#i have some really specific thoughts abt arthur as like

okay a few people have asked now abt steelheart redux so i will do my best to give an overview the maelstrom of vague thoughts it consists of at the moment

basically, steelheart is the oc story i've been posting a shitton of on and off for the past while. steelheart redux refers specifically to its latest iteration, which is completely (mostly) sci-fi and mech driven as opposed to the standard dragon rider story it was before.

it focuses primarily on these guys!

arthur is a human, while zarian is a DRACO, specifically a v1, which i will elaborate on below the readmore bc this is a little long haha

the setup for the story is essentially this:

the DRACOs (version 1, aka v1s) are big draconic mechs that are basically the equivalent of a super high-tech fighter jet with some other bells and whistles, the most notable being that they're pretty much human powered. but to be efficiently powered long-term, they have to be (or have part of them, really) permanently fused to a human host (or any living creature, technically, but humans are what they're like. made for).

despite all that, stuff surrounding their creation goes pretty well for a while, until the v1s mysteriously 'wake up'-- as in, suddenly attain self-aware consciousness, and start talking to their hosts (known as pilots) who understandably take this pretty badly. it's like if the fighter jet you've been flying around and are also kind of biologically fused to suddenly grew a brain and started asking about your day. things get even worse when the company producing the v1s attempts to like. undo this by forcing out an update patch, which has the unintended effect of corrupting the (previously entirely benevolent, just curious) v1s and turning them into crazed murder machines. stuff is bad for a while.

the ACTUAL story takes place 15 years after this, when stuff still isn't amazing but has mostly evened out. the company responsible for the v1s collapsed in the initial chaos, but from its ashes came a new company, Defenex, which has been producing DRACO v2s. they're the sleeker, badder cousins to the v1, made for the sole purpose of protecting towns from and hunting down remaining v1s. they're also, very critically, Not Mysteriously Self-Aware like the v1s are (or. were?) which is good.

the plot follows arthur steele, a fifteen year old boy living in one of the surviving cities, who through a series of accidents comes to be permanently fused to a (mysteriously un-murderous but distinctly unhappy) v1 calling himself Zarian. at first, his goal is to get Zarian removed from his back so they can go their separate ways and he can go back to his unremarkable, relatively safe life. unfortunately, this does not go according to plan. at all. but in the process, they start learning more about the mysterious origins of the DRACO incident and asking questions some people REALLY don't want answered. along the way, they make a few friends, come to actually like each other, and accidentally develop a reputation as Public Enemy #1, Definitely Evil, Kill On Sight. oops.

and that's the gist! i know... a lot of what happens, within that window, but most stuff isn't like nailed down clearly or in order yet, because i've discovered that while i am good with coming up with originally story ideas, actually plotting one from start to finish, coherently and satisfactorily, does NOT come naturally to me at all.

but, at the very least, it has become a fun brain playground and happiness generator, because i am veeery attached to these guys. moreso than i ever have gotten about my own ocs in my whole life tbh

it's a facade. Arthur "Stiff Upper Lip" Kirkland was deeply affected by all of Alfred's deaths (some more than others). it still bothers him in the modern day, which is actually exactly why he talks about it so often and so casually.

keep in mind that Jamestown was not the first English colony in the Americas - it was the first English colony in the Americas to not fail (and they came really, really damn close). Roanoke failed, several in Newfoundland failed, Cuttyhunk failed, Popham failed, as well as English attempts to establish colonies in Guiana, St. Lucia, and Grenada. so I think initially, it was not at all a guarantee for Arthur that Alfred would just wake up again. of course that would be terrifying for any parent.

overall, the 17th century was a rollercoaster for England - multiple civil wars, the interregnum, wars with rival powers, the great plague of London, the great fire of London, religious conflict, fucking Cromwell, multiple assassination plots, a bit of regicide, some uprisings, etc etc - and life in the early colonies wasn't exactly easier. so I think that for a period of time, Alfred was the one bright, shining spot of joy in Arthur's life, but it was a light that was constantly on the verge of flickering out. and England at this point is anything but a great power, so it'd be enough of a challenge for Arthur to take care of himself, much less a baby. this is in pretty stark contrast to when he'd have his other children, when the British were a much greater force to be reckoned with. and I think that as a result, the dynamic Arthur has with Alfred has a serious dose of trauma* involved that isn't really present for Arthur with his other children. it's kinda like the difference between a single teenage parent with his first child vs as an adult with multiple children and the resources and experience to support them. but like, magnified by 100.

there's also, I think, a lot of guilt on Arthur's part for all of this, for being such a failure of a parent, for being so unable to take care of his son to the point that Alfred, who loved him and thought he hung the moon, actually fought him to leave. and then, once gone, actually thrived without him. like that's gotta hurt. Alfred is basically a walking reminder of Arthur's worst failures and weaknesses, so while he's definitely Arthur's favorite and the family golden-child, he's also a bit of the scapegoat as well. like these two went from enmeshed to completely estranged and back to being joined at the hip. it's just all extremes with them. everything, every unhealthy coping mechanism, every bit of hope and ambition, every bit of fear, every bit of pride - it's all magnified with Alfred in a way it isn't for the others.

.*initially I was going to call this 'trauma bonding,' but apparently that term is very specific to cases of abuse. if anyone knows the term for the kind of bonding that happens between two people who have shared traumatic experiences, lmk.

Hihihi!!! Sorry this has been sitting in my ask for a bit I've been trying to find the time and energy to put down my thoughts!

The general overview is, I think I definitely see the faults people had with it, I think the book is hard to fix and even with the changes there are certain beats they HAVE to hit because of the music, but I also think it has so many gems and this show is so well acted like I find the good far out weighs the bad for me. It's just really engaging grand theater to meee it can be so silly and fun but also really hit with these very earnest moments 🥺, also considering all the drama and tragedy it is surprISINGLY HILARIOUS!! I was giggling so much in act 1. Like RIP to the person sitting next to me who had to see me grip my face and GASP every time something wild happened lmaooo. GOD JUST AHHHHHH SOME OF THOSE MOMENTS WENT SO HARD!!!! Here I'll try my best to narrow some down jk I did a horrible job at narrowing down

- AH that imagery of the single tree in the snow at the very top of the show. Lovely.

-the entire scene with the wedding gone wrong is just soo good and like a mini show on its own with its own little arc. I was so charmed by Phillipa and Andrew's chemistry fr fr so good! I could probably fill a whole post with just moments from this bit!

