Missed Dates.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
(I do not own any photos used, credit to original owners)
Bucky arranges a date for you both on the day he comes back from a mission, a date that he doesn't remember. Unfortunately, it's the straw that breaks the camel's back.
AN: Hello how are we all? sorry for not posting yesterday. I’ve got a limited amount of drafts and I wanna spread them before I run out of content.
Pairing: Bucky x Reader
Warnings: Bucky done be neglecting his bf duties.
Word count: around 918 (where'd they come from?)
(Bucky ever looked at my like that I’d be on my knees)
Tumblr media
Bucky has been busy with missions again. His pardon was never really a pardon, more of a we’ll forgive you if you do our dirty work. You can’t remember the last time he’d spent more than 2 weeks with you and in those 2 weeks, he was constantly being called away to meetings or other things.
The distance was becoming unbearable, you loved Bucky you really did but the time away from him was putting a wedge between you two. You’re last date night you’d dressed up all nice for him, he would be arriving back in New York around 5 pm, you had warned him about organising a date after a long mission— especially with his sleep pattern— but he brushed you off with a sweet kiss and honey-toned words.
When his heavy feet stomped into the apartment you knew he was tired, what you didn’t expect was for him to flop onto the couch and go to sleep. You checked the time, 4.45 pm, you were never making your reservation.
You heaved a sigh and swallowed the thick slew of emotions bubbling up your throat as you turned on your heel to take off the stupid dress.
That morning he’d woke up, brewed you both a coffee and said not a word about your missed date yesterday, usually he’d apologise for sleeping without so much as a hello and you told him there was no need but something about him completely glossing over the fact he hadn’t even mentioned your unsuccessful date— the first in over 2 months.
“Everything alright sweetheart?” His brows furrowed and his words cautious at the sight of your sour face, clearly you hadn’t been hiding your emotions very well, and the sound of his voice had anger washing over you
“Everything’s peachy” you spat, noticing instantly how his face turned to one of confusion, then anger.
“Hey, what’s your problem?” One of Bucky’s flaws was how defensive he got easily. You were rarely angry with him so to have you hiss at him, his guard was raised instantly.
“My problem!? I should be asking you, what’s your problem Bucky?” The words felt so foreign like they weren’t falling from your mouth. Bucky thought so too.
“I didn’t have a problem until you got all pissy, why?” He retorted, his jaw and fists clenching to suppress the urge to raise his voice.
“You wanna know why? Fine! Two fucking months we haven’t been on a date and when I get dressed up for you, after warning you about organising a date straight after you came off a plane, you sank your ass right on that couch and slept. I should’ve known Bucky I really should’ve” You stormed off to your shared bedroom, the slamming of the wood wasn’t the cause of Bucky’s flinch.
He’d forgotten all about you, you’d done your best for him and he’d completely disregarded it, he felt like the biggest piece of shit in the world.
He had to think of how to make it up to you.
An hour later there was a soft knock on the door, startling you awake. You rubbed at your sensitive eyes— you’d cried yourself to sleep because of the guilt you felt shouting at Bucky. You knew the risk of him being unable to do certain things due to missions and such was extremely high, you knew his sleep pattern was the worst leading him to stay awake days at a time, yet you still screamed at him.
You had every right to advocate for your needs but you couldn’t help that sinking feeling in your stomach.
A second knock pulled you from your trance “Hey…. Sweetheart, can I come in?” His voice was muffled by the door but you could tell he shared the same emotions as you.
“Y-yeah” you mentally cursed your hoarse throat.
Bucky entered holding a white box and a bag, his eyes looking slightly red and his shoulders slumped. Gently he took a seat next to you, far enough away that it hurt, you felt like you’d pushed him that far.
“Look I’m really sorry I forgot about yesterday, you warned me and I didn’t listen… I’ve booked us again for tomorrow if you’re up for it” he explained, flashing you his nervous smile.
“Didn’t you have-“
“I called in, let them know I was taking time off for some private reasons” he interrupted, his hand hovering over the white box he’d now placed between you on the bed. He opened it gently, his smile growing as he did. Inside was a cake, with cursive fondant.
‘I’m so sorry I’m an ass’
You couldn’t help but laugh at the decoration, your laugh drawing a chuckle from him as well
“I uhh also bought some snacks, I was thinking we could watch that movie you wanted to see” he spoke as his laughter died down, now replaced with a slight shyness.
Bucky might be a man with many flaws, yes sometimes he prioritised his work over you and he really tried to balance you both but sometimes it got too much. You had to admit though, the man truly knew the way to his woman’s heart.
“So?” He questioned, his fingers tapping his knee as his ocean blue eyes darted over your face.
“Aww Buck… I love you”
He smiled widely, relief pooling in his veins. leaning over he kissed you deeply.
“You know… you gotta make up for shouting at me” he mumbled against your lips.
This man. He was lucky he was cute.

THE URGE TO MAKE THIS AN ANGST AHHHH.
You guys are soo lucky I can’t write angst. I hope you enjoyed my 5am thoughts xx

2013, Circuit de Monaco
"Happy Birthday sister!"Mark greeted on the other line "Am I the last one to greet you?"
Despite the afternoon horizons outside the window of Y/N, she was still in her bed. Usually she doesn't like waking up with calls but Mark's greeting was something that she can tolerate today.
"You are the first, I just woke up"Y/N replied.
"Woke up? Are you back in London?"Mark's confusion was evident.
"I'm actually here in Monaco"Y/N clarified "I had a late flight so I was a bit tired so I woke up here at around.. oh its 4 in the afternoon"
In hindsight, she should have set an alarm so she didn't miss out a huge chunk of hours sleeping. However, she was exhausted from packing and taking care of things before she left Spain. She wanted a complete break for her birthday that's why she overworked herself to ensure everything can function without her.
"How long are you staying there?"Mark wondered.
"Till the Monaco GP so I have 2 weeks to enjoy Monaco's waters"
"You have a good one there sis"
"Thanks Mark"
"Happy Birthday again, I wish you all the best" Mark added "And if you want to buy anything, just tell me and I'll pay for it"
"Mark, you didn't have to do that"
There was a sigh on the other line. Mark knows how much Y/N values to work for the money that she spends that's why she doesn't like spending money that she didn't own.
"Just let me be Y/N, I missed a huge part of your life because I was immature"Mark explains "Just let me do this for you, okay?"
The whole brother-sister relationship is still mending. It was already one of the best gifts that Y/N could have asked. These moments are just some instances that they tried to make up with each other.
"Okay, I won't buy anything expensive though"Y/N compromises.
"That's tough in Monaco"
It earned a shared laughter between the two. It was obviously common knowledge that Monaco's cost of living and the items displayed on the store could cost a month's worth of fortune.
"You take care okay? I'll call you later when I still have time"Mark said
"Thanks big bro"
When Y/N ended the call, there were several messages from different people. She felt inclined to thank them for their greetings and for remembering her birthday so she spent the next few minutes texting them back.
She already had a voicemail from Mick, a painfully long message from Jenson, even some Team Principals sent a message to her. Their greetings made her feel so loved.
However, there is this void feeling upon realizing that there is someone missing.
Y/N: Hey goodmorning! Are you okay? I'm leaving tonight for Monaco maybe we could grab some lunch later? Away from the media and everything. Miss you a lot x Y/N: Heyyyy so I heard from Britta you had a night out so maybe you are suffering a hangover. Let's just resched lunch? Y/N: Btw I gave her some hangover medicines that Jenson claims to be magic when he is hung over. I hope everything is alright xx
The messages from yesterday remains unread by Sebastian. It was a bit disappointing that she wasn't able to talk to Sebastian at all during the Spanish GP. She knew how it must have been difficult weekend for him.
I'm sure he will call, Y/N assures herself.
The grumbling in her stomach caused her to remember that she hasn't eaten yet. Y/N opened her luggages and decided to get dressed to get her first meal of the day.
There was a perfect cafe spot that was just right the corner of her hotel. It also has a perfect view of the yachts parked in Monaco, Y/N couldn't think of another perfect place to eat.
She was enjoying herself when all of a sudden someone called out her name.
"Y/N?" for a moment, Y/N wanted to think that it was Sebastian calling her.
But she knew that this voice was a little bit too different to be Sebastian. Sebastian has a certain kind of accent that pronounces her name in a certain tone regardless of his emotions.
"Jules?"she recognized the driver.
It was not often that she have interacted with Jules a lot but he was a friendly face in the paddock. He has always been a gentleman to women and he is one of those drivers that isn't a PR nightmare.
Jules made a beeline to Y/N, he was followed by a younger boy with a mop of brown hair.
"I thought it was you"Jules smiles "And I was right. What are you doing in Monaco?"
"Oh, I'm celebrating my birthday today"Y/N replied
"Wow, I didn't know that. Happy Birthday then Y/N" Jules greeted.
"Thanks, how about you why are you in Monaco? It's a bit too early for the GP"Y/N joked.
"Oh I'm here with my godson"Jules gestured to the young boy "Y/N meet Charles, Charles meet Y/N. Y/N here is from McLaren and is the one in charge of Jenson"
Y/N handed out her hand and Charles shyly picked it up to shake it.
"I'm Charles Leclerc, its nice to meet you Miss Y/N" he greeted back.
The boy had a certain smile that if Y/N was not informed earlier then she would have mistaken him as his younger brother. She could tell that if Charles gets a little bit older then he might looks strikingly similar to Jules.
"That's a very polite boy, you two look very much alike"Y/N noticed.
"Yeah-"
Jules phone starts ringing and he seems troubled to see the caller ID.
"Is it alright if you could look after Charles for a while"Jules asked "I have this really important call and it might take a while"
"Yeah sure!"Y/N agrees.
"Thanks, you are an angel! Be good Charles, I'll try to make this quick"
Jules stepped out of a cafe and began speaking to the one of the phone. Charles and Y/N were left at the cafe, the boy looks a bit lost in Y/N's opinion.
"You can sit there and you can tell me about yourself"Y/N offered.
He nods and he immediately took the chair next to her.
"Would you like something to drink or something to eat?"Y/N asked.
"I can't eat much, I have to be lightweight to be able to drive faster"Charles responded.
"You race too?"
"I kart around here and there, Jules has been teaching me a lot"Charles confirmed.
Y/N takes a sip of her hot chocolate as she smiles. When they started talking about racing, Charles certainly changed his attitude. Aspirers like Charles are quite exciting to watch because she knows that with their determination then she might end up seeing him in the grid in a couple of years.
"My brother drives too, his name is Mark"Y/N shares.
Charles' eyes widen in recognition. He went closer to Y/N with an excited smile.
"Mark as in Mark Webber? The teammate of current world champion Sebastian Vettel"Charles enumerates excitedly.
"You know your Grand Prix winners"Y/N notes.
"I think I know more about them than school"
This made Y/N laugh. It was not uncommon that F1 drivers drop out early of school so they could race. For this reason, they don't seem to have a life outside of the sports. Sebastian is a good example of how the man has been a walking encyclopedia of Formula 1. You could ask him the Grand Prix winner of 1978 and he could tell you it was Andretti without missing a beat. But ask him about the current president of America and he won't give you any answers.
"Sebastian is one of my idols, I wish he is still there when I drive in F1"Charles wishful thinking.
The thought of Sebastian crosses her mind again, her smile obviously falters upon checking her phone for the umpteenth time today.
"You seem to be sad today" Charles noticed "Shouldn't you be happy that its your birthday?"
She forces a smile.
"Its nothing, I'm just waiting for someone's birthday greeting"Y/N brushes it off.
"Is it your bestfriend?"Charles pressed "If my bestfriend forgot my birthday then I would be very upset as well"
Bestfriends? Soon lovers? The relationship is a bit complicated but either way Y/N understands Charles statement that its indeed upsetting when a special someone forgets. However, due to Y/N's closeness with Sebastian she is willing to make up excuses for his forgetfulness.
"He must have been busy, work hasn't been quite easy for him lately"Y/N reasons out.
As if on cue, Charles rolled his eyes. Gone was the shy boy from a while ago as he leaned closer to the table.
"You shouldn't make work as an excuse"Charles rebutted "Jules said that even if you have a bad race or a bad day, you should never take that out to the people important to you"
It was a good advice that Jules has given Charles. Y/N was sure that one day, Charles will be able to give himself a perfect work-life balance in the future.
"Believe me Charles, he is not usually like that"Y/N defends again "Maybe he is just caught up in some stuffs"
"Suit yourself but just remember that if he wanted to then he definitely would"
The words lingered in Y/N's mind even after Jules picked up Charles and the two said goodbye. It was something that kept repeating in her mind as she mindlessly walked the streets of Monaco and watched the skyline go dark.
Sebastian must have a reason for forgetting her birthday, didn't he?
2013, Circuit Gilles-Villeneuve
As a driver, they should not stay up late the night before the race. They must have a clear head so that they can focus on the task ahead. Any sort of pressure or stress may be detrimental to their performance.
Lately, Sebastian has been feeling all sorts of pressure. A lot has happened lately.
"You look like you had a lot of things going on"Jenson walks next to him.
"Aren't you supposed to avoid me at all cost?"Sebastian questioned.
"I mean we're not going to get caught if you don't tell anyone"Jenson grins "So what's on your mind?"
The heavy sigh that Sebastian has been keeping in finally gets out in the open. He doesn't even know where to begin with his story. Should he be completely honest or is this something that he has to sugarcoat to lessen the blow?
"A lot of things"Sebastian stated.
Jenson opened his arms wide and gestured that he is a person that Sebastian could confide him.
"Come on Sebastian, I'd like to think we're friends. Come on, lay it out on me"Jenson encourages.
The thing that Jenson doesn't understand is that Sebastian is wary of the information he gives out to him. He still doesn't know how to deal with Y/N and Jenson may say the wrong thing and it falls all over from Sebastian.
"I made several mistakes" that was one way of putting it lightly.
"Mistakes can be fixed"
"But I fear this mistake can't be fixed"Sebastian argued "No sorrys can fix this thing"
"Hey if this is about you missing out on Y/N's birthday then don't worry. I'm sure you could say that you have been preoccupied and she would understand that. You know she doesn't even make a big of a deal that we miss out her birthday-"Jenson was explaining.
Then it hits Sebastian. It was June.
"Oh fuck"
If Sebastian could just hit himself all over the wall then he would have done it all night long. He can't believe that he forgot about her birthday. He did not just forgot the birth date but even the birth month. He felt extremely stupid.
"You mean to tell me that forgetting her birthday is not the mistake were talking about?"Jenson pieced out the puzzle.
"Fuck, I am so fucking stupid"Sebastian lamented.
"What else did you do then?"Jenson inquired.
"Just something stupid"
Sebastian is at a lost of words before on how to explain his situation but with this new dilemma then its even more stressful. How can he tell her that he was so drunk that he slept with someone else that night in Spain. He couldn't tell the worst part that it was with someone that the both of them know. That the whole reason why he was occupied and forgot her birthday because he was trying to keep the situation quiet.
The comforting pat on the back from Jenson brought Sebastian out of his thoughts.
"You just got to be honest with her, I'm sure Y/N will understand"Jenson assures.
There was a voice in Sebastian's head that is telling him that this was something that any woman cannot understand.
"Y/N loves you a lot. You have to trust that her love is strong to understand you"Jenson stated.
Sebastian could just give a weak smile. The guilty feeling is eating him up more than ever. What did he ever do to deserve her love?
"Tell you what, I'll make some arrangements in the next Grand Prix. I'll make sure to keep McLaren occupied and you two could go spend time with each other"Jenson added.
"You would do that?"
"Of course, anything for Y/N"Jenson replied "Just don't make her cry, I hate seeing her cry"
Too overwhelmed by emotions and planning what to do next week, Sebastian failed to notice the smile that Jenson had on his face. If he paid attention then he would notice that Jenson was also as troubled with thoughts for a certain girl.
With a heavy sigh, Jenson keeps his true feelings at bay.
2013, Silverstone Circuit
It was already midnight when she arrived at her flat. Y/N was a bit tired and she was so glad that the race was happening in Silverstone so she has a few days in the comforts of her home. She was ready to hit the bed when she heard noises coming inside her apartment.
'Did I forget to lock the doors when I left?' she wondered in her head.
She quickly armed herself up by putting up her bag in a defensive manner and her phone hovering to the emergency number.
"Mein Gott! Why is this so difficult to do?"the voice from inside the apartment shouted.
She knows that voice a little too well. But Y/N couldn't believe that he would be here waiting for her.
"Sebastian? What are you-"
Seeing Sebastian Vettel in the kitchen with an apron was the least shocking thing that Y/N saw in her flat. The living room decorated by some balloons and a bouquet of flowers was placed there. Sebastian was tending over a cake that seems to be in the process of being coated with icing. The table was filled with some food that seems to be homemade.
"Hey, I know I have been a jerk recently but I'm here to apologize"Sebastian explains "Jenson stole your duplicate key and I prepared these little welcome dinner and I hope to get back to your good graces"
Something so domestic about the whole thing that Y/N's weeks of sadness immediately disappeared into thin air. She went to give him the biggest hug and she felt like the pieces are being glued back together.
"I missed you so much"she admitted.
"Its been a while"
"I really missed you"she confirms again "Please don't leave me like that again"
The way that Sebastian gazed at her and gave her a gentle forehead kiss seems to be a promise that he won't go away again.
There were a lot of questions that remained unanswered but Y/N is too distracted to ruin the whole thing by asking those. She is just happy to have him back and she wants to savor every moment with him.
2013, Nürburgring
"She seems to fit right in the family" Norbert told his son "Any progress?"
Sebastian was in a lovestruck smile as he gazed his attention to the garden where his mother and Y/N were conversing together. It wasn't the first time that his parents met Y/N but this was the first time that he brought her to his childhood home.
"I'm working on things"Sebastian replied.
"She is a wonderful girl. You treasure her and you don't make her cry alright?"Norbert reminded.
"Papa, its like you are handing me out for marriage already"Sebastian snickered.
"Isn't that the main point of dating? To get married eventually"
The word marriage seems to be foreign in the conversation between the couple. They both know and understand that they have to settle the score between their respective jobs to ensure that there is no conflict. Then the team mate thing has to be resolved as well. On top of that, they both have careers and dreams that they want to achieve.
But making Y/N a Vettel is something in the plans.
"You seem to be talking about us"Mrs Vettel called their attention out and Y/N's turned her head.
"Anything you want to share Seb?"Y/N wondered.
Sebastian just went forward to wrap an arm around Y/N. There was pure bliss in his eyes that everyone is getting along in the household. If he would make her a Vettel then she would be a happy addition to the family.
"What are you and Mama talking about?" Sebastian diverts the topic.
"Oh I'm just showing Y/N your childhood photos"Mrs Vettel gleefuly answered.
"Mama no"Sebastian groaned.
The albums from the past is filled with lots of photos of Sebastian that would be horrifying to show to the public. It includes his early track days, snotty seasons, and even some nerdy photos from school.
"You look adorable Seb"Y/N comforts "Look here Seb, this looks so cute. Is this you on your first day of school?"
The photo had a younger Sebastian holding hands with a blonde haired girl. They have their backpacks on and they seem to be giggling at the camera. Frankly, Sebastian have no memory of what they are talking about but they seem to have been caught conversing when the photo was taken
"Oh that's his first day of school with his friend Hanna"Mrs Vettel recognized.
"Hanna as in Hanna Prater?"Y/N inquired.
The mere mention of the name caused Sebastian's stomach to churn as if he swallowed a rock. The day have already been perfect but the name caused all of his worries to come back.
"You know Hanna?"the elder male Vettel asked.
"Yeah, I met her in some Grand Prix"Y/N answered "She was super sweet and she seems like a very supportive friend to Sebastian"
The way that Y/N talks about Hanna makes Sebastian feel more guilty about what transpired weeks ago. He couldn't have the heart to tell Y/N the truth about them. The first one in Brazil was an accident and could be something forgivable but what happened in Spain was something he was not sure of.
"Hey you seem pale? Are you alright?"Y/N voiced out her concern.
"I'm alright"
"You must be starving already, let's get you two some food"Mrs Vettel immediately got up from her seat.
"Mama you don't have to"Sebastian begs.
"Nonsense, you should get a plate or two before you go for the race weekend"Mrs Vettel argues.
It was useless to argue with his mother. Sebastian just raised his hands in surrender as his mother went off to the kitchen to prepare some meals for them to eat. She has also grabbed Mr Vettel and instructs him to set the table.
The couple was left alone and Y/N seems to be concerned with Sebastian.
"You can tell me anything that's bothering you" Y/N repeated
"I know"Sebastian sighs "But I'm not sure that I'm able to tell you this yet"
Her hands touched his face. It was a gentle caress meant to soothe Sebastian.
"I trust you, whenever you feel like talking then"Y/N smiles.
Those comforting words seems to be digging deeper wounds for Sebastian as the bile rises up in his throat. He wanted to tell her the truth of what happened but she is scared that in doing so that he might end up losing her.
He allows himself to be selfish for a little bit more time.

