#i have been working on my personal definition(s) of 'fanfic' for years and i'm still not there...maybe i never will be

when it comes to the defense of fanfiction, i dislike remarks along the lines of "the divine comedy is just fanfic!!" not because i look down on fanfic, but because i want to acknowledge the unique merits of fanfic, because i love fanfic and fanfic authors and transformative fandom. every story is in conversation with other stories, but every story is not fanfic. there is always going to be overlap of course, there are similarities between why people create and enjoy fanfic and why they create and enjoy other forms of literature, as well as similarities in content and style, but this type of flippant response is SO common now and has done way more harm than good. you don't need to justify your love of fanfic by erasing what's special about modern transformative fandom, the solution is not to broaden the category. instead, stop letting people use the term fanfic as a pejorative. it's their loss, not yours.

Note
Not to harsh your joy regarding your personal project, (which does sound awesome!) the fact that you keep answering the "can I do fanfic?" questions with "technically yes, but have you considered not doing that?" does not actually *feel* very fanfic friendly. (Especially for anyone who enjoys fanfic as a hobby and isn't also an ofic writer. For example, I personally write almost exclusively character studies that are an explicit reaction to canon; there is no real way to write that sort of thing except as fanfic.)
Which is just a long-winded way of requesting that you maybe consider less of a caveat with the FAQ if you make one, please.
oh that was definitely not my intention, thanks for the ask! I think it was mostly just because I got that same question a few times in a row from various anons within the same time span (including some that were not published publicly), it just happened that I was thinking of my own project(s, plural now) in the last day when I answered those two, for those who want an extra creative challenge.
There's a reason my own original thing has been in my head for the last ten years without me actually writing it while I've written and posted tons of fanfiction, and even now some of my original works are going to be based on Arsene Lupin, so they'd technically be considered fanfiction since they're based on and use an established work for the characters and settings --
--writing completely original fic *is* harder, and that's exactly why I'm *suggesting* (not requiring!) that people consider taking 1 out of short story 4 challenges to look at their work in a new light.
90% of what I read and (until I actually start and finish my original works) 100% of what I've written in my life is fanfic. I have nothing against fanfic, otherwise I woudn't even be interested in creative writing.
But its also not a diss to say "Would you consider looking at your [fanfic] writing from a new angle and try to figure out different ways of going about it?"
Honestly, being able to even consider this option *as a fun extra challenge* is meant to help improve your writing and creative skills; it's not meant as a cheap shot at people who choose to write fanfiction because I my self write and read tons of it,
it's me saying "if you want even more practice at creative writing during these monthly challenges, try branching out a little bit from your comfort zone, you may be pleasantly surprised."
People who write and read fanfiction already have tons of creative experience, and if people like me and many other fanfic writers who one day dream of being published authors, want to broaden our horizons and seek new experiences, one of the easiest exercises is to take something we're planning on writing or already wrote, and see what we would change to make it brand new and standalone--
-- something that not only helps you come up with new ideas, but also will help when it comes time to *edit*, which can be, depending on the length and complexity of your story, can be a complicated process:
whether that means having to delete scenes entirely,
changing what a character says,
altering an aspect of the worldbuilding to fix plot holes
, re-writing your character so they're not overpowered because it was ruining the stakes and tension,
changing the POV of chapters because it was ruining the flow of the story,
etc etc etc.
I love fan fiction.
I love reading it and I love writing it, and for many people who take on monthly writing challenges, it is a way to test ourselves and gear ourselves up and prove to ourselves that not only can we write x amount of words, but it proves to ourselves that we are *capable of creating*, and for many creatives, that ultimately leads to crafting our own unique stories;
if you're already taking place in a monthly writing challenge, why not push the bounds a little bit *if you're so inclined* and test the waters? Especially when you're surrounded by a community who is cheering you on, every step of the way?
Every Nanowrimo I ever won was fanfiction. Heck, even not during November I once did 40k words in two weeks for a fic.
I always stalled out when I tried to write original works;
it is much easier to start small with a single short story than it is to try to write an entirely original novel, and my encouraging people to try baby steps by *experimenting* with one short story out of four in a month is not meant to be a diss against fanfiction,
but an *encouragement to those like me* who were so eager to write original works but floundered when I tried to jump into the deep end and felt disheartened.
Many fanfic authors aspire to write original fics, and thats who that challenge is for, for the people who want to write original works but are too afraid to fully commit; I'll still be writing and posting fanfiction even if I become a published author, even If I just have to come up with a few new pen-names to post them under.
There's absolutely no judgement on anyone who wants to write fanfiction for these challenges, my "caveat" as you say, is only there as encouragement to those like me who are afraid to take the first step, or uncertain of how to even *begin* that first step, not any kind of condemnation.
TL;DR:
I did not mean for my responses on the "can I write fanfiction" to come off as rude or looking down on fanfiction, its meant to be an encouragment to all the people like me who love fanfic and started out writing fanfiction, and dream of writing original works to take the first step, with a community of like-minded people all taking the same challenge.
Like every other challenge aspect of these events, taking a fanfic idea and turning it into an original short story is completely optional and meant as inspiration, just like following prompts for events is not mandatory, and even completing the 30k word goal is not mandatory; the goal for this month is to create, get in the habit of creating, and having fun with it!

20 questions for fic writers
thank you for the tag @rypnami <33
Tumblr media
How many works do you have on AO3? Seven currently! Idk how many more there will be but for now it's seven!
What's your total AO3 word count? 627,138!
What fandoms do you write for? Hogwarts Legacy but I'm more currently writing for a different fandom.
Top five fics by kudos? Passion || Sebastian Sallow is my most popular fic!
Do you respond to comments? Yes. I sometimes forget I have ao3 ngl but 99% of the time I respond to comments on wattpad if I can remember.
What is the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending? Usually I try to give happy endings to stories because I'm that kind of person. So towards the end I'll have something angsty but the very end will usually end on a better note. But In The Shadow of Her has a decently angsty towards the end because it follows along with the game and In The Shadow of Magic has is angstier towards the end for several reasons lol.
What is the fic you wrote with the happiest ending? Honestly--outside of my full fics, my one shot "Moving in" probably has the happiest ending.
Do you get hate on fics? Perhaps??? I'm not really sure. I've gotten a few off-handed comments that make me go "???" and any hate comments have been very rare.
Do you write smut? Lol nope and I never will. I'm okay with writing stories without it.
Craziest crossover? Ummm I can't really remember ever writing a crossover but me and my bsf would joke about Sebastian and Ominis going to a Jackson Wang party so?? Does that count? 😂
Have you ever had a fic stolen? YES ACTUALLY LOL. It was ages ago and I was literally like 12 y'all HAHA. The fic wasn't even GOOD but it was on Wattpad and got reposted on NovelHD. It was crazy for me to find out ngl. I didn't really care, especially cuz the fic was garbage (in my opinion now) but yeah LOL.
Have you ever had a fic translated? Not that I can recall.
Have you ever co-written a fic before? Yes. Many times. Me and my old fandom buddies from a long time ago would do it.
All time favorite ship? AAAAAAA. I hate this question because I can never decide lol. I don't really have a favorite ship but I do have some I like. I'm not going to say any outside of the HL fandom but I will name a few from my friends. @rypnami's Jamie and Jack have had my heart for so long <3 @morelikeravenbore's Aurelie and Sebastian. Ugh I just love them sm <3 @catohphm's Danny x Adelaide is SUPER cute and I love it sm <3 @keri-mcberry Keri x Sebastian OHHH MY GOSH. Keri is literally my favorite artist and everything from her is just so cute and adorable and omg I love it. <3 @boxdstars Amara x Natty. Super adorable, super funny. Props out to Natty for dealing with Amara. Love them sm <33
What's a WIP you want to finish but doubt you ever will? My old fanfics from old fandoms that have just been sitting on my computer for four years LOL.
What are your writing strengths? Fluff, usually. I'm good at Angst too. Romance eehhh kinda?? I've never been in a relationship so I don't really know how it works but I've written several relationships that I think were good.
Thoughts on dialogue in another language? I used to do this a lot actually. But I doubt 100% of it was correct. Now that I'm older, I definitely hesitate more with it. But I think it's super cool and I planned on doing it for my fics but my MC's first language is Irish (Gaeilge, Irish Gaelic whatever you wanna call it lol) and in the 1800's it was even harder than it is today SOOOO in order to avoid mess ups, I just used one-word expressions most of the time.
First fandom you wrote in? Oh gosh, I can't even remember. Maybe it was Merlin??? Spirit Animals?? I don't even remember cuz it was so long ago.
Favorite fic you've written? My favorite fic is probably not even and HL one LOL. But to keep it HL, all of my books have a special place in my heart and I really can't choose. Some of them have strengths over others and that much is clear but idk if I'd ever be able to choose.
No twentieth question - I LOVE YOU GUYS AND THANK YOU FOR LISTENING TO ME YAP LOL <3
tagging: @plxnetn1ne, @endeavour12345, @superconductivebean and anyone else who wants to join in and talk abt their writing! <3

