still be double-checked.
Registered replication reports: Scientists are hungry to see if previously reporting findings in the academic literature hold up under more intense scrutiny. There are many efforts underway to replicate (exactly or conceptually) research findings with rigor.
There are other potential fixes too: Thereās a group of scientists calling for a stricter definition of statistically significant. Others argue that arbitrary cutoffs for significance are always going to be gamed. And increasingly, scientists are turning to other forms of mathematical analysis, such as Bayesian statistics, which asks a slightly different question of data. (While p-values ask, āHow rare are these numbers?ā a Bayesian approach asks, āWhatās the probability my hypothesis is the best explanation for the results weāve found?ā)
No one solution will be the panacea. And itās important to recognize that science has to grapple with a much more fundamental problem: its culture.
In 2016, Vox sent out a survey to more than 200 scientists asking, āIf you could change one thing about how science works today, what would it be and why?ā One of the clear themes in the responses: The institutions of science need to get better at rewarding failure instead of prizing publication above all else.
One young scientist told us, āI feel torn between asking questions that I know will lead to statistical significance and asking questions that matter.ā
Brian Wansink faced the same dilemma. And itās increasingly clear which path he chose.

A new documentary reworks the memoir of Bowers, who boasts he paired Cary Grant with Rock Hudson and Katharine Hepburn with 150 brunettes and slept with so many actors he didnt have time to see their films

Scotty Bowers was a 23-year-old petrol station attendant on Hollywood Boulevard when the actor Walter Pidgeon pulled up to the pump and asked the dimpled blond to jump in his Lincoln. It would be the ride of his life. Pidgeon was gay, claims Bowers in his autobiography Full Service: My Adventures in Hollywood and the Secret Sex Lives of the Stars, and that afternoon they became lovers. Bowers himself transcended labels. Years later, he startled sexologist Dr Alfred Kinsey by checking off every sex act on his list (and took him to orgies to prove it). Guys, girls, spouses, kings, consorts and a three-way with Ava Gardner and Lana Turner. Bowers had done it all.
[Kinsey] came looking for me, says Bowers, now 95, on a hot afternoon in a Hollywood courtyard apartment. Things he thought impossible, I came up with. With his devilish blue eyes and thick white hair, it is easy to picture why he was popular. He burns with energy, as though he spent his retirement stoking gossip he vowed he wouldnt spill while his lovers were alive. J Edgar Hoover? A drag. Vivien Leigh? A hot, hot lady. Wallis Simpson? A real ballsy chick.

Bowers used to turn tricks in this same building. Today, the vintage-style pad belongs to the director Matt Tyrnauer, a former Vanity Fair journalist who recently reworked Bowers memoir into the eyebrow-raising documentary Scotty and the Secret History of Hollywood. Tyrnauer, sitting next to Bowers and gently nudging his digressions on track, confirms that he called the Kinsey Institute to check Bowers tale. They knew exactly who he was.
Everyone knew Bowers. George Cukor, Gore Vidal, Merv Griffin; Tyrone Power referred to him in letters, interviews and biographies, calling him Scotty, Sonny, or just the gas station on Hollywood Boulevard. Tennessee Williams hand-wrote a 40-page story about him, which Bowers found embarrassingly over the top.
I said: Tennessee, forget that bullshit, says Bowers. I should have kept it. Instead, for decades, people pushed him to write down his own memories. I kept putting it off and putting it off, and all of a sudden, almost everyone they wanted me to write about was dead.