-When Guinevere is below the right side of the stage (I was sitting to the left)and when she hears the knights refer to him as King her head just slooooooooowly pops into view like 👁️👁️

-Genny: WHEN WERE YOU GOING TO TELL ME YOU WERE KING?!?!?

javier x a heavily pregnant reader im talking like extremely hormonal in a fuck load of pain just waiting to relise this crotch demon (set in shady belle) tw: spoilers about character deaths minor angst and details abt child birth

To say the least he would be really concerned for your and the baby's health

Would probably be asking some of the women around camp (like Abigail a miss Grimshaw) if it's normal for you to be pregnant for this long and still not give birth

They reassure him its ok and just tell him the best thing he can do is try and find some remedies that can induce labor

he rides out immediately to get said remedies because 1 he can't stand to see you in pain and 2 he can't wait any longer to meet his baby

Anytime he leaves camp he makes sure to give you and your belly a bunch of hugs and kisses beforehand

He hates going far from camp scared of missing his child's birth

When you guys had moved into the new camp duch gave you guys your own bedroom not wanting you to sleep on the ground

At night when you two are laying in bed he will wrap his arms around you feeling up your baby bumb

When the O'Driscolls raided the camp he pulled you into cover immediately making sure you were safe praying to whatever God out there that you didn't get hit by any bullets

Luckily Charles was taking cover behind a wagon right next to yall and helped him get you inside as fast as possible

Javier normally doesn't cry in front of people but his eyes were filled with tears once he held you his arms asking you " mi amor are you alright?! You didn't get hit did you? Please tell me our baby's okay!" Whilst holding his hands on your tummy

After you reassure him that you and the baby are okay he kisses your head and tells you to stay in cover while he gose helps the others

After the ramianing O'Driscolls run off and everyone Is going back outside looking at keirens dead body javier encourages you to stay inside

Mainly cause he's scared of anything else hurting you

He's pretty tense the next few days not wanting to be more then a foot away from you in fear for your life

Ofc the day he finally decides you can be out his sight safely is when you finally go into labor

As he's sitting by the edge of the alligator infested water all he hears is you scream In pain and he's jumping up running as fast as can towards you

Once he finds you your already being helped by miss Grimshaw into the tent she had set up specifically for when you gave birth

He followed in asking all sorts of questions until he was silenced by your yells of pain that's when just shut up and held your hand letting Ms Grimshaw take over striping you of your skirt and undergarments and placing a blanket over you

He felt stressed watching you in so much pain as birth was not exactly a fast 123 done type thing

You were in labor for 30 painful hours

You would squeeze his hand so hard his knuckles turn white

He would be trying his best to comfort in his native language you buy given your in labor trying to translate what's he saying is not top of your to do list "mi amor lo estas haciendo tan bien"(translation: my love you are doing so well) you just glare at him "either speak English or shut the hell up"

Once you finally give birth to a healthy baby girl javier Is crying tears of joy while holding his little angel in his arms smiling seeing you finally getting some peaceful rest

Oh any you know he is extremely protective of both you and the baby girl you decided to name Veronica after his late mother

The two of you have him wrapped around your fingers

When he was leaving to go rob the Saint Denise Bank he gave you a loving kiss and huge you and Veronica tightly "Los amo a los dos más que a nada en este mundo"(translation: I love you both more than anything in this world)

Ofc when he didn't return it worried you

You feared having to raise this baby on your own whilst mourning your husband

As Charles returned he informed everyone about hosea and Lenny's death and that everyone else escaped on a boat

All you could think about was javier

And all he could think of was you and Veronica pleading whilst being dragged by a donkey "¡por favor! Tengo esposa e hija"(translation: please! I have a wife and daughter)

When he had returned first thing you did when you saw him was jump into his arms crying "I thought you died!" He would hold you close "mi amor I would never leave you and Veronica "

He cried first time he held Veronica again much like he did when she was born

As yall moved camp to beaver hallow you two would have some arguments "you keep doing these goddamn suicide missions your going to leave our baby fatherless!!" He groaned "amor I don't have a choice I just want a better life for us!" You shook your head "yes because being a widowed mother is a better life!!"

One night he was holding Veronica rocking her to sleep and arthur walked up to him looking more sickly then ever

"Your a great father Javier "

"I know "he didn't even look at arther just his baby girl

"Look I get your loyal to duch but something bad is about to happen and I want you and your family safe when that goes down"

"What do you want me to do?! Go up and run with my wife and kid?! I have no money im wanted almost everywhere I go and I haven't know a life where I wasn't on the run since I was a teenager!"

Arthur reached in his coat and pulled out a stack of money placing it on the table in front of javier "just think about your family first "and walked away

The next night you and javier were packing up a wagon just a few more things then you two would get out of there

Arthur came over watching you two pack "I see you listened to my advice javier "

"I had to I can't keep my family at risk like this it's not how I want my daughter raised "javi said as he packed the last bag "thank you Arthur "

"Don't thank me" Arthur shook his head

You walked over and gave him a big hug "im gonna miss you the most. I'll make sure Veronica remembers her uncle Arthur "you smiled

Arthur just smiled and looked at Veronica "that girls gonna go far in life".he then looked at javier again "what are you waiting for get out of here before someone notices!"

Javier helped you get on the wagon then handed you Veronica before getting on himself taking the reines you waved at Arthur as you rode off

I think historical transtalia is really fun to think about...I've posted abt my hcs a few times before on twt but never here I dont think? so heres a few that I'd like to share

- Since Arthur was "born", he has known himself to be a guy. There is no other way he has interacted w the world than as male

- As such I see him as being rly comfy w his body and therefore hes never really felt the desire to get top or bottom surgery or anything like that bc he knows his body is a male body and hes seen it as such since the beginning, and he appreciates it for that and yeah! Thats why even after all these years he still just binds his chest to flatten it out under clothes and stuff but outside of that hes comfy in how he looks

- As for Alfred I think he started transitioning a little later in life...around the revolutionary war is what I always think? so when he was (physically) around like 16ish? I feel like there was always a gnawing feeling but he never really figured out what it was till he chopped off his hair and started presenting as male so he could tag along with his militias and fight alongside them, and that was when his egg finally cracked

- Alfred and Arthur using modified stays and then later on corsets to bind their chests for much of history

- I dont really see this specific scene in nationverse (bc I feel like they got together after WWII) but imagine 1860's au where they sensually lace up each others binder corsets....all the lingering touches..the longing and desire to touch more....aaaaaAAAH

- Alfred had a really big chest and it was hard for him to get completely flat and I honestly feel like Alfred hated his chest before and it made him so self conscious so once gender confirmation surgeries were becoming a thing around the 1920's he was one of the first people to volunteer himself up as a trial subject. Especially seeing as he cant die of some horrid infection, he thought it was a win/win for everyone- surgeons get to try out new techniques and he gets to be flat

- Al doesn't care abt bottom surgery tho his junk is no ones business but his

- They both jumped at the opportunity to start hormone treatments asap (have yet to do any research on when that officially became a service offered for trans people but I'm sure they swindled their way into getting rudimentary testosterone treatments)

- Uhhhh theyre both so sexy hot and theyre boyfriends in the present day

o hey it’s me why did i sandwich two honestly-unrelated stories? bc i can!! actually it’s bc i feel lame when i post too much. which goes against how you’re supposed to use tumblr…. but no one ever said i was good at this

anyway, they serve similar purposes. The Election Event is supposed to be a sort of Anniversary Event, while the..… Anniversary Event is named that. the Count did not!! have a scenario Anniversary Event this year (that was apparently reserved for the top 6. sad but makes sense) so yea, make do w/ this

The Election Story is an AU where the characters are hosts of a host club. which…. not my thing but w/e, maybe some of u like that stuff The Anniversary Event on the other hand is supposed to be in-line with canon. results in corny SHIET but i like corny shiet. like the vlad one has them buying mugs (? thats a thing in the 19th century, corny mug shit? #1 best vampire mug? bruh)

in event chronology, the anni event was way before the election one but i put the election one first here cuz it’s longer (bc i included the prologue)

[Kara]: “Survived another week of hard work, me… haah,” (I finally have the day off tomorrow. It’ll be okay if I let loose a bit tonight, right?) When I was worn out from the monotony of everyday life, I would head over to a certain place for comfort and thrills. And that establishment was—

[Napoleon]: “Welcome to Club Deep Night.”