There is no position that gives me a headache more than anti-anti fans.
Look, I get that "anti-fandoms" are annoying.
It is ANNOYING to post things about ships and characters and have people make assumptions about you based on your feelings about fictional characters.
I've had it happen to me. Hilariously, it wasn't even about one of my actual problematic ships, but because I had a "meh" reaction to the idea of pairing characters from the Umbrella Academy of all things.
But, I'll disclaim right now, I have plenty of ships that an "anti" could confront me about. There's a reason I don't always stay logged in when I peruse AO3. No one needs to review my fic reading history, including me.
So yeah, I get that it's annoying. And some folks take it too far. There's no excuse for threats or insults. Personally, I don't think this behavior is limited to antis, but as mentioned, I've seen some do it.
But I will always have a knee jerk disgust toward people who act like the very act of criticizing a ship or the reception of a character is the same damn thing.
There's some Bat-shipping post going around that equates people being disgusted by Bat-shipping to homophobia and real world oppression. And no, sorry. That's not the same thing.
I think you can definitely make the argument that moral panic can lead to some terrible decisions, particularly legislatively. Frederic Wortham decided that Batman and Robin were in a pedophiliac relationship, after all, and eventually we all got saddled with the comic code.
But, you know, we can still point out that IF Batman and Robin were in a relationship, while Robin was canonically 12 years old, in a comic book intended for children, that would have been categorically NOT OKAY.
Fans love to try to sidestep any criticism by equating their critics with some kind of censorship boogeyman. As though the average fandom critic has any kind of ability to legislate a form of media. Heck, disgusted fans can't even get AO3 to set limits on blatant extreme underage shit.*
(* Disclaimer: I respect AO3's very consistent position on content bans and censorship. I may not personally agree with every decision that they make, but I respect that it's their right to make it. My point is that the average "anti" has no real influence or power here.)
Here's the thing. If you ship something gross. More power to you. I do too. But you also have to deal with the fact that someone out there is going to say "Hey, that's gross." They may not be talking to you directly. Common fandom etiquette means that they probably shouldn't (unless you're invading the anti-tags, in which case, you're asking for it). But they're allowed to have opinions and say them. Free speech works both ways.
The older I get, the more protective I find myself of the right of people to be negative about things. "Don't yuck someone's yum?" I can yuck if I damn well want. I just need to remember that it's not your problem.
My own position is that fandom goes too far to protect the enjoyment of their largest groups, to the point where anything that could possibly cast a pall on said enjoyment is quickly shushed. We can't point out that a ship involves abusive tropes, because this is fiction. We can't grimace at the thought of an incestuous relationship, because that's judgmental. We can't point out hopefully-unconscious examples of racism and sexism because that would make someone feel bad and discourage them from writing.
I still remember how slash fanfic writers started bemoaning about how they can't possibly write FinnPoe anymore because they keep getting called out for racist tropes. The idea of actually making an effort to IMPROVE somehow never seemed to make it into the discussion.
Here's the thing. If I don't like a pairing, I'm going to say so. If I don't like a character (or maybe more accurately, fandom's treatment of said character), I'm going to say so. If I don't like a trope, for whatever reason, I'm going to say so. It's not my job to muzzle my own opinions to make random people on the internet feel better about how they get their rocks off. Why do you care what I think anyway?
Again, harassment's bad. But I think a lot of "anti-antis" are quick to equate "having a negative opinion that makes me feel bad" with an attack. Not the same thing and we all might be a lot happier if we kept that in mind.

THOUGHTS WHILE WATCHING GILMORE GIRLS: S3/EP4/ONE’S GOT CLASS THE OTHER ONE DYES (PART 3)
Tumblr media
This post is going to be a bit of a quicky. Scene: Lane's bathroom, where Rory is assisting Lane in dying her hair the color of Dean Forrester's balls. Purple. The dude's been waiting over 2 years to get past second base. Come on Rory. Throw him a handy. (Speaking of...the lack of Dean in this episode so far is making me fearful for when he may suddenly appear). Rory expresses her concern that using bleach in an unventilated bathroom might kill them both, but Lane is, like leave those windows locked! i want my mother to smell bleach when she arrives home! Because when she smells bleach she'll definitely think "Lane must be dying her hair" and not "someone is covering up a crime scene"
Tumblr media
My belief is that deep down, every Gilmore Girls character is a potential serial killer, and they all have one specific event that will set their killing sprees into motion. Dave Ryglaski suddenly getting sucked into the Male Gilmore Girls Character California Wormhole may just be Lane's.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
This episode's got the words "hell" AND "condoms" in it plus not one but TWO rapidfire pop culure references from the 1990's, and not 1973? We're getting bold and spicy in Season 3! Ole! The procedure goes horribly wrong and causes Lane tremendous scalp pain, so back to the beauty supply store they shall go in a few moments, where Shane has returned after servicing Jess on her smoke break. I really love the word "servicing" as a stand in for "blowjob", quite honestly. Per Wikipedia: Vin Diesel's birth name is Mark Sinclair. Sinclair began going by his stage name "Vin Diesel" while working as a bouncer at the New York nightclub Tunnel, wanting a tougher sounding name for his occupation. Vin comes from his mother's married last name Vincent, while the surname Diesel came from his friends due to his tendency to be energetic.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Why does that jacket make such a difference on Luke? When he takes that jacket off he looks super dorky, but jacket on, he looks pretty dang hot. More layers for Luke, fewer layers for Jess. One of the moots told me this event is supposed to be taking place at 4pm for an after school club, which is supposed to explain why L&L are talking to a classroom of teenagers while the main Teens of The Hollow are carousing about town, bleaching their scalps and getting serviced in closets.
Tumblr media
In my regular Post-Post discussion with @frazzledsoul, we discussed how Luke, I mean, Butch here, graduated in 1984, the year Jess was born. At the same time Liz always refers to him as "big brother", so she would have been younger than 17 when she gave birth to Jess? Even though the writers retconned some of the other Liz Lore established in 2x5 (like that she was married) I think it's generally accepted that she was around 18 when she gave birth and not quite as young as Lorelai was when she had Rory. This is what 80% of the fanfics about Jess’ early life that I used to read had seemed to share a consensus on anyway. So we discussed the possiblity that Liz and Luke may be very close in age, even less than a year apart so they ended up in the same grade, which is plausible, or less likely, they're twins, but I'm not sold on that. Lastly, it's possible she just calls him "big brother" merely because she's annoying and the drugs have fried her brain and she doesn't even know what day of the week it is no less how old her own brother is.
Tumblr media
That's the best part about Gilmore Girls.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The bleach appears to have seeped into Lane's braincase and she's delirious. She's not making any sense. I'm afraid there is no saving her now.
Tumblr media
I mean, this has always been Rory's typical expression whenever another person reminds her that she's supposed to be so freaking in love with Dean, but she's aware she's actually dating a pile of camel droppings while everyone else has their heads so far up their asses that they don't see it, but now she's got the JessSweats on top of it. She's in a real pickle.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
What is the "feeling" of dating Dean Forrester exactly? Is it that feeling Rory has been experiencing for the last 2 years, the feeling that there's vomit stuck in the back of her throat that is always so close to spewing out but it never does? Is that what you want Lane?
Tumblr media
This is one of the clearest views of the Quarter on a String I've seen thus far, and now that I can see it so clearly, it actually looks more like a dented bottle cap and not a quarter.
All this time I've been giving Dean Forrester credit for spending 25 cents on this thing when he actually paid nothing because he stole it from Lorelai's business competitor, the homeless man who scours The Hollow for scrap metal and change with a metal detector. I was thinking an after school business club at Stars Hollow High School where you had to listen to Lorelai Gilmore speak would be pretty sucky, but then I remembered the alternative is being not at school in Stars Hollow instead and that's worse.
Tumblr media
Lorelai Gilmore everyone, the Prominent Local Luminary. Beautiful handwriting on the chalkboard, did Jess write that too?
Tumblr media
Oh how I love 35 year old high school Extras. "You all know Luke Danes from his fabulous diner." Yeah, it's where these "high school students" hold their AARP meetings. Luke Danes seeing a room full of high school students: I've never seen any of you people in my god damn ife but if you want a job waiting tables at a place where nobody tips and I flout child labor laws and pay you in lettuce scraps then come on down and fill out an application. Also, my nephew could use some friends. Lorelai Gilmore, seeing a room full of high school students: Which one of you handsome boys want to become my daughter's stepdad?
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Yes, I have a question for Ms. Gilmore. After Crusty got you pregnant the first time, why do you still keep letting him stick his CrustyWiener inside of you again and again? Take your time I'll wait. By the way, did you know that David Sutcliffe recently said women shouldn't have the right to vote? Just putting that little nugget out there. What was surely going to be a motivational speech for the ages by Some Lady Who Barely Works At Some Inn is totally derailed when the 50 year old students keep asking Lorelai how babies are made. Despite her best efforts to change the subject, she fails miserably but for some reason KarenDebbie is put out by Lorelai's handling of the affair. I'm not sure what Lorelai was supposed to do exactly.

