“Who is this?” I ask, making eye contact with Sam.
The line goes dead.
“Who was it?” Sam questions with a serious tone.
“I think it was a prank call. It's fine” I reply, blocking the number, “Let's just get home.”
We get home and I go straight to my room. My body falls flat onto the comforter, face planted in my pillow. My Freddy makeup runs off onto my pillow and I just leave it. I debated sleeping in my costume. I am not in the mood.
I do, however, take my shirt off. I catch myself in the mirror by my bed. I stare at my torso. I run my middle finger down the scar that runs from my collar bone to my abdomen.
“Are you this pretty on the inside?”
Amber's voice echoed in my skull. Every muscle in my body tenses as I remember the feeling of the steel dragging through my torso. Amber's hands on my throat, pinning me to the floor. I remember how it felt to have the blood spill out of me. I just lied there, feeling myself leave.
My bedroom door swung open, “Y/n!”
I quickly grabbed my shirt off the floor and covered myself, “Ethan, what the fuck?!”
Ethan's hand flew to cover his eyes, “Oh, my god. I’m- I'm so- oh, God. I’m sorry.”
“It's fine, just close the door,” I say and he slams the door, “And knock!”
“Can you come out here?!” Ethan yells through the door.
“Why?”
“Y/n, hurry!” Mindy called out.
I threw my shirt over my head and rushed out the door, still tugging my shirt over my body. “What's up, Min?”
Mindy points to the TV. There's a new reporter discussing a murder. All I could really understand was:
“Blackmore students.”
“Brutally murdered.”
“Ghostface.”
I look at Tara, then Sam. I can tell what Sam is thinking.
“Sam-”
“Pack a bag. We leave in 10.”
“God, damn it.”
Tara and I chased Sam into the kitchen, calling after her.
“We’re leaving the city,” Sam tells us, taking a knife from the holder.
“Wait, let’s talk about this for a second, this may have nothing to do with us!” Tara tries to rationalize with Sam.
I said, “Yeah, I saw, like, 15 people wearing that mask tonight.”
“Are you serious?” Sam looks at us like we’re out of our minds.
“It’s a big city!”
“This isn’t a coincidence! You knew him!” Sam yells at Tara.
Tara rolls her eyes, “Barely.”
I rubbed my face with my hands. I sighed in annoyance.
“Chad, Mindy, back me up,” Tara begged our friends.
Chad looked at Mindy, “It is a little bit…”
“Close to home” Mindy finished.
“I’m not going fucking anywhere,” I told them, “I’m tired of being scared of these fuckers.”
Sam looked at me, “You should be scared.”
Tara turned to Quinn, “Quinn, your dad’s a cop, right? Can you call him and see what’s going on?” Tara looked back and me and Sam, “Before you make the unilateral to abandon our college education and flee the fucking state!”
“Again” I muttered. I really missed California.
Quinn called her dad. As we waited, Sam’s phone rang. Everyone stared at her phone, waiting for her to answer. I peaked over her shoulder. It was Gale.
“Why did everyone just freak out when her phone rang?” Ethan asked, genuine confusion on his face.
“Oh, E. You do not pay attention when I talk, huh?” I said to him.
“You gotta keep up my dude” Anika adds.
“Sam? My dad wants to talk to you” Quinn said, handing Sam her phone.
The detective tells Sam that he needs me and her to come to the station. He said he needed to ask us some questions. I was now shaking. It felt like I had a scar on my brain from last year’s massacre, and someone just cut through the scar tissue. I felt sick knowing that this was involving us again.
I followed Sam out to the front of the apartment. Tara is close behind.
“Tara, no. Get back inside, lock the door” Sam demands.
“We’ll be back soon” I reassured her.
“Really? Now you don’t wanna stick together?” Tara says.
Sam’s phone rings again. The number belongs to Richie Kirsch.
“What the fuck?” Tara mutters.
Sam replies, “I never deleted his contact. It’s coming from his number.”
“Sam, don’t answer that. Sam-”
She doesn’t listen to me and answers the call. She leaves various threats to whoever is on the other line.
“The last people who tried to fuck with us ended up dead.”
As she continues to speak to the potential murderer like an idiot, I stand and look around the streets. I pay attention to people talking on the phone. Before anything else happens, Tara is grabbed from behind. By someone in a Ghostface mask. Tara shoves him into the bushes, I kick him before I run. Sam has us go into the nearby bodega.
“Please help us! We’re being attacked!”
“He’s gonna fucking kill us! Call the fucking cops!”
The Ghostface enters the shop. A guy in line steps up to him, trying to be tough. He’s brutally stabbed and killed in front of us. The shop goes crazy, everyone is screaming and running. The store clerk grabs a shotgun from behind the counter and shoots at the Ghostface.
“Go out the back!” he yells at us.
I sprint towards the door, “It’s locked!”
“Keys! We need the keys!” Tara shouts at him.
The store clerk fumbles with his keys and the Ghostface approaches. We scream at him, but it’s too late. He’s impaled multiple times. The Ghostface takes his gun. He cocks it and shoots in our direction. The bullet barely grazes my shoulder, but it stings like a son of a bitch.
Sam has us duck in an aisle. He shoots at the freezers behind us. We sit in silence, quivering. I’m squeezing Tara’s hand so hard my knuckles turn white. With my other hand I grip my shoulder that’s leaking blood onto my Freddy costume. Tara’s shaking and so am I. I bite my lip to stop myself from crying. Sam grabs an empty beer can and throws it in the opposite direction. Once he’s distracted, we tip the shelf over and crush him. Sam grabs us by our wrists and drags us out of the bodega and into the street. Cop cars and an ambulance are waiting.
