#how does your algorithm work Amazon

@reblog-house Yes, there is. But like everything it is a little hard to find it. Go to the prime page and look for "your account", then go to "Account and Settings"
Tumblr media
When you get there, look for "Watch History" in the top row. You can see what Amazon considers you have watched. My problem is that not all the episodes I have watched are there for some reason. Amazon thinks that I only watched the trailer on the 28th and that I didn't watch anything until the 2nd which is not true. I honestly don't know what to do about it but here it is

Hi Neil!
I see the numbers slipping for Good Omens recently and I fear that people are forgetting that the time to rewatch in order to have s3 is still ongoing I believe.
do you think potentially reminding fans to watch/ask others to watch again would be worthwhile?
Honestly I'd rather people persuaded their friends and families and interested acquaintances to watch the show, than that they watched it over and over. It means more to Amazon and thus to the show if new people come and watch Season 1 and then watch Season 2 than it does people rewatching it.

I love how transparent you are about what its like to be a self published author in this day and age, and i was just wondering if there was a difference on your side between amazon ebook/paperback and audible - and also if Scribd is any better, because i use it as an alternative to amazon whenever possible (and whenever the library doesnt own a copy of whatever im looking for) is it functionally all the same? What is best for you?
Thank you!
I actually did a huge long post a while back when I got the audiobooks produced and uploaded to various platforms. I included Scribd in the breakdown after people falsely claim that Scrib is better for authors than Amazon/Libraries.
A lot of people were not happy when I burst that particular bubble by showing that Scribd paid me 97 cents out of the 19.99 price tag. Which is less than what Audible paid me.
Now, obviously, Scribd is different because it's a subscription service, and you’re paying for access to multiple things with that subscription. But saying it is better than libraries is just false because I also showed the numbers for that, and my income from libraries was several times higher than both Scribd and Amazon combined (for audio), which is why authors are always begging people to request their work in libraries.
Libraries pay us better and are usually free. Not always. I know it depends heavily on the country, but for most of my English-speaking audience, that is the case.
Now, this is not to say people shouldn’t use services like Scribd. If Scribd is what you can afford and it gives you access to things your library can’t fantastic. Please continue to access our work through that legal option. I would much rather earn 97 cents than zero.
But uh, yeah, Amazon pays me more than Scrib for digital stuff and I really don’t like when people who aren’t on the author side spread misinformation and frame it as some more “gotcha.”
The sad truth is Most retailers pay us the same or within the same royalty range. The difference I earn between Kobo vs Kindle is literal pennies with Amazon coming out on top. I make my work available on multiple platforms to give people options, but unless you’re buying directly from my personal storefront, it's all roughly the same.
I do actually earn more from Amazon paperbacks than I do any other retailers (for self-pub, paperbacks are a flat rate regardless of how much a retailer is charging), but the difference is about ten cents, so I always tell people to buy from wherever is best for them.
I like bookshop.org because they give some of the profit on their end to indie bookstores. Same with libro.fm for audio.
Audiobooks are just a whole fucking nightmare. Audible sets your price point for you and takes 80% of your royalties. And because Audible does that, I have to then use that price tag on all other platforms or risk being fucked by the algorithm gods. Other audio retailers take about 60-70% in royalties, most of them veering toward 70%.
As we say in radical acceptance therapy, it is what it is—fucking end-stage monopoly driven capitalism.
Now, speaking personally, when it comes to digital media, I earn the most royalties from my Payhip store where I keep 90% of my income.
That's the best place for me.
It's also why it's worth looking up an author you like to see if they have their own storefront. It doesn't help our sales rankings or put us on any bestseller lists, but frankly after launch week, who cares. I’ll take being able to feed me and my dog.
I hope that helps!

If you’ve rented an apartment in the US in the past several years, you may have had the sense that the game was rigged: Prices creep up not only at your building but at others throughout the city, seemingly in lockstep. A new civil lawsuit brought by the US Department of Justice today alleges that in many cases it’s not just in your head—and that a single company’s algorithm is to blame.
That company is RealPage, a Texas-based firm that provides commercial revenue management software for landlords. In other words, it helps set the prices of apartments. But it does so, the DOJ alleges in its lawsuit, by effectively helping its clients cheat; landlords feed rental rate and lease terms into the system, and the RealPage algorithm in turn spits out a suggested price that enables coordination and hinders competition.
“By feeding sensitive data into a sophisticated algorithm powered by artificial intelligence, RealPage has found a modern way to violate a century-old law through systematic coordination of rental housing prices,” deputy attorney general Lisa Monaco said in a statement.
RealPage’s reach is broad. It controls 80 percent of the market for software of its kind, which in turn is used to set prices of around 3 million units across the country, according to the DOJ. It already faces multiple lawsuits, including one from the state of Arizona and another in Washington, DC, where RealPage software is allegedly used to price more than 90 percent of units in large apartment buildings. RealPage’s algorithmic pricing first gained broader attention when a 2022 ProPublica investigation detailed how the company’s YieldStar software works.
The DOJ civil lawsuit, which was joined by the attorneys general of eight states, is a significant escalation in legal action against the company. It’s also a first for the DOJ, according to officials speaking on background during a call to discuss the complaint. While the government had previously filed criminal charges against an Amazon seller for algorithm-enabled price-fixing, this is the first civil action in which the algorithm itself, the Justice Department official says, was effectively the means of the violation.
The complaint itself quotes RealPage executives allegedly acknowledging anticompetitive aspects of its product. “There is greater good in everybody succeeding versus essentially trying to compete against one another in a way that actually keeps the entire industry down,” one RealPage executive allegedly wrote.
RealPage has repeatedly denied any allegations of antitrust violations, going so far as to publish a six-page digital pamphlet that claims to tell “the Real Story” about its products, along with an extensive FAQ page on a dedicated public policy website. The company did not immediately respond to a request for comment. “Attacks on the industry’s revenue management are based on demonstrably false information,” one section of that site reads. “RealPage revenue management software benefits both housing providers and residents.”
“We are disappointed that, after multiple years of education and cooperation on the antitrust matters concerning RealPage, the DOJ has chosen this moment to pursue a lawsuit that seeks to scapegoat pro-competitive technology that has been used responsibly for years,” said Jennifer Bowcock, senior vice president of communications and creative at RealPage, in an emailed statement. “RealPage’s revenue management software is purposely built to be legally compliant, and we have a long history of working constructively with the DOJ to show that."
