How can I connect to my community as a lesbian? I’m 28, I’ve been out for 13 years, and it just bugs me that everything is about being queer now. I’ve always struggled to relate to the rest of the lgbt community.

I would say subscribe to Lesbian Connection Mag. It is free if you can't afford it. (to Lesbians). You can ask your library to carry it if you can't safely get it at home. There are lots of lesbian centric books, events and conversations. It has been around for 50 year I think.

Check on FB for "Lesbians of (insert your state or city). There are often groups for lesbian that meet regionally. Check with your local Library to see if they have a lesbian book club. If not, ask them to help you start one. Three lesbians in a reserved room at a library is a "lesbian event" LOL

Check out pages for magazines like Curve and GoMagazine. There are lots of lesbians in the comments and they might have regional mentions. (both are lesbian centric with a touch of LGBTQIA weaved in).

Reach out to groups like OWLS (Older Wiser Lesbians) and OLOC (old lesbians organizing for change) and ask if they ever have intergenerational meetup or would be willing to have one.

As much as I love my whole LGBT+ friends there are times I just want to be around lesbians and the fact is, if you want the space, sometimes you just have to create it.

"The Little Punk Library is a project devoted to making information accessible and available pending the obsolescence of the internet (especially social media) and continued censorship online.

We aim to collect books, printed articles, magazines/zines, and more, in order to help our community access information. With the help of our trusty printer/scanner, the postal system, and our own creative brains, we hope with the resources we provide we can be an asset to our community both near and far. Some of the resources we’d like to provide include an index of informational and instructional articles, information packets and learning resources, a collection of fiction and nonfiction books for potential lending (still figuring the mechanics out of how this will go), magazines/zines and chapbooks, and more.

We are also interested in potentially creating a lending library for DVDs, CDs, vinyl records, and other physical media, but it is not our current focus.

I'm working on putting out more information available through Bluesky and a web page that I'm having technological issues with but am hoping to get up and running soon. Ultimately my goal is to create a zine or even just a page of information about how to access The Little Punk Library so that it will be put on paper and not just online and can be exchanged via snail mail. Now, there is a major difference if you come into my ask box and ask me what constitutes as an underage picture. I'm happy to educate. I'm not just throwing down the ban hammer for funsies. I'm trying to protect myself and my followers and it's uncomfortable to see these images. If you put a cw or tw tag on your image with under age? well I won't see it then.

Plus, it's been explicitly stated by Noah himself that this makes him uncomfortable so...

Remember when I told you gaycavilltheorist is in fact a woman and not a gay man? Recently I’ve checked one of their posts and thought to myself that horrible grammar sounds like one person. But let me take you to the past for this story cuz it’s really complicated.

Back in the days there was a “tea” page called Thirstycavillgirls. Now thirstycavillgirls had a problem. She likes lying. Uncontrollably. She also creates different characters and takes their personality. Yeah there’s a name for it, but I’m not a doctor so I’ll let you google about that. She was a southern witch, a minor,scotish Irish “lass”, a gay man (does it ring a bell 🛎️?), an old English woman ,a lesbian,a woman who lost her fiancé to Covid, a stylist for the Witcher…

All of these have one thing in common and that’s a really creepy obsession with Henry Cavill and his girlfriend.

On X she pretended to be working as stylist on the Witcher set and she was romantically involved with Henry. As marmelade_skies1850 she pretends to be a southern witch or something (horrible grammar) and in her mind she can “take down Henry but she is silent”. LoL. As henryluv4life she was a minor. As madamegothicvamp she is selling jewellery (at least she thinks she is selling cuz I’ve heard other things) as gaycavilltheorist she is a “married gay man trying to expose gay Henry”. As thristycavillgirls 1&2 she used to write herself emails and told everyone they’re from Leah 😂 until she was exposed lol.

Are you still following? Cuz this is where it gets interesting. Who is gaycavilltheorist?. One might suggest she is a Jenny Q ( I will not post her last name) she is selling jewellery through her madamegothicvamp page. But Jenny has only one picture for the past several years. Now research on X -there are few tweets of Jenny arguing with a certain person called Marcy (will not post her name publicly). Apparently Jenny was threatening Marcy’s baby? 😱 Weird I know. It gets weirder cuz further evidence shows Marcy and Jenny Q are both running Madamegothicvamp page on FB? Now why would you put a person thats threatening your child as an admin of your page but also say you have no idea who this woman is? Remember how I said Jenny has just one picture? Marcy however has many. FB,X,Instagram ,Tumblr ,TikTok.

