So I wanted to take a jab at drawing Magical Tennis Girl Naomi BOWsaka (based on this outfit) and was initially just going to do a quick sketch but uh... I might've locked in and got a bit carried away 😅.
That said, this might honestly be one of my personal favorite art pieces I've made this year, and I'm all the happier it's a Bow Kid oriented piece since I haven't done a proper drawing of her in ages.
(also shoutouts to @hoshungen and their Tennis Bow Kid drawing since they beat me to the punch and it deserves praise as well 😁).

ok so i cant work on my wip rn because... in bed so im gonna wax poetic about it instead.
ive always been kinda confused with where alabasta is supposed to be set, in a way its kinda like disneys aladdin in that is just sorta mixes togeather a bunch of swana/se cultures/imagery to create a vauge idea of a 'desert country'. but considering Nefertari is an egyptian name (Nefertari Meritmut being the main example, an egyptian queen and first wife of Ramesses). im going to personally go with that idea.
with that out the way the main thing i wanna talk about... mehndi! (or henna). i personally think it would be so much cooler if the 'X' code was done in it. because the whole resolution to it is that while the X may fade, their friendship dosnt. Mehndi is an art that works of this principal, similar to rangoli. bridal henna for example is super intiquite and significant for the bride(/groom if ur progressive like that) on the mehndi celebration and shadi itself, and yet it fades away. But the specialness of the occcasion doesnt.
theres also the fact that it takes wayy longer to fade, so the drawn out process of that would be more impactful. ironicaly enough, for nami/sanji the most as they wash more often (namivivi angsttt). luffy and zoro being last.
because of all this im really obsessed with the idea of mehdi being a namivivi love languge. its such a wonderful artform to share with another person and in a romantic context tthe artistry and body worship aspects you could add are just. soo good.

Hey so im moving out of my flat tomorrow and due to my university* being Awful at Admin and me having to spend a lot of time and energy fixing shit, I have to pack down essentially my entire flat in one night. Anyone got any tips for how you pack quickly?
*technically former. I graduated and will only ever return for a) a brief stint as an advisor in a subject I aided in developing and b) the residency meet-up in like 9 months

Recent game related things .. hrmm...
#I do like the inconsistency of the first map. that is actually something older but that I re-found and added to my Game Reference stuff#so that when characters reference where they're from I can be accurate. I like that the whole map is kind of shifted up that way. Where the#actual south part doesnt even count as the south since its Too Far and Scary lol. and if you say you're from 'the north' thats basically#like.. one single continent. Though some people do make distinctions like 'north midlands' or etc. still. I like the ways that common#language isn't always precisely accurate like that. and thinking about why a culture would classify things a certain way or etc. etc.#The inventory page is so funny to me because it's literally just the BASe like.. sample layout just to make sure it works properly with 0#actual design into it. just colored rectangles thrown together in MS paint. but what if I like... left it like that.. what if all the other#art in the game and UI is like stylized and fully matching BUT the inventory/journal/etc. screens I just left as plain colored blocks#with random misalignments and black spots and etc gjhbhjj... It looks unfinished in a Funny Contrast way to me.#the wordcounts are just like... my past few days of writing.. I am still not getting 2200 words a day done or whatever I needed. I'm lucky#if it's even half of that .... tee hee.. :3c I do also keep having appointments and other things going on but..grrr...#The full map of the area is probably not necessary but I thought it would be more realisitc if people were able to reference things. Like i#you have people all living in a city area probably at some point someone might mention a neighboring city or some landmark nearby#or etc. so I thought having at least the basic names of what's around for reference would be sensible. A side character mentioning#'oh yeah I don't live here full time I just travel from Marisene sometimes' or whatever makes it seem more like a Real#Fleshed Out Place than people just making vague references like 'the river' or 'i come from a city nearby' or 'i went to a place somewhere#around here' or 'the other city' or etc. lol.. Especially since global cities/global areas are weird as they operate almost like an#independent country within their walls. so it's like a micro country inside of another country usually. just plopped down in some agreed#upon plot of land that won't be too disruptive to the main country around it. That could get very complex depending on the cultural and#political backdrop of where they're placed (though obviously they try to choose the 'easiest' areas possible for it). Asen is a very mild#country without much history of conflict or anything so it's fine. But still interesting that Sifeh and the entire branched out global area#border three other districts of Asen. Which means like 3 times the local representitives you'l have to negotiate with for some major change#or anything. I think one of the 'random characters you can find around the world and have short discussions with just to make the area#feel more populated and real even though theyre not actual important npcs' is going to be a guy who actually serves on the council that#handles running the global areas and he's like.. some perpetually exhausted middle aged elf running around with a clipboard or whatever#ANYWAY...... hrgh... still trying to write when I can....#I WISH so badly that I had the scope for a simple character creation menu and all character interactions would allot for the background#of your player character. And also to have a simple day night cycle where places in the world you explore/people you talk to during the day#have new options or dialogue at night.. BUT alas... I could do it!'' No that defeats the purpose lol#Gotta do the classic over-the-shoulder kicky feet pose! Did the same with Celestrians it's a good pose!#I'm just glad they're finally at a point where the details are Enough that it's fun but not So Much that it's hard to keep track of#I'm pleased :) Balanced ♪#The goop panel lol >:3c#I mentioned in the first one thinking along the lines of Charm and [Purple Text] but I didn't want to just make Geode again - distinct#But I love the ink/candle gloops! Same with Sky and Hiraeth's angel forms! And Hiraeth's god form! It's just fun shapes!#So I was thinking of making the goop a conditional form for High Emotions - positive or negative causes melting haha#It reflects their Center :) It's just an extension of the base of self#Also did some testing with different feathered tails - I like the peacock one but it might be a bit busy haha#The little tail is cute but I don't like it at all lol#And the bird legs were definitely too much! Haha but they were fun to test out ♪ That's what concept art is for :D