Lana Turner and Ava Gardner, with whom Bowers claims to have had a threesome. Photograph: Keystone/Getty Images
In 1946, the year he met Pidgeon, Bowers was competing with millions of other returning second world war veterans for work. Canoodling with a celebrity for $20 made more sense than digging a ditch for $10. After Pidgeon spread the word about his new friend, more luxury cars began to cruise by. Soon, Bowers side-hustle had expanded to a parked trailer with two king beds, glory holes in the bathroom and a battalion of good-looking men and women to fix up with some of the biggest names in Hollywood. Bowers boasts that he paired Cary Grant with Rock Hudson back when the Pillow Talk star was still named Roy, and introduced Katharine Hepburn to 150 lovely brunettes. As for Hepburns rumored paramour Spencer Tracy, Bowers says he slept with him, too.
Hepburn and Tracys complex relationship is a fascinating example of Hollywoods hypocritical and literal moral code. Publicists decided it was better to pretend the friends were having an affair than explain the real reason why Tracy wasnt living with his wife Louise, to whom he stayed married until his death. A heterosexual affair was forgivable even romantic and it wouldnt get either actor fired. After Fatty Arbuckle was put on trial for the rape and murder of Virginia Rappe, the studios began to add a clause in their contracts forbidding actors from committing any offence that risked public hatred, contempt or ridicule. While the courts found Arbuckle innocent twice the Hollywood moguls believed just a whiff of indecency could destroy the entire industry. The swinging days of the early silent era ended overnight. Performers became studio property: they were told how to dress, how to behave, and who to date, or at least pretend to.

It was a lucrative lie. Roy Harold Scherer got his teeth capped and became Rock Hudson. When the tabloids began to nag Hudson to get married, the executives betrothed him to his lesbian secretary Phyllis. Archibald Leach was rechristened Cary Grant and wed to the great beauty Barbara Hutton, although the love of his life was screen cowboy Randolph Scott, with whom he lived for 12 years as a roommate. Bowers says in his book: The three of us got into a lot of sexual mischief together.
Living double lives took a toll. Eventually, Hudson began drinking a bottle of scotch a day and recklessly sleeping with strangers. Grant tried psychedelic therapy and spoke in quips that hinted at his unfulfillment. I played at being someone I wanted to be until I became that person, or he became me, he told his biographer. Even his most famous quote Everyone wants to be Cary Grant. Even I want to be Cary Grant sounds like a whispered confession, or maybe a misdirection. What if he just wanted to be as free as Archibald Leach?
Bowers bedded so many movie stars that he didnt have time to see their movies. A movie takes a couple hours. I was busy every minute. When his daughter, Donna, died, he went back to work that day. He shared a home with her mother, his longtime partner Betty, but slept there only a few times a year. In the documentary, he teeters towards admitting regret for spending most nights in someone elses bed. But he candidly admits his only true passion was money. He grew up hungry during the Depression era, and, as a young teenager, he turned tricks for two dozen Chicago priests who paid him in quarters. That would be abuse in everyones eyes but his. In the documentary, Tyrnauer repeatedly presses Bowers about his childhood, and does so again today.
Youre very intent on the fact that you dont perceive yourself as a victim, says Tyrnauer.
I did what I wanted to do, maintains Bowers.
That is not the conventional perspective at all, but it is his perspective and I dont judge him for that, says Tyrnauer. I think people get to define who they are and tell their story and express their beliefs.

