Finding Punk Communities Online:

I’ll be honest, I can really only speak on behalf of tumblr here. I don’t use other socials all that much.

But! If you want to find a fun awesome punk community on tumblr, you are already off to a great start! Find a punk blog you like or who has similar music taste, see who they reblog from and tag in their posts. I’ve met a LOT of really cool people this way on here! (Shoutout to @polyamorouspunk and @my-chemical-ratz whose blogs you should check out simply because they are cool people). And I’ve also met people who are in bands, or involved with bands (like @necromancy-savant and @dopamineband (who don’t use their tumblr anymore 😭)). I didn’t meet these people right away, it took a while of steady interaction with tumblr to build up these connections.

There are also Discord communities too, I don’t use discord much but I *think* (?) I saw a post go around a while ago where someone was starting up a punk discord server? Honestly maybe I’ll take the time to start one up, it might make me use Discord more lmao

Finding Punk Communities IRL:

Bars and clubs aren’t the only places to find punks!!

I’d recommend checking out any queer spaces in your area, I doubt it would surprise you to learn how often these two groups overlap.

Also! If you are near a city, chances are you have an underground scene somewhere. Google and Reddit are great resources to find the places punks gather in your city. For example: in my city theres a cafe and record shop that are popular among the alternative crowd that I never would have found without the use of Google.

Otherwise, what are your hobbies? If you like gardening/are into solar punk, see if theres a local gardening club! (I’d say a 50/50 chance of punk or karens tbh with this one).

Start up a book club at a local library that focuses on books like 1984 and Brave New World.

Go to gigs that arent at bars or clubs, I went to one back in February that was at an abandoned church, that was turned into a concert venue. The place was child friendly so there was no alcohol, but there were a lot of cool people there!

And the best tip I have for you to avoid nazis is to just know their symbols and signs. Do a bit of research on it and familiarize yourself with what to avoid

There was once a girl who loved someone so much that she did regrettable things. But he could not reciprocate her feelings of her, for they are too deep.

Y/n is the princess of Sparta, and she has lived all of her life getting what she desired. But at the age of eighteen, on her very birthday, when all cities unite at the town of warriors just to celebrate the young girl's special day, someone had taken her wondrous interest. She was drunk with great enchantment and desire, she wanted more of him.

After she had learned that he is a soldier of Athens, she could not help but admire him more. Either then he's handsome, tall, and brave he is also elegant and graceful.

Mountains of gifts and another mountain of gifts are shipped from Sparta to Athens by the princess, and those uncountable amounts of gifts are well addressed to Park Sunghoon. She would not just give him gifts, she also often sneak into Athens just to see him, even if it was just far from his gaze, as long as she can see him. Everyone envies him, but all he can feel is a great annoyance. And so, all the gifts that are sent to him are all returned to Sparta.

After wondering why won't the soldier accept the fortunes of wealth and luxury the princess had sent, she found out he was in love with another different woman. And so, she strolled her way into Aphrodite's temple and made a bargain with her.

"I desire for the man I love to return my feelings and love me like how I love him!" She desperately yelled across the sacred temple, and after a few moments of silence, there, the cold wind blew through her skin, and Aphrodite's voice answered her back.

"Then you shall have the golden primrose and give it to the man you loved, And tell him to accept it, for it is your heart." Said the goddess.

"My heart? But it is just a primrose flower?" She wonders.

"It is your heart. If by midnight after today's and he had denied his love for you, the flower shall die and drift away. So is your heart."

And so, she did what the goddess had told her, and gave Park Sunghoon the golden flower, but once again he denied his love for her, but she was persistent, she'll not leave the boy alone until he finally lost his cool and shouted to the princess.

It was nearly midnight on day two, and Park Sunghoon is drunk in love and about with the girl he liked. And so, Y/n's hope faltered with the wind and left the golden primrose on Sunghoon's bedside table.

After everything Sunghoon was about and had done, he came back to his chamber, and there he saw the faltering petals of the flower, and then, he remembered what the princess had told him and stridden his way to her place.