#ok so this probably really random and personal but whatever#so my hometown has a main street right? and my great grandfather was on the first town council & was active in the community#so the main street is named after him#& he's 'german'. kinda. both his parents were born in Lower Lusatia which is in East Germany & immigrated to Australia as teens#so he's Sorbian/Wendish but nobody knows what that is (including me until I was 16) so from all outwards appearances he was German#like his mother tongue was german & learnt at school his name is very German etc#anyway there's two parts of this#so when he was born my great great grandparents gave him an obviously German name & told whoever to write that down#on the birth certificate & this was the name he went by for a lot of his life#however when he was 35/40 he decided to buy land & he needed his birth certificate to complete the deal#but literally NO ONE with his name existed. however there was someone else with all the same details with an Obviously English Name#so someone change HIS NAME without telling anyone & we don't know who#and because it's the 1920s he decides to keep the name + he mainly went by a nickname anyway#also I imagining changing your birth certificate would be somewhat complicated in the 1920s?? idk tho#so remember the main street? yeah so it's his last name right?#the only part of his name not anglicized is his last name#there's a bakery on this street that supplies bread to the local supermarket#and a few months ago I happened to look at the bag more closely where they added their contact information#THEY SPELT THE STREET NAME WRONG#it could be a typo but it's on their socials too :/ & it's a small change#but distinctly anglicizing it (-mann -> -man)#it's probably not that much of a big deal but it pisses me off soooo bad#like don't touch that. don't do more :(#that's my grandmother's name#anyway 🤪🤪 descendant of immigrants thingz#bella talks

“Naked lady from memory” - an ink doodle from 4/26/2023 in a friend’s pocket journal
#i haven't drawn in over a month#let alone drawn a human body#in quite awhile...but i think the body came out better than the face hahaha (i started w the face)#i draw faces a lot and they are still so so difficult for me. god#2023#my drawing#visual art#ink#figure drawing#there are so many more details i look at and could've added but i did it ina few minutes so#yeah#i had dinner at my friend's house and her boyfriend (who is also my friend) (these are two of my best friends in the world for context)#handed me his notebook after doodling a page and said 'now you do one' and i was like hmmmm#so i started drawing a face and it looked weird so i added a neck and whatnot#my facial proportions are a little off but it's pen so there was only so much i could do#also she has no dimension under her belly. i didn't draw her tummy protruding at all. she's concave there i guess#idk#i miss drawing live models#i should try this kind of from-imagination exercise again sometime ive never done that#i dont have a very visual imagination so i never draw wo looking at something#yeah... yeah. this was kind of inspiring for me ngl#i like art but i dont make art like most ppl. (cuz im not good at it lol)

Why do you think Sky chose to live in a dorm?
Well, his dad lives in a whole other city, so to go to that college, he needed a place.
It isn't clear to me if it's a dorm or just apartments that typically rent to students. The subs say dorm, but that could be a vague translation of a specialized term (like student housing or whatnot).
But overall, Sky himself explains it- it is close to the university. Beyond that, it's a fairly safe building (until Pai butters the landlady up), and it gives Sky privacy at night.
He's afraid of anyone seeing or knowing his trauma, which includes night terrors that seem to come and go (probably exactly why he wouldn't stay in the hospital when he collapsed- because he was having nightly episodes at that point).
So a dorm situation was a must, but the solo room also helped.
I've interviewed assault survivors with C-PTSD and the most important thing you focus on is the set design. Clear line of sight to every door, simple layout, and close walls are all huge.
Sky's dorm has it all. The rooms are laid out so he can almost always see the front door, furniture is tight to the wall and short, nowhere for someone to hide. But the walls are also closer, cozy, comforting and non-complex.
Even though Sky isn't really dealing with his trauma and is standing with his back to it hoping it goes away, the dorm he chooses to live in is also very well set and laid out for a trauma survivor.
#when i say I am damn good at my job#I mean that when I got details of the shoot and found out who would be coming in i stayed up all night doing research#on how to approach the women- because I had to put mics on them which is all up in their personal space- and how to build the set#and i was working with a really loud and overly familiar cam op#so i went through stuff with him beforehand and he was extremely receptive to what id learned#and strategizing how to make the women feel both comfortable and safe because they were recounting their attacks for these videos#and we knew thatd be extremely hard for them#the psychologist in charge of the interviews for the client came in as we were talking and was really happy with what we had planned#and advised stuff like moving the walls in a way that created even more openings for them and not making the studio feel too cavernous#by adding extra set pieces we wouldnt see on cam but could help make them feel less exposed#and for a few; the male cam op set up and left the room with me monitoring the cam for the interview to offer privacy#ironically they chose the station that ignored assaults on female employees multiple times but the psychologist didnt know that bit#i also research religious and cultural customs whenever we film in a religious building or anything for our international communities
