Ao3 Tips and Tricks
So I thought I would make a post about some cool stuff you can do with Ao3 and userscripts, and some tips I’ve learned from setting them up for myself! I promise it's not hard, though this is a lot of info. I'm happy to help if I can.
What You’ll Need:
First, you will need the Tampermonkey extension for your browser (depending on what browser you use, Greasemonkey is the equivalent). On Android, you can even run Chrome extensions on mobile with Kiwi Browser! It is easiest to configure the scripts on your desktop and then sync to mobile with Tampermonkey’s cloud sync feature or by exporting the configured scripts and importing in your mobile browser (I will explain how to do this later in the post). If you use any of the tweaks I outline below, be sure to backup your scripts in case your settings are lost.
Once you have Tampermonkey installed, you can get scripts from GreasyFork. The inimitable @flamebyrd also has some great scripts and bookmarklets and has been incredibly helpful while I figured all this out.
Find a script that looks interesting, click on it, and then click “install this script.” Pretty straightforward. Once you have it installed, you can go to Tampermonkey to configure it (only necessary for some scripts) by clicking on the Tampermonkey extension icon in your browser (under the three dot menu in Kiwi) and clicking “dashboard”, then clicking the edit icon next to the script you want to configure. When you’re done, click File->Save.
Scripts and instructions under the cut
Some of my favorites:
Flamebyrd’s Incomplete Works script - fades out WIPs on works listings, and displays the work stats (wordcount, chapters, etc) in red on single works to make it more obvious that they’re WIPs as you’re browsing:
Tumblr media
Flamebyrd’s Ao3 to Pinboard bookmarklet/script - if you click the bookmarklet while on a work’s page, it opens the Pinboard save screen and prefills the title, tags, description, word count, etc, and adds ?view_full_work=true&view_adult=true to the URL so Pinboard’s archiver will archive the complete work and not the adult content warning screen (note that Pinboard still cannot correctly archive works locked to Ao3 users, so you may want to download them as a backup. I’ve asked him about fixing that.), based on your selections when configuring the bookmarklet on the linked page. If you use the userscript, it adds a button to the works listings page so you don’t even have to open the work to save it:
Tumblr media
I tweaked this script so that it only grabs the first pairing tag, since I don’t typically care about secondary pairings and they were clogging up my Pinboard tags. It’s a simple fix (though I know nothing about coding so I had to do some googling and inspect-sourcing; kinda proud of myself tbh):
Just change this part of the script
if ( options.relationship_include ) {
- $(".relationships a.tag", $work).each(function () {
To this
if ( options.relationship_include ) {
- $(".relationships a.tag:first", $work).each(function () {
I also found this cool mobile-optimized Pinboard bookmarklet called Pincushion and combined it with Flamebyrd’s script. Everything works except the auto-tagging, but I’ve reached out on GitHub to see if he can help (according to Flamebyrd, there’s no tag field ID attribute to map to). However, this bookmarklet has tagging autocomplete features that make it easy to tag manually. For example, if you type “steve 21st” it will suggest “steverogersvsthe21stcentury” rather than having to type out “steverogersvs…” in order for it to autocomplete like it does on the regular Pinboard bookmarklet. I actually have two buttons set up (which you can see in the next screenshot) - Flamebyrd's to quickly grab the tags and close without me having to do anything, and then the Pincushion one to quickly edit the tags. If anyone's interested, I can explain how to do that.
To combine Pincushion with Flamebyrd’s script (so it works from the Ao3 works listings page as mentioned above), simply change this part of Flamebyrd’s script:
t = t.split(" ").join( options.space_replacement );
var pb_url = "https://pinboard.in/add?url=" + encodeURIComponent(q) + "&description=" + encodeURIComponent(d) + "&title=" + encodeURIComponent(p) + "&tags=" + encodeURIComponent(t);
void(open(pb_url, "Pinboard", "toolbar=no,width=700,height=350"));
To this
t = t.split(" ").join( options.space_replacement );
var pb_url = "https://rossshannon.github.io/pincushion/?user=YOURUSERNAME&token=YOURAPITOKEN&url=" + encodeURIComponent(q) + "&description=" + encodeURIComponent(d) + "&title=" + encodeURIComponent(p) + "&tags=" + encodeURIComponent(t);
void(open(pb_url, "Pinboard", "toolbar=yes,width=600,height=700,left=50,top=50"));
You’ll need to get your API Token from your Pinboard account and plug it in where it says YOURUSERNAME and YOURAPITOKEN (number part only) above.
FanFictionNavigator - mark fics as Like/Dislike/Mark/InLibrary, highlight with colors based on which option you select, hide/show based on category, like/dislike author and highlight with color. Only you will see how you've marked things.
You can tweak the colors for the highlighting by configuring the script (I find the default colors make the text hard to read because I use the Reversi skin on Ao3 for white-ish text on a gray background). I also changed it so that when I click “hide likes” it only hides liked fics and not liked authors (i.e. hides fics I’ve read, but not unread fics by authors I like), changed the color of the like/dislike/etc links to match the highlighting color and to show up better, and changed the way it highlights authors (I think the default is bold/strikethrough which doesn't really catch my eye. I changed it to highlight the author name in red/green):
Tumblr media
Tumblr media
Here are my configured scripts if you’d like to use them instead of tweaking yourself (you need to install both):
FanFictionNavigator
FanFictionNavigator - Colors
Note: Your settings for this script will sync via Tampermonkey but not your data (i.e. fics you’ve liked/marked/etc). If you ever switch between browsers, you’ll need to go to your Ao3 Dashboard and click FFNOptions, export your data, then go through the same process to import it into the new browser.
AO3: Kudosed and seen history - highlight or hide works you kudosed/bookmarked/marked as seen. If you want to use this with FanFictionNavigator, you’ll need to turn off “highlight bookmarks” from the settings under the “Seen Works” dropdown that gets added to your Ao3 navbar or FFN’s colors won’t show. Again, data doesn’t sync between browsers but you can copy it from the dropdown settings. However, it pulls your kudosed and bookmarked fics from Ao3 itself, so that will always show. It's just seen/skipped that doesn't sync:
Tumblr media
Ao3 download buttons - adds a download button to the works listings page so you don’t have to open the fic to download it. However, it also doesn’t play nicely with FFN’s colors, so I’m using AO3 Review + Last Chapter Shortcut + Kudos-sortable Bookmarks script which also has a download button that works with FFN (a small down arrow next to the author name). The download button doesn’t work as-is from that link, so here’s my tweaked version based off of this comment. You can configure what format you want it to download by default in the script. There’s also a tweak in the comments to fix kudos-sorting, but it overloads Ao3 and you get a “retry later” error for a few minutes when you try to open Ao3, so I don’t recommend it. I don’t know if any of the other functionalities of the script work because I don’t use them, but it looks like there are tweak suggestions in other comments you can try:
Tumblr media
I was using Ao3 Replace Words to replace words in fics that bug me but I realized it wasn’t working on mobile, so I’m using zensurf instead which is not Ao3-specific but works basically the same way. If you want to limit it to just Ao3 (so it doesn’t change words on non-fic sites), just add this
// @include http://archiveofourown.org/*
// @include https://archiveofourown.org/*
Above this line
// ==/UserScript==
(function() {
You can // @include other fic sites like ffnet that way too.
AO3: Links to Last Chapter and Entire Works does what it says on the tin, but the creator was kind enough to give me a code snippet to add that makes the “E” (for Entire Work) appear next to all works and add ?view_full_work=true&view_adult=true to the work URL so that I can easily right-click and share to Instapaper and have it be saved correctly (not just the first chapter but the whole work + not the content warning screen for NR/M/E works). Here is the script with this tweak applied:
Tumblr media
I think those are the only ones that I’ve done special tweaks for. Here are some others that I find useful that either don’t require any configuration, or should be pretty straightforward to configure and are explained on the script page.
AO3 author+tags quick-search - doesn’t require configuration
Generates quick links from AO3 fics to more by the same author in the same fandom (or character/pairing/any other tag):
Tumblr media
Remove leading spaces in AO3 - doesn’t require config
Removes the leading indents for paragraphs in AO3 works.
Ao3 Only Show Primary Pairing - you have to enter the pairings you want in the script, and you can change how early in the sequence they must appear before the work is hidden. Also works with character tags.
Hides works where specified pairing isn't the first listed. Hidden works show a placeholder that you can click to unhide:
Tumblr media
AO3: highlight tags - have to enter the tags you want highlighted, as well as the color you want. It matches case so you may have to enter both “Dog” and “dog”, for example.
Configure tags to be highlighted with different colors. This makes a tag more obvious to your eye when browsing. I use it to highlight things I’m wary of in red so I don’t miss them and start reading a fic I might not want.
AO3: Tag Hider - configure how many tags you want to see before it hides them
Hide tags automatically when there are too many tags. Add hide/show tags button to browsing page and reading page.
AO3 Remove Double-Spacing - no config
Removes awkward double spaces between paragraphs on AO3. Doesn’t smush together paragraphs that have a single line break - it leaves those alone.
ao3 series collapser - no config
Collapse works that are later than part 1 of a series. Leaves a placeholder so you can uncollapse if you want to see it.
AO3 Blocker - no config, but you enter what you want to block from the added navbar dropdown in Ao3
Fork of ao3 savior; blocks works based on certain conditions. I find this simpler to use than Ao3 savior.
FYI there are also style scripts for Pinboard on greasyfork and userstyles.org (this site is slow af for some reason, so be patient while it loads). I use show unread bookmarks more clearly and Modern Pinboard Style (basically a dark mode). Neither require config unless you just want to tweak the settings to your liking. To install to Tampermonkey from userstyles, scroll down to “Install style as userscript”.
I also use these extensions in Kiwi:
Ao3rdr - Adds a star rating system (pictured in some of the screenshots above) to Ao3 works that only you can see. This one will sync your data between devices if you use the cloud sync option, which I recommend so you don’t lose your data if something happens to your device or browser.
Dark Reader - not really necessary for Ao3 if you use Reversi skin, but does make all browser pages dark mode if you want it on sites other than Ao3.
Speaking of Ao3 skins, I have another one set up in conjunction with Reversi that shows all the fandoms on a user’s profile, rather than having to click “expand”:
Tumblr media
Unfortunately, I can’t remember where I found this. To set it up yourself, go to your Ao3 -> Dashboard -> Skins -> Create Site Skin, fill in the Title (has to be unique), and paste the code below in the CSS box:
#user-fandoms ol.index {
padding-bottom: 0;
text-align: center;
}
#user-fandoms ol.index li {
display: inline;
margin-right: .5em;
line-height: 2.15em;
}
#user-fandoms ol#fandom_full_list {
padding-top: 0;
padding-bottom: 1.5em;
display: block !important;
}
#user-fandoms p.actions {
display: none;
}
Then hit Submit -> Use. There are ways to hide or highlight various elements (ships, characters, blurbs, work stats, etc) on a works listing page using skins on Ao3. This is getting long so I’m not going to go into that, but I’m happy to help if you want to try it. It’s very easy.
Once you have everything configured on Tampermonkey on your desktop, you can migrate it to your mobile device in one of two ways:
Option 1: Go to Tampermonkey settings and change Config Mode to Advanced
Go down to Script Sync and select your preferred cloud service and save
It will ask you to log in to said cloud service
Install Tampermonkey in Kiwi and do the same thing
Wait for it to sync (this can be slow)
It should sync any changes you make moving forward, but again, it’s slow
Option 2: go to Utilities and check all 3 checkboxes under general (include script storage, include Tampermonkey settings, include external script resources)
Either export to your preferred cloud service or
Export as a zip file, move it to your mobile device, go to this same screen and import
I would recommend exporting as a zip for a backup even if you don’t use it to migrate your scripts
You can unzip and upload individual script files (.js) on this page if you ever need to reinstall a single script with your settings instead of all of them
Let me know if you run into any issues and I can try to help! The script writers are also super nice and helpful if you reach out to them. Yay fandom!

