#i should really try thinking a bit more about Anakin's padawan days

Hey have a fun AU I came up with the other day after reading a bunch of fics with related tropes
It's a raised Sith AU. Anakin was found by Sidious well before he was found by Qui-Gon. He was raised by the Sith, is a classically horrible monster stalking about TCW to be Vader (mask and all, just as an intimidation factor instead of life support) while Ventress and Grievous and Dooku do their own things in a different section of the war. He's got a Really Fucking Weird dynamic with Obi-Wan, mostly attempting to kill him etc.
At some point, Palpatine allows Anakin and Padme to meet. The romance that blooms is one that Sheev decides is useful to him, so he lets it happen.*
Padme gets pregnant. Sidious arranges for her death. Anakin loses his entire shit and tries to kill Sidious. Obi-Wan is off trying to save Padme, unaware of Anakin getting his remaining limbs cut off by his this-universe Master. (This is important, because Anakin does remember Obi-Wan trying to save Padme.)
So we have Anakin, who was raised Sith, and just lost the only things that have mattered to him since his mom died when he was a kid, and Palpatine has pushed him further into the Dark than he ever has. Anakin… knows more about the Sith Secrets in this universe.
Anakin finds a Sithly Time Machine. Maybe on Malachor. There's an owl? Whatever.
Anakin, someone who's been Vader for the vast majority of his life, wakes up at age nine. Maybe even younger, like six. His mother is already dead at Sidious's hands. He's already roommates with Maul. He's already being trained as a baby Sith.
Anakin, being a 20 year old war veteran, is much better at escaping than Sidious has planned for. He reprograms a medical droid to take out his slave chip, steals a ship, etc. All the stuff that Maul wasn't very good at, and Anakin was too young for, so Sidious didn't have the preventative measures in place for yet.
Anakin heads for the one place and person he thinks he can trust: Obi-Wan Kenobi.
(Obi-Wan is still a padawan. But this Baby Sith just declared him Adoptive Teen Dad, so.)
@lizasweetling (all indented bits from here will be hers):
Because Sith. Bad for mental health of the user and generally bad for their environs But also baby. And if hes dragging Maul around no doubt the dude is constantly himself confused why he is here Like yeah, Sidious sucked, and this 6-9yo is way powerful and knowledgeable on the dark side (?????) But why are we going to the Jedi? And not even trying to kill them apparently?????
Anakin is very much being affected by Baby Brain and Baby Endocrine System. He cries a lot more than he should.
I WASN'T THINKING OF HIM BRINGING MAUL BUT YEAH. THAT'S. THAT'S A POSSIBILITY.
Jedi Council trying to decide if this is more "Adult Sith got shrunk" or "child got evil man's memories." Vader wants to know why it even MATTERS. (He didn't actually plan on telling them, but he has very little self control right now.)
The first Good Act he does is tell them where to find Ventress and Ky. (In the original timeline, he viewed Ventress as like. Cool older cousin.)
Vader's right, that distinction does not matter Aaaw, she deserves that, that's nice Maybe she will be like 20% less homocidally traumatized
Anakin is furious when Maul and Obi-Wan pick him up under one arm like a package. He is a GROWN MAN he is an ADULT he was a SITH LORD and about to be a FATHER, he is TOO OLD FOR THIS.
They point out that he is Baby.
😂 sorry lord of evil, you're too baby, have a nap and maybe your feel better. Assuming the crisis on Naboo is still happening, and as such the vote of no confidence is right now, it might be a great time to report Sidious as a Sith lord. Post-escape from Sidious, both he and Maul definitely will need a nap. It's that kinda place.
Oh, it's probably at least a year before. Anakin keeps trying to sneak off to kill the man himself, but the Jedi are more ready for his Sneaking than Mustafar was, so he keeps getting caught before he can reach the Senate.
At one point he tries to just CHARGE the place and you get Mace and Obi-Wan sprinting after him. The News captures videos of this very small child getting chased by an older Padawan and a Master and they are mostly yelling for him to PUT DOWN THE SABER.
(Sidious might see him but what's he going to do? Might cause too many problems for Sidious to be aware of Anakin's presence with the Jedi, though. Best not.)
It's probably more expensive on average to hire an assassin on a child, just in general But on a jedi youngling??? If he can even find someone to do that, it will be so very, ridiculously expensive And likely 70%+ upfront payments
Ahsoka definitely seeks him out. Toddler baby child. She adores him for reasons unclear to anyone and everyone.
!!! Baby has baby!! Vader's probably a little thrown by this. Been a while subjectively since someone just loved him. And not even for like, a reason. Baby Vader coerced into sitting obediently for nap by tired kiddo: [The council liked that]
The number of times that vader could only be convinced to nap by Obi-Wan grabbing him, caging him in his own lap, and forced to Sit Quietly until he just fell asleep like that...
He has things to do, he's not tired 😡😡😡💢 (He's 9. Distances are between 150 and 195% longer when measured with steps, he's hungry (subjectively) all the time, and has only middling coordination He so is too tired)
Anakin doesn't know Qui-Gon at all but he keeps getting stuffed into the man's top because he's just. Small enough to fit.
Like the bomb boobs gif, but it's a small child.
the indignity
You just. You can't let him get too self-important.
Vader is Disgusted every time the pediatric healers try to talk down to him like they do to other 6yos.
The difference between this and other "Vader goes back in time to the Jedi" AUs (like Force of Many Sights) is that this Vader has never been a Jedi, and doesn't know anything about them except how they fight when he's trying to kill their friends.
Also Maul's there.
Because even he has a hard time taking himself seriously when hes so easy to manhandle Rest of the time; I am fear, I am death personified As luggage child: I am so small. The tiniest. I crave violence He's probably very annoyed they keep taking away his saber And hey! Obi gets practice not losing his! Woooo!
Tumblr media
Something something Anakin clinging to Maul's back (piggy back ride) and chewing on his head or something stupid like that. Perfect height for head biting.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
You know, the classic anime head bite
Maul probably has been nominally talked into this because this 9yo is a powerful darksider But he is also the world's most annoying tiny kid Maul would've thought his phenotype would make him immune to this ridiculousness He was wrong At least the teeth are a bit less pointy than his other little brothers'? Appreciating the little things
tfw your unwanted little brother drags you to what you think is a cult but actually they're way less culty than your last two places so you just stick around to keep an eye on the little shit
Anyway. ObiMaul for this one.
They're peers They're tired They just want to sit down and not have to chase this weird little murder child They have a lot in common 😊
They are all just a little bit stupid, I love them.
Qui-Gon is a Cool Mom (throws condoms at them and books it).
Yeah, that's about as much involvement as would be appreciated They probably did a lot of sparring before the tension broke Which did not relieve said tension, generally made it worse (Competence, athleticism, sweat-) Vader is confused, but probably doesn't mind He's probably glad they're distracting each other from stopping assassinating a certain someone (Which- that is 9yo hubris. He would need help to do that)
I still can't decide where on 6yo-9yo he falls but somewhere in there
Babies means easier hiding in shirt, teenie Ahsoka, and longer for him to convince the Jedi council to do a Sith hunt before the Naboo situation
Also longer for Maul and Obi-Wan to faff about being all Tension
* Vaguely inspired by the backstory of Rulebreaker/Wildheart, which is great but significantly more of a romance fic than this.

Thank you to Rio and Cilantro for inspiring this and also being there as I wrote it. You guys are the best!

All you can think about is him. Him. With those water beads running down that sinfully muscular bare chest, that tiny white towel covering his waist, just barely disguising the girth of his member, those muscular legs that could crush you in bed..maker, what is wrong with you? You quickly turn to leave the fresher, of course, you didn’t mean to walk in on him. You’re just his padawan, you’re just his student. You’re nothing more. You can’t have feelings, you’re a Jedi. What would the other padawans think? What would they think of you, having these thoughts about your master, the Anakin Skywalker, about the man supposed to be training you? You look around as you push the door of the fresher open, the pink sky of some alien planet other than Coruscant gleaming above. You pause.
Sweet. Like flowers. Like warmth, straight to your core, you can feel your heartbeat in your center, pounding away. God, your panties are so slick they’re borderline soaked. There’s some kind of pollen in the air, and you lift your hand towards it. The gentle green grains settle on your palm, bright against the sky, vibrant against your skin. Is this some plant’s pollen? Your inner academic calls to you, ask your master! He’d know–
That’s right. Your naked master, with his massive muscles, bare less than ten feet from you, you could turn at any moment and see him again, surely it wouldn’t hurt, right? Surely it wouldn’t hurt to see him fresh out of a hot, steamy shower, drying that delicious sandy blonde hair of his, removing that towel from his waist to change, that rippling scar against his perfect face, surely it wouldn’t…
No.
You’re a jedi. You’re soon to be a knight. Your whole life, you have studied and prepared, prepared to fight for the Republic, prepared to die for the cause you were born with. You cannot lose your way. The code is life. No attachments, the code reads out, clearer than a Nabooian summer day. No attachments. Not to your master, not to your life, not to the things you find..so deliciously attractive.
You shake your head, trying to clear it again, and continue walking..before a warm, strong, perfectly tanned hand wraps around your waist, pulling you backwards, further, further, and you’re suddenly in the fresher, the door sliding shut silently in front of you, and you’re pressed into the wall, steel and ice cold against your cheek, and the hand around your middle begins to fiddle with the wraps holding your robe together. “You should really keep your thoughts to yourself, padawan.” His voice is so perfectly baritone, so perfectly deep against your ear, the hot breath of his voice whispering past your ear and sending earthquakes to your core. You can see out of the corner of your eye, more of that strange green pollen filtering in through the air vents, and his other hand presses your face further into the wall, icey and so, so hot, the perfect juxtaposition that rocks your mind.
“Fuck the code.” He finally finishes pulling the straps of your robes apart, sliding them down your shoulders, revealing more and more of your skin until all that is left is your chest wrap and underwear. His hand slides up from pinning your head, and it coils itself into your hair before twisting and gripping and pulling. Maker, his blue eyes burn themselves into your retinas, filled with a fire you’ve never seen before, filled with a light that you never imagined you’d be able to experience. It’s feral. Inhuman, with darkness and desire in his eyes, with those slightly pointed canines of his glinting in the light, as he runs his tongue across his lips.
“Maker, you’re gorgeous. You have no kriffing idea how long I’ve wanted to do this.” He runs his hand up your chest, before running his thumb along your bottom lip and pushing. Two of his fingers are in your mouth, and you immediately begin to wet them with your tongue. They taste like warmth, gunsmoke, like a thousand memories left unsaid, like a thousand salty tears caught. Maker, he tastes absolutely divine.
He pulls them out, a slight string of saliva connecting his fingers to your lips, and he looks down before growling at the sight of your still-covered core. He flicks his hand, and the underwear rips to shreds.
The back of your mind laments at the loss of a nice pair of undergarments, but it’s quickly replaced with a blazing hot need as he lowers his fingers, closer, closer, Maker they’re right there, and..he stops.
“Padawan..we shouldn’t do this.” His voice, no longer animal and rumbling, less a tsunami and more a gentle entering tide, moves away from your ear.
“Master, I…” Your voice, reduced to the tiniest little whine, sounds strangely far from your ears.
“It’s the pollen. My master, Obi-Wan, had told me about pollens on certain planets that could negatively affect how a soldier performs, and even affect us Jedi, but...I didn’t know this would be what he meant.” His hands start to slide away from you, but before you think, your hands secure themselves around his, keeping him pressed against you, wrapped around you.
“P-please. Don’t-don’t..don’t let go..” You whimper out, and he growls, deep in his chest and throat. You can see that green pollen swirling in the air again, and it flows into your nose, down your throat, into your lungs before you can even think. Maker, you’re so hot. You’re burning up, like someone tossed you into a volcano and the only escape is your master absolutely ruining you. It doesn’t look like it’s affecting him any less, you can feel something absolutely rock hard pressing into your back, right into the triangle bone below your spine, just above your ass.
“P-Padawan. We-we really..fuck…oh, fuck the code..” He snarls into your ear, re-coiling his hand into your hair, pulling back, and his fingers quickly find your entrance before pushing.
Oh maker, you’re so full. The stretch of his thick fingers is almost painful, and he pushes further, further, you’re so full, you can’t think, can’t breathe, can’t see, oh maker. And then he begins to rub, his thumb pressing right on your clit.
You feel like you’re out of the galaxy. His fingers are pressing right against the spot that makes you cry, that makes you sob with need, that makes you moan his name as if it’s a prayer to the only maker you’ve ever needed to believe in. Maker, his fingers are too big, there’s no way they’re going to fit, you feel so tight.
And then it spreads. The tingling, flickering like fire all over your body, down to the tips of your fingers, up your hands, up your arms, closer and closer to your core, you feel like you’re running toward a cliff edge, sprinting closer, closer, closer, the band in your stomach tightening, tightening, and then you jump.
Maker, it’s like you’re flying, for a moment, and then you explode.
Like electricity soaring out from an arc tower, like a volcano erupting across a massive landscape, fusion at the seismic level, the white-hot pleasure races through your body, crackling and rushing, like a massive hurricane smashing into the dams and barriers of your Jedi core. Falling, falling, falling for what feels like an eternity, as wave after wave after wave breaks through you, crushing you, shockwaves out across the room, the base, the planet, the whole universe. You’re alive. Like the whole of the force flows through you, you’re alive. So, so, beautifully present, like the whole of the Jedi Council could burst in at any moment and it wouldn’t affect how happy you are. The pleasure is indescribable, spreading from his fingers through you, to the whole world. Your heart beats to the drum of your shocks, loving and so, so aware yet unaware. His fingers slow, you can tell from somewhere, and the volcano finally starts to cool.
You finally feel yourself starting to return to your body, your whole body cooling, breathing, maker, you’ve never felt so alive.
“That was gorgeous. You have no idea how beautiful your force signature was, Padawan.” He purrs into your ear, and you feel your cheeks redden impossibly further. He removes his fingers, and they’re covered in your clear, salty juices. He brings them up to his lips, before licking. He licks his fingers clean, before smiling and pulling you back from the wall, twisting you to face him, and finally releasing you
Jellylegged, you collapse into the wall, sliding down, and you look up at him. Maker, he’s so perfect. Rock hard, his member is huge. He crouches down to eye level, before running his thumb softly across your cheek.
“My padawan. Meet me tonight in the bunks. Don’t be seen.” He smiles that fanged smile, sending another shock to your blissfully used core.
“Y-y..yes, master.” You giggle out, and he shakes his head chuckling.
“Just one orgasm, and you’re already reduced to a blubbering mess? What will I ever do with you, beautiful?” He presses his lips to your forehead, and for the first time in decades, you feel loved.
He starts to pull your robes back around you, affixing them and tying their straps, before helping you slowly stand. He runs his hand through his hand, and aside from the occasional green pollenite specks, he looks..normal. He pulls his robes and armor on, already back to the honorable and powerful Jedi Knight that padawans and separatists alike fear.
You, on the other hand, are nowhere near that. Your hair is everywhere, your face flushed, your clothes still messy and lopsided, and your eyes are…so glassy.
“Clean yourself up, Padawan. I need to go make sure Jesse hasn’t killed someone yet.” He turns to leave, before looking back at you one last time, those gorgeous blue eyes leaving you so, so hungry for more.

