i'm bored so it's time to throw rocks*, here are the types of reality tv/game shows i think the inquisition companions would watch
cassandra would watch one of those romance ones, like too hot to handle or love is blind, and get really, really invested. she's active on the reddits for her favorite shows. all of the cheesy, painfully heterosexual-but-strangely-sanitized reality TV horniness works well on her, she's the intended audience 100%. she's genuinely sad about it when couples break up after the show ends.
varric likes interpersonal dramas and gossip and backstabbing, he watches the vh1 dating shows. he knows most of it is fake, but that's what he likes about it, and he appreciates the classics. anything with "of love" in it, he loves it, he's there. he thinks newer shows work too hard to convince people they're actually real because he thinks embracing the fakeness makes it more fun.
solas has been watching reality tv since the OG: survivor. he's seen every season. he has very strong opinions about play strategies and a personal ranking of the best players of all time just ready to go if you just ask. he's convinced he would win if he was on it, but deep deep down he knows he would never get the votes to win at the end because he'd be seen as a villain and won't apply.
vivienne thinks she's above this kind of garbage tv, but she actually really likes the masked singer. she's pretty good at guessing the celebrities, but she doesn't put much effort into guessing after a point. she's in it entirely to relax and quietly fantasize about being on it herself, because so much of her life is about playing games of intrigue and survival and perception. she records the episodes and skips most of the judging because she doesn't think the judges are funny and gets annoyed when they make stupid guesses.
sera likes the obstacle course-type shows like wipeout and the floor is lava. anything where people have to come up with creative solutions and also might get hit with a giant thing made of foam and get smacked around like a rag doll. sera has been trying to convince people to team up with her and apply for this type of show for ages and it never works out. she also likes the really weird off-brand ones that only ever get one season, like who wants to be a superhero or opposite worlds.
blackwall likes the circle. he always quietly roots for the catfish. no reason.
iron bull is a drag race superfan. come on, one of them had to be. he's been watching since the season 1 vaseline filter days. he approaches each new season with the masculine seriousness of a suburban dad planning a fantasy sports lineup and correctly predicts every winner three episodes in. he would absolutely volunteer for a makeover episode if he could. his favorite queens are usually the pageant queens; he likes the sparkly ones, and the pageant queens always end up covered in rhinestones.
dorian loves innovation and being judgy, so he loves shark tank and anything similar. he enjoys episodes with absolutely terrible inventions just as much as the good ones, and is the kind of viewer who actually will go ahead and buy something he saw on the show -- including the really stupid ones, because he gives them to his friends as joke gifts.
cole watches those shows that are equal parts talent competition and sappy backstories, like american idol, x-factor, the voice, stuff like that. he always cries a little when someone does a ballad. he never votes because he can never decide who deserves to win the most, and he doesn't watch the results shows because they make him too sad.
cullen watches HGTV and gets belligerent if you point out that house hunters is fake. unclear if that's because he thinks you're being a wet blanket or because it was news to him and he doesn't want to admit it.
josephine likes strategy and competition, but the grime, physical danger, and "eat this gross thing" challenges of survivor aren't fun to her. instead, she's really into big brother. josephine is convinced that she would win big brother if she was ever on it, and she's correct, but she can't take the time off work.
leliana is an OG ANTM fan. she'll dabble in other shows that center on makeup and fashion, but she always ends up going back to the classics and the older seasons, as she feels like the current era of ANTM is too gimmicky and self-aware. the human rights violations are allowed if they make good TV.
*this is for fun don't actually throw things at me please
**also if you like this and think "i'm gonna give this fine person a follow because they're so funny about dragon age", i made a new DA sideblog at @skyholdstarbucks where i'd post anything similar to this in the future

My prediction about the next four books SJM will publish
I wanted to get this down somewhere, in part to process my angst about the possibility of what may come last in this next cluster of book releases 😫 but also to record the plot and character threads I am seeing as important heading into the next stretch of books SJM will release.
This includes HOFAS, ACOTAR, and TOG spoilers so it's after the break.
DISCLAIMER: These are just my guesses based on various interviews SJM has given both before and after the HOFAS release — THE ONLY SERIES BOOK THAT'S CONFIRMED IN THIS LIST IS ACOTAR5 BEING NEXT, and with that one, the main characters and plot threads I'll mention have also not yet been confirmed (beyond an avalanche of textual evidence 👀)
So, here are my predictions, circa 1.5 weeks after HOFAS was released:
➡️NEXT: ACOTAR5 - Az/Gwyn + Nesta and the Valkyries (which should also include Mor, ideally in a shared storyline with Emerie), Illyria / Ramiel / the Prison (and maybe a return of the pegasuses to Prythian), Gwydion and Truth Teller (not to mention the other two Made blades Nesta forged in ACOSF - also will Narben make an appearance? 👀), and I also think the first part of the Autumn Court drama may be told in this book - the truth about what happened between Mor and Eris, Beron's ongoing treachery, and Beron may die in this book making Eris High Lord (though some of these items may also be in ACOTAR6 instead - I do think the Mor and Eris story needs to come out in ACOTAR5 though, for Az to make peace with his 500 years of pining for her)
➡️FOLLOWED BY: A Throne of Glass crossover book - Shifter Fae + humans, more history and context about when the ancient Erilea Fae world-jumped to Midgard and served the Asteri, a story that creates threads and connections (of some kind, no idea how, and not sure which ToG characters it would entail) to Lidia (deer shifter with fire magic a la Aelin), Tharion (and the Mer as a people - ToG stans, remind me, were there mer in the ToG series at all? I'm pretty sure Rigelus says they hailed from the same world as the wolves and other Midgard shifters - I've read ToG in full but not as closely as ACOTAR and CC), and Ithan (wolf shifter with ice magic a la Dorian)
➡️THEN I AM THINKING: CC4: House of Many Waters - This would be the continuation of the story threads SJM did not resolve or finish by the end of HOFAS: Lidia's "service" to the Ocean Queen (and more RuhnLidia story with Brann and Ace 😍), Tharion/Sathia with Flynn and their earth magic / Avallen and the pegasuses, Ithan as the new Prime of the Wolves (and something with Perry - why did the antidote fade for her so fast?), Firstlight Zero, widespread distribution of the antidote, Ariadne (where did she go??!), and maybe more portal hopping to Prythian for Bryce, Hunt, Ember, and Randall (OH and maybe Ruhn here too, to get him in the same room as Rhys 👀) to further develop the cross-world friendships we saw forming in HOFAS
➡️WHICH MEANS FOURTH IN SJM'S AIRPLANE TAXI LINE WOULD BE (SOBS): ACOTAR6 - Elain/Lucien, Band of Exiles, Firebird retelling, Koschei, the mortal queens, and the conclusion of the big magical conflict that began with the finding of the Dread Trove in ACOSF, not to mention the Archeron sisters finally acknowledging and healing all of their familial baggage that was born from their collective and generational hardships from their time as humans (so Elain also coming to terms with her Seer powers and being Fae / no longer human - also answering the question: What happened when Elain went into the Cauldron?), I also think some of the Autumn Court drama would play out in this story Helion/Lady Autumn and Lucien's heritage (Day Court heir?), as well as more information about Papa Archeron from the time period of ACOWAR when Lucien traveled with him (LOTS of processing complex and problematic parents in this one!)
Again, these are JUST MY IDEAS - the ToG book guess is based on SJM saying after ACOTAR5 she's excited about the world her next book will be in which she implied was not the CC or ACOTAR world, and which will be emotional for her because of "who may pop up" - if that doesn't scream a return to her to the ToG universe then I don't know what would.
Then the 3rd and 4th predictions follow from that 2nd one being ToG and what I think she may focus on in it to add layers to her crossover - which seems like something she would want to do after how much work she's put into it so far.
I think there's a stronger and deeper fanbase for ACOTAR6 than there will be for CC4, so I think that could impact a decision to write and release CC4 first (since us ACOTAR stans would wait decades for the conclusion of that story and still buy a bazillion copies of it).
WHICH MEANS (SOBS), if these books are released one every 1.5 years on average... It may be quite a few years until we get our Elucien book 😭 ACOMAF came out in 2016. It would be PAST 2026 when ACOTAR6 gets released, over 10 years, until we get to see what actually comes of Elain's and Lucien's mating bond, if the above winds up bring true.
I swear, Eluciens are going to get the trophy for longest wait to see these two in their endgame, bless our patient souls 🏆
(There is always a chance the last two in the list will be in reverse order, with ACOTAR6 followed by CC4, but even if that winds up being the case, it would still be three books from now for ACOTAR6.)