And now she is pretending to be gay man 😂.

You know Marcy instead of being this obsessed with Henry Cavill maybe be concerned about your baby boy whose videos you’re posting on TikTok and have grown ass man commenting. There’s a name for that and I keep wondering should CPS be involved and is your son safe?

People see you as someone private/reserved. You may be sharing photos or words if something really happens and you really feel like sharing about it but even more... when you remember. You may not be that social (at least online in specific contexts). Or maybe you don't have too much time to spend online for fun and you rather just scroll through your feed and enjoy random stuff (art, videos, photos especially by famous creators/memes or such. You rather be entertained than entertain). You may filter what you post/say or you literally add different filters on or edit your photos/videos a lot... Anyway the result is pretty pleasing to the eye, maybe you follow a certain pattern in your posts (aesthetically, so you cannot always post pictures if they don't resonate with the whole page).

It seems you kinda hide part of yourself or what you do, it feels like you're mysterious/there's more about you; but you don't have to do it (=be this reserved/mysterious) on purpose, it may just be your way to behave online. As said you may just post occasionally also cause you may not like social medias that much or feel too comfortable with them (maybe you don't enjoy the drama around them, the people lurking on you or you don't want to really be seen/found by too many people; some of you may fear your account being found by someone you don't want to discover you or you had bad experiences with someone stalking you and now you're trying to act differently online and use a more-difficult-to-be-recognized nickname and persona). Maybe some of you created an account somewhere just to try how it works or what can happen. You more likely have a specific social media you like and feel good at using and sharing stuff on, while you may not like many others (let's say you feel good on tumblr but not on insta/fb/tiktok/x..., for example). Some of you may even have a private account you made viewable basically only to friends. Wait... maybe you're the one lurking on others (at least to an extent)? If it's so, all I'm gonna say now is: please try to work on your demons before bringing them out on others.

I heard "break the internet". So maybe you're some type of internet famous (every post reaches lot of public and gets interactions easily) or you may actually use socials for marketing or work in communication/advertising or something like that. Maybe you are in charge for someone's/some associations' feed or like a shop or something. Anyway, you seem to share good vibes and bring support and encouragement to others. You may share your values (or those the brand you work for represents) too, not just what you do for fun or how to make the best of what you have. And you may have created a large public/community around you, even if you don't know. People do see you as inspiring and really like to know about you or hear from you. You may bring comfort and relief, make them feel special and heard/seen. I don't feel like you have many haters or if you do, they don't seem to be too communicative about their feelings: maybe they also fear you or something. Maybe you also don't care much about them: well done! For a few: you'd like to become famous online and trying to go viral anytime you can or you'd like to work with social medias (even as a social media manager).

We all know social medias have particular rules and in order to make it you need to keep in mind different aspects of your communication, schedule things in advance when possible and be constant (ofc there may be a lucky post, but it needs to be supported by others). But anyway, you kinda have "it"? It seems you have good ideas, you're fun, you give entertainment and many different occasions for interactions with your public: this helps your image/work spread around. You may have a good amount of followers/public waiting for your next post, you may also be good at creating the right hype about it. And ofc, you're good also at what you do, like the main subject of your feed: eg. let's say you're a photographer, you're pretty talented at taking photos; same if you're an astrologer, you're very good at reading charts. But you're also good at how you communicate/share about yourself when you aren't posting about your specific "field". If you're not there yet, I think you mostly need to work on the boring part of this, like learning how to work properly on each platform as all of them have their own rules. It can be really really boring, but if you have the passion and will, and you're ready to say goodbye to holidays for a while... it's worth it. This is also why it's important that you find what works for you.

Ofc, remind yourself of yourself. You're important, you have needs and... it's good to show them to others too. You may at times not share about your lows, and keep them for yourself, but they're part of life as well. You won't lose followers if you do this. I think they'd appreciate you even more. And... having lot of followers won't make your loneliness better. Sure they seem to care about you but, not everyone can stay through ups and downs, they're there mostly for what you give them (find your balance here). Just needed to remind some of you about this. Keep working on yourself, while you also enjoy your time online. Try to not make of it another reason of stress, go with the flow.

