i have recently become obsessed with understanding Teena Mulder and her part of the story. Not that CC et all gave us very much to work with for her, but her story is deeply fascinating and horrifying. It's especially interesting to me to try to see the ways she would and wouldn't have agency once she was trapped in Bill Mulder's world, what were choices or rebellions or willing consorting, what was the result of fear and blackmail and situational paralysis.

What if Baby Reader (Rhaenyra's child) takes the blame for Aemond's mutilated eye? Lucerys was the one who took the eye, yes, but Baby Reader got in the middle of the fight to separate her/his brothers and her/his uncles. So when the fight ends and everyone is looking for a guilty, reader tell Luke and Jace not to say anything (and both obey their older sibling), Reader takes the blame and says that he mutilated Aemond in self-defense, He is very sorry and that he has no problem being punished
Years later, Aemond thinks that Reader claimed him as his (never mind the genre of Baby Reader) the moment he removed his eye and is even more obsessed with Reader than before
"It all happened so fast and the Bby!Reader wasn't thinking clearly. They was just trying to protect they younger brother and it was all an unfortunate accident."
That's the story they tell when asked what happened to Aemond's eye.
To be honest, Aemond wasn't paying much attention during the fight. He was so focused on just trying to hurt his nephews that he only realized he had lost his eye when he was stabbed. He didn't pay attention to the culprit and so he didn't accuse Luke of maiming him.
When Bby!Reader took the blame for Aemond's eye, everyone was shocked. No one would ever think they'd have the nerve to do that, not when they so clearly adored Aemond. Then why?
Alicent was torn, part of her wanted revenge for her son's eye but she would never dare harm Bby!Reader, not only because of her own obsession with them but also because of the rest of the family. Instead, she blamed the Velaryon's brothers, even if she didn't say it aloud, she blamed them for Bby!Reader's corruption and none of this would have happened if they just stayed away from the Reader.
At one point, she even blames Rhaenyra.
Bby!Reader says it's okay to be punished, but nobody really wants to do that. Everyone seems too disturbed by the events of that night, so they decide to forget about it. Pretend nothing happened.
That it all just happened because Bby!Reader is such a good sibiling that they decided to risk being severely punished just to protect they brothers and cousins. That they hurt Aemond out of family loyalty was, for them, admirable.
Lucerys felt very guilty that his sibiling had taken the blame, but he couldn't bring himself to tell the truth. And he knew that Bby!Reader would never allow that. Everyone agreed to just forgive this incident, Aemond forgave Bby!Reader and hugged them, in the form of forgiveness.
Aemond always felt entitled to Bby!Reader and, I can see, that after he was "maimed by the Reader" he would feel even more so. The Reader took something from him, which to him means he's been claimed by Bby!Reader. Years ago, long before the War, he had already been chosen as the Reader's partner and he knew it was true.
That they belong to each other.
Aemond will definitely want something in return for the lost eye. Bby!Reader became his from the moment they plucked his eye out, it's only fair that he pluck something out of them too.
Maybe... Just maybe an eye... As a sick way to prove a union, a marriage... Bby!Reader will have a rough time with Aemond, but very romantic in his own way.

His sister...
Larissa x normie! fem! reader
OKAY this is the second time I post it bcz... well that was a wip and I posted it... I hate myself right now. Anyway I have to re-wright it. All of it. But that's okay :) (no that's not I wanna end myself)
Warnings : smut (that's the first time I write smut lol (the second as I already wrote this fic)) (the smut isn't with Larissa)
You are Larissa's brother's wife.
word count: ~3000
(I know this will look a bit like Mme Bovary, but... well, it's not a classic of French literature for nothing)
Tumblr media
You had married Philip Weems two months earlier. You didn’t love him. He was eleven years older than you, and not really your type. In fact you didn’t really choose to be his wife and to live in his house. Your father and him wanted to reunite their companies, and you were only there to make it look less commercial. You were here to give an heir. Lovely mission, you were not a woman anymore, you were a baby machine. He had flirted with you before you took the deal, probably to build up your confidence and make it easier for you to accept the situation, but now that you were his, he didn't pay any attention to you.
In his big house, your life was boring. You didn't have a degree, school was never really for you and because your father was rich, you never had to work. So naturally you had resumed reading. It allowed you to live a different life through the eyes of all the characters. And all day long you would read more and more of those mushy novels, dreaming of a life that was no longer available to you. You also started writing, but without telling anyone. It was a bit of a secret. You wrote the romantic stories you imagined all day. And then every day you went out to see your friends in a café in your neighbourhood.
“I promise, Jess’, he doesn’t bother me. I mean, he’s respectful. And I don’t need to work. A win is a win.”
Your friend Jessica narrowed her eyes.
“You sure ? I mean… you always told me you wanted to marry the love of your life when you’d find him.”
“I was younger, Jess’. I don’t believe in this bullshit anymore.”
Yes, you did believe it. You wanted to cry about it. You wanted to know Love. The Real Love. You wanted to meet him by accident in a library, or in a hostel, on the other side of the world. You wanted him to be young, at the same age as you, and you wanted him to love you.
You also wanted to work, to earn your own money.
“Respectful, okay but is he good?” Mary asked
“He is kind, if this is your question.” You pretended not to understand.
“You know what I mean, Y/N.”
“Not really, I doubt he is really interested in me. I mean I am probably too young for him. We just do it because that was a part of the contract, but he never makes me finish. Anyway I don’t need him for that.”
“You don’t love him and he doesn’t look after you. What a nightmare…” Jessica said.
“That’s not that bad. I don't have to worry about money, I have all my days to myself. I can look after myself.“
That wasn’t a positive thing in your opinion. You wanted to be independent. You wanted to be able to do whatever you could want. This made you feel like you were an object, some kind of trophy that he could show off at the parties you attended. You were there to be beautiful and to be silent.
No, the real positive thing was that you now understood your mother, and why she left you when you were a child. Your father always told you she was a bad mother and she didn’t love you. And before you got married, you were mad at her. But you knew, now you were married to a man you didn’t love. She didn’t love you, but she probably never wanted this marriage nor a child. You were thinking of leaving once you'd given Philip a child, the way she did before.
You wanted to find her, and to talk to her. You wanted to know the story of her life, of her marriage to your father. You also wanted to tell her that you understood her, and that you were no longer angry at her for abandoning you. If she hadn't wanted to be your mother, you wanted her to be your friend, because you were going through something she had gone through too..
“Alright girls, I gotta go. See you tomorrow!” You waved at them and left the café after paying for your drink.
It was time for you to go back to your home. Your husband would be home in less than half an hour. You had to help Livia cook. It wasn't in the contract, but you wanted to do it. Livia, although she spoke very little English, made you feel less lonely. She spoke to you in her half-Spanish English about her travels with her family. Even though she often told the same stories, you liked to hear her talk about places you had never seen. Especially when she talked about the sea of clouds over the Sierra Madre. You dreamed of going there. She told you that when she came back to visit her parents, she could take you there. But you knew your husband wouldn't let you go... And then you helped her to speak better English, she had made progress in the last two months. She taught you Spanish too, but for now, the only things you could say were "Soy Y/N, no me gusta mi marido" and some names of foods and ingredients.
Then, your husband would go home, and you would have dinner. He would watch tv, and the both of you would go to bed, and you would have to fuck.
Soon, he would fall asleep next to you.
And every night, after that, you used to imagine another man. Sometimes it was an explorer who would tell you about his many journeys, a writer who would make you read his most intimate texts, a painter who would take you for his muse...
But that night, he was a sailor. A handsome sailor you would have met in the inn where you were working. He would have asked for a room for the night and a meal. And while you were serving him, he would have made a few passes at you, to which you would have responded by teasing him. If at the beginning, it would have been innocent, you would have quickly come to the point where he would have proposed you to spend the night with him, at the end of your service. To which you would have replied with a "maybe", but as soon as your boss allowed you to leave, you would have knocked on his door.
“I was wondering when you’d come…” he would tell you.
Then he would take your waist and hold you close. You would kiss him, and it would become wilder as his hands would travel to your ass. He would gently but firmly push you against the wall.
“You’re the most beautiful girl I’ve ever seen.” He would whisper. You would know that was a lie, but you wouldn’t care. And he would know it.
He would kiss your neck while undressing you. And when you would be completely naked, he would sit you on the bed and spread your legs to kiss your inner thighs, then your clit. He would lick your arousal and you would moan his name.
In your bed, you were circling your clit, legs spread, a hand massaging your breast. You imagined his head facing your wet pussy, saying you were tasting divine, his hands all over your body, caressing your skin. You were already so close and as he would ask you to hold on a little, you waited a few seconds before allowing you to come.
Next to you, your husband was sleeping.
Soon, you fell asleep too.
The sun was brushing your skin, slowly warming it. You opened your eyes. You were alone in your giant bed. Philip was already gone. You heard the clock striking nine. He used to leave the house near seven o’clock. You stretched your arms and legs and yawned. Watching towards the window, you could see the blue sky. This day promised to be good. You quickly showered and dressed up. Something simple. Black tights, dark skirt, white shirt. A safe bet. But to add a small personal touch, you clipped a blue tit pin on your shirt.
You always liked blue tit. Firstly because they were cute. A tiny bird, yellow and blue, with a kind of large eye liner and white cheeks. Secondly because you wished to go to Europe once. You wanted to travel to Austria, or Germany, and this Eurasian tit symbolised this dream.
Maybe one day you would quit New Hampshire.
Something on the dresser caught your eye. Some 50 dollar notes had been put there by your husband. He had written a message on a piece of paper: "so you can go shopping today, we have a guest for lunch".
You frowned and crumpled the paper. So he wanted you to look good with his guest, uh?
“I’m not a teen who needs pocket money.” you grumbled.
You put on black shoes, music in your earphones, and went out of the house. In the streets, the sun was warming the asphalt, and your steps led you almost automatically to the little café bakery in which you usually  bought your breakfast.
