#i may have been eaten by a cat but I can still make you regret looking at my man

I hate that tumblr has turned me into a Dottore simp...
But now I can't stop thinking about Dottore with a boyfriend with ADHD. Would he make notes?? I also think it would be extra hilarious if the reader was his lab assistant, like-
Dottore: How the hell did you get this done so quickly??
Reader: I haven't eaten, drank or moved from my desk for the last 12 hours.

to worry a physician [m.reader]
morax anon and i are so in sync in the simping game, it’s beautiful. this is why ily. this was hilarious to write LMAO. so here’s another quickie for you. also don’t imitate dottore’s methods, he’s a lil unhinged 😔
𖦹 slightly suggestive in the end (again do not imitate dottore’s methods), a brief use of dottore’s real name
Tumblr media
“H-Hey now… let’s not… jump to certain actions that we might soon regret…”
The cold metal was difficult against your back, you felt like a slab of meat hurled on some form of metal chopping board. You tried to get up but your beloved was quick to push you back down.
You winced as the buckles tightened around your body.
“You know how much I despise hypocrites, [Name].”
Suffice to say, it was a miracle that you were the last man standing amongst the myriad of assistants that the infamous second harbinger have been given. He went through all of them like a child digging into sweets ferociously, sometimes even quite viciously tearing them all apart limb from limb.
And yet somehow, you were the odd one out. You somehow managed to even keep up with the asinine nonsense that Dottore prattles on and on, writing down notes that you can barely organize either because your master is already jumping on the next topic, that or simply because there are tendencies of you forgetting to do them.
But even that didn’t trip you up. Because by a shot of luck, the harbinger found himself curling into your presence and starting to appreciate your efforts to a certain degree. He’s merciless, but he’s grown lenient on days where you are completely restless. Dottore may be cruel but he’s not a hypocrite.
Perhaps it is why you’re proudly wearing the title as Dottore’s far more favored being than the rest — his dearest beloved, a promised love that Dottore could never bother to share with others. He was possessive, that’s for sure, and he will keep you away from anything and anyone, even from the many segments of himself. It was hilariously pathetic, it’s like seeing a cat get so terribly territorial — only that it’s the very same cat that can lobotomize you in a split second if you so much as screw up any of his work.
However, it was as if it was innately built in you to catch up with him. It’s why Dottore finds you so interesting and remotely entertaining — the fact that you can barely make an organized effort on certain things, but when it comes to him, you’re all ears and can fulfill just about any task he has given you. Truly, you are his pride and joy and there can be no one in this world that can even refute that in the slightest.
But even Dottore can be extreme in his expression of affection, often toeing the threshold between something wholesome and adorable to something completely insane.
And aren’t you just the klutz, making the poor doctor worry.
You knocked on the door before entering — Dottore already told you to come in regardless, considering that you’re the only he has given his permission to do so. But still, you were his assistant, and even as his boyfriend, you still held a high degree of respect to the man (lest you barge in on him on his bad day and end up becoming a lab rat).
“I got what you asked for.”
Tearing himself away from his work, the doctor turned to you, half of his brain still very much attuned to the poor monstrosity of a cadaver that he just recently hacked away and toyed with, “What did I ask for?”
“Uhh… well, financial expense report for your Balladeer project in Sumeru, some relevant literatures for your current… cadaver endeavors, the new assignments that you got from the Jester that you somehow managed to push on me, the letter from Sumeru’s grand sage that you kept on whining about, and some samples that you asked from some poor unfortunate soul out there.”
Dottore’s eyes narrowed as he retained all the errands you’ve listed. Only for him to turn to you, a look of complete skepticism plastered on his temporarily unmasked face, “…That’s everything that I asked you to do.”
You slowly nodded, “…Yes? Is… something wrong with that?”
“I have made precise calculations of the average arrival of every single thing that I asked from you. A good half of them would have taken you a few weeks at most.”
“…Yes, well aware of that.”
You suddenly felt your poor tie getting yanked down as you came face-to-face with your normally unhinged lover, “Are you slacking on me? Are you cutting corners? You know I have no tolerance for such things.”
“Wait, dear— my tie.”
“I believe that head of yours should be the focus of your concerns, dear.”
At this point, resistance was futile, so you merely gave in with a sigh, carefully placing the basket filled with every single thing that he asked for. Dottore gave a side glance at your submissions, almost taken aback by the mountainous height of the papers you’ve stacked.
Still, while he may be lenient on you on certain things, he knows and expects that you above all are aware of the fact that he highly prioritizes his work. He still has to keep you in line after all if you’re starting to slag on your duties as his assistant.
“This is suspiciously early. It’s only been four days since these assignments. What did you do?”
You laughed a little, “You know I would never jeopardize your work, Zandik. I’d rather be six-feet under than even consider that in the first place.” The way his red eyes glowered, was enough to make you feel small, “…I… swear it…”
“Talk.”
“I only had to cut out a few unnecessary things on my schedule so I can focus on my tasks… like… sleep or… meals. Just… a couple, I promise.”
That wasn’t true. It wasn’t a deliberate cutting out. It’s only that you’ve fixated on your work and that you were always itching to be on the move that you completely lost track of your time and ultimately screwed with your time frame in eating and sleeping. You barely ate and barely slept and your stack of work was the testament of that.
What. Dottore blinked slowly as his brain processed the information you so very generously dropped on him. You, in your efforts of focusing on your tasks… had managed to cut off the only very reason why you’re even alive in the first place. The most necessary part of your day, which now somehow was deemed as otherwise, was cut out of your schedule just to do his work.
Dottore has discreetly admired your dedication as his assistant, and quite frankly that was the reason why you’re still alive and still sleeps in the same bed as he does every single night. But something about the fact that you’ve neglected yourself just for his work was enough to irk the ruthless doctor.
The loosening grip on your tie tightened into a vice and before you knew it, your back was met with the cold hard surface of an empty operating table — it wasn’t even one of those that bend and are cushioned for comfort, it was where he often placed his experiments in.
“Wait, wh—” you quickly swallowed your complaint the moment you saw his eyes glinting dangerously down at you.
“I need to pry your brain open.”
You almost choked on air as you heard your lovers words, you immediately propped yourself up by your elbows, “What do you mean pry my brain open?!”
“I mean cracking that thick skull of yours to see whether or not something went wrong in your wiring,” Dottore’s movements were swift as he climbed up to the table, straddling your hips as he reached for the belt buckles attached at the side of the this cold metal slab.
“H-Hey now… let’s not… jump to certain actions that we might soon regret…”
And now here you are, at a complete stalemate with your beloved boyfriend, with you completely under his mercy. You were tied down and those leather straps were not at all helping you in making your grand escape. Not to mention, you can’t exactly just shove off your boyfriend.
“Not eating or sleeping for days just to complete your work would have been admirable had it not been for the fact that you need it.” Dottore sighed, reaching out a gloved hand to cup your face, squishing your cheeks together, “And here I thought you were slacking on your work… only to find something far worse.” The grip on your cheeks tightened.
You only shot him a pleading look, absolutely trying not to get your brain picked on. Your beloved had finally granted your reddening cheeks some mercy as he let go of it, “It’s not exactly something I can help, y’know? It just comes onto me naturally.”
“You not eating or even barely sleeping for the next four days is natural?” The harbinger was perplexed to say the least. “Would you like me to repeat that again so you can hear just how utterly asinine your words are?”
Huffing, you turned your cheek to the other direction, only to be faced by a dismembered head and immediately looked back at your lover, “I just wanted to make sure you have no hassle in the long run. And like I said, I don’t mind it.”
“I, however, mind the fact that if you keep this up, I might be looking for a potential replacement in just a few days once you kick the bucket.” He huffed back at you, “I hate inconveniences.” His scowl was deep and showed complete frustration towards you and your actions.
And for a quick second, your sleep and nutrient deprived mind had finally stopped to take in as you realized that this was Dottore’s odd way of showing concern. He met your gaze, and with the way your eyes tendered as the realization sank into you, he was far too late.
“Aww, pumpkin… you were worried—?”
“Perish the thought. Absolute lunacy. Whatever. Have it your way — I’ll indulge myself this time.”
“Indulge your… H-Hey! Where are you touching?!”
Dottore’s smile was wicked and devious as his hands traveled somewhere far south, copping a quick feel, “By my initial diagnosis, it seems as though you’ve been experiencing bouts of hyperactivity to the point of neglect at your food intake as well as the much needed rest. Why don’t I sort this out? As your personal physician, I suggest we do something about that before assigning your prescribed medications, no?”
Fret not, he made good on his promise — and fed you before tucking you in bed… but not after feeding him yourself.

The Mysterious Case of Jaskier's Immortality
Word count: 3601
*
“So nice to see you again, Yennefer,” Jaskier says, putting on one of his many fake smiles.
“Jaskier,” she replies with a smile that almost looks genuine but Jaskier is pretty sure that it’s not. Which she confirms a few seconds later by saying: “Shouldn’t you be dead already?”
“I see you’re as kind as always, my dear. But don’t you worry, Geralt is doing a very good job when it comes to protecting me.”
“Hm,” Geralt sighs resignedly, clearly regretting his decision to spend the night in an inn instead of the middle of a forest.
To be fair, it was Jaskier who suggested it, claiming that he refused to be eaten by angry drowners, no matter how many times Geralt tried to explain to him that the probability of finding a drowner in the middle of a very dry forest is extremely low.
If Jaskier knew they were going to run into Yennefer in the inn, he would have risked the drowners.
“I don’t doubt that,” Yennefer smirks. “But seriously, how old are you, bard?”
“No idea. I stopped counting after fifty, I think.”
“You know, you don’t look fifty,” she says.
“Oh, well, my mother had an elf lover before I was born, so there’s a fifty-fifty chance that I’m not gonna age anytime soon. Sorry,” Jaskier smiles again, sweetly – and this time, it’s genuine.
“As if,” Geralt grunts.
“I’m sorry, dear?” Jaskier blinks.
“Come on, Jaskier, it doesn’t work like that. You’re a viscount, that means your father must have been a viscount, too.”
“You don’t know much about nobility, do you, Geralt?” Yennefer snorts.
“Hm,” Geralt grunts. “Still, he’s not a half-elf.”
“Let me guess, you’re a Witcher, therefore you could smell it if I was? I hate to break it to you, dear heart, but you’re going to have your nose checked.”
“You’re not a half-elf, Jaskier,” Geralt repeats. “You’re not immortal, you just… look young.”
“Yeah, right, you got me,” Jaskier shrugs. “I just look good because I moisturize. Happier now?”
“Much,” Geralt nods. “See? You can be honest if you want.”
“Yup,” Jaskier nods. “Honesty personified. Now please excuse me, I need to go and moisturize some more. Internally. With ale.”
*
“I’m actually a mermaid, you know?” Jaskier grins the next time he’s asked, this time by a very confused and very old Valdo Marx.
“A siren, Jaskier. Not a mermaid,” Geralt sighs, praying to Melitele to give him strength. “And you’d know that, of course, if you actually were a siren.”
“Just so you know, the term siren is actually quite offensive to my people.”
“You mean idiots?” Geralt chuckles. “You’re not a siren, Jask.”
“Can you prove that I’m not?”
“Well, last week you tripped and fell into this creek that was like… knee-deep, and you nearly drowned.”
“I was in shock!” Jaskier proclaims dramatically. “But I have a proof that I am, or at least could be a siren.”
“What proof?”
“Well, my lovely voice, of course!”
“Not as lovely as you think it is,” Valdo Marx snorts.
“Come on, Jaskier,” Geralt sighs, ignoring the old troubadour. “You have much better voice that any siren I’ve ever heard.”
“Geralt of Rivia!” Jaskier gasps, clutching his chest. “Was that a compliment?!”
“Fuck,” Geralt mutters. “I didn’t mean…”
“Really though, Jaskier,” Valdo says. “How?”
“That’s a secret I’ll take to the grave, I’m afraid,” Jaskier grins. “Once I manage to reach it.”
“Keep on with the bullshit, Jaskier,” Geralt growls, “and you can reach it tonight.”
“Fifty years traveling with him, and he still thinks he can scare me. Cute, isn’t he?” Jaskier laughs. “Oh, Geralt you could never.”
“Try me.”
*
“All right, I’ll tell you my secret,” Jaskier winks at Ciri, who lifts an eyebrow. “I’ve got this neat… magic ring.”
“Hmmm,” Ciri observes. “Looks like a normal signet ring to me.”
“Well… Yeah, well, it looks like it, all right, but actually–”
“Jaskier, I was born a princess. This is clearly a Pankratz family signet ring.”
“Damn,” Jaskier groans. “Like father like daughter, eh?”
“Sorry,” Ciri shrugs.
*
“I got myself cursed.”
Triss Merigold lifts an eyebrow.
“Somebody cursed you to live forever, is that so?” she asks and her voice is almost dripping with disbelief.
“More like cursed me,” Geralt murmurs.
“Oh, shut up, Witcher, you know you couldn’t live without me,” Jaskier smiles brightly, and Geralt has to bite his cheek to stop himself from smiling back.
“Hm,” he says instead.
“Eloquent as ever,” Jaskier nods.
“Would you like me to...” Triss clears her throat. “You know, try to lift the curse?”
“No!” Geralt yells before he can stop himself.
“See?” Jaskier beams. “You could never live without me!”
*
“A bruxa,” Jaskier repeats to a young man who claims to be his son, but looks older than his supposed father.
“You’re not a bruxa, Jaskier!” Geralt whines.
“Excuse me, and how would you know?”
“Because I’m a fucking Witcher?!”
“Well, you’re clearly a fucking horrible Witcher if you haven’t noticed until now!”
“I think I’d notice if you tried to sneak out of the camp at nights to feed,” Geralt comments, crossing his hands. “You can’t even sneak out to take a piss, Jask.”
“Maybe I do that on purpose!”
“Besides, bruxae are mostly women.”
“Mostly being the important word here.”
“Fuck’s sake, Jaskier. You won’t even eat a piece of meat if it’s not so well-done that it’s almost cremated.”
“Do you know how disgusting the blood is, Geralt?!” Jaskier groans, and then immediately blinks when he realizes what he just said. “I meant…”
“Case closed,” Geralt nods, satisfied.
“Oh, dear,” Jaskier mutters. “I fucking hate you sometimes.”
“Uhm, my lords, if I may,” the young man says.
“Hate to break it to you, kid, but if you’re aging like a normal human, you’re probably not my son,” Jaskier shrugs. “Sorry. I get it why your mum might be confused, though. It was quite a night, with at least four–”
“And that’s enough,” Geralt says, grabbing Jaskier by the collar and pulling him away from the man. “You know, lifting the curse seems like a good idea now.”
“There isn’t really a curse, Geralt,” Jaskier laughs.
Geralt sighs, his lips curling into a tiny smile that Jaskier cannot see.
“Thank fuck.”
*
“You see, we were in a crazy mage’s tower and I saw this bottle and I thought it was slivovitz, so I drank it, but it seems that it actually was some sort of an immortality potion,” Jaskier explains to a lady at the ball, whose grandmother he’d apparently fucked once, when said grandmother was still a young, unmarried woman.
Geralt only blinks, because it’s the first truly plausible explanation for Jaskier’s mysterious immortality.
“Oh, that must be so horrible to watch everyone you love die!” the woman nods enthusiastically. “Perhaps you’d like to tell me about it in private?”
“Of course, my dear…” Jaskier smiles. “Just… wait a second. How old is your mother?”
“Forty-seven, why?”
Jaskier’s lips are moving silently for a few seconds while he counts, and then thy turn into a wide grin.
“No reason, dear,” he says, offering her his arms. “Shall we?”
When Jaskier and the lady flee the ball, Geralt pulls out his flask of White Gull and pours its contents into his empty tankard.
So, a potion…
*
“There is no such thing as an immortality potion, Geralt,” Yennefer shakes her head.
“How can you be so sure?” Geralt asks. “Maybe this mage really did find a way to at least make the human life longer!”
“And why would he do that?” Yennefer scoffs. She has been doing that a lot since she finally ended their relationship for good about twenty years ago. (He later found out that she had left him for none other than Triss Merigold, but Yennefer still doesn’t know that he knows, and he’s having way too much fun with it to break the fact to her. So right now, he is pretending he doesn’t notice that Triss is eavesdropping on their conversation behind the door leading to Yennefer’s bedroom, and that he absolutely believed Yen when she claimed that the loud thud a few minutes ago was caused by a cat.) “We are immortal, Geralt, unless killed. There is no reason for any of us to make a potion that would make a human live forever.”
“Well, perhaps this mage fell in love with a human and wanted them to stay with him!”
Yennefer pauses, inspecting Geralt from head to toe and back again, and then she sighs.
“Oh, Geralt. Really?”
“Really what?” Geralt blinks, genuinely confused.
“Oh,” Yennefer murmurs. “Oh, no. Really?”
“Really what, Yen?”
“You mean you don’t… Oh, dear gods. Really?”
“Yen, I swear that I have no idea what you’re talking about,” Geralt grunts, frowning.
Yennefer rolls her eyes and tries counting to ten to calm herself down. She doesn’t even get to three before Geralt’s eyes go wide.
“Oh,” he whispers. “Fuck.”
“Fuck, indeed, Geralt,” she nods solemnly. “Fuck, indeed.
*
“I found a djinn, he granted me a wish,” Jaskier says when Geralt asks him, about five minutes after his meeting with Yennefer. (He agreed to use a portal to get to the bard as soon as possible. A fucking portal!) The bard is sitting in a tavern and eating his dinner, utterly undisturbed by the sudden appearance of an angrier-than-usual Witcher.
“You never mentioned a djinn,” Geralt growls. “And after your last encounter with one, I sincerely doubt you’d engage with another.”
“You clearly don’t know me at all–”
“Besides, Valdo Marx, as far as I know, had an apoplexy while fucking a young student on his desk, and I don’t think you’d ever let him die like that if you had a choice.”
“You see, that was kind of a my mistake, since I didn’t specify the time and the circumstances of his apoplexy in my wish, so…”
“What was your third wish?”
“Pardon me?”
“Your immortality, Valdo Marx dropping dead, that’s two. What was the third one? And don’t even try to mention the Countess de Stael, since you’d have to dig her up first.”
“That was disgusting, even for you, you know that, Geralt?”
“How are you immortal, Jaskier?!”
“You wouldn’t believe me if I told you.”
“Try me.”
Jaskier puts a piece of bread in his mouth and grins.
“Maybe some other time, Witcher.”
*
“I am a fae,” Jaskier replies a day later.
“You’re not a fucking fae, bard.”
“How can you be so sure?”
“Because you fucking lie, Jaskier. All the time.”
“Fuck. Didn’t think of that.”
*
“You see, there was this artifact–”
Geralt closes his eyes, turning Roach around.
“Let’s consult Yennefer about this.”
“Oh, mother of…” Jaskier whines. “All right, no artifact, there was no artifact! Geralt, I’m telling you, there was no…”
*
“You’re not a succubus.”
“But it would be a perfect explanation, wouldn’t it?”
“You’re not succubus, because if you were, you’d know that a male one is called an incubus.”
“Oh, you and your stupid Witcher terms again.”
“You’re not an incubus, Jaskier, because if you were, I could never let you near Eskel.”
“All right… Explain, please?”
Geralt grunts.
“I’d really rather not.”
*
“A dragon,” Jaskier grins victoriously.
“No,” Geralt says, shaking his head.
“No,” Jaskier agrees with a sigh.
“You know you could just tell me the truth and be done with it, right?”
“Hm… No.”
*
“All right, enough is enough,” Jaskier growls that night in their rented room, tossing his doublet aside. “You’ve asked me three times today, Geralt. Why the sudden interest in my immortality?”
“As you said, enough is enough. You’ve been traveling with me for what, a hundred years?”
“A hundred and four.”
“Yes, and you still look the same as the day I met you in Posada!” Geralt growls. “And it drives me mad!”
“It wasn’t driving you insane for at least fifty years, so why the sudden change of heart?”
“Fuck off, bard. You don’t have to tell me. I don’t care.”
“But you do, Geralt,” Jaskier says, taking a step towards the Witcher. “Why?”
He’s standing in Geralt’s personal space, his chemise half undone, and he’s watching Geralt with those sincere blue eyes, and Geralt can’t fucking think…
“Because I love you, you idiot!” he snaps. “Because I fucking love you and I need to know if I can love you, or you’re gonna just drop dead one day without a warning!”
“Oh,” Jaskier whispers, his lips forming into a huge, happy smile. “Oh, fucking finally.”
“Fucking… what?” Geralt blinks, his arms suddenly full of an enthusiastic bard.
“I love you too, you silly Witcher,” Jaskier laughs. “I’ve loved you for a hundred years! Well, a hundred and four, but who’s counting?”
“You…” Geralt mutters.
“Silly, silly Witcher,” Jaskier repeats, pressing his lips against Geralt’s in a kiss that could be described as chaste, or at least the chastest Jaskier has ever been capable of. “We’re going to Lettenhove in the morning.”
“We are?”
“Oh, yes,” Jaskier whispers. “See, I’ve told you the truth about the source of my immortality once. But I think you need to see it to believe me.”
“Wait, you have? When?” Geralt asks. “Was it the artifact? Just tell me, I promise I won’t make you consult it with–”
“Shut up now,” Jaskier says, kissing Geralt again with way less chastity than before. “And in the meantime, believe me this – you can keep loving me, and I’m not planning on dropping dead anytime soon. Also, I’ve spent the last hundred years imagining fucking you senseless, so if you’re not opposed to the idea, perhaps we could, well…”
The kiss that this idea gets him is as far from chaste as one could possibly get.
And Jaskier definitely isn’t about to complain.
*
“You sure this is a good idea?” Geralt asks as they march towards the Lettenhove castle’s gates. He tugs at his doublet’s collar, way too tight for his liking. He’d much rather walk in there wearing his usual attire, but Jaskier insisted that Geralt must look presentable if he wants to meet his family.
It turns out that it only takes a single I love you to turn the bard into a manipulative bastard. Who would have guessed?
“Why wouldn’t it be?” Jaskier replies, grinning cheerfully. “And stop frowning, you’re gonna scare the servants, love.”
“How long it’s been since your last visit here, Jaskier?” Geralt says, his frown deepening. “Who rules Lettenhove now, hm? Aren’t you only going to be a distant relative, a great-great-uncle risen from the grave?”
“I sure hope not,” Jaskier chuckles, stopping in front of the guards by the gate. “Good afternoon, gentlemen. Viscount Julian, here to see the Viscountess Madeleine.”
“How can you still be a viscount?” Geralt blinks when one of the guards promptly disappears inside.
“We kind of decided to, you know, share the title,” Jaskier shrugs. “Seemed fair. Besides, father, well, the former viscount, insisted that I inherit the title, but he never mentioned anything about Mads not inheriting it, so…”
“How could your father have known who the viscount is going to be in almost a hundred years?”
“He really didn’t,” Jaskier chuckles. “See, it will all start to make sense once you meet her.”
“Yeah, that’s what I’m hoping for.”
*
The guard returns a few minutes later, telling them that the Viscountess will meet them in the garden.
Geralt, knowing a thing or two about nobility, think it’s a little weird, but isn’t about to protest. He only thinks he could have left the fancy clothes at the tavern.
“Oh, shut up, you,” Jaskier chuckles when Geralt voices this thought. “You look gorgeous.”
“I know. You’ve mentioned it a few times. But I didn’t have to look like that, because we’re going to meet the ruler of this land in a fucking garden, and–”
“Julian!”
A woman in a long white dress throws herself at Jaskier, who happily catches her. Geralt’s first instinct is to reach for his sword, only to realize that he (luckily) left it in the tavern – because Jaskier insisted, of course.
“Madeleine,” Jaskier chuckles. “You haven’t aged a day.”
“Oh, yes. Shocking, isn’t it?” she laughs, pulling away from him, and for the first time, Geralt truly looks at her.
The woman is shorter than Jaskier, slim, and her dress is much, much simpler than Geralt would have expected considering the fact that is supposed to be a viscountess. She has dark, long hair and her face is so beautiful that it almost – but only almost – takes the focus off her pointed ears.
“Lady Madeleine,” Jaskier grins, “may I introduce Geralt of Rivia, my Witcher. Geralt, this is Lady Madeleine, the current ruler of Lettenhove and my younger sister.”
“You’re…” Geralt blinks.
“A half-elf, yes,” she nods. “Julian! You haven’t told him?”
“Hardly my fault. I really tried,” Jaskier shrugs. “But he just wouldn’t believe me.”
“So you brought him here to prove it to him, rather than to visit your beloved sister? You are a horrible, horrible sibling, Julian!”
“Your… sister,” Geralt mutters, all his thoughts speeding through his head, colliding and falling down, one over another.
“Yes, we definitely share a mother,” Jaskier confirms. “Most likely a father, too, and trust me, it wasn’t the old viscount. Madeleine got the elvish looks, I only got the non-aging bit. Well, apparently.”
“But…” Geralt blinks. “Your father. The title.”
“Yen was right, dear heart, you really don’t know shit about nobility,” Jaskier snorts. “But I admit that even though our dear departed noble father knew that Mads wasn’t his daughter, obviously, it never occurred to him that I might not be his true son.”
“But you don’t age!”
“In his defense, that only became clear after his unfortunate passing.”
“And you aren’t going to start to age anytime soon,” Geralt mutters. “You really aren’t.”
“Told you so, didn’t I?” Jaskier winks, letting go of his sister and wrapping his arms around his lover instead.
“I… I…” Geralt stammers. “Fuck.”
“Maybe later, love,” Jaskier smiles. “Madeleine, my dear, wouldn’t you say that my return calls for a feast?”
“Absolutely. In fact, I have started the preparations the second my spies informed me that you have crossed the border.”
“Oh, so we have spies now?”
“It’s really only a net of nosy old ladies, but it works wonders,” Madeleine laughs. “I must admit, though, that I was only planning a feast to celebrate you coming home, but now I see we have a much better reason to party. Tell me, brother, did you finally get your stupid Witcher?”
Jaskier smiles brightly, turning his head to Geralt.
“Yes. I finally got my stupid Witcher.”
“Party,” the Witcher in question growls. “Is that why you made me dress like a pompous prick?”
“No, that was because while I find your usual self extremely attractive, you still look much better when your hair is properly combed and you’re not covered in monster blood.”
“Hm,” Geralt hums, but wraps his arm around the bard to hold him close.
“Oh, yes, about monsters,” Madeleine says with the most innocent expression Geralt has seen since Ciri broke Vesemir’s favorite vase at Kaer Morhen. “You see, we have a tiny problem with a cockatrice…”
“Right,” Geralt nods. “I’ll go grab my armor from the tavern.”
“That won’t be necessary. I have already arranged for your things to be brought to the castle. And your horse,” she adds before Geralt can even open his mouth. “You can leave for your quest as soon as the servants get here.”
“So much for you not being covered in monster blood,” Jaskier sighs.
“Hm,” Geralt grins. “Lady Madeleine, I suppose you happen to have a bathtub somewhere in the castle?”
“Of course. In fact, there is a private bathroom right next to Julian’s bedroom.”
“Geralt of Rivia,” Jaskier purrs. “You know me so well.”
“Yes, and I expect to get to know you even better. In another hundred years or so.”
Jaskier laughs, pulls Geralt closer to him and kisses him.
“Another thousand years, I’d say.”
*
“What… the… fuck?!” Geralt croaks, staring at the smouldering remains of the cockatrice that would have surely killed him if Jaskier… If Jaskier…
The bard looks at his hands, then at the cockatrice, and then back at his hands again.
“Geralt? I have a feeling that I’m not really… A half-elf.”
“No shit.”
“I think I might be… Uhm…”
“Oh, shit,” Geralt whispers.
“I suppose, uhm, you know…” Jaskier stammers, wiping his palms on his trousers like he could wipe away the feeling of literal flames shooting out of them mere moments ago.
“Yeah. We’re gonna have to consult this with Yen.”
“Splendid,” Jaskier sighs. “Can it at least wait after the feast?”
“After more than a hundred years of you not even knowing, I think one feast will be fine.”
“Thank the gods. Madeleine would kill me if I tried to leave now,” Jaskier chuckles. “Let’s go, then. We need to get the fried monster remains out of your hair.”
“You’re… I was fucking right! You’re not a half-elf!”
“Yeah, you’re a great Witcher,” Jaskier nods, grabbing Geralt’s arm and dragging him away from the monster. “Didn’t notice I was secretly a fucking mage, but otherwise a great Witcher.”
“Explains a lot, though.”
“Does it now?”
“Yeah. I always had a thing for mages, you know.”
“Oh, Geralt. You’re such a fucking idiot,” Jaskier chuckles.
“Made you laugh,” Geralt shrugs, smiling.
Jaskier shakes his head.
“I’m so, so gonna drown you in that bathtub.”
“My love,” Geralt grins, “you’re more than welcome to try.”

