No actually I will say. The latest Marionetta episode is so good in its depiction of racism and colonialism. SOMEONE DID THEIR RESEARCH. You can tell Miriam learned a lot from Hooky because this whole scene was fucking hard to read and earth-shattering for me

Its also the way Mama Yalizah compares Sahed to an animal that felt. Yeahhhhhh 😶

I don't know. Its such a good depiction of growing up as a poc and constantly being expected to always behave and be palatable because if you weren't, you'd just get your humanity taken away from you for acting "animalistic" or "dangerous" (for being a kid)

I CAN NOW SAY I FUCKING ADORE SAHED. honestly Marionetta hadnt clicked for me quite like HOOKY yet but it's getting there. I liked Sahed but I didn't like him that much (also I feel like a lot of his fans tend to fetishise him a little which I feel like turned me off from him) so I've been more into Kamille and Rainah tbh

Like yes there was that scene where Dotty was embodying white feminism by basically invalidating him and being high key racist and that scene hit and conveyed the feeling of being the only poc in the room well but outside of that. in MDZS the novel, the innkeeper in Yunping mentions that people are too scared to go petition Yunmeng Jiang for help because someone once walked in on Sect Leader Jiang whipping a guy in the main hall, supposedly because the guy was a demonic cultivator.

#mdzs #jiang cheng #wei wuxian #jc apologism #anyways as you can hopefully tell by now this is a jc stan blog.#so as a stan i will do my rightful stan duty and insist that my fave did nothing wrong #so. onwards. the “jiang cheng tortures demonic cultivators” claim is interesting on several levels #because we don't see it happen onscreen. and because thematically mdzs is a book about the unreliability of rumors #especially when said rumors conform to your preexisting understanding of someone. or what you want to hear about someone #it would have been so easy for mxtx to include a scene where jc tortures a demonic cultivator onscreen. i would love to read it too #but that doesnt happen. when jc actually corners wwx he just shoves a dog in his face and bullies him emotionally #smh jc get your shit together!! what is this lame ass display?? not living up to your reputation here loser #anyways. tbh i consider two things separately: 1. mxtx's intentions. and 2. what the text itself implies #for 1. i am legitimately unsure of what to think. mxtx relies on rumors/empathy/etc to give us info about side characters #in part because she's constrained herself to writing from wwx's perspective and has no other easy way of getting the info to us #does she intend for us to question the rumors? or are we supposed to take them as fact because of the narration limits described?#2. what the text itself implies is not necessarily the same as what mxtx intends.#for me mdzs is in part a story about the unreliability of rumors and reputation etc etc. other meta writers than i have explained it better #so for the work to go “all the rumors about wwx were exaggerated/manipulated/not 100% correct.”#“but the rumors about everyone else are 100% true!!!!!”#is peak stupidity. and shit-tier writing #and i actually like mdzs so i would like to believe the writer is more intelligent than that #thus. i conclude in part due to this emotional necessity of mine that there must have been something more going on #anyways. i have similar opinions about the “did jiggy kill rusong” business but that's a post for later #ill probably put my jc torture opinions in their own post some day #yanyan polls

#A great episode tbh especially given the low budget. I feel like they really did their very best #And even though what I'm going to say next is probably going to be all critic - because I nitpick things and that's what I always end up–#talking about - I still want to underline that it was a very solid and enjoyable episode!!!#Alright the ss/kk was so 💞💞💞 every scene I had to rewatch twice or thrice akhscbashfb they're so cute!!!#Except for the riding scene tho. That scene gives me massive second hand embarrassment every time I just wish it will end as fast as–#possible pffttt. Mmmmhhh... The drawings weren't even too bad all accounted. My main complain is about the quicksand scene...#I feel like that one should be a slow quiet emotional scene. I never licked the choice of using the song as background soundtrack :/#I feel like it ruins the mood of the scene (it was still good though)#I also... Generally don't like the direction they seem to go for with Akutagawa's character in the anime‚ he seems quite a bit flatter–#compared to how he is in the manga. He can't be angry and evil ALL the time you need to show that softness get through from time to time.#If not what even is the point of his character. Yet in the anime he's angry (and not distraught) when he loses the mine craft and he's–#angry when he's questioning Atsushi about his motifs and he's angry when he's bragging about Atsushi's abilities to Goncharov and he's–#angry when he makes the promise with Atsushi at the end of the episode and eventually he'll be just as angry even when telling Atsushi–#to run away as he's sacrificing his life for him. It is pretty flat at the end of the day.#If I can say something about K/ensho Ono without being killed I think they do contribute to making him feel angry all the time.#But that said it's all probably poor directing choices (or simply choices I don't agree with).#Also‚ about cuts. Usually I try to be lenient about it– I understand it's hard to fit in everything and b/sd already does a very–#good job by adapting the manga almost panel-by panel. It's just that... You skip Akutagawa showing compassion for Atsushi after the–#orphanage director died. You skip Atsushi sharing the same compassion when Akutagawa loses his targed in the mines chase. You skip the–#“Nothing special about that. // I suppose he's far crueler than my own mentor.” line. And sure each of them may be negligible by their own #But together they wave a consistent web of relationship between the two characters you know? And it's a loss to omit them all #Well no mind. Again it was still a great episode overall!!!!#I think the colors in the mines could have been prettier in the mines but we can't have it all #Off to season 4!!! Omg I can't believe we got this far :DDD #random rambles #FINALLY was able to catch up in time for the season 3 finale!!!!!!

everyone lied to me about the bergman brothers these books are kind of bad

#listen!!! this is my fault because i SHOULD HAVE KNOWN after the dumpster fire that is magnolia parks #btw this is nowhere NEAR that bad #but my point is that people say BOTH are just like the addicted series and those people are STUPID #(sorry if you’re reading this and you’ve ever said that. ily)#like magnolia parks was basically unreadable for me i hated it. and i quite enjoy these bergman books so this is an unfair comparison #also i really love chloe liese’s representation and that goes a long way in saving these books tbh #with both series’ i KNEW i OBVIOUSLY wouldn’t enjoy them as much as the addicted series so i tried to manage my expectations #and yet in the back of my heart i secretly hoped i would finally get that same buzz again #it’s obvious to me that any series where each couple has one standalone book will never even come close #i knew what the vibes of this series would be and i was right. it’s still pretty good but the books aren’t Great #i think the 3rd one about the already married couple will be my favorite but maybe another one of these books will surprise me #of course i ordered them all ahead of time like an idiot 🙃 i never do that and i don’t even like the covers #the reviews for the series are so high i just thought there was no chance of it missing #going straight from my hands to the donation box unfortunately #mine #bergman brothers