Opening the door, a smell of butter, sugar and vanilla reached your nostrils. By 9 am, not many people were left. But you would have noticed her in a crowd of thousands of people. She was sitting on a chair, a big cup of hot chocolate and a croissant on the table in front of her. Her blonde hair in a perfect updo, she wore a clear blue dress. She was looking at the window, her phone in one hand. She was so tall… Your mouth went dry when you noticed her red lipstick as she turned her head towards you. She had caught you staring in the glass reflection. She gave you a smile, and you were sure your cheeks became as red as her lips. You turned your head to the counter to order, removing your earphones.
Were you just staring at a woman?
Did she just smile at you?
You glanced over your shoulder. She was still looking at you, her blue eyes fixed on you, crossing her legs. She took a sip in her cup.
“Hot…” you whispered.
“Excuse me, Y/N?” the waiter asked.
“Yes-yes, Nicolas, er, I-I want a-a hot chocolate please. And… and, er… a profiterole please. Takeaway.”
“Ready in a second.”
You couldn’t stand her look, it made your knees go weak. Was it what Jess called a “gay panic?”. You had to know and tipped a message.
: Hey, Jess
: What exactly is a gay panic?
She was quick to respond.
J: When you look at a girl and you want to like… kiss her. Immediately. And you can’t function properly bcz you think about her kissing you.
J: Why?
: There is this woman at Nic’ and Jane
: I never felt like this for a woman.
: She’s so beautiful, I want her lipstick on my lips and on my throat right now.
J: Oh my god
J: You’re gay!
: Am I?
J: You ARE.
“Y/N?” Nicolas said.
“Uh? Yes, it’s me”
“I have your hot chocolate and your profiterole.”
“Thanks”
“Is everything okay? You seem distracted…”
“Yeah, I’m fine, thank you. Is it okay if I pay later? I forgot my wallet at home.”
“Of course, whenever you want.”
You took the paper bag he handed to you and went out of the café-bakery. The fresh air was really needed. You put your earphones back on.
Who was she?
You had never seen her.
Walking the street, you arrived in the big park in which you always ate your breakfast. Your favourite place was in a sort of hidden place, under a badly pruned weeping willow. There was a bench, and a little pond in which ducks used to swim when you were a kid, but now, there were only frogs left. Sometimes, a grey heron you named Alex was fishing in it. A grey heron in New Hampshire. That was the local attraction. It escaped an aviary two years ago and settled up in the park. No one tried to catch it. And now, it was the star of the neighbourhood's children, who often tried to find it. Sometimes, when it was in the pond, you would talk to it, as if it could understand what you were saying. And for the only answer, Alex would keep fishing, at the other side of the pond.
But this day, no Alex in the pond. And the frogs were happily jumping in the grass. The sunshine passing between the branches of the willow tree made thousands of small sun spots on the now shimmering  water. You wiped the bench full of willow leaves with your hand and sat there.
While drinking your hot chocolate, you thought about this woman, in the café bakery…
You wanted to see her again…
You had just finished your hot chocolate and ate your pastry when you heard footsteps in your back. You hoped no one would pass the curtain of leaves which hid you from the world. You liked to be alone, daydreaming about people you would never see again… Shit, they entered your secret garden. You sighed.
“What a pleasant surprise!”
You turned your head. That was her. She was there, next to you. Your eyes widened, your cheeks went red.
“Hi-uh… Hello.” You managed to say.
“Y/N, isn’t it? Can I sit here?”
“Y-yes, of course. How-how do you know my name?”
“I heard the waiter say it.” She sat, smiling at you. “My name is Larissa.”
“Larissa…” you whispered. Her name was quite unusual, and you liked it, you liked the way it sounded. You couldn’t look at her so you just fixed the water.  But in your peripheral vision you saw her smirk.
“And I paid your order.”
You turned your head towards her. Big mistake, now you couldn't take your eyes off hers.
“Oh no, you shouldn’t have…”
“And you should have sat with me in the bakery. I’m glad I found you.”
“Wh-why?”
Her look went down on your lips. You felt your cheeks warming.
“I don’t know” she said “I thought you could show me a good time…”
“I-I want to pay you back.”
“You don’t have to.”
“But I want to.”
“Mh, if you really want to, there is something you could do.”
“And what is it?”
Her hand approached your cheek. You held your breath. Was she about to kiss you? Your heart hammered in your chest as she stared again at your lips.
“I-I am a married woman.”
She froze. You held your breath. The wind blew and some willow leaves fell on you, the frogs and the pond.
“I’m sorry. I think I misunderstood your signals” She gave you a soft smile.
She started to pull her hand away from your cheek but you held it back.
“No you didn’t. I-I just thought that was unfair not to tell you.”
“I don’t understand…”
“That’s not a love marriage. I don’t love him, he doesn’t love me.”
“Oh. I’m so sorry.”
You shook your head. You didn’t like this pity gaze on you.
“Don’t. That’s okay.”
“You know, I was almost forced into a marriage, so I think I can understand what you feel.”
Her? Her, forced into a marriage? You suddenly felt understood, and safe with her. She took your hand.
“My former fiancé learnt I wasn’t a normie and refused the marriage.”
“What do you mean by a normie? You mean straight?”
“Yeah, I mean straight.” She didn’t want to tell you she was an outcast.
“To be honest I learnt I wasn’t today.”
“Am I your gay awakening?” Her smile grew bigger as you nodded.
She kissed you. Her lips were soft. Both of her hands on your cheeks, yours were on her hips. She left a last kiss on your cheekbone and smiled.
“How about a walk? Maybe you could show me the city.” She said.
“Of course, follow me.” You smiled.
You stood up and the both of you came out from under the willow.
“What was yours?” you asked, leading her on a path in the park.
“My gay awakening?”
“Yes”
You looked at her looking at the big trees.
“My brother’s first girlfriend. He always had good tastes in women. By the way, are you from this town? Because I’m visiting him, and he said he would send me the address but he seemed to have forgotten. Can’t blame him, he has a lot of work.”
“Yes, of course, I live in the neighbourhood. I might know him, what’s his name?”
“Philip Weems.”
You frowned. What did she say?
“I didn’t hear, can you repeat, please?”
“His name is Philip Weems.”
That was official, you just kissed your husband’s sister. What were you supposed to say? Was she the guest for lunch?
“Are you okay? If you don’t know where he lives, that’s okay.”
“I know where he lives.”
“Good morning Mrs Weems” a gardener said.
“Goo-good morning, Mr Johnson. How are you today?” you replied.
Larissa frowned. Did she know him?
And you cursed him for saying that right now.
“I’m fine, and you?”
“I’m fine.”
And he continued sweeping the path beside you.
“Mrs Weems, uh? You’re Philip’s wife.”
“I am.”
She chuckled.
“That only makes you more attractive…”

The original Snow White is my all time fave Disney movie. I saw it in theater as a kid when they rereleased it. I hate when people who were born after 1985 take something made before the 21st century and apply a 21st century mindset to it. They talk like they want a Snow White who will make an impact as if she didn't make an impact in the original film. If you actually pay attention when watching the original movie you can see the impact that Snow White has on those around her.
I didn't realize how much I liked the OG Snow White until we got a VHS tape of a stage musical that was nearly scene to scene of the OG Snow White. I watched it over and over again with my younger cousins. It held us over until Disney finally released the original Snow White to VHS in 1994, when it broke records and sold 50 million copies worldwide. I ask again, why would current Disney think it's a swell idea to change Snow White so much in the live action remake?
Looking back I really liked how Snow White was mostly show not tell, which is the most important aspect of any movie. But a lot of movies nowadays are full of monologues of what a character needs to do and what's going on and how they're feeling instead of showing us and letting us discern for ourselves.
Snow White's value is timeless, that's why she's endured for so long because she resonates with people all over the political spectrum and why they badly reacted to Disney's remake of Snow White based on Rachel Zegler's words.  Snow White epitomizes values about hard work, not being entitled, and choosing a survivalist mentality instead of a victim "woe is me" mentality. Moreover, it is realistic to have hopes and dreams, but not at the expense of shirking your present responsibilities.  Her world was pulled out from under her and she lost everything she knew, but she got right back up.  Many adults have rent and bills to pay so they couldn't just wallow in their self pity and misery.  They have to go to work and carry on, just like Snow White did.
Snow White is relatable.  Many abuse victims grow up to be abusers at worst or assholes at best. Not their fault but still people like Snow white should be admired, she didn’t expect to receive refuge without earning a living. And Snow White helped the dwarves become better people, she even broke through Grumpy and won his affection.  The dwarves answered to NOBODY, and yet they had to answer to Snow White because they loved her, and then would kill for her by chasing the evil queen to her death.
Snow White is a great example of “the kindness you give to others comes back to you” i.e Snow White helps the baby blue bird find her parents, who then return with her parents to help Snow White. Often times the best indicator of strength isn't whether you reject your circumstances but how you choose to live with them.  Snow White (and Cinderella and Aurora) teaches lessons about emotional strength, optimism, and kindness. Not only are these important lessons, but they should be on par with the lessons that Mulan, Tiana, and Moana teach.   Kindness and optimism are just as important as bravery and leadership.
Femineity is not weak or bad, and masculinity isn't either.  Snow White was strong because she is feminine, not despite it. While it is important to show that women can have masculine traits, it is even more important to show that it is okay for women to have feminine traits.
Side note: The Disney renaissance in the '90s was shaped by a man for whom a large part of his identity was rejected by society, and he was unable to express it, which makes the Renaissance make sense for why there are so many stories about self discovery. But the older films were shaped by a man who had to work hard to keep his company afloat during extremely rough times (World War I and The Great Depression), so those stories featuring hard work and resilience make sense. Walt had said that Cinderella was his favorite heroine and the fairy godmother represented the "miracle" (through Snow White) that launch the company to success.

Tell me three songs from Nirvana // Bruce Wayne.
Bruce Wayne x male!reader.
Part 2 of homophobic.
Summary: Bruce takes the first step.
A/N: this doesn't follow canon, this is going to be fluffy and funny as possible.
Tumblr media
Bruce stared at the screen of his phone.
He has seen your story at least 5 times now, not knowing what to do, respond to it? If yes, what should he tell you? That you look handsome?.
