OH MY GOD I TYPED UP A WHOLE THING AND ACCIDENTALLY LOST IT OH MY FUCKING GOOOOOOOOOOD I HATE IT HERE- anyways *ahem* attempt no. 2 of me asking you for a Hazbin Hotel match because I have never done this kinda thing before and I'm curious :)

GENDER AND SEXUALITY: I'm non-binary, they/he/she pronouns. I generally don't have a preference between the three tbh but I do appreciate ppl mixing it up! I'm sex-repulsed asexual and gray-biromantic. Again no real preference lmfao

APPEARANCE: White, dark blonde hair, green eyes, just below 5'3, pretty basic looking all things considered. I've got a pretty angular face I think. I'm afab and don't shave cuz it's too much work. I wear pretty much exclusively graphic tees(band shirts, dumb jokes, fandom stuff... that kinda thing) or button ups with funky patterns paired w/ the comfiest pants I can find, but occasionally I'll pull myself together enough to make a dencent(?) outfit, typically reminiscent of shit scene kids in the early 2000s would wear. I also like dying my hair but usually don't bcuz I procrastinate on it for too long.

PERSONALITY: If I had to describe it in one word? Unhinged. I am unhinged. 7/10 people will agree I am a very frightening person to be around. I say out of pocket shit(ranging from vile sex jokes to just straight up threats of violence) pretty regularly. I also like to sneak up on ppl and make very loud noises just to see their reactions... *ahem* anyways, despite all that, most of my friends would also describe me as caring and loyal! I have low empathy, so the only way I ever understand any of my friends emotions is by using my own experiences to compare and contrast until I have a decent idea of what's going on in their head, but I AM very good at psychoanalyzing people and providing objective, unbiased thoughts & advice on their situations. I would also literally go to war for my friends. Like, if you hurt one of them say your goddamn PRAYERS because I am coming to your location with a knife and murderous intent. I'm kinda awkward & shy at first, but at my core I AM an extrovert. I just don't know how to talk to ppl bcuz I am ✨neurodivergent✨(autism & ADHD) and have a hard time approaching ppl bcuz I don't know if they'll like me or not. Typically I make friends by making very loud jokes and waiting for somebody to approach me because they like my sense of humor. Which speaking of, I am very funny! Most people I interact with regularly would agree I am a very funny person!!! I'm also really good at media analysis and making arguments. I don't do well in debates because I choke under the pressure(gotta work on that tbh), but I'm good at writing argumentative essays. Plus, I'm pretty good at just bold face lying to people so overall I can be pretty damn convincing. I like adrenaline rushes and try to actively seek out new experiences as long as I'm confident they won't cause me any significant damage(socially or physically) in the long run. Which is unfortunately not many because I am INCREDIBLY paranoid. Like to the point of accidentally staying up til 3am cuz I'm convinced someone's gonna break into my house and kill me... I also have depression, severe dissociation issues, and existential dread which is. Fun. That's fun. I also have a tendancy to go down random rabbit holes and obsess over inconsequential details in shows I like to the point of making whole ass conspiracy theories :)

LIKES: Cartoons, drawing, writing, acting, singing, reading fanfic, watching YouTube, long drives, listening to music, jumpscaring ppl, being funny, ziplining, problem solving, video essays, ghost hunting shows, supernatural stuff in general, psychology, media analysis, frogs, sharks, ferrets, cats, violence, chocolate, Drawfee(YT channel), glitter, and just. So many fandoms. Just so many.

DISLIKES: Slimey shit, being touched(most of the time, there are occasional exceptions), being touch starved DESPITE not liking being touched, ppl insulting my interests(only I get to do that), media illiteracy, projects I'm not invested in, ppl putting preasure on me, mosquitoes, existential dread, dissociating, being tired all the time, being wrong, taking risks, feeling vulnerable, and stories with a lot of potential that just. Don't do anything with said potential.