Kingdom of Ash
Struggling to get into this one
Awww Rowan and aelins babies
This book feels like all my sweet babies are grown up 😭
Omfg is Yrene pregnant?? Is this the book they all have babies? Idk if I’m gonna like that
Dorian is gonna learn how to shift!! Wait last fall? This all happened so fast! 8 books of drama in like two years?? Jesus
I’m 100 pages in and needing more!! The last two books ended with so much action to be had it feels like nothing is happening!
Okay Manon is looking for a way to connect with the Cochran and her great grandma literally told her ‘we got our fire cuz Brannon GALATHYNIYS gave it to our queen your great great great great great grandma’ and you’re literally allied with Aelin Galathynius….. I read that and said ‘whoop there it is’
Yay Aelin is back!! Taking her scars is FUCCKKKED
I have been slacking on note taking but I’m like 400 pages in now and Aelin and Yrene finally met!!!!! I’m so ready for Aelin to start kicking ass again!
Oh and I hope Lysandra is okay….
So many story lines finally coming together!
Queen of witches🥹
Okay I’m getting sick of Aelin not using her power!! People are DYING Aelin! Get it together miss ma’am
When is it gonna be revealed that Elide had dope powers? I know it’s gonna happen
Okay Elide your man just got cut down, now would be the time to be a powerful badass
What a stupid reason for Aelin to not be using her powers. You’re literally at war lol
Manon and Dorian always get me!!! Ugh she loves him and just wants him to stay and not sacrifice himself!! Me toooooo!!
Forget any bad thing I’ve ever said about Elide and Lorcan, they’re precious 😭😭😭
Why doesn’t Yrene use the tower to cure all the valg
Don’t ask me why I go over huge plot points and don’t feel the need to document my emotions but Lorcan gives Elide a foot rub and I’m 😯🤭📝✍️ But seriously me too girl, a man giving you a foot rub is sensual as hell iykyk lol
The way that could’ve been so hot and SJM just blue balls the shit out of the reader. It’s fine I’m fine. She just got my heart racing just to go into one of Aelin’s fucked up nightmares 👍🏻 cool cool cool
Aelin and Dorian have all 3 word keys…
No one has died yet and I don’t want anyone to!!! I’m so scared I have 250 pages left, I know what feelings are coming for me I just don’t know why yet wait did Dorian learn how to use portals from Maeve!?!? Could he transport the army. My boy is the most powerful mf in the books
Not Abraxos. Bitch I’ll throw this book out the window. PETRAH!!!!! Bitch that was So badass fuck Iskra
Wtf!!!!! The entire 13!?!? No I fucking can’t wtf!!! Seriously what the fuck
Waaaahh😭Dorian and Chaol
They’re not wasting time on a vote… really?
I’m hyperventilating reading this unfold. Please don’t kill Dorian or Aelin for this stupid gate
‘My name is Aelin Ashryver Galathynius and I will not be afraid’ WAAAAAAHH 😭
The king saving Dorian and telling Aelin her parents are proud 🥲 I’m not ok
Snow capped mountains under shining stars. Where A winged Fae male stood beside a heavily pregnant female, gazing at those very stars. 👀👀👀👀
Wow Rhys saved her
Chapter 100 wow I’m so proud of myself
So quick recap: Stones are gone no longer in play and gate is shut meaning erawan can’t ever return to his brothers of bring them to him. BUT he and maeve are still strong scary muthafuckas who have like 100k soldiers a bunch of witches and 6 spider fuckers cool 👍🏻
Oh no Murtaugh
It’s about time Lysandra and Aedion! You’ve literally lived eachother for like 4 books now
Aelin has missed her entire war. It’s literally her war on her land and she’s been absent for like all of it.. I’m glad she saved Anielle but her own home needed her weeks ago
Darrow naming Evangeline his heir got me all teary eyed and shit
Omfg Gavriel!!!! No no no why do I even read SJM books they just hurt me
All the battle scenes are so bleak, they’re getting smeared in this war!! I don’t see how they’re going to pull through tbh I’m waiting for a big Aelin scheme but idk if I can take another 100+ pages of them getting they butts whooped
Ugh ‘And she will not be afraid’ that’s gonna stick with me forever
I’m so close! They did it! Chaols reading a letter from his mom and his wife literally saved the world 😭
I’m unwell.

💖💔
💖 [What made you start writing?]
just answered this one but. to go a bit further into it, i decided to pursue writing as 'slightly more than a hobby' because i've always had a lot of trouble connecting with the people around me, socially, and making stories (and art) has been about the only way i've managed to create lasting, meaningful bonds with people. it's kind of like a preview of the actual person behind the scruffy, awkward, shaky exterior. i've always struggled with self-worth, so it's me trying to redeem myself for being. uh. me... and giving love in a way that people might actually want to receive it.
💔 [Is there a fic of yours that broke your heart?]
as in, which story put me through the wringer while writing it? that would be We The Sunset. both Cullen and Dorian have so much trauma to overcome and they want so badly to do right by each other after doing a lot of wrong in their lives. i actually wasn't sure i was going to be able to give them a remotely happy ending, but Dorian came around in the 11th hour. after going through all 5 stages of grief first, of course, drama queen that he is.

those of a more metaphysical & occult subject matter
or those about more controversial topics, such as Extraterrestrials, so-called “conspiracy theories”, and the like (Problem!? Your loss. I don’t see why I shouldn’t look into these topics. It certainly is interesting, and it’s quite arrogant to assume we have it all figured out. Besides, no one says you have to believe anything you read, but it sure can’t hurt to approach things with a more open mind, and to just look where evidence leads us, when it presents itself.)
SHOWS
Fantasy

FANDOM QUESTIONS
DO YOU PREFER REAL-LIFE OR ANIMATED SHOWS?
Both, although there is a definite bias towards the former.
With the latter it greatly depends on the overall quality of the show, as well as the style in which it is presented.
WHAT WAS YOUR FIRST FANDOM?
As a child I had quite some:
Disney Ducks, Pippi Longstocking, Ronja Rovarsdóttir, Princess Fantaghirò, Queen Millenia, and The Addams Family.
While I never was a gamer myself, I very much loved to watch others play games - especially the classic Sonic games, as well as the Super Mario ones … which you can (somewhat) call a childhood fandom of mine, too.
WHAT’S THE LONGEST YOU’VE EVER BEEN IN A FANDOM? WHAT FANDOM WAS IT?
I'm in the Star Wars fandom since the age of twelve, which, in fact, was some years before the prequels came out.
WHAT WAS THE FIRST THING YOU EVER CONTRIBUTED TO A FANDOM?
A drawing of Princess Leia, if I remember correctly.
A PERSON WHO GOT YOU INTO A FANDOM. WHAT FANDOM DID THEY PULL YOU INTO?
@mikeilo got me interested in Prince Phobos (W.I.T.C.H.) several years ago, but to say that I was “involved” in the fandom is a bit too much. It was more about this particular character, though.
NAME A FANDOM YOU DIDN’T CARE / THINK  ABOUT UNTIL YOU SAW IT ALL OVER TUMBLR.
No idea.
Tbh, I hardly search for fandom stuff on Tumblr - given experience showed me that the majority here and I don’t get along, taste-wise.
HAS TUMBLR CAUSED YOU TO STOP LIKING ANY FANDOMS? IF SO, WHICH AND WHY?
No, why should I let a community affect my love for a fandom!? It’s not the fandoms’ / characters’ / authors’ fault that some people are just plain disagreeable and obtrusive.
If anything, it has just reinforced my aversion against the things I disliked from the get-go - especially if there is some “activist” fanaticism, connected with aggressive, proselytizing behaviour involved.
HOW DO YOU FEEL ABOUT THE OTHER PEOPLE IN YOUR CURRENT FANDOM(S)?
Ambivalent.
There are some obnoxious brats, which should be ignored at best. Drama is a waste of time and energy!
Then again, there are also some very nice people out there.
Most of the time I prefer to have just a few contacts, anyway - i.e. like-minded ones I & my preferences & convictions get along with. Those, I do appreciate greatly, though.
5 FAVOURITE CHARACTERS FROM 5 DIFFERENT FANDOMS.
Star Wars
Darth Vader / Anakin Skywalker, Leia Organa, Padmé Amidala, Luke Skywalker, Mara Jade-Skywalker, Ahsoka Tano, Satine Kryze, Bo-Katan Kryze, Merrin, Asajj Ventress, Obi-Wan Kenobi, Qui-Gon Jinn, Dagan Gera, Santari Khri, Cal Kestis, Arc Trooper Fives, Captain Rex, Hondo Ohnaka, Greez Dritus, Firmus Piett, Chewbacca, R2D2
Tolkien
Mairon / Sauron (but only my headcanon version … the canon one is just awful + the popular fanon one is insufferable, sry), Nienna, Aulë, Olórin, Aiwendil, Rúmil of Tirion, Finrod, Maglor, Thranduil, Tauriel, Lúthien, Galadriel, Nerdanel, Haleth, Eowyn, Faramir, Aragorn, Kili, Samwise
Harry Potter
Severus Snape, Luna Lovegood, Fred & George Weasley, Hagrid, Andromeda Tonks, Regulus Black, Leta Lestrange, the genuinely nice Slytherin students that JKR forgot to mention, Queenie Goldstein, Newt Scamander
Avatar - The last Airbender
Ozai, Ursa, Zuko, Iroh, Katara, Toph, Suki, Sokka, Ty Lee, Aang, Kyoshi, Roku, Master Piandao, Cabbage Guy, Appa
Legend of Zelda
Link, Zelda, Midna, Impa, Purah, Robbie, Urbosa, Riju, Patricia, Revali, Teba, Tulin, Kass, Mipha, Sidon, Yona, Dorephan, Daruk, Yunobo, Bludo, Deku Tree, Terrako, Epona, some Koroks & Bokos (they're a bit anoying, but cute)
Only five characters per section, wasn’t it!? … Nevermind.
A CHARACTER YOU USED TO DISLIKE BUT EVENTUALLY LIKED
Jaime Lannister (book version)
A CHARACTER YOU USED TO LIKE BUT EVENTUALLY DISLIKED
Loki
THE CHARACTER EVERYONE ELSE LOVES THAT YOU DON'T

