the way these fans jumped a new viewer for being confused about all the armandaniel when nothing on the show supports that they even like on another just confirmed to me that is a cult. I know Anne encouraged her idiot fans to terrorize and harrass people who disagreed with her but she's dead now and its still seeped into the show fanbase and its so icky. I deactivated my main twitter account yesterday because I just dont want these people near me. You literally cannot discuss the show you're watching on the discuss shows website without a pack of losers in your mentions anymore and even when you block certain people take screenshots to start more discourse. A show like this deserves a better fanbase but a prexisting fans/cult + and a black protaganist means that was a pipe dream ❤️‍🩹💔

I'm sorry you've had an experience like this. I'm not active on twitter (i lurk there sometimes and usually within 10 minutes i get annoyed and have to close the app lol) but i've sometimes considered deleting tumblr or at least stopping being involved with the fandom. The combination of the toxic mentality of many book fans and racism (which is also prevalent in the book fandom) have made this fandom a pretty shitty place, especially for non-white fans, and particularly for black fans. This should be a perfect show to foster a fun, intelligent fanbase and discussion yet it often feels like the opposite of that. I can't really say other than that i hear you, and let's hope that the fandom growing, and most new fans/viewers being non book fans and many of them poc, will make the fandom a nicer place in the long term

Had a dream where there was Tumblr discourse from people insisting that Henrik was supposed to be asexual and therefore his relationship with Russ was "ace erasure".

The really annoying part is the only thing about that that makes it a dream was that it was on Tumblr. This exact discourse played out on the Digital Spy forums throughout Henruss. People who don't even know what asexuality is (if they knew, they wouldn't be saying "it's out of character for Henrik to want a relationship, he always seemed asexual" because ace people can still have relationships anyway lmao), saying Henrik was always portrayed as asexual and putting him in a relationship was a retcon.

Honestly there are few things more laughable than people saying Henrik was previously portrayed as ace. Just... imagine genuinely believing that Holby City would've introduced an asexual character in 2010. Lmfao. Holby didn't even learn trans people existed until 2020, they never learned the word "bisexual" existed, they kept alternating between implying Serena was a lesbian and implying she was bi because they didn't know the difference... and I'm supposed to believe they had asexual rep a decade ago? Lol no, Henrik was just written as being repressed and sex-repulsed due to trauma. That was always the intent of his character. Guy Henry said during series 13 that Henrik was sexually attracted to Sahira. S13E04 has guest character Keira Balfour, who basically says outright that she and Henrik are friends with benefits (or at the very least, have had a one-night stand, but their interactions seem to imply it happened more than once). If Henrik was intended as ace, how do you explain either of those things?

He was written as heterosexual from 2010 to 2016 and then he was written as bisexual starting from 2017. That's it. Don't drag asexual people into your discourse just because you can't stand the idea of a disabled man having sexual or romantic desires, especially for other men.

(I know some people are gonna be like "oh no they're just using ace people as a cover up for homophobia" but... while some of it is definitely that - and don't get me started on how shitty it is of them to weaponise one part of the LGBTQ+ community as a cover up for hating another part of it - it can't just be that because the exact same people do this with Dylan, who has only had straight relationships so far. Not in the form of specifically calling him asexual, granted - every time I've seen that, it's been from ace people projecting so they can relate to him, which is a different thing and totally valid - but the idea of "oh well Dylan's too logical to have romantic or sexual feelings, if the writers dare suggest he does it's OOC!!" still appears.)

(Also I feel the need to add that I'm making this post as someone who thinks both Henrik and Dylan are probably on the ace spectrum. But like... I also think Henrik is genderqueer, doesn't stop me from acknowledging that the writers literally never intended him to be.)

#stuffed bird art: specific tag for fanart of stuffed bird. this tag largely exists because you all are insane and i love you and i ran out of characters in stuffed bird’s endnote to link all of it there.