A few reasons I like and dislike the the new Percy Jackson show (and why I think the musical is better) - initial reaction

To start, I think this new PJO show is a million times better than that dumpster fire of a movie (though I love logan lerman <3). I like that it is quite faithful to the overall arcs and major plot lines of the book. I love the diversity and high caliber of actors (though I def have some Viria-art inspired character images in my head that are god-tier). I love some of the characterizations/portrayals, especially when it comes to making the character more complex (I really appreciate TV Sally for being a real person with complex emotion, though of course book Sally is my fav). And I love that it's so high budget and hgihly-anticipated (great marketing) that it is bringing this beloved story to a greater audience, especially the younger generation and older generation (as parents/grandparents) than those of us who grew up with the series.

I can boil down all of my dislikes of this show into one overarching but very essential part of the show: I don't like that it is a drama. The characters are way too serious and too every-other-moment-we-need-an-instense-heart-to-heart. What I think this show should have been is a comedy adventure with drama/melodrama sprinkled in. In the books, it's all about the banter. And the TV show does some good one-liners, but it's always so serious. I think the best part of the book is that the characters can stay light-hearted and fun despite the horrors and terrors they face. In the show, the gods spoon feed the trio most of the answers, so when they do have a good realization (SPOILER: e.g. Kronos being the orchestrating force) it kind of comes out of nowhere. TV Annabeth is so serious (I know in the first book she is her most serious, but not to this degree) and a lot of the moments when she has time to use her smarts are gone or approached differently. Percy, too. He's not just self-sacrificing (which they really lean into in the show) but he's also incredibly smart and silly. In the books he's kind of a surface-level himbo with great critical thinking, but in the show he's kind of left in the dark and doesn't get opportunities to make his own plans (also, he doesn't seem to know how to control his power (by the 7th episode); whereas in the book he def did at this point. Then there are just dumb changes to make the show more "serious" like not mentioning that cell phones attract monsters or that monsters just smell demigods and not have a 6th sense for them. I'm finding that by trying to change these small details to make it something more exciting or interesting, it's distancing us existing fans by not letting us relate to the small details that really don't matter. For the cellphones, they still use Iris messages rather than getting a payphone or something, so that's kind of a plot hole in the show that is answered by the book.

Anyways, those are my main takeaways. Now, when I say "the musical" I refer to The Lightning Thief: The Percy Jackson Musical by Joe Tracz and Rick Rokicki which first premiered in 2014 but got revamped and redebued in 2017 (which is when it came into my life). I got to see it live in Toronto in 2019 with my middle school best friend, but have been an avid listener of the soundtrack since 2017 (the day it came out on streaming platforms).

The musical in my eyes is a nearly-perfect adaptation of the book. It's soo funny - def the action comedy I'm after, but does have the meaningful emotional moments (ballads, which are essential in musicals). The show itself if the full package; however, even just listening to the soundtrack gives you the whole gist. Three Fun Facts About Me:

I have never been in a relationship before. Ever. The only experience I have in that department is through other people's stories, not really my own. And by that, I mean that I'm used to watching my friends/people around me getting in and out of relationships, and listening to songs about romance and love and heartbreak... but not really relating to them due to not having any of those experiences myself (but it's alright, tho. It'll happen when it happens! In the meantime, I always have my made-up ships from my writing lol).

My favourite book growing up was "Matilda" by Roald Dahl. I thought Matilda was such a cool girl growing up lol. And lowkey relatable in a lot of ways. No, I wasn't a child genius. But she kind of fits into the archetype that I always found comfort in due to being that kind of person myself. Smart/intellectually curious, bookworm, introverted/independent, genuinely kind and has a heart in spite of being seen as cold by others (another example of this is Huey from Boondocks. Been rewatching some episodes of that show recently and wow... forgot how crazy it was lol. It's good, tho).

Christmas is my favourite holiday! 🎅❄️🎄I do get why some people may dislike it, I guess (like, my younger sister isn't a fan, and she's explained why... I get it. The over-commercialisation of it takes a lot of the "specialness" out of it, you know? Distracts from the actual meaning behind it and all. Plus, it can suck if you're just feeling sad and lonely during a time of celebration for everyone else. Aside from that, technically Easter is more significant if you look at it from the lens of which Christian holiday is most important). But I love the joyfulness and festiveness. Makes me feel all jolly and cosy inside. Plus, I love singing Christmas carols. And presents. And Christmas movies. I just love Christmas lol.

