dance - jeno x f reader
fluff, smut, 2.1k
Tumblr media
jeno knows it’s bad, but he can’t help but reminisce on how this all began. he likes to torture himself by reliving the first night over and over. it always starts with the drunken taunts from his teammates, sullied further by his dismissal. ‘no way,’ he’d said. ‘i can’t go there.’ he remembers seeing your roommates hyping you up, followed closely by your misguided steps. even after his earlier reluctance, he still regrets not beating you to the jump, his friends’ clearing their throats, trying to act natural as you approached their booth.
he hated the setting: a grotty sports bar a town over from his college campus. it sold stale, cheap beer, triple vodka sours and served well past three am. this may not sound like the typical start to a love story, but it was a start all the same.
‘do you wanna dance?’ you asked in a painfully small voice, your emboldened strut paling in complete contrast to your timid yet gleaming gaze. jeno still can’t say where he found the courage to agree, but agree he did, nodding behind his beer before following you up to the sticky floor. somewhere along the way you had taken his hand in yours, in fear of losing him in the sea of sweaty bodies. in the musty wave of noughties hits with tacky modern spins, jeno managed to lose himself anyway. he hadn’t a clue where to put his hands, his eyes searching yours as you giggled up at him, cooing at his bewilderment.
so you led. placing his hand on your exposed waist, your top riding up as it hugged the skin beneath your rib. he felt you shiver under his touch, his fingers clenching minutely at the feeling. ‘is this okay?’ he’d yelled, though it came through as more of a whisper under the music. you didn’t respond, instead reaching for his other hand, squeezing it over the denim on your hip. jeno was spinning. not from dancing, and not from the amount he’d drank. he knew it wasn’t down to that, nor the dizzying motion of the lights, the thickness of the air or the pounding of the music. jeno knew it was you. your chest pressed flush to his, your eyes boring into his. he didn’t know when you’d started swaying, his body leaning, moving in time with the music and the others on the floor. he could hear the songs changing, feel the bass beneath his feet. there wasn’t much he could do but enjoy it.
much like he still does. as he drags you close to him, the rosie organza pleated around your chest pressed right up to his satin lapel. his confidence then pales in comparison to now. it only took a few months to see the change, one you nurtured in all the ways a man like jeno needed. in soft assurances and gentle praise. in delicate touches and the softest embraces. in ardent exchanges and steamy quickies.
but the trouble began this past winter. well, technically well before. as a child, jeno had spent his summers visiting his cousin jaemin in his hometown from before he could remember. there the two had fortified a friendship, a real brotherhood that jeno never would have gotten to experience without being cast away to the country every solstice. it was there he met his cousin’s neighbour, mark lee. mark lee, a kind kid with wide eyes and a wider smile, was the kind of kid everyone looked up to. he embodied what jeno typically thought to be an older brother. and he was. to his step sister and cousins, to kids in his neighbourhood, to jeno’s cousin jaemin and eventually to jeno. it’s why, this christmas just gone, when mark had approached jeno, with giddy eyes and a giddier smile, to ask him to be one of his groomsmen - not just due to the refusal of a painfully introverted jaemin - but because of a genuine brotherhood formed between the two, jeno’s big hearted self could not refuse.. bringing us back to where the trouble began.
‘so, are you bringing her to the wedding?’ mark questioned suddenly, his arm pushing through the sleeve of his tux. ‘you definitely shou- it’s a bit tight at the elbow, can you see?’
jeno still curses jaemin for opting out of being a groomsman, leaving jeno to deal with the trivialities of wedding prep. not that he has a real problem with it all. it’s just a fitting, he thought as he walked in, his eyes landing on the black silk hanging off the changing room door. it wasn’t until he realised it was just he and mark - the rest of the groomsmen opting to come on a later date - that he was regretting the decision. because even though no one would admit it to his face, mark was a bit of a groomzilla. less for the usual reasons. he wasn’t rude, short or angered by little inconveniences. he was just a man of superstition, faith, and insurmountable dubiety. he wanted everything to be perfect. he wanted to do as much of his part as he could for his wedding day. jeno thinks his fiancée had been right to leave him the task of the guest list. mark easily knew more people, so was naturally inundated with acquaintances. it was a great idea, jeno thought.. until mark kept- on- pushing- ‘i’ll even relieve you of your duties early, let you go off with her-’
‘thanks man,’ the younger tried, watching the tailor pinch the jacket at his waist. ‘but really, i don’t think i will. i’ll just bring my mom or something.’
‘your mom’s already invited man, you know that.’ jeno huffed at that. of course she is. mark did take his duties seriously after all. ‘couldn’t have her going off on me like jaemin did-’
‘are you comparing my mom to jaemin?’
‘i’m just saying-’ mark paused to thank the attendant, slipping back out of his jacket as he walked up to jeno, squeezing his shoulder. ‘you’ve got nothing to be nervous about, jen. you’re like a brother to me. you should bring her, i’d love to meet her.’
jeno flinches just thinking about it, his spine straightening as mark turned to him fully. jeno manages a shrug, turning back to the mirror just for a second before deciding that, no. no, it wouldn’t be a good idea to introduce his girl to his best friend on his wedding day.
because the issue wasn’t that he wouldn’t invite you.
‘you met her at college, right?’
the issue was that he couldn’t.
‘maybe y/n knows her?’
the issue is that you’re already going.
‘you know what my sister’s like, she gets on with everyone.’
“jen?” you pant, his name falling off your tongue as he bounces you quickly in his lap. “come back to me.” he smiles at your sweet call, your teeth catching his lip between them before slipping your tongue into his mouth.
the ceremony starts in ten minutes, though guests are still pouring into the church. it’s what actually convinced him. that and you, your manicured hand stuffing your damp panties into the pocket of his fitted tux. it had been his undoing, your sweeping frame gliding into a small side door a few feet from the altar.
the clock is ticking but you pay it no mind, your hips halting their rise and fall as you dig your heels into the masoned floor, grinding your hips back and forth as you ride him. you feel his nails dig painfully into your skin, his tongue wrapping around yours, swallowing your gasps as his other hand gathers your dress, the layers of delicate organza billowing over his knee. when your nails find his nape, careful not to mess up his perfectly styled do, you suck on his ear lobe, forcing him to thrust up into you.
“fuck-”
“shh!” you hiss, rushing to stuff the same panties you gifted him in his mouth. you hear his muffled groans, his cheeks hollowing as he sucks the essence of you onto his waiting tongue. he feels you clench harder around him, his eyes smiling in place of his occupied lips. he lifts a brow when your rocking falters, your eyes darting around his perfect face, incapable of taking in anything but him and how he makes you feel. there’s a question in his gaze, forcing your head to bob. “yeah- i’m close-”
he abandons your dress then, letting the material pool around you two as he presses his palm to your neck, bringing your mouth to his. it’s a quick and steep descent to your release, your thighs burning as he slams you up and down on his cock, your skin clapping against his as he abandons all reason. he’s kept it quiet for so long, at times he thinks it might consume him from the inside out, all this love he has for you. all jeno really wants is to scream it out from the highest mountain top, tattoo it to his forehead, paint it on the fucking moon. hell, he would pay anyone to listen. he didn’t care who. he’d tell anyone who’d listen that he, lee jeno, was in love with y/n y/l/n.
“i love you too,” you almost cry, jaw unhinged as you feel the effects of his thrusts and affection rip through you. it spreads through you like wildfire, setting every nerve in you alight before it finally consumes him. your heat pumps and pushes him past his release, his heavy load pouring out into you. you milk him through it, your temple pressed to the crown of his head.
it’s the church bells that rip you apart, your whole body cringing as realisation hits. you cringe further as his flushed face fills your vision, his hands gathering your dress again before further staining your panties as he wipes between your legs. “don’t look at me like that.”
“like what?”
“like it’s worse for you than it is for me.” you’re about to ask how when he moves away from you, closing his eyes as he wraps it up before shoving it back in his pocket. “i said don’t.”
“fine, i won’t-” your surrender is cut short when knuckles strike the door three times, jaemin’s sign to wrap it up. “shit, let’s go-” you try to leave but can’t. because suddenly he’s stopping you, his warm hand loosely wrapped around your wrist.
“let’s tell him.”
“tell who what-”
“mark.” jeno used to hate acknowledging the striking similarities between you and your step brother. much like the unwon battle of the chicken and the egg: which came first? which of you taught the other that when your eyes enlarge, rounding into porcelain saucers, two full moons nearly eclipsing him, that he’d give you anything?
“today?” when he nods, you want to laugh. but he looks so confident. so sure. “jen, are you sure?”
“i am,” his affirmation makes your heart swell, even before he continues. “i’m sure about you.”
he knows where your uncertainties lie. but you affirm it too. “i’m sure about you too.” you both seem to forget the wedding in that moment, both neglecting the importance of your bridal party roles in favour of basking in one another for even a second longer. “only if you save me a dance?”
“always.” so much so, you don’t register the sound of the confessional door swinging open when jeno leans in to kiss to your forehead, his bitten lips pressing to the skin as his eyes land on a pair not too dissimilar to the ones he’d just poured his heart out to.
mark seems to short circuit for a second that seems to last hours. “mom’s looking for you,” he announces, spluttering around the words as you immediately grab jeno by the hand and drag him out the confessional. you both duck your heads as you shuffle past jaemin, who looks beyond pissed you didn’t heed his earlier warning.
when you both disappear, your brother turns on jaemin, eyes wide as full moons. “you knew!” it only angers him more when jaemin nods, unflinching when mark starts slapping his arm. “he told you and you didn’t tell me?”
“nuh-uh,” the younger defends, straightening out the groom’s lapel as he reverently shuts the confessional door. “i figured it out.” mark looks bewildered at the notion it had been so obvious. jaemin has to remind himself it’s mark’s day and not to be too harsh. “come on, hyung. he wouldn’t tell us her name, wouldn’t let us meet her.” mark still looks stunned. “don’t get me started on how many times they pulled this shit last christmas-”
and to think. it all started with a dance.

Lover
Day 8, Story #2 is by @adenei
Title: Lover (or, five times Lavender felt Ron slipping away, and the one time she didn't)
Author: adenei
Pairing: Ron Weasley x Lavender Brown, but also heavy insinuations on Ron x Hermione
Prompt: 5+1
Rating: T (for fabricated insinuations)
TW: Teen heartbreak and all the drama that comes with it.
Author's note: While I am primarily a Romione writer, I could not get this idea out of my head. So, here's a little Lav redemption. After all, she was only a girl who fell for a boy and pursued a perfectly unattached boy.
******
9 November 1996
I think he knows his hands around a cold glass
Make me wanna know that body like it’s mine.
-I Think He Knows
The Gryffindor common room was aglow in crimson and gold, filled to capacity for the celebration of today’s victory against Slytherin. Seamus and Dean managed to smuggle in a boatload of Butterbeer for everyone, which masked the two bottles of Firewhisky Seamus was passing around their inner circle. Parvati and Lavender were lounging in the same armchair on the far side of the room.
Lavender’s never been one to pay close attention to a Quidditch match. Sure, she was all about the parties and house spirit following a match, and if Hogwarts had a cheer squad, she’d be the first person to sign up. But sitting in the stands, watching a match for an indeterminable amount of time? She could think of at least five other things to do that didn’t involve the wind claiming victim to her hair as players whizzed by on broomsticks.
Now that they were inside and out of the crisp November air, she could enjoy the party with her friends. Though, it’d be much more enjoyable if a certain redhead would stop flashing a grin in her direction and just come over to talk to her instead.
  “You're staring again,” Parvati chided.
Lavender sighed in response. She couldn’t help it. He’d filled out over the summer, and Quidditch training had been kind to his physique. Red hair wasn’t a feature she ever gravitated to in the past, but freckles and those bright blue eyes were her downfall. Not to mention his infectious smile and the way he was always able to make everyone around him laugh. Ron Weasley was a good guy, and Lavender wanted to get to know him better.
“He’s single, right?” Her fingers twirled her curly blonde hair between her fingers as she watched him take a swig of Butterbeer from the cold glass in his hands.
“As single as the last time you asked me,” Parvati responded with an air of nonchalance in her tone.
Lavender wasn’t surprised by her bored tone. There was only so much they could talk about when it came to Ron, considering neither knew that much about him. She contemplated Parvati’s response, weighing the options of trying to pursue something. A voice in the back of Lavender’s mind was screaming at her to ask what her other roommate’s thoughts were on the matter concerning Lavender asking Ron out, but Hermione was nowhere to be found.
Besides, did it really matter what she thought? Hermione has had all the time in the world to make a move on Ron if she really wanted to. She had no claim on the redheaded Gryffindor. As far as Lavender knew, he was fair game, and at the rate Ron kept glancing in her direction, she was sure it meant something.
So, Lavender swiped the bottle of Firewhisky from the space between Parvati’s legs and the arm of the chair, where she’d been keeping it hidden, and took a large swig. She’d need the liquid courage for what she’d just decided to do.
“What are you—” Parvati started to ask before Lavender cut her off.
  “I’m going for it.”
Without another thought, Lavender hopped off the chair and marched over to Ron, who had just set his empty glass down on the table behind him. She still hadn’t made up her mind about whether she was going to say anything or not and let the wide lopsided grin that erupted on his face decide for her when he saw her approaching.
“Hey, Lavender! What’d you think of the—”
Lavender didn’t wait to hear the rest of Ron’s question as she threw her arms around his neck and planted a kiss on his lips. His eager response paired with his hands finding a home on her hips egged her on as she refused to break the kiss right away. It was sloppy, and he was inexperienced, but he didn’t pull away at her advances.
I can teach him a thing or two and whip him into boyfriend material in no time.
When they finally did pull apart, it was to a chorus of catcalls around the room. A coy smile passed over her lips as she asked, “should we find someplace a little more private?”

Kiss me once, cause I know you had a long night
Kiss me twice ‘cause it’s gonna be alright
Three times ‘cause you waited your whole life
~Paper Rings
“So, what do you want to do tonight?”
Lavender bounced up and down on the sofa next to Ron. It was the last night before the Christmas hols, and she wanted to make the most of it since she wouldn’t get to kiss him for two weeks. But something was off. Ron seemed distracted, and he kept looking past her, which was beginning to grate on Lavender’s nerves.
“Er, I don’t know. I’ve got a lot of packing to do still, so I’m not sure if we should really—”
Lavender was taken aback as Ron threw himself at her, lips clashing together even though he was just in the middle of telling her he was too busy to do anything. Lavender cracked an eyelid open to see Hermione shoot them a disgusted look as she crossed the room and waited by the portrait hole. She clamped her eyes shut a moment later when she sensed Ron’s twitch.
She wasn’t going to complain about snogging her boyfriend in the middle of the common room, but she kept her ears open.
“Ah, Granger, looking delicious as ever.”
Hermione was going to the party with Cormac? She must really be desperate to want to go with that sleazeball.
“Let’s get going,” Hermione responded in her usual clipped tone. “I’d rather not be in the vicinity of that much longer.”
Lavender tried not to be offended by Hermione’s icy words. Ron didn’t deserve to be treated like rubbish, and neither did she. It’s not like Hermione had laid any claim on Ron. She tried to refocus her attention on the snog, but Ron pulled away as soon as the portrait hole closed.
  Huh, well, that was odd.
“Well, I should go and get packed, then. I’ll see you in the morning?”
What just happened? Is he really going upstairs after snogging me like that?
Lavender was thoroughly confused by Ron’s actions. Nothing seemed to match up tonight, and she didn’t want to leave things like this at the train station tomorrow. She needed to know what was going through his mind.
  “Won-Won, what’s wrong?”
  “Nothing.”
“Doesn’t seem like ‘nothing'. Why’d you start snogging me when Hermione came down the stairs?”
“What? I can’t snog my girlfriend? It had nothing to do with Hermione.”
Ron sounded convincing, but Lavender was still hesitant to believe it.
  “Are you sure?
  “Yes.”
Lavender noticed how Ron’s ears turned a bright shade of pink and wondered if he was hiding something. Even if he was, he was her boyfriend, and she decided to trust him. Switching gears, Lavender asked him the other question that was weighing on her mind.
“Not that I care who Hermione’s going to the Slug Club party with, but why McLaggen? Everyone in Gryffindor knows to stay away from him.”
“Dunno. Why do you say that?”
“You don’t know? McLaggen doesn’t like to be told ‘no’.”
“He—what?” Ron groaned and rubbed the back of his neck while his nostrils flared in annoyance. Or was it anger?
  “I’m sure she’ll be fine.”
“Yeah, well, she shouldn’t be going with him in the first place.”
“Why?” Lavender peered intently at Ron, waiting for an answer.
His cheeks were flushed as he shook his head, eyes darting to the boy’s staircase as if he was looking for an escape.
  “Er, no reason…”
  “Won-Won,” warned Lavender.
“I—er, I think I was supposed to go with Hermione tonight.”
  “Excuse me?”
Lavender sensed his immediate attempt to backpedal the conversation before he even spoke. He was already standing and moving around to the backside of the sofa. Even as he attempted an explanation, Lav gathered the impression that he was trying to convince himself more so than her.
“Well, she never officially asked me! Besides, we got into a huge row, and now I’m with you, so it doesn’t matter. Look, Lav, I’m tired, and I’ve got a lot to do. I’ll see you in the morning.”
Without another word, Ron disappeared up the boy’s staircase, which left Lavender on the sofa, reeling at his words. How had she not known that Hermione had asked him—or tried to ask him—to the party?  He wasn’t trying to get back at Hermione by using Lavender, was he?
No, that’s ridiculous! He fancies you! You wouldn’t have spent a whole month together if he was trying to get back at your roommate.
Lavender pushed her discomfort over Ron’s actions to the back of her mind. She’d know if he wasn’t interested. He probably just misses his friend. It was really a shame Hermione couldn’t be happy for Ron, or Lavender for that matter. But Lav wasn’t going to do anything about it, not while she had Ron all to herself. Maybe she was being selfish, but Ron was her boyfriend, and she intended to keep it that way.
5 January 1997
Said I’m fine, but it wasn’t true
I don’t wanna keep secrets just to keep you
~Cruel Summer
Lavender was chomping at the bit to spend time with Ron upon their return to Hogwarts the Sunday after New Years, but obligations kept getting in the way. Apparently, Ron was busy with rounds and Prefect meetings during the entire train ride back to the castle, and then Harry had scheduled a team meeting after dinner. She’d given up the hope of seeing him that evening and settled on waiting for him to go down to breakfast the next morning.
Lavender hoped Ron wasn’t embarrassed because he never bought her a Christmas gift. They were only together for a month, and there wasn’t a Hogsmeade weekend where he could have gone to buy her anything anyways. And since Harry was staying with the Weasleys, she assumed there were more safety wards in place, so the chances he could get to Diagon Alley to shop for her were slim too.
It’s not like she intended on getting him a gift, either, but when she saw the opportunity to get two lockets at buy one get one free, she couldn’t resist. She’d purchased one for Parvati’s gift, and her mother had always taught her to never pass up a deal, so she’d had the locket engraved with ‘Won-Won’ and sent it to him for Christmas.
When Ron came barreling down the stairs the next morning, Lavender was so excited that she pounced on him, which caused him to flail backwards and almost topple over.
“Won-Won!” She left a sloppier than intended kiss on his cheek as he turned his face.
“Hey, Lav. Er, sorry about yesterday.”
“It’s fine, are you ready for breakfast?”
He nodded as they exited the portrait hole. They were halfway to the Great Hall when Lavender attempted to engage him in conversation again. She knew he wasn’t a morning person, but she wasn’t willing to wait another few hours.
  “So, how were your holidays?”
“Huh? Oh, they were good. Yours?”
“Wonderful! I love going home for Christmas. My younger brother was so excited to see me. I picked out a toy broom for his gift this year, and he spent the whole two weeks riding on it! I was so sad to say goodbye to him again, but Easter will be here before we know it. Maybe you can come home and meet my family for Easter hols.”
  “Huh? Oh, yeah, sure.”
Lavender could sense from Ron’s lackluster response that he wasn’t paying attention. So, she followed his gaze, and of course, there was Hermione, most likely darting off to the library or wherever she went to avoid her former best friend. Her blood boiled at the way she was treating Ron. At least that’s what she was telling herself. She certainly wasn’t jealous of the way Ron was watching her.
Lavender reached up and gently turned his face back to focus on her. “Did you like your gift?”
  “Y-yeah, it’s great.”
“Are you wearing it?” Her hand slid down to feel his chest. Maybe it was concealed under his uniform.
“Er, no. I—uh—I’ve got it tucked away under my pillow for safekeeping.”
“Why? You aren’t embarrassed of us, are you?”
“N-no! I just like to—uh—keep it close when I’m sleeping so I can dream of you!”
Lavender suppressed a laugh at his attempt to give an excuse to not wear it. It was sweet, no matter how ridiculous it sounded. She threw her arms around him and squealed in response to his reasoning. The last thing she wanted was to make him feel uncomfortable, so Lavender figured a positive reaction would make him feel better about the whole ordeal.
“That’s so sweet, Won-Won! I’m glad you liked it!”
His face turned a blotchy red as they entered the hall and found a seat at the Gryffindor table. Lavender chose not to press the issue anymore as she turned to her thoughts instead. Maybe the locket wasn’t the best idea to give a boyfriend of only a month. But she’d never felt this way before. Seamus had been a fun fling, but with Ron, she felt different. He made her feel all warm and fuzzy inside, and she hoped she hadn’t given him the wrong impression with the gift.
She’d just have to make it up to him in other ways. Yes, that was it. Lavender would make sure he knew how much she cared while also making sure his eye didn’t continue wandering toward her roommate and his former best friend.

14 February 1997
Can I go where you go?
Can we always be this close forever and ever?
~Lover
Lavender sat alone in the empty classroom, waiting for Ron to show up after rounds. Rounds! Why did he have to have rounds today, of all days?  It was completely and utterly unfair. He promised her he’d meet her in the empty classroom near Gryffindor tower as soon as rounds were over, but it was already ten past eleven, and he was nowhere to be found.
She hadn’t gotten him anything this time for fear it might embarrass him again, just like the locket. Oh yes, she’d heard Harry telling Neville about his Christmas present while she was searching for a book in the library, and she heard every excruciating detail of how mortified Ron was by it. Apparently, it wasn’t under his pillow after all. It was hidden in the bottom of his trunk. So, for Valentine’s Day, she opted to give him something he could hang onto in his mind instead.
At least, that’s what she planned. Lavender took to pacing the classroom for another ten minutes before resigning to the fact that Ron wasn’t coming. A pang of disappointment rippled out from her heart, and she tried to convince herself that maybe he’d forgotten. But ever since they’d returned from Christmas hols, she felt Ron pulling further and further away. Before the two week break, they’d gone off to spend time together every night, snogging in empty classrooms and broom closets, and sometimes even a late-night walk around the castle. Now, she was lucky if she could pry him away from his studies twice a week to spend some quality time together.
Sure, they ate meals together and sat next to each other in their shared classes, but it wasn’t like they ever talked that much. Come to think of it, every time she’d try to ask about his life, he’d always deflect to her. And of course, Lavender never had a problem finding something to talk about with her family because she wanted to share everything she could with Ron. Yet now, she was wondering if he actually cared or if he was just being polite.
Thoughts consumed her mind as she walked silently back to Gryffindor tower. By the time she entered the common room, it was deserted. Part of her thought about checking to see if Ron was back in the dorms, but the other side told her it wasn’t worth it. It’d be his own fault if he got caught sneaking around after hours without her since he’d ditched her on what was supposed to be the most romantic night of the year.
The last thing she wanted to do was go up to her dorm and face Hermione’s smug look when she found out Ron ditched his girlfriend tonight, but she wasn’t about to hang around the common room like a rejected piece of garbage.
Ron is still yours. Not hers. Even if tonight didn’t go as planned, still make her remember that.
So, when she entered the girl’s sixth-year dorm, Lavender plastered a smile on her face. Parvati was sitting on her bed while Hermione’s curtains were closed tight.
“Hey! I was wondering when you were going to show up. Have a good night?”
“Oh, it was the best!” Lavender gushed. “Ron was so sweet and romantic. He gave me some chocolate frogs, which I know are his favorite, and I gave him...well, you know.”
She made her voice sound as suggestive as possible, and if Hermione was listening, then that was her own fault.
“I need to freshen up now. I’m rather sweaty from all that we got up to. And then I should head to bed. We’ll talk more in the morning, Par, I promise. Ron thoroughly wore me out, I’m exhausted.”
What neither girl realized, though, was that Lavender let out a good cry in the shower instead. Because her boyfriend ditched her on her favorite day of the year.

  Cause I can’t pretend it’s okay when it’s not
It’s death by a thousand cuts
~Death by a Thousand Cuts
“I’m sure he’s just on a lot of potions, Lav. I wouldn’t think too much of it.”
Parvati was attempting to comfort her best friend. Lavender had had a rotten weekend. Ron was poisoned yesterday, on his birthday of all days! Not that the day mattered. He was still poisoned, and he could have died!
What did make it worse was that nobody thought to tell her until well into the afternoon. She’d burst into the Hospital Wing to find his best friend, sister, and her sitting vigil at his bedside. Lavender didn’t think she’d ever been so livid in her life. And then he’d croaked something out in his sleep that sounded like a name, but it was not hers.
She felt the entire relationship slipping through her fingers. When did things start to take a turn for the worse? What went wrong? Surely he still fancied her because if he didn’t, then why hadn’t he called things off?
Because he does still fancy you. Of course, he does! Don’t worry about her. She means nothing to him.
Lavender tried with all her might to believe it, but it was becoming harder and harder every day. And despite her best friend’s attempts to make her feel better, it wasn’t doing any good. Parvati wasn’t outside the Hospital Wing with Lav when she overheard Ron talking to Harry and asking for Quidditch magazines. There was no question that he was awake, but as soon as she walked in, Ron ‘magically’ appeared to be sleeping again. And Harry had the audacity to cover for him!
She’d tried to go see him two more times that day, and both times he was ‘sleeping.’ Something happened, and he was avoiding her, and it hurt. But how could she call him out on it when he was ‘asleep’?
She thought about whether she should confide in Parvati or just internalize her feelings. Parvati had been there through everything, but Lavender decided she wasn’t ready to bring up her speculations until she had more proof. So instead, Lavender chose to keep her thoughts to herself.
Did she want to break things off with Ron? No. Was she willing to do what it took to keep him around? Yes. So, Lavender resolved to do whatever it took to keep Ron interested. She’d back off, not be as needy, and keep things cool and breezy. They could make this work. She was sure of it.