fic: if i bleed (you'll be the last to know) (13/?)
Tumblr media
Part Summary: “I love you, Leigh,” you declare, the words tumbling out almost uncontrollably. Ever since you stepped off that plane and your feet touched back on home ground, you've been aching to say it. Her eyes turn steely, the brief flicker of doubt swallowed up by resolve. “You say that now,” Leigh counters, her laugh dark and hollow. “But I'm not easy. Loving me might just kill you.”
Pairing: Leigh Shaw x Fem!Reader | Word count for this part: 5.900+ | Warnings: Some angst | Author's note: I think there will be just 2-3 more chapters before we close this book. Just fyi!
Masterlist | Part I Part II | Part III | Part IV | Part V | Part VI | Part VII | Part VIII | Part IX | Part X | Part XI | Part XII
-
When you finally stir awake, the room is washed in a soft morning light. Beside you, Leigh is already up, sitting on the edge of the bed in yesterdays clothes. Her hair is pulled back casually, a few strands hanging loose, looking a bit disheveled but still unintentionally perfect—or perhaps that's just your infatuation speaking in the early morning haze. But you can't help yourself.
“Morning,” you mumble, voice gravelly from sleep, as you try to tame your own bedhead. You're still barely clothed under the thin covers in contrast to Leigh’s state of fully dressed. The realization makes you blush, remembering last night’s affairs. Subconsciously, you pull the covers tighter around your body, a wave of shyness washing over you.
“Hey,” Leigh whispers in return, giving you a small smile.
You prop yourself up on your elbows, feeling a pleasant ache in your inner thighs and back. “What time is it?” you ask, glancing around, trying to determine the time based solely on the sunlight filtering through the windows.
“It's still early,” she says, checking her phone. “But I've been up for a bit.”
You notice the creases in her clothes, evidence of a night spent on your floor. She seems a bit distant this morning, thoughtful, like she's already planning her day.
“You could have woken me,” you say, letting a small, teasing smile play across your lips.
Leigh shakes her head. “You were sleeping so soundly, I didn't want to wake you,” she says, her eyes holding yours for a moment longer than necessary. There's a warmth there, but also something you can't quite read.
“But I did make coffee,” she offers, tilting her head toward the kitchen. Her eyes land on the pile of your clothes scattered on the floor, remnants of just a few hours earlier. She clears her throat and her cheeks color a little as she says, “I'll let you get dressed first then.” Without another word, she heads back to the kitchen.
You grab some clothes and quickly dress, and then a thought hits you. Was Leigh watching you sleep? The idea makes you a bit giddy, flipping a fluttery feeling through your stomach. It's strange to think about, but also kind of endearing. Her sticking around this morning feels like a small victory. Being with Leigh felt good, but you weren’t sure what to expect at sunrise.
In the kitchen, you watch Leigh move with an easy familiarity, exploring the cabinets and figuring out where things are stashed. She quickly locates the mugs right above the coffee brewer, grabs two, and sets them down on the counter.
“How do you take yours?” she asks, her hand hovering over the sugar and cream.
You shrug. “Two creams, two sugars?”
Leigh is meticulous, measuring each spoonful of sugar, ensuring there's just the right amount of room for cream. Every small adjustment she makes for your preference makes your heart skip. You’re touched by the simple fact that she cares enough to know and remember exactly how you like it.
You realize, not for the first time, but perhaps the most profoundly, that you’re falling in love with her. You have been for some time now, but this morning it feels like the descent down a rollercoaster—fast, exhilarating, and a little bit terrifying. There's no slowing down or stopping it; you just have to close your eyes and hold on for dear life.
As you both sip your coffee, you find yourself easing into the comfort of small talk, curious about Leigh's return to working at The Beautiful Beast. She mentioned needing to help her mom out, especially after a few recent resignations—a situation you understand all too well from your own experiences with running a business and the never-ending struggles of hiring staff and managing them.
While part of you listens, another part is preoccupied with thoughts of last night. You want to delve into what happened, to ask if she enjoyed herself, and to apologize for not being more assertive. You want to confirm what it means for both of you, but the thought makes your hand tremble slightly around your coffee mug.
Before you can gather your courage, Leigh’s phone vibrates loudly on the table. She checks it and her expression tightens. “I need to go,” she says suddenly, standing up.
You automatically stand up too, but without a clear next move, you find yourself frozen, waiting for something to happen. Both of you are just standing there—Leigh figuring out how to leave, and you, how to say goodbye.
Then, as if deciding for both of you, Leigh steps forward and gives you a quick peck on the lips. “I’ll see you later,” she says.
“Bye,” you reply, a bit dazed as you watch her grab her things and leave.
You touch your lips, feeling the ghost of Leigh’s quick kiss, an electric zip that lingers like the aftertaste of strong coffee. You’ve seen Leigh in nothing but shadows and moonlight, felt the undeniable press of her bare skin against yours, but the shock of her kiss never dulls. It’s a bit like being struck by lightning—no matter how many times it happens, you never get used to the jolt.
-
Sara sits confidently across from you, dressed in a black turtleneck and slacks, attire appropriate for a formal interview. Earlier, she mentioned she's finishing her thesis and is interested in a part-time job that can accommodate her academic commitments, which seems ideal. However, the situation is far from perfect. Ideally, hiring someone you once found attractive isn't the best practice, but she's the only applicant who has responded to your job postings so far.
Feeling her eyes fixed on you, you fiddle with the sleeves of your coat while reviewing her résumé. Between you is a history as transient as a wisp of smoke but clear nonetheless. You’d almost ventured into something with her after a lonely night spent swiping through an app you swore off a dozen times before. And with the recent memory of Leigh leaving your apartment still vivid in your mind, you question whether considering Sara for the job is the right decision.
“So?” Sara ventures after you've been quiet for a while. You feel your cheeks warm with a blush, realizing you've been stalling. Forcing yourself, you tear your eyes away from her rather impressive qualifications.
Letting out a sigh, you set down your glasses, rubbing the bridge of your nose. “Honestly, this just doesn't feel serious,” you confess. “I keep expecting Suzie to pop out with her phone, recording this whole thing as a prank.”
Sara's laughter spills out, rich and melodious. It’s infectious, and after a while you find yourself chuckling too.
“I promise, I'm serious,” she assures you, still smiling. She leans forward, her voice dropping to almost a whisper. “Look, our history was brief. We didn’t really date, we just met that one time—”
“Twice,” you interrupt, unable to resist correcting her.
Her smile broadens. “—outside of the app. We can be friends, forget all that other stuff, okay?”
You consider her words, searching her face for any sign of discomfort or hesitation. Finding none, you ask, “And that won’t be weird for you?”
“Not at all,” she replies confidently, her head shaking slightly. “And… if you're alright with just part-time for now?”
“Yeah, I can manage reception on my own some days,” you say. But there's another nagging thought that won't let you go.
Sara quickly catches on to your dithering. “What is it?”
“It's just... aren't you worried this job is a bit beneath you? You're chasing an MBA. Wouldn’t you rather find something more aligned with your degree?” you ask.
She leans back, her eyes narrowing slightly in thought. “I’ve considered that,” she says slowly, “but right now, the flexibility this job offers is what I need most. And honestly, I believe in what your clinic is doing—it's a good place to be, even if it’s just a stop along the way.”
You smile at that, genuinely touched by her kind words about your establishment and the work you do.
“Alright, then, I just have one more question to, uh, make this official,” you say, shuffling the papers in front of you. “You've got impressive organizational skills and a solid background in customer service. How do you think these will help you in a medical office setting?”
Sara doesn’t hesitate, her answer ready almost before you've finished speaking.
-
“Are we sure it's okay to leave Sara by herself while we grab lunch?” you ask, a slight frown forming as you think about what might need handling while you're gone.
Suzie gives you a reassuring smile as she slings her purse over her shoulder. “She’ll be fine. It’s usually quiet around this time, and I’ve given her a rundown of the essentials. Plus, she knows she can text me if anything comes up.”
You can't shake off a sliver of worry, knowing how overwhelming the first day can be. “Alright,” you say, still unconvinced but trusting Suzie’s judgment. “Let’s make it quick then.”
The two of you make your way to a charming little café tucked around the corner. It's a snug nook, celebrated for its hearty sandwiches and home-cooked soups. As you walk, the idea of bringing Leigh here bubbles up in your thoughts—she'd appreciate their renowned kale soup, you reckon.
As you line up to order, Suzie nudges your shoulder lightly. “So, not weird at all hiring an old flame?” she teases.
You roll your eyes. “It's strictly professional. And technically, we never really dated. We just… hung out.”
“Yeah, you hung her out to dry.”
“I’m still your boss for the next two weeks,” you remind her jokingly.
Suzie smirks and raises her hands in mock surrender. “Okay, okay, boss. I'll behave.”
“But seriously, you can't tease me about Sara anymore because, you know…I'm with Leigh now,” you say, looking down at your feet, hiding your grin.
Suzie turns to you, her eyes widening. “Oh. When did this happen?” she asks, her tone noticeably flat. You were expecting her to be more excited about the news.
Your spirits dip a little at Suzie's lackluster reaction. You straighten up and decide to share the brief version of your reunion with Leigh. As you recount the events to Suzie, you keenly watch her reactions, hoping for a clue into her thoughts. You mention forgiving Leigh and how, after forgiveness was exchanged, Leigh kissed you. Throughout your story, Suzie's expression remains unreadably neutral.
When you finish, she finally speaks, “Honestly, I'm happy for you. Just make sure you're both on the same page.”
“She did stay until morning,” you tell Suzie, feeling a need to convince her—and maybe yourself—that this is significant. After all, someone making you coffee in the morning has to mean something, right?
“Okay, that’s definitely a good sign,” she says with cautious optimism. “But have you guys talked about what this all means? Like, are you actually together now or what?”
The reality of her question gradually settles on you after a few moments. “We haven't really defined anything,” you admit.
Suzie heaves a sigh just as it's her turn to order. She picks a dark chocolate frappuccino and a salmon bagel, loaded with extra cream cheese, then drifts off to a corner to wait while you place your order. As you step up to the counter, you realize you’ve lost your appetite. You settle for an Americano and a mixed bowl of fruit to go. When your food and drinks are ready, you both head to a corner booth by the window.
Suzie, picking up on your nervousness, advises, “Just take things slow, okay?”
You murmur a noncommittal, “Mhm,” your thoughts adding, Too late for that. The two of you eat in silence until the chime of a text notification breaks through—from Leigh.
You can feel Suzie’s curious gaze at you while you read Leigh’s text:
[12:33 PM] Leigh: Thanks for last night
You hover over the keypad, unsure how to respond.
You’re welcome?
The pleasure was all mine?
You shake your head, cringing at your own thoughts. Suzie catches your expression and squints at you. “Everything alright?” she asks.
“It’s Leigh,” you mumble, glancing briefly from your phone to meet Suzie’s questioning look.
“What did she say?”
Instead of explaining, you tilt your phone towards Suzie, letting her read the message herself. A few seconds later, a knowing smirk forms on her face.
“She’s playing it safe,” Suzie concludes.
Your phone pings again, making you jump. Almost fumbling it, you quickly check the new message and read it aloud:
[12:34 PM] Leigh: Hey, quick question. What dog shampoo would you recommend? Logan's perfumed smell doesn't really last long.
“She's playing it way too safe,” Suzie remarks, clicking her tongue in disapproval.
Ignoring Suzie, you quickly type back, suggesting a favorite of yours, and include a link to an online store.
[12:35 PM] You: Try this one <link>. It's hypoallergenic and it should keep Logan smelling fresh longer than the others I've tried.
After sending the message, you look up to find Suzie still wearing a small smile.
“What a bunch of modern idiots,” she murmurs, loud enough for you to hear, before taking a hearty sip from her drink.
You and Leigh continue texting about Logan and his needs. She mentions she'll drop by tomorrow to pick up his supplies. You keep to yourself that you're already planning to gather everything and surprise her by dropping it off at her place—an excuse to see her again.
-
You leave the clinic early, gripping a bouquet of flowers in one hand and Logan’s bag of supplies in the other. Since that lunch with Suzie, you've been introspective and quiet, wrestling with the idea that she might be right about defining your relationship with Leigh. You realize you're already in too deep, weary of assumptions and the uncertainty of not knowing where you stand with her.
Expecting to find Leigh at her mom's fitness studio in the late afternoon, you make your way there.
But she isn't there.
“Oh, hi, Y/N,” Jules greets you from behind the reception desk. She's busy wiping down the counter and sorting through stacks of folders—membership forms that appear to have accumulated over the past few years.
“Is Leigh around?” you ask, scanning the mostly deserted area. Your eyes sweep past the maintenance staff quietly going about their cleaning, but there’s no sign of Leigh.
You miss the brief flicker of discomfort that crosses Jules's face at the mention of her sister. “Leigh's probably at home,” Jules says evenly, going back to her task. “She takes every Tuesday off.”
While you’re still distracted (and a little disappointed), Jules notices the bouquet you’re holding.
“Are those for her?” she asks.
You give the bouquet of red Chrysanthemums a slight wave, then a bit sheepishly, you nod and confirm, “Yeah.”
“That's sweet, Y/N,” Jules comments, her lips curving slightly.
She seems to expect you to leave since Leigh isn't around, but instead, you take a seat on one of the stools at the reception.
“How are you, by the way?” you ask, flashing a warm smile at her. You lean your arms on the counter and start drumming your fingers, genuinely interested in her response.
“You sure you wanna hang around? Leigh hates waiting for anyone,” she says. Though her words are light, there’s a shadow behind them that yanks your attention.
“Is everything okay? I mean, with you and Leigh?” you ask cautiously. Jules doesn’t speak for a moment too long, and you nearly backtrack, thinking maybe a lighter topic might salvage the awkward silence.
But just as you’re about to pivot, she blurts out, “I moved out recently.”
You gawk at her, surprised by the sudden confession. Jules notices your open-mouthed shock and it almost coaxes a laugh from her. She's somewhat entertained by your astonishment but also touched that you cared enough to ask. Inside, she’s glad she secretly cheered for you over Danny.
“I know, right? Bet you didn't see that coming,” she says with a wry smile.
“Moving out is definitely a big step,” you reply, “but uh, you kind of didn’t really answer my question there.”
Jules chuckles and rounds the counter to sit beside you. “No,” she says flatly, her expression sobering as she sits beside you. “And honestly, I'd rather not hash out my issues with Leigh unless it's with my therapist. Talking about it just feels like letting her win somehow.”
She lets out a deep breath, her gaze drifting away momentarily. “And no, I didn't plan on moving out. I just got tired of being treated like crap by my own family.”
Jules starts picking at the edge of the counter before she looks up. She had mentioned not wanting to discuss it, but somehow, she finds it easy to open up to you.
“I mean, obviously, we're not related by blood,” she continues, “and yeah, it's the 21st century—being adopted shouldn't be a big deal, right? But even though it's common, it doesn't make me feel any more part of the family, any less like an outsider. I feel like an eternal letdown, like I'm always just shy of what they hoped I'd be.”
“What exactly are they hoping for?” you ask softly.
Jules shrugs, her eyes darting away as she wraps her arms around herself protectively. “I don't really know. It's more of an outline than a shape.
You think about her words for a moment before adding your two cents. “Could it be that maybe some of this pressure is self-imposed? Maybe you're the one filling in the blanks with what you think they expect of you? It's okay just to be yourself, you know. You don't have to be everything to everyone, and that’s perfectly fine,” you say.
Jules nods slowly, her gaze fixed on some distant point. Then, quietly, almost a whisper, she adds, “It's tough, especially with my…you know…past drinking problem. Even though I've been clean for months, it feels like I'm always on trial, always having to prove I’m better now. And when I slip up, even just a little…” her voice falters, “I just... I imagine what they must think of me, if they—”
“If they love you any less for it?” you interject gently.
Her eyes snap back to yours, slightly wet and reddened. Instinctively, you reach out for her hand. Jules grasps it in return, and you give her hand a comforting squeeze.
“I don't really know Leigh in terms of family stuff,” you say, shifting uncomfortably on your stool as you choose your words carefully. “And maybe you've got it right, Jules. But then again, maybe not. See, when we really care about someone, we tend to put them on a pedestal, root for them so hard that sometimes, without even realizing it, we might push them a bit too much.”
You let the thought sit for a while, then continue, your own quandaries weaving into your speech. “Maybe it's best if you talk to Leigh about this... I mean, personally, I need to talk to Leigh about something too. I want to stop assuming things and thinking my perspective is the whole reality. We all do it, don’t we? Set traps for ourselves with our own expectations and assumptions.”
Jules sniffles, manages a faint smile, and discreetly wipes away a tear with her pinkie. Then, unexpectedly, she leans forward and hugs you, her head resting snugly against your cheek. You return the embrace, gently rubbing her back in random circles.
When she steps back, there's a new light of recognition in her eyes.
“You remind me of Matt.”
You're not sure if that's a flattering comparison or not. You did connect with Matt, after all, not because you were opposites that attracted, but because you saw parts of yourself reflected in him—similar interests, similar ways of thinking.
You can’t help but ask, “How so?”
“Matt always played mediator between Leigh and me. Oddly enough, we both really listened to him, took his opinions to heart. He had this wisdom, you know?” She stops for a second, her expression clouding over. “Which really threw me when I found out about some of the... stupid choices he made.” She gestures towards you apologetically, adding, “No offense.”
“None taken,” you assure her quickly with a lopsided smile.
“Yeah, Matt was that person in the family who really saw everyone, who tried to knit us all together. I miss him,” Jules says wistfully. She looks past your shoulder, into the distance, as if she's seeing his ghost. You don’t look behind you. You can see his ghost in her eyes clearly.
Jules continues, “And whatever went down with Leigh, I don’t think it was all his fault. Leigh... she can be challenging to love sometimes. Oh god, that sounds awful, doesn’t it? I’m sorry.”
You shake your head, understanding what she means more than she might think. “It's okay, Jules. It's hard, loving people isn't always straightforward or easy. They say love brings out the best in us, but often, it brings out the worst.”
“It’s like I can hear Matt talking, but in a female voice,” Jules jokes, returning to her post. “Anyway, are you and my sister finally going out?”
“That’s what I’m hoping to find out soon,” you say, gesturing to the bouquet you're holding. You feel a bit forward buying flowers for a girl, especially since you don’t even know what Leigh's favorite flowers are—or if she likes them at all.
Jules gives you a mischievous grin and says, “Well, good luck with that. For what it's worth, I don't think Leigh dumped Danny for nothing. She seems to really like you.”
“Thanks, that means a lot,” you say, feeling a bit more buoyed as you rise from your seat.
With a final nod to Jules, you head out, the bouquet of flowers in hand feeling less silly and more like a talisman as you drive straight to Leigh's house.
-
You pull into the driveway of the Shaw residence, your hands gripping the steering wheel a tad too tightly. The bouquet of flowers sits next to you, a daunting shade of red against the gray upholstery, and Logan’s supplies are carefully arranged in the backseat. You mentally rehearse your opening line to Leigh, hoping the surprise might soften the ground for the conversation that needs to follow.
You ring the doorbell and wait, shifting from foot to foot, your hand gripping the stem of the flowers a little too tightly while your other arm cradles the box containing Logan’s things. But when the door swings open, it's not Leigh who greets you.
“D-Danny,” you stammer, the subtle smile on your lips completely falling away.
What is he doing here?
Danny looks equally unenthused to see you. “Hey,” he replies, his eyes briefly dropping to the flowers before meeting yours again. “Looking for Leigh?”
Before you can respond, Leigh appears behind him. Her face emerges as she peers at you over his shoulder, his towering height partially obstructing your view of her. She looks utterly surprised to see you at her doorstep, giving you the impression that she wasn't expecting you and maybe you shouldn't be here at all.
“I… I thought of bringing Logan’s supplies now since I’m free, but… yeah, I should probably go—”
“Danny was just leaving,” Leigh announces abruptly.
You find yourself frozen, rooted to the spot as you turn to face her. Danny looks poised to object, but Leigh fixes him with a look. It's enough. His defiance melts into resignation, his shoulders dropping slightly as he exhales a heavy sigh.
“Fine,” he grumbles, “I'll call you later, Leigh.” He stalks off without waiting for a reply.
You’re still looking at the ground, the front door cracked open, a draft passing in between you and Leigh as you stand on her doorstep.
What was Danny doing here? You can't seem to shake it off.
Leigh reaches out and gently touches your elbow, nudging you inside. “Come in,” she murmurs, leading you past the threshold.
Inside, Leigh takes the box of supplies from your hands. She starts sorting through it, tossing a casual “Thanks” over her shoulder as she examines the contents. Her focus is entirely on Logan’s needs until she looks up and spots the bouquet you’re still hanging onto.
Your cheeks flush as her gaze shifts to the flowers. You had fantasized about a dazzling smile breaking across her features at the sight. Instead, Leigh’s expression tightens with skepticism, her eyes narrowing slightly as she regards the bouquet.
“Flowers?” Leigh inquires uncertainly.
It's not the response you'd imagined, and you suddenly find yourself scrambling for an explanation, the bouquet feeling unexpectedly cumbersome in your grasp.
“I, uh, passed by a flower shop,” you start, fiddling with a petal as you concoct a small white lie. “I bought some for myself and figured, since I was coming over with Logan's supplies, maybe you'd like some too.”
You've both seen each other naked just hours ago, yet somehow that doesn't seem to matter now. This doesn't feel any easier than before you slept together.
“They are pretty,” she says, accepting the flowers. She looks around for a moment. “I'll find a vase for these.”
Relieved she's accepted them, you seize the opportunity to change the topic. You're on the verge of asking why Danny was just here, but to your own surprise, a completely different question slips out.
“Where's Logan today?”
“He's with mom,” Leigh says, returning to the living room holding a plain-looking vase. “She’s really bonded with him. Actually, she's out showing him off to some old friends today.”
That coaxes out a small smile from you, imagining Logan charming everyone he meets.
Now the roles reverse and Leigh takes her turn with the questions. “How about you? Weren't we supposed to meet for Logan’s stuff tomorrow?” A beat passes, and she adds, “I wasn’t expecting you.” Her tone isn’t harsh, but it's clear that Leigh isn't fond of surprises. You mentally file that away for future reference.
“I wanted to see you,” you say, the words tumbling out more bluntly than planned. “You left so quickly this morning after... after last night.”
Then, almost without thinking, you find yourself nodding toward the door Danny had exited through, the question spilling out before you can reel it back. “Why was Danny here?” It sounds more accusatory than you intend, and you hurry to cushion it, not wanting to come off as possessive. “I mean, I thought you two were—”
“Broken up?” Leigh fills in the blank sharply. She sets the vase down slowly, then turns to face you, her expression becoming more earnest by the second.
“Yes, we are,” she confirms, crossing her arms lightly over her chest. “Danny came by to pick up some of his things he had left here. It's not... we’re not back together. But if you’re asking why he’s still in my life, then I have news for you, Y/N: we’re friends. And he’s still Matt’s brother.”
You bite your lip, feeling a surge of defensiveness rise within you. “I'm just wondering, that's all,” you manage to say, trying not to sound too confrontational or possessive. You’re suddenly aware of how precarious your position is—you’re not really entitled to feel jealous or make demands. After all, Leigh hasn't given you any sort of claim over her; you're not officially anything. You came here hoping maybe that would change, but now you worry you might be messing it all up.
“Of course you can be friends with whoever you want,” you add hastily.
“Exactly,” she says, but then she pauses, scrutinizing you with a curious tilt of her head. “But what about you?” she presses, taking slow, deliberate steps towards you, like a predator stalking its prey.
You give her a quizzical look.
“The flowers, showing up without a heads-up... What are you hoping to get out of this?”
As Leigh’s gaze bores into you, probing and skeptical, something inside you snaps. The hurt ricochets through you, searing and unexpected. She was so delicate with you, making you feel all sorts of things while doing wonderful, unspeakable things to your body, and now she’s making you question your own reality.
“I've been falling in love with you, Leigh,” you say, your voice rising without your permission, the words bouncing off the walls with a force that startles even you. “Are you just enormously daft or do you not care at all?”
Silence crashes down like a heavy curtain following your admission.
But Leigh doesn’t flinch from your outburst, nor does she display any signs of distress. She remains eerily still, almost statue-like. Yet, when you look into her eyes, you see it—the unsteadiness there, the only part of her that seems vulnerable to your scrutiny.
Then, she speaks. Just one word, but it's enough to completely deflate you, a response more chilling than if she had simply said she didn't care.
“No.”
“What—” you start, but she cuts you off.
“You don’t love me.”
The certainty with which she says it feels like a door slamming shut, final and resolute, leaving no room for doubts or arguments. Your mouth hangs open, muted by her unequivocal assertion that you don't love her.
You’re gearing up to tell her how wrong she is, to insist that what you feel is real, but she cuts you off with a question that feels like a bucket of ice water.
“When you learned that ‘Nick’ was just Danny all along, that Matt’s brother helped him betray me, what was your first thought?” Leigh's voice is clinical, almost detached.
You feel like you’re missing something, grasping at the air for an answer that will satisfy her. Her gaze traps you, demanding truth, and you realize you can’t escape until you give it to her. What does she want to hear? What is she trying to understand from this?
“My first thought?” you repeat, trying to remember how it made you feel. “I felt sorry for you, Leigh. I couldn’t believe someone so close to you would do that. I felt angry for you, and yeah, I felt really sorry that you had to go through it.”
Leigh's eyes flicker, a subtle shift like a wince. “You pitied me,” she says, her voice cold. “And you also wanted to fuck me. That can be a real killer combo you could mistake for love.”
You stumble back a step, your legs suddenly weak as her words sink in. It's as if she's taken your heart and laid it bare under a harsh light, reducing your feelings to something small and pitiful, far from the love you thought you felt.
Finding the nearest surface to lean on, you press your back against the front door. The temptation to leave, to walk away from this painful confrontation, is strong. But the beautiful, infuriating creature in front of you couldn't be more wrong about you, about love, about how you feel for her. And you’re hell-bent on changing her mind, even if it’s the last thing you do.
“Then why be with me last night?” you challenge, your voice strained. “If you really think that, why even bother?”
Leigh's smile takes on a mocking twist, her eyes shimmering with unshed tears. “Just satisfying your curiosity,” she says. “I wanted to lift the veil for you, help you realize it's nothing more than just guilt and sympathy.”
You shake your head. “I don't believe that. Last night wasn't just curiosity or some misguided sense of duty. It was real, Leigh. And I think you know that too.”
Her eyes remain hard, but just beneath, there's a shimmer—perhaps doubt, or something like it.
“You think you know what love is?” she whispers, her voice so faint it's almost lost. “You think it's just about feeling sorry for someone and wanting them?”
“No,” you say firmly. “I think it's about seeing someone for who they are, flaws and all, and wanting to be there for them anyway. I think it's about standing by someone even when it's hard, even when they push you away. And Leigh, I see you. I see all of you, and I still want to be here.
“I love you, Leigh,” you declare, the words tumbling out almost uncontrollably.
“Leigh—”
“Why do you think Matt was found at the bottom of a forty-foot drop?” she nearly screams, her voice fraying at the edges of hysteria. She starts pacing, her movements restless and agitated. “Why do you think he came to you? Why do you think he kept running from me?”
At the mention of her dead husband, everything suddenly makes sense. The walls she’s built, her reluctant heart—it’s not about being mysterious or difficult. It’s about fear, a deep, visceral terror of being the storm that wrecks another life. Leigh isn't just pushing you away out of whimsy or cruelty; she's doing it because she believes it's the only way to prevent history from repeating itself.
“I’m not Matt.”
She stops pacing, her eyes locking onto yours, filled with anger, fear, and something that looks a lot like pain. “No, you’re not Matt. But you don’t get it. He couldn’t handle it. He couldn’t handle me. I drove him away, and I’ll drive you away too.”
“You didn’t drive Matt away. He was running from his own demons, not you. And I’m not afraid of you. I’m here because I want to be. Because I—”
Her face crumples, the mask she’s been wearing cracking. “You don’t know what you’re saying,” she whispers. “You don’t know what it’s like.”
“I know it’s not easy,” you say, closing the distance between you. You feel her radiating every feeling she’s struggling to contain, the ones she’s attempting to shield from you. “But I’m not going anywhere. I’m here for all of it.”
Her eyes well up, tears slipping down her cheeks. But she doesn’t move away. “Why?” she asks, her voice so small and child-like. “Why would you want to stay?”
“Because I love you,” you say simply, “and I’m not afraid of the cost.”
Leigh gives you a look that could freeze fire—like you’ve just spoken the worst of blasphemies.
“Stop looking at me like that,” you murmur, cupping her neck gently.
“Like what?” she asks, her voice trembling.
“Like it’s the worst thing you’ve ever heard.”
She attempts to smooth over her expression, trying to regain some semblance of control, but there’s a fleeting moment where she resembles a chastised child. You can't help but smile gently, touched by her unguarded reaction.
“Leigh,” you whisper, taking her hands in yours. “One date. Go out with me. Let me prove it to you. Let me show you why it can be a good thing.”
She lets out a shaky breath, and for the first time, there’s a glimmer of hope in her eyes. She nods, almost imperceptibly, but it’s enough. It’s a start.
“Okay,” she whispers in surrender. “One date.”