For the ask game, would you please answer questions numbered 2, 8, 14 (all of your titles have such cool names), 18 (I hope Abditory isn't one of them as that story rocks), 21, 24, 29, 30, 33, 34, 44, 51, 62, 76, 82, 85, 88, 90, and 98.
Sorry for asking so many, but I love your work! Entombed gave me so many feels! I found your stories because author Breanie said to read them in her author's notes. Best rec ever! Thank you for answering.
Wow, that is a lot of asks! Thank you so much for wanting to know so much about little ole me. I think I hit them all in this and my apologies if I missed one. Let me know if I missed one. @breaniebree is awesome and my writing BFF. She is amazing, and I love her.
2) What fandoms do you write for and do you have a particular favourite if you write for more than one?
So, I’ve written for The X-Files, Supernatural, and Harry Potter. I currently only write for Harry Potter. I would say Harry Potter has always been the most fun.
8) Where do you take your inspiration from?
Random shit. Brontide came to me because I was browsing the HPFanfiction subreddit looking for a story suggestion and someone asked for a story where Harry was addicted to Felix. Only one unfinished dimensional time travel story was listed. It idea sparked me to write my own version. Entombed came to me because I was rewatching Buffy the Vampire Slayer where Buffy was buried alive. I knew I wanted to bury Ginny alive. As I stated in the author’s notes of last Kalopsia chapter, I drew inspiration from the Djinn storyline in Supernatural. I write about things I know, too. I have young kids at home so I like writing the Potter children as young because I can mimic their mannerisms in my writing. I’ve even asked my kids to say certain words to emulate their speech pattern in my writing if I’m writing that age group.
14) How did you come up with the title for the XXX? You can ask about multiple stories.
I HATE coming up with titles. My newest trend has been to literally Google “unique words”. There are a ton of Pinterest accounts who make fancy word and definition pictures. I scroll through all these little unique words and pick out ones I think fit a story. Sometimes I Google a unique word for BLANK and see if I can get a cool version of that name. @breaniebree actually helped me with Entombed.
18) Do you have any abandoned WIP’s? What made you abandon them?
Sadly, I would put Abditory in this category. Never say never though. I think about it from time to time. Honestly, I abandoned it due to such a negative response I was receiving and the lack of positive response. I became discouraged. It wasn’t even negative response due to my writing, it was literally a bunch of “why would you waste your time writing a story about the biggest plot hole in the books? JKR butchered the whole SK storyline and it’s unbearable to read.” So, basically, my reviews and PMs were filled with JKR hate over that plot point in the books. They heavily outweighed the positive reviews I received. Honestly, I think that’s why a bulk of stories get abandoned - lack of positive reviews or enthusiasm for a story. If I didn’t get so many great reviews for my stories, I don’t know if I’d be able to finish them or continuing writing new ones. Fanfiction is free, (as it should be) but it’s a lot of time and hard work. A little appreciation goes a LONG way. So, my advice, review everything you love reading and encourage writers to keep writing. I always say in my authors notes that reviews make me want to write and inspire me. That’s the truth. The moment I stop getting reviews will probably be the time I take a writing break again.
21) Tell me about another writer(s) who you admire? What is it about them that you admire?
@breaniebree. I mean she’s dedicated years to a single story with so many plot lines and characters that I’m amazed she did it. She’s a fantastic writer, and I definitely consider her my writing BFF. I feel like I’ve learned a lot from her and enjoy talking about writing with her so much. I’m so glad we’ve become friends.
24) How do you feel about writing smutty scenes?
Horrified. Anytime I get a little steamy in my stories, it goes immediately to @breaniebree who usually adds way too much smut and then I cut it down to still be somewhat PG-13 in order to appeal to a wider audience.
29) Do you have a story that you feel doesn’t get as much love as you’d like?
I feel like Kalopsia isn’t getting as much love as my other stories. I’m way behind in my normal review count per chapter. I wonder if it’s just the confusing storyline or if it’s just not as fun to read? But I was definitely worried it wouldn’t get the love I thought it deserved when I started writing it and it’s lived up to that expectation.
30) In contrast to 29, is there a story which gets lots of love which you kinda eye roll at?
Cronus Rising. People still recommend it occasionally and I still get random reviews. I’m like, “why????” Its horribly written and a stupid plot line. I literally was getting back into writing after not writing for a good five years, so it’s abysmal. I’ve often wanted to rage delete it.
33) What’s the biggest compliment you’ve gotten?
When someone tells me I should write an original novel and they’d buy the hell out of it. I do have some original novel ideas floating around (one I’ve been writing since I was like 15), but crippling fear of rejection from publishers have stopped me from ever actually finish an original novel.
34) What’s the harshest criticism you’ve gotten?
I got some criticism in Brontide for having drama for drama’s sake with no real purpose or goal for said drama. I felt my drama served a purpose, drove the story along, and I add a lot of fluffy and cute family moments. I feel like in real life, when you to your loved one is going through sometime, it feels like nonstop drama and bad news and like a dark cloud just follows you. I wanted to emulate that in real life. So Harry’s POV was often drab because HE was the one going through something horrific and it was all doom and gloom for him.
44) What is the last line you wrote?
“You never think I listen to your ramblings, but it’s kind of hard to block out, mate.”
51) From one to five stars, how would you rate your writing? (No downplaying yourself!)
Um... I’d say a 3. I think I have some good and unique plots for stories but sometimes I struggle on how to execute those on paper effectively. I struggle with descriptions, action, and showing rather than telling. But I do think I’m good at dialogue and capturing a character’s personality. So, 3.
62) Tell us about a WIP you’re excited about.
A lot! I have a Teddy/Victoire stalker story in the works that I’m excited about. I have (this is going to sound weird) but an outsider rom-com planned where Ron/Hermione breakup right before Hinny’s wedding and Hinny struggles to get them back together before the big day. I have a Potter family vacation fluff/comedy story planned. I have a game night one-shot planned. I have a short story about Luna’s wedding. So many that I want to write and don’t know which one to write first!!
76) Is there anything you’ve wanted to write, but you’ve been too scared to try?
I’d say no. I’ve always tried to write my ideas down. Some I’ve never finished because inspiration peters off and some I plan on finishing once my newest big project is done.
82) Summarize a random fic of yours in 10 words or less.
Harry goes through some shit, and Ginny is his soulmate.
85) Ramble about any fic-related thing you want!
I don’t understand why people don’t ship Harry/Ginny more. I don’t understand the Harry/Daphne obsessions (like just why???) or the Harry/Hermione ship at all. I always see people asking for story recommendation and they specific say “no Harry/Ginny”. They are literally perfect for one another and they are soulmates.
88) If you could ask one other fanfic author three questions about their writing, writing process, or works, what would they be and who would you ask?
@breaniebree .
1.) How do you organize all your charts? Send me the ALL the charts. Because I don’t understand how you keep everything straight!
2.) How do you write so much? You’re like a little writing machine in a cute little package.
3.) Where do all the ideas come from? In a dream? Just thinking? Driving? Do you write everything out in your head like meeee? Can I have some of your writing mojo?
90) How do you process and deal with negative reviews?
I obsess over them. I analyze them. I may get bummed out and not write for a few days. If you don’t like what I write, then don’t read or review. It’s a hobby. I do this for free. I’m not asking you to critique me. Give me a nice review or ask me a question, but don’t be cruel or mean because you can hide behind a keyboard and be a bully to make yourself feel superior.
98) If you had to give up either snacks and drinks during writing sessions, or music, which would you find more difficult to say goodbye to and why?
Music. I grew up with three older brothers. My house was always rowdy and loud and obnoxious. I need it to be loud. I can’t stand the silence or focus when it’s silent. I need music to help me think and write. When I’m home alone, I always turn on the TV or music, because I can’t stand when it’s silent. I think I’d go insane.