And I don’t want you to (go) I don’t really wanna (fight)
‘Cause nobody’s gonna (win) I just thought you should know
~Miss Americana and the Heart Break Prince
Lavender entered the common room after Divination to see Ron sitting on the couch next to Harry. The two were furiously scribbling on parchment, and Lavender couldn't help but roll her eyes at what she assumed to be a last-minute attempt to finish one of his assignments. Even so, she figured she’d surprise him and see if he could be persuaded to take a break and go for a walk instead.
She dropped her bag behind the sofa and covered Ron’s eyes with her hands. “Guess who!”
“Oi!” Ron flung his arms back, sending ink droplets flying over his and Harry’s parchment, as well as the table and upholstery of the sofa in the process.
Lavender ripped her hands off his eyes and apologized with a pout. “It’s only me, Won-Won. I just wanted to surprise you.”
“Oh, er, sorry, Lav. I’m busy right now. I need to finish Snape’s Defense essay.”
The words sounded apologetic, but the lack of sympathy in Ron’s expression caused unease to bubble up in Lavender’s stomach. Usually, he’s better about hiding his disinterest in showing affection around his friends. But the way he’d acted just now made her feel like he was downright repulsed by an innocent touch.
“But that essay isn’t due until tomorrow. I still have to put the final touches on mine as well. Maybe we could go for a walk now and work on it together after dinner?”
Sure, the snogging was brilliant, but that’s all they ever seemed to do. She wanted to make things work between them, and after five months, she knew they’d never have a successful relationship if it stayed strictly physical. Besides, that clearly wasn’t working in an effort to keep him interested anymore.
“Sorry, Lav, I can’t. I’ve got rounds tonight.”
Another pang of hurt emanated in her chest at his rejection. “Oh, well, maybe I could work on it with you now, then?”
She knew what his answer was going to be before he said anything. He was already packing up his things.
“Er, maybe on another assignment. I’ve got to hit the library before dinner and see if I can find one more source. I’ll meet up with you later, though, yeah?”
Ron was already out of his seat and headed for the door without bothering to wait for a response, which further solidified Lavender’s suspicion that it was an offer he didn’t intend to follow through on. Ordinarily, she would have given him the benefit of the doubt, but it’d been three weeks of him avoiding her ever since he and Hermione had reconciled. With a heavy sigh, she picked up her bag and headed for the girl’s dormitory, where she passed Hermione on the stairwell.
“Let me guess, Ron’s busy?” Parvati asked, saving Lavender from having to retell the excuse.
“Yeah. He has rounds tonight, I guess.”
  “Huh.”
  “What?”
“Hermione has rounds tonight, too. Padma said they switched back for the month.”
Lavender felt as though a fifty-pound weight had been placed on her chest as her heart constricted at Parvati’s news. She knew this was coming but refused to believe it, choosing instead to turn a blind eye to all the signs. A tear escaped out of the corner of her eye as she tried to come to terms with the fact that no matter what she did, Hermione was going to win. Which led her to wonder whether Ron had ever truly been hers at all.
Well, good. If Ron’s not interested anymore, then he can be a man and break things off. And if he’s too much of a coward to do it on his own, then I’ll do everything in my power to help push him along, all while reminding Hermione that he’s still mine in the process.
Maybe it was spiteful, but Lavender no longer cared. Deep down, she knew their relationship was probably doomed from the start, but that didn’t lessen the pain. Perhaps she never stood a chance, especially knowing his relationship with Hermione never was a typical friendship, but Ron could have told her no all those months ago if that was the case. Their fleeting relationship may have come to pass, but at least Lavender had the memories of time spent together to look back on when he had cared. Because he had cared once, right?

All Three ~ Nolan Patrick
Tumblr media
A/N: this is based on the song All Three by Noah Cyrus. Also i have no idea what it’s like to have migraines and I obviously don’t know how it was for Nolan either, my depiction in this is just what I thought would fit with the story.
Warnings: mentions of sex, swearing, verbal fights, playful arguing
Word count: 6.9k
Nolan Patrick…your best friend, your lover, your kryptonite.
It's the classic friends with benefits scenario…you met when he came to Philly and the rest is history. Your cousin, Meg had been dating Travis Sanheim and she always dragged you along to outings so you had become pretty familiar with the Flyers.
The night you met Nolan you knew you were in for it. You had walked into Scott's apartment trailing behind Meg and Travis and you immediately locked eyes with an unfamiliar face across the room. He immediately blushed and his mouth twitched up a bit in an attempt at a smile. You gave him a small smile back and then were interrupted by a few of the guys giving you hugs.
You were intrigued by the guy across the room, you figured he was a rookie, a super cute rookie, and you really wanted to meet him. It was a little while before you finally did, you wandered into the kitchen with your cousin to grab a drink and then of course you caught up in conversation. But finally, halfway through the night you were being introduced.
"Nolan, Travis, this is y/n, y/n, this Nolan and Travis." Ghosty introduced you to the two rookies. You shook their hands and greeted them sweetly. "It's nice to meet you!"
"It's nice to meet you too." The shorter of the two, Travis, greeted. "So how do you fit in with the mix here?"
"My cousin is dating Travis Sanheim and they drag me along to things like these."
"Oh, sweet. Do you go to school here?"
"Yeah, I'm a sophomore at UPenn."
"Wow, don't you have to be like really smart to go there?"
You blushed at Travis' question. Although you had worked super hard to get into UPenn, you hated when people would make a big deal about it. And you never knew how to answer this question without sounding like an asshole. "Um, I mean I guess so…you have to get good grades and be involved in a lot."
"So, probably no chance for me?" Travis joked.
You giggled and shook your head looking over at Nolan who had been pretty quiet the whole conversation. His cheeks flushed a bit more when you looked at him and he realized that he should probably say something. "What are you studying?"
Your breath hitched upon hearing Nolan's voice. It was deep and a bit raspy and you were even more intrigued. "Environmental Studies." You answered with a small smile.
"Cool, so you like the outdoors?" Travis asked.
"Yeah, I've always lived in the city, but I like to get out whenever I can and go camping and hike and stuff."
Nolan immediately knew that he wanted to get to know her more. He was happy that she said she came to stuff like this a lot and he'd have the opportunity to hang out with her.
Meg came barreling into the three of you, grabbing your arm to pull you towards the pong table.
"Sorry boys, she's needed for beer pong!!" She called over her shoulder and you shot them an apologetic smile as she dragged you across the room.
You and Meg dominated, as always, so you were occupied with beer pong for quite some time. But once you finally got knocked out, you looked around for Nolan because you really wanted to talk to him again. You spotted him in walking towards the kitchen so you decided to follow.
He sensed a presence behind him and smiled when he turned and saw that it was you.
"Beer?" He asked holding a bottle out for you.
You nodded and took it from his hand, "thank you."
He grabbed one for himself and leaned against the counter. "You're quite the player."
You smirked at his compliment, "yeah, we're not all total nerds at UPenn, I've had my practice."
"So, are you from Philly?" He asked after a few moments of silence.
"Yup, born and raised…"
"You say that like it's a bad thing…"
"I love it here, I do, but sometimes I wish I had gone somewhere else for school. Just to experience something else, you know?"
Nolan nodded, "Yeah, I left home when I was a teenager for hockey, it's nice to see what else is out there but there's definitely no place like home."
You smiled at his comment, he was very soothing. You had only known him for a few hours but you already felt super comfortable around him.
You stayed in the kitchen with him and talked for the rest of the night. You hadn't even noticed how late it had gotten until Travis came looking for you telling you that you needed to go because Meg was super wasted.
"Okay, I'll be right out." You assured him so that you could try and invite Nolan back to your place.
"It was really nice talking with you, y/n…" Nolan said.
"Would you maybe wanna come back to my place?" You asked with a smirk.
He smiled and nodded, "let me just go to tell TK."
You walked up to Travis and Meg, "Nolan is gonna come back with me, so you can guys just go home." Travis raised his eyebrows, "are you sure?"
You nodded, "yeah, I'm good. I promise."
"Okay…" Travis said hesitantly. "Text me when you get home please…and if you need anything." Although Nolan seemed like a good guy, Travis still didn't really know him and he was protective of you.
"Will do. Thanks, Travis. Good luck with Meg."
"Yeah, bets she passes out in the Uber…"
You laugh at his prediction and say goodbye to Meg.
You turn around and Nolan is approaching you. "You ready?" You nod in response and go downstairs to wait for your Uber. Conversation seemed to just flow and you talked the whole way to your apartment.
Your roommates thankfully were both in their rooms for the night so you didn't have to deal with any introductions.
"Do you want anything to drink?" You whispered as you entered your apartment.
"I'll have some water if that's okay." You nodded and handed him a water bottle before leading him down the hallway to your room. Unsurprisingly, you talked for a little bit longer before he finally made a move and started kissing you.
You melted into his grasp as soon as you felt his lips on yours. The faint taste of beer on his lips had you desperate for more.
 --
Ever since that first night he had you locked in. You hooked up a few nights a week when he was in Philly. You kept in touch when he was on road trips and when he went back to Winnipeg for the off season, you even visited him there a few times. He had grown to become your best friend. As the two of you got closer it wasn't always about sex, he'd come over after a tough loss, you'd confide in him when you were stressed about school or your friends. But despite how close the two of you were, you never felt your relationship progressed to anything more than friends.
Everyone always thought you two were a couple, he invited you to team events as his plus one, you went on dates, you were exclusive, you argued like you were married…but for some reason you never put the label on it. You didn't totally mind…you were both still very young and not to mention putting a title on it really wouldn't change your relationship at all so you supposed it didn't matter. It would happen when it happens and that was fine… or so you thought.
I really hate when you say you love me, those spoken words are wet concrete
And in your arms I feel so lucky, weightless when you lie on me
It started to really fuck you up when he said those three forbidden words. I love you. Well, in your case it was two, and not as meaningful or intimate as it usually is said for the first time.
You guys had been together, or doing whatever you were doing, for two years. He was leaving for a week long road trip and you were at his place helping him pack before you brought him to the airport.
"Hey, y/n/n?" Nolan called from the bedroom. "Have you seen my black tie?"
"I'm ironing it right now!" You yelled back from the living room.
Once you finished ironing his dress clothes you brought them into his bedroom for him to pack.
"Thank you." He said before giving you a quick kiss and zipping them carefully into his bag.
"Do you want to eat anything before you go?" You asked.
"Can you make me a ham sandwich, please?" He asked with a childish grin.
You chuckled and shook your head, "of course."
You looked at the time and figured he'd need to eat in the car so you packaged it up so he could take it with him. Just as you finished, he emerged from the hallway with his bags in hand. You grabbed him a bottle of water and put it in a bag with his sandwich. You double checked with him that he had everything and you headed down to the car. You drove so Nolan could eat and the rest of the car ride was spent humming along to the music.
"Do you want any help?" You asked as you put the car in the park out front.
"No, I'm all set." He said as he slid out of the car. You got out after him and stood by as he gathered his bags. "Thank you for your help this morning."
"Anytime, Nols. Text me when you land, please."
"Will do," he assured as he leaned down to kiss you, "love you, babe."
You stood there shocked at his words as he walked away seemingly unbothered. True to his word, he had texted you when they landed and texted you throughout the week as normal. You were kind of expecting some sort of explanation, at least an acknowledgement of what he had said but it seemed like it just slipped out and he didn't think anything of it. You however, spent the whole week overthinking and freaking out.
Of course you had thought about if you loved Nolan or not, but you just never thought saying it was on the table because of the status of your relationship. You hoped that when he returned he'd have something to say about it but he didn't. And you were the biggest chicken in the world so you never brought it up. He didn't say it too often, mostly when he'd leave for a road trip or if you weren't going to see each other for a while. You had been trying to build up the courage to say it back but you could never bring yourself to do it.
It didn't seem to bother him that you didn't say it back. Which made you really think it wasn't that big of a deal for him, which is what confused and frustrated you so much. You didn't understand how he could be so nonchalant about it all the time. Was he that dense? Or were you really just overthinking it? It got to the point where you hated to hear him say it. But it didn't matter how much you hated to hear it, because you knew you loved him too.
Nolan was not known for showing much emotion. But you weren't either so it worked out for the two of you. You had other ways of expressing your feelings for each other. For you, it was helping him prepare for road trips, cooking him dinner, rubbing his shoulders, and when they started, helping him through his migraines. For him, it was bringing you coffee and dinner when you were cramming for an exam, always making sure you had Reese's and a bottle Sauvignon Blanc on hand, going for walks with you, taking you to concerts… but your favorite moments with Nolan were when the two of you were lying in bed or on the couch. Not doing anything, maybe you have a show on in the background, but you weren't paying attention to it. Instead you were listening to Nolan's heartbeat, focusing on his soft breathing. You were often under him, him acting as the perfect weighted blanket to help you feel at ease.
 --
But darling if I could, I would fall for someone good, someone good for me
No matter how good the highs are, there of course some lows. Nothing too awful, but with the uncertainties of your relationship comes some strain. Sometimes the time spent together is too much, you feel overwhelmed, Nolan feels too much pressure… and you're never sure if you can work through it. You obviously always have, but each time you have a falling out it feels like the end.
You had been sitting at home all night trying to reach Nolan. He had been having his migraines for a little while now and you were worried because you hadn't heard from him all day and he wasn't the playing in the game. You knew that if it was anything super serious, someone would have contacted you but you couldn't help but worry about him. You finally decided to go over to his place and see if he was okay.
You knocked quietly upon arrival wanting to give him a chance to answer the door. After a few minutes of silence you decided to just go in. His apartment was dark, which wasn't unusual during a bad migraine, so you made your way back to his bedroom. His door was cracked so you pushed it open and saw Nolan lying down on the bed.
"Nolan." You whispered with no response. "Nolan." You whispered a little louder this time. He moved a bit so you knew he heard you but he still didn't say anything. You walked over to the bed and gently sat down next to him. "Are you okay?" He grunted in response, still not what you wanted, but something nonetheless. "I'm sorry for just coming, but I was worried…I haven't heard from you all day."
"You can see that I'm alive so you can leave now."
You sighed at his cold tone, you had heard it before and you knew better than to push so you got up to leave. You stopped before the door and turned towards him, "let me know if you need anything." You didn't wait for a response knowing that you probably wouldn't get one so you left his apartment.
You tried to your best not to be upset by the interaction. You didn't know how Nolan felt in those moments and you wanted to give him what he needed, even if it meant him not wanting you around. It certainly wasn't the first time he shut you out and you knew it wouldn't be the last, but that didn't make it hurt any less.
What made this time different was your interaction the next day. Usually after a night like that, he would apologize for how he treated you and would explain he just really needed to be alone. You of course always forgave him and things went back to normal. But this time, there was no apology, just more hostility.
He had texted you asking if you could bring over something to eat. You asked him what he wanted and he said he didn't care, "get whatever you want."
You decided to just go to the store and get a few different things so he had options. When you showed up to his place he was on the couch with his eyes closed, so you quietly shut the door and put your bags down in the kitchen. You were putting a few things away when you heard him speak. "What did you bring?"
You walked over to him so you didn't have to yell, "I got a few things from the store…I got stuff for sandwiches, frozen pizza, soup…"
"Alright thanks." Was all he said. You stood there for a minute not knowing what to do. "What are you doing?" He asked looking over at you.
"I, um, well…" you fumbled out, taken aback by his tone, "do you want me to make something for you?"
"Just make me a sandwich I guess."
You nodded and walked away without another word.
A few minutes later, you brought his sandwich to him on a plate and set it down a little harder than you probably should have. But you were starting to get upset so you didn't really care. He glared at you in response but thanked you as he sat up and grabbed it. You walked back into the kitchen and put everything away.
"I'm gonna go, I guess. Let me know when you're feeling better." You said as he walked by him to put your coat on.
"Why are you leaving?"
"Well it's clear you're still not doing well, so I'm just gonna leave you alone." "I never told you that you needed to leave." "You didn't have to, Nolan." "What's your problem?" "I don't want to fight, especially if you’re still not feeling good, so I'm just gonna go."
"Why do we need to fight? I just asked you a question."
"Really? 'What’s your problem?' isn't exactly an innocent question."
"Well I don't really understand why you've got such an attitude." "I'm trying not to lose my patience Nolan, but you're making it really difficult." "Why?!" he asked starting to raise his voice, "What did I do?" "You're kind of treating me like shit, Nolan. I'm sorry that you had a bad migraine yesterday, and I'm sorry if I made it worse by coming here last night, but I was worried. I understand it's hard for you, but I hadn't heard from you all day. You usually let me in and help you through them and it’s fine if that's not what you want or need but you don't get to be a dick to me about it. You asked me to bring you food, I did, and you're still being rude to me. I don't mind being here Nols, I want to be here, but if you're going to act like this I'm not interested."
"You have no idea how hard it is for me, y/n," he yelled at you, "I didn't ask you to come over last night, I'm sorry you were worried but I can't put my migraine on hold just to make you feel better."
"I know that, Nolan! That's why I left once I saw that you were okay! But you were obviously okay enough this morning to text me asking for food, and you're obviously okay enough right now to be yelling at me! I know that I don't know how hard it is for you, but I'm doing my best to be here for you and support you however I can. I know that you can't always text me or call me, and that's fine. But the way you're treating me right now is not okay." "You don't have to be here for me all the time. You didn't have to bring me food today if you really didn't want to. You can say no, y/n, you don't owe me anything."
You were hurt by his words but you tried your best not to show it. "I wanted to bring you food because I care about you! I want to be here for you! It just doesn't seem like you want me here. You've been nothing but cold to me since you texted me this morning! I don't mind doing these things for you, Nol, but you could at least act grateful."
"Whatever, y/n/n. Just go I guess. I'm not arguing with you anymore."
You opened your mouth but you didn't know what you would even say, so you put your coat on and left.
It had been a few days since your fight and you hadn't spoken to him at all. It was awful timing because you had midterms coming up and you were too distracted to study.
You were currently trying to force your way through a study guide when you got a call from Meg. You sighed and answered the phone. "Hey, Meg."
"Hey, y/n/n, what's up?" "Trying to study…what about you?" "You're not going to the game tonight?"
"No, I really need to study." "But I thought you were going…?" "Yeah, well plans change. I can't go anymore." You heard some mumbling in the background, which you assumed was Travis. A few moments later Meg spoke up again.
"Are you and Nolan fighting?"
You rolled your eyes and sighed, "We had a pretty big fight the other day and I haven't talked to him since. But regardless, I need to study. I have midterms next week."
"Travis said Nolan has been grumpier than usual. What did you fight about?"
"His migraines I guess??? I don't even know, I tried standing up for myself but he wasn't having it so I left."
"You haven't talked at all since?" "Nope, not a word." "Are you okay?" "I don't know, not really honestly. But I really can't dwell on it right now because I need to focus on studying." "And how is that going for you?" "Not very well." "Okay, so why don't you come over and we can talk about it. If you're not studying anyway it might help to get things off your chest."
You sighed as you thought about it, knowing that she was right you agreed and got your things together to go over there.
She had a glass of wine waiting for you and you sat down and told her everything.
"Okay, well you were right to stand up yourself. You've done a lot for him recently and you don't deserve to be treated that way."
"Yeah, but he's right, I didn't have to do any of it for him. He didn't ask, I just did it." "Okay so you didn't have to, but despite your weird ass relationship, it's not that crazy that you did. Everything you've done for Nolan I would do for Travis in a heartbeat. Yeah, we're engaged and it's a little different, but you and Nolan have something really special. It's beyond me and everyone in the world for that matter, why you two don't just get over yourselves and date officially. You've worked through fights in the past, you'll work through this too." "But they've never been this big before. And I don't like that it was about his migraines. Even if he apologizes who's to say that he won't act like this again. I feel like I can't fault him for it because it's his way of dealing with them. But I also know that I don't deserve to be treated that way so I just feel like we're not meant to be." "Y/n, that's bullshit and you know it. You and Nolan are like, the perfect match. It's been a few days, I'm sure he's feeling better, you've both calmed down, so sit down and talk about it. You know you're not going to be able to study until you do."
You sighed knowing that she was right, "okay…yeah you're right. I'll text him."
You: Hey, Nol.
You relaxed into the couch, feeling a sense of relief now that you've had some sort of contact. You took a few sips of wine as you waited, but thankfully it wasn't too long.
Nolan: Hey, y/n/n…
You: Can we talk?
Nolan: Yeah, wanna come over after the game?
You: Yeah, just text me when you get home.
Nolan: You're not coming to the game?
You: I wasn't going to…I really need to study.
Nolan: Oh, okay. I guess I'll see you later.
You decided not to respond, you still weren't super happy with him, so you didn't think you needed to defend your decision.
"Alright, I'm going over there to talk after the game." You updated Meg.
"Good. So you'll get ready with me???" She asked hopefully.
"Sorry, Meg. I do really need to try and study. I'm gonna head out."
"Fine," she pouted, "but you better let me know how it goes tonight!!!"
"I will, bye Meg."
Between having the game on in the background and thinking about what you were going to say, you weren't able to get much studying done. But you still tried your hardest until you received a text from Nolan telling you that he was leaving the arena.
You were hoping he would be in an okay mood…they won the game but Nolan didn't play. You didn't think he was having a migraine, it was probably more of a precaution, but nonetheless he'd be upset that he wasn't playing.
When you got to Nolan's he was sitting on the couch with two glasses of water in front of him. You smiled at the gesture, although it quickly faded when you remembered why you were even here. He stood up to greet you and you went and sat next to him on the couch.
"That was a good game…"
"You watched?" "Of course."
Nolan nodded, "I just wish I could have played…"
You smiled sadly, "I know, I'm sorry, Nols. Not feeling good?" He sighed and leaned back, "I don't know, I mean, I feel like I could have played, but it's just not worth the risk of bringing one on…"
You sat in silence for a little bit, neither of you knowing where to start. Just as you were about to speak up, Nolan beat you to it. "I'm really sorry for the way I treated you the other day. I know that you were just trying to help and I know that you don't have to do those things for me but I really do appreciate it. I shouldn't have yelled at you and I shouldn't have dismissed you the way that I did. I know it's not a great excuse, but it was just really bad the other night, I knew that I wasn't going to be fun to be around that's why I didn't want you here. But I don't have an excuse for how I treated you that morning. I had no right to say those things to you, I don't even really know what came over me. You've always been amazing to me and you do mean so much to me, y/n/n, you have no idea. I just hope that you'll forgive me…" "I appreciate your apology, Nols. My intention is never to overcrowd you or make you feel like you need my help. I'm here to help you with whatever you need and it's okay if you need some space too. It'd just be nice to be let down a little easier…"
Nolan smirked at your last comment, "I know, I'm sorry. I promise I will be better at communicating my needs with you." He put his arm around you and pulled you into his side. You rested your head on his chest and he kissed the top of your head.
 --
You're my nemesis, you're my best friend
We nearly walk on common ground
You really didn't have big fights like that often, but you did however argue about stupid, little things all of the time.
One of the things that drove you absolutely nuts about your relationship with Nolan was how different the two of you were when it came to planning things and being on time. Nolan was very "go with the flow" and "we'll get there when we get there" which you loved for him…but you were much different. You liked to have things planned and you absolutely hated being late.
You were hanging out at your apartment one Friday afternoon watching Netflix when you got a text from Nolan.
Nolan: Hey, I need a date to an event tonight. I'll pick you up at 6:45.
You looked at the time and it was almost 2 o'clock.
Me: Whoa, whoa, whoa…what kind of event?
Nolan: Pretty fancy, black tie.
Me: Nolan!!!!! I don't have anything to wear!!!
Nolan: You have tons of dresses.
Me: Not any that fit black tie!
Nolan: Oh, well if you go now you'll have time to get one.
You scoffed and shook your head. Of course, he'd tell you about an event a few hours before and be so nonchalant about it.
Me: Fine, but I'm not happy.
Nolan: Why? You love these things.
Me: Yeah, when I have time to prepare for them!
Nolan: What do you need to prepare for? Just get a dress and do your makeup or whatever.
You chose not to respond to that because you didn't actually want to start a fight. It was also hard to actually be mad at him when he really had no idea what was wrong with the current situation.
You sent an SOS text to Meg and asked her to meet you at Nordstrom to help you pick something out.
Two hours later, there was a mound of dresses and jumpsuits in your dressing room but you finally found the perfect one. It was a beautiful, sleek, black, satin jersey gown.
"You look so hot, y/n/n." Meg complimented as you spun around in front of the mirror.
"Thanks…I just still can't believe I'm just finding out about this stupid gala." "Yeah, it's a little annoying. But look at you, you found the perfect dress and you still have time to get ready."
"I know, I just hate when he does this. You know how I am about stuff like this." "Yes, I know, Miss Organized…but it's not the end of the world."
You rolled your eyes at your cousin and went into the dressing room to change.
You hopped in the shower once you got home and did your hair and makeup as quickly as you could while still making it look good.
You heard Nolan come into your apartment and you glanced at the time because you weren't ready yet. You breathed a sigh of relief to see that it was only 6:30. You finished up your makeup, put on your heels, and grabbed your coat before walking down the hall to greet Nolan. He stood up from the couch when he heard you coming but was engrossed in his phone so he didn't look up at you. You rolled your eyes and cleared your throat to get his attention.
"You ready?" He asked without looking up.
You ignored his question and said his name firmly, "Nolan." He finally looked up at you but still didn't say anything about how you looked. "Do I look okay?"
"Yeah, I don't know what you were so worried about, babe. You look amazing."
"Don't make a habit of, Nols. I was super stressed about it."
He gave you an incredulous look but sighed and nodded his head, "sorry, princess. I'll make sure to tell you a year in advance next time."
You rolled your eyes at his sarcasm and walked towards the door.

