DEAR EDUCATIONALLY NEGLECTED HOMESCHOOLERS
I’ve gathered some resources and tips and tricks on self-educating after educational neglect. This is only what I did and what I know helped me. I’m about to graduate college with honors after having no education past the age of 9. I wouldn’t be here without the following. Everything is free, and at/well above the standard for education in the US.
The holy grail: Khan Academy. Nearly every course you could take is available here, in order and by grade level. Their open-source free courses rival some of the college classes I’ve taken. This is your most solid resource.
For inattentive types: Crash Course offers a variety of courses that are snappy, entertaining, and extremely rewarding. They work for my ADHD brain. They also have college prep advice, which is essential if you’re looking to go to higher education with no classroom experience.
To catch up on your reading: There are certain books that you may have read had you gone to school that you’ve missed out on. This list is the most well-rounded and can fill you in on both children’s books and classic novels that are essential or at least extremely helpful to be familiar with. You can find a majority of these easily at a local library (and some for free in PDF form online low key). There are a few higher level classics in here that I’d highly recommend. If it doesn’t work for you, I’d always recommend asking your local librarian.
*BE AWARE* The book list I recommend suggests you read Harry Potter books, and given their transphobic author you may or may not want to read them. If you choose to, I’d highly recommend buying the books secondhand or borrowing from a library to avoid financially supporting a living author with dangerous and damaging views.
TEST, TEST, TEST: Again, Khan Academy is your go-to for this. I don’t personally like standardized testing, but going through SAT and ACT courses was the best way I found to really reveal my gaps so that I could supplement.
Finally: As much as you can, enjoy the process. Education can be thrilling and teach you so much about yourself, and help shape your view of the world. It can get frustrating, but I’d like to encourage you that everyone can learn. No pace is the perfect pace, and your learning style is the right learning style for you. In teaching yourself, be patient, be kind, and indulge in the subjects you really enjoy without neglecting others. You are your teacher. Give yourself what others chose not to.

Looking back, Lilia vividly remembers the day you arrived in Twisted Wonderland. Amidst the grand spectacle of the entrance ceremony, particularly with Grim's frantic attempts to avoid being captured, there was something about you that captured his attention. Maybe it was the distinct curiosity shining in your eyes, navigating through an entirely foreign world with a blend of composure and uncertainty. Whatever it was, he found himself wanting to reach out and make you feel welcome.
He started looking out for you without even realizing it. He began with small gestures, like offering help with your studies when he found you hunched over a book in the library or popping down from the ceiling to help you find a classroom. He enjoyed seeing your smile brighten whenever you grasped a new concept or conquered a challenge. It felt good to be there for you, to share his experiences and insights.
As time went on, your interactions blossomed into a regular occurrence. Hours seemed to melt away as you engaged in conversations about anything and everything, exchanging stories of your homeland and experiences while he eagerly recounted his adventures from various countries. Among the students, you were the only one to actively praise his cooking, willingly joining him in the kitchen. These shared moments became cherished moments for Lilia, feeling a connection forming between you that he couldn't quite explain.
But it wasn't until much later that he realized the true depth of his feelings. They had silently amassed over time, creeping up on him when he least expected it. Suddenly, he found myself thinking about you all the time, wondering how you were and yearning to see your smile once more.
Just as his thoughts drifted to you, a familiar laughter dances through the air, drawing his attention. Turning towards its source, he finds himself captivated by the scene unfolding before him. The sun bathes the school courtyard in a radiant golden hue, casting a warm, inviting glow upon everything it touches. There you are, seated on the grass with legs crossed, skillfully weaving delicate tulip flowers into a crown.
Curiosity piqued, he approaches quietly, not wanting to interrupt your moment of concentration. As he draws nearer, you glance up, your eyes shimmering with delight and a mischievous grin playing upon your lips.
"Lilia!" you exclaim, a hint of surprise colouring your tone. "What perfect timing! I've made something for you."
With a graceful flourish, you hold up the tulip flower crown, presenting it as if it were a priceless gem. Each vibrant petal seems to shimmer and sway in the sunlight, casting a spell of enchantment over the surroundings. The delicate blooms, ranging in hues from deep crimson to soft pastel pink, are meticulously arranged in a circular formation, creating a majestic crown fit for royalty.
"You made this for me?" he asks, a wry grin on his face. He can't help but think it suits you far better.
"Of course!" You reply, your grin widening. "Don’t you think it’ll enhance your cuteness?"
A huff of laughter escapes him as you delicately place the crown upon his head, adjusting it until it sits just right. He can't help but feel a rush of affection towards you, grateful for your kindness and the undeniable warmth you bring into his life.
As you step back to admire your handiwork, your gaze meets his, and time seems to stand still. He finds himself entranced by the sparkle in your eyes, the way your smile reaches all the way to your soul.
It is then, with the sun kissing your skin and the scent of tulips filling the air, that he realises just how deeply he cares for you. In your laughter, in your playful gestures, he found a love he hadn't known existed, a love that filled him with a warmth unlike anything he'd ever felt before. And as he looks into your eyes, his own heart overflowing with emotion, he knows that he has fallen completely, utterly in love.
"Rather than me," he begins, lifting the flower crown from his head and gently placing it upon yours. "I believe it enhances your cuteness far more effectively."
He watches with rapt attention as a delicate flush blossoms across your cheeks, like the soft petals of a rose responding to the morning sun. The warmth of embarrassment paints your features with a gentle hue, adding a touch of ethereal beauty to your already captivating presence. In that moment, your eyes widen slightly, reflecting a mixture of surprise and affection, like sparkling jewels illuminated by a ray of sunlight.
Truly, the deepest of loves.

Pretty Thoughts {Sebastian Sallow x GN!Reader}
Tumblr media
Introduction: Sebastian is down bad for you, my dear reader. But a lot of overthinking on your part makes you blind to it. So, his only option is to keep chasing after you. Takes place after MC meets Anne and before Seb’s final mission. Your Hogwarts house is up to you.
Word Count: ~2700
Warnings: Kissing, Teen Angst
Author’s Note: This is an (un)official Part 2 to Pining in Potions Class. I like writing one shots that could go together if you’d like, but you definitely don’t need to read any other stories to know what’s going on. I love the idea of a clingy Sebastian. Teens finding their first love can feel amazing but they also don’t know how to act. All they know is they want to be with that person at all times.
Songs (if interested):
Kill the Director - The Wombats
Whatever You Like - Single Version - Anya Marina Cover
Wallpaper - Matt Watson
How Long - TALK
You had found Sebastian around you a lot more lately, not that you minded. You enjoyed it, actually. But at the same time, it kept you on edge. Though you hadn’t known the Slytherin for long, this behavior seemed very out of the ordinary for him. When you were first getting to know him, he would be brief and to the point with you, then he was off. He was always prioritizing practicing new spells in the undercroft or going over every book he could get his hands on from the restricted section.
At first, you thought maybe he had a falling out with Ominis, but then you saw them walking into the dining hall seemingly fine with each other. And then, you made yourself paranoid it had something to do with Anne’s health. But to your relief, he updated you on something funny she wrote in her latest letter to him.
Your early conversations mainly consisted of discussing the things he had found in Salazar Slytherin’s spell book, but that was only a small portion of the time these days. More often than not, the two of you weren’t saying anything at all. He was just there with you. Whether it be studying, laying in the grass and basking in the sun, or sitting with you at breakfast going over some last minute homework.
He was getting dangerously close to you lately too. He might not have thought anything of it. But you on the other hand? Your mind went reeling. Every time you were together, he would do something simple that made your stomach dance with butterflies. He’d brush your fingers with his, lay his head on your lap while you laid in the grass, and touch his shoulder against yours whenever you sat together in the dining hall.
It was your final class of the day, and you were barely paying attention, your mind thinking back on those light touches you and Sebastian shared. Looking up from your notes to sneak a glance at him, you found he was already staring back at you. The both of you quickly averted your eyes.
With Professor Hecat’s dismissal, all the students made their way out of the classroom. Sebastian caught up to your side.
“Have to cancel our library session. I need to meet with Ominis. Can I still try to see you later?” He looked at you with hopeful eyes, as if he needed you to confirm he could, in fact, see you later.
“O-Of course, Sebastian. I’ll probably be in the library for the rest of the night if you need me.”
He gave you a small smile and nod of his head. He took a few steps backwards to leave, keeping his eyes on you a moment longer, then he turned and went on his way.
Rubbing at your eyes, you were relieved to be nearly done with all of your homework. It was the weekend now, you didn’t need to worry about finishing it all that night, but Sebastian hadn’t come to see you yet. So you stayed a bit longer than anticipated. It was getting late and everyone was gone except for you and Madam Scribner at her desk at the library entrance.
You’d feel bad if Sebastian showed up and you weren’t there to at least tell him you were done and heading to bed. But if you were too tired, you were too tired. Sebastian wouldn’t be crushed if he turned up and you were gone... right?
You shook the thought from your head and rubbed at your blushing cheeks with the back of your hand. Sebastian doesn’t feel that way about you, he needs to focus on helping his sister. If he wants anything more, he’ll tell you. But then you began thinking about all his small touches again, pulling yourself back into the fantasy.
Shaking the thoughts from your head, you knew you needed a distraction. You decided to get up from your table and explore the shelves for another book. Nothing education related, there had to be something in this humungous library that was just meant for enjoyment. Some fictional story to take your mind off of everything.
Aha! You believed you found just the book. You couldn’t quite tell from the cover, but the title was “My Beloved”. That sounded like a romance novel, right? Plucking the book from the shelf and running your hands across its bindings, you made your way back to your table. Not wanting to sit thanks to the lingering nerves, you opened up the book to a random page and read it over to see if your prediction on the content was correct.
You found it was a romance that took place in a small village. Before you knew it, you were engrossed in the story, picturing yourself and Sebastian as the main characters who were in love. You slowly placed both of your hands on the table, leaning on them as you kept reading, forgetting you could sit back down. It’d really come to this, you were so head over heels for him you were picturing the two of you in a romance novel. A dreamy sigh escaped your lips.
“What are you reading?” Sebastian asked, coming up to your side. Your attention snapped to him. He chuckled at your startled expression and very red complexion. “Uh oh, catch you reading something interesting, did I?”
"Um...”, You started, but couldn’t think of anything to say. Your mind was still recovering from the romantic scenarios you were just picturing the two of you in.
Shaking your head and avoiding his gaze, Sebastian took this to mean you were upset with him. His heart sank. “I’m sorry it took me so long. Ominis and I decided to try a new spell and it took us forever to figure out. I was so focused on getting it right, I lost track of time. You’re not leaving soon, are you?”
You gave a small wave of your hand, dismissing his apology. “It’s alright, Sebastian. I got caught up here and... well, lost track of time myself.” You slid the book away from him, slowly closing it, hoping you didn’t look suspicious.
But, of course, Sebastian thought you looked suspicious. He raised a questioning brow at you and glanced at the book.
“What?” You asked innocently, turning away from him and looking down at the romance novel, firing off ideas in your head of how you’d put it away without him figuring out what it was.
“That book you got there. Why are you acting so secretive? Did I catch you reading something interesting after all?” Sebastian got closer, leaning one hand on the table next to the book and peering at it over your shoulder. His chest pressing up against your back. There he went again, giving you the slightest touch and driving you mad. The scent of his cologne filled your nostrils, intoxicating you. In that moment, you were tempted to yank him close and bury your face in his neck.
He turned his head to look at you for an answer, but you couldn’t get yourself to look back. He was so close, his lips were so close. You could make out his freckles out of the corner of your eye, feel his breath against your skin. Did he know what kind of effect he had on you? Was he teasing you? Your lips were moving to speak but no words would come out.
He gave you a playful nudge with his shoulder, prodding you to answer him. “Come on, it can’t be that bad, can it?”
And it wasn’t that bad, at most he would tease you for reading a romance novel. What was holding you back at this point was how nervous Sebastian was making you. As if you weren’t tense enough, he took it a step further and placed both of his hands on either side of you on the table, trapping you in. He rested his chin on your shoulder, taking another peek at the book.
“I never realized how much taller I am than you.” He chuckled, chest humming against your back. Keeping you in place, his callused hands grabbed yours to remove them from covering the title of the book. He held your hands in his while he read it over, then he gave a quiet, amused hum.
You turned in his arms and he lifted his head off your shoulder to meet your gaze. He smiled at you, but it faded when he saw your face.
“What’s wrong?”
Finally facing him, even with how close he was, your desire took over your reason. And, just for a moment, you allowed yourself to be selfish. “You make me nervous, Sebastian.” You told him in a low tone.
He didn’t think you looked nervous at all. Something was written on your features but he certainly wouldn’t call it ‘nervous’. Your eyes were dark and you licked at your lips. It was brief but it caught his eye, seeing a quick glimpse of your tongue made his head race with all sorts of thoughts.
You too glanced at his lips, not caring if it was obvious what was on your mind.
Seeing your eyes shamelessly stare at his mouth, he froze. He was afraid if he made one wrong move, you’d run. He had wanted to kiss you for a while now, and right then it looked like you wanted to kiss him too.
Then you did, and his heart went rapid. He had been convinced you could feel it when your hands moved up along his chest until one snaked around his shoulders and the other rested on his neck. His hands left their place on the table to grab your waist, pulling you closer, holding you in place. His warmth enveloped you.
You pulled away to kiss at Sebastian’s neck and his knees went weak. You kissed around the area you pictured he sprayed his cologne. You took an inhale and breathed out, “I always loved this scent on you.” You kissed at the area one more time, sending a pleasant tickling sensation up the back of his neck. His fingers dug deeper into your waist.
You go back to kissing his lips, which were softer than you had imagined. The way he earnestly moved his mouth against yours ignited sparks in your chest. You had wanted him so badly, and you finally had him there in your arms, on the tip of your tongue, for the taking. One of your hands moved to his hair and you reveled in the feeling of his locks between your fingers.
But the abrupt sound of heels walking along a marble floor slowed your kiss to a halt. Madam Scribner. The two of you were so swept up in the moment you completely forgot other people existed (faculty that Sebastian does not have a good reputation with included).
The two of you left each other’s embrace just as Scribner came into view. Sebastian, hair slightly askew, gave a cough and acted like he was looking over some important papers which were actually your homework pages for a class he didn’t have. All the while, you had managed to open up the romance novel, nodding your head as if you were learning some new herbology methods.
Madam Scribner eyed the two of you while she put away a few books. “Getting late, best finish up before curfew.” And then she was gone, returning to her desk.
You and Sebastian looked at each other, cheeks flushed, and grinning from ear to ear. You bit at your lip and he rubbed the back of his neck. Clearing your throat, you started gathering up your homework and books.
Sebastian watched with an ache to pull you back in and keep kissing you senseless.
“I-I’m sorry I did that. That was selfish of me.” You stammered, his brows furrowed in confusion.
“What do you mean?” He asked, returning to your side, thinking through anything he could have done to make you feel this way. You had helped him through so much, if anything he thought he was the selfish one. You came in as a new fifth year with seemingly endless catching up to do and you had to learn how to wield ancient magic on top of that. Yet, he was unabashed in asking for your help countless times, anything to steal you away for himself.
“Well I-I know how busy you are with your research for Anne and I’d hate to be the one who slowed you down just because I-.” You went quiet, unable to finish the sentence, fingers fumbling to organize the papers in your hands.
“Just because you... what?” He urged on.
“Merlin, Sebastian. Do I need to spell it out for you?” You exhaled, leaving to go put away the books you borrowed, him following close in pursuit.
“Please do.”
“As I said,” You sighed. “You make me... nervous.”
“In a good way or bad way?”
Putting the last of the books away, you turned to face him again. “Good, I suppose.” You confessed, barely above a whisper, unable to meet his gaze.
He tried to bite back the giddy smile forming on his lips. “I make you nervous in a good way.” He repeated back, almost sounding proud.
You nodded your head, looking down at your twiddling thumbs, listening out if he would say how he felt about you.
Sebastian glanced over to Madam Scribner, who made it not so subtle she was keeping an eye on the two of you. “We should start heading to our rooms now, I suppose. Curfew and all.”
Your heart dropped, he didn’t say a thing about reciprocating your feelings. Not even a simple “I feel the same.” He must have only been swept up in the moment, enjoying the attention. Perhaps teenage hormones could make kissing enticing no matter who you were with? Embarrassment filled your every limb and you wanted to run and hide. You gathered your things to go.
“Um, yes. You’re right. We should be going.”
“I’ll walk you.”
“No, that’s alright. At this point, I’m asleep on my feet and you must be exhausted too. I’ll just floo and go straight to bed.”
Your rejection took him aback. “Oh. Well, alright then. I’ll see you at breakfast.”
“Maybe. I’ve got some assignments outside of the castle, might not have time.”
“Well, let me come along to help.” He offered eagerly.
“Don’t worry yourself, just send me an owl if something comes up for Anne. Sleep well, Sebastian.”
Before he could say anything more, you sped off to the library floo, and then you were gone. He was baffled at your sudden shift, everything was going so well. The two of you kissed and you had confirmed you felt the same as he did. He couldn’t believe he could make someone like you nervous. Hearing you say how you felt about him made him so happy he could burst. But then you were rushing to leave, rejecting his offer to help again. He didn’t think he said anything wrong, he barely said anything at all. Yet off you went, like you couldn’t get away fast enough.
He groaned in frustration as he made his way to his room. He had managed to kiss you and he still felt as distant as ever from you. He had never had the courage to outright tell you how he felt, so he would constantly toe the line with his touches. The brushing fingers, laying his head on your lap, sitting as close as he could to you in the dining hall, and now a kiss, all of which you seemed to welcome.
Sebastian laid in bed, staring up at the ceiling, going back and forth in his head what your actions tonight meant. You had waited in the library for him all that time, you initiated the kiss, said you liked - no - loved his cologne, told him he made you nervous in a good way, and then you wanted nothing more to do with him. He replayed the whole night and he couldn’t pin down where he went wrong.
He’d have to find you first thing in the morning, before you could leave.

