Sorry, most likely my memory being poor, but I thought Malleus' mom (don't know how to spell her name and too lazy to check how to spell it) was already an adult when Lilia ""proposed""?? Like I was always under the assumption that it was like a one-sided child crush on somebody completely out of your league you tend to have as a kid 💀
I don't think they say how old she was? although it's entirely possible I just misunderstood; my Japanese is...shaky. :') the actual line is "幼い頃に私に求婚したのは偽りか?", which I read as "isn't it true that you proposed to me as a kid?", and took as her being older than him, but not necessarily an adult (like, I was thinking of Lilia as being not quite a preteen and Mel being preteen/young teen). although I don't know if there's a connotation or something I'm missing that implies a bigger age gap, if that makes sense!
(and of course, I might also just be forgetting some other line -- if someone else knows, then please correct me! I need to know which headcanons need adjusting 👀)
BUT YEAH in a canon-y sense, Malleus is 178 and around the third-years developmentally. which makes me think that even though dragons have a way longer lifespan, they go through childhood at about the same rate as most fae (or at least the kind that Lilia is) and just kinda...slow waaaaay down once they hit adulthood. so it makes sense in my brain that he and Meleanor could've basically grown up together!
...it makes it angstier that way, anyway. :)

your food allergy and trigger metaphor is incredibly apt not just from your perspective but also from mine because it made me realize that the emotion when I'm told a lemonade has pineapple in it is the same emotion as when a comedy show has an incredibly upsetting murder in the first episode. and that emotion is ".................. why?" But yes. I do agree with you that ppl should assume you're smart enough to know that the japanese detective game from 2000 might have triggers in it. It's like when ppl tell me not to drink something with the word TROPICAL on it in neon. Like yeah thanks I knew that from the everything about it.
LOL yeah like, I enjoy going into games I play completely blind. But completely blind does not equal "completely without context" yknow? Like I am absolutely capable of formulating my own expectations towards something I'm about to experience just based off of either the meta info about that series (release date, studio, target audience, etc) or even just cultural osmosis. And even more importantly, I am also very capable of processing when a piece of media DEFIES those meta expectations, positively or negatively! In fact, some might say that I actually really value the experience of determining why something might put me through that experience at all and that's not something I can fully determine for myself if I'm going in with colored expectations haha.
And like... in my case specifically it's a little bit of bonus frustration cause I straight up like... don't really have triggers when I watch/play/read/etc something? Literally I can think of ONE experience off the top of my head as an adult where I had to go out of my way to pause something I was watching because it triggered an anxiety attack. It was Midnight Mass, and I still came out the other side of that experience LOVING it. Plus, it was literally such a specific and nuanced thing I don't think anyone would have even thought to warn me about LOL like I'm not getting any messages that say "hey penny just so you know this show you're about to watch has a moment that depicts a very particular form of hysteria in the middle of a church building that calls back to a few specific memories you have of your Pentecostal upbringing"
Anyway all this to say... I'M GOOD! You are correct. I do not think that media falls out of a coconut tree.

Dungeon Meshi Quick Reacts: CH44
Tumblr media Tumblr media
How is Senshi the cutest one every time.
Tumblr media
Putting your cat into little outfits energy.
Does she even need a coat? She's got fur...
Tumblr media
eat the little screaming man, izutsumi
Tumblr media
laios really said "my hungry ass would NOT be here if eating monsters turned you into a monster" and Marcille straight up did not catch it. He's a cm away from the edge. He's out here covering himself in oil and running around the campfire, trying to lure werewolves out to bite him. He's simmering himself into soup. Wake up. Laios has the more complex nonsexual vore kink ever.
Tumblr media
.......why is her troupe trying not to use her name? I wonder if there's something specific about that. It wasn't just a nickname?
Tumblr media
Awww, dad's all tuckered out.
Tumblr media
I know I'm probably meant to find Izutsumi relatable on a childish level but I'm gonna be honest here. Her character hits too close to home where spoiled people are concerned for me to harbor any level of affection for her. I can understand how she might be beloved but man. Everything she says makes my eye twitch. If she were legitimately a child, it would be understandable. But she seems to be a young adult. At which point like. If you don't like the circumstances.... leave? Just leave. Just walk away if you don't want to eat their food. What are you yelling for? 😂 You joined THEM. They ain't forcing you to do shit. But instead of peacing out you're just screaming at them like a toddler.
Although to a point, I can understand her motivations. I understand how she has come this far, being so feral. I get WHY she is the way she is. But man. These guys are so patient with her.
Tumblr media
I'm sorry wh. What.
Tumblr media
Oh, I'm sure that's FINE.
Tumblr media
Oh, yeah, for sure. That's perfectly fine.
Tumblr media
When I said walk away - yeah, that's exactly what I meant. But Marcille and the others are chasing after her, so I guess... they don't agree. 😅
Tumblr media
Child.......................... ah, nevermind. It's not even worth it.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Okay, the cutaway from the heartfelt selfless message to a cat just going 'ah, well, fuck it, I don't care' WAS kinda funny actually.
Tumblr media
This is hilarious because in Japanese, the word order (SOV) means the translation here is incorrect. I mean, it's correct for what matters. But while the English phrase is 'close your eyes' then Japanese sentence is '目 を つぶって' which is literally EYES (ACC. particle) CLOSE!!
Tumblr media
I love Marcille. She's a wimp, but she's the strongest wimp I know.
Tumblr media
Laios:
Wolves: Man, I don't think I want to have whatever HE'S having.
Tumblr media
So....is it.... like meat.... or is it like a vegetable...???
Tumblr media
the fucking STYLE SHIFT
Listen, Tade is earning her thighs. Leave her alone.
Tumblr media
Izutsumi and Chilchuk can bond over being babied by the other three.

Cool Kanji Party Tricks
Or “How I Use Kanji to Impress My Friends”
Learning kanji can be daunting, especially for those just starting out in their Japanese studies. There are two thousand standard kanji needed to read a newspaper, but Japanese people know and use many thousands more. There are several methods available to self study kanji (just do a quick Google search to find the most popular), but any serious study of kanji takes time. Lots of time. It can feel like studying kanji over and over is a waste of time, especially since you have the internet at your fingertips to look things up at any time. However, I really believe that having a good foundation in kanji is essential to mastering Japanese, and I wanted to share what I call "cool party tricks" to encourage you in your kanji studies.
Tumblr media
What are "cool kanji party tricks"? This is just a list of things I have noticed that having a solid understanding of kanji will allow you to do. I have been studying Japanese for more than 10 years, and most of these things I just noticed one day in an a-ha moment, and even though someone had told me for years that learning and practicing kanji is important, it took several realizations for me to truly grasp what that meant. I would say that many of these require an intermediate grasp of the language to be able to use consistently, but I think that you can start doing any of these after achieving a basic foundation in the Japanese language.
So when your hand is cramped from writing the same kanji for hours, when on'yomi and kun'yomi have become swear words, and when you lost that one little point on the exam because the kanji you were supposed to use was only off by one stroke from the kanji you actually used... I hope you will remember this post and feel a little bit encouraged.
Find the appropriate kanji to use when typing in the romaji/hiragana on a computer/phone
Since I started my Japanese studies during high school, the formal classes I was taking had me writing out kanji for homework in order to remember it and to be able to pass the quizzes and exams. So I spent many hours writing out kanji only to end up with hand cramps and ugly looking written characters. It took ages and the stream of kanji that I had to learn seemed endless. However, one benefit I quickly saw was that I was able to quickly adapt to typing in Japanese on a computer/phone because I was able to correctly identify the kanji that I had practiced, and knew which one to select when several choices came up.
In Japanese, many words have the same sounds but different kanji and meanings (these are called homophones). So when you type in the hiragana or romaji for a word into the keyboard, it will prompt you with a list of kanji to choose from. Being able to correctly select the right one is something I suddenly realized I could do one day, even if I hadn't used the word often. I knew and could recall a larger number of kanji than I thought, and I could eliminate any incorrect kanji for the word I was trying to use. Having a good solid foundation in kanji characters means that you don't have to go look up every word in the dictionary to check that you have the right kanji, and you also don't have to leave the word in kana because you can't guess the right kanji, but rather you are confident enough to pick the correct kanji for the word on your own. This makes typing more efficient and saves time!
Understand the meaning of a word just by looking at the kanji
When you know a significant amount of kanji and what they mean, sometimes when you encounter new compound words you can guess at what they mean. Or if you are like me and sometimes forget how to read words you are already supposed to know, you can magically relearn them by looking at the kanji and interpreting the meaning. So sometimes when I am reading text in Japanese and I see a compound I don't know, I can interpret the meaning from context and from my understanding of the individual kanji, and continue through the text without stopping to look up the word. This helps you to get the gist of a text without having to look up all the words, and is how you can start reading more advanced books or manga.
Guess at the pronunciation of a word from the kanji
On the flip side of the previous cool party trick is being able to guess how to pronounce a word by knowing the on'yomi and kun'yomi of the kanji, and therefore being able to guess at the pronunciation of a word. Unless the word has 人 or 生 in it. This helps most when reading out loud in class or to another person. It will also help you to feel smug about yourself while reading a book that is of a more advanced level and being able to determine the reading of several compound words in a row.
Understanding a new word using kanji clues
As an extension of the previous cool party tricks, I eventually reached the point where I could hear a word in conversation that I had never heard before, and figure out the meaning using kanji clues.
For example, not all Japanese people know English (shocking, right?), and busting out your phone to look up every single word you don't know can become burdensome in continuing the flow of a conversation. So, if I hear a word that I don't know during a conversation (and the continuation or flow of the conversation hinges on my understanding of the word), I will stop the person and either ask what kanji the word is written with, or if I have a guess I will ask "is this using the kanji for X?" This way I can gain clues to the key word without stopping the flow of conversation too much. (It's also a fun way to show off to Japanese speakers.)
For example, if you hear the word jishin (じしん) in conversation, and you aren't sure which meaning the speaker intended:
自信 self-confidence
自身 one's self
You can ask:
"Did you mean 自信 (jishin) with the "shin" from 信用 (shin'you) or did you mean 自身 (jishin) with the "mi" (another pronunciation of 身) as in one's body?"
Then the person can respond:
"Oh, I mean 身 (mi)! As in, 自分自身 (jibun jishin), or one's self."
Then, you can continue the conversation, having an understanding of what the speaker is saying and not having to take out your phone to translate as often. This also can give the person you are speaking to a better sense of your level and help them to tailor the conversation to you.
[I hope this conveys what I am trying to illustrate ^.^]
TL;DR: Kanji is Fun
Honestly, when kanji clicks and you can read words or understand their meanings, it's like deciphering a secret code, and this is one of the things I find so cool about Japanese, and why I have studied it for so long. So if you are just starting out and are daunted by kanji - don't worry. I am still daunted by kanji, but I also find it a useful tool to improve my knowledge of Japanese and to communicate in a way many people cannot. I hope this information was useful and inspires you to suffer through learn more kanji.