One other thing about you and Nolan was that you bickered…constantly. He honestly drove you nuts more often than not but for some reason that was why you loved him so much.
You would argue about what to have for dinner.
 "Pizza?" He suggested.
"We always have pizza, what about Chinese?" You protested.
He rolled his eyes at your suggestion, "we always have Chinese, too."
"Sushi?"
Nolan shook his head, "I don't feel like sushi." "Sandwiches?"
"Nah…" "Well, I don't know, Nolan! Why don't we just go to the store and make something." "That'll take too long." You rolled your eyes and shook your head. "Whatever, just pick something, I don't care."
"You say that now but you're going to complain about it as soon as it gets here."
"Well we can't agree on anything so whatever, just get what you want." You didn't give him a chance to argue as you stomped down the hall to do some homework.
 You always argued about directions.
"Why are you going this way?" Nolan asked as you made a turn.
"Because it's faster. There's always a ton of traffic the other way." "No it's not, this way is like 30 minutes longer. Even with traffic we'll get there faster the other way." "No we won't, Nolan. I drive this way all the time, it's fine, trust me." "Whatever you say, we're gonna be late though." "No we're not." "Yes we are." "No we're not!" "Yes we are." "Fine, if you're so worried about it, you drive." You huffed out as you pulled over and threw the car in park and got out of the car. Nolan shook his head at how ridiculous you were being but switched places with you anyway.
You ended up getting there 10 minutes late.
"I told you the other way was faster." You said as you climbed out of the car.
Nolan scoffed, "if you hadn't thrown a fit and just kept driving we would have been on time." "Are you kidding me? It took two minutes to switch places. That's not why we're late." "Whatever.…" He grumbled as he shot you a glare. You stuck your tongue out at him and he shook his head walking a few steps in front of you.
He hated that you always hogged the blankets.
To no surprise, Nolan woke up in the middle of night shivering with no blankets on. He sighed angrily and tried to pull the blankets over to him. He wasn't successful because you were all wrapped up in them and they were impossible to move.
"Y/n." He said nudging your shoulder. "Y/n/n." You stirred a bit but didn't wake up. "Y/n." He said louder. Nothing. He sighed again grabbed his water bottle from the nightstand. He poured a little bit on your face and you shot up in shock.
"What the fuck, Nolan?!"
"You were hogging the blankets!" "So you dumped water on me?!"
"You wouldn't wake up!" "You're such an ass." You seethed as you pulled the blanket back to you and rolled over to face away from him. Nolan scoffed at your action and tugged on the blanket. "Get your own blanket if you're so concerned about it." You said as you held onto it so he couldn't have any.
"And I'm the ass…" He muttered in defeat as he got up to grab a blanket from the other room.
You hated the way he put the toilet paper on the holder.
"Nolan!!!" You screamed from the bathroom. You were pretty sure at this point he was doing it just to piss you off. You hated when people put the toilet paper on upside down. The right way to put it was so the tail was on top. It flowed so much better and you didn't understand how people could think that it’s okay the other way.
As you angrily switched it around, Nolan was out in the living room smirking because he knew exactly what you were yelling about. He feigned innocence as you came stomping down the hallway yelling at him for putting it on like that. "Oh, I'm sorry babe, I didn't mean to."
You rolled your eyes at him and scoffed. "Seriously, Nolan. You know it pisses me off." "I know, I’m sorry, I just don't think about it when I'm changing it, because it's really not a big deal. It's just toilet paper."
"Yeah, but it's so much easier when it's right side up."
"Some would argue that you have it wrong." "Yeah they might, but they're stupid. If you don’t care, why can't you just put it the way I like it." "I try to, babe, I just forget sometimes." "Well please, try and remember."
"Aye, aye, Captain."
A few days later, Nolan went into the bathroom and chuckled when he saw a sign posted by the extra toilet paper.
Please put toilet the right side up. Thank you :)
Deciding he wanted to dance with the devil, he switched the toilet paper so it was the "wrong way." It took a while, but a few hours later he was in the kitchen grabbing a snack when he heard his name being yelled from the bathroom. He laughed and shook his head, preparing for the storm that was coming his way.
 --
But we're suckers for the thrill, playing fuck, marry, and kill
Honey you're all three.
No matter how much argued, bickered, or fought, you loved him. He was your person. You were with each other for your best moments and you stuck by each other through your worst.
Your best friend, your lover, your soulmate. And you wouldn't have it any other way.
 ---
You and Nolan were enjoying a rare day off you had together lounging around the apartment. Nolan had noticed that one of his favorite bands, Mt. Joy were on Instagram live. He shot them a quick text asking if it was okay if he joined. They of course said yes so he hopped on.
You were in the kitchen baking cookies, only half listening to what Nolan was saying. However, you immediately stopped what you were doing when you heard something that Nolan said. "I'm just hanging out at home with my girlfriend. Enjoying the day off." Once you got over the initial shock you listened more intently to see if he would say anything more about it. "Yeah, we've been together for a while. Pretty much since I came to Philly." Your jaw dropped. Of course. Of course he would play it off as if you've been dating for years. Apparently you were lost in thought for longer than you thought because the next thing you know Nolan came up and waved his hand in front of your face. "You there?"
"Oh yeah, sorry." "What are you thinking about?"
"I'm your girlfriend, huh?"
He smirked at your tone, "of course you're my girlfriend. Am I not your boyfriend?" "Oh my god, Nolan!"
"What?!" "How long have I been your girlfriend?" He shrugged, "I don't know, I thought we were always kind of dating."
You scoffed, "unbelievable." He gave you a questioning look but you shrugged him off. "Nothing…never mind."
"No, tell me." He insisted.
"It's just, we never really talked about it or had the conversation so I didn't think we were actually boyfriend and girlfriend." "So we've just been…what, a thing? For three and a half years?"
"Well, I don't know, I guess. We've never celebrated an anniversary or anything. And this is the first time I've ever heard you call me you your girlfriend." "Oh, well, I'm sorry y/n/n. I guess after it had been so long I just kind of assumed." You gave him an amused huff. "What? Should we have talked about it?"
"No, no, I guess not…" you reassured, "it's just so…us."
"Us?" "Our whole relationship has been me overthinking and you under thinking, apparently…no offense."
He chuckled at your explanation. "You've been overthinking our relationship?"
"Well, yeah! I never knew what we were but you never seemed worried about it so I didn't want to bring it up."
"Okay…so if you need it spelled out for you…" he started earning himself an eye roll from you, "will you be my girlfriend?"
"I thought I already was?" You replied with a playful smirk.
He rolled his eyes at your teasing but teased you right back. "So are we good? We didn't just break up, did we?"
"No, I love you too much to give you up that easy." He raised his eyebrows at your admission. "Oh, you love me, huh?" You stuttered a bit, realizing that because you had been so insecure you had never actually said it back. "See I notice things, not such an under thinker, am I?"
"I'm sorry, it's my overthinking... I always just thought it kind of slipped out when you said it and because I didn't know what we were I was scared if I said it back things would end." "What?!" He asked, looking at you like you had two heads. "How does that even make sense?!" "I don't know!!" You defended, "I just thought…I don't know... I guess I really don't have an explanation. Just that I'm a little bit crazy."
"It's okay, I already knew that. Your insistence that there is a correct way to put toilet paper on the holder was a dead giveaway."
"Ha ha ha…" you fake laughed, "you do put it the right way now, though…"
"I can't have you going off the rails on me…"
You gently shoved him and shook your head. He smiled and cupped your face in his hands. "I love you, y/n/n. I always have and I always will."
"I love you too, Nolly." You said with a smirk.
Nolan grimaced at the nickname, "okay, maybe not when you call me that."
"Oh, come on, Nolly. You know you love it." "I don't...but I love you so I'll let it slide."
You stood on your tip toes prompting Nolan to bend down so you could kiss him. He picked you up and set you on the counter and you made out for a few minutes.
"As much as I want to make sweet, sweet love to you baby, this dough smells really good…" He said, suggesting you finish the cookies.
"Aye, aye, captain." You saluted as you pushed him out of the way and hopped off the counter.
--
For the rest of your life with Nolan, there wasn't a day that went by where you didn't want to fuck, marry, and kill him. But it never stopped you from loving him.

Hiding Your Wolf (Dark!Steve Rogers x Reader)
Warnings - 18+ dark fic, kidnapping, noncon/dubcon, public nudity, smut, werewolves, A/B/O dynamics.
Word count 1.8k
Summary - you’ve been hiding your wolf your whole life. You know you shouldn’t go out on a full moon but you want to so badly.
A/N - I wrote this quickly and didn’t do a good proof read or anything.  Enjoy :)
It’s a bad idea, you know it is. You can hear your mother's voice in your head admonishing you for even thinking of going out tonight. You want so badly to go though. Your friends have been begging you for weeks to go out with them. They can’t understand why halloween is such a dangerous time for you, especially this year which lands on a full moon. They would look at you like you’re crazy if you told them werewolves existed at all let alone what would happen if one caught you. You’re not a wolf but you have one in you. One bite would turn you, changing your life forever. You’ve been able to hide from wolves your whole life by being careful. You usually smell human but some nights of the year your wolf's scent comes through. Your parents are both wolves but never forced you to change. They kept you safe, giving you a choice. Maybe you wouldn’t mind turning if you were an Alpha or a Beta. Even if you were caught and turned you would still have a life. As an Omega though your life would be destined for service. You would most likely be forced to give up everything. School, friends, a career, traveling. All gone the second a pack turns you.
You spray yourself heavily with perfume and walk into the living room you share with your college roommate Darcy.
“Woah Y/N, went pretty heavy with the perfume.” Darcy laughs.
You brush off the comment, changing the subject.
“I decided to come tonight. I might leave early though.”
Darcy jumps up and down with excitement. She runs to her room, grabbing a dress and a sheet and shoving them at you.
“What is this?”
“Your costume!”
You strip and put your dress on, holding the sheet up confused.
“It’s a cape.”
Your eyes get big with recognition. The sheet is red. A hidden wolf dressed as red riding hood. You tie it around you like a hooded cape and twirl around.
“Looks great, lets go.”
You giggle as you make your way towards the house party. You’re on full alert, looking around and keeping your nose open. You walk into the party and grab a drink, starting to relax and enjoy yourself. One of your favorite songs comes on and you start dancing with a class acquaintance, flirting with her a little. Something about the atmosphere makes you more outgoing and you feel yourself becoming lost in a haze of delight. After the dance you get another drink and stand next to Darcy, talking and laughing. A shiver runs through your spine suddenly and you look across the room meeting eyes with Steve Rogers.
“Shit.”
“What?”
Steve Rogers is a wolf, like a full fledged Alpha wolf. He’s tried to approach you several times and you’ve always avoided him. You’ve always been sure to keep distance from him days before full moons, going as far as to skip classes and lose out on points.
“I have to go.”
“Why?”
“I think I started my period.”
“Oh shit. Do you want me to come with you?”
“No, it’s ok I’m getting tired anyway.”
“Ok, I’ll check on you when I get back.”
You’re already half out the door back. You half run through the backyard jumping over a drunk guy laying in the grass and throw the gate open. You start speed walking home. Half way through your walk you exhale, slowing down. That was a close one. You reach your building, stopping dead in your tracks at the sight of Steve leaning against the side of the building.
“You’ve been bad Omega, hiding your wolf.”
“Get over yourself Steve. You’re not my ‘Alpha’ ” you take a step back.
“Little Omega denying who she is. You’ll learn. ”
“Get away from me.”
“You smell so good.”
“Please don’t do this Steve, I don’t want to turn. I just want to be a human and have a human life.”
“My wolf picked you.” he says, pushing himself away from the wall and taking a step toward you.
Your eyes widen. He doesn’t just want to turn you, he wants to mate you. You turn on your heel and start running, making it to the forest line. The sheet falls from your shoulders and flies back. Steve grabs hold of it behind you, smelling it and throwing it aside. There’s no getting away and you know it but you keep running anyway. You trip over a tree root and fall to the ground, twisting your ankle. You start crawling, tears falling down your cheeks and Steve walks up behind you grabbing your waist and flipping you around.
“Don’t do it Steve.” you cry.
“Mine.” Steve the junction between your neck and shoulder. You black out.
---
Fire, everything is on fire. Your fingertips all the way to your heart feel like they’re burning up. You open your eyes and only see white. It’s too painful to speak or move or even think. You’re not sure how long you’re in this state before the pain suddenly ends and you’re cognizant. You’re not human anymore. You look over and see a light brown wolf staring at you. It’s Your Alpha, your mind supplies you. No, not your mind. Your wolf. He stalks toward you, challenging you and you bare your neck out of instinct. He licks your neck and nods his head, motioning you to follow him, which you do. You run for almost an hour before arriving at a small village of homes. Steve shifts into a human and looks at you.
“The first time is hard, just focus on your human self and let it happen.”
You do as he asks, closing your eyes and focusing on who you are as a human. You feel the fire again as you shift back and suddenly find yourself naked and cold. A group of people and wolves start gathering around you, whispering among themselves. You recognize several of them from town.
“An Omega,” you hear them whisper to each other.
You take a few steps back and Steve pins you to your spot with a stare.
“She’s mine.” Steve says to the group. Steve holds his hand out for you to take and you muster up all your courage, going against your nature.
“No.”
The crowd lets out a unified gasp before going silent again. Steve walks toward you slowly.
“No?”
You gulp. “I won’t be yours or join your pack. I’m about to graduate school and have a life. I can still have one as a rogue wolf.”
“Kneel.” Steve's voice hits you like a sledgehammer and you immediately obey.
Steve makes it to you, circling around in slow even strides. When he reaches your front he crouches down, looking you in the eyes.
“I already marked you Y/N, you’re not going anywhere.” He says. You feel the place Steve bit you, knowing he’s telling the truth. He made sure to bite you somewhere visible, making the bite deep enough to scar. Any wolf who sees you will know you’re taken.
“Fuck you!” you shout, fighting what feels like 100lbs on your shoulders to stand back up and turn away from Steve. You start walking towards the forest. Every step is a fight and you only take three before you’re being picked up and carried over Steve's shoulder, a sharp, humiliating smack landing on your bottom. You start hitting Steve’s back but he doesn’t respond. He carries you to a house, bringing you up a flight of stairs and to a bed. He throws you on the bed and you scramble to your knees.
“You won’t speak to your Alpha that way.”
He climbs on top of you, his weight crushing your body. He grabs your hands and holds them above your head and you try to squirm but can’t move. He brings his nose to your neck, inhaling and licking both sides, his scent mixing with yours.
“I’ve been waiting so long to find my Omega, you have no idea.”
He leans in and kisses you, pushing his tongue into your mouth. He grabs your breast with his free hand, kneading. He lets go of your wrists, giving you a hard look that tells you not to try anything. He starts kissing and licking you working his way down your body and to your sex. He looks up at you and smirks before kissing your pussy. You whimper and he pulls away.
“You want to come, Omega?”
You shake your head no and he moves back, flipping you over and bringing his dick up to your entrance. He pushes in slowly, pulling at your hips so you stay in place. He starts thrusting harder and you let your front half relax. You can’t think of anything outside of the sensations. The sheets are luxurious and feel soft against your naked skin. beads of sweat forming on your forehead as your heat up. You listen to the slapping and grunting coming from Steve as he pounds into you. You forget where you are for a second and let out a moan which spurs Steve on and he gives a hard thrust, hitting your cervix. You let out a cry from the pain and he shushes you, slowing down again.
“I’m going to come.” He says, fingers digging bruises into your hips.
You feel him fill you up and he relaxes a bit before collapsing beside you. He puts a large arm around you, bringing you into a suffocating hug. You start crying and his chest rumbles, sending a calming feeling through you.
“None of that Doll.”
You stifle your cry and bury your head into his chest. You know you’ll never leave, he won’t let you. You won’t be going back to school or have a career. You doubt you’ll be allowed to go back to your apartment for your belongings or see any of your friends again. The idea of Steve owning you is terrifying. This huge stranger can do anything he wants to you now and you have no choice. Steve pulls a blanket over you and rubs small circles in your back until you relax, whispering praise into your ear. A tear runs down your cheek as you realize that you feel safe and happy with Steve. You’ve lost everything and don’t even care. So many terrifying things have happened tonight but this feeling of serenity is what scares you the most. You fucking love him. The monster that kidnapped you turning you into a werewolf and claiming you as his.
“I love you ‘Mega.”
“I love you too Alpha.”

Meant to Be (Charlie Weasley x OC)
What happens when Bill brings home a girl and Charlie is completely awestruck by her?
Dear reader,
what's the number one bro code? Never steal your brother's girl. Ever. Just don't do it. It's wrong!
But what if- No.
Just forget about it. It's too much work. And the drama that comes after. And then the whole family is involved. It's just not worth it. Leave it alone. Walk away. End of story.
But what if she is the most beautiful girl you have ever seen? And you have a lot in common? And you have a connection? Not the cheesy kind. The real kind. The one that everybody dreams about but never wants to admit it. What if you feel something you never did before and somehow, without knowing how, you know that she feels the same? What if she is everything you ever wanted? And is the first girl that you can see yourself having a future with?
What do you do then? Do you tell your brother?
Is it going to be easy? No. It's going to be hell but you ride through it anyway.
Love, Charlie
CHAPTER 1
Bill
“Bill.” I lifted my head, hearing my name. My boss was standing in the doorway, his expression telling me I will not like what he is about to say. I nodded my head, inviting him in.
“I am sorry to barge in on you like this and trust me if I could, I would ask anyone else, but…” He sighed and stopped avoiding my eyes. “This must get into the right hands and I trust you the most.” My eyes went from his to the pile in his hands.
“You want me to go to Gringotts and deliver these papers?” I smiled. It really wasn’t a big deal. I did it all the time and I had an excuse to see her.
“I know you’re supposed to go home tomorrow for the Christmas holidays and I always do this to you and…”
Derek was an amazing boss. He was strict and knew how to be harsh but deep inside he was the nicest person you can meet.
“Derek, it’s not a problem, really.” I reassured him. I could see relief in his expression. “I wanted to go there before I leave to the Burrow anyway.”
“You’re finally going to do it?” He smirked at me. I felt my cheeks turn pink and I sucked in a breath. I had to keep it together in front of him even though he was the only one who knew I had a thing for Rhylee.
“I’m just inviting her to spend the holidays with my family. Nothing big.” I lied.
“Oh, c’mon! Ask her out already!” Derek rolled his eyes. “I don’t have enough paperwork for you to apparate from Egypt to London once per week to see her.” He laughed.
“Ha-ha. Very funny. I’ll ask her once we get back.” I took the papers from his hands. “If she’ll say yes, of course.”
“You have been friends with her for almost 3 years and you fancy her for more than half of that, what’s with the stalling?” He crossed his arms on his chest.
“Give me a break, it’s complicated.” I sighed.
“That’s an excuse and you know it.” He tapped my shoulder and started towards the door. “Just do it before you get even deeper into the friendzone.” He said and walked out.
He was right. I was stalling and at this point, I didn’t even know why I was doing it.
I met Rhylee almost 3 years ago when I was bringing a treasure chest to Gringotts. Because it was really valuable, I had to take it all the way down to the most secured vault. That was the first time I saw a dragon. I heard a rumor that the Bank had them guarding the most secured vaults in the entire facility but I thought it wasn’t true.
I wasn’t as big on dragons as my brother Charlie, but even I thought it wasn’t fair to them. They were keeping them in the damp, dark corners of the cave systems. No sunlight, no freedom. And they were keeping them a secret. Only people who worked at Gringotts and a few others, Curse Breakers like me, knew about them.
I wasn’t careful when I approached the vault I had to store the chest in. They forgot to tell me that I was supposed to announce myself to one of the dragon tamers so that they would hold off the creature. The dragon launched at me, almost roasting me with its flames. It was Rhylee who saved me. I was lucky she was there to feed it.
She came out of nowhere and handled that dragon like it was nobody’s business and she still managed to look absolutely beautiful while doing so. She asked me if I was insane and what I was doing so deep down, her wand ready to duel me.
She thought I was trying to break into one of the vaults. I didn’t blame her. I was probably the only idiot who went so deep under the Bank without an escort. I explained my business and she started laughing when she realized that nobody told me about the procedure of getting to the high-security vaults.
After telling me that I can’t come down here unannounced, badge or no badge and that I always have to have one of the Dragonologists with me if I don’t want to be eaten, she accompanied me to the vault.
I encountered her a few more times after that and we always ended up chatting. Her determination and love for her job grew on me and I invited her for launch. We quickly became really good friends and I visited her every time I happened to be at the Bank.
My boss, Derek, accompanied me a few months ago when I was supposed to deliver another chest. I introduced him to Rhylee and he quickly caught on that I fancy her and I haven’t heard the end of it since.
Because we discovered a new tomb, there was a lot of paperwork that needed to be delivered to Gringotts lately. Derek, knowing that I would be able to see her and because he trusted me the most, gave the job to me almost every time. I went from visiting Diagon Alley a couple of times per month to a couple of times per week. I felt like a mailman but I didn’t mind. I could see and talk to Rhylee and I could have launch with her.
We became such good friends and I had trouble reading her that's why I was so hesitant to ask her out. I didn't want to ruin our friendship or make her uncomfortable but it was getting quite hard being just her friend. We are both single and at this point, I have nothing to lose.
She once told me that she is not that close with her family and wrote in one of her letters that she will probably work for Christmas. I think it's the perfect opportunity to finally ask her out.
I had everything planned out. I would visit her at her work before I leave for the Burrow. Or, since I have to go to Gringotts anyway when I take the papers I will visit her then. I will invite her to spend Christmas with me and my family. Even if I didn't fancy her, I wouldn't want a friend spending Christmas at work or alone. I will introduce her to my family and when we return I will ask her out before we part ways once we get back.
To say that I was nervous was an understatement. I had no idea what to expect. I don't know how she will react or what her answer will be. Rhylee puts animals above everything else. She loves her job more than anything and those two dragons in the vaults were more family to her than all her relatives combined.
She was very talkative but never told you more than you needed to know. I know all about her family and how annoyed she is that her co-workers don't care about the creatures as much as she does. I know she owns a Kneazle and lives with a roommate in a small apartment in London. She graduated from Beauxbatons Academy of Magic a year after I graduated from Hogwarts and she was sorted into Bellefeuille.
She never talked about any of her friends besides her roommate Lyla. I wouldn't even know she was single if I haven't met Lyla one day when Rhylee and I were having coffee in Diagon Alley and she teased her about one of her co-workers.
She didn't seem particularly interested in dating and never gave any signs that she might fancy me back.
That was probably the reason I was so hesitant to ask her out. I was afraid she would reject me, simply seeing me as a friend, and then it would get awkward between us. But as I said, my feelings for her are growing and I am willing to take the risk. If I can't gather up the courage to ask a girl out then I was sorted into the wrong house at school!
I took my jacket, grabbed the papers Derek left on my desk, and apparated to London. Firstly, I took the papers to the goblin, which probably found me suspicious that I was always there.
“What is this?” The goblin bowed his head, looking at the papers I laid in front of him.
“Mr. Boweman said these need to be filed right away.” I answered.
“And this is concerning?” The goblin continued, his eyes still on the pile.
“The new tomb in Luxor.” I dreaded talking to him. He always looked at me as if I was up to something and it was making me uncomfortable.
“Right.” He nodded. “Is there a reason he is always sending you?” He narrowed his eyes at me.
“He told me that he trusts me the most.” I swallowed hard. This was worse than when mum was mad.
“Isn’t he aware of the rule that the messenger should always be a different person?” He questioned.
I simply shook my head. I had no idea if Derek knew this or not but I made a mental note to mention it to him. I didn’t want him to get in trouble and I definitely didn’t want to be interrogated by a goblin again.
“I don’t know. I will make sure to ask him when I get back.” I said quietly.
“Very well.” The goblin sighed and swung his hand, indicating that I should leave.
I took a step backward before turning on my heel and leaving his office. I closed the door and leaned on the wall next to it. I waited for my breath to steady and for my heart to get back to normal. I don’t know why but I was always intimidated by goblins. I would rather spend a week in a tomb fighting mummies in the dark than repeat that conversation.
Since I was at the office section of Gringotts I decided to check if Rhylee was at her desk before I go looking for her down at the vaults.
I made my way across the corridor and one floor up. I stopped in front of Rhylee’s office and knocked on the door.
“Rhylee, you in there?” I checked my watch. A quarter to five. Of course, she wasn’t. It was feeding time. “Damn it.” I didn’t like going down there.
“Bill!” I turned around and saw Lizzie, one of Rhylee’s co-workers. “Are you looking for Rhylee?”
“Yes. She’s with the dragons, isn’t she?” I tried to smile.
“Yeah. She and the rest of the team are preparing for our new arrival.” She grinned.
“A new arrival?” I asked puzzled.
“Didn’t she tell you? We’re getting a new dragon after the holidays.” I wish I could look as excited as she sounded.
“Another thing to fear when I take the treasure down.” I sighed.
“Don’t worry, we’ll protect you.” Lizzie chuckled and tapped my shoulder. “Come on, I’ll take you to her.”
We made our way down to the vaults and I was relieved that we didn’t encounter either of the dragons. It was a rare occasion and when I brought chests down here, I was always happy when it was feeding time. It was the only time I didn’t fear for my life. Once you get attacked by the biggest species of dragons, you don’t get over your fear so easily.
“Rhylee, Bill’s here to see you.” Lizzie shouted when we came to her group and took over for her.
“Bill! I thought you were supposed to travel home today.” She beamed at me. Her smile was priceless and I couldn’t stop my lips from spreading into one too.
“Paperwork, what can you do.” I shrugged my shoulders.
“Derek can’t let you go, huh.” She chuckled. “Want to feed Kyan?” Her question sent shivers down my spine.
Kyan was the Ukranian Ironbelly that almost turned me into dinner the day I’ve met Rhylee. She always did this to me if I came to see her during feeding time. She acted like the dragons weren’t one of the most dangerous creatures on the planet and wanted to help me get over my fear.
“No, thank you.” My voice barely audible, my eyes on the dragon.
“So what are you going to do for the holidays?” I decided to change the topic.
“As I wrote to you, I’ll be working.” Her eyes turning from me to Kyan.
“Why don’t you come with me?” I was proud of myself for how confident I sounded.
“What?” Rhylee looked back at me.
“I’m inviting you to spend Christmas with my family.” My heart started beating faster.
I hated that I couldn’t read her expression at all. This is why I didn’t ask her out yet. I could never figure out what was happening inside her head.
“Oh, Bill.” A smile spread over her lips.
That was a good sign, right?
“That is so kind of you.” She looked back at the dragon. “But I can’t. Lizzie is taking time off and she is the only one I really trust around here. You know that.” She whispered, careful not to be overheard.
“Come on. When was the last time you had a day off?” I tried convincing her.
I liked the confidence boost I got all of a sudden.
“True.” She sighed and bit her lip, thinking. “But I don’t know how long it will take to prepare everything today. We are getting a new dragon.” She jumped, clapping her hands.
“I heard. Lizzie told me.” I smiled.
Seeing her so excited fluttered the butterflies in my stomach.
“I am sorry that I have to turn you down, Bill.” She shook her head after a moment of silence. “I would love to meet your family but it’s really a bad time.”
I tried hiding the disappointment for which I was sure could be seen on my face. This was not what I’ve planned. I didn’t know they were getting a new dragon and I didn’t know Lizzie wouldn’t be here during the holidays. I was sure she would say yes and now I was without a plan.
“Listen.” Rhylee’s hand around my lower arm snapped me out of my thoughts as I was thinking of anything that could convince her to come with me. “Let me see how things go today. Perhaps I can take a few days off if we finish preparing everything. Merlin knows I could use some free time.” She said softly.
That made my day. There was still hope!
“Okay. I’m leaving tomorrow after work. Owl me?” I smiled and she nodded.
I told her that I will go back myself. I didn’t want to disturb her work and the sooner she gets back to it, the sooner they can finish. I apparated back to Egypt and entered my tent. I didn’t even have the time to take off my shoes when Derek entered.
“So, how did it go?” A smirk on his face.
“She’ll owl me tomorrow. They are getting a new dragon, so I don’t think she’ll be able to get time off.” I didn’t want to get my hopes up.
It was better to think that she will have to decline my offer.
“A bunch of rubbish.” Derek scoffed. “Why does she even have a team if she has to do everything on her own?”
“The only person she really trusts is visiting family for the holidays.” I answered.
“Then she needs a better team.” Derek said.
I don’t think that would help. Rhylee cared for those dragons more than I have seen anyone care for any animal. They were like her children and there was nobody good enough to trust them with except Lizzie. It was a miracle she even let her in charge from time to time.
“The goblins are getting suspicious.” I changed the subject.
I really didn’t want to talk about Rhylee anymore. It was enough that nothing went according to my plan.
“What about?” Derek frowned.
“Apparently, there is a rule that the paperwork needs to be delivered by a different person every time.” I raised my eyebrows.
“They’re joking!” He laughed. He disliked the goblins as much as I did. “I’ll send my grandmother next time, will that be better?” We both laughed.
The next morning I woke up to fluttering.
“What the…” I opened my eyes and saw an owl staring at me, its head tilted, with a letter in its beak.
“Thank you.” I said sleepily and gently took the envelope. I got up and reached for owl food on the top shelf in my kitchen. “Here you go. For your journey back.” I smiled.
I wish all creatures would be as lovely as owls.
I looked at the letter that I left on my bed and took a deep breath. I knew it was from Rhylee and I wasn’t sure I was ready to read the answer. I wanted to tell her how I feel. I was ready.
I wanted to do it after the holidays and yesterday when I couldn’t sleep I made up my mind that even if she would say no to going with me I would tell her when I get back. I had to at this point. I never had such problems with girls, not that I had many but I never hesitated so much to ask a girl out.
There was just something about Rhylee that made her stand out from all the rest. It wasn’t just that she was the most beautiful girl I have ever seen. It was the way she laughed. She never did if she didn’t find something funny. She never faked it.
It was the way she spoke about animals. With sparks in her eyes. It was how she made you belong and how honest she was no matter what you asked her. It was her positivity. She always made me feel like everything was going to be alright no matter what problems I had.
If there was anyone I saw spending the rest of my life with it was her.
I sighed and opened the envelope. “Come on, Bill. Don’t be such a coward.” I said to myself and spread open her letter.
Dear Bill,
I couldn’t stop thinking about your invitation yesterday. I don’t care much for the holidays but even I can’t deny that Christmas at the Burrow, your home about which you told me so much about, sounds so enticing.
We managed to prepare most of the things for our new arrival and I hope I didn’t make a mistake trusting Erica and Simon with Dash and Kyan. I told them that if anything happens to my babies I will do much worse to them than just fire them!
So I guess I am saying yes to your invitation. I hope this letter gets to you before you leave. Apparate to my apartment before you go home so we can go together, if your invitation still stands, of course.
Love, Rhylee
PS. I might bring some paperwork with me. I have to fill out about 20 forms for the Norwegian Ridgeback we are getting. I might get a few days off but unfortunately, I can’t avoid that! But you’re right. I do need some time off. I would probably work 365 days a year if it wasn’t for you.
I couldn’t believe it. I looked up from the letter, my mouth open. I started reading it again just in case I missed her saying no. She said yes! She’s coming with me. We’re spending the holidays together!
This means so much more than just her going to meet my family. Even though she was quite a private person, I knew I was one of her closest friends and I knew how hard it had to be for her to leave her work and leave the dragons with her team.
They were good at their job but they didn’t care as much as she did. They did what had to be done and left the second they could. She never did that. She always stayed. Always checked everything twice, three times even. She always made sure everything was okay before she went home. Made sure the dragons were as comfortable as they could be down there.
This was a big deal, leaving them behind. Leaving them with Erica and Simon, to not only take some time off, but to spend that time with me and my family. She could’ve easily stayed behind and said that she couldn’t leave the dragons alone. But she did it for me and she was excited to meet my family.
I had to sit down, my heart was beating so fast as I read the letter for what seemed like the fourth time. I sucked in a breath and exhaled slowly. I must keep it together.
I was now completely awake and I finally stopped thinking about her. A thought came to mind as if I was forgetting something. What was I forgetting? Was there something I had to do?
PACK!
I didn’t pack yet! I was so tired yesterday as I got late from work and I was going on and on in my head what would I do if Rhylee said no to my invitation that I completely forgot. I finally put the letter down, grabbed my wand, and started levitating clothes from my closet to my bag.
“So?” Derek barged into my tent as if he was living here. “I saw an owl flying out of your tent. What’s her answer?”
“She’s coming with me.” I buried my head into my sock drawer, pretending to look for something so that I could hide my red cheeks.
“I knew it!” He jumped. “I knew she fancied you back!”
“Slow down!” I laughed. “She only said yes to spending Christmas with me, I didn’t ask her out yet.”
“Right.” Derek said slowly. “Spending the most family-like holiday with you and your family in your cozy and loving home, as if you even need to ask her.” He winked at me.
I rolled my eyes at him. He might be right but I didn’t want to get my hopes up. She could still just see me as a friend and just want to escape her work for a few days. This didn’t mean anything.
“Can you get out so I can pack? You’re worse than my mum!” I narrowed my eyes at him, my hands on my hips.
“I can’t be. I love your mum but she can be scary.” Derek took a step back.
He met my family twice and seen my parents a few times when they visited me. He was my boss and I respected him. He was one of the best Curse Breakers I have ever met and I was humbled that he was my friend.
But it was the funniest thing ever to see him afraid of my mum. Not only did I tell him stories of her rage when my siblings and I were younger but he experienced it first-hand when he visited the Burrow with me last Summer and my mum lost it when Fred and George set an entire box of fireworks loose in the bathroom while she was in the shower.
“Stop nagging me and let me pack in peace!” I tried imitating my mum but I don’t think there was a person in the world who could do an impersonation of her.
“Alright, alright!” He laughed. “Say hi to Rhylee for me, will you!” He hurried out of the tent before I could throw a pair of socks at him.
I regret ever admitting to him I had a thing for her.
Now, where was I?
Packing, right!

