the air in the room is thick with unspoken words, a tangible tension that seems to press down on your chest. liam stands by the window, his silhouette framed by the dim light filtering through the curtains, his back rigid, fists tightly clenched. you draw in a deep breath, feeling the weight of the moment, and attempt to steady your wavering voice.

"why won't you just talk to me, liam? what's going on?" you inquire, your voice tinged with a growing frustration that simmers just beneath the surface.

he whirls around, his eyes glacial and unyielding. "you really want to know? fine. let's talk about how you always run away when things get tough."

a heavy weight descends upon your chest, pulling your heart into a chasm of despair. "what are you talking about?"

"don't play dumb, y/n. every time we hit a rough patch, you bolt. you can't handle anything that isn't perfect." he forces the words out through clenched teeth, each syllable laden with barely restrained fury.

a tumultuous blend of guilt and anger churns within you, each emotion vying for dominance in the labyrinth of your heart. "that's not true. i just need space sometimes."

liam's visage transforms into a mask of unyielding resolve, his features set in an unforgiving rigidity. "space? is that what you call disappearing for days without a word? leaving me wondering if you're ever coming back?"

you advance with deliberate steps, your voice crescendoing with each word. "i need time to think! you never give me that. you suffocate me."

he retreats a step, his voice laced with a biting sarcasm that cuts through the air like a sharpened blade. "oh, so now it's my fault? you're the one who can't stick around and work things out."

your eyes narrow to slits, the glistening threat of tears teetering on the brink of falling. "i try, liam. but you make it so hard. you push and push until i can't take it anymore."

liam's face contorts with a fury that seems to burn from within. "you know what your problem is, y/n? you're a bolter. the minute something goes wrong, you run. you're nothing but a coward."

the words slice through you like a dagger, and you feel your heart fracture into a thousand irreparable pieces. "how dare you say that? i care about us, but i can't keep fighting if you don't believe in me."

he fixes you with a piercing glare, his jaw clenched so tightly that it seems to be carved from stone. "believe in you? how can i, when you keep running away?"

with that, he storms out of the room, the door slamming shut with a thunderous crash that seems to shake the very walls. his final words, dripping with venom, reverberate in your mind, leaving a lingering, painful sting that burrows deep into your soul and refuses to fade, casting a shadow over your thoughts and emotions.

the silence that follows is almost tangible, an oppressive force that presses down upon you, amplifying the weight of his words that hang heavy in the air like a storm cloud. you sink to the floor, your legs giving way beneath the burden of your emotions, tears streaming down your face in a torrent as you grapple with the overwhelming sense of loss and confusion, wondering how everything unraveled so disastrously.

you squeeze your eyes shut at the memory, your back pressed firmly against the headboard, as if seeking solace from its solid presence. the recollection floods your mind, each detail sharp and vivid, causing a shiver to run down your spine as you try to ward off the haunting images.

you and matt had engaged in a similarly heated argument just the other day, the crux of it revolving around your tendency to shut him out. the words exchanged were sharp and biting, each one a dagger that deepened the chasm between you, leaving an echo of unresolved tension in its wake.

you have always been a runner. people would often hurl insults, calling you a whore for it, but their words never penetrated the fortress you built around your heart. it didn't matter to you because, in the grand tapestry of your existence, you needed to prioritize your own happiness, to shield yourself from the ever-present fear of getting hurt. the prospect of emotional pain loomed like a dark cloud, and so you ran, seeking the clear skies of self-preservation.

all your fucking lives flashed before your eyes with every word matt uttered that day. each syllable seemed to unravel a tapestry of memories, yet it wasn't as harrowing as the venomous words that your previous boyfriends had once wielded like weapons. their cruelty had carved deep scars, but matt's words, though piercing, were but a shadow of the pain you had endured before.

hii! hope you're doing well. was curious and wanted to ask who or what has been your main art or art style inspiration? and how long/when did you start doing art?

oh hmm this is a good question, it’s really hard to say because i’ve been drawing like. as long as i can remember really?

i don’t really know how i came to develop my style LOL i think growing up i watched a lot of both anime & western cartoons, so i think my style has aspects from both?