[Arthur]: “Ah, it’s Kara. You came to see me, right? ‘Been waiting.” [Isaac]: “Hold up, Arthur; she doesn’t come here just to see you, no?” [Dazai]: “Ooh, Isaac; a Host’s jealousy isn’t pretty, you know?” [Dazai]: “Well then, Toshiko-san; Your pick tonight— Wha – is me? No, no, it’s an honor. This will be a night of blinding sensuality very soon—"

[Isaac]: “She hasn’t picked anyone and you’re already going full steam ahead. —And her name isn’t Toshiko.” [Arthur]: “Right, right; Don’t hang with some guy who can’t your name right, Kara— My princess.”

As soon as I entered the club, a smile appeared on my face as a battle of charms began in front of me.

[Napoleon]: “Sheesh… every last one of these rascals are thrilled. Sorry that they’re being so noisy.” [Kara]: “No, no! Whenever I come here, it’s fun and even perks me up.” [Vincent]: “Really? If I’m to be the source of your high spirits, then I’ll make it even livelier in here.” [Vincent]: “I’ll build the champagne tower, and prepare the call!” [Theodorus]: “Hey, Hondje— Hurry and pour the champagne. It’ll be to give gratitude to the angel that’s landed on this city tonight.” [Theodorus]: “If you can be a good girl, I’ll tease and spoil you to bits.”

⋆ in host clubs, there’s a thing called a champagne call. the customer buys some very expensive bubbly, and all of the hosts gather round her table to chant, sing, w/e i was curious on how the localization handled theo’s dog nickname for MC (like 駄犬) cuz if they did a straight translation (mongrel, mutt, etc.), i feel like the western audience would hate him lul. glad they found smth

Everyone tries to entertain me, and in a single moment, their sweet words make me forget about my ordinary life. (It’s nice that everyone is so lively; but shouldn’t I go pick someone for tonight…?)

Troubled about it, arms then suddenly wrapped around my waist on both sides, causing me to cry out. [Faust]: “How long do you intend to go down one by one like that, keeping us men waiting?” [Faust]: “Come on— Please pick someone, and quickly. I can’t say... that I don’t know who you should be choosing.” [Charles]: “Ugh, there goes the cunning Doctor. I wanted to be picked by her, and now you’re doing all this.” [Charles]: “Hey— Pick me, Kara. I’ll do things to you that’ll make you feel good, utterly euphoric...” [Sebastian]: “Stop the Sexy Time. Even though you are a host, please show some restraint within club walls, Charles.” [Sebastian]: “...There being so many rivals vying for Kara’s nomination, is a nuisance.”

[Jeanne]: “If I do things that will make her feel good, will she be thrilled?” [Mozart]: “Jeanne, it’d be a good idea to not emulate what you just saw.”

⋆ “Stop the Sexy Time” is transliterated into kana, so it felt wrong to potentially change it. yes the cringe was not made by me this time. surprisingly also, this is something that gets a bit lost in translation: Charles and Jeanne both use yorokobu, in which the most common meaning is to be pleased, feel joy, etc. however, they use diff kanji which have diff connotations. Charles uses one that’s more abt physical joy (like a massage... or uh u know), while Jeanne uses one that’s more abt emotional joy (like seeing a friend u haven’t met with in a while). it’s supposed to show how dirty minded charles is while jeanne is precious LOL

[Mozart]: “Kara, come over here. You deserve to receive much finer hospitality... So, from me.” [Jeanne]: “If you pick me as well, then I’ll do my very best. Kara, won’t you come with me?” (Urgh- it’s getting more and more impossible to pick just one of them...!)

A bit farther away from everyone else, in the backroom— two men were exchanging words with each other: [Shakespeare]: “The moment Kara arrived, everyone became so animated.” [Shakespeare]: “She’s a mysterious one, to be able to draw us masterful hosts towards herself.” [Leonardo]: “Mhm, every single grown man is desperate to get the sweetheart’s attention.   [Leonardo]: “Well... maybe I should turn desperate too, hm?”

And in the owner’s quarters, there were also men watching Kara through the club monitors. [Vlad]: “That girl…” [Count]: “You mean Kara? She started frequenting this place a little while ago.” [Count]: “For some reason, I’m always interested… in who she picks each time.” [Vlad]: “Looks like you care quite a lot about one specific customer, dear Owner.” [Vlad]: “Kara… hm?”

[Napoleon]: “Regardless, all of the hosts here like you way too much. —To be honest, it makes me anxious.” [Kara]: “Huh-?” (Anxious… as a host? Or… as a man?) His words, honeyed with sweet temptation, made my heart race. His smile then deepened: [Napoleon]: “—Well, Kara; Who’s your pick tonight?”

[Count]: “So you’ve come, Kara. I’ve been waiting, you know.” I had paid a visit to the host club I always go to, and was invited to the owner’s quarters for some reason.

(Being called up here by the owner… this is the first time that’s ever happened.) I couldn’t come up with a reason why I was the only customer summoned here.

[Count]: “It’s not anything to be nervous about; I just wanted to hear something from you tonight.” [Count]: “You come here often, but you pick someone different every time.” [Count]: “Is there no one here that meets your expectations?” [Kara]: “My expectations?” [Count]: “Mhm. Being unable to satisfy our customers’ needs is an alarming matter.” [Count]: “If none of my kids happen to be your type, I’d like to hear what kind of things you seek.” [Kara]: “N-No… it’s not that none of them are my type;” [Kara]: “It’s just that everyone here is so wonderful, so I can’t pick only one of them.” [Kara]: “They’re cool, kind, great at conversation, and entertain me…” As I thought about the hosts who had surrounded me at the tables up to this point, I voiced my feelings honestly. I then recalled the words the Count had said just a moment ago, and felt a slight discomfort in my heart.

(I’m being honest when I say that I can’t choose between such amazing hosts. But…) (I also think it’s certainly true that “what I seek” is a bit different from them.) (The one I desire is more…) I shifted my eyes to the Count standing before me, and he responded with the composed smile of a mature adult. I was captivated by him at first glance, as a scent of danger seemed to drift from deep within that smiling face.

(But— As the owner himself, the Count’s not going to service a customer, of course…) Regretful, I dropped my gaze— Before I realized the Count had walked over to me. Cradling my chin in his fingers, he turned my head up so I face him.

[Count]: “Contrary to your words… your eyes say that there is something you desire.” [Count]: “Your indecisiveness stems from wanting more stimulation, is it not?” [Count]: “Like this, for example—"

He suddenly pressed his lips to mine. Shocked, I tried to pull away— but the Count gripped my waist in place. He then drew me in closer as if to prevent escape, changing angles countlessly as he took my lips. [Kara]: “Nn-… Don’t. I can’t pick you, the owner, as my host, so…” [Count]: “That unsatisfied-looking face of yours deeply bothers me.” [Count]: “I’m retired, but if you wish it so... For you, I’m willing to make a comeback tonight.” [Count]: “Well, now… go ahead; make your choice?” As if to seduce me, the gleaming gold eyes in front of me radiate this allure. With that, I felt that he could see through the lustful desires that lied within the recesses of my heart, and my body shivered with a subtle numbness. (I’ve never felt this way before.) Wondering what kind of stimulation he would give, I wanted to be toyed by those fingers, those lips… These emotions muddled within me.