MC with Bipolar Disorder
A request from an associate on discord! Please be aware, I myself do not have any forms of Bipolar. I have done some research on the disorder and have spoken to the requester about their personal experiences. I do mean well ✨✨✨
This is a long read so it goes under a cut!
CONTENT WARNING FOR DEEPLY DEPPRESSED BEHAVIOR!!! Also spoilers of chapter 16 ahead!
~
Lucifer
He suspects you are just a very snappy individual. You can be fine one moment, and absolutely livid the next for little to no reason. There have been a few times where he’s had to check your attitude for you, and usually afterwards he finds you in your room, in a depressed episode.
He doesn’t think he was that harsh with you but regardless wants to ensure you that he isn’t truly angry with you. You rarely listen to what he has to say after the fact, and just stay locked up in your room silently, making him worry more. Some days pass and you end up leaving your room finally, but not much has changed in your depressive state.
You’re still in a deep depression, a very startling trait that Lucifer finds disturbing. He watches you when you lament quietly, and seem like a lifeless version of the angry you just days ago. He suggests to take you out on the town- a sort of apology in his own way. You did always like traveling about, but now you seemed deeply uninterested. His worry tenfold.
Once your episodes are over, he tries his best to assure you that you are welcomed in the HoL. His snappy behavior dies down a bit when you get angrier and have rapid mood swings. He knows by now that it’s just the start of those mania episodes, and secretly, it scares him that you may do something that you’ll regret.
Mammon
He’s used to people getting pissed off with him, but he’s not used to what comes after it. You’re not really depressed, but you are struggling to get to sleep. In fact, over the past few days, he’d say you haven’t slept at all. It’s starting to stress him out by this point. It was his only duty to look after you, and he feels like a failure for not being able to do that right.
You’re still very snappy with everyone, he suspects it’s your lack of sleep, but you insist that you’re full of energy. He’s not buying it, not by that dead look in your eyes. He can tell you’re starting to shift moods again, by that forlorn look when you stare off into the distance. He knows the quiet is coming AFTER the storm.
Once enjoyable activities like going to Majolish or even playing poker with him are the last things you want to do. You still aren’t getting much sleep and Mammon is pulling his hair out over it all. Has he just broken you?
Even the thought of hurting Mammon over your own depressive episodes makes your depression spiral out of control. He’s caught you hurting YOURSELF over these thoughts and nearly had a panic attack trying to explain to you NOT to do that. He loves and cares about you too much to allow you to do something so drastic. He’s trying, and he wants you to know that. He’ll do whatever it takes you fight your demons for you.
Leviathan
He didn’t expect you to get so excited when he talked about going to a concert for Sucre Frenzy. Sure, he got you a spare ticket because he was lucky about the mail mans little fluke, but still. When the two of you arrived, you were all over the place. You were partying with other demons, and Leviathan was worried one of them might attack and eat your soul if you weren’t careful. He caught you trying to wander off with a demon and put a stop to it promptly.
The result was you lashing out at him, embarrassing him in front of others. After you finally managed to calm down enough, the two of you headed home. You weren’t speaking to him, and could already tell that Leviathan was shutting himself down emotionally. Over the next few days, he’s quiet. Not texting you, not looking your way, not even sitting near you at lunch.
It’s when he texts you a short and simple explanation on why he stopped you from going off with that demon did you break. You never felt so much emotion in such a short explanation, and the apology only made it worse. Leviathan was only trying to help keep you safe, and you snapped at him.
Your depressive state takes full swing, and you don’t speak, you barely eat, or register people around you. You hide in the planetarium since no one ever really goes there except Belphie occasionally. Anything is better than staying in your room, where it’s too close to everyone else. Leviathan eventually finds you there, and despite his fears of upsetting you further, he sits near, and puts his arms around you. He didn’t know his Henry struggled with such severe problems, but the Lord of Shadows will never give up on his friend.
Satan
You know what’s a bad mix? Wrath with Bipolar MC. The two of you are less than friendly at first. It’s small things like eye rolling and huffs that keep you two at each others throats. For a while it seems like everyone suspects a fight to break out between you two. Satan can only keep up his act for so long.
You overhear the brothers talking about Satan and how surprised they are he’s been keeping himself relatively cool so far. You envy that. Deeply. So much so that it nearly puts Leviathan to shame over it. You wish you had better control over your emotions, Satan apparently makes it look SO easy.
With all these feelings swirling around inside of you, you can’t help but feel like the strongest of them is your depression. You never let any of them in on it, but it’s obvious in the way you act. It startles everyone when Satan keeps up that petty temperamental attitude with you, and, expecting you to fire back with the same, you just sigh sadly and go back to your tasks, with little energy left. A win in the angry war for Satan, but at what costs?
He’s an attentive person. He can tell with how you act that you aren’t getting much sleep. Your grades are slipping, and you’re hardly in the moment with anything going on around you. He does a bit of research and thankfully has his answer on what the problem is. He had no idea he was fueling your anger management issues with his own. From that point forward, he works extra hard to keep his own problems in control, so to not burden you further.
Asmodeus
Being an empath, he has managed to steer away from your anger. But it only takes but so long before he falls victim to your mood swings. Unfortunately, this time, you were angry at him simple because he didn’t think of getting you a bottle of your favorite perfume, even though he asked you if you wanted anything.
He was more than willing to try and accommodate you by giving you his own, but the damage had been done. You ended up slapping the bottle out of his hand, startling him, and it sent him running off to his room in tears. Needless to say, afterwards you felt shitty for your behavior.
It was just a bottle of perfume. Why did you blow up over it? And poor Asmo, he always seemed so nice and friendly whenever he saw you. A bit too close for your comfort zone, but you figured the Avatar of Lust was a very physical person. To see him in such a state of sadness made your own sadness consume you.
You both stayed in your own rooms for a long time. You much more than him. In fact, he was worried, even though he was scared of you, that you weren’t taking care of yourself. When he finally worked up the courage to peer into your room, he shrieked. He rushed to get you help, fearing the worse. When you woke up in the hospital bed, Asmodeus was right there by your side. He was in tears still, but all he could do was put his hand over yours, glad that you were still with him.
Beelzebub
The first time you yell at Beelzebub, it’s of course, over food. He had eaten something that you bought to eat for a snack later that very day. You know Beel never means to do things like that. It sort of... comes with being the Avatar of Gluttony. It’s in his nature to consume endlessly, and you’ve known this from the start with his constant complaints of being hungry. This time, however, you snapped.
You really hurt his feelings with the way you spoke to him. Being the emotionally mature brother, he sat there and took the abuse. Maybe to punish himself for doing something so thoughtless. You were really looking forward to that snack, after all.
It unfortunately got to be too much, and Beel had to excuse himself. He was on the brink of tears, and he hardly ever cries. His brothers found him very quickly, wrapped up in his emotions. They were huddling around, comforting him. When you came back and saw how they were babying Beel and not even trying to comfort you, you felt betrayed. You were the victim in all this, not Beel.
But Beel is their brother, and you’re just a human. A human with a nasty case of Bipolar Disorder. Of course they didn’t care about you- they never did. They were demons after all, demon brothers at that. They stuck together, and you were the odd one out. Instead of telling them how you felt, it seemed futile. How could you explain away going off on one of the babies of the family like that.? You couldn’t. So you crept off to your room, and were silent ever since.
Belphegor
The other brother who won’t take shit from you. You two go at it like cats and dogs. The only difference is Belphie has hand the upper hand once before. He never resorts to getting that angry with you ever again though, and instead will leave when you start showing that angry side of you again.
To have that much self control to just walk away instead of attacking you again? You felt ashamed. How come you didn’t have the restraint to be able to combat these issues? Belphie attacked and murdered you at least twice now, and he regrets doing that. He’s actively taking steps to avoid it, and yet you haven’t changed at all.
You aren’t sure if you’re more angry about that or jealous. You hope it’s not the jealousy. It’s such a stupid thing to be angry about, especially considering it’s something you can’t help anyways. Even with the medication.
When you hide in your room and struggle with your sleeping, your thoughts are mostly occupied with the last time Belphie and you argued. Right before he killed you, when you managed to piss him off enough. You spend way too much time thinking about it, and you’re tempted to try and corner him in the attic to make him lash out again. It’s when He opens your door, after not seeing you for nearly a week, does he come crawling back to your side of the bed. He curls up next to you silently, staring at you. You can tell what he’s thinking; that he’s not going to hurt you. You’re sort of glad that he’s changed, after all. At least you have a pillar of support in your life.

Jaydick — Maybe the thing that reminds Jason the best why he’ll never, ever be able to let go of his crush on the one and only Dick Grayson is the smile and the look Dick gives him when he does something like this, Dick’s hand outstretched, asking if he can have this dance like they’re not in some random diner on Elmwood St. at 4 am in the morning
This is a lovely prompt, and I hope I did it justice.
Here’s how Jason knows that he will never, ever be over Dick Grayson:
Dick looks down at him, and Jason can do nothing but glare back. It’s been a shit couple of days, okay, and he doesn’t need Dick fucking Grayson to condescend to him—Dick reaches out his hand. “C’mon, Hood. Let’s get you fixed up.” Jason doesn’t know what the other is playing at, but… Dick’s eyes are kind. He takes the hand. Standing hurts, and Jason makes some stupid comment, he doesn’t remember what. Dick laughs, and gradually, Jason relaxes. It’s not trust, nothing even close to that; it is, however, a beginning.
Dick kisses him, and Jason’s entire world re-arranges itself around the touch of their lips. He didn’t think—He never knew—Dick’s lips are soft, his hands cradling Jason’s face. Jason doesn’t know what he did to deserve this tenderness; he never wants to be without it again.
They’re in a diner. They’re in a diner past midnight, in the seedier part of town, and Dick is looking at Jason. “May I have this dance?” Jason laughs and grumbles, and then he jokes, but he still says yes, and they sway together as if this wasn’t new, as if neither of them fears it could shatter any second. Dick smiles, and Elmwood St. has never looked brighter.
Dick hates it when Jason leaves the window open at night. Jason doesn’t know if it’s a paranoia thing or an I-just-want-some-quiet thing, and Dick never tells him, just gripes about it at breakfast. “Seriously, you’re like a big cat or something,” the older man grumbles, “and if we all catch a cold, it’ll be your fault. Seriously, why…” He keeps rambling. Jason just stares at him until Dick starts to grin, and then they’re laughing at 8am in their kitchen because they can.
“When we get married, we should just not invite Bruce,” Dick says, and Jason forgets to breathe. His boyfriend notices, of course. “Jason?” Jason has to tell him: “You said ‘when,’ not ‘if.’” That gets him a smile (radiant, beautiful, everything) and a “Duh,” and Jason has never looked forward to the future more.
And this is how Dick knows:
Jason takes a bullet for him, and Dick doesn’t understand, not yet. The younger man is on the ground, bleeding, and his eyes are very blue when he tells Dick: “I don’t need your help.” Who is this man that angrily threatens Dick and his family one day and protects him with his life the next? Who is fiercely independent and yet lets Dick pull him up and stitch his wounds? Who jokes and grumbles and yet has the saddest eyes? Dick doesn’t understand, but oh, how he wants to.
“You shouldn’t let Bruce treat you like that,” Jason grumbles. Dick expects yet another argument about Bruce’s orders today, and he sighs. It’s been a long day, an even longer night, and he’s in no mood for it tonight. However, Jason continues: “You’ve been up for far too long, and I bet you haven’t eaten, have you? I made some soup, but seriously, Dick, this is no way to live.“ Dick can’t help himself—he has to reach out, has to cradle Jason’s face in his hands as he kisses him, kisses him, kisses him. Jason trembles under his hands and Dick feels like crying.
Dick laughs as he’s twirled around. It was just an impulse—‘Lady in Red’ had been playing, and that was too funny to resist—but he’s never regretted one less, not when Jason looks at him like Dick’s the only thing in his world. It’s heady. Dick never wants to stop dancing again.
No one is perfect. Dick knows that; knows that he is too hard on himself, and yet… with his previous partners, there was always this moment, the one where they looked at him and realized that no—Dick Grayson isn’t perfect. He gets annoyed by small things; he has a temper; he thinks he’s right even when he’s not. And then they left Dick. Jason, though? He grins at Dick’s pettiness, yells right back in his face, never stops arguing with him. Dick is thirty-two years old and has never felt so relaxed in his life. He’s willing to forgive some open windows for that.
Jason whispers, “I love you,” in the grocery store in the middle of the day, as if he can’t bear not saying it, and Dick knows right then that he will never let Jason go.