since i posted screenshots of that one sb fanfic (if you've seen that post, i'm so sorry 💀), the thought has lingered in my head to share some fics that are actually enjoyable to read:
(unfinished)
when i first saw this ff, i thought it wasn't really going to be all that good but BOY WAS I WRONG-
it was really fun to read and it felt like an episode of sb but extended and not in the typical sb formula! the last update was from april of last year, sadly...
oh... and the kids get kidnapped x
(finished (?))
one of the fanfics that i would read again and again is definitely this one! this also felt like an episode of sb too (if you minus the shipping stuff but i don't mind it). i won't blurt out too much information about this one, though... ^^"
(the ff is also on fanfiction .net as well)
the ezekiel ff - finished
the two lilith ffs - active, has slow updates
(edit: i'm so sorry but i forgot to say that the ezekiel fanfic has themes of bullying and s*xual harassment so if you're sensitive with these themes and the depiction of them, then i'd advise you to not read it. the author does leave warnings for their work, though it's best for you to read those first before you get on w/ the ff)
these three ffs are from the same person! the concept of them was really unique in the sense that they'd also include drawings too so it felt like reading a webtoon rather than your typical ff on wattpad
all two (or three in this case) are from the author's vision of what a future season 6 would be like. compared to the canon reimagined episodes, it includes even more mature themes and the kids are now in their late teens!
(the last one is a continuation of the second ff, if you were wondering)
(finished)
this could possibly be the oldest sb ff there is since it's from 2009. this time, it's not based off reimagined, but classic instead (given the fact that reim. didn't officially release its first season until 2011)
(finished)
gizmo, would you stop taking pictures of yourself? your owner's going to jail /ref
(just kidding, giz doesn't actually appear in the fic)
but i'm not joking when i say that chris gets arrested in this ff. there's also a homophobic woman that got chris arrested in the first place and joy gets ptsd yayyy 🎉 /hj
the only part i wasn't keen on was when the two animals came in but that's abt it /spoiler (?)
(there's also two pages, if you're wondering)
(unfinished)
this one was pretty great too! you'd probably realise that most of the fics regarding the kids also age them up to be teenagers
the ff is a continuation of the actual series, but the kids are now in high school and basically, chris gets withdrawal symptoms bc joy moved to another state
(the reason why i started this on the 2nd chapter is bc that's when the fanfiction actually starts)
(finished)
as you might've noticed, the ff is in russian. you might have to turn on translate so you get a rough understanding of what's going on
basically chris and joy are now celestial beings and they take care of these two children who they've known through the children's parents

fanfic writing, everything with a 5 or 7 ♡
5. What techniques do you use to create believable dialogue?
Oh man, this is embarrassing but sometimes I definitely say stuff out loud to hear how it would sound. 🙈 Keeping dialogue in character is like really important for me.
7. How do you handle writer's block or moments of creative stagnation?
VERY POORLY. Like I'm not kidding, creativity for me is tightly interwoven with my mental health, so when I lose my favorite hobby due to a block, my mental health takes a big toll because I don't have any other hobbies really so... I will often equate my self-worth to my ability to create something.
15. Do you plan your fics or prefer to let the story unfold as you write?
I used to just write without planning whatsoever, which I think was fine because I tend to get in my head too much about it, so if I just sat down and wrote, I at least wrote something. As of last couple of years, mostly due to my friend's influence on me, I've become more of a planner. So I definitely over complicate things and produce way less 😂
17. What's the most memorable comment or review you've received on one of your fics?
I can't possibly choose just one.... I cannot. Every comment is so special because there is a person out there who took time out of their day to compliment my writing. But I will say my most cherished comments are ones that like really dive into it and quote stuff and almost go line by line if that makes sense?
I also have a special place in my heart for @queseraone 's comments, because she's the most unhinged and my best friend and her opinion matters too much to me. So when she screams in the comments I know I did a good job.
25. Are there any specific writing tools that you find helpful?
I used to think a great writing app would fix my writing problems, but most of the time a word doc or a google doc works just as well. Again, writing can be simple if you make it so. I will say using Pinterest as a brainstorming tool has been fun!
27. What two (or more) fandoms would you like to see a crossover for? Would you ever write it?
Oh man. Okay hear me out - Lucy Chen meeting Erin Lindsay. My two faves. Together. I don't really write or read crossovers for that matter, so probably not. But the thought of it is fun!
35. What do you enjoy most about being a fic writer?
The community. Sharing my work with others, seeing how they react to it, knowing it might have made someone's day. Even if it was just one person's. Whining together about being too lazy to write and stuff like that. I've come to find most of the writing community is very supportive and kind and we all go through the same stuff.

Argh my Tumblr Peeps🏴‍☠️🦜 Today I have a treat for you😃👍I just have been requested to work on Captain Hook from Peter Pan🦜🏴‍☠️😁👍Since I'm open to try writing about Disney characters anyways, Captain Hook will be the 1st Disney character I will be writing about🦜🏴‍☠️😁👍And there will be smut in this particular fanfic🏴‍☠️🦜😁👍 So enjoy🦜🏴‍☠️😁👍Argh🦜🏴‍☠️🦜🏴‍☠️🦜🏴‍☠️
Tumblr media
💎🦪💰You Are Captain Hook's Most Favorite Gem, Sea Pearl, And Treasure, In The Whole World💰🦪💎(Captain Hook x Female Reader)
Genres: Smut (And a brief mention of pregnancy in the end) (Warning +18⚠️: sexual contact (that includes cream pies, fingering, oral sex (female receiving and Hook recieving), breast kink(s), dirty talk, unprotected sex, vaginal penetration, and Dom! (Hook is Dom!)) nudity, and Language)
Eversince the day Captain Hook met you, you became part of his pirate crew and you pretty much fell in love with him after you heard of him (which was sometime before he met you). Before meeting Captain Hook, you had a roommate who made you do everything she told you to do. You felt there was no escape, until that very day Captain Hook invaded your village. Once you saw him through your window, you finally realized that you can finally get out of the life, your roommate forced you to feel obligated to do for all those years you lived with her.
Once you decided to make your escape, you ran outside of your roommate's house, to catch up to Captain Hook. After both you spoke to him, you explained that he is your idol, why you feel you would be a great pirate crew member to him, why you wanted to join his crew, and why you wanted to leave your village to come with him. He felt bad and was angered about the treatment your roommate gave you, so he accepted your plead to take you with him. Before your roommate (who is no longer your roommate) was able to make an attempt to demand for you to get back in her house, you were willingly gone with Captain Hook.
Your life was so much better after joining Captain Hook's crew, as if it was the best decision of your life. Captain Hook, also has a soft spot for you, so he is much nicer to you than he is anyone else. You're just his favorite person, ever.
One night, you decided to visit Captain Hook's room to (office or room since his office might be his room), to check on him, considering he has been stressed, depressed, frustrated, and beside himself due to his, your, and the rest of his crew's most recent defeat against his arch nemesis, Peter Pan. You felt sad for him that he hasn't felt like his self, as of late. You will do anything to makesure he is his usual self, again.
When you entered Captain Hook's (office or room), as you expected, he was trying to cry himself to sleep, as he has been having a hard time sleeping. You then went up to Captain Hook to massage shoulders, as you then ask him, "What's been troubling you, Captain Hook? Is there something I can help you with?". He then vented his frustrations, as he said, "Well, (Female Reader Name)... I tried and tried to execute my plans... Sadly most of my plans have failed... Thanks to that, meddling, Peter Pan, especially the last time I battled him in a sword fight! I've been defeated countless times by that meddling, Peter Pan and sometimes the brats he has with him definitely didn't benefit with my plans one bit... I'm so beside myself to the point where I'm down, depressed, overwhelmed, and frustrated with the fact that I keep being defeated by Peter Pan and that same pest ruining most of my plans... I've been even getting nightmares about him to the point where I'm not sure, if I should even bother trying to sleep, anymore...", as he continued to sob and only you knew what to do about it.
"Well Captain Hook, I definitely know how to make you all better...", you cooed, as you stopped massaging his back. Captain Hook stopped sobbing, as he was surprised you said this to him. He then replied, "You... Make me... All better? Now how could you possibly get me to feel better?". You then got off the bed, as you then moved in front of him, touching his shoulders with both of your hands, as you then answered, "Well... You can always take your stress out on me...". "Huh?", Hook said confusingly, as he then finally realized the fact that you're completely naked.
This was Captain Hook's first time seeing you naked, as he then stares at your naked body, including your breasts, as your breasts are the best breasts he has ever seen. You even squatted with your legs apart to let him look at your pussy. Seeing your naked body as a whole has definitely made his cock feel, so hard where he realized, your idea would definitely make him feel much better and this definitely has given him alot of devilish ideas on what to do with you, as he smiled in, such a naughty way.
You then cooed to Captian Hook, "Well, Captain... When life gets you down... Whenever you're stressed or overwhelmed or both... Whenever you're depressed and frustrated... Or maybe possibly aggravated... You can take it all out on me, as much as you want...". He gently pinched and pulled your nipples separately with his right hand, then he went to grab your boobs (left boob before the right boob), as he replied, "I get to everything out on you by doing naughty things with you? Well, as much as I don't want to resort to taking anything out on you, my treasure... However, if taking my frustrations and sadness out on you is all those naughty things to you and with you, then I love this idea of taking it all out on you this way, my gem.", before he started fingering you, as he started to suck on your nipples, as you started to moan.
Once Captain Hook finished sucking on both nipples (and fingering your pussy), you decided to sit on the floor, as your legs got tired from squatting. Captain Hook then praised, "My, my... You have such an incredible pussy to play with, while your boobs are also amazing, as a whole, especially your beautiful nipples, which boobs are a kink of mine, and your breasts are so perfect for me, including your nipples...", you begun to lay on the floor as he continued, "The fun has only begun... Since I don't eat often, I might as well taste your pearl, considering you are my sea pearl after all...", while he smirked. They way he was licking and sucking on your pussy, was so amazing to the point where you had to cover your mouth, inorder to prevent anyone else to hear you moan, as you then finally cummed. Captain Hook, looked at you, as he was eating your cum, as he couldn't help, but notice that you covered your mouth, so stopped sucking on you as then he cooed to you, "Please, uncover your mouth, my gem... I don't care if the rest of my crew nor anyone else hears you moan, because I would like to hear you moan... And since I caught you covering your mouth, I might as well feed you, too.", as he decided to stand up and pull his pants (and boxers ofcourse) down to have his hard cock dangling down, as he then continue, "And when I get done feeding you, don't think that i will be done with you, yet... When I say I'm done taking my stress out on you, I will let you know, my sea pearl...".
You then got on your knees to start sucking on Captain Hook's cock, as he already used his right hand to push your head to get his cock deeper into your throat, to makesure to he is feeding you well and to show you that is the dominant one of the two, when it comes to anything sexual both you and Captian Hook do together. As he was giving you deep throat, he then praised, "I'm so glad that you're taking, my cock well, my dear... At this rate I'm about to cum inside your throat soon... It's not where the fun ends, like I said, my treasure...", as he then came inside your throat like he said he was gonna do. Once he finished cumming in your throat, he knew he was still gonna be hard, as you then laid on your front side. You laying on his front side, definitely gave him an other naughty and devilish idea.
Captain proceeded to grab both of your hands with his right hand inorder for him to have his hook around both of your wrists (which was part of his left arm), as he began to insert his cock inside your pussy. As you're still on your knees, he began to thrust into your pussy. As, he was thrusting inside of your pussy, you began to realize that he managed to put his Hook around your wrists. He did this to show dominance and so you don't cover your mouth. "You have such a tight pussy I see, my sea pearl... My cock is starting to feel warm inside of your pussy already... No matter how much more you cum I will keep my cock inside you until I say I'm done...", he praised, while feeling more relaxed, and ensuring your moans are heard. You tried holding your moans in, as he then praised you again, " C'mon, my favorite treasure, gem, sea pearl... Don't hold yourself back, if you need to moan, my dear...", as he trying to encourage you, as he kept thrusting faster.
You couldn't hold back any longer as you then started to moan in a whimpering sense, "Oh Captain Hook! Your cock feels, so amazing! Don't stop, please! Cum inside me! So warm!", as you started to get cock drunk to the point where you don't care who hears your moans and whimpers. Captain Hook then continued praising, "That's it, my dear, sea pearl... Forget about anyone else... The only things you need to focus is me, you, your pussy, and my cock...", as he kept thrusting faster, while you kept moaning loudly. The more (and faster) he thrusts, the more (and louder), you moaned and whimpered, no matter who else heard you. It lasted for an hour or so before he managed to empty his load into your now sore pussy, considering that your pussy ended up being sore for quite sometime before he came right inside of you.
Once Captain Hook, letted you know he is finished, he decided to carry you to his bed, so he can cuddle with you for the rest of the night. He then rubbed your tummy, as he knew you will be having his child. After that night, he is no longer stressed, nor beside himself, nor depressed, nor frustrated, as he is finally his old self and that's all thanks to you, especially letting him take every issue he has out on you sexually...
The End
I hope you enjoyed this Captain Hook smut my Tumblr Peeps🏴‍☠️🦜😁👍And as for you @disney-girl67, I hope you enjoyed this fanfic most of all🏴‍☠️🦜😃👍 It did took me alot of time to think on how to write this before and during the smut parts of this fanfic, however I did managed to complete this fanfic 🏴‍☠️🦜😃👍I hope you have a good day and/or night🌅🌌🌊⛵😁👍

