“Good morning, Director.”
“Good morning Zhongli!” The director cheered, waving to the older man who strolled through the doors. He said that every morning, and every morning, she responded with some version of a greeting. She tried to spice things up within his strict routine. Zhongli liked his routines …
She was good to him . He started working for her about ten years ago when she was just fifteen, when her grandfather was still alive. After he passed, Zhongli helped her plan the funeral, as she was too shaken to do it herself. He was good to her .
“A beautiful day, isn’t it?” he commented, opening the windows and letting a breeze in. It was a normal comment, yet it made Hu Tao feel uneasy. He hadn’t said that before. He usually walked in, made them both tea, and sat down in the little loveseat she had purchased for him when he started, and would read the paper.
“Uh, yeah..” she squinted at him, making a face. What was with him? She scrambled out of her chair and went to lean against the windowsill with him, looking at the harbor. He was right, it was a beautiful day. The clouds were few but fluffy and bright, the sky was a beautiful blue, and the crests of the ocean waves sparkled with sunlight. “It sure is. What makes ya say that? Are you not gonna go make tea and relax?” She nudged him playfully, looking up at him.
Hu Tao wasn’t stupid. She knew he didn’t age. She knew about adepti, about the mysterious traveler’s adventures, about the archons. She knew all those years ago that the geo archon wasn’t truly gone. She could feel it in her bones, that Liyue still had his spirit. But… she also wasn’t stupid . She could tell that her beloved employee was growing tired. Coughing. Walking with a cane. He was hanging on, just like Liyue was.
“Today, I believe I will observe what is good.” He said, looking down at her. His eyes were wise. That was another tell of who he was. “It is a special day, Director Tao. I believe you should appreciate it as well. Join me for a walk?” It was more of a statement than a question, and who was she to say no? Their schedule was clear, so she looped her arm with Zhongli’s before strolling out of the parlor, locking the door behind them.
He took a breath after a moment, surely preparing himself for the ramble he was about to make. “When I was young, I would stroll down these streets with the woman I loved. She loved this place, and taught me to as well. She passed away in my arms years ago, but she hasn’t been forgotten. Her light, her spirit… it lives on in Liyue.”
“I bet she was wonderful,” Hu Tao commented, patting Zhongli’s wrist. She wasn’t the best with affection sometimes, especially now since she was still feeling out what exactly was up with him today. “She was. She reminds me of you, in some ways. So adoring of human spirits.” Hu Tao hummed in response, smiling a little, wondering how many years ago he was speaking of.
“I met General Alatus later, and all of his family. He’s the last one. Please, keep care of him. He’s like a son to me. We protected this place, and I am so proud of what it turned into.” He strolled over the pond, up the stairs, over to a balcony that overlooked Liyue. It was beautiful, the sun still somewhat cool in comparison to the midday heat.
“Zhongli..” she turned to him, giving him a look. “Tell me what’s going on.” She said, placing her hand over his, meeting his eyes. They were pretty.. Deep.. intelligent.. The color of geo.
“Hu Tao,” he sighed, a small smile on his lips, “you know me quite well. I do not take it for granted. I have always felt comfortable around you, as I have known your family since they migrated to Liyue Harbor. I appreciate your dedication to the community, and all that you do for me. Letting me work for you… letting me spend time with you… paying me to do barely anything. You looked out for me in my eldest age. Thank you.”
At once, it hit her what he was talking about. Her heart sank to her stomach, her neck tightening up as she bit back her emotions, not wanting to interrupt his speech for long. She managed to get out, “It’s been my pleasure,” voice quieter and shakier than she intended it to be.
He chuckled, the warm sound putting her at ease. It didn’t erase the sorrow, but it felt nice. “I am sure you are aware of erosion. Of the cliffs, of history, of archons.” Zhongli looked out again, the sun lighting up his face. A memorable face, a familiar one. “I have been living with it for a long time now. It is tiring, I admit, but I go through the weeks knowing my days are worth living. Now, I do believe the fatigue has finally caught up to me. Hu Tao,” he paused, turning to her, “Would you cross over with me? To make sure I get there safely. With Guizhong. With my friends.”
She didn’t know what to say. She looked up at him, nodding a little. “Of course, Zhongli.” Hu Tao’s flowered eyes were overflowing with tears as she stepped forward, throwing her arms around him and hugging him tight, close to her. She hadn’t really thought about it, but he had occupied the hole in her heart that had formed when she lost her family. He kept an eye on her, made her laugh, and made sure she got home safely. She didn’t know what to do without him, really. In her mind, she had thought that he’d always be there, since she knew who he was. But, she knew death was a part of life. An inevitable one.
“You’ll be okay,” she assured him, voice muffled, tears most definitely leaving little wet spots on the nice suit he wore. “You’ll get there safely, okay?” She pulled back after a moment of embracing each other, looking up at him. He wasn’t scared. He was ready. It was his time, and somehow, she felt that too (even though she didn't want to feel it).
“I will be. Like I said, Guizhong isn’t really gone. I won’t really be gone, either.” He assured her, sitting down. He struggled a little to sit on the ground, his expression frustrated for a moment. Not as spry as he used to be, chucking mountains and meteors at enemies. Age isn’t forgiving. Time isn’t either.
She sat down next to him, getting comfortable as he did, his back resting against a rock. “Are you comfortable?” she asked, to which he nodded, a little smile on his face, giving her a look that said no need to fret over me . “Can you hold my hand?” Hu Tao asked, reaching out, lacing their fingers together, her rings catching on his glove a little bit. “Okay. I know you’re.. Different, so just.. When you’re ready, you can let go. I’ll be there, okay?”
He sighed deeply, the tension in his shoulders releasing as his eyes fluttered closed, the gentle expression on his face not leaving. He seemed content, so Hu Tao followed, eyes closing, squeezing his hand. When they opened, they were in a different realm. There were trees with orange leaves bordering a path paved with rocks and little plants. It was so welcoming.
Everyone’s paths to the other side were different. She had seen different regions, different settings, different weather, everything. This place felt almost magical, maybe because it was for an archon. “How are you feeling?” she asked, looking over at him. He didn’t look like his old, human self. He looked like Morax, the one she had seen in textbooks, who was sitting still as stone on top of statues of the seven. All her suspicions were instantly confirmed, shocked at the god in front of her.
“Divine.” he responded, heading towards the path. He knew what he had to do, where to go. There wasn’t really anywhere else to go. She looked down at their hands, still linked. She’d hate to let go.
“I’m glad.” she said, walking with him. “You know, I wanted to thank you again. For looking after me, too. It went both ways, with us. I’ll never forget you, Zhongli.”
They met the end of the road far too soon for her liking. Hu Tao kicked her shoe in the dirt, procrastinating for just a bit more time with the man. “I’m about to let go. Are you ready?”
Zhongli.. Morax… nodded his head once, the same expression adorning his features. Content. He paused, looking at the light for a moment before looking back at her. “Be well, Hu Tao.”
His hand dropped.
The director opened her eyes, seeing the suit he wore and kept so tidy sitting in a pile of sand, pebbles, and dust. This must be the gods' erosion, she realized. She wasn't sure exactly what to do next. She picked up his suit and shook the dirt out of it, laying it over her arm. Then, she scooped up a handful and held it carefully within her hands, not wanting the wind to blow any away. She trekked back to the funeral parlor, extremely aware of just how alone she was. How she’d walk back into the building and not smell the tea he’d made, but only the breeze of the harbor from the open window.
He wasn't really gone.
A few days later, she called for Xiao. He showed up like he always did. He knew already. She eyed him over, figuring out how exactly he needed comfort. If she wasn’t careful, he would claim he didn’t need or deserve any comfort, mutter something about karma, and disappear. So, she decided to tease him about his real name, Alatus, being revealed. He made a face of shock and disgust before scolding her, not meaning any of the sharp words. He knew she knew, and in his way, he was comforting her right back.
For the following years that came and went, the adeptus visited her frequently. He found comfort in the parlor just like the archon did, appreciating the tea, the sea breeze, and the familiar suit that was displayed behind glass.

Boycott hoyoverse, please.
I used to be a big genshin impact lore buff, i played, i read, i was on forums, i made fanart, and then i was deeply disrespected by the game itself (this post is about natlan)
I am brazilian and i follow a religion named candomblé. Long story short, its from yoruba people who were sent to brazil as slaves, then went through a big process of spreading out to not just black people, but light-skinned people of lower classes like my family. We believe in the creation by Olorum, the power of Axé, and the Orixás.
Natlan, as of now, has two characters named Iansan and Ororon. These names come from not just the yoruba predecessors of candomblé, but also the religion itself, the Orixá deities Iansã and Olorum.
My religion, my deities. My mother's deities. The statuettes in my house. Their names are recycled cheaply to be used trivially. Never have we of candomblé ever gotten mentioned by AAA games or films that give such attention to detail like Genshin does, and we are disrespected. Our Gods are used like rags for someone's profit to be thrown away, washed out. They do not convey our beauty, our grit, our wonder, they do not convey us but they profit from us.
People love to tell us that it is just a game, but think again: games are not entitled to disrespect us just because of their nature. We are entitled to complain, to scream, because this is cruelty. You brutalize our image, butcher our names, for what?
When I was younger, I used to look at games with religious imagery very curiously. It was always weird to see the faith of the people I know be used for aesthetic reasons or just because it looks cool. The same has now happened to me, but times worse. People will say anything to justify this mockery and throw excuses to keep playing the product of a corporation that won't ever understand what it means to be us.
Boycott, complain, scream, because I will do it too. I regret the time I invested in playing, in reading, in watching, in dedicating myself to something that would never do me justice. It is not expensive to change a character's name, not even talking about the model. I don't plan on re-entering the fandom while it still lies unaware of the gross source material's true colors. Candomblé is not mythology, it's faith. We are alive. We have existed for centuries and will continue to grow, despite the challenges we face.