i really like playing around with showing characters’ expressions, not just with their face but the pose, the line art, the colors, all of it you know? like, you can convey emotions with more than just the face and i loveee that in art. like you know in media when a character doesnt show their emotions but maybe the lighting/camera angle/etc changes to show that instead. yeah i eat that UP

i’m a avid believer of “get weirder with it” and you should always do weird experimentation with ur art. one day try shading with a color that you would never use. use that exaggerated perspective that might not be accurate but it looks cool and invokes a feeling etc. paint grian on an index card using neon pink paint idk u make the rules !!

oh i also do have a tag on my main blog for art that is inspiring to me, so i guess that’s a bit of insight into where i get inspo as well? sooo yeah

You’re the resident chilchuck expert, so I was wondering about it there’s any canon evidence that he did smoke or drink alcohol when the kids were younger. I always thought it was something he picked up due to the strain of long jobs, when the kids were already older, but you seem to think differently and I was wondering if there was anything in canon that made you think that way!

Now that you mention it I guess it’s true there’s no evidence he did. Smoking we literally only know he does at all because of one post-canon panel where he has a pipe, so no, maybe this stick-looking thing in the panel below too though, I’m not familiar with medieval blunts eh. We’ve only gotten one panel of him and his daughters interacting when he was younger so that’s not too insightful on that end, and every time we see him young and freckled it’s in a job context so again not really where we’d expect him to be drinking. The earliest proof (/heavy implication since we don’t see inside his cup I guess) is 3 years before canon when Laios hired him, where he’s at a bar, classily placed in front of all the bottles ✨

Yes alcohol is almost certainly a way through which he copes especially with stress, so if we go with the theory he started around when work got stressful, well… Chilchuck started working as a dungeon diver ~10 years ago so when he was ~19, making Mei, Fler and Puck ~6 and ~4 respectively, so from that draw the ‘stressful enough to start drinking’ line wherever. We don’t know what he did before that with any certainty, and it could be he did odd jobs, lived off mostly mutual aid and community work, or just focused on only raising the girls. Half-foots tend to be poor and I see a lot of that in Chilchuck specifically so I don’t think he could have afforded to not have some paying work though.

Alright, so then why do I think he did drink when the girls were younger?

I give a more complete rundown of the info we do have on his alcoholism & his family with panels and references + all the speculation I make from it here. But the most targeted and objective answer I can give is:

Of course there’s just very very little we know of Chilchuck’s life with his family, and I think that’s by design too. I think the details being up in the air is to allow more nuance of the topic, like, will trying to reconcile go well, is their relationship salvageable? We don’t know, because we don’t know. So the message of giving hope a chance even if it’s a long shot, that things could truly go either way, is more relevant, impactful and meta in that way. How long was he usually away for work travels into dungeons here and there? How did he act with them? All we can really do is "it’s likely that", it’s a game of which way we think it’s more implied. There’s no right and wrong answer, it’s all Marcille-like larping the events out.

My main reason for thinking he did is that his father died from overdrinking and Chilchuck is very aware of that. He mentions his death casually in the extra about their stance in alcohol and in his Adventurer’s Bible profile, etc. He acts towards the alcohol presumably the same way his father did: with abandon, uncaring for the health effects, probably happily too considering Chil says "dying doing something you love is a good way to go". Very nonchalant. So you see what I’m saying here right, wether he started early or late, his view of alcoholism is very influenced by what he saw of his father growing up, it’s something he’s always been aware of and saw in a mostly positive light, something that was inherited you could say. It’s something that was normalized to him from a young age. Regardless or where it goes from there I do think this part is pretty inarguable. If he views it positively and we know that in the present alcohol is his favorite food that he loveees, why would he have held out on it? Personally that all makes me think he started drinking very young, especially since I don’t think they limited alcohol to age as much as modern standards (and I mean, teen drinking is obviously still a thing). And here you could argue, maybe his father only started being more alcoholic later when Chilchuck moved out, or something! And to that there’s nothing I can say except I think that’s a strained theory, and that Chil might even have largely cut contact with his family after moving out (since he and siblings are listed as almost strangers and he doesn’t seem to have much emotional attachment to his parents, but also we know he rents out his place to "a relative"), but it’s true we have no evidence. "I’ve picked up the same unhealthy substance abuse as my father haha! No big deal right haha" repeated several times to me just reeks of intergenerational trauma, & the alcoholism gene as they call it. Like effortless sliding into drinking as if it’s second nature, it’s natural after all, it’s normal after all, it just makes sense, it makes you feel good and that’s what matters.