I sit in the ambulance as the EMT stitches my wound. She said it wouldn’t take more than a few minutes. I bit my lip again to get over the stinging pain. I try my best to not watch as the need and thread closes my bloody wound. It wasn’t a huge one, but she said it would most likely leave a scar. Of course. As soon as I’m patched up Detective Bailey takes us to the station.
The crime scene photos lay on the table in front of us. Sam sat next to Tara and I sat on the other side of her. I placed my head on her shoulder and grabbed her hand. Tara has been my best friend since grade school. When she was attacked by Amber last year, I thought it was all my fault. I thought it was because of my dad. I’d always been close to Sam, too. She was like an older sister. She always told me what to do, whether I wanted her to or not. She used to snitch on me to my mother all the time. Our moms were good friends, they knew each other’s secret. Mine and Sam’s secret.
Detective Bailey finally entered the room. He sat down and placed a Ghostface mask on the table. I looked away from it.
“This was found next to the body at the apartment crime scene,” Bailey told us, “DNA says it belonged to someone named Richie Kirsch.”
I looked at Sam and Tara, they looked at me.
“Does that ring a bell?”
Sam answered for us, “We’re familiar with him.”
“But the one that attacked us had a different mask on,” Tara added, “It was kinda more beat up. Like it was older.”
I nodded in agreement.
Bailey cleared his throat, “Uh, I gotta ask. Do you have alibis for earlier tonight?”
“I was at a party with my friends,” Tara responded.
I answered, “Uh, I was with Tara. At the party.”
Sam gave her alibi of her therapist’s office, “And then I met Tara and Y/n at the party. Where I tased someone.”
Bailey gives her a concerned look and I put my head in my hands in defeat.
“Unrelated.”
Sam asks him how he even ended up with our case. He explains that he was offered it because it involves Quinn. He asks us some more questions. Sam’s ID and my social security card were found next to the body at the apartment.
“Wait, this asshole has my social security number?” I ask, “I’m gonna k-”
“Y/n” Tara interrupts me before I finish.
“So if the man that attacked you did steal your license and your social security and plant it next to the body, it’d probably be someone close to you.”
We go over our friends. Detective Bailey clears Quinn immediately. He asks if we know of anyone that might want to target the three of us.
“Not anyone who’s still alive,” Tara says.
“We’re not easy targets,” I noted.
Another officer peaks into the room. He says that the FBI is here and is taking over jurisdiction. Bailey gets up and leaves. Sam sighs loudly. The other officer lets us out and hands us our belongings. When we finally exit the investigation room, we see Kirby.
Kirby Reed was a victim/survivor of the Ghostface killings in 2011. She went to high school with Sam, but I never really knew her personally.
Kirby and Sam hug. She acknowledges me and Tara as she pulls away.
“You’re the FBI?” Sam asks
Kirby nods, “Mhm.”
“You guys know each other?” Bailey asks.
Sam explains how we know Kirby. Then, Kirby talks to Bailey about the jurisdiction of the case. I excuse myself as my phone starts ringing.
I walk into an empty room and answer my phone, “Hey, Ethan.”
“Hey, I just wanted to check on you. I heard you got shot? Are you okay?” Ethan’s voice comes through the speaker, laced with concern.
I laugh, “Yeah, E, I’m good. It’s barely a flesh wound. We’re still at the station, but we’ll leave pretty soon. I have a class at 9, so I need to get out of here fast.”
It was probably about 4AM when we got into the station, and now it was 7AM.
“You’re going to school? You’re just ignoring all of this?”
“I can’t let some stupid dickhead in a mask ruin my entire life. I’ve been running from Ghostfaces my whole life.”
There was no sound from Ethan for a few seconds.
“Can we get lunch then?” he asked, “So I can check-in with you. Make sure you’re dealing with everything okay?”
“You’re very sweet. Yes, we can have lunch. Just text me where. I gotta go now, bye.”
I hung up. Ethan was the most worried person I knew. He was a sweetheart, and I tried my best to help him out. When our friends made fun of him, even as a joke, I made them quit. I could tell that some things got to him and he didn’t deserve that. We’d gotten pretty close in the six months we’d known each other.
“Y/n?” Sam entered the room I was in, “Let’s go.”

Sorry for all the asks lately 😅 but do you have any head cannons about Scully being director of the bureau? Also your gifset is beautiful ❤️
Thank you so much, loaf! To lay the groundwork, Scully being Director of the FBI fits into my AU where there’s no baby at the end of S11, which I illustrate in my fic Crumbs. I reference Scully wanting to go back to medicine but having been suddenly offered a position as the head of the bureau’s Laboratory Division, which she took. (Mulder left and got a PhD in Psychology just to have something to do with his time other than troll around for X-Files between lectures at universities in the area and at the FBI academy, which I reference in my Director ficlet.)
Essentially, through a statistically improbable but not impossible series of events, between taking that position as head of the Lab Division in 2016 and assuming the role of Director in 2023, she rose up the ranks. Head of Lab retired and Scully was a very easily-qualified candidate to push through. Then the Executive Assistant Director of the Science and Technology Department suddenly died, and Scully was pushed through to get the job. It’s not until she got put on the shortlist for Director after the previous one was arrested for a federal offense that she found out Skinner (an Assistant Director like her) and Kersh (Deputy Director, which is the position just below Director) were the ones pushing for her promotions. But still—statistically improbable that a retirement and death and arrest happened at the precise times for Scully to irrefutably have enough experience necessary for each position. Or at least enough not to cast doubt on her abilities.