The hot water cascaded down his sculpted body. He groaned as he ran his hands through his luscious chocolate locks. He lathered his shoulders as thoughts of her ran through his mind. He was captivated by her. She seemed to consume his every waking moment. Liam had crossed the line yet again. Every time it seemed his transgressions got more and more out of hand. He refused to allow his friend’s actions to ruin his final couple of days in the states.
Bastien had taken over the King’s detail while they were in Waxahachie for Savannah’s wedding. For the next 48 hours, Liam was not his charge, he was his friend. His thoughts went back to her. She represented hope, possibility, promise. He had no idea what was to come, but he knew that it would be an exciting adventure if she was at his side.
As he pulled his white henley tee shirt over his head, his mind went back to the conversation he had at the reception with his cousin Tyler, who was a cyber-security analyst with the Department of Homeland security. Drake explained to Tyler that he would no longer be sitting with him and the rest of the bridal party because the girl who he had been telling Tyler about who works in advertising, who he met in New York was there, and he intended to spend as much time with her as he could. She was something special. She could be the one. “So you invited her to Sav’s wedding?” he inquired.
“No, actually she is the friend of Sav’s college roommate, Mackenzie, and came as her plus one. I had no idea she would be here.”
 “Sounds like fate.”
“What are you saying?”
“I’m saying that of all the places in the world this one person could be, she is here at your sister’s wedding... in Waxahachie, TX. If this girl is the one, you’re screwed. You might as well spruce up your resume. She’s a career woman. She is not going to move to Cordonia for you, and you suck at long-distance relationships. I can probably get you in at my job. My guy Rob in HR owes me a favor.”
“I’ll keep that in mind if I ever get the courage to ask her out,” he told Tyler.
The truth was, he could easily see a future with Riley. She’s beautiful, honest, smart, quick-witted, and kind. His cousin’s words bounced around in his head as he pulled on his favorite distressed jeans giving himself a quick once over in the full-length mirror in the room his Mom had decorated for him at the ranch after she returned to the states when his dad passed.
He opened his laptop and took a look around the room. The Walker Ranch had been in his father’s family for several generations being passed down to the eldest male child, like each generation before. Drake stayed in Cordonia after his father died and was handsomely compensated by the crown. His college education was covered, and he and his sister received a stipend each month. Drake was always taught to do a lot with little and to save the rest. For years he lived at the palace and saved every penny. Being friends with Liam, he learned how to invest wisely and he did pretty well in the stock market. His newest pastime had been real estate investment. He had been buying foreclosed homes in and around Dallas and having his Mom’s brothers and his cousins fix them up before selling them for a generous profit.
He was curious, he was now the rightful owner of the Walker Ranch. It had struggled in the past, but because of his business plans and wise investment, the family business was as strong as it had ever been and his mom was nearing retirement age. What if he and Riley did end up together? He knew the plan was for his cousin Miranda to replace his mom when she was ready, while he retained ownership, but where would that leave him? He pulled up the DHS website and clicked on the careers tab. He was reading a description of a position that he believed he would qualify for, Intelligence Analyst.
Just then Liam plowed through his door without warning.
“Li! What the fuck man?” he shouted as he closed his laptop abruptly.
Tumblr media
“My apologies, I hope I'm not interrupting.  I just wanted to apologize if I offended you. You were right, any woman can be a lot. Carsyn is not speaking to me, she thinks I'm interested in Riley.”
“You are interested in Riley. She's just not interested in you and it's killing you. Let me ask you something, why is it so hard for you to grasp that a smart beautiful woman would be interested in me over you?”
“It’s just.. It’s not that. I'm not accustomed to rejection. It intensifies my want for her.”
“ I hate to cut our conversation short but I have to head out. I’ve got a few stops to make before I pick up Riley.”
“Then I shall take my leave. Enjoy! Smart man, planning a date when it’s going to storm. I’m sure you won’t have a problem closing tonight,” he said as he left the room.
The evening came and Drake drove along the winding Country Road towards the city. He tapped his thumb against the steering wheel to the beat of Chris Stapleton’s, “Starting Over.”
Tumblr media
Then he switched from Prime country to the Heart and Soul station on his XM Radio. If he was going to have her in his life it meant embracing all aspects of it. He knew that music was a big thing for her and although she would listen to a little bit of everything she loved R&B and Jazz.  A song by Luther Vandross came on and to his surprise, it was not very different from the country music he listened to all the time. The chorus was catchy and very fitting.
“Excuse me Miss, what's your name? Where are you from, and can I come? And possibly, can I take you out tonight?”
He found himself humming the tune as he stepped into the local Nursery to pick up a houseplant to go along with the Pinot Grigio he bought as a gift for Riley.  He decided on a Prayer Plant.
Tumblr media
It was relatively low maintenance and he thought it would be entertaining to watch it curl up in darkness. He didn't want to do the same flowers and candy that everyone does. He wanted to take her something that she would keep for a while, and possibly would make her think of him when she saw it.  As much as he didn't want to admit it the thought of her dating someone else while he was back in Cordonia was driving him insane.
Tumblr media
He was nervous and he couldn't figure out why. They were just going to hear some live music.  But he wanted to impress her so badly. He knew that it was more likely that he would end up putting his foot in his mouth but with her, for some reason, it did not matter. When he pulled up in front of her place he put on ChapStick, and reached into his glove box, sprayed on some Chrome, and checked his breath before quickly gathering the gifts for her and heading toward the door. He tucked the house plant under his arm as he smoothed over his clothes as the elevator took him to her floor.  A small lump formed in his throat as he approached her door.
She opened the door and his breath caught in his throat as he took in her appearance. She was dressed in a denim outfit with matching stiletto boots and oddly enough, the denim matched his jeans. It would almost appear planned. He was secretly thrilled. She smiled at him and he was sure he forgot his own name for a few seconds. She stretched up on her toes and kissed him sweetly on the cheek.
“Hey Drake, you smell delicious.”
“Hey. Thanks. These are for you.”
Tumblr media
“Aww, you brought me a houseplant and wine? I’m not worthy, but I love it. Thank you. Come in! I promise I’m almost ready.”
She sat the plant on the counter and placed the wine in her wine fridge.
“You look greeeeat,” she squealed.
“Thanks. So do you.”
“So how’d you know what kind of wine I like?” she asked as she finished her eye makeup in the mirror.
“Observant, I guess. I saw a bottle in the trash when I was here yesterday.”
“I’ll keep that in mind. Are you ready?”
He stood moving to open the door for her. “After you.” They made it downstairs as a couple of her neighbors made it home from what he only assumed was church. He couldn’t figure out if the staring was due to her outfit or if it was because she was with him. He looked at her in awe as she strutted with confidence to his car.
Tumblr media
He opened the door for her and she smiled before thanking him.
He could feel his heart pounding in his chest. She was rattling on and on about the artist performing in the festival and he was secretly praying she wouldn’t ask him a question that required an intelligent answer. She kept touching his biceps and his hand. Her hands were so soft and he was sooo turned on. He hoped that she didn’t notice the bulge in his pants and think that he was a creep. He wondered if she kept touching him because she was nervous too?
“Um, Ri? You good?”
“Yeah, why?”
“You are extremely chatty and you keep touching me.”
“I’m excited. I’ll try to keep my hands to myself, but the way this henley hugs your arms,” she wiggled her eyebrows.
He let out a low chuckle as he quickly glanced at her for the seventh time.
“Are you ok?”
“Yeah, never better. Why?”
“You keep looking at me.”
He grinned keeping his eyes on the road. They were nearing the venue when she glanced at his pants. He immediately assumed that she spotted his retreating erection.
“What?”
“We’re matching you know. People are going to think we did this purposely.”
“Do you care what others think?”
“No, I suppose not.”
“Good because we’re here.”
They parked and he asked her to stay put for a moment. He got out of the truck and grabbed a blanket and wicker picnic basket. He walked around the truck and opened the door for her and she blushed furiously as she stepped out.
They made their way to a free spot among the crowd. Riley noticed a few glares from both men and women, who obviously had an issue with she and Drake being there together. Then she smiled as one woman gave her a smile, wink and thumbs up as she stood to the side watching while Drake spread the blanket and invited Riley to sit. She knew that some people would have opinions of them being an interracial couple, but Drake didn’t seem bothered. In fact, she thought it showed how courageous he was. When another woman mouthed, “That’s a good look!”
She bit the inside of her cheek trying not to smile. The truth was she didn’t need any validation. She knew Drake was a catch. The fact that he was easy on the eyes was a bonus.
Tumblr media
“What’s in the basket?”
“Uh, a little something my mom helped me with.”
He opened the basket and pulled out wine glasses, a bottle of her favorite Pinot Grigio, cheese, cashews, summer sausage, deli turkey, sliced cucumbers, grapes, strawberries, whipped cream and 2 brownies. The opening act took the stage and Drake pulled Riley close.
“I hope you’re hungry.”
“I am,” she said coyly as she settled between his legs.
They cuddled for a bit before eating, until one of the performers played a rendition of The Gap Band’s, “Outstanding.” She jumped up and pulled Drake with her. He wrapped his arms around her from behind and swayed back and forth with Riley. She felt so comfortable in his arms, he actually had rhythm. There went another stereotype out the window, it just felt right.
Tumblr media
After several acts had gone on and several glasses of wine later Riley settled in his lap as a performer started to play a slower song. “I love Luther,” Riley squealed as she began to sing along.
Knowing love the way I do
I can say for certain that it's true
There's a chance for me and you.
I surely feel like the time is near
The picture in my mind is very clear
I think love has brought us here
I remember not too long ago
I was just a lonely person
With a lonely heart, yeah
And I was hoping there could one day be,
Be a chance
For me to get the love
That I'd been missing
Sometimes love takes a long time
Wait for love
And you're gonna get the chance to love
Wait for love, wait for love oh, my
When you take the chance on love you'll see
It's not a waste of time if you truly believe
The impossible can be..
So hold on tight if you think you're right
Cause nothing hurts as bad as when you see
You gave up too easily
Now I remember spending all my time
On a dream that kept me wishing that you could be mine, yeah
And I was hoping there could one day be, be a chance, whoa
I never stopped believing there could one day be, be a chance
For me to get the love that I'd been missing
Sometimes love takes a long time
Wait for love, and you're going to get your
Chance to love
Wait for love, wait for love
And you'll get the love that you've been missing
Sometimes love takes a long time
But wait for love
And you're going to get your chance to love.
Drake couldn’t help but hang on to her every word. He wondered if she was trying to send him a message through the lyrics. She had a voice like an angel and when the song ended he was breathless.
“Ms. Riley sings too?”
She giggled as she rested her head on Drake's shoulder, her back to his strong chest. He fed her  grapes then strawberries with whipped cream soliciting jealous glances from some nearby onlookers. She made sure to let her lips and tongue graze his fingers.  For a few blissful moments, they both silently enjoyed the closeness.
“You know, this is pretty cool,” he whispered in her ear.
She smiled as his breath tickled her ear. Feeling the effects of the wine, she paused for a few moments before she responded.
“What’s that?”
“This. Us. The festival. It all just feels right.”
She wordlessly looked up at him. She wondered if she could will him to kiss her with her “come get it eyes.”  Suddenly, a torrential downpour covered the venue, leaving Drake and Riley scrambling to gather the blanket and basket before sprinting to his Jeep. Before they could get there he stopped snaking his arm around her pulling her close.
Tumblr media
This was it, he was going to do it, it was now or never. If she was the onehe wanted to look back at their first date and tell a romantic tale of their first kiss in the rain. Now was the time. He leaned in and when she opened her eyes her lips found his instantly. It was everything she expected and more. It was hungry and passionate and lustful and it made her lady parts twitch. When he pulled away he watched her for signs of regret, but her eyes said she wanted more.
“Hurry, get in,” Drake urged her as he took the time to throw the basket and blanket in the back.
They were both soaked. She laughed hysterically when he finally got inside.
“This entertains you, does it?”
She nodded as she continued laughing, her eyes were clenched tightly.
He went back in taking her lips again as it continued to storm all around them. Her hands roamed his body and her eyes went wide when she made contact with the bulge in his pants. Another stereotype out the window…Drake cupped the back of her dripping head with his left hand deepening the kiss while his right hand explored the soft skin of her thigh as a soft moan escaped her. Suddenly his phone rang, “Mama’s Song” by Carrie Underwood blasted from his pocket startling Riley. Drake huffed and looked at her with apologetic eyes before answering.
“Mom? What’s up?”
“I’m so sorry for interrupting your date Drizzy.”
Riley smiled.
“Mom, what’s wrong?”
“The power is out and the generator didn’t kick in. I gave Larry the weekend off..”
“I’ll be there as soon as I get Riley home safely. Sit tight.”
“Thanks Driz. How’d it go? Did you kiss her?”
“Mom! She can hear you.”
“Hi, Mrs.Walker.” Riley chimed in.
“Hi, sweetheart. Did he kiss you?”
Riley laughed again.
“Bye Mom!”
Drake ended the call and turned to Riley, cheeks flushed red.
“I’m sorry.”
“For what?” She asked as he pulled out of the parking lot.
“For the way, tonight is ending. For my Mom.”
“Nothing could ruin today. Not even your Mom Drizzy,” she laughed again.
‘Geez, Ri that was below the belt.”
His comment made her think about his bulge and she began to blush.
“Are you blushing?”
“Maybe.”
“Why?”
“Oh, it’s too embarrassing to share.”
“Now you know I won’t stop until you tell me.”
When they pull into her neighborhood the entire area is pitch black. Her building was also dark.
Tumblr media
“Good thing I have candles.”
“Or you could go back to the ranch with me,” he said shyly.
“Really? I don’t want to put anyone out.”
“It’s just Mom and I. Liam and Carsyn should be out for the evening. Besides, I promised you dinner and it’s Sunday, I bet my mom cooked.”
“I can’t meet your Mom looking like this. I’ll be ok.”
“Riley, I’m not leaving you alone in the dark.”
“If you want to spend more time with me just say that.”
“Fine, I want to spend more time with you and I’m not leaving you alone in the dark. My Mom would kill me. Pleaaase! I can get you one of Sav’s outfits. I promise it will be an adventure.”
“Okay, I’ll go. But only because you’re so cute when you beg.”
He bit his lip. “You haven’t seen anything yet.”
“Drake Arrington Walker!” she warned.
“Too much?” He smiled.
When they arrived at the ranch, Drake showed Riley to his room and gave her towels and a change of clothes while he went to help with the generator. She quickly showered, pulled her hair up into a messy bun and moisturized with his Nivea lotion that she found on the counter she walked back into his bedroom pulling on the leggings she borrowed. She was still bare from the waist up when the door opened. Her back was turned when she looked over her shoulder to reprimand him.
Tumblr media
“Drake!”
“Riley, it’s me, Liam.”
Riley screamed as she scrambled to cover herself.
“Get out!”
“My mistake. I thought Drake was in here. But this, you are much better.”
“Get. Out.”
“Come on, what’s a little fun between friends?” he asked as he closed the door.
Before she could answer Drake barreled into the room, his fist connected with Liam’s jaw before he tackled him.
“Have fun with me you bastard, I told you to leave her the fuck alone,” he yelled as Bastien pulled Drake off of Liam. Riley watched the entire scene in horror from the corner.
“Get the fuck out Li!”
After Bastien escorted Liam back to the guest house, Drake checked on Riley.
“Are you hurt? He didn’t touch you did he?”
“No, I’m more embarrassed than anything. He walked in without knocking while I was changing.”
“Well, you don’t have to worry about him.”
“What in tarnation is all that racket back here?” Bianca asked as she turned the corner.
“Just Li being a creep. Everything is fine Mom.”
Riley stood when Bianca entered the room.
“Riley, this is my Mom, Bianca. Mom, this is my Riley.”
His eyes went wide as soon as the words left his mouth. He grimaced as Riley extended her hand to his Mom. Bianca pulled Riley into her embrace instead.
“It’s nice to meet the girl who makes Driz nervous.”
“Mom!”
Riley laughed.
Come on darling, I know y’all were supposed to get dinner. It’s Sunday so I cooked some pot roast, mashed potatoes, carrots, and green beans and for dessert, banana pudding funnel cakes.
Tumblr media
“Oh my God, Mrs. Walker, that sounds amazing. Drake, you were holding out on me.”
“Not, really. Maybe I wanted to cook for you first.”