hello miss kit! loving all your responses to the asks everyone got such interesting thoughts!! I know you love all your children equally but which gffa au do you love just a bit more than the others? (excluding counselling au lol)
what a hard ask oof
good thing i have a glass of wine and a lot of time on my hands! so i just rated all my fics set in the gffa
(i had a LOT of time on my hands)
a fish hook, an open eye: 7/10 - it's hardly set in the gffa at all tbh i love earnest evil puppy anakin & conniving obi-wan who gets more than he bargained for. needed more cody, tbh a more perfect union: 10/10 - i'm biased obviously cause i just finished this fic so it's fresh on my mind but it was so fun to write! i loved trying to balance the humor and the seriousness and the council scene (both of them!) was just so great amort & amor: 6/10 - i just think anakin would probably not be that cool about obi-wan getting another padawan lol but it's fluffy and cute and i'm glad i wrote it! bed warden, bed warmer: 8/10 - obi-wan would be the worst patient in the history of the world. he's such an asshole which i love writing but he's also so clearly very smitten with anakin. he's just going to be an asshole about it building a boat with no blueprints: 7/10 - i know yall dont know how it ends but i know how it ends ;) burn every bridge but please leave me a boat: 6/10 - my first attempt at reverse master&padawan au which is a dynamic i really love. i would rate this fic higher, but i wish i had started it in a different place and relied less on mental flashbacks but a number: 9/10 - happy almost one year to this fic! i had to get someone to cheer-read this fic for me because i was worried that i was being too hard on aging/obi-wan's body falling apart and anakin feeling old and tired at age 40 but then i saw a bunch of gifs of obi-wan jumping off stuff and i was like yeah his body probably does feel like it's falling apart foolproof, foolhardy: 10/10 - i literally have not has so much fun with a cliffhanger since i last updated time & tide. no notes, just stupid oblivious padawan obi-wan trying to seduce master skywalker into his bed, unaware that master skywalker would crawl over burning coals to kiss his hand. hand in unlovable hand: 6/10 - not my favorite adaptation from tumblr fic to ao3 fic - i used too much of the original ficlet and always feels clunky to me. i do like sith vader manipulating obi-wan into falling!! yes baby, you twist and ruin that jedi master and make him yours haunt me then: 8/10 - i love non-sequential storytelling and also padmé loving anakin so much that she sacrifices a child to bring him back only for him to come back solely to live and breathe for obi-wan hold me fast or kill me quick: 3/10 - would be a higher rating but this fic haunts me. i want to finish her someday and until i do i will not rest peacefully at night. get these stupid soulmates to communicate! i pray the same, but my gods have changed: 10/10 - i love writing this fic, i love watching the polls as you guys vote for what should happen next, i love catty sith obi-wan working to seduce senator skywalker because he's hot lol but it's the voting aspect that makes this fic a 10/10 for me if you love me, let it remain unnamed: 9/10 - it surprised me how much i loved writing set as an actual character. one day i want to explore the universe that set's in, where he meets his own kenobi and falls in love with him. i really liked the outsider perspective on how absolutely wild obi-wan and anakin are - especially since the main scenario is that they're having a threesome, and obi-wan and anakin have to?? share?? each other? with someone else? unlikely! let’s get your fingers tangled in my hair: 6/10 - i wrote this in a fever state; it was fun and i enjoy a king kenobi as much as the next gal! do i actually think anakin could last that long without talking? no not the way i usually write him lol like saints, like monsters: 8/10 - i love the way the chapters are set up, with them going back and forth between the actual plot and the worst parts and darkest moments of the recovery lost to a sea of troubles: 7/10 - it will never not be funny to me that this fic is in response to the prompt "knocking on the wrong door". it could have been anythinggg. it became this instead, featuring light stockholm syndrome and an obessive, evil obi-wan

Mini Matchmakers
Anakin Skywalker/Fem!Reader
Words: 2,075
Summary: The world is changing, and you can't help the growing affection you feel for your friend and fellow Jedi. You would never say anything to him on your own, but thankfully a certain set of twins take matters into their own hands.
Request by anonymous: I saw you were taking SW requests, so what about an Anakin fic where Luke and Leia try to get him and a fem!reader together? Maybe in an AU where he doesn't fall to the dark side but Padme still passes? I hope this wasn't too specific and thank you in advance!
Note: hi anon!! thank you for requesting and i hope you like it :) the fic is set in an AU with no order 66 and the jedi have reformed to allow romantic attachments, but padmé died in childbirth. luke and leia are about 9 here.

Tumblr media
You were waiting in the room for the younglings to arrive when the commotion started, and as you turned to see who had just come through the door, it was not a surprise to find out that Luke and Leia Skywalker were the source of the noise. Although not yet traditional padawans, those two were smarter than all the other younglings you taught, and you knew they were going to be trouble for whoever decided to take them on. They were dragging their father with them, and you fought back a smile as you watched Anakin pretend to be overpowered by his children. “Master L/N!” Leia said brightly. “I found someone to help out when we go visit the Senate!”
You desperately tried not to laugh, raising an eyebrow at the twins. “Has your dad actually agreed to help, or did you make that decision for him?” You were going to be taking their group of younglings on a trip to the Senate in a week, thanks to an invitation from Chancellor Organa, and it would not only be a fun outing for the soon-to-be padawans, but you would get to show them a little bit of how the Republic functioned. You had even arranged a meeting with a few of the Senators that you have gotten to know over the years, and everyone was very exited to go. Last time you had seen them, you had mentioned that you were going to ask a few Jedi to help out that day to make things easier for everyone, but you hadn’t expected Luke and Leia to take matters into their own hands.
“I told them that if you needed help I would be more than happy to come along,” Anakin said, standing up straighter as Luke and Leia let go of him. “But I also told them we needed to ask you first.”
“You’re more than welcome,” you said brightly, finally letting yourself laugh at the situation, and you could see the twins’ smile grow as you spoke.
“Master Obi-Wan can come too!” Leia added.
Anakin looked down at his daughter. “Did you ask Obi-Wan already?”
Luke shook his head. “No, but we should go now!”
“Wait you two,” you called out as they started to leave, an amused expression on your face. “Aren’t you forgetting something?”
“What?” Leia asked, then turned around to see Anakin. “Oh, right.”
But just as they began to pull their father back towards the door, you spoke again. “Not exactly,” you said, really failing to keep the laughter away at this point. “You have a lesson now, don’t you?”
Anakin just shook his head as Luke and Leia stopped dragging him and instead walked further into the room, no doubt going to pick out the training remotes and lightsabers they would be using today before any of the other students arrived. The adoration was clear on his face as he looked at his children, and you were infinitely glad that the Jedi Order had reformed after Palpatine’s plot had been uncovered and taken care of, because it was clear how much he loved them and you couldn’t imagine a world in which he does not see them grow up. “I’m so sorry about those two,” he said softly.
You shook your head. “Don’t be, they make my life much more interesting,” you said. “Even if they are little troublemakers sometimes.”
“They must be on their best behavior around you, because I think they’re little troublemakers all the time,” he said, a smile crossing his face.
“Well, based on the way you were as a padawan, are you really surprised?”
He laughed at your remark, nodding in silent agreement. The two of you were around the same age, and you had spent some time training together when either your master or Obi-Wan had been called away for important meetings or the occasional top secret mission. Once the war broke out you didn’t see too much of him, but now that you were teaching Luke and Leia, you were slowly reconnecting with your favorite childhood friend, as well as fighting back a wicked crush on him.
The smile on his face made you feel warm and fuzzy inside, but you tried to push those thoughts down before they could really fester. Despite the reforms the Jedi Order went through, and the changed attitudes towards romantic attachments (viewing them as tools of the Force rather than dangerous points of no return), it felt wrong to think of Anakin in that way. You didn’t know much about his relationship with Padmé, but you knew that her death was hard for him. And no matter what you felt for him, who were you to tell him whether or not to move on because of your growing affection? Friendship would have to be enough for you, and there was no arguing it.
You continued to speak quietly with Anakin until the other student began to shuffle into the room, and he finally bid you goodbye, promising to come get Luke and Leia when the lesson was over. You tried to hide your dopey smile as you began speaking to the group of younglings, but from the look Leia gave you, you probably weren’t that successful about it.
***
After that day, it seemed that you were running into Anakin every other moment. Meals, lessons, meditations, you name it, he was there. You weren’t complaining in any way, and you sometimes let yourself dream he felt the same way about you that you felt about him. What you soon figured out though, was that those apparent coincidences were in fact not coincidences at all, but rather an elaborate plan by a pair of very intelligent nine year olds.
You didn’t notice anything different about the twins at first, but soon the fact that they had shown a remarkable interest in your personal schedule could no longer be ignored. You could never prove that Luke and Leia had anything to do with the sudden influx of Anakin encounters you had over the past few days, so you never brought it up, pretending to be blind to their charades and attempts to push you and their father together and enjoying the time you got to spend with him because of their meddling.
You wondered what spurred this on, was it the way you laughed together that one day? Did he talk about you when you weren’t there? Did Obi-Wan put them up to this as an elaborate joke? You definitely didn’t know how to react to the situation you were finding yourself in, but you tried to keep your feelings to yourself just in case you were reading the situation wrong.
On the day of your trip to the Senate, Anakin and Obi-Wan were both there to help. They had no qualms about stepping up and guiding some of the children around as you walked behind the group and made sure no one got lost, and you would never admit it out loud, but you were glad that Luke and Leia stepped in and found helpers for you. Because you spent so much time working with younglings, you weren’t too familiar with the labyrinth of hallways that made up the Senate Chambers, and you had a sneaking suspicion that this trip wouldn’t have been nearly as entertaining as it was if someone like Master Luminara was helping you keep all the younglings in line.
Leia was sitting atop Anakin’s shoulders for the entire tour, and Luke was sitting on Obi-Wan’s. It was almost comical to see the two Jedi, often represented to citizens of the Republic as fearless war heroes and powerful warriors, wander around the Senate building with a giggling child on each of their shoulders. All the children were enjoying themselves, practically bouncing with excitement as the tour ended and they got to sit with Chancellor Organa and Senator Mothma and ask them whatever they wanted.
You held back a yawn as you stepped out of the room, this day had been quite exciting already. It was nice to get out, but it definitely was more stressful to be responsible for twenty five younglings outside of the safe walls of the Jedi Temple, even though you had help. Despite the war being over and Palpatine no longer a threat, there were still dangers to watch out for, and you definitely did not want to be the Jedi that lost a youngling in the Senate building.
You didn’t hear the door open after you, so when Anakin gently placed his hand on your shoulder, it was startling for a moment. “Are you alright?” he asked.
“Yeah, just a little tired,” you said. “Sorry if I worried you.”
There was a look on his face you couldn’t quite decipher, and he just shook his head. “Leia told me I should go and check on you,” he said. “I was worried she knew something I didn’t.”
You shook your head as a small smile crossed your face, and you were now sure that the twins had been behind your recent “accidental” meetings with Anakin. “I sometimes think she knows things I don’t,” you responded, looking right into his eyes. They were warm and kind, and you wanted nothing more than to get lost in them. “Because her and Luke have been taking a special interest in my personal schedule lately.”
He laughed. “Mine too. I think they’re trying to tell me something.”
That sentence piqued your interest. You had thought they were trying to tell you something, not the other way around. “Oh yeah?” you asked quietly, wondering what he would say next. “What are they trying to tell you?”
“That I need to hurry up and ask you out, because I can’t keep staring at you like a lovesick tooka.”
You nearly choked on air as you registered his words, that was definitely not what you were expecting him to say. Maybe that was what you would expect Leia to say to you, but not Anakin. “Really?” you said, trying desperately to keep your cool.
“You can’t tell me you haven’t noticed,” he said, reaching down to take your hand. “I know I’m a little out of practice, but I’ve been told I’m anything but subtle.”
“I kept telling myself I was imagining things, that I was crazy for thinking you felt that way,” you said, really hoping this wasn’t a dream. “I didn’t want to get my hopes up.”
“I didn’t think you felt the same way,” he said softly. “I can’t believe my own children picked up on this better than I did.”
You couldn’t help the little giggles that escaped you. “Well, I for one am glad they decided to take matters into their own hands.”
“Don’t ever tell them that,” Anakin said, leaning in a little bit closer.
“Why? You don’t want them to know they succeeded?”
“I love Luke and Leia, but they’re already mischievous enough.”
You couldn’t help the burst of bright laughter that escaped you at his words. “I think you’re right about that.”
It felt like the entire galaxy stopped as the two of you stared at each other, and he finally broke the silence, his voice was barely above a whisper and his gaze flickering down to your lips. “Can I kiss you?”
You couldn’t help the way your body reacted after you breathed a whispered “yes,” and the way you melted into the kiss when his lips finally landed on yours. You barely even registered the way that his hand had left yours in favor of resting on your waist, and he pulled you close as he deepened the kiss.
For a fleeting moment, it seemed like nothing would get in the way of this perfect moment, until the door behind you opened, and you heard the sound of a certain nine year old shouting with glee. “LUKE! GUESS WHAT-” You and Anakin pulled apart almost instantly, turning around to try and catch Leia before she told the whole class what she had caught you and her father doing, but it was no use, and you were just thankful that most of the other people around didn’t care about this new relationship development.
Emphasis on most though, because Obi-Wan’s knowing smile and little remarks on the ride back to the temple were almost unbearable, but the memory of Anakin’s lips on yours made all the teasing worth it.