SAGAU x Secret!Creator!Reader Drabble
not a continuation but an alternate situation to this ask.
--
imagine ur hush hush about being creator but ur still open to being close to/friends with the characters (i mean it’s hard not to especially when they’re ur main or fav character)
so you allow yourself to befriend them
imagine they treat you so casually that you argue and even sometimes physically fight
or imagine they’re rough when playing around and smack you upside the head when you say something silly
but one time they go a little bit too far and accidentally hit your nose
you quickly cover your face hoping to stop the bleeding before they see anything
however, too caught up in their guilt, they pry your hands away to assess the damage just to see a gold liquid dripping down your face
“you’re bleeding.”
“...yeah”
“it’s gold”
“is it?”
they don’t know how to feel. all this time they were playful insulting and hitting the sole creator of teyvat
you need to constantly reassure them that they won’ t be smote (smite?) or struck by lightning for hurting the creator

Oracle!Reader Part 23
Masterlist - Part 1, Part 22, Part 24
Warning! This is a SAGAU imposter au so this is pretty gory and not happy all the time. Plus yandere but that's the expected for SAGAU.
Xingqiu and Chongyun both showed muddled emotions at your words of leaving Liyue.
“That may be best for you…” Chongyun says first as he keeps his gaze on the floorboards.
“Yes, I agree. Although I never expected that you would have to leave Liyue so soon, it's clear that you aren't safe here.”
Xingqiu’s words that were full of understanding still had disappointment sprinkled in.
“We can't do much to help you when it comes to Ningguang, but Mondstadt is a different story. Do you have the talisman on you right now?”
Chongyun takes a few steps closer as you lift the amulet for him to see. He rubs one finger on it, examining the symbol that appears at the action.
“It's still at full charge, good. The road to Mondstadt can either be empty or full of demons depending on the day. But once you get to Wangshu Inn, it becomes much safer.”
“Because of Xiao, right? Despite how the situation looked when I first met the Adepti, I'm on relatively good terms with them now.”
It was a bit risky telling them this, but they both deserved to know at this point.
“When are you planning on leaving? Is your meeting with Ningguang today?” Switching the topic, Xingqiu brings the focus back to the most pressing issue.
Nodding, you answer. “My meeting is with her today, but I'll probably have to leave either at midnight or early tomorrow morning. The sooner, the better.”
“Then I can offer you some help that should make staying in Mondstadt a bit easier.” Xingqiu grins as he takes out paper and some ink. “I happen to know someone-”
“Albedo, right?” Cutting off Xingqiu as you think back to his connection, you continue. “Together you made the book, uh what was the name again? A Legend of a Sword? It got pretty popular in Inazuma. I remember there was a whole festival on light novels that you both attended too.”
Once you stop, you notice Xingqiu squinting his eyes at you before replying. “That's really creepy, you know? If I didn't know you were the Oracle, then I would have believed you to be some stalker.”
“If I was, then I wouldn't be stalking you of all people.” You snapped back as he grins while shaking his head.
“But yes, I'll send Albedo a letter in advance so that he can arrange for you to be settled nicely over there. I won't mention the Oracle situation as the Creator didn't want you to be known widely like that.”
It's been so long since you last heard the title ‘Creator’ be mentioned despite the fact that all of your problems come from their supposed existence.
Only goes to show just how ingrained the Creator is in this world.
“Thanks Xingqiu. Albedo is the chief alchemist and well respected among the community, so I should be in safe hands.”
Xingqiu merely hums in response as Chongyun tugs the amulet closer to him.
“Just trying to apply a better talisman on it.” He mumbles in accordance with your stare as he settles himself closer to you.
He's basically pressed against your side, but you strangely don't feel uncomfortable to have him close.
As the pair focus on their own activities, your mind wanders off to Albedo.
Albedo, the chief alchemist and homunculus created by Gold, the famous Khaenri'an scientist. Khaenri'ah, which also held so much information that could be connected to Celestia…
It was a long shot, but you could try digging for information about Celestia from him. The deal that Celestia made with Teyvat still bothers you to no end. With the age of this deal unknown, you might even have to look into the primordial dragons if it's even older than the Archon war.
A light shining brought you back to the present and your eyes flickered down to where the amulet shined in Chongyun’s hands.
Once it died down to reveal a more intricate symbol than before, Chongyun nodded, satisfied with the final product.
“This one is a lot stronger and should last longer now. I know you can fight well, but the demonic energy in Bishui Plain and Qiongji Estuary has shown to rise around this time of the year.”
Carefully taking the amulet from him, you thumbed the symbol with curious eyes. “I get it, thank you. Does it activate on its own, or do I have to activate it with something?”
“It'll work on its own. Depending on the amount and degree of demonic energy around it, the workings will change.”
Motioning with his hands, Chongyun’s calm voice explains the working to you. At the end of the rather lengthy explanation, you nod and condense the information in your mind.
“And now that Instructor Chongyun is done teaching you, I'm happy to say that I'm done with the letter. Have been for a while, but I saw no need to interrupt the oh so fascinating lecture.”
Raising the letter, Xingqiu lazily waved it as Chongyun bristled but ultimately said nothing.
“I can send this once I get home. Unfortunately, neither me nor Chongyun will be available to accompany you through your journey.”
Xingqiu tsk’d at his own words while Chongyun turned his head away, visibly sulking.
“My family was just hired to check out Wuwang Hill and my attendance for this is mandatory. Xingqiu’s father is forcing him to stay and attend meetings with his brother for the week as well.”
All you could do was smile sadly in response.
Before long they were both forced to leave by Baizhu who insisted on total privacy for the reviewing of your medication and discharge.
Watching them climb down the stairs from the window in your room, you listen absentmindedly to Baizhu.
Changsheng still refused to see you. Something Tevyat was clearly displeased with, as the once sunny weather quickly turned cloudy. The cold-blooded creature must be huffing in annoyance by now.
“And this is the overview of medication and supplements to take, with the doses and dates to take them.”
Casually looking over the paper received from the shady snake bastard, you hummed for a moment before stuffing it into your bag.
“All of it is paid for by your special benefactor. And the drug you requested has already been paid with by your body, as we both know.”
‘Must he phrase it like that?’ You internally questioned as you snatch the medication and shove it into your bag.
“I'm glad for it. Maybe even more so if she didn't pin so many babysitters onto me.”
At your grumble, Baizhu’s smile wavered at the edges. Either he truly hadn't known why there was extra ‘security’ or he was a great liar. You suspect it's a bit of both.
“Then if everything has been covered, I’m happy to say that you're officially discharged as of-” He merely glanced at the sun still high in the sky before finishing. “1300. I sincerely hope that the next time we meet you'll be in a better physical state.”
“And I sincerely wish we never have to meet again.” The words you utter are full of sarcasm, something Baizhu simply chuckles at.
“Now what could I have possibly done to deserve your ire, dear Oracle?”
“It's what you haven't done. A little heads up about all the guards would have been nice.”
“Oh, but I did!” His smile seems a little sharper as he leans toward you, his glasses sliding down to the bridge of his nose. “Didn't I let you know early on that there were quite a lot of guards?”
With an annoyed scoff, you snap back. “You said it was due to the two temples nearby, not cause Ningguang wanted to keep an eye on me.”
Raising his hands with wide eyes, Baizhu tried to placate you. “I'm not part of the Millelith, how on earth could a physician like me know the true reasoning?”
Holding his gaze, you tried to discern what he was truly thinking at this moment. Malice? Amusement? Mocking kindness?
But at that moment, all you could see was genuine surprise in his eyes. It only served to confuse you further.
Was Baizhu truly innocent in this? Your instincts in situations like these were usually correct. Besides, what would Baizhu even gain from deceiving you?
Still, that didn't explain why Baizhu was always so damn shady, but maybe you should chalk it up to an unfortunate side effect of being contracted with a snake.
“Well, then let me reiterate my earlier words. While I still hope we won't have to meet again. I do wish for us to want to meet again.”
Baizhu lowers his arms while fixing his glasses to laugh, the sound is surprisingly tender. “And how do you expect me to tell when that would be? I’m no mind reader.”
Standing up, you stay silent as you slip your bag over your shoulders and move past him. The door opens with a creak as you tilt your head slightly to meet his eyes.
“To put it simply, I’ll want to see you when you discover whatever is hidden in my culture sample.”
The door clicks shut as you leave Bubu’s Pharmacy for good.
----------------------------
After a brief but firm pat to Qiqi’s head, you walk down the stairs casually. The slight rustling of the leaves, the fabric of curtains drawn, and the quieting of chatter are all brought to your attention.
Ningguang’s spies and the Millelith guards are all watching you like rabid dogs, waiting for you to slip up and give them an excuse to arrest you right now.
Smiling without hesitation, you get to the last step and pretend that the forced conversations around you aren't scripted, and that the eyes locked on you are of a curious bystander and not the ones of detectives.
Bringing your attention back to the list you have clenched in your hand, you read the first errand on the list.
Return books to library.
Easy enough, and it's even easier when people seem to automatically avoid being in your path.
Is this what a day in Xinyan's life feels like? It's honestly not that bad.
At least you thought so until you got to the counter and waited for the receptionist to return.
Five minutes pass. Then ten minutes, which quickly turn into fifteen in a blink of an eye. You can feel your mood worsening.
Deciding to test something, you walk away from the library and turn the corner. Peeking around the corner, you watch as the ‘customer’ that was standing in the corner all those minutes gets to the counter. Almost immediately, a swarm of people return to it.
Sighing heavily, you ignore the weight of suspicious stares and turn the corner back into the library. Getting back into line feels humiliating, but it's just a quick errand, you tell yourself.
No one moves out of the way, but the quick glances they send you make them pale with each minute.
Not a soul dares to stand behind you.
It's finally your turn, and you place your books on the table with the last bit of patience you had. She doesn't meet your eyes and mumbles something.