Here's a little post ranting about the Floridian education system and how it fucked over public school librarians this year, from the adult child of one who spent his whole summer helping his poor mom try and keep up with Desantis's ridiculous requests.
Every school year, the librarian always gets a couple weeks with a "closed" library to take inventory of the school's stock at the end. Normal stuff, y'know, if a bit tedious and boring. Scan every. Single. Thing. See what you have and figure out who last checked out what you should have, that sort of thing.
Well, Ron Desantis, in his genius, decided that concept had to be applied to all the books in the entire school to determine if they're "appropriate" (by his batshit conservative standards).
My mom didn't JUST have to do the usual inventory thing for her own library. She ALSO had to do something similar but far WORSE for her entire school's personal classroom libraries.
The objective of this SCHOOL WIDE requirement was to "approve" every book in the school as "appropriate". Every. Single. Book. In. The. School. Not the school library, no, the SCHOOL. All classrooms.
My mom's an elementary school librarian. There's around 1000 students at her school, give or take, and around 50 or so classroom libraries to sort through. And this was supposed to be done over summer, before the kids came back in the fall. Entirely unpaid.
She had to personally approve around 25,000-30,000 books school wide based on whether or not they're "appropriate for kids" (again, by Desantis standards), entirely unpaid, in about 2 months. Keep in mind these classroom libraries had been pre-existing for many years or even decades in most cases, so it's kinda useless to just now care about whether the books are "appropriate".
Mind you, you can't read that many individual books in under two months and then approve them in the system if you tried, even if most were children's books. She spent every single day of her summer, her only real time off each year, logging into the online portal and manually approving books from 8 in the morning to 8 at night, looking them up and trying to determine if they might be okay by the new standards since she couldn't possibly have the time to read them all and check, and again, entirely unpaid on her own. Teachers were scanning in their classroom's books to the system to be approved by her in real time, so she really never could get very far ahead. At most she'd knock out a few hundred a day, which I think is wildly impressive given the circumstances.
Even with all that work, she couldn't open her library for nearly a month into the new school year this August because she spent every school day finishing that approval thing for the classroom libraries for teachers. At least by that point she got paid for it. She was also way behind on getting her library ready for the school year, she really hadn't had time to prepare like normal. It was a crazy stressful time for her all around, moreso than back-to-school time normally is each year.
I helped as much as I knew how to, which mostly just meant looking books up for her or texting back and forth with my friends that work at Barnes and Noble or Books A Million asking if they could skim through certain books that might pose a threat at times, and coming up to the school with her sometimes while she worked on approving books and I worked on preparing her library for "business" again.
My mom was upset because she didn't have time for a real summer vacation, the most she got to do was occasionally visit the beach a few hours away for a day trip. (On one of the beach days, she even took her blessed laptop with her to work on it in the car ride over.) She was in the thick of it neck deep all on her own for months with hardly any time off and no pay to show for it.
It's frustrating because if she were to have approved a book that a parent later complains about, it could mean bad news for her. Again, no way in hell would she have been able to both read every single book, determine if she thought it was okay by Desantis's standards, and then approve every single book within the system. She did her best, but she's still nervous someone will complain.
All this conservative bullshit around books is hurting so many kinds of librarians and educators in so many ways, so just take a moment sometime soon to appreciate your local librarians and public school teachers putting up with this crap. They could use the love. Maybe some strong alcohol. And a big wad of cash, they do a lot of shit unpaid.
And do vote these assholes out of office that are making these poor librarians' and teachers' jobs harder with no additional support or pay.

a long, drawn out yawn left y/n's mouth as he looked out of the window in his last class of the day. his closed palm supported his chin on top of his desk, completely spaced out.
"y/n?.. bub!"
y/n snapped of his trance to see his friend standing by his desk now.
"class is over?" y/n asked as he looked around to see everyone gathering their things. jay snickered and nodded.
"daydreaming again? you can borrow my notes again if you need to," jay offered. y/n clicked his tongue as he stuffed his books carelessly into his bag. jay smiled to himself, watching him struggle with the tetris game that is fitting everything into one bag.
"sorry that i don't really care when some not-really-that-important person in history took a shit in 1875 or whatever," y/n responded with another yawn.
jay rolled his eyes and stuck his hand out for his friend to take. y/n finally stood up from his desk before seeing the gesture. he happily took jay's hand as he swung his bag over his shoulder. jay then led the way out of the classroom, following other eager students who were ready to get home.
y/n felt his heartbeat intensify just like it always did when jay held his hand. no matter how many times he silently scolded himself, the feeling never went away. the pair had been friends since their first year of middle school, and y/n's feelings seemed to grow by the day. it didn't help that their peers would ask frequently if they were dating yet, as they were usually holding hands or displaying other kinds of affection. y/n always assumed jay just didn't care what others said or thought, but he was starting to grow desperate to know if the male really only saw him as a friend.
"oh hey, i forgot," jay's voice cut through the noise of the hallway while the two stopped at their lockers, "tonight is the film festival i told you about like a week ago. i know it's short notice, but do you wanna go with me?"
y/n's eyes brightened in excitement at the invitation. there was nothing he'd rather be doing on his friday night than spending time with jay.
"of course, that sounds fun!" he replied. jay nodded, turning his face away from the other to hide his smile.
"cool. well, i have a study group i'm meeting in five minutes, but i can pick you up later and we can go together?"
"sure, that works!"
jay closed his locker while nodding again at the reply. he ruffled y/n's hair fondly before putting his newly filled backpack on.
"i'll text you, bub."
y/n nodded and watched him turn to head toward the library. his nerves, as usual, were left a mess from the nickname jay frequently used. he finally looked away when jay turned a corner, out of sight. he then resumed moving the rest of his books and materials into his bag and closed his small locker door.
before turning to leave, he saw another friend skipping toward him energetically.
"woah, this is the first time i've seen you not with your boyfriend, y/n!" sunoo exclaimed, stopping in front of him. y/n rolled his eyes.
"not my boyfriend, sunoo."
"tsk, sure. not yet."
Tumblr media
y/n scrolled through his instagram feed as the opening credits of a film began to play. he was now sitting on a blanket that jay had brought along to the festival. the male had just left to get them snacks and drinks, insisting that y/n stay and relax.
the weather was perfect for a movie night. there was a large screen set up and fairy lights streamed in a few places. many other people were scattered across the grassy hill with blankets and comfy chairs. y/n couldn't help but notice all the couples. he hadn't thought about the fact that the film festival would be filled with couples on dates. the idea of this being a date with jay then seeped into his mind, and it made chills go up his arms.
"okay, i got popcorn and some candy and drinks!" jay's eager voice brought the other out of his thoughts.
"oh, thank you," y/n responded. his cheeks now glowed with a bright pink, which didn't go unnoticed.
y/n watched jay sit down closely next to him, getting settled with the snacks. jay took another large blanket and draped it over their legs while y/n decided to brush off his thoughts for now. if he focused on such things, he knew he wouldn't be able to really enjoy their night together, date or not.
"you okay, bub?"
y/n looked at him and gave him a convincing smile.
"i'm fine!"
jay grinned at the cute response and nodded before the duo turned their attention to the screen and began eating.
throughout the movie, they managed to finish their popcorn and naturally move closer to each other without a thought. jay's arm soon hung around y/n's shoulder while the latter's head rested on his chest. this was nothing abnormal for the pair, having cuddled many times before, but something felt off. something different was in the air between them tonight and y/n couldn't decide if he was crazy or if jay could feel it too.
"open," jay said quietly as he held two pieces of candy in front of his friend's mouth. y/n smiled and obliged before jay fed him one piece and popped the second into his own mouth. y/n looked up at him, but jay's gaze was already turned back to the film.
y/n's line of sight suddenly landed on his other friend from a ways away. sunoo was comfortable with sunghoon on their own blanket, but sunoo's view was trapped on y/n and jay, making kissy faces toward them. y/n felt his anxiety rise, hoping jay wouldn't see.
to y/n's relief, sunghoon saw sunoo's teasing. unsurprised, he simply turned sunoo's head back to the screen and pat his head as if saying, 'now stay'. y/n made a mental note to thank sunghoon later.
eventually, the film finally ended and chatter filled the area. jay yawned lightly while y/n stretched in his arms.
"there's another one playing right?" y/n asked.
"yeah, but i think there's a small break before it starts."
y/n nodded and sat up to stretch a bit more. jay gazed at his friend, a little disappointed at the loss of closeness. he watched y/n run a hand through his hair and then check his phone for any notifications. jay felt mesmerized by the view, but could feel nervousness sprout in his chest. he didn't think this was how just friends were supposed to feel. he'd been unable to decipher his feelings in the past, but lately they'd become much clearer.
jay's thoughts were cut off as y/n set his phone down and went back to cuddle him. he now laid on top of jay with his head on his chest again, jay's hands going to play with his hair.
jay couldn't stop a smile from curving on his lips. he somehow felt his confidence bubble up in that moment, deciding to finally go for it. but before he could speak, y/n beat him to it.
"jay?"
"hm?"
"what are we?"
jay's heart skipped a beat.
"oh.. well," he paused. what exactly were they? y/n meant the world to him. he was the first person he thought of in the morning. he was the first person he shared good news with. y/n was just everything.
"we're best friends," jay finally said. he couldn't quite read y/n's reaction, but decided to continue anyways.
"but i'd like to be more."
y/n's face brightened now, a little shocked.
"really?? like.." he stopped while jay smiled again and nodded.
"like boyfriends," jay finished for him.
y/n's whole face went red, unable to stop his own smile now.
'boyfriends', he thought. the simple word ran on repeat in his head for a minute. this couldn't possibly be reality.
"boyfriends.. jay's boyfriend. y/n and jay boyfriends," y/n mumbled in awe. jay laughed lightly at his disbelief.
"you're so cute.. is that a yes, then? ..boyfriends?" jay asked. y/n finally looked at him again and nodded happily.
"boyfriends," he replied as he tightened his arms around him. jay quickly hugged him back as they laid on their blanket in content.
"y/n?"
the male looked up again at the sound of his name, meeting jay's gentle eyes.
"can i kiss you?" he asked. y/n's smile somehow grew even bigger. he nodded again before jay moved to press their lips together softly.
once separated, jay pulled their second blanket back over them as the next film's intro began playing. y/n's head rested on his chest again, not really caring much for the film as nothing could quite amount to the comfort of his new boyfriend.

Rainbow in the Sky
Relationship: Ominis Gaunt x f!MC
Summary: What happens when blind Ominis learns that his best friend MC is a synesthete who associates certain traits of personality to all the colours he can't see? Synaesthesia = Perceptual phenomenon in which stimulation of one sensory pathway leads to involuntary experiences in a second sensory pathway.
Word Count: ~6.1k
Author's Note: Hi! It's been a while since I last posted, but college exams took up all my time. Anyways, I'm back with my first Ominis one shot, so I hope I did good enough for all the Gauntlets out there🤞 This one is for all my fellow synesthetes💕Enjoy!🌈