BUT from my interpretation then we have a whole other layer: Alcohol is of course not all bad always. I think he’s always liked alcohol and drank it on occasion and it brought him joy etc etc, but I think here the implication in the question is, how much effect did his drinking have on the family relations and how early? And that isn’t so much about when him drinking started but when the alcoholism started. Addiction is defined by a habitual need, that has negative effects from filling that need (physical, psychological, social, etc) and negative effects from withdrawal. If Chilchuck drinks to cope and he can’t not cope without it, that’s addiction, if it affects his relationships, if it’s a need he has, it’s addiction. Addiction can be very insidious or look very casual, and how much people around the person are affected by it is case by case. Cheerful drunks can be sooo annoying and uncomfortable though let me tell you. Drunks are drunks. And this sounds harsh, but even if people around them don’t mind drunks it’ll still have some effects here and there, living with one can be such a challenge, ily drunks good luck with everything much like Chilchuck you deserve good things 🫡　

Ok so with the dad thing and the "ok well maybe he’s always drunk casually but it grew worse with time around when he started working as a dungeon diver" precision made, the other bit of info we have that can inform this is that Chilchuck is on a harsh diet and that alcohol is a hunger suppressant. We know Chilchuck "used to be fine not eating for two days", that literally on screen to quench his hunger so it doesn’t keep him awake he goes to drink water, drinking is his instinct to hunger. Again alcohol is a hunger suppressant and if you want info on that the internet has a lot of research and anecdotes about it. He diets to be light enough to not trigger traps, so it’s something he’d have started after dungeon diving most likely. Between the stress and the diet, yes it’s extremely likely he started going harder on alcohol after he started working in dungeons. There’s arguments on wether two days without eating is less bad for half-foots than humans, but apart from smaller portions there’s nothing that indicates half-foots should get less than 3 meals a day. They need less food but that’s because their bodies are smaller: the need is proportional to the body, not smaller than others’ races, the % of need is similar even if the kg amount of food isn’t. There’s also a popular headcanon with support basis that half-foots run hot and have a faster heartrate and whatnot, and that points towards a faster metabolism rather than a slower one: a bigger need for eating rather than a smaller one. He has the same bmi, 18, as Mickbell, but perhaps because Chil is much taller he’s less intensely visibly underweight with ribs showing than Mick during the bath extra, it’s most apparent when he becomes tallman.

Alcohol is something so important and omnipresent in his character that I have trouble believing it’s something that was part of only a small fraction of his life. It’s his immediate go-to, his no-brainer solution to a good time, I’ve sort of always assumed especially after looking at his family that it’s something he discovered decently young. Like he just acts like someone who’s always had alcohol to fall back on and started young idk. Alcohol is one of his 5 keywords. Alcoholism is very ingrained into his world view and life, his "it doesn’t matter" stance his ‘work hard play hard’ mentality his idea that the world is harsh so you get relief where you can, so it just makes sense to me that it’s always been in his life, if not actively then at least looming.

So yes, in summary, my take: Alcohol was always something he wholly enjoyed to an unwise level, but it could have been considered casual until he started working into dungeons and his need for it on a regular basis intensified. Alcohol has always had positive association to him as far as we see, so when it started being a problem he didn’t see it as such. To quote him, "I drink anytime I get the opportunity to". Why always? Approval of father’s alcoholism. Why alcoholism at all? Diet + stress & coping mechanism & emotional stunting + relationship issues, and she decided she had enough after they went out for drinks.