The rays of the sun above glowed warm against your skin as you joined Master Kenobi outside on the steps of the Jedi Temple. It felt good to breathe the outside air, it's only too bad that the air you smelled was some of the galaxy's most polluted. It was your first week with him, and things were going okay, but you couldn't help but feel the relentless tension pulling at you both every time you were near him. It must be just the discomfort of something new, you thought.
"Ah, there he is" Obi Wan spoke up, referencing the tall, young Jedi that walked toward you both. His black robes set him apart from the way the others presented themselves, and his hair fell to his shoulders, wavy and slightly unkempt.
“Y/N I’d like you to meet Anakin” Your new Master introduced you to his other padawan. Anakin had already taken on his own padawan, due to how advanced his skills were, and the fact that a new wave of younglings had thrown off the balance of masters and apprentices.
“Nice to meet you” You smiled warmly at him.
“You as well. I hear you’ll be training under Master Kenobi now” He stated, more to make conversation rather than actual wonder. Master Kenobi had already told him about you.
“Yes, I was reassigned from Master Ti” You clarified. You tried not to hold any embarrassment for being a ‘late bloomer’, but sometimes it was hard to hide.
“I see, well, it will be good to have someone else around to keep Obi Wan busy” Anakin laughed, his childlike humor coming out in conversation.  You giggled in response.
“Yes, because you don’t keep me busy enough with your antics” Obi Wan rolled his eyes sarcastically.
"I try" Anakin smirked.
The banter made you feel more welcome in their circle. It could be uncomfortable, being a new padawan in such a tightly knit group of Jedi, but Anakin's humor calmed your racking nerves during the first few days.
“Ah yes, and now there are two of you to question my teachings” Obi Wan laughed, his hand falling to rest on your lower back. He almost pulled it away, and you felt his uncertainty, but you embraced the feeling nonetheless. It was innocent, of course, at least that's what you'd both convince yourselves was the case.
"What system are you from?"
"Oh, um, Outer Rim. Jelucan" You cleared your throat. Jelucan was not known for tourism or visitors, especially considering how far away it was from all the major systems.
"Jelucan. I think I may have visited there before" Anakin pondered. Maybe he had, but you would've remembered seeing a Jedi if he had come anywhere near your village.
"It's very mountainous, but beautiful. Its been my home for my entire life. Until now, of course"
"We should visit it soon, I'd love to see it" Anakin suggested. You knew that was not a good idea. It was already challenging trying to detach yourself from your old life, but visiting would make that even harder. Most younglings or padawans don't struggle with this, because their training starts very young and they don't remember much from wh.
"Anakin" Master Kenobi scolded, reminding him to be mindful of his tendency to get attached.
"She's 18, Obi Wan, she spent all those years with her family and you really think she won't want to go and visit them?" Anakin scoffed, his tone growing annoyed very quickly. It was unsettling, at first, but you had to remind yourself how long these two had known each other.
"Let's go, Y/N" Obi Wan guided you, his hand still rested against the curve of your back, barely evident through the thick of your robes, but enough to give you butterflies.
You understood his concern, and he had every right to scold Anakin for his suggestion, but remembering the fact that you may never see your family again did put a sharp ache in your heart.
"I am sorry for him" Master Kenobi shook his head as he looked down to his feet while you descended the stairs together.
"Master Kenobi, its no problem" You assured him.
"I feel he is my responsibility. Especially when he is wrong. He loses sight of what's right sometimes, and I feel...I feel like I failed somewhere" He sounded so shameful and so vulnerable. You felt for him, "I'm sorry, I shouldn't be telling you this".
"You cannot blame yourself, Master Kenobi. People have their own personalities and intentions regardless of who had any influence of their upbringing" You began, trying to make him feel better, "My sister came from the same loving parents that I did, but hated them, disowned us, left home at 16, and told us she'd never see us again. But there I was not too long ago, wondering if leaving my parents, the kindest people I've ever known, was the right decision".
"They are proud of you, Y/N. As am I," Obi Wan stopped with you at the foot of the stairs, making sure to make eye contact with you, so his sincerity was felt at its full capacity.
"I don't feel that I have had the chance to prove myself for you yet Master, but thank you" You smiled.
"I am proud of your resilience. It is so rare to start training this late in life, and it's not typically acknowledged how hard it is to part ways with the life you've always known when you're already an adult" He placed his gentle hand upon your shoulder. It warmed you, deep in your heart, to hear him say such kind words to you.

There was no time to ask why or how that tracker ended up in the backpack. There was no time for anything.
The Empire found you and Obi Wan, Darth Vader’s most wanted fugitives, and you had a sinking feeling in your gut you couldn’t run from this. Not this time.
The sanded ground beneath you shook violently, accompanied by a loud wave of crashing. They were blowing their way into the base.
You turned to look at Obi Wan, and caught the sight of a frightened, traumatized man. A man who’d do anything he could to protect you, but feared his ability to do so was stretched thin.
“He’s here” He whispered painfully.
“Who?” You asked timidly.
He hesitated, as if any amount of time taken to think about this would’ve helped him fully process that he was really alive, “Anakin”.
The air was sucked from your lungs. It wasn’t that you’d forgotten such a shocking revelation, but you’d certainly tried to push it from the forefront of your mind as the reality of it settled in. In all the panic of the blaring alarms and fearing for your life, you hadn’t even considered that it was he who had tracked you down.
Obi Wan sensed it, as the force still bound them together, and without a doubt, knew he was near. Anakin didn’t send just his troops or inquisitors to come and find you, he came to get you both himself, and it sent a chill down your spine. Remembering the power and skill in the force that Anakin wielded even back when you were Jedi together, you shivered to anticipate how the dark side had only strengthened his power more.
“Obi Wan” You called to him, trying to get his attention.
Instead of saying a word to you, he rushed to you, and passionately pressed his keeps hard against yours, his body language telling you all you needed to know…he was scared, and so were you.
He held the kiss for as long as he could, never wanting to part his mouth from yours when there was even the slightest chance you never would again.
Obi Wan grabbed only his lightsaber while you grabbed the backpack. Turning the corner as you left your room, it was clear that chaos was already ensuing. The ceiling of this particular landing pad that opened to allow ships in was obliterated, shrapnel and debris scattered the ground below. The other refugees and volunteers of this outpost were already armed, awaiting the forced landing of stormtroopers.
“Stay behind me, Y/N” He instructed, his arm creating a barrier around you as you hovered closely behind him.
“We need to go” You pleaded.
“We’re not leaving these people to fend for themselves” he stated firmly, turning behind to look at you, “The Empire is here because of us. It’s our fault they’ve come to Jambiim”
“I know. You’re right” You admitted. It was selfish to want to flee, you knew it was, but you knew this wouldn’t end well for either of you.
Cal and Cere were already standing in a ready position, guarding those who were more vulnerable and more scared. With time fighting against you, Obi Wan turned around and gripped your shoulders, holding your gaze as if he may never have it again.
“If we are taken, I will find you” He assured you.
“And if we’re killed?” Your voice cracked as your eyes welled with tears.
“He won’t” Obi Wan quickly responded. He couldn’t know that. Anakin wasn’t Anakin anymore.
“Obi Wa-” You sighed at his delusion
“Hush now, we don’t have time. You are strong, and we will be fine” He assured you, before pushing you back behind him as you moved into the landing port.
“I love you” Your lip quivered as you said it.
“I love you my dear” He smiled softly before planting one last peck on your lips.
“Cal, get these people out of here” Cere yelled across the caves.
“Y/N, there’s a corridor around the back way. It leads to a civilian transport ship. We are getting the others out of here. Please, come with-” Cere begged, her trembling hands gripping yours tight.
“No, this is personal. This is our fault. We will try and hold them off” You began, "Please. Don't wait for us". Cere stared at you in disbelief and deep conflict within herself as to whether she wanted to take that as an answer. She gave up on her internal fight quickly, knowing that time was of the essence now.
Quickly she threw her arms around you, pulling you into her, “May the force be with you, my friend”, you hugged her back and nodded to her and Cal as they corralled the rest of the people who were not able to fight out the back, and onto safety. Those that stayed prepared for what was about to come.
The moments that followed were truly the ultimate test of how well your training had stuck with you all these years. Somehow, you were managing, dodging blaster fire and melee combat from the sea of stormtroopers that spilled from that previously sealed door to the landing pad they’d landed their ship on. You wished you’d had your lightsaber, but that was lost so long ago, all you had were your hands, your stealth, and the blaster given to you only moments before you were invaded.
Obi Wan stayed close, careful to defend himself, the innocent refugees, and most importantly to him, you. You were in awe of his ability to stay so focused. The lingering dread in his heart could be felt by you, and probably every force user in the outpost. They wouldn’t know why, only that it was a frightening situation. They wouldn’t know that Obi Wan feared looking in the face of the man he thinks he failed.
After some time, you were fully convinced that the army of troopers would never end. It felt like a constant loop playing in your head
Then, time slowed to a screeching halt as an ominous, black pair of boots peeked through the visibility of the ship ramp. You forgot to breathe, anticipating Anakin’s arrival, but instead, unmasked feminine features came to view. Only a split second of slight relief was felt before absolute sorrow overcame you.
Reva…
But, how?
You could never forget her face. You were children together. She was a few years younger than you, but with your late start in training in the force, often you’d be in training together. She was kind, determined, and above all else, she was a leader. But no…she was dead. You saw her lay slain in the halls of the temple that horrid night. How is she alive? How did she end up here?
But, she’s here, she’s angry, and she’s just caught your gaze.
“You” She scoffed, pointing right to where you stood.
“Reva…what…how are you alive?” You called across to her, the weakness of disbelief riddling your tone.
“I don’t know what you mean, Y/N” Reva smirked, raising her arms in sarcastic denial. She must’ve only been unconscious when you escaped the temple, that had to be the only explanation.
“Why are you doing this? Why have you joined them?” You cried. You felt betrayed, somehow taking her decision personally.
“Let’s just say…it’s for the greater good” She held her sadistic smirk.
In all your shock, disbelief, and denial, you didn’t even notice the stormtrooper that charged you from behind, knocking you to the ground. You countered him quickly, disarming him and taking his life with the very blaster he’d just held in his hand. Killing someone, even the enemy, never felt right. And it never would. What felt worse, is the possibility that some of these troopers may have been clones. That was a thought that you had to continuously push from your mind.
Reva had focused in on Obi Wan, taking advantage of your distraction, fully engaging in a lightsaber battle now. You believed in his abilities, but it did not make you any less scared to watch him go head-to-head with her.
As you pointed your blaster at her, your body was jerked involuntarily and dragged toward the opening of the ship, causing you to drop your weapon. You screamed from the startling feeling, which immediately pulled Obi Wan’s attention. Reva was unfazed, still working against Obi Wan, and it was clear that it was not her use of the force that pulled you and now held you still. You struggled to get your footing, wanting so desperately to fight the force and break the connection but you were too weak to fight it with your own abilities and how they’d weakened over time.
“Y/N!” Obi Wan yelled. With his guard down, Reva swung the blade of her saber over Obi Wan’s head.
“Obi Wan!” You screamed back, shortly before the voice was ripped from your throat by the force that held you. You'd alerted him just in time, his blade colliding with hers only milliseconds away from serious injury, if not death.
Nausea formed in your stomach from such a close call. Obi Wan was absolutely panicked, but would perish if stopped his fight with Reva. The conflict he felt within him was unbearable. Your heart skipped a beat but settled only slightly when you remembered that someone had a hold on you, and you had a terrifying suspicion that it was him.
A modulated breath, one that struck you as so familiar, came from behind you, heavy boots against the metal ship ramp accompanying the haunting sound.
Anakin.
You'd heard that sound in your nightmares...but how?
The motion of your limbs may have been restricted, but your sight was unhindered as you watched the life drain from Obi Wan's face when he put his eyes on Vader. Reva halted her attacks, turning now to knock Obi Wan onto his knees, and wrapped her force hold around him now as well, so he could only watch what would happen next.
Vader's voice almost shook you out of your own skin as he called to Reva from directly behind you, "I will take the girl. Leave him".
His voice was changed to something so bone-chilling, likely from the damage he’d taken in the last moments Obi Wan saw him. He’d told you in as little detail as possible how it all went down, and why he thought Anakin had died. He believed that no human, Jedi or not, could survive that.
But he did.
Nothing about Vader looked or sounded like Anakin, but it was the force that assured you both. It was him, not a doubt about it.
You feared for your life but feared for Obi Wan's even more. In all the chaos you hadn’t even noticed that the refugees and Jedi that had stayed, retreated and fled through the corridor and to the transport ship, but so many of them never made it. The bodies of the fallen lay cold and still beside from the armored men that attacked them. You swallowed your tears, trying so hard not to show your weakness right now.
Anakin…no, Vader’s phantom hold on you felt debilitating, wrapping tighter around your entire being, making it feel hard to breathe.
"Bind her" Vader commanded, and without hesitation, two stormtroopers moved to ensure your stationary position and wrap your trembling wrists in binders. The force released you. Now restrained only by the cold metal against your skin, you were pulled to your feet.
Obi Wan kneeled there, still restrained by powerful use of force from the Inquisitor, completely helpless, “I don’t understand”, He muttered, not comprehending why Vader would take you and not him, and why he was allowing Obi Wan to even live now that he’d found you both.
“He doesn’t need you Obi Wan. Not now, anyways. He only needs her” Reva smirked, gesturing to where you stood, bent over with your hands cuffed.
How vile and sadistic. Kidnap the one who’s most important to him, right before his eyes, and Vader will have him on a string for as long as he pleases. For a second, you wondered how much they knew about your relationship, and if they knew it was deeper than what it once was.
“Lord Vader, it seems your former friends have grown very…close” Reva insinuated, inevitably picking up on the bond that had fused the two of you together in the force. She felt that it was intimate, and was happy to discover that you just became so much more valuable to them.
“Is that so? Interesting” Vader’s tone was still cold, but held a hint of intrigue.
"Anakin” He faltered as he said it, feeling Anakin’s name leave his lips again startled himself, “Stop this. You know it is not her that you want" Obi Wan begged, his broken voice shattering as he knew his begging was wasted breath.
"Anakin is dead, Obi Wan" Vader responded with haste, ignoring his plea.
It was frighteningly clear to him that there was nothing he could do to save you right now. Nothing that you leave you both unharmed.
“I’m sorry” He whispered to you, his face and voice broken with grief. He was defeated as he looked at your petrified and hopeless expression. For the first time in a long time, Obi Wan had lost. He could only watch as they dragged you away onto their ship. You felt your heart shatter into countless pieces as he finally disappeared from your view. It was at that moment that the same sinking, gut-wrenching feeling you’d felt the night you escaped the temple attacked you now.
You’d just got Obi Wan back, and now he was gone again, all in the blink of an eye, all because of Anakin.
You tried to look at him for as long as you could, but it was only fleeting as you were rushed onto their imperial ship. Panic washed over you, but you had to keep breathing. You had to stay strong.
The halls of the ship were dark and void of any feeling of life. The clanking of armor and metal filled the space as the only sounds you could hear, along with the dull roaring of the ship’s engine as it prepped to take you far away from here…away from Obi Wan. You could only listen as Reva threw him to the ground, releasing her hold, as she rushed to join you and Vader back on the ship.
There was a feeling of relief, knowing he was safe for now. You hoped he was able to join Cere and Cal on the transport ship before it launched.
The holding cell you were brought to was exactly what you expected. Cold, empty, and had one seat designed for your binders to attach to the back. As you were manhandled into the seat, you winced in pain as your cuts and bruises from fighting were finally making themselves known. You’ll adrenaline had subsided, no longer blinding you to the pain.
“Better get cozy, you’ll be here a while” one of the stormtroopers joked, finding your situation to be amusing.
Not exactly cozy, but you found comfort in your meditation. The constant lull of the ship’s sounds was slowly starting to fade. It may have been hours that passed before you heard heavy footsteps travel down the hall on the other side of your cell door.
The towering, haunting figure that was Lord Vader entered your cell. You stared him directly. You were afraid of the situation you were in, but you weren't really afraid of him. Your mind kept going back to the day you met him. You could never forget how kind he was to you.
“You’ll never find him again” You spat at him.
“We don’t have to. Obi Wan will find us” He paced the room slowly, “I suspect it won’t be long”.
“What have you become?” You scoffed, half angry, half heartbroken.
“What I’ve always been destined to become,” He said quickly, tired of your questions regarding the past, “I knew he always loved you. I could tell from the very beginning” He began, “which will certainly work in my favor”
“I’m not a fucking damsel in distress. You’re lucky I haven’t already gotten myself free” You were so fucking bluffing, but stars, you needed to convince even yourself that you didn't need to be saved.
“Without your precious lightsaber, you are nothing, Y/N” He snarled.
“We’ll see” You whispered, but had every intention of him hearing you.
You’d stopped believing in yourself the second that Vader had his hold on you and no amount of your own strength came close to fighting him. Obi Wan could train you, he could help you find your strength again, if you are ever able to be reunited. Seeing his face in your mind broke you, and you had to consider the serious possibility of never feeling his embrace again.
He wouldn’t want you to give up, so you would try to persevere…for him, but as Vader left the holding cell, all you were left with was your thoughts, and that was the most serious threat... yourself.