Or maybe just hearth it, but that won't make you talk to him.
He sighed.
He was a fool for thinking you were going to actually dm him.
Should he make the first step?
He looked at the picture once again and he finally knew what to say.
"Nice shirt"
You looked at your phone while you brushed El Gato, one of many of Selina's cats.
You didn't pay attention to the message, everyday you have men responding your stories.
Holy shit that's Bruce Wayne.
You let El Gato down and grabbed your phone immediatly, shaking your hands with emotion, you took a deep breath.
"Okay!Um, what do I do?!" You asked to the kitten, he looked at you and started liking his paw.
"Meow"
"Right, so wise as always" You said, you double tapped his message.
"Thanks :)"
Bruce looked at his phone again, his eyes shifted quickly from the screen to Alfred.
"Do you need something, Master Bruce?" The older man asked, Bruce shake his head and tried to hide his embarrassment.
"What's your favorite song of them?"
God, he is so embarrassing, is that how you even speak english? Should he delete the message? He sounded like an old man.
"Oh never heard them, besides that song I put on my story, lmao, Do you like Nirvana?"
You were shaking, why were you shaking? He is Bruce Wayne, your chances are low, he probably has like a thousand message requests telling him how cute he is and marriage proposals.
Selina opened the door of the apartment.
"Why are you so happy about, pretty boy?" She asked putting the bag of groceries on the table.
"BRUCEWAYNETEXTEDME" You said quickly, Selina looked at you.
"Yes, it's my favorite band"
"ANDHELIKESNIRVANA" You said looking up.
"Did you really send Bruce Wayne a message?" She asked, you giggle.
"Better! He messaged me!" You said excited.
"What's your favorite band?"
You looked at your phone, Selina only rolled her eyes but still had a smile on her face.
"My chemical romance"
"I like mcr too, I used to go to every concert I could"
Bruce smiled at the memory of trying to explain Alfred what MCR was and how much he needed to attend the concert.
"Oh my god?" You said low, El Gato jumped to your lap.
"Ayo? Mister Wayne You used to be an emo????"
Bruce chuckled softly, Alfred looked at him from above his newspaper, the older man smirks.
Bruce was a little smile on his face.
"Kind of"
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Hours passed by and Bruce was getting ready to get out and start his shift, he has been talking all day with you.
You sent him a photo, it was you with your make up done, shirtless, and holding a little kitten.
"I'm getting ready for work ;)"
Bruce started at the picture again.
"You look really pretty"
You screamed, Selina peaked inside of your room.
"Are you oka—"
"He said I'm preTTY!" You interrupted her, she rolled her eyes.
"Ugh—" she groaned.
"Seli, baby, support me, I could be Mister Wayne and we'll be filthy rich!" You explained, she chuckled.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Batman and Selina stepped inside the apartment again.
You were eating takeout while you watched the TV, you looked at them and waved.
"Hello, Batsy, Hi Catwoman" You said.
"Really?" Selina said, you chuckled.
"Yes! You can't just be Selina or just a nameless girl!" You explained, Batman opened a laptop next to the window.
"But why Catwoman?" She asked.
"Well, you have little cat ears on your hat, like Batsy has the bat on his chest, the little ears, the cape,so he's Batman and now you're Catwoman" You said looking at Batman for support, Selina meets his gaze.
"He has a point." He said softly, you smiled and she rolled her eyes.
"Oh! Batsy! Turns out Bruce Wayne isn't homophobic." You said looking at your phone, re reading the last text he send you.
Batman felt his cheeks warm, you looked so adorable smiling.
"I was right then." Batman said serious, you giggle.
"But is he you know?" You asked arching your eyebrow.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
A/N: heyyy, so this is part twoooo, took a while I know sorry, hope you like it, I'm really trying to keep it soft.
Lin Chen Phantom and Ralphy Chen
A story of dysfunctional brotherhood
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Content warning: child abuse, child sexual assault, mental health problems
So since my drawing of Phantom and Ralphy got exactly 1 like of the time of me posting this (hooray my shitty stories and drawings got recognised by a single person) I decided to expand on this by writing a dumbass essay on them that no one will read
So to explain the relationship between these 2 characters we need to go back to the beginning in late 1982, with their mother Feng Chen, she was 24 when she met a random british man touring her home country china, she fell in love with him and he got her pregnant
To raise the baby together she decided to move to england and meet with him at his hometown, turns out he was a dick who didn't want to have a child so he gave her the wrong address and sent her to a small town in the north east far from where he actually lived
After realising he wasn't coming, she grew depressed but decided to stay in this town to raise the baby whom she had already named Lin, in July of 1983 Lin Chen was born
Since Feng (who had changed her name to Lola when moving to an english speaking country) had grown so depressing, she wasn't able to take care of Lin properly, in fact she felt some sort of anger towards him since in a way he resembled his dad
Because of this she neglected him, she still fed him but she always forgot to bathe him, change his diaper, change his clothes and when he grew older, teach him right from wrong
She soon got pregnant again in early 1985 from another guy when Lin was 2, and thats when she gave birth to Ralphy, she decided to give him a more english sounding name since she had been living in england for 2 years now and knew more english names
Lin didn't like Ralphy, because he took away the little attention his mother gave him, the worst part was that when he was mean to Ralphy his mother always hit him instead of telling him why it was wrong to do so, so instead of not being mean to his baby brother, he just did it when his mum wasn't around
Soon after Ralphy's birth, their mum broke up with Ralphy's father
Lin started going to primary school when he was 5 (I'll get into his backstory in another post because this is supposed to be documenting his relationship with Ralphy, not his backstory) where he was often bullied by the other kids for "acting weird" (this was later found to be autism spectrum disorder)
Since he was being bullied, he took out all the pent up anger out on his brother, and again, his mum only hit and yelled at him instead of explaining why it was wrong, so he continues to do it when she wasn't paying attention (which was most of the time)
When Ralphy started going to school when he was 5 and Lin was 7, he was also picked on but tried his best to be nice to everyone, maybe a little too nice because since he was so gentle he ended up being an even bigger target for mean kids because they knew he didn't want to be mean to them back
Basically, Ralphy ended up becoming a huge push over, thinking if he was nice to everyone then they would like him and not pick on him, and when they did pick on him he just thought it was because he wasn't being nice enough to them
Around this time their mum got a new boyfriend, Mr Thompson who was Lin's year 2 teacher, this guy was to put it bluntly, a nonce, he sexually assaulted and harassed both boys on multiple occasions but mainly Lin because he was in his class
Luckily their mum broke up with him after a while, not because of the abuse (she was unaware of that) but for other reasons and Lin got a different teacher in year 3, still it left them both traumatized, especially Lin which just made him take his anger out on Ralphy even more
When Lin began going to secondary school (so he was 12 and Ralphy was 10, in 1995) he kept to himself and while some kids thought he was weird they didn't really bully him or said it to his face because they thought he was secretly a murderer and would kill them if they said anything about him (which was obviously not true)
Since the bullying became less severe, Lin stopped bullying Ralphy as much, still he'd sometimes call him names and give him the middle finger but he wasn't doing the stuff he did before (breaking his toys, yelling at him, sometimes hitting him)
When Lin was 13 he made a friend named Harvey Baker who really helped him break out of his shell, and now that Ralphy started going to secondary school too, he was also involved in their shenanigans
Unfortunately, their shenanigans weren't exactly the smartest things, it would often involve doing dangerous and illegal stuff like stealing things or burning stuff with their mums cigarette lighters
Lin and Harvey were both bad influences on Ralphy, but since the 3 of them came from neglectful families they never really got in trouble at home, they only ever got in trouble with the school and on occasion the police, and since they were kids nothing much happened
When Ralphy was in year 11 and Lin and Harvey had left for college (in the year 2000) that's when he realised how much schoolwork he had missed out on doing bad stuff, so he studied really hard, which was difficult considering he had missed out on 4 years of school but he managed to do it
He himself eventually went to college, in 2002 Lin changed his name to "Lin Chen Phantom" asking most people to call him by his last name, the reason he did this was because of a dare but he didn't mind
Suddenly in 2006 Phantom and his friend Vihaan moved to Tennessee in the USA, because it had been a dream he and Vihaan had since they were young children
Phantom and Vihaan promised to meet with Harvey and another friend named Stuart who remained in the UK once every year, but Ralphy was sad because Phantom never came to visit him, nor did he ever answer his messages or calls
After graduating in 2005 (he is 20 now) Ralphy moved to a different town, a less dangerous town than the one he grew up in, there he became an educational childrens book writer
The woman who often illustrated his books was named Anne L Spears, they fell in love with each other, and got married when they were both 23, and not long after Anne gave birth to their son Zane in 2008) and 2 years later their daughter Tamara in 2010
Ralphy began to experience a sort of crisis, he loved his family more than anything but he felt he was moving too fast in his life, he had already got married and had 2 kids by the time he was in his mid 20's, and on top of his job as an author he basically had no free time to himself (this is a big part of his character development in the main story)
During the main story (set in 2011), their mother dies of cervical cancer at the age of 53, while she wasn't the best mother in the world Ralphy is devastated, he informs Phantom on her death
So you're probably wondering what Phantom has been doing while his brother graduated from college, became an author and got married and had 2 kids?
Well after he graduated from a different college than his brother in 2006, Phantom and his friend Vihaan, of course, moved to Tennessee, where they both lived in room 206 of the Coldstone apartment complex
Phantom is 28 in mid 2011 when the mid story takes place and during this time a 24 year old medical student named August (Gus) Valentine moves in with them because the medical school is nearby
Phantom is an absolute dick towards Gus and while Vihaan is kind to Gus he doesn't exactly tell Phantom to stop (which is his main character development, learning to stop continuously tolerating Phantom's bad behaviour)
Soon, Gus's cousin Blythe Valentine also moves in because of her abusive mother and spoiled sister kicking her out of her home, and together they are an extremely dysfunctional and toxic "found family" of sorts
After Phantom gets the message from Ralphy, it takes him a whole day to reply, only for him to reply with:
"Do I have to come to her funeral?"