Conclusion

Chilchuck having drunk from a young age makes sense to me and it’s the strongest narrative angle I see on the table, but that’s objectively a me opinion, yes! There’s no evidence, moreso there’s canon basis and supporting info, but it’s all very left up to interpretation. I’ve made my own interpretations of things from the scraps we see, like everyone else making Chilwife and daughters content. Wether you have a stance on the topic or prefer to leave it vague in your takes, it’ll be a matter of what you think makes most sense, or what you’d rather believe I suppose (which is literally fine)

There’s a lot of subjectivity in even just setting up causal links like you probably noticed during this and I was careful with my word choices, because we’re just extrapolating from what we see and unless Kui states it explicitly from a reliable mouth all we can do is have informed opinions on most things. This particular interpretation is influenced by other details I’ve come to form about my interpretation of Chilchuck too, the more psychological and emotional sides of him and the timeline and how his marriage even happened, unplanned pregnancy imo. Like I hope you see what I mean, this wasn’t supposed to be a speculation post just a quick simple answer but there’s sort of just no other and concise but complete way with the subjectivity nuance to put "maybe it could be yes because of this but maybe it could be no because of this" haha

Edit: Wait the phrasing on this… Interesting. "In recent years"— This does imply that if not just his alcohol consumption increasing then the diversity and quality of it did, so either he indeed did start drinking more (not necessarily meaning he didn’t drink before) assumedly because of his wife leaving, or he started drinking other/more different kinds of alcohol maybe due to the union he formed + his experience gave him greater salary than he had previously (and no wife and family to provide money for), a mix of both perhaps.

Teenager: dysphoria begins

S4 Post top/T start: nervous about dog hybrid status. Hat boy (hides his hair length/ears with a beanie)

S5: no longer shy/ got haircut for resistance (After a season with the hermits he doesn’t mind them knowing he’s not a human, Iskall and him gave each other haircuts)

S6: starting to actually care about his appearance (Doc gave him the shades in s5 to me sorry gri)

S7: oops nvm he’s fucked up mentally (Season 7 was a huge mental strain and he stopped cutting his hair)

S8: Hair got singed off a lot by the lava (a bit shorter than he usually likes it)

S9 (start): s8’s ending destroyed him. Had to basically be sent back to square 1 by X. Body was changed including hyper hair growth.

(Basically jumping into a giant ball of lighting destroyed the fake lungs he had to use to breath. X had to basically alter his core code to allow him to live. When he respawned he was basically a ball of hair and fur. This is where the dog legs/paws/furry arms begins)

S9 (current): hair got cut when he was degraded/dethroned. Unsure if he wants to grow it out again or cut it

(When impulse killed him in the final challenge, he beheaded him, including his hair. Dying is very weird to Ren now and it changed his body again, giving him his people arms back. He gets more furry and less furry and random intervals now.)

There’s my hairs for now, I have so many thoughts about Ren I love him so bad he’s so slay to me I’ll draw certain scenes in my head at some point mainly that last one also sorry for the physical sketch I couldn’t be bothered to digitalize the same face 9 times

It took three evenings + some finishing touches on the 4rd day… So I think roughly 15 hours? Which is more than usual, but there’s been some shortcuts: since I painted the background, I didn’t have to do a lot of lineart (the most time-consuming and difficult part was Lilia’s uniform)… but then I went and spent all this time on the embroidery and other details lol

I really love drawing something bigger from time to time; it requires a lot of thinking juices and time, but it’s so worth it at the end.

Alright if I ABSOLUTELY HAVE TO, let’s go with Ace; he is clingy, hot-headed, annoying and horny enough for that LOL Just like you said, it’s the combined douchebag energy! I really like the idea of- you know what, I’ll talk about these two tomorrow when I post the hc post >:3 I have much to say. But also, totally agree with the brother-tax. You go, Trappola-aniki, steal Fellow from him. I feel like they would actually end up having a lot in common and maybe even genuinely enjoy each other company, oh no… (also Damn there are a lot of gingers in this whole situation…)

Kalim/Fellow is super fun though, they deserve their own sitcom. It’s super easy to imagine everything you’ve mentioned and described; poor Fellow, he doesn’t even know that he is about to experience Jamil’s overprotective nature!...