Hey i just read your fanfic "and still i answer your call when she doesn't answer at all". and i loved it, i wonder if you could maybe make a part 2 if you have time, And if you want too. And ofcourse, you dont have to do it or rush it
hi! thank you sm <3 yes ofc i can, haven't written in a hot minute so;
and still i answer your call when she doesn't answer at all, part 2
pairing: ellie x fem!reader
warnings: toxic relationship, cheating, nsfw, curse words, soft?? ellie but highkey salty, not proofread yet again, lesbian sex <3, and also first time writing smut plsplspls have mercy on me, xoxo
word count: 3,9k
summary: you visit ellie again to thank her for comforting and taking care of you, but things take a different course when your 'girlfriend' texts you. or; ellie eats you out.
as warm tones start to set into the blue sky, february doesn't seem so cold anymore.
all your worries were washed away, all thanks to ellie. after you stormed to her place at the most vile hour, ellie took good care of you, the two of you watched your favourite movies until you fell asleep and she prepared you some breakfast before you had to leave for work. guilt resides in the pits of your gut, your gratefulness has never left the four walls of your mind, it is time you finally thank ellie for everything she has done for you these past few days.
you spent the whole day in bed, sulking away while thoughts of your girlfriend cross your mind. you reach for your phone, no message from her.
as you take steady steps to your closet you realise that there's no turning back now. you've made up your mind, it is over. but you needed good advice from a very good friend, surely ellie would have all the answers to your questions. flicking through all the clothes in your closet, memories of your girlfriend start to occupy your mind. the dress you wore on your first date, the hoodie she bought you on a rainy november day, the graphic tee you wore the first time she made you cry, and all the other clothes that witnessed you being miserable because of her. it had to end, now.
all dressed up now, you wash your face, washing the smudged mascara from yesterday's crying away. lately your emotions have been all over the place but you told yourself it is better to feel them rather than bottling everything up.
ready to leave, you text ellie a simple 'i'm gonna stop by your place' shortly regretting that you didn't text her earlier. but to your luck she replies almost immediately.
'sure, have you eaten?' the words circle your mind. you don't know whether you're impressed by the fact that she answered so quickly or that she potentially knew you haven't eaten a single thing yet.
'no' you reply, slipping your phone into your pocket while fishing out your keys that you mindlessly put in your pockets before locking the door.
you step outside and cold wind is blowing your way. the sky has already lost itself in complete darkness, but the clouds haven't shied away, surrounding the moons light.
ellie is just as nervous as the last time you were here, although now she had something to keep herself busy with: cooking.
keeping it simple, because she's too scared to mess up, but not too boring, ellie doesn't want you to think that she can't cook.
a dilemma she might never escape, because she knows you don't overthink any of your actions towards her. but should she really be thinking about this right now? ellie tries her best to feel somewhat content that you're coming over. however, knowing that she is one-sidedly overthinking her actions, caring for your needs and, well, liking you, she can't help but feel like burning this entire kitchen down instead of cooking a nice meal for the two of you.
"shit," ellie groans as she feels the blade digging into her fingertip. this for sure wasn't part of the cute scenarios she just made up nor was it part of her plan to burn this kitchen down. ellie rushes to find a plaster, a bandage, anything to put on her finger.
the door rings, ellie rushes to the door, heavy footsteps echo and bounce off the stairwell walls. the sound of you felt like a mixture of butterflies and sour lemons in her guts.
and there you stand, right in front of her. something in the fresh evening air must've altered your brain chemistry, because why do you feel her eyes linger? and why do you want them to? your emotional imbalance is surely to blame, you most definitely lack attentiveness and consideration. ellie lightly clearing her throat interrupts your almost driving you to insanity monologue, your eyes now drawn to her body.
has your friend's arms always looked this big? she's just wearing a plain white t-shirt, but you can't seem to stop yourself from tracing the strokes of her tattoo with your eyes. soft hello's were exchanged before ellie offered to take off your jacket. the outfit you picked out today and deemed too light for your own comfort suddenly became ridiculously warm.
"how have you been?" ellie asks, making her way to the kitchen as you awkwardly stand in the hallway trying to cool down.
"better? uh, do you mind if i change?" your voice breaks a little, you lightly chuckle to cover your discomfort.
ellie shakes her head, her whole attention directed towards the plates she's trying to decorate nicely with the food she has just made. truth is, she's trying her hardest not to think about you changing, about your bare, soft skin, about—
"oh my god," it emerges from ellie's bedroom, ripping ellie out of her mildly inappropriate thoughts. she was so sure that she cleaned her room well, even checked multiple times and every corner, what on earth did you find? she fiddles with her hands as she walks towards her bedroom, door slightly open. the auburn haired woman doesn't believe in god, but on this very day, she is making all kinds of prayers, hoping for the best. ellie opens the door and seeing you sit on her bed with your phone in your hand is surprisingly disappointing.
you watch her stand at the doorframe, her arms crossed, flexing her buff arms. you can't ignore her furrowed eyebrows, but when ellie notices the concern written all over your face she mouths a low 'what happened?'
you turn around your phone for ellie to read the text message your girlfriend just sent you.
'hey baby, can we talk? i'm really sorry' ellie reads in her head. she definitely prayed for all the wrong reasons, because this is exponentially worse than anything she feared just a minute ago.
"why are you showing me this?" she asks, her voice low. she's still standing in front of you, looking down on you. her gaze on you makes you feel things you haven't felt in a long time. but your girlfriend just texted you and is apologising for her actions, you need to focus. but something about the way her eyes are locking you in is making it a little harder to breathe.
you take a deep breath, you need oxygen to clear your head.
"well, i came here because i needed advice—" you carefully watch ellie approaching you slowly.
"—i wanted to end things with her but—" you thought you were attentive enough but you're taken aback by ellie's big hands resting on your thighs, her face dangerously close to yours. you steal a small glimpse at her tired eyes piercing you through before continuing. her being so close causes your breath to shorten, you're hoping your all that she can't see your chest lifting.
"—she apologised now, so we're good," you say. ellie's eyes widen in disbelief, slightly tilting her head.
"are you serious?" she scoffs, her eyes shut close before searching for answers in yours. you nod and watch ellie drop her head in disappointment, followed by several scoffs and sighs.
"no you're not," she says under her breath, disappointment slowly spiralling into exasperation. ellie can't tolerate this any longer. whether it is your dumb decisions or your inability to see your worth, she won't take this anymore. and it might be selfish to get angry at you for not seeing her more than just a friend, but she did decide on a whim while cooking that this is the day where she finally tells you. however the manner things are progressing for now seem to be reaching a dead end.
"i have to reply though," you mumble, but ellie's furrowed eyebrows insinuate you to feel insecure about your decision.
"you don't," ellie says, as an auburn hair strand looses itself from her split ponytail. her arm reaches for your phone, but you hold it up by reflex, you didn't expect her to grab for your phone. however, you forget that you're the one sitting and she'd just have to stand up straight to get your phone, so you rapidly throw your back onto the mattress, arms far away, she surely won't be able to get your phone now.
"fuck, you can't be—" ellie hesitates, and you smile triumphantly, until you feel something weighting you down. your eyes widen in realisation, did ellie just climb on top of you? your body's brush now and then against each other while she's trying to reach for your phone. you're about to turn to the side when you feel ellie's strong hands hold your wrist down, making it impossible for you to move. for a minute, you forget why you wanted to turn away as you loose yourself in her sage green eyes. and that's when realisation hits you, you're under her, at the mercy of her big, strong arms. ellie doesn't keep eye contact for long, her eyes are fixated on stealing your phone, your eyes are focused on her jaw line. you're being held down, her knees restricting your upper body from the sides, her chest alarmingly close to your face. your grip around your phone softens, your too distracted by her presence pressing and holding you down.
you hear ellie whisper a 'finally' before you're eye to eye again. ellie was too busy taking your phone away and only notices now how close the two of you are. your chests lightly brush against each other, ellie still pinning you down to the bed. her grip tightens around your wrist as she thinks about the way you're still so caught up with your girlfriend, but the fact that she has your full attention for once overrides all the anger she bottled up. you gulp down and break away from her gaze, looking to the side, where she's holding you down.
"what happened to your finger?" you finally break the silence, earning a low chuckle from ellie. she's breathing right onto your neck, sending shivers down your spine.
you watch ellie's lip move, form words, pressing against each other softly.
"you sure you wanna text your girlfriend?" the last words pull you out of the daze her lips put you in, she surely must've said something important. you need to focus. you have to ignore that your body is screaming to be held, to be touched.
the thought of ellie touching you has never crossed your mind until... now. this very thought makes you want to adjust your lower body, arching your back slightly.
ellie can't help but notice all the movement happening below her. she's never been this close to you. and knowing she has your undivided attention all to herself, she can't hold back any longer.
her chest bumps against yours as she slightly moves up, her hand reaching for your chin, holding it in between her thumb and bandaged index finger. you're forced to hold eye contact with her, her breath tickling your face. your chest doesn't even rise anymore, only falling lower and lower until the movement travels to your lower back.
it's hard to breathe and it's hard to think, you feel your eyes wander from her green eyes to her lips.
"do i have something on my lips?" ellie asks, while looking down on you.
"no?" you're confused, finally pulled out of trance. she tilts your head to the side, at which you sharply inhale.
"you're staring," ellie whispers into your neck, the sensation insinuates you to hold your breath. you see a smile creep up her face from the corner of your eye, your heartbeat must've dropped to your abdomen at this very sight. all your morals and values must have left you on this night, because you want nothing more than ellie. she always directs you to make the right decision, so you want to believe that she will stop you from pursuing your inappropriate thoughts. with your free hand you reach for the hem of ellie's t-shirt, holding onto it desperately.
"ellie," you say out of breath. something about the way you called for her name made her lose it all, the breathlessness, your voice, the feeling of your body under hers.
her narrowed eyes fill with desperation, hunger, and lust. the sight of you underneath her tingles on her fingertips, ready to roam your body.
ellie takes a deep breath, lifting your face by your chin. she observe your lips carefully as she traces the outlines with her thumb.
"can i?" ellie finally asks, her eyes nervously looking for a place to rest on. you look up to her through your lashes, your grip tightening on her t-shirt. she makes you feel so needed, so incredibly wanted. your mind tells you to put an end to this but the feeling growing in between your thighs can't be ignored any longer. you shut your eyes close, then take one more look at ellie.
her arms could hold you up without struggling, her hands look so sturdy, she could touch you just the way you need her to.
sharply inhaling, you nod, and a smile creeps up her face. and you still feel said smile as she presses her lips against yours.
you didn't know that such a gentle kiss left you eager for more, and you find your hands entangled in her hair, frantically holding onto ellie.
the way your hands speak for what's going on on your mind makes ellie's blood rush through her veins, the soft fabric of your top rubbing up against her arm drives her insane as your skin is exposed every now and then.
ellie's hands glide over your body as her lips devour you impatiently. the sensation of her fingertips linger and you can't keep up any longer. she wants more of you, sloppy kisses emphasise that her attention has shifted from your lips to your body.
you can't help but notice her t-shirt riding up every so often, abdomen exposed.
"fuck," ellie groans, your bottom lip tugged in between her teeth. her hands finally have found a place to rest, a little under your chest, cupping your breasts. her gentle eyes meet yours, pressing her lips to a thin line before speaking.
"can i take your shirt off?" ellie's voice is slightly raspy and it's just enough to worsen the pressure in between your thighs. you squeeze them tightly, earning raised eyebrows from ellie.
"only if you take yours off too," you shoot back, because you can't be doing the wrong thing one-sidedly. however, didn't you want to end things with your girlfriend? she was practically an ex by now, you would've told her soon enough.
ellie sits up, her inner thighs pressing against your waist.
"oh? then, take your bra off too," ellie says, as she trails kisses on your neck, hot, slow and wet. you slightly arch your neck while biting down a moan. this is getting too heated for your own comfort and you can see yourself making noises only a few instances away, this needs to stop.
but ellie keeps on sucking, biting and licking your neck, making it impossible to keep quiet. and to make matters worse, she pushes her thigh all the way up against your aching spot, resulting you to softly moan.
"shit, didn't know texting your girlfriend back included moaning for me," ellie spits, the bitter taste of her fury still hasn't left her tongue. you're taken aback by her words but the sensation on your neck is keeping you in a trance you can't break away from. ellie's had enough of waiting, so she switches position with you, making you sit on top of her lap. she lifts your t-shirt, every inch of exposed skin is followed by hungry kisses until the shirt is off of you. you don't necessarily like sitting on top, too many vulnerable spots to be explored. ellie's rough hands glide down the sides of your upper body until they comfortably rest above your hips. her fingers graze over your body making breathing impossible, you feel it all the way down your lower abdomen.
and as if her big sturdy hands roaming over your body wasn't enough, she reaches for your back, undoing your bra with one hand.
you watch her smirk cockily as the straps of your bra fall to the sides, exposing your shoulders, and more importantly your chest. ellie bites down her lip as she cups your breasts, giving them a good, firm squeeze before locking eyes with you.
"you're tits look so fucking perfect," she groans, letting the palm of her hand brush against your hard nipples while ellie feels your hips tilt to the back at the touch of your skin, back arched for a moment only. she then pinches them and teases you even more, so you try to stop her and you reach out for her hand. however, you mistakenly grab her tattooed forearm, grasping it firmly to push her away from you. ellie chuckles at your unfortunate attempt to break away from her.
"you want them inside of you?" she teases, while breathing hot air onto your nipples. your eyes widen in surprise, when have you implied that? you suddenly feel heat creep up your neck, panic written all over your face. in response, ellie points to the forearm you've been digging your nails into.
"oh," you say, rapidly drawing your hands in.
"no, it's fine," she says while putting your arms around her, lifting you slightly up to lay you on her bed. her fingers are hooked on your waistband while taking your pants off. you've never seen anyone look this hot taking pants off, loose hair strands covering her face, you can't tell her facial expression.
all you see is her muscular shoulders and arms flexing while she undresses you.
you realise that wearing grey underwear will be the death of you as you hear ellie laugh lowly. you sense her blowing hot air against your clit, oh god is she a tease, you think to yourself.
"so fucking wet and i haven't even touched you? would love to hear your girlfriend's opinion on this," ellie scoffs, while observing the hot mess you are.
"ellie, for fucks sake i'm—"
"you're what?" eyebrows raised, hands resting on your thighs. you take a deep breath. talking about this while you're about to do it is not just incredibly anticlimactic but also immensely nerve wrecking. her eyes are like a ticking bomb, the longer you keep her waiting the more the disappointment grows, her gentle eyes turning tired.
"i'm ending things with her," you finally say.
"you surely will after today," ellie responds, her fingertip firmly pressing on your clit, only fabric separating her from your skin.
you gasp and your stomach rises almost immediately at the pressure you feel, causing you to squeeze your thighs tightly together. however, ellie slips her rough hand in between them, mouthing an 'open' towards your direction which you deemed useless since ellie opened your legs forcibly on her own. she holds one of your thighs down while pulling your underwear to the side, exposing your throbbing, wet clit. she holds two fingers out, gliding them over you to moisturise them before sliding them inside of you. the sensation of her fingers inside of you causes you to arch your back, throw back your head and dig your nails into her scalp.
"easy, love," she whispers, her fingers curved inside of you. ellie starts off slow, with every thrust you exhale shortly, until they turn into soft moans. her unexpectedly breathing against your clit makes you go insane, you feel the sensation give you goosebumps all over you body.
your body leaves ellie mesmerised, the way you move at her touch worsens her need to keep you all to herself, to devour you. she never imagined you to be this gorgeous, this attractive. she wants more of you and desperately wants the taste of you on her tongue. and not a second later, ellie made up her mind, she adjusts herself and pulls your panties further to the side, having full view of you.
"gorgeous," she mutters before crashing onto your clit, letting her tongue slowly slide to the top before making her way back down again. you pull at her hair in reaction, your other hand gripping her bed sheets. ellie moves the tip of her tongue up and down before tugging your clit in between her lips softly, sucking it in.
your moans become shaky and her sucking becomes more intense. you feel your whole body tense up as she presses her parted lips lightly around you, her tongue slowly flicking your clit inside of her mouth. she then lets go of you, you hold your breath.
you're numbed by the sensation and can't tell what's going on, you either feel her fingers pump inside of you or her tongue absolutely devouring you. you can't keep up any longer and ellie doesn't even leave space for a moment to breathe or think, you only feel, and that deeply.
all you hear are the wet noises you make against ellie's tongue and her grunts that unexpectedly turn you on. nails digging into her hair, back arched to the ceiling and your mind so far gone that all your responses to ellie's teasing questions are mindless moans, you feel her push even harder inside of you, causing you to jolt. ellie grins onto your clit as she notices your throbbing take on a slow, rhythmic pace, your insides clasping around her fingers in said rhythm. your hips move in circles, you desperately want to come, you've never felt this good.
and ellie keeps her thrusts consistent, just as the movement of her tongue, only increasing the speed of it. the taste of you sends her to another dimension, she already knows that this will leave her hungry for more. and so your back shoots up, forcing your hip all the way down and clutching around ellie's fingers, a sharp, but loud moan escaping your mouth. content with her work, ellie plants a kiss on your clit, your body shuddering in response. she slowly removes her fingers, your body shivers once more.
you're still in a haze, but ellie hovering over you pulls you out of it, her glistening lips are mesmerising. you see her lose strands sticking to her forehead, a few pearls of sweat on her well built arms. ellie observes your eyes, the way you look so gorgeous in the dimmed light worries her that she might do more.
"good job," she whispers into your neck, goosebumps spreading across your skin. you mutter a 'thank you' which makes you realise you're thanking her for all the wrong reasons. she lays down beside you and holds her right arm out, suggesting you to rest your head on it. you scoot closer, watching her chest rise and fall as she breathes.
"thank you for... the past few days," you say quietly into her chest. ellie scoffs shortly, raises her right arm to the back of your head and pats you. only now you notice that she has taken her shirt off, you don't recall that happening but you surely don't mind the view. you then feel ellie reach out for something, your phone in her hand.
"now text your girlfriend back and make sure to let her know that i'm here."