Jschlatt's Return
= Future developments in the Dream SMP plot (theories)
How does resurrection work?
• According to Philza and Eret to revive someone his ghost must be killed in the same way he lost his last canon life (that would also explain why Glatt and Ghostbur came back online recently).
• We also know they may need a totem and the knowledge of the resurrection book, which is now kept somewhere out there in the server, considering Dream said he didn't have it physically in prison with him. (He also said he destroyed it, but do we trust him? Absolutely not)
• We didn't see Tommy's revival from Dream's point of view, so it could be that Phantommy actually appeared and Dream easily killed him on the same spot of Tommy (maybe using the clock or his mask as a totem idk), but we still don't know what kind of information the book provides and how resurrection really works.
What is going to happen?
1. Quackity and Sam
• Quackity's last stream made pretty clear Big Q's intention of taking the book from Dream using all the means possible.
• However, despite the torture, Dream won't give any information. First of all he doesn't like Jschlatt, because he finds him annoying and boring (not like Wilbur) and second, of course, he knows the book's knowledge is the only thing that prevents other people from killing him. And then again, why should he give away the same power that made him a god? Quackity won't kill him without the book, and he is used to pain. Moreover he'll have some company at least.
• Quackity won't give up. He will keep visiting Dream everyday and will eventually start to like making him suffer.
• Sam instead will feel more and more guilty for what he made possible and for the person he became. He has changed since Tommy's death. He had promise to protect him and then he failed him. And then everything went wrong. He likes to believe that Dream deserves this for what he did to Tommy, but he is not sure that's the right way. Sometimes he even feels sorry for him, especially after Quackity's visits. After all Dream is just a broken person. Isn't he?
2. Tommy and the boys
• Meanwhile Tommy goes to Puffy's therapy sessions and opens up about his traumas and fears. It's hard, but it really helps having someone to talk to. Especially now.
• Since he returned to the server he has felt so lonely.
• Everyone treats him differently. Some people see him as miracle and keep asking inappropriate questions. Some others pretend nothing happened. For few of them the server just moved on; for others he is still dead.
• Even so he can't focus too much on himself right now. Stopping Dream is much more important. If Wilbur comes back... he doesn't even want to think about what he is capable of.
• They need to kill Dream, but Tommy is still too scared to come back to prison or to even touch a sword. Every time he suffers a damage he can't breathe: it's like it's happening all over again.
• He can't stay at his house anymore, on the ashes of L'Manburg, nor at his hotel, which is in Jack's hands, and he doesn't want to be alone (it reminds him of exile).
• He'll pass the time at Ranboo and Tubbo's, meeting Michael and working out a plan to kill Dream.
• In Tommy's stream Tubbo showed him his investigation report, pointing out that both Foolish and Ranboo were online when someone damaged the prison (before Tommy's dead).
• Tubbo obviously blames Foolish, nonetheless Tommy understands that something in Ranboo is corrupted.
• He tries to warn Tubbo, who underestimates his friend's words, thinking he might just be jealous of their relationship. They fight. It's a huge argument.
• "It's like you don't want me to be happy" Tubbo screams, shaking his head.
• "I don't want you to be happy without me" as soon as these words leave Tommy's mouth he immediately regrets it.
• Tubbo stays silent for a while. He seems disappointed: "You've changed".
• Tommy tighten a fist. "That's what death does to people, Tubbo, it changes them".
3. Kinoko Kingdom
• At the end Tommy will leave Snowchester and will move into Kinoko Kingdom (he liked the sign of the "free stuff", so why not?). Tommy there is welcome.
• He explains the Wilbur situation to the others, but then something bad happens.
• Hanging out with Sapnap, they talk about Ranboo and Dream's friendship and about how he acted when he received the ":)" message.
• It turns out Ranboo is guilty for the explosions in the prison that kept Sam busy during Tommy's visit to Dream.
• Tommy shows Tubbo the evidences.
4. Platonic Divorce
• After that, the platonic husbands will go through a "divorce arc".
• "How could you?" Tubbo can't help crying and screaming. "I trusted you".
• Ranboo wishes he could do something. But he is scared. He doesn't remember any of that. Did he really help Dream? Why? He doesn't...
• "I kicked out Tommy, my best friend, when he most needed me because of you! I think you should leave".
• Tubbo goes back to Tommy, apologizing. "You were right". And as much as he hates Ranboo, Tommy is broken-hearted seeing his best friend that hurt.
• However he can't help smiling when Tubbo says: "Guess it's just you and me against Dream like it has always been". It's selfish, but he really missed his best friend.
5. Connor's betrayal
• Sam talks with Connor about his doubts related to the all 'torture thing'.
• Connor tries to comfort him and decides to visit Dream with Quackity.
• Dream is relentless: "That villain arc you sewed for yourself is nice. But I won't tell you anything. And the book doesn't exist anymore, now. You can control every book in the server. It will not bring it back" saying these words Dream keeps his eyes on Connor. "The only way to find it should be... be able to travel in time"
• Connor freezes.
6. Karl's arrest
• Karl finds the resurrection book during one of his travels.
• He immediately plans to give it to Tommy, but when he comes back, someone is waiting for him in the library.
• "Well, look what the cat dragged in" Quackity stays still, his arms crossed, next to Connor and Sam. They all wear armours. "So it is true. That's a huge secret you have, Karl"
• The library behind them is destroyed. Books lie on floor ripped. They were looking for it.
• Karl puts the book of Necromancy back, his voice shaking as he realises Sapnap and George aren't there. "What are you doing here?" He asks, making eye contact with Connor, who quickly looks away, ashamed.
• "I'm sorry, Karl" he whispers "But Jschlatt is my friend"
• Quackity walks slowly towards him. "Give me the book, Karl". He has a creepy smile on his face. Is that even the same Quackity? This one looks different.
• "Quackity, you don't have to-"
• "Don't tell what I have to do. If you refuse, I might have to declare you under arrest"
• Karl holds the book tighter. If he gave him the book... no, he can't do that. For Tommy's sake, and for the rest of the server. If the book has the power to revive Wilbur... it must be destroyed. He grabs his sword, ready to fight.
• Quackity looks disappointed "You didn't give me another choice, man" he says, before killing him and taking the book from his inventory.
7. Dream and Karl
• Karl is later taken to the prison and put in Dream's cell.
• "Well, green boy, seems like you service is no longer required. However, I want to keep having fun with you. I'll revive Jschlatt, and then I'll execute you publicly. Enjoy your last hours: I got you company" Quackity leaves with a victory smile on his face.
• Dream looks horrible. He is covered in blood, his body painted by new scars. Karl has never seen him like this. His hearts are low and he hasn't eaten in days.
• Dream is the first one who speaks: "You found it".
• Karl freezes. What does that mean? "I though I had hidden it too well" he keeps saying, washing his blood away. "Maybe I should have really destroyed it"
• How cool would it be if Dream actually hid the book in the timeline? He couldn't burn it. Otherwise if he died no one would have revived him. So he just hid it where only Karl could find it.
• So yes, Dream knows Karl's power because he has a similar one. And yes, the prison was actually built for Karl (that's the only theory I care about).
• "We are not that different, Karl. Forgetting the people you love.. I know what it feels. I can help you controlling it. Have you reached the In between yet?"
• What if Dream is the one leaving Karl books and suggestions about his travels?
• They spend some time together and they surprisingly get along well. It's like someone finally understands.
8. Sapnap's lore
• Sapnap finds out Karl has been arrested, but he doesn't know why. He is angry.
• He faces Quackity who giggles. "Apparently there are a lot of things we don't know about Karl" but he doesn't tell him Karl's secret.
• Quackity and Sapnap break up (I won't ever be over Quackity's stream with El Rapid)
• Sapnap joins the children group. They are breaking into prison, right? He needs to save Karl.
9. Escape from Pandora's Vault
• Tommy, Tubbo, Ghostbur and Sapnap manage to break into Pandora's Vault when Sam and Quackity aren't online.
• When they arrive in Dream's cell, he is talking with Karl.
• Sapnap, horrified, takes Karl away from him. He doesn't trust Dream anymore, not after what he did to Tommy. He is sure it's his fault if Karl is here now.
• Dream can't help smiling when he sees the little party there. Especially when he sees his best friend Tommy. He tries to get closer.
• "I'm gonna kill you man. What the hell-" Sapnap punches Dream away. The anger and the resentment spread all over his body. They didn't deserve so much pain. Maybe the server will be a peaceful place without him. "You killed Tommy and then you gave Quackity the book- you"
• Karl stops him, defending Dream. "Sapnap, please. He didn't give them the book. I was the one who did".
• Everyone hold their breathe. What? Why? Wasn't it burned? How did you...
• "We need to get him out"
• Tommy grifts his teeth: "No way he is coming with us". He tries to grab his sword trembling and gagging, but it's too much. He can't... that place...
• Dream steps away. "Oh, you came to kill me" he whispers. "Do it. I'll be dead by tomorrow anyway"
• "You can't die yet!" Karl screams.
• "C'mon, Karl-"
• Dream smiles. "Don't forget who you are, Karl. And don't stray from the path. The SMP needs you more than you know" (= Dream is the one who leaves Karl notes about time travelling in the In Between :])
• "We don't have much time, guys"
• "Yeah, Tommy you don't have much time. Are you going to kill me? Or are you too afraid?" Dream starts teasing Tommy. "I bet you can't do it, right? You're too weak. And down deep you know you love me. We are best friends after all, aren't we?"
• Tommy doesn't react. He is as pale as a ghost, his eyes wide open.
• Tubbo steps in. He can't look at Tommy like this. He hates Dream so much. "Stay away from him". Looking back at his life, Dream has always been responsible for the bad things happened to him. The discs, L'Manburg, Tommy's exile, his death...
• Dream raises his eyebrows. "Tubbo, how's Ranboo?"
• It happens in a moment. Tubbo just loses control and kills Dream. Don't worry Dream's stans he'll come back one day. Bigger plans for that greenboy.
10. Resurrection
• They all run away.
• That same night Jschlatt is publicly revived. "¿Por dónde empezamos?"
• Quackity, Sam and Connor stay behind him.
• "Tonight our country has faced a loss. Four intruders entered the Pandora's Vault, killed Dream and helped the prisoner Karl Jacobs escape. Sapnap, Tubbo, Tommy and Ghostbur are now officially wanted. Dead or alive."
End of the season? Maybe?
How does the server react?
• Tommy, Tubbo, Sapnap, Ghostbur and Karl are criminals. They become nomads for a while. Samnook gives them an hand.
• Tommy keeps thinking about what Tubbo did. They really didn't talk about it after the break-out. Tubbo just pretends nothing happened.
• Karl and Sapnap aren't talking neither. And when they do they fight.
• The only happy one seems to be Ghostbur, who is excited to be on a vacation with the boys.
• Dream's ghost (Specdream? Nightmare?) appears to Ranboo, who is alone in a self-exile because he doesn't want to hurt anyone. Dream's ghost would be much more like Clay, so he won't be that dangerous like c/Dream (cfr. Ghostbur and Wilbur). But still it would be insane to see those two hanging out.
• Jschlatt and Quackity open their Casino, helped by Jack, who sells the hotel.
• After Dream's death and the destruction of Kinoko Kingdom, George takes Quackity's side. He is sure Sapnap killed Dream and he doesn't know how to feel about it...
• Philza, Techno, Eret and Niki, wanting Wilbur's return, will do the same (they need Ghostbur btw). Techno in particular will hunt the fugitives.
• Puffy and Fundy, contrary to them, will try to find Ranboo and the others in order to stop Jschlatt and Quackity.
• Wilbur and Dream meanwhile are having so much fun in the afterlife.

random juliet moments.
Tumblr media
(a/n: this will probably be updated regularly as i think of more things to add!! i tried to organise these chronologically to the best of my ability but there may be some inconsistencies, so apologies in advance!!🤍)
Tumblr media
started crying when she saw yunho cry at their first fansign
when hongjoong forgot to say “dul, set” and said “8 makes 1 team” alone, san and juliet coincidentally said “1 makes 1 team” to clown him and they looked at each other like 👁👄👁
when san backwashed into his bottle of cola and hongjoong unknowingly drank from it which made her go 👁👄👁 and she made san pinky-promise that he wouldn’t do that to her
when felix, chan and somi hugged her when ateez got their first win on m countdown
when she wrote another one of their iconic instagram live “please leave” signs in her pretty cursive handwriting
she really said “𝓅𝓁𝑒𝒶𝓈𝑒 𝓁𝑒𝒶𝓋𝑒 ❤️” 😭😭😭
when that one australian interviewer asked “if you don’t have any sexiness or charisma like me, what do you do then?” and she half-jokingly went “yeah, that’d be tragic”
cried at their concert in sydney and couldn’t sing for the remainder of the song they were performing because she was crying so much
said “sorry, this is his mission, i’m just here for moral support” when the employees at the pharmacy heard her speak fluent english and asked her to translate for mingi during ateez treasure film
(disclaimer: i’m pretty sure mingi mentioned in a v-live that the producers (?) of ateez treasure film told him to exaggerate the mission for entertainment purposes. so this is in no way trying to make fun of anyone’s english, and is intended to be light-hearted. as someone whose mother tongue isn’t english, and is currently learning a fourth language, i can say with full confidence that learning other languages is really, really hard and i’m so proud of the boys for their english!! in conclusion, mingi english king and mingi bestest boy!! 🥺)
climbed the sydney harbour bridge with seonghwa and mingi for the former’s mission
when they all went to juliet’s house in sydney to have dinner with her family during ateez treasure film; she also saw her cat in person for the first time in years and teared up because it had grown a lot
also cried during the confessional activity on the beach while filming ateez treasure film and clung to seonghwa and yunho for the rest of the activity
reacted to the ateez meme song with hongjoong
“ateez meh-meh song?” pls he’s so cute
*dying in the background* “MEME song” 😭
laughed for 5 minutes straight after seeing yunho in his thor costume
showed off a hydro flask that she customised during a v-live before going “sksksksksksksksk”; this moment went viral on stan twitter
eating fairy bread and toast with vegemite during a v-live
making the boys and their staff try vegemite
san: “ewwwww!”
“yAH! YOU’RE NOT SUPPOSED TO EAT A SPOONFUL! THAT’S NOT HOW YOU EAT VEGEMITE!”
almost said “fuck” once during a v-live with wooyoung and he immediately slapped a hand over her mouth
“everyone, i apologise on her behal—JULIET WAS THAT YOUR TONGUE DID YOU JUST LICK MY HAND”
after joking about choosing a leader for the ‘99 line on idol radio, the djs asked juliet what leader she was, and she teasingly replied that she was the leader of k-pop’s “aussie line”; felix later brought this up in a v-live with chan to clown her
when it was time to shoot her solo scenes for the music video for answer no one could find her and everyone panicked until they found her curled up in a corner sleeping
was close to snapping during a group v-live because of the hate comments and didn’t bother masking her irritation towards the end; jongho had to pat her head to subtly calm her; this was the first time atiny’s ever saw her angry on camera and realised how scary she could be
when a few atiny’s brought juliet flowers during a fansign which made her incredibly happy for the rest of the event, so now atiny’s bring her flowers all the time
was so focused on eating during a v-live that she was completely oblivious to some of the boys quietly watching her eat adoringly
when an atiny told her that they hadn’t eaten yet at a fansign and she asked them to pinky-promise that they would eat something after the event
almost lost her shit with san when seonghwa rapped on weekly idol
covering “someone you loved” on weekly idol which went viral
almost died laughing when they sang “wonderland” in spanish on hello82
fangirled over basically every artist during mama 2019; clips of her just having the time of her life went viral and many asked about “the girl in the boy group who was jamming out”
when san almost gave her a heart attack by spinning the gold play button; she was still very impressed
rounded up all 8 of her members to sing “thank you” to them during “thank u” at their seoul concert and make them all emotional
during the same concert, she accidentally whacked herself over the head with her mic when waving to fans and went “ ᵃ ʰ ”
she’s babie :(
randomly asked “toes for fingers or fingers for toes” during a v-live and the other members looked at her like 👁👄👁 for a good minute
got very passionate about having fingers for toes being better than having toes for fingers
“how will you even find shoes that are big enough?” “custom shoes, duh🙄”
almost died laughing during san and mingi’s round in the “scream in silence” game during their v-live
nearly lost her cool from playing the “scream in silence” game with yeosang
“yOU I D I O T”
made friendship bracelets for herself, the boys, and some of their staff members on an episode of juliet’s archive; they can all be seen wearing the bracelets frequently
when she couldn’t attach the wristband to her lightiny and asked seonghwa for help, but he couldn’t do it either so they looked at each other in exasperation for a few seconds before deciding to give up together
wore her huge platform boots in a v-live so she could be taller than hongjoong, much to his dismay
when she tried to show her boots off by lifting up her leg, she forgot she was wearing a dress; seonghwa immediately panicked and moved in front of her to shield her from the camera, not knowing she was wearing shorts underneath the dress
watching seonghwa’s birthday v-live in the corner with san
when their staff brought out a “cake” that was built from packets of timtams for her birthday v-live and it made her so happy she almost cried
reacted to hongjoong’s cover of “black or white” during a solo v-live and teared up
when an atiny asked her to help with their maths homework during a v-live and she said “uh...i’m probably the last person you’d want to ask...”
cried during an inception music show performance because she got so into the performance; it scared atiny’s until she went on v-live explaining what happened
helping yunho expose san on weekly idol
when she imitated seonghwa’s “num-num” and did the “ottoke” song on weekly idol and made everyone on and off set soft for her
when her and wooyoung both lost it when yeosang sucked on a piece of radish on weekly idol during a game
when she said “i have the only braincell in ateez” and was almost immediately clowned by atiny’s who made compilations of moments when she acted questionably
“jeez, you guys didn’t have to come for me like that”
said “wow, geography king” when yunho said “thank you, scandinavia” for his “thanxx” acoustic poem during idol live tv
during a game on idol live tv, she caught wooyoung and yeosang copying the answer to the number of days since ateez’s debut from atiny’s live comments and subsequently changed her answer, unbeknownst to them
when even san didn’t want her to eat the “detergent hwachae” he, hongjoong, yeosang and mingi made on studiok
she ate it anyways and it was instant regret
“we’re not friends anymore >:(” — to jongho on ateez fever road after hongjoong found the real key which was attached to jongho’s bag all along
was so scared when the masked man appeared during ateez fever road that she hid behind hongjoong and they freaked out together
but started laughing when the masked man “kidnapped” wooyoung
“if we let you have him you won’t come back for us, right?” “yAH! BAEK MINYOUNG!”
then did the “7 makes 1 team” chant with the others, excluding jongho and wooyoung after the former suggested “saving” wooyoung
was slouching in a chair in the background of an ateez log but immediately got up and sat upright once the cameraman came over to film her while pretending nothing happened
when one atiny showed their cat during a video call with her and she went “CAT :D”
when she went on and on about her coffee preferences and opinions during a solo vlive without realising, and wooyoung had to call her for her to realise that she had been ranting about coffee for five minutes straight 💀
when she was about to fight hongjoong for slandering mint chocolate chip ice cream
being an iconic legend when she was on the kpop daebak podcast with eric nam (and also fangirled over him)
dancing to what type of x by jessi with san and yunho during their kcontact 3 interview
“jessi-sunbaenim i love you!!”

Owl House Fanfiction: I love The Found Family Trope!
Tumblr media
Posted on Ao3 here: https://archiveofourown.org/works/29417493
Eda had gotten used to a lot of different ways of waking up after her getting her curse.
The first few times it happened, she'd unfortunately routinely woken up to find herself naked. (Titan, was she grateful when she'd finally found a spell that made her clothes change with her and didn't have to keep dumpster diving or "borrowing" clothes)
Once that was taken care of, her post transformation wake ups were slightly more comfortable, if predictable. She'd come too laying on the ground, her body's usual aches, pains, and stiffness seemingly doubled to the point where she could barely move. If she was in someone's house she'd likely be surrounded by overturned furniture and fixtures all covered in claw and bite marks. If she was lucky any people that might've been there would've already run and hid. If she wasn't….well, she knew a good amount of healing magic and potions.  No matter how much damage she might have caused, most people wouldn't turn down having their injuries taken care of.
And after that, things changed. Even if the person she was living with didn't kick her out, she could still see how they acted differently. They avoided eye contact with her, didn't stay in the same room with her for longer than two seconds, and she couldn't help but notice how they always seemed to lock their doors at night, nevermind whether she'd taken her elixir or not. Needless to say, when that happened she was gone before a week even passed. Someone being afraid of her or thinking she was a freak she could handle. But she preferred that to them tiptoeing around it and pretending to be okay with her when they were secretly scared.
Considering all of that, waking up safely in her nest with a bottle of elixir in her mouth was a new experience.
She wasn't that shocked once she'd gotten the whole story. She'd never explained what her elixir did to King, and Luz thinking it was some special magic boosting potion sounded just like her. But what really surprised her were their reactions.
After making sure Hooty was put back up and okay, they'd come by to check on her. Luz, having worried she might not be feeling well, had brought her a bowl of some strange human concoction called "chicken soup" that she'd gotten from a can in her junk collection. ("It's no magic potion but my mom. always made me chicken soup when I wasn't feeling well.) She'd also gotten her a person sized pillow that had the image of some male human character with spiky hair on it and with a little work slid it beneath Eda in her nest. The thing may have looked weird but it was comfy as heck and felt great for her sore back. Meanwhile King, still looking regretful about snatching her elixir, had fixed her a mug of apple blood as a peace offering.
While the mixture of alcohol and salty human bird water helped soothe some of her pain, Eda couldn't help but notice her apprentice and her housemate still standing off to the side of her nest. Both of them simply stood and watched as she ate and drank, staying oddly silent and staring at her as if she might disappear mid slurp.
It was almost a little unnerving. She hadn't expected either of them to be this quiet after discovering her curse. She figured Luz would've had her usual million questions about anything magical while King would be demanding to know why she hadn't told him before now.
Then again, it wouldn't surprise her if they were still too in shock. After all, while she had never been able to witness it herself, she knew her cursed form could be pretty terrifying to see. One person she'd lived with had been so freaked out by it, he hadn't been able to make any noise except terrified squeaks for 3 days.
Plus, the way they found out was pretty sudden. Sure, King shouldn't have stolen her elixir but it wasn't like he knew what it was for or why she took it. In fact, a part of her hoped he'd never find out.
But the cat was off the staff now. She knew that the two of them must still be curious, otherwise they wouldn't still be there. So it was time to witch up and deal with it.
Eda drank the last few dregs of soup from her bowl and drained the rest of her apple blood for a little courage before turning to King and Luz.
"Alright you two. I know you probably want to know more about all this. So, let's have it."
Luz and King took a moment to look at each other, almost seeming to have a full conversation in two seconds before turning back to her.
"No thanks." Luz said.
"Yeah, we're good." King agreed.
Eda blinked in confusion. "What? What do you mean?"
"We don't need to know anymore." Luz explained. "This whole curse thing seems kind of personal and besides you already told us all the important parts. So we don't need to know anything else."
Eda stared at her in stunned silence. She looked to King and was even more surprised to see him nod in agreement.
To say this was not what she'd been expecting would be an understatement.  Where was the yelling at her for putting them in danger? The demanding answers? The blaming her for not telling them about her curse before all this? Heck, the two of them didn't even look that upset. They just still had those weirdly concerned looks on their faces. Maybe they just worried she'd still be mad about them stealing her elixir and were too scared to bring it up.
But that brought another issue to mind. And while she might have become pretty fond of those two, she knew it would only be a matter of time until it came up.
Ignoring the tight feeling in her chest, Eda said slowly. "Listen…..if you guys want to find somewhere else to stay, I understand."
They both became bug eyed.
"What?!" Luz cried.
"What are you talking about?!" King asked.
Eda looked away from them, doing everything she could to keep the wetness in her eyes from turning into full blown tears.
Suck it up. She thought. It's not like you haven't done this before.
"Luz, you could probably see if one of those Hexside kids might be willing to let you stay with them, and King I-."
"You're kicking us out?!" Luz yelled.
"No!" King scrambled into the nest, got onto his knees  and clasped his paws together. "Please Eda, don't!  I'll never be able to find anyone else willing to  let me live with them without paying! If this is about stealing the elixir, I'm sorry! I swear I won't steal anything you don't tell me to!"
Eda frowned in confusion and turned back to them. "What? No. I mean, yes King, if you steal from me again I'll turn you into a tiny fur rug, but I just meant….you guys really don't want to move out?"
They both looked shocked at her question. "No." "Why would we?"
"Why would- how about  because I could have killed you two last night?" She felt bile begin to build in her throat and not the magical kind. "I could have eaten one of you like I did the snaggleback!"
"Oh come on Eda, it wasn't that-."
"Luz." Eda said, her voice hard. She didn't have it in her right now to deal with Luz sunshine attitude.
Luz must have noticed because she sighed and said. "Okay, look Eda. I'm not going to lie and say that today wasn't terrifying or that I wasn't afraid but….Eda, once I realized that the monster that was chasing after us was you? All I could think about was how I could help or what I could do to get you back. I didn't want to lose you."
Eda stared at her apprentice in complete shock. In her past talks with her living mates after they discovered her curse, they always talked about them . Their safety, their terror at her transformation, their discomfort at having Eda stay around after what happened. But Luz was thinking about her and whether she was okay.
It felt….weird. But in a good way. Kind of like a lot of things Luz did come to think of it.
Eda looked down to where King was still sitting in her nest. "And what about you King? You aren't freaked out by my little secret?"
King shrugged. "Eh, at first it was horrifying but after thinking about, its actually pretty cool. You're a demon just like me! Which technically makes you one of my subjects!"
Eda rolled her eyes. Typical King.
"And, since you are one of my subjects…."
"King, I swear to Titan, if you-."
".....than, that also means you fall under my protection." King finished. He walked over to Eda, climbed into her lap where he curled up into a ball. "If anyone wants to hurt you, they'll first have to go through me!"
Eda couldn't hide the amazement on her face as she gazed down at King. Then she felt something softly touch her shoulder. She looked over and saw Luz had placed a hand on her and was giving her a loving look.
"We're not going anywhere Eda. Us weirdos have to stick together, remember?"
Eda couldn't believe what she was hearing. Even after they both spent the night being terrorized by her and knew about her curse, they still insisted on sticking around.
They weren't going to leave her.
Luz suddenly frowned and looked at her worriedly. "Hey, what's wrong?"
It took Eda a moment to realize that there was a tear streaming down her face. She quickly wiped it away.
"Uh, no Luz, I just, uh, really loved that soup you brought me. There any chance there's some more?"
"I'll go dig through trash for another can!" Luz excitedly sprinted out the door.
Eda looked down at King. "Would my so-called "King" be willing to fix his new subject another apple blood?"
King stood up from her lap and stretched. "I suppose its what any humble ruler would do for his wounded subject." King took her mug and scrambled out of her nest and out the door.
Eda sighed fondly and layed back on her spiky hair human pillow, taking in the sight of the many light orbs that now dotted her ceiling thanks to her apprentice.
We're not going anywhere Eda.
If anyone wants to hurt you, they'll first have to go through me
Eda chuckled. "Thanks you two