The DOJ disagrees. “Algorithms don’t exist in a law-free zone,” said Monaco in a press conference to discuss the case. “Training a machine to break the law is still breaking the law.”
In this case, the complaint alleges that those algorithms consistently drove rental prices upward. “RealPage’s software tends to maximize price increases, minimize price decreases, and maximize landlords’ pricing power,” said the DOJ in a press release. RealPage also doesn’t just recommend prices; in many cases, it actively sets them.
“RealPage actively polices landlords’ compliance with those recommendations,” said US attorney general Merrick Garland in today’s press conference. “A large number of landlords effectively agree to outsource their pricing decisions to RealPage by using an ‘auto-accept’ setting that effectively permits RealPage to determine the price a renter will pay.”
The DOJ also claims RealPage has created a “self-reinforcing feedback loop” with its data intake and pricing recommendations structure that also gives it an alleged monopoly in the apartment revenue management software industry. Any competitor who plays by the rules, the DOJ claims, is at a distinct disadvantage.
The Justice Department has spent the past several years staffing up with technologists and data scientists, better enabling them to “interrogate the code,” as multiple officials described the investigative process. While this is the first major algorithmic collusion case, DOJ officials suggested it would be far from the last.

Ed Zitron lays it all out here.
You are the victim of a con — one so pernicious that you’ve likely tuned it out despite the fact it’s part of almost every part of your life. It hurts everybody you know in different ways, and it hurts people more based on their socioeconomic status. It pokes and prods and twists millions of little parts of your life, and it’s everywhere, so you have to ignore it, because complaining about it feels futile, like complaining about the weather.  It isn’t. You’re battered by the Rot Economy, and a tech industry that has become so obsessed with growth that you, the paying customer, are a nuisance to be mitigated far more than a participant in an exchange of value. A death cult has taken over the markets, using software as a mechanism to extract value at scale in the pursuit of growth at the cost of user happiness.  These people want everything from you — to control every moment you spend working with them so that you may provide them with more ways to make money, even if doing so doesn’t involve you getting anything else in return. Meta, Amazon, Apple, Microsoft and a majority of tech platforms are at war with the user, and, in the absence of any kind of consistent standards or effective regulations, the entire tech ecosystem has followed suit. A kind of Coalition of the Willing of the worst players in hyper-growth tech capitalism.  Things are being made linearly worse in the pursuit of growth in every aspect of our digital lives, and it’s because everything must grow, at all costs, at all times, unrelentingly, even if it makes the technology we use every day consistently harmful.
What this writer terms the Rot Economy is a larger system that creates the enshittification we know and loathe. It's the constant irrational pursuit of growth. Rot Economy is a great term for a definition that has been slowly coming into focus from one horizon to the other. Not just tech. This essay focuses on Spotify and Meta and speaker software and websites but you could easily extrapolate from here to absolutely everything.
I’m not writing this to complain, but because I believe [sic] that we are in the midst of the largest-scale ecological disaster of our time, because almost every single interaction with technology, which is required to live in modern society, has become actively adversarial to the user. These issues hit everything we do, all the time, a constant onslaught of interference, and I believe it’s so much bigger than just social media and algorithms — though they’re a big part of it, of course.  In plain terms, everybody is being fucked with constantly in tiny little ways by most apps and services, and I believe that billions of people being fucked with at once in all of these ways has profound psychological and social consequences that we’re not meaningfully discussing.
Not to mention being actively fucked with in every way, in every aspect of our lives, by every company trying to suck the last drops of profit from us every minute of the day. How does that constant frustration contribute to the ways we treat each other as family, friends, neighbors, in politics, in everyday interactions?
Anyway, go and read.

John & Paul: A Love Story In Songs tells the story of the tempestuous, tender, intimate, phenomenally creative relationship between John Lennon and Paul McCartney. It’s about how two damaged young men merged their souls and multiplied their talents to create one of the greatest bodies of music in history.
It starts in 1957, when the two of them meet, before taking us through their rise to fame, stupendous success, acrimonious split and aftermath. I tell the story through songs, since it’s my belief that it’s impossible to understand the music of the Beatles except through the alchemy between John and Paul - and you can’t understand that alchemy except through the songs. John & Paul offers a whole new narrative of the Beatles; one which scrapes away the clichés in order to reveal the group and its two principals afresh. It’s a story full of joy, love, pain and pathos. But don’t take my word for it…
The first new Beatles story in decades - and the one that will make your heart burst.
Caitlin Moran
No writer has ever gotten to the heart of the John/Paul saga as brilliantly as Ian Leslie. This extraordinary book sheds light on a cultural mystery: how two nowhere boys from Liverpool formed a teenage bond that transformed the future, and in so many ways, invented it. John and Paul is a bold, original, empathetic revelation of why our world is still fascinated by this friendship-and still trying to live up to it.
Rob Sheffield
I’ve been working on this book for the last three years and it’s now pretty much done - we’re in the very last round of copy edits. It’s the best thing I’ve ever written and I can’t wait to share the whole thing with you. The notes section has been completed (I am so glad to say). The pages have been typeset. Most excitingly: we have a jacket design. Actually two, because John & Paul has two terrific publishers, one in the UK (Faber), one in the US (Celadon).
The Ruffian is deeply intertwined with John & Paul: A Love Story In Songs. The book sprang from a long piece that I wrote about McCartney on here back in 2020. It went so unexpectedly viral that I started to think, huh, what if…? I’d already been thinking, vaguely, of a book about the two of them, but now it seemed viable. I got a similar response to my piece on Peter Jackson’s Get Back, also published on The Ruffian. Those two pieces became my kind of standard for the book - I wanted the whole thing to elicit as powerful a response as they did.
It’s been a massive undertaking and without income from The Ruffian I simply wouldn’t have had time to do this story justice. Over the months to come, especially as we get nearer to publication, I’ll be sending J&P-related posts exclusively to paid subscribers. These will include pieces on the writing of the book, extra material I had to leave out, and perhaps some extracts. There will be other goodies too; my publishers have some exciting plans.
YOU CAN NOW PRE-ORDER ‘JOHN & PAUL’
Yes, it’s out there on the virtual shelves, waiting for you. And I would absolutely love you to pre-order (to those of you annoyed by this arguably redundant term, I apologise but it’s handy).