It’s because she’s trustworthy. She charms people. Sometimes they try to use her or bribe her (politics, after all) but she holds fast, and that’s why Kersh and Skinner pushed so hard for her. All this to say that sometimes Scully’s a little out of her depth and overwhelmed and constantly seems 100% done with her job, but every time Mulder suggests stepping down after the next presidential election, she shuts him down immediately.
She loves getting her hands dirty, although she doesn’t really have time to do autopsies, but she manages to finagle enough time in her schedule to teach a forensic pathology class every few months. All the secretaries love Mulder, of course, because he sends her cheesy letters, especially with pictures of their dog Pequod inside. (Yes. Pequod. The name of the ship in Moby Dick. It was Mulder’s attempt at being funny while sticking to Scully’s dog-naming. Not originally part of the AU but I’m adding it now.)
It was definitely an interesting interaction when she ran into one of the Congressmen who interrogated her while Mulder was trapped in a gulag, though. But they were a representative in the House, and the vote for her was in the Senate, so there wasn’t much he could say.
Mulder takes great pride in making a game out of his Valentine’s day flowers that he sends to her office. He spaces them out throughout the day and sends clues with them to hint at which restaurant he’s taking her to. (Never any fancy ones with reservations required—she’s had to cancel too many times for those, but he always makes it special for the occasion regardless.)
Jackson sends his holiday pictures to her office ever since she told him she framed one for her desk. He sends a copy to the house, too. The first one was just him and his dog dressed up in festive clothes, and Scully still has that one in her office, too. That framed photo of her and Mulder back when they were on the X-Files is also in her office.
She and Mulder text throughout the day to stay in touch, which is especially important due to how often she works late. But she always makes sure to be home around six unless there’s a true emergency.

Sometimes I Dream of Blorbos This time with the added horror of TAXES
So a while back I had this weird dream. I was sitting at a table sobbing. before me a single page titled 420 Easy Tax Form.
Behind me Moon is rubbing my back trying to explain to me how to fill out the form.
Finally I calm down and me and Moon slowly fill out the form, then i get to the question. "how many lbs of human flesh have you consumed this tax period? There is now a 30% tax on all human meat"
at this point sun shows up and sees the question on the tax form and says "Well that's going to be a problem"
Time skip to later in the kitchen
Moon is yelling at Sun about how he needs to stop eating people because it is simply costing to much and that we where fucked collectively for the tax season.
Now I'm tiered and could care less about this so i go to the fridge to get some milk for my coffee. I open it. The fridge is completely stuffed full of Safeway styrofoam and plastic wrap meat containers that contain the cheep rubber human limb props you get at a place like spirit Halloween. There is no milk, there is no room. it is all just human 'meat' and i realize how financially fucked we are.
I proceed to join Moon in yelling at Sun tell i wake up.
The most hilarious part to me is 1) eating people is perfectly legal in whatever world my dream took place in 2) Sun not Moon eats people 3) that despite having taken forensic science in highschool and having watched an autopsy, along with also doing practical effects from my time as a theater kid, this was not realistic looking gore. it was clearly fake and rubber and made badly. 4) Some how me Sun and Moon are able to file joint taxes? are we married? are they my dependents?

3. 6, 10, 22, 23, 53, 54, 63, 74
3. Favourite Assistant?
Take a wild guess - Ema Skye. The girl who literally inspired my career. (Worth it, by the way. Majoring in forensic science was so much fun.) I have a soft spot for people whose detective careers are inspired by saving someone or wanting to correct an injustice from their past.
6. Favourite Antagonist (in the role of the antagonist! e.g Edgeworth in AA1 counts but only in AA1.)
Okay, I really like Edgeworth in AA1. A whole lot. I love how his trauma and his strong sense of justice manifest in antagonistic qualities to Phoenix, who also has a strong sense of justice but chooses blind faith over prosecuting criminals. Edgeworth is a good person but can't do what Phoenix does. "My father was taken from me, and you want me to defend criminals? I'm sorry, Wright, but I'm not that good of a person!"
I headcanon Edgeworth as autistic. I love seeing him being so elegant and dramatic in court, easily making a fool out of Phoenix, and then seeing him outside of court for the first time and realizing he's actually socially awkward. I love that this game makes you defend him and it's like pulling teeth to get him to agree. Just. AA1 Edgeworth is incredible.
10. Favourite trial from all the games?
Case 1-4. I watch an entire playthrough of it at least once a year on Christmas as tradition. I can recite the beginning dialogue from memory. As I said previously:
Tumblr media
22. Your OTP?
Not to steal your answer but Justicykes. Particularly because of the comics done by tumblr user shinyv, like these:
And the art done by tumblr user ticcytx:
I think their dynamic is incredible. So much chemistry going on. I really love energetic girl x more stoic guy pairings.
Runner-ups include Franmaya and Vanlock (mostly for their divorced vibes).
23. Your BROTP?
Sebastian and the girls chat.
I don't know if I can choose, but I really like Sebastian and Kay, Iris and Gina, and Susato and Iris (they're basically sisters). There's probably more I'm missing.