Plo smiled to himself as he tread the familiar route towards his favourite place in the temple, clutching his alternate mask that allowed him to drink with his partner-in-time-travel, he was headed to Mace’s flat and his usual spot on the other man’s sofa that was calling his name.
It had been A Day, and he was looking forward to one of their, now rather frequent, evenings chatting and drinking together on the sofa.
Giving off a strong “Notice me not” in the force he was running the gauntlet trying to not to be waylaid by requests, well wishers or complaints that often followed council members around. Nearly there, he faltered when he felt the welcome presence of one Obi-Wan Kenobi, coming his way.
He was about to let down his own shields when he paused, taking note of Obi-Wan’s companion and remaining where he was.
“So you’re sure you’re not coming? It’ll be fuun” The voice was not one Plo was terribly familiar with, slightly coy in tone and raising at the end to a singsong, clearly trying to wheedle Plo’s boy into something.
“Oh I’m sure it will, but I can’t I’m afraid…I have Anakin now you know, and I just need to get a few things done”.
Obi-Wan’s polite reply was laced with the tiniest of tiny amounts of irritation, and Plo decided to make himself known.
Rounding the corner he was surprised to see Knight Amran was the speaker. The tall, built Zabrak was standing close to Obi-Wan, one arm leaning against the wall of the corridor over the young Jedi’s slightly shorter frame.
“ Aww really?”
“Yes I’m quite sure.” Came the short, firm reply as Obi-Wan straightened up and began walking again, forcing the other being to catch up. Plo smiled.
Nice try Amran.
“Master Plo!” he was startled out of his rather smug thoughts by the cheerful greeting of his young friend. Knight Amran took a few startled paces away from him, to Plo’s intense amusement.
“Good afternoon Obi-Wan, Knight Amran” he greeted with a smile and a bow.
“Master”
“Obi-Wan, I believe Master Drallig is waiting for you for latemeal” he informed the pair. No harm in reminding the bold Zabrak who Obi-Wan’s friends were.
“Er…thank you Master, I had better get moving”. The young knight’s response was accompanied by a archly amused and knowing sense in the force as he bowed to his companions in goodbye. “Give my regards to Master Windu” he finished with a small knowing smirk.
Cheeky brat.
 ---
Plo set his second glass down.
“You’ll never guess who I saw Obi-Wan with earlier.” He asked, without waiting for a response “Knight Amran, who was very keen to spend some time with him.”
Mace looked at him flatly.
“You really do need to stop eavesdropping.”
“I wasn’t! I was just walking!”
Plo received a dubious look from his partner, who took a thoughtful sip of his wine.
“Hmm yes I have noticed Amran sniffing around” the Korrun Master replied with a sniff of distain. “They're far too old for Obi-Wan. They should know better.”
Plo snorted at his friend’s overprotectiveness.
“Obi-Wan's only a few years younger. There’s no harm in it” he said, bemused. The other man simply frowned.
“Besides, we both know Obi-Wan can more than take care of himself in…that sort of department.” Plo finished, trying to find the words without scarring himself or his companion.
“Yes thank you I’d rather not think about that” Mace grumbled, taking a very large gulp of his wine whilst Plo laughed.
Padawan Kenobi had been ‘a bit of a go-er’ in his late teens. Much to his Master’s distress. Plo knew Qui-Gon endured many sleepless nights worrying about his precious Padawan’s evening companions.
“But it’s matters of the heart I worry about. You know what he’s like!” Mace continued, rubbing his hand over his bald head.
Plo could give him that. Their soft-hearted friend did tend to fall in love with his entire being. They both remembered the shattered pieces of Master Kenobi after the Mandalore Incident, that first time around.
“Yes well Padawan Tachi and the Duchess are well behind him now, that’ll of course be different this time as soon as we get rid of that damned Maul, and in a few years he’ll meet his Commander and that’ll be that.” Plo said confidently.
“Oh ‘that’ll be that’ will it?” Mace teased “Alright, they did make a nice couple” he conceded after a whack from his confidant.
“You just liked Cody because he bullied Obi-Wan about staying safe” Plo retorted.
“I did” Mace admitted into his wine. “He was good for him. Much better than Vos, or Force forbid Amran, anyway.”
“I like Vos” Plo defended the cheerful Kiffar.
“He’s a troublemaker” Mace groused.
Plo privately thought there were very few people Mace deemed good enough for Obi-Wan, certainly nobody who could compare to the diligent, professional, practical standards of Commander Cody.
But then, they were both a bit biased towards the clones.
“Hopefully this time they’ll be able to settle down. It’ll be nice to have Cody and the vode in the family.”
“That would be nice” Mace murmured, cradling his glass. “But perhaps as far as romance goes, we’d better make sure Anakin pays more attention in his Health and Hygiene lectures this time around. At least emphasise the importance of basic pre-natal care!”
Plo groaned. To think that last time so much of the galaxy imploding was down to a naïve young couple who never thought to get reassurance from a trained healer, was incredibly frustrating.
“Young people are so stupid!” he sighed.
Mace laughed and raised his glass in a toast.
“Agreed.”

"i feel like for a bit there i had an au percolating about obi wan time traveling and becoming korkie's double in order to save satine" 👀 oh? (if you want to talk about it)
See okay I really haven't thought this one out a whole lot but there's so many fun things that could happen with it!
-Obi-Wan is 18. One day he wakes up and the Republic is at war, and the Jedi are leading it. He goes to the Jedi for help, because he has no idea what's going on, and they don't believe he is who he says he is. They already have an Obi-Wan Kenobi, you see, and this has to be some sort of Sith trick.
-Obi-Wan gets frustrated and seeks help from another friend--Satine. She doesn't know how to send him back to his own time, how to make the Jedi believe him (but she believes him, she always has), or how to stop this war that they both agree the Jedi shouldn't be leading, but she does know how to offer a lost child shelter. And Korkie needs help learning how to deal with the intricacies of the Senate, and Satine's good friend is Padmé, and Padmé uses doubles as bodyguards, and hey, do you mind keeping an eye out...
-Obi-Wan does keep an eye out. And then when some assholish Zabrak comes trying to usurp Satine, he's quite unprepared for Korkies unassuming bodyguard to fight him off long enough for General Kenobi to rescue everyone.
-Obi-Wan has no idea how close Satine came to dying that day.
Alternatively:
-Ben Kenobi is an old man, until very suddenly, he isn't.
-After dying on the Death Star, he wakes up on Mandalore. He looks very young, though he's not entirely sure how young. His best guess is somewhere between 16 and 23. He has a padawan braid. He cuts it off.
-It's the middle of the Clone Wars. He thinks it's...close...to the time Satine died. He's not entirely certain. The war has all sort of blurred together in his memories, into a mess of pain and loss and betrayal and Anakin--
-Anyway. Satine dies soon, and Ahsoka leaves the Order. Ben can stop that. He remembers this part. He can make it happen differently.
-He shows up on Satine's doorstep, looking like a lost little Jedi, with sweet manners and a very shell-shocked demeanor, and Satine knows beyond a doubt that this is Obi-Wan Kenobi's child. This is Obi-Wan's child, and he has run away from the war, and he has deliberately sought asylum from a neutral planet. And she says, mine now.
-He's not quite Korkie's age, but they do look very similar. If pressed, they could pass as siblings. Even twins, if no one looked too carefully.
-Korkie is 110% on board to hide a Jedi. It is possible that Korkie has hidden several other Jedi refugees before. Ben's not entirely certain; Ben also will not ask. If there are Jedi taking refuge on Mandalore, that only makes it more likely that they will survive the inevitable betrayal by the clone troopers.
-Death Watch is getting bolder, and Satine fears for Korkie's safety. She remembers another young Jedi protector, protecting another New Mandalorian noble. She should not ask this shell-shocked child to protect her nephew. She does anyway.
-Korkie teaches Ben everything he does not know about being a Mandalorian. Ben teaches Korkie everything he does not know about politics and lying by telling the truth. He also teaches Korkie to use a lightsaber. Just in case.
-And when Maul tries to take over, he finds himself taken by surprise by two unassuming young men who take great offense to an attempt against their aunt's life.
-And when Ahsoka leaves the Order, Satine sees another lost child of Obi-Wan's, and she again says mine now.
-Maul isn't dead. He's pissed off and in a dungeon somewhere but he isn't dead. He's spinning stories to Ahsoka about how Anakin is the next Sith apprentice, about how the mysterious Sith Master only took Dooku until Anakin could fully come into his power, about how the Sith Master had betrayed Maul, and of course Ahsoka knows it's all banthashit--
-Except Ben the bodyguard agrees with him, and isn't that interesting--
-Do you think the Jedi would let me come back to them if I kill the head of state even if he's secretly a sith lord--
Anyway, regardless of whether Ben travels forwards or backwards, this story would include:
-remarks about how Ben and Korkie look remarkably similar (and no clear conclusion on whether there's a reason for that, because I prefer my Korkies of dubious parentage and Force sensitivity)
-Korkie gets to use a lightsaber
-General Kenobi shows up and finds an identical Force presence and has a "Why are you me? I'm me?" kind of moment.
-Satine introduces Ben to Padmé who introduces him to Sabé who gives him a lot of tips about being a double once she realizes what's going on. They're great friends, even though Ben seems...odd, at times.
-Ben has no idea about the chips.
:)
But yeah I don't really have a lot for this story these are just the half-baked percolations. It's fun to think about when I have no idea what I'm doing with paw and galidraan.