Every sale of this book counts but some sales count more than others. Pre-orders are simply more valuable to authors. Why? Because they move the algorithmic needles. The more orders a book receives before its publication date, the more prominence the retailers give it when it arrives, and so the better it does on release It’s all about the big mo. The prize is a spot on the bestseller lists in that first week. So let’s give it a go…
If you can afford it, please smash your preferred link and get your order in now (UK and US retailers below):

Rosemary Kirstein’s “The Steerswoman”
Tumblr media
I'm touring my new, nationally bestselling novel The Bezzle! Catch me TONIGHT (May 4) in VANCOUVER, then onto Tartu, Estonia, and beyond!
Tumblr media
For decades, scammy "book doctors" and vanity presses spun a tale about how Big Publishing was too conservative and risk-averse for really really adventurous books, and the only way to get your visionary work published was to pay them to fill your garage with badly printed books that you'd spend the rest of your life trying to get other people to read:
https://pluralistic.net/2021/07/04/self-publishing/
Like all successful grifts, this one worked because it wasn't entirely untrue. No, mainstream publishing isn't filled with corporate gatekeepers who relish the idea of keeping your brilliance from reaching its audience.
But.
But editors sometimes make bad calls. They reject books because of quirks of taste, or fleeting inattentiveness, or personal bias. In a healthy publishing industry – one with dozens of equal-sized presses, all commanding roughly comparable market-share, good books would never slip through the cracks. One publisher's misstep would be another's opportunity.
But after decades of mergers, the population of major publishers has dwindled to a mere Big Five (it was almost four, but the DOJ blocked Penguin Random House's acquisition of Simon & Schuster):
https://www.justice.gov/opa/pr/justice-department-sues-block-penguin-random-house-s-acquisition-rival-publisher-simon
This means that some good books definitely can't find a home in Big Publishing. If you miss with five editors, you can exhaust all your chances with the Big Five.
There's a second tier of great publishers, from data-driven juggernauts like Sourcebooks to boutique presses like Verso and Beacon Press, who publish wonderful books and are very good to their authors (I've published with four of the Big Five and half a dozen of the smaller publishers).
But even with these we-try-harder boutique publishers in the mix, there's a lot of space for amazing books that just don't fit with a "trad" publisher's program. These books are often labors of love by their creators, and that love is reciprocated by their readers. You can have my unbelievably gigantic Little Nemo in Slumberland collection when you pry my cold, dead fingers off of it:
https://memex.craphound.com/2006/09/25/gigantic-little-nemo-book-does-justice-to-the-loveliest-comic-ever/
And don't even think of asking to borrow my copy of Jack Womack's Flying Saucers are Real!:
https://memex.craphound.com/2016/10/03/flying-saucers-are-real-anthology-of-the-lost-saucer-craze/
I will forever cherish my Crad Kilodney chapbooks:
https://pluralistic.net/2024/02/19/crad-kilodney-was-an-outlier/#intermediation
Then there's last year's surprise smash hit, Shift Happens, a two-volume, 750-page slipcased book recounting the history of the keyboard. I own one. It's fantastic:
https://glennf.medium.com/how-we-crowdfunded-750-000-for-a-giant-book-about-keyboard-history-c30e24c4022e
Then there's the whole world of indie Kindle books pitched at incredibly voracious communities of readers, especially the very long tail of very niche sub-sub-genres radiating off the woefully imprecise category of "paranormal romance." These books are landing at precisely the right spot for their readers, despite some genuinely weird behind-the-scenes feuds between their writers:
https://www.theverge.com/2018/7/16/17566276/cockygate-amazon-kindle-unlimited-algorithm-self-published-romance-novel-cabal
But as Sturgeon's Law has it: "90% of everything is shit." Having read slush – the pile of unsolicited manuscripts sent to publishers – I can tell you that a vast number of books get rejected from trad publishers because they aren't good books. I say this without intending any disparagement towards their authors and the creative impulses that drive them. But a publisher's job isn't merely to be good to writers – it's to serve readers, by introducing them to works they are apt to enjoy.
The vast majority of books that publishers pass on are not books that you will want to read, so it follows that the vast majority of self-published work that is offered on self-serve platforms like Kindle or pitched by hopeful writers at street fairs and book festivals is just not very good.
But sometimes you find someone's independent book and it's brilliant, and you get the double thrill of falling in love with a book and of fishing a glittering needle out of an unimaginably gigantic haystack.
(If you want to read an author who beautifully expresses the wonder of finding an obscure, self-published book that's full of unsuspected brilliance, try Daniel Pinkwater, whose Alan Mendelsohn, The Boy From Mars is eleven kinds of brilliant, but is also a marvelous tale of the wonders of weird used book stores with titles like KLONG! You Are a Pickle!):
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alan_Mendelsohn,_the_Boy_from_Mars
I also write books, and I am, in fact, presently in the midst of a long book-tour for my novel The Bezzle. Last month, I did an event in Cambridge, Mass with Randall "XKCD" Munroe that went great. We had a full house, and even after the venue caught fire (really!), everyone followed us across the street to another building, up five flights of stairs, and into another auditorium where we wrapped up the gig:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ulnlSRbH80Y
Afterwards, our hosts from Harvard Berkman-Klein took us to a campus pizza joint/tiki bar for dinner and drinks, and we had a great chat about a great many things. Naturally, we talked about books we loved, and Randall said, "Hey, have you ever read Rosemary Kirstein's Steerswoman novels?"
(I hadn't.)
"They're incredible. All these different people kept recommending them to me, and they kept telling me that I would love them, but they wouldn't tell me what they were about because there's this huge riddle in them that's super fun to figure out for yourself:"
https://www.rosemarykirstein.com/the-books/
"The books were published in the eighties by Del Ray, and the cover of the first one had a huge spoiler on it. But the author got the rights back and she's self-published it" (WARNING: the following link has a HUGE SPOILER!):
https://www.rosemarykirstein.com/2010/12/the-difference/
"I got it and it was pretty rough-looking, but the book was so good. I can't tell you what it was about, but I think you'll really like it!"
How could I resist a pitch like that? So I ordered a copy:
https://bookshop.org/p/books/the-steerswoman-rosemary-kirstein/7900759
Holy moly is this a good novel! And yeah, there's a super interesting puzzle in it that I won't even hint at, except to say that even the book's genre is a riddle that you'll have enormous great fun solving.