Me again sorry if I’m spamming can request how the boys react to going to the future with mc be everywhere’s in lockdown thank you and stay safe love you~ (๑ゝω╹๑)
there’s probably a shit ton of them hcs around these parts and i feel like i’m just re-wording a lot of things so like,, ahaha i’m sorry. also the character cast is u-t forces cause ngl we have a lot of oda forces request previously and the coming requests dw just showing love to my kasugayama boys
—shingen:
the moment you stepped into the good ol’ modern times, the first thing you realized was that there’s a pandemic going on and with shingen being immunocompromised, it’s surely a danger more than ever. without a word, you quickly drag him into your apartment first thing’s first.
you quickly told him to take a shower (to which he’d probably jokingly invite you in, but to be fair, he doesn’t really know how bathtubs and shower heads are used). you didn’t have men’s clothing, not for his size so to say, so you just settled with your big, stretchy jackets you had.
after explaining the situation, you did consider going to the hospital for his treatment,, on one hand, if shingen doesn’t do it, he’ll. . .you know. and if he does, there’s a chance that he could get infected (with hospitals being a breeding ground for the virus).
in the end, you decided to do it.
even after that, you were always careful with things like going out, mostly you taking care of the shopping and everything. you kept reminding him to wash his hands, social distance, etc.
and frankly, while he understands social distancing, he doesn’t like it. he just wants to hug and kiss his deity lover! prepare for the man to just recite poems so damn dramatically for this.
(^ this includes the amount of pickup lines increasing by a lot. the fact that he can now search some up from google doesn’t help.)
there’s a lot of things you do in quarantine, and you’ve found that the amount of carpentry has increased significantly prior to this.
said carpentry ranges from tables and chairs, to small decoration carvings of birds and the likes. the smell of wood now wafts in the air more than ever.
you’ve now replaced yukimura for his dieting of sweets. his illness may be gone, but teeth problems could still arise! but shingen can have some modern candy once in a while, as a treat.
as for the reaction of the future in general—shingen finds it so, so warming how relatively peaceful it is compared to the sengoku. yes, protests are happening and there’s practically a new type of war going on (he most certainly advocates for human rights, etc), but it’s a step to a new light. a world he wants.
—kenshin:
you’ve had conversations of the future before—most of them on a,,, bizzare note, with the topic being on swords and war (or lack thereof), etc. a silent agreement was made between you two to not have kenshin be in the future since he’s missing one of the things he ‘needs to live with’ (them being war, sake, and you).
but a lot of improv had to be done when the wormhole was much more stubborn and managed to pull you through.
right after you figured out what happened, a security guard immediately came and told you to wear a mask (considering it’s a must). you had to haul kenshin back to your house before he attacks the guard with his sword.
after cleaning the two of you from any virus, you began running things over to him about the future. aaaand he’s already thinking about keeping you in your house by any means so you don’t get caught by it.
but you managed to convince him otherwise, you did have to go shopping and the thought of kenshin doing it with all the foreign technology around him made you sweat nervously.
no, kenshin, sake isn’t a need but you will buy it for him cause he won’t be able to survive, you feel.
you thought a peaceful modern world was bad enough for kenshin to reside in, ohoho, wait until you realize he can’t even go outside and fight sasuke and all that jazz.
a thought crossed your mind to learn how to duel and fight using mop sticks but he shot down that thought.
in the meantime, most of your days were spent in the garden with his sea of bunnies (how they got there, you don’t know) and mostly tending to them so they don’t contract the virus (kenshin almost flipped when you told him that rabbits could do that).
and by night, you spent it by looking out to the city skies (but the light from the buildings doesn’t hit like the stars do) and drinking sake.
he’d also be against social distancing, but—unsurprisingly—only to you. after a while that rule goes out the window as he cuddles you to death from being touch-starved.
i feel like he’d be interested in the past (or future, to him) wars just because. he’d read up about the wars from all sorts of places. and sometimes, you’d catch him with a deadly smile and say, “that sounds like a great idea, i should wage one like that.”
you had to remind him no, you can’t start a war cause you want to.
—yukimura:
he’d flip straight up by the idea of there being a pandemic in your time. you never talked about this when you told him you came from the future!
he’d probably groan at first with the thought of having to hole up for a long time, but he’d quickly understand. it’s for the benefit of the immunocompromised and the old, he’d like to help by following the rules.
besides, he has you. he’ll cope.
at first, his plan was for you to just let him do all the work during lockdown, like going out and stuff. he was non-chalant, if a bit stubborn.
until you mention groceries.
you start firing him questions, do you know what we need? do you know how much of it we need? or which one is which at all?
he shuts up after that.
yukimura will definitely do those workout things on youtube, and you’ll probably be roped into it. rip to you but you’re gettin’ buff during these lazy times.
small, silly arguments would most likely be the norm for you. it’s a bit of spicy bickering back and forth, you both find it amusing and it’s a way to stimulate the brain, no matter how stupid the topic is.
it can range from if mugwort mochi is better than chestnut dumplings, and you’ve even gone out to search for light topics to have small debates over.
occasionally, he’d invite you outside to watch the skies. the colorful lights from the tall buildings kind of reminds you of the loud fireworks during the festival back in the sengoku—only if they became stars instead.
much like shingen, yukimura is thankful of the positive changes in the future. horrible things may have stayed, but as long as there are people advocating for a fair and peaceful world, he can spend his days beside you.
—sasuke:
as any situation, sasuke was prepared as ever. the second you went to the modern days, he pulled out a spare mask (dw it’s clean) from his pocket and handed it to you. remembering the rule of mandatory masks, you quickly put it on.
you couldn’t really have a discussion about time-travel in the open, so you both went to your apartment.
sasuke is definitely well-versed in the virus, dumping most everything he knows unto you to better arm you with it yourself.
somehow, he could calculate how much groceries and overall shopping in any timeframe. a month, two, etc. so you find yourself bringing him out shopping with you.
since he’s now in the modern world, the amount of him being holed up kinda increases. if he’s learnt so much from a youtube tutorial, imagine the absolute machine he’d be by the end of it.
yeah he’s that guy who learns 45 million skills.
sasuke might seem unbothered by having to keep distance from you, but he really isn’t. you can tell; by the way his lips tighten, or the way his eyebrows furrow sometimes.
would regularly remind you to wash your hands, and would always say to take a bath each time you go home from the outside. if you’re ever sick, he’ll somehow have the perfect medicine ready.
you binge watch shows all the time, it’s another form of bonding cause you two already know about them. you’d spend nights on the couch with a blanket and snacks, discussing about things ranging from theories to crack cotent.
you really wouldn’t trade it for the world.
—yoshimoto:
honestly, yoshimoto isn’t even much interested in the future. mostly just how far art’s gotten (and trust me, it’s gotten so far). such is the situation when the wormhole caught you two.
he probably got sidetracked from the first art he could see (probably street art in this scenario) after you barely identified you went to the future.
again you must haul this pretty man after being told off by a security guard for not wearing a mask.
your biggest problem is probably his massive fascination with modern art. endless hours were used to have a talk that, no, he can’t go to an exhibit right now.
so you improvise.
you gave him a hand-me-down phone, or just share a laptop, and teach him the concept of digital art, along with how to operate certain social medias so he can browse around.
downside is he is currently—and unknowingly— planning to get you broke by commissioning artists. also he may or may not’ve been doing posting questionable things on his accounts (you really shouldn’t’ve given him one,,)
and so to fix the problem created to solve a problem, you decided to take it into your own hands.
popping out all the drawing supplies you’ve ever had, you began to doodle anything and everything, every day. and each one, you’d show it off to yoshimoto like a child to their parent.
and each time, he still looks at them so lovingly, no matter if it could hypothetically be classified as chicken scratches. as long as you make it, in his mind, it’ll be something worth cherished for.
but your strong suit has always been stitching, so you start a lot of projects of art on clothing. it counts as the one above.
oh—you know those pretty cloth masks? you now have about 100 of these at least, courtesy to yoshimoto.

I found this meme while browsing “Pride and Prejudice memes” on Google. It is from https://knowyourmeme.com/photos/1988460 and I really enjoyed it because it pokes fun at a minor character with a flat character.
The meme template is in the form of a Tinder profile account and it presents Charlotte Lucas, whose biography says “looking for a living, creating man and... yep that’s pretty much the only requirement.” Charlotte is Elizabeth’s friend, and not a major character or plot-pusher in the novel. One of her most notable quotes is “Happiness in marriage is entirely a matter of chance” (16). This quote is remarkable, especially when looking at the direct response that Elizabeth gives her friend: “You make me laugh, Charlotte; but it is not sound. You know it is not sound, and that you would never act in this way yourself” (16). Through this piece of dialogue, Charlotte is made out to be a more cynical and calculated character than the main character, Elizabeth. They FOIL each other well and, through Elizabeth’s flat way of viewing marriage as a business proposition and requirement, the epic story of love with Darcy and Elizabeth becomes all the more powerful.
Another interesting aspect of this meme is that Charlotte’s location is written as 3 miles away. 3 miles has a large significance in this novel, as it is describes as the distance between Longbourn and Netherfield, and can be seen as a symbol of the distance between where the Bennetts are and where they want to be. Charlotte, like Mrs. Bennett, strongly desires to be married because she is not wealthy and needs financial security. She too, sees a man like like Bingley and desires to be engaged to a wealthy man– a prospect that is so close yet so far, just like the 3 miles referenced in the meme.
The meme says “looking for a living, creating man and... yep that’s pretty much the only requirement.” I think that the meme-creator’s choice to add the ellipsis add to the meaning of the simple sentence in that it creates the sense that Charlotte does not make the full effort to make it seem like she believes in true love. The structure of the sentence sets her up to maybe add a characteristic that is unique or matters for a happy relationship, but instead she gives up. This reflects her flat character, and though only 14 words, pretty perfectly sums up Charlotte Lucas to a T.
Jane Austen never does anything on accident or haphazardly, each character is carefully molded to move the story along somehow and add to the meaning of her novels. Charlotte is no exception. She is always seen with the Bennett sisters, and her best friend is Izzie. Izzie is different than her sisters in that she cares about true love, is intelligent, and always true to herself. She is multi-faceted, and, in order to emphasize this, Jane Austen created Charlotte, who, as shown in this meme, has a fairly cynical and simple outlook in life that greatly contrasts that of Elizabeth.

