I finished knitting my "tube" socks!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Some details under the cut
I followed this tutorial.
I cast on 27 stitches and knitted in 1x1 rib stitch until the piece was about 54 cm long. For both socks (total) I used a little less than 100 grams of yarn (80% acrylic and 20% wool) and 8 mm knitting needles.

You get knitters that turn to crochet and never look back.

Then you get me, collecting fiber crafts like Infinity Stones

I have a question for knitters/fiber craft people.
I have a wool yarn that I want to use to make a cardigan. It’s worsted weight and it’s label says to use between 4.5 mm - 5.5 mm needles. I have 5.0 mm needles so no problem there. The pattern I’m using, however, says to use 6.0 mm needles with worsted weight yarn.
So do I follow the pattern or the label the yarn comes with??

how many aura points did i lose when my friends asked me how studying was going and i said "bad but I can knit now" and then I showed up to the exam completely unprepared but with a ball of yarn and needles, knitting an ear warmer

not to be FUCKING dramatic, but crochet is intuitive and logical and knitting is of the devil and feels like every step is just made up on a whim

chat is encouraging someone to step out of their comfort zone and try a technique that's much easier than it looks 'being unkind to beginners'

okay, I bought pretty sock yarn, and I have decided this is the year I'm going to finish knitting my first (and second) sock - I have started about five times but always gave up.
does anyone have a good, easy, beginner sock knitting pattern? ideally toe-up, I think? I know I've tried like three different ones but they were all confusing 🙈

No but I just started learning to knit last week and I had been watching all of these beginner videos and I was confused because it wasn’t the stitch that I typically associated with knitting because I didn’t know much about knitting, so I just wanted to start off with the stitch that I know know is called the stockinette stitch. The past week after watching all of these beginner videos I’d been doing the stitch they showed, which is apparently the garter stitch😐 Literally looked up purl stitch and learned that I’d been led astray and obviously didn’t look into the videos more. On the bright side, I now know how to do the stockinette stitch and know how to purl 😀 This probably sounds goofy to people who know how to knit, but I was genuinely shocked tonight but I also learned a lot so there’s that 😀

It may have taken me 6 hours, but I made my first dishcloth 😊

Still messy, still just cheap acrylic yarn I had laying around. But I could tell I was getting a little faster at the end! The pattern I found looks almost exactly like the pattern my great grandma used, too

Am I overreaching for the first sweater I plan on making???kind of yeah. But I need a bigger size since I'm both fat and have sensory issues so I need the end project to be big enough for it to not touch my body too much. I'm thinking of making changes to a pattern I found that has like 5 different sizes so technically if I do the math I should be able to increase it by another 2 or 3 sizes right?? Length isn't the issue the width is but I thunk I can pull it off....I'll figure it out. Hopefully.
I do anyway plan to try and make one of those hats before I start a full on sweater but I wanna have the calculations done so I can buy yarn before I go home in a week.