craving touch (Part 1)
Part 1 - discomfort
On Ao3.
Obi-Wan felt uncomfortable in his skin. He tried his best to pay attention to the discussion while hiding his feelings through the Force. His fingers touched his arm, he felt the bandage underneath his clothes and put on enough pressure to keep his attention in a bay. And that pain helped him to clear his head.
"After all, the negotiations were successful and the baron decided to side with the Republic." Mace Windu crossed his arms in front of him, as he spoke on the holoprojector.
"And next time, I'll be here and we'll catch Grievous together." Anakin said almost snarling as he nodded at his master. He paused only for a moment, and his eyes narrowed a bit, but continued. "But now you need to rest, master, and you can go back to Coruscant to have some rest." He placed his hand on Obi-Wan's shoulder.
"Skywalker, you will be needed soon, be ready to depart Obi-Wan," Windu spoke up and everyone listened to him again. "Nice work."
"Thank you, the Negotiator, thanks to the Force is still able to go back home. A couple of days and we can go back at the front line." Obi-Wan finally let his body relax a bit.
"May the Force be with you all." The broadcast ended, the holo-display changed back to show a map and some data of the nearby planet.
"Nice work, that is a real compliment coming from Master Windu." Ahsoka coughed standing next to Rex. The clone allowed himself a half-smile.
"As you say, Snips." Anakin's hand still rested on his master's shoulder. "But you really should go and meditate, Obi-Wan, since I know sleeping is off the table when we're talking about you. We'll take over from here, check over everything once again, and then you all can go back to Coruscant." He gently patted the man's shoulder before letting him go.
Obi-Wan's shoulders tensed up, he tried his hardest to hide his feelings from the two other jedi in a room, he didn't want to let Ahsoka feel his discomfort. It was embarrassing to know that Anakin was aware of it already. "Yes." He managed to find his voice. "I think it would be the best. I leave it to you, then, Anakin."
"He should be really tired, -ouchhey." Whispered Ahsoka, then Rex gently poked her with his elbow.
"You'll be fine, master. You chased away the big, evil cyborg."
"I wish I were able to defeat him once and for all." Obi-Wan shook his head.
"You cut one of his limbs off, seriously damaged his dreadnought, and practically decimated his army." Said Anakin.
"I suppose." Obi-Wan gently rubbed his eyes, trying to wash away some of the exhaustion. "Cody, while I rest; I leave things to you and Anakin. You can find me in my room if there are any problems."
"Yes, general." The clone commander carefully watched his jedi, only Rex noticed that his eyes were more serious than usually.
"But there won't be any problem, go to sleep." His former padawan gently started to push him out of the bridge. "We will wake you up, if needed."
Obi-Wan rolled his eyes, but nodded gratefully to Anakin before exiting the wide door. They were right. Yes, he was tired. Yes, he needed to take care of himself.
"Have a nice sleep, master Kenobi." Ahsoka called after him.
He waved a bit of a thank you and goodbye, then began walking down the hall alone.
When he got away from everyone, his skin began to tingle in the same way it usually did. The nervous knot in his stomach was there again, as it had been for months. He knew he was touch starved, but he decided not to face it, not yet. He couldn't let it get in his way in the middle of the war.
He had this condition from a very young age. He felt it even as a youngling, and he had to deal with it when he became a padawan. The masters were aware of his feelings, and most of them helped it to control it. Even Qui-Gon sensed his nervousness, but for Obi-Wan's surprise, his master didn't think at it as a bad thing. Physical contact itself was not something he should worry about, rather the craving for it that can be dangerous. The Force made him this way for a reason - he once told him. And he taught him as much as he could to manage his feelings. As a Jedi, keeping his desires under control proved to be quite a challenge.
His master made sure to kept it in a balance; he always put a hand on his shoulder, or on his back when he sensed Obi-Wan's discomfort through the Force. And sometimes he even embraced him. To this day, Obi-Wan wasn't sure that those occasions didn't just deepen the relationship between them. Either way, he was grateful to Qui-Gon, he had never told him to suppress his feelings, only to focus on the present and the Force.
And Obi-Wan had learned over the years, even though sometimes he noticed that they were trying to break through. The yearning of being held, and holding onto someone. During the meditations, he could sometimes only go deeper when he imagined that hands that stroked his back and chest and hugged him tightly, almost protectively.
He trembled at the thought, and had to slow down in his steps.
The war didn't help.
Back at the temple at least he could hug master Plo. The Kel-Dor soon realized he needed to be touched so he always kept a close eye on him, especially after Qui-Gon's death. And Obi-Wan always felt deep gratitude towards him too. With his help, he was able to keep his own feelings at bay. Not just about the loss of Qui-Gon, but him becoming a full knight, and a master so fast.
And now he was stuck in a war - he, and every jedi, and every clone.
And he became more touch starved with every week. Honestly, he was a bit proud of himself, that itching feeling of loneliness took a long time to completely got a hold of him. He focused on the war and on every battle, - on his men to protect them, as much of them as he was capable.
First, he didn't know what to expect about his clones. First, he thought a bunch of soldiers will be completely different from him, - a jedi - but how foolish he was. They too were taught not to get attached, Force, they were taught they didn't even matter. Their only purpose was to fight for the Republic, and die if they must. They were ready to throw their life away to protect him, or to win in a battle.
For the first couple of days, he needed to meditate, and think. His soul felt heavy, and while he focused on the battles, his guilt stood with him.
He had to push down the urge to constantly argue with them about the importance of their lives. There are millions of clones, they said; if some of them die, three other brothers will take their place to fight. But there was only a few jedi, and all of them are important, much more than a clones. Obi-Wan almost let out a dry, empty laugh the first time he heard that.
He folded his arms in front of him. Every part of his being wanted to hug his men, to comfort them, to comfort himself. He wasn't a soldier, he wasn't supposed to be a soldier, just a peacekeeper. But sometimes he felt like he failed being both of it.
With a small nod he walked besides his men until he reached the turbolift. As the door closed, he leaned his back against the wall and took a shuddering breath.
He tried to cling into the tiny hope that Anakin was the only one who noticed he was trembling. Ahsoka was still young, but the Force was strong with her, there was no question about it, and she also seemed to be better at sensing someone else's feelings than most people.
Still, Obi-Wan had to hid himself even from his people, it would make him look weak in the end, and he couldn't allow that. Acting like a general, that was expected of him, and in the last few months he realized what exactly that meant.
Luckily, he was returning to the temple soon, if Force willing, maybe Master Plo will be there as well.
He pulled himself straight, gently adjusted his clothes, crossed his arms in front of him again, then stepped out of the lift. Maybe he was really worrying for nothing.
But of course, there was someone, besides Anakin, who realized that something was wrong with the jedi master.
Cody was watching his superior throughout the conversation, taking notes to himself. Any of his men could tell that the jedi had been on his feet for too long. His injuries were too fresh to run around, making sure that everything was in order. However, in the last weeks, the jedi's behavior has changed. It felt like he closed himself up from them. His usually open demeanor faltered and he seemed to have turned inwards.
After the briefing, he assigned everyone their tasks and checked everything that was required. But even then, their general didn’t let himself relax. Only when Skywalker left his hand on his master's shoulder, the older man let himself ease a little bit.
Something was off with his general, and as a clone he needed to figure it out what, so he could help him. After checking on everything again, he decided to search for Skywalker. For once, Force decided to side with him. At least he thought the Force probably worked something like that, since he found General Skywalker and Commander Tano with the 212th in the cafeteria.
Most of his brothers were keeping their attention on the general, and each one of them tried to sit as close as it was possible.
Cody couldn't help but let himself smile.
Loud laughter broke out around the general, in which Ahsoka also joined in on.
"And so, we got our lightsabers back, and even our clothes too." Anakin chuckled along with the clones. "But of course, if the master tells this adventure of ours, he usually only notes that we engaged in a long diplomatic discourse, then duly accepted the drinks served to us. Then we left the next day."
"The general doesn't tell much about his old adventures." Hex noted cautiously, following his words quite a few curious glances fixed on Skywalker.
Cody nodded to himself in agreement. Obi-Wan always warned them to keep their eyes on the present, sometimes he revealed a detail here or there about his old adventures, but mostly the answer was always the same; it's a long, old story, and I'll tell it in time, when we will have time. That time never came though, only that sad glint remained in the Jedi's eyes.
"In time he will surely tell, Obi-Wan always focuses on the present, as he taught me. Just give him some time."
Cody slowly clenched his fists as he stepped closer. "General, may I have a word, sir?" Good, he was able to hold his voice.
Skywalker turned to the clone, his eyes watched him carefully before he stood up, he was most likely already aware of his intentions when he approached. "Well everyone, duty calls, maybe we will have a different story next time."
Cody stepped next to the jedi and they made their way out of the cafeteria.
"How can I help you, Cody?" Skywalker asked when they were finally alone.
"I would like to ask, about General Kenobi." The clone felt a nervous knot appearing in his stomach.
"Something personal, perhaps?"
Cody really wished in that moment that he was wearing his helmet. "No-, well in a way."
"I'm listening." Skywalker seemed more serious, he really did care about his master after all. He was a good man, a bit extra for Cody's taste, and maybe a bit unpredictable. But he protected his men at least as conscientiously as Kenobi. Even though his usual methods and unconventional tactics didn’t always suggest this. Regardless, he was glad that Rex was serving under Skywalker, both he and the young jedi seemed to get along well.
Cody cleared his throat. "The general, he seemed more worried for days now, I'd even say he seemed uneasy, sir. I wondered if there would be a way to help him to get some rest." He didn't know exactly where they were going, but he waited patiently for an answer as best he could, and he didn't know who to turn to.
"Obi-Wan has always, erm, needed closeness."
Cody tried not to give to the jedi an odd look.
Skywalker either didn't see it, or just didn't care about it as he continued. "As his former Padawan, I know how much it affects him - to lose even one soul that he tried to save. And besides that…" He went silent again.
For a second it seemed like the jedi became uncomfortable.
Cody didn't know if he stepped over a line, or if he asked something wrong. Maybe it was his fault, maybe it was some kind of Jedi thing that the kaminoans never knew, so they couldn’t teach them. Maybe he should just have to mind his own business. Before he could say anything, Anakin started talking again.
"He mostly meditated with someone else." The jedi glanced at him, again, there was something in his eyes. "With his master, and with me. Maybe you should help him, he could teach you how to meditate, and you could help him to calm down a bit."
"I'm not sure, sir. I have never-"
"It's all right, Obi-Wan was always a good teacher. You just have to sit with your back against his." He looked at Cody up and down. "Maybe without the armor. It, um, well your back needs to touch his. It will help."
Cody gave the jedi an uncertain look, he has never meditated before in his life, but it was sure as the stars that he wasn’t going to argue about it with a jedi. "Well, if you say, sir. And if it really helps the general, then I think I could try."
Skywalker patted his shoulder and stopped after a few steps. "Good, I think he's still up, probably reading the reports, or the situation about the war around the galaxy."
"He does that, maybe a bit too much." Cody stood next to him. "Worrying too much, and getting hurt during that."
Skywalker glanced at him, with that same mysterious look.
"Sir? Is there something on my face?"
"Nothing, Cody. I'm glad you're next to my master. You're a good man." He gently patted his shoulder again. "Good luck, and don't let yourself be shaken off."
Cody raised an eyebrow, and had to blink a couple of times when he finally realized that they walked right to Obi-Wan's room. He caught Skywalker's gaze as he glanced back at him over his shoulder.
After a couple of moments Cody stepped closer to the door. It felt as if he was up against the biggest challenge of his life. But he wanted to help, it was his duty; taking care of his jedi. And even if it wouldn't have been his task, he would have still wanted to help the man.
He took a deep breath, but the door opened before he was able to knock.

Cy's 2023 Fic Replay - Track #10
Intro: My entire 2023 Music Replay is populated by tracks from my various fic playlists, and it's made me a little nostalgic and a little reflective so I'm going to be extremely self indulgent and talk about why these are the top songs and the fics they go to. So without further ado ...
track 10: Breathe Me - Sia
This song has been a go to on fic playlists since my Dexter/Lumen days. I love how it feels intimate, and sensual but not explicitly romantic. That simple begging lyric of 'Be my friend' encompasses such an expanse of possibilities that it is often on my playlists for those more complicated relationships which spring from less than healthy places. Like I said it was my banner song for Dexter/Lumen, it featured heavily in my April/Ben playlist when I was writing 'Escape Hatch' so long ago that this link still takes you to live journal, and now suddenly it's back in heavy rotation ... and I still love it.
fic rambling, lyrics and excerpts below the cut
fic: Prodigal
[obianidala | in-universe | post rots ]
I cannot emphasize enough how much I didn't see this fic coming. I have a really complicated relationship with post-RotS obianidala fics because I'm not that interested in any sort of redemptive arc for Anakin once Order 66 occurs. So needless to say, actually writing a post RotS oad fic? Not on my bingo card.
But I really love this fic. It's bittersweet and sharp edged and not at all a redemption story.
But it is a forgiveness story. It's a story about loving someone you know to be capable of monstrous things. About what that does to you and figuring out how to live with that part of yourself.
Which is to say that, although I am writing three love stories, because its me this is first and foremost Obi-Wan and Padme's story. And this song is their song. Specifically this bit:
Help, I have done it again I have been here many times before Hurt myself again today And, the worst part is there's no-one else to blame Be my friend Hold me, wrap me up Unfold me
This encapsulates everything both of them are going through. The blame they put on themselves for what happened and how much they need each other ... It's not an explicitly romantic dynamic, but its so deep and complicated and powerful, its the glue of the story and it's truly one of my favorite flavors of them I've written ...
So to give you a flavor of what I'm talking about, here have this excerpt from Chapter 2 where Padme asks Obi-Wan to share his memories of massacre at the temple:
“Maybe–” she licks her lips, sucking a little on the blood that begun to decorate the surface. “Maybe it will help? You’ve been carrying around all by yourself. Maybe if you share it, it won’t feel so heavy?” “And maybe we’ll just both wind up with nightmares.” “At least you won’t be alone anymore.” It’s a more appealing prospect than he’d like to admit. Still– As if sensing his hesitation, how close he teeters to the edge, she presses. “Don’t you think I deserve to know?” He stiffens at that, some instinctive, possessive part of him rejecting the idea that this woman is entitled to anything when it comes to his Padawan, even this, but then she continues. “He did it for me after all. That’s what he says, right? How he explains it? That he did it to keep me safe. Don’t you think I should have to pay the price?” Oh. Oh my dear. Unable to help himself, he reaches up and brushes a lock of hair out of her face. All his blame— All the secret resentment and unspoken condemnation he’s been carrying around for her in his pockets evaporating in an instant. “No.” Padme closes her eyes at the touch. “Because you think it's yours?” “Possibly.” Definitely. “Well stop it.” She says trying valiantly to lighten the mood. “Selfishness like that. It’s unbecoming a Jedi.” And it’s not that he doesn’t appreciate the attempt but— “The Jedi are dead.” “I know,” she whispers, “I’m sorry.” “Me too.” They lay there for a long time, watching each other, her hand on his cheek, his fingers in her hair. Enjoying the sensation of touching someone, of being touched. And for a moment, just a moment, he forgets, what’s happened, who he’s with, why even this is too much solace, too much grace.
So there you go track 10. Hope this was enjoyable for some of you.
PS Does anyone know how to make the Spotify stuff smaller with requiring me to learn how to do a custom theme on my Tumblr? Because whoa ... that's really big and annoying

Not My Master
Tumblr media
Chapter 2
‘Y/N, I am heading off an assignment, continue with your studies while I’m away and Master Windu will check in with you’ said Master Bastiela to you as you both stood in the hanger.
‘May I not come with you Master, I could help’ you tried, you knew it would be of no use.
You had been on a handful of missions, most of the Padawan learners had been on hundreds since then. At nineteen having been on very few missions, it was embarrassing, it was humiliating, but most of all you felt as though you weren’t trusted.
‘No, this mission won’t benefit from your help’ said master Bastiela.
Her words cut through you, all you wanted was to be a good Jedi, the best you could be to help people. Stepping back you bowed.
‘Very well, may the force be with you’ you said, before the words even fell from your mouth your Master jumped into her ship and flew from the hanger.
Your posture stooped, you wondered through the halls of the temple, it was late evening so most of the Jedi were in the canteena eating their dinner. Wondering with no destination in mind, you ended up in the gardens.
‘Anakin, just allow the force to guide you, don’t control it’ came a voice near the pond.
‘I’m trying Master... it just feels like I have stepped back into my first pod race, I’m sorry’ said Anakin.
‘Y/N, hello there, would you like to join us?’ offered Obi Wan when he sensed you wondering closer.
‘Sorry Master Kenobi I didn’t mean to disturb you’ you said.
‘Don’t be, it looks like you could use some meditation, Anakin here is going through it as well, perhaps together it can help’ suggested Obi Wan softly.
‘Are you sure? I’m supposed to be self studying’ you said biting your lip.
‘It’s because of that I think you should’ said Obi Wan, patting the patch of grass next both him and Obi Wan.
‘Ok’ you said, shrugging off your cloak, sitting on top of it, crossing your legs.
‘I’m not going to help you Anakin, you and Y/N will have to figure it out’ said Obi Wan, slipping into the force immediately leaving you both.
‘What’s going on with you?’ you asked as you both slipped into the force.
‘I got into a bit of situation on our latest assignment, and well I have an injury that was exacerbated from my pod racing days’ grumbled a now fourteen year old Anakin.
‘Ah, so your barrier is physical pain’ you commented.
‘What’s your barrier then? Too much studying? asked Anakin.
‘I wish, no umm, my Master told me my help would impede on this mission... I guess her words just hurt me emotionally’ you shrugged.
‘You don’t go on many missions do you?’ asked Anakin, beginning to guide you as you did with him when he first arrived.
‘No... I feel like I’m a failure’ you whispered.
‘I don’t believe that, you helped me a lot when I was younger and I know Obi Wan learnt loads about the way you approach the force’ said Anakin.
‘Really? Obi Wan learnt from me... I find that hard to believe’ you snorted falling back slightly.
‘Why? Because your Master lets you think so, I think you’re wrong’ commented Anakin.
‘You’re more confident than I remember’ you teased.
‘I am... you helped with that’ said Anakin.
You let his words sink in... and all of a sudden you felt lighter, like the force was helping you float.
‘Wow’ you whispered.
‘Hmm, pain... it can be just current we need’ grinned Obi Wan as you and Anakin reached him in the wave of peace, the three of you slipping out of the force.
‘You’re right Master’ said Anakin.
‘I’m what now?’ asked Obi Wan, grinning as you chuckled at Anakin’s eye roll.
‘I’m not saying it again, I’m going for dinner’ grunted Anakin, pushing to his feet grumbling as he left you.
‘I’m sorry Y/N, that you feel as though you’re not worthy’ said Obi Wan, reaching out to you in the force.
‘That’s ok, I do feel much better now, so thank you Master Kenobi’ you said speaking respectfully.
‘Who is watching over you while you are here?’ asked Obi Wan softly.
‘Master Windu’ you said with a questioning tilt of your head.
‘Well, Anakin needs to stay behind to heal but also to catch up on his studies, I have an assignment that I’ll be leaving for tomorrow, would you be open to me requesting you to help me on it?’ asked Obi Wan.
You don’t have to because you feel sorry for me’ you sighed bowing your head.
‘Hey...’ said Obi Wan lifting your head with his fingers under your chin. ‘I want you with me because I know I need your help’.
‘Ok... I would really like that’ you said smiling when Obi Wan retracted his hand.
‘Have you eaten yet?’ asked Obi Wan.
‘Not yet’ you said shaking your head.
‘Come on then, I was going to have dinner out of the temple tonight, why don’t you join me’ suggested Obi Wan brightly.
‘Ok’
Pushing to your feet, and putting on your cloaks, you followed Obi Wan out of the Temple and into the city. You’d be the first to admit it, but this was the distraction you needed.