If There’s a Place I Could Be - Chapter Sixty
If There’s a Place I Could Be Tag
March 20th, 2002
Emile redid the math, looking over the numbers over and over again. It was possible. He’d have to be smart about investing money to get the extra funds he needed, and he’d have to skimp and save every last penny he could, but by the end of the year, he’d be able to buy a shop. If Remy agreed, they could make it so he could start his own shop. Emile would buy the property, but the rest could be all Remy’s.
There was the matter of getting this done without Remy being the wiser, however. If Remy caught on to what Emile was doing he’d insist that Emile save the money for something else. But if he got Remy to save his money, and Emile saved his own, they could do this. They could get Remy an epic origin story that rivalled the greats in the comics.
  April 11th, 2002
Emile checked the time he had left on the computer at the library. It wasn’t a whole lot, but it should be enough. He had been looking into this off and on for months, saving away most of his extra funds that didn’t go to dates purely to fund this crazy adventure. He googled private investigators in the area, looking around to make sure Remy wasn’t nearby. He opened his email account and looked through the listings, finding the one he had looked up before and found good reviews from. He copied the investigator’s email address into the computer and composed a quick email, asking about discreteness and the rate that the guy charged.
He knew it might take a couple days for the guy to get back to him, so he logged off the computer and blew out a breath. He doubted the man would say no, and he had a good record of finding people who had supposedly dropped off the face of the Earth. But Emile still worried. After all, PI’s could get very expensive very quickly, and Emile didn’t have access to his trust fund until the third of May.
Determination still drove him to send the email, though. Emile knew that this could work. It might take a while, but it could be done. If anyone could find Toby, it was this Dice character. He had a good eye, and he knew how to use it to find a trail. The reviews Emile had found said as much, at any rate.
He walked out of the computer room with a sigh. He could come back tomorrow and see if Dice had replied, but Emile wished he didn’t have to wait in limbo.
Remy bounded over to him with excitement in his eyes, and Emile smiled. Remy was growing bouncier as time went on. The holidays were mere memories by this point, there were no huge, groundbreaking milestones to stress either of them out, it was just...quiet. They were free to be weird, to be excited, to be however they wanted. And Remy seemed to get bouncy whenever he found something he particularly liked, which tended to be a new recipe book, or an idea for coffee that Remy had never considered before. Sure, he would still get excited over comics, but there weren’t too many comics at the library, so Emile suspected it was one of the former things that had Remy hyped up. “What did you find this time, Rem?” Emile asked with a good-natured laugh.
“I found a book on the history of the uses of caffeine in the science section!” Remy exclaimed, dragging Emile to his table. “It’s super cool!”
“Since when do you browse the science section?” Emile asked.
“Since I was bored looking at mystery novels, wandered around, and ended up there. My eyes found this, and I’ve been taking a look through it, and it’s amazing! Did you know that caffeine is actually supposed to be a poison? That’s why you can’t feed it to animals! Humans are just weird enough that we can consume it and not get hurt!” Remy’s eyes lit up like fireworks on the fourth of July. “Like, science and history? Usually not my thing, if I go into nonfiction usually it means I’m looking for recipes, but this is so cool! Coffee beans have been used for centuries, if not millenia! How crazy is that?! Coffee comes all the way from Ethiopia, and now it’s used all over the world! It’s...I just...it’s so cool, Emile!”
“I know that,” Emile said, grinning. “Purely by your enthusiasm. I’ve never seen you this excited, not even over comics!”
“I never got to learn interesting things in school,” Remy said. “Even in college, I knew everything they were teaching me, but I never knew about this stuff before!”
Emile just nodded along patiently. “You know, if I had known you’d get this excited about learning things you wanted to learn about, I would have insisted we make regular trips to the library forever ago. Do you want to make them weekly, now?”
Remy’s eyes were wide. “Oh, could we? I doubt this is the only book about this sort of thing here, I bet I could find all sorts of cool stuff in the history section, and learn how they used to use coffee and the like in Ye Olden Times, maybe improve or work on some of those ideas until I can make them function, do you have any idea how cool that would be?!”
“It would be amazing,” Emile said with a laugh. “You know, though, you might have to save more of your money if you want to experiment with that sort of thing. We might not go out on so many dates.”
“I don’t care,” Remy breathed. “If I saved money, I could discover dozens of new recipes with good ingredients! I could almost open my own shop if I figured out those sorts of things!”
“That would be amazing,” Emile said with a grin. “Just remember, you don’t want to save up just enough to experiment and then not have any extra funds to repeat what you did and get that good sort of food again!”
“Yeah, yeah,” Remy agreed. “I’ll probably be saving up for several months, just to be sure.”
“Yeah, like...hold off until around...say, six months from now? Then experiment to your heart’s content. And don’t forget to keep track of what works and what doesn’t!” Emile said.
“I know, Emile, it’s my system,” Remy said, grinning.
“I know you know, but a reminder never hurts,” Emile said with a shrug. “Anyway, I’ve done what I came to do, papers are finished, research is done, and I even got to send out a couple emails to friends. You ready to go?”
“Yeah, sure,” Remy said, closing the book and leaving it on the table.
They walked out into the parking lot and Emile laughed as it started to rain. “April showers,” he said.
“We live in the city, Emile, how many May flowers can there possibly be?” Remy asked.
Emile shrugged. “The first half of the rhyme applies, at least,” he said. “Still want to head to the shelter today?”
“Can we at least drive and park nearby? I don’t want to get absolutely drenched in the walk from home there, and then dry off only to get drenched again on the walk back,” Remy said.
Emile rolled his eyes up in thought and his fingers twitched. “I’m not sure what parking lots are near the shelter, do you know?”
“Yeah, I know a couple,” Remy said.
“Cool,” Emile said, tossing Remy the car keys and getting in.
Remy fell into the driver’s seat and he stuck the keys in the ignition, but he didn’t move beyond that. Emile glanced over. “You good, Rem?”
“Yeah,” Remy said, starting to life and starting the car. “Just thinking.”
“About anything in particular?” Emile asked.
Remy turned slightly red. “Toby,” he admitted. “I’m just wondering what he would think about me doing these sort of things with you. If he’d approve.”
“Why wouldn’t he?” Emile asked.
Remy sighed. “For all his protection and love, he still sometimes doesn’t understand certain things. Like, he gave me ‘The Talk’ when I told him I was gay. But he’d still make jokes in poor taste about gay or trans people. He understands that homeless people aren’t all homeless just because they’re lazy and can’t find a job, but he’s not proactive when it comes to helping them. He’s...not our parents, but he has some bad habits. Don’t get me wrong, I still love him! And he’s definitely gotten better the few times I would take him aside and explain why he shouldn’t say certain things. Fact remains that he’s got some views that aren’t...up to date.”
Emile didn’t know how to respond to that. Did that mean that Toby was actually like Remy’s parents? Did he hurt Remy, but Remy was so wrapped up in the fact that Toby kept him physically safe that he disregarded any emotional damage? “Do you think he’s capable of change? Realistically speaking.”
“Hm? Oh, yeah,” Remy agreed. “I’ve seen him change myself. From constantly making gay jokes when he was a kid to showing me compassion when I came out, all because one or two of his friends wound up being gay. He’s capable of change, for sure. He just...doesn’t always think about whether or not he should change if something doesn’t immediately affect him or the people he cares about. He’s not like my parents, Emile.”
“I never said he was,” Emile said.
Remy glanced at him. “I know you were thinking about it, though. It’s not a big deal, you’re concerned for me and you didn’t directly call Toby a bad person. You checked to make sure he wasn’t like my parents before making a decision. I appreciate that.”
Emile nodded. “Of course. I try not to make snap judgements about people, but I did realize I made more snap judgements than I thought, especially when we talked about your parents. Now, I try and make it a point to gather information to make an informed decision, rather than just listening to one side of the story and making plans and expressing feelings based only on that.”
“Huh,” Remy said. “You’re capable of change, too. Nice to know.”
“Did you think I wasn’t?” Emile asked, confused.
“Not particularly,” Remy said, “But it’s always nice to have confirmation.”
Emile nodded, and when Remy parked in a lot that was just a block from the shelter, Emile arched his eyebrows. “I didn’t realize this lot was that close,” he said.
“This may be a city, Emile, but it’s a small one. I know my way around it pretty well,” Remy said, getting out of the car.
Emile grabbed Remy’s hand as they walked to the shelter. “One of the many things I love about you,” Emile said. “You’re incredibly smart.”
“I’m not,” Remy said, turning red. “I know how to use a checkbook, but that’s about it.”
“You’re smart with numbers, and with food, and you enjoy learning, just not conventionally,” Emile said. “You’re sharp, Rem, don’t sell yourself short.”
“Look, Emile, I can’t make a career out of any of those things. And before you mention there are lots of jobs where you need to be good with numbers, I’m not becoming an accountant.
Emile laughed. “I wasn’t going to suggest that,” he said. “You’d die of boredom doing someone else’s financials within weeks. And I like you alive, thank you very much.”
Remy shook his head with a grin. “I don’t know what you see in me, Emile.”
“A brilliant man with a heart of gold who just has a little problem with expressing himself,” Emile said. “Someone who cares for people once he gets to know them, but is also pragmatic in how, exactly, he goes about helping those in need of advice. You make sure that you’re taken care of before you help others, and you keep my bleeding heart in check. You’re my partner in crime, my partner in general, and I couldn’t be happier about that fact.”
Remy was as red as a tomato and he groaned. “Emile,” he complained. “I can’t be blushing when we get to the shelter, it’ll ruin my cool image!”
Emile laughed. “Rem, since when have you ever had a cool image there? You may be the top chef, but all the kids know you’re smitten for me, the adults know that you can help with financials and will at the drop of a hat if they merely ask. They know you’re nice.”
“Nice and cool are not mutually exclusive,” Remy retorted. “The kids have called me cool before, but if I show up with a huge blush over my face, they might see through the ruse!”
“And what would they see if they saw through it?” Emile asked.
“A gay disaster,” Remy deadpanned.
Emile burst out laughing. Remy always knew exactly what to say.

hiii, i just found your blog and i love your content! i was wondering if you had any advice/posts on deciding the basics about your ocs? (like clothing, skin tone, appearance) i write fantasy and i can’t seem to get a solid visual on my ocs despite knowing their backstory and personalities x
Hello! I’m so glad you’re enjoying your time here! I wish you the best of luck on your writing project! :D
I don’t have many posts on the subject but I’d love to try to help you. What always helps me is the use of Pinterest!
Especially through the use of their boards feature so that you can organize anything important about the character, from appearance to personality to outfits and race. It’s an excellent resource for keeping your thoughts organized.
Faceclaims, are always key! It’s important to have a visual, and finding one, just by browsing Pinterest or google images of people can be really helpful! It can be anyone from celebrities to stock photos, even your own friends, and family. Moodboards/Aesthetic Boards are also very helpful!
It’s always easier to put a name to a face. And it’s cool you already have the personality part all worked out!
The basics of OCs is always the author’s choice. There’s not much I can say about it, but always go with the first image you get when you think of them!
It’s important to note details like skin color, age, gender, etc. Make sure you’re writing these basics down in a journal or notebook, they’ll help you a lot in the long run! As you start to think more about their appearance, you’ll begin to think more about what they might wear.
Always, always, always try to know what your character is holding! If they’re an assassin, they’ll have weapons, correct? Know their weapons. Does this assassin have anything important to them? Maybe they stuff a picture of a loved one in their coat pocket to look at because they miss them. Take into account things like climate and weather. If your character lives in a cold wintery place, they might have a thick jacket made of furs. If your character hunts in the forest, they may need some sort of camouflage. Question everything, and provide answers for it. Your readers will certainly want explanations. Leave out anything that may be unnecessary and doesn’t move the plot forward.
Important details like these define the character! Knowing about where they live and their environment can help with outfits/design!
In fantasy especially, it’s important to research the mythical races you want to use (ex. elves, demons, etc.) so that you can craft your characters around them. Diversity is also very important, especially if your characters are human! Drawing from real life is also very important as well.
Here are a few articles/posts I found that might also be helpful.