Her room became a prison.
Persephone tried in vain not to cry herself to sleep the first night she spent trapped in the manor. No, she told herself, you’re too strong for that.
But she wasn’t. She vomited the very minute Draco left her alone in the room. She had to assist in killing Dumbledore. The Dark Mark painted her forearm. It was too much for her.
Her step-mother had arranged for her favorite house elf, Poppy, to bring her belongings to her new, overly spacious room. It had been quite the fight for her to be able to keep Poppy with her- until Narcissa Malfoy agreed, on the condition that Poppy helped to maintain the house while Persephone was absent.
She sat on the edge of the bed, Poppy organizing her things, while her hairless cat, Aegis, laid curled on her lap.
“Poppy,” she murmured, the elf immediately running towards her.
“Yes, Mistress Persephone?” she wondered, her giant eyes full of love and respect.
“Just Persephone,” she gently reminded the elf; she knew it was hard for her to correct that. “You don’t have to put my things away, dear. I can do it myself… would you sit with me?”
Poppy hopped onto the bed, and Persephone leaned on her. In some ways, Poppy was the mother she never had. In other ways, Poppy was like a best friend, or a little sister.
“Poppy,” Persephone whispered, tears collecting in her eyes. “I don’t know what to do.”
“What’s the matter, ma’am?” Poppy wondered, alarm written over her features. “Did Poppy do-?”
“Poppy, you’ve never given me a problem for as long as you have lived,” she pulled the elf into a hug, which she returned. “Poppy, do you promise me to keep a secret? Even from the Malfoy’s?”
“Ms. Persephone has my word!” she exclaimed, full of determination.
Persephone sighed, absentmindedly stroking a sleeping Aegis. “Poppy, I’m getting married now,” she showed her the extravagant ring, making her friend’s eyes widen.
“Congratulations, ma’am!” she exclaimed. “To Mister Malfoy?” she inquired, curiosity and innocence laced in her tone.
“Yes…,” Persephone confirmed. “But I don’t love him. I was forced into this. Honestly, I used to hate him in school… we haven’t talked civilly in… I don’t remember when.”
Poppy frowned. “Why is Ms. Persephone being forced to marry? Poppy doesn’t understand.”
“Apparently, our parents agreed… but, Poppy… here’s when it gets to be a bigger secret… Draco has been tasked by the Dark Lord to kill Dumbledore,” Poppy gasped at her statement. “And I… have to help him. They made me a Death Eater,” she showed her forearm, still red hot and painful. “Poppy, I can’t do it. I don’t want to. But if I don’t…”
Tears pooled in Poppy’s eyes. “They may kill Ms. Persephone!” she wailed. “Poppy doesn’t want Ms. Persephone to die! Poppy loves Ms. Persephone!”
Persephone gathered Poppy in her arms again, shushing her. “Poppy, I love you too… I’m more worried about them hurting you to hurt me,” it was true, it had definitely crossed her mind. Her love for her house elf was apparent, and they could very well use that against her. It wasn’t like she cared about any harm coming to others. Persephone cared about Poppy and herself. Self-preservation might be selfish of her, but she simply didn’t care. She wouldn’t have the Dark Lord kill her.
“Ms. Persephone should never worry about Poppy!”
She smiled sadly at her. Poppy was loyal to a fault, but she was the only being alive she considered family. Her father was a monster, as well as her step-mother.
“Ms. Persephone looks ill,” Poppy said. “Does Ms. Persephone need something to eat?”
“No,” she responded. Truthfully, she hadn’t eaten all day. Nor did she yesterday, when she had received her assignment. The Malfoy’s hadn’t seen her since. She imagined Draco was isolating himself, as well. She wouldn’t blame him.
A knock sounded at her door, and Poppy quickly jumped off the bed, running to finish putting clothes away.
“Poppy, stop, I’ll help,” she told her, in a whisper. “Just stay there, please. I need you,” Poppy nodded. “Come in,” she responded, in a voice that betrayed none of her turmoil.
Narcissa Malfoy entered the room, with all the grace and authority she was raised to aspire to. She was absolutely beautiful, and she seemed kinder than the other women she had encountered in the circle, purely because of her obvious love and devotion to her son.
“Hello, Mrs. Malfoy,” she greeted, wondering why she had come to see her.
She nodded, crossing the room and taking a seat on the plush couch.
“You haven’t been eating,” she stated. “You shouldn’t starve yourself.”
Persephone couldn’t muster a reply. Narcissa continued. “You were unaware of your betrothal to my son,” it was a statement rather than a question. She paused. “You two are just children.”
Persephone heard the sorrow in her voice. She was worried for her son more than anything, she knew, but was Narcissa concerned for her?
“I,” she began, locking eyes with Poppy, who looked anxiously at her. “I’m being rude… thank you, Mrs. Malfoy, for allowing me to stay in your home and for me to bring my dearest Poppy along with me.”
Narcissa spared a glance at Poppy, who bowed to her.
“I supposed you needed some sort of comfort,” she told her. “So you genuinely were never told of your betrothal?”
Persephone locked eyes with her. “I wasn’t, ma’am, no.”
Narcissa looked towards the window. “I was always fond of your mother… and I was distraught to hear about her passing,” she said it as delicately and discreetly as possible, considering the circumstances behind her death. “I watched you grow up. I knew you were clever… you never played with Draco or the other children… you observed. You read books.”
Persephone was at a loss for words. She had no clue where her soon-to-be mother-in-law was going with this.
“I love my son,” she stated. “I love him more than anything. You know, you’re like your mother… in more than just looks. I expected you to be a Ravenclaw,” another pause. “My dear,” Narcissa stood, tears in her eyes, and sat next to her. “I care for my son, and I care for you as his fiancée. Persephone, as a mother, I am not only concerned for him, but for you. You don’t have anyone left… but, however you feel, you have Draco now. Persephone, I beg of you… help him. Protect him.”
Persephone stared down at Aegis, regretting that her hands were always so cold on her hairless skin.
“I will,” she whispered.
Narcissa nodded, and walked to the door. “You’re welcome to leave the room, to walk around the manor or the gardens,” without another word, she left.

Her mother had once told her a story when she was little.
“Do you know why you were named Persephone?”
The five-year-old considered. She wasn’t fond of her name. It sounded silly, and once Draco made fun of her so much that she cried. She liked her middle name, Wren, better.
“I don’t know, mommy. I hate my name,” she pouted.
Her mother laughed, gentle, stroking her daughter’s hair and snuggling her closer in the plush bed.
“There’s an old Greek story about Persephone,” her mother began. The child perked up. “You were named after a goddess.”
“A goddess?”
“Yes,” she smiled. “The story isn’t completely happy, but it teaches an important lesson.
Persephone was a beautiful goddess, the goddess of spring. Her mother’s name was Demeter. Demeter and Persephone loved each other and would spend lots of time playing and dancing through the meadows. Demeter loved her daughter almost as much as I love you,” Persephone giggled, snuggling closer to her mother. She continued. “But, one day, Hades, the god of the Underworld, saw Persephone and fell in love with her beauty… so, he had her kidnapped and brought to the Underworld with him.”
The child gasped in horror, eyes widening.
“Demeter grew very sad. Almost as sad as I would be if I lost you. She searched the earth for her daughter, and the plants and crops stopped growing. Demeter was the goddess of agriculture. Humans grew hungry and starved because she wasn’t helping anything grow.
One day, Hermes, messenger of the gods, saw the misery Demeter felt, and he told Zeus, the king of the gods, to bring her back. Zeus demanded Hades return Persephone, who was pale and sick, but something bad had happened. Persephone ate pomegranate seeds in the Underworld, and if you eat there, you must stay there. Zeus decided that for half of the year, Persephone would stay in the Underworld with Hades, and the other half of the year, she would stay with her mother. So, when Persephone was on earth, it was spring and summer. When she wasn’t, it was fall and winter.”
Persephone looked up at her mother, brow creased with concern. “Mommy, that’s too sad. Why did you name me after something sad? I never want to leave you ever, ever, ever!”
She smiled at her child, with all of the love and adoration in the world. “Oh, my sweet baby… you will never leave me, nor will I leave you. I named you Persephone for a few reasons. One, you reminded me of beauty and springtime as soon as you were born. Your hair and eyes are as dark as mine, but you are vibrant and sunny, even in the cold. But the biggest reason, my love, is because nothing and no one will ever compare to the love I have for you. I love you more than anything in the world.”
Persephone jumped onto her mom, hugging her tight. “I love you more, mommy!”
“I love you more!”
“No, I love you more!”
She dissolved into giggles as her mom began tickling her, once again telling her she loved her more.
Persephone was lost in the memory, walking through the gardens. She wasn’t springtime, no, not anymore. She was only Persephone to her mother, and the people she had to act in front of. No, she was Wren now. Wren was pale and wan, battered and self-serving. Wren was a Slytherin, she lost the kindness she had carried before.
She only cared for what she knew was right, what she knew was worth fighting for.
The Malfoy’s gardens were spectacular, plants and statues well cared for, the scent of fruits in the trees and the perfume of flowers thick in the air. She wandered, in the warm night, dressed in her silk pajama shorts and matching top, trying in vain not to think of the hell she was living in.
She stared at the magnificent fountain with the strange urge to drown in it.
Her thoughts were interrupted by a new presence.
Draco walked up to her, in a black suit, an impassive expression drawn on his features.
He stood by her, neither looking at each other or saying a word.
“You aren’t wearing the ring,” Draco was the one to break the silence.
“No, I’m not.”
There was silence again.
She took his hand, which he shook away.
“What are you doing?” he nearly spat, disgust on his features.
She exhaled out of her nose. “Practicing. Didn’t you hear him? Hogwarts needs to see the happy couple.”
“I’m surprised that you’re even going to go through with any of this,” he commented.
She considered, finally looking at him. He was pale in the moonlight. He didn’t look well, either. He looked back, eyes falling to her bare arms, the Dark Mark covered with bandages that Poppy helped her with.
“I’m a selfish person, Draco. I don’t fancy dying. Nor do I fancy helping you to spill blood that doesn’t deserve to be spilled.”
Draco scoffed. “You’re just a blood traitor like your mother,” he sneered. “It’s exactly why I didn’t want this betrothal. Not with the likes of you.”
She glared at him, a hard set to her mouth, and began to walk away.
“Where are you going?”
She whirled around, tears threatening to form in her eyes. “If we’re suddenly so fond of speaking ill of one’s dead parent, I’ll make do with calling your father the biggest prat on the planet- he got what he deserved and I have no qualms hoping that you’ll be next, you twat.”
With that, she resumed her walk back to the manor, until Draco called out.
“Bardick,” he only ever addressed her by her surname. He walked up to her. She had stopped walking but still faced away.
She felt something press into her hand. A green apple.
“Eat. If you starve to death, it’ll ruin the mission.”
He walked by her, quickly, making his own way back to the manor.

'Sly,stay here and don't come out till I tell you alright?' Conner told his young son. Sly whimpered, reaching for his father.
'B-but Daddy! They'll hurt you!' The small raccoon cried, trying to grab the adult and pull him to safety. Conner just smiled knowingly, hugging his son. Possibly for the last time.
'I'm willing to risk that if it means keeping you safe Sly.....I love you.'  Conner said before he closed the closet door. He faced the intruders and prepared himself. He just hoped they didn't find his son.......Last he heard was Sly crying and calling him.
'Daddy!'
'Daddy-Daddy! Daddy! ' Conner woke with a start,staring at -
"Sly!" The four year old beamed at him, giggling.
"Daddy! You were talking in your sleep again silly head!" The gray raccoon chirped, nuzzling his father. Conner held Sly close to his chest, heart racing. It had all been a dream? No....no....a memory. Somehow he managed to survive the attack and the Fiendish Five were beaten and arrested. Conner had gone to the hospital and stayed for a good few months, causing Sly to be put in the Happy Places Orphanage until his father was released. That had been the hardest thing Conner ever had to go through. His poor baby boy, alone in that slum of a place. This was the first week that he had Sly back, and like hell Conner was gonna let go.
"Sorry 'bout that pumpkin. Daddy was just......remembering things. How are you this morning, are you hungry? What do you want to do today?" Conner asked as he sat up,Sly fitting in his lap like a puzzle piece.
"Can I go see Murray and Bentley? Pleeeeease?' Sly begged, big brown eyes pleading.
"Who?" Conner asked,raising a brow.
"Bentley and Murray! They're my friends I made in the orphananage!" The young raccoon happily chimed, beaming brighter than the sun.
"Oh? I'm happy you made friends,but.....I don't think we can go see them? Not unless we make an appointment." Sly frowned.
"Why?" The older raccoon shifted,sighing.
"Because. That's how they get adopted." He explained. That wasn't the right thing to say,as Sly's whole face lit up and he started to bounce like he had eaten mounds of sugar.
"CAN WE ADOPT THEM? CANWECANWECANWECANWE?" He yelled. Conner groaned, his head starting to ache.
"Sly,sweetie,no.....I can't adopt them. Its a long process, and I don't think they'd like me anyway." He tries to reason. His son looked disappointed and sadly slinked off his lap, disappearing into the hallway. Conner thunked his head against the bedframe. Why did he feel like this would bite him in the ass?
••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••
The next few weeks were full of Sly not so subtly leaving notes and hints of adoption around the house. Pamphlets in the cereal, single sheets of 'why adoption is the answer' on the coffee machine, even cute little drawn family portraits of Conner,Sly,and who he assumed were Bentley and Murray holding hands left by his computer, the toilet,just.....anywhere. This was NOT something Sly was going to drop was he?
It came to a head one night,as Conner finished cooking and went to the table, only to find it set for four. Conner sighed and put the meal in the middle of the table, calling for his son.
"Sly Thatcher Cooper! Get down here now!" He called upstairs. He heard the small boy coming down the stairs and waited for him, arms crossed. Sly saw the table, then looked at his father with hope.
"Uh....surprise?" He said shyly. Conner sighed again, rubbing his temples.
"Sly,sweetheart......You need to understand,we can't adopt. We can't invite more people to our lives, they might not be able to catch up. We are THIEVES Sly. We can't AFFORD to have a hippo and a turtle with us,they can't do what we do. I'm so sorry honey,I truly am." He said, kneeling beside his son and laying a hand on his shoulder. Sly looked at his dad, heartbroken. He began to breathe irratically, eyes welling up with tears. His hands curled into fists and his lower lip wobbled. It was at this moment Conner knew,he fucked up.
Piercing wails filled the house, possibly heard for miles. The paintings on the walls shook, glasses rattled, cats on the streets hid! Sly was throwing his first ever true tantrum. And what a glorious tantrum it was. Crying, wailing, screaming at the top of his tiny lungs. He threw himself around on the floor, rolling around and just LOSING HIS ABSOLUTE COLLECTIVE MARBLES. Conner couldn't believe it. His perfect son,the most well behaved toddler he had EVER known, was losing his shit right in front of him. All because he wanted two orphans to join their family............he was so going to regret this wasn't he?
"-and that's how I convinced Dad to adopt you guys! I may say,it has been my finest work to date." Sly said as he sat cross legged on the rug, beaming at his audience. Bentley, shaking his head, patted Sly on the back.
"Sly.....I'm not sure that's true. Your finest work is when you seduced that one weird fellow at school into giving you the answers for the chemistry test." He said. Sly blushed, covering Bentley's mouth.
"Shhh! Don't let Dad hear you!"
"Don't let Dad hear what?" Conner said as he came into the room. Sly removed his hand, smiling innocently.
"U-uh,that Murray is hungry again!" He lied. Murray looked up from his magazine.
"I'm not hungry,I'm STARVING!" The hippo complained. Conner chuckled.
"Well,I was JUST about to come get you rascals for pizza. Care to join?" He asked, laughing hard when the three preteens scrambled to get out the door first. Sly was last, but he turned to his dad and hugged him suddenly. Conner hugged back, confused before Sly spoke.
"I just wanted to say thanks Dad........I have brothers now,and they're essential to the team.....thank you for adopting them and teaching them......I love you." Sly said. Conner chuckled and kissed his son's head.
"I'll admit, they've grown on me.....just promise me no more tantrums. People thought we had an earthquake from how hard you kicked the ground." The older raccoon joked. Sly blushed and stuck his tongue out before joining his father and brother's at the table. It was a mismatched family. A little broken, but still good.
Yeah. Still good.
@cooperific-aus I loved your AU of Conner rasing them.