"Wake up, sleepyhead. Class is over."
"Mmh?"
MC's eyelids fluttered open as a hand gently nudged her awake. Still a bit groggy, she slowly realised that she had unintentionally dozed off during History of Magic. But most importantly, she noticed that she had inadvertently fell asleep on Ominis. A tidal wave of embarrassment washed over her, making her brusquely straighten up.
"Oh, Ominis, I'm so sorry, I didn't realise–"
The blond boy put his hand up to stop her, and smiled softly, "Don’t apologise. It's fine. That's what Professor Binns does to people."
MC tried to forget how much of a fool she had made of herself by gathering her belongings. Ominis did the same, then followed her out of the classroom.
As they began to walk together through the corridors teeming with students, the palpable awkwardness remained between them. The silence was thick, and neither knew quite how to break it. However, Ominis was rapidly becoming frustrated by the tension, and decided to inject some humour into the situation.
"You...uh, sleep really peacefully… like a serene Puffskein." He attempted to lighten the mood with a compliment, albeit clumsily. "Pardon me, I'm not trying to compare you to an animal... I just wanted to say that you were cute– Not that you’re not always cute, of course!"
Instead of easing the tension, his words hung in the air, unintentionally adding another layer of discomfort to their stroll through the corridors. MC mustered a polite smile, forgetting that he was unable to see it, as she was too busy worrying about whether the wand in his hand, with its tip pulsing with red light, could relay the fact that her heart had soared after hearing that he thought she was cute.
Screaming with joy on the inside, but trying hard to remain calm of the outside, MC desperately wished for a change in conversation, "Sebastian must've spent his free period at the library, like the bookworm he is. How about we go fetch him and head to lunch?"
MC thought Ominis would be happy to put an end to this moment of embarrassing torture, but against all expectations, his face contorted into an expression she had never seen on him before. He replied with one short, quick word, "Sure."
Without adding another word, they arrived at Central Hall a few minutes later, right when their mutual friend was coming out of the library and already taking long strides in their direction.
"Synaesthesia!" He shouted out of the blue as soon as he got in front of them.
"Bless you." Ominis joked, although his bitter tone was still present.
"Ugh, no!" Sebastian rolled his eyes at him before turning to his other friend. "MC, remember when you told me that you saw numbers as a certain colour, or that you gave personalities to colours?"
"You can do that?" Ominis questioned, quirking an eyebrow dubiously.
MC remained oddly silent, and turned as white as a sheet. It was Sebastian who answered for her, "Yes, she does. She never told you?"
"No…"
"Oh well, now you know." The brown-haired boy shrugged. " Anyway, I did some research at the library because I was curious and wanted to know why you had that. It took me hours to find a book about it, but I finally did. A Muggle did some research on it not long ago. He couldn't explain where it came from, but he did give it a name – synaesthesia – which is when someone perceives a sensation in addition to the one normally perceived.... So MC, you're a synesthete! It's exceptional!"
Sebastian's enthusiasm, conveyed in his loud tone, attracted the attention of curious ears around them. But as incredible as Sebastian considered this discovery to be, it was not the same for everyone else. It was just one more singularity, one more abnormality in the girl, making her once again the black sheep of Hogwarts.
"Synesthete? Wasn't being the Hero of Hogwarts enough for her? She just had to find something else to prove she was better than everyone else, didn’t she?" Leander Prewett scathed, thinking he was being quiet when in fact he was as discreet as a bull in a china shop. He scoffed. "What a stupid cow."
Next to him, Cressida Blume – Hogwarts's biggest faultfinder – nodded eagerly, “She’s such an attention-seeker.”
MC knew she should not allow herself to be affected by such stupid and immature words, but it was extremely complicated to do so when the people she was closest to could also hear these negative remarks, which could possibly have a bad influence on the way they viewed her. She looked away and bit the inside of her cheek, trying to think of something else.
Sebastian, notoriously impulsive by nature, recognised her expression immediately, which made his blood boil. He approached Leander at a slow but terrifyingly determined pace, until he towered over him, which made Cressida, who had a yellow streak, take several steps backwards
"The whole school already knows you've only got two brain cells left, Prewett, and yet you still open your mouth to prove you're still as daft as ever."
The redhead frowned as he looked up at him, "You tryin' to pick a fight with me, Sallow?"
"’Course I do! It's good that you still manage to notice the obvious. Even if it takes you a lot longer than what's considered normal. Perhaps you've lost another brain cell?" Sebastian smirked derisively.
Quickly tiring of being taken for a fool, the Gryffindor reached into his robe pocket to pull out his wand... but Sebastian saw right through him.
Seeing red at the idea of Leander having the ridiculous audacity to think that he would be able to defeat the best duellist of Hogwarts, the Slytherin drew faster than Leander, right before the redhead could complete his incantation.
Sebastian cast spell after spell with such an astonishing speed that his opponent was unable to evade the incoming magical onslaught. His wand danced through the air, sending various spells that formed a whole colour palette. He began with a simple Levioso to neutralise him, followed by a Flipendo to humiliate him in front of the spectators who had clumped together to watch the spectacle, and finally a Depulso to finish him off in style.
A powerful impact propelled Leander backward, and with a resounding thud, he collided face first with the solid stone wall, before falling limply back to the equally hard ground.
Preventing Sebastian from savouring his victory, Professor Weasley's horrified gasp resounded, "Mr. Sallow! What on earth possessed you to attack another student for no reason? Such savagery will not be tolerated! One hour of detention with me. Right now."
"But he insulted-" Sebastian tried to defend himself.
However, Professor Weasley cut him off sharply, "Two hours."
"But he started it! Why should I be the one to waste my time in detention?"
"You've wasted your time attacking a fellow student. Surely you can waste your precious time in detention too, can't you? Now, will it be three hours, or will you follow me in silence?"
Sebastian let out an irritated exhale through his nose before turning his gaze to MC. Without saying a word, the intensity in his pupils was enough to convey his message. 'If that's what it takes to defend you, I'd do it again.' Still, MC sent him a rueful yet thankful smile, and watched him follow Professor Weasley.
"Oh, Miss Blume." The Deputy Headmistress stopped momentarily in her tracks and turned around. "Take Mr. Prewett to the hospital wing, please."
Cressida rushed at Leander's side and helped him to his feet. His black and blue face was now displayed for everyone to see. He held on tightly to his housemate as he seemed on the verge of blacking out. But before they could disappear to the Hospital Wing, Ominis approached them, guided by his sentient wand.
"Prewett." Ominis spat his name as if it was an insult. When he no longer heard footsteps, he knew he had his attention. "If I hear or even get wind of you speaking ill of MC one more time, I won't hesitate to ask Black to have you expelled. You know how good friends he is with my father."
Ominis could not see his reaction, but his silence and the heavy tension growing between them was a satisfying enough response.
"That goes for you too, Blume." The Slytherin added, just to make sure he had made himself clear.
Ominis only heard Cressida make a short 'humph' of displeasure before the sound of their footsteps against the stone faded away. He subsequently turned back to his friend.
"MC?"
No response. He could not even sense her with his wand anymore.
"MC!" Ominis called out again, just in case she was still in the vicinity, but just far enough away to be imperceptible to his wand.
Still no response. She had run away.
"Fuck."
Obviously, she had not gone to the Great Hall to get lunch without him (Ominis knew her too well to think about that even for a fraction of second). No, he knew that she would want to hide after being the centre of unwanted attention, and he could only think of one place where she could have taken refuge... The Undercroft was his destination.
Trusting his instincts, he navigated the familiar twists and turns of the castle. He approached the secluded clock in the Dark Arts Tower, and opened the secret passageway with a simple flick of his wand. Once the gate to the Undercroft was raised, Ominis entered, the echo of his footsteps reverberating against the walls, making the boy doubt whether his friend was truly here. Nevertheless, the secret room did not remain silent for long, for MC made her presence known on her own.
"Here to make fun of me, aren't you? Another one of your snarky comments?" She asked, her voice coated with bitter sarcasm.
The jest failed to elicit a laugh from Ominis, who replied most solemnly, "I would never dare. Not with you."
"Good. Because you should know that if you did, I'd hex your arse until you joined Prewett in the hospital wing."
"I am perfectly aware of that." He smiled tenderly, approaching the direction from which her voice came.
"Good." She repeated. Once he had stopped in front of her, she pulled him by the wrist to sit on the floor next to her, their backs against the wall. Once he was settled, she released his hand.
Displeased at the loss of contact, Ominis felt the need to make himself interesting again, "Speaking of Prewett, I want you to know that I wanted to do something before Sebastian, but... you know how brash he is."
"I know."
"However... I talked to Prewett – well, more like threatened him actually – but point is, he'll never bother you again."
"Thank you, Ominis." She replied, and he could hear the genuine gratitude in her voice.
But something was not quite right because, if usually the way she pronounced his name with such warmth and how it rolled perfectly off her tongue did wonders to make him feel better... at this moment it was not enough.
“...You could have talked about your synaesthesia with me as well, you know? I could have been just as good of a listener as Sebastian.” He declared without thinking, hurt taking over his facial features.
“I know, you would. Even better than him, without a doubt.”
“Then why didn’t you tell me?”
There was a moment of silence before he heard admit, “I was scared you’d think I’m stark raving mad, and–”
“I find it fascinating." He swiftly cut her off, not wanting to give her the time to depreciate herself any further. "How you give personalities to things that people don't even look at twice, I've never seen that level of creativity before. It just shows how deeply caring and thoughtful you are. You have a heart of gold, and the most kind and beautiful soul I have ever come across."
MC had tears in her eyes just from hearing him speak. Never before had such beautiful words been spoken to her, "Do you really mean that?"
"Every single word." Ominis insisted. "You have a unique talent. Do not let people's jealousy drag you down."
“It’s not a very useful talent though…” She mumbled.
“Allow me to disagree.” His falling intonation made it clear that his sentence was finished. Yet MC knew him well enough to recognise his expression when he had something to add, but did not dare.
“Go on.” She encouraged him.
MC’s soft words were the spur the young man needed to reveal what he had in the back of his mind, "Well, I always hear people talk about colours, or read about them in books, but I can't see what they look like, so...” He paused for a moment, either shy about his request, or afraid of refusal. “Perhaps you could help me understand what they feel like?"
“Oh, Ominis…” She cooed upon seeing the pastel shade creeping up his high cheekbones. She instinctively put a hand on his shoulder in an attempt to make him at ease again. “Of course, I’ll try my best. What colour do you want to know about first?”
“Let’s start with your favourite colour. Pink.” He declared without even having to think about it.
MC felt her own cheeks becoming beet red in turn. It was the way he remembered that insignificant detail they had rarely talked about. But it was also the way he had uttered the name of her favourite colour with confidence, without the slightest ounce of hesitation. He was always so attentive, and it made her feel all giddy. In fact, he always made her feel that way with the slightest show of affection, so it was nothing new, and yet it still remained exhilarating.
Unfortunately, as thrilled as he made her feel, he made her just as nervous, and she often ended up stammering (which she was sure ruined any chance she had of ever being able to charm him), “Uhm well… P-Pink is really sweet and kind, even if she’s quite naive. She's someone who looks at life through... well, rose-tinted glasses. She sees the good in everything and everyone, and is often lost in a daydream. Dreams mostly of love, while her cheeks turn pink to match her name.”
MC waited patiently for Ominis to respond in whatever kind of way, rather than remain agonisingly silent, with his eyes piercing right through her soul even though they could not see. She needed to know what he thought of her. If he understood her, or if he judged her. If he thought she was weird, or even worse, terrifying for thinking that way. She just desperately needed him to say the slightest word.
What she did not know, however, was that Ominis was remaining obediently silent because he was waiting for MC to continue with her explanations, which he found captivating.
“Am I detailing things enough? Does it help you?" MC decided to ask in a small voice to end the nerve-wracking silence.
Ominis offered her a soothing smile, "It does. You're doing a brilliant job."
"Brilliant...” She repeated awkwardly. “What colour do you want to hear about next?"
"Sebastian once told me the colour of the Slytherin house was green. What does it represent to you?"
“Pure joy. As soon as you see Green arrive, you're instantly relieved, because you know happiness is back. A bit like when grass reappears after a long winter when snow covered all nature and deprived it of its colours. But don’t get me wrong, Green isn't at all extroverted and attention-seeking. No, Green’s the kind of quiet, everlasting delight that makes for true happiness.”
Ominis took his time to process MC's explanation, before frowning, "Don’t people usually say that yellow is the colour of happiness?"
“Mhm, you’re right. They do. Usually because it’s the colour of the sun and a lot of flowers. But I think it's a hypocritical colour. She's always glowing, so brightly that all you can see is her, as if she wants to show off her happiness to everyone. But it's impossible to be that happy all the time! People like that are always hiding something.” The further MC went into her description, the more her calm tone disappeared and became louder.
Ominis listened intently to her, nodding along words, “Duly noted. I'll be wary of Yellow.”
“As you should.”
Even while being blind, Ominis knew by the tone of her voice that she was adorably pouting with her arms crossed in front of her chest. Witnessing how riled up she could get over colours, it made him inevitably chuckle, "All these colours, they really are like true people to you, aren't they?"
“They are. My brain has created all these characters for as long as I can remember. I’ve lived my whole life with them, so I can’t help but take this at heart…” She confessed, somewhat insecurely. “Is it weird?”
“Not at all. To be entirely truthful… I think it’s endearing, and makes me want to know how that beautiful mind of yours works even more. I only wish I could know you down to the smallest detail.”
MC could not understand how Ominis managed to say such sincere words out loud without the slightest difficulty. He admitted them to her as easily as if he were reciting the recipe for a potion, even when they were face to face. She wished she had even a quarter of his charisma... perhaps then she would have the courage to confess how she really felt.
She looked down, nervously tucking a lock of hair behind her ear, "So, uhm... let's continue, shall we? How about red?"
"I'm listening." He replied softly, smiling as if to give her confidence.
MC cleared her throat, “Red is really powerful, and so everything they feel is powerful. It’s always something like anger, or passion. They’re hot-blooded, but that’s why they feel warm and pleasant. But! You should be careful, because they can burn you if you come too close to them.”
"Sounds like a dangerous colour then." Ominis remarked.
"They can be. But if they like you, then you can trust them with your life. It's a really loyal colour, just like Blue. Blue is–"
“Oh, I know that one!” Ominis exclaimed proudly, now sitting more upright. “Blue is the colour that represents sadness. That’s why people say they’re blue when they’re sad, isn’t it?”
“Yes, you’re right…” MC paused hesitantly. He seemed so happy to finally know something about colours, that it broke her heart to have to tell him that she had a different kind of perception. “But… just like for Yellow, I don’t see things the same way as everyone else.”
Ominis's face fell a little. He had tried to impress MC by showing her that he was not completely ignorant, but he had failed miserably. Nevertheless, he forced himself to keep a slight smile on his lips to mask his disappointment, “How do you see it then?”
“Well, in my mind, Blue is the very definition of serenity and comfort. He's always perfectly calm and peaceful. He always knows just the right words to say. You'll never find anyone more trustworthy than him. You look up to him as you would look up to the sky.”
"Blue sounds majestic, I like him. I think it’s my favourite colour so far.” Ominis declared, making MC grin as she was delighted to be able to convey some emotions to him through her explanations. “Do you have any colour associated to sadness, then?"
“Purple. She’s always sad, because she looks like Blue and Red died and melted together to make her, so she can only mourn them. I wish there was a way to cheer her up, but it’s impossible. That’s how things are, unfortunately. She’s the representation of perpetual heartbreak.”
"And wouldn’t another colour be able to help her? Like Orange maybe?" Ominis suggested, now fully immersed in his friend's imaginary world.
MC could not hold back her scoff, "Oh, Merlin, no. Orange is so arrogant and big-headed! He thinks very highly of himself. He believes he's better than everyone else, because he's not a colour you often see in nature. So when he's around, he stands out so much from the crowd, that he's the only thing you can see.”
“So by that logic, someone who wears orange is a person who wants to draw attention to themselves?” He questioned, tilting his head slightly to the side out of curiosity.
“I guess you can say that.”
After concluding, MC recited the rainbow in her head, to make sure she had not forgotten any of the colours. Realising that she had presented them all to Ominis, she smiled in satisfaction.
"Well, I think that's it. We've talked about all the colours!" She announced cheerfully and clapped her hands together, just about to stand up.
"Wait!" Ominis held out his hand to stop her from leaving.
He put his hand where he thought her shoulder was, but his aim was too low. His fingertips brushed against her, running up her arm, and even through the layers of her uniform, it sent electric sparks all over her skin, resulting in her heart skipping a beat.
Blissfully oblivious to what he was making MC feel, Ominis continued, “I also read about brown. What does it feel like?”
“Oh, I’m sorry, I forgot about that one.” She hurried to answer, lest he think that she wanted to wrap up their conversation quickly. “Technically, brown's not a colour that's part of the rainbow. But anyway, it's a really basic colour that you cand find anywhere around you. Sure, he’s common, but he never disappoints you. He’s in harmony with everything. I reckon he’s the type of person that seems calm on the outside, but who has so many exciting – even chaotic – things going on in his mind. I associate brown to Sebastian a lot.”
Ominis jerked his hand away from MC's shoulder and recoiled from her, as if he'd received an electric shock. His jaw tightened and his eyebrows furrowed, creating a shadow over his misty opal eyes. They had always been full of light, giving them the ability to soothe MC, but seeing them at that exact moment, the girl could do nothing but wonder what she had said or done wrong to render them so dark.
(Un)Fortunately, Ominis was quick to give her some guidance on the subject with his next line, "So Sebastian gets a colour? What about me? Am I not good enough to have one?"
Piqued by the poison that was intoxicating his intonation, MC did not let it faze her, "Quite the opposite, actually. You're too important to only have one."
"Whatever does that mean?"
“It means that whenever I think about you, I feel red... like…" She flirted with the edge of the precipice, but her voice cracked and failed her before she could fully launch herself.
Even though he could hear the distress in her voice, MC was infinitely grateful at this moment that he could not see her cheeks as red as a poppy, as well as her eyes which were starting to fill with tears because her nerves were starting to fray.
Sensing that she was struggling, Ominis immediately abandoned his cold, distant attitude. Instead, he decided to reach out to her again, but this time he rested his hand on her knee, "It's okay. Take your time."
This simple gesture was enough to give MC the strength to continue what she wanted to tell him. She took a deep breath before crossing the point of no return, this time with determination, and seized the golden opportunity to reveal her true colours.
“I feel red like my ardent feelings for you and the way they overpower me whenever I'm around you. Or like my jealousy when I see you close to other girls. I also feel orange, because I’m pretentious enough to believe that I'm the right person for you, that we belong together. Yellow is hypocrite, just like I am when I pretend to be content with us simply being friends. I'm overcome with green every time I see you coming towards me with your beautiful smile. I see blue when I look into your eyes. They’re the most magnificent and reassuring place on Earth. They remind me that you’re the most trustworthy person I’ll ever meet. I trust you with my life, because I know you’d never do anything to hurt me. I feel purple when I remind myself that you might never return all the love I have for you. And lastly... I feel terribly pink right now, because I'm naive enough to think that my confession won’t ruin our friendship, and make you run away from me."
Ominis never really found himself at a loss for words, it happened once in a blue moon. He had always had a knack for finding the right comment at the right time. MC had said so herself earlier. But now, after hearing his best friend make the most beautiful and honest of declarations of love – and rest assured he had heard a good handful of them in his life with all the pureblood girls trying to charm him in the hope of joining the overrated Gaunt family – Ominis was simply rendered speechless. And a few seconds later, he also found himself breathless when he heard MC's melodious giggle echoing between the stone walls.
The girl was laughing for a whole list of reasons. Firstly, because the situation seemed so surreal. When she woke up this morning, she never thought she would end up pouring her heart out to Ominis. It was such a thrilling yet white-knuckle experience.
The second reason was how lighter she felt now that everything was off her chest, and out in the open. She could no longer understand why she had decided to carry such a heavy weight in secret for so long.
Lastly, it was impossible for MC to remain impassive in front of Ominis's hilariously adorable expression of frustration. With his defined arched eyebrows raised, and his remarkable eyes as wide as they could possibly be. Then there was the red tinge that had taken hold of his pale skin and even his ears. Not to mention his mouth agape, ready to utter the words that were stuck in his throat, while his bottom lip quivered, only making MC want to suck on it and graze it between her teeth.
"You're the rainbow in the sky of my life, Ominis!" She added with a radiant joy in her voice that was as obvious as the sincerity and beauty of her words. The warmth of her intonation was such that it could warm the cold, dark room that was the Undercroft. It was a sound that made Ominis's heart beat faster, and yet made all the tension in his muscles vanish. Never in his life had he heard anything or anyone as soothing and angelic as MC.
He took a moment to think about what he was going to say next, searching for the right words to express what he was feeling, and when he found them, he expressed them without the slightest tremor in his voice, “You’re right. You’re truly naive, because this is going to inevitably devastate our friendship.”
MC gasped out of fright but Ominis did not let her get a word in edgeways before he was finished.
“However, you were wrong about the second part. It did nothing to make me want to run away from you. Quite the opposite, in fact. It gave me the courage to finally act on my innermost desires, and get closer to you, like I've always wanted.”
Now that he said it, MC realised how he had scooted closer to her unnoticed, until their sides were leaning against each other, making their knees brush, and their hands touch. Using his little finger to caress the back of MC's hand and test the waters, Ominis fully grasped his beloved's hand and intertwined their fingers together when he realised that she was not reluctant to his touch.
Thrilled by his gesture, MC looked up at his beautiful face that she now could see up close thanks to their intimate proximity. She could not help but be mesmerized by the intricate details of his features, starting with the numerous beauty spots that adorned his pale skin and caught the light in such a way that it was impossible for her not to trace their contours with her eyes. She was fascinated by the realisation that, over the many years of their friendship, she had memorised the location of each of these moles, like familiar landmarks on a map she treasured. One small cluster as black as coal was just below his cheekbone, as well as on his jaw, highlighting its sharpness.
As she continued her silent inspection, MC's fingers began to twitch with the urge to gently trace the paths between those beauty spots, resulting in her squeezing Ominis's hand instead. She wanted to map them with her touch in the same way she had done with her eyes. Especially the isolated one next to his left eye. It stood out from the rest and added a touch of charm to his gaze, drawing attention to his unique and expressive eyes, with their irises that were a mixture of azure and creamy rays, giving them a welcoming depth in which MC wanted to drown. His eyes could not see her, and yet they looked at her with such warmth and admiration, echoing the emotions he concealed so well. Every nuance of his expression spoke volumes, revealing a vulnerability that only exacerbated her own feelings. MC could feel her heart beating faster, a gentle reminder of the unspoken connection they shared.
Still sensing the way she was admiring him as if he were the incarnation of Apollo himself, Ominis brought their entwined hands to his lips, and placed a tender, lingering kiss on her knuckles, “I've loved you since fifth year, and I've fallen for you more and more with each passing day, but..."
"But what?" She breathed, her voice barely louder than a murmur. She feared that her curiosity would put an end to their moment of complicity.
"...But I always thought you fancied Sebastian.”
“Sebastian is dear to me. But like a brother. He has been the confidant of all my admiration for you.”
With that revelation, Ominis's face drew nearer, until she could feel the warmth of his breath, a tantalizing whisper against her skin. The air seemed to thicken with anticipation, making MC close her eyes in an attempt to calm her rapid heartbeat. She soon realised it was all in vain, for the scent of the boy she cherished immediately overcame her senses and excited her even more.
Ominis's perfume wafted through the air, enveloping MC in its amalgam of cedar and bergamot aromas, a blend of sophistication and warmth. She allowed herself to briefly savour the fragrance, before opening her eyes again.
But, in the blink of an eye (literally), the moment shifted. Ominis, perhaps aware of the charged atmosphere, had leant in even closer. MC's gaze flickered to his lips, and for a moment, time seemed to stand still. The unspoken tension lingering between them reached its zenith, and the uncharted territory of what could be hung in the air. A fleeting thought suddenly crossed MC's mind – was this the red-letter day where he would bridge the gap between friendship and something more?
And sure enough...
“Can I kiss you?” He asked in a soft, sensual voice. He was only a couple of inches from her now.
MC was tickled pink, “You don’t need to ask. I’m all yours.”
Ominis raised his hand to where he thought MC's head was and, sensing his hesitation, the girl guided him to her cheek. This small gesture gave him the final green light to do whatever he wanted with her. Once his palm made contact with her skin, he searched for her lips with his thumb, and when he found them, he traced their contours with as much delicacy as if he were touching the petals of a fragile flower, reflecting all the esteem and care he had for her.
Ominis smiled at the softness of her lips before deciding, at last, to feel them with his own. He kissed her in a slow and tender dance. He took his time to appreciate all the sensations that were new to him, appreciate his first kiss with the witch of his dreams. Each lick and suck were a deliberate exploration as if he aimed to imprint every subtlety and nuances about her into his brain – from her sugary taste of remnants of Chocolate Frogs, to the shape of her full and plump lips, by way of her hypnotic floral fragrance.
When she had explained all these colours to him, he had managed to imagine them, but now... Now, he understood them.
Red for the intensity of his passion for her. Orange because he wanted her to only have eyes for him. Yellow for his hypocrisy when he played the act of the gentleman who wanted nothing more than a chaste kiss. Green for... well, how could he be anything but unmeasurably happy in this instant? Blue because, just like it was his favourite colour, she was his favourite person. He always wanted to be with her, just to feel like he was somewhere he belonged. Purple when he thought of the possibility of this magical moment being nothing more than a dream, a wicked trick of his imagination. And yet pink, because he hoped he was living a dream come true, and would get to keep her by his side forever.
When he felt himself starting to lose control over his actions, when his urges threatened to take over his chivalry, he immediately pulled away. This was one of the rare occasions where Ominis was grateful to be blind. Because if he was able to see her tantalising lips, he just knew that he would be doomed. He would never be able to spend even a second of his life without kissing them.
His hand which was still cupping her cheek, started caressing her smooth skin, "Not only do you make me feel all these colours, MC, but you're also the first person to make me experience them as well."
Sure, Ominis's confession was lovely and went straight to her heart... but MC could not take her mind off the primal urge to kiss devour Ominis that coursed through her veins. And so, instead of responding with words, she chose to convey her love with a different language, a more physical one.
She threw herself at him, wrapping her arms around his neck, causing him to topple backwards, resulting in MC lying on top of him on the floor. Without waiting, she smashed her lips back on his – which, let's face it, was far more meaningful and accurate than any words she could have come up with.
She clutched his wrists to place them on her waist and hips, like an enthusiastic invitation to explore the new curves of her body, which Ominis accepted gladly, starting to trace her contours and memorise them. Whereupon, one of her own hands wandered up and down his chest, trying to feel as much of her lover as she could through the textile barrier that was his white shirt. Meanwhile, her other hand snaked around his neck until it reached the top of his nape. She tangled her fingers in his golden hair, pulling it lightly by the roots, earning a needy whimper from Ominis that was muffled by their fiery kiss.
Time seemed to suspend as they entirely immersed themselves in the experience, as if etching every fibre of the other into their memory. The way they pulled each other closer, the way they wanted desired and desperately needed each other...
They were so engrossed in each other's electric touch that they did not hear the rattle of the wrought-iron gate being opened. They only snapped out of their own little bubble when they heard Sebastian's whistling as he caught them red-handed, followed by his quippy voice exclaiming, “Took you guys long enough!”