Executives married off Rock Hudson to his lesbian secretary, Phyllis Gates. Photograph: Kobal/Rex/Shutterstock
I do think that different people are different, thats very true, replies Bowers. Im speaking for myself only.
As an adult at the petrol station, Bowers never took a cut of other peoples cash. To him, that meant he wasnt a pimp; he was a purveyor of joy. The most important thing was company, says Bowers. The LGBTQ community didnt have many safe places to connect at that time. Homosexuality was illegal in California until the 1970s. When the Los Angeles Police Department vice squad the sexual Gestapo, says Tyrnauer barged into a gay bar, patrons risked being arrested, shaken down for cash, shipped to a mental institution, and possibly lobotomised. The LAPD targeted the Hollywood glitterati because they had careers to protect and money to spare.
When the petrol station became too famous, Bowers became a for-rent party bartender, which gave celebrities an even better excuse to invite him into their homes. Even that was risky. One cop memorised Bowers car registration plate and would pull him over, scare him a bit, and then undo Bowers pants while complaining about his miserable marriage. I hope he found happiness, writes Bowers, charitably.
The vice squad is responsible for Bowers impressive memory. Midway through one aside, he recites the address of a silent movie star who has been dead for 45 years. Terrified of a raid, he rarely wrote down his friends information. It was all in my head, says Bowers. I never kept anything. If I wrote down a number, I had it in my hand until I tore it up. Even then, he would swap the first and last digits to ensure the persons identity couldnt be cracked, a trick inspired by the Navajo code talkers.
Now, Bowers has no secrets. Critics have slammed the book and the documentary for outing celebrities without consent. In the film, Tyrnauer includes a film fan arguing that legendary stars deserve more respect. Bowers counters: Whats wrong with being gay? Others have thanked him for sticking up for the real person underneath the studio gloss for revealing their truth the way they might have if they were alive today. It is impossible to know how Hudson and Grant would have chosen to live in a country that legalised gay marriage. Perhaps their lives would have been happier. Although, Bowers notes, even in 2018: Everythings not going to be out in the open. More actors are out, but now must prove they can play both gay and straight characters. Neil Patrick Harris has succeeded; Matt Bomer is trying. Some have decided that it is still easier to hide.
Asked if he is biting his tongue about anyone alive, Bowers blurts out the name of a beloved actor and her 169% gay husband. He is dead; she isnt. So, Bowers will wait. Let me tell you something: when youre dead youre dead, he insists. Later, when the conversation turns to Kevin Spacey Bowers claims to know one of his exes Tyrnauer steadily repeats that Bowers information about the alleged perpetrator is merely secondhand. The director is clearly, and correctly, aware of the complexities of talking sensitively about sex in the era of #MeToo. But after eight decades of secrecy Bowers sighs: Poor Kevin Spacey, he was right in the middle of a picture and they dumped him and everything. Thanks to #MeToo, morality clauses are making a comeback. This time, one hopes they will only be wielded for good.

Hollywood journalist Liz Smith once quipped: All this crap about coming out! Honey, I dont think I have ever really been in! Before she died last November, she affirmed that Hepburn was a lesbian.
I was pleased that she went on the record about Hepburn because I dont think shed ever done it before, says Tyrnauer. It really provides a great assist to Scottys narrative about Hepburn and Tracy, because people are in willful suspension of belief about this supposed golden couple.
Even more startling are Bowers lusty tales about Wallis Simpson and Edward VIII. Wally and Eddie, corrects Bowers, waving away their formal names. It was very easy to see how she talked him out of being king of England because she had complete control over him, says Bowers. She told him if you want to fool around and do this and that, you cant do it if youre king.

Scotty Bowers at home in LA. Photograph: Courtesy of Greenwich Entertainment
A lot of people dont believe that particular story, says Tyrnauer. But he places them at the Beverly Hills Hotel in the 50s. We found a picture of them in the Beverly Hills Hotel in that period its in the movie. Four former clients knew Edward, and the couples close friend, photographer Cecil Beaton, titled an entire chapter of his diary: Scotty.
There were many, many factors that connected them, says Tyrnauer. I cross-referenced everything I could. When Bowers described a mansions winding pathway to the pool house, or a gate in a backyard, Tyrnauer would pull up an aerial view of Google Maps and there it was, as though the nonagenarian had visited yesterday.
In Los Angeles, notes the director: You can wipe the dust off something that has been obscured and find the truth. Scottys a living example of that. Here he was in Laurel Canyon for decades minding his business. And yet hes Scotty Bowers, the infamous male madame to the stars, and either you knew it or you didnt.
He has tried to ensure Scotty and the Secret History of Hollywood tells the truth instead of peddling innuendo like tabloids, TMZ, or even acclaimed smut such as Kenneth Angers Hollywood Babylon.
Am I in that, too? asks Bowers.
Tyrnauer chuckles: Maybe between the lines.
There always will be secret life happening, beams Bowers. People should do what pleases them and the other person some people just please more than a few.
Scotty and the Secret History of Hollywood is out now in the US and awaiting a UK release date

