HTML Elements & Tags
Element: anything from the start tag to the end tag.
Tag: a piece of markup language that is used to indicate the beginning and end of an html element in an html document.
Example:
your text here

<header><;/header> - Represents a container for introductory content or a set of navigation links. Usually contains one or more heading elements (
-
), logo or icon, or authorship information.
<;h#></h#> - header element. The higher the number, the greater the importance. Only use one
element per page. There can only be six. Main topic on a web page. When visitors to your website see the h1's, it draws attention as it stands out the most on the page as it generally appears as a larger font size and in bold.
<p>
- paragraph. used to create a paragraph of text on websites. Always starts on a new line. A lot of browsers add some white space (a margin) before and after a paragraph.
<;!-- ____: _______ --> - comment. Used to notate code with text that will not appear on the website/browser display. It allows you to make code inactive. You can use them to explain your code, which can help you when you edit the source code at a later date.
<main></main> - an element that identifies a content area. The main element. Specifies the main content of a document. This type of element/tag makes your html easier to read and helps with Sear Engine Optimization and accessibility. Should not contain any content that is repeated across documents such as sidebars, navigation links, copyright information, site logos, and search forms. When you put things inside the main element, this is called nesting. Nesting elements should be placed two spaces further to the right from the element they are nested in. This spacing is called indentation and is used to make html easier to read.
Example:

Tumblr Meme App

Tumblr Photos
<;p>See more Tumblr memes in our gallery

<img> - used to images to your website. This element has an opening tag without a closing tag. A tag for an element without a closing tag is called a self-closing tag.

➳ The Rot of Witchwood
As a wayward Witch, you have enough to worry about. Your powers, gifted to you by a curious demon, the past you run from, even trying to get by enough without raising the ire of the neighbouring town. But when you find yourself implicated in a nefarious deed, it's time to step out of your own isolation, and clear your name.
This is a text based game about being a witch that is trying to hide from a past that hangs heavy over your head, while being plagued by memories of your family. What is meant to be a quick stay in the region of South Hollow, until you're caught up in the murder of a local boy, Luke Buckley.
It's up to you to totally erase any doubt that it was you, before the people from your past come back into the picture.
This game is 18+ and deals with topics such as murder, abuse, thoughts of suicide. There are also going to be adult scenes in general, but also between the player and the love interests, which are optional. A list of the origins found here!

➳ Our Last Liaisons
Tumblr media
Taking place nearly a century before the current events of the Witchwood, is a tale that takes place just a few days before the entire country of Varan goes dark.
Slipping into either the role of one of the lesser royal children or of a servant of no importance, witness the start of over a century of war and total silence from the entire east of the continent. The Basilica had never been able to touch Varan, the constant three rulers having always been united on the subject to never let them to spread their doctrine into their snowy, icy lands. For centuries each Tsar, Tsarina and Czar have not only fought back against the persecution of Witches, but due to their own familial history, have elevated each and every one into a noble house.
While remarkable, many things plague the imperial houses. Such as petty squabbles, consistently splitting courts, the business of marriage, vying for affections, and at long last... The perfection of the art of Tagging. An easy way for one of the Royal Witches to show a favorite among the courtiers.
Face these, as either one of the few people born above it all, the seventh child of the Tsarina Tatsiana of House Aureus or a lowly servant, barely even worth changing the sheets on the royal beds. See the two very different versions of living this life before the Century of Silence befalls your country.
This game is 18+ and deals with topics such as incest, abusive situations, dubious consent, human experiments and more.

➳ The Mad Heir
Tumblr media
The worsening health of the King has caused not only a little bit of disarray in South Hollow, but also complete chaos in the government and the house of Royals. After the birth of the king's first grandchild, he had changed the law of succession. Crown goes to the first born... Or, a blood relative of the current Crown's choosing. And while they lay in their cradle, the King had announced that they were the one to inherit the crown.
Sadly, they've been missing ever since they came of age. So, while the entire stretch of the Isles have been turned upside down to find them, it turns out you've been minding your own business in a run down manor, kept secret by your father, the regent, for... Your very apparent imperfections.
Royals either waste away from sickness... Or become enraptured with a madness not seen in any others.
You sleepwalk through your days, unable to sleep at night, knowing there is something whispering from beyond your curtains, your blood singing back to whatever it is. Things plague you beyond the whispers, something lurks under your skin, angry and dark. It's what takes up most of your day, to the point you hardly realize your father has moved back into the manor, with his new spouse and stepchild he's aiming to install as the heir without anyone noticing. Oh well.
This game is 18+ and deals with step-cest, ableism towards mental health and physical health, subterfuge and negelct.