[Count]: “You are astoundingly beautiful tonight, Kara. —It was good to have left the manse like this.” [Count]: “If we had traversed the streets by foot, then I would have surely faced difficulty in having to shake off the men charmed by you.” [Kara]: “Ah-… D-Don’t play around like that, please.” [Count]: “I’m being completely honest, you know. —Well, if someone were to come near you, I wouldn’t let them lay a finger on you anyway.”

⋆ he says something closer to “those are my true thoughts, without a single lie” but that’s going too far in my arbitrary rules of “does this sound like smth ppl actually say” so whee

(J-Jeez; He always acts like this…) Wanting to mislead my pounding heart, I hastily changed the subject.

[Kara]: “Um… Where are we going tonight?” [Count]: “Oh my, did you forget? Today’s the anniversary of the day we met, of all things.” [Kara]: “Of course I didn’t forget. It was the day I changed my own fate, and met you— A day I cherish so very much.” [Count]: “It’s the same for me; And it’s precisely why we’re going to a place where I may reaffirm my love.” (“Love”…?) When I tilted my head, the Count gave a meaningful smile, saying nothing more.

With that—

The place the stagecoach had arrived, was a church I recognized. (This is… the place where we had confirmed our love for one another.) The Count took my hand before we entered, the moonlight silently illuminating the unoccupied altar.

[Count]: “I have decided from my heart— that on this day, and on every day we call ‘our anniversary’—" I shall proclaim my vows to you once more.”

[Count]: “Kara— This is my oath of eternal love to you.” Before the altar, the Count kneeled before taking my left hand, dropping a reverent kiss on my ring finger. [Kara]: “nh- Ah-…” A sweet numbness ran from my finger, and my heart skipped a beat.

[Count]: “The time I spend with you, is filled with a dazzling brilliance.” [Count]: “—Filled to the point where I believe those centuries I had of embracing nothingness, came to be for the purpose of being able to meet you…” [Count]: “If you would allow it— For the future to come, with you by my side, I shall continue to swear such (to you).”

[Count]: “And thus, I wish that one day, I shall become one with you. —That is the greatest happiness I seek.”

He then rose to his feet, embracing me as if to envelop me whole. With my cheek pressed against his chest, I could feel his heart beating as fast as mine. (Like this, it’s as if I’m becoming one with the Count— With Abel.)

He tenderly brushed my hair aside before running a finger down my neck. One day, fangs will sink into this very spot, and love from a pureblooded vampire – called “eternity” – will be spilled within. Thinking about such things, my heart grew full— and tears were about to fall down my face, involuntarily.

[Kara]: “Abel… me too, I-…”

Overcome with emotion, I was at loss for words— When an almost-biting kiss fell upon me, cutting off my words. His tongue caught mine through my broken lips, our hot sighs immediately laden with heat.

[Count]: “—There is no need for words.” His lips only barely parting from mine, he whispered with a glossy sigh.

[Count]: “The tears brimming in your eyes, tell me everything— that you belong to me.” [Kara]: “Ah-… Abel…” His gentle - but also denying any notion of resistance – and sweet kiss, deepened, desiring me and only me. I embraced him with all my strength, abandoning myself to this happiness that will last forever and ever…

anyway, the election was mostly a skip for me this year cuz i dun care for mini figures. also, he was doing awful in categories bc ppl are voting characters over several categories (rather than just the recommended one). frankly i think it’s dumb to vote a character in anything other than the “officially” recommended category bc the chance of losing in all categories is much higher than getting stuff in >1 category (e.g., with the midterm results u can see vlad in every category, but he’s only eligible for a benefit in one…when he could easily just win in one category period). but maybe that way of thinking is too tryhard for a game that only barely fits the definition of a game #realgamurz #weliveinasociety

i honestly didn’t do (aka pay) much and ranked rly well in character rankings. so i was happy i got decent stuff, but sadder he doesn’t get much support;; u telling me the richest guy has the stingiest fans. yes. i mean look at me, microwave pizza is my life

Okay so like the self-doubt I'm having abt writing...part of it stems from me now having ppl familiar with the source material reading it and having it grow much past "brief rewrite of a previous work". People are reading this, people who are more familiar with the source material than either me or my beta reader. I’m here fearing that they'll like. accuse me of being edgy or something. Bc it’s much darker in tone than the original and I'm pulling a lot from real experiences of mine that frankly could be reasonably described as traumatic.

And I have my own very specific personal reasons for applying that to this work of fiction (it's been here for me throughout trauma and has a bit of a role in some of the specific trauma that I'm drawing off of) but of course the readers don't know that nor do they care. The readers are asking themselves why the hell I write the characters Like That.

I feel like they're especially going to come after how I write Ford bc a Lot of how I write him isn't "how is he like canonically" but "what are addicts like?" which is like. not to say that I consider "addict" to be a character trait or anything like that! But if I AM going to realistically depict addiction (which I am), I am going to HAVE to depict this character as having experiences he doesn't have canonically. I make it clear that he constantly needs to have access to alcohol so I write him as carrying around a flask, which he doesn't do in the series. Addicts are constantly thinking abt when they can use next, so there's a lot of scenes where Ford is having repetitive thoughts about drinking, which he doesn't have in the series. One of the symptoms of alcoholism is withdrawals, so I write scenes where he's in withdrawal, which he definitely doesn't experience in the series. But then I remember that the title of this AU is "AU Where Ford's Alcoholism Is Taken Seriously" - not just "AU where Arthur takes Ford's alcoholism seriously" but also "AU where the story takes Ford's alcoholism seriously" and so like. the narrative's job, with regards to these aspects of the characterization, is indeed to put in things that weren't in the source material.

Also like Ford's characterization is Like That in light of the fact that I'm having him get himself into a lot of serious emotional situations (like, largely wrt his relationship to Arthur but also being forced to process some things that canonically happened to him) that are not remotely similar to anything that happens canonically. Also I remembered I have some assumptions/headcanons abt the character that make sense to me but not everyone else is going to necessarily share and a lot of the deeper characterizations are based on these assumptions. (These include: the drinking binges described in his introduction in the book are a somewhat regular occurrence, he's less well-liked on Earth than he is in space, his drinking became a coping thing after getting stranded on Earth, etc.)

And then again I look at my characterization of Ford and realize I made him Really close to Zaphod, personality-wise, with the primary difference being a lack of grandiosity on Ford's part and also Ford will not talk freely about himself and his shortcomings the same way Zaphod does. (Granted Zaphod isn't at all self-critical when he does but he does acknowledge his flaws in a kind of "yeah this is who I am so what" way.) But like...doesn't that make sense? I don't have anything to point to to support this claim but I feel like Douglas Adams did really want us to view these two characters as at least somewhat similar to each other. I think it makes sense!

I don't think people would criticize my portrayal of Arthur that much (other than one detail abt his behavior that I made up, got extremely attached to, and then realized it conflicts with a very minor but present canon detail). That's bc I think writing about anxiety is less "edgy" than addiction, in most people's eyes.