WHAT ARE YOUR FAVOURITE FEMALE / MALE SHIPS?
Mairon & Morvanië (an OC of mine - the “Vani” I happen to mention sometimes)
Finrod Felagund & Amarië

Aragorn Elessar & Arwen Undómiel

Obi-Wan Kenobi & Satine Kryze
Dagan Gera & Santari Khri
Cal & Merrin
Spock & Uhura
Ivo Robotnik & Adelia Sigrún Sharpe (another OC)
Ozai & Ursa
Zuko & Katara
Link & Zelda
King Boo & Hellen Gravely
Hades & Persephone
Vlad Dracula & Mina Harker
Gomez & Morticia Addams
Rhett Butler & Scarlett O'Hara
Mr. Darcy & Lizzie Bennett
Spike & Buffy Summers
Severus Snape & Lily Evans
WHAT ARE YOUR FAVOURITE MALE / MALE OR FEMALE / FEMALE SHIPS?
Albus Dumbledore / Gellert Grindelwald
Willow Rosenberg / Tara Maclay
I can’t say that I’m all that emotionally involved in any of these, though, other than finding them somewhat interesting regarding the dynamic between the characters.
If these weren’t canonical pairings already, I would probably never even have thought of them as a romantic shipping constellation at all, as it’s a theme that neither concerns, nor interests me when it comes to the dynamic between characters of the same sex.
Friendships are an entirely different matter, though. But that wasn’t the subject of this question here, was it!?
DO YOU HAVE ANY 3-WAY SHIPS? IF SO, WHAT?
No! I don’t like this theme at all.
A PAIRING YOU SHIP THAT YOU DON’T THINK ANYONE ELSE SHIPS.
My OC / canon ones … alas. T_T
WHAT’S A SHIP THAT YOU WANT TO SHIP PUBLICLY, BUT EVERYONE ON TUMBLR HATES IT, SO YOU KEEP YOUR MOUTH SHUT ABOUT IT?
I’m just doing my thing. If anyone doesn’t like it then that isn’t my problem.
EXAMPLES OF NON-SEXUAL/-ROMANTIC RELATIONSHIP DYNAMICS THAT YOU LIKE
PARENT & CHILD
Darth Vader & Leia Organa - The father / daughter dynamic between these two has always fascinated me a lot.
Mairon & Alcanis - The "vaniron" kid, also a complicated case. (OC headcanon)
Ozai & Zuko - Dramatic ...
Severus Snape & Harry Potter - I love the snily ship, so I headcanon Snape as Harry's biological father, because why not ... it's interesting.
CLOSE FRIENDSHIPS
Anakin & Obi-Wan & Ahsoka
Luke & Han
Cal & Cere & Greez & BD-1
Cal & Dagan
Frodo & Sam
Finrod & Beren
Fingon & Maedhros
Ratbag & Ranger (from the Tolkien-based "Shadows of War" game - the only known orc friendship)
YOUR FAVOURITE THEMES / FANDOM TRENDS.
fantastical / mythological elements
As someone who has always been fascinated by ancient myths, I can’t help but love this stuff.
occult / magical elements
Given I am interested in these subjects, I very much like to see (and incorporate) these themes in the fictional universes and characters I like.
anachronistic elements / fusion of different historical period styles
For example, say, Cyber Victorian (garments that combine Victorian era designs with a Matrix style twist, plus futuristic technology, and a setting in a likewise futuristic world)
scientifically sound elements and reasoning
I think this is a quite important aspect, especially in sci-fi.
philosophically & politically inspiring + visionary elements
Such as caste-free social structures & natural law anarchy (not to be confused with the “rule of force” one, let alone the woke version).
scientists, explorers, philosophers & (martial) artists
I just happen to enjoy seeing these types of characters.
sarcasm & dry humour
It certainly adds some “spice” to the mixture.
characters with a scorpionic & virgoan influence
Many of my faves have this, especially the scorpionic one.
depth and complexity in character portrayal & a well thought-out backstory
Should be a given, but unfortunately isn't, more often than not - especially these days. Shame!
complicated, long and well thought-out redemption arcs
If not canon, I’ll do it myself.
I've always been fascinated by the concept of redemption.
In connexion with my favourite villains, it is a theme I am quite obsessed with and can't do without, as I find evil as such not appealing at all. In fact, what makes these characters attractive to me is their power & potential, and not their misuse of it. The process of redemption finally brings said potential out and puts it to good use, which I find deeply satisfying.
Plus there is also the element of defying the forces of darkness, who always twist and pervert - and this is the ultimate solution to it, making everyone and everything whole again.
Imho, redemption arcs are a great "f**k you" to the devil & I love it all the more for that!
happy developments & outcomes for my faves
Because I simply can't have it otherwise.
villain/anti-hero & (anti-)heroine pairings (or vice versa)
It’s a dynamic that I find particularly intriguing - always have - also regarding the redemption theme.
partners that are of equal rank in a relationship - plus healthy relationships, for a change
Especially where you least expect it (see pairing constellation), and where both partners had to work on themselves to achieve it (i.e. realism doesn’t hurt, now does it!?).
happy and loving (not to mention enduringly passionate) committed relationships / marriage
Just like Morticia & Gomez ... *sigh*
monogamous unions + fidelity
Guys as committed as Anakin, Snape, and Gomez are the best!
eternal love / twin flames / soulmates / however you want to call it
Regarding OTPs this theme is an absolute must!
het content
Why yes, that’s just my personal preference, as that is something I can actually relate to.
not overly sexualized portrayals of relationships
I just don't want to see the explicit content. Most of the time it's enough when it's just hinted at.
Or if you want to write about the sexual act, then at least express yourself in a more pleasant manner - it doesn't always have to be this crude, pornified language.
If anything, make the characters make love - with all the emotional intensity, intimacy, and tenderness that should be there - and not just plain fuck.
portrayal of female characters where being badass and being feminine isn’t mutually exclusive
Because it is NOT!
the apotheosis theme
Mortality sucks ... and who wouldn’t want to ditch everything awful that comes with it!? Like diseases, aging - begone!
INVENT A RANDOM AU FOR ANY FANDOM (WE ALWAYS NEED MORE IDEAS).
Star Wars
Darth Vader doesn’t die and gets the chance for an actual redemption arc, atoning for his ill deeds as the Dark Lord - as an act of purification and reclaiming his original, true name - as well as helping the Alliance free the galaxy. (given how powerful he is, his contribution would be immense)
more importantly - he finally has the opportunity to make up with and actually get to know his children - especially Leia. That has always bugged me a great deal. Ani didn’t even get the chance to talk to his daughter. There is just too much focus on the father-son dynamic anyway. Nothing against Luke – love him, but it’s just not right that Leia was being left out of it almost entirely. Plus she is the one that resembles her father more (personality-wise) after all. I’d so have loved to see a confrontation of these two. (not to mention some cute father-daughter moments, eventually)
not a must, but - ideally, Padmé didn’t die, either, and just fell into a coma / was kept in a stasis until after the events of RotJ … I want a Skywalker family reunion! T^T