---------------
The ear-bleeding music seemed to slowly die down as the pounding of my heart replaced its significant impact. My brain was trying to differentiate what my eyes were capturing and what I was feeling. Although, I seemed to be doing a terrible job.
Randall Carpio was lip-locked with some girl I had never seen before that day. He was. . . I didn't know what he was at that moment. I didn't consider him a boyfriend since we never had the appropriate conversation about it. Yet, he was more than a friend, since we had kissed a couple of times. Granted, the goal was to divert needy girls from sitting in his face. But, my heart was the warmest when we shared such intimate moments. How our tongues tangled long after the intended audience had left and we were always one minute away from racing to a secluded area. Desperately wanting to release the sexual tension that had been within us since we had met last semester.
I guess I was the only one to feel those things.
I released the breath that I had been holding and turned my back to the scene. I placed the red solo cups on the porch of the rundown home and walked away from the bustling party. I tried my best to conceal the tears welling up in my eyes and the tightness in my throat. I held myself together all the way until I  reached my apartment.
The shock on my roommate's face was unexplainable as I crumbled into her arms and soiled her satin shirt with my teary mascara.
I saw his face the very next day, at the student center. He was signing some form, probably for a missing key. Since Randall was a RA, he had to fill out at least 6 of those forms every Saturday morning. Looking out for freshmen was a tough job, but he did it with no complaints. I walked past him and cranked up the volume of my phone. I could feel his eyes on me, but I chose to ignore it. If he hadn’t been signing those forms, I knew he would’ve followed me. Or chased me down.
I walked to the makeshift computer station and tapped my ID on the printer's mount. The device made a loud 'beep' before spitting out several sheets of paper. I gathered the warm items into a pile and stapled them together. Instead of walking out the way I came in, I decided to go deeper into the building and take the back exit. It happened to be further away from the library, where my study group was waiting. But an extra minute of walking wouldn't hurt as much as facing him again.
I proceed to avoid Randall for the upcoming weeks. I dove myself into my studies, spending all my extra time getting ahead on classwork. And, when I got bored with that, I upped my crocheting skills. The temperature was rumored to drop to a cool fifty degrees next week and I didn't have a scarf. Less than seventy-two hours later, I had finished my scarf and began working on my hat.
Janet, my roommate, had gotten worried that I turned into a grandma. So, she bribed me into leaving the apartment.
"Come with me to this club meeting and I'll buy you dinner," she said as she plopped onto my bed.
I stopped in mid-row and looked over at her. "You're only doing this because you don't want to go alone."
"Maybe," she huffed. "But, we'd both be happy when the night is over. You'll get your precious tacos and I'll join a new club."
I rolled my eyes. I finished my row and set my unfinished project on my desk. "Let's go before I change my mind."
The air in the auditorium was alive and thriving. It wrapped around my body like a chilled hug and I never felt so calm. I took my time walking down the aisle to the main stage, absorbing the positive energy all around me. The spotlight was aimed towards the middle of the stage, where the group was huddled. Instruments lie, abandoned, near the back of the stage. Along with mic stands and sheets of music on the floor. One group member picks up a sheet of paper from the edge of the stage and locks eyes with me. He stands up straight and looks up at me.
“I know you!” He shouts toward me.
I looked behind me and saw that there was no one there. “Me? Where do you know me from?”
“We partied together a couple of times,” he said I walked up the side steps of the stage. He paused a second to process the memories and wait for me to close the distance between us. A blush flashed against his face and scratched the side of his neck. “I tried to hit on you a few times, but you were always with that Randall guy.”
Hearing his name still made my heart stop. I tried to push my emotions back into their cave as I mustered the courage to speak again. “I—” My voice cracked with just one letter so I just bit my lip and shrugged.
The familiar stranger seemed to have understood my silence and just carried on the conversation. “Well, I’m glad you could make it! We are kind of desperate for new members.”
I cleared my throat and looked down at the ground. “What’s this club about?”
“We’re like a glee club of sorts. We sing songs that describe the overall feel of the weeks prior,” he replied in an assertive tone. “Interestingly, we have been singing a lot of breakup songs lately. We actually reconsidered to rename the club ‘The Lonely Hearts Club’.”
I looked over at Janet and she gave me a sheepish grin.
Before I could even call out to her, a new voice emerged from within the other bustling ones.
“Okay, everyone! I am excited to announce that we have new members!” The voice cheered with pure joy, which radiated throughout the room. The owner of the voice, a young woman, walked over to me and smiled. “It’s a tradition for the new recruits to ‘audition’ to become official club members. You can either sing a duet—” she looked over at Janet. “Or a solo”, then back at me. “Whichever you feel is comfortable.”
“I think a duet—” I tried to say before being cut off.
“We’re gonna do solos,” Janet interjected. I threw her a harsh look, which she had completely ignored and continued on with her statement. “I have been wanting to play my version of ‘Toxic’ by Britney Spears for the longest time.”
“Great! We’ll get the stage set up, and you’ll be ready to go, yes?” The leader said with a hasty head nod. She looked back at me. “While she’s performing, try to figure out if you’ll be singing acapella or acoustic. We have tons of songs from our prior setlists if you want the band to back you.”
The familiar stranger placed a binder into my hands and I almost doubled over by the sheer heft of the object. I departed from the stage and sat in the front row. I flipped through the pages, I saw various pop anthems and R&B baby-makers in the front collection. The further I went into the binder, the more breakup songs I encountered. The majority of them are Beyonce and Taylor Swift. A few from H.E.R and Bryson Tiller. I knew a few songs in their possession but none of them really hit home. Until I reached the last page.
Jhene Aiko’s Triggered.
I had that song on repeat the very first week I started to avoid. . . him. Maybe it was an exaggeration of my feelings but it sure felt right. It captured the anger, the pain, and the longing so perfectly. Plus it wasn’t too much singing. I knew I wasn’t a Whitney Houston, but I could hold a note and remain in key.
I looked closer at the lyrics and sheet music behind me. A voice inside of me wanted to do this without a band. I needed to do this alone. I had to rid myself of the feelings that kept gnawing on my insides, begging to escape.
Janet killed it, per usual. She captivated her audience with her somber tone and gentle approach. A roar of applause flooded the auditorium. Almost making it hard to top that. I handed the binder back to the familiar stranger, Justin, and climbed on the stage. I looked down at all of the glee folk and gave a sheepish smile.
“I will be singing Triggered by Jhene Aiko,” I said, mustering up all the confidence in my being.
“Will you be using the band?” the club leader, Marie, asked.
“No, I would like to sing it acapella,” I replied with a shake of my head. “It’s something I need to get off of my chest.”
“Ooh! I am excited! Go for it!” She cheered before taking a seat in the audience.
I turned my back to the group and took a deep breath. I decided to leave the microphone on the stand just to allow the hollowed-out space project my voice for me. I took a step and just opened my mouth.
“Go figure, you were the trigger,” I sang with the side of my being facing the crowd. “You brought me an obstructed view when you knew the picture was bigger”.
The chitter-chatter among the group dropped and all eyes were on me.
I took another breath and carried on. “Who am I kidding, I knew from the beginning,” I paused. An image of Randall flashed in my mind and I could feel the emotions bubble up. I clenched my fists and shook my head. “I’m sorry. I just—.”
“Unleash it,” Marie yelled from the crowd. “The pain you’ve been holding. You don’t need to pretend anymore. This is a safe space.”
The crowd yelled reassuring testaments from below and it made me chuckle.
“So, cry if you need to! We saw it all,” Justin added in. “And we all have felt exactly what you are feeling at this moment.”
The exchange made me feel comfortable and highlighted that we were all humans at the end of the day. No matter how hard we judge, we all will be or have been in a position that makes us feel so small. So insignificant. It was only human for us to feel.
I nodded. “I’m going to start again.”
I closed my eyes and allowed the words to spill from my lips.
Go figure, you were the trigger.
You brought me to
An obstructed view
When you knew the picture was bigger
I opened my eyes and gave a humorless laugh.
Who am I kidding?
Knew from the beginning.
I saw him kissing her; as if I were experiencing it all over again and all I could feel was anger.
You’d ruin everything
You do it every time.
You are my enemy,
You are no friend of mine.
Muhfucker...
I paused and ran my hands through my hair. I clasped my hand together to make a loud clap before pointing to an empty space on the stage. As if he was there with me.
You muhfucking right
You muhfucking right I’m triggered
You muhfucking right I’m bitter
You muhfucking right I...
I stopped in midpoint and gave a weak smile.
Wanna fuck you right now
The crowd “oohed” in the audience from the statement and gave me a few claps.
He heard her voice before he even entered the building. While jogging across the quad that night. It had been weeks since they had last spoken and he wished he knew the reason behind it. Every time he called, it went straight to voicemail. His texts never went through, and when they did, they were left with some written automated message. Randall had debated whether to stop by her dorm and question her about the sudden disappearance, but he respected her space. But, hearing her voice for the first time in a long time had done things to him. It made him reminisce about the old times they had back at the packhouse with the other wolves. The times where they’d sleep in his bed after a night of partying; limbs drunkenly tangled together and his head on her chest. Randall loved laying his head on her breasts. They were always so soft and inviting and smelled of flowers.
Like a sailor lost at sea, he followed the sweet melodies of Y/N’s eerily beautiful voice. The young man made his way to the auditorium before he had a chance to turn back. And he was thankful he hadn’t. She was like a siren in a pool of auburn water. The spotlight made it seem as though she was glowing. Highlighting the parts of her he found most gorgeous. Randall had taken so much time just staring at her that he shocked at the amount of sadness the lyrics offered.
Tryna let the time go by
Tryna let the time heal all
Tryna let the time kill all
Of our memories
All you meant to me
All that history
All that's history
I'll calm down eventually
Why was she singing such a sad song? Who was this song dedicated to? He pondered the possibilities of anyone that could perhaps make her feel this heartbroken. Was Y/N going through a break-up? Who’s ass did he need to beat?
I'm triggered when I see your face
Triggered, when I hear your name
Triggered, I am not okay (yeah)
You need to stay out of my way
Suddenly the singing stopped and a sole tear rolled down her face. Y/N wiped it away and mumbled the last lyric about three more times before the audience rose from their seats and clapped. Multiple peopled raced to the stage and gave her a warm embrace and Randall watched as the tears continue to flood her face.
“I should kick Randall’s ass for making you feel that way,” a familiar voice—  Janet—  said in the depth of the group. “He doesn’t deserve you.”
“I have no idea who he is, but fuck him!” A different voice chimed in. “Men are trash—”
The men in the group made an unsatisfactory sound.
“Current company excluded.”
Y/N smiled and whipped her tears. “Randall’s not trash, he just...” She paused for a moment to think. “Isn’t what I thought he was.”
“And what would that be?” Randall shouted from the doorway of the auditorium.
All the heads in the room snapped in his direction and he could hear Y/N’s heart stop for just a millisecond. As he walked down the aisle, Randall’s ears grew accustomed to her increasing heartbeat. He memorized the sound after all the nights he spent with his head against her breasts, but he hadn’t heard it beat that fast. Ever. It scared him.
Upon walking to the stage, Randall watched as the group parted—  like the red sea—  Y/N. His favorite girl. No longer the fierce siren he saw while she was performing. Her mascara smudged underneath her eyes and her lip gloss dripped to her chin. But, it hadn’t mattered to Randall. She could walk through a hurricane and he’d still see the beauty within her.
“Why are you here?” She asked as she walked down the stairs.
“You’re such a good performer! I was completely captivated by your stage presence—” Randall found himself spilling before realizing it.
“Can you just not. . . be yourself for one minute and be serious?” Y/N said in a frustrated tone.
It was true. She was mad at him.
“I must’ve really fucked up if you can’t take my silliness,” he mumbled to himself. Suddenly a little self-conscious, Randall looked at the group of people that had obviously been eavesdropping on the situation. He looked back at his girl and gripped her hand. “Can we talk in somewhere private, please?”
Y/N sighed and gave him a nod.
Randall pulled her out of the auditorium and into the vacant corridor.
“Look, I—” He cut her off with an embrace. Hands around her waist and nose in her hair. She smelled like cinnamon and sugar. But, it wasn’t the artificial kind that came in a spray bottle, no. It was the smell of freshly baked buns and the wafty aroma that scattered across the roll while they cooled. “Randall, what are you—”
“Just tell me what I did, so I could never do it again,” he squeezed her body closer to his and pressed a cheek to her head.  “Being away from you for that long is something I refuse to do again. I tried my best to give you your space but it pained me. . . Tell me what to do.”
Y/N’s heartbeat slowed to its normal pace as she released a shaky breath. “I saw you kiss some girl at the party.”
His body tensed. She saw him kissing Ashley? The girl was just some drunken sorority chick that stumbled across the party. Randall had won a game of beer pong and she followed him outside to give him a ‘reward’. He hated the kiss if he could even call it that. It felt like Randall was desperately trying not to choke on her tongue. He shivered at the war flashback.
“This may sound lame, but she really did kiss me,” Randall replied. “I didn’t want to come across as rude, so I just let it happen. I wish I hadn’t though. She was such a bad kisser. Like oh my god, so bad. I drool all over my shirt and everything”
She giggled. “That’s disgusting.”
“It was worse than you think,” Randall grimaced before pulling away to face Y/N. “I am sorry that I hurt you so bad that I forced you into isolation. I would never hurt you on purpose, you know that, right?”
She looked up at him with wide eyes. “I know that now.”
Randall placed a hand on her cheek and gave her a longing look. “Do you, also, know how much I love you, Y/N?”
“. . . What?”
Randall pressed his lips against hers for a steamy kiss. Y/N’s arms wrapped around his neck quickly as she stood on her tiptoes to deepen the kiss. He dropped his hand from her face and gathered her legs in his hands. He lifted her up with ease and pressed her against the wall. She groaned against his lips and arched her back, further pressing their bodies together. Y/N braided her fingers in his hair and tighten her legs around his waist. The pent up frustration from the overall situation had quickly become sexual and they were seconds from ripping each other’s clothes off.
The sound of a door closing brought her back to reality and Y/N pulled away from his lips. Just for him to attack her neck.
“Randall, we have to stop now,” she struggled to stop the moans from slipping from her lips. Y/N craned her neck to the side and tugged on the rooks of his hair. She jerked his head away from her neck and narrowed her eyes. “I mean it, Randall.”
“You’re no fun,” he pouted.
“I am not trying to have our first time in a hallway, Randall,” she hissed.
“But, it would be so risque,” he pouted even more. “The thrill is getting caught is so intoxicating.”
“But getting expelled isn’t,” Y/N rolled her eyes. “Can you put me down now?”
“So you are just gonna leave me all hot and bothered?” Randall said in blatant shock.
“I was going to suggest your dorm room, but since you suggested leaving—! Ah!”
Randall slung Y/N over his shoulder and jogged through the hall. “I take it back! Come on, we don’t have any time to waste!”

Next Chapter (NSFW)
“Oikawa-san!! Oikawa-san!”
He stops in his tracks on his way into the gym. It was his mistake walking alone from class to practice, usually commandeering a teammate to act as a buffer and an escape route if needed. Plastering his practiced smile on his face, he turns to find the most tenacious members of his fan club trailing him and waving happily.
He indulges them, asking them about their days, what they’re up to later—the usual small talk shit he feels he might accidentally start saying in his sleep. It isn’t until he notices you striding up the sidewalk towards the gym does his heart punch up into his throat and his hands feel clammy. How is it that he can placate a gaggle of girls at the drop of a hat but when it comes to you, he sometimes feels like his tongue is twisting into knots?
You at least spare him a pitiful glance as you pass him, but don’t have the courage to help him out at the expense of incurring the wrath of the fan club. He doesn’t blame you. Though what makes his blood boil is the look they give you as you pass, like you aren’t worth their time and definitely not his.
But he’d spend every minute of his day with you if he could.
The thought hits him like a truck. What the fuck is he doing standing around here when you’re right there?
Excusing himself abruptly from the conversation, with a half-assed, “I need to get to practice ladies!” He jogs to catch up with you, unable to ignore the scowls pointed in your direction because of course they blame you. He supposes he blames you for stealing his heart too, but he can’t complain too much with the smirk you give him once he catches up.
“I didn’t think you had the balls for that Oikawa.”
He laughs—his real laugh, knowing the fan club is still watching, but unable to bring himself to care. “They must be huge then,” He leans in, shielding his mouth on one side to hiss, “because they are terrifying.”
You look at him with raised eyebrows for a moment. “I take it back.” He frowns animatedly. “I think they’re totally shriveled up right now.”
“Hey!”
You just laugh, reaching the gym and peeling your shoes off to change them before looking over your shoulder with a smile on your face that destroys him, and beckon him to follow you. You have no clue just how wrapped around your finger he is.
~
Recently, the fan club has gotten more vicious than they’ve ever been before. You’re usually able to ignore it, brushing it off and not letting it get under your skin. But with the increased tenacity of the club, it’s almost impossible to go a single day without hearing something from them. Before there were stretches of time that were peaceful and you usually only had to deal with it around game times.
And even if it damns you further, you can’t help your eyes scanning the dining hall for a friendly face one afternoon and locking onto Oikawa sitting with a couple other team members. Normally, you wouldn’t mind sitting alone but whenever you’re alone is when it’s the worst. And when you did your scan, the club is to nobody’s surprise sitting a few tables away from Oikawa.
He doesn’t notice you until you’ve approached the table, his eyes lighting up until he sees your expression. It immediately sets him on high alert, wondering just what the hell is wrong to make you look like that. Timid and nearly caving in on yourself, he has to resist his urge to leap out of his chair and smother you in his arms.
“Can I sit with you guys?”
He doesn’t even bother asking the others, knowing they won’t mind. He pats the empty chair next to him. “Of course!”
You give him a feeble smile before depositing your backpack on the chair and heading off to get yourself some food. One of the guys at the table frowns, obviously gleaning something is wrong just as Oikawa has. “What’s up with her?”
Oikawa racks his brain for anything that might have made you act like that, but he hasn’t seen you since yesterday’s practice and you were completely normal then. He scrunches his brows, and it’s then that he sees past his teammates shoulder and notices his fan club seated a few tables away. And they are deep in conversation.
He watches in horror as they all get up and head in your direction. It’s like his world slows to a snail’s pace as his eyes trail them, watching them huddle near the ice cream machine—directly next to you. His eyes widen, noticing how your body stiffens and your fingers grip your tray tightly while the fan club whispers amongst themselves. Then they move off, back to their table, looking rather smug.
He doesn’t have to be a genius to figure out what just happened and why you’d asked to sit with them.
Turning back to his table, he realizes everyone has just witnessed the same thing he did. And nobody looks very pleased. Oikawa presses his lips into a firm line before hissing, “It’s not like I tell them to do that!” He groans, tipping his head back and hating himself just a little bit.
When you return, you’re even stiffer than before. You slide into the chair, give them all a weak smile, and then pull out your phone to start quietly scrolling. In all honesty, if you try to talk to them right now you might burst into tears and you definitely don’t feel like explaining yourself to them. Nor do you feel like embarrassing yourself by crying in the middle of the dining hall with the fan club 3 fucking tables away. So instead, you stuff you mouth full of rice and shove the tightness growing in your throat down with it.
Halfway through your meal, the rest of the team excuses themselves, leaving just you and Oikawa at the table. You don’t know if this is worse or better.
But when you sneak a peek at him from the corner of your eye and see his deep chocolate eyes filled with worry staring at you—you decide on worse.
“I’m fine,” you say quietly, not bothering to pause eating.
He grits his teeth, having expected that answer from you. “What did they say?”
You almost choke on your rice.
He saw?
Now you sigh, putting down your chopsticks to look at him. “It doesn’t matter.” His frown only deepens, clearly not believing you. Without your permission, your heart beats thunderously against your chest with his full attention on you. You’ve never seen Oikawa look so serious outside of volleyball before and it’s directed at you and you have no idea what to do with yourself. “It’s just gotten worse lately,” you whisper.
“Worse?”
His voice raises enough that you have to shush him. Once he calms down a bit you continue, “They just don’t like me because I’m a manager for the volleyball team, okay? It’s nothing I can’t handle.”
The lie feels slimy on your tongue.
They’re slowly breaking you—and you know it. But that doesn’t mean Oikawa needs to know about it.
“They don’t do that to Miko!” He hisses, leaning in close and hoping nobody around you can hear your conversation.
You sigh, unsure if he’s being dense or he just doesn’t believe you. “Yeah, well, Miko doesn’t stay late to help you practice or study with you in the library or I don’t know—be your friend? They don’t like the idea of anyone being close to you who isn’t them!”
You don’t really know why you’re angry, but does he really not see? Shoving out your chair, you gather your things, snatch your tray and leave him sitting dumbfounded in his chair. The snickering of the fan club is mere din in your ears compared to the blood rushing through them.
Why do you think they target you—Oikawa? Could it be the small smiles reserved just for you that he gives you, the late nights spent together, the fact you spend so much time with him and seem to make him happy? Through your anger, you can’t see what all of those things add up to. Instead, you stride out of the dining hall intent on returning to your apartment and screaming into your pillow.
It’s not that he doesn’t see. He knows anyone who gets close to him becomes a target. Girls have broken up with him in the past over it. But you never…brought it up. You never talked about it and he figured it either didn’t bother you, or he’d foolishly hoped maybe you’d slipped under their radar. Seems he’d been wrong in so many ways.
~
A few days pass after your outburst in the dining hall. You act normally at practice, though ignore him more than usual, and he at least has the mind to leave you alone and not ask you to stay late with him. Instead resorting to practicing late alone and it becoming extremely clear to him how much he misses you.
Until one day you’re absent. It’s so jarring to him he can barely focus during practice, getting knocked on the head a few times with a volleyball by his teammates. You never miss practice, and when you do you always let someone know well in advance. This time, all he gets for an explanation is a vague ‘she wasn’t feeling well’ from Miko.
He thinks that’s bullshit. Knowing full well you’d be here even if you were sick as a dog and they’d all have to force you to go home and rest. It’s happened on several occasions.
So, when practice wraps up, he is the first out the door, garnering strange looks from the others. He sprints across campus to your apartment building just on the outskirts of the school, takes the stairs by twos and arrives at your door panting with thighs burning from his mad dash over here. He’s able to compose himself a moment before knocking on the door.
Your roommate answers, her eyes widening at the sight of Oikawa Tooru standing on the other side of the door. For a brief moment he thinks she’s going to shut the door in his face, judging by her displeased expression. He asks if you’re here.
Her expression doesn’t change. “Yeah, but why the fuck should I let you in?”
That only confirms that something is very wrong. He stands there, trying desperately to form the words to convince her to let him in to see you. All he’s able to choke out is a quiet, “Please.”
He has no idea how that convinces her. Maybe he looks so pathetic she feels bad for him, but either way she stands to the side and wordlessly beckons him inside. He follows her down the hallway, stopping at your door as she continues down to the end reaching her door. Before she shuts it, she glares at him, getting her point across without saying a word.
She will hurt him if he hurts you.
He swallows nervously. This entire interaction has only made his worry shoot through the roof and he has no idea what he’s walking into as he opens the door.
Your room is dark, the only light coming from the streetlamp outside the window and from the hallway behind him, illuminating your frame curled under your covers with your back to the door. “Akane I told you I don’t want to talk about it.” Your voice is so fragile his heart splits in two.
His throat closes up. “It’s—it’s not Akane.”
Your head whips up at the sound of Oikawa’s voice. You turn, finding him standing in the doorway, his face so shadowed by the light of the hallway behind him that you can’t read his expression. You wish you had the energy to throw a pillow at him and tell him to get out, that you don’t want to see anyone right now. You don’t want anyone to see you like this—to see how some stupid fucking words broke you.
Instead, your lips tremble and the tears you’ve been holding back for hours pool in your eyes. And while you can’t see him, he can see you clear as day, and his heart splinters watching you try to keep your tears at bay. He’s frozen for a moment, but when your tears spill over onto your cheeks, he moves on instinct.
He crouches at the side of your bed, taking your hands into his, rubbing the tops of them with his thumbs while tears continue to roll down your face. His hands are warm, the familiarity of his callouses startling you yet comforting all the same. Each quiet sob of yours makes his chest crumble in on itself, all while his mind running through every situation that made you like this.
“What’s wrong?” He asks tentatively.
You hate the sob that shakes you. How dare his voice be so soft and soothing?
“It—it’s stupid,” you manage to squeak out.
His hands move from yours to cup your face and start wiping your tears away. It only makes you cry harder. Why does he have to be so wonderful yet so unattainable?
He frowns, not a fan of you undermining your feelings like that. He moves to climb into your bed, which you surprisingly let him, and gathers you into his lap. He wraps his arms around you, letting you press your face into his chest, the end of your tears nowhere in sight. “It’s not stupid if it’s made you cry,” he murmurs into your hair, one of his hands rubbing tender circles on your back.
Nothing he is doing is helping to stop your crying. It’s only making you sob harder, not wanting to admit that his fan club finally broke you.
He says your name quietly. “Please tell me.”
“No.”
That makes him sigh deeply, your head rising and falling against his chest. “Your stubbornness is impressive but you’re the one who’s going to give in today.” That at least earns him a scoff from you.  “And I’m not going to leave until you tell me.”
“I don’t want you to leave, I just don’t want to tell you,” you say so plainly his brain short circuits for a second. He thought maybe your sobs have subsided but, they start anew, and your fingers grip his shirt like you’re trying to pull yourself even closer to him. You can’t deny how warm and comforting he is, nor how much you didn’t realize the only person you really wanted to see was him. “It was awful today. They wouldn’t leave me alone.”
His entire body stiffens. Through your sobs, you manage to explain, “It was so dumb, but I just couldn’t do it anymore.”
“What did they say?” He says his voice dipping into a deadly tone.
You bury your face into his chest, your voice muffled as you say, “That the only reason you all keep me as a manager for the team is because you can’t have somebody pretty to distract you.”
His blood runs cold. Gripping your shoulders, he yanks you away from his chest so forcefully you gasp in surprise. He holds you an arm’s length away from him, his eyes boring into your soul. You’re speechless, waiting for him to say whatever is on his mind.
But what you aren’t expecting is for him to say with all the seriousness in the world, “You are the most beautiful person I have ever laid eyes on.” And it’s so shocking that your natural reaction is to burst out laughing in the ugly ‘what the fuck is happening?’ sort of way. “Why are you laughing?!”
“Are you serious?”
“Of course I am!” He shakes you as if that’s going to make you believe him.
Now you’re stunned. Enough that your tears dry up and you just look at him. He watches you with bated breath, the wheels clearly turning in your head as you start to put the pieces together. “You—you’re…”
God, he’s over this. “Can’t you see that I’m fucking in love with you dammit!” He shouts, loud enough that he’s certain your roommate hears it too.
You brain grinds to a halt and the only word you’re able to say is, “Oh.”
You’ve slowly been coming to the realization that the same is true for you. And hearing him say it only makes you that much surer of it. He looks like he’s about to combust that all you can say is ‘oh’, and when he’s about to open his mouth to get you to say anything else, you cup his face with your hands making his mouth snap shut.
The moment your lips meet his, he’s done for. Kissing him his terrifying, knowing you’ve crossed a line that once you’ve crossed you can’t go back—but as one of his hands slides to the back of your head and the other to your waist to press you flush against him it simply starts to feel right. Like your hands were meant to caress his cheeks before moving to tangle in his hair at the nape of his neck, eliciting a deep rumble of pleasure from him that you swear you haven’t heard in your dreams before.
He kisses you like he’s starved, like he’s thought about this moment before and knows exactly what to do with his mouth, his hands, his tongue. Holy fuck—he’s intoxicating, making all thoughts of his fan club and any of your insecurities disappear into meaningless nothing. He’s telling you right here, without words, just what he thinks about you.
And it’s that you’re perfect in every conceivable way to him.
“Oikawa,” you breathe between kisses.
“Mmh.”
It’s a minute before you have the chance to speak again. “The door is still open.”
That makes him laugh. “I can’t begin to tell you how much I don’t care right now.”
“I do!” You push away from him, somehow escaping his attempt to grab you and pull you back to the bed. Once you’ve shut the door, you hop back into the bed next to him, but he protests with a stellar pout and drags you into his lap so he can pepper kisses all over your face and neck.  “Oikawa, please!” You try to scramble away from him, but he holds you tight, refusing to let you go.
“Not until you promise not to believe a word they say anymore,” he mumbles against your neck.
You sigh, taking his head into your hands and forcing him to stop his ministrations for a second to look him straight in the eyes. “It’s hard.”
His eyes soften. “I know. But I need you to know none of it is true—none of it. And you’ve owned me, heart and soul, since the first day you stepped into the gym.” It’s so unbearably cheesy that you try to cover your face with your hands, but he restrains you, his large hands wrapped around your wrists and he peers to look at you. “Promise?”
“You’re annoying,” you say, desperately trying to normalize this situation.
He pouts. “That’s not nice—,”
“I promise.” You cut him off. “Now you promise me that you won’t let them kill me in my sleep.”
He barks out a laugh at that, relishing in the sound of yours joining it. Then he presses his forehead against yours, his warm breath fanning your face as he murmurs, “Yes, I promise.”