やばい Alternatives | Vocab
Step 1 of 「伝える力」 が伸びる! 12歳までに知っておきたい語彙力図鑑 focuses on teaching you synonyms for words you would typically use to describe your emotions. There are synonyms for words like やばい, エモい, and the like. This particular post will focus on the information that they've given about やばい。
The book also ranks the words' difficulty level, with 1 star being an "of course you know this" to 5 stars being "even adults probably don't know this and you're about to blow them away with your vocabulary and make them pull out their dictionary." Because of this, you may see words that you encountered quickly as a Japanese learner (that a native speaker 12 year old may not have encountered yet) and vice versa on the list below.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
やばい
Because やばい is a word that can be used to express nearly any emotion (much like how OMG can be used in many contexts in American English), the book did also make sure to put the contexts in which the alternative word would be appropriate.
危うい (あやうい)- dangerous; in danger; facing imminent danger ❖This is to be used when dangerous situations are imminent. The way they described it was "危険が迫っている状態" ▶︎Their example: 危うい所でピンチを脱出した。
危険 (きけん)- dangerous; risky; uncertain; precarious; in danger ❖This is to be used when a situation may lead to not-so-good/dangerous outcomes. ▶︎Their example: そんなに高い所からジャンプしたら、危険だよ。
驚異的 (きょういてき)- wonderful; astounding; marvelous ❖This is to be used when something passes a level of surprise that you can express. ▶︎Their example: 大谷選手の達成した記録は驚異的だ。
最高 (さいこう)- best; supreme; wonderful; highest; maximum; supreme ❖This is to be used when describing something of the highest status/dignity/ranking. (This is relative in comparison to other things.) ▶︎Their example: 夏休みに友達と見に行った映画が、最高に面白かった。
素晴らしい (すばらしい)- wonderful; splendid; magnificent ❖ This is used to describe something that's elegant/praiseworthy/splendid, things that are desirable, and things that admirable. ▶︎Their example: 富士山の山頂から眺める景色は、息をのむほどに素晴らしい。
Yojijukugo (四字熟語)
This section also includes four-character compound idioms (yojijukugo) that can be associated with the word we're focusing on expanding our vocabulary from.
絶体絶命 (ぜったいぜつめい)- desperate situation with no escape; being driven into a corner; being cornered; last extremity ❖ You would use this when you find yourself in a situation that there's no conceivable way you could think of making it out in the way that you truly desire. ▶︎Apparently you can use it in phrases like this 「絶体絶命のピンチ」 BONUS: I found an example online that also uses it to mean "stalemate" and the example is a cop and a suspect both pointing a gun at each other.
最上無二 (さいじょうむに)- there is nothing else like it in this world; it's an unparalleled marvel ❖They listed this one at 5 stars (aka, the adults are gonna be surprised that you know this and also go look it up) and I can certainly see why--I couldn't find any official English translations of it. Here's the definition the book gave: この世に二つとなく、最もすばらしいこと。「最上」は最もすぐれていること、「無二」は同じ物がないことを意味するよ。
SOMEONE PLEASE CORRECT ME IF MY UNDERSTANDING OF THIS LAST YOJIJUKUGO IS INCORRECT SO THAT I CAN LEARN IT PROPERLY!! I BESEECH THEE!! I IMPLORE YOU!!
Anyways, the next post will be alternatives words for かわいい and エグい

I was wondering what Tim's racial traits are? Because I know that Bruce is Jewish, Dick is Romani, Jason is possibly Latino (I don't know if it's canon but his own traits wouldn't change because Latinos are very diverse, some may be white… The Latina who lives in Latam speaks uwu) , Cass is Asian, I think Chinese?, Babs is possibly white, Duke is Afro-American, Alfred is obviously British, Steph is white and Damian is mixed Arab-Jewish.
This is because I have seen him portrayed as white, Jewish or Asian, specifically Chinese, Japanese or Cambodian. I also love the possibility that the Batfam is a target of the Pro American (Damian would be a frequent victim) and Neo Nazis (Here they put everyone in the bag , even Tim if he were a white man the Nazis also persecuted homosexuals) and I feel that it would be something that would unite them as a family because it would be them against the world sjfshsaj and DC is a coward, possibly they put those things. and i lov your work uwu
Hello! I've seen a ton of cool AUs that portray him (and more specifically his mom) from different backgrounds, but I believe he is canonically white.
For Tim, I've seen some posts mentioning that some comic book creator was going to make him Jewish. They never quite added that into canon (his dad is atheist and his mom is implied to be Catholic), but that might be another reason why he's been portrayed as Jewish or other cultural backgrounds in AUs. Personally, it's rad to see how his storyline, characterization, or choices may or may not change or be affected by changing his upbringing, cultural background, or race. I've seen some cool AUs with Red Room or Russian decent Tim Drake.
I'm honestly not positive on Jason. I don't think DC quite confirmed a specific ethnicity for him, but he's implied to be white. I was trying to find anything that mentioned it, and someone talked about how, when he was researching who his bio mom is, he seriously considered Lady Shiva. This could indicate that he's racially ambiguous.
I personally hc him to be a third or fourth generation immigrant on his dad's side. This, in the hc, could be examined for how his dad may face social and structural barriers to obtaining work. Combined with his dad becoming a father at a young age (anywhere from 18 to 23), Willis was forced to find illegal work just to pay his bills for his family. At least, that's my hc if we're going with a good parent Willis.
You are correct that the Waynes, due to their mixed backgrounds, may face hate or be targeted by hate groups. Barbara may also be included with this due to her visible disability (I hc that some of the Waynes have, at the very least, some invisible disabilities). If we're going strictly off of canonically proven backgrounds/traits, Tim would face hate for being openly bisexual.
I am not aware of any hate groups residing within Gotham. I could 100% be wrong about that. There is the possibility of eugenicists, anti-meta groups, and supremacists (especially in positions of power) existing in Gotham. On the other hand, some of the Rogues would probably decimate those groups if they tried to root themselves in Gotham. That city is chaotic, but I love the hc that the Bats and some rogues (like Harley, Riddler, and Ivy) protect Pride events and other such gatherings. I find it more healing to think about the Rogues, despite being mass murders, drawing the line at being a bigot.
I've seen some fics that chat about the Waynes coming to Damian's defense when he's being racially targeted at school or galas. I haven't seen any for the Waynes as a whole being targeted by hate groups, but that is a possibility to explore. At the very least, there may be some awful shit online that Barbara stumbles across (even if the users aren't based in Gotham due to the Waynes being famous).
I'm glad that you enjoy my work! Stay safe, everyone, and fuck the pieces of shits that hate folks for being themselves.