There he saw her dying on the floor of her room, he could not help but feel heartbroken and regretful.

"My feelings must be reciprocated, for I to still live on," said she through her cut-up breaths. But Park Sunghoon gave her an apologetic smile and kissed her on the forehead.

"I'm sorry, I could not. I love someone different. I'm so sorry princess." His apology was sincere, he means it. And so, she understood.

Only a few minutes left before midnight. The clock seems like it's ticking too fast in Y/n's ear and so does Sunghoon's.

They stayed still, holding on to each other's hand, while Sunghoon caressed her soft hair.

"I love you." Her breath weakly gets out of her mouth. "I love you so much it hurts." Sunghoon looks at her understandingly.

"I'm sorry that I don't, but you know, you're so kind and sweet that I could have."  He remarks. She weakly laughed.

"I should have just met you before she does." She laughed once again, while sweet smiles on her lips, but agony she feels. They both understood, but the timing of their love was bad, just like Aphrodite's bargain. But it cannot be helped.

Until the clock had turned midnight, and so her heart faltered apart in his arms.

Sunghoon's tears are all over his face, dropping through the white sheets of her bed, he hugs her so tightly but she could not feel his warmth. Sunghoon is now full of regrets and he blames himself for not loving you.

He lies you down on your bed gently, and after, he rode his horse and bring himself to Aphrodite's temple and asked for her.

"Please bring Y/n back to life!" Pleaded he.

"No. I shall not." Answered she.

"You had loved her, but you denied her great love, regret is the only price that you deserved. She shall not live for it is the price for her bargain." Said the goddess. But Sunghoon tried to persuade her, but to no luck, he denied her.

Sunghoon came back to your bed chamber, tears rolling down from his eyes, while he caresses your calm emotionless face.

Now his mind round about how it's too late for him to love you back.

Then he puts his lips into yours, but it was no fairytale, you did not wake up.

"I SHALL DIE IF I COULD NO LONGER LIVE WITH HER!" He shouted to the top of his lung, and so, the goddess Athena answered him.

"Then you shall." And so, he lies down with her on the mattress, hugging each other's bodies, loving each other, as if they are just sleeping.

some general tumblr things to note:

as you probably know, tumblr doesn't run on an algorithm

any content depends primarily on what blogs you follow + occasionally what tags you follow (less reliable. your main source will be by blogs)

tags serve mainly as an organizational/content marker, as well as for filtering purposes. tagging #fyp to get your content out there does nothing

to send an ask, click on the button beside the follow/following button on the user's blog - some people rename the 'ask' to some other things, which may make it hard to find

we are the faceless app. pls customize your blog a little so it doesn't look like you're a bot but do not feel pressured to reveal names/face/age/pronouns whatever

once again, the only way content is found is through reblogs. reblog things that u think are neat, no additions required :)

re filtering: you can block terms/tags/content you don't want to see on your dash (e.g. 'tw sexual assault'). here's a better post to explain trigger warning/tagging etiquette

ok onto general hockeyblr:

to follow tags, go into the search bar and type out #[tag] and click the blue follow button on the right. your basic starter pack of tags to follow in hockeyblr: #hockey, #nhl, etc.

but that's lame. and you're probably not gonna get any of the juicy stuff

following your team/the teams you are tangentially interested in and their popular player tags are often a good way to start breaking into the community (e.g. #pittsburgh penguins, #sidney crosby)

follow cool hockeyblr ppl! u can find ppl in your team spheres through the tags i mentioned above. there was also a hockeyblr directory made a while back (og masterlist is down but shoot me a message and i can get you some specific team lists. don't be afraid to ask ppl for recs too)

reblog, like, etc. esp with content creators/gifsets/etc. engagement does the heart good

wtf is liveblogging:

lots of users liveblog and post commentary during games!