Favorite season:

Autumn. Or fall, as some others prefer to call it. That's when my birthday is!!

(Second place is summer because that's holiday season. Plus, that's when my sister's birthday is.)

Introvert or extrovert?

Introvert. 100% introvert lol. I feel most comfortable within myself when I'm by myself. As a kid, I was so painfully shy that the thought of going up to someone and asking a simple question would terrify me lol. As I got older, though, I was super duper lonely, and I realised that I had no real friends because I was keeping myself all closed off in a tight shell, so I'd literally force myself to open up and become more social and make friends with other kids. I practised it, like how you do with any skill. Now it's not so bad. I'd say I can carry a conversation with someone fairly well, even if I don't know them so well.

Favorite meal:

Ooooh.... this is hard. I love most foods lol.

I think I'll go with something a little bit more traditional. I'm Kenyan, and one of my favourite meals that I've grown up eating is chapatti and stew (any kind of stew, or soup. But my mum would usually make this stew with kidney beans. That was a big hit growing up). Haven't had it in almost a year, tho.

Aside from that, I love pizza. And Nandos.

1. Who was the last person you forgave? How long did it take you to forgive them? A family member. Some hurtful things had been said and certain situations were handled poorly, and it was causing resentment. I finally had to forgive them and try to see things from their side and while I'm still unhappy with some things, life is short and I don't want to end the little time I might have with this person.

2. Is going mushroom hunting in the woods something that would interest you? No, not at all.

3. What is your favorite junk food? How about your favorite health food? Little Debbie snack cakes and Reese's.

It's not easy having to cut peeople out of your life. It's not fun.

12. Where was the last place you went out to eat? Is going out something you enjoy or would you rather cook at home? Last went out to eat at this pizza place while out of town. I enjoy getting takeout to eat at home.

13. If you have any pets, do they seem to notice when you’re sick or sad? Yes, I know my doggo does. When I was in the hospital for 3 months and the shorter time last year, my family said my dog acted weird the whole time. She was whiny (unlike her), waiting at the door a lot, appetite was less, and she always slept in my room. When we're home and sad or not feeling well she'll check on you and keep you some company. She'll nuzzle you. She'll be extra loving. They no doubt notice that stuff.

15. Is anything you’ve done lately going to matter in a year?   I'm sure. And who knows what could happen this year.

16. What was the subject of your last phone call? It was with my mom earlier to see if she could come home real quick on her lunch break.

17. Are your hobbies something you’d rather do alone or with others? Depends. Like reading, watching YouTube, coloring, playing The Sims, and social media stuff I like to do alone. But watching TV, going to the movies, and shopping I like to do with others.

18. Is there anything about yourself that you’re trying to improve? There's a lot I need to work on and improve upon but I admittedly haven't done nearly as much as I should be doing or trying as hard.

19. What are you doing today? I woke up at 6am for a 730 appointment only to find out the appointment is actually next week. I was sleeping just fine and was nice and warm but dragged my ass outta bed to this damn appointment for nothing! I was so pissed. I've honestly just been sleeping off and on forr the day.

21. When was the last time you visited relatives? Do you see extended family often? I saw future-to-be relatives in law to my brother recently. I see one of my aunts pretty often. I don't see my extended family often to be honest. Nowhere near as often as when we were kids.