bad buddy fandom getting-to-know-you meme!
tagged by @mahuhumaling and @galauvant, meme created by @fiercynn
note: i consider "fanworks" to pretty much everything people create related to a fandom, including but not limited to meta/analysis/discussion, gifs, fanvids/edits/fancams, filk, fanart, fanfic, fan food, fan crafts, etc. please include this note with the meme unless you have a different definition!
name and whatever you want to share about yourself I'm tpt! 30s, queer, brainweird, language nerd, been reading BL and slash and other queer lit since before the turn of the millennium and probably (hopefully) never gonna stop.
when did you watch bad buddy/join the fandom? I watched the first episode the day after it aired. Went in knowing nothing about it except the English title, which I thought was thoroughly unappealing, and the promo image. Came out of ep 1 convinced Paa was the only person with any sense on the entire show, but sufficiently intrigued (ointment sharing! Line ID shenanigans!) to keep watching. So I watched as it aired from ep 2, and when the bus stop scene rolled around, I blocked the airing time slot out in my calendar so I could watch live (which didn't work out for ALL eps, but … close enough). I did find a regular group to squee with after ep 5, but didn't really interact with fandom beyond that little bit of squeeing with friends and looking at fan art until after ep 9, I think. This was the first Thai BL show I watched week to week, and that also made it special to me.
favorite ship(s) Pat/Pran.
favorite character(s) Used to be Pran no contest, but Pat worked his way into my heart in the later episodes. couldn't choose now. they're all favourites.
favorite episode(s) I really love episodes 3-5 and 10/11. but honestly I love the show as a whole, and the episodes in the context they exist in. Except for the gun subplot.
favorite scene(s)  the opening sequence of ep 2! also episode 3 bus stop scene (and Pat's way of accomodating Pran in it), ep 4 sleepover scene, ep 5 Pat's realisation/the fight, ep 6 gate convo scene, ep 8 fight/apology scene, ep 9 hand-holding scene, ep 10 Our Song teaser scene and confrontation scenes, ep 11 affirmation/we got to go back scene and wishful thinking sequence, ep 12 bar scene.
one thing you would change about the show if you could I'd adjust the pacing of ep 12 so the fake-out is a smaller part of the whole thing proportionally.
what are your some of your favorite fanworks made by other people? It's really hard to pick. I love SO MANY. Even just the authors whose fic I list here have written more than one of my faves each. but let's see:
fic (missing scene): keeps me warm by unsungyellowraincoat (@isaksbestpillow). direct ep 8 aftermath exploration that made me ache.
fic (canon divergence): fight or flight (worth the wait) by jabber_moose (@galauvant). Ep 2 canon divergence wherein Pran is discovered under Pat's bed.
fic (AU): Pinocchio by aworkingprinter (@miscellar). In which Pran has an obvious, unsuppressable tell when he lies.
fan animation: international love song by @architectxengineer
fan art: this pic by @ thatgothsamurai was one of the first things I saw in this fandom in the way of art and it's stuck with me
(if you create fanworks) what are your favorite fanworks that you’ve made?
fic: the only truth that sticks (<5k, G) is my take on Pran's mother's backstory, told as vignettes from her school years. There's a lot I'd do differently if I wrote it now – not give her a nickname, for one – but it's nevertheless my baby; when I started it, I hadn't finished and posted any fic in over 20 years.
I had a collection of random language- and storytelling related observations about the show on twitter that I should probably copy over somewhere else at some point for preservation purposes.
there's an epic canon divergence that lives only in my friend's and my DMs and a back-up doc that I'm starting to think will never take full shape, but I love it anyway. There's also an escalating intimacy thing set vaguely pre-canon plus ep 7 to time skip that I've not added to in a year and probably won't finish, either, but again: love what I've got there.
a song that makes you think of bbs (the ones in the show don’t count lol) If it's a bittersweet love song I'm PatPraning it. But specifically: Tilly Birds' เพื่อนเล่น ไม่เล่นเพื่อน (Just Being Friendly) and pretty much the entire tracklist from the ON Thailand fanmeet, especially แดงกับเขียว (Red and Green) by TaitosmitH, แน่ใจไหม (Are You Sure) by Nont Tanont, อย่าใกล้กันเลย (We shouldn't be close) in Aof Pongsak's version, and ดวงเดือน (Moon) by Joey Phuwasit.
idk anything else you want us to know? I love this show. I love the hopeful ending. I love all the recurring characters (yes, that includes Wai and the parents), with all their flaws. I love how gently P'Aof tells this story – the way he approaches entrenched BL clichés, picks them up, examines them, and puts them back down: does it have to go this way? not for us, not for this story, let's look at how else this could go. He said he wanted to make a typical, an ordinary BL, and he did, and he didn't.
I love that I met so many nice people through our mutual love of this show. I love that we're still on the rooftop nearly two years later.
I love that there's so many sides of this fandom – analytical, transformative, curative, and everything in between.
I have completely lost track of who has and hasn't done this yet, but IF you see this and think, hey, this seems fun! and decide to do it, please tag?