things about isagi yoichi
i'm keeping a list about isagi for reasons (mostly personal amusement) (please do feel free to add or correct them). contains possible spoiler for manga up to chapter 230 so far and light novel. will get longer, probably, as time goes on. (update, it gets longer and up to uber match ending as of today.)
considerate. almost like a people pleaser. actual people pleaser at first.
pragmatic. thinks very calmly, even when angry it seems, but his words still sometimes get too much.
think things through, sometimes too much.
is confident, but not unaware of his own weaknesses
start pretty insecure.
seems to be sheepish - happy when someone praise / support / pay a large attention to him (pretty humble) (interview, that one kid in station, his family)
how he acts depends on who he is interacting with
switch to a more polite speech pattern whenever nervous (pretty obvious in japanese text, like in the interview scene after bm vs mc).
seems to be less competent on other things other than soccer
looking at his favorite manga / song / shows (most are medias with children as the main audience in mind), either really loves his childhood or doesn’t pay attention to many things after soccer. seems like the latter.
a really healthy family dynamics. his parents are very supportive of his dream.
loves katsu curry.
is a pretty 'normal' high school guy it seems. tissues near the bed, thigh fetish, read manga. speaks normally.
i really don't get why he has a habit of making sure his ahoges stand up in v before a match but god thats cute.
can be really rude and impatient sometimes
is good with people, but seems to enjoy alone time too. seems to be an introvert.
at least on screen, never really talk about how it was in ichinan with the blue lock guys. either it didn't bother him that much consciously or is the type of person who gets along with everyone but no one really knows the background of in details. (put it simply might be more introverted than he appears to be, especially considering how he usually is with people)
seems to be uncomfortable with new people in his personal space (early bachira + kaiser)
while doesn’t ‘like’ rude people, seems to grow ‘used’ to them and even openly admire them (barou + rin)
does not seems to easily prejudice / be judgmental to someone. is really patient (respect to barou, that one chapter with tada from ichinan, still praises kaiser despite the antagonism between them)
his fashion sense is pretty... this is very subjective as i don't have the word for it yet, but yeah, is either not good or pretty old fashioned. (in anime official arts)
when it comes to soccer often looks angrier expression wise
really egoistic. unsurprisingly.
sometimes is pretty self centered in the way that “this is my fault” sometimes, rather than focusing on someone else. but most of the time his self centeredness comes out as “i want this and i will get this”.
on some moments also seems to focus more on what he is not satisfied with rather than what he is satisfied with. might be caused by the storytelling beats, but if taken into consideration how he always wants to improve, it's not unsurprising.
seems to be more goal / result oriented, but is not dismissive towards the process.
whenever he sees someone better than him or something seems to be ‘impossible’ for him, most of the time his responds are ‘i have to work harder for it’. sometimes there are moments of insecurity, but they are fleeting and always went back to ‘i will overcome this / him’ as a respond.
very!!!! competitive. but it’s blue lock.
both in and outside soccer, seems to be very independent
seems to be more analytical by nature rather than intuitive, especially in learning style. complete opposite of nagi.
often starts noticing things from little things and details first before going and getting the bigger picture. detail oriented person? at least in soccer.
yeah soccer nerd.
if the 0 valentine choco, his reaction to seeing live two women getting played in karaoke, and how he didn't immediately went to girls in bowling alley—yeah. definitely 0 experience with girls.
is not wishy washy. knows what he wants and is not the type to change his preference because of his surroundings. did just act as if his preference is different / just doesn't say a thing or walk away when it isn't, back in ichinan these habits are obvious. in blue lock, he doesn't actively try to make other people uncomfortable and even still accommodate some out of the field, but clearly has become more outspoken in his preference or for his comfort. boy really grew more confident (and i love him for it).
he asks santa for ps4 and other than yeah normal highschool boy behavior idk how to dissect or overanalyze this yet give me a sec or a year.
like treats!!!! seems to be partial to sweets, but he also enjoys sour candies according to egoist bible.
doesn't like being ignored. and it kinda shows.
his beef with kaiser is hilarious—but it make sense because kaiser obviously bring it up even out of field (that locker room scene after yukimiya isagi argument), taunts isagi every chance he got (vs barcha, vs mc), and whatever happened in the match. isagi better than some bluelockers and me fr frfr considering he still did not try to punch kaiser's mug.
which bring the point doesn't seems to enjoy fistfight. either shitty at it or just chose not too. but looking at his trend of being shitty at things that are not soccer and his canonically low stats especially before blue lock. yeah might be shit at fistfight (with also a bit of the latter because how do one not try to sock kaiser in the face after *gestures wildly* all that. footnote, i admit the bias). (karaoke, shidou vs rin duking it out pt.1—my guy was dying and he wasn't the one duking it out)
tidy, but not overly tidy to barou level. but realistically comparing it to stereotypes of high school boys? real tidy. (could be seen in blue lock exhib's display of his u20 arc locker and team white bedroom)
wants lil sis or big sis because of my neighbor totoro. idk how to dissect this either but—yeah not a rare thing for an only kid to say, actually.
seems to be more of a street smart kinda guy.
his tenacity in befriending or at least interacting with rin is admirable. shipping lense or not it really is.
he gets along with almost everyone. shipping lenses or not, also amazing especially for an introvert.
he says the wildest shit on field like uh yeah things he said with yukimiya was said to be cencored a little because in jp someone said he was calling yukimiya something else i don't know to say in english.
but is actually not an absolute asshole in field, saw yukimiya broke down and bro actually took a second to pay attention and moved on. until he got provoked, that is.
actually rarely become the one who approach other people first (kira, bachira).
can really got extreme when in high tension (shoving chigiri off, that 100℅ kill you @ kaiser).
turns out he talks about the thigh stuff bashfully. (it's cute.) but i still wonder why he likes lobster. like i feel like something is there. why is his taste in everything that is not soccer makes me wonder what the fuck is up with him. favorite song? cm jingle. fashion sense? honestly casual, but his sense in pattern and color is genuinely so bad im hurting. this point is so full of personal bias feel free to skip it.
seems to be pretty oblivious to things about not-soccer. especially his surroundings. not to the dense point but seems like it stems more from his focus at soccer. but this trait seems to go hand in hand with his self centered tendencies.
(this is bordering to hc, but) it seems like while is indeed obsessed with soccer, more than "oh he is only good at soccer", is more of a "if he wants it he will find a way to get it". but taking in account how his personality used to be in ichinan / pre blue lock, it's unsurprising that he doesn't want that mamy things. even in soccer that he is passionate about, he didn't back then. there is also the fact that he seems to have tendency to hyperfocus into something (i.e.: while still taking into account of others in soccer, think more of them as 'factors' than 'people'), so it may seems like the reason he got or became good at something is like "oh isagi is lucky / specialized in that", but it seems hard work and dedication really does put a big role into it, unsurprisingly. could reach that level in soccer because he is dedicated into it, tldr.
this part also became quite visible if taking into account he wants to play specifically as a striker. he is focused in this very specific thing he wants, that's why he managed to get it / improve in it.
if i did not miscount, he directly has a conversation with ego twice. and in both he is extremely impolite, calling ego names in one (u20 arc). while the other happened after he lost against rin in 4v4, and seems like he is still not happy with the loss. ans it shows. he is pretty rude when ego talk about luck which he himself noted was a big factor there. (man hold grudge.)
so yeah, seems like rather than "possessed in field" it could also be "possessed in everything related to soccer", though fudther research is to be conducted.
is pretty introverted even in blue lock. while sometimes he shares his insight to other people about his play, sometimes he also did not do this (recently you can see this the most in his interactions with ness). but yeah, this is the thing he shares about the most, something related to playmaking and soccer. but other than that nothing—at least on screen.
his pretty peaceful and uneventful background could be factored into, however ichinan highschool is pretty much his tragic backstort and not a peep about that to even bachira it seems. a possibility is that he is hyperfocused towards soccer. not to say his self centered part that is more of "what can i change about myself for this situation" and "i can't change others' way of thinking".
however seeing how that one meeting tada goes (post u20 break) and he said nothing to correct tada, even though he secretly disagrees—then also his parents who seems pretty oblivious to his soccer performance and how he casually acted about his lost against kira despite crying and screaming on public just before that—yeah, seems like a pretty private person. it's not that he is oblivious or do it out of malice, but mostly seems like he just doesn't comment about it and more of the listening type. and even when someone close ask the right question it seems like he doesn't try to show much expression or how he actually feels.
personal bias but yeah this is no longer """being polite""", this is actually being private to a very concerning degree. like the time he opened up about his worry, and still pretty related with soccer, that is completely visibly vulnerable seems like it was with nagi after 3v3 with rin (and see how that ended up. tho this make the fact that he and nagi became pretty close afterwards in such a short time a bit unsurprising. this two indeed kinda have quite a lot bonding moments outside and inside the field, shipping lens or not). like no wonder this guy snaps in soccer field, it's pent emotions fr.
but if how he is after u20 any indication, it seems like he really is very reserved outside of field that it kind of resembles how he was before blue lock. (who knows after nel arc (still bm vs uber rn when i write this, tho the match seems like ending), because boy seems grumpier there. not blaming him tho, it's battle royale inside that team.)
doing a little skimming but it seems like when talking about something he really never put focus on his feelings. it's either what's going on, others' feelings, or an opinion of his but if there are any feelings most of them stays in monologue and thoughts only.
adding to that nagi note, personally found it funny that he nearly get into same team with nagi TWICE (pre u20 team selection, nel choice where he is conflicted between german or england) but he never followed thru with it. this probably has more to do with nagi's motif & such rather than his, which this post wasn't here for sry nagi, and the fact that both that they are protagonists in the main and spinoff. but yeah, personally? it's funny it happened twice. especially factoring the fact they are close enough to have each other's number and isagi admits he has a nice chemical reaction with nagi.
i genuinely wonder how he interacts with kaiser outside of field. like. dude. i know it's funny.
might also add now that it seems the four people he is closest with is bachira and chigiri. was, with kunigami too but yeah. bachira especially, with the two keep being called two side of a coin/a soul. again, shipping lens or not, they are pretty close and isagi really seems to have come to a point where he is okay with bachira's habits no matter how odd. (personal bias, really sweet considering bachira has no friends before this and isagi while is friend with tada WE KNOW HOW IT ALL TURNS OUT). with chigiri, seems like the type of friends who look out for each other (isagi once shown checking his knee and messaging him, while chigiri is the first one jumping into action when shidou nearly kicked him). then you also add that chigiri only ever, on screen at least, opened up about his past to isagi and honestly yeah. shipping lens or not, these two definitely the looking after each other dynamic. kunigami come back, or at least interact with isagi more pls.
WHICH ALSO, seems like isagi is the only one reo kind of opened up to with his insecurities after the 2nd selection—kunigami and chigiri seems to get it too, but at least it was never shown on screen that he opened up the more vulnerable side of his anger at nagi and isagi to them. these two has a pretty good relationship it seems after that screening room scene. (might revise or at to this when epi nagi reach this part)
but this seems unsurprising in some ways because isagi really seems like the listening type. some people said these type of people is good when it comes to getting people opening up. also seems like isagi really never run his mouth so good choice actually. (look at him even he doesnt open up his own emotion how could he do that with other people's emotion. what is this a sign of pent emotion or just a sign of actual limited emotional intelligence when it came to processing them? who knows. blue lock's highly stressful and intense environment is also a factor here but hey, look at how isagi was in ichinan. might be old habits)
he is scarily cold and detached to his bonds when it came to soccer, it seems? like, he is still capable of sympathy even during the heat of the moment, unless you make him angry (both cases: yukki). but for the sake of his play his priority really is on "this is the play that i want" rather than friendships and stuff. on one side, professionality. on the other, yeah egoist.
outside of field doesn't seem to go out of his way to dig up about someone's backstory in "asking and digging and wanting to talk about feelings with them", but will listen if told. (i.e. chigiri acl convo, reo opening up, casually talking about soccer again after noa ego relationship bomb drop, etc.) seems to be more as 'minding his own business and being not nosy', which is kind of in line with his politeness.
then you bring soccer and his ideal play and it gets really cold. he really think of soccer as 'cruel' and it kind of shows with how little he thinks of outside-of-field-relation during a game. (really shows if you compare how most characters personal story, rin and reo for example, has a huge impact on their play) his brain really has an on and off switch with the niceness.
at some point in blue lock, his closest circle is bachira, chigiri, kunigami (could be canon or could be due to the fact these four are kind of the quadruplet of bllk). he is pretty much the guy most of everyone knows and has at least spoken with once after u20 tho.
but other than those 4, it seems that the one he have more highlighted rivalry are niko, barou, rin, and nagi, with yukimiya coming in later in bm. it's funny how isagi seems pretty attached to them in a pretty friendly manner in some ways. barou and rin is just on another level of "i will kill you" getting answered with "sure, okay, geez" (and it's hilarious. with barou, isagi shared meals, was a roommate, and went bowling together once. with rin, he did yoga, laughed at his death threat, and was pissed because rin was impolite. i can go on but moving on). nagi and isagi canonically get along pretty well out of screen. isagi is roommate with yukimiya—i didn't except this combo back then but i really want to know their interactions in that room, especially during and after their conflict.
then there is hiyori, kurona, and nanase's case whose relationship with him is more on the 'supporting side'. with reo, it seems to also fall into the rivalry category—but this guy's relationship with isagi is kind of more about reo-nagi relationship than with isagi himself. with aiku, it's rivalry between defender and attacker (resembles niko the most but the things these two said to each other is way wilder). then there is kaiser—i will wait til nel arc is done.
there are crumbs with some other charas like sae—but these two didn't interact (yet?) in canon. with noa, it's admiration and respect, to put it simply, but it seems it's leaning more into actual mentorship that is more casual compared to how most of bm is with noa (imo, take this part with a grain of salt). with ego, it's...surprisingly complicated on a meta level from my perspective at least.
isagi clearly agrees and thrives with ego's philosophy, but other than taking ego's words/guidance isagi was rude to him. then there is stuff like some part of their design being similar to each other (v hair, eyes on some panels tho this also happens with other charas, beta isagi sketch) and how during nel ego - isagi similarities get commented by noa and snuffy (tho on snuffy case is more of barou - isagi is like ego - noa, who is who tho we don't know for sure). it feels like there is more on these two for the future.
with his family, it's just sweet. his family is proud and supportive of him. and seeing how isagi is pretty independent as in his attachment style is very secure in blue lock, even with how ichinan basically turned him into a people pleaser, yeah definitely and canonically a good family there. he greets them every morning as part of his morning routine, and he is the only character who mention this in said trivia.
enjoys his alone time, based on his trivia. the introvert part is loud and clear.
he doesn't really get jealous easily. like rather than envy, it's more of frustration directed towards himself or straight up being pissed because said someone played a factor in why he couldn't make a goal. but most of the time, when he sees someone's strength, it came out more as an admiration and "i should do more and stand out more too!!!" rather than comparing himself and feels negativity. this especially never happen to his perception towards his capabilities. the closest thing we ever get to him feeling envy is perhaps the parts where he goes "i don't have weapon like them" when talking about chigiri's speed, kaiser impact, and others' specialities. but even then it never really lingers.
and from that probably also shows that isagi is really good at looking someone's strength or specialities. but this seems to also happen in looking at weaknesses and chances. he really does tries to take into account tendencies, skills, blind spots, etc. honestly thinking about this make sense why he immediately collapsed after vs mc, the information loading must be insane. but all in all, the main point is that he is pretty good at reviewing and observing stuffs indeed.
high achiever with an amazing durability. as said word by word by kaiser himself, this guy look at something way more amazing than himself and keep taking it as a challenge. aka his mental strength is insane—or his competitiveness is just that crazy. no wonder he thrives in blue lock where so many people want to him eat alive.
after thinking for a bit and connecting it with the 'not teaming with nagi during the u20 tryouts', it seems like also the guy who avoids his comfort zone, in area of skills and plays in this case. he seems to actively challenge himself.
seriously the type of guy who do and chase what he wants. egoist indeed.
but thinking about that, it also speaks of his adaptability and flexibility. while the part that definitely carries more tension, seriousness, and definitely didn't take shit came out so much in soccer, the way he interacts with those who are friendly with him is so different with those who are antagonistic with him. though so far, with the exception of kaiser it seems, he at some point ended up in a pretty good relationship with some of those—rin and barou are most telling. the antagonism is back on when they are in seperate team tho, but hey this is blue lock.
his moment of satisfaction is really fast—as in he like cheers for a bit, most of the time, then focus on the next challenge. this could be caused by: 1) blue lock highly competitive and rapidly changing environment; 2) it's just how he is build.