What I found interesting about their interactions is that even though it feels like Fellow would easily sell his body and soul to Kalim and shower in his money, whenever Kalim actually tells Fellow that he would pay him, Fellow looks very offended. I guess it’s because Kalim being so carefree with his money and unintentionally flexing is very irritating and even insulting. Kalim gets so confused by this reaction, he just wanted to help...

So I can picture Fellow getting nervous surrounded by Kalim’s riches, keeping Gidel close to himself in case he pickpockets something (he’ll still manage steal so much shit). With this feeling in the back of Fellow’s mind that even though Kalim is kind and sweet, he could easily try to buy him just like Fellow’s bosses always do, and he’d be waiting for this moment very tensely… and maybe even anticipating for it at some point. Maybe after some time, he’d start hoping for it. Man would go full 180 in his mind while Kalim is just out there trying to be the best host possible lol

(As for Jamil… Who knows, maybe Kalim would even be cursed enough to ask Jamil about whether he’s jealous or not… or even worse, he won’t even ask, just tell Jamil not to worry about it. This is so much worse, Jamil would overblot again due to the stupidity of the situation…)

i LOVE writing her dialogue LMAOO. her whole gimmick is that she acts wayyyyy older than she actually is, and when i say that i mean she truly acts like an old man. she is a very slow talker a mover and figuring out how to write for her has been lots and lots of fun !!!!

she uses a lot of ellipses... and always drags on a sentence if it is possible. she never uses exclamation points if she can help it... because she tries not to raise her voice... and typically doesn't get excited or emotive about many things. she trails off a lot, either on a tangent about a sailing story or simply because she has lost focus... and includes a quote from her afi or from a writer that can shed wisdom on the situation. everything is a lesson to be learned, you see... she also tends to repeat herself at the end of the sentence, she does. it's either "you see" or some variation of "i do/i am", depending on what was said... and of course she always refers to her boats and the ocean using she/her. laughs like an old man too, eheheh... always keeps the mood light

but, uh, when she gets flustered she uses "um" and "uh" a lot. especially when backed into a corner. sounds a lot less wise. her sentences get shorter when she's upset. real short. she tends-- you see, she tends to stutter a lot more when she is stressed, or in a tense mood. corrects herself, or-- sometimes, she cuts herself off before she says anything too harsh. her tone grows a lot more "childish", and she wants to sound like she knows what she is doing. won't raise her tone. just gets rather blunt with you.

unless she gets very irritated. because then she starts to emphasize certain words to you in an almost condescending manner, and-- and she still might stutter over her words because she is thinking less about them, but they are all flowing out of her mouth at this point. and if you push her too far she'll start yelling! exclamation point! it is rare to get an exclamation point from her! if you push her hard enough she'll scream! she'll fucking yell!!

SOOOOOOOOO sae as of right now is being used in a killing game rp which means i get to write for her pretty oftennnnn :) she gets to hang out with a whole cast of awesome characters that are both amazing and stressing her out so badly. as hell. it is chapter 2 currently (we're at the motive!!) and literally every single thing is going wrong (the motive concerns her family and of course her afi was threatened bc thats all shes got, her plan to escape failed miserably and shes starting to resent people with very little reason, somebody in the killing game knows JUST WHAT TO SAY to seriously push her buttons) but she'll persevere 😍 she'll persevere and get so much worse

i loveee the rp server bc the people there love to write fics and draw art of their own AND each others characters and i eat it up every single time. me included i love creating for these rps :) which MEANS i actually do draw and write for her a bit often!! now a lot of it is practice and/or doesn't get sent to the server lmfaooo i think the last fic i wrote for her (and finished-- i keep starting things and stopping 😔) was a backstory fic for her about that one bad memory i mentioned in the last ask :) a single person has read it and that is the person running the rp in the first place ghfdjkg

My wiggly finger is the first thing you see when your eyes peel open~ the gentle morning light peering in from the fluttering curtains. Wiggling from a distance while I stand at the foot, a knowing grin crookedly in my lips as I flutter up the blankets and reveal your feet. One hand is on my hip, my tallness dressed my black silky lingerie cinched with a thick waistbelt, my hair in a messy bun~ "Wakey wakeyyyy~" I squeak, drawing my finger carefully along the underside of each toe. "Noooope keep those heereee~" I taunt, pulling your feet back to me when they squirm so I can carefully glide the backside of my index fingernail along the wrinkle of each sole.