@fogdweller asked:
“I’m not interested in taking anything that comes from you.” [from vil]
FRAN BOW SENTENCE STARTERS
Tumblr media Tumblr media
"Still holding a grudge after all these years? Would you truly have preferred it had I stayed and ruined the perfect vibe with my gloomy and miserable self?"
He means it in jest, amusement clear in the lilt of his voice and the quirk of his eyebrow. He knows that Vil has nothing against him for switching dorm, he might act like he does when they interact but he's always been a drama queen. Good ol' Vil, same as always. Some things never change.
Dorian is holding two containers, one in each hand, a small glass jar and a plastic smoothie cup. He hands the jar to Vil with a roll of his golden eyes, more fond than exasperated "Well, whatever, this doesn't come from me, Azul sends it, I'm just the delivery man. It's a sample of that moisturizing cream he's promised you, says he wants you to try some first in case he needs to further tweak the recipe."
(He'd laughed himself sick imagining Vil's face were he to know the main ingredient of said beauty product. The fact that it came at the expense of Floyd, one of the banes of Dorian's existence, had only made him laugh all the more. Good times.)
"I do have this too though. It's one of those homemade smoothies that you like so much, made by yours truly." He dangles the tall plastic cup (the same shade of purple of the Pomefiore uniform, the lid a soft lilac like the tips of Vil's hair, complete with a straw colored a dark lipstick-red) from his thumb and forefinger, lips quirking in a shit-eating grin.
Tumblr media
"But since you said you're not interested in anything that comes from me, I guess I'll have to take it back to the kitchen and drink it all myself. Your loss, I guess~"

I’m not so sure Dorian “I once made a deal with a betrayer god that cost me my alignment in order to protect my friends” Storm is just gonna ignore the fact that Bertrand and Imogen left him to look out for Orym out front by himself. Whatever happens next week, you bet your ass Dorian “Trust Issues” Storm is gonna have some words with some folks and I cannot wait.

The reasons why we're getting Manorian book
There has been a lot of speculation whether SJM is going to favor us with book/novella about Manon Blackbeak and Dorian Havilliard, recently I saw some fans doubting it, so here's a list of logical reasons why it's happening.
1. It's SJM
This woman writes two 500+ pages books per year, for her it would be a piece of cake.
2. There have already been books focused on side characters
a) Chaol and Yrene - Chaol was one of the most unpopular characters before Tower of Dawn (which made me love him hehe) and she still wrote a 600+ pages long book about him, just imagine what she'd do with the most popular character (Manon) and one of the most popular ones (Dorian).
b) Nesta and Cassian - this is ship is the closest to Manorian equivalent in ACOTAR series, aka starting from a physical relationship that develops into a sentimental one. Also 6th ACOTAR book will be focused on a new characters (most probably Elain)
3. Favoritism
SJM has talked multiple times about her love for these two. When asked about her favorite TOG character, she said Aelin, but Manon was a close second place and she said that she absolutely loves writing her.
In another interview, when asked who she would go on a book tour with and a few similar questions, she answered Dorian.
Now, I haven't seen all of her interviews ever and I'm not sure how much she loves Nessian and Cahorene (seems to love Nessian a hella lot tho), but it's definite that Manorian are some of her favorite characters and it's just logical that she would write about them.
4. Unfinished story/Unresolved feelings
Ships at the end of TOG:
Rowaelin - married
Elorcan - engaged
Lysaedion - engaged
Chaorene - married with a baby on the way
Nestaq - engaged
Manorian - hug and "we'll see"
All the ships basically got engaged in the last chapter (it's not like I didn't like it hehe) and their stories, romantic-wise, were pretty much finished and they have no unresolved tension between them. Manorian on the other hand, have enough of it for all the ships lol.
KOA spoilers ahead!
Keep in mind, Manorian relationship was mostly a sexual one, and they don't quite yet have a way of communicating their feelings properly. So there is a lot of unaddressed between them, even though they obviously care a lot about each other.
The unresolved things between Manon and Dorian:
"“And if I asked you to stay?” / “I’d need a very convincing reason, I suppose.” / “Because I don’t want you to go.” - they just fucked and Dorian left for Morath later, which impacted Manon a lot but they haven't discussed it
"I even care about you." - Manon got up and left
"There is only one witch who will be my queen." - Manon doesn't know about this
Manon saved Dorian from Valg demon even when Aelin couldn't. It was the worst thing to happen to Dorian and he still bears scars from it, yet he didn't have an appropriate situation to thank Manon for it
Dorian knows that Erawan lusted after Manon, which got him pissed of course, and he didn't have a chance nor time to ask Manon about it. It might be nothing, but if I were Dorain and my girlfriend who doesn't show feelings was locked up with a crazy guy who has a thing for her, and have seen the way he treats women, I'd be concerned. Erawan was a Valg king, a tough opponent even for Manon. If he had done something to her, and he had plenty of means and opportunities and wish to do so, Manon would never openly tell anyone (maybe Asterin) about it, because it would imply opening up and being weak, which is Manon's worst fear. Again, SJM, as the Queen of Foreshadowing, wouldn't just randomly throw in the main villain having a thing for an important character, everything in her books always has a meaning and purpose.
"Would you miss me if I didn't [come back]?" - Manon didn't reply
This is how SJM described Manorian marriage: "She would be his wife, his queen. She was already his equal, his match, mirror in so many ways. And with their union, the world would know it." - and you're telling me it's not deserving of its own book? Not just that, Manon asked Dorian for marriage and they, again, just had sex, with Dorian loving the idea but deep down knowing that Manon would feel caged in a marriage. And that attitude won't just change out of the blue. It takes time and development which is something SJM writes amazingly.
With the Thirteen gone, beside Abraxos Dorian is the only creature Manon cares about.
Dorian's mortality (although as you'll see in point #6 I'm sure he's not human)
The dreaded "You could just marry each other." / "We'll see." (Thanks Yrene :)
5. Foreshadowing
Listen here, SJM IS THE QUEEN OF FORESHADOWING. She thought of a detail (Dorian's dad's name) in the first book that would matter in the last book. Of course, there are many many many more examples of that, but if we got "We'll see." then we'll fucking see it happen.
6. Unresolved things about Manon and Dorian as individual characters.
Manon and Dorian and both pretty broken at the end of KOA.
Manon lost the Thirteen, the only people she cared about. That is a huge trauma that needs to be addressed, especially with someone so reluctant to show feelings and heal like Manon.
Dorian can't be human?? He has fae abilities due to his relation to Gavin and Elena even though he's not even called a demi-fae. He possesses powers no one else does, phantom hands for example, which he didn't steal like shape-shifting. And Maeve pointed out that due to his father being possessed by Valg when Dorian was sired, it's possible he got some of the Valg abilities. (Also she said that he's stronger than Aelin) The main villain, especially written by Queen of Foreshadowing, wouldn't just let drop it there and that's it. Also not to mention Dorian's own struggle with depression and self-worth.
They have both just become rulers of their kingdoms, completely new to it. Dorian has spent a big part of KOA imagining what kind of a king he wants to be (one that will have a witch queen hehe) and it was a major point of his character. And addition to that affecting them as characters, the future of Adarlan and Witch Kingdom could make a good plotline.
7. Other TOG characters
Although pretty much all the readers would die to see Chaorene baby, Lorcan in Perranth, Aelin and Rowan ruling Terrasen, Lysandra and Adeion officially adopting Evangeline, Nesryn and Sartaq becoming Khagan and Empress of Antica, all of these don't make enough of a plot on its own. They are great side-plots.
We know all of these characters love each other and are happy together, there isn't that much to be added to their personal stories other than kids. (same way Feyre and Rhys got a baby in Nessian book) Manorian however, they haven't even kissed without it leading to sex, they hugged at the end of KOA and it was the pique of their relationship. Their relationship is merely at the beginning, whereas others have pretty much reached their ultimatum (ofc SJM can decide to add some drama with betrayal, kidnapping, pregnancy etc. but for now everyone is good and settled beside Manorian)
Not to mention the way other relationships would affect them. Chaol, Dorian's brother, and Yrene, Manon's wannabe bestie and Manorian shipper, would bring their baby to meet his/her uncle Dorian and aunt Manon, and imagine Manon with a baby lol.
SJM loves Aelin and other characters way too much not to give us an insight on them as married couples, but since her books are huge and it's her, it needs a plot with drama, addressing traumas, repressed feelings, worldbuilding, and sex, and Manorian's got all of that.
8. Abraxos
We need more Abraxos, that's just a fact.
Wow that was a long one. Anyways, in conclusion, we're getting that Manorian book. Pretty sure it's gonna a book rather than a novella (TOD was also planned as a novella but then guess what) because there is just SO MUCH possible content.

