15. what wip are you taking into next year with you?

im the type of person that can only work on like one thing at a time so the only fic im working on rn is my enstars bigbang piece.... i will surely finish it before the end of this month but then i want to revise it reading the whooole thing again and see if i can improve anything before the posting date in february so ig that can take a bit longer and make it into next year. i also have a few ideas for new fics to write next year but since its nothing too especific and havent started writing them i dont think i can put them here lol

20. which work of yours have you reread the most?

oof good question. i read and reread all my fics way too much while writing them but after having posted them i normally only reread those that arent too long and not very often tbh (i should do it more often i just. forget aldjfk) but i dont think theres any one in particular ive reread more than others....

27. what do you listen to while writing?

i dont really listen to anything while im writing it just distracts me too much and doesnt let me get completely into the story bc the music doesnt normally match well with whats happening on the scene im writing so it throws me off a bit.... ive tried in the past with some background music but in the end its better to me to write in silence

Btw i love them! The new format (for poa) can get a bit confusing (since you arent inserting the whole quotes from the book anymore) but its manageable and i love it already!

I hope they soon try to connect the dots to their own universe like for example i think they definitely would have checked to see if the chamber of secrets is real in their uni or the past events like with tom riddle, maybe something about now knowing that there are acromantula in the forbidden forest that they go to every month, taking note of the horcrux/es and going to find them in their universe

I know right now your focus is getting them to react to the books but i hope they actually do something with the information they have soon! I dont think they would have let stuff like the chamber of secrets being real or the horcruxes be forgotten

Im also very much dreading when they get to the part where remus is in a relationship and then married and then having a child with tonks (cause thats a HUGE deal like omg)

I dont know where you are going with this series yet (i hope u do tell us if u havent already, no pressure ofc) but it has huge potential and it could get way bigger than them just reacting to the books (all the information they will get can and will help them now in their universe)

Hi! I do have plans bigger than them simply reacting to the stories but I’m going to keep these ideas to myself since I’m not sure how they may change with time/as the story progresses.

I don’t have an uploading schedule, mostly because my work schedule is unpredictable, but also because I write & stare at a screen all day, so there are times when the idea of doing more of that is unthinkable lol.

I’d like to get the next chapter posted ahead of or by Halloween to ‘mark’ the notable fandom date, but I can guarantee exactly when. Sorry!

i've actually been trying to find your blog for weeks to not only binge atp for the millionth time but to reblog it with comments as i finally made time to do it 😅 i'm sorry for being part of the problem!

i'm a writer (yikes i know) who's dealt with a similar issue on wattpad where the only interactions i got were people adding my stories to reading lists, so likes are super rare and i literally don't know the last time i got a comment or a reply to a comment (and i doubt ny notifications go back far enough to see 🙃). it's one reason why i've kind of stopped putting stuff on there (again: yikes i know).

yet i'm terrible at commenting?? especially on here because i always want to write an essay everytime because i know how much work goes into writing something as short as a blurb so i feel bad about writing a 'i love this!' even though i personally enjoy those comments? no one will be more pissed or confused about me being affected by yet contributing to this problem more than me. again, i'm sorry. i know much a heart emoji means and how much silence hurts.

i adore atp and your writing but never knew how to put it into words (ironic). i'm angry at myself for not supporting my fellow writers especially seeing how many fic writers are talking about the lack of comments are discouraging and angry for contributing to this problem. and to anyone reading this or other fic writers' vents, non-fic writers like me and published writers are having issues getting feedback. (hence why i said no one is more pissed about my lack of comments than me)

i have a fanfiction sideblog (which i will not share bc there's shit on there that's between me, the author who wrote it, and god) bc i didn't want to reblog on the account i post my own writings on, mainly bc i feel like it will annoy people if i reblog every fic i read bc... there are a lot lmao. so first tip is maybe run a sideblog where you just reblog fics you've read and loved?

second tip is to have a queue running if you're scared it will annoy people?

i have a system where i reblog when there's a fic i see that i wanna read but i dont have the time for yet and tag it with 'to read' then i'll reblog it again with insight/comments. that way the post is in circulation and even if i dont get to it ever, i've still helped out he author?