[ Continued from HERE -- > @multistoty  -- > Accepting! ]
It was so frustrating that he could look like that even covered in sweat. Either whatever creator was out there was smiling on her or they had a cruel sense of humor. The senator had never had the time or freedom for boys. Honestly, most hadn't even warranted the thought of chasing after someone. She should have known back in the day that it was always Anakin Skywalker. Palpatine had asked her what she was going to do after her term and that little slave boy on Tatooine had been the motivator only for her heart to beat against the cage of her chest. He wasn't just beautiful. Anakin was kind, intelligent, sarcastic, and respectful. Motivated by doing good and leaving a legacy that was not a scar were just as beautiful qualities as the way he bit his lip. Obi-wan had sent them ahead only for the spaceship to break apart. The concentration and skill with which he worked was mesmerizing. The politician did her best to listen to his advice on the tools needed or holding something some way. She wanted to know how his mind worked and he had the giddy spirit of a little boy so fall of light that it was a wonder that even non force users hadn't stopped in their tracks. It also gave her an excuse to lean her head against his or had little brushes of skin. The apples of her cheeks betraying her in a blush. Since the moment that Obi-wan had come in with his Padawan in tow, the former queen had created a future that seems incapable of being realized. The tasting of those soft parted lips against her own feeling as much like a reward as his dazzling smile shining on you. Padme enjoyed learning new things and made note of more than just his muscles and his adorable skill in this area though it would be a lie to say she wasn't filing this away to bring up later. She already had done a mental inventory of the holos she would read in the time imagining futures and moments even what it was like in his orbit. Such a wonder how being there to hear someone you care about speak about their passions could be as intimate and rewarding as a kiss. "I love hearing you talk about machines. Its fascinating though I am certain that you could make anything sound so lovely. I doubt I am as good of an apprentice like you are with Obi-wan, but I do think i have enough knowledge to fix and impress a few pilots in my time. Not that they aren't as good as you without the impulsive heroics. I hope this wasn't too much trouble or puts you too behind on your schedule."
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Anakin was trying to fix the ship and not focus on the fact that he couldn’t help but notice, that Padme was watching him. It was distracting him, when he was supposed to be finishing the ship. She was so beautiful.  He really was right, that she had only grown more beautiful, in all the years, since he had seen her. It was hard to focus on the ship, when she was as close as she was. He could practically feel her breath against his, every time she leaned against him or handed him something else.
His thoughts were definitely wandering and he was noticing it, when she would lean her head against his.
He got nervous and awkward about things but there was a big part of him that wanted to pull her into a kiss and see what she would do.  He couldn’t stop thinking of it, actually.
“I almost have it. I think that you should give me a reward as soon as I finish it.”  He took a deep breath. “And done. So what do you think about a reward?”

Note
“You don’t have to worry about that,” I whisper, “‘cause you’re gonna be the best Jedi ever. ‘M sure of it.”
Anakin nods a little and closes his eyes, thinking of all the ways he'll make his mom proud as a Jedi. And then when the time is right he'll come back to Tatooine and free her. Bring her with him to Coruscant. She'd love it there, probably.
His start to being a Jedi is... rocky, and emotional, to say the least.
The rest of the mission on Naboo ends with a solemn goodbye to his newest dear friend, Qui-Gon Jinn. As he stares at the fire that slowly claims Qui-Gon's body, he can't help but feel... angry. Why do such bad things happen to good people? Why did the Force decide to take him, and not the loser who was trying to kill him?
When you get back to the Temple with Ben, Ben fights for the rights to train both you and Anakin. He not only declares that Qui-Gon's last wish was for him to train you both, but also lays out the facts: his lineage, as Yoda very well knows, is one of the most educated lineages to ever make its way through the Jedi Order. Even before Dooku, there were researchers in the lineage who spend their time in the archives, studying whatever they found interesting.
After a grueling, several-hour discussion with the Council, Ben is granted rights to become yours and Anakin's Master. The youngest Jedi to ever train and mentor a dyad pair. Who knew he would be making such history as early as his twenties?
And... training Anakin isn't always easy. He says you are his easy one- sure, you ask a lot of questions or second guess some of the teachings that have been long-standing. Some of the teachings Ben would even agree should be... tweaked. Adapted. But through and through, the two of you follow the Order and its code religiously.
Anakin, on the other hand... has such trouble controlling his emotions. Some days, even the slightest things can set him off, and Ben never really knows why exactly that happens. Anakin also has trouble with meditation. His mind is always churning, his body always moving- to sit with you and Ben on the balcony in the mornings for daily meditation is just as difficult for Anakin as the Literature tests he has to take throughout his courses.
Year after year, Ben feels a growing sense of unrest within his padawan- and though he reaches out to friends and other lineage members for advice, and tries to teach Anakin new ways to cope with his emotions, it never quite works. Anakin is unique. Anakin is... darker than Ben expected- he's never really had to teach someone so dark before. It's easy to be stunned about Anakin, though, when Ben compares him against the bright light you radiate each and every day. But, that's what dyads are all about, he figures. Light and dark. Even if the dark does concern the Council.
As Anakin gets older, he starts to turn further away from the loud, outgoing person he was as a child. He becomes a bit more mature, a bit quieter- he's still just as fun and caring with you and Ben as he ever was, but with strangers, he's more apprehensive.
Probably because even from the first week he got to the Temple, and word spread about where he was from, the children decided to call him Slave Boy. Always a wonderful nickname to hear when all he wants to do is exist and train and learn.
By the time the two of you are in your early teens, you're closer than ever before, still sleeping together most nights. Ben often wonders if he should... do something about that, perhaps split you up or limit sleeping together to just a few nights per week. But he remembers what it felt like to lie next to Satine the few times they enjoyed each other's company overnight... before things ended... and- well, he doesn't really wish loneliness upon anyone. Especially two of his favorite people in the galaxy. To have a companion to sleep next to, to feel safe next to- it's something that should be cherished. Even if it goes against the Code that he loves so dearly.
Through it all, Ben loves and cherishes every moment he gets to spend with the two of you, coming to know more and more about you with each day that passes.
On the night before your shared sixteenth birthday, Ben stays up late baking cakes- two different ones, each tailored to your specific preferences. He also finishes wrapping the presents he bought both of you and tucks them away neatly in the closet for the next day.
When you wake up in the morning, Ben comes into your room, having waited for both your presences to stir before barging in. You're both growing- the sleep is important.
He carries in a tray absolutely stacked with all kinds of foods for breakfast, grinning as he sets it down carefully at the foot of the bed and sits next to it.
"Good morning," he hums, "Happy sweet sixteen to you both. I've got big breakfast, cakes for later, anddd presents. I believe we're having a small party later too, so clear your schedules."
He grabs two of the plates and holds them out to each of you, taking his own once those are given away. "I figured I'd... sit here and eat with you? If that's alright?"
"More than fine, Ben," Anakin grins, "Thanks so much- it smells delicious."

Fic Idea Masterlist
Who He Is – Qui-Gon Jinn, right before the Naboo mission, is tossed forward in time where he meets a young Togruta padawan right off the coast of a battle. As she brings him to the base to meet with the High General, he talks a bit about his own padawan. (Time Travel)
Bending Jedi – The Jedi can bend the four main elements they have been keeping these specific abilities hidden away from the populous when they can, as people tend to fear them with what they can already do, the discovery of bending in Jedi would breed more distrust and fear. But the war has made that too difficult, as the Jedi are desperate to protect, and the clones are the first to discover the Jedi’s abilities, more than what they were told in their training. (Bending Jedi Avatar-Style)
Together Twins – An attack on Polis Massa forces Obi-Wan Kenobi to flee with both Luke and Leia Skywalker.
Chances – Trading their silence and obedience for the clones’ freedom at the end of the war, the Jedi find themselves nearly shunned and hated with the intense anti-Jedi sentiments that run rampant due to Palpatine’s influence. The clones refuse to accept this.
Order & Academy – After being rejected by Qui-Gon Jinn, initiate Obi-Wan Kenobi finds himself forward in time during that of the height of Luke Skywalker’s Jedi Academy. (Time Travel)
Third Systems Unprepared – During the explosion where he received his iconic scar, Commander Cody’s chip was knocked around to the point of disuse. When the Chancellor calls on Utapau to Execute Order 66, Cody has no idea what it means, therefore unable to send the orders to the rest of the 212th Attack Battalion and much of the Open Circle Fleet. It changes a lot.
Reverse Psychometry – After coming back from his stint with the Dark Side, Quinlan Vos spends some time with Obi-Wan Kenobi and touches his cloak with an ungloved hand. Instead of his psychometry giving him flashes of the past, he’s fairly certain it gives him a flash of the future. One where Obi-Wan’s grief is overwhelming, everyone is dead, and Anakin Skywalker burns without his limbs. (Reverse psychometry)
Kamino Investigation – Instead of chasing Jango Fett off Kamino, Obi-Wan Kenobi stays on planet, giving the tracker to another nearby knight, while he investigates the clones and the events surrounding them.
Space Survival – An explosion goes off on the Negotiator, which is in low orbit over the Republic world for repairs. Obi-Wan Kenobi is aboard and holding as much of the ship together as he can for the evacuation of the wounded.
Bracca Detour – Upon an accidental detour to Bracca after being sent to Tatooine for exile with Luke, Obi-Wan Kenobi finds Cal Kestis.
Lothal AU – Owen Lar’s disbelief and mistrust of Obi-Wan chases him away and the Jedi leaves with Luke (or Leia), eventually finding himself on Lothal where he befriends the Bridgers.
Bit Age Swap – Jedi Knight Anakin Skywalker has no intention on taking a padawan just as the war is starting, despite being a knight for nearing a decade until his master, Mace Windu, comes to him with an orphaned padawan, Obi-Wan Kenobi, whose Master died on Geonosis and is determined to fight in this war, whether the Order likes it or not. Skywalker quickly discovers there is more to padawan Obi-Wan Kenobi than first meets the eye. (Smidge of Age-Swapping)
Din Djarin Au – With the Sith and Separatists defeated, Obi-Wan Kenobi and the 212th are finishing the last of the battles against the droids and stubborn Separatist leaders. It is on a planet, during one of these battles, where the droids are invading a city, that General Kenobi rescues newly orphaned and force-sensitive Din Djarin.
Stay Out of it – Obi-Wan and the 212thare in bound to Coruscant for a few days’ rest, refuel and new orders when Anakin and Padme’s marriage comes to light. And then, Obi-Wan cant get back to the front quick enough.
This is Different – Coming back from Melida-Daan has proven more difficult than anticipated for Obi-Wan Kenobi and it only gets worse when he wakes up, decades later, only to be found – and accepted – by a monstrous Sith Lord, who seems to have some odd soft spot for him. (Time Travel)
Lineage Reconnection – Obi-Wan brings it upon himself to contact Qui-Gon’s lineage and friends to inform them of the news of his death. Yoda does what he does best and meddles. At least, it appears this time, it worked for the better of everyone involved.
Back with Hope – Obi-Wan Kenobi, a while after Order 66 finds himself back in time, reliving events. He doesn’t entirely know where to start with changing things until something changes for him. The Jedi receive a call from an unknown source – it is tiny clone children calling for their only hope – Obi-Wan Kenobi. (Time Travel)
Undying – It is on Bandomeer when Obi-Wan Kenobi and Qui-Gon Jinn discover that the former cannot die, and it is used to their advantage. Obi-Wan keeps his secret, even after Qui-Gon’s death, until he can’t anymore. It is the revelation of the Chosen One prophecy that his purpose is revealed – as a Guardian, Obi-Wan Kenobi cannot die until the Chosen One has brought balance to the Force.
Lineage Last – Anakin and Ahsoka both leave the Jedi Order after she is accused – and proven innocent – and although Obi-Wan understands, the fact that he they left, and he is the last of his lineage doesn’t hurt any less.
Amor – Obi-Wan has been to war before; no one needed to convince him to wear at least some armor. Now how much, that is a different story.
Canon Switch – Anakin Style – After saying something he would come to regret; Anakin Skywalker finds himself in a universe where Obi-Wan had died on Naboo... and Qui-Gon had lived. It is not nearly as he dreamed it would be. (Alternate Universe – Canon Divergence – Time Travel)
Canon Switch – QuiGon Style – A heartbroken Qui-Gon survived Naboo while his padawan did not. Barely surviving for the next ten years, Qui-Gon finds himself in a universe where the opposite is true. (Time Travel)
Dooku Set Up – Tired of Palpatine’s schemes, Count Dooku thinks of defecting when the master Sith Lord is killed. Someone is setting him up and Dooku reaches out to the only person he desperately hopes can help - his grand padawan Obi-Wan Kenobi.
Extra Weird Jedi – The Jedi end up being different than the clones had expected. More odd, dangerous, intriguing. The Kaminoans had told them one thing, the populace’s view of the Jedi. But up close, working with them? It’s so much different.
Baby Counselor – Obi-Wan Kenobi is the youngest member of the Council and is known a bit as the Council baby – at least with other masters – and those on it, are not afraid to treat him that way. It just a tad changes things.
Crechemaster Obi-Wan – When the war comes to an end, Obi-Wan Kenobi decides to become a creche master while Anakin and Padme expect their first child. But when the Senator dies of a cause that is no one’s fault, Anakin is left bereft and leaves his children behind. Obi-Wan takes Luke and Leia into his creche clan.
To be Chosen – Jedi Luke Skywalker is thrown back in time to that where the Order still exists. Finding he cannot go back; he constructs a new life and home into the Temple. Several years later, even though Master Yoda tries to keep a specific initiate away from his sight, Luke encounters him anyways and thinks, perhaps he and Obi-Wan were linked, always meant to be. Perhaps it was Luke’s turn to give back to his master. To be Chosen. (Time Travel)
Kamino Defense – Peace is restored after the war, although the work isn’t done. In response to the controversy surrounding his padawans marriage to Senator Amidala, Obi-Wan accepts a post to protect the clones and their young from power hungry warlords and greedy businessmen on Kamino while the Senate debates what to do with them.
Burned Deep – A thousand years ago, the Jedi chained themselves to the Senate and Republic and dismantled their military as a show of good faith. Now the Senate controls the Jed strictly to keep them from taking over. The Temple becomes a beautiful cage, their stringent parameters for missions a leash. In this world, when the war begins, Jedi are let loose as more of attack dogs than Generals. (Alternate Universe – Canon History Divergence)
Jumping Ages – In an attempt to use what she thinks is a Sith weapon, Ventress just ends up causing some chaos for Obi-Wan and the crew as he ends up popping in at different ages and stages of his life over the course of an unknown amount of time. The only one who doesn’t seem to be rattled is Cody. (De-Aging/Age Regression)
Padme Lives – After surviving Order 66, Padme is forced to hide away with her children, leaving Obi-Wan free to find surviving Jedi and learn about the clones’ predicament.
We Are Burning Stars - Instead of on a faraway planet, fighting the last battles of the war, Obi-Wan Kenobi is walking aside his Commander in the Jedi Temple when Order 66 hits.
Revolving Suns - Raised by Obi-Wan Kenobi, teenaged Luke Skywalker finds himself back into the Clone Wars while General Kenobi falls into an unexplainable coma.