Long-time pine Seddie
I was going to write this as an actual fanfic but now I feel like I'm never gonna finish it, so here you go the concept:
Eddie knows about King Steve and as much as he hates it, he also understands why all the girls like him.
Steve doesn't know who Eddie is... at least at first.
Here's all I had written till now:
Notes:
I'm literally at the water park right now and i felt OBLIGATED to write this istf if i had to ride the ride that my frs wanted i would have DIED
Eddie Munson wasn't the type of guy who would go to the water park at a quarter to ten. But there was a 5 dollar discount if you go before ten o'clock on a Monday, so here he was. Freshman year; in the longest swim trunks he could find, a tee-shirt and putting his sweat glands to work. If it sounded dreadful, it was probably because it was.
"Dude, why are we even here?" Eddie whined.
"Why are you complaining so much. You agreed to come after all!" Gareth said annoyed.
Jeff nodded "Just take off your shirt and maybe you'll stop complaining about the heat. Swim a little, try some of the rides. It'll be fun!"
"There's like... people around and stuff."
"And?" Gareth asked pointedly.
"No one is wearing a shirt Eddie, relax. What's the big deal anyway?"
Gareth shoved Jeff's shoulder "Maybe the girl he's been crushing on is here and he's embarrassed!"
Eddie blushed. "Dude, gross!" There was no girl. Him and a Jeff traded glances. This was the worst, change the subject! "Plus it's totally normal to wear a shirt!" Eddie tried to look for a way out. He started looking in the growing number of people someone with a shirt that wasn't in the act of taking it off. His eyes land on the lifeguard - some brunet guy who had his back turned to them. "See?" He pointed. "It's common."
Gareth only rolled his eyes as Jeff let out an exasperated sigh. "He's the fucking lifeguard." Gareth said "You know- you know what dude, whatever. Do what you want, we're gonna go hit the water slides."
Eddie would have felt a little bad for missing out on the time with his friends, but he was too busy feeling relieved that he didn't have to do anything. It was embarrassing enough that he had started school one year later than everyone and he'd been older since first grade. Now had to show said old and weird-looking body to all these people? No way in hell would that happen. He wasn't normal in too many aspects, he wasn't ready to be abnormal to his friends as well. How did this place fill up so fast anyway? There were way too many people.
He looked back at the lifeguard to give his mental thanks but when he did, he felt himself freeze. He recognized him. In fact, he had been spending the past few years avoiding him. (Granted - it wasn't that hard, considering they weren't in the same class, same year perhaps, but not same class.)
Captain of the swim team, the school's "star athlete" and girls' all time favorite boy: King Steve "the hair" Harrington. Tommy H. and Carol's lapdog. Disgusting.
Steve was the type of guy that would bully him for living with his uncle at the trailer park. The type to shove him in the lockers because of what he liked, whether it be music, or people, or other things. He was definitely one of the people who started calling him "the freak"... Well... Eddie had never met Steve personally, or seen Steve doing any of the things listed, but he was sure Steve matched that description perfectly. After all, that was his type of clique.
Eddie must have glared in his detection for a moment too much because Steve turned his head to meet his gaze. Before Eddie could turn his head and pretend not to be looking Steve save him a polite tight-lipped smile and an upward nod. The one u would give to the old grumpy man down the street that you've never met before. Or a kid that you've only seen twice in the school halls, which was the case for them. But none of that mattered. What did matter was that Eddie didn't want to be in "the King"s rance of sight.
He moved.
Eddie had almost fallen asleep on one of those beach lounge chairs, when this agitating voice woke him up.
"Hey man." Eddie opened his eyes to see Steve fucking Harington throwing shade his way. Was he going to bully him? Or kick him out? "Don't wanna wake you up but you're gonna burn."
What?
"What?"
Steve ignored the question. "The park store's open, go get some sun screens if you don't have any." He popped the unopened can in his hand and took a sip.
Eddie was too puzzled by what had happened to notice Steve had already walked over to his chair - looking bored as ever, scanning the area as if he didn't just talk to the one everyone treated like the plague.
Eddie couldn't fall asleep after that. Maybe it was because his mind was rushing with questions. Maybe it was because there was something in the way Steve slumped over his chair and occasionally blew his whistle to tell some kids not to throw the inflatable donuts or whatever they were called. Maybe it was the fact that he looked so... normal? down to earth? human. But the thought of the school's King made Eddie something uneasy settle in the pit of his stomach.
Three days later he went to the pool again.
What was he thinking? He wasn't even with his friends, he had no intentions of getting in the water and to top it off there was no discount so he wasted money he didn't have. That's right, he wasn't thinking. Unlike Steve who was a lifeguard just for fun, Eddie didn't come from money so he had to save up from birthdays or unspent lunch cash.
Still, he had to come again. Because, if not knowing why he couldn't get an annoying rich brat off his mind kept him up at night, his eye bags would keep on growing.
Eddie couldn't help but shift and look around for a certain employee there. With his Munson misfortune, he couldn't see Steve anywhere. He really wasn't thinking coming here like some weirdo to look for someone who didn't even recognize him. It was a bad thing that Steve didn't recognize him, in fact it was property for the better. He got up to leave.
It was hot, he was sweating and he didn't want to be here.
He absentmindedly bumped into someone turning his head quickly to see who it was. Brown styled hair- could it be?
"Sorry dude." the stranger said.
It wasn't Steve. What the hell was wrong with Eddie why was he so hell-bent on this asshole? That was it. He wasn't going to think about him anymore. No more idiocy.
This was the last time he was going to think about Steve.
That was not the last time he thought about Steve.
(I'll post summarized how I would have continued it later)

Thank to @bibliophiliaxvignette for tagging me in this
🍓 How did you get into writing fanfiction?
Sooo around September last year I read The Right Thing to Do, and then the Auction by @lovesbitca8, and then a million more Dramione fanfics. Pair this with listening to Taylor Swift constantly and the Draco and Hermione living rent-free in my mind started acting out new scenarios. Originally started writing a Dramione Hogwarts -era story but got really distracted by my WIP Timeless which was semi-inspired by @pacific-rimbaud 's Love and Other Historical Accidents -- 200k words, ~6 fic ideas, and 10 months later, Dramione/Taylor Swift is my entire personality
🍇How many fandoms have you written in?
Just Dramione idk if I would write in any others - my mind is v consumed by them so there's definitely not space in there for anyone else rn lol
🍈How many years have you been writing fanfiction?
Not years yet lol but I remember I was writing fanfiction back in October 2023, so since then.
🍎Do you read or write more fanfiction?
Definitely read more than write bc it's so much easier. The amount of time it takes to read something vs writing it is actually horrible. I also find reading fan fiction helps motivate me to write my own fics compared to reading published books as it familiarises me with the characters again.
🍌What is one way you've improved as a writer?
I think I've improved in that I've actually kept going - can't say that I've finished something yet BUT I was working on my writing for fucking years and was so pleased when I got to 70k words and now I've written 200k for Timeless in like seven months? Fanfiction helps a lot in that the world already exists so a lot of decisions are already made for you, which is what I really struggled with when writing an original fantasy story.
🍑Do you have any bad habits as a writer?
Not finishing things? I've gotten very distracted with other ideas. Putting off writing until 9pm, finally getting into it and then having to go to bed lol
🍉What's your favourite type of comment to receive on your work?
Comments that are insightful and say something about the stories/characters that was inferred but not explicitly said - like the reader has really seen what I was going for, that is really really cool. Also love it when people tell me they've binged read it. Any comment is my favourite comment tho
🍋What is something you've been too nervous/intimidated to write, but would love to write one day?
I have some vague ideas about other characters in the HP universe, Ron for example, but I'm nervous/intimidated about getting his character right. I feel like I really understand Draco and Hermione but other characters I find a lot harder so that's really intimidating to me.
🍇What made you choose your username?
Two of my favourite Taylor Swift songs at the time of needing to make a username in order to start posting my Timeless fic, gold rush and renegade both of which are super Dramione coded to me
Tagging anyone who wants to do this... @lotsofbeefs ?