you can find these posts in the lb tags, which vary by team and are sort of collectively known (e.g. #pens lb for pittsburgh)

some tags are a little less intuitive: #nyr lb or #rangers lb are both used for the rangers iirc, #bolts lb or #tbl lb have both been used for tampa - feel free to shoot me an ask/msg if you have trouble lol

big events, such as the playoffs, worlds, the all star game, etc may have their own special tags (e.g. #scp lb, #worlds lb, #asg lb, #team germany lb, etc). you'll figure it out as you go! and don't be afraid to ask for clarification

tagging your liveblogs are pretty important since:

it's fun to liveblog with a bunch of people on your silly little gang of guys! helps u find friends to follow, and

people who follow the opposing team might want to filter out your commentary (more info below)

ouch, yikes. i don't want to see that (aka, filtering/blocking)

coming back to filtering, the nice thing abt tumblr is that u can filter out whatever tags/blogs/keywords you don't want to see on your dash

go to your blog settings to live peacefully and with prosperity

you can filter out team tags/liveblogs/players, anything you want. in fact, u are encouraged bc not feeling extreme rage over some picture on the dash of the team that knocked your team out of the scp does the body good

filtered posts don't disappear entirely from the dash (in case u have fomo), but when a blog u follow posts about something in that tag, you will see a blurred post with the tags you filtered, as well as an option to view the post

some users also have specific tags that they may have created for organizational purposes and to help you block specific content (e.g. #nhl trade rumors are my personal tag for, you guessed it, trade rumors. some ppl don't wanna hear that, so easy tagging for filter)

on that note: filter and move on. don't go into opposing team tags/liveblogs and talk shit or stir up shit. you will be blocked by. a significant amount of people. play nice y'all, it's hockey

not really my area of expertise on tumblr, but there's a pretty big rpf/fic community on hockeyblr. follow or block as you need!

player relationship tags are a good place to look for content (e.g. #sidgeno, #8771)

use the :readmore: function on tumblr liberally if you're posting fics - full player fics in the player tags can suck to scroll through for an outside user

i read smthn so interesting on someone’s blog but it would be weird for me to reblog it. so i saved it as a draft. but i wanna rant abt it. i’m going to be all over the place and probably not make sense because it applies to me, and much so like everything else, my interpretations and assumptions and experiences in the situation all together.

when a man prioritizes a friendship relationship over a romantic relationship, i get bad feelings. not only do i feel as tho i take biblical words to heart and it resonates deeply within me, but a relationship with two people &god is focused on just that. and everything else will flow as a result. okay. so i do litwrally mean to put ur relationship first before anything, in order to maintain a partnership. this could be in business, family matters, child raising etc etc. without a strong family bond, what else can follow? and of course this is entirely from my perspective and experiences.

i never in my life thought to find love again. i couldn’t bear another anxiety ridden, sexually intense relationship where i didn’t truly find myself really loved, only desired when the time is right. and it disgusted me. i found faults in pursuing relationships, because no one listened, only lusted, only desired what i can bring to the table. which in a sense is normal. that’s fine, it’s a human desire to want someone commendable. i get that. i never thought to trust someone who i could pour my heart in both anger, disgust, just regular conversation, as well as love and commitment. i thought “i will do my best with my son and show him i choose him above all” which i do. which goes right back to my first paragraph. i think a relationship rooted in god, faithfulness, commitment, will overall be my end goal. it came so organically that i have hope once more. i promise u never have to settle, u never have to worry, u never have to feel that anxiety again when ur truly motivated and loved. and looked after truly. i also feel that, as a woman, in a society and country that does not value my work or love as a person, it can get very daunting and negative. i DO find myself resonating with other women who feel trapped by a male serving society. that’s not to say i hate being a mother, or i hate being a wife. i hate devoting my life. it goes right back to what so any WOMEN AND MEN FEEL, resentment for a subpar society. i refuse to make enemies with the opposite sex and blame them. it’s life making enemies with another race and blaming them. it gets us nowhere as a whole and unity should be our end goal. instead of fighting the common man, we should be standing up to oligarchs LMAOOOO lemme stop because i’ll sound rly crazy when i explain this next part. but it’s not me, you, or the next. that’s y i do stand for all. wont dismiss that certain ppl benefit from a society. but in that sentence on its own, they benefit from an established society. not one person

Anon, I think that is entirely up to you and your measure of safety. Some people feel more confident not tying blankshipping to their main blog, because they are worried about backlash. That's fair I think.