Chapter 2: Flow
The morning sun rays went through the curtains of your room, gently waking you from her sleep. You rubbed eyes and stretched, feeling a mix of excitement and nervousness. Today was Friday, and it was the day you planned to return Luffy’s hat.
You got out of bed and started with your usual morning routine. You brushed your teeth, washed your face, applied your usual makeup, and dressed in your school uniform. As you fixed up your hair for today, you glanced at Luffy’s yellow hat resting on your desk. You had spent a good part of the previous evening mending it, making sure it looked as good as new.
With a deep breath, you picked up the hat and placed it carefully in your bag. You went downstairs, had a quick breakfast, said goodbye to your family and headed out the door to catch the bus to school. The streets were bustling with students and commuters, and the atmosphere was lively, everyone excited for the weekend ahead.
At school, you went through your usual day. You attended her classes, took notes, and did your best to focus, but your mind kept drifting to the certain yellow hat in your bag. During lunch, the cafeteria was buzzing with activity. You spotted Luffy sitting with his friends, the Straw Hats club, their table lively and full of laughter.
You took a deep breath and started walking towards them, but as you got closer, your anxiety took over. The thought of approaching Luffy in front of all his friends felt overwhelming. You turned around and went to by your lunch mate’s table instead. They greeted you with kind gestures but didn’t bother you throughout the period, sensing your feelings of frustration and irritation.
Throughout the day, you tried to find the right moment to approach him, but he was always surrounded by people. Each time you gathered the courage to walk up to him, your nerves got the better of you.
Finally, the last bell of the day rang, signaling the end of school. Students started to disperse, eager to begin their weekend. You gathered you belongings and decided to make one last attempt. You walked through the emptying hallways, your heart pounding.
Near the bathrooms, you saw Luffy standing alone, adjusting his backpack. This was your chance. You took a deep breath and approached him, your hands nervously trembling slightly.
"Uh, Luffy?" you called out softly.
He turned around, his usual grin lighting up his face. "Oh, hey, Y/N! What’s up?"
You reached into your bag and pulled out his signature yellow hat. "I, um, found this yesterday. It was under a bench in the courtyard, so I took it home and fixed it up for you. It was really teared up from the cap part.”
Luffy’s eyes widened in surprise and delight. "No way! You found it? Thank you so much!" He took the hat from your hands, examining it closely. "Wow, it looks brand new!"
You smiled, feeling a sense of relief. "I’m glad you like it."
Luffy looked at you with genuine gratitude. "You’re really amazing, Y/N. Hey, how about I get you a drink from the vending machine as a thank you?"
Before you could respond, he continued, "Actually, you know what? Let’s go grab something to eat. There’s a small restaurant near the school, you know the pirate seafood themed one. My friends kinda busy right now, so it’ll be just us."
Your eyes widened in surprise. "Um, that sounds great, but—"
Luffy didn’t wait for you to even finish. "Awesome! Meet me there in about an hour, okay?" He gave you a quick wave and jogged off, leaving you standing there, stunned.
As you made her way home to drop off your bag, change out your uniform and freshen up, you couldn’t believe what had just happened. You are going to have dinner with Luffy, alone. A mix of excitement and nervousness filled you, but you knew this was a chance to get to know him better and maybe even become friends.
The sun was setting as you walked to the restaurant, a tiny spark of hope igniting in your heart.
~
You arrived at the small seafood restaurant near the school a little early. It was a cozy place with a warm, welcoming atmosphere. The soft hum of conversation and the scent of delicious food filled the air, making you feel slightly more at ease. You chose a table by the window and sat down, nervously fidgeting with your hands.
After a few minutes, the door swung open, and Luffy walked in, his usual bright smile on his face. He spotted you and made his way over, waving enthusiastically. "Hey, Y/N! Thanks for waiting."
You smiled shyly. "No problem, Luffy. I just got here myself."
Luffy plopped down in the seat across from you, looking around the restaurant with curiosity. "This place looks great! I’ve always wanted to try it."
You nodded. "Mhm, it’s really nice. I’ve heard their food is amazing."
A waiter came by to take their orders, and Luffy, with his usual enthusiasm, ordered a variety of dishes, making you chuckle. You opted for something simple, feeling a bit more relaxed as she watched Luffy’s excitement.
As you both waited for their food, Luffy leaned forward, his eyes shining with curiosity. "So, Y/N, tell me about yourself. I mean, I see you around school, but we’ve never talked at all.”
You felt a bit nervous but was glad for the opportunity to share. "Well, there’s not much to tell. I like reading and studying. I like to hang out with my friends after school, uh.” You slightly lied, not finding the correct answers that will please him so you made something up.
Luffy nodded, listening intently. "That’s cool. I like hanging out with my friends too. We have a LOT of fun together. Hmm do you have any hobbies?"
You thought about it for a moment. "I like drawing and painting. It’s a nice way to relax and express myself."
Luffy’s eyes lit up. "That’s awesome! You should show me your drawings sometime. I bet they’re really good."
Your face slightly warmed at the replied, feeling flattered. "Maybe I will."
Your conversation flowed naturally, with Luffy sharing funny stories about his friends and their adventures, making you laugh. You found yourself feeling more comfortable, enjoying his company and the way made you feel at ease.
When your food arrived, you both dug in with enthusiasm. Luffy’s excitement over the dishes was contagious, and you couldn’t help but smile at his reactions. You shared bites of your meals, laughing and talking about their favorite foods.
As you finished your meals, Luffy leaned back in his chair, looking content. "This was really fun, Y/N. I’m glad we did this. And we ate really really good.”
You nodded, feeling a warm sense of happiness. "Me too, Luffy. Thank you for inviting me."
Luffy grinned. "Hey, anytime! We should hang out more often. You’re really cool, Y/N.”
Your heart fluttered at his words. "I’d like that."
You both split and paid the bill and then left the restaurant, walking side by side under the evening sky. The streets were quiet, and the stars were just slightly starting to appear, creating a scenery.
As you walked, Luffy turned to you. “Thanks again for finding my hat and fixing it up. It really means a lot to me. Like a lot. It’s from a special someone, you know.”
You smiled. "It was my pleasure, Luffy. I’m glad I could help."
You reached the corner where you guys would part ways, and Luffy stopped, looking at you with a sincere expression. “You know, you’re kinda cute, Y/N.”
Luffy gave you a quick, friendly hug, catching you even more off guard and rushing to this way. Before you could even respond, he turned and sprinted towards the bus stop that was different from yours, waving as he went. “See you tomorrow, Y/N! Oh wait— Cya Monday!”
“And don’t forget to meet my friends soon!” He yelled out from the distance before slowing down and riding on his bus home.”
You watched him run off, feeling warmness in your chest. This evening had been more than you could have hoped for. You had spent time with Luffy, shared laughs and stories, and felt a connection growing between you both.
As you made your way home, you couldn’t stop smiling. This was probably just the beginning, and you looked forward to what the future held. For now, you cherished the memories of your first little dinner together.
~
The weekend flew by in a blur of activity. You spent Saturday shopping with your siblings, trying to find clothes that suited your style. You had experienced a small crisis last time, picking out an outfit when you went out with Luffy, and wanted to be more prepared in the future. As you browsed through racks of clothes, she visualized different outfits, hoping to make it easier to plan ahead. You also were in need of some makeup products to try out new looks and enhance it. Your siblings also offered their opinions, turning the shopping trip into a fun bonding experience.
Sunday was a mix of chores, homework, and relaxation. You tackled your assignments in the evening, making sure everything was ready for the upcoming week. Despite the busyness, you still felt a warm, happy glow from Friday’s dinner with Luffy. The memory of your time together lingered, making you smile every time you thought about it.
Monday morning arrived, and you went through your usual routine. You got dressed in your uniform, and applied your makeup, doing a little more than usual going out for a different makeup style. You felt more confident about your appearance. The school day began like any other, and you headed to your locker to gather your things for class.
As you were busy organizing your books, you heard commotion down the hall. It was Luffy was running around, fooling with his friends Usopp, Chopper, and Sanji. Their laughter echoed through the corridor, and you chuckled at their antics.
Suddenly, Luffy came barreling towards you. Before you could react, he ran into you, knocking you to the ground. Your books scattered across the floor, and you looked up in shock. He had clearly seen you in the hallways so you didn’t think you would get caught up in the commotion or be in the way, and left completely caught off guard.
Sanji immediately rushed over to you, scolding Luffy. “Oi, Luffy! Watch where you’re going! You can’t just run into a lady like that!”
He offered his hand to help you up, his expression full of concern. “Are you okay, Miss? That was quite a tumble.”
You nodded, accepting his hand and getting you to your feet. “Yeah, I’m fine. Thank you.”
Luffy scratched his head, looking sheepish. “Sorry about that, Y/N. I didn’t mean to knock you over.”
Sanji continued to fuss over her, making sure she wasn’t hurt. “You need to be more careful, Luffy. You could’ve seriously harmed such a beautiful girl.”
Luffy grinned, seemingly unfazed by the scolding. “Hey, guys, this is Y/N. She’s the girl I told you about from Friday.”
Usopp’s eyes widened, and he elbowed Luffy playfully. “Oh, so this is the girl you went on a date with?”
Luffy laughed, waving off the comment. “It wasn’t a date, Usopp. We just had dinner together.”
Usopp smirked. “Sure, sure. Whatever you say, Luffy.”
Luffy turned back to you, introducing you to his friends. “Y/N, this is Usopp, Chopper, and Sanji. Guys, this is Y/N.”
They all greeted you warmly. Usopp gave you a friendly wave, Chopper smiled shyly, and Sanji bowed slightly, his demeanor polite. “Nice to meet you, Y/N.”
Usopp grinned. “You should sit with us at lunch, Y/N. It’ll be fun.”
Chopper nodded enthusiastically. “Yeah, you should! We’d love to get to know you better.”
Luffy didn’t wait for her to respond. “Yeah, come sit with us! Uh you usually sit with Vivi right?? She’ll be okay with it.”
You felt a mix of excitement and nervousness. You had always admired the close-knit group of friends from afar and now had the chance to join them. “Okay, I’d like that.”
Luffy’s grin widened. “Great! See you at lunch then.”
As they went their separate ways to class, you couldn’t help but feel a flutter of excitement. You had just been pulled into Luffy’s world, and the prospect of getting to know his friends better made your heart race. The morning had started with a bit of chaos, but it was turning out to be an unexpectedly wonderful day.
The day flew by and when lunchtime finally arrived you made your way to the cafeteria, your heart pounding with anticipation. You spotted the usual table where Luffy and his friends gathered, filled with laughter and lively conversation. Taking a deep breath, she approached the table.
Luffy waved over at you enthusiastically. “Y/N! Over here!”
You walked over, feeling a mix of shyness and excitement. The group made room for you, and you sat down next to Luffy. “Hi, everyone.”
Most of them greeting you with the kind smiles.
The table was full of energy and chaos. Luffy and Usopp were animatedly discussing their latest adventure, while Chopper listened with wide-eyed wonder. Sanji was busy serving the cafeteria line, his duty as a volunteered chief in the school.
Y/N also noticed Nami and Robin sitting together, engaged in conversation. Franky was tinkering with something, his mechanical hand making small adjustments, while Brook strummed a soft tune on his guitar. Zoro, as usual, was napping in his seat, his head resting on his folded arms.
Nami looked up and smiled warmly at Y/N. “Hi, Y/N. I’m Nami. I’ve heard from you before from Vivi.”
Robin nodded in agreement. “It’s nice to meet you. I’m Robin. You seem like a very interesting person.”
You felt herself light up under their attention. “Nice to meet you both.”
Sanji, ever the gentleman, made his way to the table and placed an organized and appetizing plate in front of you. “Here you go, Y/N. Enjoy!” While motioning over
to Nami and Robin’s side and also placing their plates down with utensils.
“Hmph. No fair Sanji only bothers to serve the girls.” Usopp grumbled while getting up to line up for a plate.
Luffy and Chopper running behind him as well while chanting “food! food!”
As lunch continued, you felt herself becoming more comfortable. The infamous friend group included you in their conversations, making you feel like part of the group. You laughed at Usopp’s exaggerated stories, listened to Chopper’s excitement about his latest medical class studies, and even joined in when they talked about their favorite foods.
Luffy was his usual cheerful self, making sure you felt included and comfortable. He talked about his friends and the soccer team, explaining how much he loved the sport. “Soccer’s the best! You should come watch our game sometime.”
You smiled. “I might just do that then.”
Luffy’s eyes lit up. “Ahaha. You should meet the rest of the team too.”
The bell ring and as they all got up to head to their next classes, Luffy turned to you with a grin. “See? Told you it’d be fun. You should sit with us every day.”
You smiled back, feeling grateful for his kindness. “Yeah, it was. Thanks, Luffy.”
You headed to class and continued on with your day. Even if before you had noticed some of Luffy’s friends in your classes, you had never approached them. Since you didn’t know them and they didn’t know you, they were just any other classmate although you observed them more than others.
However, now that you were introduced to his gang, some of them now approached you in class. Starting with Nami, whom you have majority of classes with.
It was during AP Geography and Human Studies, that she approached you first. “Hey Y/N. Let’s sit together from now on. I don’t really like the people I sit with in this class.” She mentioned while taking a seat to the always empty chair next to you in class.
“Ah okay,” You replied softly. You didn’t mind her sitting with you at all, infact you hoped she would now that you both know each other. You always had a feeling you would get along with Nami, you were intrigued and inspired by her fashion and her beauty. Alongside her leadership skills and her intelligence. She’s the smartest student in this class, geography being her strongest subject probably.
“You know, you don’t have to be so tense with me. You’re always so quiet and keeping replies short. You can losen up around me. I promise I won’t judge. I want to be your good friend as well.” She motioned, with a gentle smile on her. Her pretty and expressive brown eyes gazing, seemingly analyzing you.
You shy away from her stare and replied, “Mhm okay. Thank you Nami. I want to be your good friend as well. I really admire you, especially your looks.” You hummed softly.
“Aw really? Thanks. I try you know. If you need any tips just let me know like…” She listed some out and you listened attentively. Afterwards, Mr. Cobra, Vivi’s father, made his way to his desk and settled down the class to begin the lesson. Nami and you stopped your conversation and quickly opened your notes to begin.
After the bell rung and the class period ended, you said your goodbyes to Nami for the day since you won’t be seeing her in your last few classes and rushed out to reach the PE locker room before the warning bell rings.
After changing out of your regular uniform and on top your PE one, you made your way to the gymnasium.
You usually just wandered off, never really grouping with other students and letting Mr Shanks just group you in with anybody.
You were standing there, distanced away from others as Mr Shanks explained the rules of the game you’ll be playing today.
You heard noise behind you and look back to see Zoro slowly walking to the circle formed of students in the middle of the gym. He nodded at your direction, his way of greeting and got back to listening to Shank’s instructions.
Zoro was in this class as well, however he was often very late, due to getting “lost” on the way here. You had no clue how he would get lost, sure, the school was fairly big but there was clear signs everywhere of where everything was and directions given out. It was almost halfway through the school year already. Either way. Mr Shanks always left him off the hook and consequence of getting a tardy since Zoro has a defense position on the soccer team, which Shanks coaches.
You hoped you both can get along later on so you won’t feel as alone as you feel in this class, having no companions to practice with and in general, talk while working out. You have observed Zore before and he isn’t really one to talk unless he feels comfortable around you like you seen when he walks with Luffy and Nami in the hallways, fooling around and bickering.
Shank’s whistle broke your train though and signified to get in positions for the game for today. You joined your classmates on the side of the gym, ready to give your best effort. Shanks had a way of making every activity feel like an adventure, his laughter echoing across the gym building as he encouraged everyone to push their limits and have fun.
~
The day flew by in a blur of lectures, assignments, and fleeting interactions. You navigated your classes with a focused determination.
As the final bell rang, signaling the end of the school day, you mentally reviewed your upcoming challenges. Tomorrow was going to be a kinda busy day, with a presentation for Biology with Mr. Jinbei and a chemistry quiz for Mr. Caesar Clown. You felt a familiar twinge of nervousness but also a sense of readiness. You had prepared thoroughly, and while the thought of presenting in front of the class made you stomach flutter, you knew she could handle it.Gathering your things, you made your way to her locker and then we’re ready to go home.
You exited the school building, your backpack feeling heavier than usual with the chem book in there needed for future later today. The day had been long and stressful, filled with classes and looming quizzes. You put on your headphones, scrolling through your playlist and settled for a soothing track to calm your mind. While you like to observe your surroundings and take in all visual and sound, you also often needed music playing in your ears to ease you up.
Lost in your own thoughts, you didn’t notice the group of your newly made friends gathered near the school entrance until you heard your name being called.
“Y/N!” Luffy’s voice was unmistakable, full of enthusiasm. You turned to see him jogging towards you, his friends following closely behind.
“Hey, Y/N!” Nami waved, her brown eyes sparkling with excitement. “We’re going to get boba drinks. Wanna join us?”
“It’s all last minute,” Luffy added, grinning widely. “Nami was craving it, and now we’re all going together.”
You hesitated for a moment, your initial instinct to retreat into your comfort zone fighting with the opportunity to spend more time with them. But the inviting smiles on their faces made the decision easier.
“Okay, I’d love to,” you replied, a small smile tugging at your plumped lips.
The group walked to the nearby boba shop, the lively chatter making you feel a part of something special, again. You noticed Zoro trailing behind, looking half-sleepy, while Sanji animatedly discussing some food recipes with Robin, who listened with her usual calm and attentive demeanor, with Franky’s hand in hers. Brook and him engaged in a playful debate about music, and Usopp was excitedly talking about a new gadget he was working on.
Your back also felt lighter than before. Before making the sightly distanced walk to the boba shop, Sanji had offered to carry your backpack, carrying his and Nami’s as well. You were about to declined until Luffy just snatched it off your back and carried it for you, grinning cutely at you.
Continuing, he walked alongside you, chatting about his upcoming soccer match this weekend. “Shouldn’t you be practicing today? I thought practices was required every day after school.” You asked curiously.
“Oh yeah, we did but Shanks had something after school. So practice was cancelled today.” Luffy replied.
“You should come watch us practice tomorrow tho! And come to our game this weekend. Shanks always takes us out to eat if we win, and i’m sure we will so i’ll sneak you in with us.” Luffy added on, with his signature mischievous grin on his face and a little twinkle in his eyes.
“Mhm, i’ll be there. I’ll have to ask my parents for permission if it’s during the weekend tho.” You replied back, with more confidence than usual that ignited from his invitation. Your heart felt light and bubbly.
At the boba shop, you all crowded around the counter, each of them choosing their favorite flavors. You, feeling a bit overwhelmed, let them decide for you.
“Get her the taro milk tea,” Nami suggested. “It’s a safe choice.”
When their drinks arrived, they found a large table to accommodate everyone. The conversation flowed effortlessly, with Nami and Robin making sure you felt included. The group’s dynamic shone through. Luffy, being his usual playful self, grabbed a handful of boba balls and stuck them to his teeth, making silly faces. Nami and Usopp laughed, quickly snapping pictures with their phones.
“Hey, Y/N, you’re gonna love this,” Luffy said, his voice slightly muffled by the boba balls.
You chuckled softly, feeling a warm sense of belonging. Despite the chaos, there was a sense of harmony among them, and you felt yourself relax.
“So, Y/N, what do you think?” Nami asked, gesturing to the taro milk tea.
You took a sip, the creamy sweetness spreading across your tongue. “It’s really good,” you said, smiling.
As you continued to chat and enjoy the drinks, Luffy and Usopp started a mini food fight with the boba balls, much to Sanji’s chagrin. Zoro, who had snapped off his sleepy mode joined in, adding to the chaos. Franky laughed, encouraging their antics while Robin watched with an amused smile and Brook laughing with his silly ‘Yohoho’ echoing throughout the shop.
You found yourself laughing along, your earlier stress melting away. The group vibrant energy and camaraderie were infectious, and you felt grateful to be a part of it.
You noticed Chopper beside you had pulled out his chemistry notes, flipping through them with a determined look. You seeing this, decided to join him, grabbing some of your notes and reviewing for the quiz.
“You’re really serious about this,” You remarked, impressed.
“Of course! I want to do well,” Chopper said, his eyes shining with determination.
You nodded, feeling a kinship with the little brown haired guy. As you both studied, the others continued their lively conversations, occasionally glancing over and offering their good-lucks for tomorrow’s quiz.
After a while, Usopp pulled out his phone, scrolling through the pictures they had taken. “HA, send me that one. Luffy looks so stupid.”Nami laughed, while pulling out her phone, which you noticed had a clear case and a small polaroid of Vivi decorated with hearts.
“Hey, Y/N, wanna be in your group chat?” Usopp asked, turning to you.
“um yeah,” you softly replied, nodding your head.
“Give me your account info then ,” Usopp said, grinning. “I’ll add you to it. We use it a lot to keep in touch and plan stuff.”
Feeling a bit overwhelmed but touched by their inclusiveness, you gave Usopp her details. He quickly added you to the chat, and soon enough, her phone buzzed with new notifications.
“Welcome to the crew!” Usopp announced, giving you a thumbs up.
As the evening progressed, the boba drinks were finished amidst laughter and animated conversations. Nearly three hours had passed in the cozy boba shop, and outside, the sun had begun its descent, casting a warm glow over the autumn-colored trees.
With the daylight fading, the group started to gather their things, mindful of the time. Nami and Robin, ever the nurturing duo, insisted that you don’t take the bus home with the evening growing late.
“It’s not safe,” Nami stated firmly, her concern evident in her expression.
“I agree. Let us get you an Uber,” Sanji chimed in, offering his phone.
Luffy, who had offered to walk with you part of the way to the bus station, looked slightly disappointed at the plan changing.
“Aw, c’mon guys, she’ll be fine,” Luffy protested, though his concern was genuine.
“It’s better this way, Luffy,” Robin reassured him with a gentle smile. “We’ll make sure she gets home safely.”
Reluctantly, Luffy nodded, understanding their point. Sanji ordered an Uber for you, ensuring the destination was set correctly before you handled the phone back.
“Make sure you get home safe, okay?” Luffy said earnestly, his usual carefree demeanor momentarily replaced by a more serious tone.
You nodded, touched by his concern. “Thank you, Luffy. I had a great time today.”
“Me too!” Luffy grinned, his usual cheerfulness returning. “You better come next time we go out again.”
With a wave to the others and a final thank you, you stepped into the waiting Uber. The ride home was quiet, the events of the day replaying in your mind. You felt a warmth in your chest, a mix of happiness and gratitude for the new friendships that was forming.
~
Arriving home, you settled into her room, feeling content. changing to your pijamas and climbing to your bed. You just layed down, enjoying the silence that your home offered as late night approached. Until you felt vibrations coming from your phone, notifications from the LINE app popping up. It was the group chat Usopp had added you to.
You browsed through the messages, saving the silly pictures Usopp took of Luffy earlier. Giggling at some of their funny remarks and insults to one other. You sent Sanji a quick thank you text for the uber he ordered for you earlier, and receiving a corny reply, ‘Anytime Y/N gorgeous 😍!’ followed by a long lines full of hearts and more romantic emojis.
Then Nami complained to shut up because she needs to sleep. You turned off your phone and settled it down, while going to the washroom and starting your night routine of skin care and brushing your teeth. Afterwards, you tugged into your bed and attempted to close your eyes and fall into sleep.
Your mind drifting back to the whirlwind of events that had recently brought you closer to Luffy and his friends. Reflecting on the day, it had been filled with laughter, camaraderie, and unexpected moments—a day you will fondly recall as you drifted into dreams of your subconscious.

I’m Not Your F*cking Maid
Chapter 4
We spent a few hours researching and looking into the First Blades whereabouts after dinner, Dean and I only making work-related conversations after the pie ordeal. Every now and then when I looked up from the book I was reading I’d catch him looking in my direction, but I was far too tired for any more confrontation - I knew he'd act like an ass if I said anything. I decided to head to bed at around midnight, unable to read more than a few words and actually process said words in my brain. As Sam was still asleep, Dean showed me to my room which was tragically opposite his, and I could only imagine the noises that I’d be hearing coming through that door. Getting ready for bed, I dug out an old boyfriends T-shirt that I was still in possession of and threw it on, making sure to remove all other items of clothing except my panties. I climbed into bed - which was surprisingly more comfortable than I’d anticipated, though the sheets smelt a little musty - and set an alarm on my phone so I could hopefully rise before the boys in the morning. The moment my head hit the pillow, sleep whisked me away, not giving me a chance to think about the wild day I’d had and the total jackass that I’d met.
*
My alarm rang at 5am and I crawled out of bed, dressing in yesterday’s jeans with a clean, low-cut tank top and an open flannel thrown over the top. Pulling on my boots, I ran my fingers through my hair before heading to the en suite bathroom to brush my teeth. As I turned on the tap, the pipes clanged alarmingly as a small stream of water trickled from the faucet, the harsh noise echoing around the small tiled room. “That’s not concerning at all,” I mumbled to myself, the noise finally stopping as I turned the tap off. After I’d finished brushing I headed back into the bedroom to grab my phone before leaving the room to walk wearily to the kitchen. Upon arrival, I instantly made a pot of coffee, the smell alone already helping to blow away the sleepy cobwebs in my mind. I needed food. Something good, like pancakes. So I rummaged around until I found everything I needed, starting to memorise where the brothers kept everything after spending so much time in here yesterday evening. As I whipped up the batter, I threw some bacon in a pan and placed three plates on the table, along with some mugs, the pot of coffee and a big bottle of maple syrup. As soon as I started cooking the batter, it was like I’d used a summoning spell.
“You know when I first woke up I thought that I’d dreamt you up in some sort of weirdly tame nightmare” Dean said in a deep and raspy, fresh-from-sleep tone as he paced into the room and sat at the table, rubbing his eyes.
“Is that your way of saying that I’m your dream girl, Winchester?” I teased as I poured him a mug of coffee. He smirked, not looking up at me.
“You wish darlin’.”
“I really don’t,” I turned back to the stove and flipped the pancake, taking a sip from my own mug.
I’d made a stack of maybe twelve pancakes by the time Sam arrived, greeting me with that warm smile of his as he took a seat opposite Dean.
“Good morning (Y/n), something smells amazing.”
“Good morning Sam,” I smiled back at him before I looked over at Dean, “That’s how you greet someone in the morning Dean, not by telling them they were part of your living nightmare.” Dean shrugged, taking a long drink from his coffee.
Sam gave me an almost apologetic look on his brothers behalf, saying quietly, “as charming as ever then, Dean.” As he sat down I placed the stack of pancakes along with the bacon on the table and both men’s eyes lit up, immediately picking up their cutlery.
“Help yourselves,” I said, taking a seat between them, “just leave a couple for me at least.”
Dean was the first to pile about five onto his plate along with a good portion of the bacon. Without even looking at me he placed two pancakes on my own plate as he reached for the maple syrup. Before I could ask for the bacon, it was Sam who served some up for me before giving himself whatever was left over before handing me the syrup.
“Oh, thanks guys…” I said, a little shocked at how weirdly coordinated they were with that whole task.
“You’re welcome,” they both managed to mumble out through huge mouthfuls of food. We sat in a strangely nice silence for a few minutes, the only noise to be heard was the sounds of breakfast being totally annihilated. Dean was the first to throw his cutlery down with a very satisfied groan. He stretched, his T-shirt rising slightly to show his incredibly toned abdomen.
For fucks sake.
“THAT is what powers a man up in the morning,” he said, his fingers interlaced behind his head.
“Mmm hmm,” was all I managed to get out, finding it annoyingly difficult to look away, let alone to stop my eyes from trailing to where his leather belt hugged his hips and his old denim jeans gripped the thick muscles of his thighs. A few seconds must’ve passed when he cleared his throat and my eyes snapped up to be immediately caught in that moss-green gaze. Shit. I thought maybe for a second that he didn’t notice me looking. But then the corner of his mouth twitched up into that infuriating smirk. Luckily for me, he didn’t say anything, but I watched as he dragged his gaze over my figure, similar to how I did with him. It was Sam who spoke up next and I tore my eyes away, letting out a breath as he saved me from Deans silent interrogation.
“So I read last night about a possible case,” he started to say as he finished chewing the last bit of food on his plate before pushing it away and turning towards us.
“Go on,” Dean said, leaning forwards - finally covering his exposed stomach.
“I think it’s a haunting - some sort of item possession involving a ghost. All of the accidents that have been happening seem to occur either around or directly within an old antique store that’s connected to an old auction house. I think it’s worth a look,” Sam opened his laptop that he’d placed on the seat next to him, showing us all of the research he’d done overnight. Looking at the evidence he’d piled together, I think he was on to something. I nodded.
“Sure, I’m in. I’ll go pack a bag,” I said, standing up and clearing the plates from the table.
“Hang on a second,” Dean spoke up and I immediately knew he was talking to me.
“What?”
“What makes you think you’re coming with us for this?” His brows furrowed slightly.
“Because I never get to work out in the field - Bobby always had me on book duty and I want to see some real hunting in action,” I raised my voice a little starting to get defensive.
“If Bobby never let you do field work then neither are we. You’re staying here,” his tone was stern as he downed the last of the coffee and stood up, towering over me.
“What?!” I almost shouted.
“Dean, I don’t think it’s your place to say what she can and can’t do. I say we let her come along,” Sam intervened, his voice always full of reason and reassurance. I gave him a half smile - a small, ‘thank you for sticking up for me’.
“No way. There’s no way I’m letting Bobby’s girl put herself in danger. The old bastard would find a way to make us pay if anything were to happen to her; even from beyond the grave.”
“I don’t need you taking on his role, Dean. Bobby kept me safe my whole life, just him. I’m sure the pair of you could look out for me no problem on a little ghost trip,” I chided, coming up with a plan to get Dean to agree to me coming.
“(Y/n)s right, this shouldn’t be a hard case for us - if anything this is a small break from the real hard work,” Sam stepped towards Dean, trying to reassure him.
Dean looked from Sam to myself, and when our eyes locked I let a sly smile crawl onto my lips.
“Or maybe Dean Winchester isn’t up to the challenge?” I said, holding my hands up. He frowned, opening his mouth but I spoke again before he could get his words out. “Maybe….,” I stepped towards him, now only a few inches between us, “Dean Winchester is losing his touch, and isn’t the big strong man he used to be and really won’t be able to keep me safe…?” I flashed Dean my best doe eyes and I heard him suck in a breath as I reached forwards and tugged slightly on his T-shirt, making him look down at me with his eyes flicking between mine - dilating a little. I couldn’t help but bite my lip, looking up at him through my lashes and pressing my fingertips to his chest, feeling his heart rate increase with every beat from my touch. I liked to think that I was being very ‘persuasive’.
“I think you’re right (Y/n), I don’t think Dean is up to the task. He’s definitely been losing his touch,” Sam spoke up, catching on with my game and joining in with the verbal attack on his older brother. Deans eyes snapped up to look at Sam and the almost trance-like state he was in before was shattered.
“I have NOT lost my touch!” He snapped. Sam and I looked at each other and exploded into laughing very fake laughs, clapping and wiping away a pretend tear.
“Sure thing ‘sweetheart’,” I said, “prove it - keep me safe.”
“Oh I’ll keep you safe,” Dean took the bait and barged past us, “I’ll keep you safe from your own fucking shadow.”
*
After a few hours of packing and travelling, we arrived in a very well manicured town - even the motel was decent. Upon checking in, we got two rooms; one for me and one for the boys.
“Let’s drop our stuff off, freshen up and meet back here in ten?” Sam said, checking his watch. It was just past 11am.
“Sure, sounds good,” I replied, and Dean just nodded in approval. Their room was further down the corridor than mine, so I watched them leave before entering my room. It was the usual layout: one double bed, cheap linens, an old TV and an under-stocked minibar. At least the decor wasn't completely brown. I dumped my bags on the floor and started to unpack some essentials. I laid my clothes out on the bed - some of these outfits may come in handy later on. For now though, I’ll just stick to what I was already wearing. Lastly I grabbed a tin that was down in the bottom of my duffle - inside was a bunch of fake IDs that Bobby insisted on making me a few years ago. I smiled, remembering him always answering the phone to the Winchesters, pretending to be their FBI boss. I was always dying to know what they were hunting when he got those phone calls. I admired them a lot back then. I shook away the memory and pocketed the IDs, marching to the bathroom and splashing some water on my face before leaving, locking the door behind me.
The boys were already waiting for me.
“You boys ready?” I asked, to which they both nodded. “Where to first?” my question was aimed at Sam, but Dean replied.
“The old antique store just down here on the corner,” he grumbled as we started walking, still unimpressed that I was tagging along. I shot him a look as he practically glared at me from the other side of Sam.
“Get over yourself Dean. I’m along for the ride so deal with it,” I snapped at him, hoping he un-rustles his jimmies quickly. I wasn’t going to let him drag me down, not when I’m excited to actually be on a case. My first ‘out in the field’ case of all things. I wanted this to be a good memory. He scrunched his face up at my words, mouthing an angry ‘I hate you’ at me, to which I flipped him off.
“Guys just behave yourselves!” Sam stopped in his tracks right as we were outside our destination. “We are professionals so we need to act like it. We’re here to do our job,” Sam said in an authoritative voice - which undeniably sounded very attractive on him. I walked a few steps ahead of them and stopped with my hand on the front door to the store.
“Sam’s right. I’m happy to be here helping these people,” I smiled a little too sweetly before throwing a dark look at Dean, “so pull your shit together Dean, you’re making us look bad.” I heard him start to protest before I pushed the door open and walked into the shop, hearing the two brothers scurrying to catch up with me. As we walked in we were greeted by an older gentleman, with a kind face, a neatly trimmed pure white beard and round specs.
“Good morning and welcome to the store,” he said, his voice soft, “Can I help you?” He looked between the three of us. The boys reached for the fake badges, but they were lost for words when I beat them to the chase - obviously being unaware that I’d come prepared. Holding my badge up for the older gent to see, I spoke without missing a beat.
“Hi! Yes you certainly can help me - I’m agent Granger and these,” I jabbed my thumb to Sam and Dean who were standing right behind me, “are agents Crabbe and Goyle. We’ve got some questions for you regarding the strange occurrences going on around here recently.”
“Of course, it’s about time these things were investigated,” the older man turned and beckoned for us to follow, which Sam did immediately. Dean and I were left behind, staring each other down. I could tell he wasn’t happy that I had a badge, and I couldn’t help but smile at that. He scowled.
“This isn’t a fucking game.”
“You’re just mad that I got one up on you so early on,” I grinned up at him, his frown not budging.
“Just don’t do anything stupid,” he huffed.
“I’m safe from doing you then aren’t I?” I couldn’t stop the words from spilling from my lips.
“What?” He looked at me like I’d sprouted a second head, obviously not catching on. I chuckled a little, walking past him to catch up with Sam, leaving him standing there confused.
“Don’t think too hard about it Dean, you might hurt yourself,” I called back over my shoulder.
“Fuck y- hang on- oh you BITCH!” He shouted after me as he caught on finally. I laughed, not looking back.
“Only to you Dean.”