The Grinch Girl
Pairing: Ethan Ramsey x MC (Klaw Craig)
Warning: Nope only fluff content and bits of sadness.
Word count: ~2.3 k
A.N: Hello again folks! Did you miss me? Well this fic came out unexpectedly and wasn’t even planned lol. But I hope you enjoy this and Merry Christmas! And I know you’re impatiently waiting for Part 6 of my OH AU 1 but still is in progress. THIS IS MY FIRST STAND-ALONE FIC EVER OMG AND I’M REALLY NERVOUSSSS.
———————————————————————
Basically from all of the staff of Edenbrook Hospital there was a certain someone who didn't like Christmas as everyone else- Dr. Klaudia Craig. This wasn't something new for everyone because they knew she detested it.
She was occupying herself with lots of different cases in order to escape from the festive moments and the cheering voices of her colleagues ready to decorate the Infamous Christmas Tree.
At least that's what she thought.
She wasn't into the winter holidays or any kind of other holidays. Maybe she was a Grinch but as much as she had information about him it was completely another history- he hated people but not Christmas. Whereas she hated both of them.
Klaw didn't have any particular reason to be angry with anyone but she couldn't bare the fact to be involved in such kind of parties. Lousy and noisy people were always a migraine for her and would drink two strong pills in a day at least saving from that horrible sinusitis.
Her free times would always consist of reading books or scientific researches on internet for new developments in oncology surgery as she was eager to see the latest news. Furthermore she would watch BBC every time when the British Government released new announcements about the future of the country whom she dearly missed it. Maybe for others it was such a granny thing but for her was the best cure.
And as for today she was stepping into the corridors seeing the nurses chirping and decorating the railways and doors in which she let an exasperated sigh while shaking her head.
Why do they like them so much? It's completely nonsense. All of that glitter. Everyone seems so happy but I'm sure this is a façade.
Well clearly from her point of view it was maybe a façade but actually everyone was happy and was enjoying at its fullest. And that's why she hated it.
She never got to celebrate any holidays with her family as they have been always busy in their works and didn't pay too much attention on how this would reflect on their daughter's character in the future. They would always justify their lateness in house because of the "duty". God she thought that word would never get out of her mind.
When one of her patients asked her to do the Gingerbread House together she stared blankly as she had no idea what was this thing and she immediately regretted her lie to the kid.
Oh yeah of course I'll help you but until i finish my shift alright?
The little girl was smart and understood that she wasn't telling the truth and aside from that she could tell that the doctor standing opposite her wasn't even pleased about it and she let a mischievous smirk.
"You don't know what Gingerbread is, don't you?"
The doctor gulped hardly as ever. The patient saw her hesitation and asked sincerely.
"Don't worry I'll ask someone else but can I ask you why don't you know about the Gingerbread?"
"Mary, I think you need to rest now after your long surgery, right?"
"Got it doc."
With that she trailed off furiously as she didn't want to awake again that memory.
She hated herself.
She didn't want to be like this.
Harsh.
Cold demeanor.
Selfish.
And afraid to be happy.
When she went to the elevator she heard Sienna calling from behind.
“Hey Klaw!"
Oh god please don’t tell me she’s going to invite me to that party.
"Hi Sienna, how you've been?"
"Perfect! May I say everything is going to be awesome and I can't wait to celebrate with all of us in our apartment! You'll come too, right?"
God she wanted so bad to celebrate. But her logical answer was always ahead of what heart truly wanted. You can say without fear that she was an introverted ass.
"Uhm actually I won't."
Sienna's smile immediately faltered and shook her head in confusion. "Why?” Before Klaw could explain herself she abruptly said “Look If you're worried about those scumbag surgical residents, don't worry we won't invite them. And also-"
"Sienna it's not about them. It's just..."
"Just what?"
I don't celebrate Christmas Eve and I don’t have any intention to because I just simply hate it.
“It’s about patients Si and we have lot of work to do especially Dr. Ramsey won’t let me to finish the shift that easy so I’m leaving-”
“Not so fast gorgeous." a sing-along voice stopped her. "Where do you think you're going?"
"Oh, Bryce." She put a plastered smile while laughing nervously. As always. "Uhm, well I have to go to a patient now heh."
"Tsk. I don’t believe any single thing what you’re saying girlie.”
She wanted to seem so believable but this time was out of her luck. Before she would protest again he interrupted.
"Come on Klaw. We already know you've been working your ass since five in the morning and you haven't even eaten anything today needless to say- you haven't even wished us for Christmas."
"Oh really?" He nodded "Well- Merry Christmas Bryce!"
He frowned in confusion and was crooking his eyes in suspicion as she sounded differently from usual. Something was wrong and he was about to ask her again when he heard that annoying voice.
"Rookie!" Klaw's eyes widened but in the meantime she thanked him in silence for saving her.
"In my office."
"Yes Dr. Ramsey."
With that she excused herself to Sienna and Bryce who stayed mouth agape and Sienna was finally the one to break the silence.
"So...Plan A and B are ruined right?"
"Yeah" he slid from his pocket the phone in which he called a number. "Jackie." He let a defeated sigh. "Tell the others we need a plan C. That old man Ramsey destroyed everything."
--------------
When the elevator reached the 3rd floor Ethan guided Klaw to his office gently pushing the door for her to enter first. They made an arrangement before she started her residency- to remain professional but her gut feeling told that something not good was about to happen.
What was weird was the fact that the lights of his office weren't turned on but only those of his little Christmas Tree. She rolled her eyes annoyingly.
Great. Now I have to deal with another Christmas enthusiast.
He saw her expression and when she turned as if questioning, he gave her a rueful smile. "Please sit."
She did as he said raising her left eyebrow. "So? What is the reason you called me?"
"Simple. I want to find a treatment for a patient whose brain is not functioning as usual." He said ironically which she didn't get it.
"What are her symptoms?"
Even though it was not an usual question he would ask as every time- she was ready to show her high diagnostics knowledge despite being a surgeon.
"It's a difficult case and a rare one. I'm not sure if you're going to handle it."
"There's nothing I can't handle Dr. Ramsey." She said while raising her head in confidence. "Remember what you said to me in my intern year? When there isn't a path, you make your own."
"Fair well. This girl is about 5 years old and she doesn't celebrate Christmas because she hates it. What do you think we should do?"
"What? I don't-" Then it all clicked.
It was about her.
"You too?" She scoffed in disbelief while standing up "I really can't believe this!"
When she was reaching the door handle a strong grip on her waist held her in place and growled in her left ear that made her shivered. "You're not going anywhere!"
"What happened with being professional Dr. Ramsey huh?"
He shut his eyes and inhaled sharply. "Please. Tell me what's wrong. I know that you're worried about something."
"You don't deserve to know anything!" With that she kicked his crotch with her left knee letting herself free from him. That self-defense instinct she had- it was going to be the death of him one day.
"And you don't tell me what should I do!"
"Is that so Dr. Craig? Remember that I'm your boss."
"Ouch. So scary. What are you going to do then? Pin me to the wall?" She let out a weary chuckle "Remember Ramsey- I'm not going to play hot and cold game again with you because I've had enough! And don't even try to do the victim's face here 'cause you know that it's your fault that we're in this position now!"
She was the most infuriating woman he had ever met in his life and maybe this was the reason why he wanted her so badly. Her gorgeous face etched to his mind every night before sleep. When she was always angry she looked like a goddess to him no matter how and he would bow down just for her. One word or only one action from her and he was her slave.
"What happened Dr. Ramsey? Cat got your tongue?" said in a sing-along voice and when he didn't answer she wanted to use the opportunity to leave but his eyes were trailing her full parted lips.
No. No. No. Don't let him kiss you Klaw. Just don't.
But his actions were faster than she thought and her fear came to life. He kissed her such gently that made her cheeks blush enough to stop arguing. When they parted Ethan set both of his hands to her face trailing her cheekbones and temples saying in a soothing voice.
"Now, will you tell me what is going on with your cold behaviour?"
She nodded forgetting everything in what they agreed on. Maybe she would regret it later but it seemed that she didn't care for now.
---------
"So that's why I hate it. I mean I don't want to hate Christmas. It's just I don't want to leave the impression to the others that I hate holidays. I don't want to look like Grinch but still...Ughh I don't know.” she placed her palms in her temples. “I feel such in shame now like I don't even know what Gingerbread is!"
"Why haven't you searched on the internet before?"
"Well this is the case. I've never shown interest in it. The only thing that I would search were always something about science in general and projects for school. And I've never received Christmas gifts before which makes me well-" the last words she said almost in a whisper. "- not appreciated person."
Ethan could see himself in her somehow. After his mother left he didn't want to celebrate Christmas anymore as that day was one of the worst of his life. But his father Alan insisted that his son should see his future and letting that pain to go by every year celebrating and reminding him to be a strong man just like now. Whereas for Klaw he felt his jaw clenched in frustration when her parents now that they weren’t anymore never celebrated and not even letting her to go at least at her best friend's house.
"Do you think I'm a Grinch Girl, Ethan?"
When she called him in his first name he felt his chest warming as she was slowly becoming more openly to him.
"No." He said without hesitation. "It's clearly that you were raised like this and you should not blame yourself for that. You're not the only one who doesn't celebrate Christmas Eve. There are many people who don't even know what Christmas is so-" he put a strand of her brown hair behind her ear. "No, you're not a Grinch but...A grumpy one may I- agh!" he winced when she pinched his arm then smacked it furiously.
"That hurt."
"You deserved that."
"Seriously? I'm trying to understand you whereas-" she cut him off guard with another kiss but on his cheeks instead.
"Thank you. For always being nice to me."
"Hey, you know I would do everything for you?"
"Yeah, I know. But what am I going to do now?"
"First things first" he stood up from the couch where they were staying "You're going to say to everyone who you meet the magic words: 'Merry Christmas!'"
He chuckled when she let a groan. "And then you're going to pick some gifts in the shop for your friends because this is the value of this holiday- sharing is caring. And about gifts-"
He went to his drawer of his white wooden-metallic desk to reveal an object packed in a rectangular shape with a white strap.
"Wait is that-?"
"Yes it's for you". She stared at him. "Open it."
She took it hesitating at first because this was the first gift ever someone made especially for her and was fidgeting her fingers not knowing where to start because she didn't want to ruin the way how beautifully it was packed.
When she let go of the strap she gasped when there was an old book of Oscar Wilde's The Picture of Dorian Grey and there were two milk chocolates Fin Carré which was her favourite flavour and a little card were was written:
I'm sorry for being an asshole.
Merry Christmas Rookie!
E.R
"So...uhm do you like it?" He scratched the back of his neck nervously. " I know you're a bookworm and I remembered that Oscar Wilde was the only Irish author whom you didn't read so I went to the National Library and asked if there was still an old copy of it and luckily it was the last one."
She immediately left the gift in his couch and pressed a lingering kiss on his lips and said in a whisper while tearing up "Merry Christmas Ethan. And I'm sorry too for being grumpy and harsh to you."
"You don't have to apologise to me. Your friends and your patient Mary need to hear this. Okay?"
"Okay. Seni seviyorum. [ I love you ] “
“Uhm what?”
She giggled “I’ll tell you when the year ends.”
“But-”
“A girl has to keep some secrets, right?” said when she opened the door and left contently with it.
For the first time in her life Dr. Klaudia Craig felt a radiation coming through her body.
She was happy and grateful.
P.S: The words ‘seni seviyorum’ come from Turkish language. And no- my MC is not Turkish but British lol. She is a polyglot that’s why.

For @bend-me-shape-me‘s SPNAdventCalendar2020 Warnings: None for this one! Just Falling Castiel hurt/comfort. This now has a timestamp set sometime between October and December- Like Shards of Glass Pairing: Endverse Destiel Read on AO3 Master Post
The Warmth of Your Touch
That first year was hard. Dean wasn’t ashamed to admit as much. The Sam shaped void coming between them. It was worse than hard. He’d turn around to ask a question but the empty room was his only answer.
March rolled into April and Dean found himself alone more often than not. Castiel popped in when he could, but the tension would always bubble over. Words they’d both regret the next day thrown at each other before he’d disappear again. He claimed it was to find a way to save Sam. To stop the virus. Dean believed Castiel was just getting tired of him too.
The silence grated on him. Each motel room just like the last. Cold, empty, silent… deafening. Dean didn’t think he’d miss casual interactions with other people so much. But as May burned away into June and the virus started taking a toll, it hit him.
He was lonely. It was a completely ridiculous thought, but he was. Those he came across who were still human didn’t quite trust him. Which was fair, he didn’t trust them either. Yet every new person he saw, he longed for company. He longed to banter with his brother. He longed to have a beer with Bobby and talk strategy with Ellen and Jo.
He wanted— but it’d been almost two months since Castiel had last come to see him. He wondered, late at night in an old dusty motel room, what kept him away. He’d tell himself it didn’t matter. He’d tell himself if he needed to know he would.
Still he wondered. And he worried. What if something had happened? What if Castiel was hurt? (Could angels really get hurt?) What if he was dead? (God he longed to know he was okay.)
It was nights like these that he’d stare at the ceiling with empty liquor bottles and emptier eyes.
The heat of August brought Castiel back to him. They didn’t speak for the first week, but each time their eyes met, more of the hurt bled through. The ache in his chest lessened every night when Cas laid on the other bed. A silent promise he’d stay. That he wouldn’t leave Dean alone again.
His stomach churned every morning when he’d wake to find Cas curled under the moth eaten blankets asleep. Like the constant moving tide, he didn’t know how to feel. Content that Castiel was there? Or fearful that the angel didn’t seem so angelic anymore.
It all came to an abrupt stop mid October at a motel in Indiana. Dean had been watching. Silently from the background, suspiciously out of his peripherals. Every day Cas grew weaker. Every night he slept more, every day he ate more. His hands trembled when they faced a small group of Croats.
His breath came out shaky when his grace fizzled and popped while healing a gash on Dean’s arm. The hunter had looked away. Had pretended he hadn’t seen.
When Cas couldn’t heal a small nick he’d gotten from sharpening his knife, he’d looked so stricken. His blue eyes bright with gathering tears as he stared at Dean. It’d been at that moment that Dean Winchester understood. He’d moved from the bed (the only one still usable) and pulled Cas to his chest.
His gaze was distant as he tucked Cas’s head under his chin and let the fallen Angel break in his arms. He told him it’d be okay. That they’d fix everything. That this wasn’t the end.
They both knew he was lying. But the embrace was warm and comforting and outside the air was growing cold. For now, they’d let themselves pretend.
December brought heavy snowstorms.
“It’s cold.” Dean looked up briefly from where he was cleaning his gun at the tiny table. Cas was huddled under the trench coat he barely wore anymore and the threadbare blanket they’d picked up three states back. His gaze was vacant but Dean could see his body shaking.
With a sigh he set the metal and rag down. “I know it is, Cas.” Cas jerked his head over to settle on Dean. His brow was pinched and his mouth turned down in a frown under a bright red nose. Something about the image broke Dean’s heart. Another sigh and he was raising to his feet, shrugging off his own heavy coat in the process. He dropped it in Cas’s lap before slumping onto the mattress beside him. “It isn’t much, but it should help.” He offered softly.
Cas blinked at the dark canvas and then over at Dean. “But you will get cold now.”
“I’m more accustomed to the cold than you are.”
“But Dean--”
Dean pressed a chilled hand to Cas’s where he tried to hand the coat back. “Cas, no.” A puff of air escaped him as he ran his thumb across the underside of Cas’s wrist. “Just take it. I know you don’t want to admit it, but you aren’t an angel anymore.” Blue eyes shrouded in pain flit away to stare at the coat again.
Reaching his other hand over, Dean pressed it against the side of Cas’s neck before continuing, voice soft, “I’m not saying it to make you feel bad. I just need you to realize you can get sick now. You can get cold, and frostbitten and you can die, Cas.”
“So can you.” Cas retorted bitterly. Dean couldn’t help the small smile as he shook his head.
“Yes, but as I’ve said already, I’ve dealt with it before.” He brushed his thumb along the underside of Cas’s jaw before moving his hand to his back. Tugging the fallen Angel closer to himself, Dean sighed. “Once the snow lets up we’ll look for a warmer place to hole up. Maybe we’ll get lucky and find a motel with a working heater still, yeah?” He could feel Cas nod ever so slightly under his chin and he let his smile slip.
They sat like that in silence for the longest time. Dean had forced Cas into the other coat before he wrapped himself around him and draped the blanket over them both. Cas soaked up his body heat like a cat in the sun and Dean could only hope it was enough. He’d gladly give all of the warmth in his body if he could. If it meant Cas would be comfortable for at least the night. It was all his fault after all.
If it hadn’t been for him, Cas would’ve never fallen. He’d still be all righteous fury Angel. He’d still be unbroken, uncorrupted.
“I’m sorry.”
Cas let out a small hum and tilted his head just enough to level the hunter a confused look. Dean refused to meet his eyes as he swallowed. “I’m sorry Baby’s heat stopped working. I’m sorry I can’t fix it. I’m sorry we have to live like this. A constant chain of broken down motel’s isn’t the life for an Angel, and I’m sorry.”
“Dean.”
“I’m sorry you don’t have your Grace or wings anymore. I’m sorry I couldn’t protect you. I’m sorry I--”
“Dean!” The shout made Dean jump as Cas pulled away far enough to make Dean look at him. “It’s like you said, I’m not an Angel anymore, Dean. I’m human. A hunter now.” He brought his hands up to cup Dean’s cheeks and smiled sadly, “Like you, and this is the hunter lifestyle isn’t it? Why shouldn’t I get the whole experience just cause it’s the end of the world?”
He knew it was a jest, but the words made him sick to his stomach. “Just cause you’re human doesn’t mean I wanted this life for you, Cas.”
“No…” Cas agreed softly, leaning forward to press his forehead against Dean’s shoulder, his frozen nose brushing lightly against his neck. “But this is the life I got. The life we got. Honestly, as long as you’re with me, I’ll be happy to take whatever I’m given.”

In the Bond-Chapter 23 (Final Chapter)
Tumblr media
Summary: Lilah often wished she’d never said yes to working with the Gecko brothers—usually while dodging gunfire. At no time was she regretting that decision more than when she’s hanging upside down from the ceiling, staring down a group of hungry culebras and one (1) extremely powerful sun god.
Word Count: ~7,950
Warnings: Violence, blood, the use of explosives, a bad movie reference, death (kind of)
A/N: This is an AU of my Story In the Blood, which can be read here. Basically, this fic explores what would have happened if Lilah had met up with Geckos before she met Brasa.