How to find fanfic from the olden days
So you've discovered some old 90's show and damn, you so want to read the fic for that, but you can't find it. It's from The Olden Days before Tumblr, before AO3, and in some cases, even before Livejournal and fanfiction.net. It was in the days of Geocities. It was NOT in the days of yahoo groups because even I don't know how to take you back in time that far. But I did recently go and dig up all the old Star Trek: Voyager fic so let me show you how to proceed. Here be dragons, of course. Also vampire slayers. Warrior princesses. The smoking dude from the X-Files, whatever his name. And lots and lots and lots of Star Trek.
You'll probably already have checked out AO3 and come up mostly empty. However, if you're the kind of person who browses AO3 by filtering for tags or warnings, or by entering complex keyword chains into the search bar, take the following into account: When AO3 first came about, a lot of writers uploaded back-ups of their fic. However, in those days, there was a heated fandom debate on about whether or not you should use warnings -- this is the direct origin of AO3's "Author chose not to use warnings," as it is. So a lot of people either chose that option or just didn't tag warnings. Also the AO3 tag pool was still empty. A lot of those fics aren't tagged at all, or not in the way you would expect. So keep in mind that that perfect fic tailored to your wishes just didn't show up in your search. Doesn't mean it doesn't exist.
Once done on AO3, you migrate to Livejournal. LJ is hard to navigate if you've never used it. But the first place you want to go is crack_van. For years, crack_van was the ultimate multi-fandom fic rec community. Being recced there was a little bit like winning an Emmy. If there's any olden fic for your fandom at all, you will find it in the tag list on the left.
tvtropes.org often has fic rec lists for featured fandoms, too, often very good ones. That’s also a great way for discovering new fic in current fandoms, incidentally.
The further you go back, the more often you will click on fic links and find them dead, the stories long gone. If the link would have led you to a story posted on an LJ blog, but it was deleted, see below. If the link lead you off-site, you can attempt to conjure the story back up by way of the Wayback Machine. Enter the URL in the search bar and the WBM will either directly lead you to an archived copy of the page or show you a selection of all the time stamps when a copy was made. So you can try looking at the page in 2011, 2006 etc. and make your way to what you're looking for that way. Keep in mind that links on those archived pages don't always work, you'll have to save that link and reenter it in the WBM search bar sometimes to reach other sub pages, like the next part of the fic.
If the WBM fails you or the story linked to a deleted page on a platform like LJ to begin with, search on Google for the fic name and author. It's very likely you'll find that the author crossposted the fic to another site at one point. The fic might be in the search results or you might find another rec that linked to the alternative page. If that link is dead, too, again you can go through the WBM.
Of course when you find an author you like you can check out their other fic and, in some cases, their rec lists to find more of the good stuff. There were a lot more rec lists then. You might also discover old archives centered specifically around a character or a ship. So you can search those. When you do that, you might find that fic terms aren’t used the way you’d assume now. Just yesterday I browsed an archive that used “gen” to refer to straight pairings. The terms just weren’t fully established yet.
Finally, it always pays to google "fandom + character + fanfic recs" and see what comes up. Don’t bother searching for ships. We didn’t use fandom mush names much (those only became really popular when Tumblr tags couldn’t parse slashes) and pattern searching for slashes (”Tom/Mary”) often doesn’t yield effective results.
Your last option is always going to fanfiction.net and browsing the fandom there. I’m saying last option because Fanfiction.net has it ALL, the good and the bad and the ugly. Especially the ugly. Or well, that’s not quite true, because as it is, it doesn’t feature any explicit porn. Try AdultFanfiction.org for that. It also is hard to filter. Keep in mind: Standard search doesn't include erotica (Rated: M, the almost-porn) unless you include it manually. It includes all languages automatically, though, so narrow it down to yours and save yourself the headache -- some of those fandoms were really big in languages other than English. Almost all fandoms started out without (complete) character listings, so the early stuff can't be found that way. Just click on the last page of the fic list and check out whether there are any characters listed on the fics. If no, all you can do is look through those manually. Also the "Complete / In-Progress" tag didn't exist in the beginning so keep that in mind when you use search filters.
Lastly, remember that fandom was dominated by straight white women for a long time and the earlier you go, the more infuriated you’ll probably be by depictions of POC and queer folk. Keep in mind that a lot of the fic was written while the show or book series was still ongoing, so sometimes big revelations etc. will not be featured. Sometimes, new versions of canon didn’t exist yet - for example, LotR fic was solely book fandom fic before the movies.
Respect your elders when you encounter weird fandom quirks of those days. This is free fic archived for your pleasure, don't be a dick about it.

So there’s a goth meme from several years past that @spookyloop revived, so why not.
Intro:
Name? Mmy
Star sign? Capricorn
Height? 180 cm/5′ 9′’
Nationality? American
Things you post? Aesthetic things, memes, and rambling responses to friends, I think. I would probably just be an aesthetic blog if my personality didn’t ruin it, ohohohoho...
Favourite artists/bands? Goth/darkwave bands...? Ego Likeness and Hannah Fury are my favorite ones both musically and as people. I’m a club organizer type of person so the fact I like listening to All Your Favorite Club Hits On Endless Repeat after twenty-odd years helps. I just did an all-female-fronted (and largely all female musician) set recently that I was proud of.  Army of Lovers probably says the most about me as a person. Oh, and Marina and the Diamonds.
Favourite movies/TV shows? Right now, Grey’s Anatomy, Queer Eye, and the modern sitcom renaissance that’s happening because I love sitcoms. Miss Fisher’s Murder Mysteries. Twin Peaks forever. (Black Mirror for an edgyyyy answer; I wanted to like the Philip K. Dick one but the bad false eyelashes on all the lead females was so distracting I couldn’t focus, costuming matterrrrs and overly long eyelashes are going to look like overly big shoulderpads in ten years) In terms of movies, I like both hardcore surrealism (Solaris, Boxing Helena) and fun cheesy things (Zoolander, Muppet Treasure Island) and action movies as a genre (Fury Road was great!). I had a lot of film classes in undergrad, plus we have the Library of Congress’ film campus and get to watch a lot of interesting silent, so it really depends on the genre and mood.
Follower count? I think over 600 woooooo big monsters, big prizes
Simple Questions:
What is your favorite candle scent? LED, I wish they’d make some Alexa compatible ones so I could live out my Phantom of the Opera sewer decor fantasies
Do you have a favorite book? Alice Walker’s entire body of work. (The Last Unicorn for the nerd stuff, although reading a lot of Piers Anthony and Pratchett growing up probably says more about me as a person. Read a lot of Erma Bombeck, too, come to think of it. Sure, I read and enjoyed all that Russian literature as a moody teen, but I also liked ALL THE JOKES. Which is why I like Philip K. Dick, although the comedy is never preserved in film adaptation and I can whine about it like the critical snob I truly am.)
Are you a tea or coffee person? Yes, keep it coming. I am pan-beverage and constantly need to hydrate and and require at least two drinks on my person at all times.
What is your favorite brand and color of lipstick? Beauty Bakerie whatever the dark purple is, although I’m getting into the Sephora brand “lip stain” (actually longwear) wines and dark purples which I think are just numbers. Shout out to the NYX  “Transylvania” and Max Factor “Frivolous” I used to wear for their good names.
What is your favorite perfume/cologne? Pure rose absolute, which, judging by everyone’s reaction, makes me smell like a Riyoko Ikeda illustration. (I’m allergic to most commercial scents, but rose absolute does not fail me!)
Do you have a celebrity crush? Usually the perky girl character, Leisha Hailey (OG teenage crush just got better through the years), Jameela Jamil, probably a bunch of people I can’t think of right now
If you had to give up the color black, what color would you choose instead? Leopard print and hot pink
If you could change your name to a stereotypical 90s/2000s gothy name, what would it be? I grew up in a hippie area so I know far too many kids legitimately named a lot of those things. I always liked the names Violent and Prudence, though, if I was going to do a fake name.
What are your top three tips for surviving hot weather while black clad? Just wear natural fibers, you’ll be fine and your skin will thank you anyway. I’m already drinking two drinks anyway, so.
What song will always make you happy (doesn’t have to be a goth band)? Bjork - All Is Full of Love
Are you active in the arts (ex. Play an instrument, paint, write, etc)? I GUESS
If you had a teacup or mug made inscribed just for you, what would you have it say? I have a wholesale account for those black rose ones!  I like plain black cauldron mugs the best for real usage and solid black china teacups with floral interior prints.
What is your number one non-gothy hobby? Subculture has taught me that the Venn Diagrams of hobbies overlap too much for this to be a real question. GARDENING IS FULL OF GOTHS. DOLLS ARE FULL OF GOTHS. PLENTY OF GOTHS ALSO LIKE READING ABOUT RANDOM LEGAL AND TAX CODES.
Thought Provokers:
If you could be a supernatural creature, what would it be and why? Maenad, the literal party bully
What horror monster-based super power would you have? Maenads have a pretty definited skillset, but like... I feel like most horror monsters have fairly broad ill-defined ones. Seems like John Carpenter’s The Thing is kind of overpowered.
Do you feel confident or comfortable interacting with other Goths or gothy people (online or irl)? Why or why not? HELLO NEW PEOPLE, YOU LOOK VAGUELY AWKWARD SO MIGHT NEED TO BE FRIENDS WITH US; COME TO ALL MY FRIENDS’ EVENTS IF MY FRIENDS’ EVENTS ARE NOT LOCAL TO YOU I CAN HELP YOU FIND OUT WHICH CLUBS ARE CONVENTIONS ARE AND MIGHT INTEREST YOU SO ANYWAY LET ME INTRODUCE YOU TO SOME PEOPLE
Which is more important for a look: Great hair or great makeup? Probably make-up, but overall effect is always most important in truly great aesthetic~
Is there something you wish there was more of in your subculture? Accountability, although I’m proud of those of us who are always working on that. (The secret matriarchy is watching.)
Care to share an embarrassing story related to your “darkliness“? No one told me I was Far Too Tall to be wearing Lip Service miniskirts
How are you at DIY? aaaaaaaaaaaahahahahahahahahahahah; let me tell you about various epoxies
Quickly describe your ideal wedding. One where I am not expected to attend, or barring that, they have an open bar and friends with quick wits and quiet voices.
Confessional (aka True or False):
I love watching cheesy romance films. Eh -- I love cheesy COMEDIES, so there’s some overlap, but eh.
I ALWAYS remember to wash off my makeup at night VERY TRUE. I always wash my face, comb out my hair, brush my teeth, and moisturize. EVERY NIGHT. NO MATTER HOW LATE IT IS AND EXHAUSTED I AM.
I sleep with plushies. True, if I haven’t kicked them off of the bed by accident.
I wear non-black pajamas most nights. False, I don’t own anything that isn’t black. (Night-time is for novelty tee shirts and threadbare Old Navy Halloween prints, or else long flowy black night-dresses.)
I still listen to a boy band that had disbanded years ago. Sure, I listen to [insert name of some synthpop band as a joke]
I think Andrew Eldritch is overrated. False, I feel like he gets rated pretty fairly.
I don’t like vampires. False. I mean, I find other aspects of folklore more interesting academically, but I feel like vampire aesthetic is pretty crucial to gothdom in general. Also, there’s some great chronic illness metaphor in there.
I don’t like clubs. THE MOST FALSE STATEMENT EVER TO APPLY TO MY PERSON -- ALSO HELLO WOULD YOU LIKE TO COME TO AN EVENT? Y’ALL NEED REAL LIFE FRIENDS AND I CAN HELP MAKE THAT HAPPEN FOR YOU, LET ME JUST GOOGLE YOUR AREA AND CONTACT THE ELDERS TO LOOK AFTER YOU--
I’m dating a goth/darkly-inclined person. I think I talk about death and various cool diseases/medical problems too much for non-goths (taking a broad view and including lolitas and broader subcultural people). It privately irritates me when people put a burden of expecting women to content themselves with inferior aesthetics while everyone wants a “goth gf” or whatnot. (Yes, rarely it’s vice versa, but the societal burden of beautywork, even subcultural, is on women.)
I don’t enjoy graveyards. False! I love them.
Blood makes me queasy. False, high risk behaviour and bad financial decisions are pretty much the only things that make me queasy (also allergens).
I’d sooner faint than pet a spider. False, done that a bunch. I’m not afraid of any creatures that aren’t poisonous or infectious really. (Bats are amazing and beautiful but pretty likely to be rabies carriers, so goths should not pet them.  I used to preserve dead ones I found and that was a Bad Idea, but such is the folly of youth.)
I don’t like haunted houses. Eh -- I mean, it’s a gig. I don’t get off on the occult to the extent a lot of goths do, but I suppose it depends on if one means Haunted Houses (the theatrical experience) or haunted houses (the overwrought local ghost stories experience).
I still browse Hot Topic’s clearance racks. True; I hadn’t been to one in years but my friend and I just went and I totally did, although I remain Entirely Too Tall For Those Miniskirts. But I got my first Demonias from HT clearance, precious memories.
I’ve never read Dracula. False.
I think “Bela Lugosi’s Dead” is a long and boring song. False! Blasphemy!