23. Will this weekend be better than last weekend? It'll be much of the same, which isn't a lot.

(CANON MUSES) - i dunno man. i like 'em a little broken and a little fucked up. and a bit of a smartass with a soft heart under it all. that really applies to most my muses to some degree. reno started out as my fresh start after leaving a pretty terrible stint in another fandom. he was easy to approach or to approach others. he was a blank slate enough that i could be creative with crafting a background and development while still having a basis to work from. there also weren't several variations of him over decades of ever changing content via movies and comicbooks to narrow down from. and now he's practically straddling that canon vs oc line for me. this version of him is mine and mine alone. for sephiroth specifically, i'll be honest, i didn't really care too much about him for the longest time. mostly because he felt too empty and boring to me as a villain. so i didn't feel compelled to making up some background to fill in the gaps. then i played crisis core and that humanized him for me. but i still hesitated to actually write him. and then evercrisis came out with him as a teen. and just. i just think he's neat now. (OCs) - aw man, i love ocs so much. i have such a penchant for creative overflow and end up making them in batches. (usually all related to a single story or universe) but i know they can be a hard sell if they aren't already aligned to a fandom. which is totally understandable! i really have too many ocs that i'd love to write, especially in ff7 verses, but its hard to juggle them all. a few of them still have blogs, so maybe one day i can bully some people into writing with them. (:<

its not that i dislike writing anything in particular. on the contrary. i would love to write more questionable content. though i'd prefer to write these less savory themes with people i'm most comfortable with and understand that its just exploring things in writing and not some fucked up reflection of myself.

what i really love writing are moments where characters who don't know love or trust is open and vulnerable with someone. they're opening up and learning to really trust someone for the first time. they're showing the real person hidden within. the actual moment or connection doesn't matter. it could be friends, lovers, enemies, or whatever. tho i will admit that i do enjoy writing some raunchy smut from time to time.

a lot of them start as mundane thoughts about whatever numdane thing i might be doing in that moment. cooking, cleaning, eating, whatever. then i wonder how that character would react in that same situation. then the thoughts and what-ifs only grow in complexity and depth. or more abstract and philosophical depending on mood and development.

music is an absolute no. it gets me distracted. but i also can't do silence. to i meet in this weird middle where i que up a bunch of random videos on youtube into a playlist and let it play in the background. most of it is like, reddit comps read by some soothing voice. i don't have to actually think about what i'm listening to. sometimes i'll get real lucky and listen to some deep dive into a character i'm writing and it gets the thoughts flowing.

its a little bit of both. a goal is in mind, whether its my goal or a shared goal with my partner, but its something to reach. however, the actual journey to that point doesn't matter. that gets winged to hell and back. even with a goal in mind it can and sometimes does change in the end. and i'm perfectly okay with that. i like seeing the trajectory change over time one post at a time.

Antphrodite (a youtube tarot guy) did a reading on his Twitch stream about the beef yesterday. The YT video's coming later today. Basically, he said that it's team vs team and not artist vs artist; Taylor believes that Billie's inspired by her; Taylor's team is making her paranoid by saying that "this person said this about you, this person criticizing you, people are against you etc"; Taylor's territorial over a mutual friend or acquaintance they have (everyone in the chat assumed it's LDR); another girl wants everyone to see how mean she is and is willing to wait as long as it takes to bring her down (everyone assumed it was Olivia).

I'm not really into that kind of stuff but his videos kept popping up on my homepage so I gave it a shot and honestly, he's been pretty accurate so far. If the stuff about Taylor's team is indeed true, my dislike for Scott Swift has just increased by 10%

i know you guys all love him and i have nothing against him personally he seems nice (shannon adores him and is a big supporter and believer of him and she sings his praises all the time which is great! but at large i do loathe the idea of psychics. that’s not evidence based. if you make hundreds of predictions about a public individual some of them are bound to come true. he said that kaylor was real (fair enough might have been!) but karlie was WAY more into taylor than taylor was into her. that’s not reflected in the music nor is it reflected in the verified tea about them.

i would hazard a guess to say we have been just as accurate if not more. we literally made an episode about taylor and joe being in trouble (when NO other swiftie was saying that) THE SAME DAY that taylor wrote you’re losing me. i also happened to say “i can fix him” and “but daddy i love him” over the past year or so when talking about taylor and her relationships. that’s ofc a coincidence but why don’t you guys who believe in psychics think IM clairvoyant after that?