can you do nct 127 reaction to calling you and finding out you're in the middle of masturbating?
Taeil:  “Hello? Baby?” Taeil said as soon as you picked up your phone. “Have you seen my vibrating toothbrush? It was here last time you were, and now it’s missing. I remember you’ve used it when you forgot to bring yours last week.” You froze and clenched your thighs tight. The vibrating toothbrush in question was on your clit, the back of its smooth head taking you on a happy ride. You didn’t think your boyfriend would mind if you bought him a new one the next time you saw him. “No.” you said, your voice unconvincing. Taeil exhaled and stayed silent. You were aware that he could hear the buzzing of the toothbrush between your legs, the faint sound pulsating along with your orgasm. “Does it feel good, baby?” Taeil whispered, his voice so low you could barely hear it. You moaned into the phone and moved the toothbrush over your pussy, the thought of it being in Taeil’s mouth making you even hornier. “Maybe I should get us some toys next time, yes?” he asked.
Johnny: Looking at your boyfriends ‘Kick It’ pics while he was away felt a little bit like cheating on the real thing. The photos of Johnny’s abs were high quality, so high quality that you couldn’t stop thinking about how long it had been since you kissed them. “Fuck,” you whispered. “I miss you.” You placed your hand on top of your stomach and let it slide down into your pants. Closing your eyes, you pictured Johnny laying on top of you, his lips on your neck. You opened an eye and looked at the picture of him shirtless, zooming in on his stomach and remembering what it felt like to touch. You were getting so lost in the moment that the vibrations from your phone made you drop it onto your face. You picked up the call, your voice winded, “Hello?” On the other end, Johnny sounded like he was in a good mood. “I’ve been trying to get a hold of you all day,” he said. “Where were you?” You looked down at your shirt climbing up your stomach, at the bulge of your fist in your pants. Johnny easily saw through you, so you decided to tell him the truth. “I’ve been touching myself to your pics,” you said. “I’m so happy you made an Instagram.” Johnny’s chuckle was boisterous and infectious. When he was done laughing, he got really close to the phone and whispered. “You can show me how happy you are when I get home.”
Taeyong: “You sound busy.” he said, his voice soft. You cursed yourself for sounding so short with Taeyong. You laid with a small rubber butt plug in your ass and a vibrator stimulating your clit. You turned it off to answer his call, your orgasm deflating like a balloon. “I wouldn’t have answered if I didn’t want to hear your voice.” you said. At that, Taeyong perked up a little bit. “I’m really bored. I think I’m going crazy,” he said. “What are you doing? Do you want to come by?” You raised the wet vibrator up and decided how honest you wanted to be with him. ” Well, “ you said. “I can’t at the moment.” You could hear Taeyong’s frown through the phone. “Is everything okay?” he asked. You stumbled over your words before gathering the courage to tell the truth, “ You interrupted me during a very special time. My special alone time. Do you know what I mean?” You could hear Taeyong trying to process, could hear his little noises of embarrassment. “I’m sorry,” he said. “I will call you later..or never.” You laughed, “Taeyong, it’s okay.” After a few seconds of silence, you heard his voice as tiny and as soft as possible, “Do you think I could listen to you?”
Yuta: “What are you doing?” he asked. “Are you touching yourself? Without me? Without my permission?” Yuta’s stern voice kept your pelvis pinned to the bed. You licked your lips and waited for him to speak some more. “Who do you think you are?” he asked. “Yours.” you said without hesitation. You began moving again, rubbing your clit roughly and hoping that you wouldn’t come too early. “Stop.” Yuta said. You slowed but didn’t stop. After a beat, Yuta spoke, “I told you to stop.” You moved your fingers down into the wetness of your hole and kept them still. “Tell me what to do next.” you said. Yuta laughed. When he spoke, he sounded bored, but you knew it was all a part of the game. “Go slowly,” he said. “When you think you’re going to break, stop. I want you to keep doing that every time until you wait for me. I’m on my way. I’ll stay on the phone with you the whole time.” You did as Yuta told you, edging yourself over and over again, your clit sensitive to the lightest touch. You were covered in your own sweat by the time he made it to your apartment, your phone sliding down your neck and your legs wide open for him.
Doyoung: You were always horny before your period, but Doyoung wasn’t around. You laid across your bed and thought about calling him over, but you knew he was too lazy to make the trip. Instead, you closed your eyes and imagined his graceful fingers sliding in and out of you. You arched your back into the fantasy, the front of your shorts rubbing against your bunched up blankets. Doyoung liked to make a whiny sound whenever he had control over you, a cross between a sharp intake of breath and a guttural moan. You could practically hear it in your head as you imagined him pounding into you. Your roommate knocked on the door, making it hard for you to finish the fantasy. “Doyoung is on the phone.” she said. You got up and grabbed the phone from her without looking at her and roughly closed the door behind you. “I was just thinking about you.” you said. Doyoung moved around on the other end, taking awhile to speak. “All good things I hope.” he said. You laid back down on your bed and continued grinding your covers to the sound of his voice. You could tell Doyoung knew what you were doing but didn’t want to interrupt. He kept his voice deep and even until you came from the friction, your moans stifled against your pillow. “Good girl.” he said.
Jaehyun: You could hear the busy traffic before he spoke. “Fuck!” you said into the phone. “Jaehyun, I totally forgot. I am so sorry.” Jaehyun’s voice was silky smooth and unaffected. “You’re late,” he said. “I’ve been standing out here for ten minutes alone. Are you coming?” You looked down at the glass cock sticking out of your pussy and said, “Something like that. Give me twenty minutes, and I will be right there. Go inside a cafe, I promise I won’t be long. I got caught up. I didn’t mean to. Fuck, I am so sorry. What will it take for you to forgive me?” You sat up at an odd angle that made the glass cock inside of you hurt so you laid back down. “What did you get so caught up in?” Jaehyun asked. “Anything I can help with?” You could imagine his smirk over the phone, his handsome hair getting windswept and still looking perfect. “Wouldn’t you like to know.” you said. You could feel yourself wanting to flirt back harder, to tell him you liked to imagine it was his warm cock fucking you, but you weren’t quite there yet. “Just come fast,” he said. “And then you can tell me what you’ve been up to.”
Jungwoo: “Can you stay on the phone with me?” he asked. Jungwoo called you because he was wandering into the kitchen late at night and all of the lights were off. You agreed, taking your hands slowly out of your pants. You had been fucking your own fingers for over an hour, the rawness of your skin making itself felt. With sticky fingers, you put your phone on speaker. “Are you making something to eat? This late at night?” you asked. Jungwoo laughed nervously and said, “Maybe.” You listened to him scrounge around for food until your curiosity got the better of you. “Jungwoo,” you said. “What would you do if I said you called me in the middle of masturbating?” The rustling on the other end of the phone stopped. The sound of him clearing his throat filled your bedroom. “I would say I’m sorry,” he said. “And then I would let you get back to it.” His answer made you laugh, causing him to follow with laughter of his own. With Jungwoo, there was never any awkward moments. “And what if I said I wanted you here with me?” you asked. Jungwoo sucked in a breath and said, “I would say I’m sorry, and then I would make myself a snack because I’m hungry.”
Mark: You argued with Mark about his naivety before. You called him innocent, and he called himself unaffected by things. Even his way of debating his own awareness was too soft, too moral. You had never really thought about him in any other light until he called you in the middle of your masturbation session, your fingers knuckle deep inside of yourself. Having him call you wasn’t on the agenda, but you figured Mark’s gullibility might allow for some wiggle room. “Make it fast,” you said. “I’m in the middle of something.” Continuing to touch yourself as he talked was less about getting off to the sound of his voice and more about keeping your hands busy. Still, the sound of Mark’s gruff voice made it hard for you to focus on anything but his sexiness. “So,” he said when he finished. “Are you doing what I think you’re doing?” You let out a breath you had been holding, causing Mark to fall silent. “What do you mean?” you asked. You quickened your fingers and leaned your head back so that you couldn’t hear what he said. When you pressed your ear back against the phone, you could hear Mark’s little intakes of breath. Realizing that he was masturbating with you sent you over the edge. “After you come for me, Mark Lee,” you said. “We never speak about this again.”

Could you write a modern au, Armitage Hux x Reader oneshot in which Hux is a well respected CEO in the center of Manhattan and the reader is just a barista at a local coffee shop that’s right across from Hux’s building. On an off day Hux is forced to take the bus. He recognizes the reader because he’s gotten coffee from her shop before and decides to start a conversation. He ends up taking the bus more often just to see the reader and she ends up questioning him why. Sorry if that’s so specific.
Sunshine
This is definitely not too specific, and I’m OBSESSED with this concept! Thank you for this request. I have this for you, hope you like it!
This was partially inspired by @amadwomanrambles wonderful CEO! Hux headcanons that you can find here.  I also posted my own hcs earlier today about him (here), and I’m such a slut for this au I’ll probably post more!

CEO! Hux x Barista! Reader Modern AU
Warnings: Pretty much just language! Enjoy 😊
When the interviewer from Forbes Magazine asked Armitage Hux—CEO of First Order Enterprises and one of the youngest millionaires currently residing in New York City—what the secret to his success was, he had a ready response: strict adherence to an optimized routine. Unlike most of the nonsense he was required to prattle on about in those interviews, this was something that he actually believed.
He started each day the same way: wake to an alarm at 5 AM, exercise, shower, breakfast and the news. After that he’d dress for work, check his email, and then wait for his driver to pick him up from his apartment and take him to the office building in Midtown. He’d arrive at work at 6:15 sharp, and he’d stay there until the sun set each evening. It was a good routine. A safe routine. And he wasn’t about to break it for just anything.
Today he didn’t have a choice. His driver called him at 5:30. She was sick. She could call someone else, but they’d be late. Hux told her not to bother; he’d find another way to work. He didn’t mention the queasiness that piqued in his stomach at the mention of another driver. They’d probably try to talk to him, and he’d have to think of something to say. Hux could handle a boardroom, he could handle a press-conference, he could even handle a fundraiser with sufficient preparation. But one-on-one interaction? With a stranger? He avoided it as often as he could.
But then how to get to work? He wouldn’t take a cab, for the same reasons he didn’t want another driver, in addition to the fact that most were terribly dirty. He never took the subway if he could help it. Hux stares down at the streets below, watches as New York City begins to wake. Out of the corner of his eye, he can see a bus stop, only a short distance from the front door of his building. It’s better than walking.
Hux finishes the rest of his morning routine, but there’s little pleasure in it now that he’s been forced to alter it, and his displeasure only deepens after he checks the bus schedule; he’s missed the first one, which means he’ll be late. At least he knows that his coffee won’t be waiting for him, since it’s a Wednesday.
Heat rises in his cheeks whenever Hux thinks about his favorite part of his morning routine. Every day but Wednesday, he gets to spend the last minutes before he walks into work at Pleasant Distraction Coffee, a little shop across the street from the FOE building, and every day but Wednesday, he starts his mornings with you—your smile, the brush of your fingers as you hand him his drink. You always have it ready for him when he walks in the door, and he thinks that you, too, have an appreciation for routine, for order. Not that he can say, for sure. He’s never really talked to you, after all, but he believes that the gesture speaks volumes.
The air is cool and brisk outside his apartment, and he arrives at the bus stop with five minutes to spare. The sun is just starting to rise, the rays of light reflecting off of the windows of his building, and he thinks that New York City looks better when it’s bathed in the golden glow of the morning. It’s almost pleasant enough to make him forget his earlier frustrations, and he’s starting to feel invigorated instead of annoyed, like the day is full of unexplored possibilities. Like maybe he should take the bus more often. He immediately regrets that thought when the bus actually pulls up, coughing a thick cloud of exhaust fumes in his face before it stops. He boards and pays, and then freezes in the middle of the aisle. It’s you.
“Find a seat,” the bus driver calls back loudly, and a few people glare at him as he sits down, but you don’t notice the commotion, mouthing along to the music playing in your headphones, oblivious to the world. You look different out of your uniform, but Hux thinks he’d know you anywhere and he falls into a seat, watching to make sure he’s right.
No, it’s definitely you. Your expression betrays an intense level of focus as you lean in closer to the book you’re reading before you scribble in the margins and then flip to the next page. He never gets to see you like this: looking so awake, so alive. It’s always been hard for him to take his eyes off of you, but now . . .
He should talk to you. He should talk to you because if he doesn’t, and you see him, you would think that he had chosen to ignore you, and he didn’t want that. That is, if you recognized him at all. Would you recognize him? You saw him every morning, but it was always while you were working, and it wasn’t like your interactions with him were particularly unique. You probably handed hundreds of people their coffee everyday. But you did remember his order; that had to count for something. And he’d really like a chance to say more to you than just “good morning.”
The bus stops again, and Hux gathers the courage to move to the closest empty seat. Your eyes stay on your book, your pen resting on your bottom lip. Hux takes in a deep breath before tapping you on the shoulder, and to his horror, you jump, ripping your headphones from your ears and turning to face him.
“Holy shit, you scared me—wait a second, I know you!” Your expression transforms from anger and surprise to one of recognition, and your face lights up when you give him a smile. It’s a genuine smile—not a customer-service smile, like he normally gets. A sunshine smile. Hux has to remind himself to breathe.
“I didn’t mean to frighten you,” he says when he finally regains the ability to speak, “but I thought I recognized you and I wanted to say hello.” He trails off awkwardly; this was a terrible idea. He had nothing to say to you, but he had to admit that he liked being this close, liked being able to see the way your lashes brush against your cheeks when you look down, pausing the tinny music he can hear coming from your headphones.
“Well, hello,” you say, smiling again. Hux turns his gaze to the ceiling, begging his brain to come up with something to say. Luckily, you carry on the conversation for him, “I’ve never seen you on the bus before. Car trouble?”
“Something like that,” it’s not technically a lie, and he isn’t exactly eager to get into the details of his morning. What would you think of him if you knew he had a personal chauffeur while you were forced to take the bus?
“Hmmm, that sucks. If you need a mechanic, I know a guy.” You pull a slip of paper out of the back cover of your book and nestle it between the pages, closing it and resting it in your lap. Hux takes this as a good sign—you want to keep talking to him.
“It’s being taken care of,” he says, and then, hoping to change the subject, “what’s your stop?”
“Oh, I’m headed to NYU,” you say, nudging your backpack on the floor with the toe of your shoe.
“You’re a student?” He should have guessed, but the information surprises him. You seemed older than most of the students he sometimes saw running around campus when he went to give guest lectures in the business school every semester.
“No, I just like going to the library on my days off,” you say in explanation, like you already knew what he was thinking, “It’s quiet there and my roommates are loud, so . . . ” The bus jolts to a stop again, and you’re almost thrown into him, until you brace yourself against his shoulder. Your hand lingers just for a moment before you move it back your lap once again, mumbling a quick apology. Hux changes his mind again, he should definitely take the bus more often.
“This is an early start for a day off,” he says, and you laugh.
“Yeah, it is. I guess all the time I spend serving coffee has kind of ruined my ability to sleep in,” you say, and then with some hesitation, “you work for First Order Enterprises, right?”
“How did you know that?” God, he hopes you don’t read the tabloids. He’s only minor fodder for the parasites who write them—there are many bigger names in New York than his—but the articles aren’t exactly flattering, and he’d hate for you to have a negative opinion of him before he even had a chance to get to know you.
“Well, I do see you walk into the building every day,” you say in explanation, and he relaxes, safe for now. Maybe it’s a trick of the light as it floods through the greying bus window, but he thinks you might be blushing, and it’s thrilling. Talking to you is surprisingly easy, even when he’s so often distracted by the quirk of your lips, the way your tongue sometimes peaks out of the corner of your mouth when you’re trying to think of something to say. Hux takes a chance to look out the window and, to his dismay, he can see the FOE building in the distance. His time with you is almost up.
“I think my stop is next,” he says, and your mouth folds into a small frown. He moves to stand, getting ready to disembark, but you stop him with a hand on his arm.
“Wait,” you say, and he hesitates, although he can tell by the streets passing by that the bus will be stopping any moment now, “I don’t know your name.” Hux winces. Of course he should tell you his name, he knows yours after all; you wear a name tag when you’re working and he had made a point to read it. You don’t release him, expectant.
“I go by Hux,” he says, finally giving in, and you squint your eyes at him in confusion.
“There’s no way that’s your name,” you say, your fingers dancing over the sleeve of his suit jacket sending sparks up through his arm. It wakes him up better than caffeine ever has; he feels like he could run a marathon if you just kept touching him.
“I go by my last name, actually,” he explains, and you raise your eyebrows, waiting for more, “my first name is . . . unique.”
“Well, now I have to know.” Your eyes light up and you smirk, tightening your grip as he feels the bus roll to a stop. He looks to the doors, waiting for them to open, but you tug on the hem of his sleeve to bring his attention back to you, “It’ll drive me crazy if you don’t tell me.” God, you’re pretty when you want something. Hux has a feeling that you don’t hear the word no often, and you certainly won’t hear it from him.
“It’s Armitage,” he finally concedes, and you throw your hands to your mouth, but they can’t keep the squeal from escaping. He gives you a pained look and you lower them, adopting an air of mock solemnity.
“That is unique,” you say, clearing your throat to cover up your giggle, “what does it mean?”
“Mean?” The bus finally stops, and he stands, waiting for the bus driver to open the doors.
“Come on, a name like that has to mean something.” Your finger runs over the skin of his wrist, and he has to lean close to hear you over the sound of the passengers getting on, a few of them shuffling irately past him to find seats. He should leave now, before the bus driver starts up again again, but not without giving you what you asked.
“It means,” he says quietly, “that my father was an asshole.”
You pause only for a moment, and then the sound of your laughter fills the whole bus, a hearty, full laugh that’s like gold in his veins. A few people glare at the two of you, but Hux doesn’t mind the attention. God, that’s a lovely sound. He’d like to wake up to a sound like that. Your hand falls from his arm, and he straightens, heading to the door, but he looks back before disembarking.
“I guess I’ll see you tomorrow, Armitage.” You leave him with one last smile as he steps down onto the street. He stays on the curb for a moment, watching as the bus turns the corner, disappearing from view. For the first time in a long time, Hux thinks he has a reason to break his routine.
It doesn’t take long for you to figure him out; certainly not as long as he’d like. It’s the third morning that he sees you waiting for him, a morning that’s overcast and cloudy, but you smile at him when he walks through the doors and it makes everything seem brighter. You move your bag from the seat next to you and put away your book as he joins you—a new routine in its own right. It’s nice to see you in the mornings when he gets his coffee, but he’s been looking forward to Wednesday mornings the most, likes that he can just be with you for a little while.
“So I met a friend of yours yesterday,” you say in greeting as he sits, and the hairs on the back of his neck stand up. Hux doesn’t have many friends, and he had plenty of enemies who might try something devious. “Your driver—I think she said her name was Phasma? She came in for coffee after parking your car.” You’ve got a great poker face, but Hux thinks he can see the hint of a smile at the corners of your lips as you wait for an explanation. His face falls; he had hoped for a little more time to get to know you, and now he has to tell you the truth, even if it might drive you away.
“I’m sorry,” he says, and he turns away from you, trying to hide his disappointment. Getting coffee in the morning would be much too awkward if this conversation did not go well.
“When were you going to tell me?” You speak seriously, but everything about you is tinged with an infectious sort of humor, and it gives him a fragile sort of hope.
“I was actually hoping that I wouldn’t have to,” he responds, and you sit, waiting, staring him down with impenetrable eyes, “I just . . . wanted to get to know you.” You do smile then, a small, incredulous smile that makes his heart skip a beat.
“Well, since we’re being honest, I have something that I should tell you,” you don’t look at him as you speak, instead you rummage around in your backpack, pulling out your book again and flipping through the pages. He braces himself, waiting for the worst. Were you about to tell him that you had a boyfriend? Or that you weren’t interested? He looks out the window; his stop is close, but not close enough if he has to deal with the mortification of your rejection.
“I wasn’t planning on going to the library today,” you begin, pulling a slip of paper out of the back cover of your book, “I just came because I knew you’d be here.” You finally meet his eyes, your expression shy, embarrassed. Hux can scarcely believe it.
“Are you saying . . .” he doesn’t dare finish his sentence, but waits as you reach over, tucking the slip of paper into his waiting hands.
“Here,” you say, folding his fingers around it, and the slip crinkles against his fingers before he looks at it, raising it to eye level so he can better read the numbers you’ve written.
“What’s this?” He knows what it is, obviously, but he has to make sure that you’re on the same page. He’d like to make sure he’s not dreaming.
“It’s my phone number. Call me sometime.” He can’t think of a single thing to say, not when it feels like rays of pure light are bursting out of his chest, but he tucks the little paper into his jacket pocket, staring at you like an idiot. You smile back, openly. Even as you’re smiling, he can’t wait for the next one; he’s never seen happiness so at home on someone’s face before.
The bus rolls to a stop, and he’s pulled out of his reverie, standing so that he can disembark. He pats his pocket to make sure that the little paper is tucked securely away before turning to face you, “I’ll call you, tonight if that’s alright?” and you nod in response, looking almost as eager as he feels. He’ll call you tonight, and he’ll see you tomorrow morning, and hopefully every day after that, because he never wants to go another day without seeing you smile.

I’ve Been Waiting For You - Chapter 2: I Have a Dream

A/N: Don’t forget to listen to the song! Let me know if you want to be added to the taglist & feedback is always appreciated!
Summary: After getting to Florida, you decide wether you want to relax and settle in, or if you want to get straight to meeting people and kickstart your new life.
Tumblr media
The flight seemed to go by faster than you had expected. Maybe because you had kept yourself occupied by writing the entire time.
You had no idea what you wanted to do with your life. You loved reading and writing, which is why you became an English major. You also loved music. Which is why you became a music minor. You often wrote song lyrics in your journal. Songs that would never be published or even heard. But, it gave you an escape when you were in your relationship with Kyle. You allowed your mind to relax and just write.
So that’s what you did on your flight. You wrote about the pros and cons about moving to Florida. You wrote a list of things you would do, places you would go, jobs you were interested in. You even wrote your feelings toward Kyle. All bad feelings, of course.
A tear escaped your eyes as your past washed over you. You weren’t sure when you would be able to heal from what Kyle put you through. It was going to take a really long time, you knew that much. It hurt more knowing you had been keeping what he had done to you a secret. Rey knew most of what had happened, but not all of it. You couldn’t find the courage to tell her. To tell anyone. You thought of maybe looking for a therapist, someone who wouldn’t judge you, someone who didn’t know, when you got to Florida. No. Then Rey will ask and I will have to tell her.
You needed someone to talk to. But who? For now your thoughts, feelings and emotions stayed within that matte blue notebook you carried nearly everywhere.
You were snapped out of your thoughts when the captain came back onto the intercom.
“Alright everyone, we will be landing in about twenty minutes. Flight attendants please prepare the cabin for landing. My co-captain and I want to thank you for choosing Yavin Airlines, and we hope to see you again soon. Enjoy your stay, or welcome back, to Miami!” He said enthusiastically.
You sighed softly to yourself, finishing up your writing before closing your notebook and placing it in your carry on and putting the tray table up.
You looked out the window as the plane descended, taking in the beautiful skyline and beaches. You smiled softly to yourself. This was about to be your new home, your new future. While it was scary, you couldn’t help but be a little bit excited to start over.
After finally landing, you gathered your carryon items and waited to exit the plane. As you neared the exit, you smiled and thanked the flight attendants and captain, who were standing right outside the cockpit.
You must have been distracted by how undeniably handsome the pilot was that you didn’t realize your jacket had fallen from around your waist.
As you exited the plane, you heard someone call behind you.
“Excuse me, Miss?”
You turned around quickly to see the captain walking towards you with your jacket. “You dropped this.”
You didn’t know why, but your cheeks turned bright pink. “Thank you.” You smiled softly before taking your jacket back.
“No problem”. He smiled back.
You probably stared at him for a good ten seconds before finally speaking. “Um, have a good one”. You turned back around to leave.
“You too!” You heard him call.
You quickly wrapped your jacket around your waist and made your way to baggage claim. Maybe it was because you were embarrassed, or maybe it was because a very beautiful man approached you, but your cheeks remained flushed. Maybe it was both.
After gathering your bags, you headed outside to see Rey in her small blue sedan. She smiled wide when she saw you, getting out of the car and running around the car to hug you.
You dropped your bags and pulled her into a hug, your eyes immediately forming tears. “I missed you so much”.
“I missed you too.”
“Thank you. You have no idea how much this means to me.” You whispered softly.
“You’re welcome.” She hugged you tighter. “Come on, let’s go”. She helped you put your bags in the trunk.
Rey's apartment wasn’t very far from the airport. You two talked about how school was going for her, her new job at Resistance Tech Co., and how she had just found Connie was moving out to live with her boyfriend, which meant that you had an entire room to yourself. She mentioned that if you weren’t coming, she would have been pissed at Connie for telling them the day before she left, but you had decided to come at a convenient time. However, it also meant you were going to have to pay more money for rent. You would worry about finding a job later. Right now you just wanted to settle in.
Her apartment wasn’t too small. It had three bedrooms, one bathroom, a living room and a kitchen. It wasn’t huge, but it was homely. You dropped your bags into Connie’s old room, which was now yours, before heading back into the living room.
“Y/N, this is Rose.” Rey introduced you to her roommate. She was short with dark hair and she was smiling wide.
“Hi.” You stuck your hand out to shake hers, but she pulled you into a hug which took you by surprise.
“I’ve heard a lot about you. I know this was very last minute, but we are going to have so much fun!” She stated.
You laughed softly before pulling away and running your hand through your hair.
“Yeah, sorry for so little notice. I just really had to get out of New York. It was getting...old” You struggled for the word at first.
“I completely get it! You know, when I lived in-”
“Alright, Rose. I’m sure Y/N is exhausted from her flight, so let’s let her rest, yeah?” Rey cut Rose off.
“Right! Sorry.” She smiled. “I’m going to get ready for Finn's party.” She turned and trutted to her room.
“You’re going to a party tonight?” You asked nervously as you and Rey walked into your bedroom.
“Yeah. It’s one of my coworkers birthday tonight and his roommate is throwing him a surprise party. I would ask if you wanted to come but I assumed you were tired.” Rey responded.
You nodded. “Yeah. Yeah I think I’ll stay here. Maybe decorate the room and just get settled in. Unpack and stuff.” You were a bit uneasy about going to a big gathering and meeting people right away, so you thought it would be best to just relax at your new home for a while.
“Sounds good. Here’s your key, by the way” She handed it to you and you placed it on the desk. Rent is paid off for the next two months, but starting then we’re gonna need you to pay. Food is in the kitchen. Feel free to watch TV. The AC is by my room. If you need anything, let me know. I’ll be in my room getting ready, so I’ll be here for another hour or so.” She smiled and went to leave the room.
You nodded and smiled back before going to your bags to unpack.
As you pulled your notebook from your carry on bag, you sighed softly before throwing it on the desk. You thought about all of the negative thoughts that spiraled your mind during your flight. You opened it, reading some of your notes.
Did he mean what he said? Of course he did. I am nothing to him.
You slammed it shut before putting it into one of the desk drawers. It hit you that staying home alone tonight probably wasn’t the smartest thing to do. Besides, this was a time to start fresh. You didn’t want to continue dwelling on Kyle. It wasn’t going to get you anywhere. Your dream was to forget about your past and to let yourself be you. Not like this was going to happen overnight, but if you stayed back, you felt that this would become a habit and that you wouldn’t find yourself being happy anytime soon.
You headed towards Rey’s room before knocking on her door softly.
“Come in!”
You opened her door and saw her standing in front of her mirror examining herself. She was wearing a red blouse and skinny jeans with a black belt.
“You look nice”. You smiled at her.
“Thank you! You never know who could be at these things, you know?” She smirked.
You laughed slightly. “Right. Hey, um, I was actually wondering if it was okay that I did tag along.”
Rey glanced at you. “Yeah of course. You sure you aren’t too tired?”
You nodded. “Yeah, I’m fine. Also I just don’t really want to be alone tonight.”
She nodded in understanding. “We’re leaving in about fifteen minutes”.
“Okay, just let me know.” You walked back into your room and changed into a pair of black leggings and a pink blouse. You threw on your jean jacket and converse before heading into the living room to see Rose and Rey.
“Ready?” Rey asked with a smile.
“Yep.” You smiled back before heading out.
When you got to Finn's place, you were a bit nervous. You didn’t know anyone and that scared you a bit. You weren’t sure what these people would be like, and you don’t know what you would do or how you would react if someone tried to make a move on you.
You were starting to think this was a bad idea.
No. I’ll be okay. Rey is here. If I feel unsafe, I’ll let her know. It’s just gonna take time for me to feel okay again, you reassured yourself before walking inside with your new roommates.
There were a lot of people. You gulped as you looked around, staying closely behind Rey.
Rey guided you through the home. “I need to find Poe and let him know we’re here so he can tell Finn to come home.”
Poe. You had heard that name before, but you brushed it off.
Their apartment was bigger, and way nicer, than Rey’s. Whoever Poe and Finn were, they had a lot of money.
“Poe!” Rey rose her arm to catch the man's attention.
Wow. The young man was beautiful. You felt as though you had seen him before, but you couldn’t quite put your finger on it, anxiety still rushing through you due to all of the people surrounding you.
“Finally you’re here. Snap has been stalling with Finn for thirty minutes.” He approached your group, sighing. He looked down at his phone and texted someone something before looking back up and smiling. He looked at you and cocked his eyebrow slightly. “I’m sorry, I don’t think we’ve met”.
“Poe, this is my cousin Y/N. She just moved in with me from New York.” She gestured to you.
“Hi” You smiled nervously.
“Poe Dameron”. He reached a hand out to shake yours.
You were hesitant but then it hit you. Hello, ladies and gentlemen, this is your Captain Poe Dameron speaking…
You shook his hand. “Nice to meet you. I’m sorry, this is a really random question, but are you a pilot?”
He smirked. “I am! I fly for Yavin Airlines.”
You chuckled lightly. “I’m pretty sure I was on your flight from New York today.”
He chuckled back before he realized. “That’s right, you dropped your jacket.”
Your face completely heat up. Before you could reply to him, the sound of a door unlocking was heard.
“Everyone hide!” Poe whispered loud enough for everyone to hear. Chaos emerged as people quickly found a hiding place and Rey pulled you behind a wall.
Suddenly two men entered and everyone jumped to reveal themselves. “SURPRISE!”
“Shit!” One of the two men, who you assumed was Finn, yelped.
Everyone started laughing and wished Finn a happy birthday. You were introduced to Finn and Snap, who you also remembered was the co-pilot of your flight earlier, and then the party began.
You clung to Rey like a child since you didn’t really know anyone, her introducing you to her friends and coworkers. Rey and Finn were both technical engineers at a computer company called Resistance Tech, and they both attended the University of Miami as graduate students. You couldn’t help but wonder how an engineering student became roommates with a pilot, but you kept the question to yourself.
“So what made you want to move here?” Poe had approached you from behind and it made you jump. You turned to face him and were taken aback once again by his good looks.
“Oh..I..um...I just kinda got sick of the big city lifestyle.” You smiled softly.
He nodded. “I mean, you know Miami is kind of the same. Big city and all.” He teased.
You blushed. “Yeah, well, I just wanted to see what was so special about Miami. Rey loves it, so I wanted to try it.”
“Got it. Can I get you a drink?”
You spent the rest of the evening sitting on the couch talking to Poe. Your anxiety seemed to go away and your muscles weren’t as tense. He was really easy to talk to, and he was funny as hell. You learned that he was 26 and that he became a pilot when he was 22. You could tell that he loved flying just by the way he would talk about it, and it made you feel warm inside. It made you feel nice knowing that it was possible to feel joy. Something you had never really felt before.
“What about you? What do you do?” He took a sip of his beer.
Your smile faded. “Well, I just graduated from NYU with an English major. I don’t really know what I want to do yet.” Your hands played with your red solo cup you were holding.
“Well if you are looking for some part time work, my aunt owns a bookstore down by the beach. It’s good hours and decent pay. I can put in a good word for you if you’d like” He said.
Your eyes lit up with hope. “That would actually be really nice. Thank you.”
He smiled, “Of course.” He pulled out his phone before scrolling through it and handing it to you. “If you wanted to put your number...I’ll text you her information.”
You hesitated, gulping softly before taking his phone and typing your number. You had no reason to be afraid of Poe. He was sweet, already helping you find a job, wanting to get to know you instead of taking you straight to bed. This was new to you.
You handed it back to him with a thank you before Rey approached you. “Hey, Y/N, we should head out. Rose is-”
“Rose is fine!!” Rose was stumbling through the house, definitely wasted.
Rey rolled her eyes. “We should go before Rose barfs all over the carpet.”
You chuckled lightly before turning back to Poe and standing up. “Thank you again. It was really nice to meet you. I’ll see you around.”
He nodded, reaching out for another handshake, “You too, Y/N”.
You smiled at him before shaking his hand once again. You headed out, wishing Finn a happy birthday again, and then helping Rey put Rose in the car.
You left the party feeling way better than you had felt when you had arrived. You couldn’t help but keep a small smile on your face the whole ride home, even with Rey having to pull over to allow Rose to throw up.
Maybe there really is good in people. Maybe things would be okay after all.