Some people don't want to bother splitting blogs, that's also fair.

What would having a main blog out feel like for you versus a side blog? Pros and cons?

Here are some thoughts

Are you concerned about findability? I am glassesblu everywhere, and I consider this a main identity. If someone wanted to see my art anywhere, searching for glassesblu would yield several sites where I can be found. Some people find this unfavorable, wanting to keep blankshipping on its own.

Do you want mutuals, or for fellow shippers to know you are mutuals? The concept of mutuals is a very internet social media connection thing. People might feel some sort of acknowledge to know that they are mutuals with someone. Glassesblu is a sideblog, even if it is my main identity. This is just because many years ago I shifted my art out of the places where I throw all my reblogs at. Since this is the case, people might not even know that I, Glassesblu, like their work and follow them. I don't bother to declare it publicly, because why should I? I don't owe people my dashboard. I may tell someone directly or in private.

sometimes people want to separate platonic submas from romantic submas, and they like both. So they create more than one blog.

You can password lock sideblogs. They may interest you. This may be unimportant.

Sideblogs give you more anonymity from bullies. As someone who is known by glassesblu, I know that ppl have me on their blocklist lol. People may mention my name specifically and disparage me. Would this bother you? But some people have private messaged me saying they were encouraged by my being openly a blankshipper. I'm not doing anything wrong, and neither are they.

Think about what is important to you. Think about your personal comfort and safety. Think about what you enjoy in a fandom experience.

I saw your tags on my "Why do people keep recommending Dreamwidth as a Tumblr alternative" post, and I wanted to let you know that I actually have a guide to finding new stuff and people on Dreamwidth already written out! It should be relatively recent in my Dreamwidth 101 tag, but I can also dig it up for you if you like. Just maybe not for a while; I'm still catching up with all of the other notes on that post 😂

Thank you for sending this! I just went through your posts tagged dreamwidth, i think i found and liked the post you're talking about regarding how to find people on dreamwidth to chat with. I'll look into it more when i am setting up an account. <3

Ignore the below, its mostly just personal rant. ToT tldr: i think dreamwidth is cool and since i miss livejournal ill probs make an account regardless, but tumblr has some ways of using that just work better for some things i do regularly.

I plan to use dreamwidth eventually. Its just, ahh again like my tags ToT, the benefit of tumblr (over stuff like livejournal dreamwidth ao3) has been being able to easily have casual chats with people with shared interests even if they dont follow me or know how to find me specifically, long chats (unlike twitter), chats we can both save a copy of on our blogs just by reblogging. I do a lot of study blog stuff with sharing study ideas, where the informality of tumblr makes discussions warmer and more open to mentioning experiments and trial error than reddit (which language subreddits expect high quality informative additions mainly) and lets ppl find the discussion posts based on tags (again a bit easier than reddit and much easier for ppl to find then them trying to find Me specifically). And a lot of fandom liveblogging, which twitter is an alright alternative to but 1. Expects real name (and my job marketing i dont really want tied with grammatically messy giggling about some show) 2. Elon musk touching anything i make frankly 3 twitter is shortform so its not really compatible with 4000 word meta posts. Dreamwidth (and blogging sites) are. But then they're not super compatible with 20 other active show watchers finding you the same night theyre liveblogging and you all getting to chat excitedly.

Then as an artist... im glad tumblrs still up. Instagram doesnt encpurage reblogs, has a messed up algorithm, so its not good for new people finding you. Twitter is better with tags connected to public feeds, and reblogging culture, but elon musk is very cool with ai scraping any art posted and hes stolen art before personally anyway so i dont want my art near that. And then sites with no reblogging culture just are not great for spreading art to more people to find you. (I moved to tumblr after the deviantart exodus years ago, and while some ppl moved to twitter later as its also got common reblog usage which helps artists get more visibility, im just not super compatible with twitter ToT). I do wonder if eventually a new social media more artist focused will surface (since after deviantart pulled the "needs premium membership" push and ppl left, nothing really replaced it... tumblr is closest cause personal blogs allow for tagged/ personal blog Pages so you can organize art somewhat, compared to twitter or instagram. But tumblr itself was trying to push away from personal blogs too for a while, so who knows.)