There’s a Douglas Adams quote I love that says: “Anything that is in the world when you're born is normal and ordinary and is just a natural part of the way the world works. Anything that's invented between when you're fifteen and thirty-five is new and exciting and revolutionary and you can probably get a career in it. Anything invented after you’re thirty-five is against the natural order of things.”

I’ve always tended more toward the latter end of that spectrum of views, even though I’m not 35 yet, but I’ve realized I’m approaching an age at which that is less cool. I was complaining about kids these days with their shitty pop music when I was ten – not the sole reason why I had no friends as a child, but it probably didn’t help (the real reason was debilitating social anxiety, which meant I almost never spoke at school and did very nearly all this complaining to my parents and my journal, but I’m remembering one or two occasions when I said something about it around other kids and that can’t have helped). I joined Facebook when everyone else did, and since then have complained about the advent of every new type of social media, even though Twitter and Instagram started when I was a teenager. So I’ve always been a curmudgeon about kids these days. But at 32, I’m realizing it now makes me an old person who condescendingly looks down on the next generation, rather than a precocious child or a contrarian teenager who refuses to be part of my own generation. And I liked being those other two things, but this one’s not so good.

I thought of that today, listening to Daniel Kitson on his radio show talk shit about the entire concept of podcasts. When he started on that subject, I had an immediate, automatic reaction of, “Okay, the parody of Russell Howard and all other 6 Music DJs telling people text into the show was entertaining, that radio show is something I enjoyed but recognize is not exactly the height of art, but how about backing off from taking shots at the life’s work of Andy Zaltzman, given that that is the height of art.” But then he started complaining about podcasters who add video versions where we can see them with their microphone, and actually, I do kind of dislike that The Bugle has started doing that in recent years, for entirely curmudgeonly reasons. And if I see someone do that when they haven’t built up the mountains of respect that I have for Andy Zaltzman, that’ll just immediately annoy me.

I thought of this the other day as well, when a nice person in a message recommended me a YouTuber’s videos, and I tried to watch them but just could not get past my automatic judgement of the concept of “YouTubers”. But to be fair, what does make that inherently different from the podcasts I love? They’re just people talking into microphones, and I’m just mad because they’re doing it in a slightly different format than the one I’m used to. Who cares if they say “like and subscribe” at the end? I politely understand the need for bits of audio podcasts when the guests plug their work, why does it seem so much worse when a YouTuber asks people to do whatever makes them money? I generally consider it a bad thing that there’s a trend of comedy becoming the domain of social media instead of more traditional methods, but don’t traditional methods suck? It creates a lot of pointless bullshit when everyone with a computer and a camera has an equal shot of “creating content” that gets noticed (I’m sorry, I can’t bring myself to write that without scare quotes, I hate the term so much), but isn’t that better than a few TV networks deciding what’s out there? I believe that in theory, but I still think the idea of “social media content creators” is about the worst thing I’ve ever heard. Even though Munya Chawawa’s music parody videos are actually very funny.

Anyway, I thought all those things while listening to Daniel Kitson talk shit, and had a few seconds of getting viscerally defensive when he got into podcasts specifically even though obviously I knew he was playing up the curmudgeonliness on purpose. And I knew he was about to undercut it by saying he could see the flaws in his views. I knew he’d do that because he does it almost every time he talks shit about anything, which is one of the things I really like about him.

In this case, putting too much stock in anything he said about podcasts being shit was especially pointless, because the entire thing was an act. Looking for archives of that radio show led me through some message board threads in which I had a few things about this radio show’s ending spoiled for me, so I actually already know that (spoiler alert, but I’m guessing the number of people reading this post and planning to listen to the radio show while not wanting spoilers is pretty low) he’s building to a reveal that what we thought was a live radio show was really a podcast all along. Or something. So every time he complains about people recording non-live audio like some sort of podcast, the entire joke/point is that he’s hypocritically doing exactly that. Or something.