53. Your personal dumbest moment while playing?
In recent memory, I was playing the DLC case for Dual Destinies while my boyfriend was watching. There is a point about how far the victim fell. A witness claimed the victim died by being launched up into the air and then falling 30 ft into the pool full of water. The victim's autopsy report says he fell 65 ft. My logic was that he was launched up 30 ft + fell down 30 ft, and 60 ft is not 65 ft. ... My boyfriend had to remind me upward launch distance doesn't count toward falling down distance.
54. The moment you felt the smartest while playing?
There are a lot of times where I figure out the murder method pretty early on. I can't remember one in particular.
63. Favourite quote?
Herlock Sholmes: "Great detectives are wont to lie."
74. Character you would hug?
Most of them tbh. But if I had to choose one, Maya Fey. Girl has been THROUGH IT and rarely gets to be vulnerable because she's putting on a strong face for Pearl.

Mastermind-Chapter 1/9
Chapter Rating: GA (Full work is E) Joint work with @TofuttiM on Twitter Read it here on A03
Once upon a time, the planets and the fates
And all the stars aligned
You and I ended up in the same room
At the same time
-Lyrics by Taylor Swift
Dana Scully pulled on the door of the darkened lecture hall quietly, in hopes she wouldn’t disrupt the talk she was thirty minutes late for. She hadn’t had time to change, still in her scrubs from a busy day in the Quantico morgue.
She was a Forensic Investigation Instructor at the FBI academy at Quantico, helping cadets learn about the insights that can be gained through autopsies. She was widely regarded as a genius on the topic, despite only being about one year removed from the academy herself. She was a natural, and could easily determine significant clues from autopsies that her colleagues missed. She was so good at it, in fact, she feared she would be forced to stay in the role for the duration of her career and she wasn’t sure it was something she wanted to do long term.
Dana took pride in being on time, but at the end of her long, strenuous day she was cornered by a cadet who was having a panic attack, concerned they couldn’t cut it at the FBI. As one of few female instructors, this seemed to happen all too often to her. The cadets seemed afraid of the mostly grumpy male instructors. She gladly accepted her role as “part-time therapist”; even if it meant arriving late to the lecture at hand.
All Academy instructors were required to attend these monthly lectures, featuring various topics and department heads from FBI headquarters. The lectures allowed the instructors to stay in touch with the current trends and best practices at the agency, affording them the opportunity to better prepare their cadets.
Adjusting her eyes to the dark room, she dropped to a seat in the last row and groaned as her back cried out after a day of standing on her feet.
When she sat down, she saw: A man speaking into the microphone. He was tall, of athletic build, dark brown hair and handsome. Very handsome , she thought. It appears she’d missed the actual lecture and he was now taking questions.
“...Homology is very important to consider. If you have similar crimes, you can assume similar offenders. In theory, if you’ve solved one, although the victims and offenders may be unrelated, you benefit from assessing those similarities.”
“Can you talk about your profile for catching Monte Propps?” an audience member asked at a microphone near the front of the room.
Dana remembered how the D.C. metro area was paralyzed in fear as a dozen strange deaths occurred over the holidays several years ago. She’d been in medical school at the time. This guy was involved in that case? She wondered to herself, her interest peaked.
“I was at Oxford my senior year and I wrote a monograph about serial killers and the occult. Once I was assigned to Violent Crimes that monograph became helpful in catching him as we realized how mysterious some of the details of the killings were. The killer was using a magic trick to lure victims, we were able to piece together a better profile of him, once we connected his crimes to his interest in the occult. The Occult; now that is an interesting topic,” he paused, seeming to collect his thoughts.
Dana was impressed that an agent so young had such a big impact on such a critical case.
The speaker continued, “You have to keep yourself open to extreme possibilities as an investigator. You won’t find the truth if you’re only concentrating on the concrete or scientific ‘hard evidence’,” he gestured in air quotes.
“That’s crazy, science always leads to the truth,” Dana said out loud, instantly covering her mouth with her hand in embarrassment at her outburst. With relief, she realized no one else heard her, since she was in a corner alone. She giggled to herself.
The lecturer continued, “Maybe lab results aid in the conviction, but the agent, a good agent, would utilize profiling, emotive reasoning and unconventional creativity to find the perpetrator…”
Her hushed outburst continued, “Creativity?!? You must be joking.” She glanced around again and realized no one was paying any attention to her.
Her heart began to race as she realized she was having a one-sided debate with the lecturer and he didn’t even know she existed! She leaned forward in her chair, placing her elbows on her knees cupping her chin attentively, curious what the lecturer would say next.
“Currently, the work I do involves cases that are deemed unexplained or unsolvable. You aren’t going to solve those wielding a scalpel or through the lens of a microscope.”
“You would if I was wielding a scalpel,” Dana whispered in challenge.
Then as if taking a cue from the lecturer's last sentence, Jack Willis, Dana's ex-boyfriend and ex-instructor, stepped to the audience microphone. “I know you were asked to speak mainly about profiling, but can you enlighten us a little bit more about some of the cases you’ve encountered in your new role? I’ve heard some of it is… spooky ,” Jack chuckled.
Jack, a senior instructor, was no stranger to intimidating people. He seemed to rather enjoy making people uncomfortable. The lecturer was clearly on Jack’s radar and the room seemed to erupt in laughter at Jack’s “joke”. Dana was unsure if the comment was lost on her while everyone else seemed to understand the punch line. Leave it to Jack to be a bit of a dick to the guest lecturer, probably intimidated by the younger, more handsome man, who had already made such an important mark in his career.