What’s been the most fun and/or challenging part of working on the wiki? Also is there anything that still needs to be worked on that other people can help with?
THE CODE KILLED ME. So the wiki has a template that automagically puts this cool little Wikipedia help thingy next to Japanese text (the "?" on the end) in infoboxes and by command in text using some {{wiggly boys}} code:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
And we wanted to try to get the Korean stuff on the wiki too because it's the second most officially supported language behind English and there's a bunch of cool exclusive Korean GG stuff no one's ever documented before. But there wasn't a module like this to help out with Korean text like there is for Japanese text.
I put one together based on the Japanese template's code and it was a nightmare. I was fighting for my life in the template trenches. It works though!! I did get it after a while!!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Mostly.
Shoutout to the Final Fantasy Wiki for the original JP template code and to the Dragon Blaze Wiki for seemingly being the only other English language wiki out there that cares about Korean text lol I don't know anything about Korean writing beyond super basic stuff (like what "hangul" is) so I had to do research into that alongside trying to learn wiki code.
The most fun part was probably getting GG World together, honestly. We couldn't believe that no one had actually transcribed those anywhere online before. Well, there was a file compiled by Lux for Revelator, but we wanted to transcribe these as-presented in the games and we couldn't use Lux's file since the goofy typos and some lore oopsies had been edited haha
Toxic and Elk have hauled ass getting those entries ripped and added. Major shoutout to them. I got the base layouts together and they went to town lol It's so cool seeing it all together now. We even started getting the official languages besides English and Korean added for Strive too.
As for what someone could do to help........ There's.... a lot...... Of the 4,532 image files currently on the wiki, only a very small handful of them were organized into categories when we forked. Here's the page of all the files currently not in a category: https://guiltygear.wiki.gg/wiki/Special:UncategorizedFiles
And all of the image categories they need to be sorted into. Note the subcategories under some of them: https://guiltygear.wiki.gg/wiki/Category:Images
I think I made the correct amount of categories for stuff but there may be one missing here or there. There were a lot and it was hard keeping track of them lol Feel free to holler at me on here or on my talk page over on the wiki if you need something made. I'm solradguy on the wiki.
These major character pages are also either entirely lacking citations or only have maybe 1 or 2 on the entire page (bad!!): Johnny, Chipp, Kliff, Baiken, Venom, Jam, Robo-Ky, Slayer, Sin, Izuna, Dr. Paradigm, Valentine, Bedman?, Answer, Haehyun, Elphelt, Giovanna, Happy Chaos, Asuka R♯
Swapping out the vague "GG World" citations on the wiki with the correct entry would be very helpful too. Like some pages will cite something and it just says "GG World" instead of " 'Axl Low' Xrd Rev2 GG World entry" or whatever relevant entry is needed.
If you know Korean, we also need to have the romaja added for the GG World entries. None of us knows Korean well enough to do that so not a single one has it filled in lol.... We were planning on using Revised Romanization of Korean since it's the official South Korean romanization system but if there's one that's more commonly used/accepted that's cool too (like how Hepburn is used for Japanese more often than the official Kunrei-shiki romanization)

