So I mentioned in the tags of this post about Sampo's character design the other day that looking at his splash art made me realize something sneaky about the bg and oh my god I thought I already couldn't possibly love him any more than I already do but this might just prove me wrong JAKSLFJKDLASJFK
So this is maybe? old news by now but I remember when Sampo was first leaked to be in Penacony, some fans were excited saying that it must be Penacony shown in his splash art, and not Belobog. And tbh I was trying to avoid story leaks, so I just kinda ignored it and didn't think about it any further...until I was looking at it to look at his chains.
But I think it IS Belobog shown here because if you look closely, you can see what looks to be a pile of snow in the bg, and even some on the rooftop! And snow isn't present on Penacony.
There's also the huge moon shown behind Sampo. And we never get to see the Belobogian night sky, but even in the hours that are locked in permanent nighttime, Penacony noticably lacks a moon. The buildings all look like they match Belobog architecture, too.
This one is a bit more questionable tbh, but. There's also this long horizontal structure in the bg-
-which I'm not 100% sure what it even is, but it doesn't look like any specific part of Penacony. But it DOES look like the official art of Belobog (everyone say thank you to @/the-astral-express-archive for these pics; dude you're a lifesaver orz)
And if you will notice. The only place up high enough to look down on those structures,
the only thing taller than all the rest of the buildings in Belobog,
is the one establishment set dead center; Qlipoth Fort.
Which means this little asshole is shamelessly, gleefully breaking into the most important government building on the whole planet right in his splash art KFJLJSADKLFJKLDSJ

The thing about mean rivals is that like there's kinda a reason we stop having them the second the plots started getting world-ending in scope and that's because you do not have time to deal with some whiny asshole who you've beaten over and over again's shit when a space chinchilla is about to suffocate everyone in the region
Like if they're a dick to you the entire way through they quickly become all bark and no bite because narratively they're going to keep losing to you, and again progressively destroying the ego of a small child is second to whatever this year's eldritch abomination is (and if they went so far as to help the eldritch abomination it raises questions about why they're friendly enough to battle you in the post game).
So like. It's simpler if they're just nice? And have arcs where the fact that they keep losing to you is the point? Your rival isn't the final boss anymore you don't have to build up to finally being able to defeat them for good (except not really) (I guess Hau in USUM arguably but LBR the final boss is Ultra Necrozma)
Like I guess I get annoyed when people don't acknowledge there's a point to how the rivals have been handled since gen 3. You don't have to like it per se but there's a reason the rivals are like this and it's not just the devs don't want to upset little kids.
The fact that the adults care about your safety on the other hand...

Yeah I'm not done yet.
The thing I keep coming back to is that as much as I'm down to nit-pick things like how characters are written and plot details (and boy are there a whole infestation of nits to pick), what it boils down to is that the basic premise here shouldn't even be happening.
I get they're doing a Thing with Bruce and the after effects of Failsafe and Zur and Insomnia so sure I guess it makes sense to have him acting totally unreasonably. I'm not saying it's a plotline I'm thrilled with, but whatever. This is about everyone else.
You have half a dozen people routinely patrolling in Gotham, who've been doing it for years, who know the city and how it works, who have at least two people who are particularly inclined towards collecting and parsing data for patterns for crime fighting purposes, and none of you noticed anything amiss until Selina called and was like "Hey did you notice my neat new plan I've been doing?"
To that point, in a room full of literal canonical geniuses not a single person has thought to ask any of a dozen very practical questions that occurred to me, a non-genius reader, roughly 10 seconds after reading what The Plan was. Things like, oh, I don't know
How is this going to be a sustainable long-term effort?
For example, what happens when Gotham's wealthiest realize what you're doing and dramatically beef up their security (with tech or with actual people), making it much harder and more dangerous?
Like iirc you, Selina, have definitely had some real dicey situations as a result of your profession, and you're a lot more experienced than these people.
(Hey speaking of which isn't there a whole secret society of Gotham's wealthiest and most powerful who have access to nearly unkillable assassins? Who keeps coming back even though they keep being taken down? You think any of these people might belong to that?)
What happens when the rich folks get pissed and sic the heavily militarized GCPD on you? Don't act like they won't, I'm sure someone's squirreled away stuff from that whole Fear State fiasco.
For that matter, what happens when the costumed villainry figure out who swiped all their henchpeople and decide to object to it, presumably violently?
How many people are we talking here anyway that you're training? How many ultra-wealthy people live in Gotham? How many easily stealable things do they have sitting around to take? (As opposed to, like, other non-liquid fake assets like stocks)
How are you fencing all this anyway? Isn't that a great way to get caught? Or is everyone just stealing cash? (Or did nobody think about the part between "got the valuable thing" and "have usable money from it"?)
How on god's green earth did you ever assume this was going to end in anything other than violence?
Like of course one of your guys got killed. It doesn't matter that you told them no violence, even if they fully buy into that it only takes one panicked reaction when someone's home who shouldn't be, on either side, and there you go.
Look I get what they're trying to do. It's supposed to be a big moral quandary about whether it's right to allow some crime if it decreases other crime, the struggle between Batman being unreasonably violent and unwilling to listen and this new plan of Selina's. First of all that's a weird debate to have when everyone having it is technically a criminal to some degree. And second of all, it doesn't matter, this isn't about the morality, this is about how this plan is fucking dumb and was destined to fall apart even if Batman was still asleep and the fact that any of you are buying it just means there's a gas leak in Gotham somewhere.