modern!sej who's had a crush on you since the start of high-school when you and him wound up in the clinic because he had a bad case of influenza and you had a stomach bug.
modern!sej who'd drag Coryo around the campus just so they'd bump into you. (you'd smile and he'd greet hello with three consecutive O's and Coryo was not pleased, often rolling his eyes at Sejanus' giddy grin when you'd be a few steps past them.)
modern!sej who listens to you ramble and talk his ear off with conspiracy theories, realizations, gossip, chiming in every now and then. (He usually tells you off for talking people behind their back but he loves it gossip as much as you do if not more.)
modern!sej who I personally feel like is into a ball sport nobody would expect him to be in to (like volleyball) and he's one of the most kick-ass players out of the entire team and whenever there'd be matches against other schools you'd be cheering the loudest yk and you'd be wearing his Jersey and all that HEDGSHSH.
modern!sej who'd sometimes switch seats with Coryo when the teacher in the class he's in does a count off for groupmates just so he'd be grouped with you.
modern!sej who loves spoiling you with his dad's money just because he can and he absolutely will.
"Sej, just because I tried all these clothes on does not mean I have the intention of buying them."

modern!sej who is DEATHLY afraid of heights. (When you first started dating you joked about how everyday was practically a living hellscape for him because he was so tall.)
modern!sej who's saved the most dazzling contact photo of you while you just have a horrendously lighted 0.5 pic of him you took at 5 in the morning.
modern!sej who'd purposefully drop sordid drawings he managed to doodle in the middle of class into your backpack so during the next period you'd find them and you'd start giggling to yourself and your classmates would give you stares.

modern!sej and you who would pass notes in the middle of class as well, even if you two were at the very back of the classroom and sitting next to eachother.
Arachne's voice is making me want to kill myself
Don't say that, that's mean
Oh come on Sejanus, even you aren't too saintly to admit her voice sound terrible
Fine, I guess it's sorta irritating
Her voice sounds like if a dog's squeaky toy crawled off to have sex with a bagpipe
(then you two would burst out into silent laughter.)
modern!sej who is SUCH a fucking nerd (he's one of the top 5 highest grading students in your year, in decathlon, the debate team, men's volleyball varsity, the school paper) sometimes when he recites in class he'll subtly glance your way to see your reaction to his answer.

modern!sej who wonders every second of every day how you ended up with him.
modern!sej who gets jealous when you hang out with festus or felix a little too long after class. But never makes it obvious.

modern!sej who remembers the littlest things about you too, how you take your coffee, the certain type of pens you prefer, your favorite author, your favorite type of flower, favorite swear word.
modern!sej who'd never hesitate to help you with schoolwork if you were having a hard time understanding the topic. (He won't stop until he makes sure you have a firm grasp on the topic and you're convinced he could make an amazing teacher.)
modern!sej who looks at you like you hung the stars in the sky.
modern!sej who'd blush whenever ma plinth would bust out his old baby photos whenever you'd come over to their house.

modern!sej who'd listen to you yap and find it adorable
modern!sej who loves photobooths and would always convince you to take photos with him. (Your go to pose is to flip the camera off.) Then you'd get the top half and Sej gets the bottom half.
modern!sej who hates coffee and loves to drink tea (he dosen't do well with caffeine.)
modern!sej who is a sore loser when it comes to card games.
modern!sej who'd write prose and poetry about you (but he wouldn't dare show it, he wouldn't want to make you cry.)
modern!sej who is a GOD at karaoke (he also may or may not be a Broadway kid)
modern!sej who'd instantly agree and laugh when you'd send him things and say "this is so us."
modern!sej who would come over to your house whenever he'd get into a fight with his dad, he'd get so angry while trying to let go of all the pent up emotions he'd start crying and you're always there to comfort him.
modern!sej whose love language is acts of service, would always without a doubt be up for anything, he'd always be there when you need help, whatever the job calls for Sej seems to be always overqualified. When you feel like the world is against you he'd remind you that it's him and you against the world, neither of you were going to be alone in this fight anymore as long as you had eachother. (Then you'd laugh and tell him how incredibly cheesy it was.)
modern!sej who loves watching films, so more often than not you two would be found at the movie theater munching on some free popcorn because the guy that works the concessionaire stand knows you guys well enough to just give you guys free food.
modern!sej who is a munch. Enough SAID.