here's a short scenario
there's a new student in your class, he possesses peculiar-looking eyes, resembling those of a cat, paired with lengthy layered white/silver hair. His skin is white as milk even appearing soft like silk when he passes you to sit down.
you don't mean to ogle at him but he was such an interesting character, a guy you've never seen before. And he sat right beside you?!
he was quiet, ignoring the teachers' attention when he started teaching. Everyone seemed drawned to him as well, who wouldn't though?
he appeared out of nowhere and didn't say much only thing everyone saw was him giving the teacher a note and finding his seat. You wondered what that note was taking a peek over at him.
but your eyes quickly dart away when he looks your way. Your face warms up, just embarrassed he almost or did catch you so you decide to focus on the work.
to take your mind off this mysterious person.
after the lesson and the bell ringing you quickly gather your things, about to leave when the teacher stops you.
your confused and a little on edge, did you do something wrong? Catch you doing something you weren't supposed to be doing? Despite your nervous demeanor, you kept a solemn face and listened carefully.
but your expression changed once you found out why he wanted to speak to you in the first place.
"if you can obviously, I'm not forcing you.. but you do speak different languages one including Japanese, correct?" Your teacher asks. You nod, still processing his request.
"you can think about it, I'm not familiar with any student who speaks that language that is why I spoke to you but if you know anyone please do tell me if you don't want to do this." He walks away, leaving you by your desk.
you're a bit conflicted, wondering if you could actually do this or not. You look over at the desk the new student sat and to your surprise he was still there.
about to leave in fact, but you stop him.
your hand reaches his shoulder to get his attention and you speak to him in his language after a bit of hesitation due to nervousness.
"あなたの名前は何ですか?" (what's your name?) you ask, removing your hand away. He looks a little shocked by how well you spoke in Japanese which was probably understandable.
you stood nervously, waiting for his response.
"killua.."
"killua?" You repeat, surprised at such a pretty but peculiar name. You two lock eyes for a brief moment before you break it to clear your throat.
"私の名前は Y/n そして..私はあなたを案内するためにここにいます" (my name is y/n and.. I'm here to guide you) a smile tugs your lips, it's polite and gentle as you look at him.
your life was pretty boring at the moment.. maybe helping this student— Killua would be pretty fun, maybe you two could become friends?
plus if you were to help him there's a possibility you could get extra credit.. right? (^_^;)

Hi! So, I saw that you have your requests for bakugou x reader open?
(I honestly have no idea how this works, this is my first time asking for something like this, so pardon me if I phrase anything wrong)
Could you perhaps write smth for a pro hero bakugou and an interpreter reader, who has just enough of a bite to work with the guy? Like, when he goes international level and has to interact with foreign media a lot and bonds with the reader over work??
That would be lovely, and if you don't like the request feel free to ignore!
Thank you for being my first request!! This was an awesome idea and i really hope I did it justice! I thinkkk I kinda took a couple liberties of my own though

Lost In Interpretation
Out of all the people you’ve had to work with, and you’ve worked with a lot over the years of being an interpreter, you had to say Dynamight was probably the hardest to get along with.
You couldn’t stand the guys attitude. Sure, you found him attractive– who didn’t? – but he made your job so much harder with his foul mouth.
That’s not what truly makes it hard, though. It’s his incessant demands to translate the foul stuff he says. Others understand you need to maintain professionalism or the magazines and stations you help translate for have certain censorships and with a bashful smile they’ll apologize and correct themselves.
But when you told Dynamight he couldn’t curse the way he does?
“Eh? I’m 25 years old, I’m gonna fuckin’ curse if I want to. And ain't your job to just translate what I say? So translate.”
“No, actually.”
“Hah?”
“I don’t translate what you say, I interpret it. There’s a clear distinction between translators and interpreters, and I just won’t allow myself to repeat what you say! So fix your language!”
So much for professionalism.
You breathe in and out a little heavily and can feel your face begin to burn. Dynamight has the gall to smirk at you like the situation was humorous.
“Is that right?”
And, without even knowing it, you sealed your fate to months of somehow always being assigned to him and his desire to fuck with you.
It became like a game, it seemed. To be as dirty-mouthed as possible and watch you practically grow red in the face as you had to interpret what he said to the poor people interviewing him. It was getting almost ridiculous how many interviews Dynamight was agreeing to, and you were sure you could count how many he did before you met on one hand in all his pro-hero career. You hated to admit it, but you liked the idea of him agreeing to them to be with you. As if you somehow caught the attention of a rising pro-hero. Of Bakugo Katsuki himself.
But there was no way he was agreeing to interviews just for that, right?
Right. You couldn't be that vain.
It was on one of these days, however, that the pro-hero himself stopped you from leaving your current workplace.
“Wait a second, will ya?” You hear a familiar voice call behind you as you walk towards the elevator. You turn around and are met with Dynamight.
You wait patiently for some sort of follow up, but you realize you’re not getting one when he stares at you. He looks a bit constipated, but he’s typically pretty grumpy.
“Yes?” You try to subtly push.
He grunts. “This is fuckin’ stupid. Look, are you single?”
“Am I… single?” You repeat, slowly, like you don’t know Japanese all too well. Suddenly the years spent becoming fluent in the language feel like only a couple days, or a 10-minute video for tourists wanting to learn a couple phrases. Your legs feel a little weak, too.
“Don’t make me repeat myself. This is damn embarrassing.”
“Why? Why do you want to know something like that? Do you even know my name?”
Dynamight’s brows furrow and he frowns. It was the wrong thing to say evidently.
He repeats your full name back to you. “Who the fuck do ya take me for? You think I’m gonna ask somebody out without even knowin’ their name?”
“You’re asking me out.”
“Do you forget Japanese as soon as you're done with your work? I’m askin’ you out. Do you wanna accept?”
“Yeah! I mean, yeah, that sounds nice, Dyna–”
“Bakugo.” He cuts in.
“...That sounds nice, Bakugo.”

