okay so this is gonna be long sorry.

i also thought the amount of seasons was intimidating but i actually find that it was really easy to get through? i think i binged it all in like a week 🧍🏻‍♀️(but uh, i did stay up a lot and usually multitasked) the seasons are very short(usually 10 eps) , and later on the episodes get short too.

there’s also new characters introduced every season, but it’s very centralized around the same cast of characters all through, which is like Lloyd, Nya, Kai, Jay, Cole, Zane, Wu, and later on Pixal. so it doesnt feel like a lot to me.

I also think i enjoy the show a little differently than other media? Like it’s just good fun for me to watch. there’s several factors.

1) It holds a lot of nostalgia for me, because i was superrr into this show as a kid, 2) the way i enjoy the show is much like playing with legos as a kid. you have all these legos and crazy ideas, and you spin it all in different ways into what is sometimes a nonsensical plot, but its fun, 3) it is aimed for kids, so it’s easy to find it lacking in areas, but my absolute favorite thing is watching the team dynamic between the main characters bc it feels like they actually like each other😂 it’s the main thing i watch it for tbh

It’s not for everyone obviously, but idk watching the storytelling and animation improve/change throughout the seasons is neat bc in s8 holllyyyy shit it gets a whole new aesthetic, and it’s also really fun to kind of take elements that the show presents and do some Thinking and Creating in my head

my favorites are Zane and Kai—Zane because i grew up connecting to his character a lot and he’ll always be special to me, and Kai bc he just sort of falls into my stereotypical type of favorite character 💀 . His characterization isn’t always the best and the writers sometimes miss opportunities with him but i just really like Thinking about him and the potential types of character development he could have 🤷🏻‍♀️

So yeah theres the pilots which are really hard to find, but there’s a twitch link to them (pitched down)

S1-2 are fun and nostalgic to me even if they’re a bit uh, obviously at aimed kids. they were also meant to be the only seasons, but the audience liked it so it kept going. I feel like something shifted in the air around s6-ish though, and then again for s8 idk.

if youre really plot oriented or super into intense intricate world building, or not into shows that can be simple and aimed at kids, you might not enjoy it..? but if you just like seeing wacky plots w fun characters then you might like it ^_^

going insane! !! ! ! ! I literally HATE HATE HATTTEEE when people give credit to shows for adding Queer characters and queer storylines when they do not EXIST AT ALL. People dont know how to recognize when they are not receiving the representation they SHOULD be receiving because they are SOOO detached from what is deserved. A character being confirmed as lgbt in later interviews is not representation. A character being lgbt through Sci-Fi allegory is not always good or proper representation. NO a character's entire "personality" does not have to revolve around being LGBT for them to be considered good rep, but when you make their sexuality or gender identity something easily missed, or hidden away, or LITERALLY ACKNOWLEDGE IN INTERVIEWS THAT YOUD RATHER NOT BE EXPLICIT WITH IT... that's not good. What would hurt your story if your character said out loud they like women or were bi? How would that damage anything? And I KNOW you don't need to be EXPLICIT when it comes to these things, but when you SAY it DAMAGES a character, you obviously do not have LGBT people in your best interest when creating this type of representation. Once again you are catering to straight people who would prefer you to just not say anything. Sure she can give glances, or maybe suggest something, but outright saying it... NO thats not good! and its Damaging!! Literally shut up and die idec anymore.

My opinion on the writers and their commentary regarding the finale.

I do understand why they did the things they did.

Limited resources and wanting to utilize what they had.

I totally agree with their use of Piano Lucky Charm.

I think the fight the physical fight with Monarch and Bug Noire is phenomenal.

I can tell a Lot of effort went into planning this season out.

And as a Writer I can respect the references, nods, foreshadowing and jokes that were put in.

Fang using Kung fu is a hilarious image and it’s my favorite shot outside of monarch having a piano dropped on him.

People can say they like the ending, and if they do, awesome. I’m glad that you can enjoy this ending that I don’t.

So let’s have that put at the forefront

That is everything positive I have to say regarding the commentary and I will be going into detail on my ‘Problems’ below. And yes I will be getting angry.