Matchmaker
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Summary: Rossi had a feeling that Y/N and Reid were meant for each other.
I knew my daughter was attracted to Reid even before I knew of her paternity. There were glances that lasted a bit too long, shared coffee drinks when they thought others weren't looking, platonic dates that both said wouldn't go anywhere... If they thought they were kidding me, then they had another thing coming. Reid had it just as bad for my daughter.
Then I noticed that Reid started being depressed. “Hey, Reid, you okay?” I asked.
“Yeah...” After I glared at him, our resident genius shook his head. “Y/N’s boyfriend told her to break up our friendship. Rossi, I think he hits her. She won't listen to me anymore without making excuses for him.”
“I’d rather have you for a son in law.” I mumbled as I saw my daughter come in, wearing a turtleneck sweater. I quickly put a smile on my face. “Good morning mia figlia. Are we still on for tomorrow night?”
“Uh, no, dad... Archie and I decided to stay in.” Y/N mumbled. I blinked. This was unexpected. I’d never liked Archwell Garner. There was something about him that made me just as suspicious as I was with my stepdaughter’s former beau.
“Oh...” I said with disappointment clear in my voice. “Y/N, are you okay?” I asked.
“Fine...” she replied.
---
I knew I was lying to Dad by saying everything was fine but after Archie threatened Spencer's and Dad’s life if I did not resign from the Bureau yesterday, I decided to go through with it. If I could save Dad and Spencer, I’d have no regrets.
Okay, I'm aware that both are quite capable of protecting themselves, Spencer has an ankle holster for Pete's sake...but I've long since believed I've never been Spencer's match. Despite Penelope Garcia saying that Spencer and I were one of the BAU’s cutest couples, I've always felt that I wasn't good enough for the resident genius.
“You’ve been staring at that sentence for 15 minutes.” Spencer pointed out as I pulled out my resignation letter.
“I have something I need to talk to Prentiss about.” I said and got up.
“Hey, come over to my apartment after work. We still have the Tenth Doctor to finish.” Spencer invited as I started walking towards Emily’s office.
“I can't, Archie...” I tried to explain yet again to see Spencer roll his eyes.
“You deserve better!” Spencer called out. I wanted to ask him who he had in mind but buried that detail. Luckily, Emily was alone.
“Y/L/N, what's wrong?” Emily asked. I shut the door and closed the blinds.
“I need help, Emily. I can't tell Dad or Spence but Archie has demanded that I leave the Bureau. If I don't, he’ll kill them. Preferably in front of me.” Emily stared stonily at me, reminding me of her predecessor, Aaron Hotchner. “He’s also done this.” I roll down my turtleneck to reveal angry bruises just as I hear shouting from Spence and Luke. They were arguing with Archie.
“Stay here.” Emily said. ”Simmons, stay with her.” Matt nodded and did as Emily asked.
“I can't leave the Bureau.” I said to Matt.
“Nobody who's important is asking you to.” Matt replied. “In fact, I'm willing to bet that Reid will beg you to stay.”
“Yeah because I’m technically the only one aside from Luke and you that has any interest in his ramblings.” I muttered. I found them fascinating.
Emily came back into her office, Spencer right behind her, though he was heading to the conference room. “We have a case, you two.” Matt nodded. “Your issue has been dealt with but just to warn you, both Reid and your father want to speak with you.” she said. I knew what they'd say, so I just nodded.
---
I sat down in the back of the jet, hoping both my dad and Reid would leave me alone. No such luck. My dad sat down next to me. “Why didn't you tell me or Reid?” he asked. I frowned and folded my arms.
“Because he threatened both your lives. He even went into exact detail about how he’d kill Spencer.” I said.
“I hate not being able to protect you, Y/N. That's my job as your father and a job I would trust Reid with.”
“Dad, we're just friends.” I mumbled, just as Spencer craned his neck to look at me.
“Something tells me Reid didn't get the memo because as he told your new ex earlier, Don’t touch what's no longer yours.” my dad says. I blinked. “As to being just friends, Y/N, I don't think friends let friends drink from their coffee cup to try a new coffee flavor and they definitely do not look at said friend with love in their eyes, as in the way Reid is looking at you now.”
I look at Spencer in shock but he's already reading a book.
---
I wanted to kill Garcia for pairing me with Reid for room assignments. I wasn't ready to face him yet. “It was my idea.” Spencer said as he pulled a couple of books out of his go bag.
“Huh?” I asked.
“For us to be roommates.” he replied. I looked at him. “When I said that you deserved better, I meant it.” I tried to squash the hope that he’d choose me. We’d always been friends but I now realized that Archie had meant to destroy both the relationship I had with Spencer and my self esteem.
“Who’d you have in mind?” I asked, crossing my arms. He looked at me.
“How about me?” Spencer replied.
I shake my head. “I don't deserve you.” I mumble. “I’m not good enough for you.” Once again, Archie’s words from last night echoed in my mind when I had gathered the courage to tell him we were through.
‘Why would Noodle Man find you sexy when I don't? You can't give a decent blow job, you can’t satisfy me! I have to go pick up hookers to get off because you're so inadequate!’ ran through my head.
“Why don’t you let me decide who deserves me, hmm?” Spencer asked, sitting next to me. My heart raced as I realized Spencer was very close to me.  He gently cupped my face and kissed me passionately. When he pulled away, he said, “Take off your shirt. I want to see what he did to you.” I pulled off my shirt. Besides the ring of bruises gracing my neck, there were a few fresh welts on my back. Spencer thinned his lips in anger.
Embarrassed, I started putting it back on when Spencer took the shirt off and threw it across the room. “Spence?”
“He hurt you.” Spencer quietly seethed as he took me into his arms. “I should have been there to protect you!”
“You’re here now. Are you sure you want me?” Spencer nodded.
“You’ve had me since the first hello, Y/N.” Spencer said, which made me go scarlet from the memory. When we met, I had tripped and ended up with my face pressed against his crotch. I had bolted away, stuttering apologies.
“What if I can't satisfy you?”
“Straddle me.” Spencer said. I did and widened my eyes when I sat down on his growing bulge. “I go home every night hard as a rock because I have too many fantasies of you!”
"Why didn't you tell me?" I asked as he nuzzled my neck.
"I was going to but then you introduced Archie as your boyfriend and I thought I'd lost my chance." Spencer explained.
"You haven't." I said quietly as I nipped at his neck. "Why are you telling me this now?" Spencer blinked back tears.
"Because I love you and I can't stand the thought of you with someone else.” he said. He bit his lip. “Unless you don't feel th...
“Shut up and just fuck me, Spencer.” I growled, trying to create friction between us. “I’ve never wanted anyone else to fuck me this badly.” A smirk lifted Spencer's lips.
“Are you sure? Once we start, I might not be able to stop.” he whispered. I answered by grinding my hips against his. Then doubt took over. It must have showed on my face because Spencer stopped kissing me. “Sparkles, what's wrong?”
“I tried to leave Archie last night, Spence. He said, ‘who are you going to turn to when I'm not there? Noodle man? Why would he find you sexy when I don't? You can't give a decent blow job, you can’t satisfy me! I have to go pick up hookers to get off because you're so inadequate!’ What if I can't satisfy you?”
“He is a blind, moronic asshole who didn't appreciate what he had, Y/N!” Spencer exploded, then his expression softened. He bit his lip.
“I think, no...I know that I’m in love with you, and that scares the crap out of me.” I answered.
“Why?” Spencer asked.
“You’re my best friend. I don't want to lose you or that ever.” I said. His lips feathered over mine in a gentle, soft kiss.
“I want to build this onto our friendship.” Spencer admitted, resting his forehead against mine.
“Meaning you want me to pretend to be your wife?” I asked. I wasn't sure what he meant.
“Who said anything about pretending? Your father would prefer me as a son in law and we have dated.”
“Platonically, Spencer. Not romantically.” I corrected. Spencer smirked.
“Same difference.” he said dismissively. “So, would you prefer to become my wife before or after you carry my child?” he asked in my ear. I gasped in shock as he gently pushed me down onto the bed and captured my left nipple with his mouth. “Or during?” he said, taunting me.
“Spence...” I whimpered as he worked both nipples into tight peaks.
“I hope you know you’re mine forever.” Spencer murmured. “Do you like it when I touch you like that?” I nodded. He kissed my nose then continued southwards. “You’re so beautiful.”
“No I'm not.” I said. Spencer growled.
“Did he lead you to believe that? I've had countless hours of fantasies. Your breasts are the perfect size to fit into my palm. I love your curviness.” Spencer stroked my hip.
I was taken by surprise, when he moved lower, trailing kiss after kiss across my stomach, and then bent his head to my mound, pulling my legs up to rest on his shoulders. His fingers and tongue caressed me. “Spence...” I moaned.
“Archie doesn't know what he's talking about. I get satisfied just by pleasuring you. Fucker...” he mumbled. Between his tongue and the slow, gentle thrusts of two of his long, piano fingers within me, once in a while brushing across a part of me that made me thrust back, the pleasure seemed to make something wind up tightly inside of me.
"Spencer," I gasped, "I want you inside me, now." I'm sure that I meant it as an order, though it sounded more like a plea.
"You're sure?" he queried.
"Yes." he leaned over suddenly, reaching to open the bedside drawer. He groped for something for a moment, before pulling out a condom. "No." I said, shaking my head. He understood and put the condom back. It took a moment but he brought my sex to nearly meet his own. I rolled my hips, begging him to just hurry up, impatient to quell the fire burning within.
He had fumbled a bit, missing his mark twice before he slowly entered me. I loosely wrapped my legs around his waist as he began to thrust, slowly, with utmost care. One hand caressed my body, while the other cradled my head as he kissed my lips once more. I eagerly tasted the mix of my juices with the bittersweet flavor that was all Spencer.
He found that spot within me, easily rubbing against it with each thrust of our hips crashing against each other. We both worked into a frenzied pace, until finally that spring within me broke, unleashing wave after wave of euphoric pleasure while Spencer's thrusts continued, though now short and urgent. Suddenly he stilled, and I watched as every muscle tensed.
Still recovering from my own climax I could feel his throbbing length pulse as his own was met. I was, however, suddenly aware of my name being desperately muttered, and smiled in satisfaction.
“Spencer, I love you.” I murmured. Spencer kissed my lips.
“I love you too, Sparkles.” he said tiredly as he lay next to me in order to cuddle. “I love you so much.”
---
I would like to say that I was healed emotionally after that one lovemaking session with Reid but then I’d be lying. It took months for me to heal and I was grateful for Spencer’s steady and loving presence through it all.
Tonight, we were watching Doctor Who. Feeling bold, I let my fingertips caress the growing bulge in Spencer's boxers. “If I have to pause this episode, you won’t be able to walk for the next week.” Spencer murmured.
“You’re really bad at hiding how turned on you are.” I teased, loving how responsive he was as his bulge grew bigger under the gentle coaxing of my fingertips.
“Don’t start what you can’t finish.” Spencer said. Amused, I turned off the episode. “Hey!” Spencer exclaimed in protest.
“You’re so much fun to touch.” I purred, kissing Spencer. He smirked.
“I can’t wait to taste you.” Spencer whispered.
“Like what you see?” I said as I unbuttoned my shirt to reveal the sapphire colored bra I’d bought last week. He gulped.
“Very much so.” he murmured as he easily unhooked my bra with one hand. “You’re so perfect. And I’m so lucky.” he murmured as he nuzzled my breasts. I moaned as I felt his mouth envelop my nipple and work it into a tight peak. “Your breasts are so beautiful.” he said before switching nipples. “And so sensitive...”
“Spence…” I whined.
“Shhh.” he shushed me. He moved lower, trailing kiss after kiss across my stomach, and then bent his head to my mound, pulling my legs up to rest on his shoulders. His fingers and tongue caressed me.
"I have some new positions for us to try." I raise an eyebrow at him. "Lay down on your stomach." I did as he asked and he slid a couple of pillows underneath my pelvis, then slipped into me. "Close your legs a bit." He instructed me, which I did.
He found that spot within me, easily rubbing against it with each thrust of his hips crashing against my pelvis.
Suddenly he stilled. Still recovering from my climax, I could feel his throbbing length pulse as his own was met. "Spence?"
"Hm?" He sounded tired.
"That felt really good." I said quietly. "Again?"
"No, sleep, then later." He murmured, climbing into bed beside me. "Love you, Sparkles."
"I love you too." I replied as I snuggled into him.
---
(13 weeks since their first session)
I was mad. I couldn't get my pants up past my belly button, so I snagged one of Spencer's sweatpants in order to go see my doctor.
“Ms. Chambers, I have some good news.” the doctor announced after tests had been taken. “Congratulations, you're pregnant!” I blinked. I was stunned. Spencer and I hadn't discussed children yet.
And there was the matter of my father...

Tumblr media
“Do you ever think there could be other worlds besides ours?” your friend, Aila, asks while shoving a fistful of buttery popcorn in her mouth.
It was Movie Night in your shared apartment, and your friend and roommate, Aila’s, brilliant suggestion of Prometheus was gracing your T.V. screen. She loved movies about otherworldly creatures coming to Earth and especially loved when an invasion was involved. You often questioned her movie taste, and she would explain that she likes the idea of Earth “not being the only planet with viable and intelligent beings.” It sounded insane, but in some ways it made sense, you rationalized.
You shifted on the comfy couch to look towards her. While you didn’t necessarily refute the point, you couldn’t be sure that you could answer such a question or even know where to begin with an explanation.
“When I was younger,” you started, “my mom used to always tell me stories of this other world that had a garden.”
“Sounds fucking boring,” she retorted. You hit her shoulder and she winced in fake pain.
“Shut up. Like I was saying, before you so rudely interrupted, she would tell me stories of this place. The way she talked about the garden… it made it seem like it was real,” you smiled remembering. “She said that every flower in existence bloomed there, and that as soon as you entered, a wave of calmness immediately washed over your body. ‘A pure form of serenity,’ she said.”
“No offense but it sounds like that time I got high at the Botanical Gardens with Nico last summer,” she laughed and you shortly followed suit.
“Yeah, but she also talked about these beings that lived there. I think she said there were seven of them. She said that they looked like humans, but on a closer look, their beauty was too ethereal to be so,” you babbled.
Aila’s face contorted into confusion and wonder as you recalled the stories your mother told you at bedtime each night. The movie long forgotten, Aila inquired more and more about your beloved stories until the music signaling the end credits began to play. Aila stood up and began clearing the popcorn strays from the couch while you walked over to turn on the lights in the living room.
Your roommate let out a yawn paired with a sound that could easily be compared to a banshee, and let you know that she would be heading to sleep as she had work early in the morning. You nodded your head in acknowledgement and let her know that you would be staying a while in the living to catch up on a show you had been binge-watching that week. Her door to her room closed and you landed on your couch with a fwump!
“Finally I get to watch this damn show!” you exclaimed, reaching for the bucket of popcorn Aila left out for you. The intro to Elite started rolling, and you snuggled deeper into the worn-in couch. You let out a sigh of relaxation, allowing yourself to get immersed in the show.
Two episodes and about 3 hours later (you used one of the hours to mindlessly scroll through your social media), you decided, albeit belatedly, that you should head to bed due to work being in seven hours. Working in research wasn’t as taxing as you thought, but it still required you to be awake and not slobbering on a keyboard for eight hours, as great as it sounded.
You started to head toward your own room when you heard a thump against one of the doors in the small hallway where the doors leading to the bedrooms existed. You decided that you were more tired than you felt and thought the result was auditory hallucinations; however, as you got closer to the middle door between you and Aila’s bedroom, you heard it once again and this time louder.
“Aila, what the hell are you doing in there?” you called out but there was no response.
When you and Aila first toured the apartment, the middle door did not go unnoticed. When asked about the door and why it was locked, the landlord simply said that he bought it that way and never received a key. Many jokes were made in terms of what lie beyond the door; moreso by Aila and her extraterrestrial fantasies than you, but they induced plenty of laughs nonetheless.
The thumping occurred from the middle door again, and fear slowly crept into your veins making your body feel a rush of coolness in the process. You knew not to try to open the door, not that it was even possible, but you also knew that you wouldn’t be able to sleep with that incessant noise. You started banging on Aila’s door.
“Aila, girl, I KNOW you hear that noise. Hurry up and come out! I’m scared,” you whined, but she still didn’t reply. You knew Aila was a heavy sleeper, but damn was she sleeping deep if she couldn’t hear you.
You twisted the knob to her door and ran in expecting to see a lump on plump blankets in a human silhouette. Instead, you found her bed completely made, no human in sight. There was no way that Aila could have gone out the window, you guys were on the tenth floor. Things weren’t adding up, and you were on the verge of tears.
A morbid curiosity suffused throughout your being as you slowly began walking towards the middle door. The thumping got louder with each step you took, and at some point, you couldn’t distinguish between the pounding of your heart in your eardrums and the perpetual beat against the mahogany entrance. You reached the door, and your hand encased the golden knob. You noted that it felt warm for a door that had supposedly not been used for a lengthy amount of time. With a twist of the knob, you were shocked to hear a click indicated the outdated door had been unlocked. You stood there for what seemed like forever, an array of questions racing through your mind. You finally gathered what little courage you had left and swung the door open.
It was a bittersweet feeling when you listened to your mom. All those times when you wished you were spirited away from your life only to continue the mundane quickly taught you that stories were just stories. Myths were myths. Lies were lies. And gardens of every flower didn’t exist but in fairytales.
So why, beyond a mysterious door in a crappy apartment, are the most beautiful meadows of flowers swaying in the wind, dancing a dance of entrancement, almost as if they were personally inviting you inside? Your eyes glassed over as you tried to process the view. It was as if your eyes were stuck in their place.
You were frozen.
It wasn’t until you heard the door shut behind you that realized you had moved inside. Your eyes whipped back, but you found yourself staring at acres and acres of flowers, not a door in sight.
“Is there a reason you’re standing there like an idiot?” you heard a voice say.
When you turned around, your eyes met your best friend and roommate. She donned a sheer ivory dress with golden acacias adorning her bodice and train. The silk threads shone in the sun almost as if the dress had been sewn by the heavens themselves. Her skin was as smooth as glass and possessed a beautiful brown pigment with a hint of olive. Champagne glitter bedecked the areas around her eyes, and her hair was tied up in a braid full of a different selection of flowers. Her eyebrow was raised and her arms were across her chest. You could hear her foot tapping against the ground in irritation.
“Aila?” you whispered.
“Who?” she practically yelled, “That is not my name, nor has it ever been.”
You blushed, “then who are you?”
“Who am I?” she scoffed, “More like who are you? You’re the one who stood in the middle of the meadow as if you were waiting for someone to check you into a hotel.”
Her tone was pissing you off, and if you had felt more comfortable in this situation, you would have told her exactly where she could have put it. Instead, you were too busy trying to figure out whether or not Aila put something in her popcorn.
“I’m Y/N, and I don’t even know where I am or how I even got here,” you choked.
The girl gave you a look then closed her eyes and sighed. She turned on her heel and began walking in the opposite direction without saying another word. Your eyebrows furrowed and your temper threatened to lose itself, but when she found that your footsteps were nowhere to be heard, she stopped in her tracks.
“Are you coming or what?” she bleated. You nodded slightly and began walking quickly to catch up with her.
You walked beside her for what seemed like forever, not sharing one word between each other, so you decided to take in your surroundings.
You could see the flowers, yes, but you also saw little creatures you had never seen before participating in different tasks. Some were watering sections of plants, some were flitting and flying, sprinkling an unknown substance from the air that shone like diamonds, and some were simply laying down and napping in the sun. You walked further and found little manmade living spaces made from materials like twigs and leaves, and silently thought how adorable it all was. Just when you were counting your hundredth house, the girl suddenly stopped.
“We’re here,” she stated.
In front of you, seven paths diverged and outstretched throughout the pasture. Each one looked uniform at first glance, but the longer you looked, the more you could see the slight differences. With your lips slightly parted, you turned back towards the girl, however, the space she occupied was now taken up by a lanky, ginger, cat-like entity licking its paw.
“What?” it spoke with the girl’s voice.
You jumped back slightly but a calm hushed your body. You took a deep breath.
“What am I supposed to do now?” you asked.
“What do you normally do when you see multiple paths?” she snickered, continuing to lick her paw. You stayed silent and looked towards her. She stopped licking and instead arched her back gracefully.
“Choose.”