Also the anxiety is the thing least likely in this fic to bring up any kind of trauma for anyone else. Idk if they'd consider it trauma but I know for a fact one of the people reading my fics has been the friend of an alcoholic and I got the impression that it significantly impacted them. Granted the name of my fic series is LITERALLY "AU Where Ford's Alcoholism Is Taken Seriously" and the descriptions of and tags on both stories so far make it abundantly clear that you're going to read about that. Maybe it's the fact that it's the concept of a potentially massively triggering fanfiction for fucking Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy. Maybe I just view that as an inherently strange concept. Idk that I'd be feeling this way if I were writing for a source that's more serious in nature. I can't think of another fandom for which I'd potentially write where I would write a fic like this though (and this was the part where I made up abt the DDLC AU Where Sayori Takes Yuri’s Self-Harm Seriously, but even then the self-harm is already taken seriously and there's stuff to be said abt how it's played for horror, but it is definitely not played for comedy, and some of The Point of my fic is "Hey isn't it a bit fucked-up that people think some of this is funny?" Although granted I could make a commentary abt how "Hey isn't it a bit fucked-up that people think some of this is scary?" but Im getting way fucking ahead of myself)

Actually if I'm going to be honest it could be bc I know people think there's something "dirty" or "gross" about addiction and I feel like they're going to feel like I'm tainting their light-hearted media with this serious and unpleasant (and indeed sometimes gross) real-life experience. Even though it IS all more or less a deconstruction of how the characters are presented to us. See that's what I keep coming back to to justify my writing to myself. I've simply decided that my fic is serious where the source material is humorous because frankly it's just fun to write like that. "Why do you get pleasure out of writing a serious fanfiction for a comedy series?" "It's fun" is a strange set of sentences bc I really can't explain WHY it's fun to do that. I think I just have my own very particular definition of the word "fun".

It's all making me glad that I explained in the author's notes of the first fic that I'm an addict because at the VERY least, that's enough information for someone to go "this is completely off the rails but I understand why they're doing it". And yeah I know it sucks that ppl have to disclose that kind of information about themselves for others to leave them alone abt certain things but fortunately I'm the person who doesn't care if anyone knows that about me and in fact in the context of this and anything else I ever write (my music included), I WANT them to know that about me.

it's definitely not too much trouble i already know this is gonna be long as shit bc i have so many Thoughts on the matter

it is indeed p hard to articulate so i'll give some examples & comparisons n share my thoughts based on that!

first i think it's important to recognize the context of a show like skam. it is made to represent every-day teenagers who might enjoy but not ever relate to characters & stories on some fantasy/murder mystery shows abt teenagers. the very core of skams is realism n accuracy to real life. we as the audience are not only supposed to be onlookers of the events we're meant to feel connected to the stories n relate to the main characters.

skamfr has some VERY beautiful shots if u look at them independently. if someone just showed me a screenshot of one of them i'd be like wow! that's stunning! but that's not what i'm supposed to feel when it comes to skams. if i go watch an artistic full length movie at the theaters i Do want to see beautiful shots that look like art n have a lot of symbolism behind them but when i watch skam i'm supposed to think "that could be me. that looks like my life" i'm not a lowly spectator who could never have such a beautiful life but instead the audience should see their lives directly put on screen.

skam france has been rly consistent w it tho! it's been their brand since like season 3.. but it did get worse in s5 & 6 i think bc they started to try too hard for original storylines. i think it's very intentional n if they were making another show i wouldn't say it's bad rly (altho sometimes it is that too bc they try too hard fmgjkd). out of context a lot of their cinematography works bc they usually tie it into the plot to represent the events but they just picked the wrong style for a web series. like babes u are not submitting this to the academy pls chill.

now let me introduce u to the most despicable shot in skam history (in my humble opinion)

now before anyone says. yes i know this sequence of shots has a purpose. this is exactly what i mean that if it was some other show w different goals it wouldn't be such an issue bc yeah this looks great right? it's a "sensory clip" we r supposed to "hear" what it's like to be deaf n specifically what it's like for arthur. but.

let's put this into skam context. we as the audience should see ourselves in arthur, not necessarily entirely but we should feel he's just like us, a teenager w his own unique struggles & life experiences. now tell me, when u feel depressed or sad or have had the worst week of ur life n u must drag urself to the shower... is this what it feels like? first of all do u take the shower in the fucking dark???? just for the aesthetic?? do u stand DIRECTLY in the middle letting the water hit u exactly on the top of ur head forming a symmetrical shade on u while u just... stand there. do u feel like ur ascending in the shower as u dramatically raise ur chin literally what the actual fuck is this. don't get me wrong sometimes u just actually do stand there doing nothing bc u just feel so horrible but that's not rly the feeling this clip awakens?

this leans a bit into the romanticization of arthur's season which wouldn't be as bad (still cringy but not as bad) if arthur had already accepted himself at this point but no he's basically suffering in the shower n we are looking at him like wow that's so pretty. let's imagine how we could make this clip feel more real n how we could actually see ourselves in him here:

stop making ur main characters of the season the main characters of the world. just bc arthur is feeling terrible doesn't mean the whole world imitates his feelings. in a symbolic movies masterpiece it would but not in a concept like skam. one of the worst things abt feeling terrible is seeing how the world just goes on around u. imagine how real it would feel like if he was in the shower w the generic yellowish light on that a lot of bathrooms have. we could see his silhouette slouching in the shower through a shower screen. or maybe a shot similar to the example pics but the ugly lights are on n the water is annoyingly dripping in his eyes & he doesn't look like they're trying to give him a halo n make him into a jesus archetype. the bathroom would look the same it looks on a rly happy day or a boring day bc this day only sucks for arthur n the universe isn't gonna come to his house to give him a cool background bc of it

two underwater shots, both rly pretty & heavy on symbolism but the other one is literally waiting for those "this looks like a renaissance painting" comments n the other is rly pretty but still looks like real life humans who r not doing a photo shoot for vogue. which do u find more relatable? which situation makes u think Yeah that's real life?

like look at this camera position of "barely above water" this is like.. almost "ugly" but it's so fucking real n probably closest to the feeling of a first person point of view shot that u can get to

now the s7 camera decisions seem sooooo much better compared to all this. they have a lot of time to still make super dramatic shots that distance the viewer from the story line but so far so good. maybe they'll pick this up again to make the world revolve around tiff as she faces hardships but let's hope not 🙃

i genuinely love this shot like it's super down to earth & feels real but they have still easily kept in the symbolism. like tiff is literally putting walls between others n herself. jo feels like she's literally talking to a wall. tiff feels alone & secluded even tho someone is in the same room as her. yet they didn't have to make it look like smth out of an obscure indie film whose purpose is to have the audience in awe instead of representing them.

yeah the first person point of view of jo going in and out of frame while doing sit ups mightve been weird or cringy but 1. that's skam for y'all & 2. i'll choose that any day over arthur ascending like jesus in the shower.

i was going to dump this into @time-and-space​‘s inbox, but then it spiraled out of control and became super long. so im making it into a post. heres some thinking abt doctor who/torchwood/class/merlin parallels ! (specifically abt the parallels between tenrose/janto/charlie x matteusz/merthur) (keep in mind that my knowledge on merlin is not so good) (also feel free to correct me if im wrong or add anything on) (also this contains spoilers for ... all the shows. pls watch them, theyre good)

ive been thinking about the whole theme between charlie and matteusz where theyre like ?? scared to lose each other ?? and how it totally parallels to the other things like .... we have one character whos different and immortal and alien (not to mention the trauma they've been through-), but another who is supposedly "normal" and human. so, they work with it right ?

but then theres the ever-present danger of what they have to go through daily, and the fear that its going to leave them alone. i mean, they've already been left alone, but now that they've actually fallen in love, its different. its harder now.

consider the following lines:

"i think of it every day, and the only thing that stops me is you." (class, e6) 

"i take it all back, but not him!"(torchwood, s3e4) (theres probably a better quote but no think, head empty)

"i could save everyone, but lose you." (doctor who, uhhh idk but i swear the doctor said something like it at some point, pls correct me if im wrong)

and yes, theyve felt this before, the pain of their entire race being wiped out, no one left but them, and everyone seems to leave them in the end. but for one second, they stop and actually think they have a chance for a while. someone who might stay.