Happens Dating Site
Tumblr media
So, the time has come to put an end to the era of your dating account with your (preferred) dating site. Hopefully you found the one you were looking for, or maybe you simply got bored with the site, or alternatively you were fed up with constantly trying to grab someone else’s attention. Either way, you are looking for a way to finish your online dating session and avoid that you’ll be charged after your cancelation. The process is a bit more complicated than simply pushing a big large exit button, but only a little bit. All you need to know is that there are two steps required to completely shut down your account. First you need to cancel your subscription to make sure you’re no longer being charged, and then cancel your account altogether.
Here are 5 tips to help you spot scammers on dating sites and help protect you from being taken advantage of. And yes, I took the screenshots from actual conversations on dating sites such as Zoosk, POF, Coffeemeetsbagle, and MeetMe to name a few. Keep an eye open for bad grammar. Misspelled words are going to happen especially if you're on. Facebook Dating makes it easier to find love through what you like — helping you start meaningful relationships through things you have in common, like interests, events and groups. It takes the work out of creating a dating profile and gives you a more authentic look at who someone is. Today, we’re launching Facebook Dating in the US.
Cancelling Your Paid Subscription vs Cancelling Your Account
One often mistakes these two, but there is a significant difference between them. To put it simply, when you cancel your subscription, you stop paying for the premium membership, and your account is transformed back to its free (but restricted) version. In this case you are typically still able to access your data, browse your existing contacts, but the perks acquired with the premium accounts are gone. This can be considered as a break from paying the monthly fee. If your dates are going along nicely, but unsure whether or not exterminate the account, this is the comfortable middle ground.
Canceling your account altogether, on the other hand, means that you completely delete your profile, and disable any progress you made so far. We only recommend this step when you are fully determined to end your history with the dating site. In most cases there is no turning back from cancelling your membership, while a canceled subscription can be reactivated anytime, while the basic (free) account time remains yours for time’s being. Even if you are happy with your current partner, it’s good to have a return path to the online dating environment you’ve become familiar with.
Let’s See it in Action!
In case you are rolling with the subscription cancellation, your job is pretty straightforward. First, head to your dating site and log in. Select the account settings (or their equivalent) and choose the subscription or payments menu. Here you’ll find the corresponding options, and among them there will be one related to the renewal of payments. When subscribing, most dating sites turn on automatic renewals, meaning that when a payment period ends, it charges you immediately for a new one. If you wish to delete your account, make sure to cancel in time, as dating sites rarely return unused months of service.
And one more thing: it’s possible to unsubscribe from your mobile dating app as well. The steps are quite similar, here’s an example of cancelling your Zoosk subscription on iPhone.
Cancelling Your Paid Zoosk Dating Subscription on iOS
Apple and Google make sure that the users of their mobile operating systems enjoy a smooth and seamless experience with using and purchasing apps and subscriptions. For this reason they make handling your app subscriptions, including those of dating apps, fairly straightforward and transparent. As a matter of fact, the system is more clear and transparent than when you have a direct subscription through the dating website itself. The example below for the cancelation of a paid Zoosk subscription on an iPhone demonstrates how this works for subscriptions to dating sites and apps through iOS:
In your iPhone’s Settings app, go to the iTunes & App Store settings.
Tap your Apple ID at the top of the screen, and then choose View Apple ID, after which you’ll have to enter your password or Touch ID to view and edit your settings.
On the Account page, you’ll see the title Subscriptions. Press the Manage button to be taken to a page that shows all your current and past subscriptions. Here it will for instance show under “Your Subscription” your canceled Zoosk subscription with your options to resubscribe underneath it. If it mentions “Expired” with a date next to it, you can rest assured that your subscription was canceled and your credit card won’t be charged again.
Step by Step Account Cancellation
Deleting your account permanently isn’t much different from suspending the subscription. You just need to look for the kill switch in a different menu. Let’s demonstrate it through three examples for three of the most popular dating websites:
As a premiere trans dating app and website, Trans4Date is a place where thoughtful daters can make a match with a transgender person for free. Contacting new friends or a potential dating partner is completely free on the dating site. Reddit’s r/t4t subreddit is essentially a personals-style online dating forum for transgender people. While it’s not as detailed as more established trans dating sites, this subreddit is designed. Dating sites with trans option.

Whether you love it or hate it, online dating is here to stay. It seems like most people use apps like Tinder and Bumble or sites like OKCupid and Match.com to find the next person they're going to date. But sometimes, online dating gets overwhelming. It can become a full time job. And there are no hard and fast rules for how to do it right. I went to the experts to find out their suggestions for what you should and shouldn't do when you're online dating.
Do stay safe
One of the most important things you can do when online dating is protect yourself. Unlike meeting a potential partner through a mutual friend, you don't know much about the people you meet online. Dr. Jaime Kulaga, life coach and PhD. told me, 'While dating online can produce long lasting relationships and happiness, sadly, the internet can be a place where people scam others and invade privacy.'
Be especially careful when meeting someone for the first time. Dr. Kulaga added, 'When you go out on a first date, make sure that friends or family know where you are going and never go to someone's house alone. Make sure that your first date is somewhere in public (movies, dinner, theme park, etc). Safety first!'
Do use photos that show the real you
While it might be tempting to use glamour shots of you that were taken ten years ago, don't do it. You want your photos to be an accurate representation of you so that when people meet you in real life, they get what they expect. Therapist Katie Krimer, MS, LMSW told me, 'If you are on dating sites, the first impression is everything! Unfortunately, these sites encourage people to judge based on physicality, more than the content of character — that's the nature of the online/app dating game.'
Tumblr media
Krimer added, 'To maximize your success in meeting the right person, have photographs that are reflective of who you are and what you look like. The first photo is your first impression — try and remember that when you're coming up with your collection. Don't put up photos that are offensive or deceiving or that don't demonstrate who it is you really are.'