pairing: choi beomgyu x fem!reader genre: angst, fluff, hurt/comfort wc: 2.8k warnings: yn overworks herself :(, mentions of food, terrible parents, yn not taking care of herself, gyu got ur back dw summary: when the happy-go-lucky student crosses paths with the infamous overachiever, what happens? or: y/n finds something akin to home.
Tumblr media
You are an overachieving student, which everyone knew. Always seen raising your hand to recite, being active in class. Whenever there was a test coming up, everyday after class had ended, you'd be found in the school library even until the sun had set. You would lock yourself in your room to study. It wasn't a suprise to anyone anymore when all you've received are A's and B's.
You are punctual. Never late and specially never absent. No matter the reason was, you would still attend class and have a perfect attendance by the end of every school year. Feeling unwell would not stop you from going to school as much as your body begged for you to rest.
It was clear to everyone that because you're too dedicated to spend all your time studying, you forget to take care of yourself. The dark circles under your eyes are much more evident today, the only thing you have consumed is coffee.
As you walked through the long halls of school, you planned what you would be doing for today. As usual, you will spend your break at the library. Your stomach grumbled in protest.
When you opened the door to your first class, all the thoughts in your mind disappeared. There, placed on your table, a strawberry milk and a sandwich. As you approached, you could feel the lingering stares of your classmates. The noisy classroom now filled with hush whispers.
They were quick to look away when you turn to them. You sigh and turn your attention back to the food placed on your table. You sat, holding the strawberry milk, you inspect it with your eyes, making sure they weren't messing with you.
When you confirmed that it was new, you placed the straw and took a sip.
It felt nice to have something inside your stomach other than coffee. But it felt nicer to know that someone out there was trying to look out for your well-being.
While drinking, you looked around the room, trying to see who had their eyes on you. Maybe that'll give you a hint of who gave you this.
But even after trying to look at them through your peripheral vision, you couldn't spot anyone that was obvious enough. When you finished with your drink, you took a bite out of the sandwich after many moments of hesitation.
It tasted nice. You silently thanked the person who gave you this. You'd never admit it, but you were starting to feel the effects of lack of sleep and food in your system.
When you look back down at your food, your eyes spot a yellow paper sticking out at the bottom of your sandwich. It was a sticky note, it said,
"here's some of my favorite snacks! i can't help but notice that you're barely eating bc your hands are almost always occupied with books. studying isn't a bad thing, but you should take breaks! enjoy your food :D"
A small, but genuine smile formed in your face. Your chest filled with unexplainable warmth.
And as you continue to eat, still staring at the note, you failed to notice the boy a few seats behind you, hiding his face behind a textbook. Beomgyu smiled, feeling relief spread throughout his chest at the sight of you enjoying food.
Tumblr media
What you thought was a one time thing, is now a daily routine. At first, it was hard to get used to — receiving snacks along with the yellow sticky note you've grown fond of. There would always be words of encouragement written in a rushed, but neat handwriting.
You treasured it all.
Soon, you got used to it. You would always look forward to what they bring you next and what set of encouragement they would give you. This became your boost and motivation.
This also helped you lose your terrible habit of consuming nothing but coffee.
Today, you were at school slightly early than normal. Mainly because you wanted to get out of your house as soon as possible. Your mother had brought up the tests where you got B's when you were eating breakfast together, causing another argument.
The air was tense. It always was.
This is the place you've grown used to calling home, although it felt nothing like it. The suffocating pressure was always there, but you gulp it down with your breakfast.
As soon as your mother spoke, you knew you preferred the uncomfortable silence more.
"I saw the results."
You didn't bother looking up from your plate. You already knew she was wearing that face that held all the disappointment. Your father was probably staring at you the same way, letting your mother do the talking.
"Why was there a B? Me and your father work so hard just so you'd be able to study and this is how you repay us? Why can't you be more like your cousin? His parents are bragging about his straight A's, meanwhile—"
You blast the music you're playing in your headphones a bit more louder. You don't want to have these thoughts while you were at school. The grip you had on your bag had tightened.
You didn't even notice you were already outside the classroom until you placed your hand on the doorknob. You opened it and quickly got in. You were about to make your way to your desk, but all your movements come to a halt.
Your previous thoughts about home has been pushed to the back of your mind.
The room would've been empty if it wasn't for one person.
Standing in front of your desk, hands full of snack, is Beomgyu.
Choi Beomgyu, the famous social butterfly. The guy who's famous for his talents and his likeable personality. The same guy who you had been thanking silently for caring for you.
Your mouth opened on its own, shock plastered in your face. It seemed as if the sound of closing doors had caught his attention, placing the food down on your table before sparing a glance at the door.
His eyes widened for a second, before he grew flustered. "Oh. You're here early today."
"Yeah." You slid off your headphones and slowly walked closer. "Um. These are for you." He spoke, gesturing awkwardly towards the snacks he was holding a few seconds ago.
"It was you this whole time?" You asked.
He nodded his head, smiling a bit. "Yeah. I noticed you weren't really taking good care of yourself, so I decided to do it for you."
You were shocked to say the least. Although you knew he'd probably do things like this if he wanted to, you never would've expected him to do it for you.
"...Thank you. So much. This is kind of embarrassing, but you have been such a big help to me." Your mouth tilted upwards. He smiled back, a sight you liked seeing. "I'm just glad you're feeling better now."
You adjusted the strap of your bag, readying yourself. He's been helping and spending his money on you, you must thank him somehow. "If you don't mind, would you like to join me during lunch?"
"Already asking me out?" He teased lightly, in which you roll your eyes with a smile. "Yeah. You better agree, I don't usually invite people for lunch." Although you had been joking, your words had a splash of truth in them.
This was the first time in months that you're asking someone to join you for lunch, you rarely even have lunch so this was new.
"If you insist." He replied, smile never leaving his face, even as he walked away from you. You sat on your own seat as well, watching as your classmates entered the room one by one.
Once the teacher arrived, they began their daily lesson. Your eyes never left the clock.
Tumblr media
"This is weird."
You sat beside Beomgyu in the crowded cafeteria. He laughed before commenting, "It is different from the library. Much more... noisy."
Ignoring the burning stares of the students behind your back, you nodded.
Beomgyu watched as you took out the snacks he gave you before, sharing some of it with him.
"I know this isn't enough to repay you for all the things you've given me, but it's all I have for now, I wasn't really prepared to meet who's been helping me." You said.
He only shook his head. "Those are yours. You don't have to repay me for anything. I wanted to help you, so I did. Don't feel obligated on repaying me."
Your heart felt warm.
He wanted to help and he wasn't expecting anything back. He genuinely just wanted you to feel better.
"But I want to share these with you." You smiled. "Besides, I don't think I can finish it all."
He grinned, "I guess I can help you finish it. I did give too much today." He took a banana milk and you took the strawberry milk.
Lunch time with him was spent with laughter and playful banters. You tried to get to know each other, throwing random questions and each of you answering.
You weren't used to it, but it felt oddly nice doing something other than studying. Perhaps it was because you missed bonding with your peers and messing around like teens again. Or maybe it was because you liked Beomgyu's presence.
Either way, your lunch time was well spent and you're almost certain this wont be the last time this would happen.
Tumblr media
You were right. After that day, he stopped his routine of giving you snacks, now joining you during lunch time.
Sometimes, you'd both be spotted at the most quiet part of the cafeteria. Most of the time, students would see you together at the library.
It wasn't long until you fell into another routine. Instead of being alone in the library during breaks, you now have Beomgyu beside you. Because of this, you don't spend most of your time forcing knowledge into your brain. You both usually chat until lunch break is over while your hands are occupied with food instead of books.
The two of you had also exchanged numbers. You don't use your phone that much, only using it to update your parents if you were planning to come home late. But now, whenever you weren't next to Beomgyu, you'd be on your phone texting each other. Sending memes, planning what to eat next lunch break, random rambles, and so much more.
It seems as if the students from school weren't the only ones to notice how much time you and Beomgyu had been spending together.
You just got home, a smile brought by Beomgyu couldn't be wiped out of your face. He simply had that effect. Going up the stairs, you planned to go to your room only to be stopped by your mother.
"We need to talk."
You froze.
She wasn't speaking in her usual voice. It had a slight edge, and that made you uneasy. You walked away from the stairs, following your mother into the living room where your father was waiting. All three of you sat in silence.
You wanted to be anywhere but here.
"Who have you been spending your time with?" Your father broke the silence. You sat still, dread filling your body.
How did they know?
When you came up with no response, your mother spoke up.
"First, we hear that you got a B. We thought you would've learned your lesson by then and start studying harder. But now we suddenly start hearing that you're hanging out with a boy? Was he the reason why you've been getting such low results?"
"No, he wasn't." You defended.
"So, you admit it? You've been hanging out together?" Your mother countered. You felt helpless the more you spoke to them. If this conversation didn't go the way they wanted to, the possibility of you seeing Beomgyu ever again would disappear.
"Yes, we have been hanging out. But he's not a bad influence at all! He took care of me in moments where I couldn't take care of myself." He cared for me more than you ever could, you wanted to say, but you didn't want to add more fuel to their anger and disappointment.
"This shows how much freedom we've given you. You're grounded. Maybe it would be better for your studies if you never see him again." Your mother decided.
They missed your entire point.
You wanted to cry out of frustration.
Couldn't they see how much happiness he brought you? It hasn't been long since you've met, but the changes in your life was apparent.
Without thinking, you ran out.
You didn't spare them a glance, even when they were screaming at you to come back.
Tumblr media
It was almost midnight when Beomgyu received a text. He squints as he reads the notification, fingers immediately clicking as soon as he saw your name.
y/nnie: gyu
y/nnie: are you there?
gyu: im here im here
gyu: everything ok?
y/nnie: i need someone right now
y/nnie: please.
gyu: where are u?
y/nnie: im at the park near our school
gyu: im omw, stay where u are
The moment he arrived at the park, he easily spotted you. Alone in the swing set, eyes puffy, nose red, as if you've been crying.
When he got closer, he immediately engulfed you in a tight hug. You sit in shock for the first few seconds, before slowly hugging back, burying yourself in his warm clothes.
"Do you wanna talk about it?" He gently asked, combing through your hair with his fingers. You shook your head, "Let's stay like this for a while."
So he did. He gave you all the time in the world to sort out your thoughts and feelings. He rubbed circles on your back as you recount what happened back at your house. With a sigh, you tried to speak.
"It was my parents."
When Beomgyu didn't budge, you took that as a sign to continue.
"They thought you were the reason why I had B's on our tests, so they wanted me to stay away from you." You spoke, playing with the ends of his shirt.
He moved away from the hug to face you, "They wanted you to stay away from me so you can have good grades?" He asked.
You nodded, "Yeah. But even then, you weren't even the reason as to why I received results like that. If they think it was, then they're focusing on the wrong thing."
When your eyes set on Beomgyu, his eyes were already looking at you. Urging you to continue.
"The pressure of being good enough for them got to me." Your voice quivered. You tried to cover it up with a pathetic laugh, but you could tell he heard it.
He reached out to hold your hands in an instant, sensing that this was a hard topic for you to talk about.
"I feel like I'm trying so hard to be something I'm not. I can't do it. I've been trying all my life and it still feels so unreachable." Your voice began to turn quiet each word and you try to stop yourself from falling apart.
"You don't have to be another person around me. I want you to be you. I want to see the real you." He replied. You want to tell him that he has seen it. Because the only person you can be Y/n is when you're with him.
All the bottled up feelings, the repressed thoughts, it was all bound to be let out someday. A few weeks ago, you would've guessed this breakdown would happen in your room. Isolated. Cold. Alone.
The complete opposite of what was happening now.
And for the very first time in many years, you let yourself cry in front of another person. This was something you never would've done, but this was Beomgyu, and Beomgyu is not just another person in your eyes.
As soon as he noticed the moist in your eyes, he opened his arms.
An open invitation for comfort.
Something you had been craving all these years. Something you needed and have always wanted to feel. Something you received from Beomgyu twice today without having to ask.
You went closer and let yourself be ingulfed in his warm embrace. This time, the tears wouldn't stop flowing. No matter how much you tried to wipe them away, another set of tears would come out of your eyes.
Beomgyu does not let go. No matter how long it took you to get everything out, his hold did not falter. He would squeeze you gently whenever you let out a sob. A comforting hand placed on your back and on your hair, as he whispered words of affirmation in your ears.
You think it's selfish of you, having thoughts about not wanting this moment to end. But you bask in this feeling longer, the feeling of comfort that Beomgyu has to offer.
Everything is uncertain, specially in the world we live in. Few years after this, you could still be in the same shit position. Crying about what your parents have said without any regard to what you'd feel. Nevertheless, you didn't care.
Because right here, in this moment, you have Beomgyu. And you're certain that he's the closest thing to a home.

The moment he saw you that one afternoon,
All down and low, a hand pressed against the classroom’s glass? It sure caught his attention more than he initiated it. He was simply walking by after returning a few books to the school’s library, but this wouldn’t be the first time he’s seen a glimpse of you suddenly all gloomy. Fyodor is always able to catch your presence even in the quietest and emptiest of rooms.
"(Name)." Fyodor spoke quietly as he picked his limit to his words. He slowly glides the sliding door shut, trapping you both in a more private situation. But before he steps any further, he knocks on the door to alert you again — "…It’s me."
Well supposedly, you should knock first before entering. Fyodor knew that enough, but part of his heart just couldn’t shake the worry to walk into the picture as agile as he could, no matter how many times this would happen. So can he be blamed, really? It’d be a discomfort to see your lover all sad about something you know they won’t be able to voice out.
A side the same, but a bit nicer now
He wouldn’t want to pressure you, that’s something all can agree to. If you were anybody else then perhaps he might consider the fleeting amusement to your vulnerability — but you weren’t. And he was going to make sure you knew that.
"Come here." He whispered, taking a few calculated steps to your direction as he stopped at a smaller distance.
He was undeniably trying to get you out of the easy view anyone can take of in the window, but as he sees you thoughtless, he’d just let out a small sigh before taking his words for himself rather than repeating it. Normally would he find it slightly irritating, especially since he asks the same thing each time you did so by a window; or anywhere public really, but he knows being mad at you wouldn’t help it go away.
He kind of already knows what would’ve bothered you…
Because you are his important person, simply put. He wouldn’t have to require you to inform him what happened, even if it was something nobody else knew at all. Not to say he’s always aware of what’s specifically bothering you, but he will have an idea — a guess or two.
"It’s okay.." Fyodor says, his own school uniform making a quiet shifting sound to turn your attention to him slightly, his hands gesturing an ask for holding you.
When you allow him, he takes it as slowly as he can, wrapping his arms around your waist as he gave you a tiny smile. "You don’t have to do anything. I know what happened."
He wouldn’t also mind if you did talk about it though. Whether it be with notes or sign language. Bonus if it was your voice, but hey, he would never force you about that, allowing yourself to be assured by the facts that you weren’t required to talk. Your presence was to suffice.
Quiet whispers and gentle kisses
If there’s one thing he wouldn’t forget during the act of comforting you, it’d be kisses and sweet whispers. Public or not, Fyodor would try to give you at least a soft kiss. He’ll tuck a few strands of hair away from your face as he gives you kisses on your forehead, keeping his fingertips light and graceful — whispering you some questions that might aid you in calming you down.
"Would you like me to excuse us to our last period, milaya?" He suggests, to which you deny by slightly, and albeit reluctantly, shaking your head. ..Alright. I love you."
In amidst the silence would he warm it up with his touch, the seconds elongating into minutes as you also denied the realization of this moment to end. His soft whispers in your ears to ease and soothe you down were always his path to calm you, but if you didn’t feel like it, Fyodor always has his physical touch to help out as well.
Your acceptance to his hold would be enough
Since if you can’t find a reply through words, your actions fulfill the Dostoevsky more instead. Your body turning to face him would be one of his favorite things to see or feel if he was holding you, especially when your hands submit to take or press against his skin.
"There you are." He cooed, pressing another kiss on your forehead before pulling away, keeping the proximity intimate and comfortable. "Look at me, (Name)?"
"..Lovely. You’re so lovely."
Sometimes he asks you to look at him, and although it is also to let himself indulge in the pretty sight of your eyes; it was also to read your expression better. He’ll admit that you never speaking had its own ways for him to understand you, but it was never going to be difficult for him anyway. Nothing will be, especially when it’s for you.
If you’re crying, he’ll let you
Besides, what kind of boyfriend doesn’t? If he was holding you as you cried, he’d subtly tighten his grip on you, a careful expression on his features as he listened to your sobs, holding you close to him without a care now if people saw you two from the window.
"You’re fine now. Stay with me and you’ll be safe, okay? Let it out."
While it’s not easy to deny that he could be a bit irritated by the damp spots you could leave on his uniform, he could always wash them after class. His uniform has an easy fix anytime, meanwhile you always had a chance to lose that fix. And he wasn’t going to let it slip away.
If anyone walks inside the classroom?
Fyodor would just stare at them. Usually only when you aren’t looking into his eyes, though. Let’s say, perhaps you’ve had your head resting on his shoulder. The moment somebody takes a longer stare at you two more than should be — your boyfriend would simply stare back, his purple eyes almost threatening its own mind to glare, but kept his calm and quiet as he held you. He’d keep staring till that persons gone, to which, usually is the resort to his wordless reply.
Above all, you are his priority ^^
Whether the issue be something big or small, if it affected you this much for it to be involving itself in class hours, Fyodor will always be there for you. To him, having a lover like you is so endearing and special, like he has to protect you with what he has. And he pretty much does what he’s thinking of. Need for his touch? Need for his words? He’ll know, and he’ll give it with as much emotion as you could handle from him.