They were once again sitting around the conference table looking at a map. In this instance, the squabbling had, thankfully, been kept at a minimum. With a common enemy between them, all the anger and mistrust of each other had been redirected outwardly. There was no sense in fighting with one another when a greater peril threatened them all.
Lilah had marked several points all along an open space in the desert—possible hideouts Benny had used in the past. Javier was currently working with a small, trusted crew to root out where he might be through other means. While waiting for new information, they developed about five plans, all centered around obliterating the ever loving hell out of him.
She’d given up on steering the plan into less violent territory, settling for making things as quick and as efficient as possible. Lilah wanted no more incidents of near-death for the people in this room, herself included. If that meant others had to die, then so be it.
Seth leaned back in his chair, “We won’t be able to get any further on this until we know where he’s holed up. I say we get some food.”
They’d been at it for hours, and though Lilah wasn’t particularly hungry, she was glad for the prospect of a break.
“Pizza?” Seth asked, turning to the only other person in the room not on a liquid diet.
Lilah shrugged, “Long as its not from that place across from the grocery.”
“Oh, come on,” Seth groused, “Its not that bad.”
“The health inspection code is a ‘C’,” she countered, “They found rats.”
“Not in the pizza.”
She leveled a stern look at him, “They found them in the fryers.”
Seth rolled his eyes, but relented, “Alright. I’ll pick another place.”
Lilah leaned on her elbows with an indulgent expression as Seth took out a phone and pulled up the website to order. The phone wavering in her vision, the reminder of how she’d been captured, made her flinch. She covered it by running her hand over the map, but not before Brasa felt it.
Sitting to her right, he had been texting frequently with Javier, relaying the updates as he got them. Sensing her unease, his thumbs paused over the screen as he mentally reached out to her.
Lilah rolled her shoulders, taking the comfort he offered. She had a mission to accomplish. She could cry about being kidnapped later. Belatedly, Lilah realized that the ‘deal with later’ pile was pretty damn big and she would definitely have to take some time to actually deal with it.
Richie, who had been checking in on Kate, tossed his phone onto the table, “Much as I hate to ask, I haven’t eaten since yesterday.”
Brasa gave a curt nod, “I’ll have something brought to us.”
“Its appreciated,” Richie replied in a rare instance of sincere, professional gratitude.
She took in Richie’s appearance. He looked...tired. As a man of nearly unbounded energy, to see the glint in his eye diminished was unsettling.
“I’m sorry about Jackknife’s,” she said, catching his attention.
He lifted a shoulder in affected nonchalance, “Its good. We’ll rebuild.”
That boded well. Lilah half expected to hear that he was moving on to another high risk, high yield project. That he was sticking with the place hinted at Kate’s grounding presence.
“Did the bar top survive?”
Richie smiled, “Yeah. Its a bit singed.”
“That’ll just give it character.”
“Fair point,” he conceded, pushing his glasses further up his nose, “We got interviews with contractors in a few weeks.”
She made a soft sound of praise, “Look at you, doing interviews, being official.”
His eyes dropped, demure, “We figured we should actually follow the policies you wrote.”
“That’s probably a good idea.”
Richie’s attention was momentarily taken by a staff asking him about his blood type preferences, and Lilah found herself staring at the map. The ground cover was too wide, she didn’t have enough supplies. There were too many unknowns for her to be comfortable with moving forward. It frustrated her to no end that she couldn’t just make a decision and be done with it—execute.
The door to the conference room opened and Javier strolled in. Dressed in all white, a gleaming silver cane tapping along beside him, he was smiling wide. Cat and canary.
“I have brought some guests.”
Two staff were each dragging along a single, fighting person. Lilah didn’t recognize them, but she caught their fangs flashing as they grunted in pain. Clothing bloodstained and ripped, they looked like they’d been in a serious fight—which she guessed they had.
Brasa stood, gloved hand sliding along the wood of the table as he circled it, “Do they have the information we need.”
Javier’s smile held, “I believe they do.”
“Good. Bring them to my office.”
“As you wish.”
Brasa watched them go, then turned to the group, “I will need to question them. You may remain here for the time being. Rest. Eat. I will return when I have Benny’s location.”
Lilah cut in, “I’m going with you.”
He fixed her with a hard look, “This is not an easy thing to do. I will very likely need to hurt them.”
She blinked, “I’m sorry, who in this room just got kidnapped? I think I’m owed a little time to take out some aggression.”
From his perch on the tabletop, Richie drawled, “She’s got a point.”
Brasa glared at Richie, earning himself an amused laugh. Then, he gave a single, curt nod, and reached out for her. Lilah took his hand and followed him out of the conference room and to his public office. The two chairs that normally sat in front of his desk had been pulled out so that they faced the walkway dissecting the room. In each sat a battered culebra—one with his head hanging down, the other glaring defiantly at no one in particular.
Lilah let Brasa lead her to them. His step slowed several paces away and he squeezed her hand before letting go. Lilah stopped where he left her, folding her hands in front of her body as she took in the scene.
Javier was standing off to the side, the staff having left prior to their arrival. His expression was relaxed, but she sensed a hardness underneath it. They’d done this before. Possibly hundreds of times over their unimaginably long lives. She drew in a breath to steady herself.
Brasa pushed his hands into his pockets as he regarded them, “What are your names?”
“Up yours,” came from the glaring one.
Without hesitation, and seemingly without thought, Brasa kicked out. His foot landed on the knee of ‘up yours’, the bone crunching audibly. Lilah felt her hands clench at the sound, but she managed to keep the wince from her face. ‘Up yours’ screamed in pain, his chin tilted up to the ceiling. He let out another, softer sound, then visibly calmed himself. He’d been prepped for this.
Stepping forward, Lilah edged around Brasa, one hand brushing his arm. She leaned down and caught the eye of ‘up yours’, “This will go much easier for you if you answer our questions.”
His glare returned, more fierce than before, “We’re prepared to die for this.”
Lilah nodded, two fingers touching his temple, “We’ll grant you that. Death is much better than what he,” she jerked her head towards Brasa, “is going to do to you if you refuse to cooperate.”
“Luis,” came a small voice to her right.
Lilah glanced over at him, “Luis. Is that you?”
He nodded.
“And this one?”
A hesitation, then, “Rafe.”
“Rafe,” Lilah echoed, turning her attention forward once again. “Where is Benny?”
Rafe pulled away from her touch, “Nowhere. Everywhere.”
She very nearly rolled her eyes. They knew that Benny had created a kind of weird mystique around himself and his mission. They also knew that he had cast them as the villains in the story. The technique made a lot of sense—it was still annoying as fuck.
A scoff from Brasa, followed by, “Spare us your delusions.”
Lilah straightened to standing, “Benny failed you over and over. Why continue to protect him?”
Luis cast her a look that was edging on pathetic, “He saved us.”
“From what?”
“From you,” Rafe answered, something more than derision in his voice. Hatred, perhaps.
Brasa moved. Slow. Relaxed. “Why would you need to be saved from us?”
Another answer from Rafe, “You are Xibalban. We know what you do to our kind.”
There it was. They’d been told enough to keep them scared—little truths that were coated in a thin, thin lie. Easy to swallow. Easy to accept. Easy to break.
“It is true that my people once committed inconceivable atrocities against yours,” Brasa allowed with a congenial dip of his head, “But that is not what I intend, nor is it what I will allow. Not any longer.”
Rafe sneered, “Liar.”
“Sometimes,” Brasa admitted, “When the moment calls for it. But, this is not that moment. I am not lying.”
Luis spoke, his lips trembling, “We don’t know that. You’ve been hunting us down. Killing us.”
Again, Brasa acknowledged the truth for what it was, “Only those who put us all at risk.”
Lilah could see how this was going to play out, could already hear the back and forth that would take time that they just didn’t have. Benny could strike again at any time, possibly with more firepower. Every second they spent debating right and wrong, good and bad, was a second that could cost the life of someone she cared about. Lilah made a decision.
Reaching into the pocket of Brasa’s slacks, she pulled out his knife, flipping the blade open. With deliberate slowness, she showed each of them the weapon. Then, she started talking.
“I’m going to give you an opportunity. The offer is time limited, and it will be given to only one of you.  Tell us where Benny is, and you live. First come, first serve.”
The room was quiet, save for the near constant snarls coming from Rafe. Lilah waited. Knife in hand, she simply let the quiet hold, let the uncomfortable stillness of silence make them squirm. If they knew Benny’s whereabouts, they’d tell her, and soon.
Luis broke first, “He’s in the tunnels, about ten miles north of where he...found you.”
The last two words were halting, as if he knew he shouldn’t say it, but couldn’t quite help himself. Next to her, Brasa growled low and long. She could feel the heat of his anger build both physically and within the confines of the bond.
“We have a winner,” she rasped, affected by how viscerally Brasa was emoting. Knowing that the longer they sat there, the risk of blood spilling would rise exponentially, Lilah turned from Brasa, “Javier, if you would, take Luis to be questioned further.”
“As you wish, Lady Lilah.”
Brasa held up a hand, “I want details, Javier. I want to know what Benny is planning.”
With a flourish, Javier hauled Luis up, tossing him towards the door, “I will take care of this.”
Luis landed hard on his knees, grunting in pain. But, he got up and let Javier lead him, limping, out of the room. The door closed with a kind of hard finality that eased Lilah’s anxiety. She felt Brasa’s confidence in Javier’s ability to get more of what they needed from Luis.
That left Rafe.
Lilah’s fingers gripped the knife, her jaw set, “Were you there when Benny took me?”
She didn’t recognize him, but she’d been hit pretty hard and had been too preoccupied with playing possum to memorize the faces of the people hauling her away. Beside her, Brasa removed his gloves.
Rafe shook his head.
“You’re sure?”
Another shake.
“I believe you.”
He visibly relaxed.
“But,” she continued, “I did say the offer would only be given to one of you.”
Rafe, knowing that she wasn’t going to relent, let out a sound of rage, rising unsteadily from the chair, hands outstretched towards her. He was stopped by Brasa’s hand around his throat. There was an almost too soft to hear pop as his larynx was crushed, the sound of his anger cut off with a wheeze.
Lilah closed the knife and slipped it back into Brasa’s pocket. Then, deliberately, she took a step back and crossed her arms. She’d said that she wanted vengeance, but exacting it with her own hands felt somehow unnecessary. All the fire that had been there five minutes before dissipated, leaving her feeling deflated.
Brasa had no such issues. His fingers curled deeper into Rafe’s throat, pushing beneath his skin. Blood welled up, dripping down the back of his hand to the floor. Lilah didn’t have to look at his eyes to know that they were red with rage, the glow of his power burning ever brighter beneath his skin. Flame burst from Rafe’s eyes, smoke wafting from his pores. He seared from the inside out, his body cracking into dust from the top down.
Brasa’s arm dropped, and he wiped the dust from his hands, his attention on the pile at his feet, “I should get a broom.”
Lilah looked at the spread of particles, trying hard not to think about the fact that it had once been a person, “We might have more important things to do right now.”
His brows quirked, “You might be right.”
***
Lilah stood at her station, well away from where the action would go down. The night was deep and dark, the new moon casting no light to guide their way. She looked over her equipment, one hand brushing over the black metal box sitting innocently to her right. Her laptop was gently whirring, all comms connected. At her thigh, her pistol rested in its holster, her knife strapped to her arm. Lilah hoped she wouldn’t have to use them.
According to Javier, Luis had talked freely, answered question after question. All of this was relayed to Lilah in detail until she felt like she had a good grasp on Benny’s plan. Brasa had sent Javier to set up the final blow, refusing to allow Lilah to do it, herself, as was her preference. She was too tired to argue, never having fully rested since the bomb had gone off two days before.
It was hard to think about it, the breakneck pace she’d been going at over that time. Lilah couldn’t even nail down if she’d slept properly, couldn’t remember eating or showering. And so, when Brasa had firmly pulled her into their room, she hadn’t resisted.
Assured that her friends were being taken care of, she’d let Brasa strip her down and run her a bath, let him wash her with soothing motions, until the water cooled And then, they’d tumbled naked into bed, the full darkness of the room letting her fall into a deep sleep.
She wished that she could say that she felt fully rested. While Lilah had slept for a long time, she had awoken groggy. Her body ached with something that wasn’t quite injury. She sleep walked through getting ready for the day, reluctantly eating a meal next to Seth, who sat drinking coffee while he cleaned his gun.
It wasn’t until she began to set up for the job that Lilah’s brain kicked in. This was it. They could be done with this awful mess today. If they succeeded, Lilah vowed to herself that she was going to do something fun—maybe rob a museum.
As she was contemplating this, heat built at her back. She looked up to find Brasa and Javier standing not far away. Brasa was wearing the familiar uniform of leather, sunglasses perched on his nose. Next to him, Javier was very much out of uniform. Instead of a sharply tailored suit, her wore thick canvas pants and a long sleeved shirt. He’d forgone his usual cane, a literal sword strapped to his hip.
“Are we set up?” She asked Javier.
With a deferential nod, he answered, “We are.”
“And you made sure to ground the connection—its just that it could go early if you—.”
Brasa laid a gentle hand on her shoulder, “He was very thorough. This will work.”
Lilah’s jaw shut with an audible click. She pursed her lips, the effort to hold back further questions not inconsequential. She busied her hands and her mind with activating the comms.
“McNamara online,” she said evenly.
It took a few seconds to get a response, but eventually she heard the click of the mic turning on.
“Richie Gecko online.”
“Oh, shut up,” Seth groused, “We’re in place.”
“You’re the one who said we should take this seriously.”
“Yeah, but this isn’t the fucking movies.”
Lilah rolled her eyes, “Alright. Hang tight while we get a lock on him.”
Tapping her mouse pad, Lilah opened the tracking app, “You think he’ll go for it?”
Javier shifted on his feet, “I believe he will. He’s already proven that he’ll sacrifice anyone and anything to protect his own skin.”
She stared at the little dots on the screen, “And Luis?”
“Running back to daddy,” he intoned, derision tainting his voice.
“You’re sure.”
He sighed, “I’ve done this a thousand times over. I know fear. I made him very, very scared before I let him go.”
The intensity with which he spoke, the unsaid threat in his tone, was enough to make Lilah drop the subject. She turned her attention to the screen, taking note of her location and the pair of dots indicating Seth and Richie. At the bottom left corner was a renegade dot that was steadily moving towards them. She watched it shift across the screen, pixels lighting up along the path.
It stopped at a fair distance from where the other two were congregated. Lilah held her breath as she waited for it to either stay where it was or start moving again. It stayed.
“He’s back,” Lilah murmured.
A flash of headlights appeared, lighting her station. She turned around in her seat, squinting at the car coming towards them.
“Is that one of ours?”
Brasa touched her shoulder, “It is. I should have warned you. Richie insisted.”
The car pulled up, dust swirling around the tires as it came to a stop. The engine and lights cut off, the driver’s side door opened. A dark head popped up, hair pulled into a high pony tail. Kate was dressed for practicality—jeans, t shirt, jacket, boots, gun. She closed the door, and walked confidently towards them.
Lilah waved at her, “Welcome to the party.”
She smiled wryly, “Richie said I couldn’t go with him, so I thought I would go with you.”
To be honest, Lilah was grateful for the extra support. It was often the case that she was alone, running the logistics, while others were executing her plan. Today, when the stakes were high, she found that she didn’t like the thought of being by herself.
Brasa took her hand, saying lowly, “Keep the bond open.”
She nodded, “Absolutely.”
“Good,” he leaned down and kissed her temple.
With a nod to Kate, Brasa turned from them. Javier stood a moment longer, his eyes absorbing Kate in detail. Then, he stepped back and followed his lord into the darkness.
Kate sighed with an odd kind of relief, “Well, what’s the plan?”
Lilah lifted a brow, “Richie didn’t tell you?”
“He said that he would be, quote, ‘fucking shit up’, but that’s as far as I got.”
That made sense. As if he’d gotten a power up in a video game, Richie had gotten some of his energy back as they neared the start of the job. As he’d loaded up the car, he’d been fairly vibrating with energy, a wide smile wrapped around a cigarette. Seth, on the other hand, had been stone cold sober—both literally and figuratively. The seriousness of his expression, the cant of his shoulders, told her that he was determined to get this done.
“Okay,” Lilah said, sliding into her chair, “This is Seth and Richie. And this,” she pointed to the errant dot, “is Luis. We’re fairly certain that he is heading back to Benny to tell him that we know his plan.”
Kate peered at the screen, “What was his plan?”
“To nuke the entire cave system, causing a sinkhole that spans across our entire territory.”
Eyes narrowing, Kate said, “That doesn’t make sense.”
Lilah cut her a glance, “What about it doesn’t make sense?”
“Benny’s schtick is all about how Brasa is destroying their way of life, right? What does taking down the cave system do.”
Lilah hesitated, her mind running through it, “I...think its because Brasa said they built it.”
“They did what?”
Hand waving to the land in front of them, “They built it—the Xibalbans. Its this huge maze of tunnels that are carved deep into the rock. I’ve only seen some of it, but its huge and complex and had to have taken forever to accomplish.” She paused, eyes scanning the middle distance, “I think that he made the caves a physical representation of their rule.  I mean, right?”
Kate cocked her head to the side, “That could be right. Benny could also be batshit crazy.”
“Fair point.”
“Well, we can pretty much guarantee that he’s going to change his plan, knowing that we know.”
Lilah shook her head, “If you’re right and he is batshit, then we don’t know that. Crazy isn’t always predictable.”
“That is a fair point.”
“Which,” Lilah added, tapping out a few commands, “means that we need to get a little more inside information.”
She cued up the sound, activating the comm Javier had placed carefully into Luis’ pocket on the way out. For a few minutes, she had to screw around with the settings, trying to get the best sound quality.
We should keep to the plan—Benny. Make their land unlivable, give them no place to retreat. Then, we pick them off like the parasites they are.
What about the Xibalban? Came a voice she didn’t recognize.
They’ll protect their bondmate first. When they realize the danger, they’ll come running.
Lilah reflexively looked around, trying to discern if they were going to be attacked from the deep black of the landscape around them.
“Could they know where we are?”
“No,” Lilah answered, feeling her shoulders drop, “No, they couldn’t.”
“Then…?” Kate prompted, her head shaking from side to side in confusion. “Oh no… get your phone.’
“What? Why?”
“They’re gonna finish off the bars,” Kate’s voice cracked, “We have to get the staff out of there.”
With a long line of curses falling from her lips, Lilah sent off a barrage of texts to the floor manager, telling them to get themselves and everyone else out of the building. As she did that, the conversation coming from the ear piece continued.
We should cut and run—Naya.
We run now, and we’ll keep running. We have to hit them where it will hurt.
Didn’t we already do that? Benny, you burned down his lair, you bombed both their bars—every time you try to hit them, they just keep...coming for us.
That was not untrue, and Lilah hated that she agreed with Naya. Her mouth turned down as she listened, half her attention on the phone in her hands as she waited for confirmation that the staff had been taken to safety.
They aren’t invincible, Naya.
Neither are you. A sigh. Maybe we should leave. Maybe we should just leave them here and go find a place for ourselves.
And let them win? There was that voice she didn’t recognize.
If we don’t fight now, we’re gonna end up like Luis, over there.
A heavy silence landed in the middle of the conversation, and Lilah could only guess that Luis had been killed after he’d told Benny that he’d talked.
We just found each other, Benny. I don’t want to lose you so soon.
You won’t. We’ll handle this, and then we can start our lives together.
The sincerity of his tone, the way Lilah could hear every emotion steeping into his words...It helped her to understand how so many people could believe him when he told them that they could succeed.
Brasa’s voice sounded from over the bond, We’re in the caves. Where should we go?
Lilah relayed Benny’s location, telling him to be careful. She avoided details about the secondary plan, about how Benny had wanted to distract him. It wasn’t necessary. She’d taken care of it, and would fill him in later.
“They’re headed for Benny. If he wiggles out of it again, Seth and Richie will herd him to the back up plan.”
“What is the back up plan?”
“We got incoming!”
Lilah tapped the keyboard, “Seth, what’s going on?”
“Got a group of ‘em heading towards us. Richie and I will take care of it.”
“Yeah, nothing we can’t handle.”
Lilah nodded, even though they couldn’t see her, “Be safe. Don’t do anything stupid. If it gets too hairy, cut and run.”
There was a pause, then, from Seth, “Duly noted, boss.”
Unable to listen to the gunfire she knew was coming, Lilah cut the line. Next to her, Kate checked her phone, tapping on the screen a few times.
“What’s left of Jackknife’s is empty. The staff have gone to ground.”
“Good, good.”
Lilah’s phone had been silent, no response from the manager. She hoped that meant they were taking care of business and hadn’t been killed in the second wave. Her stomach rolled with regret that she hadn’t thought he’d attack there again, that she may have inadvertently put both her staff and the remaining injured culebras in danger.
We knew you’d be here—Benny.
Apparently, Brasa and Javier had arrived. She found herself leaning into the computer as she listened.
This needs to stop, Brasa’s voice was deceptively soft. She could feel how he was going to stop things, how much it took to say what came next, The two of you can go. We just want him.
Not a chance.
I can’t leave him.
This was said simultaneously, but Lilah could pick apart the variation in tone. The unknown man spitting the words out, Naya’s voice soft and weak and desperate. She resisted feeling sorry for either of them.
We will take him by force, Javier pronounced, and she could hear some rustling, then, We don’t want you, but we will go through you.
More rustling, I’m not afraid to die. And, if I get to take you out with me, that’s a bonus.
And then there was a bang that preceded the comm cutting off entirely. Lilah stared at the screen, one finger tapping on the keyboard to try to bring the sound back. No use. It was fried. Closing her eyes, Lilah reached across the bond to find that Brasa far away, further than he’d been since the beginning of all this.
She couldn’t tell if he was hurt, or if he was putting distance between them so that he could concentrate on doing what needed to be done, so that he could shield her from it.
“How fast is your car?”
Kate smiled, “Pretty damn.”
“Let’s go.”
It wasn’t until they were speeding away that Kate actually asked where they were going, “I’m literally hauling ass through the dark, here.”
Lilah pulled up her phone, opening the tracking app for the comms. She had the last location of Brasa, the little dot shining from somewhere below the ground. And then there were the two dots signifying the brothers. They were a little further South than they had been, but they were moving.
She opened the line, “Guys, you there?”
A click, “Yeah, we’re here. Kind of busy, though.”
Then, Seth cut in, “These fuckers just keep coming.”
Lilah swallowed down her rising nerves, “We’ve lost contact with Brasa and Javier. We’re gonna check it out.”
A few shots fired, the sound of it making Lilah wince. Seth’s voice followed, rough with exertion, “That’s a bad idea. He can handle himself.”
“I think,” Lilah croaked, “I think they had the same idea we did.”
There were more shots, intermittently cut through with unintelligible yelling. Lilah tried not to think about what was going on, knowing that her mind was far more creative than was typical of reality. Instead, she focused on directing Kate while she waited for a response that she might not get.
“Ah, fuck!”
“What happened?”
“Got clipped in the side,” Seth ground out, “Its not deep. I’m good.”
He wasn’t talking to her. She could tell. He was reassuring his brother.
“Quit getting hit,” Richie demanded, “We got people to kill.”
“Yes, Richie, that’s so helpful.”
Knowing that she wasn’t going to get them to focus, and the attempt might result in another injury, Lilah turned down the volume and pointed to the left of the car, “That’s about where they were.”
Kate pulled to a stop, shutting the car off, “What do you want to do?”
“I want to find him, and I want to ring his neck for leaving me in the dark.”
“Alright.”
Pull her gun from its holster, Lilah exited the car, using the headlights to peer around, “I don’t see anything.”
Kate had followed her example, a nine millimeter pointed towards the ground in front of her, “I don’t either.”
“They must still be in the caves, or—,” Lilah cut herself off as she spotted a plume of dust settling not too far away.
Kate followed her gaze, her mouth thin as she concentrated, “You think…?”
“Yeah,” Lilah breathed, “We need to be careful. The ground looks unstable.”
And indeed it did. Fissures cut through the rock below, the surface shattered in some places. Lilah eased forward, stepping back quickly when her foot sunk deep.
“Okay, what do we do?” Kate asked, taking a few steps back her eyes flicking back and forth.
“I don’t know.”
In the distance, something blew up. Another. And another. The sound came from all around them. Lilah could feel vibrations in her feet, in her chest, her hair standing on end.
“The fuck?”
Kate grabbed her arm, “The plan—they planned to blow the caves.”
Lilah stared at her, her mind slowly working to put the pieces together.
“He wasn’t going to hit the bars,” Kate said, her eyes shining with intensity, “He was going to bring us here. He knew you’d feel the hit to Brasa, knew you’d come here.”
Lilah looked down. Another bomb went off. There was no telling how many more there were, or when the ground beneath them would crumble. Angry and afraid, she reached out, slamming through the bond as it stretched thin.
I’m here. I’m fine. Javier is fine. We are near your post.
As relieved as she was to hear it, she cut through his reassurances, I already came to you. I followed the comm. Kate and I are standing on the caves.
She sensed his fear, sensed that he’d turned and was running back towards her, I’m coming.
No, no, that’s what he wants. You need to head towards Seth and Richie. They’re the next stop. Kate and I will get out of this.
Kate was already moving to the car, ushering Lilah along. Inside, she slammed the transmission into drive and they hauled ass away.
“We need to get to Seth and Richie,” Lilah said, pulling out her phone.
As she expected, their dots were moving towards the rendezvous points. Unexpectedly, the comm they’d planted on Luis was also moving. It had reconnected to the tracking system, and was flying in a twisting pattern towards the Geckos.
Lilah glared at it, flinching as a bomb went off a little too close for comfort. Kate was driving fast, the car eating up road as the engine roared. If it had been anyone else at the wheel, Lilah might have worried for her safety. As it was, Kate was a notoriously skilled getaway driver, having honed the talent over many jobs.
She hesitated, her finger hovering over the connection button on the app. Her hunch could be wrong.
Mouth curling, Lilah connected to the comm, “You still alive?”
There was rustling along the line, a bit of feedback, then, “I am alive and well.”
“Wish I could say that I’m glad to hear it, Benny.”
He chuckled, the sound coming out forced, “Good thing I don’t give a fuck about your happiness.”
“I’ve noticed.”
“I’m guessing that you can see where I’m heading.”
“I can.”
“Good,” he bit out, “Then you’ll know when I’ve taken care of your friends.”
“You’re not going to make it that far, Benny.”
“We’ll see.”
The comm disconnected from his side. Lilah sighed and shut down the app. She pushed her phone into the pocket of her sweatshirt and fiddled with the edge of one of her sleeves.
“We almost there?”
Lilah nodded. Whatever she might have answered was cut off as a bomb went off too close to the car, the ground exploding outwards. Rocks shattered the windows on the driver’s side, the car swerving as Kate tried to keep control. A second bomb went off a moment later, the back side of the car lifting about ten feet. As it slammed back down, Lilah could hear the axle crack, knew instinctively that they had to get out, and fast.
“Out! Out!” Lilah cried as she threw off her seat belt.
Disoriented, Lilah stumbled as she got out of the car, looking over the body to see Kate slamming the door closed and rounding the hood.
“You alright?”
Lilah nodded, “I’m good. The car’s fucked, though.”
As if on cue, a bomb went off maybe a hundred yards away, and the ground shifted. Lilah felt it in a way that she couldn’t describe, an intangible feeling that scared her more than she’d ever been scared before. In between one second and the next, the ground sunk down, caving in on itself. The hole grew bigger, yawning ever wider as it worked to swallow them whole.
“Run!”
Lilah had never, never made her feet move so fast. The air whipped at her as each step slammed into the ground. The roaring in her ears was only tempered by the sound of her own breathing. A glance over her shoulder saw the car rear up before falling down into the depths, cutting off the light. Gritting her teeth, she dug into her pocket, her stride slowing as she keyed up the flashlight on her phone.
The path before them was illuminated, much good that it did them. On either side of them, the ground trembled. They weren’t going fast enough. They were going to fall.
Brasa…
He heard her, but his answer was overpowered by the way the ground fell out from under her. Lilah’s arm was caught by Kate, who dragged her to the side.
“Over there, the rock formation. That’s the safest bet.”
Not in a place to argue, Lilah followed Kate’s lead, pushing through the burn and strain of her muscles. As they neared, a tiny flicker of hope swelled, urging her to just keep moving. Lilah obeyed the feeling, arms pumping, breath punching in and out.
Another huge chunk of ground swelled up and dropped, the rumbling sound of crunching rock following. She veered, moving with Kate towards the only goal in sight.
Scrambling up, Lilah climbed as quickly as she could, digging her feet into the stone and scraping her palms. Behind her, in front of her, to her left and right, the earth roiled. She could hear more of the cave system crumble in on itself, taking whoever might be inside with it.
Near the top, with Kate huffing at her side, Lilah turned and watched the disaster unfold. It was a sight she would never forget. The whole world, as far as she could see it, rocked up and down, sinking and rising, turning over almost completely.
“He meant for us to be in that,” Kate said, the barest tremble in her voice.
“He did.”
“Fuck this guy.”
“Yeah,” Lilah said, when she could find her voice again. “Fuck this guy.”
Kate closed her eyes, and Lilah didn’t even have to guess at what she was doing. She drew in a breath to follow suit.
I’m okay. We got out.
Let me through.
Have you found Seth and Richie?
Let me through.
Tell me. Did you find them.
I...did.
And?
Seth’s hurt. We can’t stop the bleeding.
Horrified, Lilah opened her eyes, catching a similar expression on Kate’s face. She made a decision.
“Tell Richie to let you through.”
Not waiting for an answer, Lilah reached out to the bond, got a good grip, and pulled. The world tipped over, and Lilah landed hard on her knee, dry heaving.
“You could have just asked,” Brasa griped from not far away. Then, “Are you alright?”
She nodded, swallowing.  As she looked up, Lilah caught Kate landing next to Richie, who was already bending down to help her up. Next to Richie was an ashen Seth. He was leaning against their car, blood soaking clean through almost the entirely of the front of his button down. His suit jacket was crumbled a few feet away, along with his gun holsters. He looked like he was going to try to stand, took a single step, and crumpled down in a heap.
“You look like shit.”
Seth started to laugh, the sound cut off by a groan of pain, “Fuck you, too.”
Ambling over to him, Lilah sat on her heels, “We need to get you to a hospital.”
He shook his head, “I’m good here. Could use a drink, though.”
“Don’t need to thin your blood any more than it already is,” Lilah shot back, “You’re hurt. This isn’t just a flesh wound.”
“Benny got in a good shot, I’ll give him that.”
Lips sneering, Lilah said, “We’ll get him back for this. We still have an ace up our sleeve.”
Seth sucked his teeth, blood coating the enamel, “You need to be getting to that ace.”
“Not until I know you’re going to make it.”
He was already shaking his head, “This isn’t something you come back from.”
Seth lifted the hand that had been staunching the blood, a spurt shooting out with every beat of his heart until he covered it again.
Lilah to a moment to think, “You can. You can come back from this. Richie can help you.”
She knew the moment that he understood what she was saying. She also knew that he was going to refuse.
“I’m not having this asshole,” he pointed to his brother, “Hold it over me for eternity, thank you very much. I’ve had enough of that already.”
“Are you seriously arguing about this while you’re dying?”
Seth glared at her, though the effect was somewhat diminished by the fact that he was struggling to focus.
Lilah laid a hand over his, worried by the cool skin beneath her fingers, “Then, let me do it.” Surprised by her own words, she glanced up at Brasa, “I can do it, right?”
His mouth parted, closed, parted again, and then he nodded, “Yes. Your blood is my blood, and blood is the conduit.”
Turning her attention back to Seth, Lilah lifted her brows in question, “It’ll be better if its me, right?”
He was quiet for a long time, so long that Lilah began to feel the hope that had sparked while the earth trembled beneath her feet begin to fade. And then he nodded.
Hand digging into her sweatshirt, Lilah pulled out her knife. She rolled it into her other hand. And then, before she could question it, she dug the blade in. Carefully, Lilah dripped the steady stream into Seth’s mouth.
He took a deep gulp, then tried to pull away. Lilah cradled the back of his head, holding him to the wound, her eyes lifting once more to her bondmate.
“How much?”
Brasa’s eyes were fixed where Seth’s mouth met her skin, “A bit more.”
Lilah held her position for a minute or two more, focused enough on her task that she didn’t hear the conversation going on around her. Then, when she thought it might be enough, she pulled away. Seth, already weak, couldn’t keep his head up. His eyes were rolled back, forehead clammy.
“How long does it take?”
This time, Richie answered, “It depends, but not long. I’ll stay with him. You guys go after Benny.”
Kate moved to stand next to Richie, “I’ll stay with him, too. He’ll need someone here who won’t rib him for ‘coming to the dark side’.”
The last little bit of that sentence was said with heavy sarcasm and a pair of finger quotes.
Lilah sheathed her knife and stood, “You’ll let me know that he’s okay.”
With half a smile, Richie tapped the ear piece, “I’ll give you live updates.”
“Thanks.”
Brasa moved to her side, holding up the little metal box from her station, “I thought you might need this.”
Lilah took it gratefully, “I do. Thank you.” She rose up on her tip toes and kissed him lightly, “Let’s go kill this shithead.”
After settling Seth as comfortably as possible, Lilah took the keys to the car from Seth’s coat and hopped into the driver’s side. Brasa’s body dropped into the passenger’s side, Javier nimbly climbing into the back.
She rolled down the window, pointing at Richie, “Real time updates.”
He gave her a little salute and shooed her away, his focus turning to his brother.
It surprised Lilah how quickly they arrived at the rendezvous point, though it was nowhere near where they’d found Seth and Richie. Over the horizon, the sky was beginning to grow pink with the rising of the sun. She pulled to a stop a good distance away from where she knew Benny would be.
If all had gone to plan, they would have all been sitting here, watching this. Lilah comforted herself with the knowledge that they were at least unhurt, mostly. Seth would get better, would be healed before she got back.
Opening the door, Lilah got out, closing it behind her, the black box tucked beneath her arm. She didn’t bother looking for Brasa and Javier to follow, already moving around the huge boulder she’d parked behind. Pulling out her phone, she checked the dot representing Benny. He was right where she wanted him to be.
Below, the rock face sheered off, giving her the best view of the helipad just across a flowing river. Lilah breathed in the cool morning air, wind blowing gently.
Brasa leaned against the rock to her right, glasses reflecting the world below, “I can do it, if you want.”
Lilah looked at him.
“You don’t have to do it, if you don’t want to.”
She caught the glimmer of Javier as he stood at a respectable distance, felt the subtle change in light as the sun continued to rise. The night seemed far away already. The anxiety. The fear. The relief. It all felt as if it were a dream. And yet, here she stood, at the precipice of committing the final act in their plan. She felt no hesitation. She felt no fear. Lilah wasn’t quite sure she could feel much of anything.
“I got it,” she said finally.
And she did—have it.
Looking down, Lilah opened the box, her thumb flicking each of the toggles upwards until red turned green. In the distance, she heard the blades of the helicopter begin the turn. She looked down. Two figures ran for the craft.
“Is that him?” She asked Brasa, knowing that his eyes were infinitely better than hers.
He craned his neck, looking down his nose, “Yes.”
Without thinking, she tapped the comm, “You still alive?”
From across the distance, Benny laughed, “I am. Tell me, is Seth?”
She sneered, “He is.”
“Shame,” Benny replied, unrepentant. Then, with a light, conversational tone, “Hey, McNamara, looks like we’ll be seeing each other again sometimes.”
They wouldn’t.
“Hey, Benny,” she shot back, “looks like you’re on the wrong side of the river.”
Lilah waited a moment more, watching as the two figures climbed inside.
She pressed the button.
The explosion was small—or, perhaps it was only small because she’d seen so many up close not an hour before. From around the helipad, the explosives went off. In a succession of fifteen or so, they obliterated the ground beneath, until it began to crumble in on itself. And then, just for good measure, the helicopter, itself, detonated. Lilah watched until the whole thing fell into the hole the first blast had created, then closed the box and looked to Brasa.
“I want to go home.”
And that’s what they did. They found Seth, Richie, and Kate where they’d left them. Stuffing everyone into the car, they went back to the bar. Lilah was not ashamed to be relieved that the place was still standing. In their absence, the elevator had been fixed. It opened to workers still making repairs, a fine smattering of dust on every surface.
Tired, and half awake, the group filed into the conference room. Seth was laid out on the tabletop. As was his way, Javier was already arranging for food, liquor, and blood to be brought to them. As Lilah moved to sit, Brasa pulled her away from the chair she’d pulled out. With quiet care, he gathered her into his lap, holding her around the waist.
She wasn’t surprised to see Richie doing the same with Kate, though he was watching his brother very closely.
“When will he wake up?” she asked.
“Any minute,” Richie answered, his voice even and sure.
“How do you know?”
“Because Javier is bringing a bottle of shitty bourbon and you know he can’t resist.”
She laughed, some of the feeling coming back to her. Resting against Brasa, she watched as Seth laid on the table, unmoving.  He’d been asleep for so long that she was doubting her decision. Sensing her unease, Brasa ran a hand up her back. Up and down. Calming.
Her shoulders didn’t move from where she’d had them bunched up by her ears until Seth drew that first, ragged breath. The relief coursed through her, tears dotting her cheeks. Sniffing, she wiped them away, resting an elbow on the table as leaned forward.
Richie eased Kate to the side, rising. He took a few steps around the table, lifting a hip and sitting not far from Seth’s head.
“Welcome back, brother.”
“Fuck. You.”
Richie laughed, “Glad to see you’re going to still be cranky when you wake up.”
“I died, you asshole.”
“I know. I was there.”
Seth tried to sit up, dropping heavily back down, “Fuck.”
The door to the conference room swung open, Javier pulling a cart in behind him.
Richie smiled, “Breakfast is here.” Then, softer, “You need to feed, Seth.”
Lilah though he would fight, thought he would grumble and pout until the hunger took over. And yet, when Richie held the bag out to him, Seth took it. With ease that could only come from watching someone do it over and over, he tore into the plastic, and drank it down.
Standing hesitantly, Lilah crossed into his field of vision. He drew back from the bag, breathing hard, game face on.
“Hey.”
He swallowed hard, “Hey.”
“You feel ok?”
One shoulder lifted, “For having nearly died, I feel pretty good.”
“Cool.” Then, “You want to steal a Renoir with me later?”