Ralphy says he doesn't have to but convinces him to do so, and so Phantom flies back to his hometown for the funeral and is insanely disrespectful during it, if you've seen my drawing of them at their mums funeral you'll see how
I'm not gonna spoil anything else, because later on their relationship develops even more, but this is just the basic info
Happy Birthday, Stranger!
Jungkook X Reader
Genre: Fluff
a/n: I refuse to believe my baby Koo is 25. 🥲 No way my bunny boy is getting older. Anyway, let's pretend that Overwatch 2 will be released on JK's birthday when in truth it's like a month away.
🧋
Days as a part-timer were never really fun to you like they described because nothing much really happens in a boba shop. Especially on weekdays when there are clearly no people interested to buy sweet drinks with gelatinous balls of more sweetness.
Today, you were particularly more positive than any day. That's just because the new video game you were waiting on was finally getting released later tonight and you've been looking forward to just spending the whole weekend in your pajamas, finishing the whole lore. Standing behind the counter, you keep your eye on the clock as it struck from hour to hour waiting to be released from your job you just had to take to pay rent and buy food.
It was now 1PM. The store had about say, 2 people and a child who had been running around their table for 10 minutes now (You counted). Thinking it would end here, you pull a chair to the corner behind the counter and take out a comic. If you were to waste hours and wait on a day, why not spend it all on reading? At least you were entertained and productive.
However, not even a few minutes pass, and a group of 7 boys come barreling into the shop. They were loud and laughing as they sang happy birthday repeatedly to the boy who had a smile on his face. For a moment, he caught your attention. Other than the fact that he was insanely attractive, you seemed to have seen him before somewhere, but you shrug it off and quickly attend to them as they finally approach the counter. "Hi! May I know what you'll be having today?" The alleged birthday boy pushes his friends away as they continue to laugh and sing at him. He watches them make their way into the end of the store, taking a seat by the window. He sighs, turning back to you with a small apology. "I'm sorry for that, they seem to be more excited to celebrate my birthday than me," He says shyly, failing to make eye contact with you. This makes you smile.
"It's alright." You say. Clearing his throat, he takes a look at the menu above your head, memorizing each one. He lays down the order and pays his balance before heading to his friends. As you make their order, your mind wanders to the boy you just met. He had a quality that allowed him to be somewhat unforgettable. His eyes maybe. They stared at you, doe and soft. Or maybe his bunny teeth that took up most of his face when he smiles. Or his tattoo sleeve that of course has a fascinating story latched on to it. Or it could be all of these things. Get it together Y/N. You remind yourself as you tune back in to work. As soon as you finish making their drinks, you head over and serve them one by one.
You can feel a few of their gazes on you and this alone makes you nervous. (Also one of the reasons why you dread working here.) "Order's complete. Enjoy, and uh" Your eyes fall back on to the boy, who was already looking at you, "Happy Birthday". He smiles softly this time. "Thanks". You walk out of the scene, tray on your side. you can hear them laugh and snicker at him but you didn't bother listening in, because as soon as you see the clock, your smile widens. It was time.
Jungkook looks at you as you walked away from their table earning teases from his older friends. Jimin nudges him, "Why don't you go ask for her number?" Jungkook shakes his head, taking a big sip from his boba. They all sigh but laugh it out anyway. They stay for a moment, talking about how dinner would go later tonight. Jin would cook him a steak, and a birthday stew while the others would prepare fun games to cap off the night. At this point, Jungkook was half-and-half. Half listening, and half thinking about you. You were so pretty that he couldn't seem to stop thinking about your face even if he wanted to. "That good for you, Kook?" Namjoon asks, as 5 other eyes focus on the younger boy. "Huh? Oh yeah, all good" He responds half-heartedly, but they didn't seem to mind. Not long after they all make their way out.
Jungkook walks slowly behind them, trying to look for you but you weren't around anymore. You must have left, he thought, taking one last sip before throwing his cup away.
-
In line, you stood happily at the nearest video game store there was trying to contain your screams and happy jumps as you watch the line fall shorter and shorter, and soon enough it was your turn to enter. Immediately, you rush to the aisle where they said it was and quickly snatch the last disc on the shelf. You feel annoyed eyes on you but you didn't really care. Making your way to the counter with a big bright smile, you bump into a man who seemed to be focused on looking for something. He towered over you, so when you looked up, you were surprised to see that it was the boba shop boy.
"Oh hey," He says, taking a step back to move away from you. "Hey, what are you doing here?" You ask. "Trying to get the newly released version of Overwatch, I've been waiting on it for years! I was happy to know it would get released on my birthday." You listened to him intently as he talked. It was the most you've heard his voice. You figured he was more comfortable talking with people who shared interests, so you smile, and lift up the disc. His smile grows wider, as his eyes sparkled realizing you had been the same.
Now you didn't have the guts to tell him that what you were holding was the last of everything. The man seemed too hopeful. So instead, you say "Okay, I'll see you at the counter!" before bolting away. During your walk, you think about what to do. Whether or not to just leave it for someone to see, take it selfishly, or give it to him. It was crazy to you that you even had the thought of giving something you've been waiting on for so long, but he had something on you to make you feel this way about him.
"59.99" The cashier rings up. You reluctantly hand in your credit card, and as soon as you get the bag. You turn to try and look for him again. You find him sadly walking around and immediately you knew he figured it was all out. With a heavy sigh, you take one last look at the game before running toward him.
"Hey!" You say, trying to stop him from leaving so soon. He looks at you sheepishly. Without a word, you hand him the bag with a soft smile. "Here, happy birthday." You say. For a moment, he was frozen, unable to comprehend what was happening. "H-hey no! This is yours and it costs way too much. I can wait" Something about a man covered in tattoos and piercings who acted too shy was adorable to you. "Well uh, think about it as me lending it to you for a while. You could play first, and I'll wait for you to finish." You push the plastic handle onto his hand which he hesitantly holds onto. He bows lowly to you making you giggle. "Enjoy the game, stranger." You say before walking out. "Jungkook!" He screams making you stop your tracks. You turn to look at him with an eyebrow up. "My name is Jungkook." He says. "Y/N."
He smiles at you, and immediately your mind was going wild. His smile was so hypnotizing in a way. He breaks the silence again by asking you "Hey uh what's your number?" You look at him astounded. He soon realizes and flails his hands. "No Uhm, just so I know how to reach you to give it back?" He clears making you chuckle. "Here, give me your phone." You say, and he obeys. You quickly input your number before handing him his phone back.
"Enjoy the game, Jungkook." You say before walking out. He stares at your back as you walked away from him knowing that he definitely will.
MTV'S LIQUID TELEVISION
Tumblr media
Before the internet, this was how little kids got exposed to super fucked up animation
Liquid fucking Television on the MTV
parents who weren’t paying attention in the 90s would leave anything on in front of they kids if it was animated. As a result, many very young children got exposed to fucked up shit (like baby me)
check this one out:
youtube
this was the first thing I ever saw from Liquid Television
my gram gram put it on for me one night while she sat in her easy chair and read somthin, completely oblivious to what was goin on in front of her grandkid's peepers
that fucking part where the guy gets stabbed by the metal leg hit me so hard as a baby, you did flat out NOT see blood in cartoons back then and I was SHOOK
then thar was this one:
youtube
this was on MTV and Nickelodeon (back when Nick didn’t have enough original content to fill their air time they would just air random shit)
WHO THOUGHT THIS WAS OK FOR NICK???? MTV yes but fucking Nickelodeon?!?!?
Oh and then theres this one that super messed me up for awhile:
youtube
BABY.
SHOULD.
NOT.
HAVE.
WATCHED THIS.
but baby did
as a grown ass adult I LOOOOOVE these shorts, they’re wonderfully animated and dynamic, but as a tiny kid I was NOT ready for ANY of it
and don’t get me started on all the Aeon Flux I shouldnt o seen
The irony is that these are so tame compared to what I found once I had internet access. You should have seen Newgrounds when it first launched, holy fuck, but I was older and a little more ready for messed up shit (emphasis on a little)
oh! oh!
✨bonus!✨
this one:
youtube
FUN STORY
on a rainy afternoon me and some other relatives my age were watching mtv (because there were cartoons on, duh) and this came on
this upset one of them so fucking deeply that they had to call their mom to take them home
even I was disturbed by it, but I remembered it mainly cos of how it affected my relation
funny how back then this was considered really messed up but now kids the same age as we were back then....
....get to watch this:
youtube
anyways now I inflict/gift u all with these wonderful animated shorts
have one more for the road! Baby me really didn't like this one, woo!
This is a REALLY unpopular opinion, but I actually really loved the break-up in 2521. It felt so realistic and so undramatic. Yes, it made me bawl like a baby, but I also felt it so deep in my bones. I was going through a very difficult phase with my boyfriend when I watched it, and it made me feel validated. Like, couples are allowed to have problems that may seem minor to outsiders, but it can matter so deep to the people involved that it can even lead to a break up. Such perfect depth.
See I wouldn't have minded the ending if it didn't completely go against the characters and their earlier scenes. I agree real couples and breakups have depth and nuances but we should HAVE SEEN THAT IN THE SHOW NOT JUST PRETENDED IT WAS THERE CAUSE THEY TOLD US IT WAS
Like, you're telling me they survived a longer separation when they were kids and weren't even together but then he goes off as adults and is seeing some of the most traumatic things ever and they butcher nhd's character so hard by going "yeah but he needs to pay more attention to ME" even though the foundations of their relationship involved distance and friendship LIKE COME ON. It destroyed their characters, byj WHOSE ENTIRE GOAL WAS TO GET BACK TO HIS LOVED ONES was like "actually I'm gonna stay in this place where I'm miserable because I have to or some bs" and nhd who was one of the sweetest most understanding caring person is like "actually I don't care about your trauma I care about what I want even though I'm the one who travels for work all the time" LIKE IT DOESNT MAKE SENSE.