i hope you don't feel too guilty. it's something we all have to work more on to make sure writers feel more appreciated! i genuinely dont have any vendetta or ill feelings towards you or anyone, i just choose to write for myself now <3

yesterday i spent the day preparing a bunch of food things because i'm going to my parents' house at 10 am to help my mom make tamales and to make pozole, so i had to make a red chile sauce, a green tomatillo sauce, and i had to prepare jackfruit for my tamales since i'm vegan and my family is not. then my sister and i ran around to several different stores trying to go buy some sparkling juice for her children so they could ring in the new year with us so we all said happy new year and then parted ways, and i spent the rest of my night in my room catching up on tv (hawkeye) and eating popcorn haha!

the truth is, i'm not a religious person anymore (or ever was really, i hated mosque and everything about it lmao), and wouldn't really consider myself a muslim except for the way that being muslim shaped my experience in a country that is largely rooted in christianity. so i never really had a relationship with religion that served as an impediment to my gender discovery. and i can't speak on the religious context of history of the bindi, but i know obviously there are spiritual reasons behind why you all wear them, and i would say focus on that and how that serves you and your beliefs rather than thinking about the gender divide.

also! i don't read larry fic very often (i know, it's crazy) and my recall for what i do read is absolute trash but in the spirit of rntm day coming up soon on the 4th (that's the first actual honest to god larry fic i read (i wasn't even a larrie yet, i just kept seeing everyone post about it and was like... i wanna get these references 🥴)) i'm going to suggest that one!!

yall this is hella fucking generic but PRACTISE. theres a reason almost literally every writer on tumblr gives the advise of “practise practise practise” and that reason is it works. practise doesnt mean ‘oh just write bc youll automatically get better over time’ it means ‘write bc if you dont, you wont figure out what you need to improve.’ did yall know that i literally had no sentence variation in the past? i started every sentence with [character name] or [character pronoun] and i didnt realise until i was 15/16 and i only realised bc i started writing a lot.

i think there’s a fear of failure with new writers. there’s this lingering doubt of  “what if its not good?” and boy howdy i will answer that question right fucking now. it wont be good. when i compare my current work to my earlier work, my earlier work sucked fucking shit. i spelled soldier with a fucking ‘j’ and i had no idea what the hell a point of view was. and thats okay. whoever tells you that youre going to perfect writing is a fucking liar. there is no perfecting writing. 20 years from now, imma look at the writing from today and im gonna think it sucks shit. writing is a process. its a craft. you get better and better over time and the way you get better is by experimenting w different styles, different genres, different ways of writing.

and the only way you can experiment and improve is through practise. in video games, especially rpgs (which are my favourite kind of video games), you struggle in the early game. youre at a low level, you dont have good equipment, you have a hard time moving to the next area. but the only way you progress is by grinding, gaining levels, and getting stronger. same w writing. if youre a level 1 writer, just starting out, no idea what to do, just experiment. fuck around a bit. write crackships, write rarepairs, write niche self-indulgent reader/character fics. at the end of the day, you should write for yourself. its good and cool if other people like your stuff and validate all your hard work, but at the end of the day, the one who should enjoy your writing the most is yourself.

you WILL mess up and you WILL struggle, but thats the only way you can improve. i struggle with pacing the most. still do. but others might have pacing down pat and struggle instead with word choice or pov or something else. cant figure out where you need to improve if you dont write, so just practise and worry about all the fine print later

⭐️- how do you get your inspiration? =

this is definitely not universal, but i just sit on my bed, close my eyes, and meditate. cycle through all my emotions and thoughts and filter them out. then i just toss everything out the damn window. like. id just meditate for a while, focus on breathing, on experiencing the present, picture a field and a tree and myself and breathe. thoughts fly by and i let them happen but dont focus on it.

meditating gives me some semblance of emotional control bc i normally have none, and it gives me kind of this space. this safe space that only exists for me and me alone. so i use that space to let the world drift away. just me and my thoughts and sometimes, those thoughts end up being good writing ideas. but i usually meditate for a set amount of time. like 15 minutes or 30 minutes so i dont write until i finish meditating.