Five times you and Addison Montgomery almost kiss, and the one time you do, please?
i love addie so much she’s so cute! also, i wasn’t sure if you preferred this to take place during greys or private practice, so i went with greys!
tw: mentions of vomiting
a story for the grandkids
1.
It was in the crossing of early morning, late night.
You’d been at the hospital for over forty-eight hours. And only about ten of that had been small naps.
Being on Addison’s service was kicking your ass, but you wanted to be an OBGYN with your whole heart and soul, and you would give up anything for that. Even a little sleep.
You were currently watching over a baby whose mother had just left her.
This world was messed up, and you hated people for it. Sometimes you thought you were too empathetic for this world, but that’s what made you a great doctor.
Or at least that’s what Addison told you.
You’re drifting to sleep as you feel a tug on your pointer finger. You spent most of the night just watching the tiny humans chest thump with heartbeats.
But now you were getting restless, and there hadn’t been any response from the baby at all until now.
You sat up excitedly at the small on and off pressure being added to your finger.
“Hi, sweet girl,” You run your thumb over her small knuckles. “That’s it. You’re so strong.”
Your eyes are sparkling and your lips are wide with a large smile plastering your face.
Addison watches the interaction from across the NICU, and she thinks it’s the cutest thing she’s ever witnessed. She’s worked with a lot of aspiring interns interested in neonatal work, but she’s never met someone like you.
“Everything okay?” Addison is watching you more than the baby.
“Yes!” You are bouncing in your seat. “She— she’s responsive. I’ll admit, I was falling asleep for a second— but I felt a tug on my finger, and— she’s so strong, Dr. Montgomery.”
“Please, call me Addison,” She smiles at you, grabbing a pen from her lab coat to mark the newfound information on the chart. “And thank you for being honest with me. This is amazing news.”
“If I have to call you Addison, you should call me Y/n,” You try to convince her.
Addison chuckles, “We’ll see.”
You lower your head so your level with the incubator, your eyes closing slightly.
Addison looks up from the chart, her lips tilting up from hearing your small snores.
“Dr. Y/l/n,” Addison clears her throat, and you jump awake.
“Huh?” You rub your eyes, letting go of the babies hand for the first time in hours.
“You should go home. Get some sleep,” Addison nods.
“But— I still have a few more hours—“
“I’m telling you to go home,” Addison places her pen back in the pocket she retrieved it. “You came in early yesterday, therefore, I’m cutting you off for today.”
“Okay,” You chuckle. You stand and come closer to her, moving to stand between the incubator and her. “I’ll see you..”
“Whenever I please,” Addison gives you a breathtaking smile, only now realizing the two of you are very close.
She thinks about it for a split second, her eyes closing in on your lips. But she clenches her jaw and takes a tiny step back.
She’s grateful you’re too tired to remember this tomorrow.
“Go on, Dr. Y/l/n,” Addison nods towards the door to the NICU.
2.
You huff for what had to be the hundredth time in the past hour.
There was nothing you hated more than plastics. It wasn’t the treatments, per se.. actually, that was part of it. You hated seeing them in pain as you dressed their burns and their cries.
But you also hated Mark Sloan. You could feel his stares on you as you worked on what he’d asked. He treated you like an object, and you were over it.
You also hated him because of the way he treated Addison.
Yes, you know, she was definitely in the wrong, but she’s apologized and everyone is over it. At least everyone except Mark.
“Y/l/n. If you huff one more time you’ll be on dry cleaner and coffee duty,” Mark threatens.
Although it wasn’t really a threat to you. It was better than wondering when he was going to pounce on you.
“It’s better than being here,” You mumble, finishing a dressing on a mans hand. He was a champ.
“What? Wanna share with the class?”
“I said it’s better than being here,” You finally snapped. “I will happily get your coffee and dry cleaning.”
“Perfect,” Mark flashed you a smile without even telling you where to go and what to get. You’d just ask Alex.
You somehow managed to stumble into the NICU, in search for Alex, but you didn’t find him.
You only found Addison.
“Oh, thank god. Someone sane,” Addison comes towards you and puts her hands on your shoulders.
“I don’t know about that,” You laugh. “But I do know I might kill Mark Sloan tonight.”
“Ugh, you got Mark? Out of everyone?” Addison grimaces. “I’m sorry. I’ll help you plan.”
“Amazing,” You smiled blissfully— just being in the NICU and near Addison is what you needed to calm yourself.
You lean your forehead on Addison’s shoulder, and you feel Addison’s hand make its way to the back of your head.
When you lift your head, your mouth is awfully to the side of Addison’s face.
She locks eyes with you but moves her head to the side, away from your face. She notices Alex towards the back of the room, flirting with a nurse.
“Karev, show Y/l/n where Dr. Sloan gets his coffee and his dry cleaning.”
3.
Nothing could have prepared you for what went wrong on that table today.
You knew this was a possibility going into neonatal, and fetal, but even that couldn’t have prepared you for the first death of a mother.
You didn’t even know what went wrong, really.
The mother was fine— you were delivering her baby by C-section and then all of the sudden she started crashing.
Addison had to lead you to the side before she tried to save the patient. You just stood there. Painless, numb, frozen.
It was like you couldn’t breathe.
And when Addison called time of death you all but ran out of the operating room and towards an on-call room.
You were sitting on the edge of the bed, your scrub cap in your hands as you leaned your head back in hopes to get the tears to go away.
“Y/l/n,” Addison crouches down in front of you, her hand finding a comforting spot on your knee.
You try to ignore the burning sensation of her hand through your scrubs.
“I don’t—“ Your voice cracks and you move your hands to your face, crying into the scrub cap.
“Shh,” Addison shushes you, running another comforting hand up and down the side of your thigh. “We had no idea that was going to happen. It’s not your fault.”
“But her poor husband,” Your words are muffled through the cap. “And the baby..”
“I know,” Addison removes her hand from the side of your leg and moves your hand from your face. “It’s okay.”
Addison lifts herself from the floor and to the bed beside you.
She looks at you with sympathy, because she remembers the first mother she lost. It tore her apart just as it was doing to you.
“It will get better,” Addison promises.
“It’s not fair,” You blow out a breath. “She was fine.”
“Stop. You’re getting yourself worked up,” Addison frowns, pulling you into her side.
You melt into her side, your left leg moving on top of her own. You vigorously wipe at your tears, but they just keep coming.
You sob into her shoulder for a few minutes, soaking her dark blue scrubs to a darker blue.
Addison lifts your head to see your face.
It’s mostly dark in the room, only a small lamp sat on the desk in the back corner. You could barely see her face, but she could see yours perfectly.
She wipes the tears from your face and pushes the damp hair away that sticks onto your face.
Your eyelashes stick together as you look down at her lips slightly, and back up towards her eyes.
“You okay?” Addison’s eyes make their way down to your lips.
She leans forward, and she almost thinks she’s going to, but she pulls you in for a hug.
“Yeah,” You sigh.
4.
“It’d be nice if I could breathe right now,” You joked, although it wasn’t really a joke. It felt like the air had been swept from your lungs.
How did you get stuck with your hand on the bomb?, was a very good question.
One you definitely didn’t have the answer to.
All you knew was the second the paramedics hand was out of there, yours was right inside the body.
Your hand was growing tired, but you really didn’t want to die today. You haven’t even really fell in love yet, not really, and that’s something you’d like to experience before dying.
The next few minutes fly by in a blur. Meredith and Cristina come up with a plan to safely take care of the bomb, and the next second your out the door. Praying to any Gods above that you make it out of this alive.
“Breathe, Y/n,” Meredith reminds you.
“I cant,” You let out a shaky gust of air. “I really c— can’t.”
“Come on, now is not the time to have an asthma attack,” Cristina curses. “I don’t have her extra inhaler, do you?”
“No.. she gave it to..”
“Addison,” The two say together.
“Crap,” You gasp for air.
“Okay, here’s what we’re going to do,” Burke looks between the two - Meredith and Cristina - as a sheen of sweet forms on his forehead. “One of you are going to have to take over for her and the other needs to take her to Dr. Montgomery now. Before things get out of hand and we all die.”
“You’re right,” Meredith nods. “Okay, I’ve got it. A count of three, Y/n, got it?”
“Yes,” You’re trying to inhale anything at this point, but you can’t seem to grab anything.
You successfully make the trade off with Meredith, and your anxiety skyrockets as you are forced to leave her behind.
“Y/n—“
“I know,” You share a silent understanding with your best friend.
Tell him.
I know.
“Come on, let’s go,” Cristina tugs on your arm and takes you right towards the redhead.
“Oh, y/n,” Addison dives right into your arms, unaware of the fact that you can’t breathe at all. “Thank god you’re alright. You are okay, right? I don’t see any bruises.”
“Dr. Montgomery,” Cristina breaks the moment. “You have her inhaler?”
“Oh!” Addison sees the paleness in your face and begins reaching for your inhaler, finding it in her back pocket. “Here.”
Addison doesn’t care about the blood coating your hand as she holds your hand to help you with your inhaler.
Addison leans her face forward to make sure you’re doing it right, and when you remove your hand her lips are awfully close to your face.
You take a sharp inhale of breath you didn’t have a second ago, and you actually think she’s gonna go through with it for a second.
But you had an audience, and she didn’t want your first kiss to be in front of her ex-husband and your subordinates.
“You’re okay?” Addison checks over you.
“You called me by my name,” Is the first thing you say when you’re fully back.
Addison laughs, “I did.”
5.
You giggle to yourself as you sit at the bar in Joes.
You were all supposed to originally go there so you could drink and do trauma dumps for the week, but everyone got called in for their respective specialties, except you.
A familiar fragrance hits your nose, and you rest back, almost falling out of the stool at the bar.
“Woah there,” Addison catches you quickly before you fall.
“Addie,” You sigh in content, laying your arm across the table, your head resting in the crook of your arm.
“Hm?” Addison presses her lips together. “Meredith told me I might find you here.”
“She did?” You ask with a little too much excitement.
“Yeah,” Addison laughs at you. “What happened? Are you upset? Is that why you’re like this?”
“Nooooo,” You poke her on the nose.
You begin to stand, putting your coat on due to the frigid weather.
“Where are you off to?” Addison stands quickly, following you right out the door.
“The hospital!” You gasp. “To save more babies. I like babies. I want babies. I want them with this one person, but I don’t think they want them with me. Which is okay! I’m.. I think I’m gonna throw up.”
Addison follows you to the grass, holding your hair back as you empty your stomach onto the ground.
She pushes down the jealousy as she rubs your back soothingly.
You lean up fast, looking her in the eyes with the most adorable expression (in her opinion).
You give a wide smile, leaning forward the slightest bit.
She does think about it, but your first kiss shouldn’t be this way. You wouldn’t even be able to remember it in the morning. And your mouth tasted awful.
“Come on,” Addison steers you away from the grass and back into the bar. “Let’s get you a coffee. Maybe some fries. How does that sound?”
You groan in response.
+1
Weddings really just irked you. And you didn’t know what it was about them.
Maybe the fact that you spend so much money for a stupid party you won’t even remember in two years, but Addison seemed to love it.
That’s the only reason you were going - was for Addison.
You’d noticed over the past few weeks how close Addison has come to kissing you. You were really hoping today might be it.
You were a bridesmaid, due to you being one of Cristina’s very best friends.
Although right now you were really regretting even agreeing in the first place.
First off, you hated the dress. Brown? Out of any color? Second, (again on the dress) it didn’t fit your body type well at all. And lastly, you were beginning to think there wouldn’t even be a wedding.
Cristina kept freaking out. All day. And now you could hear someone approaching the door. You had a feeling it was Burke.
Meredith calls for you and when you come to the door it’s not Burke.
It’s Addison.
“Addison,” You slip out of the room. “What’s wrong? Is everything okay with Burke?”
“Everything’s okay for now,” Addison keeps a stoic expression on her face. “But is she almost ready? He’s getting antsy, and he might not go through with it.”
You clench your jaw, shaking your head.
“I’m not even the maid of honor and I’m running around fixing everything?” You whisper-shout.
“Don’t get mad at me,” Addison lifts her brows.
“I’m just— this whole wedding is a disaster. First these stupid dresses, second the bachelorette party? I mean, what the hell kind of party was that?! And now Cristina can’t remember her vows, and there may as well—“
You’re cut off by Addison’s lips smashing onto yours.
“Finally,” You sigh, leaning into her.
Her hands find your hips, grabbing onto them as she pushes you against the wall. Your arms wrap around her neck.
“And for the record,” She says between kisses. “I love this dress on you.”
This was a story for the grandkids.

the second that you close your door, you can’t help but speak aloud to yourself, “what the fuck was that?” you run both of your hands through your hair, leaning against the other side of the door “what the fuck was that?” you say, louder this time accompanied by a harsh scoff and only the start of another sentence, “i- fucking-.”
it’s nearly 2 in the morning. you left your dorm room over half an hour ago tired and annoyed and now you can’t fucking imagine sleeping. you know that you won’t have to deal with any banging, that time has come and gone. and it figures that the one night you know you’re guaranteed no more noises, you’re shocked awake by one stupid fucking interaction.
your dorm room isn’t big by any means. there really isn’t enough room to pace the floor and yet here you are, walking the length repetitively, turning on your heel when you couldn’t walk forwards any longer. when atsumu wasn’t in front of you, it was easy enough to maintain your annoyance or, at the bare minimum, not instantly forgive him for being so inconsiderate. it was easy enough to pretend that at some point tomorrow you were going to bring up this fact.
“hey, so about my sleep schedule,” you practice aloud, well, aloud was an understatement, more like every few syllables made it past your lips. you shake your head, groaning to yourself as you sit down on the edge of your bed. “funny story, actually,” you say, gesturing with your hands to the thought of tomorrow’s atsumu. “fuck.”
maybe instead you would just focus on saying actual cohesive words this time. maybe that would be enough.
/++/
yesterday, yesterday you were caught off guard. you were tired. you were defeated. you thought you would have to return to a room full of irritatingly repetitive noises. it wasn’t even a thought in your mind that you’d meet him last night. you weren’t going to take the blame for the state you were in or the way that he affected you.
but today? today you were a new person, reinvigorated by the 3 hours of uninterrupted sleep you got, the productiveness of your 9am class, and the will to make sure that you looked like an actual human being when he saw you this time. you wouldn’t admit it, the amount of time and effort and the preparation that you took in your appearance, made sure to sneak around your dorm so as to not hint that you were awake early.
the entire time that you’re getting ready, there are a million thoughts going through your head. most of them circle around the fear that you’re going to look like an idiot again. some of them about how stupid it was that you were going to lunch with the person who’s made your life the most difficult in these past months. and the most recent one you’ve landed on is that the two of you never settled on a time. what if you spent that much time getting ready, wasted countless hours of pointless thinking about things that just weren’t going to happen? what if he didn’t remember or just blew you off?
knock knock knock. you scramble to your feet from the seated position you resided in on the floor. 12:01pm. you don’t have to peek through your peephole to know who was at your door, but you do anyway.
and god are you glad that you did. it at least gave you some time to be prepared for the sight that was a dressed up, put together, looking far too good in casual wear atsumu. it’s silly now, in hindsight, that you hadn’t thought of the fact that he would also have time to be put together today rather than you catching him completely off guard on your walk home.
but you’re smart. you take a step away from the door, take a deep breath, and call out, “grabbing my bag, one sec.” that will buy you a few moments to prepare yourself. you throw on your shoes, grab your bag like you said you were, and you take one last look through the peephole.
then it hits you. he did also have the ability and time to get ready just like you and, just like you, he obviously utilized every second of it. you smile a bit to yourself, turning the knob and opening your door. “cannot believe my quietness has finally earned me a free lunch.” it comes out of you easily, not forced. you didn’t have to think about it all night or mull over it while you were getting ready.
he doesn’t say anything back to you as you step outside into the hallway next to him, turning around and locking the door behind you. in fact, all you get in return is a small laugh so you push on, “where are you taking me?”
“oh, yea,” he clears his throat, “what are you in the mood for?”
“you’re going to make your date choose where we go to eat?” you ask, furrowing your eyebrows at him before focusing on putting your keys in your bag. besides, you’re not sure that you could keep this up if you kept making eye contact with him.
“i- well,” he tries, stopping himself and starting again. he gets a bit more traction, regains a bit more of the ground that he lost the second you looked that good standing in your doorway. “a date? i’m not sure i’m dressed up enough for a date-”
“i think you look really nice,” you say, holding eye contact with him as long as you can bare it. you don’t dare look down, don’t allow yourself the pleasure of taking him in, not yet. instead, you place your hand on his chest for just a fraction of a moment, just enough for the flat of your palm to feel a single heartbeat, and then you turn to walk down the hall.
you’re already making your way towards the elevator, nodding your head towards the exit as if he hasn’t also lived there the past 2 months. “hey! you stole my line!” god, he’s not used to this. he stammers as he jogs to catch up to you. guess you’re not the one that looks like an idiot this time.
“gotta be quicker than that,” you say, turning around once you’ve gotten to the elevator, putting your weight into your heels as he takes two long strides to catch up with you. in those two long strides, you let yourself falter, breath catching as you make the mistake of taking him in as he steps right in front of you.
his blonde hair is no longer tangled in the back, but you still find yourself wanting to run your fingers through it, still find yourself wanting to know how easy it is to get as tangled as it was yesterday, still find yourself wanting to hear the sound that comes out of him when you grab a fistful. the neatness of it all is making it even worse.
he’s wearing a different jacket this time, dark denim, no longer shirtless underneath but wearing a plain white t-shirt that’s loosely tucked into his cuffed -fucking cuffed- tan pants. his bangs are no longer resting against his forehead, instead pushed up and back revealing more of his face, revealing more of this two step behind expression on his face.
and, fuck, if you couldn’t look at that forever.
it’s gone too soon, replaced by a devilish smile, hand out in front of him as he steps closer to you, palm upturned as reaches towards you. your eyes widen despite wanting to flutter shut and you’re about to lean into his touch when he continues his motion right past you, clicking the elevator button and letting his hand linger, halfway bracketing you in. “gotta be quicker than that,” he says.
/++/
you let him choose where the two of you go for lunch, a small little cafe at the very edge of town, away from the business of the campus and the multitude of college students. you had never been there before, this small hidden gem in the vicinity of a crazy college town.
atsumu also chooses your booth, sliding into a secluded one in the corner of the cafe away from the few patrons on laptops or coffee dates. “so did i do a good job choosing our first date place?” he asks.
you’re amused, you won’t lie. and you know that you’re the one that brought up the date joke in the first place, but there’s something about the way that he says “first date” that makes it feel a bit too real. still, you play along, tapping your chin, chewing on your bottom lip, swerving your head from side to side. “really great, but i don’t know how you’re going to top it for our second one.”
he smirks. you’ve pulled a smirk from him. he leans forwards, arms crossed over one another on the table. “i’m not usually a second date typa guy,” he admits and there’s absolutely no way that your face isn’t bright fucking red. whatever feelings you were feeling yesterday are nothing compared to this moment. your stomach feels like it’s going to come up your throat and you have to make a quick decision as a whimper threatens to leave along with it.
ahem. you clear your throat, shaking your head as you do, covering your mouth, hoping that it covers part of the burning in your cheeks. he doesn’t give you any time to recover. “so maybe let’s not call this our first date so that i can actually take you out sometime,” he follows up. it’s not making your situation much better.
you reach your hand out, wrapping it around his forearm, not expecting it to feel so strong in your grasp, but you suppose that was your misjudgement. you tighten your grip, begging for the attention to be taken off your face and given to the contact you’ve just created. “we’ll see how good of company you are for lunch, first, yeah?”
he speaks after a second, nodding along, “that seems fair.”
and then it’s quiet, but neither of you seem to mind, not when you have these few moments to just sit there looking at each other, your nails gently scraping against his skin.
you break the silence first, “so, what do you do for fun?”
“oh, hm, well, i-,” he stammers, laughing, obviously not expecting that question. “i play volleyball a bit and i go to parties and i mean, yea, that’s basically how i spend my freetime.” maybe that was a bit easier of an answer than a different girl every night. he’s about to reciprocate the question when an older woman stops by the table.
“the usual, atsumu?” the waitress asks, a light, friendly touch placed on his shoulder.
the question takes you by surprise, repeats in your head as you rattle off your order as politely as you can while you put the pieces together. what are you thinking. what are you thinking. what are you thinking.
of course he’s been there before. he’s probably taken a handful of his one night stands here. the nights that you’ve spent struggling to fall asleep or at maki’s or in the library probably started right here with a conversation very similar to the one that you’re having now. you weren’t above having a one night stand. you weren’t judging him for having many of them. you weren’t even regretting this lunch because you’ve just been reminded of the fact that you’re not special in the eyes of miya atsumu.
you’re regretting the fuck-me eyes you’re flashing and the less than clean thoughts that you’re having because you’re not going to fuck your neighbor who is notorious for one night stands are you kidding.
suddenly the booth seems a bit too warm, shifting in your seat, taking your hands and putting them back on your side of the table. you still smile at him sweetly. you still shoot him a few flirty questions. you still ogle at him from your side of the table, but that’s as far as it’s going to go you decide.
/++/
he walks you back to your door which isn’t really saying much since he lives right next to it. you’re not sure if he’s going to try to talk to you again after he realizes that you’re not interested in taking this further than what it is right now. maybe he’s holding out hope or thinking that you’ll break in the next 24 hours or by the time he asks you out to dinner inevitably, because you’ve never been extraordinarily great at reading body language, but his is loud and clear. he wants to kiss you or move your hair out of your face or hug you or stroke your cheek or something.
his body is leaning forward, not actively, just positionally, but he leaves room for you to make the move and as much as you want to close the gap, fumble with his door handle until you can pull him inside, and finally be the one who can enjoy atsumu’s one night stand for once, you motion to your door. “i’ve gotta get ready to meet a few friends, but i’m sure i will see you around.”
you fish your key out of your bag, unlocking the door, ready to say one final goodbye before entering your own room, but he says, “wait!” you do so. “can i have your number?”
you chuckle, furrowing your eyebrows at the thought. “what do you need my phone number for? you live right next to me?” you prop the door open with your foot, grabbing onto the door frame instead.
“right and how well did that work for us seeing each other all semester?” he asks, “besides, what if i want to bother you when you’re not home?”
with your freehand that isn’t on the frame, you mimic your motion from before, resting the flat of your palm against atsumu’s sternum, patting a few times, “take a number.” and if luck and karma was on your side, the smirk and wink that you throw at him will have him just as stunned outside of his door as you were last night.
/++/
as soon as you’ve closed the door, you let out a breath you’re not even really sure you knew you were holding. what were you thinking? flirting with your neighbor that you know is having one night stand after one night stand? flirting with your neighbor that is super inconsiderate and doesn’t care about the people around him he’s affecting? flirting with your neighbor that is incredibly fucking hot and that you have incredible chemistry with? flirting with your neighbor that you could be fucking right now if you had just played your cards right instead of having to hear him fuck some other girl tonight? shit. what were you thinking?
you shake your head, sitting down at your desk and finally checking your phone.