Spoilers are generally not a great thing, but I actually like it in this case because knowing the ending means I get more out of all the moments that he’s building up to that. Like I can recognize him throwing in an unnecessary reference to the fact that it’s the middle of the night, and I can say, “No it isn’t. Ah, I see, I appreciate your clever ruse.” I don’t know why I’ve reached a point in my life at which the thing I most want to do with an entire day is listen to Daniel Kitson lie to me about what time it is, but there are worse things I could be doing.

I feel like in an age of algorithms making assumptions based on unknown data from you or people in similar demographics, the concept of "putting your foot down" has lost all meaning.

I'll use a few experiences I've been having lately. So I dunno if you are like me, but I try to think of my social media feeds like a home or a garden. Something you have to help cultivate by doing small tasks but helps make it feel like yours. But I feel algorithms just fucking ignore this.

Facebook: Facebook really wants me to get into football (soccer for the Americans) I have zero interest in football and I keep hiding anything related to football on my feed. The issue is, it ends up back there. I've tried changing my settings to show less of it, but because algorithms are a black box based on things like ages brackets and locations and because I live in a city where a good percentage of men love football, it thinks I should too. This is annoying but is fairly ignorable because I don't really use Facebook a lot.

Instagram: so Instagram's algorithms are confusing. Where Facebook is really pushing me to get into football and has been for 3 months despite all my efforts, Instagram's algorithm seems to just throw the most random topics my way for a week hoping to get me into them and then when I've said "show me less of this" it will try something different and it's really random what it picks. Hey, look at all these cool hunting knifes.... No? How about children having haircuts..... No? Manosphere influencers.... No? Carpet cleaning....no?

Spotify: so not social media but definitely algorithm heavy. You can listen to 5 songs by one artist 4 years ago and it will be like "scrunglejim and the playground pedants are one of your favourite bands. You like this band so we're going to keep recommending them to you and because every update we restore the app settings. We will try sneaking their songs into your playlists" but there's no real way to stop this on Spotify I'm aware of.

Tiktok: so I keep getting turned away from tiktok. I've heard people say it's algorithm is the best but I'm going to disagree. Before I made my current account, I had tried to make 4 other accounts and kept getting turned away in the first 20 mins. I have a bit of a rule with any social media. If I see homophobia/transphobia/bigotry/racism/violence in the first 30 mins on a platform, I just delete the account. Tiktok failed those 4 times. I had friends try to tell me "train the algorithm by liking videos on things you wanna see and "not interested " in things you don't wanna see. So I gave my login credentials to these friends and said "ok. You do it for me. Like positive posts related to cycling or anime/music I like and disliking anything bigoted" but I still see bigotry and transphobia on my fyp. Also, I like cycling. Not videos of cyclists getting hit by cars. That's the opposite of cycling.

YouTube: my least favourite algorithm because it has a habit of doubling down on creators it likes. I'm going to use a certain creator as an example here. So I don't like a certain youtuber. I gave one of his videos a go in 2020 and it wasn't my thing. It felt very low effort and not something I'd want to watch. I disliked the video and then removed it from my watch history..... But his videos kept showing up on my feed..... So I clicked "don't recommend this channel" but his videos still kept appearing on my feed about once a week. If it wasn't his main channel, it was a second channel. If it wasn't either of those, it was the channel where he posts his livestreams. If it wasn't any of those, it was a clips channel. If it wasn't any of those, it was 3rd party channels uploading clips of him. If it wasn't any of those, it was drama channels talking about him. If it wasn't any of those, it was channels talking about how great and important he is. No matter how many times I show my disinterest in this creator, YouTube tries to force him on me. I've got a reflex that if I see his ugly face, I just click "don't recommend this channel" and add one to the tally. Btw, since 2020, I have clicked "don't recommend this channel" on his 4 channels a combined 81 times.

I think in an age of more and more complex algorithms, it needs to be reinforced into tech companies that if I say "not interested" or "don't recommend this" it shouldn't be treated as the yes that hasnt been said yet. It should be treated as a no. But fat chance that's ever gonna happen.

I'm still mostly bedridden and need help transferring and when I'm up in my chair checking the freezer isn't something I've had a need to do in awhile.