3, 6, 13 [Paradigm Shift] and 17 [A Little Fair Weather] for the fanfic ask game!
3.) What are you planning on working on next?
I want to get back into my Arrow re-write and cover another couple of episodes. I'm also working on a Star Wars: Rebels AU fic where Kallus has been rebelling against the Empire in his own way in the two ish years since the Siege of Lasan, significantly altering how he interacts with everyone - especially the crew of the Ghost - as the events of the show play out.
I'd also like to write something for one of my existing series that I haven't touched in a while, but I'm not sure which one will grab me yet.
6.) Who is the easiest character to write?
Hartley's actually pretty easy for me to write, so it's a good thing I like his character so much. He's very different from me, but at the same time I feel like I understand where he comes from really well. I also like that he's got a lot of room for personal growth, which gives me a lot of space for playing with different character arcs for him. So I guess that makes him kind of malleable from a writer standpoint.
13.) What songs make you think of Paradigm Shift?
youtube
I feel like Rob Thomas' Someday is a good fit for the fic.
You can go You can start all over again You can try to find a way to make another day go by You can hide Hold all your feelings inside You can try to carry on when all you wanna do is cry
And maybe, someday we'll figure all this out Try to put an end to all our doubt Try to find a way to make things better now that Maybe someday we'll live our lives out loud We'll be better off somehow, someday
17.) Talk about something you like less in A Little Fair Weather.
So something I like but perhaps not the most?
While I like that the fic has Barry trying to move on from his feelings for Iris, I actually wish she was in there more. If nothing else to show, instead of tell, the differing places the two of them are at emotionally in their relationship.
For Barry, confessing his feelings and being rejected the night of the accelerator explosion is still pretty raw to him. But for Iris, it's something she worked through - including the guilt that she couldn't return his feelings and that was basically their last real conversation before he was struck by lightning - over the time Barry was in his coma.
I don't regret that the main focus was on Barry and Mark, since it's very much their fic, but it might have helped with establishing Barry's own headspace better. It's definitely something I'll be including in the sequel whenever it finally gets written, though Barry's going to be further along in getting over her now that he's got Mark - and Joss - in his life.