Thanks for reaching out, anon! I am most certainly not a tumblr expert, but i'll feel flattered that you decided to come to me for some pointers?

For actually building your blog, I would suggest finding your "thing" and loosely sticking to it. Maybe a color palette, aesthetic, or content you usually post/reblog. Book quotes, gif sets, memes, artworks. Fandom-ing is networking - look through the tags, follow accounts that regularly post content you like and share it on. Like and reblog things, and tag your original posts accordingly - tumblr lives off this. If you are active on any other sides, such as ao3, link your tumblr blog over there - if i were to guess, about 80% of all my followers are readers of my stuff and came from over there.

As about finding people and friends - i would say, just be yourself and let it happen organically? Post content, react to content, engage with other readers/writers/fandom people. I see you found the ask box, so that is a great way to start - both anonymously or not.

Let me know if i should elaborate on something specific or go into more detail - you didn't state which "niche fandom" you are talking about, and even tho I am a vampire/dracula blog, i didn't want to assume. Anyway, hope this could help! 🖤

Wheres the Dp x Dc Aus Where Danny HATES The Justice League.

He think they're a bunch a boot licking government dogs. Like he respected when Batman was a vigilante but the fact he just used his power and money to make what he was doing legal. Danny doesn't like that. He's had zero positive interaction with rich adults and government body's. He's leaning full on anarchist.

Green Lanterns a space cop? Space is cool and all but the cop part of the that equation. It's a no go.

Superman seems cool but he knows, knows in his bones, no ones perfect and anyone who makes their brand "I may be one of the most powerful beings on this planet but trust me because I'm nice" is hiding something.

He doesn't like Wonder Women's lasso or how ok she is with using it. He's took away peoples freewill through overshadowing and has decided he's against it. He understands that sometimes you need to use your full kit if worlds are in danger but over all not even the vilest should lose the right to control.

Aguaman is flat out a king and while he doesn't have anything strictly against the man he's against royalty on principle.

He doesn't have anything to big against Flash or Martian Manhunter other than they are a part of the Justice League but he still doesn't like them for that reason.

He figures they're all a bunch of power hungry people who named themselves the protectors of earth for fame, fortune, and government power. Or they're a bunch of a bunch of ppl who do want to help but decided they should pretend to bend to the laws. They despite being government now still operate like vigilantes and the fact they get away with so much law breakage just screams corruption. It doesn't help literally all of Amity Park sent distress notes and signals to the Justice League and they didn't even show up when the city got stolen into another dimension.

Even Sam isn't as against the league as Danny and Tuckers abit of a fan boy. Neither bring up the league to Danny bc they know if he gets started he could go on an hour or longer rant.

When Dani flew of into the sunset the first time Danny warned her against trusting any "superheros" that were legal. That the Titans seemed better than The Justice League but to still be weary.

This au could be phantom planet compliant or not but think about just how much worse his hatred would be if he had to wrangle his rouges, freind's and reveal himself to the the world all bc the "planets protectors" couldnt protect it. In the complaint au he fully blames them for any human experimentation that happens bc people know about half ghosts now. And when they show the Amity Park after the asteroid he's like "Anyone in the Justice League or associated his banned from Amity Park." And they're like "You can not do that" and he's like "Batman gets to! He gets to ban all meta's with no regard for the consequences! He gets to despite the spike in meta hate crimes it causes. Try and stop me!" (The meta hate crime is just fanon for this specific au) the league respect the ban bc they want to become ally's with this VERY powerful and VERY angry kid.

In the non complaint version the banning still happens but the league doesn't respect it. This causes lots of problems. In both of them discovering Amity's problem is what sparks the plot.

Ok so what about a dp x dc fic that takes place in 2004 like dp originally does where tim and Danny are forum freind's.

It's very important you know this is neither a "Bruce adopts Danny" or Danny/tim fic.