I wonder if it's a design choice or the devs themselves can't make up their mind, but why did Solomon's eye colour "change" in NB? The chibi sprites in the OG show his eyes are shades of grey to brown/almost gold-bronze.
The NB chibi sprite shows his eyes to be dark blue and brownish-gold.
Don't even get me started with the cards and merch that can't make up his effing eye colour
To my Solobesties (I'm calling Solomon stans this now. I think we formed a strange kinship after lesson 17 even if we never interact lmao), especially artist solobesties, hats off to you and your service to the community.
My personal HC is kinda a spoiler for uhhhh something I'm writing, but here it is:
"It's just…your eyes are like you: I can't figure them out."
"MC, I-"
"No! No! Solomon, I'm sorry! No…it's not like that, I promise! Look at me, won't you? Please look at me."
So he did. His eyes trembled as he met with yours.
How could he have hidden this part of himself for this long? How could you not notice? How could you forget? How could Father be so cruel to him and you for simply existing?
You traced the corner of his lips with your thumb as you held him by the cheek. He was leaning onto your right hand, unable to maintain his gaze. He was surprisingly bashful. Adorably shy without his facades. But he looked like he would crumble even with a gentle word so you did not say anything.
He looked at you expectantly, then looked away as your gaze burned onto him for too long and muttered, "You can't figure me out?"in almost a whisper, after a long-drawn out silence, weighing in his words, watching your expressions and body language. Afraid, so deathly afraid. You smiled.
"It's like I'm looking at a mirror. Sometimes it's silver, sometimes it's midnight. When you look at the world around you and then look back at me, I feel like you've captured the sky and the oceans in your eyes. It's beautiful."
His face was red all over, even to the tips of his ears. It was such a shame. You haven't even said everything you wanted to say to him yet.
That he was the moon and the stars to your daytime; gold and silver gazes, looking after you from afar in the many branches of realities he couldn't be as honest with you as he was now.
Ah. What will you do without him now? How can you give this up after remembering everything?
You knew it was selfish, but you love him. Both of him. Every part of him just as much as he loved you and every part of you that existed.
But now, you had to say goodbye. Again.
How truly unfair.