(gif not mine)
It’s not like you did it on purpose. No matter how hard you tried, no matter where you diverted your eyes, they always seemed to land on her. With her flaming hair and beautiful black outfits, could anyone blame you? Even though the two schools had merged into one, there was still some controversy and discussion about dating between Nevers and Evers. Of course, there were times when that was tested, such as the recent ‘Trial by Tale’ by Sophie of Gavaldon and Prince Tedros. Despite being an Ever and teaching kids about true love, you were a realist and knew the odds that you and Lesso would ever be something were slim.
You thanked the librarian as you headed out of the library with a stack of books. Unfortunately for you, the headmaster assigned you several courses to teach now that schools were merged such as Defense, History of Villainy, and Beautification. The stack of books was so tall, you didn’t notice a certain dean bump into you as you were about to turn the corner. The tower of books crumpled down, about to fall at your feet. Swiftly, you waved your hand to catch all the books before they landed on the ground. Setting them back into your arms, you turned to face the person and apologize. You were surprised to meet those eyes you constantly thought about.
“Forgive me, Lady Lesso. I didn’t see you there.”
She grinned, “I can see that. You have some fast reflexes there.”
You felt your face become warm. You needed to get out of this situation before you explode.
“Thank you, Lady Lesso. I’ll be going now, I need to prep for my lesson.”
The woman tilted her head slightly but nodded her head in understanding. She moved to let you walk to your classroom. As you were walking, you couldn’t help but feel a pair of eyes burning through you. Lesso stared at you as you walked back. She usually didn’t take interest in other teachers, especially Evers because most of them were obnoxious and cocky. You, however, were quiet and knowledgeable, striking her interest. She would continue to keep a curious eye on you.
Soon after, the school term started and you had students pouring in. This was the first year that students from both schools would be attending the same classes. As the kids sat down, you could already feel who was going to be the smart-ass, the lazy one, the “hero”, etc. You took your Beautification book out and started teaching. You could feel the boredom radiating from the Nevers, so you decided to spice the class up a bit. This year was a year of new beginnings anyway.
“Robert, come up to the front.”
The prince proudly stood up and walked up to the front of the class. You could feel his courage and confidence ebb away as you asked him to attack you.
“A-attack you? Professor, I don’t think I can-”
You cut him off. “Do it now, or I’ll be failing you.”
At this point, all the students were invested and the Nevers were chanting for him to do it. Everyone, including you, was so concentrated on the class that no one noticed when someone crept up to the door frame to see what was going on.
Pressured by you and his peers, Robert finally drew his sword and swung it toward you. Almost immediately, you formed a glowing sword into your hands and swung it to counteract his. A loud ‘clang’ echoed through the classroom and everyone had their mouths wide open. You took your sword and put it down on your desk. Sitting on your desk, you then explain the lesson that you were trying to teach.
“The class of Beautification can mean many things. Specifically from me, I want everyone to learn that beauty can be used against the enemy. When you have beauty, people will underestimate you and believe that you are harmless. For all of you, that’s an advantage you want to have.”
You stared at the entire class in amusement as slow clapping erupted by the door. You turned your head to find Lady Lesso smirking at you. ‘This woman.’ you scoffed to yourself. Dismissing the class, you move to go sit behind your desk.
“My, my, who knew the quiet Ever professor was so good at combat?”
“And who knew you were so good at sneaking up on me?”
It was at that point that the two of you forged a friendship. Was it even friendship, or was it something more? At this point, you weren’t even sure. There was flirting, sure, but it never went further than that and it disappointed you. However, you’d rather be friends with the dazzling woman than a stranger. The constant yearning looks of love and admiration were not missed entirely, though.
You loved Clarissa. She was such a supportive dean and friend, but sometimes you wanted to fling her across the room with the type of antics she suggested for you and Lesso. You could mentally hear her teasing you as you were bickering with Lesso. As if that wasn’t enough, she once locked the two of you into the library. Talk about stereotypical tropes. It was anything but effective though because the door burst open in a matter of minutes.
You were positive that this was the closest you could be to the dean and you accepted it. Clarissa constantly told you not to give up hope, saying that she had a feeling that Lesso had those feelings too, but you didn’t want false hope.
Feeling under the weather, you decided to help out with supervision for the annual Ball. You were deciding what to wear for the night when Clarissa burst through your door.
“Clarissa! What did I say about knocking?”
She shrugged, “Sorry, but I’m in a rush. The ball starts soon and I’m going to sparkle you up for the ball!”
Your eyes widened. “I’m sorry- why would you do that?”
“I’m sick of you and Lesso dancing around each other. Tonight is the night when you guys will get it together so I can finally have peace.”
You were about to protest, but as you opened your mouth, a stunning moonlight-themed dress appeared on you. As much as you hated to admit it, you loved it. When you spun, a sheer layer sparkled. Butterflies adorned the fabric near your shoulders. Looking down, you found glass slippers. You looked at Clarissa with a smirk.
“I know you’re the fairy godmother, but I don’t think Cinderella will be happy that I’m stealing her shoes.”
Clarissa rolled her eyes and waved her wand to replace the glass shoes with a pair of heels that matched your dress.
Time flew by fast and until you knew it, it was time for the Ball to begin. Your hair was in a different style than it usually was and light makeup was applied to your face. The cheery woman was extremely proud of her work. She raced down the stairs as you tried to follow her as quickly as you could.
—--
You gracefully walked down the final staircase as everyone stared at you in awe. You were like a glowing beacon of light. Everyone’s eyes were on you, but you were only focused on one person. You walked towards her as she looked you up and down. Clarissa was nearby and gave you the thumbs-up. You take a deep breath, this was the moment. It was now or never, might as well snatch up this opportunity. You gave a smile and asked the dean to dance.
Coming back from her shock, Lesso chuckled and dragged you to the dance floor.
“How do you always manage to surprise me with your beauty and talent?”
You don’t answer her, though. Like Clarissa, you were getting sick of dancing around each other. Screw keeping it the way it was, you wanted more.
“Are you-”
The dean was cut off with a kiss. Lesso’s eyes widened, taking a moment to believe that it was happening, but kissed back. Drawing back from each other, you smiled like an idiot and she had the same beautiful grin the first day the two of you met.

PRETTY MESS ♡ SMT
synopsis you absolutely despise matthew because he somehow always one-ups you. so when he has to tutor you because of your failing grades, you hate it. though, you start to notice features about him that make him attractive through these sessions.

some people are god’s favorite. one of them being none other than seok matthew; the embodiment of perfection.
great face, great body, and great personality. he’s adored by all and to say you were envious, it’s true. since everyone treasured matthew so much, you assumed you could one-up him in one thing, and that being grades.
well.. you were incorrect, seok matthew is annoyingly smart as well and that gave you more reason to detest him. if he wasn’t such an ass to you, perhaps you would’ve been less irritated every time he achieved a better grade than you but of course not.
he was an absolute asshole to you; never failing to one-up you every moment. he had all the cables, pulled all the right strings, and had everyone wrapped around his finger no matter how hard you tried to be better than him.
he was never one to converse with you but all these back-handed compliments he gave were enough to confirm the disdain was mutual. you constantly felt frustrated at how he always maintained the spotlight and refused to share the crown. inconsiderate prick.
you yearned for the attention he has, jealousy reeking off you every moment the teachers praised him for something you could’ve achieved if it wasn’t for his smooth chatters.
arriving at the classroom, you sat down waiting for the teacher’s arrival fishing out a book to fill up the missing time. matthew eyed you as you ignored all the commotion created by other students and concentrated on your reading ‘how could you read in this environment? he thought, seating down as the teacher arrived.
“i’ve completed grading your exams and i’ll be handing them out.” he steps to each table one by one, handing the papers that revealed everyone’s grades. as you acquired yours, you were horrified to see a big C- on your sheet.
shocked at how vastly your grades slipped compared to the previous exams. you were ignorant as your grades in chemistry last time were significantly high so you didn’t prepare that much this time.
“and congratulations to matthew for getting the highest score, again.” a proud smirk tugged on matthew’s lips. you scoff, mentally blaming yourself for not preparing better. before the lesson ended, the teacher pulled you and matthew aside.
“your grades are dropping.. very badly.. so i’ve decided you should have a tutor!” he expressed, smiling as he did tiny claps. “so why won’t i let none other than my star student, seok matthew tutor you!” the teacher’s hand pulling him closer by the shoulder.
you slowly blinked, processing the statement while matthew stood wide-eyed “no sir, i can learn by myself or have another person be my tutor?” you panicked, not wanting to be weak about grades, especially to matthew “ridiculous! matthew’s the best at this subject and you could learn a thing or two.” he beamed.
“sir, i don’t think i have the time to tutor someone who is very behind in their studies, that’ll somewhat put me behind too!” matthew voiced out, you taking offense to that. “matthew, i’m certain you can make some time for your classmate and you two could also work on ‘your chemistry’.” the teacher finger-quoted, emphasising on the ‘chemistry’.
“can’t wait..” you mumble under your breath. displeasure plastered on your face. matthew sighed “whatever, i’ll be in the library after school and only for one hour. i’m busy with more important stuff than your failing grades.” you scoffed, rolling your eyes before dismissing yourself.
your mind already filled to the brim from your previous lessons, now you had to be tutored by someone you loathed. you enter the library trying to find him “you’re late.” a voice belonging to none other than the devil himself pops up behind you.
“do you want to continue doing bad or..?” he raised his eyebrows, clearly annoyed. you ignored his comments, not desiring to interact with him. “here, do this sheet and do it quickly so i can see what you’re struggling at. though, i’m pretty sure you’re struggling at everything.” he snickered, sharply sliding a paper with questions towards you.
reading the first question, none of this made sense to you at all. he saw your complex reaction “first question and you’re already out the door.” he snarked, pulling out his textbook. these remarks biting at your self-esteem every second “you talk too much, it’s annoying.” rolling your eyes, huffing out. you had no choice but to endure this.
matthew ignored you and began to explain the details, but after a while those words became fuzzy and your eyes were on the verge of fluttering shut.
“alright, one hour’s up.” matthew stood up, leaving you and your scattered notes. this went on for the following week. to be honest; you learned to just ignore his mean words which decreased by the days as you didn’t give him the satisfaction of snapping back but as accomplishing so, you have absorbed little to no information. you are so fucked.
this particular day, matthew planned to give you the exact test to see if you understood even a bit. rather than sliding the paper across the table, he laid it in front of you. “i’ll give you 15 minutes.” the gears in your brain going full-blown, writing whatever nonsense you could into the paper. eventually, you gave up and handed him a half_done_half_empty paper. he quirked an eyebrow, honestly expecting you not to answer at all although your answers were slightly off.
“your answers are dumb but at least you answered two questions.” as per usual, he brought out a few notes and his textbook, explaining the same things that you couldn’t seem to grasp. instead of the free knowledge in front of you, your gaze fell on his hands, gradually reaching up to his neck, and jawline. his features look softer than usual and less tense. your intense staring caught matthew off guard. a bit embarrassed as you’ve never looked at him so intently.
he cleared his throat “is there something on my face?” attempting to wipe off invisible smudge. perhaps it was the lethargy from memorising multiple equations but you definitely weren’t thinking straight.
“since when did your face become so nice to look at..?” tilting your head to get a better peek at his jawline, your eyes meet his and matthew’s face immediately overwhelmed with heat. quickly packing up “i think we’re done for today..” he managed to let out without any stutters, pulling his hood over his head as an attempt to cover his bright red ears.
matthew seemed less tense (well before you did THAT to him) and less rude. the thoughts of his astounding visuals surround your mind as you thought ‘was he always this attractive?’ quickly snapping back to reality. this was seok matthew, someone you despised for stealing your spotlight. though, you had more problems than a failing grade now.
the following few days, matthew seemed jumpy, flinching at the slightest brush of your fingers, unable to hold eye contact. you on the other hand, just seemed more intrigued by the boy; wanting to learn more about him (was there a real person behind that arrogant persona?)
now repeatedly asking questions, even smiling at him. matthew felt stupid as his heart skipped a beat each time he saw you smile, something he’s never witnessed alone with you. he never would’ve admit that he started having feelings for you.
unconsciously throughout the days, the periods where he tutored you slowly changed from his most hated time to his best time. he began to stare into your features; your neck, your lips, especially your eyes. he wanted to wreck you for looking at him like that.
he sat down beside you for the next tutoring session, making an effort to avoid eye contact at all costs. this came off as odd because matthew would look at you when he was teaching to get ahold of your reactions to see if you understood or not. it bothered you how you couldn’t see his features properly.
“matthew, are you okay?” you ask, a tint of concern laced your words, it sounded as if you had a reason to care “yeah, do you understand this?” he asks back, changing the subject. still determined to find out, you continue “you seem distracted.” which he was; mind trying to erase thoughts of what he desired to do to you.
“i think we should move on to this chapter.” he ignored, pacing through the notes “matthew.” you touch his hand by the slightest, his breath hitched “you haven’t looked at me this whole time, what’s distracting you?” “you.” eyebrows furrowed at the sudden confession “what?”
“because you drive me fucking insane.”
heat rapidly spreading through your cheeks. he grabbed you by the wrist bringing you to a secluded part of the library, your back facing the nearby wall and matthew towering over you. sudden embarrassment from the position, feeling powerless.
matthew tilted your chin making you look back up at him, the smirk he had got you slowly loosing your mind “god, the way you look at me.” he says, one hand on your waist as he pulls you closer, goosebumps swarming your body, amused at the sight of you vulnerable under his touch.
leaning in closer brushing his lips against yours “they’re soft.” he whispers to your ear. your hands now on his shoulders, matthew delicately peppering a trail of wet kisses to your jawline, down to your neck. stopping as he reached your collarbones, shivers exempting your body.
whining softly when he stopped; at this point, you were just as needy as matthew, now gripping on the hand that was on your waist.
fuck it.
you pulled him closer by the belt, lips crashing onto eachother as butterflies erupted in your stomach, knees becoming weak. his lips were intoxicating, eyes shut but your unsteady breathing still audible.
the little gasps and moans that escaped from you made matthew feel dizzy, eager for more. his hands curling around your waist as yours made their way to his hair to tug it softly as he groaned from the action. there was no stopping from this.
parting away to catch your breath, a string of saliva following along as it connects to your lips. matthew’s lips were red and swollen, hair ruffled and messy from your tugging. his eyes glossy with a hint of lust.
this image of matthew will forever be engraved into you mind, he looked like a pretty mess. your pretty mess.

Hello! Would you happen to have any HC on when it’s the time of the month for MC?
Tumblr media
Hello lovely Anon! I’m happy to give it a go! My first ask, I feel a little giddy! (∩˃o˂∩)♡
Sebastian: Sebastian would be a mess, perhaps, even more than you. He hadn't had the 'privilege' yet to support his sister with this yet, or even acknowledge how much it can actually affect you, your energy. He would find you leaning against the wall in the transfiguration courtyard, desperately trying to get fresh air, perhaps alone time and will complain you're being boring today. When you stare him down, he eventually clicks on that somethings wrong and he questions you. You're pretty embarrassed, rather that you just don't want to talk about something personal like that, but he gets it out of you, he always got things out of you. Sebastian isn't grossed out, no, he just feels a little powerless to help and that stresses him out and so he has an idea. Dragging you to the ROR, he asks you to think of something cosy, a warm fire, blankets etc and when you do, Sebastian sets you up a little cave, tucking you away next to the fire. He then nestles in beside you, his warm hand resting against your belly when you request it or simply just caressing your hair. He would constantly ask you if you are comfortable, what else he could do, if there is something more he can be doing etc. You're just happy to have him there and although it doesn't help the pain, it feels nice being near him.
Ominis: Ominis would wonder why you've been avoiding him. You had missed your daily study date in the library and now he was a little worried, because you never missed your study dates. When he eventually finds you, in the kitchens, he questions you a little confused, wondering why you couldn't wait for dinner. You don't mean to snap, perhaps, mainly due to feeling embarrassed, but when he simply moves towards you, all you can do is attempt to play it off. That's until one of the house-elves brings you chocolate, perhaps as a gift for being kind to them, that Ominis grew extremely curious and so you told him. Ominis had no clue. He had no idea what he could do to support you, though he wanted to try, Ominis always liked to try but you simply wave him away, saying nothing can be done and its fine. But he never did listen to you, or perhaps, he was just smarter than you gave him credit for and he just knew when to stay, even when you said leave. Eventually, Ominis just lets you eat as he tries to distract you. He can't take the pain away, that much is clear but he can hope to make you forget about it and so he asked if you would like to move somewhere more comfortable. Ominis takes you back to the common room, thankful for the emptiness and gently holds you close as you both rest on the sofa. He places a warmed cloth over your stomach, this much he learnt, quickly asking a few girls in secret and feigning ignorance, they told him that much. You end up falling asleep to Ominis continually warming the cloth, while he softly pats your hair and talks about nothing.
Garreth: Garreth is a lot more inventive in this situation. You find him in the Potions classroom and despite feeling a little upset that he disappeared after you told him you felt unwell, you can't help but feel curious to see what he was doing. Nothing could have prepared you for what it was though and as you slowly made your way to his side, you see books spread across the table, labelled: PERIOD DRAUGHTS You look at him a little embarrassed and when you see him concentrating, his tongue sticking out slightly from his focus, you can't help but sit down and watch him work. You see, Garreth was never good at using his words to help him out of situations, if he thought he had upset you, no, he preferred to use actions and so he worked tirelessly, until the potion was ready. To say you were a little nervous was an understatement, but so much love went into it and well, if it sent you to the infirmary, it would have been worth it. It tasted sweet and went down smoothly and soon the pain in your stomach eased. You kissed him a lot after that and he asked if he had made it up to you for leaving, but you just kept kissing him, making it a point that he was to make more of these in the future as he laughed against your lips.
Amit: Amit is more logical about this. He would politely excuse himself for a moment and desperately disappear to find something or anything to read about how to help you. He would want to do it right, no funny business and when he returns with everything the books told him to bring, you can't help but just look at him as you laughed. Amit then asks you to choose a spot, telling you its best to not move too much when you're in pain and that resting will help and so you end up choosing the vivarium. He then sets down everything, secretly checking his book, to make sure it's perfect, before he helps you to sit down. You can't help but feel like he's treating you as if you incredibly sick, but it is sweet and so you allow him to do his best. Amit then nestles you in blankets, heats warm clothes for your comfort, brings you treats (after shooing away your beasts) and sits down beside you. He doesn't know if him being there will help as the book states it is best to rest while you can, but you pull him closer and lean into his shoulder, telling him you want him to and so he does. You end up falling asleep against his shoulder as he reads to you, reads anything really, he just wants to keep talking, a distraction.
There you go! I hope it's alright! ( ˘͈ ᵕ ˘͈♡)