WARNING THIS STORY CONTAINS: BHM Luka (Steins;Gate)
After sending a message to Luka's mother to eat tons of meat, Okabe finds himself in a new timeline where the once slender Luka has taken a much heftier appearance.
This is a commission for goodandnice on DA: https://www.deviantart.com/goodandnice
Head shivering with unnatural tremors. A splitting pain going through his cranium. The world a smear of different colors. Wading through these familiar sensations, Okabe found himself sitting on the couch in the future gadget lab. Slumping back to let his lab coat envelop him, he rubbed his forehead in an attempt to make sense of the new timeline he had jumped into. Gradually his fingers slid down to scratch at the stubble around his chin, recalling the events leading to this moment.
In an effort to combat SERN, their lab needed to procure an IBN 5100 computer to crack their code and gain access to their global monitoring system. To do this, they had reached out to a friend who claimed to have one in his family’s possession. He was more than willing to lend the computer to the lab, but under the condition that he would get to send a single message to his mother in the past. The message was simple: “Eat tons of meat to ensure a strong, healthy baby.” Letting their friend believe that the wayward message would give him a more muscular body, Okabe let him send the text under the assumption that it would do little to nothing to alter the timeline. Considering his lingering headache, Okabe was starting to regret his own ignorance.
“Super hack!” Okabe announced through the voice of his obnoxious persona, Hououin Kyouma.
Letting out an annoyed grunt, Daru swiveled his barrel-like body around his chair and tilted up his yellow hat. “It’s ‘hacker’. What do you want now?”
“Do you recall sending a D-mail earlier today for Luka?”
Daru scratched his chin. “No haven’t seen him and it’s not like he could sneak by unnoticed.”
Okabe’s attitude was brought down by his recollection that he was the only one who remembered shifting timelines. “Um, right. Of course.”
Daru sighed and turned back to his computer. “If you’re that worried about him, why don’t you give him a call? You have his number.”
“Aha, an excellent idea,” Okabe replied, flourishing his flip phone despite Daru’s insistence on ignoring him. Dialing in the number he held it up to his face only for his bravado to falter upon hearing the voice on the other side of the line.
“Hello?” asked an unmistakably husky voice.
“Umm, hello. I’m looking for Luka.”
  “Okabe, don’t you recognize me?”
“Er, yes. It’s just been a while since we last spoke on the phone. Would you be willing to meet today at the lab?”
  “I’m free, but…”
  “But…?”
“Would it be alright if we met up at the MayQueen? I’m starving and haven’t eaten anything since breakfast.”
Okabe glanced at his watch to see that it was barely past 10am. “Sure, I’ll meet you there in an hour.”
  “Alright see you then.”
Hanging up the phone, Okabe stepped towards the door only stop upon hearing a series of heavy footsteps approaching him. Moments later, he felt a familiar hand grasp his shoulder. “I take it you want to come too?”
“Of course,” Daru said with a smile. “It’s been a while since I last got to see Faris-chan. Besides, you owe me a couple of meals.”
Okabe shrugged. “Very well. Just try not to order too much. I’d rather not treat a pig.”
“I make no promises,” Daru replied with a smug smile, leading the way out with Okabe following close behind.
Walking down several blocks brought the two of them into the heart of Akihabara. Waiting for them there was the unmistakable storefront of the MayQueen Nyan Nyan maid café. Opening up the door to the sound of a pleasant chime, it was only a matter of seconds before the two of them were greeted by a familiar face.
“Welcome home nya-masters,” Faris said, her pink, twin drill hair bouncing in sync with the fake cat ears perched atop her head.
“Thank you Faris-chan,” Daru replied, his cherubic smile conveying how he felt about returning to his paradise on Earth. “It always brightens my day when I get to see your face.”
“Same to you, nya-master,” Faris replied, striking a pose that perfectly showed off her maid outfit. “Right this way. I already have your table made up for you-nya.”
Walking between customers and employees dressed similarly to Faris, Okabe and Daru made their way to a table in the back. Taking their seats, Okabe scanned over the menus to pick from the plethora of teas and sweets offered. His observations on the increased variety and calorie count of the items in this timeline were put on hold as he noticed a pair of seats opposite of him and Daru.
“Excuse me, I think you gave us one too many chairs,” Okabe spoke to Faris. “There’s only three of us.”
Faris tilted her head. “You’re meeting with Luka, right-nya? I’m just making sure he has the right space to be comfortable-nya.”
“Speaking of,” Daru began, “can you go ahead and give us the usual order? Looks like Luka is running late again.”
“Coming right up nya-masters,” Faris said, bowing to them before walking away.
“Take your time. I’m sure with the crowd and heat outside, he’s bound to be-oh, there he is.”
Okabe turned away from Daru just as he heard another chime of the door. His eyes went wide as he watched the maids at the entrance step aside to greet a customer wedging themselves through the doorway. At first, Okabe didn’t recognize the hefty figure as they barely passed the threshold. However, one glance at the patron’s lavender eyes and feminine face confirmed that it was Luka.
The glacial speed of Luka’s movements as he waddled towards the table gave plenty of time for Okabe to come to terms with his drastic weight gain. Luka’s standard white kimono and red hakama he wore at the shrine were several sizes larger, but still a tight fit for his body. Each heavy step forward threatened to release Luka’s bulging belly from his clothes, its size leading Okabe to believe that he was over 500 pounds in weight. A cursory glance brought the odd realization that Luka’s sagging moobs outsized any of the maids in the restaurant, their girth on par with a pair of half-inflated beach balls.
Upon reaching the table, Luka showed why he needed the two chairs as he sat down on his plump rear. Having part of his chunky butt cheeks still hanging off the sides of the chairs didn’t seem to bother him. Shuffling about to make himself comfortable, Luka brushed away a few errant strands of his silky smooth hair from his chubby face. Looking up to Okabe and giving a perfect view of his three chins, he greeted his friends with the small, warm smile he always had back in the original timeline.
“Hello,” Luka said with a gentle wave of his pudgy hand. “Sorry for taking so long. It takes quite a bit of time to get around town this time of day. Especially when you’re someone my size.”
“Hey, don’t have to remind me,” Daru commented, his barrel-like body eclipsed twice over by Luka’s blubber. “Already went ahead and ordered your food.”
“Thank you very much,” Luka said, a polite bow letting parts of his fat rolls rest against the table. “Not just for the food,” he added, turning his attention to Okabe, “but for inviting me here.”
Okabe shook his head and straightened his posture. “Think nothing of it,” he replied in as dignified a voice he could muster considering the circumstances. “Anything for a fellow lab member. However, I did have an ulterior motive for calling you here today.”
  Luka’s eyes glimmered. “Oh?”
“I have a few questions to ask you. The first of which: do you recall seeing an old computer in your shrine?” Okabe asked, forcing himself to abstain from the more obvious questions for the time being. “It should be marked with the name, IBN 5100.”
Luka paused for a moment to drag his sausage-like fingers down his chins. The surprise upon reaching a moment of clarity was immediately shot down as he slumped forward to have his moobs sag lower against his stomach. “I do remember seeing something like that a few years ago, but…but…”
  “But what?”
“Well, it’s kind of embarrassing, but last I saw it was when I was cleaning out a shed at the shrine. Unfortunately, I…ended up slipping and crushing it beneath my…you know. I’m sorry,” he added, clenching his fingers together.
Okabe let out an exasperated sigh upon realizing he had lost the main reason they had sent Luka’s D-mail. “It’s alright. I’m sure it was just an accident. The lab will find a way to move on without it.”
“It may have been an accident,” Luka continued, “but it’s still my fault that I destroyed it with my body.”
“Stop beating yourself up about it,” Daru said. “Sure, there are some disadvantages to being big guys, but there are just as many, if not more, advantages. For instance…”
Daru smiled and pointed a finger behind Luka to get him to turn around. The despair on Luka’s face was replaced with elation as a group of maids approached the table, each with a platter of sweet treats in hand. Setting down the meager slices of cake and cups of tea in front of Okabe and Daru, the servers got to work setting up the feast of a meal known as Luka’s regular order in this timeline. Everything from frosted cupcakes, ice cream, crepes, and an entire cake were laid out with the utmost care. Thanking the maids for their speedy service, Luka glanced across his variety to dishes. Stopping a lone drop of drool from leaving his lips, he turned back to look at his dining companions.
  “You don’t mind if I…”
“Go right ahead,” Daru answered, helping to ease Luka’s nerves as he dug his fork into his comparatively small meal.
Luka turned towards Okabe. “Are you sure this is okay? I know they give me a discount considering who I am, but it’s still a lot to pay for.”
Okabe looked back and forth between the plethora of expensive looking food and Luka’s expectant face. “Please, go ahead,” Okabe said, encouraging Luka by cutting off a piece of his cake. “Besides, if there’s anything leftover, we can always bring it back to the lab to share with the others.”
Biting down on his piece of cake, the sweetness that graced Okabe’s tongue was further amplified by the look of elation on Luka’s face. However, his pleased mood only lasted until he watched Luka effortlessly devour a slice in a matter of seconds. Okabe could only watch in sheer awe as the once petite and gentle Luka attacked his sweet feast like a rabid beast. Nothing was left untouched by the overweight young man’s fork, nary a crumb or drop of icing escaping his hungry maw. Despite the gluttonous display, Luka ensured that each bite was met with a pleased hum to convey how grateful he was for Okabe treating him.
Before the other two had finished their slices of cake, Luka had left a swath of empty plates in the wake of his appetite. Leaning back in his seat, he dabbed at the icing around his face with a napkin. Massaging his taut belly, he once again glanced towards Okabe. “Aren’t you hungry?”
“Not really,” Okabe replied, having a hard time believing someone could eat so much so fast. “I’m just in the mood for sweets right now.”
“You have to at least try it. The frosting is so delectable. Not to mention the richness of the chocolate on the eclairs mixed with the cream makes it absolutely-“
Luka paused as a loud creak was heard. The sound drew the attention of not only Okabe and Daru, but also from the rest of the patrons in the restaurant. The moment Luka dared to move an inch, the chairs beneath him broke under his weight. Fortunately for him, his fall was cushioned by his blubber. Unfortunately for Faris, she had been standing right behind him with a platter of food.
Getting up from their chairs, Okabe and Daru approached the mess of blubber and destroyed pastries. The impact further desecrated Luka’s food stained outfit by leaving ample rips for part of his doughy flesh to peek out. Face a bright shade of red from his humiliation, Luka tried in vain to roll himself back to his feet. His efforts merely spread about various icings across his outfit and further sunk Faris between his back flab Combining their strength, Daru and Okabe worked together to help Luka into a standing position and give Faris a chance to free herself.
“I’m so sorry!” Luka said, giving the deepest bow his obese form would allow towards Faris.
“It’s alright-nya,” Faris said, keeping herself in character as the other maids helped her up. “I know it wasn’t your fault-nya.”
“At least let me help you clean up. Where’s the nearest broom and-“
Luka was once against stopped by a loud noise, this time a loud ripping sound coming from the back of his pants. Upon realizing that everyone in the café could see his butt crack, his eyes began to well up with tears. It was only once Okabe grasped his hand and started pulling him along did he begin to calm down.
“Come on, the lab isn’t far from here,” Okabe explained as he helped Luka through the crowd of onlookers. “Daru, you handle the bill.”
“What!?” Daru exclaimed, his tirade of insults thrown at Okabe becoming muted as Okabe and Luka made their way onto the street and headed towards the lab.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
“I still don’t quite understand what you’re saying,” Makise Kurisu commented as she flipped about her scarlet red hair. “You’re saying Luka is the way he is because of a D-mail?”
“It’s true,” Okabe replied, only feeling comfortable breaching the subject with Makise while Luka was busy getting changed upstairs in their lab. “The Luka I know, er, knew from my timeline was as skinny as a twig.”
Makise put a finger to her chin. “While it isn’t entirely out of the realm of possibility, I do find it hard to believe that a single message could change a person’s life so drastically.”
“Well, it did and unfortunately we lost the only reason for doing it in the first place.”
A sudden buzz had Okabe pull out his phone. He had received a text message asking, “What happened to the IBN 5100?” Turning his head to the side, he saw the bespectacled Moeka standing a few feet away from him with her eyes shifting back and forth between her phone and him.
“He apparently crushed it while cleaning one day,” he commented, noticing the way Moeka’s shoulders slumped down. “In any case, I think we should acquire his mother’s number again to revert to the original timeline.”
“Why?” Makise asked, stepping aside as Moeka ran out of the shop.
“To retrieve the IBN 5100. Plus, it’s obvious from today’s events that Luka’s life isn’t the most ideal with all of that added weight.”
In response, Makise stepped forward and flicked Okabe on the forehead. “And you’re coming up with conclusion without asking him how he feels, aren’t you?”
“What possible benefit could there be to being so fat?” Okabe asked, rubbing his forehead.
“You still shouldn’t make such drastic life changes for someone without their input,” Makise replied. “Now go upstairs and ask him yourself.”
Okabe opened his mouth to argue but stopped as he recalled the stubborn nature of his lab partner. “Very well,” he said as he climbed the stairs, “but only to prove that I’m right.”
Reaching the door at the top, Okave gave a swift knock. “Are you done getting changed in there?”
“Y-yeah,” Luka replied from the other side. “It’s just a little outside my comfort zone.”
Curiosity overriding what little common sense he had, Okabe pushed open the door. Stepping inside had the unintended effect of sending a shade of deep red over Luka’s chubby cheeks. The blush across Luka’s face was in stark contrast to the bright pink fabric of the Chinese style dress his body was squeezed into. Gold trimming adorned the short sleeves around his blubbery arms and the collar around his thick neck. A bright yellow bow was meticulously placed in the center of his chest to add a bit of flair to his meaty man boobs.
While the outfit had been created by Mayuri on the off chance she could convince Luka to cosplay in it, she had failed to properly account for his size. Parts of the dress left little to the imagination with the way the fabric showed off the various fat rolls comprising his belly. Another problem came in the way the skirt of the dress was a few inches too short to prevent the underside of Luka’s chunky butt cheeks from peeking out every so often.
Luka’s flustered expression mixed with his futile attempts to pull the skirt down over his backside stirred something strange in Okabe’s mind. A strange urge made itself known, bringing up sensations he didn’t think someone of Luka’s size, let alone another man, could bring up. Shaking his head to remind himself who Luka was, Okabe closed the door behind him and sat down on the couch. “Calm down,” he said, trying to break some of the tension. “You look fine.”
“I-if you say so,” Luka said, trying to keep back his anxiety as he crossed his fingers. “Do you have anything to eat? I’m still a little hungry from the café.”
“I think I had some leftover soup in the fridge.”
“Thank you,” Luka said, carefully bowing under the threat of further showing off his plump body.
Watching Luka waddle about to prepare his snack, Okabe sat down on the couch and tried to come up with a way to breach the sensitive topic of Luka’s D-mail. His thought process came to an abrupt halt as he was gently pushed aside by Luka’s hips. Left with only a few inches on the cushions, he turned back to watch Luka dive headfirst into a re-heated bucket of fried chicken.
“You do realize that those are Mayuri’s, right?” Okabe asked.
“Oh,” Luka said, pausing with meat still in his mouth. “I’m sorry. I didn’t think the soup would be enough to fill me up.”
“It’s fine,” Okabe replied with a hand wave. “I’m sure that once we tell Mayuri that you put on the dress she’ll be more than willing to overlook a misplaced meal.” Mere moments after the words left his lips, he watched as Luka effortlessly cleaned the plate. “How are you able to eat like that?”
“I’ve always been like this,” Luka replied, brushing crumbs off of his cheeks. “My mother says its because she ate meat non-stop when she was pregnant with me.”
“Do you resent her for it?” he asked, unable to think of a gentler way to ask.
Luka paused for a moment. “No. I realize that my body comes with certain problems, but its not all bad. My appetite means I get to enjoy delicious food and I’ve even made some extra money through eating contests.”
“Is that what you really want though?” Okabe asked.
“It’s not like I have a say in the matter,” Luka said, heaving himself off the couch. “This is who I am. There’s no way to change it. If I had a say in the matter…I would…like to have a body more equipped to be a better swordfighter.”
  “What makes you say that?”
Luka put his hand against his chest. “I’m not sure. Just something inside of me brings up the idea every once in a while. It’s as if there’s another me who desperately wishes for it to become reality.”
Hearing Luka’s earnest words, Okabe stood up and struck a pose. “What if I told you that I, the great Houoin Kyoma, had the power to do such a thing.”
“Really?” Luka asked, his eyes gleaming with hope.
“Indeed, just say the word and promise that you will follow my directions to the letter.”
Luka paused for a moment, looking back and forth between his own body and Okabe. “Alright, I’ll do it. What do you need me to do?”
Okabe smiled. “To start, I’m going to have to ask you for an old phone number. Specifically, your mother’s.”