Randall wasn't kidding about the book's package. The type looks to be default Microsoft fonts, the spine is printed slightly off-register, the typesetting has lots of gonks, and it's just got that semi-disposable feel of a print-on-demand title.
Without Randall's recommendation, I never would have even read this book closely enough to notice the glowing cover endorsement from Jo Walton, nor the fact that it was included in Damien Broderick and Paul Di Filippo's "101 Best Science Fiction Novels 1985-2010."
But I finished reading the first volume just a few minutes ago and I instantly ordered the next three in the series (it's planned for seven volumes, and the author says she plans on finishing it – I can't wait).
This book is such an unexpected marvel, a stunner of a novel filled with brilliant world-building, deft characterizations, a hard-driving plot and a bunch of great surprises. The fact that such a remarkable tale comes in such an unremarkable package makes it even more of a treasure, like a geode: unremarkable on the outside, a glittering blaze within.

## What’s a Cyber Forensic Investigator?
Master post - part 1 • part 2
You must have heard bout forensics yk investigating bout dead people who might have been killed and all
You must have seen shows on those topics too.Cyber forensic investigator is just of same kind but investigating through all types of modern gadgets.
Catching hackers and all but cooler
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
### The Money Talk: How Much Do They Make?
- **Cash Money**: Expect to rake in about $60k to $120k a year. If you are very much experienced and skilled then you can expect about 150k+ a year.(obv different countries and companies may have different wages)
### Companies That Want You
- **Tech Titans**: Google, Amazon, Facebook—they all have requirement for such heroes
- **Gov Jobs**: FBI, CIA—basically every spy agency wants you.
- **Cybersecurity Firms**: CrowdStrike, McAfee—so every gateway you go you gonna have opportunities everywhere.
### What Other Forensic Investigators Are There?
- **Forensic Pathologists**: Real-life detectives who figure out how someone died. Less tech, more science.
- **DNA Analysts**: The ones matching DNA samples
- **Forensic Accountants**: Following the money to catch fraudsters and scammers
- **Toxicologists**: Poison experts, figuring out if someone’s been covertly poisoned. (Yeaa yk snow white story)
### What’s the Work Environment Like?
- **The Lab**: Imagine a room filled with more screens than your gaming setup. Gadgets galore, maybe even a Red Bull or two
- **On the Move**: Sometimes you’re out in the field, collecting evidence. Think of it like collecting rare items in a game.
- **Remote Vibes**: You could be solving cybercrimes from your bed in your PJs .
### How Long Does It Take to Become One?
- **Time Investment**: About 4 years for a bachelor’s, and then 1-2 more years for a master’s if you’re going all-in. So, 5-6 years total. But hey, good things take time, right?
### What Do You Study?
- **Cybersecurity/Computer Science**: Your main jams. Think of them as the ultimate cheat codes for this career.
- **Digital Forensics**: Specialized courses where you learn to be a digital ninja.
- **Law and Ethics**: Learning how to catch the bad guys without breaking the law yourself. (You yourself don't want to be troubled obviously)
### Subjects You Need to Get Into It
- **Math**: Yep, but not the boring kind—more like coding and algorithms.
- **Computer Science**: Your go-to for everything techy.
- **Optional Nerd Points**: Chemistry/Physics if you’re into hardware forensics or just want to flex those brain muscles.
### Work Hours: What to Expect?
- **9 to 5-ish**: Standard hours if you’re working for a company, but expect some late nights or weekend shifts when big cases pop up.
- **On-Call Madness**: Sometimes you’re on-call like a digital firefighter. Cyber-attack at 3 AM? Time to suit up (or log in) and handle it.
- **Flexible/Remote**: If you’re lucky, you can work from home. Just remember, no solving crimes in your underwear during Zoom meetings!
### Interview with a Cyber Forensic Investigator
**Interviewer**: What’s a day in the life of a cyber forensic investigator?
**Cyber Sleuth**: Imagine rolling out of bed, grabbing your coffee, and diving into cases. I’m talking analyzing hard drives, sifting through emails, or tracking down cyberattack origins. Some days it’s all data, other days I’m working with law enforcement or testifying in court. Never a dull moment!
**Interviewer**: What’s the coolest case you’ve worked on?
**Cyber Sleuth**: Helping bust a phishing ring that was scamming millions. Tracked their digital footprints, caught the culprits, and recovered their loot. Felt like a total legend.
**Interviewer**: Ever seen some dark stuff, like murders?
*Cyber Sleuth**: Yeah, I’ve stumbled across some pretty grim stuff. It’s not all memes and malware—sometimes it’s serious business. But catching those bad guys makes it all worth it.
**Interviewer**: Have you ever been on the dark web?
**Cyber Sleuth**: Oh, for sure. It’s like the sketchy underbelly of the internet. Lots of shady deals. I go there when I need to, but it’s not a fun hangout spot.
**Interviewer**: How dark can a case get?
**Cyber Sleuth**: It can get really intense. I’ve worked on cases involving human trafficking and other serious crimes. It’s tough, but making a difference makes it worth it.
**Interviewer**: Any advice for someone who wants to get into this field?
**Cyber Sleuth**: Stay curious and keep learning. Tech evolves fast, so you’ve gotta keep up. And don’t be afraid to dig deep—sometimes the answers are buried in tons of data, but finding them is like hitting gold.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
So if you’re into tech and have subjects like mathematics , chemistry and physics then you are all set to start your journey.i have seen ppl running for a common a job and all and they are not even specified about what they want. So just research and find out what you want.

Another Internet Whitepaper
I'm just gonna get into there is no way to preface this.
1) content should be hosted in their own countries for which they are meant.
2) therefore the website should split into Nation->Sub-nation sections. So things for Michigan would be closer to those in Michigan. With U.S.->Michigan.
--"independent" Nations are just gonna have to deal with being lumped together into a united region. It's simply physics.
--country wide servers and clouds, and worldwide services will still be available; but we need to develop protocols to make it easier to distribute data and declutter the internet-cloud.
3) a separate Intranet for official use and security will need to be developed alongside this while also being completely disconnected from the worldwideweb.
4) Splits;
IP Addresses redesign;
[Country/Region]:[State/Province]:[individual]
[Individual] will need to be controlled by local The Internet Assigned Numbers Authority (IANA) branches; likely to be reassigned to DMVs and SoSs.