How Mad Men Star Kit Williamson Made His Own Gay Soap Opera
The problem, says Kit Williamson, is that EastSidersthe Emmy-nominated LGBT soap opera he created in 2012almost shares a name with EastEnders, the well-known BBC soap opera currently in its 32nd year.
And so when Williamson recommends people check out his drama about handsome LGBT Los Angelenos living, loving, screwing up, and doing what people on soap operas are wont to do, they end up going down totally the wrong rabbit hole on YouTube, and finding instead a group of East Londoners doing their own variation of the same, if at a much louder volume.
youtube
My recommendation: Watch both.
Season 3 of EastSiders, released on Nov. 28 digitally and on DVD, takes the shape of a cross-America road trip, complete with stunning skies and endless horizons, beginning with Douglas/Gomorrah Rey (played by Willam Belli) having a blow-up row in full drag and 116-degree heat beside the side of a highway, as his boyfriend Quincy (Stephen Guarino) tries in vain to pacify the situation.
Bellis heels melted in the heat, and Williamson, 32, directed the action clad in cooling wet towels. The glamor of independent web TV, he says, laughing.
Williamsons character, Cal, and partner Thom (Van Hansis) are heading back west after their sojourn in New York City, and have an encounter with a drifter played by model and porn star (and Donald Trump supporter) Colby Keller. Also returning for the third season are John Halbach, Williamsons real-life husband, and Constance Wu, Williamsons longtime buddy, as straight couple Ian and Kathy. (To confuse you even more, a leading mother-son duo in EastEnders is called the same.)
youtube
I wanted to create characters that I didnt really see on television, Williamson, who played Ed Gifford on Mad Men, told The Daily Beast. I think you see a lot of cautionary tales in LGBT representation and then hyper- morally-upright representations. Youre either in a couple, living in the suburbs with 2.5 kids, or youre a drug addict in the 1980s. Its rare that LGBT characters are allowed to operate in between, like all human beings operate.
Williamson is heartened by the growing diversity of representation in the TV shows of Shonda Rhimes and on cable, and hopes his EastSiders characters have flaws, make messes, and pick up the pieces, just like straight characters on TV.
EastSiders has been mostly financed through Kickstarter funding, raising $250,000 across three seasons. The third season is also partially funded by the AIDS Healthcare Foundation and Impulse Group Global, and the show incorporates both organizations safer sex messaging.
Its incredibly moving, says Williamson of the publics generous financial support for the show, which makes him even more determined that the show does its fans justice. EastSiders aims to be as culturally mixed as a small cast and limited number of episodes can allow. Inclusive storytelling should be everybodys goal, says Williamson.
If Williamson has a dream, it is that one day television will be able to sustain having two LGBT-themed shows on at the same time; or even that there will be LGBT lead characters on TV, whose sexuality or gender identity is part of their identities, rather than defining them.
Until that rainbow shines, we have a smattering of characters and shows like Queer as Folk, The L Word, and Looking, which flicker into life, cause their controversies and debates, then go. The capriciousness of LGBT representation on our screens is down to the capriciousness of mostly straight-run broadcasters.
Hansis himself found fame as Luke Snyder on CBS daytime soap As The World Turns, as a landmark gay character whom fans clamored to be allowed to kiss his boyfriend, Noah (Jake Silbermann). (Oh, have you seen their horsing-around towel wrestle? You must see the towel wrestle.)
EastSiders refers geographically to the parts of East Los AngelesSilver Lake, Los Feliz Echo Park, DTLAwhere the characters live, a boho-y, very different sort of vibe to the muscle boys of West Hollywood, although (as their social media accounts reveal) the extremely handsome and charming Williamson and Halbach look just as hot as any WeHo guy.
Some scenes in the show are filmed at the mens home, and looks attractively ruffled and laid-back, filled with vintage furniture, mismatched cushions and twinkly lights.
Williamson had problems getting straight actors to play gay when EastSiders first began, even though there were no sex scenes in the first two seasons. Any show with gay content is immediately presumed to be exploitative, Williamson notes.