It takes place during Tim's Robin run but they've been friends since they were 8 and 9.

Tim is 13 and Danny is 14 they're original runs are happening simultaneously.

Now here's where it get interesting. Neither tell each other about the vigilanting. Danny's only escape from a young age from ghost stuff was internet forums and Tim isn't just going to spill Batmans secret. Tim does however talk about himself.

Danny knows Tim's parents are neglectful. He has half a mind to just kidnap him away to Amity. Ghosts can't be that much worse than Gothams rouges. Then Tim starts talking about Bruce and Danny is convinced Bruce is grooming Tim or something.

Tims like "My neighbor has kind of adopted me" (in more words and less explicitly.

And Danny's just thinking 'a rich adult with a son that won't talk to him, and another son that is dead has taken interest in a vulnerable child.' he says however "Tim I know you love Gotham but you can always stay with me. My parents wouldn't mind!" Like he's been saying for years.

Because he knows he can't convince Tim with his hero worship of Bruce other wise and not ever sam's parents are rich enough to to go against a Wayne.

Tim doesn't do the best job explaining he's the one forcing himself on Bruce.

I don't know why ppl act like Amity Park should have figured out Danny's secret identity when it is by basic human understanding of the laws of the universe the the least obvious secret identity ever.

Reasons why someone wouldn't figure it out:

He's dead, how would he be that one alive kid?

They don't think Phantom has a secret identity at all.

Why would he be that one kinda pathetic nerd kid if he even did have a secret human ID.

His parents are ghost hunters, the leading Ghost hunters, surely surely they would know their own kid is dead.

Hey, I found your blog from somebody reblogging something completely unrelated to wrestling from you, but then I saw you had MJF as your little icon thingy, and I'm curious to get opinions from outside my little wrestling bubble (which, while very progressive, leans white, straight, cis, and male) about the decision to put the belt on him. Also, any opinions on Brawl Out, The Elite, and Phil you wanna throw in there. Consider this an ask about anything you wanna Go Off on in terms of AEW.

fwiw, i don't seem to hold the Brawl Out from All Out in the same way most of the wrestling fandom does. it feels like you have to take a definitive side and that's not my kind of thing, especially here. both sides definitely handled this poorly, from Punk to the Elite and TK. i think the investigation report and all of the emails and documents the legal teams have written would be a helluva read tho. mostly cos i think it would be nice to have clarification on what actually happened and i've been interested to hear the stories from the ppl who were there but not actively involved in the fight. i'm also one of the people who doesn't 100% think that Punk is done in AEW. he certainly doesn't have the world's greatest reputation in the industry, even more so now, so i wouldn't be shocked if he was done, but i'm just.. not convinced yet. i'm always a little suspicious when a wrestling company is involved so i'm more cautious with a wrestler's apparent exit. even more so when it’s not specifically discussed. i don’t even know what that pop would look like if his music hits again.

i'm probably not even 1% right in this, but here was my speculation before the mess happened post-PPV: i don't think MJF was supposed to have the belt this early. i'm glad he won, even if i would've booked the ending differently, but i don't think he was supposed to have won it at all in 2022. i think Punk was going to carry that title into the new year, and if Punk losing the title to MJF needed to be at a PPV at all, it would've been Revolution. it would've been a stretch, but i genuinely think Punk was supposed to have a decent run with the belt before losing it to Max. i also think, for the love of god, please let Moxley have a damn vacation, even if it was supposed to be for storyline purposes, he really fuckin deserves one.

and i may be biased but, even if it was earlier than i thought it would be, MJF deserves to have that belt. he’s the right guy to hold it right now and he’s earned it. and for AEW's part i think the build up to him and Mox's match was fairly decent for such short timing they had to plan it. it just makes me sulk that the Joker reveal and his interrupting CM Punk's celebration might never be a fully thought out storyline because a whole bunch of idiots thought violence backstage was a good way to work through their anger and frustrations. i like my soap operas of all varying types and categories to resolve and finish their storylines, so it makes me itchy when they don’t lol.