I think people see you as very pretty and young. You may seem naive on occasion, kinda childish-like but not in a negative way. People thinks you're cute mostly. I get very feminine and young energy here, no matter what is your gender (if you recognize yourself in any). You may also be a nostalgic person and may like to share events/things from the past, maybe you also like to take photos with polaroids or analog cameras or you add a pretty nostalgic filter/editing to your photos. You may also share inside jokes with your friends or family on social medias.

I think you may have not been that much into social medias at first or you weren't good at using them well, but now you're enjoying them more. You use them mostly to keep in touch with friends, share about your parties/nights out or travels, and every funny event you may happen to be around/join. You may like to post photos/videos taken with your friends indeed. You may end up occasionally posting the wrong stuff by accident like you may share on public some photos you should keep on private and similar but all in all people see you as a funny character. Maybe a little clumsy, but very much pretty and cute. You may also use social medias to too keep yourself updated about celebrities and to gossip with your friends too. I feel like you may be using eg. insta and share pics of your travels, of gifts, shopping/spa days with friends and maybe pics of yourself in beautiful places all taken by your friends. Or maybe by your partner. I get more likely a group of at least 3-4 people tbh but ofc I could be wrong, and it could also be family. I feel some influencer-style vibes here. Kinda aesthetic posts, but more in the sense of the vibe you give through them. Again like, lot of fun and interesting stuff going on in your life. An... autumn-core (does this exist?), cottagecore, travelcore, studycore, whatever brownish-pastels-core you feel like may pertain. Yeah you may be sharing a lot also about your studies those very aesthetically pleasing well written notes or images of you drinking coffee in front of a computer. Since I feel a young energy it may resonate with you still being a student or at the initial stages of a job but ofc it doesn't have to. You may also be studying abroad hence why you share a lot about travels and try to keep in touch with family/friends also through socials and the nostalgic vibe I got in the beginning.

1- When did you start playing Choices? What was the first book you played?

Christmas 2017, I was scrolling FB and saw an ad for Choices featuring The Royal Romance Book 1. I downloaded the app and started reading TRR right away.

2- When and why did you join Choices fandom?

I was hooked on that series and was waiting for a new chapter to release. I was desperate for more and my sister suggested that I try searching Tumblr for fanfiction in 2021.

3- How did you pick your blog name?

Liam was my LI, so I joined his name with mine!

4- Pull up the first post in your archive, and tell us about it!

My very first post was the masterlist to @ao719's series ‘The Invitation’. I found her treasure trove of Liam Rys/TRR stories very quickly! I couldn't get enough!

5- Do you write fanfiction, create fan art, or are you one of those really gifted people who do both?

I write fanfiction. I wish I could draw…the best I can do is create moodboards.

6- How long have you been creating for Choices and for any other fandoms?

I started writing my own stories for Choices pretty much at the same time I found the app. Publishing those stories started with prompting and encouragement from Anitah [@ao719] & Emmy [@txemrn]. I posted my first on October 28, 2022, ‘October Weekend Retreat’. I have also written for ‘Game of Thrones’, ‘Twilight’ & ‘The X-files’. These stories are all published on AO3 with other pseudonyms

7- What is your favorite Choices book, and what is your favorite Choices book to create for?

My favorite book(s) to read and create for: The Royal Romance Series. Favorite = book 3

8- Share your first Choices fanfic or fan art that you posted with us. Do you still like it, or would you change it if you were creating it today?

I do still like it! The changes I would make…I would add more ‘Would You Rather’ questions and dialogue.😁

9- What is your favorite piece of fiction or art that you created?

My favorite: ‘All is Fair in Love & War’ …and I won an art commission (my center pic) for it from CFWC, by ArtbyAinna (IG).

10- Do you have a fic/art that you didn’t expect to be well received, but it was? What about one you expected to do well but found it could use a little more love?

I am always honoured whenever anyone takes the time to read, comment, or share my stories!🥰

11- If you could write only angst, fluff, or smut for the rest of your writing life, which would it be and why?

Definitely angst❣️ I love writing/drama about a group of characters in a series with various sub plots and relationships over time.

12 - Do you ever recognize yourself in any of your MCs or in your writing?

Yes! My OC Sophie Taylor from Marabelle.