The road trip of Season 3 was filmed on the road itself, with cast and crew starting out in Woodstock, upstate New York, and ending up in Los Angeles, trundling across the vast expanse of America in a vintage camper trailer and another vehicle.
It took two weeks, with an extended stay in Idaho to scout locations and shoot scenes. It was exciting, invigorating and harrowing, says Williamson, laughing. Its no small undertaking taking two carloads of people across the country, and making sure theyre in bed at a reasonable hour.
The team ran afoul of a runaway tire that put a dent in the camper early on. They were snowed out of Yellowstone National Park. They shot on the fly, and in some places permits allowing them to film were withdrawn when it was revealed that it was a gay-themed TV show.
We started telling places where we wanted to film that it was called Go West, and just said it was about two friends driving across the country together, Williamson says.
The Black Hills of South Dakota were especially breathtaking, he says. You owe yourself ten minutes off the main drag to see the Badlands (National Park in South Dakota). I could have explored it all day if I had the chance. I am a huge lover of mountains. Even though it was terrifying driving that fucking camper trailer up and down mountains it was still breathtaking, even if I nearly killed everybody two or three times.
Williamson concedes that he is biased about California where he lives, but recommends the eastern part near Nevada for that big sky feeling, and that moment you get to the coast after weeks on the road to arrive at the Pacific Ocean and put your feet in the sand. It felt like a cool homecoming for the characters and the crew.
It was a really challenging place to grow up gay, and I also grew up very religious which didnt help matters.
Williamson himself grew up in Mississippi, where the countrys most anti-LGBT law, HB 1523, has just taken root. He is surprised as to how little attention the law has garnered nationally, compared to the outcry over similar laws in North Carolina.
I think a lot of people write off Mississippi as a lost cause, says Williamson, who emceed a Pride celebration there two years ago. I understand why, but its still sad to me as a person who grew up there. I really want people to understand there are great people living in Mississippi fighting for their own rights and fighting for their neighbors.
There was a lot of homophobia when he was growing up, says Williamson. It was a really challenging place to grow up gay, and I also grew up very religious which didnt help matters. It was definitely a challenge for my family to understand me.
His whole family are employed in the area of law, and he surprised all of them by wanting to act. They were supportive of me, even if part of them thought Hell get over this eventually and enter the family business. I tell them, One day Ill play a lawyer on TV. Thats all I can guarantee.
As a boy, Williamson was a big nerd. I read a lot of fantasy novels. I had a mullet. I was very socially awkward, and it was difficult at school to be friends with other people. It was really hard for me. I knew I was different, I didnt know why. I was savagely bullied as a kid, people were terrible to me.
Williamsons older sister modeled herself on the cult animated character, Daria. I thought the way you handled bullies was being sarcastic and funny, he says. It didnt turn out well.
He and Halbach once compared notes on childhood bullying. I was Gay Kid and he was Gay Boy. We both had really unoriginal bullies. Williamson laughs softly. Little did they know that Gay Kid and Gay Boy were going to get together.
I didnt really think growing up that it would be possible wed have gay marriage nationally, he adds. To be able to take advantage of it as a citizenhe and Halbach married last yearhas been so incredibly moving to me.
Williamson and Halbach met in March 2007. Williamson was then a bartender at NYC theater-land hangout Angus McIndoe, and the men were introduced by a mutual friend who told each of them separately, Hes single and not crazy. It was a perfectly judged match. That night, the men stayed talking until the bar closed.
Williamson had underplayed the significance of marriage equality because the possibility seemed so far off, he adds. When the Supreme Court ruled, it hit us both. Wed been denying ourselves something that we really did find meaningful. Im so glad we did it.