5) Separate protocols For;
Streaming Services
Social Media Services
Bidirectional Interactions (like games and Virtual Machines)
Pornography needs to be completely identifiable by textual Web address.
5) you local region will be defaulted, but can be changed by the browser and not be hard-wired in.
Not indicating a region will automatically default to the local internet.
So typing in FBI.GOV in the U.S. will lead to the FBI website, and if you type it in the UK it'll lead to Mi:5 or something.
6) Social Media protocols will have to be integrated with the E-Mail SMTP protocols. Which will encourage a more decentralized internet. This will *also* have to find a way to work with phone text messages.
7) Cable TV and Streaming services will have to use the same protocols.
8) Because there's phone integration here; a phone number may have to be closer to a social security number going forward. Which will both be bad for animosity, but allow for people to not need login information.
-- This will technically also need to apply to your House; which will have to have an assigned street address.
9) all of these need to be obfuscated to casual observers.
10) this will deprecate our phone companies and require them to work with cable TV and internet companies in order to create more equitable protocols.
11) the current IP address and Domain Registry systems need to be deprecated; as it does not suit its original purpose.
[.xxx] will be assigned for all "adult" materials and be required for ALL "adult materials" posted online.
[.app] will be assigned for appstores.
[.store] for marketplaces like Amazon, eBay, and whatever else.
[.bank] will be for banking and credit purposes
[.social] will be for social media
[.stream] will be for streaming materials,
[.np] for non-profit use only.
[.donation] for donation collections and Kickstarter like services.
[.pay] for payment services like PayPal
Non "adult materials" can be streamed through other "front ends" .
13) These human readable extensions will be simplified on the backend to reduce the total data envelope size.
14) single digit ip-adresses will have to be regulated for use for high-capacity uses. These will need to be "extended" protocols that different services can use.
This will help even out everybody's data envelopes. This will have to be part of a cloud service that can be used by anybody that needs it. With certain restrictions that are deemed necessary by local and federal governments and international treaty reasons.
15) limits on how algorithms and "bots" can ping anything at one time need to be addressed or regulated.
This will be a massive undertaking with the cooperation of all the other governments around the world.
And will be a very lucrative endeavor at the end of it all.
This is just an outline to describe the form the future internet should take and can be changed or modified as required; especially for things I cannot see.
The current corporations will be expected to develop a plan of actions in tandem with current regulatory authorities; failure to do so will create a need for an ultimatum, which we all wish to avoid.
We're also going to need to find ways to encourage competition in these sectors so that they can be upgraded and modified as needed by local areas instead of waiting on these companies to bother with it.

On The Algorithimization of Life
Ever since facebook created a ranking system back around 2007 to decide which posts get seen in the news feed in what order, more and more social media sites from instagram to tiktok, and then even non-social media sights like amazon, netflix and spotify have included some sort of algorithm to serve content to users.
While the number of services that use algortihms to decide which content to show us has increased, so too has the amount of time we spent on these services increased. The average time spent on social media is now over two hours a day, and has increased forty minutes from ten years ago (Data from Soax).
Algorithmic recommendations have advantages, of course. That's why people use them. Algorithmic recommendations allow the users to see only things that may interest them. When facebook introduced their newsfeed feature that would show updates from your friends all in one place, instead of going to their individual pages, they wanted to show the news that was more relevant first, and that was decided by an algorithm that was manually designed at first, based off of how recent a post was, how much you interact with that user, and what type of post it was.
Another benefit algorithms could offer is allowing you to discover things you're interested in that you never would otherwise see. One of my favorite songs I discovered because I saw a random ukulele video on youtube that i never would have searched for, but yet really enjoyed watching.
If the algorithm is serving new, unfamiliar content in addition to that of the people you follow, you can keep refreshing or scrolling and get more and more content without end. This is appealing, as you never get that dissapointed feeling of not having something new to see, you never feel bored. But that also means there are very few natural points to log off and go do something else, if there is always a new recommendation to look at. But, boredom can be good for us (veritasium video on boredom).
Algorithims are no longer weighted by people, now there are machine learning systems that decide which factors to weight how much, usually with the goal of getting users to stay on the platform as long as possible to increase ad revenue. But staying on the platform as long as possible isn't the same as enjoying it. It might just mean I can't look away. And then I find myself with less time to do activities that actually satisfy me.
But if I have issues with algorithmic recommendations, what are my alternatives? There's a few main alternatives I can think of. Searches, following, and recomendations. Ao3 has a really good system for searching through all the fanfics posted on it. Because they have a system of tagging works that I can both include and exclude when searching, I can search for exactly what I want. The main challenge is knowing what I want, but I find that a fun challenge. I get to discover what I enjoy, and learn more about myself in the process. (Although I enjoy different search engines differently. Perhaps
Following creators and seeing what they make can be really satisfying! I get to see multiple things from the same person and learn more about them and their art, in addition to getting to see someone grow over time. But following on its own has a huge problem: discovery. You have to know someone exists to follow them. This can be possible through search, as you can go from a topic to a creator, but there is another way as well. Recommendations.
Human reccomendations feel the most similar to using an algorithm to recommend, as the main change is switching out who is recomending, but I quite enjoy it. Whether it's a friend sharing a reel with me, a mutual reblogging a cool post, or a youtuber collabing with someone they think does a good job, there are a lot of ways to get recommendations, and can lead to some good experiences.

Writers Live On Reviews and Caffeine, and Sometimes Sales
So, I have a request for all of you out there. Well, those of you who read. Well, those of you who read my stuff. Well, those of you who like reading my stuff.
Or even if you don't, what the heck.
As all of you know--well, some of you--we just re-released my first published novel, Storm Chaser. Thanks to Emily for doing ...
Everything. My wife did everything. Every now and then she'd toss me a proof copy, I'd leaf through it, and she'd go back to doing all that stuff she did. I did nothing, I admit it. Happy now?
Tumblr media
Anyway, there's what it looks like. Yes, Emily put the cover together, based on the old one. But there's one thing she couldn't do: transfer all the reviews of the original edition onto this new one. Which is here:
https://www.amazon.com/Storm-Chaser-Mark-Hunter-ebook/dp/B0C7MB95NH
According to Goodreads, Storm Chaser collected 15 reviews and 27 ratings, which isn't great but beats the heck out of how many reviews I've gotten for Summer Jobs Are Murder (which hasn't been published yet). The problem is, according to Amazon I now have exactly three reviews. Which, at least, is easy to count. (Why those three stayed, I have no idea.)