13 - What element of writing/art do you struggle with most?

Writing…Definitely 😏 smut! ….but practice makes perfect, right!? 😉

14 - Do you have any neglected work you really want to finish?

Oh geez, so much!? My one drive is well stocked! 😂

15 - If someone you know in real life (who isn’t involved in fandoms) asked to see your work, would you let them? If yes, what would you show them first?

Yes! My sister. No, not necessarily…I know she reads AO3, cuz she posts there too!

16 - Are there any writers (published authors and/or fanfic writers) who influenced your writing? Are there any writers that influence you?

Anitah @ao719, my fellow Liam stan definitely inspired me to write TRR stories here on Tumblr. She is a phenomenal writer!💖

17- Which one of your stories would you most like to see as a movie/series?

Marabelle …it's still a W.I.P. right now and I have so much story to tell!

18- Do you write original fiction or create non-fandom art?

I have started a framework for a novel and have created storyboards for it.

19- What other hobbies do you have?

I love horses and am learning dressage. Reading, writing, politics.

20: BONUS - tell us anything you’d like (if you want to)

I adore royalty in real life and follow news on William & Kate. They toured Canada in 2016. I was in Victoria, BC on vacation when they were here, but I couldn't get anywhere near that area of the city. 🤷‍♀️

That National Geographic leather binding for Yellowstone is fucking Gorgeous!!! (Pardon my Language)

How long have you been binding, and what would you recommend to someone who wants to try it for themselves?

hello and thank you so much!! I worked really hard on that one (and no pardon needed haha)!

I started binding in February of 2021, which means in a few months I'll have reached 4 years. It's been an awesome journey!!

If you'd like to try it for yourself, I'd recommenda few things!

1) You can 100% try out the basics with near free or cheap materials. People typeset in Word or Google Docs or Pages. You can print on printer paper & use regular sewing thread & scavenge board from old books or notebook backs or do a limp leather binding & use no boards at all. You can make paper pamphlets. Any comments I make following this are about my preferences for best results. The most expensive part that cannot be avoided is printing. On the other hand expenses can wildly escalate if you're committing to it; once you are doing leather it becomes somewhat unavoidably expensive.

2) Check out some tutorials from SeaLemon or DAS Bookbinding on YouTube for the physical construction. SeaLemon is really clear for a beginner starting out, but then I'd move to DAS for better technique (DAS also has a beginner series though). I watched DAS Bookbinding videos for three weeks straight before I was able to start, & while that doesn't maybe work out for everyone I do think it gave me a pretty strong basis of understanding for structural techniques. DAS is *really* good at explaining why he thinks you should do something. The structure of the NatGeo bind is basically DAS's video on a rounded & backed bradel binding (but with leather & sewn on recessed cords). There is some good stuff on Tiktok/IG, but watch short-form videos/reels with caution. They move a little fast and I've seen a couple give instructions that can result in structural flaws (not that this is unique to the form, cross-referencing on instructions from any source is a good practice). They are good for if you're looking for a specific technique (particularly modern decorative ones, like cricut use, edge gilding, HTV application). There are also published books you can buy or maybe request through your library, such as Hollander's Introduction to Bookbinding. Renegade Bookbinding Guild runs a whole bunch of technique-specific in-house zoom classes annually.

3) Look to other fanbinders for tutorials on how to format the text (this is because most pro bookbinders do not do both text design & book creation! it's a pretty unique feature of fanbinding). @renegadeguild has some publically provided resources on our website here and more typesetting tutorials for a whole host of softwares (Affinity Publisher is my choice - one time purchase, fuck you very much Adobe InDesign) located in the discord server. Anyone 18+ can join the Discord. The NatGeo inspired book (text & dust jacket) was created in Affinity Publisher.

4) Join a community of fanbinders! It's really lovely. The space has exploded & there are tons of people to be friends with, trade tips, & cheer each other on. I'm part of @renegadeguild and we do a whole bunch of events throughout the year, and we have an in-person retreat every other year. I've met with over 20 different renegaders so far, in three different countries, and it's been such a blast. Definitely the community helps keep up the motivation. Renegade isn't the only community out there though! There's groups more rooted in IG/tiktok circles that have their own discords, plus a number of FB groups. I do think most people who are comfortable on tumblr enjoy Renegade's vibe.