Williamson has worked successfully as a filmmaker and actor for years. Making Mad Men was a masterclass, he says, watching both those in front and behind the cameras. The sexy pictures on his Instagram account are in service of promoting his work and LGBT rights, he insists, adding with another laugh, and in shamelessly promoting ourselves. Instagram is a tool for good and evil, and we try to use it for good, for the best of possibilities.
Williamson chuckles that the idea was to use social media to direct people to EastSiders and the mens other work, promoting fashion and fitness influencers and LGBT destinations, but now people recognize him and Halbach from social media itself.
How EastSiders fans respond to the inclusion of Colby Keller remains to be seen. His scenes were shot before he revealed his support of Donald Trump.
I was really surprised and caught off guard when I saw that, says Williamson, who, a Hillary Clinton supporter, had been shocked when Trump triumphed in last years presidential election. I was driving to Idaho when the gay blogs erupted in fury over his (Kellers) political leanings. We did make the choice not to replace him. I havent talked to him about what happened.
When it came to keeping Keller in the season, Williamson asked himself whether he would work with Susan Sarandon, another Clinton naysayer who backed Bernie Sanders.
I think were living in really, really divided times, and I dont want to do anything to add to that divide, says Williamson. I also dont think we should be casting people out of the village. Its complicated. A lot of my family members support Trump, not for ideologically pure reasons beyond really liking the guy and what he stands for.
Keeping Kellers role in EastSiders intact presented an interesting dilemma, and I dont have the answer to it, Willliamson admits.
I ask, had he known that Keller was a Trump supporter, would Williamson have still signed him up?
I dont know. When we were planning the season we were 99 percent sure Hillary Clinton was going to be president. Faced with the reality of working with an active Trump supporter right now in 2017 my answer would be no. Its just too much of open wound for me, and friends I know who are afraid of being deported. I do think its a very serious situation.
If Hollywood is to have any leg to stand on in shaping the culture we need to own up to the abuses of power that are very real.
Williamson recently posted on social media his experience of sexual harassment when he was starting out in the entertainment industry.
At 18, he was invited to a party at an agents house. He proceeded to tell me not to come out if I wanted to be an actor, to stay in the closet, and then tried to put his hand down my pants, Williamson recalls. It was this one, two punch of harassment and homophobia that was a bitter pill to swallow, and it soured me on Los Angeles for a couple of years.
He did not suffer any graver sexual assaults, as allegedly committed by the likes of Harvey Weinstein and Kevin fucking Spacey. I think its really important we have these conversations. If Hollywood is to have any leg to stand on in shaping the culture we need to own up to the abuses of power that are very real.
What his experience also shows, again, is Hollywoods powerful gays seeking to keep the closet intact, part of a historyfor Willliamsonof different groups acting as their own morality police and oppressors.
Its very sad and true. Theres still not been a gay movie star. Look at a lot of people who have succeeded on television. Most come out after their big break. Im not here to judge: Its brave to come out at the height of your success, but in 2017 I think we need to look at the paths other people have blazed for us and be brave enough to walk down them without fear.
Next for Williamson may come more EastSiders. He is also writing a series about queer thirtysomethings set in New Orleans.
Id love to get to a place where the leads of a show can be gay where that is normal and not extraordinary, says Williamson, and where the storylines can be both unique to us and more universal in the same breath; where we are allowed to be doctors, husbands, wives, crazy, not crazy, parents, single, slutty, and settled.
The whole incredible range of human experience should allowed to be represented in LGBT characters, where we are not defined solely by our sexuality.
The open road Williamson and his crew traveled for Season 3 of EastSiders perhaps says it all.
The third season of EastSiders will be released on DVD by Wolfe Video and digital platforms on Nov. 28. More details here.