I posted about this on the twits, but I'm gonna do it here too because it's not like this is limited to that platform.
Since I've been seeing my least favorite shitty FF7 rumor around again, friendly reminder that there are no "legal issues" between Gackt and SE delaying anything. Sources claiming otherwise say "trust me bro" when Nomura has literally said it was just the workload.
People who claim that delays in production of anything in the Compilation are because of Gackt are parroting a rumor that's been around for over a decade, which was started by people who used it as an excuse to be racist and homophobic under the thin veneer of frustrated criticism. The majority of hatred toward the character of Genesis Rhapsodos in early fandom, and hatred toward Genesis in modern day fandom from OG Purists, stems from this same place.
Why do you think these people always assert that Genesis' very existence "ruins Sephiroth's character," but never complain about Angeal? Why do you think they have no problems with Aerith having a Jenova-infused Angeal Copy in her church for years—something that should totally change her understanding of the Crisis, but doesn't seem to in any way whatsoever—and yet anything and everything Genesis does is treated as an unforgivable retcon?
It's an excuse to say heinous, horrible things about an all-but-explicitly queer character who is modeled off a real Japanese man, and that's all it ever was, but it gets a pass because they dress it up as criticism of the franchise. Then, when they inevitably start throwing out slurs, nobody cares because "it's just Gackt—I mean Genesis, everyone knows he sucks."
Yeah, you "know" because you let a bunch of bigots tell you he should be judged more harshly than any other character in the entire series because he's not white or straight enough. Because he's based directly on a real flesh-and-blood Japanese man, and to these people that makes him deserving of hate, because people like that shouldn't exist. Because the character is all but explicitly queer (and it is even more explicit in the original language and when accounting for some key culturally-specific literary references portrayed throughout the narrative), and people like that shouldn't exist.
You "know" because you never questioned why this character specifically is the only one it's "objectively and morally correct" to hate and belittle, even though everything he's supposedly hated for applies to multiple other characters throughout the series.
The character is loathed, and the actor is blamed for everything, because some old guard fans said that's how it's supposed to be in this fandom, and if you don't engage with things that way then you don't deserve to be here.
Very cool and normal behavior!
There are very valid reasons to dislike this character, mind you, and plenty of reasons to be critical of the actor. I'm not saying otherwise. I'm saying the pervasive and frankly disgusting fandom-wide hatred stems from the same place as the continued, repeatedly disproven assertion that Gackt is to blame for everything "wrong" with the Compilation and its development: bigotry. I know this because I saw these assertions come into being in real time when Crisis Core first came out. I watched the people saying these things post the most homophobic rants on their personal accounts, I watched people I considered friends get banned from LJ communities for referring to Genesis as Gackt and referring to Gackt with racial slurs.
And I watched them come back later, promising they were better people now, armed with new claims and new arguments that allowed them to continue to be hateful trashfires without getting in trouble. As long as they weren't overt, it was okay. If they slipped up and used a slur in the comments that was mostly okay, since it wasn't in the main post. Mods might lock a thread here and there, but those people got to stay. Their "criticism" was "valid," and thus their bigotry was validated.
Those same claims and complaints are still regurgitated today, only now it's by people who aren't racist and aren't homophobic, but don't realize that their criticism is horribly unbalanced because it was all born from people who were just masking hatred.
Even worse is when these behaviors are mimicked by people claiming to like the character, because the fandom taught them that this was how you're supposed to engage with him, because it's just Gackt—Genesis (I said Genesis!) so he's a piece of shit no matter how you slice it and he deserves to be treated that way. Nobody else does, and nobody questions it, because this is just how it's done.
I'm sorry to be the one to tell people this, but if you slap a bunch of gay stereotypes onto Genesis and then have the characters around him treat him like shit because of them, while implying or outright insisting that IT'S OKAY BECAUSE IT'S GENESIS AND HE SUCKS SO IT'S FUNNY, you are following in the footsteps of bigots. If you constantly refer to the character as "Gackt" like the name itself is a pejorative, you are following in the footsteps of bigots.
No, there is no nuance here. I don't care if you allegedly came to all these conclusions on your own—you didn't and you know it—except for the fact that actually that's worse, because it means that you did some kind of deep dive in the source material and came out the other side agreeing with a bunch of racist homophobes who are still spitting bullshit after over 15 years.
Do fucking better.

Hi Yuurei!! 🤗 Sorry if this formatting gets all squished on tumblr! 😭
I admit this is a bit of a passion question here, but Ace’s clubwear DUO voicelines felt like they had different meanings (and are a little rude) in the English version. I wanted to get your opinion if you have time!
JP + my interpreted translation
Jamil: 「焦る決めるよ、エース」 (Don’t make any hasty decisions, Ace)
Ace: 「分けってます、ジャミル先輩」 (Got it, Jamil-senpai)
EN official
Jamil: Stay cool and land the shot, Ace.
Ace: I know, Jamil To my understanding, “wakettemasu” in THIS context is more in the vein of, "I understand/I am acknowledging your advice as my senior and listening to it.” It sounded a bit jarring in English to me, like “I know, you don't need to tell me" even when they're in the middle of a game.
JP + my interpreted translation
Ace: 「サポートあざっす、フロイド先輩!」 (Thanks for the support, Floyd-senpai!)
Floyd: 「ミスすんなよ、カニちゃん」 (Don't make a mistake, Crabby)
*I used to think he was saying “Don’t miss,” so I defer to the official translation. 😅
EN official
Ace: Back me up, Floyd!
Floyd: Don’t screw up, Crabby.
I personally don’t like Ace’s "Thank you" (azassu) being taken out because he is normally the type to thank others, in any situation, even for humor. The rewording makes it so Ace is demanding Floyd back him up, but the original dialogue sounds like Ace is thanking Floyd for backing him up during a game (maybe even without being asked). I think Ace would get squeezed if he ever thought he could boss Floyd around…hehe.
Anyway, I could be way off on my interpretations before they got translated to English. Semantics and 1:1 translations are elusive, but it'd be nice to have better understanding of club members' relationships as they were intended. 🥺
Hello hello! ^^ Thank you for this question!
Your translations are very good!!
Tumblr media
Jamil's original line is 「焦らずキメるぞ、エース!」 and I think both your interpretation of "don't be hasty" and EN's "stay cool" are correct! ^^
Literally translated it is close to, "without hurrying / without being impatient / without rushing," as in Jamil is telling Ace to stay calm and composed.
「キメる」 is an example of how context-dependent the Japanese language can be! Literally it is just "to decide" or "to set," but in the context of Jamil's clubwear we know that he is likely telling Ace to make a precise, confident choice and/or shot, as in waiting for the perfect moment to shoot for the goal and/or to strike.
Since this is a battle line he could be taking a shot for either a basketball hoop or taking a shot at an enemy! EN's "land the shot" goes both ways, much like the original JP ^^
Ace's response of 「わかってますよ、ジャミル先輩!」 is, I think, actually very close to the EN interpretation!
It might sound a little harsh in English, but it is also borderline impolite in Japanese! A polite response would be わかりました in the past tense, to indicate that Jamil has explained something that Ace didn't know, but now Ace understands and is acknowledging such.
By using わかってます in the present tense Ace is giving the vibe that he didn't need Jamil to tell him, because he already knew.
This is very characteristic of Ace's speech patterns with his senpai ^^ He walks a thin line of politeness/over-familiarity almost all the time, as a part of his character!
Tumblr media
I absolutely agree with your evaluation of Ace's line! ^^
While he is speaking in a slang-like way that you would normally not want to use with your senpai, he is still thanking him, and EN-Ace's translation sounds like he is giving an order to Floyd when he isn't!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I recently reviewed the JP main story from the prologue to 7-4 while collecting all examples of the characters saying "please," and it has been very interesting to match up to EN ^^
Characters like Ruggie, Azul, Jade, Sebek and Silver (in Book 7) are saying "please" just all of the time in the original game, which EN sometimes carries over, sometimes reinterprets into different forms of politeness like "sir," and sometimes drops, as in this case with Ace and Floyd! So interesting ^^

Hello dear Sarah, I hope you are well, I want to ask you a question since you are very expert on the subject, When kalafina existed (it hurts to say that😭) I was a teenager I couldn't buy their merchandise now that I can I want to know if I buy something from them, do they still make a profit or not?My friend says not anymore, if I want to support them, I better buy their materials as soloists. Please give me some advice.
Tumblr media
Hello there!
I am so, so sorry! This reply is long overdue. I had this in my drafts for way too long. These days, I've really been struggling with summer fatigue and can't get motivated to do anything except the bare minimum. As a result, lots of asks have remained unanswered in my inbox/drafts.
Without further ado, let's get to your question〈(•ˇ‿ˇ•)-→
Disclaimer: Take everything you read here with a grain of salt. Even though I would consider myself to be quite knowledgeable on the matter, I don't have all the facts.
I think your friend is correct. If you are buying Kalafina releases (CDs, DVDs/BDs/etc) or merchandise (live goods etc) right now, it is very unlikely that the girls will profit from it.
The way the Japanese entertainment industry works, idols/singers often don't have any rights to their music (especially in a case like this where they don't have an active part in the creative process). From what we know, the members of Kalafina were most likely managed in a very common and traditional "employment dynamic" with their talent agency "Space Craft" , meaning that after the label (Sony/SACRA MUSIC) got its sizeable share, the agency basically pocketed all remaining earnings from Kalafina's activities and then distributed a contractually agreed upon percentage to the members in the form of a monthly salary. As the creative force behind everything, I would assume that Yuki Kajiura probably had a more favourable arrangement with Space Craft along the lines of a client <=> management relationship and therefore received earnings directly with a certain percentage going to the agency but I'm only speculating here. Considering the amounts of money that went to the label, the agency and Yuki Kajiura, it is likely that the girls received a quite meager share compared to everyone else involved. Not saying they weren't paid decently, it was obviously more than enough to allow all three of them to live comfortably (or luxuriously in Keiko's case - keep in mind tho that her family is well-off) but certainly nothing too crazy.
After leaving Space Craft, I very much doubt that Keiko and Hikaru would have financial gains from any Kalafina-related sales. Wakana on the other hand might profit indirectly from such purchases because she's still signed up with Space Craft. Some official Kalafina merch is still available in the Space Craft online store so if you buy anything from there, the money would obviously go to the agency. All other merchandise items that are floating around online or in stores are almost certainly second-hand goods so no profit is made except by the seller/thrift shop. As for music releases from official shops or distribution partners, I'm actually not sure if Space Craft would still receive a cut from that. I guess it depends on their arrangement with the label. I definitely wouldn't rule it out. (YK is probably getting something).
Long story short, if you want to support the girls, the best option currently is to buy their solo stuff. However, that doesn't mean that you should give up on your dream to buy Kalafina releases and merch. Even if the group is disbanded, it is a good thing to signal that there is still demand for them. Also, if you ask me, nothing feels better than to own physical merch/releases. My Kalafina shrine is one of my biggest sources of happiness and pride.