Photo: The Calgary Astronomy Meetup Group. Groups your friends have joined. Christian singles groups kansas city. Christian Singles Groups Offer More Social Opportunities! Find new friends in church singles groups all across the country through our growing directory of church singles websites. Make new contacts with people that share your faith and just happen to be single like you. See the map here and select your state. Volunteers who would like to start a singles group with a Christian singles website in their city are needed. This site is designed to bring Christian singles together, meet their social needs and then direct people to a local church for further support. If you have a Christian singles group or singles ministry that you would like to share, click on Add Group. If you want to meet local singles, make new friends.
Do go beyond photos when matching and liking
Even though photos are very important, don't discard a potential match just because of their appearance. David Bennett, certified counselor, relationship expert and co-author of seven self-help books, told me, 'Studies show most people base online dating primarily on the photos. While this isn't bad, it's the main reason so many people complain that sorting through the duds online is too much work, because just because someone looks good doesn't mean they are dating or relationship material.'
When choosing a partner, looks are only one part of the equation. Bennett suggested, 'Give personality more weight, and swipe left on guys and gals you know wouldn't be good for you, even if they're hot. You'll get higher quality matches.'
Do be self-aware in the process of dating
It's easy to get caught up worrying what your dates want and care about and to neglect your own wants and needs. One of the best things you can do in this process is to be self-aware. Krimer told me, 'Check in with yourself before you get out into the dating world or whilst dating.'
Krimer suggested that you ask yourself the following questions: 'What is it that might be affecting/might affect your dating experience? Do you like/love yourself? Do you know what you want and need? Are you ready to be in a serious relationship? Do you trust your judgment? What is your attachment style? What fundamental values do you want to align with your potential mate? Are you emotionally ready? Are you a good communicator?'
Relationships are complex, and it's important to recognize them as such. Krimer told me, 'Acknowledge all of the important factors that make a relationship healthy and work — are you confident in your ability to contribute to a relationship in these ways? If you experience difficulty in any of these areas, consider the fact that they may affect the outcome of your dating experiences. For example, people who have trouble loving themselves will often choose partners who will confirm their beliefs about themselves.'
Do keep it fun
While relationships are serious business, make sure that you enjoy yourself. Krimer told me in our interview, 'It's really easy to get caught up in the stresses of meeting someone — let alone meeting the right someone.'
Instead of letting yourself get stressed out, she suggested, 'Make a conscious choice to think of ways to find enjoyment in meeting new people and putting yourself out there — focus on the process instead of the outcome. If you put too much pressure on the expectation of meeting someone, you're much more likely to feel disappointed or discouraged if it's not what you expect it to be.'
Do keep your bigger goals in mind
I've seen many friends let their longterm goals go out the window when they meet someone they really like, but who may not be a great long term match. Krimer suggested that you keep your goals front and center. She said, 'Do know your goals for what you're looking for — what are your intimacy and relationship needs? Are the people you're meeting matching those needs? Are you getting into relationships with people with conflicting relationship goals (i.e. you want a long term relationship, but your current partner just sees it as a casual fling)? Being honest with yourself and others about what it is you want in a relationship can help prevent unnecessary stress or uncertainty later on.'
Choose to spend your time on online platforms where you are more likely to meet other people with similar goals. Dr. Kulaga told me, 'There are online dating sites for everyone's desires. Whether you are looking for a long-lasting relationship or just want to 'play the field' for a while, online dating has you covered. However, you want to keep your bigger goals in mind when entering some of these dating sites.'
She added, 'If your desire is to find someone looking for a long term relationship, you wouldn't want to sign up for a dating site that is known for short term flings. You are doing yourself a disservice when you waste time and energy on dealing with things that don't directly impact your bigger goal.'
Do use a variety of apps
Speaking of choosing apps carefully when online dating, it's a good idea not to limit yourself to just one. Bennett told me, 'Different apps have different strengths and weaknesses. It may take some time to find which app is right for you. Some apps cater more toward a younger demographic, while others skew older. Some focus more on relationships, while others seem geared toward flings and dating around.'
While most of the apps and sites have particular reputations, don't let that keep you from trying them out. Bennett added, 'Your own experience of these apps may defy the typical experience. Try a variety of apps for a few months and then go from there.'
Don't be lazy when using online platforms
It can be tedious to fully fill out your profile when you're on a dating site, but buckle down and do it anyway. You'll save a lot of time you would have spent going out with the wrong people. Dr. Kulaga told me, 'If you are dating online and have an opportunity to fill out a profile or inventory about who you are, and what you like/dislike, do it!' She explained that this is the best way to find someone who is a good fit for your wants, desires, and personality. You are representing yourself in your profile, and that's the first impression potential matches are going to see. She said: 'Invest the time and effort into attracting the right person.'
When you reach out to a potential match, take the time to write something thoughtful. Bennett told me in our interview, 'Don't use a boring or standard opening message. Online dating is very competitive, and some people have anywhere from hundreds to even thousands of likes, matches, and messages to sort through. A hey or WYD isn't going to cause you to stand out.'
Don't take it personally if someone isn't interested
When I was online dating, the first date usually led to disappointment, and it was hard not to get discouraged and feel down about myself. But in most cases, it's not worth it to take rejection personally. Dr. Kulaga told me, 'If someone doesn't respond to a request you sent them or someone doesn't follow up after a first date, move on.'
Not only does it feel bad to internalize every rejection, it can also keep you from meeting someone you click with. Dr. Kulaga continued, 'If you sulk, ruminate and dwell on the fact that someone didn't come through on a follow up, this will hold you back from meeting the real Mr. or Ms. Right.' She explained that ruminating can lower your confidence, preventing you from putting yourself back out there and meeting someone who is an even better match.
Celebrate your mismatches instead of getting upset about them. In Dr. Kulaga's words, 'Be happy the person didn't come through and you didn't waste any more of your precious time. Move on.' Instead of dwelling on rejections, spend your time remembering what's great about you. Krimer told me, 'Going into the dating world knowing that you have a lot to offer can really buffer some of the potential effects of dates not working out and can help you not to personalize dating experiences that may be perceived as rejection.'
Don't keep dating someone if they're not a good fit
It can be tempting to keep talking to someone, even if a little voice at the back of your mind is telling you they're not right for you. Dr. Kulaga told me it's better to move on when that happens. She said, 'If you are emailing someone back and forth and recognize this person is not a good fit for you, or you go on a date that just wasn't your cup of tea, let the person know. Be upfront and don't lead people on. Not only does this waste their time, it is wasting yours.'
On the same note, it's important that you be honest about what you're looking for so that you don't end up dating someone who is wrong for you. Krimer told me, 'Be upfront about what you're looking for when meeting people. In this day and age, the word clingy gets thrown around a lot — someone who is secure and emotionally mature will be open to hearing about your readiness for a relationship, and you should feel safe in expressing at least a general sense of what you want from a dating experience.'
https://gfriendlighting460.tumblr.com/post/657825314304589824/best-dating-websites-for-19-year-olds. When you trust your intuition and you're clear about what you're looking for, you'll spend more time dating people who are a better fit for you, raising your chances of finding someone you can see yourself with long-term.
Tumblr media
Don't jump to the finish line
While you want to be honest about what you're looking for in a partner, don't let your desire to get married and have kids get in the way when you first start dating someone. Dr. Kulaga told me, 'If your ultimate goal is to get married and you go on a first and second date with someone dreamy, don't blurt out the marriage countdown! You will scare this perfect match away!'
Instead, she suggested, 'Enjoy the journey and take your time in a relationship. You might be dying to show off an engagement ring on social media, or you might feel like you are last on your list of friends to marry, but don't jump to that finish line just yet. Enjoy the process, get to know the person and create memories before you drag them into your pre-written agenda.'
Don't play games
You're probably well-aware of the spoken and unspoken dating 'rules,' but when it comes to finding a potential partner, it's better to just drop the game-playing. Krimer told me, 'If you went on a date and had a terrific time, don't buy into the game-playing and rules. Let that person know soon after your first date that you really enjoyed your time!'
You may think this will make you seem too eager, but it will actually help you see if they're a good match more quickly. Krimer continued, 'They'll either reciprocate if they felt the same way, or you will know by their response or behaviour if they aren't interested in pursuing anything further. There's no need to wait days before you text or call — if you like someone, let them know it!'
Don't let them get away with poor communication
I can't count the number of times my friends have complained that the men they meet online don't call or text them enough. It seems like poor communication has become standard in online dating. But it doesn't have to be. If they want to communicate with you, they will. And if they don't, cut them loose.
Krimer told me, 'Don't buy the I'm really busy with work excuse to justify lack of communication — I've had patients who are in relationships with doctors who work 17 hour days and still manage to text their partners in breaks between OR time. We're all busy people — but we know that we make time when we want to make time.'
Is Dateyou A Real Dating Site
When someone you're dating doesn't respond to your texts, it hurts. But don't just brush it off. Krimer told me, 'Don't fall into the he's/she's just a bad texter trap to continuously excuse poor communication. Even if texting isn't someone's main mode of communicating, if they are ready and interested in pursuing a relationship, it will be reflected in their behaviour. They will absolutely find a way to check in, keep you in the loop, and make themselves available to talk.'
Don't rush the dating process
Unfortunately, the dating process can take awhile. Even getting on that first date can feel difficult. Bennett told me, 'Don't expect to get a date right away. Statistics show that around one third of online dating users never go on a date. The number was as high as seventy percent without a date in one study focused on Tinder. These apps aren't magic, and going from matching and messaging to an actual date is pretty much just as hard online as it is in the offline world.'

Instead of getting anxious to 'meet the one' already, Krimer suggested, 'Engage in the dating experience with a different mindset. Don't look at it as a success or failure, but rather as an adventure you're taking on.' She added, 'Remind yourself of your great qualities and that dating can feel exhausting and it can take a lot of time to meet someone with whom you feel really connected.'

