Fun fact about my book: I have only three characters that I’ve named intentionally, and the rest were more or less randomly chosen based on historical accuracy and how they sounded in a sentence.
The first is George Norris, which is a reference to my favorite horror movie. I shan’t tell you which—feel free to guess. If you know, you know.
The second, Graham Abernathy, is named after the long running Abernathy family name in the Fallout video game franchise (Abernathy farm in Fallout 4, Abernathy station in Fallout 3, and Old Mister Abernathy in the G.O.A.T exam questionnaire). Anyone who knows me knows I love Fallout, and I needed a memorable Scottish surname for my book. Win-win.
The third, Clement Murphy, is the only character I named after “someone” I knew in real life: a dog. When I worked at a dog hotel, there was a dog very special to me named Murphy—clever, funny, and affable little guy. I’ve since quit the job, haven’t seen him in years, and I miss him dearly. For my character Murphy, I needed an Irish surname that started with an M. It was perfect.
Anyway, here he is. Murphy himself.