Hello how are you ♡ Can I ask for headcanons with Akashi, Midorima and Imayoshi and how would they react with their partner who is Chinese and doesn't know how to speak any language and speaks very little of the boys' language? It would be fun to see their reaction when they see their partner speaking Chinese in front of them. Thank you so much if u see this and have a good day or night 😊
ohhh this is such a fun request, so thank you for it!! 💕 I used to learn mandarin chinese when I was in middle school so I kinda have a soft spot for Chinese culture now hihi <3 so here's your request, hope you like it and sorry for taking so long!!
Tumblr media
わからない - 我不知道 // KNB Headcanons
Tumblr media
Context: in which reader only speaks chinese and the boys have no clue what they're saying. (Also, title reads "wakaranai - wǒ bù zhīdào", meaning "I don't know" in japanese and mandarin chinese respectively)
Pairings: Akashi, Midorima and Imayoshi x gn!reader
Warnings: just fluff and a bit of crack, very safe for all publics!
Tumblr media
AKASHI
Let me just say first, to imagine that this man doesn't already know how to speak Chinese is kinda hard
Like as the heir of an important family, he has to speak multiple languages
So in his case, I'd say it's more that he's not fluent in Chinese more than him actually not speaking of word of it
In any case, he makes it his mission to resolve that communication issue
Language? That'll never be a barrier for him
See, Seijurō speaks gentleman
No need for you to know what he's saying or vice-versa because boy literally doesn't have to talk to treat you like a queen, yk?
But sometimes you kinda have specific demands and there he actually has to listen and translate
Because he's a genius, the little Chinese he already knows + his ability of picking on context cues help him understand you without much translation needed
And in the rare case he's wrong, he'll note down the words and phrases he didn't get so he can enrich is vocabulary
He thinks it's more important for him to adapt to your language than for you to adapt to his
Like he doesn't want to burden you with learning a new language just for him
But if you actually want to learn Japanese, Akashi is the man!
(Not quite actually)
He can be a tough teacher and something that's easy for him, might not be for the common person, which he has a hard time wrapping his head around
All in all, language is not really an issue for him
Best believe he's learned how to say "我爱你" (wǒ ài nǐ) first thing because he's a romantic like that <3
MIDORIMA
Shintarō never thought he'd like someone he couldn't understand, yet here he is
Maybe because you're so damn nice and pretty that he gets your vibe without even talking to you
But he didn't start dating you as soon as he took a liking to you; it's very important for him to be able to communicate with you first
So he started straightaway with learning as much as he could of Chinese language and culture
Listened to you very carefully to know which dialect you were speaking so he could learn this one specifically
He kinda got mad at some point during the process of learning, though, because some characters are the same and have the same meaning in both languages, but they're not pronounced the same
But he pulled through just so he can talk to you properly and get to know you better
When you tell him you're gonna learn Japanese, he's very supportive
He'll always correct you when you make mistakes though, which gets a bit annoying
But you know it's from good intent so that's alright
Will absolutely pester you about Chinese Zodiac so strap on, darling
Man will end up basing his luck on a mix of both zodiac signs and he'll definitely do the same for you 😭
IMAYOSHI
Oh, so you don't speak his language and he doesn't speak yours?
That's absolutely not an issue to my man here
He actually finds this quite amusing
He relishes in all the miscommunications that happen between you, that's just entertaining to him
But he'll eventually start to realise that it's a bit of an issue on the daily
Especially because he's such a sweet talker and a sacarstic dude that he kinda gets frustrated that he can't communicate that to you
So when it comes to learning Chinese, you can bet he crams a lot so that he can be fluent enough to be witty
Gives you a hard time learning Japanese, though
He's the kind of fucker that has fun using complicated sentences and figurative language just to make you confused
So the only way to strike him back is by talking to him in dialect and phrases
Loves this little game of "who's gonna make the other more confused"
Leave it to Imayoshi Shoichi to make language barrier entertaining 🙄

I bet there's a not insignificant portion of people who don't think Mahiru is doing that on accident

kjbdkjabKJSBDKJASDB ok. ok. so, mamahiru got his first ever talk show debut which is great. but it's also one of those japanese variety shows hosted by a comedy duo which really shows how much people are taking him seriously right now, which is not great.
but back to the thing that made me laugh. the hosts were trying really REALLY hard to make mamahiru the butt of the jokes. he brought up about how vampires are the best people for dealing with other vampires and the host was like "but wouldn't they just help their friend escape??" and mamahiru was like "you and [insert rival comedian name] are both comedians but you're not friends."
the Funny Guy laughs it off and says "well, i mean, i'm just saying vampires catching other vampires... it wouldn't be weird if they end up covering each other's asses."
and my beloved tumblr mutuals you will not believe what happened next.
mamahiru in his full glorious kindergarten teacher voice asks "we have cops in charge of catching criminals. are the criminals they're catching humans or vampires?"
funny guy once again fumbles "well, yes, they're humans but"
and mamahiru claps. CLAPS. tells funny guy he did a good job remembering!!! im going insane!!!