If they breakup happened for other reasons, or if we had seen more of their relationship falling part and like ah yes they need to breakup its good for them it might have worked but they didn't. Everytime they had am argument about byj's work they made up and moved on. But instead the main issue was miscommunication which I fucking hate in general but it was worse here because THEY ALWAYS COMMUNICATED WELL. EVEN WHEN ALL THEY HAD WAS FUCKING VOICEMAILS THEY COMMUNICATED WELL you cannot tell me they lost that ability by dating no fucking way make it make sense.
Because it didn't fit with their characters and what we knew of them and their relationship, the conflict didn't work for me and thus the breakup felt forced and unnecessary. The last two episodes felt like I was watching an entirely different drama with different characters because thye did not make any sense at all and just ugh
Also the fact that we clearly see both of them are unhappy in their later lives. NHD is always complaining about a shitty absent husband, and she didn't even seem happy when they were newlyweds (wanting a divorce instead come on) like what a sucky way to see it. And BYJ though we don't see much from him he still feels lonely and is a workaholic. The drama didn't give us any closure for them as characters, ans since we watched them grow up and end it with them still being sad and hung up on the other.
If the show had ended with a hopeful open ending, even if they were broken up, I'd feel better about it. Maybe we got to see NHD's husband and see why she married him and that he's good for her. Maybe we'd get to see BYJ with a family of his own or at least some goddamn friends, something to show he healed from that trauma of his nyc stay, idk.
Obviously my ideal ending would have been for them to get back together after a couple years apart and him to have been the dad all along BUT by the end I was okay with the idea that at the very least they can reconnect as friends when they're older. At its core their story was about friendship, and I would have been satisfied if she just like met up with her friends. But no, we don't know what happened to the friends at the end. I don't know if she and bona's character are still friends, if the other two are still married (and THAT was not a realistic romance okay that was bs comparing the two ships and seeing that was the one that lasted was a slap on the face) or whether the smart one whose name i also forgot got to live up to her full potential and be satisfied with her career (i actually liked her working on a variety show it suited her character but also id like to see something). We didnt get to see any of the character grow into people they wanted to be, just hopelessness. It destroyed the main premise that we got from the first 14 episodes. It would have been an easy fic just like a fucking ending shot with her getting a group text from the friend group or contacting byj to meet up and catch up like seriously anything would have been better than seeing her walk off into the distance like "well I can't change my past but i can sure live in it cause my current life sucks)
Not to mention the poor casting choice where older nhd just ended up becoming the most stereotypical ajumma I've seen down to fashion it felt like I was watching some other show. Kim tae ri could have stayed in that role and worn different makeup at least then it would have felt like the same character instead of feeling like it was another drama entirely jfc.
They didn't advertise this drama as a sad one, or at least there was some definite disconnect between the writer and the directors/actors. Even kim tae ri asked the writer to change the ending cause she thought it didn't fit with the story. They changed a lot and it was advertised as a coming of age romance, not the melodrama is became. It just was so incongruous and I hate how it didn't fit with the characters I grew to love.
I'm glad it was cathartic for you but it left me feeling really shitty and hopeless at the end, and that's the feeling I get still when I think about it. It really had the potential to be my favorite drama of all time (something that hasn't changed in nearly a decade since coffee prince for crying out loud) but I can't even think about rewatching it. It's just something I find so unsatisfying.
Plus I hate the message of the story becoming something like "your teens and early 20s are the best years of your life after that it sucks and you just have to be okay with that" like no gtfo. This is a problem across the board in Korea where married women with kids who are miserable just have to be okay with that and I'm sorry I hate it sooooo much. If they just showed that everyone was happy and that their lives were good and importantly THAT THEY STILL HAD EACH OTHER AND FRIENDS it would have told a different story that yes you grow up and change but life doesn't end and you can still go back and be with people who care about you and God I just there was so much wasted potential that they fucked up so bad
thinking about objects for nostalgic adornment.
i was getting caught. i grew excited about the knife, the seedpod and the fossil, their connections in my mind and visually, their place in the world, then realising they had little technical relation to my idea. i was feeling stuck in my original idea that these objects must be those found at a beach, collected and pocketed on a rainy day. but, the whole point of design is that it evolves, and if i'm excited about this avenue it ought to be explored.
the above objects were gathered from around my home, where they've sat since they were given, made or came home, in pocket or hand. each one has importance to me, though it is only i who could see that. i thought i might write a little description for them, one by one.
the knife brooch - one of my mums keepsakes from her and my dads time abroad. when they were in their mid twenties, after saving for years, they sold nearly everything they had and took off traveling for as long as they could. as long as they could, turned out to be about two and a half years, living off a frugal ten pound a day with any excess going towards a box of wine at the end of the week, or trinkets, like this one.
bridesmaid necklace - my parents married after 14 years together when i was 10 months old. as freshly emigrated englishman they got married at a local beach, of course, on new years eve (dad says this is so he could always remember the date, to keep him out of trouble on anniversaries). the blooming pohutukawa trees matched the red of mums wedding dress, handmade by grandma, and my dads button up, bought from farmers, most likely. i remember nothing of the day, having been only 10 months old, but the photos live on as memories, as well as the carved shell necklace i wore as a bridesmaid, along my two older cousins. a talisman of a special day.
purple shell - this is one of the first shells i can remember being fascinated by as a child. anytime we visited bethels growing up, my pockets came home with a good few of these and ramshorn shells. (really they're the vertèbre of a type of squid, so not shells at all, but lovely all the same) they have decorated my room for many a year.
hagstone - this one's story has already been told.
citrine crystal - i believe i got this from a sandbag at crystal mountain. i was attached to it from the get go, and carried it around with me for the rest of the day. family was over from the uk, so we were out seeing the sights. after a visiting par homestead, we were pulling out from the carpark when i realized i didn't have it. dad begrudgingly allowed me to run back inside and look for it, luckily it was waiting were i left it. i've not lost it since.
fossil - i have always collected rocks, stones and shells, as you can likely tell by now, but i went through a short faze of fossil love too. this was bought from a side of the road market, sold by a couple of rock hounds making their way around australia. they were a fascinating pair, and gained a good chunk of my pocket money that day.
geode - one christmas, dad bought me a few geode rocks. together we smashed them open with a hammer, to find what sort of crystal made have been hiding within. i still love them.
baby's breath - mum bought this for me to wear in my hair at my first school ball. there ended up being a power cut part way through the evening when i and near everyone else from our school was getting ready, to everybody’s horror and amusement. believe it or not getting ready in the dark was a lot harder, and I forgot a few things, this being one of them. so i didn't end up wearing it that year, but it has sat dried in a jar as a memento either way. it would have matched the flowers in the corsage bought by ethan, who i went to ball with a year or so before we got together. he had asked, and i'd said yes, under the promise that it was only as friends. he obviously didn't pay any attention. i'm glad of that now.
ring - this is the first ring i ever made for my partner, given on our first anniversary. i had been in uni for maybe a month, which is very much reflected in its craftsmanship. alas, he loved it all the same, at the time it was one of my most advanced pieces. it marks a beginning in many senses.
a lucky life, really.
Their reaction to you finding a childhood picture of them (KH’s characters)
Agatha Harkness:
Tumblr media
"Where are we?" you asked, looking around you
"You said you wanted to know more about my past" Agatha replied simply.
"I was expecting more a story, not a trip to your memory" you admitted "Although, to be fair last night I also expected pasta for dinner, not sandwiches stolen from Wanda's kitchen" you murmured
The brunette had the nerve to laugh, not bothering to pretend that she hadn't heard you. Shameless witch.
"Now pay attention dear" she ordered you, pointing to the approaching witches.
For the next few minutes (it seemed like hours to you), you witnessed the entire trial of Agatha Harkness and the murder of her entire coven. You were stunned. It was an impressive story, of course, but...maybe you weren't paying attention to what was really important.
"Go back a bit" you asked, making your girlfriend go back to the part where her younger self was tied in the stage.
Agatha froze the scene, watching curiously as you approached. She had noticed from the start how fascinated you were with her younger self.
"Aggie...YOU ARE SO CUTE!!!" You finally screamed "Look at you!! So little and pretty and adorable"
Ok...she wasn't expecting that. A part of her was proud that you found her cute, but then...
"Baby witch doo doo doo doo doo doo, baby witch doo doo doo doo doo doo, baby witch doo doo doo doo doo doo, baby witch!" you sang
Agatha already regretted showing you this.
Olivia Octavius:
Tumblr media
"LIVY!!!" You yelled, running to your girlfriend's study.
The scientist immediately pushed aside the project she was working on, knowing perfectly well that once you used that tone, there was nothing to stop you from jumping into her arms. Liv wasn't complaining, but it was better to be cautious.
"LOOK, LOOK, LOOK!" You squealed happily, throwing yourself into the older woman's lap
"What is that, Y/N?" she asked, wrapping her arms around your waist
"A LITTLE LIV!!" You smiled as you showed her the paper on your hand.
Liv froze when she saw that it was that damn photo from kindergarten, where she was dressed as an octopus.
"Where did you get that?!" she hissed
"I cleaned the attic" you answered simply "Look at your little cheeks!!! You were so adorable! And your glasses!!! Awwww I can't!!"
Liv rolled her eyes as you continued babbling about the photo. She tried to look nonchalant, but the blush on her cheeks gave her away.
Carla Dunkler:
Tumblr media
Carla was suspicious before opening the door of her house. Her mother was visiting and the brunette didn’t trust the laughter that was heard up the street.
"What are you doing?" she asked immediately as she walked in
"I'm doing my job as a mother" Isis said maliciously "I'm embarrassing you in front of your girlfriend"
"What-"
And then she saw it. Carla saw the photograph in your hand. It was a very old one, from when she was barely 3 or 4 years old, she was dressed as a bee. Dammit. She didn't even know that her mother still had that!
"Look at this cute little baby!!" you laughed "awwww since you were little you were already the cutest thing in the world, my precious bee!!"
"Give me that!" Carla grunted and tried to snatch the photo from you while she cursed Isis.
But you were faster and you stood up in one jump, taking your hand away from her grasp.
"Y/N" she told you in a warning tone
"Back off, Dunkler! Your mother gave it to me, it's mine now" you said with a sly smile "I'm going to frame it and put it on my desk"
"Absolutely not!" she said horrified "Give it to me!"