She eyed the lecturer for any reaction but saw him good naturedly laugh with the audience. However, she wondered if a man who was so passionate was secretly offended by the teasing; calling his work spooky.
“Well, without going into a lot of details, I’ve had some cases about cryptids, like the chupacabra..”
“It’s a coyote with mange,” she said in her one-sided conversation with him.
Unfazed by some of the now odd looks and uncomfortable stares from the audience, he continued to speak, “About alien abduction…”
“It’s not aliens, it’s always humans abducting humans,” she replied.
“About stigmatics…”
“Fake!” she almost yelled, but caught herself.
“Unidentified flying objects…”
That got another laugh from the crowd and she saw the lecturer rub his hand with his face and smirk.
She didn’t laugh, feeling empathy for this passionate man, but continued her one sided rebuttal, “Top secret Military aircraft.”
“Clairvoyant… in fact clairvoyants can be very helpful in connecting an investigator to the things you can’t see with the human eye.”
“I can see so much with a microscope that you and a clairvoyant can’t see,” Dana sighed, rolling her eyes.
In the dark lecture hall, Dana was in a trance, she felt like she was having a personal debate with him, all the while the lecturer had no idea she even existed. Her brain was on fire, as she was effectively using all the science and physics that she’d learned to counter his points like a game of chess; It was kind of silly and she blushed at the thought.
Who is he? She wondered. Dana didn’t really believe in things like love at first sight or destiny but she couldn’t deny she felt incredibly drawn to him. She felt as though she was somehow perfectly designed to match with him; her Yin to his Yang.
Another attendee stepped to the microphone, positioned in the middle of the lecture hall. “I like to ask all the lecturers about partnerships, do you work with a partner? How do you balance the relationships effectively with your co-agents and superiors?”
The lecturer chuckled and took a sip of water from a glass sitting on a table next to him. “Look, I'm probably the worst person to ask about that. No, I don’t have a partner right now although there are talks about someone else joining my department. I did have a partner once, Reggie, that I worked well with in Violent Crimes, but my most recent partner; she and I didn’t part amicably. Currently, I report to a number of superiors; one, notably, is Assistant Director Walter Skinner, and I respect him. I may just be someone that works better alone.”
Dana was impressed with his candor and before she could even think, her subconscious thought came out of her mouth, “A lone wolf, huh…not if I have anything to say about it.”
The lecturer smiled awkwardly and ran his fingers through his hair. She thought again how good looking he was and realized he was a bit shy despite his impressive career. He was unlike anyone she’d crossed paths with at the FBI; or in her life, for that matter. He was a heap of contradictions; accomplished but insecure, gracious but opinionated, young but wise, gregarious but prefers to work alone.
“Well it seems my time is up. I will stop talking now and put you all out of your misery,” the lecturer said, clearing his throat, “Again, I’m Special Agent Fox Mulder, assigned to the X-Files, if I can be of service to any of you please feel free to reach out. I’ll put some of my business cards down here on the table.”
Dana Scully knew she needed more; she couldn’t leave the room without approaching him or confronting him. She was enamored, hooked on Fox Mulder.

What made you pursue forensic science as a study? Was your love for detective shows a factor? Or did you want to know the gritty details of how forensics really worked?
Also, I was the 😅 anon before! Revealing myself lol.
Haha, hi! I would have made a tag for you when you were on anon, but I didn't know what 😅 would translate to in words, so I just left it as "anon edition". But if I make a tag, would you prefer "unknown edition" or is there another name you'd prefer?
Anyways, when I was younger, I actually wanted to be a nurse or a surgeon. But at the time I realized that 1) I'd have to deal with blood (I didn't like blood back then, blood doesn't really bother me now) and 2) I'd have someone's life in my hands and that scared the fucking hell out of me so I said nope.
But, I've also been very interested in science. English and science were the subjects I was always really strong in and I actually won an award in middle school for being super inquisitive about science, so that kind of...spurred me on to consider/pursue a career in science.
As I got older, yeah, watching a lot of crime shows did help, like CSI: Miami, Criminal Minds, the First 48, stuff like that and then I started watching Forensic Files and I'm like "That. I wanna do that". Also, anytime we took those like MBTI tests and they told you what sort of job you'd be good in, I always got either science teacher or criminal justice. So I kind of leaned into that as well.
In middle school, I was lucky enough to visit the Honolulu Police Department and talk with someone who worked as a crime scene photographer and sort of get the scoop on how crime scene investigation and stuff like that works so that also sort of helped me realize that hey, forensics is an option and it's kind of fucking cool and maybe I wanna pursue that.
In high school, I wrote a paper on what a CSI is actually like and how it's not everything the television shows make it out to be (the CSI effect and all) and surprisingly, doing all of that research just made me want to do forensics more.
And then in college, the college I went to actually had a degree in Forensic Biology, so I was fucking ecstatic about that. Same with my master's program. I'm very lucky that I was able to go to schools that focused/had degrees that I wanted to pursue in them and I'm also very lucky that my parents urged me to pursue this sort of degree.
Also, working at the morgue for two summers also really strengthened that I seriously want to work in the forensic/death scene investigation field and that we really help put a lot of families at ease.
Also, just learning how important death scene investigations are (sort of similar to crime scene investigations except one is done by the morgue and one is done by the police) and what goes into death scene investigations and what we do...it's all very fascinating and I'm grateful that I got to experience it.