Can you help me with one kind of stupid thing? How can I start rping on tumblr? Like... How do i plot and interact?
we all had to start somewhere, so this is a more than valid question ! first off, here and here are two pretty extensive guides to tumblr rping, but i’ll try to cut everything short under the read-more and have it be more up to date. also if you have any more questions or want more details on a certain topic, don’t be afraid to ask again !
Tumblr media
i. types of rps.
since you found this blog i hope it’s safe to assume you somewhat know your way around the rpc ? but just in case, the following tags are most popular for different type of rps: appless rp, bio rp, skeleton rp, semi appless rp, twitter rp and lsrp. there are also a good amount of subcategories for rps, for example apartment rp, mumu rp ( multi-muse ), new rp, pairs rp, etc. it all kind of depends what you’re looking for but for starters i’d recommend appless rps as they’re the easiest to step foot in.
all of the above are group roleplays with set rules, but if you’re not into that, there’s also indie rping. the main tag is indie rp with different subcategories as well. the indie com is more laid-back as you basically write down your own rules ( always make sure to read other ppl’s rules as well ) and you can take as much time for your replies as you’d like opposed to groups where the time limit is 2 - 5 days nowadays. though, i’d only rec the indie com for people over 18 as it has many muns who like to post smut starters without properly tagging them but using nsfw gifs. also there are quite a few nasty ppl out there who like to write inc*st or non-consenting threads which just .. yikes Blocked.
ii. joining a rp.
as you’re browsing the tags, you’ll hopefully find a rp you like and would like to join. please, please make sure to read the plot, rules and if applicable faq pages completely and if it’s a new rp also scrolling through the blog itself just to avoid possibly joining a rp that allows something ( or someone ) you’d rather not be affiliated with. in case everything’s fine and you went through all the pages, it’s best to have the taken / characters page open along with the application format just to avoid using a faceclaim ( the celeb you’d like your character to look like ), name or even label that’s already in use.
most admins are very adamant about the app format not being changed ( ex. all lowercase or certain words in uppercase, etc ) so please listen to them otherwise they’ll ask you to resend the app or they’ll have to change it on the taken page. it’s always good for an admin to see that their members actually care about what they created.
most apps ask for a faceclaim, name, age, gender, pronouns, label ( + tag ), occupation, positive and negative traits ( + tag ) and sometimes a fun fact, their zodiac sign, what they googled last, a movie / song / show they love, etc. basically just send in your app as soon as it’s finished ! below you’ll also find an old app of mine for an appless rp.
Tumblr media
iii. setting up an account.
hopefully you know how to set up an account on tumblr, but if not, the first guide covers it  well. as soon as your account is set up, install new xkit ( without it you basically won’t be able to write replies ). select xkit on your dashboard and install the following extensions ( click ‘ get extensions ‘ ): anti-capitalism, drafts+, editable reblogs ( the most important ! ), go-to-dash, no recommended, old sidebar, old stats, one-click reply, outbox, timestamps, tweaks, xinbox. as for tweaks, go back to ‘ my xkit ‘, find ‘ tweaks ‘ and try to see what you like best.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
from here on i recommend following the steps from the first guide, starting at ‘ THE ACCOUNT: AESTHETICS ‘ as i basically do the same. here’s also my theme tag along with a general one.
iv. writing your intro.
now before you’re able to plot with others, you’ll have to write an intro. it’s essentially just to introduce yourself with a small blurb and then elaborating on your muse ( character ). below you can find an example in the form of an old blog of mine, it was for a skeleton rp, but basically it’s the same for appless rps ( except that i never write a bio or create a headcanon page for those ). if you follow the link to the intro, you’ll see a load of text.
Tumblr media
the first thing i always do for my intro is add a gif icon ( usually 100x100 pixel or below and you can find them by typing in https://www.tumblr.com/tagged/danielle-campbell-gif-icons for example ), write something small about me / the rp and then add the app format under a read more. everything underneath is the muse’s backstory, personality and wanted plots. ( also as a tip it’s always good to trigger warn your writing. )
Tumblr media
v. plotting.
this is often dreaded due to bad past experiences or anxiety but honestly.. keep calm during this. plotting is actually one of my favorite things and i tend to ramble a Lot while talking to strangers so as long as you’re passionate about your muse it’ll work out. and if someone’s not interested in plotting with your muse someone else definitely will. as a true flop i didn’t include any wanted plots in my intro, but i’m also very spontaneous regarding connections aka i’ll read their intro and think of a plot that could work and let them add onto it bc only the mun knows their muse best. if you need any connections idea though, here and here are a few.
as for approaching someone, most of the time i’m looking for something in their intro i could use to bond over outside rping, like with my intro it could be a shared interest for dc and / or marvel. or honestly just compliment them on their muse bc i love doing so when you can really feel they put a lot of effort into creating them. alternatively just quote a vine in all caps.
one thing to avoid doing is sound soo very monotone when you can clearly see that they’re excited to plot and you just don’t seem to care. sharing excitement is a good thing while plotting and the rpc in general !
vi. replying.
plugging in this guide one last time bc the last part covers all of it !
vii. extras.
make sure you’re only following blogs from the main rp’s blogroll to avoid confusion.
if you want to leave a rp, please message the main. a simple ‘ hey ! i’m afraid this rp isn’t for me ‘ or ‘ i won’t have time to dedicate to this rp ‘ will do. it’s always better than to just delete or switch to another rp.
it’s nice to check the starter tag from time to time to make sure new members feel welcome ( most if not all rps have their own starter tag which can be found on their blog ).
in case you join a rp that has meme days, don’t be afraid to ask the admins for help even if it’s just to find some to reblog ( museinspo has a tag for them as well along with other musings blogs ). in addition it’s polite to send everyone a meme to answer / reply to.
museinspo’s navigation might also help clear up a few things, plus it’s a great blog for character creation and development.
hopefully this was beginner’s friendly ?? and happy rping !

TikTok and 53 other iOS apps still snoop your sensitive clipboard data
Tumblr media
In March, researchers uncovered a troubling privacy grab by more than four dozen iOS apps including TikTok, the Chinese-owned social media and video-sharing phenomenon that has taken the Internet by storm. Despite TikTok vowing to curb the practice, it continues to access some of Apple users’ most sensitive data, which can include passwords, cryptocurrency wallet addresses, account-reset links, and personal messages. Another 53 apps identified in March haven’t stopped either.
The privacy invasion is the result of the apps repeatedly reading any text that happens to reside in clipboards, which computers and other devices use to store data that has been cut or copied from things like password managers and email programs. With no clear reason for doing so, researchers Talal Haj Bakry and Tommy Mysk found, the apps deliberately called an iOS programming interface that retrieves text from users’ clipboards.
Universal snooping
In many cases, the covert reading isn’t limited to data stored on the local device. In the event the iPhone or iPad uses the same Apple ID as other Apple devices and are within roughly 10 feet of each other, all of them share a universal clipboard, meaning contents can be copied from the app of one device and pasted into an app running on a separate device.
That leaves open the possibility that an app on an iPhone will read sensitive data on the clipboards of other connected devices. This could include bitcoin addresses, passwords, or email messages that are temporarily stored on the clipboard of a nearby Mac or iPad. Despite running on a separate device, the iOS apps can easily read the sensitive data stored on the other machines.
“It’s very, very dangerous,” Mysk said in an interview on Friday, referring to the apps’ indiscriminate reading of clipboard data. “These apps are reading clipboards, and there’s no reason to do this. An app that doest have a text field to enter text has no reason to read clipboard text.”
The video below demonstrates universal clipboard reading:
youtube
KlipboardSpy: How malicious apps on iPhone and iPad abuse the Universal Clipboard on your Mac.
Back in the news
While Haj Bakry and Mysk published their research in March, the invasive apps made headlines again this week with the developer beta release of iOS 14. A novel feature Apple added provides a banner warning every time an app reads clipboard contents. As large numbers of people began testing the beta release, they quickly came to appreciate just how many apps engage in the practice and just how often they do it.
This YouTube video, which has racked up more than 87,000 views since it was posted on Tuesday, shows a small sample of the apps triggering the new warning

iOS14 Catches Apps Spying on Your Clipboard
TikTok in the spotlight
Recent headlines have focused particular attention on TikTok, in large part because of its massive base of active users (reported to be 800 million, with an estimated 104 million iOS installs in the first half of 2018 alone, making it the most downloaded app for that period).
TikTok’s continued snooping has gotten extra scrutiny for other reasons. When called out in March, the video-sharing provider told UK publication The Telegraph it would end the practice in the coming weeks. Mysk said that the app never stopped the monitoring. What’s more, a Wednesday Twitter thread revealed that the clipboard reading occurred each time a user entered a punctuation mark or tapped the space bar while composing a comment. That means the clipboard reading can happen every second or so, a much more aggressive pace than documented in the March research, which found monitoring happened when the app was opened or reopened.
To reproduce: 1. Have something on your clipboard. Eg copy some text from Notes or a website 2. Open TikTok and start typing in any text field 3. You learn from iOS 14 beta each time an app “pastes” – but in this instance I didn’t request it, and none of that text appears in UI
— Jeremy Burge (@jeremyburge) June 24, 2020
In a statement, TikTok representatives wrote:
Following the beta release of iOS14 on June 22, users saw notifications while using a number of popular apps. For TikTok, this was triggered by a feature designed to identify repetitive, spammy behavior. We have already submitted an updated version of the app to the App Store removing the anti-spam feature to eliminate any potential confusion.
TikTok is committed to protecting users’ privacy and being transparent about how our app works. We look forward to welcoming outside experts to our Transparency Center later this year.
On background, a spokesperson said that TikTok for Android never implemented the anti-spam feature.
I sent follow-up questions asking (1) if the TikTok version for Android monitored clipboards for any other reason, (2) if any clipboard text was uploaded from the device, and (3) why TikTok didn’t remove the monitoring as promised in March. The spokesperson has yet to respond. This post will be updated if a reply comes later.
Not just TikTok
In all, the researchers found the following iOS apps were reading users’ clipboard data every time the app was opened with no clear reason for doing so:

Shortly after the report was published, 10% Happier: Meditation and Hotel Tonight promised to stop the behavior and quickly followed through. TikTik also promised to stop but has never done so, Mysk said. None of the other apps has stopped either, he said.
Clipboard reading done right
In some cases, clipboard reading can make apps much more useful. The UPS iPhone app, for instance, pulls text from the clipboard and in the event the text matches the characteristics of a tracking number, the app prompts the user to track the corresponding package. Google Chrome also pulls text and, in the event it’s a URL, will prompt the user to browse to it. The Pixelmator photo editor reads data only if it’s an image. If it is, Pixelmator will prompt the user to open it for editing. In all three cases, the data reading has a clear use case and is transparent.
TikTok and the other offending apps, by contrast, access the clipboard for no clear reason and with no indication they are doing so. For many apps, it’s hard to see any legitimate performance or usability reason for the access. Mysk said that Apple plans to credit his and Haj Bakry’s research as a catalyst for the new clipboard notification put into iOS 14.
The clipboard reading Haj Bakry and Mysk reported raises concerns that likely extend to those using Android and possibly other operating systems. Mysk said that clipboard reading in Android apps is “even worse” than iOS because the OS APIs are so much more lenient. Until version 10, for instance, Android allowed apps running in the background to read the clipboard. iOS apps, by contrast, can read or query clipboards only when active (that is, running in the foreground).
Mysk said that Apple’s notification feature is a good start but, ultimately, Apple and Google should do more. One possibility is to make clipboard access a standard permission, just as access to a mic or camera is now. Another possibility is to require app developers to disclose precisely what clipboard data is accessed and what the app does with it.
For now, users should remain aware that any data stored in the clipboard—despite it being inconspicuous to the naked eye—can be regularly accessed by apps that in many cases aren’t even installed locally on the device. When in doubt, flush the clipboard data by copying a character, word, or other piece of innocuous data.