“I'm sorry, what did you say?” Leaning closer, you try to catch her words, only for her to yell.
“It's lunchtime now so I can't accept any more returns or purchases. H-Have a good-d da-ay!”
Flabbergasted at the sheer audacity, you watch her flip a sign on the table and flee the area.
“Fuck this shit.” Colorful curses leave you as you drop all the books haphazardly on the table and storm away.
Crossing it off the list, you follow the main path to the next errand.
Collect reward from Guild
That commission should have given you one hell of a paycheck the last time you checked. Primogems may be worthless now, but you could use the Mora the commission provides.
Plus, you needed to let them know to change it to the Mondstadt region.
Lost in thought of all the technicalities and paperwork you would have to fill out, you weren't focusing on the fleeting whispers around you.
“Is that them?”
“Who else could it be?”
“What a monster…”
“-as long as we get paid.”
“Who cares about-”
“It's me or them.”
“As long as it's them and not me.”
Your experience at the guild was a much kinder one. Katheryne was the epitome of professionalism, just as you remembered her to be. Not that you expected much else from a robot.
After handing all the written work to her, you finally noticed the absence of a certain person.
“Where’s that grouchy Lan? She's usually here, isn't she?” Checking the vicinity, you try to spot the brown recognizable bob.
“The Branch Master Lan is currently undertaking a commission at this time.”
“About the unseen razor, right?”
“That can not be disclosed to unauthorized-”
“It's fine. I’ll see you later, Katheryne.” Turning around, you leave without another thought. Lan wasn't anywhere near the ‘threatening’ list you've created since you last saw her.
Pick up plushie
Crossing out the previous task, you look at the present one with mixed emotions. On one hand, you were happy to get a chance to see something related to Earth, to your world. But at the same time, you couldn't help but wonder if it would serve more as a distraction than anything else. The memories it brought up never failed to leave your heart troubled…
Remembering the money you spent commissioning it ultimately tipped the scales, and so you dragged your feet to the little old lady’s toy shop.
It was empty just as the first time you were there as she hummed. If she was a vision holder you'd guess Hydro judging by the tranquility she radiated.
Her eyes meet yours and a happy smile slips onto your face without much thought.
“Here to pick up the toy, dearie?”
“Yup.” Popping the ‘p’, you watched as she gathered a delicately wrapped box from under the other boxes and presented it to you.
“Enjoy the nostalgic memories a toy can bring.”
You politely thank her before taking the present and walking away. The weight of the box is heavy with dread, and you can only find solace in the fact she didn't refer to it as ‘happy’ memories.
Once sufficiently out of sight, you take to grasping the lid. But you couldn't bring yourself to remove it.
Too many memories. All of them are rushing in and filled with conflicting feelings that would surely crush you. The fear and selfishness of the broken promises and unfulfilled desires would throw you off your game.
With a little too much enthusiasm, you stuff the box of the cat plushie into your bag.
Most likely to stay forgotten and distant from the present you're facing.
Scratching it off harder than the rest, you get to the last errand.
Refill supplies
A smart and mature move considering how you used the whole Medkit during the chase. The soggy bandages and washed away ointment really hurt your heart and wallet.
Revisiting the same shops you went to the first time proved to be ineffective. Either they were completely sold out or no longer supplying them.
Forced to visit more stores, you had to walk around the city a lot more than you cared to. Each store had one of the two situations, and the skittish actions of everyone around you were just the cherry on top.
At one point you even tried to buy the individual items separately, and even that failed.
It's not like you could just wait till next week for the first shipment. You weren't even sure you would live till then.
Eventually, you found yourself sulking on the lower docks, turning the situation around in your head.
If only you lived in Liyue for a little longer, maybe you could have found some of the hidden shops. Befriend a store owner and get a hidden one.
Just who the hell would even go out of their way to get every medical first aid part when it's such a crucial item for so many people in this era?
A name finally comes to mind and your expression sours at the thought. Not that you’d let it show, Celestia knows how many guards are watching you at this moment-
A sudden, rapid series of taps on your shoulder has you spinning around in surprise.
A young boy stands before you. The clothes he wears has visible wear and tear as the fabric frays from the edges. Yet you can't help but think you might have seen him before.
Placing a finger on his lips, he uses his other hand to grab hold of your elbow and tug you along.
Surprised but not suspicious of the kid, you let him lead you deeper into the docks. The dark red of his eyes seem to glow within the shadows as his dirty blond hair acts as your beacon of light.
The smell of fresh fish turns rotten, and the dirt caked under his fingernails stains your clothes. The complete and straight planks become jagged and creaky as you follow him farther.
But you stayed silent.
You recognized a path to the seedy part of the city when you see it.
Instead, you examine the younger boy with a critical eye and finally connect the dots. He must be one of the kids you saved with Yiran.
A smirk creeps up your face. It seems you managed to use your time wisely in making connections after all.
Following along the twists and turns, you don't worry too much about the Millelith. Most of the guards probably couldn't even get this far. If you had to guess, it would only be the detectives who could keep up.
It's not like the hidden underworld of cities as popular as Liyue Harbor are any big secret to them.
Stalls and various shops fill the area as flickering lanterns and other extra lighting give you a wider view.
Multiple people call out to the boy as he silently waves to them. The gaze of the homeless and shady people around aren't warm, but aren't hostile either.
Not that you were exactly expecting a warm welcome, but at least you didn't have to worry about sudden personality changes.
Money could buy you information, but it wouldn't buy you trust in these parts.
He finally stops at a little nook in the corner of the area. The door is worn down with scratches and marks yet the light you can see under it is warm.
Silent as before, he points at you, then to the rows of shops in a sweeping motion before stopping at the door.
Pinching your brows in slight confusion, you chew on the gestures to understand it. High-pitched laughter that suspiciously sounds like children eases into your ears as the boy squirms in place.
“Did you want me to knock on the door when I'm done shopping? That you'll lead me back to the surface?”
It was the only thing that you can think of. And despite your hesitation, the boy nods, clearly relieved that you understood the message.
He must truly be mute, no doubt from whatever horrors he must have faced that lead to the scars poorly hidden by mud on his arms.
You were thankful either way. Just leading you here was great but getting an exit too was even better. Now you could avoid getting mugged and/or murdered on your way back.
“Thanks man, I'll be quick.” With that, you walk away, already following the invisible path to the shops that caught your eye.
As much as you would have liked to explore the various items and weapons they had, you didn't want to keep the kid waiting.
After having to buy a rather expensive medical kit, a minor downside to finding the first medical anything since you left Bubu’s pharmacy, you pick up a minor stitching case.
You could have really used one during your latest and probably not last chase. Stuffing it into your bag, as people eye the magical item with desire, you quickly find the home.
Getting to the door, you step closer than before and take note of the older voice. A woman that's chuckling, and a lingering sense of guilt invades your mind.
Quickly rapping your knuckles on the wood, you step away as the home goes dead quiet.
Multiple little eyes peer at you from windows below you as you lazily grin and wave. They all scatter as giggling resumes and the sound of playing returns.
But not the woman’s voice. You didn't expect it to. It's hard to face the only person you've poured your raw wounds from a child's death to.
The kid finally steps out with multiple clicks of locks echoing around the small space. Smiling, you take no offense to the action. You weren't here for trust, and they weren't helping you out of it either.
His crimson eyes glisten with interest at your bag. He wants his pay, and you're more than happy to oblige.
Stuffing your hand into the bag, you feel the familiar clink of Mora gathering in your hand. Pulling it out, you place an appropriate amount into the pouch he already has prepared.
When you drop it all, he takes it closer to him and picks up a piece. The first thing he does is try to bite it, and the familiar memory of you testing coins the same way makes you smile sadly.
Counting the Mora, he frowns, clearly displeased with the amount. He holds his hand out, and you can feel the other children’s stares digging into you.
“I'm going to give you two things that aren't Mora, okay? But you have to keep it a secret.”
He narrows his eyes, no doubt suspecting you of being a shady person. That's probably why he brought you here first and demanded payment before returning you.
Like this, he has back up and cornered you further into payment of his choosing.
“Do you have a cooking pot?”
He frowns in confusion before nodding slowly. Lifting one finger in a pause motion, before heading back inside his home.
He returns while holding a clean cooking pot. It doesn’t take long before he places it over the open fire you already started.
Small eyes follow your every step as you dig out ingredients from your bag. Mentally going over the ingredients you had originally prepared for your celebration feast if you survived tonight, you drop them into the pot.
4 ham, 3 crabs, 3 shrimp meat, and 3 matsutake potatoes are dropped in.
Turning around, you count to five as the boy gives you a confused stare. But you only wink at him before turning around to look at the pot, as his eyes widen at the sight.
Adeptus’ Temptation sits innocently in the pot as the rich aroma wafts around the area, drawing curious hungry eyes.
Leaning down, you whisper to the boy.
“Get your friends and bring the pot back into your house quickly. This food is blessed and safe as you watched the whole process. I suggest you let the sickly and injured children eat first.”
He looks between you and the pot with conflicting emotions. On one hand, he can't trust you too much, but even the smell of the food was clearly tempting him.
It's the shuffling of feet getting closer that makes him bang on the door, signalling for the other children to come out and help him bring it inside.
By the time the shabby adults come into view, it's just you and the boy ‘talking’ as they grumble and turn around.
The kid still looks displeased. You don't blame him completely, since how can he trust that the food you cook isn't spiked with anything nefarious.
