What made you ship it? i liked them in tt03, which you know, is truly a feat considering how terribly that comic treats both of them. but their dynamic (angry homoeroticism) managed to be compelling still

What are your favorite things about the ship? i enjoy girl antagonism from time to time. i know were all sick of the trope that teen girls all hate each others guts but considering cassie has a pretty good relationship with all the other girls on her team(s) its fun to see her just go ugh i hate this one. this one can go. theyre just fun and bitchy and i think they should hatefuck about it. but beside that theres also so much potential there ! i think you know, if anyone writing that comic actually cared about cassie or rose or about their character development, it would have been interesting to see their relationship change over time instead of getting one issue where cassie implicitly calls rose family while protecting her, and then the next one she immediately she calls her a manipulative psychopath for no good reason bc they cant figure out how to make the team interesting without having some wildly antagonistic relationship that doesnt make sense if u think about it for a few seconds. theyre never going to be besties but it would have been nice to see them go from blind hate to an uneasy truce; they dont like each other but they do, unfortunately, care about each other, and lets see where we go from that. + itd be interesting to dig into cassies hypocrisy when it comes to hating rose

on Shiv's pregnancy, i think it could go in any direction but from what I can tell she doesn't seem super hyped about it and I don't see a reason for her to feel a need or requirement to have a baby, especially if it's Tom's so. no want + no need. at the same time i can see the thematic significance that would come with her carrying/trying to carry her pregnancy to term while miserable and grieving, maybe trying to find some bit of joy in being a mom/having a baby.

Roman saying he's not currently in a state of grieving while we can all sense that there's a dam in him ready to burst (maybe next episode?). on that note, i'm surprised but also not at all surprised that no one tried to get him to talk abt it past that. like it makes sense bc everyone has bigger fish to fry but that was just left there the whole episode. i thought Mencken would make an appearance this episode and get him to talk some, but after the secret service came He Did Not so. I do think that either/both Matsson and Mencken have room to poke Roman emotionally a bit in the coming episodes if the siblngs or even Tom doesn't first, make him break a little. anyone. anyone please get this man to break.

i do wonder what's going on with Kerry... she was saying something abt logan having wanted to make a wedding announcement (which sounds like bullshit, though her crying was kinda convincing me there may be truth to it) and she seems to be in a really low place. i wonder if she's in some deep shit money-wise (personal debts or wtv) and that's why she's so upset now or if she just genuinely felt a connection with logan and is actually devastated at his death. idk but i feel that there's something deeper there.

I've seen some say that Succession has gotten more heavy-handed in its storytelling over time and with my rewatch i honestly just think that the show and character felt like they changed a lot directly after s1 ep5, like i don't think this is really a recent shift. if anything the characters are just unravelling and being more truthful abt their interests and motivations. however there have been some instances of awkward and ooc behaviour.

Kendall referencing the haunted house felt like it was just there for the audience, it felt out of place to me. same with tom grabbing that hors d'oeuvre and gerri like. immediately making a jab at him for it, it just felt like a weird set up for a joke that didn't need to happen.

idk death makes ppl act weird ig but it just felt so nothing. maybe i'll turn around on that and it'll actually be super relevant and thematically interesting how everything feels out on the table at the wake and there are strange absences like Mencken and Munion not showing despite being mentioned as on the way. and i dont mean that as in i think they were supposed to show up/be there but we never see them, i mean that as in it feels strange to have one-off mentions of people coming to the wake but the wake feels like it itself ends early with the episode. i guess we'll probably see them at the funeral and some loose ends will be tied up but. idk it also just felt like a strangely short episode. maybe that's just the show embodying the wake vibes.

i dont have the time to go through it rn but basically all of hold me accountable is comedy gold imo halquius is such an underrated ship their dynamic can be so goddamn funny when you let it be and it was a lot of fun to really lean into how weird hal and equius are and how they work despite and because of it. its got a lot of great lines i always feel inordinately proud of myself reading through it again

oh yeah, loads. i think i got the furthest with the davkat godstuck fic, though. it was supposed to be set in the aspec aspects verse and focus more on the creation of the gods and the way dave and karkat evolved over the years and grew closer, but eventually it got to a point where it felt too ooc and flowery, and i lost steam. it had some good parts in it and things that i liked, but ultimately i decided itd never be something i posted.

because ive talked abt hs a lot, the most recent fic i scrapped was a jason dent one sort of playing with the idea of jason being undead from the lazarus pit and surviving things that shouldve been fatal, and harvey and talia trying to navigate helping him heal. it felt too all over the place and im not actually a huge fan of hurt/comfort so i wound up scrapping it. it didnt contribute anything to the actual jd storyline i was writing and wouldnt have been canon to it, and it just felt too far removed. sometimes i think im already pushing the envelope too far with self indulgent fics and weird hcs and i just have to shut down projects that go further bc i dont think anyone would read them lmao

yeah i totally agree with what you said about satire and schlatt basically taking the easy way out. it seems like since that video he's kinda eased back from doing that shit, either bc the backlash or bc his friends have started verbally calling him out on it, both to his face and through making comments about him on stream (comments as in like saying they dont agree with what he did and saying they thought that video was terrible, not like them shading him or whatever ajsksk) which is good but also i wouldnt be surprised if something like that video happened again just bc like. it is his career and at this point he has to know what his larger fanbase is like to an extent, which means he also knows those terrible fucking jokes will make him money. i dont like that, but im also not gonna sit around and pretend like i cant see the fucking obvious, ya know? from what ive seen of him when he's not putting on a show for his main channel, or when he isnt around people who both encourage and enable his bad behavior (not saying this to shift blame, ive just noticed how he goes from making actually funny jokes that are harmless or, at most, a pretty obvious example of him poking fun at shitty people, at least imo, to like. straight up just being offensive when he's with people like swagger, miz, etc. vs ted, charlie and so on), he seems like a pretty good guy and its pretty clear to me that he doesnt hold the same views as the character he plays up for his main channel but that doesnt change the fact that his audience is now full of the worst kinds of people and that is how he makes money.