Episode #6:Ā ābecause Sweynās Baddies are COMINGā - Jones

My bitch ass glasses broke so Iām more than happy to be doing a challenge that requires my ears. Maybe wil my eyesight so poor my hearing will get better to compensate who knows. Even if we lose Iām in a Gucci spot to survive.

Tribal was a success. With the first tribal done Iām happy trust is built and I can stop being paranoid.
With that said I think Iām in a good position going forward as I have an alliance and weāre probably reaching a merge or a swap soon.

my plan of action for my tribe since we legit havent got Anything on the doc yet (me n michael have an excuse..) is to make it seem like im doing more than i am. oh im gonna work on it soon! iāll do this soon! like its all about seeming like im contributing.. when i aint LAMDKNDG
me n michael made a f2 altho it breaks my heart to say its just for the sake of my survival on this dumbass tribe.. theres no way malik flips on me and with michael as my f2 i can essentially force him to flip on danielle if he wants to stay which is like perf rn since i dont really trust her..
i miss my close allies tho lol. like ryan is my #1 n its unfortunate he isnt getting a chance to make more bonds considerig we need those bonds for his idol to make a big move.. hopefully mercia loses again and wes goes tho? it evens it up to 6 sweyn vs 6 mercia and i think itll swap again before merge and hopefully ill be with ryan/rhys/jones :)) my social game is good rn i think.. i just gotta lay low with physical and downplay strategy so im never the target. hard w/ these personalities tho. X
SOOO THIS CHALLENGE IS FUCKING HELL!!! U KNOW WHAT WOULD BE BETTER? IF OUR WHOLE TRIBE FUCKING DID SMTH!!
like im actually gunna go fucking mad.. its songs. yah its hard to identify bc theyre distorted and overlapped but theres no excuse not to get at least artists.. or even one song. malik n michael can barely do that.. LIKE YEAH I HAVENT DONE THE BEST BUT IVE GOT 2 SONGS THERE RN AND IDENTIFIED NICKI + XTINA SO! BLOOP! im gunna kill myself.. poor dani. its especially painful knowing ill try to get her out if we lose LMAOAOAOA but i mean.. (: oh well!

This challenge can litterally chomp on a dick. No. I hate it. I dont want to do it. Like BEGONE.
Honestly its so hard, and like i dont listen to pop so im struggling with it. Hopefully we win, but I feel safe if we go to tribal.

At this point I am so upset because I feel useless because all the ones I know have been picked and idek if anyone took my suggestion seriously. If this round ends my game, Iām going to be so upset!

Weāre pretty much fucked unless a miracle happens

I've been a bit nervous about my position and stuff in the game and I'm trying to catch up socially with a lot of people and stuff. I'm doing what I can on a five person tribe and hope I can work on hard on getting as far as I can in this game. I have a feeling we merge next round so that could be cool. I wanna make it far as I can this game, I'm trying to be active but UTR so hopefully it works.

WE WON FIRST PLACE AGAIN AND THIS TIME I WASNT A FUCKUP WOOOOOOOOOOOOP WOOP Iāve been talking to David more and I helped out a lot with this challenge so Iām hoping he wonāt want me out next time we go to tribal.

THREE IN A ROW, BABY. Feels good to not have gone to tribal since Jose's elimination. Also an added bonus that I basically carried our tribe to win today, not a big deal, LOL.
Also, with the reward, I've now got a vote steal advantage. This is HUGE for me. I have a group of people I wanna work with in this game and if this group is down in numbers at any point, this vote steal can come in handy.

that challenge was a damn mess but i'm just glad we made it out alive. sad Canute lost though ugh i'm sending all of my positive energy to Scott so he can make it through.... hope we merge next round that would be cute; i'm ready for more action in this game

im gunna kill my self . :) WE LOST. AGAIN. :) NOT MY FAULT. AGAIN.
n now i gotta deal with fucken awkward 2-2 tribal lines when i have a f2 with michael and a love for malik.. but bc dani is good at challenges her ass wont go and thats so annoyin but u can bet ur ass ima try somethin if i have to bc i dont trust malik to keep me safe vs her whereas michael will.. if i have to flip on malik i will
why me tho like im a good person. i dont deserve this. why couldnt i be on a competent tribe. LMAOAOAOA.

THANK GOD WE WON IMMUNITY if we lost I probably wouldāve spontaneously combust Bc I love??? My current tribe??? I love Madison too and It sucked we voted her out Bc I actually adore her but she wasnāt doing a lot. I just love this tribe and if we had to vote for each other again Iāll lose my marbles. Maybe we can work more together going into merge if we get there? I hope so, becauseĀ Sweynās Baddies are COMING

Well, we lost once again and Iām upset about it. The challenge was super hard for us and we struggled. It seemed like everyone wasnāt really putting in all they could as they just said āI forgotā I was like oh!! cool!! This tribal, Iām not crazy worried right now. I trust Scott a lot at this point because he doesnt have a reason to lie to me by telling me that Iāve been holding up the tribe because... I have been. I think the move this week is to vote out Malik. Weāll see whats going on but I really think we might be doing that this week. Hopefully thereās a merge soon because I need to fucking be by myself!!!