Make Me Write: SNIPPET
Tumblr media
The people have spoken and the people want Jeff to be Steve's bisexual awakening! I now have ~1.7k words written of this fic that had previously been a vague outline in the back of my head. Full disclosure, though: the "awakening" part of this is going to take a good long while for our beloved Steve.
I'm tagging everyone who explicitly requested this for WIP Wednesday (I counted each request as 3 additional sentences to my total count). But I'm going to hang onto the asks and use them for future motivation!
SNIPPET BELOW!
The return to school is a rocky one. The worst of the bruising has faded, and Steve can finally make it through most of a day reasonably alert—at home, at least. But there’s still a persistent ache throughout his whole body, and the fluorescent lights at Hawkins High are suddenly audible in a way he doesn’t remember them being just a couple weeks ago. About halfway through second period he develops a splitting headache that only gets worse as the hours tick by, and he feels seconds away from losing a breakfast he didn’t eat.
And that’s just the physical stuff. Returning to the social feeding frenzy of a small-town high school stuffed with teens with nothing to do than stick their noses all the way up the asses of everyone around them after getting his lights knocked out by the shiny new guy… Max may have knocked Billy out, but Billy’s not the one who had to take a week and a half off. Billy’s not the one with yellowing bruises splashed across his face. Billy’s had time to fashion himself a little amateur PR campaign, with Tommy Hagan as his own personal town crier.
It’s not like Steve had any particular interest in continuing to hover at the periphery of the circles he’d once been the ringleader of. But with Nancy tucked firmly into Jonathan’s side, and staunchly avoiding his gaze, and without the blandly polite interest of any of his other “friends,” Steve is just…adrift.
And on top of all of that, somehow a grade 3 concussion has not managed him a get out of jail free card for the stack of problem sets, papers, and tests he missed while he was out. Steve’s not totally convinced that a couple teachers didn’t tack on additional assignments out of spite.
“Mr. Harrington.”
Steve freezes with one foot in Mr. Donovan’s classroom. “Yes?”
“You’ll be making up the test you missed at the end of last week.”
“Didn’t I also miss the lessons for that test?”
“It’s not my fault if you didn’t have someone to take notes for you while you were away.”
“Away? I had a concussion.”
“Yes, and I’m sure you’ll think twice before getting up to whatever nonsense resulted in that unfortunate accident again. But that does not change the fact that you have a test you need take before you can continue in this class.”
Steve works his jaw, tempted to pull out the ‘my parents will be hearing about this’ card. He probably could get his mom to kick up enough of a fuss to get him out of the test. If he played his cards right, he might even manage to rile his dad enough to get Mr. Donovan fired. But either option was a devil’s bargain, and Steve has had quite enough of hell and its denizens to last himself at least two lifetimes.
Steve swallows down a retort—if he’s not going to try to manipulate his way out of this he’s certainly not going to dig his hole any deeper—and crosses to the front of the room to grab the test from Mr. Donovan’s hand.
***
Almost all of the tables in the small library are full by the time Steve shuffles through the door right on the heel of the final bell. The only one free is the rickety wooden table near the back that has one leg about half an inch too short that always wobbles whenever someone so much as looks at it. Steve sighs, but he resigns himself to sneaking a book thin enough to wedge under the table leg off the shelf while Mrs. Miller is looking away.
A minute later, Steve is cycling through a large stack of very small books when he’s startled by someone speaking from behind him. “I’d go with The Awakening.”
“Huh?” Steve doesn’t even turn around, singularly focused as he is on making this table passably usable for taking the goddamn Chemistry test.
“The Awakening? Kate Chopin? Perfect profile for wedging under there.”
Steve scans the spines of his pile until he spots the book. Fishing it out, he sees that there is a small indent on the front cover that looks suspiciously similar to the shape of the table feet. Sure enough, it settles into place easily, and winks the wobble into nonexistence.
“Perfect, thank you.” Steve finally turns enough to catch sight of his savior. It’s another kid from Donovan’s fifth period Chemistry, but Steve can’t recall his name. If he puts his mind to it and casts back far and wide, he can maybe conjure an image of a darker-skinned teen sitting at the same cafeteria table as Eddie freaking Munson, but there’s a strong chance Steve’s just extrapolating based on the fact that the guy is currently wearing one of the silly “Hellfire Club” t-shirts. Not that knowing his extracurriculars helps at all with remembering what to call him. Steve’s never been the best at names and faces, but he’s starting to think Billy knocked something loose up there when he knocked him out (that’s basically what a concussion is, right?), because he can usually at least come up with some vague impression of a sound even if it’s off. His head is totally blank on this one.
Trying to recall the guy’s name just leaves him awkwardly staring into the middle distance, though. So when Hellfire Guy drops into one of the chairs at the table, it startles him into following suit. Hellfire Guy drops an identical packet to Steve’s on the table.
“You too?” Steve asks.
Hellfire Guy just kind of stares at him with a confused smile. “Why’d you think I was here during our shared class, Harrington?”
Steve flushes. “I didn’t really think before I spoke, to be honest.”
“Well at least you’re honest.” His new tablemate flashes a more genuine grin. “I was out with strep last week. Frankie grabbed my assignments for me, so I just have to make up this stupid test.”
Steve nods, pretending to know who Frankie is, and refusing to wish that he’d had someone willing to grab his assignments while he’d been out. It’s not like he could have done anything about them when he was sleeping two-thirds of the day away.
Steve settles at the table, and as he moves to start writing his name at the top of the page, he realizes that’s the perfect way to figure out Hellfire Guy’s name without seeming like a total jackass. He flicks his eyes across the table to try to catch a glimpse of what the other kid is writing. But Steve’s ability to parse other people’s handwriting is lackluster on a good day. Throwing in the additional obstacles of trying to read something upside down from a foot away and he may as well be trying to read French. He can’t get even a halfway decent look without having to strain himself awkwardly—which he nearly does, forgetting that the whole point of this exercise was to be discreet.
Hellfire Guy looks up to meet Steve’s gaze, and he looks a tad irked. “You trying to cheat off of me, Harrington?”
“No, no, I—” Steve cuts himself off, running a hand through his hair. “I can’t remember your name,” he says. The Steve of a year ago wouldn’t even care about whether or not he knew some nerd’s name. He doesn’t want to be that guy anymore, and yet he’s still right here in the same exact place. Only now he does care, and the fact that he can’t remember the name of a guy who’s sat two rows over from him for the last three and a half months is just embarrassing. “But I didn’t want you to think—” Steve blows out a sharp breath. “It seemed stupid to ask.”
Hellfire Guy blinks. “My name’s Jeff,” he says, without any hint of judgment or annoyance shading his tone. Jeff tilts his head and looks at Steve with an intent sort of squinting look. “Hargrove really did a number on you, huh?”
“Oh.” Steve hadn’t been expecting that response. “Yeah.” He paints a charming smile onto his face. He doesn’t want to talk about this. “We should probably stop talking before Mrs. Miller starts to think we are cheating.”
Jeff opens his mouth as though to say something, but then glances over the front desk. Mrs. Miller is talking to another student, but rather than call Steve out on his obvious deflection he just shrugs and returns to working on his own test. Steve lets out a slow steady exhale of relief and continues working on his own.
It doesn’t take long for the headache that’s been building all day to bloom into something distractingly painful. Even if parts of the test didn’t reference material that he entirely missed while he was out, all of the questions about stuff that he does recognize are about things he’s been struggling to grasp. The multiple choice section was fine—even if he’s not particularly confident he knows the answers to more than three of the questions, at least he can just guess and move on. But he’s thoroughly stuck on the segment of the test where he has to balance equations.
“Are you okay, man?”
Steve jolts in his seat and looks up at Jeff, who’s staring at him with what Steve takes to be genuine concern—as out of place as that should be on a nerdy junior whose name he didn’t know remember less than thirty minutes ago. Beyond that—what was Steve doing that even prompted Jeff to ask? “Yeah, I’m fine. Why?”
“Dude, you’re ripping your hair out, and you sound like a dying lawnmower.”
Steve immediately drops the hand that he didn’t realize had been tugging at his roots from his head, and flushes red. Maybe Billy punched a few holes through his filter while he was doing his best to cave his face in. “Sorry.”
“No, it’s fine. You stuck on something?”
Steve scoffs a bit. “All of it.” He runs a hand through his hair again, but this time to try to reverse some of the damage. “I hate balancing equations.”

Observant (Todoroki x Reader)
Tumblr media
Pairing: Todoroki x fem!Reader
Genre: Fluff, College AU
Word Count: 2,562
Summary: In which Shouto moves to the library to study, but it’s more than the quiet atmosphere keeping him coming back.

*Btw it's been a while since I updated my taglist and everyone's usernames I have are from like 2 years ago, so if you wanna be on it shoot me an ask/DM and I'll update it
A/N: Ok maybe I lied and this took longer to write than a week, but it's a lot longer than I thought it would be!
While I liked this idea in theory, once I wrote it I wasn't as big a fan as I thought. *sigh* The life of a writer... Always hating what you put out...
I hope you guys like it, it's more in Shouto's POV than the reader's which is different for me. I think it's pretty cute, and that's what matters.
-----
Shouto needed a change.  Studying inside an empty classroom or in his dorm room alone wasn’t productive anymore; more often than not, he’s started spacing out or having to reread entire pages of his notes.  It also didn’t necessarily help that his roommate this year caused so much of a ruckus every day - the roommate tended to have loud company over frequently, or he would stumble into the room in the wee hours of the night when Shouto was still studying - that Shouto's normally abundant patience had run out and he didn't want to sour their relationship by confronting him (Also read: he had no more fucks to give and it was getting on his last nerve).
Finding a replacement study space was the best decision he’d ever made.
Izuku took him to one of the school library’s quiet floors, the place he tends to study after class.  The floor looked cozy; among the endless rows of library books, there were rows of desks pushed against a wall covered in windows.  A wider clearing in the middle of the entire floor had a few larger tables to seat about six to eight students.  On the other side of the rows of desks were locked rooms that groups can request to reserve for a few hours.
Izuku couldn’t stand the typical absolute quiet on this floor, so he tended to reserve one of the rooms with a classmate after a long day of classes; the extra privacy was an added bonus.  Iida couldn’t make it, so the freckled fellow was grateful to Shouto for tagging along.  The duo settled into a room with concrete white walls and a simple table, a large plane of plexiglass the only view into the rest of the library.
Shouto didn’t care about the room almost feeling like a prison; there was enough natural lighting from a double window, it was minimalistic, and he was in the presence of a friend if he needed someone to talk to when he took small breaks.  He figured even if Izuku didn’t come with him every day, he could sit at one of the desks in the middle of the room with his earbuds in for a few hours.  A completely focused section of the library with no distractions, just what he wanted.
Until some movement caught the corner of his eye through the plexiglass and made him do a double-take.
A girl with hair reaching past her shoulder blades approaches one of the nearby bookshelves, the white sleeves of her shirt folded up to her elbows and a burgundy skirt sitting just above her knees.  The outfit alone earned a small glance from him, but what made him stare curiously was her actions.  She moved a few heavy tomes aside, revealing a much smaller one hidden behind them.  She plucked it from its place, opened up to a bookmarked page, and proceeded to twist the “bookmark” into her hair, making a neat bun near her nape, before walking away.
Shouto couldn’t help gawking at her receding figure.  She not only hid a book in a secret hiding spot, but she used her hair stick - or fork, or pin, he was too far to tell exactly what it was - as a bookmark when she was done reading for the day.  He’s heard of Fuyumi using everything but an actual bookmark to hold her place, but he’s never actually seen another person with such a habit.  It made sense, one would want to pin their long hair out of their face to read - Fuyumi says she keeps her hair on the short side because long hair is a hassle to control - and Shouto acknowledges how clever she is.  But then how does she spend the rest of her day with her hair down?  Doesn’t it get it in the way the rest of the day?  Going outside with the wind kicking around?  Eating with her hair all over the place?  Catching it on her backpack or her jacket?  Maybe he was getting ahead of himself and this was a one-time thing, she just happened to not have a bookmark and the only thing on hand was her accessory and something was better than simply folding the page down.
Shouto realized he’d spent a whole 5 minutes ruminating about this mysterious girl and her hair and her reading habits.  He’d just found a new distraction, and he wasn’t mad at it.
After a few hours of homework and studying with Izuku in the locked room, Shouto noticed the girl walking slowly back to the same bookshelf, nose buried in the pages, bun still in place.  The boy silently chuckled to himself as she stood completely still for a few beats, he figured she was just finishing up a chapter.
He suddenly stops short and his eyes widen.
In one swift motion, she pulled the stick from her bun and, as if in slow motion, the silky strands were freed, falling past her shoulders as she shook it out.  It was more satisfying seeing it all fall down after she meticulously pinned it up.  And of course, it just looked pretty.
In doing so, her glance catches him from her periphery.  His heart stopped as he quickly turned back to his laptop screen, already holding his breath.  He’s not a creep, he told himself as his face heats up, his mind was just bored and his eyes wandered and he just so happened to catch activity happening.  Simple.  It’s not like he wanted to see her do it again.
Izuku stretches his arms over his head.  “Yikes, I didn’t notice how late it was.  Wanna break for the night and come back tomorrow?”
“Yes.”
~*~
Shouto has come to expect the usual schedule of events: He would settle into the study room with his study partner and unpack as he waits for the girl to come retrieve her book.  He would watch as she’d expertly weave the stick in her hair, give a cute little head shake to make sure it was strong enough to hold, and then disappear into the library to read her book.  A few hours into his work, he’d wait for her to come back to her book hiding spot.  The most satisfying part of his day would be watching her pull the stick out of her hair and letting that cascade of silky hair fall past her shoulders.  He didn’t think he’d ever get tired of that.  On his way out one day, he snuck a peek at what book she was reading and inspected her hair stick.  It was a simple enough design, thin and gold colored with a leaf pattern at the very end of it.
Sure, it sounds creepy to an outsider.  But he’s not a stalker, he’s just a creature of habit.
Or, that’s what he tried to tell himself whenever he would accidentally meet her eyes and have to turn his head quickly.  Which has happened more times than he’d like to admit in a 3 week span.
“What’s IcyHot looking at so intently?”  Katsuki’s gruff voice alerts Shouto out of his trance one afternoon as he waits for the mystery girl to appear at the end of the day as usual.  “You’ve been looking over there all day.”
Shouto tears his eyes away from the bookshelf, clearing his throat and staring at his screen.  “Nothing, I thought I saw something.”
Katsuki and Izuku’s eyes darted to where Shouto was looking to find the girl retrieving her book as usual.  A smug look spreads across the blond’s face as he leans back in his chair.  “Ohh, I see.  You’re watching the pretty girl.”
Shouto clamps his mouth shut, not wanting to give the boy the satisfaction of being right.
“You like her, right?”
“No!”  Damnit.  “She just happens to be here every day too.”  He can’t stop the heat rising to his cheeks.
“Well she’s coming over here, be ready.”
As soon as Shouto’s heart lurches, there’s a soft knock at the door.  Shouto glances around to Izuku and then Katsuki, who’s smirking.  “Go on, answer it.  She’s not looking for us.”
Shouto wants nothing more than to punch his smug face, but he hurries over to the room door to open it.  He stiffens up when he sees the girl standing right in front of him.
Up close, she has a slightly rounded face, her black-framed glasses framing cat eyes and long eyelashes.  Her mouth was slightly agape for a split second before stiffly closing it to compose herself and stand up straighter.  “Um, hi.  I hope I’m not bothering you.”
Shouto closes the door behind him.  “No, not at all.”  He shoves a hand in his pocket to try looking casual while his heart flutters at being close enough to someone he’s been watching from a distance.
“I actually wanted to ask you a favor.”  She pushes her glasses up on her face nervously.  “Do you mind hiding this somewhere in your study room?”  She’s clutching her book to her chest, the dark cover contrasting against her white sweater.
Shouto’s eyes couldn’t help taking a quick glance down; the dark book cover contrasts against her white sweater tucked into her black plaid mini skirt ending just above her knees, the rest of her legs covered by sheer black tights and ending in a pair of black boots with a low heel.
“I usually hide it behind one of the sections of books no one reads,” she continues, pivoting a bit to point, letting Shouto glance down quickly to the black plaid mini skirt, sheer tights, and black heeled boots before she turns back around.  “But I figured someone might move it one day.  And I just happen to notice that you’re in this room every day at the same time, I can count on it being in the same place…”  She tucks a hair behind her ear and Shouto nearly melts at the way her voice trails off sheepishly.
Shouto reaches out to take the book she’s offering to him.  “Yeah, I’ll keep it here in the room.  It should be locked overnight.”
She clasps her hands in front of her and smiles at him.  “Thank you!  I’ll come back to get it tomorrow, promise.”
Shouto dazedly smiles back at her.  “Sure…  See you tomorrow, then.”
She gives him a little bow and walks away from him, letting him get a whiff of her fruity-floral perfume.  He stands there a moment to watch her, containing his excitement before collecting himself and ducking back into the room.  He realized his palms were sweaty when he sat back down and wanted to study the book cover.
He feels eyes on him, only to meet Katsuki’s shit-eating grin and Izuku’s eager smile.
The blond is the first to break the silence.  “Well?  What did she want?”
Shouto plays back the conversation in his head.  “She gave me her book to keep in the room overnight.”  She happens to notice me here… Shouto thinks, Every day…  Just like I notice her here every day…  “She must think I’m a stalker or something,” he mumbles.
“Oh my god.”  Katsuki facepalms.  “It means she likes you, you idiot!  She just wanted an excuse to talk to you!”
The clueless boy blinks, causing the blonde to groan.  “Why else would she come up to you specifically and not Deku?”
Izuku gives his childhood friend a hard look.  “I agree with Kacchan, she looked shy to talk to you.  Maybe you should do something nice for her and ask her out?”
When the pieces finally click in place, Shouto’s face turns brighter red than his hair at the prospect of the girl possibly being interested in him too.
“IcyHot’s got such a huge crush!” Katsuki guffaws, hitting the table.
~*~
“Thanks for taking care of my book again,” the girl smiles.
Shouto’s already racing heart squeezes as their fingers just barely brush during the exchange, rubbing the back of his neck.  It’s a regular occurrence, but the gesture never fails to fluster him.  “N-No problem.  I know it’s important to you.”  He coughs.  “I actually read a little bit of it this time.”  He thinks she stiffens up for a moment.  “I apologize if I was intruding!” he says quickly.
“N-No, it’s fine!”  She clutches the book to her chest tightly with both hands, managing a nervous chuckle.  “How far did you get?”
“Just the first three chapters, I didn’t get too far.”  Her nervous behavior makes Shouto sweat.  Did he cross a line?  She must think he’s indecent now if she didn’t before.
“Oh.”  She visibly relaxes.  “Sorry, I didn’t think you’d look.  I thought it looked too…girly for you to be interested.”
“I figured you’re reading it so intensely, it must be good.  I was just curious, I’m sorry.”  He feels his face heat up in shame again.  He keeps glancing at the book, not knowing if he should find some way to take it back from her or not; only adrenaline had let him go through with his plan.
The girl realizes the book feels thicker in her hands, the split created by her bookmark now a small hole.  Her fingers reach inside and open up to that page, eyes widening.
She plucks out a thin golden stick with a burgundy flower at the head, a matching chain tassel with a gem at the end hanging off of it.  “What’s this?”
The boy’s throat is parched and his heartbeat almost deafens him.  “I know how much you like using these sticks to tie up your hair, and you tend to wear reds and burgundy a lot.  I wanted to give you a nicer looking one that matches.”
Shouto almost wants the ground to open up and swallow him whole when she stares up at him wordlessly.  The girl finally smiles warmly.  “It’s really pretty, thank you, I love it!”
The boy lets out a held breath, the cold fear slightly leaving him.  “Oh good, I’m glad.”
She hands him the book to hold as she wraps her hair up and places the stick in the bun.  Shouto’s chest fills with pride as she turns her head to show him.  “How does it look?”
“Stunning,” he blurts out and his eyes immediately widen at his unintentional candor, earning a giggle out of her.  He hangs onto the wondrous sound and the way her warm eyes bore into him.  “Would you grab dinner with me later?”
She slightly tilts her head at him with a smile, sending more warmth through him.  “I’d love to.”
Shouto smiles back, his whole body relaxing and his heart full.  “Great!  See you later, then.”
The girl reaches both her hands to gently retrieve her book, allowing more contact to linger between them as she shyly keeps their eyes locked.  “See you then.”
As she walks away, the burgundy tassel swaying side to side, Shouto leans back against the door for a moment and smiles to himself.  He feels lighter now, looking forward to his date.  As he turns to go back inside the room, he briefly wonders if he should learn how to use one of those hair sticks; maybe he’ll get the chance to weave his fingers through her silky hair and place it himself.  He’ll get the chance to pull it out, eventually.