INTERVIEW WITH A WRITEBLR — @red-the-dragon-writes
Who You Are:
Red Dragon || Ne/nem/nir
I'm a 22-year-old Queer writer who loves horror. I've been writing stories since I was a little kid and come from a family of aspiring authors (all the way up through my grandparents!) I enjoy working in a deliberately stripped-down style featuring a narratively close third person limited point of view featuring an opinionated narrator, untrustworthy characters, and limited description.
What You Write:
What genres do you write in? What age ranges do you write for?
Action, comedy, fanfic, fantasy, horror, psychological, sci-fi, thriller, tragedy. New adult and adult.
What genre would you write in for the rest of your life, if you could? What about that genre appeals to you?
Can I say "horror fusion" haha? It would have to be horror. I really love getting to pull reactions out of my readers, and horror also lets me push the boundaries of what I've ever seen in fiction before without shying away from how what is new or unusual can also be uniquely unsettling. Plus- no one ever expects horror protagonists to be smart, and I like the lack of pressure required to just write characters being stupid, whereas in a traditional mystery or action story usually the main cast is intended to be smarter and cooler than the reader. I delight in using dramatic irony to build reveals up in such a way that the audience knows before the main characters do, and that works best in horror where it allows me to drive up the tension as well. However, in my actual writing, I like to fuse horror with comedy or mystery or some other genre to make it a little more fun. Horror- in my experience, at least- hits hardest when you can get the reader to laugh a couple times.
What genre/s will you not write unless you HAVE to? What about that genre turns you off?
I definitely don't like "genre"/happily-ever-after romance. I'm pretty firmly aromantic, and at this point in my life I find romance to be almost painfully boring. I find it really hard to write a romance as my central driver of plot, and even moreso when it's a normal romance without either action-adventure or horror elements.
Who is your target audience? Do you think anyone outside of that would get anything out of your works?
I'm not sure I have a "real" target audience. I primarily write fanfiction at the moment while I overhaul my original work ideas, so that's a start- people who like Transformers. A lot of my work deals with adult topics like sex and abuse or coercion, so my audience is also above the age of 18 and comfortable reading about that, or at least interested in some way. And from there... I'm not sure. Fans of black comedy who like to watch characters experience awful torment, I suppose. I find that a lot of stories in the same general vein as what I do tend to "shy away" from the edge or otherwise try to soften what they're writing about somewhat, and I'd rather lean into whatever I'm writing. Like a car crash, or something. If other people are talking about fenderbenders, I'm going to go the full nine yards and write about totalling both vehicles demolition-derby style. In conclusion, I guess I'm aiming for a specific part of the Transformers fandom, wherein instead of reading light-hearted stories they want something worse, but at the same time hardcore angst where the character never gets a break and it's all very miserable just isn't striking a believable chord, or they want the characters involved to have a little more agency over their life than just being the Character Things Happen To.
What kind of themes do you tend to focus on? What kinds of tropes? What about them appeals to you?
I like themes of power, coercion and control, as well as themes of petty rebellion slowly shaking off the yoke of someone else's coercion or control. I think nearly everyone in their life has experience with some authority figure that wanted them to do things that would have either been harmful or counterproductive, and I'm no different. While I typically turn this up to eleven in my writing, it's definitely coming from a place of personal experience- if not with the topic, then at least with the concept. I also really like themes of family - not necessarily good or bad, but always flawed in some kind of way. And I really enjoy playing with ideas that violate "the sanctity of the mind" in some way, whether it be mind-reading, spells or coding tricks to get into your mind and force you to behave differently, or having to share a body and essentially just be a mind working with multiple people to do anything. I just really like making characters work around problems that real people only vaguely experience, but are close enough to real life that the reader can have a frame of reference for it, and I think that shines through with all my favorite things.
What themes or tropes can you not stand? What about them turn you off?
My least favorite trope is probably bodice-ripper-style "rape as seduction" like you find in classic romance novels and/or a "perfect victim" character that is only ever acted on and never gets a chance to stand up for themself. I understand it's something other people like or want to see, but defiance runs in my veins, and it always comes over as hugely unrealistic to me. At the end of the day, I want to watch characters struggle up toward the light, even if they fail in the end; if they just sit down and die- or, worse, decide they're okay with this after all- I'm always going to walk away unsatisfied. I'm also not fond of fantasy creatures that are inherently evil. From my pen name and username it's pretty clear I like dragons; I'm also fond of snakes, spiders, centipedes, jackals, and wasps. Animals are never inherently evil and people are even less inherently evil, because you're able to much more easily communicate with them. If the fantasy creatures are on the other side of an ideological divide, sure, but I really am not fond of "ogre instead of human" as shorthand for "100% evil villain we can never ever make peace with." If a character is being given the kind of intelligence you'd find on a human and some grasp of speech, I find it really frustrating when they're just Super Evil in search not of some goal that can be discussed but just because Ooh Evil Monster. It feels both lazy and really frustrating to me, and has been the number-one reason I put down fantasy novels since I was ten.
What are you currently working on? How long have you been working on it?
My current original fiction project is technically a genre romance (I know, I said I'd never write those!) that deals more with poisonous ideology, religious intolerance, and genocide than actual romance. I've been working on it since roughly 2017, and at the moment I'm reworking the plot to try to zero in more effectively on what I want to say with it. For a little background context, my whole family is Jewish, and I came up with the idea for this one during the Trump Administration while I was slowly coming to be more aware of politics than I'd been previously. This story deals a lot with the anxieties of being Jewish in a world like today's, so I really want to make sure that the point comes across despite the many layers of abstraction and fantasy I'm filtering it through. It's a story that's close to my heart despite the fact that, frankly, what I -have- written of it not being very good because I wrote it when I was sixteen.
Why do you write? What keeps you writing?
That's a tough question. A large part of what gets me writing is that I have ideas in my head that I desperately want to communicate to other people, but I don't know how to make it work if I only describe them outside of a narrative context. But what definitely keeps me writing is the response I get from other people. I have been working on detangling this for years, but like many other writers on the internet these days, attention really keeps me going. When I was younger I used to print my short stories and show them to all of my relatives; now I post them on Tumblr and ArchiveOfOurOwn and show as many of my online friends as want to read it.
How long have you been writing? What do you think first drew you to it?
I started writing when I was five or six, shortly after I learned to read. I mentioned that I come from a long line of other aspiring authors; my father has been writing novels since before I can even remember. I learned to write because I fell in love with reading and wanted to make my own stories that were nicer to dragons, since I was a little kid and really liked dragons and hadn't yet found anything where they were the real main characters. Both of my parents were very supportive of this, which helped a lot, because otherwise I don't think I would have kept writing my whole life the way I have.
Where do you get your inspiration from? Is that how you got your inspiration for your current project? If not, where did the inspiration come from?
A lot of my inspiration comes from seeing other people fumble some part of a story and being convinced that I can do it better. I don't think this is terribly unusual, but it is a little bit annoying when I'm trying to identify influences or inspiration and all I can point out is things that I think weren't very good, or were good -except- for this one element that I'm actually riffing off of. Outside that... A lot of my more ambitious works in progress actually come from weird dreams with narratively interesting setups that I decide to run with, or random bolts of inspiration that hit when I see some random image and get a "vibe" to capture. For example, the inspiration for my long original project that I'm working on came from a dream; but the inspiration for the Valentine's Day project that I'm currently writing comes from my friend mentioning the movie "My Bloody Valentine 3D" one too many times when I was in a bad mood and making me want to write the worst valentine ever because I thought it would be funny and it had an interesting"vibe" to it.
What works of yours are you most proud of? Why?
Last year, I decided to just write a lot rather than writing things that were good. Turns out that this is a very effective way to write things that are good, but as a result it's all Transformers fanfiction. Regardless, I think the work that I'm actually most proud of is a fairly long epistolary horror told through emails about a character being brought to an alien planet and rapidly discovering that things are not as they should be and the planet is a lot more alive than it seems. It was a really lightweight project that I intended to kind of just take up space while I worked on a different thing, which didn't work out, but it wound up doing a lot of things that I think were, in retrospect, really interesting, and the character writing in it is some of the best I think I've ever done. At the end of the day I think that unusual formats have a lot of potential when it comes to creating stories that have some kind of unusual flavor to them, and I'm always chasing after that feeling of "this is the first time I've ever seen this".
Have you published anything? Do you want to?
I've never professionally published anything, but I would like to.
What part of the publishing process most appeals to you? What part least appeals to you? Why?
To be honest, the part of publishing that most appeals to me is the part where I get paid and can go to my relatives and tell them that I got published by an actual publisher and now I have a real book out. The part that least appeals to me is every other part of publishing. It's always sounded like a major hassle and a giant pain in the ass to me (when I was growing up, my father was constantly sending his books out to publishers, and so far has still never been published) but, at the same time, I'd love to be the first person in my family to have a book published by Tor or Hachette or some other real-deal imprint.
What part of the writing process most appeals to you? What part is least appealing?
The part of the writing process that most appeals to me is the part where I've written something cool and I can show it to other people. I also really like getting to write horror sequences or fight scenes, but my favorite part is basically just asking for a beta or getting to share the finished work. The least appealing part of writing for me is definitely editing. In order to get around my dislike for editing, I've gotten to the point where instead of actually doing regular edits, I literally just rewrite the entire story using the first draft as an outline. This takes forever and it's not very fun either, but it's better than going through line by line and trying to figure out which parts are good and which ones aren't. I have never gotten the chance to work with a professional editor before, and I imagine the experience is different when somebody else is doing the editing for you, but as it stands I hate editing my own work.
Do you have a writing process? Do you have an ideal setup? Do you write in pure chaos? Talk about your process a bit.
I absolutely write in pure chaos. The only thing I need to make sure that I can write is a warm drink - tea or coffee- and music I like playing. I've discovered that one of my favorite places to write is outdoors in the middle of the night over the summer, but I can and will write anywhere. I'll be writing in my college classes later today. Then I'll come home and sit on my bed and write some more. And then, historically speaking, I'll go out and I'll write on my phone while sitting in the back of a bar or something, and I'll come home and write in the kitchen while my dinner's cooking. I pretty much never stop writing when I've got an idea in my head. I write on vacation, while at the grocery store, when I'm supposed to be working, and every other time besides.
Your Thoughts on Writeblr:
How long have you been a writeblr? What inspired you to join the community?
I've been a writeblr for about three or four years these days. I really joined the community around 2020, when during quarantine lockdowns I decided to write an alternate universe take on the backstory of one of the characters that I have in my long-term novel project because I didn't want to work on that. I wound up joining regular so that I had some kind of community to talk about that wip in, and I've stuck around ever since. I've been tangential to writeblr since well before that, though- I love seeing writing on tumblr and I really enjoy original fiction.
Shout out some of your favorite writeblrs. How did you find them and what made you want to follow them?
Natalie Ironside - @natalieironside - writes a lot of trans-focused action stories that appeal to me both as a trans individual and a person who likes action. Her protagonists are often characters who don't necessarily wield a ton of institutional power but fight for what they want and what they deserve regardless. Ezra - @doikayt - another Jewish writer, which I appreciate, but also every part of their writing I've seen is really cool. Speculative fiction is a favorite genre for me, even though it's one I don't often write in myself. Jax Wolff - @blind-the-winds - a writeblr I'm newer to following but really like, they post some really interesting snippets and do a lot of tag games.
What is your favorite part about writeblr?
Definitely the interactive aspect. If you interact with writeblr, writeblr will interact with you. I love attention and I love getting to see other people's writing, so this is perfect for me.
What do you think writeblr could improve on? How do you think we can go about doing so?
Writeblr has a bigotry issue. It happens. In any community where people are showing up to share their creations without someone at the door vetting them when they come through, there will be people who are bigoted or who have biases that they have not vetted. It's something that most marginalized individuals, myself included, have already come to expect from most online communities. However, because writeblr is an interconnected and highly interactive community, when issues of antisemitism or Islamophobia or racism or sexism or homophobia come up, it's almost impossible to avoid seeing it and it's very frustrating that everyone seems to feel the need to jump in and defend their friends if they believe that the bigotry wasn't poorly intended or it was accidental. I don't want to be trapped in and on ending chamber of "hey, look how antisemitic/Islamophobic/racist/homophobic/otherwise hateful this writer is" for however long the issue is being brought up- it's emotionally taxing- and I know that other marginalized writeblrs who do the hard work and speak out against people who are being bigoted tend to see much more aggressive and, frankly, bigoted backlash than the people they're speaking to or about. I don't know how to fix this, because it's an issue basically everywhere, and if there was a fix for it I'm sure someone would have mentioned it already. But I would like to see more support for a: marginalized writers in the writeblr space, and b: those of us who would like to disengage from the topic after a short period of time. At the end of the day, I'd like writeblr to be a space where writers of all stripes can spend their time- not only cis, straight, white, Christian, abled writers. A lot of how people pitched writeblr to me when I was thinking about joining in was on the idea that Tumblr is a place with less of the traditional barriers of entry than traditional publishing, but if the bigotry issue runs unchecked, eventually it will just be a space with the same kind of demographics as traditional publishing.
How do you contribute to the writeblr community? Do you think you could be doing more?
I don't really contribute much. I play tag games sometimes and I occasionally make advice posts after I found something that works for myself. I could certainly be doing more, but honestly, I'm kind of lazy and I don't really have that much to say, so on the advice front I've kind of made all the posts I have to make already, and I'm not terribly well suited for running events or communities. I'm much more happy to be a person in the background and a leader in the forefront here.
What kinds of posts do you most like to interact with?
I like reading short snippets- in the range of 100-1000 words- and I enjoy interacting with interactive games, like a tag games or ask games. I think my favorite kind of post would have to be tag games where we share short snippets of our wips- the best of both worlds.
What kind of posts do you most like to make?
I like to share snippets of my work. This is probably the easiest for me to do, because all I have to do is copy blocks of text and paste them into tumblr.
Finally, anywhere else online we may be able to find you?
My main Tumblr is @bitegore :D
Questions For Fun:
What is your favorite dragon-related story? What makes it your favorite?
For my favorite dragon-related story I had to split this question into two parts, because I read so many books with dragons in it that I can't help but differentiate between stories where dragons are people and stories where dragons are very intelligent and scary animals. The first dragon story i want to talk about is the Heartstrikers series by Rachel Aaron, an urban fantasy novel following the Only Nice Dragon after he gets kicked out of his home for being too nice and therefore disappointing the family. It's been a big inspiration for how I write since I first read it when I was fifteen; the idea of a protagonist not taking the two options set out for them but making their own choice, the idea of a world where magic and modern society and technology blend and interact, and different social modes of interaction and how they might not seem as useful as they wind up being (aka; the power of friendship, treated more seriously, lol) all really compel me and I enjoy Aaron's storytelling a lot. The only reason I wouldn't necessarily consider this a "final" answer is because, like a lot of other urban fantasy novels, the dragons in this are shapeshifters and the protagonist spends most of his time in a human form. The other one I could probably talk about would be the Dragonriders of Pern series, which I'm really due for a reread of. Pern is one of those series that I read as a kid that rocked my whole world. Not only is it about dragons, which I love- but it's also one of the early sci-fi fantasy stories where the genre was still finding its feet, and much like other stories in the same vein from the same time, the slow reveal of the sci-fi elements underpinning the fantasy absolutely fascinated me when I was a kid and still do for me now. The things I like about both series are different, but one of my favorite things is when dragons are treated as neutral parts of the world or positive ones, rather than uniquely evil monsters. I think I mentioned that that was a trope I don't like very much, and while it can be done well- Maur from The Hero and the Crown by Robin McKinley is a great example of a dragon so evil that even killing him doesn't solve the problem, and that's another favorite book of mine- it really delights me when instead dragons are just there, for better or worse. And while the worldbuilding in both books is very different, with enormously different styles and aesthetic trappings and social structures, both put a lot of work into crafting a world that feels believable, which is another thing I really enjoy in my stories and which makes these two beat out a lot of other narratives where dragons are more of a unique rarity or an aberration upon the face of the world they're in. And, finally… I just think they're cool. They're stories that both do things that, at least when I read them, I hadn't seen before. The stylistic trappings of fantasy and science fiction from the late 60s and early 70s, like Pern is, are very different from modern genre conventions, which makes the experience fun and novel for me as someone who was born in the early 2000s, and Heartstrikers- an urban fantasy speculative-fiction novel set in Detroit with an unusual spin on a "standard" magic system and very interesting legal setup- also felt like a breath of fresh air when I first read it.
Who is your favorite Transformer?
My favorite Transformer would have to be Vortex. He's interesting- a violent bad guy character who also manages to be nonchalant and amused almost every time he's on-screen. And, of course, it doesn't hurt that I think his design is really cool. A big robot with swords on his back that he uses to fly with? That's cool and I love it.
What is your favorite piece of horror-flavored media? Why?
It's hard for me to answer this question. My default is to answer with the horror movie I like best- Us by Jordan Peele, a movie so incredibly well-paced I have genuinely never seen the like before or since- but that's just straight-away horror. Down The Rabbit Hole by hypnoticwriter, a work referencing the Mystery Flesh Pit project by Trevor Roberts, is also really good, but the line between thriller and horror is indistinct at best, and usually when I say "horror-flavored", I mean that horror elements have been thrown in for seasoning and spice rather than consuming the tone of the work and changing the genre entirely. I think for this question I'm going to go with Transformers, actually. In terms of genre, the All Hail Megatron story is closer to a disaster survival story with action elements than horror. It tells a story about the Autobots being nearly defeated and the Earth being taken over by the Decepticons. But many scenes are paced and written like horror. Dangerous monsters are hunting the surviving Autobots, fuel is running out... and on Earth, the Decepticons see humans as vermin or playthings. It's a really fun series and one I really enjoy.