Anakin Assists the Jedi Council While On Medical Leave
AU brainstormed primarily by @atagotiak, @gelpenss, and myself.
Basically, a fix-it based in Anakin getting a peek into the daily life on the Council early, and accidentally Figuring Some Shit Out along the way, mostly because Palps Fucks Up.
So, Anakin gets injured in a way that limits him to Coruscant for a few weeks. He can still walk and talk, but he can't fight. The specific injury doesn't matter, just this:
Anakin runs errands on behalf of the council and sits in on meetings to take minutes as a "you're on medical leave but we need all hands on deck, congrats you get to be the secretary until we can send you on stabbing missions again" thing.
Also, there just aren't a whole lot of people with Anakin's clearance level. They had to send out Stass Allie to handle the mission that was originally next on Anakin's roster, and Anakin's the most convenient person to substitute into her position.
He's not super happy about this but he can more or less understand the point of it. Given that he gets antsy about needing to fight almost immediately, he can acknowledge the worth of having something useful to do, if only as the person who's writing down who says what and making sure everyone has the right file on hand.
(Besides, Obi-Wan jokes in a way that Anakin thinks might be encouraging, this is good practice if Anakin ever wants to be on the High Council himself!)
(This is a very helpful conversation.)
BASICALLY, Anakin is resigned to this but agrees because "Usually we have Master Allie handle this but we need her running that mission that was originally set for the 501st, so you get to fill in for her until you can switch back. Think of it as training for eventual mastery or admin or--listen, we're just really stretched thin."
Here's the key thing, though: Anakin isn't supposed to leave the Temple, for medical reasons, so Palpatine doesn't know Anakin is sitting in on Council meetings. They haven't met up since Anakin's last surgery, and because [muffled hand-wave reason] he didn't find out another way, like Anakin comming him or the Council giving him the heads-up about the change in attendance.
It's fine. He's just taking notes and doing preparatory research, he has the clearance, the Chancellor likes him anyway. Hell, they'd have had someone's Padawan doing this, before the war increased the necessary clearance levels. They'll toss in a quick message in the brief they send to Palps that he never reads anyway, and that's really all they need to do. Skywalker's getting some rounded experience and this way the medics won't be freaking out about him stressing his heart after getting electrocuted by trying to spar too early.
Palpatine doesn't talk directly to the Council, he just sends a recording the first time Anakin is there. It's a bit weird, but nothing goes wrong. Anakin's off-screen from whatever device they use to send a response, since he's not technically a member, just assisting for a bit on the part of Master Allie's duties that he's actually allowed to touch (and not the bits that are getting added to Mace, Plo, and Shaak's stuff).
The first four or so meetings are like that. Anakin starts having a bit of sympathy for the Council as he sees how many things they want to do that are hampered by the need for Senatorial approval, things that he would also want to do and didn't think required this much red tape.
About a week in, still mostly recordings with Anakin just sitting on the side playing paralegal, the wheel of fortune turns a few pegs.
Palpatine hands over a an order on the range of injury that a soldier should be treated for, "to ensure that republic resources aren't being wasted on clones that, while expensive, would actually be cheaper to replace than repair."
Oh, he dresses it up in prettier language than that. Anakin doesn't process it as such first.
The Chancellor manages to couch his phrasing in "prioritizing resources for taxpaying republic citizens and employees of the GAR," which... well.
The natborn commissioned officers pay taxes. The Jedi are employees. The clones are neither, because they're slaves.
Probably he frames it as the employees thing, very much the kinda language that sounds halfway ok unless you’re fluent in political bullshit.
And Anakin is really confused at first about why the council is upset by the order because, okay, he would PREFER to be able to use medical supplies on refugees when possible, but he understands prioritizing the soldiers?
He just looks up, totally lost, when someone groans and goes, "That's the third time this year, is he trying to get us all killed?"
And it vibes as such a genuine, aggrieved, sad reaction that Anakin is completely blindsided because it's not the sarcastic, petty resentment he kind of expected? It's just... desperate depression.
And someone gently has to explain that this is the third time they've had resources restricted to only GAR employees and that it's a polite way of saying "prioritize natborn officers, stop wasting resources on clones, we can replace them easier."
Or maybe he doesn't ask, because he's just there to take notes, not argue, and he can see the masters drawing up a response that amounts to "We would like to remind you that our soldiers do not fall into that classification, and to limit their access to our medical supplies is liable to cause a loss of life that we find unreasonably high. Please see the annotations attached to adjust wording so that the clones may receive the same level of care."
Anakin's internally just like "Yeah, that's phrased nice and addresses the main problem, Palpatine will obviously agree and change it!"
And then he comes in the next day and the response comes in and it's just dripping condescension about considering the clones actual people.
"This is why we can't use the bacta tanks on clones anymore, just the patches. We could use them at first, we had a few of the CCs get through fatal injuries with them, but they cut that off and said we could only use the tanks on Jedi and non-clone officers a few months ago. The Banking Clans keep tightening their belts on the army, and the Chancellor insists we put citizens first, and the clones aren't citizens. We've been arguing back as much as we can, but he keeps going on about the economy and we can't... we just can't, Skywalker. We're trying to save as many of our men as we can, but..."
Something like "Allocation of resources reiterated, the Kaminoans have assured the senate that the Jedi are far from exhausting the resources ordered."
And Anakin's like. He can't blame the council for lying about Palpatine's past or future actions. He just saw Palpatine's actions. Those actions were to order people under his control to throw away lives he saw as replaceable commodities.
These are his friends' lives.
His soldiers are being thrown away by a man in a tower that he trusted.
And then that man has the gall to suggest it's the council's fault.
Palpatine is good at what he does, especially in public, he dresses it up in flowery language and everything, but Anakin's just like "Those are my FRIENDS and also this is??? How slavers talked about their property on Tatooine???? FRIENDPATINE, WHAT THE FUCK."
Anakin can be passive aggressive sometimes as well as outright aggressive. So if he brings up the guidelines and why they make him upset in general terms, and Palpatine says something about how he’s sad the council doesn’t care about the clones...
Anakin, internally, having just watched the council scramble to save as many clones as possible within the guidelines that Palps handed down: Uh-huh.
(Anakin is just the gay horror teeth gif from queer eye.)
Tumblr media
Just. “Yeah, funny you say that, Palpatine! Because as I remember, you told the council not to waste more resources than necessary while Mace Windu was arguing to expand the treatment range!”
Palps doesn't even have time to salvage the situation or attack Anakin because Anakin just bulldoze rants for fifteen minutes and then storms out.
Anakin... maybe does a little treason and gets a copy of the orders so he can ask Padme "Hey, can you explain the politics of this?" and doesn't tell her who wrote it so she isn't biased (he tells her that this is why he's not sharing the author's/speaker's name), and just lets Padme pick apart all the 'this is a nice way of saying they don't view the clones as people' details.
Alternately, someone on the Council sees Anakin dithering and manages to get him to admit that he's not great at political language and wants to ask someone to help him understand the full implications. The person--Mace? let's go with Mace--is aware that Anakin is on good terms with Senator Amidala, if not necessarily aware of the depth of said relationship. Mace points out that he's probably going to be seeing her soon just because he usually does and, as a Senator, she can get easy access to these sessions since they're not about specific missions, just allocation of resources, etc. It's not an optimal solution, but she's got a bit more free time than anyone else Anakin knows with the clearance levels, like Order members that are actively involved in the war effort.
Anakin dithers and panics and Mace, trying to be helpful, tells him that plenty of Jedi have made friends among the Senate over the years, didn't you know Qui-Gon Jinn was a personal friend of Former Chancellor Valorum?
At any rate, Anakin goes to Padme and asks her to explain it to him, because she knows how to phrase things so he gets it.
Anakin has to have her pause and he goes outside and destroys some things halfway through.
(Anakin maybe thinks back to the times Padmé or Obi-Wan were really obviously frustrated and when he asked, they said stuff like “I can’t stand Palpatine rn, sorry Anakin I know he’s important to you and you don’t want to talk about politics, let’s just talk about something else.”)
(Obi-Wan: I don’t trust Palpatine Anakin: you just don’t like politicians in general Obi-Wan: yes that is also true)
(Obi-Wan does like Bail and Padme but he does also talk a bit about how politicians generally aren’t to be trusted.)