Also experiencing an autopsy. That was a first for me, but I remember it very well and I also found that incredibly fascinating (the doctor was very patient and explained how and why he was doing what he was doing and if I wasn't getting my masters in forensic investigative science, I might have considered going to medical school to become a forensic pathologist).
So yeah, always sort of wanted to work in the criminal justice field, always sort of had the drive/urge to help people and I realized that not everyone has the stomach to be a forensic scientist but I do, so I should...maybe pursue it

What is an innocence test and how does it work?
In a criminal justice system built on the principle of "innocent until proven guilty," the importance of ensuring that the guilty are convicted and the innocent are acquitted cannot be overstated. However, despite the best efforts of law enforcement and legal professionals, wrongful convictions do occur. Innocence test have emerged as crucial tools in the fight against such miscarriages of justice. In this blog, we delve into what innocence test are, how they work, and their significance in safeguarding the rights of the accused.
What Are Innocence Test?
An innocence test, also known as a wrongful conviction test, is a forensic examination conducted to reevaluate evidence from a criminal case to determine whether the convicted individual is actually innocent of the crime for which they were found guilty. These test aim to uncover new evidence, challenge existing evidence, or utilize advancements in forensic technology to reassess the accuracy of the original conviction.
Types of Innocence Test
DNA Testing: DNA evidence has revolutionized forensic science and played a pivotal role in exonerating wrongfully convicted individuals. DNA testing can compare biological evidence collected from a crime scene with the genetic material of the convicted person to ascertain innocence or guilt conclusively.
Fingerprint Analysis: Advances in fingerprint analysis techniques have enabled experts to revisit fingerprint evidence presented during the trial. In cases where erroneous identifications or mishandling of evidence occurred, reevaluation using modern methodologies can reveal inaccuracies.
Ballistics Testing: Firearms and tool mark analysis can be revisited using advanced technology to determine whether the original conclusions were accurate. Improvements in ballistics testing have led to the discovery of discrepancies in earlier findings, leading to exonerations.
Eyewitness Testimony: Eyewitness identification, while often compelling in court, can be unreliable due to factors like stress, bias, or memory distortion. Innocence test may involve reexamining eyewitness testimony or employing techniques such as lineup procedures to assess the accuracy of identifications.
Forensic Pathology: In cases involving death, reevaluation of autopsy reports and forensic pathology can uncover errors or discrepancies in the initial investigation. New insights into the cause of death or the presence of alternative explanations may cast doubt on the original conviction.
How Innocence Test Work
Case Review: Innocence test begin with a comprehensive review of the original case file, including evidence, witness statements, and trial transcripts. This step aims to identify potential issues or discrepancies that warrant further investigation.
Evidence Collection: If new evidence has come to light or if existing evidence requires reevaluation, forensic experts may conduct additional test or analyses. This could involve collecting biological samples for DNA testing, reexamining physical evidence, or employing advanced forensic techniques.
Expert Examination: Forensic experts, including DNA analysts, fingerprint examiners, ballistics experts, and forensic psychologists, carefully examine the evidence using state-of-the-art methodologies. Their objective analysis aims to determine whether the original conclusions were accurate or if there are grounds for doubt.
Legal Review: Upon completion of the innocence test, legal professionals review the findings to assess their significance in the context of the original trial. If the results cast doubt on the guilt of the convicted individual, legal avenues for appeal or post-conviction relief may be pursued.
Significance of Innocence Test
Correcting Miscarriages of Justice: Innocence test serve as a vital mechanism for rectifying wrongful convictions and preventing the incarceration of innocent individuals. By uncovering new evidence or challenging flawed methodologies, these test can exonerate the wrongly accused and restore their freedom.
Identifying Systemic Flaws: In addition to addressing individual cases of wrongful conviction, innocence test shed light on systemic issues within the criminal justice system. Patterns of error or misconduct revealed through innocence testing can prompt reforms aimed at enhancing fairness and reliability in criminal proceedings.
Restoring Confidence in the Justice System: Public confidence in the integrity of the justice system is essential for upholding the rule of law. Innocence test demonstrate a commitment to accountability and transparency, reassuring the public that errors, when identified, will be promptly rectified.
Preventing Future Miscarriages: By identifying the root causes of wrongful convictions, innocence test contribute to the development of preventive measures aimed at reducing the likelihood of similar errors in the future. Improved investigative techniques, enhanced forensic standards, and procedural reforms help safeguard against miscarriages of justice.
Challenges and Limitations
Despite their importance, innocence test face several challenges and limitations:
Availability of Evidence: In some cases, key evidence may have been lost, destroyed, or degraded over time, limiting the effectiveness of innocence testing.
Legal Barriers: Legal hurdles, such as stringent time limits for filing appeals or restrictive evidentiary rules, may impede efforts to conduct innocence test or introduce new evidence.
Resource Constraints: Innocence testing can be time-consuming and resource-intensive, requiring the expertise of forensic specialists, legal professionals, and investigative teams.
Emotional Impact: The process of innocence testing can take a toll on the wrongfully convicted individual, prolonging their ordeal and exacerbating the trauma of wrongful imprisonment.