"It's mine!"
Isis laughed out loud as she watched as Carla chased you around the house to snatch the photograph from you. She did not mention that you had already taken your precautions and taken a photo with your cell phone, in case your girlfriend tried to disappear the original.
The older woman was grateful that her daughter had found you. Even with all the screaming and false cursing between you, this felt like home.
Eve Fletcher:
Tumblr media
"What have you got there?" Eve asked as she approached you.
You were sitting on the floor with several boxes scattered around you. It had been clean-up day and Eve had given you permission to check the things, in case you could find something to donate.
She didn't expect you to find that.
"I'm crying" you said "Look at this precious baby! All plump and precious!!"
Eve blushed deeply as you showed her the photograph. She was mortified and nervous. It wasn't a particularly embarrassing photograph, but your reaction made her a bit shy.
"Can I keep it?" you suddenly asked.
Eve blinked and looked at you in surprise. Okay, she was NOT expecting that. Part of her wanted to tell you that it might not be a good idea, but most of her found it secretly cute. So she let you keep it.
"Thank you thank you thank you!!" you squaled, getting up to hug her tightly.
Jennifer Barkley:
Tumblr media
You were in trouble and you knew it. But did you care? Nope, not in the least and your girlfriend knew it.
You had had an accident a couple of days ago, so the brunette had forbidden you to go to work until you fully recovered. She wasn't going to admit yet that she loved coming home knowing you were there.
However, when Jen came home that afternoon, she didn't expect to find you lying on the bed with an old photo album in front of you. She initially didn't pay much attention to it, she just greeted you and went to change her clothes. But when she came back and leaned in to give you a kiss, she could see exactly which album it was.
"Where did you get this from?!" she almost screamed, snatching the book from your hands.
"You told me to find something to distract me while you went to work" you shrugged "So I cleaned the shelves upstairs"
Oh no, upstairs. Jen had a room there where she kept things from an almost forgotten and distant past life.
"Wait, did you exert yourself?" she scolded you
"Nah, to be honest I was just getting started when I found that, and I immediately stopped to look at the pictures" you admitted without remorse "You were such a chubby and beautiful baby"
You almost laughed at the blush on the older woman's pretty face.
"Of course i was beautiful" Jen cleared her throat "But don't go snooping around my stuff without permission"
"Okay" you nodded "...can I keep this?"
"Definitely not. And you better don’t mention this to anyone"
"Awww, but Jen!" you pouted "my leg still hurts from the accident, and your baby cuteness made me feel better. Don't you want me to feel better?"
"That's not going to work, Y/N" Jen said "Now get up, I brought dinner" she added, leaving the room with the photo and the album.
You smiled to yourself and looked at your cell phone screen. You would never tell your girlfriend, but you had a whole folder with photos from the album.
Delta Simmons:
Tumblr media
Finding you with that old pic was not something Delta expected when she entered your shared room. It was the weekend, which meant the kids were with their father so you decided your girlfriend should take a well deserved rest and you offered to clean for her. Delta tried to fight, but eventually agreed and let you clean the attic.
“What's that?” she asked
“Look at how cute you were!!” you squealed and showed her the photo.
Delta blinked and was silent for a few seconds before she laughed and sat next to you.
“Oh dear, I haven’t seen this old thing in years!” she giggled.
Your girlfriend was quick to tell you everything about that pic and the story behind it, seeming really proud of the silliness. She knew she was cute, thank you very much. It made you feel so loved, knowing she trusted you enough to tell you all of it.
Milly Campbell:
Tumblr media
“Excuse me” you said when Milly entered your shared room
“Yes?” she raised her eyebrow. You had that smile that always told her when you were about to do something.
“HOW ARE YOU THIS CUTE?!” you screamed and she finally noticed the piece of paper on your hand
It was an old photo of when she was a baby. She didn’t have much of those, given that her family didn’t have much money when she was growing up, so having a camera was a big no and pictures were a rare thing. But she still had some.
She was surprised that you found that old thing but quickly sat down next to you and told you the whole story. It was so nice hearing her so happy, remembering all her childhood adventures. She even showed you more pics.
You two spent hours lying on the bed while Milly told you all kinds of stories and even showed you her whole album. It was a nice moment and she lets you see them again anytime.
Note
for the character ask meme, and apologies if you'd rather not engage with SU content any more, Rose Quartz?
First impression
It honestly took me a while to really pay much attention to Rose; I don't think this is a thing to her detriment, but rather, an actual excellent statement of how she's introduced in such an omnipresent manner that it's only over time that we really start to process her as a person.
I think, early on, the main moments that really made me perk up my ears about her was the gorgeously atmospheric scene in An Indirect Kiss where Steven curls up in the statue's arms- I think it's just such a beautifully effective illustration of how it feels to try to have an emotional relationship with someone who you only really have access to the pedestal she left behind, but that's not really about Rose herself.
So the biggest moment that made me initially go "!" about Rose was the moment in Story For Steven where she floats down in front of Greg and it's a really obvious and deliberate visual homage to an iconic shot of Princess Serenity from Sailor Moon. It was a big part of why I couldn't ever totally buy the claim some characters made that she was Just A Normal Soldier.
Impression now
Having Rose's whole story out, I honestly really love Rose as a character. I think she's fascinating for her complexities and flaws, and the deeply impactful and tangled legacy that she left behind due to her self-destruction. She's a masterclass not only in said legacy, but I also think it's really cool how SU uses its powerful visual and auditory coding with characters and events to make Rose feel uncannily alive throughout the entire series- the way information about her is disseminated even gives us a sense of her growing and changing along with the others. In a way, Rose is a ghost that haunts the series and I don't think that's a coincidence considering the potent use of horror imagery and the unsettling ambiguity of episodes like A Storm In The Room.
And I'm a sucker for a good ghost story.
Favorite moment
Whoops I guess I already listed a few. Honestly, there's a lot of options- I kind of love that Rose's story is "made of moments", in the sense that we only ever see or hear her specifically through someone else's perspective. To list a specific one I didn't drop earlier: I really like how stage lighting is used in We Need To Talk to depict Rose (and Rainbow) as almost inaccessibly ethereal, haunting and strange when she's fully immersed in it during the music video- but then when there's her and Greg's romantic dance later, she's half-in and half-out of that idealized pink lighting, and the rest of the beach is steeped in deep blues.
I love the color pink- part of it is, something I'm coming back to emotionally after going through that childhood phase where you start to realize that people treat "girly" things and "boyish" things differently and get afraid of the former- but I also think pink gets underutilized and underexplored when it can have a lot of interesting contexts. And SU uses pink a lot- it's an aspect both Steven and Rose share, and both of them have really interesting relationships with it. I think one of my favorite things about older Steven's pink jacket is that early on, he has a very simplistic, flat, "plastic toy" kind of pink- it reads loud and obvious with strong contrasts. It's very warm and almost reddish.
In contrast, Rose is given a much paler, ethereal pink- a much more complicated pink, with many different subtle shades to convey her ghostly style.
Older Steven's pink jacket is actually a lot more like Rose's- it's a subtle baby-pink with white accents. When contrasted against the underlying black shirt and still striking/vibrant yellow star, it doesn't suggest he's a continuation of Rose- but to me, it is kind of a nod that as he grows up, he's becoming more complicated himself- which isn't a bad thing at all. It's an inevitability of growing up.
Idea for a story
SU is one of those franchises I think I will always remember warmly and may revisit but for now, the interest has cooled. I think in some ways, this is also that it did a very good job- I'm in many ways satisfied with the stories it told, and am not in a huge hurry to retread or unravel others. That may change, I'm not sure!
Unpopular opinion
While I hardly think this is the only reason that people dislike Rose- the thing about complicated characters is that they challenge the audience more directly to form opinions about them and "I don't like this person" is a valid opinion- I think that there is a phenomenon in a lot of pop culture fantasy where we're used to complex flawed dads with magical legacies. It's a well-established role.
But there's an expectation that assumes that the mom's job, more than the dad's, is to stay home and be emotionally accessible and raise the kids- so if you reverse the roles, even if there's the same amount of love and attention for the kid's life, people can sometimes act very betrayed that the mom kept secrets or had darkness or wasn't a pillar of comfort and benevolence, because that's her job.
If daddy was too busy to be a father to you because he had a magical destiny it's fine, but if mommy wasn't much of a mom for the same reason, mother is evil and must be destroyed.
I'm not sure what's the answer to that; I feel like it's a bit of, we should probably be careful what assumptions we make about a mother's role and ask ourselves if we'd be this mad if it was a father instead- but it's also a bit of maybe we should be madder at negligent fictional dads because I've seen some truly horrible ones get given breathtakingly generous benefits of the doubt.
Rose was a deeply flawed and complicated person and she's both profoundly sympathetic and someone who made some genuinely terrible decisions that the people she left behind, including her son, had to bear the weight of. I think it's inevitable that she's going to be and remain a very contentious character to a lot of people, and I don't think that's a bad thing.
Favorite relationship
Rose and Greg are honestly a really darn cute couple, and I feel like an excellent example of how much you can enrich any fictional relationship by asking yourself serious questions about what drew these people to each other. The extent to which Greg and Rose share certain key flaws- and how much of a perspective Greg has about who Rose was, without being the secret keeper with all the answers- is phenomenal.
I feel like I have to also mention Rose and Pearl here, because not only is that also an extremely interesting and complex relationship but I just, really like the way that crewniverse fielded a love triangle while avoiding a whole bunch of the usual frustrating garbage about it.
Favorite headcanon
Oh jeez, I haven't dusted off this corner of my brain in so long and I want to come up with a good one.
Hm. Here goes: I think if you rendered Rose in a more heavily detailed/realistic style, I like the idea that her eyes would have a slightly unsettling reflective property where in bright lighting they look perfectly black but as light sources move and shift / vary in properties they have a pink undertone/glare to them.