My ass is for sure on the line tonight. I know that Ā Malik is targetting me for being weak and all that so rn Iām just trying to get Scott 100% on board with voting me and Malik 100% certain that he is safe with me just in case thereās an idol and maybe if Iām too in my nerves and scared I have no qualms with throwing a vote on dani incade of a tie

youtube

You know what they say, another week safe,Ā
That one didn't seem so easy, Ā partially cause I sucked at it and mainly because I sucked major balls at it. But hey Mo and David saved our asses so yeeeeeeeeeeee boi. And not only that we also got reward but not really cause the only thing I got was a jpg image, and so did Felix David and Mo according to them which means either one of them is lying or Wes has it. Either way I guess it's not the end of the world.
So now Canute is going to tribal I wonder how that is gonna play out, a part of me wants Dani and Michael to be safe but another one wants rocks but at the same time another one would be jealous cause I wouldn't be a part of it and I could use some rocks in my life. Either way that's it for now folks now if you excuse me Felix wants to kidnap me and introduce me to the spooky facebook wikia comunity, spooky shit indeed.

So WOOOOOOOO this is the first tribal of the season that i'm not attending which is amazingggg and feels so good to finally have a break!! Plus like I honestly LOVE my tribe rn bc everyone is so iconic and fun and we even made a charlie's angels thing bc its so iconic... ugh love them BUT if it came down to tribal I think I would be okay still since i've really worked on rhys and we have a 3 dude gay guardians alliance of me, rhys, and ryan even tho im not even gay but they dont need to know that... my boy scott is in tribal rn but i hope he comes out okay!!! if he doesn't well oops idc bye bitch but if he does then yay!!

Tonight I am absolutely terrified I think the votes are gonna be on Malik but you just never know so my best plan is just to hope for the best and campaign to stay Iām not just gonna sit back and get eliminated especially this close to a merge situation where I know Iāll be in a good position to make it far.

im legit gunna die im so nerv and i shouldnt be. LIKE. I TRUST THAT MICHAEL HAS MY BACK. AND MALIK ISNT VOTING ME. SO IT SHOULD BE IMPOSSIBLE FOR ME TO GO. BUT I DONT THINK THAT FOR SOME REASON. all i can think of in the back of my mind is what if michael and dani flip on me and its 2-1-1.. but theres nothing i can literally do bc if i vote michael and stay our relationship is gone lol
ughhhh i should just be positive but its so hard bc even if malik goes.. i feel awful LMAAOAOOA but like. uhm. yes ): i feel awful

Scott as much as I like the guy I can for sure see he lets his emotions dictate how he plays and while thatās not necessarily bad itās difficu when youāre trying to blindside someone and he could just run and tell Malik so the nerves are here and out to play hunny

My thing is I think itās is going to go to rocks. Which is why we were worried about that when linus left but itās real. Dani we donāt wanna vote each other, hell everyone says they donāt want to vote me which is always weird for me to hear but if thatās true good if theyāre all voted me then nasty.. but I donāt want to vote Dani and I definitely donāt want to vote Scott..so that kinda leads to Michael which I donāt want to vote either but I have reasons: the main reason is the past couple of challenges heās done the worst in, and if we need to survive incase thereās no swap or merge then we need all the strong members here.
I feel a bigger bond with Dani and Scott vs Michael who I feel is cool but I donāt feel weāre clicking on a better level. And itās not even a tribe thing itās literallt what I feel could save us from tribal, and how donāt i know if Dani and Michael wonāt vote me out right after Scott leaves? So basically whatās happening is itās likely going to be a 2-2 on Michael and Scott, and Iām not changing my vote. So Iāll likely go to rocks and lose but thatās ok. I did my best and it could be a stupid move but I donāt wanna risk Dani and Michael voting me out if we lost again, because Iād hope Dani wouldnāt but you never know. So rocks here we come!
Malik is voted out 3-1.