ALSO it works as like .... the normal person is scared of the other, scared of what they can do and how they are ....

consider the following lines:

"im afraid of who you are, of what you're capable of, of what you will do" (class e6)

"you like to think you're a hero, but you're the biggest monster of all." (s1e4)

"what about you, doctor? what the hell are you changing into?" (doctor who, s1e6)

the person who has been through so much is capable of doing so many things, and sometimes it scares the other one. but they witnessed genocide ! and theyre probably traumatized over it ! theyve probably done some terrible shit as a result of it ! both of them are so valid in being that way.

and another parallel i have just thought of, mentioned a lot already, but the recurring theme of killing off an entire race and how that affected the alien character ....

consider the following situations:

doctor who - the time war, in which the doctor participated, and eventually ended. // when 9 was planning to kill off the last of the daleks in the parting of ways, hesitating for a bit, knowing that it would end up destroying earth in the process, making them no better than what the daleks are

torchwood - jack's planet and how it got invaded, how his parents died as a result and why his brother did everything that happened in exit wounds. // ummm i think maybe how willingly jack was able to give the girl up to the fairies to save the human race, like hes seen what the fairies are capable of, hes seen what disasters mass murder can bring. he doesnt want to see it again. 

class - well, the shadowkin invasion, both on rhodia and when it happens on earth (both times) but also the invasion with the flowers ? // how much he really wants to just kill the shadowkin like ! he even mentioned it once ("i want to murder the shadowkin. every last one ...." e6) and he just wants to do it out of revenge. but “we shouldnt avenge genocide with genocide” (we're not going to talk abt how the only thing stopping him is that he would lose matteusz in the process)

but yeah ! theyve seen first hand what it like, and when prompted to do the same thing themselves, they end up hesitating, eventually choosing the other option instead. (well... except charlie. he does it once at least.) 

and finally, immortality. this ties in a lot w my first point abt losing the other person .....

doctor who - pretty easy to think about, the doctor has had so many companions over the years, and each time they end up leaving them. even after he meets rose, who wished to stay together forever ("how long are you gonna stay with me?" "forever.") but then she ends up leaving, the doctor is left to continue on for so much longer ..

torchwood - pretty same as above, jack never commits himself to a relationship, he knows everyone will leave him anyway. but then he meets ianto jones. and it all changes, he falls in love, which he said he would never do, and thats why he doesnt ever say "i love you," because once he says it then he cant deny it any longer. once he says it than he will have to admit that ianto, someone that he does love, is lost to him.

class - ok, charlie isnt technically immortal from what i know, but i am assuming he probably has a longer lifespan than humans (basing this off this line - "you want to know who would be the last one standing out of the five of us? i would." e6) so ! its mentioned a lot (and is the main theme, as i said earlier) that matteusz and charlie dont want to lose each other. i want to specifically point out the line “every day i think, please dont go where i cant follow.” (e8) because it just so implies that charlie is different. he can go places, live longer than matteusz ever can. 

going to add this onto the end here, but i just thought that actually merlin kinda fits into this too ! 

loss - the loss of his father, of his one childhood friend (will?), the knights of the round table (pretty sure a lot of them die too, correct me if im wrong) and even arthur who leaves in the end. everyone around him just seems to leave or turn bad 

fear - we all know merlin is powerful, right ? i mean i swear it says somewhere hes like ... the greatest sorcerer to ever live or smth. and yes, arthur doesnt technically fear him, but if we think about what would have happened if merlin revealed his magic earlier, when camelot was still under the rule of uther and arthur was still scared of ppl w magic .... idk abt this one ndjnsjd it works in my head okay

trauma - had to get some help from @a-confused-contradictory-mess​ here and she brought up some good points ! when he was younger, because of his magic, he never really fit in. his mother made him hide, because she feared what would happen if he found out. (i ... think?) imagine what that does to someone, having to hide something about yourself for so long.

immortality - after everyone leaves around him, theres kinda no escape. he has to live with it for all the years that his immortal life goes by. this ties in a lot w how jack and the doctor feel, with everyone around them making them left all alone. 

tldr: losing the one person they always thought would stay, one being scared of the other's power, the trauma affecting one of them, immortality and the price that comes w it are all some really good parallels between these ships/shows and genuinely kill me inside

some things I thought were interesting abt the monolith in the early man part of the book, which I don't remember if they're in the movie, are: The monolith is deliberately placed on the ground by something with very large, heavy footsteps (?) which also uproots a bush as it walks(?). The monolith is made of metal, but it's also clear. idk that this info is specifically important to notice but the footsteps thing is intriguing me 👀

the moon monolith (moonolith lol) is pitch black however which makes sense given the two 'liths have different purposes. also it notes that the 'lith is connected to a likewise flat slab to keep it anchored in place <- something dr michaels says on page 74

gonna be honest this thing being called "TMA-1" is really distracting

does some1 say the discovery mission happened in january 2001 in the 2010 movie... + I think there are 18 months between the two so the events of the tycho moblith are frommm hyearghhh *doing math* july 1999 ? when reading hal's dialogue i just imagine he sounds like Movie Hal, but then I'm like WAIT that voice is just a real guy talking..... the character has a computer-generated voice........... computer voices did exist when this book/movie was made, but I imagine in the fictitious year of 2001 they get better at blending in with human voices (maybe not perfectly because dave notes that he can tell a certain voice is a computer). some food for thought I guess

i dont think hal's appearance is described so far (like, his "eyes" in the movie) his only tangible presence is his voice I think? I'm wondering if this will every be brought up or not. <- and then it was finally brought up on page 143

i get why we dont see any other ways of categorizing fears in the podcast, but out of curiosity, what do you think other fear taxonomy's might be like?

i have actually given this very little thought bcos i am on that fear soup train and am coming up with stuff on the fly (if someone else has more thoughts PLEASE share i would LOVE it)

i do think that the development of ppl’s definitions of the fears would have, in most cases, happened organically (like folklore and mythology develop naturally over time). given the existence of........... certain philosophers, though, i’m sure there have been, if not scientific taxonomies (altho those too), then rly awful philosophical categorizations.