Hi I saw your post about fics being in character and I thought this could be a good opportunity to share some insight to help people who struggle with their characterization. I love your writing and ask could you share some traits you see as 'core' Rowan and Aelin traits? Maybe more valuably, would you be open to sharing your process for what you look for in the text when understanding characters, what stands out to you and what you make sure to include vs what you don't? I understand if this isn't something you want to share and I send this ask with good intentions and respect and hope this can start a productive discussion, no drama. Thanks :))
totally okay that you asked this!!
i think part of it is that i have read everything up to EoS so many times. like at least four times each and i've read heir of fire and queen of shadows probably six times each. i've only read kingdom of ash once bc it's still too painful to read again lmaoooo.
when i write i also always look for any chance i can to make parallels. i love making canon parallels to anything from small moments to bigger ones that are more recognizable. like the rowaelin qos reunion, rowan's "where is my wife" moment. rowan and aelin sparring in any capacity, like, anything like that. because i think that helps when you're pulling from the text and putting them into situations where you know how they interact with them, and it makes it easier to add in bits and pieces before and after. if that makes any kind of sense. (this also goes for legit any ship that i write. nessian, feysand, etc. pulling from the text and putting them in familiar situations will always help.)
as far as traits go, one of my major ones that i always try to keep in mind is rowaelin's loyalty to each other. rowan is like loyal to aelin almost to a fault sometimes. he will do anything and everything for her. when it comes that's why their thing is "to whatever end." they will follow each other to whatever end and beyond.
aelin has a very low opinion of herself. she thinks that she's expendable compared to those around her. she is very depressed sometimes and i think it gets overlooked a lot. (when i get my books back from my sister, i plan on doing a meta about this.) but she's been through a lot in her life and i try to keep that in mind in a lot of au's. some au's that are heavier (like iihasts and fafs) i try to pull on that. her mental health is very important to a lot of the way she handles things. post KOA, i know this girl has PTSD. it's evident in the way she handles a lot and takes a long time to warm back up to rowan in kingdom of ash. but she was tortured and manipulated for months. she's not okay.
people (in the books) also call her selfish A LOT but most of what she does she does for other people. she even spared dorian the weight of killing his father and told him she did it. like, come on.
as celaena, she does lean on the more selfish side, but as aelin she's doing everything she does for the greater good of the entire world. she didn't forge that lock for herself. she forged that lock for a better tomorrow for everyone she loved. which is incredibly selfless. she would also completely throw down to keep her loved ones safe.
the arrogant behavior is such an act. she's not really like that, it's a cover to hide everything she's truly feeling inside, to protect herself, to keep people from truly getting to know her. she can flip her personality to better suit the situation and the people she's around. she's mostly only her true self around aedion, lysandra, and rowan. i don't even think she really reveals herself to the rest of the cadre for probably a very long time. she picks fights when she's hurting the most and rowan is really the first person to see and recognize that. (very evident in hof when she sees what a good person gallan appears to be and goes and picks a bar fight immediately. or when arobynn humiliates her and she wears her nicest jewels to try to intentionally get robbed so she can start a fight.)
the reality is that she's an insanely hard worker, she keeps going and going and going to meet to meet her goals. she's a master strategist and very quick on her feet in any situation she finds herself in. she feels isolated (which goes back to her depression and ptsd) and she feels misunderstood. but she has been known to literally give the cloak off her back (with kaltain) and the money in her pocket (with yrene) and doesn't expect anything in return. literally nothing in return. she just did it out of the goodness of her own heart, yet she's constantly filled with self doubt that she's a bad person because people tell her that she is (chaol literally calls her a monster and she holds onto that and ends up asking rowan if she is one.)
she gives a lot of forgiveness and second chances, except to abusers. she pulls no punches with them. yet even with arboynn, she made sure there were no redeeming qualities left before letting lysandra kill him. instead of seeing it as a victory, though, she just felt hollow. she doesn't take joy in killing these people. she is not a bad person.
she feels a lot of guilt when she feels she could have stopped things. i think she carries those moments with her. which is why she helped those people the king wanted dead to escape in com. she has no problem ending people that deserve the punishment, but when they don't, she does what she can to help them.
rowan is so respectful. he finally gets his mate and his wife and his love back and he's consistently giving her the space she requires when it's so hard for him to not just touch her. he puts his own needs aside consistently based on what aelin needs.
he's a complete and total hardass to other people but is so soft for her. but he's also territorial about her. he's protective of her. but never at the cost of what she needs and wants. however, he will put his foot down and make people swallow their own tongues if they're disrespectful toward her. but he's also respectful toward everyone, not just aelin. he can prove his points without physical violence even if he would want to.
in that same vein, if you're doing enemies to lovers, he doesn't understand her at first. he think's she's spoiled and doesn't have a single clue about the trauma she's been through and he's very hard on her. he treats her like another warrior in their training. he doesn't go easy on her just because she's a woman (which also still comes from a place of respect) but the second he finds out about her trauma the way he treats her shifts. he becomes protective because he doesn't put up with that kind of shit. he isn't torturing her in their training, in fact aelin in hof says that he's brilliant even if he beats the shit out of her every damn day. a lot of people try to twist that into a thing of abuse, but again, he's training her like a warrior. he doesn't coddle her and she doesn't want to be coddled. again, this comes from a place of respect.
he also learns from his mistakes and tries to right them, and takes action to better himself from it as soon as he can. this is important. he has the humility to apologize, whether it be by actions or words. he doesn't ask for credit in the things he does and ends up kind of making jokes about it. i think he has a lot of humility at the end of the day. he is quick to forgive others when it's deserved but has a lot of trouble forgiving himself. this is also important.
but rowan also has a playful side with aelin. they have witty banter that they exchange even when they're not totally on board with the other. he's funny in subtle ways, and toward the end of the series we see that he's so wholly comfortable with her that he even gets a little silly.
after his own trauma, he also falls into a very deep depression. for centuries. it took aelin coming along for him to come back out of his shell. everyone gave up on him, but aelin never did. just like he never gave up on her, and they were able to walk out of that darkness together. i also think he feels a lot of guilt when innocent lives get put in danger and risk or die at his hands when he felt he could have stop it, much like aelin.
rowan is also very calm in most situations. he's able to work out solutions like the warrior that he is even when other people are losing their minds, which makes him a very good soldier and eventually king.
i could keep going but this is getting wildly long lol. i hope this helps even a little. thank you to @westofmoon @whimsicallyreading @punkassbookjockey26 for helping me with my thoughts as i'm still exhausted from surgery and healing.