So I'm asking everyone who has or does purchase the book, on Kindle or in print, to leave me a review. I don't know if Amazon will allow reviewers to post on the new book if they bought the old book, but if it doesn't you could at least leave yours on Goodreads, or the review place of your choice, up to and including bathroom stalls.
Just don't put my phone number there.
In return for your help I will ... hm ... dance.
Tumblr media
No. No, that's a terrible idea. It's asking for another month of ice and ibuprofen. But I will be very grateful, because online reviews really do matter, especially on Amazon. No one really knows how Amazon's algorithms work, and I don't really know what an algorithm is, but I'm told the more reviews you have, the more likely you are to be seen.
People who see, buy. If enough people buy, I can write more. It's the circle of write.
Tumblr media
This is the old version. You'll probably still see it here and there, so I should warn you it's probably more expensive.

The New Rules of Amazon SEO — And the AI Stack You Need to Win
Amazon SEO optimization isn’t just about stuffing in keywords or cleaning up bullet points anymore. If you’re managing ecommerce at scale, you already know: the algorithm’s evolved — and your playbook has to, too.
Today, rankings are influenced by more than just word choice. They’re shaped by structured data, search intent, content format, even how AI shopping assistants like Rufus interpret your listings. And that’s just the start.
Tumblr media
Here’s what brands are really dealing with:
• Search performance that drops overnight with no clear cause • Retailer-specific formatting rules that keep shifting • AI assistants changing how shoppers search (and what they click) • Limited space to include every keyword, claim, and detail that matters • A content backlog that only seems to grow, not shrink
The old way — updating listings one by one, tracking keywords in spreadsheets, or doing “quarterly refreshes” — just can’t keep up. Not when algorithms evolve weekly, trends shift by the day, and SEO is tied directly to revenue.
That’s where AI steps in — not just to speed things up, but to rethink how Amazon SEO optimization gets done.
The smartest ecommerce teams aren’t replacing their content teams. They’re giving them superpowers. With the right AI stack, they’re scaling what works, skipping the grunt work, and getting in front of trends before they impact performance.
Here are six AI-driven strategies they’re using right now to scale Amazon SEO optimization — and win back time, traffic, and control.
Draft Smarter, Not Slower: Use AI to Speed Up Product Content Creation
Audit Listings with AI — Before the Algorithm Does
By the time your Amazon rankings dip, it’s already late. The damage is done — lost visibility, fewer clicks, lower sales. Most brands react only after the algorithm has flagged an issue. But with AI, you don’t have to play catch-up anymore.
Smart teams are flipping the script: auditing their entire catalog before the algorithm penalizes them.
Tools like Genrise act like proactive SEO watchdogs. They run real-time scans across your product listings — no manual input needed — and surface the issues that kill your performance.
Here’s what AI catches in seconds: • Products missing backend keywords or key search terms • Bullet points with outdated phrasing or weak keyword density • Listings that violate new retailer formatting or claim rules • Titles that are too long, too short, or keyword-poor • Categories that aren’t aligned with current shopper behavior
And it’s not just a dump of errors. Genrise organizes the findings by priority — so your team knows exactly what to fix, in what order, for the biggest SEO impact.
You’re not just maintaining listings. You’re actively defending your shelf position — with AI watching your back.
Amazon SEO optimization starts with a clear view of what’s broken. AI makes sure you see it — and fix it — before the algorithm does.
Use Generative AI to Scale Keyword-Optimized Titles and Bullets
Your content team can write great PDPs. But they can’t do it 10,000 times — not manually, not fast enough, and not with every format nuance baked in.
That’s where generative AI in ecommerce steps up. It doesn’t just generate copy — it builds content that’s strategically optimized for both human shoppers and Amazon’s algorithm. Think keyword density tuned per product, per retailer, per trend — all without spreadsheets.
With Genrise, here’s what AI-powered Amazon SEO optimization actually looks like: • Titles that hit keyword targets and fit Amazon’s character limits • Bullets that highlight the right product benefits — in the order shoppers expect • Copy that adjusts tone and claims based on your legal team’s rules • Marketplace-specific formatting that’s built in — no rework needed for Walmart vs. Amazon • No more keyword stuffing — just natural placement based on what drives rankings
You can even set your own brand voice and compliance guardrails. Genrise learns how you write — then scales it. That means zero rewrites, less back-and-forth, and no surprises.
And since it pulls real-time data, the content isn’t just well-written — it’s current. Seasonal terms, trending keywords, competitor gaps — all built in.
Predict and Adapt to Amazon’s Algorithm Shifts
Amazon won’t send a memo when it updates its search algorithm — but your rankings will feel it.
The problem? Most teams spot the impact only after traffic drops. And by then, you’re already losing share to brands who moved faster.
AI flips that reaction cycle on its head.
Platforms like Genrise don’t just track your SEO performance — they analyze patterns across the entire category. When a shift hits, they surface early signals so you can adapt content before it affects sales.
Here’s what that looks like in action: • Catch rising search terms that are gaining traction before your competitors do • See which copy changes correlate with better CTR or page one rankings • Flag listings impacted by changes in how Amazon’s AI (like Rufus) interprets queries • Get alerts when algorithm updates start to penalize outdated formats or claim types
Instead of waiting for performance to tank, you’re updating listings proactively — backed by data, not gut feel.
That’s the difference between reactive SEO and strategic SEO optimization. With AI, you’re not guessing what the algorithm wants — you’re learning from it in real time.
And while others scramble to course-correct, your listings stay one step ahead.
Automate Compliance Checks for Claims and Guidelines
Speed matters in ecommerce — but so does staying out of legal trouble. And when your legal and brand teams move at a different pace than the marketplaces you're selling on, things get messy fast.
That lag can kill your momentum.
One claim that slips through can trigger a takedown. One delayed approval can stall an entire campaign. And when you’re juggling different rules for Amazon, Walmart, and beyond, it’s a minefield.
AI helps you move faster — without cutting corners.