5) While I learned most of what I do online, some things really benefit from in-person learning. If you want to do leather binding I would really recommend trying to take an in-person class. I did two attempts at a leather binding on my own before I decided to hold off until I'd had at least one in-person class. Leather binding can be extremely frustrating, especially when you can easily end up with a book that looks worse than a cloth binding at your same skill level but for double the cost. Imo this is mostly because the leather specific skills like paring, warp management, and assessing a random piece of leather for bookbinding suitability are all pretty tactile experiences, all of which are difficult to assess through a screen and can result in an unpleasantly bulky/stiff/shapeless book if ignored. For example- while this book of mine is a pretty popular post, I don't enjoy holding it and reading it, especially in contrast to the NatGeo bind. Part of this was the material I chose; part was not being able to adhere to the instructions quite well enough; part was just not knowing enough about what I was doing; part is they're different constructions. This might just be a me thing though; I'm sure others have had success with online only tutorials for leather.

6) I'm not going to get into specific tools bc that could be a whole post, but some things are necessary (printer access), some things are necessary depending on style, some things are "makes life easier but only drop the money if it's stopping you from making books out of frustration", some things are just technique-specific tools. Examples - sewing frames are often brought up but are never necessary unless sewing on cords; cricuts & cutting machines are commonly used in fanbinding circles but I don't have one (& don't intend to atm).

7) Don't be shy to offer the author a copy!! Like other fan activities, fanbinding is part of our fandom community ecosystem. Your fanbinding is in communication with the author's story. Giving a bind to the author is a great way of keeping the ecosystem going. I tend to think of binds as a combo of comment, fic rec, and fan art inspired by the fic.

8) Paper grain sounds stupid but it IS IMPORTANT! My personal hierarchy of give-a-fuck for grain: Board grain, spine card grain, endpaper grain, cover paper grain, text block grain, book cloth grain. The only thing I personally sometimes ignore is book cloth grain; but many people will not worry too much about text block paper grain.

Gonna stop there for now. If you've got specific questions or want elaboration, feel free to ask. As with all things, YMMV, this is my own opinions/experience and may not apply in all cases. There's a whole lot of different techniques out there, and it's hard to ever say something is wrong, per se - but I think it's important to understand if a method has an outcome you may want to avoid. Prioritize your goals & adapt for them - what's your goal? Longevity, readability, aesthetics? You might make different choices depending on them. My choices influence the techniques I chose to focus on, the tools I buy, and thus the final aesthetic of my binds.

Schneider Greco, 'Rebecca' of R99, the red feather in Vertin's grey-white checkerboard pattern world.

First 2 chapters of R99 might not be perfect, but they piqued my interest enough to motivate me to practice drawing teenagers in order to properly draw Schneider. Even she's gone for 1.5 years (GL server) many players still remember her and wait for her to come back, that alone prove how influential she is.

She's 'Rebecca' of R99.

Game R99 is approaching its 1.5 year anniversary. Initially, I planned to draw a short 4-page comic about Vertin and Schneider based on a plot I had in mind to celebrate. However, I've been really busy lately (not busy drawing other things, just lots of physical labor. I haven't even finished the main story of the latest game patch yet = ="). So, I've decided to draw a single illustration instead.

I've always drawn adult characters. It wasn't until I played this game and wanted to create fan art that I realized how bad I am at drawing teenagers. (The Schneider drawing I did 1.5 years ago looked like a seductress, completely off-image.) This made me practice drawing teenagers so that I could draw Schneider properly. The result of that practice is what you see in this picture. I really have to thank Schneider - otherwise, I probably still wouldn't be able to draw teenagers well. I hope my current Schneider looks pretty enough in the eyes of Schneider fans.

OK SO... Everyone knows I do RP. And I do RP on FB... And something I love about Roleplay on FB is that in that side of the RP community, there exists these pages/groups known as "Literary Projects".

Someone creates a page/group with a idea in mind (Could be a project about idk... Zombie Apocalypse, or Cartoon Characters, or whatever you want) and people join to meet new people, RP and write about the project.

And a friend created their own project inspired on DnD and other Fantasy - Mediaeval features and... Guess who joined?? Me, of course.

