Last time I checked the tags, it was a whole lotta shipping shit, and when I checked again today, wouldn't you know it- it still is. And it's a shame so many artists stick with the official style of dragons because imo they're not that great looking and it feels like a whole batch of dragon artists are gonna carry this style far into the future. So, I keep seeing people saying that Jason is Bruce’s favorite child, and the only one that was actually like a son to Bruce. (aside from Damian) Also that just because Dick and Bruce were partners/brothers too, it means that Dick isn’t really like Bruce’s son. How Jason and Bruce are each other’s favorite and Dick wishes he could be Bruce’s son (basically it just gets worse and worse jekskenjske)

AND I DON’T REALLY GET THIS AT ALL.. I COMPLETELY DISAGREED

But then I saw SO MANY posts about this (just getting harsher and harsher LMAO) and I thought I’d ask someone who knew more. So, yeah, here I am!

JK JK my first fanon jason ask... what a historic day! basically you're completely right. I don't know where this frankly insane take comes from but whenever me, my mutuals, and pretty much anyone in this corner of the dc fandom sees a post like it we roll our eyes to the heavens. to put it simply the idea that jason is bruce's favorite and the only one he actually loved like a son is a complete fucking lie lol.

first of all to claim that bruce didn't love dick like a son is......I mean. let's just say people saying that have probably never read a comic with bruce and dick before. literally the number one thing to know about these characters is that the love bruce and dick have for each other can be seen from outer space. they have never been normal about each other. bruce raised dick since he was eight. they are thee og codependent father-son partners 'we saved each other we are pack bonded for life if anything happened to him i'd kill everyone in this room and then myself' duo. I mean... there is nuance to be had where they had a very complicated tangled up hard-to-label relationship that had elements of being father & son, elements of being brothers, and ofc partners as batman and robin but that is a function of their relationship being TOO crazy and close not the other way around lol. it is patently true that bruce and dick know each other better than anyone else in the world. it is pretty much true that if you're going to play the favorites game, it's hard to deny that dick is bruce's favorite. that's his eldest his most trusted his saving grace his person who understands him better than anyone. I could pull like an endless amount of panels as evidence that dick was bruce's favorite. there are so many 'dick is the only thing i did right' 'i only feel pride when i look at nightwing' etc etc. dick is his child in every way that matters basically

which is not to say that jason isn't bruce's son! he definitely is! bruce does love jason, but jason was his second kid lol. and it's...i mean jason was robin for a very short time in the grand scheme of things. you can blow through his robin run super fast because it's just not very long. the idea that bruce loved jason more or there's more of a father-son bond to be found in the few issues they were together for as opposed to the 10 years dick was robin is actually insane. bruce literally admitted that the reason he let jason be robin was because he missed dick. lol. lmao even.

basically yeah claiming that jason is bruce's favorite and dick was never treated as bruce's son is just a lie. it's not true. it's like that 'jason is tim's favorite robin' nonsense that was going around a few months ago; it completely ignores canon and essential character elements in jason's favor. I don't know why some jason fans are so obsessed with putting him up on a pedestal by bashing other characters on his behalf. and like...it is possible to have two sons? and love them both? lmfao? and that's not even getting into like tim and cass (also bruce's adopted children). I don't know why people just decided this was a thing but it is false<3

hmm. i can't say i'm fond of the officially translated dialogue for this scene

Horace's lines... they do feel more in line with how he talks in Turnabout Target, but i feel it was kind of the point that he acted differently and more softly when speaking with Simon. this was shown in the fan-translation, and though my Japanese skills are very very low, it also seems to be the case for the original version from what i can tell.

in the original Japanese, he states "Arigato na, Souta." - when speaking with close friends, people may use 'arigato na' instead of just 'arigato' - and this was translated as 'I owe you one, Simon.' in the fan-translation, and here, it's 'No idea what that might be, but thanks.' which isn't like, odd for Horace to say, but i do think the fan-translation did it better.

and Simon's final line (not shown here cuz i forgot to screenshot it lol) being "... Goodbye, Bronco. And farewell." instead of just the simple "... Goodbye, Horace." from the fan-translation (can't remember if it was that simple in the original Japanese, admittedly) feels kind of... i don't know, a little unnecessarily melodramatic?

Whenever I have really bad writer's block, I use a word randomizer to choose three prompt words to work with. Lately, I've been working on a bunch of these oneshots, and I just finished the first one!

It's Wilsons angst! What else is new :) Lincoln and Casey talk about (or, rather, do everything to avoid talking about) familial tension and grief. This probably appeals to nobody but me but ENJOY! :D

PS: I am working on some other oneshots in this "series" of random prompts (they're not interconnected in any way), but I'm also working on my ongoing series! I pinky promise. I just want to make sure they are good, and I haven't been totally loving my writing lately, so I'm doing some shorter exercises like this to help me get back into the swing of things. It's going well so far! ^_^

for the memory sequence with guyun, i find it funny that they used jarilo-vi as the set dressing. you know, on account of sampo having the name connection to kalevala? it's another thread i'm drawing between them. could be nothing though.

i also find the pattern on this npc lady's skirt to be interesting.... perhaps i just have koski on the brain already but it sort of reminds me of the knot pattern on sampo's sleeve? maybe this is a stretch! does anybody else see it?

i love this sword so much. kind of transgender tbh! i love that argenti showed up, also! i like that we keep bumping into him and fighting him, haha. i enjoy his fights a lot.

An idle thought, really, but I think it's interesting to see fandom latch on the metaphorical interpretation of things like Laudna's relationship with Delilah as a metaphor for addiction or Imogen's psychic powers as a metaphor for either chronic pain or queerness, but there's much less attachment to or discussion of the characters who explicitly, canonically dealt with exactly those things. By which I mean Scanlan's substance abuse, Veth's alcoholism, and even Ashton's chronic pain (which feels like it was discussed much more before it was confirmed canon, and seems to be brought up mostly just as ship fodder these days). I suppose one could argue the devotion to the metaphorical interpretations lies in the fact that it's an interpretation of canon as opposed to being explicitly so, meaning there's more wiggle room to project a personal interpretation onto it. Explicit canon is more concrete, less malleable to the individual viewer. Still, if we're going to talk about addiction now in a metaphorical sense via Laudna, it leads me to wonder if we will see further discussion of the characters who explicitly dealt with addiction (Veth and Scanlan), as opposed to Laudna's purported allegorical version of it