Genrise is trained to know your brand's approved language, legal limitations, and claim frameworks. So when it generates product content, it already knows: • Which phrases are approved vs. risky • What health, environmental, or performance claims are off-limits • How to phrase benefits in a way that’s compelling and compliant • How to localize content based on retailer and regulatory requirements
And unlike a manual review queue, it runs this check instantly — across hundreds or thousands of SKUs.
That means no more bottlenecks between content creation and legal review. Your team builds product copy that’s optimized and compliant the first time around.
Track and Improve Rankings with AI Signals
Amazon doesn’t hand out SEO grades. You don’t get a scorecard. No official ranking dashboard. Just traffic data, conversion rates — and a lot of guesswork.
That’s why smart brands are turning to AI to connect the dots.
AI tools like Genrise reverse-engineer what’s working and what’s not using marketplace signals. They sift through massive amounts of search data, category benchmarks, and competitor listings to give you a clear picture of performance.
Here’s how that helps: • See which keywords are moving the needle — and which ones are dead weight • Identify listings that are sliding in visibility before it hits your bottom line • Track changes in rank by SKU, keyword, and competitor • Pinpoint what updates (copy, keywords, layout) correlate with better performance • Get AI-generated fixes that are prioritized by potential impact — not just volume
You’re not waiting for a quarterly review or a sales dip to prompt action. You’re tweaking and tuning in real-time — across your entire catalog — with AI showing you where to focus.
That means fewer SEO blind spots. Smarter decisions. And better rankings, week after week.
Refresh at Scale — Weekly, Not Yearly
Still doing yearly content refreshes? That’s like running Black Friday campaigns with last spring’s data.
Amazon SEO optimization today is a moving target. Search trends change. Competitor listings evolve. Marketplace algorithms shift — sometimes quietly, sometimes drastically. And if your content doesn’t keep up, your rankings won’t either.
AI gives you the muscle to refresh continuously, not occasionally.
With Genrise, you can automate content updates based on real performance signals — no need to wait for a calendar cycle or a QBR to start optimizing again.
Here’s how modern teams are doing it: • Trigger refreshes when rankings drop or keyword volume spikes • Schedule updates around promo periods, product launches, or seasonality • Push new content to Amazon, Walmart, and others — in the right format, every time • Roll out small changes to test copy variants and improve conversions over time • Free up your team from manual rewrites, so they can focus on strategy
Instead of playing catch-up, you’re leading the SEO cycle — always a step ahead of algorithm shifts and customer trends.
Stop Guessing. Start Scaling Amazon SEO with AI.
Amazon SEO optimization isn’t just a task anymore — it’s a competitive edge. And the top ecommerce teams aren’t stuck in the weeds. They’re scaling fast, iterating often, and letting AI do the heavy lifting.
If you’re still chasing keyword lists in spreadsheets or waiting on manual reviews, you’re burning time and bleeding traffic.
Genrise helps you flip the script: • Scan your entire catalog for SEO risks — before performance drops • Generate ranking-ready titles, bullets, and descriptions in minutes • Keep every listing across every channel current, compliant, and on-brand
No more guesswork. No more bottlenecks. Just fast, smart, scalable Amazon SEO optimization — built for brands that move.
Ready to stop falling behind? Let’s fix your listings, sharpen your rankings, and grow smarter — at scale.
FAQs
How does AI improve Amazon SEO optimization? AI helps identify SEO gaps, generate optimized copy, track keyword performance, and adapt to algorithm shifts faster than manual teams can.
Is generative AI content compliant with Amazon’s rules? Yes — if it’s built with brand claims and legal standards in mind. Tools like Genrise ensure every output passes compliance.
Can AI tools handle different marketplaces (e.g., Walmart, Target)? Absolutely. Genrise supports marketplace-specific formatting, keywords, and compliance for multiple retailers.

AI in Fraud Detection: How Smart Technology Fights Financial Crime
Fraud is a growing threat in today’s digital world. As more people shop, bank, and do business online, fraudsters are getting smarter. But thankfully, so is technology. I’ve seen how AI in fraud detection is changing the game—spotting suspicious activity in real time and protecting businesses and customers before damage is done.
What Is AI in Fraud Detection?
AI in fraud detection uses machine learning, pattern recognition, and real-time data analysis to identify unusual behavior. It’s faster and more accurate than traditional systems because it learns over time, adapting to new threats automatically.
Example:
If a customer who always shops in London suddenly makes a purchase in Tokyo five minutes later, AI systems can instantly flag this as suspicious.
Why Is AI Better Than Traditional Methods?
Old fraud detection tools often rely on fixed rules, like: “Flag all transactions over $5,000.” But AI can go deeper.
Key Advantages:
Learns from patterns over time
Reduces false positives (blocking real customers)
Works in real-time
Detects complex fraud involving multiple accounts or steps
How Does AI Detect Fraud?
AI fraud detection usually involves:
Data Collection – Gathering transaction history, device info, location, etc.
Pattern Analysis – Using models to understand normal behavior
Anomaly Detection – Flagging anything that looks out of the ordinary
Risk Scoring – Assigning a threat level to each transaction
Action – Blocking, alerting, or requesting extra verification
Common Use Cases
IndustryAI ApplicationExampleBankingCredit card fraud, identity theftBlocking a hacked account in real timeE-commerceFake transactions, refund fraudDetecting bots or unusual ordersInsuranceClaims fraud detectionFlagging fake accident reportsTelecomSubscription and identity fraudCatching SIM card swapping
Tools and Technologies
Popular tools used for AI-based fraud detection include:
SAS Fraud Management
FICO Falcon Platform
IBM Trusteer
Kount
Darktrace
Amazon Fraud Detector
Most of these use advanced machine learning models, including decision trees, neural networks, and clustering algorithms.
Challenges in AI-Based Fraud Detection
Even with AI, there are a few things to keep in mind:
Data Quality: Poor data leads to poor results
Privacy Concerns: Sensitive customer data must be protected
Evolving Threats: Fraudsters adapt quickly, so models must be updated
Bias Risks: AI must be trained fairly to avoid unfair profiling
The Future of AI in Fraud Detection
AI is expected to become even more powerful through:
Deep Learning for better pattern recognition
Behavioral Biometrics (how you type or move your mouse)
Natural Language Processing to detect fake documents or conversations
Collaborative AI where companies share threat data securely
Final Thoughts
AI in fraud detection is not just a trend—it’s a necessity. With smarter tools, businesses can stay one step ahead of cybercriminals, reduce losses, and keep customers safe. As threats evolve, AI is proving to be the most reliable guard at the gate.