They accepted OCs and Canon Characters... I joined with a Canon Character... And OF COURSE I joined with goddam Torbek LMAO

SO.... USUALLY PPL JOIN WITH CHARACTERS LIKE---

Idk, from Arcane/LoL or from some Anime or whatever the fuck that are conveniently attractive or really popular at the moment and shit... And then there's me, a stinky silly bugbear that is basically lost af in this new place (The Project takes place in a magic forest btw) because Fey shenanigans LOL

And IT'S SO MUCH FUN BECAUSE at the end of the season, the admin of the page/group CHECKS THE WRITINGS (Each writing gets you points!! You need points to stay in the project and get some other cool stuff lol), and gives you a final review with the total points you get... Why?? Because at the end of the season they not only give you points but

1) They make a post on the page with the "Winners" of the season (1st, 2nd and 3rd place), aka the ones that got the most points.

2) they make a customised presentation for the page featuring the character that won the 1st place AND---

Planet Naming Conventions In The Star Trek Universe (How To)

While I was doing my usual scrolling routine in social media oulets like Facebook, I have found an interesting post in one of the FB pages related to Star Trek.

In the FB page, the administrator narrated in a post an experience of listening to a podcaster and a youtuber complaining about the name of certain planets in the Star Trek universe.

In particular, the format of a name followed by a roman number. Just like Ceti Alpha V and Ceti Alpha VI.

Indeed, this is a common practice of the franchise since its failed pilot episode, The Cage (presented in season one episodes The Menagerie, parts I and II). On it the crew of the USS Enterprise decided to explore a planet named Talos IV after received a distress signal from it.

More than common, it seems to be a standard practice for most of the planets.

It made me curious about finding the official rules of the franchise, if such as those rules exist.

My search for data at Memory Alpha was fruitless. But making a search by browsing about the subject led me to two links with a lot of interesting information at forums of Stack Exchange and Reddit.

From the discussions of some users and the explanation of the FB page administrator, I have to assume this is the rule of thumb for planet naming in the Star Trek universe.

Star Trek's planets naming conventions

According to the United Federation of Planets:

When a new group of planets were discovered, they are given the name of the star they orbit followed by a roman number in ascending order from the planet closest to the star to the farthest.

As an example of this, let's take the star and planets of our Solar System. The star name is Sol, hence Earth have to be Sol III and Mars have to be Sol IV.

In addition, when the race of a given planet made the first contact, the Federation will recognize the names the race gave to their system's planets.

As an example, there are planets like Earth, Vulcan, Romulus and Andoria.

A real-world example

Here on planet Earth, organizations as the International Astronimical Union are in charge of putting names to planets or other kind of celestial bodies.

Let's take for example an exoplanet (planet outside of our solar system), HD 189733 b.

The 'HD' part of the name means for the person or research group who found it. In this case, it stands for the Henry Draper Catalogue. The numerical string '189743' stands for the number in the catalog in the order it was found.

The lower case 'b' part respond to the order of its position in the star system. It represents it is the planet closest to the orbit of the star. Other planets of this system must use the lower case letters 'c', 'd', 'e' or 'f' in order of the closest to the farthest they are in orbit of the star.

The upper case letter 'A' is used exclusively for the identifiying the star. Also upper case letters 'B' and 'C' are used only to identify stars in case it is binary or trinary star systems.

An application of what I learned

To illustrate what I learned about the naming convention used by the franchise of Star Trek, I created a star system and for its name, I named the system's star with the name of Cressidia. A very beautiful name it came to my mind.

As you can see, I named Cressidia I to the planet closest to the star and left roman numbers II to VI to the second to the sixth planets of the system respectively.

Food for thought

Names for star can be inspired in every single kind of mythology or influential culture of the World.

If you are a soft science fiction or fantasy writer, you can name stars as you wish, just in case your work does not need for any kind of scientific accuracy.

In case you have to write for an established sci-fi franchise, you better have to made research of its naming conventions.

The Star Trek and Star Wars universes have a lot of resources like star maps you have to read before starting to work on your story.

There is a fantastic material to read more about star names. You can learn about the meaning of star names by reading the book, Star-Names and Their Meanings by Richard Hinckley Allen.

It was published in 1899, making it hard to find in the printed format, but thanks to the people of the Internet Archive, it is available in many different kinds of ebook.

This post was triggered by an anon moving around in these spaces trying to explain away the hickey/bite moment as something trivial. I will save my thoughts on the hickey for the end of this post.