you feel like you’ve been talking for ages, explaining everything, not sparing any little detail (except for the feelings, you definitely left the feelings out). the three men look at you in disbelief. oikawa takes a deep breath and then closes his mouth and then opens it once more, “okay, yn, when we said to confront your neighbor, we didn’t mean…” his voice trails off, but your brain fills in the blanks.
“i know,” you say through your teeth, “i obviously know in theory that i shouldn’t be flirting with my neighbor who is obviously trying to get with me.” all three of them stare back at you, waiting for a but, “...but, i don’t know, he’s just really attractive.”
“hardly an excuse,” maki responds from behind you on the couch.
“that’s because you don’t know what it’s like to have that effect on someone,” issei says, shrugging as if it were just fact. it causes you and oikawa to burst out in laughter, maki’s cheeks tinged with soft red as a result.
catching your breath, you sigh, “no, maki’s right, i know it’s not an excuse and i’m not going to do it,” you pause, blowing out air, “he’s just kinda cool to hang out with. the banter is fun and he’s nice to look at and i’m not sure i know how to hang out with him without excessively flirting with him.”
“i’m sure it’s not that hard, yn,” maki quips, voice evidently joking in a way that actually makes the situation weirdly easier. he is right. you did manage the rest of the day.
“don’t mind him,” issei rests a hand on your shoulder and you catch his attention just long enough to catch the smirk that comes with it, “maki’s just jealous he’s not your only crush now.”
“yea, yn, maybe i’m just jealous i’m not your only crush now,” maki repeats, arms folded.
“hey, i mean, it doesn’t matter, anyway,” you shake your head, “i don’t think he’s going to be trying to talk to me after he finds out that i’m not planning on having sex with him.” you stand up from the couch, placing your hand softly on maki’s shoulder, “you will soon be my only crush once again.”
“good. that’s how it should be.” maki gives a short nod.
“sure, behind me and hajime,” issei responds back and you’re already getting a bad feeling about the quizzical look on maki’s face. oikawa scoffs, a rebuttal already coming out of his mouth, but he’s interrupted.
“really? because yn actually said that i was her favorite,” maki says sweetly despite the destruction he’s about to bring to the room.
a volume of protests erupt from the other two men sitting in the room. “oh! look at the time! i’ve gotta head back!” you say, checking your nonexistent watch and backing up towards the door.
“fine! leave! traitor!” oikawa scowls. you blow the group a small kiss before slipping out of the room.
/++/
unfortunately for a lot of people, atsumu surprises you. unfortunate for maki, your second crush; your friend group for missing out on your typical presence; your own expectations; and you’re sure, atsumu, who just wanted to have sex with his cute neighbor.
he doesn’t just hang out with you once more and then decide to stop talking to you. he hangs out with you 6(7?) times in the next few days: lunch every day, a walk to the corner store, dinner, and a 45 minute talk in the hallway if you count that as hanging out. brought on either bumping into you or deliberately knocking on your door to coerce you into doing something with him.
by the third hangout, he meets your energy, flirting with you in tiny quantities, no more than he would flirt with a close friend. and it feels almost impossible, but you’re getting the suspicion that he actually wants to be friends with you. he has a million girls to choose from that he doesn’t have to try nearly as hard for, so why else would he continue to hang out with you like this?
he makes it so easy to want to be friends with him. after your initial infatuation wears off, he’s just atsumu, stupid, annoying, really attractive, super funny, ravishingly charming atsumu. and more than any of this, he makes it so easy because his room has been so quiet these past few days. you’ve gotten a good night’s sleep every single day since you started hanging out more regularly.
there’s a tiny part of you that wants to chalk that up to you and how much you’ve been hanging out, but during one of your lunches he tells you about how rough volleyball is and that, unfortunately, makes more sense than him meeting you caused him to not want to fuck other people.
“i literally don’t have time for anything,” he said, shoving food into his mouth, checking his watch. “it has been nonstop practices, prep, training, matches.” he shook his head.
“right, but you have time to hang out with me,” you pointed out.
he laughed, lips spread wide to show his perfect smile, “okay. i have time for one thing and that is you, i guess.” he paused, swallowing his food. you could’ve fill the silence with more teasing and bantering, but you just waited patiently for him to speak again, not because you were trying to impress him, but because you could see that he was about to say something and you didn’t want to miss it. “i love volleyball, of course i do, but i’m ready to slow down just a little bit.” he made a pinching motion with his fingers. “‘m really glad spring break is this week. ready to get back to some routine at least.”
that’s exactly where atsumu is right now, fitting in another practice when he’s supposed to be eating because he gets an entire week off just like everyone else but unlike everyone else, he has to physically prepare for that.
“god, the first lunch that we’ve had with just the two of us in-” he checks his phone, “5 days.” he shakes his head disapprovingly. “unacceptable.” you set your lunch down on the picnic table.
“i know, i know, i’m sorry,” you say, swinging your leg over the bench.
maki shrugs, “sorry isn’t good enough, i need you to make it up to me.”
“what do you want me to-,” you start, throwing your hands up in the air, ready, in the back of your mind, to give him the cookie in your bag that you really got for yourself.
“yn?” you hear from behind you. you don’t need to look to know who it is, that voice has permanently ingrained in your head this week.
“y’know what, this works. this counts,” maki says as atsumu approaches your table.
“maki, i swear to go-,” you start again and atsumu unintentionally interrupts you again, walking up close enough to your table. “hey!”
you notice that jacket from the first time you met and those shorts from the first time you met and those shoulders from the first time you met and that messy hair and crooked smile. you notice all of those, easily enough to recognize when you’ve seen it all before, but there is something there on his face that isn’t as easy to recognize, because you haven’t seen it before.
“are you just getting back from practice?” you ask.
atsumu runs his fingers through his already messed up hair, combing through the brassy locks before nodding his head, “yeah, i just got done. tomorrow’s the last one until we get back from break.”
“you told me this morning when we left at the same time, yes,” you tease, pointing for emphasis. he would normally play right back, poke fun or just laugh at your observation, but instead his eyes keep flicking over to maki.
“oh! sorry, i didn’t- yea, this is atsumu,” you nod towards atsumu, “he’s-.”
“you’re yn’s neighbor,” maki fills in all by himself, “the volleyball guy.”
“amongst other things,” atsumu adds on.
“you sure are,” maki smirks, “i’m maki.” he gives a small wave, and you know that he’s purposely omitting a title.
“maki’s just a friend,” you blurt, trying to slouch your shoulders and lean back to seem more casual, like the statement you just said wasn’t so pointed, like you couldn’t feel the tension. you swear to god you watch atsumu’s shoulders mirror yours.
“well, it’s nice to meet you,” atsumu replies. it’s not as dry as it could be, evidently shaking off whatever it was he was feeling a few moments ago, but the second that he turns to you and talks, it’s warm, “i’ll catch you later, okay?”
“yes! we still have stuff to go over before tomorrow!” you yell towards him even though he’s only taken 3 baby steps backwards.
“alright, alright, quit you’re yellin’,” he smiles, “you know where to find me.”
you watch him turn around and jog away, brisk and perfect form, and you’re not sure if you let out a lovey sigh or if it’s hanamaki mocking you or if you just thought it. anyway you slice it, there was a lovey sigh as he was jogging back.
“oh my god he absolutely wants to fuck you,” maki laughs, “and we are even for like the next 10 things you do, oh my god that was so worth it.”
you punch his shoulder, narrowing your eyes, “not. cool.”
“9 now. 9 things.”
/++/
true to his word, you knew exactly where to find him.
when he opens his door, you’re expecting him to look irritated or bothered or uninterested for having to do this, but he greets you with a half-smile and steps out into the hallway with you. “okay,” you step into your room. “i’ve color coded them and i’ve included a chart. you literally can’t fuck it up. whatever the color, you refer to the little chart and you check the time slot when you’ve watered them, got it?”
“yn, i’m not going to kill your plants,” atsumu deadpans. “you know where i live.”
you let your giggles escape you, “are you ever going to stop using that joke?”
he pauses for a second, and in that second you realize how close he’s standing to you, how softly he’s looking you in the eyes, “maybe when you stop laughing at it.”
you turn away from him quickly, trying your best to hide the warmth in your cheekbones. “okay. noted,” you only half joke. “just,” you walk over to the chart beside the window sill titled atsumu’s plant checklist (pls dont kill these guys) ♡ “follow the chart and you’re right, you will not kill them.”
“got it,” atsumu nods genuinely.
you point at him. “and in return,” you turn around and tap on the 10 digits in the bottom corner of the paper. “i am finally giving you my phone number.”
atsumu fakes a gasp, “for bothering you when you’re not home?”
“no! no. you will use this for emergency’s only. i am entrusting you with my dorm key,” you wave it in your hand above your head, “and if anything happens-,” you say, backing up, shaking your head.
“nothing’s going to happen,” atsumu steps forward with you as you back up, lunging forward and grabbing your wrist, “now what are you so afraid of?” he doesn’t let go of your wrist, not as he cocks his head to the side and lowers your hand, pushing his fingers into your fist to grab the loosely held key.
“okay then,” you say, quiet, really quiet because he’s pretty close and you don’t need to be screaming into his ear and your stomach is not letting you talk any louder, “i will see you in two weeks.”
he drops your wrist, slowly, not all at once, lets you feel his soft skin on yours until the very last second. “me, and all of your very alive plants, will see you in two weeks.”
unlike most everyone else on campus, you were leaving for two weeks instead of one, split equally between spring break free time and a university sanctioned event. this meant a really cool and fun two weeks away from classes and the mundane. it also meant two weeks away from maki and atsumu and your plants and your bed.
you grab your duffle bag that you had packed previously, slinging it over your shoulder. both you and atsumu leave your room. atsumu locks the door with your key, checking that the door is properly locked like you’ve never seen him do with his own. “two weeks,” he says, pointing at you as you walk down the hallway. you shake your head, “two weeks.”
bzzzz bzzzz. before you’re even out of the building you get a text.
> unknown / 7:20 pm > about your plants… > have a safe trip 😚
yeah, your trip wouldn’t be so bad.
/++/
> 12:34 pm > i’m back in 10, pls let’s get foooood
> tsumu / 12:35 pm > for sure. drop ur bags and we’re going > srsly 1 minute and im leaving without u
you did exactly that, opened your door for just a fraction of a second to throw your bag inside and then started banging on atsumu’s door, not stopping until he’s opened it, not even when he yells, “i’m coming, i’m coming, hold on.” when the door flings open, you’re met with maybe too many emotions, namely excitement and a realization of just how much you missed him. “god, so impatient,” is what’s coming out of his mouth before his eyes have settled on you, his face contorted into playful annoyance. the end of the sentence trails off and the playful annoyance is replaced with a smile and an expression similar to the one you’re wearing.
there is no hesitance, from either of you, as you extend your arms out and wrap them around him. his arms follow suite at the exact same speed as if both of you had the idea at the exact same time, mutually exclusive in this reaction to seeing each other for the first time in two weeks. his arms clasping around your waist tightly, strongly and you try to match the squeeze as much as you can and you’re wondering if he’s feeling as safe as you are right now.
you don’t even have it in your head to feel off about how closely the two of you are pressed together, not when you’re breathing in his scent, clean and a pinprick dab of soft cologne, not when you can feel his heartbeat against the side of your cheek. and definitely not when he squeezes you just a fraction tighter as he says, “missed ya.” there’s no way he didn’t feel your heart skip a beat.
truthfully, there wasn’t a single day during that 2 weeks that you didn’t text with atsumu. but, the same could be said about maki, so it’s not really that big of a deal, right? though, you suppose, maki wasn’t the first person that you texted the second you stepped foot back on campus. and maki wasn’t the one that you spent a solid minute hugging within the first minute you saw him. and maki wasn’t sitting in front of you eating lunch now, a lingering smile on his face that hasn’t quite left from that moment. and maki didn’t buy you lunch as a welcome back present.
but it’s still not that big of a deal.
“what is that supposed to mean?!” you laugh, leaning forward, eyebrows knit together and, you’re sure, an adorably confused look on your face.
“i meant what i said, i get it,” atsumu tries, putting his hands up in faux defeat.
“you get why this 50 year old man tried to give me a keycard to go back to his room with him?” you repeat, trying to make sure that you’re actually hearing him correctly.
“game recognize game,” he shrugs.
“you’re fucking ridiculous,” you shake your head, but you’re not even trying to hide the huge grin, laughing as you reach over to atsumu’s plate and pick a french fry off of it. there’s a pause, a beat, that just feels natural as it passes, but as soon as he’s said his next sentence, you know that moment was thoughtful, tactical, maybe even used to muster up some courage, if not just to weigh some pros and cons.
“i mean, god, i really was trying to fuck you the first time we hung out,” atsumu says, admits, lets escape into such a crowded space, but the statement is gone as quickly as it came, carried away by the volume of the public space that you’re in. you knew this. of course you knew this, but there was still something so taboo about him saying it to your face.
what’s his angle here? you don’t even know how to respond, so you tease him, “yea, well, maybe you shouldn’t have been so insufferable and i would’ve fucked you.” you shrug your shoulders, stealing another fry.
he laughs, then, but it tapers out at the end. was that not the answer that he wanted? what was the answer that he wanted? you look at him, really look, as much as you can without seeming weird, and his smile is still as bright and his shoulders aren’t any more slumped, but there’s something in his eyes, a tiny damper that you might even have mistaken for hurt.
you wait for something to change in your conversation, but he keeps throwing jokes your way, keeps asking you about your trip, telling you about his week of school without you. the rest of your conversation goes on like normal for the most part, if not just a touch less flirty on atsumu’s end.
/++/
by the time you make it back to your room, it’s dark outside. between swiping notes from people from various classes and getting dinner with maki and hanging out with oikawa and iwa and issei at their dorm, when you actually make it to your room it’s nearly 2 in the morning. you pat at your pockets, search your tote bag, shit.
his shitty ass handwriting catches your eye. if you are not yn do not take this key. holy shit he’s a dumb ass. still, you’re grateful that he thought this far ahead at least. what if someone stole it? or just went into your room? you shake your head, moving one door over, ready to both thank him and reprimand him.
you’re about to knock on his door and then you hear it, because it’s really been ingrained in your head since the beginning of the semester, this rhythm, this noise. and you know exactly what it is. you’re looking for it now. it’s faint, but you’re listening for it. and yet, you still end up inside your room, because no matter how confident you were that that is what you were hearing in the hallway, it would be louder in your room and louder meant it was actually happening.
it’s unmistakable, really, but you put your hand on the wall just to make sure.
it’s been weeks since you’ve dealt with this, weeks since you’ve had to hear this, weeks since you’ve met atsumu and got to know him and flirted with him and got lunch with him every day and let him text you and trusted him to plantsit for you.
you move away from the wall, stand up from your bed, and walk over to set your tote bag and notes down on your desk, needing to get rid of the things that are weighing you down because you feel heavy enough as it is right now.
but sitting on your desk instead is the chart that you left atsumu, completely filled out with random smiley faces and check marks and doodles on each day and there is a new color on the bottom with one poorly drawn added box and a large, similarly badly drawn, star inside of it. next to the chart is a small cactus with the coordinated color tab wrapped around its base and a note that reads
??? cactuses are easier to take care of. please get more so next time it’s easier to take care of them. - atsumu
p.s. you’re welcome for the new plant
p.p.s AND for keeping all of your plants alive.
p.p.p.s welcome back. i missed havin u around.
p.p.p.p.s. it’s 2 days until you’re back dont hold this against me. been too quiet without u around.
for the few minutes that you’re reading and rereading the note, the sound fades away. but now you’re wishing the note was never ending because it’s back and it’s loud and fuck. fucking miya atsumu.

Callum Turner x Reader - The match-maker (Pt. 2)
AN: Second part to a fic I published yesterday in which Callum Turner and Reader meet through Austin Butler, a friend they have in common. Requested.
If you have any requests, feel free to send them to me xx
TW: none. Kinda fluffy, no smut.
If you're interested in pt. 3, lmk. Ok, byeee
Arriving in New York was a surreal experience for Y/N and she was glad to be met by Austin and Kaia. The two of them looked like lovebirds and it would have made Y/N sick with sentimentality if it had been anyone else than them. She was longing for a healthy and stable relationship and was only glad her best friend had found the one.
Y/N knew she had one shot of making things right and that she was not allowed any mistake during the Gala. Not only for her career but also for her friend’s reputation if she failed him. Austin knew that Y/N was capable of great things and only had to trust herself. If anything, the Gala was her baptism by fire and a great way to give his friend the confidence she had lost in herself.
Plus, he knew that she was about to meet Callum and was beyond thrilled to see them together. He was certain it would be a match.
“Alright, I need to prepare myself for the big day tomorrow”, Y/N declared after having spent most of the day in the city with Austin and Kaia. Together, they had been to the Guggenheim, Central Park and the Brooklyn Museum. It had been an exhausting but satisfying day and Y/N was now more ready than ever to craft her portfolio.
She woke up the next day wishing she could have slept longer but since it was Met Gala day, lots of things were to be done before the evening would arrive. Thank God, Austin had thought everything through to make her the most comfortable possible and had secured a spot for her in the first rows of the red carpet. She could then afford to arrive later at the Metropolitan Museum.
She fixed her many cameras, making sure she had battery and film rolls tidied up nice and clean in her bag when Austin texted her.
Her phone showed her what the guy she had saved as Orange County Boy in her contacts had to say:
7:21 am - “Ready 4 tonite?”
Him too had woken up early to get ready.
7:21 am - “Readier than everrrr. What about you two?”
7:24 am - “You bet we r! Kaia and I r having a party afterwards. You should come”
By sending that, Austin prayed everything he could pray on that she would accept as Callum had already let him know that he would join in.
7:32 am - “Yeah, sounds good. If I’m not dead with exhaustion or fangirling by then”
7:34 am - “Haha, even half-dead, you better get there!”
Once she had everything she needed sorted out, Y/N exited her Airbnb on the 11th Street to get some breakfast. In a few hours time, she was going to see all the celebrities she had dreamt of seeing. There would be Anna Wintour of course but she was mostly daydreaming of taking pictures of Jessica Chastain, Blake Lively and Alicia Keys. The fact that she would be first row was a golden opportunity.
By 2 pm, Y/N headed to the Metropolitan Museum and found her spot. She was escorted by people who were talking and acting as though she was the new Annie Leibovitz. Was it her Givenchy dress that she had borrowed from Kaia or her self-assured walk that gave the impression that she was famous? She could not have said but it sure felt good.
And then, in what seemed like the blink of an eye (though that was a couple hours in fact), the first people grazed the carpet. People from Vogue at first, and then a handful of random models before the A-list made their way.
Y/N noticed Vanessa Hudgens that she had known very well a few years back but had grown distant since. Vanessa reached out for her and greeted her amicably as she recognised her in the cloud of photographers which made a huge impression amongst Y/N’s peers.
When Austin and Kaia entered the scene, Y/N was beyond excited and could not stop taking pictures of them. The night followed that way and soon enough, all of her cameras were full. The batteries could not take any more picture which coincided with the end of the night.
The photographers were asked to leave and Y/N thought of getting a drink somewhere with some other photographers she had met while waiting for Austin and Kaia’s party to begin.
“Girl, you were on fire tonight!”, a 30-ish year-old woman told her as the photographers started debriefing about the evening and voting for the best-dressed celebrity.
“Yeah, who are you even working for?”, another guy around 25 asked.
“Uh, well, no one in fact. I’m trying to make my way up”
“And you got into the Met Gala? Damn, that’s impressive”
Y/N had made her promise to herself never to mention her friendship with Austin as a safety net towards her friend and because she did not wish to be known as the “friend of”. So she decided not to reply.
It was fun to be surrounded by peers who had so many anecdotes to tell about working in the industry. Y/N surprised herself laughing along with them and she made up her mind that Blake Lively was the best-dressed when she noticed it was 11:18 pm which meant the party had started about 20 minutes ago at Loeb Boathouse, a restaurant in Central Park that Austin and Kaia had privatised.
Y/N called it quits on the photographers and walked her way to the restaurant. She instantly regretted choosing the Givenchy dress Kaia suggested for her. Straight from the Spring collection of 2018, it was a long black dress with a wide collar and a bow in the back. It was absolutely magnificent but not the most practical thing to be wearing, especially at night and in a gigantic park.
She arrived by 11:30 at the party, much to Austin’s relief that was wearing a tuxedo and a large grin on his face, far too happy to be hosting both a party and a surprise for his best friend. She greeted him and his girl for the second time of the evening and was shown to a table where food had just been served.
Coming back from the bar, Callum was trying to find an available seat when Austin reached out for him and indicated where he could sit. Right next to Y/N. He noticed a beautiful woman he thought he had seen somewhere before. He had to know more about her.
She was looking like a Celtic goddess, he thought with her hair descending and shimmering as the light crashed on it. With her classy black dress, he could only presume she was a celebrity too and he then tried to force his memory to remember a name, to no avail. The woman seated next to her was so splendid in fact that, though he was craving to talk to her, he felt himself blushing like a schoolboy. Being an actor and not knowing your pick-up line, you could not make it up!
Y/N made space for the man sitting next to her, recognising him in the blink of an eye to be Austin’s friend and colleague he had talked so much about. Though she never truly listened to Austin’s attempts to set the two up together, she was much obliged to admit that he might have been right to even try match-making.
Callum Turner was indeed a very elegant man besides being good-looking. His aquamarine eyes had something of a malicious air which made her imagine him to be a kind soul and considering he had become a good friend to Austin, he must have been this kind-hearted being. She felt immediately some comfort in his company, which she had not felt in ages while surrounded by men.
She did not feel intimidated by his 6’1 stature nor his assured walk as they were balanced by a gentle and wide smile on his face. She dared starting a conversation as she could catch a glimpse of him eyeing her.
“Hi, I’m Y/N. You must be Callum, right?”
“Hi, that’s right! So nice to meet you. You were in a film, weren’t you?”
Y/N chuckled at the idea of being an actress and even more so of giving the impression of being one. “Oh no, I would be a terrible actress. I’m a photographer and also a childhood friend to Austin”
Callum laughed along at the confusion “Gosh, I’m sorry. It’s just the dress and you look, well, drop dead gorgeous” And the blush appeared back on his cheeks and was soon followed by the same tint on Y/N’s. After having said that, he realised who she was and why she was so familiar. Austin had talked about her earlier and had even shown some pictures of them at prom and other moments of their early adulthood.
She was even more of a beauty than what the photographs made it to be, he thought.
“You’re not bad-looking yourself”, Y/N commented after a few seconds.
From afar, Austin looked at the two introducing themselves, knowing the deal was closed.
“So, tell me, what drove you to photography?”, Callum inquired while not being able to take his eyes off Y/N.
“I guess I’ve always wanted to show another version of nature and people than what could be seen in magazines. Having someone pose for you or waiting for a certain light to come up in a forest does not interest me. I want to capture what makes a person different from another or why a certain setting is going to move you or not. Well, tonight was a little different than usual but it was fun somehow”
“You took pictures tonight? What photographs did you -”, Callum stopped mid-sentence, connecting the dots between the after-party he was a part of and Y/N’s activity and had to ask as Y/N seemed to nod at him “No way! You were on the red carpet?”
Y/N nodded once more, still not down from the experience she had gone through that evening.
“Wow, that’s amazing! Congrats on that! How was the whole thing?”
“Exhausting”, Y/N admitted, which Callum could only relate to. Himself was not the biggest fan of red carpets, nor after-parties. But at this instant, he did not regret attending Austin and Kaia’s get-together and laughed along with her. How long had it been since he had not laughed and had genuine fun with a woman?
“But I guess you’ve got plenty of things to say about red carpets for yourself”, Y/N hinted. She loved his London accent which was music to her ears and her laugh was the purest thing she had heard in a while.
“Tell me about it! I’m a real mess when it comes to those. There was this one time I nearly tripped on Judi Dench at the Bafta ceremony. I was running late which is something I’m really good at. So I’m running for my life to get on that carpet, right. Well, I saw the cameras and all but I did not see Dame Judi Dench and I just lowkey rushed into her as she was getting in the theatre”
“Stop, you mean you had a pile-up with M from the James Bond films? How did she even react?”
“She was the nicest about it. Mind you, I was 24. It was one of my very first award shows. I think she just noticed just how silly I had been to even try running on a carpet. I was unable to stop apologising to her but she was an angel”
After having discussed for over 30 minutes, interrupted here and there by the dishes served, the guests were taken to another room without tables and with enough space to dance the night away.
A playlist made of Taylor Swift, Marina and KC and the Sunshine band started blasting in the room, soon enough filling it with dancing actors and singers. Callum suggested Y/N and he could enjoy the tunes too. He took her hand and the two of them got to dancing.
With the light emanating from the stroboscopes, Y/N was a shooting star. Her black dress twirled so nicely as she moved her body to the rhythm given. Callum could not stop looking at her while dancing along.
Callum had this look of having done that all his life. He moved so lightly on the floor, with a composed pace and glistening eyes.
“You look amazing when you dance”, Y/N whispered in Callum’s ear as the song ended, morphing into a new song.
“And you look amazing overall”, Callum replied. “You’re so beautiful I think I could kiss you right now”
Of course, it was mostly the alcohol speaking as Callum said that and he instantly regretted having said that outloud. As he was wishing she had not heard what he had just said, he felt a warmth on his lips. The warmth was a soft kiss placed with all the tenderness in the world.
After the shared kiss, the two of them went back to their dancing but this time, they got closer. Y/N’s sensual moves rushed Callum to grasp her waist and joining in, echoing her moves with his hands on her wiggling body. With the soft fabric of her dress under his hands, Callum felt like kissing her once more and in her ears said “I really want to kiss you right now, would that be okay?”
“Callum, we’ve just made out in front of everyone. Of course, I’m okay with that”
More kisses added up to the list and the song ended once more. “Let’s go somewhere more quiet”, Y/N suggested and the two of them got back to the first room where they had met.
In that room, Callum was all hands on Y/N, not being able to resist the tension anymore. “Would you like to see the pictures I took back to my place?”, Y/N questioned, feeling like the end of the night could well go somewhere unplanned but nice.