Why Hiring an Amazon PPC Consultant is a Game-Changer for Your Business
Amazon has become the world’s largest marketplace, and with that dominance comes intense competition. Millions of sellers are vying for attention, making it increasingly difficult for brands to get noticed organically. In this environment, Amazon Pay-Per-Click (PPC) advertising isn’t just an option—it’s a necessity. But running successful PPC campaigns isn’t as easy as flipping a switch. It requires strategy, deep knowledge, and ongoing optimization. That’s where an Amazon PPC consultant steps in.
This guide will explain why Amazon PPC matters, what a consultant does, and how hiring one can radically change the trajectory of your business. Whether you’re just launching your first product or managing a growing Amazon storefront, this article is your roadmap to making smarter advertising decisions.
What is Amazon PPC and Why Should You Care?
Before diving into the value of a consultant, it’s important to understand what Amazon PPC is and why it holds so much power.
Amazon PPC is Amazon’s internal advertising system where sellers bid on keywords to display their products in search results or on product detail pages. Every time someone clicks on an ad, the seller pays a fee. Sounds simple, right? Not quite.
There are multiple types of PPC campaigns:
Sponsored Products: Promote individual listings in search results.
Sponsored Brands: Highlight your brand with custom headlines and showcase multiple products.
Sponsored Display: Retarget shoppers on and off Amazon.
Each campaign type has its own strategy, keyword approach, and budget management tactics. Without in-depth knowledge, it's easy to burn through ad spend with poor results.
Why Your Amazon Business Needs a PPC Expert
Amazon’s advertising landscape is like the Wild West. It’s fast, volatile, and constantly evolving. A campaign that worked last month might fail this month due to new competitors, bidding wars, or algorithm updates. An Amazon PPC consultant brings the structure, data analysis, and strategy needed to succeed in this ever-changing market.
1. Keyword Research Done Right
A successful Amazon PPC strategy starts with the right keywords. This is more than just finding high-volume search terms. It’s about identifying:
Long-tail keywords that convert better
Competitor keywords you can outperform
Negative keywords to avoid wasteful spending
Consultants use advanced tools and years of experience to dig up high-performing keywords that align with your goals. This precision can make the difference between profitability and a money pit.
2. Smart Campaign Structuring
Campaign structure can make or break your advertising efforts. A consultant knows how to segment campaigns effectively based on product categories, match types, and performance tiers. Proper structure allows for:
Better control over budget allocation
Easier optimization
Higher campaign relevance
Without this knowledge, sellers often run chaotic, unprofitable campaigns that lack focus.
3. Budget Optimization
Overspending on PPC is a common pain point for Amazon sellers. A professional consultant will monitor your campaign’s performance daily, pausing underperforming keywords, reallocating funds, and testing new ad sets to stretch your dollars further. It’s not about spending more—it’s about spending smarter.
4. Data-Driven Decision Making
A strong Amazon PPC consultant doesn't operate on gut instinct. They use data from Amazon Advertising Console, Seller Central, and third-party tools to make intelligent adjustments. Metrics such as:
ACOS (Advertising Cost of Sale)
TACOS (Total Advertising Cost of Sale)
CTR (Click Through Rate)
CVR (Conversion Rate) help them refine targeting, improve bids, and increase ROI.
5. Staying Ahead of Algorithm Updates
Amazon frequently updates its advertising policies and algorithm behaviors. Sellers who are unaware of these changes can experience sudden performance drops. A consultant stays informed on industry trends and shifts in best practices, ensuring your campaigns stay compliant and competitive.
The Risks of DIY Amazon PPC
Many sellers attempt to run their own campaigns to save costs. While this might seem like a smart move early on, the reality often looks different.
You’re Wasting Valuable Time
PPC is a full-time job. Between keyword research, bid management, and reporting, it can eat up hours every week. This is time you could be using to improve your products, customer experience, or scaling operations.
You Could Burn Through Your Budget Fast
Without experience, you might overbid on low-converting keywords, miss negative keywords, or use the wrong match types. These mistakes compound quickly, leaving you with high ACOS and little return.
Inconsistent Results
DIY campaigns often produce up-and-down results due to a lack of consistent optimization. An expert brings stability and predictability to your ad performance.
What to Look for in an Amazon PPC Consultant
Not all consultants are created equal. If you’re considering bringing one on board, here’s what you should look for:
Proven Track Record
Always ask for case studies or performance data from past clients. A good consultant should be able to show growth in sales, improvement in ACOS, or other measurable KPIs.
Transparent Communication
A consultant should offer regular updates and explain the reasoning behind their strategies. If they hide data or resist questions, that’s a red flag.
Understanding of Amazon's Ecosystem
Great PPC consultants understand more than just ads—they grasp how listing optimization, reviews, inventory management, and pricing impact your ad performance. PPC doesn’t exist in a vacuum.
Use of Tools and Automation
While manual oversight is important, consultants should also use advanced tools like Helium 10, Jungle Scout, or software for bid automation and keyword tracking.
When to Hire a PPC Consultant
Not sure if it's the right time to get help? Here are signs you’re ready:
You’re launching a new product and need immediate visibility
Your ACOS is climbing, and you’re not sure why
Sales are stagnating, despite running ads
You don’t have time to manage campaigns anymore
You’re spending more than you’re earning through PPC
If any of these situations sound familiar, it’s time to get expert help.
What to Expect When You Hire One
When you hire an Amazon PPC consultant, they’ll typically begin with an audit of your existing campaigns, followed by a strategy session to align with your goals. After that, they will:
Set up or restructure campaigns
Conduct keyword research
Implement tracking and reporting
Optimize on a weekly (or even daily) basis
This relationship should feel like a partnership. You stay focused on your business, while they work behind the scenes to drive your traffic and boost sales.
Long-Term ROI: Is It Worth It?
A good consultant doesn’t just reduce your ACOS—they unlock your potential for growth. With better rankings, more sales, and less ad waste, your profits grow over time. PPC isn’t just about short-term visibility. When done right, it builds your brand presence, helps dominate search results, and boosts organic rankings through increased traffic and conversions.
In many cases, the cost of hiring a consultant is quickly recovered through improved performance and higher revenue.