then when i get out of my headspace, i open up my laptop and see what i remember. thinking too hard about something causes it to muddy up. same with art. in digital art, artists flip the canvas to refresh their eyes, see if there’s anything weird or wonky about the illustration that they normally dont see bc theyve gotten used to it. flipping the canvas is like giving our eyes a jumpstart and lets us see what we could do better. in traditional art, its turning the canvas this way and that or repositioning yourself. meditating is like that. a break. a cleanse. a kind of pause where you dont think about anything and just try to process what you already have. you relax and kind of let yourself float down a river of thoughts and sometimes, a fish would jump out of that river and youd go “hey, thats a good idea. i should try that” so when you get out of the river, youre refreshed and ready to go.

same principle with showers. more ideas come to you in the shower when you dont have anything to write with bc youre not thinking about it. youre not focusing on finding inspiration or motivation so ideas naturally flow through you. you know that feeling when you want to do x then someone comes along and says “hey you should do x” and suddenly all motivation to do x leaves? same w your brain. focus too much on “i should be writing” or “i want inspiration” and its never gonna come. just let things happen. at least, thats how i do it. some people might get inspiration by reading or watching tv. everyones different so if thats not what works out for you, dont feel pressured to try my method

💘- what’s your favorite AU? Least favorite? =

magic au. specifically fantasy au set in like a pre-modern era. shows like avatar where theres all this magic and fantastical beasts and so on and so forth. semi-modern like six of crows and nevernight are great too. i want that magic to be woven into people’s lives. harry potter is okay but there’s like this separation between magic and muggle. there’s this feeling of “magic” but like as a tool. like a spoon or a gun or a shovel. i want magic au’s that are INTEGRATED with the world its set in.

like in atla, earth kingdom people have trains they move with bending while fire nation people have machines powered by heat and steam. both correspond to their bending and makes sense for the world they live in. but if your plot is like harry potter and its less worldbuilding and more action, then there’s this book series called seasons rising (read it. so good) where there’s a bunch of spells but the spells have character. the people using the spells GIVE it character and it feels much more intimate. pokemon does the whole fantasy mixed w reality better. give two trainers the exact same pokemon and by the time that pokemon reaches lvl 50, its gonna have a different moveset, different fight style, etc bc it was shaped by the world and people around it. i like harry potter but tbh it could have been so much better

for the least favourite au, it’s A/B/O i dont like the whole “omegas are only good for breeding hurr durr” and “alphas are violent and aggressive and cant control themselves around omegas” thing and it squicks me out. major squick. i read the original harry potter squick (THAT one. yeah. you know the one) and i still hate a/b/o more. i get why people like it, and there are one or two fics set in a/b/o au that i enjoy reading, but as a whole, i severely dislike a/b/o fics.

the themes are squick, the character dynamics get so messed up, and shipping dynamics (bc a/b/o fics usually have shipping) just get so blown out of proportion. there are so many a/b/o fics that turn ooc or the character interpretations radically change or something else. no hate against a/b/o fans bc yall are amazing for writing/drawing yalls au. there are things that you can only do in this setting and exploring those things can be incredibly fun for people, but for me personally, its not an au i like to visit.

(BNHA) Viper. its my first serious attempt at fanfic in YEARS and its my baby. currently has 7 chapters, i havent updated it in a while bc im hyperfocused on ts rn, but i love it to bits. its just all of my fav bnha fics crammed into one fic. quirkless kind of villain izuku with stain as a mentor as they work together to bring light to the injustices of hero society and where bakugos bullying has visible and long-lasting repercussions? sign me the fuck up. you can read it on ao3 HERE bc its not on tumblr. kind of fast-paced, has a lot more action scenes than anything else ive written. heavy plot-wise but has a lot of humour and comedy to break things up

(Kimetsu no Yaiba) I Pray To God He Hears You. not related to my other kny fic oleander which is a multichap retelling au. iptghhy is a standalone one-shot and kind of a character study on one giyuu tomioka. i love him so much. giyuu is my baby and i adore him. so of course i wrote a sad fic focusing on him. well technically, the fic focuses on giyuu AND his relationships.  SPOILERS for chapters 130 and 131 of the manga. focuses mostly on giyuu and sabito, but there’s a fair bit of giyuu and tanjiro and urokodaki.  you can read it HERE bc this is also not on tumblr. also deals with heavy things but more emotion-wise since it doesnt have that much of a plot. loss. grief. moving on. survivors guilt. that kind of stuff.  very sad. hurt but with comfort, especially at the end.