Oikawa Tōru: Abnormality (Part 4)
Fandom: Haikyuu!! — [ Masterlist ]
Summary: A slow-ish burn
• You had your own plans set in motion since graduation, planning only a select few had come to learn. With everything in place, it was time to see Oikawa in Argentina for the final time.
Warnings: Timeskip spoilers
| Part 1 | Part 2 | Part 3 | Part 4 |
>>>>——————————>
Tumblr media
"(Y/n)...?" The only person you knew in this area of Argentina was currently in Japan afterall...
"Um (L/n)! My apologies, in Japanaese it's (L/n) first..."
The Spanish speaker instantly corrected themselves, approaching you with mild apologetic hesitance since you were mid-call which prompted you to abruptly end it due to sudden realisation.
"No way, hi— I gotta go, enjoy Miyagi and talk soon." Once ending the call to a concerned Oikawa, the person had your full attention, a warm smile on your face due to the initial recognition.
"Brajkovic-san, you know who I am?" The language barrier was tricky to navigate, but you hadn’t been learning Spanish for nothing.
“Yes, thank Tōru Oikawa for that. So would you like to meet the team since you're here?" The player graciously laughed, nodding in confirmation before gesturing to the VBC training centre behind you both.
"It's best to get acquainted, you might be seeing a lot more of me soon. Thank you."
"Oh yeah? Your Spanish is pretty good, what's going on?" The player raised a sceptical brow, one that led you to manufacturing yet another scheme as you walked into the building.
"Well..."
———
It hadn't been long since you'd felt the sweltering heat of Argentina - the last trip highly productive despite Tōru being absent in Miyagi at the time.
Cheering echoed around you as the final point was scored by perfectly timed spike with a set courtesy of the man previously mentioned.
"Congratulations, Oikawa-chan~"
Praise was expected after games, whether win or lose because the entity of the team was talented in their own right. Not many voices could speed up his heartrate though, and only one could get his skin exceptionally hotter even after a high-cardio match.
"(Y/n)..."
It was disbelief initially, sweeping smile blinding you when he’d jogged toward you eagerly, gaze scanning your entire figure.
"My jersey - how did you...?"
"I had help, from your teammates." You nodded gratefully to Brajkovic and the others who each wore knowing smiles.
"You could've just asked me, I would've got one for you!"
"Then you wouldn't have been surprised! I wanted to do something worthwhile for you since you're always doing that for everyone else." Came your reply, his justification falling flat due to how flustered you’d gotten him with words alone.
"Why— why would you— (Y/n)! You can't say things like that!"
"Okay, think of it as me putting a price on you - about €30 to be exact." You comprisimised with a teasing tone, one he’d missed greatly if he’s honest with himself.
"Eh?!"
"Yeah, I brought Brajkovic-san lunch as a thanks."
"I'll address being worth more than €30 another time but for now: You went on a date with my teammate - before me?!" The petty attitude of Oikawa had kicked in now, hands placed on your shoulders, even it was delivered dramatically there was noteable heartache etched into his eyes.
"In my defence Tōru, you never asked."
"Fine! Go on a date with me!" Pouting, he crossed his arms over his chest as if challenging you.
"Fine!"
"Fine!"
Meanwhile the San Juan team overlooked the scenario, amused but also confused as they muttered to one another.
"...is that the Japanese custom?"
"I don't think so, it's just Tōrus' custom."
"It sucks. (Y/n) and I didn't even go on a date." Brajkovic added assuredly, his team nodding along in awe.
"But it worked."
There was a moment of laughter as he left with his team to get changed, only offering you a small wistful smile as he disappeared.
Soon he’d returned freshly changed as dismissed for the day, you hadn’t waited long but he apologised anyway before reaching the exit of the venue.
"We'll walk, I know places."
"I can drop you off if—"
"It's bright outside so we can walk, thanks though." Your offer was immediately cut short by his decisive assurance but the instance of it left you questioning.
"Why'd you wanna walk, so you could show me the sites?"
To as spend as much time with you as possible before you leave again.
"To increase the chances of you tripping over so I can film it for blackmail." Oikawa taunted proudly, phone waving in his hand as emphasis.
"Not if you trip over first Captain." As you'd spoken, you'd pushed him off the path and Oikawa gave a mocking noise before nudging you back.
———
Casual conversation fuelled your sunset walk, the two of you playfully flirting with one another whilst Oikawa pointed out various things on the route like a tour guide. However, when passing a familiar building you took over and pointed across the street.
"That school has an amazing education programme, I can't wait to start teaching it next month."
"Next month? That's an odd time frame." It had gone right over his head, your sheer nonchalance about the whole thing certainly aided that, and you’d decided your follow up would reveal everything.
"Well yeah, I need time to settle into my apartment and move my furniture in. Although I suppose that's far too organised for you to comprehend huh~"
You noticed the accompanying steps subside paces back, yourself stopping and turning back to a frozen Oikawa who stared at you incredulously.
"You're - you're staying here?” He’d pointed to the pavement with both index fingers (a failed reference to Argentina you’d admit). “You're living here?!"
"I told you before we graduated that I had dreams to follow dumbass, god don't you listen?"
He caught up to you, standing opposite with his usual (non)charming disposition that you’d grown so fond of.
"Most things leaving your lips were insults, of course I didn't listen - and what about Makki?! You two live together right?"
"We agreed to go our separate ways so Hiro moved to Tokyo for work and I came here." Accompaning your wistful smile, a touch of longing there due to parting from your best friend.
"Sorry, I need to process this, uh feelings too -and I feel a lot right now- explain it to me again?" He shook his head, running his fingers through his auburn hair apologetically.
"I got qualifications in Spanish, which means I can teach Art here and hold Japanese language classes for extra money if necessary. Honestly I'm surprised you didn't work out my plans, Great King." You playfully enlightened, admiring the cute scoff he gave you at the nickname, softly continuing with a bit of nonchalance. "And well, one of my dreams happened to be in Argentina so..."
"You came here for me?" There was a a spark of hopefulness, his eyes shooting up to meet yours with a brightness you hadn’t seen since you’d first kissed him all those years ago.
"Ah no, you're a nightmare but the sun here is gorgeous~"
"Whilst we're on the subject, I'd like to reiterate that this nightmare is worth more than 30 Euros!"
Rolling your eyes at the remark, you proceeded walking and continued the conversation topic.
"When you were in Miyagi last time, I thought you would've asked me to come with you. It'd be funny, as my answer would've been yes."
"I thought about it, god I desperately wanted to, it killed me. But I didn't want to put either of us through that again." Oikawa admitted sheepishly, flicking his gaze to the sky wearing a sentimental expression.
"Look at you, getting all mature. Well, occasionally."
"Excuse you!"
"Yes excuse me, I need directions so I can account for how long it’ll take me to get back."
"I'll walk you to..." Your hotel? Your apartment? The whole thing was still incomprehensible to him, dreams don't normally come true so effortlessly. Though he supposes you'd had your turbulences along the way.
"My new home? Of course, I'll show you around, it's quite cute actually." You grinned brightly, pulling the route up on your mobile whilst Tōru only raised an expectant brow.
"I'll have to show you mine, it's what cute actually looks like."
"Yeah, you're looking at it~" Came your smug grin, confident but playful finger guns sent to the Setter who only rolled his eyes. Yet when you'd looked away laughing, he couldn't help the loving smile gracing his lips nor the look of pure adoration crossing his eyes.
It was more than simply 'cute' he was looking at...
It was enough to subdue a snarky remark form his lips, the lack thereof surprising you greatly, but you'd let it be. This time whilst you navigated the direction, Oikawa idly typed away in his device too - more accurately hitting up the group chat.
[ Tōru: GUESS WHAT!!!! 💕🫶✨🎉🔥 ]
[ Hajime: What? ]
[ Takahiro: always so dramatic 💕🫶✨🎉🔥 ]
[ Mattsun: ^^^ ]
[ Tōru: I'll complain about you being rude later because I'm too happy - (Y/n) is staying in Argentinaaaa!!! With me!!!!! ]
[ Takahiro: yeah and what 💀 ]
[ Tōru: Obviously you knew, this ain't for you 😤🙄 ]
[ Mattsun: We all knew tho... lol you didn't??? ]
[ Tōru: Um? Excuse me? ]
[ Hajime: (Y/n) told us a month ago, they had a leaving party and everything. ]
[ Tōru: Oh? And my BEST FRIEND; my PARTNER; my favourite ACE didn't tell me? Iwa-channnnnn 😭🥺🥺 ]
[ Hajime: I heard that in your annoying whiny tone and it still grates me. Thought you knew, but get over it and go see the love of your life dumbass. ]
[ Tōru: EWWWWW!!! Disgusting 🤢🤮 Hate the very air they breathe, couldn't even look at (Y/n) for 5 seconds thx 💀 ]
[ Mattsun: (Y/n) feels the same about u 🤡 ]
[ Takahiro: true. as the best roomate and human (Y/n) knows - i vouch for what Mattsun says ]
"Everything okay?" Your teasing and knowing tone cut through his thoughts, the brunette looking to you quizzically.
"Oh yeah, just a bit distracted."
"Me too, but Mattsun is right by the way." You knew, how could you have possibly my known?
"What?!"
"I feel the same about you." Was your innocent response, two digits moving to your lips accompanied by a false gag noise, and a smug smirk on your face. Oikawa silently cursing Makki as his name lit up your notifications, the Captain whining his complaints until you’d reached your home.
———
Once arriving at your newly dubbed residence, you excitedly let him inside and skipped over a few lingering boxes filled with unpacked belongings. The necessities and personal touches were evident though, but Oikawa didn't even think before he thoughtlessly spoke.
"Y'know you could've just moved in with me..."
"What?"
"I mean we know each other and stuff, just nevermind. Your place is pretty okay looking, not as good as mine but I'll let it slide." He’d said it like it didn’t mean anything, like it was a normal thing for two friends to do. Except, you hadn’t been ‘just friends’ for a very long time.
"I'll let you slide down the toilet in a minute Shittykawa."
"So rude! That's not how you treat a celebrity houseguest (Y/n)-chan~"
You froze at the familiarity, staring at him hopelessly, like a deer in headlights. It's been a while since he'd called you that... adding that damned '-chan' to the end of your name like a stupid insult. Endearment.
"No comeback? That's not— what's wrong?"
"You added '-chan' to my name." A breath. "It's... nice to hear."
"I never thought I..." Regaining composure, Oikawa was quick to recover. "Aw do you miss it? I knew you secretly loveds it my darling little (Y/n)-chan~"
"Hell no, you ruined it. I take it back, it was a moment of weakness. Missing you must've gotten to me." Dismissively waving your hand, but he’d caught it effortless when closing in on you.
"For what it's worth, I missed you too. I'm glad, that I get to spend my life with you again."
"Yeah, me too Tōru."
It was a heavy and understanding atmosphere, an intimate but comforting air that lingered around the two of you and making it difficult to breathe in the silence of years of built up things left unsaid. Even if only centimetres apart, touching him felt like shattering the fragile wall of glass you'd always kept between you.
"So uh... what do I taste like?"
It was Tōru who'd spoken, your fingertips immediately withdrawing when he'd looked up from the floor.
"What?"
"Before I left the first time, you— you said you wanted to know, I just never found the right moment to ask." The was a hint of awkwardness lacing his tone, as shaky as it was. He was nervous now, a side you'd rarely ever seen as if he was mistaken. He wasn't, but that only fuelled your flustering.
"O-oh, I did didn't I? Can I… check again?"
There was a brief indication, him immediately understanding what you’d wanted and gave a small curt nod instantly, tilting to give you easier access. Then your lips brushed his, warm and careful like you were testing the waters, before an encapsulating warm captured you. The kiss was as heart racing as the last, but more tentative, and full of possibility. Even when you pulled away.
"It was different than the first Tōru, now you taste like watered down strawberries..."
"And?" Oikawa lowly poised, indicative in every sense of the word.
You kissed him again.
"Velvety vanilla cream..."
And again.
"Mm." His pretty whines were sweet, you'd noted.
Again.
"Your lips are, well fine I guess, I'd say €25. So, what do I taste like Tōru?" A wicked smirk danced on your lips, now deeper in colour, but ever the charmer Oikawa was immediate on his response.
"My lovely, beautiful, (Y/n)-chan - poison, specifically made with venom because of your mean tongue. Plus I'm priceless~"
"Hey! Is that some kinda witch reference? I thought we moved past that!" You argued back, the two of falling into playful taunting once more, like you’d never been apart.
"Never~ You taste like me then, since you couldn't get enough!"
"Oikawa!"
Maybe you'd both grown individually, but some things never changed - like the unique relationship you shared...
Although as the Setter skilfully dodged your strategic attempts at getting him back as you both raced around your home, he couldn't help but realise your signature taste hadn't changed either.
You weren't poison or anything of the sort, you never had been (only, Tōru could never pass up an opportunity to irritate you).
You didn't taste like him either (as much as he'd like you to), your lips had a unique flavour all of their own, an all encompassing heat that haunted him from the moment he'd kissed them years ago.
How could he say that though?
Just how was he supposed to illiterate, that you had always tasted like 'home'?