Did you slip in through open doors and sit down, just to look at me like that (every day)
Brienne doesn't mean to lie to her father. She just wants him to stop trying to set her up with men who aren't Jaime Lannister, whom she's secretly in love with. Unfortunately, that's exactly who eagerly inserts himself in the narrative as her fake boyfriend. And her father is coming to King's Landing in two weeks.
Truly, what could go wrong?
Also on AO3. Part of @jbmonthlymadness Mutual Pining challenge.
It starts like most lies and life changing avalanches - quite innocently.
Brienne is sitting on a couch in the living room, a sports game playing on the screen mutely while she chats with her father over a videocall. Jaime is puttering around in the kitchen, preparing snacks for the movie they’re planning to watch after the game ends and all things considered, it’s a lot like most of her Sunday nights.
Except her dad had left the matter of dating alone for a few good months and she definitely isn’t overjoyed by the theme's revival. “Brienne, he really likes your work and I think there’d be no harm meeting him for a coffee after the convention.”
“Dad, no. Thank you, but no.” She shifts uncomfortably, considers calling Jaime over because the movie is ‘starting’, so she can end the call early.
“I know you think you don’t need relationships and maybe you don’t need them, but I just think you deserve to have someone who loves and respects you, admires you and what you do,” her dad says and she can feel the well-intended love warming her all the way from Tarth. She longs for a huge beach umbrella to hide under. “And that’s exactly what my friends do,” she says, firmly, and the knowledge it’s true fills her chest. She cannot entirely blame her father’s worry - the girl that had left Tarth would not have been able to imagine or believe the group of people that surround her nowadays, either. The warmth, support and sometimes the absolute nonsense she has found with them still feels almost unreal at times.
Her dad sighs, brows furrowing with soft concern in a way that makes her feel guilty somehow. “You know what I mean, Starlight. You don’t have to keep seeing him, but won’t you consider at least one meeting?”
And this is when the most horrible, most escapist idea bounces off her tongue, bypassing her brain entirely. “It wouldn’t be fair to the man, because I just started seeing someone, dad.”
The silence following is no longer than a blink, but she feels as if it has turned into the time stretch she is going to need to hurriedly pack her bags, go to the airport and leave for Pentos, never to return again. She has lied to her father only a handful of times, and though he only found out once (when she had lied about why she had broken Connigton’s nose), this one is ancient parchment thin because she has no followup whatsoever.
“Really? Who is it?” Selwyn leans closer to the phone, an exact mix of disbelief and excitement such a statement would call for. Her stomach is both knotted up and rolling around, as if looking for an escape route.
“Yes,” she responds, turning to call for Jaime for some chips in a horrible attempt to bargain for time to use lost Asshai magics to summon a person who doesn’t exist.
Except her roommate is already standing behind the couch, plate of snacks in his hand and grin on his face. He swoops down, propping his chin on her shoulder and she can feel the heat radiating from his brilliant smile as he says: “It’s me.”
Her stomach finds a trap door and falls straight into the abyss.
Her dad’s eyebrows shoot up and this time, he leans back, as if to inspect the picture they both paint, squished in the tiny frame of her camera. She can feel he finds it unconvincing. So she does the only reasonable thing: turns her head and presses a brief kiss to the corner of Jaime’s mouth.
“Yes,” Brienne says for the second time that night and it feels just as condemning. Her lips are still burning.
“I finally gathered my courage and confessed to her recently, but I am still in the process of convincing her of the endless depth of my devotion, hence her hesitancy to mention it immediately, Mr. Tarth.”
He sounds so perfectly boy-next-door, sweet and respectful, all the things she knows he is not (at least the respectful part), but Jaime’s always liked her father and been an excellent actor. It’s rare when he uses the skill to look like anything else than an utter asshole, though, so in any other situation she’d marvel at the sight. But she can’t, her mind exists only to force her lips into, hopefully, a natural smile and a nod in the direction of her father.
“Well, that’s great news! I was wondering if you’d ever get to it,” her dad grins and she almost asks him to repeat it, because it makes no sense , but he isn’t done talking yet. “I will see you two after the convention, then? I look forward to your lecture, Starlight. And the whole story of how the two of you got together.”
She nods dumbly, exchanges good night wishes with her dad (accompanied by “Good night, Mr. Tarth!” in sing-song voice) and then ends the call. The relief doesn’t set in, like Brienne had hoped.
Jaime plops down next to her, looking completely unbothered as he turns the volume back up. The movie is about to start, but she has about a million questions, for herself and more importantly - for Jaime.
“Why did you do that?”
“Well, I couldn’t let your lie fall apart the minute you said it. That’s not what friends do.” He stresses the word strangely, with almost a brittle edge, but Brienne is not equipped to decipher it right now.
“But now we will have to pretend to be dating and if we fake a breakup, how will we explain you still live with me?”
“You haven’t been dating me for a month and already think about breaking up? I will do a better job now that I am aware of it,” he grins, easy and bright, like he has just discovered their favorite childhood cartoon Blue Knight is having a rerun on Saturday mornings, instead of making light of a new and nerve wrecking variable of their lives.
Instead of processing any of it, Brienne punches his shoulder slightly, at which he groans in an exaggerated manner. “I never agreed to being manhandled outside the bedroom.”
Her brain, thoroughly deep fried by the events of tonight, pulls itself together in that moment to create a vivid image of Jaime being manhandled in the bedroom. Briene inhales sharply, but somehow manages to turn exhale into something else than an eager noise.
Before her brain decides to cope by making the image into a clip, she focuses on the real matter at hand. “Jaime, this is serious . We just lied to my father and now we will have to pretend to be dating indefinitely, unless we have a faux amicable breakup, because I don’t want to pretend you’re not my friend for the rest of my life.” Somewhere in the abyss, her stomach convulses at the thought.
At this, he turns to face her, more serious, but with last remnants of playful grin gilding his words. “So, it was a little spontaneous, but you were about to invent a man who’d always be away on business trips and ask Sansa photoshop fake couple photos, weren’t you?” Brienne bristles, but can’t say no , when it had been one of the panicked thoughts running headfirst in the side of her skull.
He leans in, arm that has been resting on the back of couch coming to wrap around her shoulder and pull her closer and last vestiges of lighthearted grin turn into something she doesn’t quite have the words for, as his teeth sink in his bottom lip just so and his eyes look darker and wilder than any forest she’s ever known. “Believe me, I will be way more convincing .”
Brienne has to bite the inside of her cheek to not blurt out that’s one of the things I’m afraid of . How is she supposed to walk through this unscatched when his well-meant game and her own yearnings will cut her into like fine silver wire?
He seems to take her silence as agreement and backs off a little, giving her shoulder a reassuring squeeze. “We will figure it out, B. War council tomorrow. But for now, let’s just watch the movie, okay?”
His gaze is warm now, like a lovely summer day in shade, and she is comforted by it enough to agree. But not enough to actually be able to focus on the movie instead of replaying tonight’s events in her mind, asking herself again and again why she had lied. Jaime chastises her for it a few times and seems to gradually grow tenser, too, until they call it a night earlier than they normally would.
“Don’t worry about it too much and just sleep,” he tells her for good night and his concern drops a ladder in the bottomless pit where her stomach still resides, while his smile sheds some light in it.
And when Brienne curls up in her bed a little later, she knows she lied because she does feel taken, if only in her heart. She’s in love with Jaime, has been for a long time now. It’s never been something to really think about, just a fact that sometimes fills her with glow and pinpricks of yearning when she wonders just how the lines of their friendship would blur into something more if it were possible.
Except now she will have to walk the line between pretense and her secret fantasy without revealing it.
She is so, so fucked.

"What is it?"
Steve didn’t drift his view from the road ahead to respond to his friend’s question. They had spent the majority of the trip so far in utter silence, ever since Steve picked Sam up from the airport, which led both of them to believe there was an elephant in the room; weirdly so, they weren’t too sure about what the elephant represented. Most of the chat had happened during the time Steve helped Sam put his luggage in the trunk, and it had consisted of an overwhelmingly casual conversation.
"What?" Steve directed the reply to Sam, who sat on the co-driver’s seat, but focused on driving.
"Whatever you're thinking about.” Sam insisted, not buying Steve’s innocent attitude, “Spit it out."
The blonde shrugged, "I'm not thinking anything."
"Bull."
"Seriously, my mind is blank."
There was a hint of amusement slowly escaping Steve’s tone, and it only exasperated Sam even further.
"Minds are never blank." Sam followed his lead.
"I thought that was the whole point of meditating."
"You meditate?" he raised his eyebrows with skepticism.
"Nah.” Steve finally dropped the act with a smile, “Buck tried to get me to do yoga once, but it wasn't my thing."
There it was. The elephant in the room was Bucky. Steve must have figured it out, or maybe taken a guess, putting two and two together. Maybe Bucky had been the one to speak out about the whole situation, but Sam doubted it. All he knew was Steve wasn’t stupid, so he knew the pair had fought or had gotten themselves into an impasse. The silence that the mere mention of Bucky’s name brought upon the men sitting in that moving car was more than enough proof.
"At least say something, I'm not spending half an hour in silence.” Sam brushed it off, letting the excess of air in his tense lungs seep through his nose, “Tell me anything. How's work?"
"We spoke last week, Sam, you know all about work.” Steve was practically begging Sam to be honest as he tapped the wheel with his thumb, impatiently; unfortunately, he knew better than push Sam when he clearly didn’t want to break character, “I'm just glad you're back in town, 's all. Your mom really needs you tomorrow."
Sam looked down and nodded, "Yeah, I know."
In the time Darlene had spent as a widow, she had contacted his son many times, which only added to Sam’s guilt for leaving her so violently soon after Paul’s death. They both knew each other well enough to understand Sam’s reasons, though, and Darlene had never been a dependent woman. That didn’t mean, however, that she didn’t need her son. She just didn’t like admitting it so he wouldn’t worry, but that ship had sailed long ago. This time around, Sam’s bag was bigger. He was staying as long as he needed to.
"And I know last time was tough- I'm not asking.” Steve made sure to let Sam know he wasn’t prying, after all, “But maybe it'll be better this time around."
The occasion sort of sounded like a second funeral. And somehow, it kind of was. A month had passed, and Sam had left things like they were before. Both his mother and Bucky, abandoned. He couldn’t exactly expect the overall experience to be any better.
"How much can change in a month?"
Steve gave him a flash look, checking his expression.
"Let's hope something has." He tried to transmit his friend some optimism.
Sam checked his phone again, taking another look at the picture his mom had sent him. It was of a panel outside the church, and it read ‘Service in memory of Minister Paul Wilson, Sunday 10am’ along with a picture of the deceased. Below the information, a message in cursive: ‘One month without his wise words.’ Sam locked his phone with a sigh.
"So..." He put the device away, gathering a bit of courage, "How's, uh... how's Barnes?"
Steve glanced at him, again, this time with a much tentative expression, for he had some hope that maybe he’d get the truth out of Sam.
"He's fine. Why?"
Sam simply looked out the window before responding, "I may or may not have been a jerk last time."
Steve nodded, hiding his joy over such a small confession.
"You guys argued or...?"
"No, nothing like that. It's- it's nothing, really."
Of course, Sam took it all back, along with Steve’s hope to be in on the gossip, and so the latter gave up on his tact. He had enough of pretending not to know, and therefore, allowed his amusement ooze out of him. He shook his head as a soft chuckle made Sam frown.
"I'm sorry." He said, although he wasn’t really sorry.
"What's so funny?" Sam became defensive.
"You two are terrible liars, I don't know how you managed to stay in the closet for so long."
The last bit hit Wilson like a frying pan in the face, and all he could do was blink fast, trying to think of whatever other thing Steve could have meant by it.
"What are you talking about?" he pledged innocence to the matter.
"Come on, I know you two had something last month.” Rogers dropped the bomb with no caution whatsoever, “Was kind of expecting it, to be honest, I just can't believe you're hiding it from me again."
Sam was perplex. He opened his mouth, only to close it back, and when the offense surpassed the shock, he raised his voice at his best friend.
"You knew?"
"That you hooked up in high school?” Steve raised his eyebrows, as if he couldn’t even believe Sam never suspected it; he couldn’t possibly think he was so naïve, “Of course I knew!"
"Are you kidding me? We went the extra mile to keep you out of it for a full year, Rogers."
That last sentence brought back the laughter to Steve’s body, "I know, talk about a waste of time and effort." He chuckled.
"Jesus. We thought you'd freak out, and... I don’t know, we were kids! It seemed like something we needed to keep from you.” Sam let his head fall and caught his forehead in his hand, defeated, “Why didn't you say anything?"
Eventually, Steve quit the mocking and gave Sam some slack.
"I didn't wanna out you guys or anything.” He confessed, tilting his head, “To be honest, I totally forgot for a few years."
Sam nodded, "I think we did too."
Steve offered a grin Sam missed because he felt more comfortable looking anywhere but towards Steve. He knew Steve was being the most empathic and considerate friend anyone could ever ask for, and it only added to his already asphyxiating guilt.
"So, you two clicked again and you bolted?" Steve took his not-so-lucky guess, and got a shameful nod out of Sam, "Now he's mad and, let me guess, he won't return your calls."
Rogers knew Bucky to be a master when it came to avoiding conflicts; he didn’t know Sam to be one, though. Which is why the fact that Sam had disappeared from town without notice had led him to jump into conclusions, because he had to have a strong enough reason. The death of his father, plus his high school crush falling back into his arms, the latter representing the overwhelming reminder that Sam never came out to the right people? Those were more than perfect reasons to bolt.
"Yeah. I... he's too good.” Sam began the self-loathing parade Steve didn’t expect to be hearing from this friend, “He shouldn't waste his time with me."
"That's definitely not how he feels about himself.” He informed Sam, thinking how the ‘unworthy speech’ sounded more like something Bucky would say; Wilson looked at him, eager for answers, “You like him?"
"Yeah.” Sam let out a painful puff of air, “Yeah, but-"
"Then show him.” Steve raised his tone into a motivational one, “Go the extra mile to let him know you're sorry, and that you care about him."
Sam agreed, but remained silent. Steve was right, and he didn’t want to give the wise man all the credit. In fact, he gave Rogers an odd look.
"You're too excited for this."
"I am." Steve admitted shamefully, but planting a big smile on his face, "Feels like high school again."
For the first time, Sam interpreted that sentence in the best possible way.
-
Late at night, Bucky was boringly scrolling through social media, when he received a text from Sam. Another one. This time, however, his presence felt more imminent. He figured Sam wasn’t in DC anymore, as it was the night before the service, and when he opened the text, he confirmed it.
I'm back in town, got here a few hours ago. Maybe we could meet up? I really wanna talk to you in person.
As he ignored the message and left the phone on the coffee table, making a rather loud sound for such a delicate device, Wanda was coming through the door with two paper bags.
"I got Chinese!" she announced.
"Course you did." Bucky sat back with a sigh.
Wanda dropped the packed food on the counter and approached Bucky with a challenging look.
"If that's an insult to my culinary taste, I'm not offended. But you should know you offend the Chinese community." She accused the man.
"Yeah, ‘cause that was cooked by a Chinese person." Barnes tilted his head, sarcasm thick on his voice.
"You don't know that!" she defended herself as she plopped down next to him on the couch.
She noticed the phone and noticed how unnatural the set-up seemed, which could only mean Bucky was avoiding something on the device; it wasn’t too difficult to guess, for he had been ghosting the same person for an entire month.
“Are we still ignoring him?” she asked, including herself in the decision.
Bucky pursed his lips and nodded, fixating his sight on a random spot, “He’s back in town.”
Wanda bit the inside of her cheek, pensive, before turning to his roommate.
“I have a question… Are you sure you don’t wanna give him a second chance? Or is it just your hurt pride making decisions?”
“Both.” He spat without thinking, and then decided to dignify the woman with a proper answer, “I don’t know. I just… I don’t wanna listen if all he has to say is that he doesn’t, you know…”
“In my experience, guys don’t blow up your phone when they just want to explain their lack of interest. Maybe he made a mistake, dude, maybe he wants to win you back.”
“Or maybe, he needs to tell me how much he cares before explaining why he can’t be with me.” Barnes said what he had been thinking all throughout the past weeks, “That’s Sam. I’m pretty sure he wants to make sure not to hurt my feelings and that sort of crap.”
Wanda wanted to comment on his pessimism, but she figured it was simply coming from a place of ‘I care about him too much to see him reject me’. And if that wasn’t the oddest thing she’d seen in Bucky, nothing would be.
“God, it’s weird when you’re in love.” She scrunched her nose.
“I’m not in love.” Bucky rolled his eyes before standing up from the interrogation couch.
“Where you ever?” she was quick to ask, which made Bucky stop in his tracks, “When you were kids?”
He reflected on it, but shook his head, “Nah, I don’t think so. We had fun, though.”
That answer alone helped Wanda paint the picture of the two boys, running around finding an isolated space where to hookup, before returning to their friends like nothing had happened. She imagined them laughing, and being nice to each other; Bucky, who wasn’t necessarily the nicest person alive.
“You were good friends.” She smiled, almost proud of her roommate for some reason.
“Yeah, we were.” He admitted, a smile of his own sneaking in through his features; suddenly, the realization that he owed Sam something because of all those years of friendship hit him like a truck, “Fuck, I hate you.” He groaned, heading to his room.
“What did I do?” Wanda jumped to her defense.
“Now I have to go to the service.”
-
Inside the church, Bucky nervously fixed his tie while he watched Sam hold hands with his mother. The woman kissed her son’s cheek before she sat down in the front row, Sam turning to check if there were anything or anyone else he needed to attend to. He had been doing the social effort he despised all morning, as if he was trying to make up for being a lousy griever during the funeral. Truth was, Sam figured he could do those extra little sacrifices if it meant his mama would remain peaceful.
When his eyes found Bucky, Samuel’s body came to a halt. Bucky, having stood in that position preparing for that moment for the past minutes, managed to greet him with a simple nod, barely. As soon as Sam moved in his direction, he began regretting even showing up. But as much as he wished to be able to run away, he forced his muscles to remain still.
"Hey.” Sam offered him a mild smile of politeness when he stood in front of Bucky, “Wanna talk?"
The appellee bit the inside of his cheek, finding himself incapable of lying to Sam.
"Not really." He admitted.
The dryness of the reply was not what Sam had been expecting. Those two words took him by surprise, but he understood where they came from, so he attempted to convince him nevertheless. He showed him an awkward smile, one that yelled embarrassment.
"That's, uh... fair. That's fair.” He indulged Bucky, “I just- I've been trying to reach you for a month, Buck. Been texting, calling-"
"I know.” Barnes didn’t need to hear the entire list of ways he had ghosted Sam, “I got them."
"I'm not asking for you to be nice or anything, I just want you to talk to me.” Sam’s tone lowered to a much more serious and confident one, “Please."
Noticing the sudden switch of approach, Bucky felt he at least owed him a chance to speak his truth. Even if all Sam had to say were excuses. So he gestured to the exit with a tilt of his head, implying for Sam to follow him. As soon as they both stood on the side of the stairs, and away from everyone else, Bucky slid his hands inside his pocket, preparing for the speech he feared he would dread.
"You can talk." He gave Sam the room to express whatever he had to express, this time with a smaller voice.
It broke a little piece inside Sam’s chest to see Bucky like that. Not just upset, but sad. He almost didn’t want to do this, because Bucky looked like he was preparing to have a bomb dropped on him. Yet he desperately needed to apologize and he desperately needed to try one more time, therefore he stood up straight, head up high, and let it all out.
"I messed up.” The words were expulsed with heaviness, making Bucky glance up at him, “Big time. I really, really like you, and...” He shrugged, failing to keep the continuous confidence, while Bucky fought back a frown that threatened to take over his features, “I don't know, it felt like we were on the same page, right?"
"But we weren't. That's why you left.” Bucky interrupted, “Still, you could've been less of a dick about it.”
"I agree."
"Which part?"
"Last part.” Sam jumped to make that point come across clearly; he definitely cared for Bucky just as much as Bucky cared for him, if not more, “Definitely last part, I- I was a dick. But I didn't mean to, and it didn't mean what you think it meant."
Finally convinced, Bucky didn’t use the gap of silence Sam offered him. He didn’t say a word, meaning he was willing to listen, which gave both of them a spark of hope. Sam seized the opportunity to spill everything out before they had to go back inside.
"You were the best thing that could've happened when I came back. You still are, Bucky. And this is probably the worst time to be doing this, but can we please meet up after the memorial? We can talk things through, you can... curse me out if you wanna. I just need the proper time to apologize. Because I really am incredibly sorry."
-
As the service approached its start and everyone found their seats, Darlene stopped Steve and his mother Sarah from sitting behind her.
“Oh, darling, come sit here with us.” She told the Rogers, speaking directly to her friend Sarah.
“Are you sure?” the woman asked.
“Yes, yes.” Darlene gestured quickly, then addressed the man that seemed to spare, “James, you too. Sammy should have his friends with him.”
As much as Bucky eyes Sam in search for an exit, for Sam to find an excuse, none of them seemed to have much of a choice. The three guests joined the grieving family on the front row, Sam remaining on the last end, sticking with his mother.
Not minutes after the priest started speaking, Darlene was a crying mess. Sam remembered what his old-fashioned father said about handkerchiefs and regretted not carrying one for his mother, but she had prepared for this day by bringing a box of tissues in her oversized purse, so Sam merely squeezed her hand for support. The problem was, when the priest announced they would be reading Paul’s favorite poems, and the first one just so happened to be about the relationship between a father and a son. Two verses later, Sam felt it coming. Something snapped inside of him, perhaps the fact that everyone in that church was thinking of Sam and Paul’s bond, or maybe all the crying he hadn’t done in a month hit him like a wave, but the result was simple; Sam couldn’t fight the sentiment.
The tears claimed him and he let it happen, wet face and snotty nose and all. He stopped listening to the poem and instead remembered how Paul always told him it was okay to cry, which brought Sam the much needed peace he required in that moment, because he figures the entire church was quietly pitying him. He could feel a hundred eyes burning the back of his head as he shut his eyes and a grimace invaded his features.
All of a sudden, the funniest thought crossed his mind and a smirk overtook him. Paul always told him it was okay to cry. Soon enough, that smirk became a concealed chuckle, which quickly escalated into a full-on laugh. Sam thought he might sound insane to the rest of the attendants, but he couldn’t stop thinking about the irony of it all. Eventually, Darlene inclined to check up on her seemingly crazy son.
"Sorry, it’s just… Dad always said I should express my feelings more.” Sam whispered, trying to keep the laugh in but failing, “He'd do anything to get me to open up and... show emotion.” The last few words caused a wave of chuckles to erupt on his chest, getting even more attention from everyone else, “If you told him I would do it in his church for his memorial, in front of his entire congregation...”
When Sam looked up, he saw his mother cracking up along with him, tears of joy mixing with the former tears of sadness, and with a sense of calm, Sam shook his head amusingly.
"He'd curse me out.”
Darlene sniffed before speaking with regained composure, “Paul never cursed in front of you.”
That made Sam lose it. He didn’t even know if he was snorting or laughing by now.
“I know, he said- he said he was saving it for a special time.”
As the sentence gained a similar reaction from Steve, Sarah and Bucky, mother and son noticed the entire first row could hear them perfectly. Sam’s eyes naturally travelled to find Bucky, who flaunted a big smile. Bucky always knew it would be Sam to hold the proud title of the perpetrator of a rare funeral chuckle. He never lost hope.

Sam was opening his car door, out in the parking lot behind the church, when Bucky came out of nowhere. Sam’s muscles tensed as he knew for a fact he was only there to talk, while Bucky looked around to make sure they didn’t have any public. He didn’t give Sam any time to prepare before he started rambling.
"I shouldn't have ignored you.” He spat out, more sure of himself than Sam had seen him in a while, “I should've listened, and I'm sorry.”
A sigh left Sam’s chest. He didn’t think it was Bucky who should be apologizing, but that only meant the latter had already forgiven him. Still, he felt the guilty need to step in while he leaned back on the carhood.
“Bucky, I-“
“I don’t care.” Barnes stepped closer, “As long as you forgive me too, I’m good.”
The instant Bucky finished his micro speech, he sprinted to grab Sam’s face and press his lips against him. It pushed Sam’s body slightly so that they were both pressing against the car, and although Sam was fairly shocked, he gave into the kiss completely, at the last seconds. When Bucky stepped back, waiting to see Sam’s reaction, tentatively, he was met with flushed cheeks and embarrassment.
Sam looked around, which made Bucky realize that he was expecting people, and therefore, right now they did have a public. Darlene, Steve and his mother were standing there with triumphant grins and smirks. Bucky ran a hand through his hair, quickly losing his previous confidence.
"Shit." He let out with a nervous laugh.
Sam laughed back, “It’s okay, they’re nosy people, you’re giving them a show.” He directed the insult to the three spectators.
“Do you guys need a minute?” Steve stepped in.
Sam nodded. “Yes, a minute would be nice.”

Sam was finishing writing in his journal, when the doorbell rang.
Bucky had suggested the idea of a journal, for Sam to write down his feelings of grief, and it definitely was helping with the young man’s epiphanies. Today’s page began with a mention of how easy it had been to adapt to his hometown the past few weeks. Sam wrote about his mother, and how she didn’t let her grief take her down, but actually played the widow part like a champ. He also wrote about Bucky, and how patient he was with Sam’s feelings, and how he himself was ready to hold Bucky’s hand in public. The page ended in a meaningful paragraph:
I haven’t felt like I deserved to mourn him, because I kept focusing about everything I didn’t get to do with him. I wish I’d had the courage, because Paul Wilson always taught me to be brave, and I just feel like I let him down. But then mama, the person who knew him better than he knew himself, reminded me of something: he was the single most empathic person in the world, and he never judged a person who came to him. He would have welcomed me with any problem or confession, and that’s what I want to remember. His memory, to me, is one of a kind man who was always there for me, even if I didn’t seek his help.
“Sammy, the Barnes boy’s here for you!” Darlene called up.
Sam walked down the stairs and rolled his eyes when he was sure his mother could see him.
“We’re not fifteen, mama.” He mocked her choice of words.
Bucky, on his part, was standing on the doorstep with a frown, “Was I supposed to bring flowers?”
“Only if you wanna stay for dinner.” Sam warned him while putting on a coat.
“I do want to stay for dinner.” Bucky said just to mess with Sam, but gave Darlene a look that meant he was serious, “Thank you, ma’am.”
“Anytime, love.” She gave him a graceful nod.
“We’re leaving.” Sam groaned before shutting the door behind him.
Bucky gave him a peck on his temple before they started walking down the street. It would be a short walk to the coffee shop, but it gave Sam enough time to hold Bucky’s hand. With some real courage and gathered enthusiasm, Sam found Bucky’s gloved hand. He sloppily reached for his fingers, and received some help from Bucky, who looked down with a smile when their hands were completely intertwined.
They fell into comfortable silence, until Sam remembered a topic of conversation they had left behind.
“What did Wanda say about the charity work?” he asked like he’d forgotten something important, “Is she in?”
Bucky’s roommate had agreed to help the Wilsons with some church work Sam had taken over, including donation events and organization. The young woman had already made a bunch of jokes about not being able to step foot in a Christian church.
“Yeah, she said she could betray her Jewish ancestors for a few days.” Bucky replied, raising his eyebrows at the memory of her dramatization, “Said if I’d done it, so could she.”
“Yeah, but you went there to score a real handsome guy.” Sam joked.
Bucky smiled and stopped in order to find Sam’s face and cup it, “And what could be more godly than that?”
The couple joined in a kiss, there in the middle of the street, and although it wasn’t a very populated one, it proved their willingness to step into the spotlight. They didn’t want to be a secret anymore. When they broke the kiss, Sam gave Bucky’s hand a little squeeze, and they continued walking.
“I’m happy, Bucky.” Sam confessed out of the blue.
It brought a confused smile to Bucky’s face, “Well, I’m glad.” He said, unsure.
“No, I mean I’m happy here. I’m not going back to DC.” He announced with such tranquility, it made Bucky’s gut do a full twist, “That job you mentioned downtown? I’m taking it.”
Bucky’s heart warmed to the idea, because he would have followed Sam to DC if he had asked him, but instead, Sam decided to stay, and there was something very beautiful about that choice.
“You’re gonna have to stay with your mom.” Bucky reminded him of the downside, like he wasn’t as thrilled as anyone could ever be.
“Yeah, for a while.” Sam shrugged, “She’s partly the reason I want to stay, you know.”
Bucky nodded, keeping a big happy grin concealed.
“What’s the other reason?”
“Just this guy.” He followed along.
“Really, what’s he like?”
“Kinda cute. He betrayed his ancestors for me a bunch of times.”
“Shut up.” Bucky rolled his eyes as he reached for Sam’s sweater and pulled him in for a kiss.
For a long time, Sam had avoided his hometown. He had avoided the people from his childhood, he had avoided his relationship with his parents, and so much more that now seemed indispensable. Not only had he found Bucky, but he felt like he was finally where he belonged. He felt like Bucky was the only person who knew him entirely growing up, and somehow, they both needed each other to be reminded of themselves.
Holding Bucky’s hand, walking down his childhood street where they both would sneak through at night during their teenage years, he felt home. And he planned on keeping that feeling for a long, long time.