everyone always talks about the yellow wallpaper or some other sort of fucked up short story as one they were forced to read in school and vividly remember but for me i literally can’t get this other one out of my head

it was about a young woman who lived with her mom, and her sister was visiting. she talks about the juxtaposition of who her sis was when they were younger, how she was constantly pushing their culture and heritage away and wanting to go live in the city and have nothing to do with them but then when she visits as an adult she’s wearing like. these fancy clothes that DO come from their culture but obviously more Fashion about it, and she’s talking about how much she’s Learned Better about their heritage from ppl in the city and the thing that stuck out was how she was INSISTENT that this quilt the narrator+mom had shouldn’t have had it. that it shouldn’t have been “mistreated” the way they were (just by fucking using it) and it shoulda been in a museum???

and it didn’t get framed in like a mean way! the narrator wasn’t like a jerk about it to her, but it was so interesting cause when her sis left she was just like “well. that certainly happened.” and then goes right back to Life lol

the grimespostarchive mission statement

“mission statement” lol it sounds so serious but i wanted to talk briefly abt why i made this blog and the goals with it now that it’s not just me posting into the void

seems obvious, but im a big fan of grimes and her music. even with the controversy/”dIsCoUrSe” that surrounds her i find her to be a fascinating cultural figure. i’m also interested in lost media - how media can get lost, how it gets found, etc. etc. and if you know grimes you know she has a very fickle social media presence (no stranger to tweeting then quickly deleting, probably so her words don’t get taken out of context). 

if you’re unaware, grimes purged most of her tumblr once in 2013 and again in 2018 for a few reasons - the main one being that she was tired of her random personal posts being taken and turned into headlines by music publications like pitchfork and such. understandable for her, but kinda the burning of the library of alexandria for fans because grimes’ tumblr is almost historical looking at the incremental rise to popularity she had. it was also very humanizing, to see this successful musician was just another nerd on tumblr posting about game of thrones and reblogging anime gifs. i see why it became such a liability when she got more mainstream.

so now some of her old posts are still accessible on her blog (@actuallygrimes) but it’s been reduced a signifcant amount, any post pre-2013 is *poof* gone. the things that stayed were: promo for her music, fanart she reblogged/reposted (w/ credit), sharing music/videos she enjoyed, and random reblogs of art and other stuff. it’s fun to look through but it’s much different from how it used to be. (as far as i know. i became a fan around 2019, i’m in no way an og lol).

but, when you delete something on tumblr it doesn’t exactly get wiped clean or become unrecoverable. with how tumblr works with reblogs, a deleted post that’s unavailable on op’s page can still be accessed on the active page of someone who reblogged it. (i panicked one time because i accidentally deleted a pretty popular post on my personal blog, but that post is still floating around in the ether getting likes and reblogs, i just don’t get notifications about it.) 

i got inspired to make this blog after seeing that the blog @/worldheritageposts has some of grimes old deleted posts logged on their page, the actual post and not just a screenshot. i thought it would be fun to try and find these old deleted posts in the wild and compile them into one place - cuz there’s loads of screenshots of her deleted posts, but there isn’t really one place to find all of it. i have massive respect for orgs like Internet Archive and others who try to preserve internet content (preservation is sooo important esp in the internet age) so i wanted to do something like that on a smaller scale. 

idk how popular this page is going to get (i just made it for myself, anyone who finds it and enjoys it is more than welcome to stay) but know that i probably will post some of her more controversial/unflattering deleted tweets relating to e*** m*** for preservation. with that, i DO NOT!!!! DO NOT DO NOT DO NOT want any discourse or fighting on this page. i want this blog to be an archive of grimes’ lost internet posts, nothing more than that. anyone who tries to hate on grimes or start fights gets blocked, please don’t bring that here. actually if there’s anything important to takeaway from this post it’s this.

Hey you don't have to publish this but I wanted to thank you. I found it really comforting that you mentioned that you support folks (like me) who have trauma around the word queer and don't see us as enemies of ppl who use it as a self identifier. It meant a lot to me to see that.