My neighbour Rúben | Chapter 4
Author's note: On this chapter there are some things that give away that this story was written a long time ago, like the fact that it says that he is City's captain... Or that he dresses well 😅 P.S. I'm joking, please no one get mad at me 😭

"Did you sleep well, darling? You look tired" grandma asked me the morning after the game.
"It probably was all the excitement from yesterday. She was still buzzing like young people say" grandad laughed.
"I think it was a mix of not being on my own bed and getting out of my comfort zone. I'm not used to it."
Which was a lie. Mostly. I did miss my own bed, the one at my grandparents' house had the worst pillow ever. But if I looked dead and tired, it was because I had stayed up until 2 am reading about Rúben, watching his videos and looking at his photos.
Some would call it stalking. I call it doing research.
I read about his career, watched proper interviews and other videos where he was being silly, finding myself smiling like the idiot I am. I even watched some in Portuguese, the fact that I speak Spanish being very helpful to understand what he was saying. Or at least half of it.
I spent an hour just on his Instagram account, looking at everything he had posted, and especially the posts where he was topless. Like... He couldn't be real. He couldn't have a body like that, it had to be Photoshop. And it wasn't just the abs and the biceps. It also was his back. His legs. Everything. And judging by the photos where he was wearing clothes and the couple of times I had met him, he also knew how to dress and make the most out of that perfect body of his, which was unfair for the rest of the human population, both male and female.
I also spent a lot of time reading fanfic about him. There are so many talented people out there! And horny, which made me feel less alone. Because my dreams... Well. They were similar to the ones I had been having since meeting him for the first time, but now I knew what was under his clothes, and they weren't happening just on the lift or Lucy's house. Now that I knew that he was a freaking professional football player, there were so many new scenarios to explore... And I explored a few last night, like the changing room at the Emirates.
"Darling, are you sure you are alright? Should I take you to the doctor?" grandad said, bringing me back to reality.
"To the doctor? Why?"
"You look... I don't know. Off. And look at your cheeks."
"My cheeks?" I said, touching them. They were feeling very warm.
"Let me take your temperature" grandma said. "I don't want you traveling alone back to Manchester with a fever."
Oh, if only she knew.
I wasn't traveling back to Manchester with a fever. I was actually traveling back to Manchester to meet the cause of my fever. And just the thought of it was making my stomach do funny things, not sure if good or bad ones.
━━━━━━❃━━━━━━
"Oh, c'mon!" I said when the shopping bag slipped from my hand as I reached to call for the lift, all its contents slipping on the floor.
"Let me help you with that" a male voice said behind me. No. Not just a male voice. The male voice. Rúben.
"You don't need to, I can manage."
"And I want to help" he said, already picking some things from the floor. "Doesn't Lucy have someone to do the shopping for her?"
"Yes, but that's the weekly shopping. This is different."
"I can tell. I don't see Lucy letting Julia eat so much chocolate and sweets" he chuckled.
"Tonight we are having a movie night, that's why I bought all this. I'm not planning on feeding her just sugar for the whole weekend, I'm not crazy."
"Good to know" Rúben smiled. "What movie are you watching?" he asked while calling for the lift, the shopping bag on his hand.
"Not sure yet. Something from Disney I guess."
"What's your favourite Disney movie?"
"What?"
"Mine is "Aladdin". Love the songs" he said, walking into the lift once the doors had opened.
"I'm not sure about mine" I said, following him. "As a child I loved watching the "Swan Princess", but that isn't Disney."
"I think I've never heard of it before. Is it cartoons?"
"Yep. It is about a princess who is under a spell that turns her into a swan during the day, and at night she goes back into her human self but only if she is on a certain lake and when the moon is shining."
"Do they sing?"
"Oh, yes, they do. They have great songs."
"I'll have to check it out."
"What?" I laughed.
"Don't tell anyone, but I love watching kids' movies."
"Worried your teammates may bully you?" I chuckled as the lift's doors opened at our floor.
"Nah, they already know. By the way, the Emirates was the last place where I expected to see you" Rúben said, walking towards my door.
"Same."
"Lucy hadn't told you?"
"We've never talked about you." Which is true. But mainly because I knew my face would give away that I am very attracted to Rúben. Like, a lot.
"Now that you know... What do you think about it?"
"I don't know" I said, opening the apartment’s door. "It's just a job. A special one, but a job."
"Your opinion about me hasn't changed then?" he asked, following me inside and into the kitchen.
"Why would I change my mind?"
"You know what they say about football players. Just a bunch of idiots that kick a ball, who earn way too much money, who just party and cheat on their wives... Those things."
"I don't know enough about you to judge."
"Then we must do something about that" he said, leaving the shopping bag on the table. "Do you think Julia would mind if I joined you on your movie night?"
"I'm sorry, you want what?"
"It'll be a way to get to know each other a bit better. And I don't have plans tonight, so watching a Disney movie in good company sounds great."
I don't know what happened after that, what I said or did. Probably that yes, that he could come, because I remembered his smile and a "see you tonight." But my brain was stuck on his previous two last sentences.
For some reason, he wanted to get to know me better. Me. And I apparently was good company? He could have said it just about Julia, he clearly adored her. But he wasn't talking about her. We weren't talking about her. So... It was about me, right? I was good company. Did that mean that he was flirting with me? Rúben Dias, Manchester City captain and international player with Portugal, was flirting with me? The piano teacher turned into nanny?
It had been years since a guy had tried to flirt with me, I was very rusty. So maybe he was just being nice and I understood everything wrong. Or maybe not.
Whatever it was, I would be finding out in just a few hours...

Idk if you’ve already done this (newer follower and still catching up) but would you ever do a post on how you plan a post? Like what your planning process looks like with shots, poses, etc? You’re one of my favorite storytellers and I hope to get on your level one day but no idea what goes into a true story telling post
Ooooh hi hello, welcome! I don't believe I have ever gone into my process, no! but how interesting.. what better excuse! let's take yesterdays post as an example, shall we? 👀
First of all, we start with the premise/notes, which are very rough n' look like this in a word document...
Camping – the twins are fiiighting/being a pain, Oscar loses temper with em n almost says why can’t u be like ur brother?! throwing him into memories of Salton saying that to him all the time :[ he catches himself like no wait ur perfect I just gotta finish this, twins like wtf?? But robin ofc knows what’s going on with his pappy.. Oscar wanders off later n Robin sits with him, ur not like them u kno, what? Grandma n grandpa ur not the same, OUGH ;-;
2. I suppose this step changes depending on what I feel like, sometimes I'll make the poses/take the screenies first, then write the dialogue, other times I'll write the dialogue first.. I try for the latter since I can make more accurate poses, but time is usually my enemy here cos dialogue needs a nice quiet period to write lmao (let's call this step dialogue for now though)
3. Rip sims for blender, make poses, then head in game to dress everyone, set dress and take screenies, I take a LOT and choose the best ones but here're some unedited examples for you... In this case cos there was a flashback, I also had to remake Oscar/fam as a child n' whatnot, but luckily I have their old house saved so I plonked them all in an alternative save to take those.

4. Now we have our dialogue/screenies, it's time to throw it all together in photoshop, I usually edit the screenie first to fix any clipping etc, fix the lighting, sharpen it up a bit maybe.. but that's about it! Then I press my handy lil (custom made) storyboard action and end up with smth like this, to which I add the text! (this step takes the longest prolly.. cos it takes me forever to pick the screenies I wanna use my GOD 🙈)
Tumblr media
VOILA! Once I've chosen all the screenies in the right order I go thru each of em in PS one by one to edit/add captions, then we're done! \o/
I realise this probably seems quite quick/vague or even streamlined if u wanna toot my horn lmaooo but I've spent a while doing this by now so ig I've kinda figured out the quickest way of doing it - still tho, I'd imagine the above still taking between 4-5 hours from start to finish! I usually spread these things over days/weeks in advance tho like.. during the week I mostly make poses/take screenies and write, then at the weekend I'll usually edit a bunch n' throw it all together, so it doesn't rlly feel tedious since I'm switching it up all the time/doing what I fancy.

Synopsis: Being your teachers’ favourite always has its benefit, especially when they were fighting for your attention.
Tumblr media
That evening, you spent the night at Ecthelion’s estate resting and rolling around in the sheets some more. You ended your night by receiving a full body massage from your lovely teacher who apologized for being too rough with you all night. Unfortunately, the next day you couldn’t walk or move out of bed, thus you couldn’t run any errands required for your Lords. You spent the entire day in bed with Ecthelion visiting you, claiming he was concerned about his favourite student.
In truth, he wanted to keep you away from Glorfindel who was constantly asking about you, since you had a special training session with him that day. Deep down, Glorfindel had his suspicions that Ecthelion had overdone it, preventing you from coming out. Wanting to ensure that you were in mint condition, he even went out of his way to visit your house only to learn from your parents that you didn’t return home last night. Grinding his teeth through the realization, he cursed under his breath when he concluded that Ecthelion had his hands on you. Explained his frequent visitations to his own house multiple times in one hour.
“Ecthelion, you smug bastard,” shaking his head utterly disappointed by his friend taking his favourite student from him, he was quick to strike up a plan to have you to himself. However, it needed to be strategic and smart.
Now, you stood before Lord Glorfindel’s estate after your slacking yesterday. During the entire time you spent locked up at your raven-haired teacher's house, you were deciding on how to profess your interest in your teachers even when they fancied you. Surely coming out to them would make things dangerous, but not coming out would make everything worst. The competition between them would escalate into a possessive game—as if your teachers weren’t already fighting for your attention.
Rubbing your hands up and down your left arm, you nervously fidgeted with the fabric. It was so unusual in comparison to what you usually wore. Garmented in a long gold and cream dress, curtesy your Lord Glorfindel, he insisted, demanded, that you had dinner with him tonight. At first, when the invitation arrived at your front door, you were confused because you had a training session with him, but when you opened the box and saw the dress, you instantly knew what was up.
“My Lady, right this way,” the guard at the front door approached you and informed you that Lord Glorfindel was already awaiting your arrival.
Walking through the corridors of his house, you were fretting about how you were about to profess how you felt towards him and the entire situation between you. You loved the idea of being his teacher’s pet, but what happens when you want to be more than his pet? What happens when your feelings develop to be more than infatuation and turn into love? How would Ecthelion handle the situation? Wouldn’t he have some grudge towards his friend?
So lost in your head, you were unaware that the guard was calling out to you, stating that you had arrived. All you needed to do was knock.
“Lord Glorfindel informed me that when you arrived, you needed to knock thrice before gaining entrance,” and with that, the guard took a bow and left you standing in the corridor all alone with your thoughts.
Looking back at the entrance you took; you were wondering if making a run for it was the best idea or manning up and admitting your feelings. What’s the worst that could happen should you profess your feelings? Unfortunately, more than what you bargained for did happen.
Sandwiched between your two teachers on either side of you on the sofa, your dress was hiked up to your waist and your soaked underwear was open for the world to see. Hands were eagerly, yet teasingly running up and down your skin, cupping your breast and giving gentle squeezes or turning your head for a heated kiss. With every passing touch, a fresh flow of your arousal trickled into your underwear.
This was the furthest thing from your mind when you walked into the room and the least likelihood of expecting it. Both your teachers dressed in the finest wear, Ecthelion adorned in all silver and Glorfindel decorated in gold, were sipping on wine and laughing at some joke from today’s events. You had stood frozen in the doorway until Glorfindel beckoned you over without looking away. Everything that happened after ran through your mind hazily, leading you to this position.
Ecthelion was the first to trail his hand south to your underwear, running his middle finger up and down your cloth-covered slit. Listening to how your breath hitched from the contact, he stopped his finger right over your slit to push into you. Gasping at the intrusion, you shut your eyes and tossed your head back onto the sofa. To your right, Glorfindel lifted his right hand to cup your jaw and turn your head to meet his lustful gaze.
“You’re doing well kitten. This was a session long overdue,” glossy eyes staring into his, you bit your lips to hold back a whine as Ecthelion pushed the flimsy material to the side and ran his middle finger through your folds.
“Just as I suspected doll, wet as always,” he loved how easily you were aroused from a few whispers and touches from earlier. Marvelling at the mess between your legs, he licked his lips in anticipation of the next step.
While you were busy locking lips with Glorfindel and spilling more juices on the sofa, he moved both hands to the waistband and tore the thin material in half. Yanking it off your body and throwing it lazily across the room, you pulled away from Glorfindel to whine at your teacher’s roughness.
“That was my favourite.”
“It’s alright doll, I’ll get as many more as you wish for,” he gave a proud chuckle, excited to shower you with his wealth after agreeing to the mastermind plan Glorfindel devised.
Watching as you furrowed your brows contemplatively, he removed himself from the sofa to walk over to the table and poured himself two glasses of wine. Glorfindel’s impatient hands tugged your face to his so he could capture your lips in a passionate dance. Tasting the sweet, ripe grapes on his tongue, you couldn’t help but moan into the kiss. Savoury and sweet. You could taste his mix through the kiss, mint and cherry.
One of his hands during the kiss trailed to cup your dress, pinching your nipples through the material. At one point, he grew frustrated with not being able to feel your skin and tore the dress at the shoulders allowing it to pool around your waist. Freeing your breast from the obtrusive material, he dipped his head to latch his lips to your nub. You raised your hands to rake it through his scalp causing him to groan into your bud, sending the vibrations through your body.
At the same time, you felt more of your arousal running down your heat. Taking one hand out of his hair, you reached below to touch yourself, feeling just how soaked you were. Moaning lightly at the contact, you continued to rub your clit slowly, not wanting to overstimulate things immediately. Shutting your eyes in bliss, you leaned your head against the backrest with your lips parted, releasing sighs of ecstasy.
Still standing at the table, Ecthelion eyes zoned in on your heat as he watched your fingers dance lazily around your clit. Licking his lips, he could feel his cock stirring in his trousers as he continued to watch. Grinning as an idea struck him, he picked up the two glasses of wine and walked over to you two. Clearing his throat, he gained Glorfindel’s attention as his hand was outstretched holding the wine.
“Thank you, my friend, though I see the need for this unnecessary in a moment like this,” cocking his head to the side in confusion, Glorfindel was quick to speak his mind since he was cut short of his actions.
“Look closely,” inching his head to where your fingers were busy rubbing away, they both watched as you lowered your hand to insert two fingers into your hole. Groaning at the sight, Glorfindel was quick to turn his head to study you. Eyes shut with parted lips, faint whimpers and gasps. The rapid heaving of your chest with every touch you took. The way you would faintly say their names. His own cock stirred in his pants at the broken cry of his name.
“What do you propose then? We watch or join?” sipping his wine while you were still unaware of the exchange, he locked eyes with Ecthelion, awaiting his response.
Returning to his position next to you, Ecthelion brought the wine glass to his lips and hummed as thoughts ran through his head. Smiling at everyone that he came up with, it was difficult for him to choose. He didn’t see the need to punish you since you were so good to him all yesterday and the day before that, so some reward should be given for the good girl you were.
“Help her out, our princess deserves it.”
Smirking over the rim of his glass, Glorfindel’s eyes dropped to where you were busy pumping your fingers in and out your hole. The squelching sounds that escaped with every thrust of your fingers were disgustingly pleasing. It was a sound the both of them were familiar with and turned them on even greater. Keeping his glass in hand, Glorfindel’s fingers easily pulled your dainty fingers out of your hole and immediately replaced them with his. Opening your eyes confused by the change in position, you watched your golden hair teacher focusing his gaze on the motion of his fingers pumping in and out your dripping entrance. The only noise that was heard through the room was the obscene squelching from your hole and your incessant panting.
“Ughh, oh god, more please,” loving the way you so easily begged for more, Glorfindel smirked and added a third finger, stretching you out deliciously. The tightening of your walls around his fingers was making his head spin.
Ecthelion easily joined his friend’s fingers on your heat by rubbing your nub. Calloused fingers that over-sensitized your clit, you jerked as his fingers came in contact. The sensation felt foreign as opposed to Glorfindel’s calloused fingers. Rough his fingers were, but his touch was soft, there were no haste or vigorous intentions behind them. All he wanted was to help his favourite little pet find her release.
“Does that feel good?” he leaned into your ear to whisper lowly, voice dropping a few octaves. There were just as deep as his fountains and dark. It felt like you were eating dark and rich, milky chocolate.
“Y-Yes sir,” you clenched around Glorfindel’s fingers at the use of your pet name and the feeling of Ecthelion’s lips attaching themselves to your neck. Sucking and biting, adding more bright purple bruises to your skin as if the previous ones still weren’t there. If anyone were to see your neck, they would believe that you fought with some wild animal and lost.
The feeling of two different hands on your heat was sending your mind into a frenzy, you couldn’t focus. The whispers of your name fall from their lips into your ear. The soft, yet rough movement of their fingers pumping into you, as Ecthelion forced one of Glorfindel’s fingers out to replace it with his. Two different calloused fingers brush past your walls, slowly and deliriously pumping, making more juices gush. Your head was spinning with the rush of ecstasy.
Glorfindel was the first to feel your walls beginning to spasm around his fingers signalling that you were approaching your high. Ecthelion had yet to feel your walls spasming since only one was pumping in your heat as opposed to Glorfindel's two, thick and longer fingers.
“You’re close kitten. I can see you squeezing me,” a dark chuckle vibrated in Glorfindel’s chest at the proud feeling of having you cum early.
“Is that so? You’re already going to cum for us,” at the notion of this, both your teachers on natural instinct, sped up their movements. Digging their fingers into your heat and doing their best to stretch you out to later accommodate them, your back bowed off the sofa and your nails dug deeply into the cushions. Fighting the urge to close your legs around their hands, you were suddenly met with opposition as their hands pried your legs open.
“Keep them open kitten, we want to see,” bending his head down to plant a chase kiss on your thigh, you jumped at the contact of his cold lips to your warm skin.
It wasn’t long before you felt your walls contracting around their fingers, spasming and putting a choke hold on them. Feeling the heat in your stomach building and building until it reached the highest peak, your eyes rolled back when the heat suddenly exploded. Curling in on yourself and fighting to wiggle out of their grasp as you shivered violently, you soon melted into the cushions. Small traces of drool were running down the sides of your mouth as you lay there, lost. You were somewhere floating in heaven from the euphoric orgasm you received from your teachers. The best part was that you knew there was more. What you didn’t know what that their fingers were still buried inside your hole.
“Do you think she’s ready for us?” Ecthelion was observing your fucked out state as you still lay, flopped out on the sofa. Rubbing a hand up and down your arm soothingly, he dragged you up and pulled you to lean into his embrace.
“No, not yet, could do with another. She’s not stretched out enough.” Not stretched out enough, whatever do they mean?
Feeling your body going tense under them as their fingers regained their movements again, this time to draw a second orgasm from you, Ecthelion lips kissed your ear, “Relax doll, you need to be able to take us both.”
Sensing your distress, Glorfindel slowed his fingers and gazed up at you with tenderness in his eyes, “Relax sweet one. We are prepping you so it shall not hurt.”
“I–I’m taking you both at the same time?” your eyes were wide as saucers, and yet, they held wonder at the thought of being sandwiched between both teachers while they drove their cocks into you.
“Why yes, consider this a reward for being such a good little girl for us. And if this won’t be the last time you have us,” letting his words settle in your head, you were trying to make sense of his last statement. Did he mean that you were still going to be seeing them both even though you were about to make a choice? Turning your head around to face him, ignoring the feeling of Glorfindel’s lips now attached to your clit and sucking it like a pacifier, you held a questioning look to him. Smiling lovingly at you, he nodded his head to solidify Glorfindel’s words. Running his fingers across your face before cupping your cheeks, he pulled you closer to his face and collided his lips with yours.
Sighing into the kiss, your body relaxed and sank into his embrace. This urged both of them to abuse the moment and pump their fingers into your hole faster. With Glorfindel’s lips sucking away on your clit, your body was slowly shaking. Another orgasm was quickly approaching.
“Close again, I’ve barely gotten a taste.”
His tongue flattens itself on your clit, flicking it before taking it into his mouth and humming. Shaking his head as he sucked sweetly on your little nub, your jaw went slack, and your eyes cross. Arching your back, Ecthelion’s arms had to restrain you from flying off the sofa. Fighting the urge to push Glorfindel away but also pull him closer, your legs were fighting to close around his head. This time, they allowed your legs to tighten around their hands and his head. Loving the feeling of being suffocating by your muscular thighs felt like heaven to Glorfindel. He did a great job getting you as fit as you were currently.
With a roll of his tongue and the crook of their fingers towards your soft spot, you released a silent scream as you squirted your release onto Glorfindel's face and their hands. Flopping dead into Ecthelion's arms, they both smiled at your orgasmic state. Removing himself from between your legs, Glorfindel made quick work of his clothes, tossing them onto the sofa. His face was still coated in your release, but he couldn’t be bothered. Occasionally, he’ll swipe his tongue to collect what little arousal that were left on his face. Ecthelion was next to remove himself from behind you and removed his attire with a lot more grace than Glorfindel. Neatly folding it and resting it on the sofa, Glorfindel couldn’t help but joke.
“It doesn’t matter what you’re doing, you’re forever neat,” his comment earned him a laugh from his stoic friend.
Turning away from laughing, their gaze fell on their lovely student who still appeared to be in a daze, a heavy daze. Walking to the sofa, Glorfindel gently shook your body to snap you into the present. Watching as you blinked a couple times before roaming the artwork of a teacher, he smirked as you gasped at his physique. Tugging you to stand up, his hands made quick work of removing your dress with ease, tearing it to shreds. This was the first time he was your naked body and could not help but roam his hands, delicately touching every exposed skin. The same would be said for you, but instead, you were only able to roam your eyes across his skin. Golden with a lovely tan and lightly dusted freckles covered his chest.
“You’re beautiful my dear,” gasping at the use of his new pet name, your eyes softened. He found you beautiful despite the scars that covered your body from fighting. Normally, any other elf would be disgusted and curl away, shouting about how your skin should be clean, but not your Lords. They loved your skin despite its marks.
“They’re like intricate patterns,” the next praise came from Ecthelion who was standing by and watching the scene. Now, he was walking over to where you both stood.
Hands and lips were running up and down your body, and kisses were being planned everywhere you had scars. At the gesture, you felt water rimming your lower lashes, you couldn’t believe prestige Lords like them, would love your damaged skin. Lifting your to wipe your tears before they ran down your face, you knew if they saw you crying, they would stop everything to comfort you and you didn’t want that. Not with the way you were dripping.
“Come on darling, I need you to jump,” hands on your waist and on your legs, you were easily lifted into the arms of Glorfindel who hooked your legs in the crook of his elbows. A familiar position you’ve found yourself in a few times. Quickly throwing your arms around his neck, you felt two other arms hooking under your knees to spread you open wider.
Breathing heavily, you were excited at the realization of taking both of them at the same time. Lowering you slightly so you were at the right height for them both to have better access to your heat, you felt both their cocks rubbing against your skin. Ecthelion’s was rubbing against your ass, while Glorfindel’s rubbed against your front. Licking your lips before taking your bottom lips between your teeth to bite, you bit hard enough to draw blood as Glorfindel’s tip tickled your entrance. It was Ecthelion who griped his best friend’s cock, giving it a few pumps, smearing his precum across his cock before lining it up with your heat. Rubbing the tip against your clit, and dragging it through your folds, he teased you with Glorfindel’s cock. However, the blonde was also getting impatient.
“Quite teasing Thel. Put it in,” listening to his command, Ecthelion huffed and grumbled under his breath before moving his hand to line Glorfindel’s cock with your entrance.
Holding your breaths, all three of you stilled as you felt Glorfindel’s cock sliding past your walls. Tossing your heads back and groaning at the feeling, your nails were digging into Glorfindel’s back from the stretch. In no way were you stretched out enough for his size. He was thick, but his length was the most impressive. Filling you all the way up and touching your cervix, if he moved, he might break you.
“Shit, God, how are you still this tight? Didn’t I open you up?” he felt as though he was being suffocated and all the air was knocked out of his chest. Your walls were constantly spasming around his cock and he could have sworn you were about to cum right there, you felt like you were about to.
“Thel, I don’t think you’ll fit. You’re welcome to try unless you want me to go first?”
Frowning at his comment, Ecthelion shook his head, denying the chance to go through with this. If you had to suffocate his cock before adjusting, then so be it. “Hold her still.”
Standing directly behind, you felt the heat radiating off his body and couldn’t help but lean into him. Seeing you do so, he was quick to lift his hand to rub your skin soothingly before dragging it down to where you and Glorfindel were connected. Lifting you slightly, you felt his fingers dancing along the rim of your opening before wiggling their way in, testing the waters and collecting some of your arousals. Hissing at the insertion, you choked on a sob.
When he was ready, with ease, Ecthelion’s tip brushed against your opening before sliding itself along Glorfindel’s cock and into your hole. Before you could realize what was taking place, all your words were caught in your throat as incomprehensible phrases spilt from it. No sound that escaped you was considered normal, they all sounded broken and airy. Tightening their grip on your waist to prevent you from moving too much, Ecthelion took his time while hissing as his cock slid past Glorfindel’s, to properly slide into your heat and nestle himself deeply in your warm haven. The veins from your walls and Glorfindel’s were sending him into oversensitivity.
“Fuck, fuck, fuck—ngghh…” this was too much for you to handle. When they said they were going to take you at the same time, you thought front and back, not this. The stretch was deliciously painful and nothing short of what you could take, but fuck, they were stretching you out. You felt like you wouldn’t breathe to save your life if you were ordered. You might as well die right there.
“Well this is just lovely, doll, haven’t I fucked you enough to stretch you out?” Ecthelion himself was afraid to move, the same went for Glorfindel who was biting his lips to draw blood.
“M-Move please, move please.” You were already in this predicament, might as well go through with it.
Moving first and with ease, Glorfindel slipped out first to slide himself back in, at that moment Ecthelion slid himself out. The feeling of having their cock side against one another was making them weak in their knees. Everything was oversensitive for all three of you. Timing each other’s movement, it didn’t take long for the Lords to create their rhythm as they thrust in and out your heat. As one left, the other entered to fill that gap, so you were never empty, always filled. The feeling of two different cocks slipping and sliding along your walls was making your brain hazy. You couldn’t focus or think, everything in your mind was dead. No thoughts, head empty. Your jaw was slack, and your head tossed back with moans and mewls being ripped from your throat.
Bouncing you up and down their cocks, you felt the different veins brushing against your wet cavern. Fucking salacious and it made you drool. You were so lost and confused as they drove their cocks into you, you weren’t sure where to rest your hands or what to do with them. Alternating between gripping Glorfindel’s back and Ecthelion’s hair, you somehow managed to leave some marks on their skin. The way they fucked you made you delirious.
“Come on, give it all to us,” one hand rose from your legs to turn your head to lock lips with him. The kiss with Ecthelion was greedy and messy but still felt sweet. The remnants of the grape wine on his lips could still be tasted through the kiss.
“Don’t forget about me over here, my lips are lonely.” Scoffing midway through the kiss, Ecthelion pulled away to glare at Glorfindel, sending him a warning to wait his turn.
Smiling through the pleasure, you groaned as their cocks nudged against your soft spot. Stuttering in their hold, they both raised arms to hold you securely, giving you words of reassurance. Sweet words coming from two dangerous predators who hunted you until you relinquished hold and gave everything you had, over to them. Sweet were the words that still brought your comfort as they mellowed into your ears and made your core tighten causing their hips to flatter. Your juices coated their cocks leaving behind a ring of cream around the bases of both.
“Fuck, you’re so good Thel,” hearing you whisper his name into his mouth did something to his cock. Twitching at the use of his name, he couldn’t help but feel a bit of pride welling up inside.
Busy on the other side because he was left out, Glorfindel’s lips were attached to your skin sucking more hickeys across your shoulders and back. You shivered under his kisses. The hand that was lodged in his hair, yanked his head up as you broke the kiss between you and Ecthelion to kiss him. Grinning into the kiss because he longed for it, you felt the happiest surging in him through the kiss. It made you feel giddy and light. You felt as though there was a sun glowing from within. That, however, didn’t change your mind from the dangerous thrusts he was delivering to your heat. Your head was clear enough to distinguish the difference between their thrusts and from what you understood, his were gentler than Ecthelion's but did the job of knocking the air out your chest. Every thrust felt like a punch to your guts and there were being rearranged.
The slip and slide of their cocks past your walls, the difference in texture and weight, girth and length and you still had adjusted. With every expert roll of their hip and a brush against your soft spot, a moan spewed past your lips and a groan followed. As much as you were getting off on both their cocks buried deep in you, each of them was enjoying the rubbing of their cocks against the other. Every new ripple of sensation had you three delirious and you were sure who lost their minds first.
“Shit, I’m close. Come, darling, you have to cum for us,” dipping his fingers to meet your clit, Ecthelion gave you a light spank to your clit a few times and then proceeded to rub the little nub vigorously.
Moaning into the kiss, you all felt the contracting of your walls. Finding a grip on their skin was becoming harder as their swear-covered bodies had you slipping. Noticing this, they both stepped closer to permanently sandwiched you between their bodies, ensuring that you didn’t fall. It wasn’t long before you felt the rolling of the fire burning in your abdomen returning, they felt it too. Fuelling them to drive themselves into you with more vigour to achieve your orgasm as quickly as possible. Barrelling into your third orgasm for the night, they quickly approached their high and were eager to join you in finding their release. Adding more pressure into their thrust with their going groans and grunts, you sensed yourself trembling.
“Nggh, God,” an open mouth scream was released from your throat as your nails curled themselves into both their backs leaving claw marks. Surely they’ll both show them off sometime soon.
At the sensation of your nails digging into his back, Glorfindel was the first to cum, shooting his load into your walls and coating both his and Ecthelion’s cock. Feeling the pulsation from his friend’s cock which sent him into hypersensitivity, Ecthelion soon followed repeating the same pattern as Glorfindel. The deep grunting and growls that came from both of them vibrated through the room. Only panting and groaning were heard as all three of you were busy attempting to catch your breath. You had tears running down your face from the feeling of being overly stuffed and sensitive. Two cocks and their cum all buried deep inside you, and you couldn’t move.
“I don’t think I can do anymore, I’m d-done,” laughing in agreement with your words, both Ecthelion and Glorfindel nodded their heads before adding in their two cents.
“I think we should all lie down,” this came from Glorfindel who was eager to settle down and recuperate from the energy he spent, though, he wasn’t as tired as you and felt like he could have at another round. However, not everyone was on the same page.
“I believe a bath would be highly preferable.”
You couldn’t care which they chose because all you wanted to do was sleep. Your special training session was over, so you could rest for long hours. It didn’t take long for them to decide after taking one long at your fucked out state. Carefully sliding themselves out your heat, you whined as the feeling of their cum trickled out of your hole, but for them, they loved how your essence and their cum were slavered over their cocks and painted on your cunt. From the angle they stood, the glistening of their arousal could be seen decorating your lips like icing. Each lord on either end clutched to your wobbling frame as they lowered you on your feet.
“I must say, we’ll need to schedule more sessions like this in the future.”