...aristotle. i’m saying aristotle made a REALLY BAD taxonomy based on not one iota of research, just his own fucking opinions. do i hate aristotle a lot YES OBVIOUSLY have you SEEN the garbage he came up with, he said that women must have fewer teeth than men bcos they’re ‘incomplete’ and i’m p sure one of the reasons he never checked is that any woman would have bitten him.

now as for like, fears that might be in other ppl’s fear lists (i am not going to make a full fear list, just some examples of what might be out there!)

i’ve talked before abt how fear of being othered (not encountering the Other, being the other, and experiencing the hatred of others bcos of that) and fear of powerlessness (not just being manipulated by an unseen force, altho that can be there too, but like of being forced into things by a force u very much can see as well) SHOULD be things, so like, those.

spiral and stranger overlap too much in smirke’s whole thing; yes, ‘uncanny valley’ fear is different from ‘your brain is wrong’ fear, but so much of the stranger has developed into ‘can’t believe your senses’ and so much of the spiral has turned into ‘things are Wrong’ that i think a lot of ppl would just. put em together. maybe there’s a list out there that’s a lot stricter abt separating uncanny valley out from the madness stuff, but also even that’s a bit difficult, when u get down to it.

slaughter and hunt? fuck it, violence. just violence. like yeah ok i will say that ‘war’ as portrayed by some of the more hardcore This Is War slaughter statements feels different from the very personal violence of the hunt (largely bcos those focus more on the horror of being forced to do violence when you don’t want to, or the horror of the results of war on a much larger scale), but the smaller-scale sudden violence of like, melanie when she had the bullet, or grifter’s bone? those did not feel radically different from like, murder club, or daisy. the large-scale horrors of war can maybe be separate in some taxonomies, but also not every culture through history would have experienced war on such a HUGE level.

(i think hunt would’ve been more interesting/easily separated from slaughter if it wasn’t entirely violence based? like, the fear of being chased is what should separate it out, but that’s not often the POINT. it’s sometimes the point. but other times it’s just fucking violence. did julia and trevor chase down max mustermann? no, they just attacked him. where is the LINE. there is no line it’s soup.)

just to annoy ol bobby smirke i think every other list should separate out bugs and disease. fuck it.

it’s been pointed out before by someone altho i cannot FIND it rn that vast and buried, while supposedly opposites, actually often feel very similar. i think the fear of being overwhelmed and made small, particularly by a force of nature... that could be just one thing, for some ppl. (yes there’s also buried of just being in rly small spaces but that also feels different than some of the buried statements that are About The Earth? hmmm.)

also i think nobody else uses spiders for manipulation. surely some ppl would lump spiders in with other bugs; some ppl would lump spiders in with being preyed upon; but the association with spiders and manipulation is weird! spiders are so much cooler than that AND ALSO none of the arachnophobes i have known (and i have known... a lot actually) were afraid of spiders manipulating them. what the fuck robert. what the fuck JONNY. mistreatment of spiders...

it’d also be fun to have like. a whole mythology of the fears that’s just demons. looking at you diego molina and ur ‘asag’. 

speaking of desolation, yeah i know that in canon we always get fear of loss/destruction with the fire imagery? but i think that’s just bcos we’re so often dealing with ppl with the same influences. i think it’d be fun for other cultures to have a different symbol of destruction. like, somewhere that sees a lot of monsoons or hurricanes? their destruction fear is water/storm based. somewhere with a lot of earthquakes? earth based. somewhere that just got through a massive plague? disease based (fuck arthur nolan specifically).

...speaking of destruction, is there a fear that ppl will come and take things from you, not to destroy them, just to take them? is there a fear based around that? i do not think there is and surely some culture must have one. like, ok, i guess there’s the rich person fear of that, but also for ppl in small, poor communities who were pillaged a lot or overtaxed by a corrupt ruler? i guess that falls under powerlessness but for a culture that didn’t develop a taxonomy with all of powerlessness lumped under one fear... this might either flavor their destruction/loss fear in a very different way than desolation, or define a new fear for them.

rambly inception thoughts bc i watched this movie for like the fifth time this week and i can’t let it go

i just saw a lil post about an umbrella academy/inception crossover and that au is not really relevant to this but it made me think. i got to wondering whether someone w superpowers would be able to use them in a dream, or if that would violate the suspension of disbelief/make-no-waves rules and call the projections down on u. the specific rules of this mechanism--and of forging, and limbo, and lots of other stuff--have a definitively movie-logic ambiguousness to them, but let’s say that using powers in a dream, even if you have them in real life, stretches belief a little too much and angers the projections. it would also explain why (from a watsonian perspective, at least) dreamsharers don’t just give themselves fantastic abilites to make things easier. (i kinda wanna go off on another tangent about what that implies about who you have fool, be it dreamer or mark or both, and the effect of varying levels of imagination, but few enough people are gonna read this whole thing as is :’))

but then (in this extremely niche and overly specific hypothetical situation, yes, i’m sorry) if powered ppl using real powers in a dream would be too unbelievable, it follows that dreamsharers would have to be at least slightly more boring versions of themselves in a dream, probably less skilled and just less weird. real life is consistently stranger and more unexpected than imagination

this is where this veers off into unrelated territory a lil bit bc then i started imagining the conversation that would happen if Ariadne started figuring this out or if Eames told her. without any effort at good or in-character dialogue, it might go something like this:

A <<so then the stablest/most forgiving dreams would be of the people with the most imagination? like children?>>

E <<probably, but who would go in the mind of a child?>>

A <<u literally make a career made a career out of violating people in a way so profound u’d have to be clinically paranoid to even worry about protecting against it, but u draw the line there? at children? why is it okay to do it to adults?>>

and so on until i started having some characterization hcs. bc i see Eames as the coldest/most ruthlessly pragmatic character in the movie (i’ve had conversations where ppl argue it’s Cobb, but he’s not ruthless. he is, in fact, sabotaging his own career w an overabundance of ruth. he’s just desperate and making some kind of myopic justifications. like that scene early on in the first level? i get the distinct sense that when he’s blowing up at Arthur he’s overcompensating to separate himself from the blame of a situation for which he’s at least 50% but arguably more responsible for. sorry tangent over) and i don’t think he’d worry abt this too much.

he knows that he lives his life in a bit of a moral gray area and unless he wants to make sm srs changes to his lifestyle there’s not a lot of point stressing. he’s not like totally relativistic, bc relativism isn’t that useful and he’s pretty utilitarian (i think these words also have, like, official philosophical definitions but idk anything abt that n i’m not using em that way), but he’s aware that a moral code is a tricky thing, even for ppl who are not international career criminals. rules like “no kids as marks” are easy to follow, and make simple, instinctive sense. i think he’d make a lot of moral decisions js on gut feeling.

in the hypothetical convo above where he tells Ariadne as much, mbe he adds:

<<if u want to talk abt it w someone who’s actually thought abt this, i’m sure Arthur has, but i don’t think it’ll make u feel better>>

bc Arthur is mbe a bit too good at compartmentalizing and justifications (not like Cobb, tho. Arthur is loyal to a fault and dedicated to looking after other ppl in a way he seems generally disinterested in doing for himself), seeing as he’s apparently the kind of person who can cheerfully ID someone’s murderer to their face and then just casually switch topics after like 5 words of explanation.