I hate reading the eah fandom wiki tbh. some takes/interprets on there are awful & something blatantly untrue like 😭 anyway I was looking at raven's main page & came across this little gem
"the only one" what??? I love Raven but since when was she the only one undertaking actions that directly oppose her destiny.
Hunter is vegetarian & spent his entire summer before legacy year sabotaging his dad's traps (and is, you know, dating Ashlynn). Darling is... well, Darling and is breaking every damsel in distress rule in the book. There's Ashlynn, who doesn't really care for her happily ever after and is dating Hunter against her destiny. And those are people who are conscious of the fact they're going against destiny, and are choosing to be themselves anyway. On the other hand, you have someone like Faybelle who loves cheerhexing, something that doesn't exactly scream Dark Fairy but she still actively wants her destiny.
What makes Raven different isn't that she does things that contradict her destiny but that she doubts the system itself. For someone like Hunter or Darling, fully abandoning their destiny isn't really an viable option since it doesn't occur to them Grimm isn't telling the truth. For Raven, is does.
She's in a unique position where she's one of the very few to know the Evil Queen isn't dead, which is what Grimm says happened to the general public, but rather trapped in the mirror prison. She knows Grimm has lied and isn't always truthful, the possibility that he's done so more than once isn't impossible. This doubt (and general dislike of her destiny) leads her to something more powerful; hope. Raven is again one of the few people who know about Bella Sister's unsigned page. Even though Grimm does everything in his power to squash her hope, it survives in a gnat, an inconsistency and what Giles tells her (through translated riddlish)
She's operating on more information that her classmates are and because of that is aware of that other possibility. She doesn't have any real proof or certainty about what will happen, but it's enough for her. She's willing to take that leap of faith, for that chance to be herself without compromise. That's why she doesn't sign.

Update on me watching the Dead Boy Detectives :) i already watched 4 out of 6 episodes so far, so be ready there's A LOT of thoughts.
First of all, i love it. Next
• 1. ALL OF THEM ARE SO PRETTYYY
• LIKE ALL FOUR
• I'm living my best pan life
• CHARLES' EYES, HIS FACIAL EXPRESSIONS???
• HE IS SO BABYGIRL
• I love his eyebrows
• He is veryveryvery pretty
• And Edwin is so handsome, but most importantly-
• EDWIN IS SO P I S S Y
• I LOVE THAT FOR HIM
• JSKSJSK he is so MEAN
• And JEALOUS
• I love his body language💅✨️
• Boy you are GAY gay
• Like he is so arrogant with that sparkle of gay that makes me absolutely love seeing him talk and move
• I also love his boots haha
• Crystal is gorgeous and so is Niko i love them
• The moment when they first saw each other and there were bunch of beautiful colours and magic SENT ME
• Because i thought it was just her normal reaction to her
• Like love from the first sight
• And i literally thought THAT'S THE REAL GAY EXPERIENCE
• I kinda ship them...and Charles x Edwin...but Crystal and Charles are cute too
• And i love the friendship between Edwin and Niko
• Two weirdos (affectionate)
• So i kinda wish they would end up with a polyamory??
• Probably because i always think that's the best answer for love triangles (squares)
• I'm not sure if it's possible in this show, cause being queer might be okay for it, but some companies draw the line at polygamy
• Especially for the main characters
• They kinda give the Mystery Inc vibes from Scooby doo haha
• Just like in the meme Edwin says: "Hi this is my boyfriend Charles and this is his girlfriend Crystal and that's her girlfriend Niko..."
• That would be perfect bc I'm not ready to deside what ship i like the most
• I guess I'll have to wait and see maybe something will change
• Love Niko's style and i relate to her oddness and frivolity(?)
• I also relate with Edwin i don't know why 😂😭 he is just so my type of a character
• I'm this 🤏 far away from catching a crush on all of the main characters
2.
• Everytime there is something colorful going on i immediately think "oh?? Delirium???"
• But no Delirium so far :((
• DEATHHH MY QUEEN
• I THINK there will be Despair but I'm not sure
• I read somewhere that The Cat King is a child of Desire and omg you have your parent's eyesss
• The Cat King is so funny, i know it's sad that he almosy traumatized that poor virgin Edwin but i wasn't expecting anything like this AT ALL so it was funny
3.
• ALSO
• THEY HAVE BEEN FRIENDS FOR 30 YEARS
• Do we have to wait another 30 for them to start realizing they like-like eachother??
• So in the Neil Gaimanverse we'll have the perfect 60/600/6000 years of pining
• What are they are doing to me *sigh*
• Oh to be a gay men-looking creatures written by Neil, that don't realize they love each other for a number that is divided by 30, brown and black, one is old-fashioned and doesn't understand a thing about his feelings, another reckless and so in love, one wears leather another blazers...
I'm running out of ideas, if I'll remember anything more I'll make part two and part three will be about the last episodes. And probably something like thoughts of me before watching vs me after. In conclusion, they are all are painfully good looking and the show itself is very interesting :)