#magical girl scar: this au is taking over my blog and i am going insane but also it’s very fun so it probably won’t stop taking over my blog. click this tag to see stuff for it.

in addition, i will do my best to tag original content with any trigger i have been asked to tag it with. however, i am often bad about both spoiler and trigger tags, as i personally have very wide and flexible boundaries and therefore can be bad about judging other people’s. let me know if i need one on something there isn’t one on and i’ll do my best to fix it. in addition, i do not guarantee i will tag anything i reblog. i make attempts for major spoiler tags or things i think need a tag that op didn’t put on there, but even that is very very spotty, and i don’t want people to assume i will tag to a level of consistency i don’t and get hurt, so i generally refuse as a rule to guarantee that. sorry!

i don’t typically answer asks that are about discourse-laden topics. this includes stuff like shipping or dream or other things that are guaranteed to make at least one person mad. this is less because those topics make me upset (they don’t) and more because i hate getting in arguments on the internet, so if i actually do a discourse its normally because i’ve actually been really annoyed by something. otherwise i will politely pretend your question didn’t exist. (this does unfortunately include when you are not trying to discourse and are just sorta chatting about one of the topics i decide i don’t want to answer - i’m sorry! i promise i don’t care, i just am hyper-aware of the fact i have over five thousand follwers at this point.)

my queue is normally between two and three days behind the current day because i shove so much stuff in it. despite this, there is no consistency to how i decide if something goes in the queue or i straight-up reblog it. as a result there’s a pretty high amount of content just constantly on this blog. my current queue is at 36 posts a day but by god do i do more than that anyway. in addition my likes are from my main, as are my follows and replies, so it can be really hard to tell if i’m around sometimes, lol.

Just to add to the discourse on Jack working with Chris Brown, and how that makes him look because he says he's a man who respects black women...

Both Ella Mai and H.E.R. are both black women featured on the album as well. On the list of who should not be collaborating with him, black women are at the top, black men second, and then white people. If black women are collabing with Chris Brown, after EVERYTHING he's done to us, my expectation that a white man would miss the opportunity to jump on the album is wayyyyy low. If a white man observes black women engaging and supporting Chris Brown, it's a solid assumption to believe that he wouldn't find any issues in it. Many believe "he's paid his dues" and have moved on from his negative behavior. Now, this is not at all an excuse, but it's more of an explanation. We can't hate the white man for not being in our corner, when black men and women can't even be in our corner. The most woke of them will only mimic our actions, and if we don't demonstrate the respect that we expect, they won't know what to do but copy what we do and how we view ourselves. If we pointing fingers, the black women on the album should be put on the hot seat before we ever look at the white man.

Also, this is an industry, and for him to pass up an opportunity to work with the biggest names would be a disservice to his career. Like for him to take what is quite literally personal moral stances against people who are problematic, he wouldn't get anywhere. Does he give up his dream of being a big shot legend? Because the reality is you can't reach the GOAT status that he's looking for, without playing the "game" set before him. Can we isolate and blame him solely, sure you can, but it's unfair to try one without trying all. He's unproblematic beyond calling himself an alpha, but who he associates with is questionable. Could he do better? Yes. Will doing better get him the results he wants? Not necessarily, or at least not in the way and in the time frame he's looking for.

I don't support the idea of overlooking wrong because everyone else is doing it, but tbh this mentality is SLIM in this world. Many will do wrong because EVERYONE else is doing it. Just as I said, it's not an excuse it's just an explanation. Would we all like for every misogynistic, colorist, homophobic artist to be canceled completely? Yes. But would that leave us with a very small percentage of the current mainstream media socialites? Also yes lol. Now realistically, we would have to really sit with ourselves and think about who do we listen to? Who are on our playlists? Even if they themselves are unproblematic, have they associated themselves with problematic people? Then by the logic we're using with Jack, literally all of our "faves" gotta go.

As for Anitta... to be completely honest, beyond her just being annoying lol, I didn't know anything about her. It wasn't until I saw people saying she was a racist that I knew she was, well, racist. From what I could see on Tumblr, A LOT of blogs didn't know, and found out from the Grapevine on here too. So with that being said, what can we assume that Jack knows about her? What do his black friends know about her to warn him about her? When I Google it, I saw stuff about 2013 and 2017... they met like this year lol. Again, not an excuse, but an explanation. From what I can tell, Jack doesn't spend time on social media to be reading up on the Anitta racism threads that span back almost a decade ago. Realistically, I doubt that he and his friends are researching the folks they hang out beyond their discography. Should he have someone on his team doing that shit for him?? 10000% because honestly being friends with Anitta isn't really something necessary for his image, if anything, bringing it down. I definitely think he's needs a black woman on his PR team, because as literally the most ostracized demo, we SEE everything lmao, can't get shit passed us without alarms going tf off.