Queer Movies/Books/TV Shows for Pride Month!
Happy Pride everyone!! For your viewing/reading pleasure I have made a (non-exhaustive) list of queer media that I have enjoyed!
Movies/Documentaries
Pride (2014): An old tried and true favorite, which meets at the intersection of queer and workers’ rights. A group of queer activists support the 1985 miners’ strike in Wales (complete with a sing-through of Bread and Roses + Power in a Union)
Portrait of a Lady on Fire: On an isolated island in Brittany at the end of the eighteenth century, a female painter is obliged to paint a wedding portrait of a young woman (or, two young lesbians fall in love by the sea, and you cry)
God’s Own Country: Young farmer Johnny Saxby numbs his daily frustrations with binge drinking and casual sex, until the arrival of a Romanian migrant worker for lambing season ignites an intense relationship that sets Johnny on a new path (Seriously this movie is GREAT and doesn’t get enough love, watch it! It’s rough but ends happily)
The Half of It:  When smart but cash-strapped teen Ellie Chu agrees to write a love letter for a jock, she doesn't expect to become his friend - or fall for his crush (as in she falls for his crush who is another girl. This movie was so good, and really friendship focused!)
Saving Face:  A Chinese-American lesbian and her traditionalist mother are reluctant to go public with secret loves that clash against cultural expectations (this is an oldie and a goodie, with a happy ending!)
Moonlight:  A young African-American man grapples with his identity and sexuality while experiencing the everyday struggles of childhood, adolescence, and burgeoning adulthood (featuring gay men of color!)
Carol:  An aspiring photographer develops an intimate relationship with an older woman in 1950s New York (everyone’s seen this I think, but I couldn’t not have it here)
Milk: The story of Harvey Milk and his struggles as an American gay activist who fought for gay rights and became California's first openly gay elected official (the speech at the end of this made me cry. Warning, of course, for death, if you don’t know about Harvey Milk)
Pride (Hulu Documentary):  A six-part documentary series chronicling the fight for LGBTQ civil rights in America (they go by decade from the 50s-2000s, and there is a lot of great trans inclusion in this)
Paris is Burning (Documentary): A 1990s documentary about the African American and Latinx ballroom scene. Available on Youtube!
A New York Christmas Wedding:  As her Christmas Eve wedding draws near, Jennifer is visited by an angel and shown what could have been if she hadn't denied her true feelings for her childhood best friend (this movie is SO CUTE. It’s really only nominally a Christmas movie and easily watched anytime. Features an interracial sapphic couple!)
TV Shows
Love, Victor: Victor is a new student at Creekwood High School on his own journey of self-discovery, facing challenges at home, adjusting to a new city, and struggling with his sexual orientation (this is a spin-off of Love, Simon, and it’s very sweet and well done! Featuring a young gay man of color)
Sex Education:  A teenage boy with a sex therapist mother teams up with a high school classmate to set up an underground sex therapy clinic at school (this has multiple queer characters, including a featured young Black gay man and also in season 2 there is a side ace character!)
Black Sails: I mean, do I even need to put a summary here? If you follow me you know that Black Sails is full of queer pirates, just queers everywhere.
Gentleman Jack:  A dramatization of the life of LGBTQ+ trailblazer, voracious learner and cryptic diarist Anne Lister, who returns to Halifax, West Yorkshire in 1832, determined to transform the fate of her faded ancestral home Shibden Hall (Period drama lesbians!!! A title sequence  that will make you gay just by watching!)
Tales of the City (2019):  A middle-aged Mary Ann returns to San Francisco and reunites with the eccentric friends she left behind. "Tales of the City" focuses primarily on the people who live in a boardinghouse turned apartment complex owned by Anna Madrigal at 28 Barbary Lane, all of whom quickly become part of what Maupin coined a "logical family". It's no longer a secret that Mrs. Madrigal is transgender. Instead, she is haunted by something from her past that has long been too painful to share (this is based on a book series and it’s got lots of great inter-generational queer relationships!)
The Haunting of Bly Manor:  After an au pair’s tragic death, Henry hires a young American nanny to care for his orphaned niece and nephew who reside at Bly Manor with the chef Owen, groundskeeper Jamie and housekeeper, Mrs. Grose (sweet, tender, wonderful lesbians. A bittersweet ending but this show is so so wonderful)
Sense8: A group of people around the world are suddenly linked mentally, and must find a way to survive being hunted by those who see them as a threat to the world's order (queers just EVERYWHERE in this show, of all kinds)
Books
Loveless by Alice Oseman:  Georgia has never been in love, never kissed anyone, never even had a crush – but as a fanfic-obsessed romantic she’s sure she’ll find her person one day. This wise, warm and witty story of identity and self-acceptance sees Alice Oseman on towering form as Georgia and her friends discover that true love isn’t limited to romance (don’t be turned off by this title, it’s tongue-in-cheek. This is a book about an aroace college girl discovering herself and centers the importance and power of platonic relationships! I have it on my TBR and have heard great things)
Detransition, Baby by Torrey Peters: Reese almost had it all: a loving relationship with Amy, an apartment in New York City, a job she didn't hate. She had scraped together what previous generations of trans women could only dream of: a life of mundane, bourgeois comforts. The only thing missing was a child. But then her girlfriend, Amy, detransitioned and became Ames, and everything fell apart. Now Reese is caught in a self-destructive pattern: avoiding her loneliness by sleeping with married men.Ames isn't happy either. He thought detransitioning to live as a man would make life easier, but that decision cost him his relationship with Reese—and losing her meant losing his only family. Even though their romance is over, he longs to find a way back to her. When Ames's boss and lover, Katrina, reveals that she's pregnant with his baby—and that she's not sure whether she wants to keep it—Ames wonders if this is the chance he's been waiting for. Could the three of them form some kind of unconventional family—and raise the baby together? This provocative debut is about what happens at the emotional, messy, vulnerable corners of womanhood that platitudes and good intentions can't reach. Torrey Peters brilliantly and fearlessly navigates the most dangerous taboos around gender, sex, and relationships, gifting us a thrillingly original, witty, and deeply moving novel (again, don’t be thrown off by the title, it too, is tongue-in-cheek. This book was GREAT, and written by a trans women with a queer-and especially trans--audience in mind)
A Tip for the Hangman by Allison Epstein: A gay Christopher Marlowe, at Cambridge and trying to become England’s best new playwright, finds himself wrapped up in royal espionage schemes while also falling in love (this book is by a Twitter friend of mine, and it is a wonderful historical thriller with a gay man at the center).
Creatures of Will and Temper by Molly Tanzer: a very very queer remix of The Picture of Dorian Gray (which was already quite queer), featuring amazing female characters, a gay Basil, and a much happier ending than the original.
Red, White, and Royal Blue by Casey McQuiston: The gay prince of England and the bisexual, biracial first son of the president fall in love (think an AU of 2016 where a woman becomes president). Featuring a fantastic discovery of bisexuality, ruminations on grief, and just a truly astonishing book. One of my favorites!
One Last Stop by Casey McQuiston:  For cynical twenty-three-year-old August, moving to New York City is supposed to prove her right: that things like magic and cinematic love stories don’t exist, and the only smart way to go through life is alone. She can’t imagine how waiting tables at a 24-hour pancake diner and moving in with too many weird roommates could possibly change that. And there’s certainly no chance of her subway commute being anything more than a daily trudge through boredom and electrical failures. But then, there’s this gorgeous girl on the train (This is Casey McQuiston’s brand new novel featuring time-travel, queer women, and I absolutely cannot WAIT to read it)
The Heiress by Molly Greely: Set in the Pride and Prejudice universe, this takes on Anne de Bourg (Lady Catherine’s daughter), and makes her queer!
Tipping the Velvet by Sarah Waters:  Nan King, an oyster girl, is captivated by the music hall phenomenon Kitty Butler, a male impersonator extraordinaire treading the boards in Canterbury. Through a friend at the box office, Nan manages to visit all her shows and finally meet her heroine. Soon after, she becomes Kitty's dresser and the two head for the bright lights of Leicester Square where they begin a glittering career as music-hall stars in an all-singing and dancing double act. At the same time, behind closed doors, they admit their attraction to each other and their affair begins (Sarah Waters is the queen of historical lesbians. All of her books are good, and they’re all gay! The Paying Guests is another great one)
(On a side note re: queer books, there are MANY, these are just ones I’ve read more recently. Also there are a lot of indie/self-published writers doing great work writing queer books, so definitely support your local indie authors!)

Writing Prompts, Pairings, and AUs
I’m excited to announce I am part of the Dragon Age Drunk Writing Circle! Send me a writing prompt (@dadrunkwriting or general) and I’ll do my best to fill it. Check out the list below for character pairings, prompts, and AUs on offer. <3
Update 12 February 2022: I have included a list of completed prompts, and prompts that have been sent to me already, so you can know which ones have or will be filled
Note: Please refrain from sending ‘for anyone’ prompts, if you can. The more specific, the better I can fill the prompt!
Another note: no smut prompts at the moment, but that might change later on. I’ll make an announcement, when that happens. <3
Behold, OCs on offer (I don’t mind writing generic Hawkes or Inquisitors or Wardens, either. But I do like writing my OCs because they’re my babies <3). Click on their names to learn more about them on my Tumblr blog.
Valena Cousland, my warrior Warden who wants to be queen
Solona Hawke, my mage Hawke who just wants a book. and her dog.
Revka Cadash, my non-protagonist, middle-aged dwarven OC who’s the Carta’s leader in Kirkwall. And a ball of chaos. With arrows.
Aranehn Lavellan, my super-reluctant Inquisitor that gets lost in the Hinterlands often and prefers her herb garden over Orlesians. (I don’t blame her <3)
Rana El-Khoury, my modern girl in Thedas. She’s a Lebanese opera singer who hit her head and woke up in Kirkwall. While she can’t fight, she can sing, and quickly establishes herself as a bard in Kirkwall. Likes bringing modern inventions to Kirkwall. Actively searches for a way back home. Love chocolate.
Keep reading under the cut for Pairings, Prompts, AUs and Completed Prompts!