You're not even sure if it can heal people that aren't acolytes. It doesn't work on you after all.
At least they'll all enjoy a hot meal, even if it doesn't work.
Sighing, you take out your last resort from your bag, sadly selecting it and pulling it out. The secret weapon you've been saving since your time in Inazuma.
The colorful assortment of candy wrappers makes the kid’s eyes sparkle with the childlike glee that was absent since you met him. Probably long before you met him.
“It's not just Liyue candy, some are even from Inazuma.” The thought of giving up your hard-earned candy hurt you, but you let it go.
The candy you squirreled away during the Inazuma festival, and the discount ones you bought at cheap prices at Liyue’s markets, were both never going to be eaten anyway.
His hands reach out to snatch the candy greedily from you but you raise it out of reach at the last second. He stomps his foot in childish indignation as you chuckle.
“Sorry, but I need you to bring me back to the outside before you scam me out of any more goodies.”
Finally giving up, he grabs your elbow again and leads you back through the streets. You enjoy the sights as he leads you zigzagging through the stalls.
You can't help but wonder if any detectives are still watching your boring little interactions. Admittedly, you played into the kid's desires more then you had to.
But you couldn't stop yourself from doing so when all you could see in him was yourself when you were that height.
The sun comes into light as the dim lanterns fade away. Like this, you can see his features once more as the stomping of soldiers return.
His eyes scan the area at the sound, but he keeps his hands open for the sweet treats. Smiling, you drop the candy into his open palms before he rushes off with a beaming boyish grin.
Stretching as you walk up the planks to the surface, you finally cross off the last item and drop it into the nearby trash can.
You try to ignore how it disappears when you turn the corner.
------------------------------------
Time ticks down slowly, and you aren't looking forward to seeing Madam Ping just yet. Besides, you made a long-overdue promise to someone else beforehand.
Starting up at the somewhat hidden Funeral Parlor, you push the door open with a casual; “Hey, I'm here to meet up with the Director of this fine and totally not macabre establishment.”
The receptionist blinks at your sudden words before a cheery voice responds from behind her.
“You sure took your time, Y/N. I almost wondered if you up and died before I got a chance to have you purchase one of our very convenient and practical deals!”
Yet again, Hu Tao was right on the money about you being close to death. Idly, you wonder if you look half as dead as you feel.
The receptionist is more than happy to slip away as her boss bounds up to you with that elemental ghost hovering around her.
Flower pupils stare into your eyes, giving you a vague sense of unease as Hu Tao examines you from various angles.
“Yup, yup! Just as I suspected. You are in desperate need of escape, and it seems the only way you'll be getting it is in death. My honest suggestion is that you buy a coffin from us and lead a hedonist lifestyle to enjoy the few years you have left.”
“Thanks for the vote of confidence.” You dryly respond as she nods approvingly.
“A business needs to be honest for it to succeed in the long-term. Trust of the customers is one of the biggest key factors.”
Not willing to argue on a topic you were admittedly clueless on, you follow her deeper into the Parlor.
“Then you got any good deals for a traveling adventurer like me who could be dead halfway across the world?”
She sighs, exaggerating it to the utmost while circling you. “I thought deeply on the topic and while the Wangshsng Funeral Parlor has grown enough to reach all of Liyue and a good amount of Mondstadt and Sumeru, we still haven't grown enough to pair up with each region.”
Passing by multiple doors, your eyes scan for a clue on where she was leading you.
“But considering you're the most eager customer I've had concerning their own death, I decided to present you with a special deal.”
“Wouldn't suicidal people also be enthusiastic in this topic?”
“They're usually more focused on the moment and their own afterlife, instead of the corpse they leave behind. Besides-!”
Whipping around to look at you with a knowing grin, she lays a hand decorated in rings on the handle.
“You aren't that far from being called a suicidal person yourself, Y/N!”
Before you can question her on those words, she swings the door open to show multiple rows of various coffins.
“The special offer I'm giving you is to purchase a coffin and I will personally escort your wandering soul to the border for proper peace.”
Tearing your eyes from the admittedly impressive collection of varying caskets, you have the sense to ask her a question. “So, what's the point in me buying a coffin if my body ends up in the waters of Fontaine? And how could I even trust that you have the ability to escort souls?”
From what you remember, Hu Tao should have no clue about your oracle status, so logically you should act oblivious to her connection with the border. Would you even be able to cross the border? It’s not like you were born on Teyvat like her other customers.
Unless Zhongli told her, but that would require more of an explanation on his behalf that he wouldn't want to do.
“Very good question, dear customer!” She spins around to face you once more, her long twin tails swinging during the motion.
“Even if your body is irretrievable for whatever reason, the Wangsheng Funeral Parlor will deem your casket full after I guide your soul.”
The atmosphere visibly shifts after she speaks. The room darkens as the lanterns flicker, her back lowers in a familiar position as a cold phantom touch caresses your hand.
“You of all people should know why and how I'm able to guide souls. After all, I wouldn't expect anything less from an Oracle of the Creator.”
A crooked grin makes its way to your face as goosebumps raise on your skin. Hu Tao’s ‘threatening’ words of knowing your identity were like the sweetest song to your ears.
Finally, all your hard work in creating connections and stabilizing your identity has paid off. Acolytes you've barely begun conversing with already see you as an Oracle.
“Should I applaud you or something, Director? Or should I just accept the deal and make us both happy?”
Hu Tao laughs at your words as you take confident strides to stand by her side.
“I would appreciate the second option much more!” Signature flower pupils drink your smiling visage in with delight before her hand grasps yours in a tight hold.
“Now, if you will, I'll introduce all these amazing coffin and casket types for you to ask about and choose between.”
There's no time to protest, not that you would as she pulls you along excitedly as butterflies made of Pyro brush against your cheek.
------------------------------
Somehow you and Hu Tao had managed to look at every single coffin type in existence. A style, color and even additional design to it has already been decided.
You're just left with choosing the best wood for it.
Hu Tao wanted to stay with you throughout the whole process, but an important matter came up again, making her complain loudly as she left.
But before she did, she insisted on sending one of her employees to help you in choosing, as ‘the wood is a vital part of the process!’.
So now you're left waiting in the absolutely quiet room, with only the sound of your own breathing accompanying you.
Looking down at the two coffins made of different wood, you waited for this employee. A small smirk played on your lips as you heard the door audibly click shut.
The thumping of shoes coming closer was silent, but the slight hitch of breath gave away how close your new consultant was.
“White cedar wood and Teck wood are both very fine choices. Though I would consider the Catalpa wood two rows down to be the best choices considering your position.”
Hot air fans your skin as the knowledgeable words spoken in that low timber light your nerves aflame.
Turning around, you look into amber eyes that remain steadfast on your face. His outfit is pristine and there's not a single evidence of the battle he was left to fight on him.
“If that answers your last question for the coffin customization, then would you mind stepping outside with me?”
Waving your hand, you dismiss his words without hesitation. “We can do so after I check out the Catalpa wood you recommended.”
Your head angles to the side to look at him with a teasing grin. “I know it's your retirement, but you of all people should know that rushing a job is never good.”
A long-suffering sigh leaves Zhongli as you walk away to the Catalpa coffin, before he follows you.
More than happy to kill time like this, you feel the wood under your fingertips in a smooth stripe.
“Catalpa wood was and is still often used as an outer coffin for the jade inner coffin that Liyue officials were buried in. Not only can it be carved fluidly, but it is also very resistant to decay, unlike other ornamental wood. Its stability is quite underrated, with only the drying to be a tad problematic. And even that will be for us to deal with.”
Vaguely you wonder if this information was inserted into the game based off China’s own history or if Teyvat really did age throughout many years to build its own history.
“That’s why I recommended this type of wood to you. While you’re not officially a member of the Qixing or other affairs, your position of oracle is enough to warrant such a valued coffin.”
“Are you trying to convince me to buy it for your job, or are you trying to flatter me for your proposal?”
“You may see it as both, neither, or one of the two. I'm simply here as the consultant. I am to assist you with all of your decision-making inside this building.”
A huff of laughter leaves you before you tap on the casket. “Then I'll go along with what you want and take this wood.”
Zhongli nods, not bothering to write it down as his memory must be far greater than you care to imagine.
His gloved hand is displayed to you in a silent question, but before you can move, he removes the glove.
Quizzically, you raise an eyebrow before placing your hand on his now bare one. Peering at his face from your place you note the slightest blush on his otherwise composed expression.
Smiling to yourself, you allow his fingers to intertwine with your own as he guides you out of the side door. Following him blindly up the staircase, past a set of rooms, another staircase till you finally arrive at the roof.
Zhongli squeezes your hand one last time, clearly relishing in the touch of your calloused fingertips before letting you go.
“I've waited patiently for you, Y/N. What is your answer to my marriage proposal?”
His eyes stare at yours with unshakable firmness. In a sense, it's endearing, and you make it clear by smiling widely.
“It's a no from me.” That resolute expression cracks and his mouth drops open before it's slammed shut at your bright laughter.
But even his poorly concealed embarrassed expression can't smother the blood rushing to his cheeks as his ears hang onto every addictive note that leaves your lips.
This has taken a long time. Like super long. I haven't dropped this series, just have lots of school work to complete and exams to study for. Like I literally have one tomorrow. My editor did me a solid and highlighted the parts that I had to fill in after I gave the mostly completed document for editing. When I have to write the next chapter, it'll take a bit as I gotta reread for recalibration. Taglist is open as always!