Honestly, I really don't get people that do see y'all that way--it makes no sense! I totally get not using certain words for yourself, for any reason--whether you just don't like it or it's triggering for you, or you just don't like the word! That's fine, hon. No shame, no hate. I get it.

kind of a ramble under the cut

There are some lgbt+ terms, which are slurs or have been slurs, that I am comfortable using and feel that I am entitled to reclaiming, for various reasons. I respect other people that feel the same way. I also completely understand when and why people don't want to use certain words for themselves or others. It's normal, natural.

I use the word (Q) as a shield, it's my armor, my crown, the shining jewel in my collection. It encompasses every aspect of my sexuality, from the socially acceptable to the socially rejected. The surface level things and the highly personal ones. It connects me to more people than just "ace" or "bi" or "sapphic" do. It's a weapon that has been used against me, and I've remade it into something beautiful.

It would be hypocritical and inconsiderate of me to demand anyone do the same. What's the difference between me demanding someone call themselves (Q) and someone demanding I not? What's the difference between me forcing the word on you, and someone forcing it on me, as a weapon? Is it not more of a weapon when it's held by someone who is supposed to support you? Understand you? Would that not hurt you more? Would that not lower me to the same level as the usual bigots that weaponize lgbt+ terminology?

I think it does.

Because really, what's the difference between me demanding you define yourself a certain way, and a straight-cis person doing it? How does that not go against everything the lgbt+ community stands for? How does that not defeat the purpose of reclaiming language? I'm using (Q) as a shield, a point of pride--wouldn't that use be rendered inefficient, mocking, if I weaponized it against someone else?

this isn't really directed at you, anon. just generally speaking. reclaimed words are shields--they can and should be used to do damage when needed, as that is half the purpose of a shield. If you're being attacked, you need protection and helps to have protection that can be used against your aggressor. there is a very big difference between using language defensively and offensively--to shield or to harm. likewise, there is a big difference between telling someone not to use a certain term for themselves or even as a general term (such as Q), and asking someone not to use that word to refer to you. Both people who identify as (Q) and those who don't deserve respect toward the language they choose to describe themselves with.

if you scroll through my blog long enough, especially a few of my (Q) and pride tags, you'll undoubtedly find a few posts where I'm using what a lot of people would consider offensive or harmful language towards myself--this may be in response to an attack toward me or in response to a positivity post of another person using similar language (such as the posts @megatronismegagone and I have reblogged from each other). I tend to use the word (Q) in ways that most other (Q) people find regressive, harmful, and offensive. I understand why. I respect their views. I don't respect the people who attack me for embracing the innate otherness--the feeling of isolation, the stigmatization, the ostracizing--that comes with being part of the lgbt+ community in our current society. We are a minority--we're treated as a minority, for better and for worse, and that's not going to change in my lifetime. It sucks but it's true. We are different--we're not the "typical" cisgender, straight allosexual. I am none of those words!

Even within the community, my sexuality and the language I use, is ostrasized. I'm on the ace spectrum. I'm very often rejected from even the ace community because of my unique experience with sexual attraction. I'm bisexual--that's more ostrasization. I'm panromantic--yet more! I use the word (Q) for myself and often as an umbrella term--I've gotten a lot of flack for that, from other sapphics especially. I've been told I should be straight--I've been told I should be gay. Such are the woes of bisexuality. I've been told that I just "haven't met the right person, yet" or that I'm "just not there, yet" and such are the woes of being ace. I've been told that romantic attraction is the same as sexual--such are the woes of experiencing life with a split-attraction brain. the thing is, is no one can win.

If I say I'm (Q), I'm homophobic. If I say I'm bi, I'm faking or a cheater or perverted. If I say I'm ace, I'm inexperienced, naive, or broken. If I say I'm panrom, I'm broken, biphobic, faking, pretentious. If I use all of my words, even just bi-asexual and panromantic, I'm all of it. But what's the alternative??? What's the alternative to these words? What's the alternative to my experience and existence???

There is none.

so, either we make our own choices--we use the language we're comfortable with and demand respect regardless of it--or we cower beneath unending tides of linguistic tyranny. I vote for the former.