Note
Catch me thinking about sith Anakin who got in a fight w/ Palps (did Palps cross a line? Did Anakin decide he had nothing to lose? Idk), barely managed to win and is now seriously hurting and a little freaked out winding up outside Obi-wan's quarters and Obi-wan doesn't have time to draw his saber let alone figure out how a sith lord managed to get so far into the jedi temple unnoticed and Force is that blood? before Anakin's passing out with only a murmered request for help.
LISTEN you can’t keep sending me perfect prompts, how do you know I can’t resist bloody men on their knees begging for salvation, how do you know me so well??? anyway here’s 2.3k of always-a-sith!Anakin who could have been the new ruler of the empire but said ‘no thanks, this is too much responsibility, I would like to be pampered by my favourite jedi now’ (with a bit of Ahsoka as Obi-Wan’s padawan!)
He didn’t mean to kill him.
Well, not at first.
He didn’t mean to kill Sidious, but pulling his lightsaber from his lifeless corpse only felt like complete satisfaction. A weight on his shoulders he didn't know he carried disappeared, letting him stand up above the body of his master— former master, and gaze upon what was left of him. A shapeless form on the ground. A dark cape around an old man playing at being a god. A begging mess of futile promises when he realised it was the end for him.
As mindless fury leaves him, his ragged breathing slows down and his fist unclenches around his saber. Sidious is dead. Now that the adrenaline rush is gone, his knees start shaking. His Master is dead. His face is wet with sweat and blood and tears. Dead and now Anakin has no one.
And then...  And then fear.
"You know," Ahsoka groans as the water starts boiling, "I don't understand how you got your reputation of Cool Jedi Master. Other padawans think I'm lying when I tell them you wear the ugliest slippers at home and gets excited by new tisanes."
"You gifted me those slippers."
"As a joke. And you still wear them."
"I'm not going to throw away perfectly good slippers." Obi-Wan wiggles his toes under the red and yellow fuzzy monstrosities, just to see his padawan rolls her eyes. "And they're really comfortable."
"So you're just going to stay there, then? Your whole battalion is out celebrating our first day of leave since forever, but you prefer to drink your tea alone and go to bed at 22:00?"
"No one wants an authority figure around when they're letting loose and celebrating, Ahsoka," Obi-Wan says, pouring hot water in his cup. He raises the kettle towards his padawan as a question, to which she shakes her head. "I thought you would be happy to see me putting sleep before work for once."
"I am, Master, but I thought it could be..." She trails off, fidgeting with the hilt of her sabers. For once, she looks like a typical padawan, just like he was at her age, dying to enjoy one night away from the temple and any kind of responsibilities.
"It's alright my dear," he sighs, "you can join them if you want."
Ahsoka suddenly perks up. "I can?"
"If you're old enough to be sent to the front, I think you can handle yourself for one night on Coruscant."
"Thank you Master! I promise I'll be careful and not come back too late!"
"You do that, and-- wait, Ahsoka," he adds as she's already halfway through the door, "make sure to stay around Cody! And no alcohol of any kind! And don't lose your lightsaber at sabacc again!"
"That was you!" she yells from the end of the corridor, "don't worry, I'll be fine! Don't wait for me to go to bed! Goodnight Master!"
Obi-Wan smiles, blowing on his cup. He already sent a message to Cody earlier to keep an eye on her, so he knows she's in good hands.
He has his herbal tea, his ugly slippers, no reports to read or write, and no immediate Separatist menace to plan for. For once, a perfectly good night to catch up on sleep and meditation.
So, of course, something has to be wrong.
The Force is bright. The Force is lighter than it has ever been for the past few years.
And Obi-Wan can't understand why.
It's not just him that can feel it: Ahsoka has acted chipper since, more like the teenager she is, laughing with the clones and playfully teasing him the whole fly back to Coruscant. The temple has felt livelier than ever when they arrived, Jedi from all ages going about their day with a new spring in their step, greeting each other warmly in the corridors. Even Master Yoda has taken a few minutes during their Council meeting to note the shift in the Force. No Master could pinpoint the origin of this change, but all agreed that something good happened somewhere in the galaxy, and they were just feeling ripples of the effect in the Force.
Still now, the whole temple feels a bit more like it used to, before the war, and all Jedi are a bit happier without knowing why.
Only Obi-Wan feels like a noose tightening around him. Whatever it is, it's slowing making its way around his presence in the Force. Focusing on him and him alone. Doesn't matter how much Obi-Wan tries to hide himself, it's getting closer and never slowing down or losing interest.
Needless to say, Obi-Wan has a bad feeling about this.
But after almost three years of war, sullen faces and grim expressions, he doesn't feel like dampening the sudden good mood around the Temple just with a few words. He can probably deal with whatever it is by himself.
His tisane is cold when he finally emerges from his meditation. Nothing is clearer than when he started: the Force is deaf to his questions and inquiries, still light as a breeze. An airy unconcern for his restlessness. And yet, a thick pressure still looms around him, getting heavier each passing second now.
His fingers start pulling on his collar.
The clock on the wall indicates that he lied to Ahsoka when he said he was going to bed at a respectable time today. No diurnal Jedi would still be up right now, but he still considers going out to knock at Mace's door. Narrowed eyes and a very long sigh will be his first answer, but Obi-Wan knows that Mace would never refuse to hear him out. Yes, he finally decides when the pressure seems to creep even closer to him, it's worth waking up Mace.
He opens his door, wondering if he should take his robe with him, and instantly stops walking.
There, in the empty corridor of the Jedi Temple, at his door and on his knees, is a Sith. He knows it's a Sith only because he recognises this specific mass of hair, the large shoulders, the dishevelled dark robe. He knows it's a Sith because he has crossed path with this one enough times on the battlefield to recognise him anywhere. Outside of it a few times too. He isn't sure it's a Sith when the Sith raises his head up, bloody and bruised face torn in an agonizing expression, and his eyes are blue.
"I— I didn't know where to go," Darth Vader says quietly, with the kind of voice expected from a lost child. It gives Obi-Wan a second shock to hear his voice, making his presence suddenly real. "You said... You said if I ever wanted to, if I needed help one day, you would— I could—"
Obi-Wan remembers it. He remembers all the times he offered his help. His pleas for him to stop the violence, the appeals to reason, the multiple suggestions of a gentler path. His hand continuously outreached but never taken. He remembers the burning gold of the Sith's eyes too, and his black cape floating above the dead clones at his feet.
His laughter the first time Obi-Wan brought up the idea of lowering their blades and talking around a cup of tea. His sneer the third time Obi-Wan tried to change his misconceptions about the Jedi Order and play-flirt with him in the same breath. The silence the fifth time Obi-Wan asked him his name, his real name, the one a parent gave him.
The tears the last time he gave it to him.
"And you're always trying to save me," Vader adds more forcefully now, like the words anger him, "you're always here, showing up almost every time I'm sent somewhere with your stupid smile and stupid words, and you're always nice, and... and teasing, and disappointed when I kill someone, like you expect me to be better, and I don't understand you, but..."
Vader raises his hand towards him, and it's only this sudden move that shakes Obi-Wan out of his stupor. Before the Sith can touch his leg, Obi-Wan calls his lightsaber to him, ignites it in one fluid motion, half-expecting Vader to be up and swaying his saber in his face by now. But the Sith is still on his knees, and it's only now that the blue light of his blade is above him that Obi-Wan realises the state he's in. His face isn't the only thing bruised and battered: his dark tunic is stained with blood and ripped in more than one place, one of his arms is bent in an unnatural way, and it looks like a cut above his hairline is still bleeding, making his curls stick to his face in a mess of wet hair and burned skin.
"Vader," Obi-Wan says slowly, when his thoughts finally regain a semblance of coherence. A rapid investigation through the Force assures him that no other enemy is around and the calm and quiet of the night in the Temple isn't a prequel for a storm. "How did you get in here? What are you doing here? How—"
Vader's hand, stuck in the space between them, reaches once again for Obi-Wan. Foolishly, Obi-Wan lets him. His fingers twist themselves in the fabric of his pants.
"He made me killed them all.” Vader wobbles on his knees for a second, the hand on Obi-Wan's leg gripping it tighter. “No platoons, no battle droids. Just me. He sent me to the power station and I cut through them so easily, so quickly, they didn't even fight back, and I didn't think that..." he trails off, panting. "Until.... until I saw the electro-whips."
"Are you talking about Naphtla?" he asks when Vader doesn't seem to be able to continue.
Naphtla. Outer Rim. Barely on the Republic radar until this afternoon, when nearby troops answered a distress signal and found a hidden Separatist power station operated by slaves. A third of them were dead, killed only a few hours before, and the survivors turned to the Republic for immediate support. Slaughtered like animals, the rescue team reported to the Council only a few hours ago, by one single man wielding a red lightsaber. According to witnesses, the darksider cut through the slaves like bantha butter, killing everyone in his path without discrimination, until he stopped for no apparent reason and abruptly left.
"You were the one who killed the people at the station there," Obi-Wan realises out loud, horrified, "the slaves from Zygerria."
Vader snaps his head up and his fingers tighten painfully around Obi-Wan's knee. "I DIDN'T KNOW!"
All Obi-Wan's senses and logical thoughts urge him to back out, put an end to this nonsensical charade, raise his lightsaber between them, get away from the dark, hungry void Vader generates in the Force.
But his eyes are looking up to him. Gripping his gaze with the same intensity as his hand on his leg. Bloodied face and pleading, on his knees. Full of tears.
Obi-Wan doesn't push Vader's hand away.
"I didn't know they were slaves, I didn't!"
"Vader."
"He never said! He sent me without telling him, he knows I don't—" A small noise sounding suspiciously like a sob swallows the rest of his words.
"Vader, who sent—"
"When I came back," he tries again, quieter. Obi-Wan opens his mouth to ask about this he, but Vader's head lolls for a second, too heavy to support, before butting gently against Obi-Wan's leg. Vader makes no effort to move, content to stay there, and after a second, a small, almost timid nuzzle against his thigh sends a series of shivers through Obi-Wan's spine. It shuts him up instantly. "When I came back, he looked at me for so, so long, before saying that he knew, he knew I was going to fail, that I was... just like them after all, and that I could never... And I was so mad, so angry at him, so I... I..."
The last words are muffled by the fabric Vader clings to. Hides into. There's blood on Obi-Wan's pants now.
"What have you done, Vader?" Obi-Wan asks, softer than he intended. "Vader," he asks again when no reply comes, without success. The hand not holding his lightsaber moves, hesitates for a moment, then settles lightly on Vader's hair, mindful not to touch any open wounds. His fingers nudge him to tip his head back, gently, carefully, and settle on his cheek to hold his face up, looking at him. "Anakin." His name, his true name, makes him blink a few times. "Anakin, what have you done?"
"I killed him," he finally admits, barely audible. He looks exhausted, more like a child in need of rest than ever.
"Who did you kill?"
"My master."
"Dooku? You killed Dooku?"
"No," Vader— Anakin frowns, like Obi-Wan should know better. "Sidious."
It's a bit much to process in one day. Another Sith Lord, Vader's master, concealed and kept a secret, now dead, killed by his apprentice —and does that make Vader the ruling Sith Lord now? Do Sith have rulers?— the lightness in the Force the same day, a half-dead Vader begging for help in the middle of the night in the Jedi Temple, and all of that while Obi-Wan is still wearing his ugly slippers.
He's so glad he sent Ahsoka away for the night.
Anakin doesn't let him time to feel the migraine coming.
"I can't do it, I can't be my master, I can't— and Dooku hates me, he will never help me, even if I let him have it all, he will never..." Vader seems to run out of steam, and lets his eyes close as his head falls once again against Obi-Wan's thigh. Closer. "You said you could help me. You said I could come to you at any time. You said you would always be there if I didn't want to... do this, anymore."
"I did," Obi-Wan assures him, his hand lightly petting his hair again.
Anakin lets out a long breath. His fingers tighten on the fabric of Obi-Wan's pants, loosen, and tighten again.
"You're the only one I trust," the Sith quietly tells the Jedi, and it's the saddest thing Obi-Wan has ever heard.

Could you talk more about your gumbo jar jar au or the frog one? 🐸
hm on close review the frog promise draft is a now redundant drabble from this au. Here it is in its entirety:
“I will never join you,” Luke said with a sneer of disgust.
Palpatine, as well as the nearby politicians, Jedi masters, and reporters were taken aback.
“I’m afraid I don’t understand your meaning, Master Jedi,” the Senator said incredulously. “Do you mean to tell me that you consider yourself separate from the Republic? I know the Jedi Council had disavowed recognizing you but I never could have imagined...” he trailed off, leaving the crowd to murmur in alarm.
“I mean I will never join the Sith,” the rogue master replied calmly. “I imagine you’re responsible for the traces of the dark side I felt amongst the trade federation leaders.”
“The Sith...I see.” Palpatine took a step back, deliberately reassuring tone and alarmed expression clearly indicated that he suspected the man before him of insanity. “It’s been a very long day and you clearly intended to do good by my humble home world. Perhaps your fellow Jedi can take you to the healers so you can-”
“Why are you working alongside a Sith Lord?” Luke cut off the Senator and addressed Grandmaster Yoda directly.
“A Sith Lord, you say?” Master Yoda replied. “A most serious allegation, this is.”
Basically, Luke derails the Naboo Crisis by absolutely annihilating the trade federation army, only realizing after the fact when and where he is. This means that Padme turns right around from Tatooine and never voices her vote of no-confidence. Now, Palpatine probably had contingency plans in place, but the public accusation by a Jedi of being responsible for the crisis in the first place, despite absolutely no evidence, hurts his image enough that he’s not going to win a vote, because people will think it’s a power grab.
And it’s funny cause it’s true but Luke only barely knows that! He’s just accusing Palpatine of being behind the first evil thing he sees and he fuckin happens to be right!!!
Anyway Luke doesn’t focus on Palpatine; there are like 10,000 other Jedi around. He commits himself first and foremost to completing his training with Master Yoda because sometime Yoda just dies and fades into thin air so, you know! He’s not going to procrastinate on that again!
He goes before the council and humbly asks to be taken on Yoda’s student (this is right before Qui-Gon can ask about Anakin- literally, Anakin and Qui-Gon are in the waiting room). He gives several extremely vague banthashit explanations of who he is ‘I’m a follower of the Force,’ where he comes from ‘the Force sent me,’ and why they should train him when he’s way too old ‘the Force willed it.’ Yoda is somewhat impressed because those are some real unhelpfully wise answers and- here’s the kicker- Luke actually believes them!
He is really committed to being a Jedi! Is 110% all about being a luminous being! This is several years after return of the Jedi and Luke has pretty much just been hanging out in force temples meditating with ghosts so he has quintessential Jedi vibes, he just knows jackshit about anything!
What really clinches it for Yoda is the fact that his robe pocket starts squirming and he pulls out a live Nabooian Salt Frog. And hands it to Yoda like, “These are one of your favorites right? :) I saw it and I thought of you :)”
Now Yoda- let’s step back a second. Yoda is old. Yoda, in his youth, was a bit more feral. He’s a top level predator and the order has always celebrated diversity and being true to your origins! He’s hunted with Tortugans on Shili! He’s unhinged his jaw with Besalisks on Ojom!
But as the Republic’s boundaries caved in on themselves, he was more and more put into contact with Core senators who tend to be unnerved by more, ah, carnivorous tendencies. And the more he was put into high level positions by virtue of being really frickin old, the more restrained he became in his public behavior.
Decades passed and younglings who only ever knew his more ‘harmless-prank’ feral tendencies were increasingly shocked and scared to see him occasionally unhinge his jaw to eat a scrocodile whole. Some of the prey-origin younglings from that field trip actually avoided him for the rest of the their lives.
So. Yoda is still a carnivore- but- in private. With his padawans and his closest peers. But his closest peers age and die and his padawans get younger and smaller as the decades pass. He took on two herbivorous padawans in a row and as a result restrained himself from openly hunting with another soul for around for 50 years.
And then there’s Dooku. ‘Ah a human,’ he thinks. ‘They hunt sometimes. Well. They’re omnivores at least.’
And Dooku is- and I’m not saying this to shame Dooku- but he’s prissy. He likes...neatness. He’s not afraid of violence but force forbid it’s untidy. So when Yoda, excited to get his ambush predation on, takes 14 year old Dooku who’s barely ever left the sterile confines of Coruscant on a trip to a swamp world- yeaaahh it doesn’t go well. Dooku- he doesn’t mean to, honestly. How would he even know that Yoda might be sensitive about things? He’s Yoda.
But Dooku sobbing openly and puking a little in a bush and running away from Yoda because his Master is terrifying and gross. It... kind of puts the nail in the coffin for Yoda being open about that side of himself. He doesn’t really have it in him to try again. People’s view of him is too fixed, they can’t handle him also being a flesh creature so he focuses on the luminous side of him which is and always was, genuinely, more important than him.
And that’s been the last 100 years or so. The thrill of a live kill is just a little piece of himself that he meditates away and that’s ok. He has the force. He has the order. He’s old anyway, a real hunt would probably hurt his joints.
And then in comes Luke, radiating Light and earnestness and Jedi serenity while also holding out a very tasty looking live frog. And Yoda realizes Dooku’s not around, he’s surrounded by a council he trusts and respects and likes, none of whom are 14 year olds, all of whom have seen the galaxy and seen worse. He is almost seizing the moment but there’s a little part of him that shriveled up when Dooku cried that’s having a hard time accepting this.
“Want it for yourself, you do not?” Yoda cackles, playing off the offer.
Luke smiles sheepishly and pulls out another live frog. “I was saving it for later. Forgive me Master, your senses are keen as ever I see.”
And Yoda...it’s not about the bribe, really, so much as the symbolism, and it’s not about the flattery either, but darn is the kid really pulling out the stops to make himself likable. And he is a kid, to Yoda anyway. Everyone is these days. What does he care about numbers when there’s a boy smiling like his third padawan, an adorable Rodian who took great delight in their more amphibious and wild missions?
Yoda snatches one of the frogs and slowly raises it in a parody of a toast. Luke does the same. The rest of the council quietly watches in various shades of bewilderment and bemusement.
They’re not actually going to eat that right? Mace thinks. Ugh I hate frogs the skin is so slimy. Shaak Ti thinks. I cannot believe they’re not even offering me one. Yaddle thinks.
And Yoda bites the head off the frog in a quick snap of his jaws, the rest following rapidly. Luke does the same- a slight assist from the force helping his less specialized mandible tear through skin and bone in a well practiced move. He chews slower, but finishes the frog soon enough, the rest of the council looking on with deep uncertainty and a tiny bit of hunger, but no actual fear. They’re Jedi Masters; they’ve eaten everywhere, it’s just a little weird for a human to be eating a live animal and Yoda as far as anyone knew only ate stew and also they were in the middle of a council meeting.
Yoda belches and Luke smiles genially.
“Take you on as my padawan learner, I will. Much to learn you have, much to teach you, I do.”
Luke beams. The council looks on in shock.
“Master Yoda,” Mace Windu says hesitantly, “He’s clearly in his late 20s, at the earliest. If this is about the... frog thing-”
“Was a pleasant surprise, the frog. The reason for my decision, it is not. Had some training already, he has. Know each other before this day, we do. Taking over for a Master passed into the force, I am merely. Our custom, this is.”
Luke bows lowly and an initiate is summoned to escort him to the quartermasters and then the long-empty padawan suite next to Yoda’s chambers.
Qui-Gon and Anakin are brought in and. Well. It’s a little hard for them to simply reject the boy after Yoda just pulled that stunt. He’s sent to the initiates dorm, eventually. Mace Windu has a headache from the shatterpoints blinking in and out of existence. Shaak Ti is delighted to discuss a hunting trip with Master Yoda and his new padawan learner Luke Svader.
The force dances.