Furuba autistic headcanons
With it being April, or autism acceptance month, I wanted to finally drop my list of characters from Fruits Basket that I read as autistic! This is based a lot on my own experience, as well as that of other autistics I know or have seen talk online. I hope some people can get something out of it, feel free to tell me what you think 😊, though please refrain from getting upset that I would dare suggest your fave is autistic.
Hanajima
Before becoming able to better control her powers, she would be constantly overwhelmed by the things she heard to the point that she couldn't even really go out in public. This reads a lot like sensory overload.
Constantly picked on in school because other kids thought she was weird. Eventually reclaimed this weirdness and turned it into a whole persona.
Seems to talk usually in a relatively flat tone.
Had trouble socializing with no friends outside her family until middleschool.
Has a very funny, dry sense of humor that I find very similar to a bunch of autistics I know, including myself.
Hatsuharu
Listen. You have seen the funky little man, you have seen the way he talks, the way he acts around others. He is, and I mean this in the best way, a weirdo. I do not know how you could look at him and see a neurotypical.
Once again, like Hana, Haru is funny in a way that feels very autistic.
Very flat, dry, tone delivery. Sometimes just Says Things that make everyone else go huh??? Suuuuper blunt. Doesn't emote facially a lot of the time.
When this man sees a social norm he doesn't get he WILL NOT follow it. Pierces his ears just because his hair got flak, defends Momiji wearing whatever he wants because sometimes y'know the social rules are just dumb and don't make sense. Especially dress codes.
Sometimes says things not befitting the current tone of the situation.
Represses (masks) a lot of his emotions, leading to outbursts that seem uncharacteristic.
His main childhood trauma revolves around adults branding him as "dumb" and ridiculing him. Haru, however, is super smart and wise!! Just in an offbeat way that not everyone may get.
Machi
Reads as very "flat" emotionally to the point that others would call her boring. Also has a flat vocal delivery.
Relies on specific habits or ways of doing things or else she gets super upset (her hatred of imperfection.
Has trauma surrounding adults completely misconstruing her intentions and thinking she's doing something malicious when she's not.
Generally behaves in a way that's hard for others to understand, one of her formative moments with Yuki was him saying he wanted to "see how the world looks" through her eyes.
Once again, trouble socializing.
Tries super hard to please her parents but in the end they still see her as somehow inherently "defective."
Listen. A lot of this one and the last two are mostly vibes, hard to verbally define. You just have to look at them and trust me.
Tohru
Displays behavior very reminiscent of masking throughout the story, a huge part of her arc is about how she hides a lot of herself and has a very controlled persona. I think it would fit very well if she had other autistic behaviors that she suppresed also it helps explain why she is relatively socially adept, it's learned behavior to make people like her more.
Yes she is very good at saying what others need to hear, but especially early on she is pretty blatantly imitating her mother's words. She only gets better at getting through on a more personal level later on (see her with Rin and Akito v. early series Tohru). She does this by relating her own experiences, a very autistic way of showing empathy that often gets us written off as self centered. The way she relays things her mom said could also be seen as this, and she even worries at a few points that she's being insensitive for going on about things like that.
While emotionally repressed she is hyper empathetic and feels other's emotions so strongly she cries.
Her speech patterns are all imitated from her father and she often copies verbal things from others (see Ritchan-san). Noted in canon that people think her way of speaking is slightly off/not befitting of someone her age. Additionally, her father was polite more sarcastically, while she plays it straight and sometimes takes things very literally or fails to get the message, indicating trouble with reading tone. Has numerous strange verbal tics, including saying parts of her internal monologue out loud without context.
Very expressive with her hands including waving them around and flapping them up and down.
Does have a bit of trouble with accidental insensitivity in social interactions, like how she constantly fixates on her mom and realizes that might bug the Sohma.
Has trouble paying attention in school since it doesn't have much to do with her interests
Her only friend until she was a middle schooler was her mom
Has a pretty unique outlook on things compared to others, people seem to think she's pretty eccentric. There's always a "this girl is nice but in an odd way, she's our weirdo and we love her" vibe.
Sometimes has an "inappropriate" emotional response to situations
Has a lot of trouble with change, similar to Akito. Which oh, look at the time, next hc coming up.
But first, a disclaimer. It is cathartic for me to read Akito this way, but with that reading comes the baggage that she would, mayhaps, be showing a more negative side of things... It doesn't bother me since it's a joint hc with other characters and she does develop at the end but yeah, general villain hc baggage. This is in no way me trying to excuse her being The Worst being autistic doesn't absolve you of being able to do wrong . Also, a lot of these points can and do have other explanations related to her upbringing, but things can be for more than 1 reason. With that said, she really strongly comes off as autistic to me, in a way that's sorta hard to explain. I wrote a lot more for her than the other, both because I felt I needed more to convince people and that this headcanon was more sensitive and I needed to be careful in my explanation. Also hey! She's my special interest within a special interest.
Akito
Shown to have a dislike of summer weather due to heat and brightness, could be due to sensory issues in tandem with sickness things. Also covers her ears when people raise their voice sometimes which is partially her trying to shut down opposition but also 🤔 can read a different way. She'd also avoids louder Juuni like Ritsu and Ayame because she can't handle them.
Wears pretty much the same outfit every single day. Said outfit is also pretty loose fitting.
Always seen sitting in a pretty unconventional way. Evidence:
Tumblr media
Of course this is also the isolated in a cult thing and there is a level of her purposefully doing things to intimidate but: doesn't follow a lot of social rules (overly touchy with strangers, legit doesn't get that what she's doing is wrong, ect.). Repeatedly confused when people indicate she should act otherwise without explanation. Has a breakdown when this comes to a head and approximately says that "they" shouldn't expect her to know "common sense" if "they" never explained it to her, that the way that she was was her "common sense."
Often talks in a way uncharacteristic of her age when shown as a child in a more faux mature/pretentious way. Might just be the translation and idk how to explain it but her speech as an adult also seems off from what one would normally use in conversation. Additionally, when she tries to fake being friendly in her intro chapter, it comes of as extremely stiff and unconvincing.
Generally displays behavior that could be thought of as childish as an adult, but a lot of this behavior could also read as autistic (covering ears, emotional deregulation and meltdowns, ignorance of basic social norms, ect.). It's also important to note that she knows that this behavior makes her seem younger and more helpless to the older zodiac and uses it as a manipulation tactic. Has issues regarding people treating her like a child or only hanging out with her because of pity. While she does weaponize it, we can tell that this grates on her, as seen with her finally blowing up on Kureno, which is partially triggered by the maids saying some sorta infantalizing stuff about her. Irl, a lot of autistic adults and teens struggle with being infantalized for our behavior generally or treated as little babies that can do no wrong. Even in fandom, you see people doing stuff like jumping to call autistic adult characters, such as Entrapta from Shera, "minor coded." It is also common for us to have at least one bad experience with someone hanging around us out of pity. This is something that really gave me a similar feeling in Akito's arc. She's not a baby and she can understand and do better if she is given the chance to learn and break from all the freaky cult indoctrination she's been subjected to instead of just being constantly enabled. In the end, a lot of her growth is represented by her showing that she is capable of changing and being independent.
Shows particular difficulty with socialization, often sits by herself spacing out at social events. A lot of her fear is rooted in the fact that she doesn't know how normal relationships work, becoming overly reliant on the curse because she doesn't know how to make friends.
Clings desperately onto the notion of being "special" and in some way superior to others to be worthy and to make up for perceived inherent "flaws." It's the nd gifted kid burnout vibes for me.
Easily bothered by things that don't bother others. Feels emotions very strongly to the point of getting physically ill and has bad emotional regulation.
Relatively good at reading others in an analytical sense (though has more trouble when it comes to seeing how they feel about her since she's wildly delusional) but brings up her observations in a very cold, detached way and hurts people even on the rare occasion she didn't mean to. Has extreme trouble connecting to others and understanding their point of view. This makes her come off as pretty unempathetic even though that might not fully be the case. Also thinks that people like Momiji are trying to look down on her when they try to empathize with her. A lot of why Tohru can get through to her is that she manages to convince Akito that she's not condescending by relating shared traits and experiences. As I said earlier, autistics often empathize by sharing their own experiences with someone, and I know I often have an easier time confiding in other autistics because of a fear of being seen as lesser by those that don't understand me. I think the connection between these charachters and the way that Tohru manages to reach Akito like that while others couldn't makes a lot of sense through an autistic lense!
Additionally, when Akito herself gets around to trying to help others instead of just projecting trauma, she tries to reach out to the old maid by relating back to her own experiences. This however, doesn't work.
Has "cold" emotional reactions sometimes even to things that do make her upset. For example, how sort of calm and detached she acted after her father's death can make her seem uncaring. However, we know that this event did mess her up a lot and she is still (poorly) dealing with a lot of grief from the death of her father years later.
Copies mannerisms from others, the most blatant example is with Ren, who she directly parrots lines from as a child to Yuki.
Partly just her posturing, but gestures a lot with her hands when she talks. Also seen several times clutching her hands in her hair.
Deals extremely poorly with the idea of things changing to the point that it is a driving force of the story.
Does not understand when people tease her.
Ect. Ect. Ect. Listen, I could go on for ages but just trust me, the mean gremlin lady is autistic.
Sanyu's Thoughts on Suginami Division
Tumblr media
Ryuko Umemoto
"I think I saw this guy back when I was working for Samatoki. Normally I don't pay much attention to lackies, goons, or peons. They all start to look the same after a while. But I remember him clearly cause not only did he resemble Samatoki in appearance, but his attitude was pretty much the same too. I don't think we even acknowledged the other's existence. We really had no reason to. I didn't care for him, and I'm pretty sure he didn't care for me.
"If not for the fact that I heard he was joining the D.R.B., I wouldn't have even known that he was no longer part of the Yakuza. Apparently, he makes anime now. A good profession, but other than that, I could care less about him."
Maki Umemoto
"I remember this guy. I think Ming brought him to teach her students math or something. He seemed okay, for the most part. It was only later that I found out he's the older brother of that Yakuza guy. ...But apparently, he doesn't follow that lifestyle, and never did. Ming thinks he's okay, but it's going to be awhile before I can trust him."