Conclusion
Innocence test represent a crucial safeguard against miscarriages of justice, offering hope to those who have been wrongfully convicted and underscoring society's commitment to fairness and accountability. By harnessing advancements in forensic science and legal advocacy, innocence test play a vital role in upholding the principles of justice and ensuring that innocence prevails in the face of wrongful accusations. As we continue to refine our understanding of the causes of wrongful convictions and improve our investigative methodologies, innocence test will remain indispensable tools in the pursuit of truth and justice.

i suppose it is normal then and the duration must be a factor too regarding the sadness. have you seen the film called loving vincent then? it's an biography of his life and it's animated in paint to reflect his art style.
i think it's mainly ios users that play it on their phones? but again, still need load of memory. does your laptop heat up when you play for a long time? my phone did despite being an iphone. i know nothing about hi3rd, i really thought GI was their first game lol. as students, we all have those moments lol.
i hope you get your meds soon then because that will probably help a lot, which style of studying do you prefer? where i live only marine biology is rare and that's a huge con :( but the sea sick might change over time. medicine is 5 years here, how long will it be for you? i dk what forensic medicine entails lmao. i'm sure you will be able to figure it out then.
i know stray kids belong to JYP and that's about it and that's cool but her playlist is probably longer lol.
oh, they are silver, my bad there is too many characters in TR that wear earrings ;-; what do you think of silver as a colour? apart from fanfic/cosplay, have you ever tried making anime edits? i started making youtube anime shorts yesterday and i like it where i do upload them online.
the power of self belief is everything! good luck but i think the quality of the wig probably make a difference? so might need to research beforehand so you can pick a good base.
yes, six months left to the big reveal ^^ no worries and oversided hoodies are cool.
oh, loving vincent! i’ve heard of it, but haven’t watched it (yet?), no. it kinda sounds like something i’d enjoy though.
personally i only know three people who play genshin on their phone, but two of them are samsung users lol. my old laptop would heat up like crazy (i mean... it’s like 8 or 9 years old at this point) but with my current laptop i hardly have any issues regarding that. that said i’ve still got to play on low graphics settings because it just lags a ton otherwise, but i hardly mind that. (tho i haven’t been able to play genshin in weeks bc it keeps crashing for some reason :( i’m waiting it out & hoping an update of my laptop will fix it but who knows. i might get a ps5 for christmas though so i’ll at least be able to play it on there ig? and maybe sooner on a phone bc i definitely need a new one even sooner.)
ah, my meds. i’ve got a prescription now, but they’re out of sale until at the very least january :') i really like studying with classmates/friends bc i hardly have the motivation to study alone tbh but if there’s at least someone else i do. i’ve p much got a study bestie tho and for most subjects we study together :D
well where i live i’m pretty sure you can’t study marine biology since there is no ocean lmao. so i might just study biology & then move somewhere for the specifics? idk. but i’ve got lots of time to figure it out still lol yep, hopefully it’ll get better,, medicine is 5 years here too! forensic medicine is p much examining dead (human) bodies, either bc they died in the hospital/in an accident (so for science) or because they died an unnatural death (criminology). tho the forensic medicine field entails more than just forensic pathology (doing autopsies), e.g. you could be working at a lab doing dna testing.
ngl i hardly know anything abt the few kpop bands i listen to, i just enjoy their music lol. but yeah i’m sure she knows more.
no no i get it, there truly are a lot,, i like silver as a color, especially in jewlery! tbh i prefer it over gold in most contexts.
ohh edits,, no, i haven’t done anything apart from cosplay attempts, making merch, writing fic & doing art for fandom so far lol. i don’t use tiktok & hardly use youtube for fandom stuff though (i usually listen to asmr or hour long explanation vids on yt, not much more adhkgdfjf) but if i do come across edits somehow, i’m always excited :D imo they’re very fun, but i don’t have the right apps or space on my phone for them to make any.
very true! yep, i’ll definitely do some research to try and find a rather cheap but still rather good quality wig,, bc it very much does make a difference.
only four more months.. 👀

Awake late at night again of course. I don't know what to really say but I do want to talk, so I'm posting something. It's about 4:51 in the morning, which should give you a lot of location data based only on the time zone alone, but I don't mind too much, honestly. At this point my privacy only matters to me so much because I don't want anyone else other than those who find my small spaces online to know me - my usernames are the only gateway to me, and even then, I try my best to be vague.
(Readmore because I decided not to shut up.)
I wonder if I ever will post something like my face online, but probably not, since according to everyone around me in person I already look like.. well.. Me, so if you look at my source then you've seen me. It's so odd to me how that works, I truly do not see the resemblance but they swear it's uncanny. I suppose so, I am mixed and have the sunken INTJ stare. As silly as that is. I don't understand people who put their personality letters in their bios. It's all based on a set of questions that take what, fifteen minutes, and can easily be manipulated one direction or the other based on a result you may be hoping for, but maybe I'm just too cynical and expect everyone to be dishonest. (Funnily enough, I am apparently an INTJ, so I suppose I do have 'the stare').
I haven't gotten over my picking habit yet. And I'm out of medicated shampoo, but I think it's causing more issues somehow - Funny how things that are meant to help me always go wrong in some way, but I suppose that's just the hand I've been dealt. I get dealt such terrible hands so consistently, I'm starting to wish I could rip up the cards. Or the dealer, honestly.
I should write more, but all I want to write revolves around myself. Selfish, egotistical, maybe - but I suppose it's more-so to affirm my place in the world in a way, to affirm myself that I truly am who I think and say I am, despite the differences in life-paths at the moment.. Even if I have been more seriously considering forensics. ... I just don't want to deal with police, that lot has been historically annoying at best and truly sickening at worst, though I don't know if I feel those things out of true empathy or out of my own personal experience.