I absolutely LOATHE their explanation on how they justify their ending.

Everything about it makes them sound pretentious and arrogant. They sound like they think they are being so clever with an ending when the ending is actually a fucking punch to the face of ANYONE that cared about having a resolution to this arc.

If the writers were so keen on having us CARE for Gabriel’s little arc. Why not take that Kwami’s choice special and replace it with a two episode arc of Gabriel, Emilie and co getting the miraculous? They can’t say budget because they could use flashbacks or the re-enactment from Representation.

And my goodness, the mental gymnastics it takes to say “Gabriel put down his other rings which means he lost” NO IT DOESNT. He is making his wish, he won. Why the heck would he need them after?!

“His wish is vague, so we don’t know what he wished for.” I DONT CARE IF HE WISHED FOR FREE ICE CREAM FOR EVERYONE ON EARTH! HE WON BY EVERY METRIC! It’s unsatisfying, it’s gross, and it feels all kinds of wrong to the point that my soul as a writer feels personally insulted.

The arrogant pretentious Pricks don’t even realize they left Ladybug in the losing position once again! She’s going to have to suffer the consequences of the wish. Not the person who died VINDICATED.

But she got the miraculous back? Yea, AFTER the villain got what he wanted. Adrien never finds out about any of this, Marinette is left gaslighting and hiding things from him, just like usual but now MORE people are keeping things from him.

All of this writing just end up with a cool final battle scene and then take a metaphorical dump all over it because their peak in character development is outfit changes.

The ending isn’t unsatisfying because it’s meant to be. It’s unsatisfying because it made 5 seasons of watching ML pointless.

And I didn’t think I could hate the finale more than I do. BUT THE COMMENTARY somehow made it Worse!? I don’t know how the f*** they did it.

But knowing their intent and knowing this ending was always intended makes VOLTRON’s ending SEEM serviceable. And yes I know how bad that sounds and I FUCKING MEAN IT.

i know the galra had ten thousand years and unlimited resources to build up their defences and offences, to create an insane amount of weapons, to do evil experiments, and rule far across the universe, but HOW does it go from voltron being the defender of the universe, the most powerful weapon in the universe, something that zarkon has been hunting after for ten thousand years, something that made sendak (a very strong galra commander who would not let anyone stand in his way, according to himself) gasp and RUN.

yes he didnt fully run away but he retreated; he watched his battle cruiser get blown to fucking pieces, and remember this is the first time the paladins formed voltron. there was no sword. it was like their second or third time flying in their lions, and the only one that has had consistent flight simulations and training for however long is lance, and even then i think we saw him struggle to strategise a battle plan when going after the yellow lion with hunk because we heard him say he would cover hunk, we saw him carry that out but then get overwhelmed by the galra fighters in the air and take off after them.

hes a damn good pilot, and they all are, especially in the lions, but this is on a next level to what they could've been training for at the garrison.

so, this takes me to my point, why in the fucking world was voltron so fucking nerfed in the later seasons. like yes i dont want an easy win for voltron every battle, yknow, its about them working together as a team, its about voltron not always being the solution (aka when its better for them to split off into lions while they strategise), its about them actually coming up with strategies instead of just going in voltron first and hoping for the best.

its been a while since i watched the later seasons but rn im mostly thinking of atlas. like it just doesnt really make sense to me tbh? to build the atlas, yes, its essentially a replacement for the castleship, a place for a team to watch voltron from the sky, provide back up, but then to have it form into a voltron-esque robot ??? i just dont think thats where they should have taken it.

im glad for the castle of lions to take an important role in some episodes, where again the answer lies outside of JUST voltron, but it doesnt really make sense to build another giant robot.

it kind of takes away the development the paladins are supposed to go through as well, to work together better and stronger as a team thus opening up more weapons from voltron and learning how to fight in different ways.

idk i think the entire thing was kinda over-thought at the end as they were trying to keep the show going, but missing some of the other storylines they could've gone down, (black paladin lance, lotor redemption arc (which he did seemingly have but all along they planned to throw that in the bin), the team coming together as friends more often developing their bond as voltron but also as people, the team seeing their families again, not killing off shiro's FUCKING CANON BOYFRIEND IN A STUPID FUCKING SHITTY WAY ADAM DIDNT DESERVE TO DIE YALL ARE JUST COWARDS, and also the team kinda reflecting back to how they were jn the beginning and realizing they have grown (i say the team but i mostly mean lance and hunk because the writers just did not give two shits about them they really didnt get the chance to become fully thought out characters, they just had some insecurities and interests that were ignored until convenient then ignored again)).