I wasn’t sure if you were still doing the questions for author—but I wanted to inquire about #2 and #11 🤗🤗🤗
Also I hope that your weekend helped you recharge my friend 🤘🏻
Ahhh yes! Hi, friend!! Anyone can feel free to ask me more questions from that post here! It's fun to still focus on these fics in some way even if my brain just doesn't want to write this weekend. And thank you! 💕 It was a bit more relaxing than my weekdays go fortunately, but it was unfortunately a short and busy weekend for me. Though next weekend shows a promising outlook for me to focus and relax at least! 😆 And as I've been doing with these since my responses are always so damn long, my answers are below the cut for those interested!
2. Do you consider yourself a writer? Why or not?
It’s funny because I used to view writing fanfic as something that technically was writing, but I didn’t necessarily view myself as a writer back in the day (like years ago when I first began writing fic). But I think that’s just because there’s generally been this negative view around writing fanfiction as opposed to writing entirely original content that you’re trying to publish. But looking back on that viewpoint now, it makes no sense. I definitely consider myself–and everyone else who writes fanfic–writers. We might be playing in a sandbox with some tools that others have given to us to play with, but we’re all crafting something different with those tools. Making our own unique content from it–which is the beauty of fanfic. There is literally so much creativity and love in fanfiction and I’ve read vastly better fics than I have published works, personally. And I also believe writing fanfiction is a fantastic way to improve writing and story-telling skills. I’ve certainly grown in my plot-writing, character development, dialogue and descriptions, etc. through writing fanfic.
And I’ve written and published almost 1.1 million words over on AO3 in just over a year. So yeah, I’d tell younger me that I am in fact a writer 😆
11. What attracted you to the fandom(s)/media you write in?
This question is a bit more difficult for me to put into words an answer to, but I was drawn to Matt’s character as a whole when it comes to the Daredevil fandom. Like yes, the man is attractive and the whole wounded puppy thing gets to me, but there’s so much depth to Matt and I really love exploring that. He’s often struggling with so much internal conflict and past trauma, even struggling with letting people get and stay close to him. Though honestly, a lot of that’s also true of Michael Kinsella in Kin and Frank Castle from Punisher, too.
So besides finding them physically attractive (I mean obviously), I think I was pulled to these fandoms for the characters. I'm drawn to that internal struggle/battle within themselves and the individual traumatic pasts that all three of these men have gone through. Because I’ve experienced quite a bit of trauma in my past, too, and I feel like I can deeply relate to these three characters and their pain in my own way, especially when it comes to trying to navigate life under the weight of these things that still hang over you. But at the same time, deep down and at their core, they're all good men desperate to stay ‘good’ despite what they’ve endured and what they do. Which is just something that personally resonates with me. Though I will admit that there's just something about Matt Murdock and his inability to take care of himself for the sake of helping others that I also connect with and that I think plays a bigger role in why he's my comfort character and why I write so much for him. I see a lot of myself in Matt–his flaws especially.

Fic in Review 2023
Thanks to @trentcrimminallybeautiful for the tag! I'm (fucking hopefully) starting to get over being so deeply ill after two whole weeks, so I decided it was the time to do this! Yay!
tagging: Literally anyone who wants to, plus I'll tag @providing-leverage, @jamietarttdoodoodoodoo, and @trentcrimmisgay (sorry if you've already been tagged or if it's too late, my brain is rebooting)
Total Number of Completed Stories:
I completed 8 fics this year (1 for Dimension 20 and 7 for Ted Lasso)!!! It's way more than I planned to write in a year, especially given that four of them are over 10k words and I genuinely didn't think I was gonna write any fanfic this year. All in all, I'm really really proud of how much I've written!
Total Word Count: AO3's word count put me at 63,919, which... woah. The one D20 fic I wrote this year wasn't even 2k words, which means that I wrote over 60k words of Ted Lasso fanfic in 6 months. I didn't start writing for TL until June, which honestly makes me even prouder and more excited for tackling stuff next year!
Fandoms Written In: Ted Lasso, almost exclusively. I've also written for Dimension 20, and I figure I will more when Fantasy High: Junior Year releases, but for now I'm on a pretty big TL kick.
Looking back did you expect to write more fic than you thought you would this year, less, or about what you’d expect: I expected to write way less than this! I'd hoped I'd write some, but nothing was really grabbing ahold of me until Ted Lasso crashed into my brain.
What’s your own favorite story of the year, personally?:
Ooh, that's really tough. I'll split it into two because I can't choose:
In my Dichotomy series (I'm just really proud of it tbh), my favorite of the fics was The Dichotomy of a Captain, aka Roy's perspective. It felt the truest to any of them, though I continue to try to stay true to all of them. It's also the first of the fics in this series that made me realize I really could finish the series.
My favorite one-shot of the year is probably Out of Practice, if only because sometimes I get WIP ideas and rarely follow through, but I worked hard to finish this one. And also, I really like watching through Isaac's eyes as he learns stuff about his best friend.
Did you take any writing risks this year?: Honestly, I think the fact that I came back and started writing again was my biggest risk of the year. I wasn't really sure of my voice or style, and it was intimidating to come back and keep writing, but the community made a world of difference.
Do you have any fanfic goals for the New Year?: I've got different WIPs I want to write, like finishing the Dichotomy series and a few series I have in the bank. I think more tangible goals are to get more comfortable with writing new scenes and being more comfortable with past tense. I've always been drawn to canon-explicit stuff, and for some reason, present tense has me in a headlock lmao
Best story of the year: I don't know that I can say anything is "objectively" the best, since fanfic is subjective as hell anyway, but I feel like The Dichotomy of a Captain is the one I feel is the best written. But that one is also my favorite, so I may just be biased.
Most popular story of the year: I'm stealing @trentcrimminallybeautiful's way of doing this because I think it's good, so shoutout
By kudos: "The Dichotomy of a Couch" with 268
By subscriptions: "The Dichotomy of a Couch" with 52 (This was originally going to be one work I wrote the series on, but someone suggested I turn it into multiple works in one series, and this one was first, so it has the highest)
By comment threads: "The Dichotomy of a Captain" with 14
By bookmarks: "The Dichotomy of a Couch" with 65
By hits: "The Dichotomy of a Couch" with 2604
Overall, definitely "The Dichotomy of a Couch", though I did admittedly post it first. But also, wow, these numbers are super humbling, and I'm honored that anyone has read and reacted to what I've written. It means the world for this fic (and my others) to be so kindly received.
Most personal story of the year: Most definitely Who Tells Your Story. No contest.
Funniest story of the year: Ooh, I genuinely made myself laugh while writing The Dichotomy of a Prick, so I'd have to say that one. It's the least serious, and writing Jamie's thoughts brought a smile to my face.
Story of mine most under-appreciated by the universe, in my opinion: Mmm, I guess Who Tells Your Story.
Most fun story to write: I gotta go with The Dichotomy of a Prick again, it was a breath of fresh air between two very serious parts of this series and amidst other more serious one-shots.
Story with the sexiest moment: I genuinely don't write sexy fics, so the answer is going to be very silly. The best I've got is an illusion to a sexy moment in the past during The Dichotomy of a Prick, but Definitely nothing actually sexy lol
Sweetest story of the year: I gotta go with Who Tells Your Story again, considering that I wrote it for the sweet moment.
“Holy crap that’s wrong even for you!” story: I'm also gonna take this to mean angsty instead of scandalous and say The Dichotomy of a Captain
Hardest story to write: The Dichotomy of a Prick was hard to write on a more technical level as far as Jamie's POV went; I was really conscious about not fucking up his character or writing him too OOC. But considering how personal it was for me, Who Tells Your Story gave me some gut punches as I wrote it that made it hard emotionally.
Biggest disappointment: I think that some fics I liked didn't do as well as others that I didn't like as much, but I also know that my writing got better over time, so I'm really not dwelling on it.
Biggest surprise: Writing again in general, definitely, but also how much love I've gotten for things I've been really excited about. I fully didn't expect so much kindness (far more a me thing than anyone in this community, y'all are wonderful) and it's definitely inspired me to keep going. Y'all are amazing and I'm so grateful for all of you.