he’s characterized as v focused on planning/details and thoroughness/coherency, so it tracks that he’d want to articulate/organize his thoughts on Why I Do What I Do, but the subjectivity of his justifications would be especially apparent to Ariadne after this convo w Eames. and like, “convince ur friend to go to therapy” and “follow ur friend around the globe enabling his increasingly aimless and self-destructive mission to break into ppl’s heads for money” are on opposite ends of a spectrum i don’t want to know anything about. js bc this dude gets prissy abt Eames js Feeling Things Out and is convinced he’s Mr. Logic doesn’t mean his logic isn’t absolutely fckn buck-wild.

so Ariadne’s reaction to all this is what? it’s highly unlikely anything could make her give up dreamshare, so. are there legit alternatives to the criminal side of things? in the movie it’s not rly clear. when Dom goes to Miles and says that becoming a fugitive took away his legitimate options for his skills, it seems like that would imply there are, in fact, legitimate options. but then why was Miles only training/able to suggest a normal ass architect and not a dreamshare Architect?

anyway, the point is if legit dreamshare work exists, Ari could hand the work of deciding on ethics and regulations off to a boss or legislation. whether or not she’d choose to do that i think is a matter of personal hc and the movie could support it either way. if on the other hand, tho, only illegal uses for dreamshare exist, she has to find her own moral guidelines in criminal work (i like the hc that Arthur helps her be more selective than a newbie would typically be allowed to be. helps her vet jobs and keep from getting in over her head/beholden to someone. it just seems like something he would do. and mbe his reputation needs a little repair after however long he ran w an increasingly unstable and unreliable Dom Cobb, but if ppl like Eames are still calling him the best pointman he must have enough clout to help Ari get some good jobs). for myself, i think even if there are legit jobs Ari would choose to stay on the illegal side of things anyway, at least at first. she’s addicted to the limitation-free aspect of it, and, in the proud tradition of geniuses and prodigies everywhere, she’s demonstrably bad at taking censure/advice. she has to make her own mistakes. not to mention, her own morals might be a lil wobbly anyway, from how easily and entitledly she invaded Dom’s privacy. like, it turned out to be for the best, but it was still kinda fcked up

Idea for a story: I'm not great for like actual plotlines or full stories i'm more of a character rambling meta kinda person but I think an action-comedy urban fantasy comic with Zauriel as the lead would be REALLY epic. It'd take place in Los Angeles and it borrows some ideas from Constantine: the HellBlazer regarding like the urban magic stuff esp the brief appearance of magic in LA there and it would be mostly more a character driven anthology series w a lot of cameos and appearances from other members of the superhero mystic community like Zatanna and also worlds greatest

Unpopular opinion: I MEAN ONCE AGAIN ZAURIEL ISNT POPULAR ENUFF but forever I think making them be into Catholicsm and loving god is stupid and weak and boring. Lucifer doesnt need to hog the god hating angel card Zauriel can share it too.

oKAY SO im gonna try to not make this too long SJKHJGS !! wendy is a very like . prickly character . shes like a cactus . nd she’s not too fond of letting ppl get close, but the ppl who do manage to get close to her are happie 2 learn she would actually die for them . loyalty is a Huge Huge part of her character, and she cares very deeply abt the people she calls family . shes also v sarcastic nd like . ‘open ur eyes dummy’ .

arthur is a kind of person who lives heavily on false pretenses . like he projects this image bc its an image that he can control nd he jsut Rolls w it , but hes actually someone who likes 2 tease his friends nd be friendly to them ,, hes got Issuez nd is very much the type of person to be like ‘o lol im ok :-)...’ nd prioritize the needs of others 

rafael is , in all honesty , just babey . he studied a lot during high school nd rly pushed himself beyond his limits bc he wants to be able 2 go 2 a good college on scholarship nd get a job 2 support his family , nd hes just ?? very responsible nd sweet but that can also manifest into him taking on more than he should nd burning out . 

piper is a very ,, honestlie kinda sad character kjHGJSJ she spends a lot of time just trying 2 appeal to other ppl bc she knows her interest in the supernatural make her a ‘weird’ person nd she wants to be able 2 have real friends ,, but when she learns 2 let go of this she’s very silly nd always making jokes During The Right time ..

W: Worst month?

february still, but november can eat shit too. xmas is starting to get more annoying and thanksgiving is Worse b/c like, horrible holiday in concept and nothing to celebrate in the least, and it’s alright that people give you food probably but like, the dishes are like, not even the best. nobody likes turkey or yams and yet. and the nightmare of spending time with Family? jesus.....also, it’s just like, you’re facing eons of Winter and it’s already getting cold as shit and when daylight savings begins or ends or whatever and suddenly the sun is down at 4:53pm and it just gets worse from there and it’s just a crap month

well look if you follow me for like a month you probably catch on to a lot of my Interests but i’ll take this chance to tell a recent only-interesting-to-me story

so back in like middle school yrs (2005-2008) i was real into sherlock holmes stuff!! which is easy to forgot b/c the interest kinda continued into college and then [that text post about the ghost of arthur conan doyle sobbing w/ gratitude to bbc sherlock for achieving his dream of making ppl hate sherlock holmes] and i was like well i’m watching this youtube horror series anyways. but like, in those years, prior to the guy ritchie movie and the Modern SH Media Revival that followed, SH was like, real niche. like obviously everyone knows of it but like. beyond that, kinda obscure at that point to be like, currently and actively ~into~ it. but i was out there watching jeremy brett on pbs Mystery slots, seeing multiple hound of the baskervilles adaptations, and lugging our giant “half of a 2-vol dictionary”-sized copy of the complete canon around, and i read the whole thing

i wasn’t super Online prior to 2008 but somehow i stumbled across such a Wildly Niche thing where this dude in peoria would make “comics” by photographing action figures and giving them speech bubbles and would make really specific references to stories and adaptations and it was really funny to me and that’s how i discovered that there was this particular fan culture self-identified as sherlockians where like, i mean really it’s just that you like sherlock holmes obviously but beyond that, there could be your local sherlockian society which i guess is like a book club roughly but also there’d be things like just making up fun things to do based on the stories, like celebrating reichenbach day by doing whatever you want or referecing the musgrave ritual story in which it’s like “follow these precise directions to Find Thing” and then you do act out those directions....thrilling, right? but i doubt anyone expects this victorian-ass interest to be wildly sexy and heartpounding stuff. and it’s this well-known wide-reaching media so you know there’s room for stuff like books and papers and stuff and just do whatever you want, have this specific nerd community and make up your own funny traditions. and anyways, this guy had a whole blog about it in addition to his Comics, and i’d email him sometimes with questions about stuff, and i think it was from there that i first found out about The 2009 Movie existing, which Was thrilling, b/c it was so out of the blue. gr8 stuff

anyways i’ve remember the existence of this one guy and his blog in year since, but it was only a couple nights ago that i was like “well let’s look it up” and discovered that he’s been updating the blog super regularly the whole time in this literal decade since. i also followed him on twitter and dropped a comment on a post which i know he saw b/c it was anonymous and thus required moderator approval before being posted. like, you love to see it. and even though i loathe bbc sh still and have gone through Other Interests in the meantime, every big interest i’ve ever had is still in there mostly dormant yanno. anyways i thought it was cool. i’m glad for this guy who i last talked to when i was like 13 and now i’m 25.