Can I be nosy and ask why you don't like Queen of Shadows? I actually loved that one so I'm super curious
Short answer: bad pacing, aelin in general, relationship drama being drawn out because I guess dorian being held by a valg wasn't enough, it took me two and a half months to read
Long answer:
Okay so, one of Sarah J Maas' biggest weaknesses in her writing is her pacing. It is so bad that all of her books are a slog to get through, and that's the reason it's taken me almost two years to get through her bibliography. I have to take self imposed breaks in between each book (and have been since I finished the acotar series) because otherwise I'd send myself into a reading slump. For reference, I just started reading the stormlight archive by Brandon Sanderson, and those books are all over 1000 pages and I have to physically restrain myself from requesting the next one from the library so I can read other books on my tbr. It's not a page count issue at all.
Her pacing is just... so bad? And it's absolutely gotten worse over time, probably because she's been given her auteur license and the ability to blanket reject editorial suggestions. I hypothesize that Queen of Shadows is from around the time that she had recently gotten that license, although you can kind of see it a bit in Heir of Fire too. I didn't like Heir of Fire either, but I liked it marginally more than Queen of Shadows. In a flaccid attempt as positivity I will admit that at least Heir of Fire had an *adventure* going on during it, there was an entirely new location, with new characters. Yeah those characters weren't particularly *good* but it was new. Queen of Shadows basically takes place in an apartment when we're with Aelin, and we don't even get to see half the stuff that happens while she's running around? It was such a bizarre choice because that's way more interesting than her relationship drama with Chaol and Rowan.
I will admit that Manon and Elide's whole subplot was... I wouldn't say good because I really hate her worldbuilding with the witches and how she decided to write the whole We're Being Used As Baby Factories subplot. However, the mystery there was so much better written than Aelin pulling out a new Chekov Gun that we, the readers were seemingly not privy to considering how many times I was left scratching my head. That happened so often it was laughable and irritating to an outrageous degree, and it comes off like Sarah J Maas doesn't trust Aelin to come off as competent based off her own merits, so she has to make her the most competent person in the room instead.
Seriously Dorian's subplot with the wyrdstone collar should have been the MAIN focus, but it felt like it took a backseat to Aelin/Chaol melodrama, Aelin/Rowan's will-they-won't-they, Aelin being Hyper Competent, whatever the fuck was going on with Arobynn (hey Sarah, why did you decide to change him from being Aelin's father figure as was said in book one to being creepily obsessed with her??? hey Sarah I just want to talk)... oh and the aedion/rowan drama with the warrior bond thing?? Hated it, found it pointless.
My last point is that if a book takes me two and a half months to finish, that says something about the pacing and writing. My usual time for prose novels? 2 to 3 days for a 400-500 page book. I can read a 300 some page book in a day if I get really into it, I regularly read 300 page history books for fun in roughly a day. Queen of Shadows is about 650 pages it probably should have taken me about 5 days(ish) to read. And it's not that I was in a reading slump, I read about 10 other books in those two and a half months, including a Jennifer L Armentrout book which was about as bad. I also just finished Empire of Storms in about 5 days and that book is about the same length.
In short, it was a lot of things 🙃🙃🙃

Hahaha here are my wkm hcs (just the main four rn)
In general I think wkm takes place in 1928 so they all technically committed a crime by drinking.... wkm also takes place in Hollywood so 😌
Also heres my smoking hcs since it applies here too
Actor Mark
• Ok tbh I hc him as being as bisexual but hes more het leaning but yes he still likes men. (No one else knows this info, not even Celine)
• He has a sweet tooth. He prefers dessert and sweeter tasting things. He has a box of custom chocolates that he indulges in from time to time.
• He prefers a sweeter, smoother wine. He doesn't drink it during dinner saying, "Why would I drink something so special in front of insignificant people?"
• BEFORE the entity took him over: Would always buy flowers for Celine along with a little note telling her how much he loved her.
• He would also go on numerous dates with her at the city garden.
• AFTER the entity took over: Stopped paying attention to Celine but still loved her. He became more invested in his work.
• Acting wise, he is very talented in what he does. Considered one of Hollywood's best actors.
• He is a bit of a drama queen on set but he was still very likable by others.
• After Celine left him he lost his passion for acting and gave sloppy performances during rehearsal.
• The party was planned during the time he was laid off from one of his films because he wouldn't give it his all.
William
• Mark and him are step brothers
• Was honorably discharged from the military
• Before he went into the military he had wanted to become a lawyer
• Has partial deafness in his left ear due to guns blasting near him.
• Unlike Mark, he loves anything that tastes different to him
• The first time he left with Celine was at Mark's birthday party.
• He has internalized homophobia 😔
• He considers Damien to be one of his best friends and helps out whenever he can with paper work
• When on his hunts he liked to keep his revolver in his pants (not trusting a holster) He still keeps up with this habit
• He is very adamant about grooming his mustache, calling it his "greatest asset"
• He is infatuated with money which ties in with his love of gambling (thats why he always asked Mark for money)
• To show his love for Celine he would buy her new equipment for her séances
Damien
• HES GAY 🗣🗣🗣🗣
• I think his last name being Doom is rather 😏
• He actually pursued being a lawyer and was a really good one (was a civil lawyer)
• Speaking of being gay, he had a little bit of a crush on Mark and William but :/
• I would say what political party he affiliated with but I dont think it would make sense for back then (if it were present day he would be a Democrat)
• He doesnt enjoy drinking and was kind of glad that prohibition was passed (he never said this out loud though)
• He enjoys tea, especially ginger and lemon
• Being Celine's twin, he also has "supernatural" powers. He has the ability of seeing spirits, however, he was so terrified of it as a child he can longer do it consciously
• He does see spirits but mostly as fading figures from the corner of his eye
• If he had pursued with the ability he would've been able to see through into the void
• He owns a small fox sparrow called Ella (the scientific name is passerella so yeah... fucking nerd lol)
• His favorite book is The Portrait of Dorian Gray (gay.......) he praises it all the time to the DA and loves to quote it
• Has a birthmark of zig zag on his left shoulder blade
Celine
• Her last name is also Doom duh
• She does paid séances in her parlor in the mansion
• She enjoys singing operettas. When Mark heard her sing, he told her that she should pursue the career but she declined saying, "I would rather die than be ogled by rich, stuffy men." (I like to think they had this interaction when they were teens, the time where they started to like each other)
• She doesn't have the ability to see spirits and holds resentment towards Damien because he suppressed his ability
• Technically...a feminist icon 😏
• She also doesn't like that Damien is mayor
• There is one sided rivalry between her and Damien (Damien is oblivious to this lol)
• She was attracted to Mark because of his personality and she really liked him a lot when they were teenagers
• She enjoys gardening and loves flowers. She has a flower garden and an herbal garden (she does gift Damien herbs)
• After leaving with William the first time, she felt so guilty about it that she slept in her garden (this guilty feeling soon went away after the entity took over Mark)
• Has a birthmark on her right shoulder blade of a zig zag