I have such a low empathy threshold.. The only time I feel close to it is with my partner yet I'm not sure if that is real either. I do try to have at least some compassion, and manners and politeness most of the time, but I suppose that's just even more evidence for me being a quote-en quote 'true introject' in my mind. Perhaps I'm just delusional. I don't know. Mental illness is truly an enigma I don't care to pursue on an inward scale. I love psychoanalysing and deconstruction of others, though, it is fun to see how other people think. Me? Well. I just know there is no shortage of things in my head.
Would it be selfish to go into a profession that actively helps those in power that oppress people like me every day just because I enjoy the science of it? Well, yes. Definitely. But I suppose I could also be keeping innocent people out by doing so, considering analysis especially in the aim of DNA does provide concrete evidence that keeps people out. Maybe I just want to deconstruct bodies and pick around at them. I could do autopsies. Mm, but I think my chair is too short for the table.. Shame.
Embalming could be another one, but I'm not too keen on getting cancer thirty years earlier than my bio-timer declares from the chemicals, so I suppose that's off the table. I would go for detective work, but police (gagging noises go here) - and of course my chair would make it hard. Unless I get some sort of police escort that will carry me around like a sack of potatoes under their arm into places that aren't accessible. That would be funny, wouldn't it? 'Take a step back please, if the blood gets on your shoes and you muck up the crime scene we'll lose potential evidence' and such. Mm, maybe.
Before my disability started fully setting in we did want to go for meat processing. Butchery, that sort of thing. Especially game meat, it's definitely a very methodical and detail-oriented job.. Which I highly revere, I love repetitive, cautious precision. Separate hide from fat, fat from meat, meat from bone, slice into perfect little cuts. It's mesmerising. And the meat hook is fun too. Off goes your morning gown, little deer. It's time to inhabit a person for a little while.
I have such odd ideas about death and such, maybe due to watching LiveLeak videos of people being run down by trains, or finding such deep interest in butchery, or my obsession with the macabre of crime, or the fact I've been through so much crime in my lifetime. I've seen first hand cartels, drug trades, domestic violence, and now murder - it's all become so integrated into my life it's no wonder our system split me off somewhere along the way, really.
Even still, I don't know. This post got very long, but like I said, I did want to talk. And that's what blogs are for, aren't they, so that's no harm, no foul. It's under a readmore, so it's alright. I do wish I had more friends on here, but I suppose I can understand the hesitation to speak to an introject.. Even if I would like to talk more like this - just.. prompted, not unprompted.

wish i didn't stop going to temple regularly this past year because i have been thinking a lot about the holocaust leading up to my senior trip (we are going to dachau for a day and i am very worried what my some of my very very sheltered, christian, white, preppy classmates will say afterwards).
i have talked about it with my mom a bit but she's very stressed right now with her college class and i don't want to be dumping all that on her every day. but my dad grew up catholic and is still in the process of converting, and idk hes just not as involved in jewish identity and doesn't see judaism as a ethnicity/race the same way me and my mom do, so i don't know if he can fully understand the kind of grief im trying to process right now.
i think mostly i am having a more difficult time grappling with the reality of what happened right now because i have not spent nearly as much time with jewish elders and so it's easy to forget that we're still very alive and that people survived and not all was lost.
there are just so many little things i hear that make me so angry and sad and disbelieving about the massive massive hatred and disregard for human life. there was this one anecdote i heard, where josef mengele was searching for an assistant, and out of the lineup of new auschwitz inmates he asked who was a doctor, and 50 or so people raised their hands, then he asked for a forensic pathologist, 5 hands, then one who had trained at a specific university, one man left, who was forced to perform an autopsy on a decayed, gangrenous corpse in front of him to prove his aptitude and was then essentially his slave until the camp was liberated.
and the story of that individual man is horrible, obviously, but what really struck me was the other 49 doctors who were just. killed. 49 doctors. Forty-nine! obviously all life has value, but it drives in the fact that our accomplishments and merits as a people just did not matter, there was nothing you could do to earn your humanity. for fucks sake, heisenberg (of the heisenberg uncertainty principle) was widely ridiculed for using 'jew science' because he based his work on the theories of albert einstein.
and then there are the demographic changes. im basing this off of loose memory here, but ashkenazi jews went from like 20% of the global jewish population to 80% after the holocaust (i have tried to find out WHY that happened but all i can find is the raw statistics). it's far from the only one in jewish history but the holocaust is a classic example of a bottleneck event and it's so fucking hard to fathom how much our genes have been affected by the repeated occurrences of interference with natural selection through forced reproductive isolation and rapid reductions in population.
it's just, it's such a huge event, so (blessedly) few times has this happened to a people, so few other diasporic peoples exist, especially ethnoreligious groups, and i feel like people who are not jewish or close with jewish people cannot wrap their head around why i care so much, beyond historical interest. and i do love jewish history its just, this is not a love, this is a need to understand.
there is always this sense of who cares, jews are so sensitive caring about things from nearly a century ago, it's not even real to me. but the more you learn the more its so painfully scarily real and the more you have to grapple with the fact that you can be hated so much for something so simple as ethnicity and religion that the most awful unspeakable things can be done to you and nobody will really care.
idk i don't have an answer here, obviously, i just wish i could talk to people at temple about this but i haven't been in ages and its such a heavy topic.