Tumblr media
⠀‣ Beidou
About The Creator: Relaxation
"We had to bring them to Inazuma for a few times, apparently they really wanted to travel with The Crux. Take important person like this isn't really what we do but you know my eye for people, Y/n seemed to be more than what we heard, they were a good travel buddy, playing with the crew and telling interesting stories from another world. Sad, the guards with them don't let them drink 'A drunk God in Inazuma? What would they think?'... But who cares what they think, they should let them have a bit of fun!"
About The Creator: Consort
"You can say traveling has brought us closer, haha! I'm really happy to have find someone like them. I'll never forget the celebration we had on the ship, the weather was kind to us this day, and the food was far better than what we're used to eat, and how could I forgot the drinks, I never saw Y/n that... wild, it's quite the experience, but it's good to see them without having to worry about anything."
⠀‣ Chongyun
About The Creator
"Like me they have an energy that keeps away evil spirits from them, I suppose spirits are too scared to approach in fear of vanishing into fin air. So, I wonder why people still ask me thinking they need an exorcism, last time, we called me because apparently the Creator had an unusual behavior, rambling unknown words beyond any language experts' knowledge, turned out they just had too many drinks with the leader of The Crux..."
⠀‣ Ganyu
About The Creator: Relating
"The Qixing had to work a few times with them, and I noticed they always seem a bit anxious so I always try to help them when I can, maybe it's also because I relate to them a bit, they are our Creator but they act more like a mortal, they are trapped between two worlds, leading to confusion not only for them but also others, which would always lead to critiques..."
About The Creator: Consort
"I have still a lot to finish about this, people from all regions will come so we need to strengthen the Millelith to keep everything in order, the music group that was supposed to perform left us so I have to look through the applications again, I need to verify the special invitations just in case there's an error in the date or location. Also, I'll have to go soon for the Sumeru's flowers that should arrive this afternoon. An union between who, you ask? O-Oh... me and Y/n of course! Sorry if I wasn't clear. There's no need to worry about me, I just want everything to be perfect, I don't think I will be able to not blame myself if something bad happened, I know Y/n told me they'll be happy no matter what as long as I'm with them, but that just makes me want to work more for a perfect ceremony."
⠀‣ Hu Tao
About The Creator
"Even the most superior being needs a long rest sometimes, if it's meant to happen again, the Wangsheng Funeral Parlor would be more than honored to prepare a noble ceremony for their departure. Better be quick, and offer them our buy one get one free special!"
⠀‣ Keqing
About The Creator
"Due to their return, people expect them to rule over Teyvat, which includes Liyue. People also pray to them for the minor inconvenients... *sigh* We can't rely on Gods for everything, we're perfectly capable to survive as our own, and Y/n don't seem convinced to govern alone, even before their death it was never said that the Creator was the one who ruled Teyvat, they simply enjoyed interacting with their creations."
⠀‣ Ningguang
About The Creator: Tour
"It is a great pleasure to welcome a such honorable guest into Liyue, especially when they were the one who helped us to save our nation. As the Tianquan I was more than glad to have the chance to make them visit the city, it was cute to see them insisting to pay even with no mora on them."
About The Creator: Consort
"I've heard people telling that I accepted their proposal to make my items more valuable and attract more persons to come and make deals in Liyue. In short, our marriage is just a business partnership and not an act of pure love. You... don't believe that, do you? Y/n is worth more than any amount of mora for me, and not because they're the Creator. I know I don't need to prove myself to anyone but I'm concerned if one day Y/n will listen to those rumors."
⠀‣ Qiqi
About The Creator
"I don't remember who this is... Sorry."
About Y/n
"Y/n is the one who gave me a finch, I named it just like them because they're both nice with me, so when I forgot one of them I just need to look at the other to remember... Uhh, who were we talking about?"
⠀‣ Shenhe
About The Creator: Disciple
"My family was from a clan of exorcists so they were followers of them, the clan sent prayers and asked for blessings when performing an exorcism. When my mother died, not only did my father abandon me but them too. Maybe that's why I became one of the Acolytes."
About The Creator: Consort
"My master insisted to meet Y/n, not only because they're the Creator but my partner, she wanted to meet the one who 'tamed my heart'. When they did meet, let's say both of their personalities didn't really match well together which gave... an interesting show, but at the end they agreed to share and listen to stories of my childhood..."
⠀‣ Xiangling
About The Creator
"They told me about dishes from their other world, just hearing about them makes my stomach growl, I'd love cook those dishes if they ever feel homesick, not only can food be delicious but bring warm feelings, and not just because it's hot! But I also love making them try food from here and they always seem to like and excited when I bring them a nice cooked meal!"
⠀‣ Xiao
About The Creator: Unusual
"They're a God, the oldest one, and yet their body and mind are just as weird and vulnerable as a human."
About The Creator: Consort
"Hm... Yes, about that. Could you help me with something? They always seem to care about me a lot, trying to heal me and making me food, even though I need none of this, but I heard it's expected to show gratitude to the person who cares about you. Since they act more like a human, I don't know what should I offer them. Flowers? Hm... Maybe something that gives me more work, picking up flowers isn't enough to thank them for everything they have done for me. Flowers crowns? I mean... I guess I can try to make one. You think that would make them smile if I had one too? Fine... Show me how to do it."
⠀‣ Xingqiu
About The Creator
"Ah, they're quite the difficult topic to avoid. My presence was required when my family invited them for a warm welcome to Liyue, I cannot say more as it was a private meeting, but I didn't imagine them with such a casual and clumsy personality, if you would have seen the faces of my father and brother, hehe... Just to say another meeting won't come anytime soon."
⠀‣ Xinyan
About The Creator
"Who'd think that someone like them would like my performance? Even better, they encourage it! I mean, that's understandable, staying with the most uptight persons and doing boring work all day... Can't even imagine the nightmare, they certainly got the rock 'n' roll's spirit!"
⠀‣ Yanfei
About The Creator
"Ah... Yes, I'm aware that because of their position we allow them more than we should, but it's not like anyone mind or they do anything bad, the worse that happened was them and Xinyan being a bit too loud. I've heard of a fireworks show in all of Inazuma and a wanted gang getting out of prison, but it's outside of my territory to talk furthermore."
⠀‣ Yaoyao
About The Creator
"They're always so heavily guarded, so you can always be sure they are in good health with no injuries, but I do worry about how they feel with being followed by people who watch your every move all day. So, whenever I see them, I ask how are they and I always have a ration of their favorite food with me. If you encounter them, tell hi from me and to take care!"
⠀‣ Yelan
About The Creator: Easy target
"If you knew the number of cases related to them, from little scammers to hitmen, there sure is a great variety. Since the Creator has a more powerful influence than strength, criminals think they are the perfect target for great sum of mora, but they sometimes underestimate a bit too much those close to the Creator and I'm not talking about the Millelith."
About The Creator: Consort
"Shh, not so loud. Surprised, aren't we? That means we're doing a good job at keeping it as a secret. I don't want to be known and blow up my cover, plus with the danger it can attract to them, so we can't announce it publicly but it's not that bad, seeing others thinking they have a chance with them is a funny show, unless Y/n feels uncomfortable, to this I'll attend to it personally when nobody is watching."
⠀‣ Yun Jin
About The Creator
" 'Through a simple whisper, thousands winds started to blow. Hands drew a river, rising waves emerged from the flow. Love was poured into the earth, and life began to grow~' Aren't these beautiful lyrics? There's a few operas about the Creator as we didn't know them much. We invited them but they appeared a bit embarrassed, which I can understand, so I try to sing tales that aren't about them and might fit their taste. I'm used to hear praises but their enthusiasm about my singing never fails to delight me."
⠀‣ Zhongli
About The Creator: Hopeful future
"I was surprised to hear about their reincarnation, especially about memories from another world. I had the occasions to talk to them, even if they may seem lost sometimes and lack experiences, the love they share for this world is real and the people around them returns this feeling, with a modern and ambitious mind like them, I'm sure the future of Teyvat will be bright."
About The Creator: Consort
"You want to know more about our contract? Well, our feelings for each other were mutual and we had the same promise which was to keep the other safe and happy, naturally we came to do the ultimate promise to stay together until death separates us, but I fear even this won't be able to break our contract, one that I shall forever cherish and respect. They're quite busy but I stay patient for them to come and see me when they finish with tea that I prepared for relaxing them after a stressful day."