First of all, to that anon- Get off your high horse. Not being a shipper doesn't make you superior. You are probably one of those cringey people cancelling queer armies on tw!tter these days. Now readers, sip your drink as you read this short think piece-

OT7 Captains in the fandom bubble:-

I really don't get the superiority complex of so called OT7s who love to live inside this cute little bubble they have created for themselves or as they call it nowadays:- " a curated tl". Cancelling people everyday and actually driving people away from the fandom. Every bio says "multis, solos, shippers dni". What are you afraid of? Little pixels? I have personally followed solo fbs of all members and boy the things I have found! They can get extreme at times, but it takes 2 minutes to fact-check their claims and draw your own conclusion.

I follow wholesome ship pages too, they are a great way to not miss out cute moments between various duos. If you are blocking them out, you'll be swept into whatever the OT7 decide the important interactions are. 🤷

Have y'all watched 'The Social Dilemma' on Netflix? I would actually want all bts fans to give it a watch. A very prominent tech figure admitted that she follows a good number of Tw!tter accounts that disagree with her to ensure that she gets to see all sides and all opinions. When you deliberately 'curate' a timeline to feed only your opinions, to make a 'safe' space that doesn't trigger you, without letting new thoughts penetrate it..THAT! That's the beginning of a cult.

Army is not a cult for defending BTS or for calling out billboard and other big authorities, but army is indeed a cult with the way they move against people within the fandom.

I said what I said.

With a curated 'OT7 captain' timeline, you start internalising things about the artists that the people you follow want to believe:-

1. All true army are OT7 and non shippers. 💫💫

Sure some of them are. But biases exist for a reason, right? If you think people don't run their bias's playlist more than the other 6, you are so deluded. Spotify wrapped'23 was a prime example. With the solo era, the rise of solo fanbases was unavoidable.

2. Your favourites are spotless, impeccable people. 💌💌💌

They are so not. They date, they make mistakes, they hurt people (like we all do). Heck, they might even offend certain groups of people, unknowingly or knowingly. Being ignorant is also a flaw.

3. Everything they say on camera is true.🙊🙊🙊

Everything they say on camera is what they want you to know. As Park Jimin of BTS, as Kim Namjoon of BTS and so on. And yes, your perception of them should be built based on their words alone, but it doesn't mean that you purposefully stay blind in a way that serves your personal projections onto the members. As Jimin once said " please take our words as they are"(Festa 2022). Read between the lines, and you get- "please do not make assumptions about us, please do not project past or future narratives onto us." No matter how much it makes BTS look like a saint, DO NOT paint them as perfect human beings just because they are your idols.

Once you get into the fandom bubble, you start rejecting all opinions that threaten to puncture that perfect bubble. In that process, you end up never getting to know about how some member promotions were horribly managed, how company delayed certain stuff, the obvious company agenda and different business strategies for different members. It's not about victimising members, but calling out the company when they make obvious mistakes. You do not see when hate against a particular member gets aggravated to the point it affects streams and sales.

And musical preference? The way the fandom just collectively decided that if you hate any song except 'ON ft Sia", you are basically an anti. I have no words.. I'll come out and say: I don't like DNA. SORRY JIMIN. Sure it's a great concert song, or maybe at a party, but it's never making it to my down-time personal playlists. Cancel me?

Top Social Artist?

This is my personal opinion. BTS having a huge presence on social media is both a boon and a curse. While it ensures that new fans are made everyday, the bts social media presence is an uncontrolled monster right now. Millions of insta, YT channels- most of them spreading a superficial image of BTS. It's for this reason, there are so many 'fans' out there who just love BTS for the few members and their visuals. I can guarantee you that they don't even know how streaming works, but they'll be sure to have an insta name like "mrs.jeon jungkook". If you made it to this part, I don't need to tell you how certain ships inducted their shippers through these very channels, spreading misinfo about the group dynamics and a completely manipulated idea of the boys, as if it's not real life, but some shitty bl drama.

While the company is obviously doing nothing about this mess, it is YOUR duty to focus on what's important as a fan and participate in projects that plan to counteract this mess. ( Of course only if you have time)

So..what does the hickey have to do with all this?