Hi, Mr Prokopetz, I'm a big fan. Apologies if you've answered this before, but I was wondering what software you use to create the pdf and epub layouts of your ttrpgs, and whether you'd recommend it to a hobbyist who wants to try putting together something more professional than a gdoc for their own ttrpg?
My workflow is unfortunately not terribly accessible unless you have a fair amount of technical know-how.
In brief, I write all of my games in Notepad++ as HTML documents, taking care to use only the subset of HTML5 tags which are supported by most popular EPUB readers. I then use Calibre (or, more, precisely, the command-line utility that comes with Calibre, though you can get mostly the same results via the GUI) to bundle the HTML document as an EPUB3 file. I typically distribute both the HTML and EPUB versions (the former in a zipfile with all of the fonts and images and such) because web browsers tend to have much better screen-reader support than EPUB apps do.
The PDF, meanwhile, is generated from the same master HTML document using CSS paged media extensions – the layout is all generated automatically based on rules specified in a big, gnarly CSS file, and is never touched by human hands. There are a number of software packages which can do this sort of CSS-driven HTML-to-PDF conversion, some of them free or open source; I use a commercial product called Prince because, to the best of my knowledge, it's the only such software which has out-of-the-box support for PDF/UA semantic tagging (i.e., the stuff you need to do in order to make your PDFs screen-reader friendly), but you have more options if you're willing to tag your PDFs manually. (I am not.)
As for whether I'd recommend doing it this way? Like I said, unless you're a proper gearhead, not really; it's super efficient once you get it all set up – the only version of the game I actually maintain is the master HTML document, and generating updated versions of all the other formats is a one-click affair – but it's really only feasible for me because I already knew how to all that workflow automation stuff for unrelated reasons. I can't imagine teaching yourself all that from scratch just to write elfgames!

#input()#print()#crossover!!!
I find this tagging system fascinating.
Was it inspired by computer programming?
Thank you! And yes they are!
Input and print both come from python where input is how you start a line of code that asks for user input. I've made that my tag for reblogs. Print is how you tell the program to simply print a line of text in the console or anywhere else. That one is my tag for when I add text to a post or create my own text.
Crossover!!! Is for mutual interactions :3
There is one more that is #<imgsrc> which comes from HTML5 because putting pictures in python is a pain. And i use that for my own pictures i put on here!
Thanks for letting me ramble a bit about this :)

Since the release of HTML5 in 2008, tags such as (bold), (italic) have been softly deprecated for the benefit of users of screenreaders*; instead, it is preferable to use the semantic tags and (emphasis) respectively, with style defined in CSS. If for some reason they aren't appropriate, it's still preferable to use CSS style attributes within a container to ensure that your text will be interpreted correctly in modern (and future) browsers.
That's why the only tone tag I accept is '/span'. /span
* also to clarify the division between content (HTML) and style (CSS)

HTML Tutorial: A Quick Overview
HTML (HyperText Markup Language) forms the backbone of web development, enabling the structure and presentation of content on the web. It’s a markup language that defines elements like headings, paragraphs, links, images, lists, and more, providing a standardized way to format and display information in browsers.
HTML uses tags, enclosed in angle brackets, to represent different types of content. Each tag typically comes in pairs, an opening tag and a closing tag, to wrap and describe the content in between. HTML is fundamental for building web pages, allowing developers to create structured documents with defined sections and multimedia elements.
One of HTML’s key features is its ability to create links, connecting different parts of the web. This hyperlinking capability is what makes HTML unique, forming the web as we know it today. Additionally, HTML supports embedding multimedia like images, videos, and audio, which brings pages to life.
As web standards evolve, HTML has grown, too, with the latest version being HTML5. This version introduced new elements that provide semantic meaning to the structure of web documents, ensuring that content is more accessible and well-organized.

through a long and confusing conversation with my boyfriend, a programmer, i've realised that a lot of my confusion about HTML (and in particular where the line btween HTML and CSS is) stems from the fact that the HTML i learned as a kid editing text on forums and w/e was HTML4, while HTML5 is what's generally in use today and some of the ways i edited text as a kid was by using tags that aren't in HTML5 because youre supposed to do that with CSS now