first; while it may not have been love at first sight, they couldn’t help but fall head over heels for you faster than anyone, even themselves, could expect. even if they didn’t admit it, you could tell as soon as it happened
— Amber, Jean, Lisa, Beidou, Hu Tao, Gorou, Thoma, Yoimiya, Dehya, Nilou
harder; they weren’t necessarily meaning to fall in love, the idea was something that didn’t seem like they really deserved it or that it wasn’t something they could really do anyways. the moment they realized they were in love though, however, it hit them hard and they were definitely not losing you now
— Albedo, Diluc, Kaeya, Ningguang, Shenhe, Zhongli, Scaramouche, Al Haitham, Cyno
both; they fell in love fast and hard. they didn’t mean for it to happen but they weren’t going to complain. the way they fell in love was like riding in the front seat of a roller coaster going down the first drop. they didn’t want to lose that feeling and they certainly didn’t want to lose you
— Venti, Childe, Ganyu, Heizou, Itto, Kazuha, Tighnari

Tumblr media
Y/n couldn't help but feel a flutter in her chest every time she saw Zhongli in the crowded hallways of their high school. He was her senior, an enigmatic figure with an air of sophistication that left everyone in awe. The first time he had tutored her, Y/n found herself captivated not just by the subject matter, but by the gentle way he explained things, his voice resonating like a calming melody.
One day after school, Y/n found herself nervously approaching Zhongli's desk. "Um, excuse me, Zhongli-senpai," she stammered, her heart pounding in her chest.
Zhongli looked up from his books, his amber eyes meeting hers. "Ah, Y/n. Is there something you need assistance with?"
She fumbled with her words, feeling her cheeks heat up. "I, um, I was wondering if you could, you know, help me with this math problem. It's giving me a hard time."
A small smile graced Zhongli's lips. "Of course. Sit down, and we'll go through it together."
As Zhongli patiently explained the problem, Y/n couldn't help but steal glances at him. She admired the way his hair fell gracefully over his forehead and the focused expression he wore while teaching.
"Do I have something on my face?" Zhongli asked, catching Y/n staring.
Her cheeks flushed even deeper, and she shook her head vigorously. "No, no! I was just, um, really concentrating on what you were saying."
Zhongli chuckled softly, finding her nervousness endearing. "Very well. Let's continue."
Unbeknownst to Y/n, her best friend Hu Tao was observing the entire scene from across the room giggling to herself. Later that day, as they walked home together, Y/n couldn't contain her excitement.
"Hu Tao, you won't believe what happened today! I got to spend time with Zhongli-senpai, and he helped me with math!"
Hu Tao grinned mischievously. "Oh, spill the details! Did you make your move?"
Y/n blushed furiously. "N-no, I couldn't! I was too nervous. But he's just so amazing, and his voice is like a warm hug, and…"
Hu Tao laughed heartily. "You're head over heels, aren't you? Hmm You both would be a great match."
Tumblr media
As the tutoring sessions continued, Y/n found herself growing more comfortable around Zhongli. Despite her initial nervousness, she realized that Zhongli was not only a brilliant tutor but also a patient and understanding mentor.
Once, as they sat side by side working on a particularly challenging problem, Y/n was completely engrossed in her notebook. Zhongli observed her intense concentration, his own fascination growing. As she furrowed her brow in deep thought, a stray strand of hair fell over her face.
Unable to resist the urge, Zhongli gently reached out and tucked the errant strand behind her ear. Y/n's heart skipped a beat at the unexpected touch, and she froze, her cheeks flushing a deep shade of red.
"Uh, thank you," she stammered, trying to regain her composure.
Zhongli merely smiled, his eyes crinkling at the corners. "You seemed a bit distracted. I thought it might help."
Tumblr media
Breathless and exhilarated, Y/n rushed to find Hu Tao immediately after her tutoring session with Zhongli. Bursting into their usual meeting spot, she couldn't contain her excitement.
"Hu Tao! You won't believe what just happened," Y/n exclaimed, her eyes sparkling with a mixture of joy and nervous energy.
Hu Tao looked up from her book, a mischievous glint in her eyes. "Spill it, Y/n! Did Zhongli finally realize you're the one for him?"
Y/n blushed furiously, her heart racing. "Well, not exactly, but something incredible happened! We were solving this difficult problem, and then Zhongli, he—"
Hu Tao interrupted with a teasing grin, "Did he confess his undying love for you? Did he declare that you are the missing piece of his soul?"
Y/n giggled, shaking her head. "No, nothing like that. But he… he touched my hair! Like, he tucked a strand behind my ear!"
Hu Tao's eyes widened, and she let out an exaggerated gasp. "Oh, the scandal! Zhongli making moves! Tell me everything!"
As Y/n recounted the tutoring session and Zhongli's subtle gestures, Hu Tao listened with a mixture of amusement and excitement. She couldn't resist teasing her friend relentlessly.
"So, what's your next move, Y/n? Are you going to confess your undying love to him under the cherry blossom tree?" Hu Tao teased.
Y/n rolled her eyes playfully. "Oh, please! I don't even know if he likes me like that. But it felt… special, you know?"
Hu Tao leaned in, a sly grin on her face. "Special, huh? Well, you better keep me updated on this love story. Who knows, maybe I'll be planning your wedding soon!"
Tumblr media
The next day, as Y/n excitedly headed to school, she couldn't help but feel a pang of disappointment when Zhongli was nowhere to be found. She looked around the familiar spots where they usually met, hoping to catch a glimpse of his tall figure or catch his distinctive amber eyes in the crowd, but he was conspicuously absent.
Feeling a bit downcast, Y/n trudged back home after school. Lost in her thoughts, she wandered through the streets with a hint of melancholy in her steps. However, fate had a surprise in store for her.
As she turned a corner, her eyes caught sight of a small cat sitting by the roadside. The cat had a regal air about it, with amber eyes that seemed to mirror Zhongli's. Intrigued, Y/n approached the feline cautiously.
"You look just like Zhongli-senpai," she murmured, reaching out to pet the cat. To her surprise, the cat purred contentedly, rubbing against her hand as if it understood the compliment.
Y/n couldn't help but smile at the adorable creature. She looked around, expecting an owner to appear, but there was no one in sight. It seemed like the cat was a stray, left to wander the streets alone.
A spontaneous idea struck her. "You know what? If you don't have a home, I can be your Zhongli," she said, scooping up the cat into her arms.
The feline seemed to enjoy the attention, nuzzling against Y/n's neck. Taking this as a sign, Y/n decided on the spot. "From now on, you're my little Zhongli. How about that?"
The cat, seemingly in agreement, let out a soft meow. Y/n giggled, feeling a warmth in her heart.
Tumblr media
As Y/n tried to bathe the cat, she quickly realized that her new feline friend was anything but cooperative. Every attempt to bring him near water was met with agile jumps and a swift retreat. After several failed tries, Y/n sighed in defeat, watching as the cat diligently licked itself clean.
Tired but amused, Y/n decided to continue her day. She settled at her desk, the cat now comfortably on her lap, its eyes following her every move with curiosity. Y/n, being the talkative person she was, couldn't resist continuing her one-sided conversation about Zhongli.
"You know, little Zhongli, you're lucky you don't have to deal with exams and high school drama. Zhongli-senpai is probably somewhere out there, unaware that he's become the subject of my daily gushing sessions," she mused, absentmindedly scratching behind the cat's ears.
As she rambled on, Y/n picked up the cat, holding it close to her face. "Are you Zhongli?" she asked with a playful grin.
To her surprise, the cat seemed to nod furiously, a comical sight that made Y/n burst into laughter. She couldn't believe what she was thinking—Zhongli turning into a cat? It seemed too absurd to be true.
"Imagine if you really were Zhongli. That would be the most ironic twist ever. The great HANDSOMEEEEE Zhongli reduced to a tiny, fluffy cat," Y/n chuckled, holding the cat in her arms.
The cat, now giving her a deadpan look, remained in her arms.
Tumblr media
Y/n woke up with a start as the persistent tapping on her face continued. Groggily, she opened her eyes to find the cat furiously pawing at her. Confused, she checked the time and gasped. She was late for school!
"Ugh, why didn't my alarm go off?" Y/n muttered, rushing to get ready. The cat, seemingly understanding the urgency, slipped out of the room as Y/n hurriedly got dressed.
Later, as she raced through her morning routine, the cat reappeared, sitting patiently by the door. Y/n couldn't help but smile at the adorable sight.
"Thanks for the wake-up call," she said, giving the cat a quick peck on its forehead. To her surprise, the cat seemed almost shy, its gaze dropping as if bashful.
Y/n quickly grabbed a piece of bread for herself and another for her newfound feline companion. As she placed the bread in front of the cat, she chuckled. "Never had a breakfast buddy before, especially one with fur."
The cat tentatively approached the bread, sniffing it before taking a small bite. Y/n couldn't help but find the whole situation amusing. It was like having a quirky sidekick to accompany her on this unexpected adventure.
"Okay, little Zhongli, wish me luck at school. Hopefully, I won't be too late," Y/n said, giving the cat one last pat before heading out the door.
Tumblr media
As Y/n entered the school premises, she couldn't shake off the disappointment of not seeing Zhongli once again. Her usual excitement for the day was replaced by a lingering concern for her mysterious tutor. She decided to confide in Hu Tao during their lunch break.
"Hu Tao, have you seen Zhongli-senpai today? He's been absent for two days now," Y/n voiced her worry.
Hu Tao, ever the cheerful friend, tried to reassure her. "Oh, don't worry too much, Y/n. Maybe he's just under the weather or caught a cold. These things happen to the best of us."
"But two days in a row? It's not like him," Y/n mumbled, her thoughts lingering on Zhongli's absence.
Hu Tao grinned mischievously. "Maybe he's secretly planning a surprise for you. You never know!"
Y/n rolled her eyes at Hu Tao's playful suggestion. "You and your wild imagination. Anyway, speaking of surprises, you won't believe what happened. I found this stray cat, and it looks exactly like Zhongli!"
Hu Tao's eyes widened in surprise. "A cat that looks like Zhongli? Now that's intriguing. Tell me more!"
During their conversation, Y/n decided to do something special for her newfound feline friend. After school, she headed to a nearby pet shop and bought a pretty collar, adorned with a tiny bell. She thought it would be a fitting accessory for the cat that bore a striking resemblance to Zhongli.
Once home, as she opened the door, she was greeted by the sight of the cat waiting patiently. It seemed to sense her arrival and trotted over, its tail swaying with excitement.
"Look what I got for you!" Y/n exclaimed, attaching the collar around the cat's neck. The bell jingled softly, and the cat tilted its head, as if appreciating the gesture.
Tumblr media
Y/n slumped into her chair, staring at her unfinished homework with a heavy sigh. Today, the weight of worry for Zhongli and the nervousness about her own feelings had left her feeling particularly unmotivated. She glanced over at the cat, her newfound confidante, and began to pour out her thoughts.
"You won't believe the day I've had, little Zhongli. Zhongli-senpai hasn't shown up for two days, and I'm getting more and more worried. What if something's happened to him? It's not like him to be absent for so long," she lamented.
The cat blinked at her, its eyes filled with an odd mix of understanding and curiosity. Y/n continued, finding solace in the company of her feline friend.
"And then there's this other thing," she confessed, fidgeting with a pencil. "I've been thinking a lot about… well, about Zhongli-senpai. I'm afraid to admit it, even to myself. What if he doesn't feel the same way? What if it ruins our friendship? It's driving me crazy!"
As she rambled on, the cat sat there, listening intently, as if comprehending every word. Y/n chuckled, realizing the absurdity of talking to a cat about her romantic concerns.
"I mean, who am I kidding, right? Confessing my feelings to Zhongli-senpai would be like trying to scale a Geo construct with my bare hands—impossible!" she exclaimed, throwing her hands up in mock exasperation.
The cat, however, continued to gaze at her with those mysterious amber eyes. Y/n couldn't help but feel a strange comfort in the silent presence of her furry friend.
"Maybe I'm just overthinking everything. People come and go, feelings change. But you, little Zhongli, you're a constant. A fluffy, silent companion who doesn't judge or question. Maybe I should take a lesson from you," she mused, scratching the cat behind its ears.
The cat, seemingly content, purred softly.
Tumblr media
The weekend rolled in, bringing with it a welcome break from the routine of school. Y/n decided to spend her free time doing something she loved—baking. The kitchen was soon filled with the delightful aroma of cookies and pastries, and the cat, ever curious, jumped around, occasionally sniffing at the tantalizing scents.
As Y/n kneaded the dough, she couldn't help but think about Zhongli and how he might enjoy the sweets she was preparing. She voiced her thoughts aloud, looking at the cat, who seemed to be listening attentively.
"I wonder if Zhongli-senpai has a sweet tooth. I mean, who wouldn't love these delicious treats, right?" Y/n chuckled, watching the cat with a playful grin. "Do you think he'd like them? Maybe I should make something special for him if he ever shows up again."
The cat, in response, leaped onto the countertop, nudging a bag of flour with its paw as if giving its approval. Y/n laughed, finding the cat's antics endearing.
"Alright, alright, you win. I'll make some extra for Zhongli-senpai, just in case," she declared, reaching over to give the cat a playful pat.
The cat, seemingly satisfied, observed the baking process with keen interest. Y/n couldn't help but enjoy the domestic scene, the warmth of the oven, the comforting presence of her feline friend, and the anticipation of sharing the treats with Zhongli.
As the weekend unfolded, filled with the aroma of freshly baked goodies and the playful antics of the cat, Y/n couldn't shake off the hope that Zhongli would return soon.
Tumblr media
As Y/n drifted off to sleep, her exhaustion caught up with her, and she found comfort in snuggling with the cat. Unbeknownst to her, the cat sensed a change in the air, a shift in its feline instincts. Silently, it slipped away from Y/n's embrace, leaving her undisturbed in her peaceful slumber.
The next morning, Y/n woke up to an empty room. Confused, she looked around, calling out for the cat. But there was no response. Dejectedly, she got ready for school, hoping the cat would return.
Surprisingly, as she approached her classroom, there stood Zhongli, looking somewhat nervous. Y/n's heart skipped a beat at the unexpected sight.
"Zhongli-senpai! You're back!" she exclaimed, a mixture of surprise and joy in her voice.
Zhongli nodded, a faint smile playing on his lips. "Yes, I wanted to apologize for my absence. I've been dealing with some matters, but I'm here now."
Y/n couldn't help but notice the subtle change in Zhongli's demeanor. There was a nervousness in his eyes that she hadn't seen before.
In a moment of vulnerability, Zhongli took a deep breath and confessed, "Y/n, there's something I've been meaning to tell you. I… I like you. A lot. More than I initially realized."
Y/n's eyes widened in surprise, her heart racing at Zhongli's unexpected admission. The realization dawned on her, and a smile crept across her face.
"Zhongli-senpai, I… I like you too," she confessed, her cheeks tinted with a blush.
The two stood there, a moment of shared understanding and newfound connection. Zhongli, with a gentle smile, suggested, "How about we walk home together after school today? There's something I'd like to discuss with you."
Tumblr media
After school, the atmosphere between Y/n and Zhongli was a bit shy, both feeling the subtle awkwardness of being a new couple. As they walked, Zhongli couldn't help but feel a twinge of nervousness. He reached into his pocket and pulled out the collar with the tiny bell, the same one Y/n had given to the cat.
Y/n noticed the collar and smiled. "Oh, is that for your cat? It's quite mischievous but adorable. Does it belong to you?"
Zhongli chuckled, a blush creeping onto his cheeks. "Well, you could say that the cat was… me."
Y/n blinked, processing his words. "Wait, what? You were the cat?"
Zhongli nodded, a mix of embarrassment and amusement in his eyes. "Yes, it's a long story. I'll explain everything."
As Y/n processed the unexpected revelation, Zhongli continued, "You see, I was an accidental subject of Albedo's experiments from the Science class. Long story short, I turned into a cat. Meeting you in that form was a pure coincidence."
Y/n couldn't help but burst into laughter, finding the idea both absurd and amusing. "Zhongli-senpai, you're quite the funny man. A cat? Really?"
Zhongli's blush deepened, and he cleared his throat. "Well, it's a complicated situation. I didn't expect to meet you under those circumstances."
Y/n couldn't believe the twist in the tale. "So, all those conversations I had with the cat were actually with you?"
Zhongli nodded, a hint of sheepishness in his expression. "Yes, it seems you shared quite a lot with me."
Y/n, feeling a mix of embarrassment and amusement, wished the ground would swallow her whole. Zhongli, sensing her discomfort, gently took her hand. "I'll explain everything, I promise. It's quite a tale."