Shuu Edogawa
"Oh god... I remember this guy. Tasuku had a run-in with him once cause he caught the guy tailing him. I don't know the full story, but... long story short, Tasuku may, or may not have, knocked the guy's lights out, which caused him to be arrested and fined a hefty sum. Boy, if you could have seen Ming's face when she found out! That was scary! But anyway, I haven't seen that baby-faced detective around here again. Sorry pal, but you kind of brought it on yourself by spying on one of us."
Sazanka Zombeez
"'Sazanka Zombeez', huh? Only thing I know about zombies is that they're brain-dead beings who apparently roam the lower depths of hell as animated dead. ...That was lore from a video game, FYI. But anyway, I don't really get the name, but if they're looking for people to feed on, they'll have to find another division cause we're still using all of our body parts."
Okay,it was originally planned that there would be an Alpha Dave x teenage Reader. But in the end, it turned out a little wrong. But I love Alpha Dave too much to just delete it all
🕶Alpha Dave x Reader headcanons 🎥
You were happy when you got a call about a part-time job as a nanny. Your employer urgently needed you to come, so there was no time to think about it
Your employer was a Mr. Strider. You had no idea who it was, but the name sounded familiar
Only when you are in front of the apartment door do you start to get nervous. The joy of getting a job has subsided. But there is no turning back now
The door was opened to you by a man in his late twenties in black aviators. He let you into the apartment, then introduced himself. His name was Dave Strider, and as it turned out, your ward will be his younger brother Dirk
"Of course I'll look after him while you're gone, Mr. Strider, when will you be back?"
"I'll be back at the end of the week, and just call me Dave, I'm not an old man to call me Mr. Strider"
"Okay, whatever you sa... At the end of the week?!"
As it turned out, Dave is flying to Los Angeles for work, and you had to spend a week in someone else's apartment, in the company of a five-year-old boy
Dirk turned out to be a very good child. He didn't rush around the apartment, obediently ate what was given to him, while you were cooking, he sat quietly and drew something. Not a child but an angel
In the evening, you were going to go home, but you were stopped by a small hand that grabbed the sleeve of your jacket. Dirk looked at you with such pitying eyes and asked you to stay, that you could not refuse him. That's how your temporary stay in the Strider apartment began
The week passed quite calmly. You and Dirk drew together, walked to the playground, watched movies in the evenings. Most of the time Dirk asked to turn on My little pony, but when he asked to turn on the movie his Bro you fell into a stupor. It was only after Dirk's explanation that you found out that Dave is the author of several films
Every time you fell asleep watching a movie right on the couch, and usually woke up with baby Dirk in your arms. But on Saturday, when you woke up, you found someone in a chair. Only after blinking a couple of times did you realize that it was Dave
Dirk woke up and was glad to see his brother, but you, starting to get nervous, wanted to leave, but Dave suggested that you stay with them for breakfast, saying that he wanted to talk to you about how the week had passed. You didn't have a chance to refuse
• You were telling Dave how the week went while Dirk showed him his drawings. When you finished your story, Dave talked quietly with Dirk about something, after which he asked "Can you stay with us on a permanent basis?"
His question caught you off guard. Dave hastened to explain that he didn't mean anything strange, it's just that he leaves quite often for work, and Dirk liked spending time with you so much, so why not. You're thinking. This option was not so bad. You wouldn't have to pay for housing, you would have a permanent job. So you agreed
The changes in your life were not so large-scale. You also looked after Dirk, only now sometimes it was necessary to cook not for two but for three, there were more clothes for washing, as well as company for watching evening movies. Dave did fly away a lot for work, but when he stayed at home, you chatted a lot
• He never talked about work, usually you talked about various abstract topics. Dirk was smiling, holding you and Dave's hands when you went for a walk. Dave was really a caring older brother. When you saw them in kigurumi, you couldn't help but smile. When Dave handed you a kigurumi bought especially for you, you couldn't hold back the blush on your cheeks and laughter
Dave often showed peculiar signs of attention. He paid compliments, justifying them with irony, sometimes gave you all sorts of little things, and once together with Dirk he cooked you breakfast
During one of Dave's trips, Dirk brought you a drawing. When you looked, you saw several people. Dave, Dirk, and You. Above you was the inscription "Family". You didn't even notice how you started crying. It was very touching and sweet
You spent the rest of the evening in an embrace, watching another series of My little pony. It was one of the rare times Dirk fell asleep before you did. You took him to bed, then went to sleep on the couch. You woke up from the fact that someone was gently stroking your cheek
When you opened your eyes, you saw Dave. The man was sitting on the free edge of the sofa, his glasses hanging on the pocket of his jacket. This is the first time you've seen his eyes
You hurried to sit up and rub your eyes. It was early morning by the clock
"Dave? Are you back? I thought that you would arrive only in the evening. Dirk and I wanted to make pizza... "
" Well, I was released earlier, I decided to make a surprise, I arrive, and here you are sleeping on the couch"
"Oh, I'm sorry, damn, I probably should have expected this, I'm sorry..."
You didn't have time to finish, as his hand fell on your cheek again. He moved closer, looking into your eyes
"Hey, it's okay, don't worry so much, we can make pizza together, and besides, I like this meeting much more..."
He pressed his lips to yours, which made your heart start beating faster. You liked Dave. But you didn't think that it could be mutual. But now your dream came true
Dirk was watching you and Dave from around the corner. He came when he heard that someone had entered the apartment. And seeing how two people close to him finally decided to admit their feelings, he was happy
Episode 10!!!
Plot switches into high gear! Baby brothers take focus! They're cute and brave! hooray for baby brothers! But also, Naoto is awesome. Like, Naoto from the drama & novelization thereof will always be my favorite, but 2041's Naoto is pretty damn great in his own way.
Also, damn, two more episodes left? :( I've bought the second part of 2041's novelization but I'm holding out, even though I'm really curious about just wtf is really going on here because even this episode raised more questions than it answered.
And a note on the animation: yet again I really really appreciate the way they pay attention to small things that you rarely ever see even in "traditional" animation. Look at the eye movements! They track what the character is supposed to be looking at, paying attention to, or even when they just look around.
Anyway....
Yuuya is really such a good kid. ;__; ) I guess the two pairs of brothers are similar in their basic nature, and beneath all the military training Yuuya is just as kind as Naoya. (Meanwhile, Naoto and Takuya... :D )
So anyway, hey, Russia arc, kind of! It's Russia, anyway!
I get it now - instead of Naoya moving to hide behind Naoto's back or clinging to his arm at the first opportunity, in 2041 the brothers' thing is Naoto moving to stand in front of Naoya at any opportunity. :D Like at this point it's his first reaction to meeting anyone. :DDD
Also, so basically, the Russian lab is a sort of super-mind made up combining the powers of those psychic kids and Mikuriya, that created "pockets" like Mikuriya's lab or that shrine, and also brings people back and forth from the Awesome Spirit World, right?
Also, OOOHHH I get it now. So Mikuriya took in the Kirihara brothers in 2014, but oops, in that exact time they were quite literally spirited away into the Awesome Spirit World. So Mikuriya was like "well damn, wtf" until 2023 when Shouko showed up, aaand THAT'S STILL 18 YEARS UNTIL 2041 NOT 15!!!! WHAT AM i NOT GETTING??! (it must be something super obvious, also I suck at maths.)
So anyway, how does Misaki figure into this? Sure, he provided the prophecy and then he died, but he's still around as we saw in the previous episode.
Also, wait, so what about the whole reincarnation thing? In episode 9 Misaki told Akiko that she's already reincarnated in this world - originally I thought he'd meant the Awesome Spirit World but thinking about it, he must have meant this Bad Material World, otherwise it wouldn't make sense at all. So technically Akiko was dead and had already been reincarnated, and so she disintegrated because there obviously can't be two of her at the same time...
...which is eerily like the paradox they mentioned re: the Kirihara & Kuroki brothers, and it certainly fits the way they keep telling us that they're essentially the same. So if they're technically the same there can't be two sets of the same people going around at the same time.
And right enough, both Naoya and Yuuya are disintegrating, implying that they'll die? probably? When Miki & Masayuki disintegrated Mikuriya said they "went back" to the Awesome Spirit World. But when Akiko disintegrated she supposedly died, as Misaki said he would've wanted Akiko to see the world he'd seen. The way Naoya & Yuuya are disintegrating though... apparently they're also technically dying, then?
(But also what about the older brothers, why are they OK? ...maybe because the two younger ones are empaths which makes them more vulnerable to this sort of thing? ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ )
...right, I give up. :D I'll just let the story tell me when it wants to tell me.
Anyway, aww, baby brothers connecting! Communicating, even!! Working together!!! Baby brothers save the day! That was so nice. And the older brothers being all "hrrr grrrr hrrrr" about it. :D
So anyway, Naoto is awesome. Missiles? NO PROBLEM. I'm on a mission here. I may die but I did my job. Also I may die doing something actually useful for once. I can see drama!Naoto being pretty satisfied with that, although he didn't really have a death wish... he did hate having this seemingly terrible power though, so he would've liked to go out using it for a greater good, especially if that involved protecting Naoya. But also, Naoya deciding to stay, and the two of them standing there being all against the world and everything was pretty great.
Takuya, my friend. You're so, so dumb. You're very pretty but oh you're so dumb.
Also, look, this is hugging, OK? Sure, Naoto is covering Naoya from the blast but Naoya's arms are around him, so that's technically a hug, OK? Let me have my fantasy.
Tumblr media
(Even though 2041 is lightyears better than Genesis about literally everything, I still find it kind of hilarious that it still can't show even a fraction of the physical contact between these two that the drama has... let alone the Tateno Makoto manga that shamelessly wallows in shipping.)
Wait, Miracle Mick is involved somehow? That's one plotline I didn't expect to get picked up again. :O
I'm going to be so sad when this ends. :( Gonna be lonely again... the show doesn't have any fandom that I can see, and with me sucking at drawing or writing, it's gonna be back in my, er, spiritual world of beautiful brotherly love, sigh. Well, at least from now it will come in two flavors. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
