"Scar, look at me," Grian says the night before the Battle of the Red Desert as they lay in bed together. He lies on top of Scar, his hands grazing the sides of Scar's face before he leans down and steals a kiss.

Their first kiss.

It's only a small peck, a simple graze of lips, but Scar takes it as the confession it is.

It's only one of many that night, as Scar places his hand on the back of Grian's head and pulls him down for more.

"Scar, look at me," Grian says, after having climbed up the mountain to Scar's base and returned what's left of his things.

Scar stays sitting where he's sulking in his wizard hut, the smell of burnt clothes and flesh still lingering in the air, despite Scar's body having (mostly) healed from his death. He doesn't look up as Grian arrives or as he quietly places his items in a chest.

It's only when Grian bends down slightly to press a small kiss against his forehead that Scar finally looks up. Grian smiles sadly at him before leaving without another word.

"Scar, look at me," Grian places his hand on Scar's cheek, forcing his head to turn towards him. There's an uncharacteristic seriousness in Grian's eyes that makes Scar stay put this time (even with the adorable Jellie-panda next to him nudging him, begging for attention).

The dripstone above him falls, hitting his shoulder, and he watches as Grian winces in pain at the exact same moment.

"Oh. Oh my god."

They were soulmates. He and Grian were soulmates.

"This whole time?" Scar asks in disbelief, even as he's smiling and envelops Grian into a tight hug, picking up the much smaller man in the process. Grian can only laugh and hugs him in return.

Eventually Grian's giggles dies down and he pulls back slightly to repeat back to Scar, "This whole time," before he leans down and kisses him.