no star in isolation [3]
The apple had been a bad decision. Mona can see that, now, but hindsight is always superior to the thoughts of the present. Of course there had been a reason why those apples were untouched, left at the bottom of the crate by the hilchurls.
Even the hilchurls could tell that eating them wasn’t worth it.
They looked alright. But they had tasted dry and mealy, not yet rotten but getting there. The one apple she managed to stomach left a strange filmy residue on her teeth that took ages and a lucky find of mint to scrub off. Mona doesn’t want to know how old those apples were, or what they’d gone through, to get such a texture. But she’d been so very, very hungry and begs aren’t afford to be picky. So she’d eaten the apple down to the core and felt thankful for having that much.
It was free, after all.
But she’s regretting it now. The apple might not have been rotten, but it was unsatisfying. It seemed like enough at the time — enough that she left behind the other two that she’d found, another decision she’s starting to regret now that hunger pangs are making her want to curl over herself. She should’ve eaten the other two, no matter how strange and particularly unpleasant they had felt in her mouth. Mona is hungry again and she doubts there’s going to be much in the way of free, or practically free, food to be found in the areas this close to the vibrant and bustling city of Mondstadt proper.
Rather than satisfying her hunger as she’d hoped, the apple seems to have made it worse. Her stomach seems to now recall how poorly she’s been neglecting it in favor of feeding her mind’s appetites. If only she could live on research alone and the satisfaction that comes from connecting new ideas and theories together!
Even with her wide brimmed hat the early afternoon sun of Mondstadt is already causing Mona to feel sluggish. She quickly ducks behind some buildings, searching out somewhere quiet and shaded where she won’t be spotted.
It wouldn’t do for the Astrologist Mona Megistus to be caught slumped over and curled up in the middle of the day. How unbecoming!
She just needs a moment to sit down and get herself under control and think out her next moves. She can risk fighting a few more hilchurls and hoping their camps have something edible, or foraging in the areas farther out from Mondstadt. That is, if she has the energy for it.
Her next check from The Steambird isn’t due to be deposited into her account for another week. She has rent due the same week, and she also has to pay down the interest on the new set of charts she’s having shipped from Liyue. Mona has some mora set aside for that she was going to have wired over along with the interest fee, but she may have to dip into that to buy whatever Blanche may be willing to liquidate at a sharply discounted price.
Mona’s stomach turns over on itself making her wince a little. Chances are that whatever Mona can afford would be of similar condition as the apple she’d eaten earlier. It would still be better than nothing.
Her stomach lets out an embarrassingly loud rumble. Mona clamps both hands over it, scowling down as though she can bully her body into obedience. What an embarrassing situation for Mona Megistus! But this is the suffering she endures for the sake of her studies.
The sound of a soft chuckle startles Mona into almost falling over as she scrambles to her feet. Her heel catches the edge of her cape as she stands, almost sending her pitching forward before a hand catches the back of her cape and holds her steady.
Mona looks over her shoulder and sees red, red, red.
Oh! Fate is being exceptionally spiteful today.
Master Diluc is leaning out a window she hadn’t noticed was open earlier — partially obscured by some stacked crates — arm stretched out and holding the back of her cape. Seeing that she’s alright now, he lets go. His broad shoulders twist a little as he turns in the window to see her better, brilliant red hair flowing over one shoulder.
Mona quickly straightens up, adjusting her cape and hat before bowing.
“Apologies, Master Diluc for such an unsightly meeting!”
She hadn’t realized that the building she’d taken refuge behind was the Angel’s Share.
Diluc waves his hand, shrugging. “As far as meetings go this is far from the worst.” He leans his elbows on the windowsill, eyes squinting at her, “You’re…Mona? The astrologist?”
Mona nods, entering another bow — this time with a flourish of her cape, “Astrologist Mona Megistus, at your service.”
Her wonderfully proper and elegant bow is ruined by the sound of her stomach letting out another horrifically loud and petulant sounding grumble that Mona attempts to — and definitely fails at — covering up by forcing a laugh.
Diluc’s eyebrows are raised into his bangs.
“Right,” he says slowly, “Well. This is the Angel’s Share. Also at your service. Come inside and eat something before you faint.”
“Oh, no — I — “ Mona stumbles over her current predicament.
“If you faint,” Diluc says, “It looks bad for business. A young lady passed out right next to the Angel’s Share. I’d have the knights swarming the place and asking a million frivolous questions.”
“I appreciate the concern, but at the moment my funds are tied up in…other ventures,” Mona replies. “I haven’t the mora to afford to Angel’s Share.”
Diluc continues to stare at her. He points around the corner.
“We aren’t that pricey. It’s almost empty in here,” he says, either ignoring her embarrassing but wonderfully worded proclamation or not caring, “We open at eleven but we don’t really get many people coming in until ‘round evening.”
And with that he retreats back into the Angel’s Share, leaving Mona to stare at the empty window.
Mona finds herself entering the bar. The cool, dim interior immediately makes her shoulders relax as she sighs in relief. She takes her hat off, holding it to her chest as she looks around. She’s been inside the Angel’s Share before. Usually with Kaeya or Lisa. And usually late into the night when the place is packed with people and the bards are deep into their craft.
Empty and quiet as it is, Mona almost doesn’t recognize the place. She feels a little like an interloper.
Diluc comes from around back, pulling his hair higher up and off of his neck to tie it back. Mona takes a seat at the bar, carefully setting her hat onto the free seat next to her.
“I thought the Angel’s Share doesn’t serve food,” Mona says as she watches Diluc prepare a glass. She’s certainly enough complaints from Kaeya about that very fact.
“Oh?” Diluc hums, “And where did you get that information from?”
“Kaeya,” Mona answers and then grimaces.
Diluc raises an eyebrow at her, “You shouldn’t listen to everything Kaeya says.”
He a tall glass of something blue and cold towards her. Her nose tickles with the smell of mint and her mouth waters a little at the sight of the perfectly golden berries.
“Serving food is relatively new. We’re testing it out for now,” Diluc admits, “During the Windblume festival this year we received many comments regarding the fact that we don’t serve anything to pair with our drinks, while the Cat’s Tail does. We listen to our customer’s feedback and try to address it when we can, especially when it can help us against our competitors.”
Mona sips the drink, toes curling in her boots as the cool, refreshing mint flavor spreads over her body.
“I didn’t realize the Angel’s Share had competitors.” Mona certainly knows that Margaret considers the Cat’s Tail to be a competitor to the Angel’s Share, but she didn’t think it was reciprocal.
Diluc shrugs his shoulders, slowly rolling his sleeves up. “Allergies?”
“Pardon?”
“Do you have any allergies?” Diluc asks.
“No, wait — “
But before Mona can stop him Diluc has already nodded and disappeared into the back room behind the bar. She can only guess that it’s the kitchen area.
Mona groans. She wonders if she can open a tab. She thinks she’s heard Kaeya or Lisa mentioning having a tab here before.
While Mona is mentally rearranging her finances to accommodate for this sudden and rather strange turn of events, Diluc comes out with what looks like a tower of meat. Mona’s eyes pop as he sets it front of her.
It smells amazing and Mona’s stomach agrees because it lets out another gurgle.
“Eat it slowly,” Diluc warns her.
“I — that’s a lot,” Mona says, but she can’t take her eyes off of it. So much meat! Mona already knows it’s going to taste divine, but she’s going to be feeling sluggish and sleepy for hours after. She’ll have to drag herself back to her little house and sleep it off. It’ll be her entire day. And possibly evening. “I — don’t suppose you serve salads.”
Diluc snorts out a laugh, shaking his head and turning away to wipe down another section of the bar.
“I thought as much,” Mona sighs. “I — I meant it when I said I don’t have the funds right now.”
She bites her lip. She’s loathe to use her hard earned skills as an astrologist for such material matters as this, but she’s also equally as reluctant to accept someone else’s pity.
“If you like I can forecast the harvest for you in exchange for your kindness, Master Diluc,” Mona says.
Diluc shakes his head again, “No need. Mondstadt is bountiful with stable seasons. I have no need of such a thing.”
Mona scowls. “A personal fortune, then?”
Diluc shoots her a dry look over his shoulder.
Mona squares her shoulders, crossing her own arms. “I insist on a fair exchange. I do not have mora with me, but I do have my skills as an astrologer. It would not do for me to accept such a kindness without returning it with something of my own.”
The man sighs, turning towards her, “Alright. What do you need to do your work?”
Mona hums, squinting at him. “What’s your constellation?”
“Noctua,” he replies.
Nothing new to be found there, then. Mona knows enough about Diluc Ragnvindr that Noctua isn’t much of a surprise. She doubts he’d be very interested in her telling him about the darkness before the dawn or a wealth of tragedy followed by a boon of grace.
She holds out her hand. “Palm.”
Diluc’s eyebrows raise as he holds his hand out to her.
Mona takes his palm in hers, narrowing her eyes as she examines the lines of his hand. She’s momentarily surprised by the callouses and scars on his hand. She’d expected a wealthy man such as himself to have finger hands — more well cared for. There are even faint traces of burns, a few she can see that splotch and dot Diluc’s pale arm.
Then again, he is a former knight. And he is still a formidable fighter. Mona doubts that Diluc has managed to maintain his figure by overseeing a bar and walking about vineyards while inspecting invoices all day.
Mona traces the air above his hand as she studies the grooves of his palm in the dim lighting of the bar.
“Air hands,” Mona mutters to herself. “With a sunken Apollo. Flat Venus. Imbalanced Mars with a fragmented heart line.”
She sighs, looking up at Diluc. “You need to focus more on the people who are still with you. It’s going to be painful and unpleasant, but that’s what needs to be done or you’ll face regrets for the rest of your days. And I mean more than whatever you already feel.”
She moves her hands away from Diluc’s. “Also you should just tell Kaeya that if he’s hungry you’ll feed him. Even if the Cat’s Tail somehow overtakes the Angel’s Share Kaeya’s still going to come here instead of there. You’ve already got what they don’t have.”
Diluc’s hand remains in place, held tense.
“And that is?” He asks, voice low and teetering between anger and something much more fragile.
Mona looks Diluc straight in the eye. This is her own sort of kindness. Diluc fed a starving astrologer with his own hands, so Mona will return his own sort of hunger with hers.
“A taste of home, Master Diluc,” Mona replies evenly. New to Mondstadt she may be, an unfamiliar with many of the people and the ways their lives have woven together and frayed apart, but there are some things that cannot be hidden from the stars and their reflections.
Brothers raised by the same hand in the same roof — regardless of blood shared — will have similar tells. And while Mona hasn’t spent very much time interacting with Diluc, she’s had plenty of time with Kaeya to spot the similarities.
Diluc’s breath leaves him as he closes his eyes, fingers curling into his palm as he pulls his hand back and turns away from her. Mona takes up her fork and knife, turning to face her own personal challenge of tucking away this tower of meat.
“Thank you,” he says after a moment.
“You are most welcome Master Diluc,” Mona says, “And if you’re taking suggestions for your new menu might I suggest something lighter than a tower of steaks?”

Duchy Conversation 4
[27/03, 4:29 AM GMT - 27/03, 6:13 AM GMT]
[The following transcript details the conversation is between one of the Crown ARG Discord members and Duke on Twitter]
Tumblr media
Donti: “Hi! How was your day?
Its me again :)c
((If its late or youre sleeping dw about responding :p))”
Duke: “Forgive my tardiness, my embroidery was enchanting me so that my ears laid unaware!
How do you do, Donti? It is the Duke speaking. I must say, my sister has quite the opinion of you!”
Donti: “Oh its great to talk to you again Duke :D I hope I left a good impression! Is your embroidery going well?”
Duke: “It is going quite splendid! The Crown truly does spoil us, giving my sister and I such rich-coloured thread. Truly we are fortunate for his generosity and love.”
Donti: “Ohh! Good colors always make embroidery fun! What are you making?”
Duke: “I must ask though - as a sheep yourself why must you graze on such nimble hearts? Wolves are not supposed to concern themselves with the opinions and thoughts of prey such as yourselves but Prince is but a pup, why must you all be so cruel? I am quite interested in the answer, you see, because it is I who saw the tear tracks down faers face and I who heard the drums of despair in this household.”
Tumblr media
Donti: “Oh..
Are you talking about blunt anon?
All of us are very angry at them, whoever they are.
I promise they do not reflect us as a whole.”
Duke: “To answer your previous question however, I am making a rose for Baroness. I do feel horribly for how I was unable to aid her with her spoiled dress so I do hope this gift soothes her and shows that there is no ill will from I to her.”
Donti: “Thats nice! Baroness loves flowers and nature! Thats super thoughtful of you. Im sure she'll love it :D
But back to Prince... Are fae ok? we're worried about faem.”
Duke: “"Blunt anon" is quite a peculiar name I must say. Indeed that is the scoundrel I speak of. It is wonderful to hear that you all are not that way - frankly, if I suspected you were the one to make Prince cry I would have simply neglected to respond, as is customary when one deals with enemies of one's family. Prince is currently recuperating, poor thing. A bleeding heart only leads to death and yet fae still has not learned that yet. I do wish you to send out a warning if you would be so kind - do let anyone know that if they ever treat Duchess in such a matter they will swiftly come to regret it. A gentleman does not revel in violence but she is my most dearest sister.
I thank you for your kind words however, I do indeed hope she enjoys my gift so - do not tell the others but she may be the only one in this family I can truly connect to on an intellectual setting, besides my sister of course.”
Donti: “Ill tell people not to be rude to Duchess. Not that they would.. Im pretty sure they like her :D”
Tumblr media
Donti: “"Blunt anon" came when people would send... Rude asks to people. It was originally just blunt questions. But it escalated to... What happened to Prince :( We're trying to find them, but theres only so much we can do
Oh wait! have other people reached out to you all yet?”
Tumblr media
Donti: “I know some of my good friends have talked to duchess.. But not to you yet!”
Duke: “Ah, indeed people have reached out and only Duchess was there to greet them. It pains me of course but I found myself with activities to do throughout the day. Schooling is still important to Duchess and I so that took up quite a bit of time - do not tell Crown but I was indeed spending time taking in the beauty of ballet instead of working purely on my Latin. Tea time too is an important affair, especially for I, and then it is always important to spend time with ones sister! So alas, you have been the only one I have graced with my thoughts and feelings out of your crowd of sheep.”
Donti: “Hm. I like the name sheep... Its a little kinder than "plebs"
You seems to like a lot of.. Elegant things! (I hope thats the right word) like embroidery and ballet! Where did you learn such refined taste :oc”
Duke: “Where did I learn such refined tastes? They have always been apart of me, you must understand. The Crown helped unlock those parts that I kept buried deep away and help nurture them. Oh such a brute I used to be! No care for the finer things in life, only one-upping my beloved sister. To think I used to slide in the dirt just for a measly point - bah! Truly I am in much debt to the Crown, for without him I still may have been a unruly fool.”
Donti: “... You played sports before you met Crown?”
Duke: “My sister and I both did, yes. It does not do well to dwell on such miserable times, Donti. This is why little one you are still a lamb.”
Tumblr media
Donti: “Oh! If you don't want to talk about it, you dont have to! ^u^ Friends dont force their friends to talk about uncomfortable things!
Hm... But if the plebs are sheep... And I am a lamb... Who is the shepard...?”
Duke: “How sweet! Tell me, little lamb, who do you think the shepherd is? Or if there is one at all?
If you are a little lamb then I must ask, is there a Mary to be found alongside you as well?”
Donti: “Hm.... I think from our perspective the shepherd, (or shepherds in this case) would be our lovely mods :D
But from your point of view? Its most definitely Crown!
Andd.. Im assuming a Mary is a leader... Little lambs follow Mary after all... Hm. A lot of us have shown leadership at some point in time or another! It really depends on the scenario!”
Duke: “Intriguing.
It depends on the scenario you say?”
Donti: “Yep! People take charge depending on whats happening, and sometimes theres no leadership, just us discussing and working through it!
Why do you ask?”
Duke: “When the flocks have gone and left and all there is is the gentle bobbing of the water, who do you trust to save you from drowning? While you thrash and scream and feel yourself weaken who do you look towards for guidance? When the taste of salt kisses the interior of your esophagus whose name is on the tip of your dying tongue?
For I, it is the Crown, as he saved my sister and I from exactly that fate - but who is it for you?”
Tumblr media
Donti: “Hm.. As a "flock" we all support one another.. That way, we can have multiple points of support! One person supporting that many people would be very stressful for that one person, you know”
Duke: “Of course.
Even then in a home all parts play along and join in the symphony but even with that, some are still load-bearing.
Who would be your load-bearing walls? All I ask is for some simple names, you understand. My curiosity is much like a cat, you see. Only satisfaction may truly bring me back.”
Donti: “Hm.. Are you asking for the names of my friends?
Well. There's Jack and Raeva, whom Duchess has spoken with, I think. Llyr, Ren, and Luna are also friends of mine. But I try not to burden them.
They are not so much load bearing pillars, but more of frail walls to shield me from the cold.”
Duke: “The drifting breezes that bring forth frost and tremors truly are such tiresome times. That you have shields is wonderful and it does ease my heart, but I do feel as though I must impart some wisdom else I'd be an unfavourable acquaintance - do try and build yourself a roaring inferno, little sheep.
Have so much fire around yourself that the winds cannot glance your way and even the Grand Archer Yi looks on with fear.”
Donti: “... And what if the fire burns me?
What then?”
Duke: “Do you think yourself unable to control the flames?”
Donti: “...Yes. Flames are temperamental, after all. When the inferno's dried up every last bit of water and eaten all of the wood, what will it turn to?”
Tumblr media
Duke: “You want the answer to be yourself, I can see you reaching for it with an outstretched palm. Here is the truth: you can quell flames easily with just a few words. You can breathe in the ash and let the smoke dissipate. You do not have to be burned.
Ah, but these are just fun matters to think about. Do not dwell on my words too much. I would hate for you to overthink just simple pondering.”
Donti: “...Ill take your words to heart, friend. Even if it's just banter.
How do you know this?”
Duke: “Do not cause yourself concern with such a thing. In case I have caused you to distress then please do take this video as repentance. Isn't it so lovely how she spins?
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qqejv_BQ7Zg”
Donti: “Oh! that is a pretty video.. I wonder how long it took for her to make it so effortless..?
Do you dance?”
Duke: “Such an exquisite form of art. The mastery she has put forth would bring others to shame and ruin. A true professional since birth. I myself do not dance in this way - my sister and I are well versed in the waltz and ballroom dance as is customary for our statuses - but ballet alludes me. Alas, if only that was the direction I chose for my life to go but no matter - I have embroidery, poetry and oil painting to keep me truly green from envy.”
Donti: “Those are very enviable hobbies! I imagine you're skilled at them too! As for ballet... Ive heard that in order to dance that way, one has to go through great pain. I'd hate for you to experience that”
Tumblr media
Duke: “A bit of suffering is always worth the pain if beauty and joy can be received in the end, do you not think?”
Donti: “As long as youre happy, I suppose!
I’m sorry to cut this short, but its getting late for me! And probably for you too ^^
I hope you rest well!”
Duke: “I hope you have humble dreams and a quiet rest. Goodnight, little lamb.”