as someone who, again, watched idubbbz, as well as filthyfrank, they both stated they were playing characters and they didnt agree with the shit they were joking about, joji especially, but them saying that isnt very well known by even their own fanbase who just watches their main channel stuff, bc the one video where joji made that explicitly clear what he was doing, he later deleted for people harassing him in the comments (it was an old ass video where he basically said that playing those characters was giving him literal health problems, specifically stress induced seizures, and his comments were so bad that he never made an ooc video on his main channel again) and the one video i can think of where ian explicitly said he was playing a character was like an hour long podcast with h3, which most people dont even wanna watch bc it is a painfully uncomfortable one hour, considering the fact that they are supposed to be friends. besides that, the only other time they were really out of character was in vlogs with maxmoefoe, and they still did their offensive bits from time to time bc it was still going up on youtube, even if it wasnt their main channel. compare that to schlatt who has, as far as i know, never explicitly said he's playing a character, and the closest he has gotten to saying that was in some weekly slap video that i cant remember the title of bc all those videos kinda blend together if im being honest. like they definitely show a different, better side of him, but they are also all really short videos with only gameplay to watch and he never even promotes the channel, so its not like the shitty people watching him are like "hm time to take some time out of my day to go watch big man schlatt give people advice and be a genuine person for once", right?

idk. schlatt is just such a weird person for me bc like. he is a big comfort for me, i really do enjoy his content when he's not making bad stabs at satire (bc sometimes he does it right!! but a lot of the time, at least recently, he has just missed the mark entirely, to the point where it feels like he wasnt even trying to hit the mark at all), but he is also so uncomfortable to watch sometimes just bc he seems to either not know where the line is, or thinks crossing it is okay bc its him playing a character and that's not fun to watch as a minority who often ends up being apart of that "punchline".

that aside tho...yes, unfortunately idubbbz does still make content (and i say unfortunately bc it is not very good) though it seems like he is very slow to upload and last i checked, the views arent too great, but ive seen worse. probably the only thing that could bring back his views at this point would be a content cop, but like a year or so back he said he has no plans of continuing the series bc he finds it boring now, which is fair enough. i dont really keep up with him anymore, but as far as i know, he just got married to anisa and he streams on twitch sometimes, besides that the dude is a mystery to me!

i would like to know how is it in poor taste when freemind explicitly gets clocked at the very end for saying it. the entire point of the comic was to show that saying the r slur has existed in his source and is bad

im not sure how much more direct i can get, with the disclaimer/warning list growing longer and longer and out there for a huge sign that says “this au can get dark as fuck and these subject matters are treated seriously/not something to mess around with.” Like yes, there are some jokes in the asks and other comics, but that specific comic is not supposed to be “haha thats funny”. it has a serious tone using a rough sketch style bc i was super tired and wanted to vent

was it just the direct reference to it that just made people uncomfortable? because thats 100% understandable, and i made sure i tagged it appropriately (although admittedly, a little bit late since i thought the filter would catch at least the main thing)

i think what some people somehow got from it is “exploring sensitive content = endorsing said content” which! that is not the intent! i absolutely do not want people saying that word! I don’t want people thinking that is any way okay for this character to say

and people just. dont want to read for context for whatever reason. theyll start watching it and get taken aback by the slur and start blaming me ‘hey you never warned for this’ when very early on i keep mentioning over and over ‘you dont have to watch it if you dont want to! This has slurs and 2000s internet brand humor/style’ You really dont, I’m not forcing you to watch it- Literally all you need to know is either canon half life or hl/vrai. thats it. fm mostly follows hl1 with very slight changes.

so i had to make something that:

1. warns people who arent aware and dont want to go through my asks or about/warning pages (for whatever reason) and just want to see the art

2. also NOT downplay freemind’s canon assholery. listen, i kinda despise writing mean and cruel characters, theyre hard to do, and a lot of people get shit for doing it wrong or people going “character = author”

i’ve also considered leaving the bubbles blank, but then people could fill it with whatever they want, then blame me for being vague. or they’d fill it in with a different kind of slur that freemind has never used, even if he MIGHT be the type to do that. I needed to explicitly mention that it is ableist slur. There are shitty racist and other problematic jokes, but never those kinds of extreme racial slurs to my knowledge.

Although I do see your point that maybe joking about it outside of the serious stuff might not be the best route. The slurboy jokes are getting stale, and I will try a better way to remind people.

The thing that gets to me is that it feels people are more than ready to defend either Ross Scott or Gordon Freeman the fictonal character himself. I don’t??? really care for Ross Scott, so I don’t know if he’s ever brought it up specifically. I’m not really calling him out or cancelling him. Idc for some white man’s feelings, im only bringing the timeframe of That era and reworking it to fit in This current era.

And I hate to break it to people: Gordon Freeman is a blank slate character, you can project whatever the hell you want on him as long as it’s not freakshit illegal garbage. The machinimas (fm, hl/vrai) do have SOME characterization that I want to nail down. It fucking sucks when characters are ooc, and I’m trying not to do that, even if it means sacrificing some comfort. But still mostly staying in my comfort zone if that makes sense