(Sanders Sides) Logan’s Birthday Fic: Logicality. just what the title says. i wrote 5 different fics and published them all on logans bday but the logicality one received the most feedback and honestly? the cutest of the bunch. its gonna be crossposted onto ao3 but for now, you can read it HERE on my ts sideblog. theres no plot since its literally just domestic and relationship fluff. and puns. patton is in the fic, theres gonna be puns. nothing but good things and warm feelings bc logan deserves it.

Ho there! Im (barely) a writer too, I havent written for awhile though and Im tryin to get advice from as many authors possible. How do you (bluntly put) keep from absolutely hating your work and falling down a perfectionist spiral? Im so afraid of making characters ooc, describing too much, i never know how to keep a story flowing. Everytime I try to write stories I feel like punching myself because I dont feel original.. secondly, oh my gosh, such hard questions. 

honestly though i might not be the best person to answer the first question because there is not one ounce of perfectionist in me. not one. i’m about as far from a perfectionist as one can get lmao. i’ve never really hated my own work, and idk if it makes me selfish or horribly conceited or what, but i haven’t. of course i later see things i could’ve done better, notice some things that could be improved on, but i just kinda go “meh. next one will be better!” because it’s all a learning process, y’know? it’s a route you’re taking, and every step takes you further! 

and idek, maybe i don’t hate what i write because 90% of what i write is horribly self-indulgent. i write what i wanna read! if i want that huddling for warmth bedsharing fic that a million other people have already done i’ll damn well write yet another one. because i want to. trying to force yourself to be artistic or creative or... idk, anything, on the expense of finding enjoyment in what you do, is probably not gonna make you as a writer very happy. and of course one should strive to improve, i don’t mean to say it’s all happiness and joyjoyjoy, but most of it probably should be?

as for characterizations, just try to familiarize yourself with the source material to the best of your abilities. and don’t be afraid to ask for help! it’s priceless to get opinions from people you trust! OR even just strangers, sometimes, but remember to take their opinions with a grain of salt. usually characterizations especially is the thing where there’s a bit of leeway, where there’s room for your own interpretations, and no one’s opinions are 100% pure gospel truth. so, learn as much as you can, ask for opinions, but at the same time trust yourself. you can do it!

when it comes to originality, you’re just putting too much pressure on yourself. nothing in this time and age is truly 100% original. everything has been written about, from several different angles, and if you just wait for an entirely original idea it’s never gonna happen. but that’s alright! that’s all fine! what matters is that you write your version of it. i guarantee you that you’ll bring something new to the table, even if it’s just a phrasing of something or a little detail here and there. someone will think your version is great, even if they’ve read the same idea before by someone else. so yeah, originality is overrated lmao.

i don’t know if this now was in any way coherent advice but asdfjkgn. i don’t usually have a problem with liking my own stuff, i’m just always 100% freaking terrified that everyone else will hate what i make. but i crave the fandom interaction more than i fear being shot down, so lmao, that helps.

mm, totally feel and validate. im bi myself and i completely get the sl*tty trope and it’s a really bad trope for so many reasons. i think for me, this was more a reading of their charts than their sexualities, but i see why regardless that could come off as problematic (insert “when its been 5 minutes and ur queer and u havent talked about astrology yet” meme lmao).

aries is super enthusiastic/confident/passionate/tends to throw themselves into everything with gusto. for this particular hc i wrote that as wheein wanting to have a lot of diverse romantic relationships.

cap has the tendency to be more exacting in their relationships and have a need for logic/order/competition. i wrote that into byul being her own biggest critic, always wanting the best, being more cautious about things, etc. i see how that could reflect negatively on lesbians in general.

i didn’t mean to associate wheein with being sl*tty or sleeping around (and having a lot of sex isn’t a bad thing either)–just, you know: you have friends who always have a s/o vs friends who just don’t like relationships for some reason. i def know caps who date a lot, and i know a few aries who never date, so as you know, it really depends! i’ll keep it in mind for the future though, thank you for your message!