i do agree that interaction is a factor of encouragement for a lot of people and it can be discouraging when you pour your heart into a fic and don’t get the engagement you anticipated. however, i do think we should be realistic about how well content does in certain fandoms. for example, smaus and headcanons/reactions seem to do a lot better in enhablr than long fics. with tumblr in general, a lot of readers seem to prefer smut over fluff. btw i’m not saying people don’t like other genres like crime or mystery or something, but from what i see smut gets a lot more engagement

and there’s also other factors as to why engagement might be slow. maybe your readers are just too busy to read at the moment, maybe the certain trope/plot you’ve written isn’t their cup of tea — it honestly just comes down to personal preference

i used to write on wattpad and i’m ngl i feel like the interaction there was worse (and kind of negative) so tumblr is kind of a dream LMFAO and also ngl i never thought of my like to reblog ratio until i saw posts about it and stuff. i don’t rlly mind it tho bc the reblogs and comments and asks are very very sweet. tumblr does have an odd algorithm where only reblogs are how you spread posts across other blogs, and that’s why i use my likes as bookmarks instead :’)

i do see that across most platforms tho, like tweets will have more likes than retweets and wattpad books will have more votes than comments sometimes. so i do encourage people to reblog more for that exposure, but i also feel like the criteria changes each time i see a post LOL like i’ve seen posts going from “don’t just like, reblog the post” to “don’t reblog with just tags” to “don’t just reblog with one comment and keysmashes.” i will say when you place these expectations on your readers, it becomes hard to enjoy what you’re writing and to appreciate the praise you do receive

i used to be a silent reader around 2019-2020 and now i do enjoy leaving extensive commentary on fics if you see my fic recs blog, but i also can only really do it with long fics :o if it’s a smau/drabble/timestamp/reaction, then i sort of just read it and don’t have much to say yk? i feel like that’s the same for a lot of people as well, especially on enhablr when that seems to be a lot of the content

i’m not sure if “entitled” is the right word for reblogging and commenting. i do encourage readers to reblog and comment on content they like !! since we’re all putting out free content tho, we gotta keep in mind that readers are not expected to read all of our works in the same way that we’re not obligated to write for others. i also respect that some people like to curate their own blog’s content. like yeah blog aesthetic whatever — i make multiple side blogs for that reason. we can’t be entitled to reblogs but not allow our readers to be entitled to having their blogs be the way they want yk ??

I don't know what direction to point you in, because dsmp these days is. probably what i'd call the hardest media to get into today. its content is scattered around all over, and although i could point you in a direction to start with, going further than that... is hard.

but, i can try anyway, and the "guide" i'd recommend following is relaxxattack's carrd.

lucky for you, the majority of the first "season" is edited by the creators themselves, but in season 2 and after that, you'll find that you need to start watching vods, and man, that can take ages. it all depends on you of course, and you definitely don't need to watch every single vod (unless you're planning on getting into lore discourse which. do not recommend. i'm serious. it's not worth the time and energy. i've been in it myself and it just sucks the energy out of you.)

there's also several different CC's to choose from, but the easiest to get into imo are Tommy, Wilbur and Techno. not even Dream is that easy to get into since he's only ever streamed, and not even that often. you need to watch others' streams to find appearances of him. Techno, even, you'll have to watch his vods to understand anything. he's only edited like. three or four videos. BUT. at least he has all of his vods archived LOL

it might seem overwhelming, but if you've got a lot of time on your hands, well. here you go lol - there's plenty for you to watch :P if you want proper context to the things that are going on right now and all that, please watch the first two seasons. they're essential to understanding a lot of the nuance that's going on, and plus, they're probably what i'd call the best content that's come out of dsmp as a whole. it's where they had the most fun and the most passion for the server.

so! have fun anon! don't let people on tumblr discourage you from liking certain characters or anything like that. please just consume the content at your own pace, and in general... idk. i personally enjoyed dsmp a lot more when i was unaffected by fandom perception and opinions, when all i did was look at fanart. although, that's just my experience of course - i can't know how you feel. just be careful out there. it's a big fandom, and big fandoms can become... chaotic.