Voltron and it's characters have been a sore topic for me ever since it ended. Sometimes I find myself missing them, which is stupid because I can go and watch it whenever I want (which i havent been able to do since it ended). Even if I did manage to re-watch it, it wouldn't be the same. The warmth and comfort the show once brought me is gone and replaced with a feeling that I guess the best word for it would be grief, because I know how it ends. Unfairly. But your art brings that familiar comfort back. I know this probably sounds incredibly dramatic, because it was a cartoon aimed at children, but Voltron, specifically Lance and Keith, were so special to me. Those characters were there for me when everything was just so, to put it lightly, so so much. And like, im not a teenager anymore, i dont need to go to a show about teenagers fighting purple aliens in giant colourful mecha lions when i need comfort anymore, but theres still that tiny fourteen year old part of me that deperately misses the comfort they brought, like they're old friends that i dont talk to anymore. And i guess this i why im sending you this message. Your art is not only beautiful, but is also so kind to them. A lot of people only think about voltron and remember the bad, which I myself am very guilty of, but whenever you post about it you only show the love you had for it and its characters. And i just wanted to thank you for that. For reminding me that even though the show ended in a way that hurt me, those characters still helped me in a way that i will always be grateful for. And you deserve to know the impact your art has on people, so thank you

i think the entire voltron fandom can agree allura is not a likable character. all of my followers know my ENTIRE NOVEL WORTH of reasons for not liking her.

but during my rewatch of se 1 this one scene really irked me. shes standing on the ledge during the arusian party and overlooking the paladins. she watches as hunk and keith goof around and make the guests laugh and it ANNOYS HER. she is visibly and audibly unapproving, not even including her "i dont think theyre worthy" to the mice.

out of all the reasons she thinks the paladins "arent fit" for the job, INCLUDING THEM BEING 14-20 YEARS OLD, she doesnt like them ********because they were laughing with eachother at a p a r t y that a l l u r a put together and made them attend*********

alluras character niche has so much potential. her family. her planet, her culture destroyed and she has to pull together a ragtag team in the span of a few hours after reawakening.

but the writers ruined all yhat potential. and it isnt even a "after season three" destruction, she was written horrible from the very start.

It just really irks me that she doesnt think the team is unfit bc of their lack of training, the fact two of 5 of them arent even pilots and have zero flight training, the fact one of them is barely even a teenager, the fact one of them has severe ptsd from fighting and was only rescued hours before being thrown into another war, or any of the billion reasons.

i really dont get it. i've been in fandoms where the fanon content all comes from a deep misunderstanding of what the original text is supposed to be. but like, it was marvel. or voltron. or that transphobic wizard school series. something where fans were actually coming up with a better version of the source material

i came into this fandom not because i wanted content that fixed what i disliked abt the source material, but because i wanted more of the source material, and there was only so many times i could rewatch the ten episodes that we have. this show is fucking phenomenal and has brought me so much joy, and talking abt this show and chewing on good analyses of the show has been so much fucking fun.

it's just disheartening, i guess, that so many people fell down this gradual pipeline of liking the weird little gremlin antagonist to having their entire fandom experience revolve around a version of izzy that reflects fanon more than canon. it makes me fucking sad that there are people who genuinely believe he's the show's secret protagonist and that season one is full of undeniable references to his inevitable redemption arc but also he doesn't need to change anything to be redeemed because he's the skyler white of ofmd (???) and he's a victim of an abusive relationship but also he doesn't know he's in love with his captain who is so mean and unfair to him and doesn't even notice how izzy dedicates his whole life to him and–