I sigh like the gentle breezies coming across the bed, propping up on one elbow next to you now as I look adoringly down. That finger floats about, taking an aerial tour of your body when I peel back the blankets. "Morning sleepyhead~ ready for your ticklessss?" I snicker and delight at your wiggles, following your every motion with my taunting finger tickling the air above your spots. "Ah, ah, ah~" I gently admonish, pushing aside your hands when you try to reflexively block me from teasing over your tummy. My smile beams down seeing you lay back and let me tease, finally bringing that finger down to start tracing elegant circles along your twitching tummy. "Tickle tickle~ tiiiiickle~" I coo, making little exclamations whenever you react. "Ooooo~" my lips purse thoughtfully as I start adding more fingers, lightly dancing and occasionally making a rapid skitter along the outer edges of your belly or ribs.

I start tracing upward, drawing looping circles over your chest and around each button. "Shhh shh shhh~" I murmur when I start gently tickling at those hot spots. I lean in to give your collar light loving kissies before planting my lips on each button for slight brushy flirty tickles. anyways stuff abt coloring below

honestly i kinda just fuck around with color, technically i somewhat understand color theory but despite that im bad at choosing the right colors straight from the color wheel so a lot of times i just hsb adjust things until theyre right

ive got two different ways i color things currently:

softish shading with a marker brush in greyscale, applying too many color adjustment layers, and then coloring a little on top of the greyscale to make things not monochrome. usually i color on top of a clipping mask bc its a lot easier, which i did in the ace attorney one but not in the merlin one for ?? no reason i guess i just didnt think abt it lmao

the other way is i decide what color i wanna cast the whole drawing in and i make that the base clipping mask layer (which ive been making like. neon green a lot lately lmao) and then i block in color on top of that, and shadow color on top of that. the cybersix ones a great representation of what im doing there but its a little chaotic since all of the sketches were meant to be cropped oops. the cowboy danny phantom ones a lot cleaner of an example haha

i really like doing the second method because it also works great with lineless and also i really like comparative colors? i know theres a better phrase for it but like. when one color looks like a different color when its put in a different colored space. like when im making things green, id color blue things in the scene green and red things in the scene a muddy orangey color. or when i was really into yellow id make the blues purple. idk usually the “blue” in the scene is first color i like to figure out im not sure if its because its my favorite color or if its because i love drawing jeans but thats just how it goes lmao

oh also putting things on a or neutral bg helps to pick colors a lot easier than keeping the default white bg, i always turn it off and leave it transparent until im finished lmao. i use procreate light mode so its still rather light but not too bad

i dont really have any palettes that i intentionally adhere to, no, but i do get kind of stuck using the same colors for a few months before moving to something different. rn im very stuck on green and need to accept that not everything needs to be the grossest greens ever and ive been stuck on it for about six months? in the past i was really stuck on yellow haha

i get hyperfixated on my interests to the point where it’s all i want to think about and talk about and do. i love love loveee buying merch of my interests!! a lot of times i’ll even find myself tempted to buy/actually buying merch of things i’m not even into if i find the characters/mascots particularly cute or pretty~

my favorite aesthetics are glitchcore, webcore, kidcore, dreamcore, weirdcore, and circuscore. i honestly love all colors and rainbows but if i had to pick a favorite it’d be light pink. according to spotify, my favorite music genres are scenecore, sped up, pop, glitchcore, and pixel. if i met someone who had the same favorite songs as me and wanted to dance to them together (or dance together to any songs, really) i’d probably just melt immediately lol, that’s sooo dreamy (*´꒳`*) my love languages for both giving and receiving are physical touch and gift giving.