When you finally grow out of your perfect pure breed OT7 agenda, who considers this group of men a picture perfect family who can do no sin, you'll be ready to view the hickey/bite mark as a normal functioning member of the society who's in touch with reality.

Let's say the hickey/bite does not actually mean anything intimate in a romantic sense. Sure. Even I think it was probably not an exclusively romantic thing. And this is coming from someone who ships them, but I do not see them as 2 people who are dating each other (because I don't claim to know their personal lives).

An older person biting the neck of a younger person long enough to leave a mark is NOT A NORMAL LEVEL of skinship. For friends, for family, for brothers. And this goes for Korea as well as at a global level. Not only k-jikookers but also k-armies had raised eyebrows when that happened. If you didn't raise your eyebrow at this, you need to go out more, have a social life, hang out with long term friends, idk.

But I'm sure if it was a man and a woman, you would have already declared that they are f@cking.

If you have observed jikook through the years, they have had an abnormal level of skinship that even surpasses skinship within their own group. Reminds me of the Butter photoshoot behind, where JK's hands so naturally slid under JM's crop top, like it was a usual thing. Now if one of them reacted differently or in a goofy way, I'd still brush it under the rug. But what had me scratching my head was the indifference. How close do 2 people have to be, for someone to SEARCH for familiar skin to touch?! Let's not forget how JK always touches JM's neck like a habit, massaging, holding, or just caressing, usually a little inside the collar.

Now if they were a man and a woman, you would have already declared that they are f@cking.

If you don't at the very least, acknowledge that it's an abnormally high level of skinship, and that jikook are at the very least, a highly interdependent, symbiotic, close, 2 souls-1 body entity, the closest duo in bangtan..then you are the delulu here. 🫵

I would advice such anons to stop visiting shipping spaces if you are bringing nothing to the table. (As I always say, opposing views are always welcome as long as you bring receipts and not hate). Maybe spend some time talking to real life people, couples, friends, you know?

Creation of the Pan Flag

I was going to do this for Pride weekend but you know, life, so: I wanted to talk about a thing. I created the #pansexual flag, a thread.

Back in 2010, I was 20 and tumblr was my main social playground. I was active in various spheres, and I was learning.

I'd been IDing as bi since I was 13, but moved away from bi as an identifier and took up pansexual soon after discovering the term, bc I felt it fit better.

This is mainly bc the simplicity of pan being defined as attraction to any/all genders was extremely appealing to someone really coming into this new way of expressing their orientation like tumblr allowed. It felt right for how I wanted to relate to and express my orientation.

The bi communities I had access too often saw heavy discussion related to attraction parametres of "bi" - convos at the time I didn't really recognise for what they were: bi people working hard to define bisexuality on their terms, tackling intra-community transphobia, (cont)

(cont) and developing within a social space where more expansive gender experiences and identities were becomes more well known and understood.

My switch of labels was about finding something that felt truly right for me, but it would be dishonest to pretend the decision wasn't impacted by the politics and "discourse" I was involved in at the time.

There was no popular pan flag, and the offerings were frankly... ugly. To me. Various shades of purple, P letters, P symbols incorporating gender symbols, infinity symbols. They didn't feel consistent with the other pride flags.

So on a whim, I decided to design one. I designed it to be pretty, honestly. That was a primary function of it, to have s/t I liked to represent my identity. No point pretending I was trying to be super innovative and deep: I wanted something pretty to plaster on my blog.

Pink, yellow, blue. A strong magenta, a strong gold yellow, and a light cerulean. The pink not too purple, the yellow not too bright, the blue not too cyan. Hex FF1B8D, FFD900, 1BB2FF.

Pink and blue, because of their gendered traditions, and yellow, a generally non-gendered colour, to represent nonbinary folks etc.

I created it anonymously, on a side blog away from my main handle. I was already running LGBTLaughs which was proving very popular in tumblr and didn't want to monopolise queer blog space, I suppose.

I didn't expect it to take off. It proved popular on tumblr, and for a few years the flag kept getting added to the Wikipedia 'pansexual' page and then removed. Eventually it snowballed and ended up in use well beyond tumblr.

As I've got older I've realised a lot of people would be interested in knowing this part of modern queer history, and more about modern flag creation in general, and that it's worth documenting. Not for credit so much as for posterity.

So, that's that. The first time I saw a pansexual flag in real life at my city's Pride parade I may have had a little cry.