Wicked Love: Summary + Masterlist
Full Masterlist
note: hi, so since things are grim enough, I figured we could all use some fluff. for now, I'll try to avoid posting angst much as I can.
──────✧❅✦❅✧──────
Some of the earliest memories of Aelin's childhood have Rowan Whitethorn in them. The bastard with his know-it-all attitude made her life Hell until graduation when she moved away. Her cousin's best friend has a way of winning people over despite the ever-present scowl on his face that infuriates Aelin to no end. Not to mention his determination to hate her without a reasonable explanation since the day they were introduced.
Rowan Whitethorn is the bane of her existence. "You," she sneers at him.
"Me," Rowan says, moving closer to them. He smiles at her but it looks more like a baring of teeth. "Nice to see you here, Princess." The nickname alone sets something inside her on fire.
"Likewise. This isn't like your usual scene," Dorian steps in as if he can imagine the profanities in her head.
She doesn't know what she is angry with him about—the day after graduation when she told him she was leaving town had been the only day neither of them fought or argued. He'd told her he would miss her annoying presence and she'd said she'd miss some arrogant jerk barking insults at her while she tried to do her work. It had almost been peaceful, like they were friends saying goodbye.
Rowan shrugs. "This isn't your usual scene either. At least you have your manners." A pointed glance at her.
His voice is deeper than before. He looks more beautiful than ever. "You here to rain on our parades, then?"
Rowan's arms are covered in tattoos that weren't there before. It adds to the whole 'don't fuck with me' vibe he gives out. His silver hair reach his neck—long enough that they can be braided now. Aelin liked it better when it was cropped short but the long hair suit him well. The harsh features are set in a neutral expression but he still manages to look menacing with his arms crossed, each muscle outlined by the soft fabric of his light blue t-shirt.
He says, "There's no need to be rude. I don't hold a grudge against you, Ace."
"For what? You're the one who made my high school years hell," she retorts. Not true. Rowan has as much reason to grudge her as she for him.
Rowan widens his eyes at the accusation in disbelief. "Me? You're the one who told our school president that I was hitting on his sister!"
"Yeah, 'cause you told Archer I was dating Dorian! If you hadn't, Archer would have asked me out." She can't believe the audacity he has, pointing fingers at her when he was as bad as her, if not worse. "You said—"
Dorian places a hand on her arm. "Ace, that's in the past. You two can have a do-over, a fresh start. Hug it out!"
"No way."
"Be mature for once, Ace."
Aelin remains adamant. "Don't know what you're talking. He's scheming!"
"He's not. Rowan is sincere."
She knows he isn't. The Rowan she knows would never give in or be the bigger person or want a fresh start. The Rowan she knew had once promised her they'd hate each other forever.
She pouts. "You don't know him like I do. I can swear he isn't sincere."
Dorian is about to say something but Rowan cuts him off with a loud, defeated sigh. "See why we hated each other now? I want to improve things but she's stubborn as ever." She calls bullshit on the improving things stuff. Aelin hasn't seen him in two years but no one can change that much. Then why is he doing this?
That's when she notices the cameras all around. Shooting has quite possibly started already. Dorian nods in confirmation when she catches his eye. Aelin says, "Fine! You want a do-over! Let's hug it out and start fresh."
She steps forward tentatively, wrapping her arms around her arch-nemesis. Rowan squeezes back. For a moment, Aelin isn't sure if she is right. What if he has changed? What if he is over it, like he said?
Then, so soft she almost missed it, Rowan whispers in her ear, "Game on, Princess." All her doubts melt away.
She has a smile on her face almost as fake as his own. "Game on, indeed."
──────✧❅✦❅✧──────
As the only child of a businessman as successful as he is popular, Aelin is not unfamiliar with outrageous requests but this is on a whole new level. "You want me to do what now?!"
Gavriel—the producer and a family friend—winces at her outburst. "All the contestants will have some angle ready to win the audience over. Considering the reaction you had when you met each other, we think it's best if you pretend to be exes," he explains calmly. "The audience will eat that up. If you want to win, you have to give them drama. Nothing shouts drama like warring exes."
If she is being honest, it is a good plan. Rowan asks, "Why us? I can pretend to be someone else's something!"
Gavriel shakes his head. "Others have their angles worked out. You hate each other already. You can either let this be the end of your journey before show starts. Or you can use your hatred to win. Why compete when you can work together and win? Both of you?" Aelin is still not sold on it but she has to admit it's a good plan.
Rowan breathes out. "I don't want to have to talk to her more than I need to."
"Look who stopped pretending. You soul-sucking lizard! Oh wait, that's an insult to lizards," Aelin says. She doesn't care if she's acting like a child.
He gestures towards her green jumper. "You sure you aren't looking in the mirror, Princess?"
"Damn sure, fuckface—"
Gavriel cuts in before Aelin can pounce on Rowan with her claws out. "See? You're both bound to make things interesting. Don't think of this as having to talk to each other on camera. Think of it as a chance to show each other down in front of camera." And make each other look bad in front of the audience, Gavriel doesn't need to say the rest of it. That gets her attention.
She curls her fingers in the air as if they are wrapped around Rowan's throat. She wants to win this thing. If in making the audience fall in love with her, she can also make the audience hate Rowan, she can tolerate him, can't she?
"I'm in," they say in unison.
Gavriel smiles at them. "When everyone places bets, my money will be on you. Don't disappoint me, you two."
"If there's any danger of disappointing, it will be from Rowan," Aelin says.
The silver-haired bastard refrains from retorting to her but a smirk makes it's way onto his face. He rises from his seat and is almost out of the door when he finally replies, "We'll see what happens. See you soon, princess." And then he is gone, leaving Aelin in the room.
She is still a little shaken by his confidence when she recounts the whole thing to Dorian. "I swear he was never this sure of himself before! Like, he insulted me, sure, but he was always such a perfectionist, I've never seen him look pure smug."
Dorian grins, "It's just like the old times. You ranting to me about Whitethorn."
"Just like the old times," Aelin affirms. "Except much less kissing." Because they'd been dating each other through a better part of high school. Admittedly, she prefers him as a best friend.
Her best friend rolls his eyes. "You joke, but I still have nightmares about how lovesick I used to be back then." He makes a face at his own words, then says, "Speaking of, guess who else is on the show: our star quarterback."
"Fenrys? All I can think about is you, a lovesick nerd with braces and a big crush on Fenrys Moonbeam."
Dorian laughs. "All I can think about is you, dance captain and red haired cheerleader with an even bigger crush on Fenrys Moonbeam." The two of them smile, remembering the lovesick idiots they'd both been in high school. "We are supposed to act like best friends competing with each other for the prize or something. Dial up the drama and all." Regrettably, neither Dorian or her had had the nerve to even introduce themself to the quarterback before he moved away. This would be interesting.
This wasn't Aelin's usual world—this world of glamour and Fame and deception but maybe it wasn't far from her world either. All she was upset about was that Rowan Whitethorn had possibly ruined the grand-old time she had been promised.

Dating the Throne Of Glass boys headcannons
Dorian
Spoils you 24/7, he’s a king so that means he’s LOADED 😌 💅
He absolutely loves to spend time with you in the castle library since you both enjoy books
You guys would stay up for hours in his room just talking about the recent books you’ve read
You’re besties with Chaol, he’s like your brother
This man loves cuddles and I mean LOVES THEM
At first he was kinda uncomfortable with it but after awhile he became addicted
He’ll always be touching you somewhere, holding your hand while walking down the palace halls, a hand on your thigh during a meeting, or a gentle touch on your shoulder for support
He takes you on the cutest dates. They’re always so thoughtful and in the prettiest places
Kinda off topic but sometimes Aelin will come to vist and steal you away from Dorian for the day to drag you shopping with her. He doesn’t mind of course, he wants you to have fun
In conclusion this man is an absolute sweetheart and you are very lucky to have him
Chaol
This man is so soft for you I swear
You both love horses so you always join him for a morning ride
His horse Farsha loves you. If Chaol ever does anything to annoy you she’ll be pissy with him for the rest of the week
He’s not really into PDA unless it’s like hand holding or something but when it’s just the both of you he’s super clingy
You’re usually either out at the gardens or the stables because you love nature and the outdoors
Whenever you put on armor to train he practically melts
He thinks you look super hot in armor for some reason. You don’t really understand the hype
In the morning he always gets up before you and brings you breakfast in bed because he’s a total simp for you
Dorian always makes fun of him for it but Chaol doesn’t care
Rowan
Mans is overprotective af
Like if another guy so much as looks at you it’s over
Of course he respects all the male friendships you have but if some random dude starts hitting on you there’s gonna be some major issues
He always wakes you up at the crack of dawn for training
You never want to leave the bed that early
But he forces you
However you always end up enjoying it once the motivation hits you. Training helps give you a clear head
Rowan is the same way, it helps him think better
He actually LOVES going shopping with you (surprisingly)
He’ll pick out clothes that he thinks would look good on you
You show him all the clothes you try on and he loves it
The ideal date spot is the beach
Once you convince him to dye his hair black and he looked like an off brand Dorian
Thankfully it was only semi permanent and it washed out in like a few weeks because every time someone saw him they would lose their minds
Aedion
You guys are polar opposites
Aedion is loud and brash
While you’re more on the quiet side and somewhat shy
How you guys got together is a mystery
Aelin was like 👁👄👁 “you’re kidding right”
She thinks you’re too good for him smh
Aedion is weird, one day he hates PDA and will refuse to hold your hand in public, and the next he’ll make out with you in front of everyone with no shame
You guys don’t go out on dates much
The both of you prefer to stay home and find something to do that isn’t a ton of work
Whether that be taking a nap together or forcing him to help you make dinner the two of you always have the best times together
Fancy dresses are his weakness
Whenever he sees you all dressed up the man loses it. He’s practically drooling all over the floor
But he can’t help it. You’re just that gorgeous
Lorcan
You guys fight all the time
Not in a bad way of course
The two of you have arguments over the most ridiculous things
It always ends with you both laughing
You really like to cook and Lorcan always wants to help
Although he’s not very good
But that doesn’t stop him
You’ve had to teach him a thing or two about making food...he almost set the kitchen on fire because he left cookies in the oven this one time
He’s definitely gotten better though and making things in the kitchen is one of your favorite things to do together
You guys also love to go swimming at the lake or beach
And just being outside in general is one of the ways you both like to pass time
He keeps up his tough guy act but secretly all he wants is snuggles
He’s a drama queen. And it’s quite obvious. Although it’s one of your favorite things about him because when he’s being dramatic you always laugh
Sartaq
This boy is an absolute gentleman
He treats you like ROYALTY
Although since you’re dating him you technically already are
But that’s beside the point
He loves taking you for rides on Kadara
His Ruk might love you more then he does
Kadara loved you from the first second she met you
He’s such a sweetheart. Always making sure you’re okay with something before goes ahead and does it
When you guys had your first kiss he asked permission if it was alright to kiss you
And of course you said YES
He’s a absolute simp
But he’s your simp ;)
Fenrys
His favorite thing in the world is getting hugs from you
His hugs are so comforting and make you feel so safe
He loves taking you out to fancy restaurants. You guys go out to eat a lot
You love to play with his hair. It’s so soft and shiny
Seriously what shampoo does this man use
Once you painted his nails as a joke
Then he actually really liked it
So the both of you go and get your nails done all the time
Sometimes you go to the spa to just to relax and unwind after a hard day of work
He’s definitely the little spoon but doesn’t tell anyone because he’s embarrassed
You think it’s cute though
One of your favorite things about him is his wolf form. You think he makes such a cute wolf
He’ll shift into it every once and awhile for you so you can pet him and give him scratches behind the ears
When he’s in his wolf form you’ll usually curl up into his side and fall asleep by the fire place