𝖄𝖊𝖘, 𝖘𝖎𝖗 (𝕽𝖔𝖜𝖆𝖓 𝖝 𝖗𝖊𝖆𝖉𝖊𝖗)

First fic of my masterlist and im IN LOVE with gow this has turn out!!! Hope you enjoy this one and the others. WARNINGS: SUGGESTIVE, PRAISE? KINK, TEACHER X STUDENT, and i dont know more.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Orynth University. One of the best in all of Erilea, known for its brilliant teachers, its library with all the knowledge in the world... Its ancient architecture amazed anyone. Its long hallways were decorated with old paintings, chandeliers hung from the ceiling in most classes, and shelf after shelf occupied the walls of the different classrooms. Everything about that University was magical.
You came from a small town belonging to Perranth where libraries were scarce and there was only one school and one institute. But you wanted more. You needed to get out of that small town, you felt like it was getting too small for you. So, you endured 2 years working in a bar to save enough money to be able to get out of there. In the end, you had enough money to rent a small apartment and pay the tuition that would take you to the UO.
After a year of waiting you were finally going to take Ancient Language. Before you came, you found a single book in the library that was about the Old Language, and you instantly fell in love. You couldn't find much on the internet, but when you found out that in 2 year it was taught as a subject, you fell in love instantly.
The first weeks for you were exciting and a little disappointing at the same time, because the teacher didn't have much idea about the subject and only read what was in the book. In the afternoons, you went to the library and researched and studied what was going to be in the next class, only then did you manage to be the best in the class. One day, you were waiting for the teacher, who never arrived. Apparently your now former teacher had decided to retire early, leaving you without a teacher... Or so you thought.
It had been a week since your old teacher decided it was time to leave. Since there was no teacher, most people decided to leave and then return to another class, except for you and a few others.
Your classmates were preparing to leave again when, without warning, without knocking on the door to see if they could enter, the door opened revealing the most beautiful person you had ever seen. People stopped talking, paying attention to the person who had entered. Whispers about who he was began to be heard throughout the class.
Her short silver hair shines under the light of the chandeliers hanging from the ceiling. His arms tense under hsi white shirt and his rolled-up sleeves reveal a tattoo that surely takes up his entire arm. And his face seemed sculpted by the gods themselves. You follow him with your eyes until he reaches the teacher's table. Young, but not your age. You estimate that he may be between 25 and 28 years old. Maybe 4 years older than you.
His green eyes scan the entire class until they stop on you. Your eyes meet for what seems like an eternity, until he gives you a small lopsided smile and then turns his gaze back to the class.
“Hello everyone, I'm Rowan Whitethorn and I'm going to be your Ancient Language teacher throughout the course and the following years.” His deep, sensual and masculine voice remains engraved in the depths of your being. “If you think that I am going to be like your old teacher, you are very wrong. You have come to study and that is what you are going to do. I don't want cheap excuses as to why you were absent, I don't care if the cat died. One lack of attendance is one point less in the evaluation, two absences mean the privilege of taking the exam is taken away, and three absences mean expulsion from my class. “I want justified and rational causes.”
The authority of his voice makes thoughts that until then had never crossed your mind about a teacher cloud your mind. Rowan was going to be your downfall.
__________________________________________________
Not only was he handsome, he was also the smartest teacher you had ever had in your entire life. His voice when he spoke in the Old Language was the most beautiful sound you had ever heard and your notebook was immediately filled with notes. Your companions were leaving one by one, there were a few meters left to reach the door when a voice sounded behind you.
“Miss Y/n, can you wait a moment?”
You stand up and, taking a deep breath, you turn around and head towards the teacher's table where Rowan is standing leaning on the table with his arms crossed, making his biceps tense. Keeping a safe distance, you say: “Yes, professor?”
A low laugh leaves his lips. "Don't worry, you don't need to call me professor or sir, Rowan is enough."
“So, what do you need, Rowan?”
“I have seen your grades, also your exams and your assignments, let me tell you that you are well above the average for your class. Congratulations."
Hearing that “Congratulations” come from him makes something inside you activate and you could only think about what it would be like to hear him say “good girl”.
"Thank you. The truth is that I have always been interested in the Ancient Language, so I always try to investigate and study more”
“Well, I'm glad to see that there is someone in this class who is so interested in the subject. Keep it up, Y/n.”
With a slight nod of your head and a small goodbye, you left the class and the university. Once in your apartment, you decided to take a cold shower.
________________________________________________
After that day you tried even harder in hsi classes, getting A's in everything, always keeping everything up to date, and there were even days when you and Rowan spoke in the Old Language so that your classmates wouldn't find out.
You were putting your books in your backpack when you hear Rowan say. “Y/n, I would like to talk to you in my office for a moment.” You nod and follow him to his office.
When you enter, the first thing you notice is the bookshelf that takes up the entire left wall. Right in front is his desk and next to it, a large window that illuminates the entire office. It's perfect, neither too big nor too small. You hear the door close and then the latch. You swallow, trying to calm the nerves that have begun to grow inside you.
Rowan walks over to his desk to put down the books and then sit down at the desk. You see how he picks up a piece of paper from a pile and you realize that it is your last assignment, which you spent almost a month doing and perfecting. He hadn't given them yet, so you assumed you were the first.
“A perfect job” he turns the pages “More than perfect I would say, in fact, right now you would be at the level of the ancient scholars” He hands you your work “Congratulations.”
You look at the note. The maximum. Without being able to avoid it, a smile lights up your face. “Thank you very much Rowan.”
“There is nothing to be grateful for, Y/n. You are a very good student and you have a bright future ahead of you, this is thanks to your efforts.”
A blush grows on your cheeks. "Thanks, I do what I can."
Rowan moves away from his desk and approaches you. The scent of his cologne clouds your thoughts and your blush grows deeper when he lifts your chin with one hand so you can look into his eyes. You notice the lust in his eyes. “I know you do what you can, tell me Y/N, have you been trying harder just to have my approval?”
You open your eyes wide. You try to move away from him but the hand on your chin tightens a little more and his other hand grabs your waist, preventing you from moving away. You hear the sound of your backpack falling, but you don't pay attention to it, because all you can think about is the man in front of you.
“Nothing about that Y/n, now that I have you here, I'm not going to let you go… I want you to answer me.”
Rowan moves closer to your lips.
"What?"
“Are you my good girl?”
Without being able to avoid it, you run your hands along his arms, noticing his muscles under his shirt, until you reach his neck. You caress the base of his neck, marveling at the softness of his hair.
“Yes, sir”
An almost animalistic growl leaves his lips before he slams his lips onto yours.

I. You, Me and Literacy
AU: Reader meets Gale Dekarios at the Blackstaff Academy.
This is my first fanfic in a long long time but I couldn’t get it out of my head.I named the character Andromedas (after my tav) but if you guys prefer for it to be y/n let me know. I hope you like it 💜
Tumblr media
Standing in the halls of the Blackstaff Academy was mind-bending. The word exciting couldn’t come close to the tight feeling in your chest. You wanted to leap and squeal, but alas, you weren’t the only student in the hall.

Busy students buzzed up and down on their way to the second class of the day. It was your first time in Blackstaff after waiting for years to be admitted. You stood in the middle of the marbled-floor hall, honored to embark on a new learning adventure.

“Delightful? … Galvanized… Thrilling perhaps?” You stood quietly, talking to yourself.

The air smelled like wet grass, and the smoke coming out of the Alchemy class room filled the wind with herbal notes. The tall, dark pillars that held the arched paver sand ceilings with delicate Celtic symbols kept you wondering.

"Rousing... mhmm" you hum until you feel someone’s presence beside you.

“Definitely rousing, the architectural structure is not only built to last but to protect itself. They have been enchanted with the most powerful magic, and we are just standing so casually under it! Did you know the Elminsters symbol can be seen here only when the sun hits the pillars at midday? Its just fan-" clearing your throat, you bring back the attention of this new-found stranger.

“Yes, I know. I must correct you. Elminster’s symbol doesn’t show up here since he wasn’t dedicated just to the study of alchemy. Instead, his symbol representing resilience shows up in the hall of ancient Arcane history and in the small windows of the infirmary." You reply with the pride of an honor roll student.

To your surprise, he doesn’t seem bothered that you have corrected him, as most scholars would. Instead, he looks at you with a recognizing smile and holds out his hand.

"My name is Gale Dekarios from Waterdeep. To whom do I owe the pleasure?”

You take his hand and shake it with a firm grasp. His hand was a bit slippery, but you didn’t think much about it.

“My name is Andromedas of Waterdeep as well." You let out a small laugh and stare back at his brown eyes; they reflect the rays of the morning sun artistically.

The sound of the bell tower takes you both by surprise and even makes Gale jump a little. Both of you nod and part ways, ending the interaction coldly.

You fix your hair on your way to the Arts of Alchemy, and a slight smell of incense hits the tip of your nose.

Gale…

You shake the thought away and concentrate on your professor. Every now and then, your mind drifts back to Gales beaming face and the golden morning dew that seemed so fitting to his character. The class was a basic introduction to the history of alchemy, which you had read extensively about. After all, you planned on becoming a sorcerer with a concentration in alchemical brews and enchantments. There was no harm in letting this handsome man occupy a space in your mind for now.
The next class was on the other side of the alchemy wing. Literacy was a course that included reading, writing, and the protection of literature. You hadn’t much experience with the subject, but nothing stopped you from being eager to learn.
Class wouldn't start for another 10–20 minutes; you hoped to be the first one there to get to know your professor. But he wasn't anywhere to be seen. Arriving at the classroom just a few doors away from the Blackstaff library, you see just one other person sitting down. Its just you, standing in the doorframe, and Gale, somehow reading two books simultaneously.
"Hello.” You managed to snap him out of his trance again. He answers:
“Ah Andromedas! I wondered when I'd bump into you again.” You wondered the same thing but didn’t respond.
With a surge of courage, you sit down beside him. The two-person desk seemed wider, but upon sitting down, you were unusually close. Considering Gale is a stranger to you, you shift your chair a bit further away. He notices his books are taking up all the space and starts to retrieve them. You catch a glimpse; the old pages seemed well cared for. One of the books had the symbol of the goddess Mystra, and it clicked. The fading smell of incense Gale left on your hand is Bergamot, used commonly by worshippers of Mystra.
“Are you a follower of Mystra?” The question came out a bit rude, unintentionally. Your curiosity was quicker than your decorum.
"Yes,” he says while setting the books safely in a leather messenger bag. His cursive initials were marked with warmth: 'G.D.'
"I'm sorry; I didn’t mean to be rude. I was asking because you smell of Bergamot, and I noticed the symbol on your book.” You blush from having to apologize.
“No need to apologize! Mystra is my goddess and the goddess of magic itself. I cannot deny her greatness. and how greatly she has blessed me.” If he had the chance, he would rant about his goddess until you fell unconscious. But more students walked into class, and the topic seemed too personal to share with the rest of the room.
Ignoring the awkwardness of the moment, you both fix yourselves from the relaxed posture into an attentive one. The professor begins to introduce himself and explain the terms of the class. The room is silent except for the sounds of scribbles and the ambiance from the wind playing through the columns outside.
“In the following weeks, you will be working closely with your desk partners. I exhort you to read the scrolls on magic resistance and books that touch on basic literacy protection. See you all in the next class."
The bustling from your classmates filled the room. After returning your writing pad and magic quill, you look to your side—empty.
Gale must’ve been quick to leave, which made you a bit sad. He seemed like an esteemed academic, and you looked forward to working with him, but maybe he didn't feel the same way. Walking down the hall to the library, you pondered about your deskmate.
“Maybe I was too rude... Why did I ask if he worships Mystra? He has an earring for god's sake!" You grunt in silent frustration and decide to go home.
Lost in thought, you didn’t notice Gale waiting for you at the entrance of the library. He thought of calling out for you, but you seemed heated with your own reasons.
He frowned and walked inside the library, a bit worried he might be the cause of your discomfort but still focused on his task.
“Surely I won't make a fool of myself next time."
You grumble on your way home, condemning yourself over your convictions.