MISSION IMPOSSIBLE: GETTING YOU UNDER THE MISTLETOE FT. XIAO contents // pining, friends to lovers, siblings! hutao & qiqi, requited love notes // this is mainly xiao's pov and he thinks you don't like him back. also, if it's not implied enough, you're aware that xiao likes you but you want him to make the first move. i kind of gave up at the end when i was building this up. baba - dad, gege - older brother & jiejie - older sister masterlist
it was nearly time for the christmas party xiao's family is throwing and of course, his best friend who he is not at all in love with, name is invited. name always have been coming to his family's celebrations but why does it feel different now?
maybe because his sisters are trying to insist him to finally confess the feelings, he has had harboring for 17 years. "xiao, you can't keep stumbling around and acting stupid around them because you like them. it's kind of hard to watch, right, qiqi?" hu tao said, turning to the 10 years old on the couch. she was about to answer until,
xiao rolled his eyes, crossing his arms, "don't answer that, qiqi."
qiqi closed her mouth as hu tao kept saying, "qiqi, you know i'm right. isn't it hard to see xiao kicking his legs and giggling after name leaves."
xiao's neutral bitch face morphed in fear, wallowing in self conciousness. is it really that bad?
the little lavender haired girl paused to think about it and sadly, to xiao's demise, "hmm... jiejie, i do think it's weird to see gege with cooties. i think uncle baizhu has medicine for it."
oh god, it really is that bad.
letting whatever qiqi said sink into xiao's shoulders, hu tao walked away to the closet, pulling out a white board stand. it squeaked, hu tao said, "exactly, which is why i made a plan." on the whiteboard, it said in bolded letters, "mission impossible: xianame christmas edition".
if you looked closely, you could see the faint words of previous "mission impossible"'s that xiao rejected and hu tao had to wipe off. xiao was nearly go along with the plan but skeptical of hu tao because usually, she's a trickster, there's always something up her sleeve.
"another plan?" xiao replied, furrowing a brow. hu tao skipped around, chirping,
"yep! this time it would work, i swear." hu tao's hand resting on the board's shelf.
"you swear? you said this last time on halloween last year and scared name nearly to death."
"i didn't scare them to death..." hu tao trailed off. "they only fainted."
"isn't it the same?" xiao asked. hu tao could tell that he was growing even more skeptical of the plan. as his sister, she knew that she needed to swerve away from that and push him into confessing. it's really embarrassing to see him try to make a move only to get rejected or mid-way change the plan.
"no! anyway, my new and foolproof plan is that since it's christmas," hu tao flipped the board with her other hand. "we can use the mistletoe as our advantage and use it for a romantic moment where you confess your feelings to name. i even asked dad about this and he agreed to it."
mistletoe? isn't that kissing?
"really, you got dad to agree to this."
"yes, and sure you might catch cooties." behind them, qiqi winced out of ickiness. "but better than nothing right?"
xiao stood there for a moment, rethinking about this. "are you sure it would happen perfectly? we don't even know if name likes me back."
"ummm, maybe the christmas spirit would enchant them." hu tao shrugged as xiao's eyes narrowed.
"i don't want a spirit to enchant them. that's not ethinical."
"xiao, don't shame on the spirits. they're very kind, y'know. anyway, the offer still stands but for a priceeeeee." hu tao replied, smiling. smiling like the devil, xiao knew something was up.
"what is it?"
"invite your second bestest friend ever over." hu tao chirped, hands together in a ball across her chest. she patted her eyes, coming closer to xiao, as xiao extended his hand out, creating a distance between himself and his sister.
"who?"
"yanfei!"
xiao tilted his head, hands still crossed. "yanfei? im not friends with yanfei."
"but if you want this plan to really work..." hu tao trailed off, hoping the bait she laid would catch her older brother. until qiqi said, "gege, i think jiejie has caught cooties too."
hu tao nervously laughed, "qiqi, i don't think-"
"ok, ill invite yanfei to the party but if this little christmas plan doesn't work, you're not allowed to make any more, got it?"
"oh my god, thank you sooo much, gege!! you're the bestest older brother anyone could ever have."
---
it was almost time for the party, the house was decked out with decorations. although the usual red and green theme is what christmas is, xiao's family preferred the gold and red theme. in the kitchen, gingerbread houses were prepped to be put together. as dad helped hu tao place mistletoes around the house, giggling each time. "dad, isn't this bow kind of off centered?"
"hm, i do think it is off centered. do you want me to fix it?" he asked, holding onto the ladder. hu tao replied with a no.
if you looked around you would see the each archway of a room would have a mistletoe, although, none of them are upstairs in their rooms. qiqi asked if she wouldn't be kissed because she didn't want to go to uncle baizhu's home for the vaccine for cooties. xiao made a mental note to tell baizhu to stop telling her that cooties exist when in reality, they are not.
xiao was pacing around the living room again, qiqi was following him like a little duckling. "gege, are you worried about the plan? i think i have vaccines for the cooties. i think though."
"no, it's fine, qiqi." he picked her up, holding her. "do you think it would go wrong?"
qiqi huffed, "no. i see name and they like you. i think i saw them-"
xiao tilted his head, "saw them what?"
"ah, i forgot."
xiao wilted a little.
---
as the house is fully decorated and hu tao busted her ass off to make it as romantic and christmasy as possible. the door rang, alerting everyone in the family to turn around. is it who xiao thinks it would be? name isn't late but they're not always super early. just before xiao reached for the door, hu tao squealed in delight, racing towards the door.
"hii name!!! and yanfei??? woah, did xiao invite you?" hu tao said, acting all coy as if she didn't try to puppeteer the whole situation. xiao noticed that yanfei's face was flustered. as he thought, huh, it is requited.
"ah, yes, i think so. i mean! yes, he did." yanfei yelped, clearly nervous but hu tao most likely saw her as perfect. xiao averted his eyes to you and god, he thinks you just killed him. from your sparking eyes to your bright smile, your little wave and he can't compute.
xiao.chr ran into an unexpected error 404
⋆。˚❆˚ 。⋆
you walked towards xiao, confused as to why he's just dazing off into nothingness. hu tao's conversation with yanfei blurring to the sound of christmas music. you poked his cheek, "xiaoo...?" seeing him go from reality from dreamland, which is strange, it's more like the opposite for the two of you. "are you there?"
"ah!" xiao yelped, blinking. huh, you never noticed how long his lashes were. "sorry, i was thinking about something."
"i could tell. what were you thinking about so hard?"
"gege has cooo-" xiao covered qiqi's mouth, "i was thinking of my grades after finals." as qiqi kept trying to talk, he made qiqi walk to hu tao and yanfei. "qiqi has a weird phase of saying cooties. sorry about that."
"no, it's kind of endearing." you replied, walking into the kitchen. xiao saw the little mistletoe above the kitchen's archway, afraid of kissing you in the moment, he redirected you to his room. "my dad's preparing something to snack on and he doesn't like being disturbed. um, lets go to my room instead."
"huh? but your dad loves when people watch him cook so he's not lonely in there." oblivious to the fact that the mistletoes were hung everywhere, xiao knew that hu tao had forgotten his own room. "he changed his rules."
you quirked a brow, "don't lie?"
"i promise i'm not lying." xiao said, trying to make himself sound not lying at all. until qiqi's voice replied, "gege, why are you a liar? i can see from jiejie's room that your pants are on fire. baba loves when people watch him cook."
"see, xiao, i can see what you're trying to pull here." you said. ypu're getting too close. very much to xiao's liking but to make a move? nah, he's good. seeing and loving you from a distance is good for him too.
"what are you talking about?" xiao said, pretending to be oblivious to what you're saying. you sighed and pulled him closer to you. he could feel the warmth from your face. he knows he's flustered by now. "you know what you're doing."
what?? i dont understand.
"what??"
"aw man, i thought this would bait you into telling me." xiao laughed mostly out of fear and anxiety. "you're just as mischievous as hu tao."
why did he compare you to his sister. it's over.
"ha! if i really was, you would've died by now."
he exhaled, "you're right."
⋆。˚❆˚ 。⋆
xiao was too caught up in the conversation he's having with you, he didn't know that he was right under a trap, the infamous mistletoe. you began to whisper, "look up."
when he did, his face paled as if he didn't agree with hu tao's plan to begin with. but unbeknownst to xiao, you set up this plan with hu tao. you always had even though you had every other chance to make a move on him, he always took it as platonic.
"oh." you pulled him closer,
"ready?" even though he was about to answer, you interrupted him with a kiss. wow you could've saved yourself 17 years of this but you liked to play the long game. xiao just stood there for a moment just before he returned the kiss.
the kiss moment was broken up by a loud flash sound and qiqi crying about how you two would catch cooties. "we need this for memories, can you kiss again for the family album?" hu tao asked as xiao pulled away from your embrace to yell at her. you laughed, winking at hu tao, pulling her brother away from her.
bonus:
zhongli started to console qiqi, cradling her into his arms, "cooties don't exist, qiqi."
"but, baba, uncle baizhu said, 'cooties are very contagious. to cure it i have to get the vaccine from his house.'" qiqi began to cry as zhongli wiped a tear from her face.
"baizhu likes to tease you since you are little-"
"baba! i am not little. i have two digits, i am older now."
"of course, you are a big girl now." zhongli comforting his daughter again, grabbing a gingerbread cookie from the counter. she takes it and cries,
"yes, baba! im a big girl and uncle wouldn't lie to me wouldn't he?" zhongli placed her on his lap, sitting on the couch. "well, no, of course he wouldn't. this is like how jiejie treats gege."
"ohhh."

In which Xiao gets the childhood he deserves. A Grandpa Zhongli and Xiao adventure.
Tumblr media
Out of all the seasons, Xiao loves summer the best. Not only does he get to stay up an hour later than usual, he gets to do things he normally couldn’t the rest of the year. For example, during summer, Xiao gets to sleep in as late as 10 in morning. He can go to the beach and eat ice cream and build sandcastles without worrying about homework. He can watch TV and play outside for as long as he likes, as long as he gets inside the house by twilight. Most importantly, he gets to stay in Grandpa's house for a whole month.
Xiao's Grandpa is Zhongli. Zhongli is the Geo Archon. That means Xiao's Grandpa is the coolest, most awesome being to ever walk the planet. And Xiao gets to spend thirty (30) days with him. Just him and his Grandpa.
No one else in all of Liyue gets to experience that.
Tumblr media
Xiao has spent a total of two days in his Grandpa’s house when he receives his first mission as a Guardian Yaksha.
The mission? Make a new friend. Location: The children’s park.
Xiao’s not gonna lie. He did not expect such a daunting task for his first ever mission. However, if there is one thing that Xiao has learned in his eight years of life, it’s that adepti assignments are to be accepted and seen to completion, whether they are given in Rex Lapis’ office or at the breakfast table over a plate of brown rice and grilled fish.
Which is how Xiao finds himself in the park two hours later, clutching his Grandpa’s slacks like his life depended on it.
Don’t misunderstand, though. Xiao is a brave boy. But sometimes, even brave boys get scared too. He’d much rather stay beside his Grandpa, where he can cling to his leg and be safe from the curious glances of the strange mortals in the sandbox.
“Don’t forget your weapon.”
Ah, yes, his weapon. Xiao wanted to bring one of his Grandpa’s many polearms, but Zhongli told him that the Primordial Jade Winged Spear is simply too long, too heavy, and too sharp for eight-year old boys to carry, even if they were adepti. So, he gave Xiao a jumbo bubble wand instead.
“Go on,” Zhongli tells him once Xiao finally let go of his leg. "Remember the plan."
Right, the plan. Xiao racks his brain for the battle strategy he made with Rex Lapis himself on their way here. Look for your target, wait for an opening, and when you’re ready, engage.
And so, Xiao does exactly that. Tightening his hold on the bubble wand, he takes a step forward and scans his surroundings. There, by the swings, stood two blonde kids around his age, blowing bubbles with their own soapy weapons. Target sighted.
Now for the rest of the plan.
Xiao turns to Zhongli. "Don't leave, okay?"
His Grandpa smiles and pats his head. "I'll be at the bench if you need me."
Xiao nods and walks ahead. Well, here goes nothing.

Ninety minutes later, Xiao goes home with two brand new friends, a play date plan for next week, and a gold coin for a job well done on his first ever mission as one of Liyue's Guardian Yaksha.

As Geo Archon and oldest of The Seven, it is only expected that Xiao’s Grandpa would keep a lot of treasures in his house. And, well, Xiao’s not claiming to be a treasure expert, but you know what they say.
Where there’s treasure, there’s a guardian.
That’s where Azhdy comes in.
Of all the odd things in the Geo Archon’s house, the most peculiar one is Zhongli’s pet, Azhdaha.
Xiao is not sure exactly what kind of animal Azhdaha is. His Grandpa says Azhdy is a dragon, but he looks more like a dog to Xiao. Either way, Xiao thinks Azhdy is the coolest, most awesome pet ever. (Even if his name is a little hard to spell).
Some people think Azhdy is scary, but really, he’s just a clumsy creature who’s a little too spiky and excitable. It’s true! Azhdy has funny eyes that look in opposite directions. He can’t see very well, and that’s why he always bumps into walls or people. But that’s okay, because it doesn't matter where Xiao is in the house—when Xiao says, "Azhdy, come here", the sound of heavy paws on hardwood floor will reverberate in the whole house, becoming louder and louder the closer he gets.
The sight of Azhdy running towards him never fails to make Xiao smile. Which is why he doesn’t understand why most people look just about ready to call the Millelith whenever Azhdy pounces on his little body to give him wet dog kisses.

There are days that hold a special place in Xiao's heart. For him, that day is Thursday. It's not because of any particular event or tradition. No, it's because Thursdays mean one thing: spending the most time with his super-duper amazing Grandpa.
For some reason, Thursdays seem to be the day when Zhongli spends the most time at home, away from his duties as the Geo Archon. And for Xiao, that means having his Grandpa all to himself for the day.
As the evening draws near on Thursdays, Xiao eagerly awaits the highlight of his day: bedtime. Not because it means the end of the day, but because it's the time when Zhongli sits by his bedside, tucking him in with gentle hands, a warm smile, and a pat on the head. Sometimes, Azhdy joins them too.
In those quiet moments, the world outside fades away, and it's just Xiao and Zhongli, and sometimes, Azhdy. While Zhongli spins tales of dragons, warriors, and dumplings, Xiao finds out very quickly that the crinkling of old book pages and Zhongli’s smooth baritone are much more effective sleep aides than the bedtime story itself.
Xiao never knows when he dozes off, if his Grandpa ever finishes his story before he starts dreaming. But every time, he wakes up with Zhongli and Azhdaha gone, replaced by the comforting scent of tea and breakfast in the air. It feels like a warm embrace, like he's loved and safe with Zhongli and Azhdy nearby.
Those Thursday nights (and Friday mornings) are the best.

The big building on Wangshu Street, Xiao learns, is called Wangshu Inn. Inn spelled with two (2) Ns. It means hotel, Grandpa Zhongli tells him one day.
Sometimes, when Xiao has been exceptionally good and Grandpa Zhongli feels particularly nice, they go to Wangshu Inn for a bowl of almond tofu. Xiao loves almond tofu, especially the almond tofu from Wangshu Inn.
How Xiao came to like the sweet treat is actually a funny story.
When Xiao was five, he got lost. It was Lantern Rite and he and his Grandpa were out and about on one of their holiday afternoon walks. Captivated by the vibrant sights and sounds around him, Xiao had wandered off and couldn't find his way back to where his Grandpa was.
Of course, being an adeptus, Xiao hadn't been scared. (He was terrified.) Like a brave and dependable Guardian Yaksha, he took it upon himself to look for the correct way home. (Xiao wandered aimlessly, tears welling up in his eyes.) And just as the day began to turn into night, a calming presence had enveloped him. It was Zhongli, his Grandpa!
He had found him amidst the crowd.
Xiao remembers his Grandpa picking him up from under his arms and rubbing his back to soothe him. Then, he brought them both to Wangshu Inn where they shared a bowl of almond tofu.
"You're okay now," his Grandpa had said. Xiao doesn't remember being not okay, so his Grandpa must have been talking to himself. He must've been super scared when he turned and found Xiao missing! He guesses even cool, strong, Geo Archons like his Grandpa get scared too sometimes. (So, maybe it's okay to say that he felt a little bit scared too when he couldn't see Zhongli anymore back in the harbour.)
Xiao doesn’t remember much of that day, but he does feel a surge of warmth and comfort with every spoonful of the soft sweet treat.

In the neighborhood where his Grandpa lives, there's a girl named Hu Tao. She's a bundle of energy, always running around with a mischievous twinkle in her eye. Hu Tao is Xiao's... not-friend friend, but whenever they meet, she's full of jokes and stories she's read from whatever book she was devouring that week.
She's smart, just like Grandpa Zhongli. She reads those big heavy books he sometimes sees his Grandpa read on quiet afternoons at the den. She says big, hard to say words, like quick sonic (quixotic) and disk consulate (disconsolate). Sometimes, she recites poems with rhymes and more words Xiao doesn't quite understand. It's okay, though, because when she does, she smiles, and when she smiles, Xiao smiles too.
Hu Tao has a pet bunny named Boo Tao. Boo Tao is a fluffy little creature, but too small to play with Azhdaha, so they settle for sitting together in the grass, sniffing flowers and watching the world go by.
Xiao thinks Hu Tao is pretty. He's not quite sure what "pretty" here means, but whenever she laughs, it feels like sunshine breaking through the clouds.

Sometimes, when the sky is gloomy, Grandpa Zhongli takes Xiao to the cemetery.
Xiao’s only seen pictures of Granny Guizhong but with all the stories that Grandpa has told Xiao about her, it’s as if he’s met her too.
He makes sure to water the Qinxin flowers Grandpa keeps on Granny's grave. He'll take care of the flowers so Granny does not get sad.
Next time, he'll add Glaze Lilies too.

Amidst the hustle and bustle, Xiao's hand finds Zhongli's, his small fingers entwining with his grandpa's sturdy grip. His Grandpa smiles down at him, his eyes crinkling at the corners. "Shall we see what the harbor has in store for us today, Xiao?"
Xiao nods. He'd be a dummy to say no to Rex Lapis. With a gentle lift, his Grandpa scoops Xiao up into his arms, granting him a bird's-eye view of the lively street below. From this vantage point, Xiao marvels at the vibrant tapestry unfolding before him—the dancers twirling in graceful arcs, the acrobats defying gravity with breathtaking stunts, and the musicians serenading passersby with their melodious tunes.
He thinks he can see Hu Tao and the twins there too.

As the end of summer draws near, the yard of Grandpa's house becomes a haven for crystalflies. Amidst the delicate dance of these enchanted creatures, Xiao clings tightly to Zhongli, his small form nestled in the safety of his Grandpa's embrace.
With each passing moment, the inevitability of parting weighs heavy on Xiao's heart. As his parents arrive to take him home, Xiao buries his face in the crook of Zhongli’s neck, unwilling to let go of the warmth and comfort he finds there. The air is filled with the soft whispers of crystalflies bidding farewell to the departing summer, echoing the bittersweet emotions swirling within Xiao's heart.

Summer has passed, and before Xiao knows it, it's summer again. Out of all the seasons, Xiao loves summer the best. Not only does he get to stay up an hour later than usual, he gets to do things he normally couldn’t the rest of the year. For example, during summer, Xiao can go out on walks with Azhdy while the citizens of Liyue look on with amazement at his very big, very cute pet. He can sit by the park and see if a girl with long pigtails and pretty eyes happens to pass by. Most importantly, he gets to stay in Grandpa's house for a whole month.
Xiao's Grandpa is Zhongli. Zhongli is the Geo Archon. And Xiao's most favorite thing in the whole entire world is him.