I could feel better right now. My stomach hurts. I feel so dehydrated even though I keep sipping water. I just had kind of a rough day.
I didnt sleep amazing. I woke up a lot and had weird dreams. So when my alarm went off I told James I needed to sleep more and gave myself an extra hour. It helped a little but pretty quickly it would fade and I would feel bad again.
I tried really hard to be positive though. James left me breakfast so after I got dressed I warmed that up. And packed a little lunch. I had some juice but it didn't make me feel much better.
I drove to camp. And very quickly started to not feel well again. But it also makes me feel stupid. I don't want to have to keep asking to go home. I want to be able to work. But when there is nothing for me to do I just feel miserable.
There were positive things today though. It was my dad's birthday! He's 70! Incredible. And it's my parents' wedding anniversary! They got married on his birthday so that he wouldn't forget. And it's Friday the 13th. And the start of my 13th week of pregnancy! Which means baby is now a peach! Or a kiwi. Depends on the app you check.
I tried to let those things make myself feel better. But it was hard. I would had some things to do though which was something. I spent a few hours going through all the private schools in an hour radius and finding emails for history, science, and social studies teachers. This turned out to be a ton of work because not every school has a very good website design. It was hard to actually get emails. But I got a really good amount and I was happy about that.
I would also work on my alphabet drawing. I made files with every letter. So that's started at least. And I would send some emails and poke around online.
I had lunch around 11. I told everyone about our appointment yesterday and seeing baby flip around and stretch. It was nice to talk about it.
I wasn't feeling great though. And went up to arts and crafts to take some materials to put away. And spent a good amount of time laying in the hammock. I just wasn't feeling good. But I wanted to stay until at least 2. I laid in the hammock for a half hour. Just trying to feel better.
Eventually I went back to the office. And Heather had two tasks for me. Finally. And I would spend time researching private schools in York that we can email. And updating the email blast with the more accurate Native American Field trip stuff. But then I had stabbing pains in my boobies and was just like. Okay I'm done. And said goodbye.
I stopped at 711 and got a snack. And only got stuck in some traffic for a little bit. And was home right after 330.
When I got back here I was excited that my package had come. I purchased a baby carry wrap. Which not shocking is way to large on my torso but is perfect for James. I didn't realize that its flame pattern in one side and crane patterned on the other. Really cool.
I laid in bed for a long time. I didn't really leave bed for the whole evening. I would lay down and wait for James to come home. And when they did they had a gift for me too!
They got me the special Japanese Calico Critter seals!! I was so excited. They are so soft and I'm excited to add them to the doll house.
James would try on the carrier. And we found a tutorial video on how to wrap it but our guess ended up being correct. James would practice with a weighted plushie. I thought it was so sweet.
James made us dinner. I had a quesadilla and a hashbrown and a scrambled egg. Which was probably to much food because I feel all swollen now. But thankfully I didn't feel nauseous. Just swollen and not great. I'm glad that eating is easier. Everything doesn't go to a pinpoint and I think I'm going to black out. I am thankful for that.
I took a shower and washed my hair and gave mostly just been laying down. James has been hanging out with me. Sweetp too. He wants to lay on my stomach so much and we have to keep blocking him from doing so and he doesn't understand. My poor baby.
I am really hoping I can sleep easy and feel better tomorrow. We have the market all morning and then we are having dinner with Jules, that girl I met a few months back. I am hoping to just sleep all afternoon and be in a good mood for that.
I hope you all had a good day. Wish my dad a happy and healthy birthday. I love you all. Goodnight!!

Day 2: Masquerade
A/N: This is very much in keeping with yesterday's ficlet, except this time it's a variation of Cinderella, centring Haru and Baron, neither of whom are the fairytale's protagonists, but are determined to make the best of it anyway. Enjoy!
x
When Haru Yoshioka had received the invite to the prince's ball (open to all eligible ladies in the kingdom) she had – if only for a brief moment of indulgence – imagined being swept off her feet by the young royal and into a fairytale romance.
This, of course, hadn't happened.
What had actually taken place was a demure dance with the prince (after waiting an hour in line because – naturally – she wasn't going to attend this ball and not dance with royalty) and then two hours of mingling and dancing with the other attendees.
And the prince had been nice. Polite, in a kind of customer service way. He'd said all the socially-expected comments (how are you finding the ball, how pretty your dress is, what an exquisite mask) and hadn't even winced when Haru had stepped on his foot. It wasn't, she had to admit, the stuff of which fairytales were made.
It was, however, a decent excuse for a good night out and plenty of gawking at the palace's interior. And so she'd browsed through the buffet and chattered with her fellow guests, and was quite content to continue browsing and chattering for a good few hours more, when she spotted him.
It was his stillness which caught her attention first – in a ballroom of swaggering and dancing and general revelry, his quietude was as out of place as a crow among peacocks. And once she had noted him, it became impossible to not, her gaze flickering back to him between dances.
It might have been his stillness which caught her eye, but it was the intricacies of his mask which really cinched it. It was a two-layered creation, with a slim, starlight-blue mask around the eyes, and a larger one fitted about the head to mimic a ginger cat's. It was obviously crafted by some magician, and startlingly lifelike.
It was a mask made to garner attention, and yet its owner favoured the ballroom's edge, shunning the limelight in preference of shadows.
Eventually, Haru took matters – and a buffet plate – into her own hands, and approached.
"You do know you're allowed to eat on duty, right?"
The man started, tearing his attention from the prince and his favoured dance partner. "Pardon?"
Haru raised the plate, piled high with an assortment. "Food," she reiterated. "You haven't moved from this spot for at least the last hour. I don't know what a cat such as yourself might favour," she said with a teasing smile, "so I brought a selection."
The man blinked, and Haru had to stop herself from asking if the mask's eye holes were bespelled too, for even his eyes had an uncanny feline shape to them. "For me?" he asked.
"I figured you might be hungry," Haru replied. From this proximity, she could see that his morning suit was at least a generation out of fashion – his father's, maybe? – albeit carefully cared for, despite the age. It was in stark odds with the obvious money spent on the mask.
She realised her gaze had notably drifted from his, and snapped her eyes up from his suit. "Sorry. The plate was probably presumptious of me, but I didn't want you starving out of some misplaced sense of propriety and – okay – I know some of you here have been hired out to fill up the place. Gotta give the eligible ladies someone to dance with while the prince's dance card is full, and you can't all be nobility."
For a moment, she thought she had accidentally insulted some down-on-his luck earl, but then his evident surprise cleared into curiosity.
"What makes you so sure?" he asked.
"Well, for starters, most nobility are either networking" – either with other nobility or the eligible ladies, but Haru didn't add that – "or making a dent of the buffet. Also," she added, and pointed across the room, "I'm fairly certain the local blacksmith doesn't moonlight as a lord. So, fish cracker?"
A ghost of a smile flickered on his feline lips. Uncannily realistic. "Are you offering me one because I'm a cat, or because they genuinely taste good?"
"They're the simplest thing on the buffet and, given the King's penchant for novelty, that makes it one of the safest." Haru rolled a few of the rice buns across the plate. "These seem to be a variety of flavours, so you could try your luck at them instead. The chilli and chocolate one was surprisingly decent."
The man took one of the fish crackers. Haru tried not to stare as she caught a flash of sharp feline teeth, and then again as a fraction of his tension lifted from his shoulders.
She grinned. "See? Food always helps."
The smile she'd seen a shadow of earlier now took a tentative foothold. "You sound like someone else I know."
"Well then, obviously you are surrounded by wise people." Haru felt the sudden urge to tempt that smile out, abruptly aware she hadn't seen a hint of it while she'd watched him from afar. "I understand why you may be keeping to your corner," she added conspiringly. "With a mask as impressive as that, you'd probably be inundated with dance offers."
It was immediately clear it was the wrong thing to say. The blossoming smile froze, the eyes glazing over to hide whatever emotion she'd unknowingly unearthed. "Thank you," he said. "Unfortunately I cannot take credit for my mask. It was... bestowed upon me."
Obviously some history, perhaps even some bad blood, there. Haru's mind skimmed over the possibilities, from patrons to over-ambitious parents, and then decided it wasn't really any of her business. "Even so," she said instead, "you wear it very well."
She tore her gaze from him, not wanting to see the tattered remains of the smile she'd ruined, and instead watched the prince sweep his glamorous partner across the room.
The moment the lady had arrived – late and devastatingly beautiful – the prince had had eyes for no one but her. Who she was was a mystery, for she'd come with no entourage and had entered too late to receive an announcement. The rumours around the ballroom spoke of her carriage being made of pure silver, and the coachman being eerily silent with strange, otherly eyes.
She was the real reason – the nail in the coffin – that Haru had accepted she wasn't going to be having any princely fairytale ending. Haru wasn't even disappointed; at least she was losing out to someone who looked like she'd walked straight out of a storybook.
The cat-masked man must have followed her gaze, and read her face accordingly, for he said, "You don't seem particularly heartbroken by the prince's besottedness."
Haru snorted. "You say that as if the idea of my attracting his attention was anything less than absurd to begin with." She swayed her skirts, highlighting the simplicity of her dress – lovingly tailored by her mother, but still notably second-hand. "The invite may only have specified eligibility, but I think we all knew that wealth was going to skew the scales in the end." She shrugged. "So I'm here for a good time, not a life-changing one."
The man looked on her with a shadow of that sadness she'd glimpsed before approaching him. "There are some things more valuable than wealth."
"I think if you're the prince," Haru pointed out, "you have enough choice to pick someone with wealth and the rest of it. I mean, look at her." And she gestured to the prince's favoured dance partner, whom he hadn't left since her belated entrance. "She's probably a princess, with that dress and that mask, and those shoes..." Haru had only seen the latter momentarily, but she could have sworn they were made of glass.
"Do you wish you were in her place?" he asked. His voice was gentle. Sad, in a strange sort of way.
"Only if I don't think about it too hard," Haru answered honestly. "I mean, it'd be nice not to have to worry about making ends meet, but running a kingdom? Dealing with politicians? Having to pretend to the king that, yes, I love the taste of chilli and chocolate in my rice cakes?" Her last remark teased the beginnings of a smile from the man. "I think I'll stick to the life of seamstress, thank you very much."
"A very sensible decision."
"I do have them sometimes." Emboldened by that returning smile, Haru set the buffet plate to one side and offered him a hand. "Would asking you to dance be another?"
He hesitated. "I... shouldn't."
"Oh." Haru withdrew her hand, her cheeks heating up. "Probably a wise choice. I think the prince is still limping from the toes I trod on during our dance–"
"I would love to dance with you," he said, and he sounded heartbreakingly sincere in such a way that Haru believed him, "but I can't."
"If this is because you're a terrible dancer, then let me assure you we will be perfectly matched," Haru said. She watched his gaze – those uncanny feline eyes – flicker to the dais, to where the prince danced and the king watched, and she couldn't read the expression there.
"I can't dance with you tonight," he said softly. "By rights, I shouldn't even be here. But... if things were different..."
A clock struck midnight, and the gentle waltz music was upturned by a rumble of scandalised muttering and the tap-tap-tap of glass slippers racing across the ballroom floor. Haru spun in time to see the prince's partner fleeing for the grand doors, her flight set to the chiming of the midnight clock.
Haru looked back to her companion – but the cat-faced man had gone. The only hint that she hadn't imagined him was the swaying curtains, rustling in a breeze that didn't exist.
Now, Haru had done some stupid things in her time (including that time she'd nearly been flattened by a carriage while rescuing a cat) but clambering out of the palace ballroom windows after a mysterious (possibly-not-even-invited) cat-masked stranger on the premise of a half-decent conversation and some shared fish crackers, was possibly taking the cake.
This only occurred to her as her feet landed on the palace lawn. About ten seconds too late.
She saw movement towards the palace gates and – committed to this stupid decision – ran after the shadow. She'd just realised she was chasing after the prince's dance partner instead her previous companion when her right foot landed on something sharp – and breakable.
Something glass.
She raised her foot and – whatever it had been before – saw only shards of glass now. The sole of her right shoe was shredded, and all she could do was kick the shoe off before the glass could embed into it any further.
Behind her, there came a cacophony, and Haru slipped behind some bushes before the guards could spot her. They clattered down from the palace and, upon admitting defeat in pursuing the mystery woman, gathered on the other side of the bush. Haru crouched down as far as she dared without risking ruin to her lovely, second-hand dress. She could hear their muttering, unease trickling through them, which only quietened when another pair of footsteps joined them.
"Your Highness," stuttered a guard. "The lady has vanished into the night – there's been no sign of her carriage or her past the gate – it's like she disappeared into thin air!"
"She's gone?" the prince asked.
"Yes – the only thing she left behind was this slipper."
Haru glanced through the bush to see the guard hold up her shoe, its white outer layer now dirt-flecked from her detour across the lawn.
There was no way this could end well.

Worth the Risk: A Smoker/OC Romance - Chapter 3: Decisions
Summary: Kuzan forces Smoker into a much-needed, but not wanted, vacation. While there, Smoker runs into a pirate who's been eluding his capture for years. They decide to put their differences aside, just for a little, and as it turns out, two people don't have to be enemies just because they're a pirate and a Marine. They might even fall in love.
Chapter 2 word count: 5430
Smoker awoke several hours later, his arm still wrapped around Ruby. She was soundly asleep, her lips curled up in the slightest smile. He spent a few minutes enjoying the feeling of her body next to his, then slipped out of bed, careful not to disturb her. He dressed and found a pen and paper, scrawling out a note:
Ruby,
Went to grab my stuff. Couldn’t bring myself to wake you. I’ll be back soon.
Smoker paused for a moment at the end of the note. His inclination was to sign it with “love,” but he knew that was far too soon. He wasn’t even sure if that’s what this was. Shaking the thought from his head, he simply signed it “S” and left it on the pillow next to her. Smoker then quietly slipped out the front door, closing it gently behind him.
It was roughly early afternoon, and the town was as busy as it had been yesterday. With his hands in his pockets, Smoker made his way toward the marina, recalling the events of the night before.
She was incredible. No woman he’d ever been with had made him feel this way. Like his heart would burst out of his chest and electricity was shooting through his veins. Everything about her, from the way they spoke, to the way their bodies connected felt right in a way he couldn’t describe. Is this what it was like to be in love? He had no frame of reference for it, no idea what it would actually feel like. But it felt great. It felt right.
And yet, it absolutely was not right, and he knew that. If anyone found out he’d been dallying with a pirate, especially one with a bounty like Ruby’s, he could easily be demoted, or worse, dishonorably discharged. His whole career could be gone. In general, doing anything that wasn’t actively fighting with a pirate was a big no for the Marines. There had been some exceptions over time, of course - Vice Admiral Garp was well-known for working with Gold Roger at God Valley to bring down the Rocks Pirates. But that was a very, very rare exception. He never thought he’d be the kind of Marine to want to be around a pirate in a non-military capacity. Even if that pirate was gorgeous and kind and apparently really liked him.
She was still a pirate. He was still a Marine. No matter what they had agreed upon the night before. In two weeks, life would go right back to the way it was. Forcing back the logical part of his brain that told him to end it immediately, he was determined to enjoy every second he could get with her. What would happen in two weeks when he had to return to base, they’d figure out later. He felt too good - she felt too good - for him to just give it up immediately. This was his vacation, and goddammit he deserved to enjoy himself.
Smoker reached the boat and gathered his things, stuffing them into a large duffel bag. Some items like his motorcycle would remain there until he needed them, but he had enough to get by. He then made his way back through town. Two blocks from Ruby’s house, he came upon a flower stall manned by a plump older woman, her dark hair tied back in a long braid. Would that be too cheesy, getting her flowers? He wondered. Don’t you usually buy someone flowers first then sleep with them? He decided to stop and look anyway.
“You’re looking for something for Ruby?” the older woman asked.
Smoker looked at her, but had no idea what to say. How could she know?
The woman laughed. “I’m Inez, I live across the street from her. I was leaving my house this morning and saw you with her. I’m assuming you had a good night?” Smoker blushed deeply, which only made the woman laugh. “This town owes her a debt, and you’d do well to take care of her. Here.” The woman brushed past Smoker and went around the side of the stall. From a table, she picked up a pot filled with tall, delicate purple orchids and handed it to him. “She likes potted plants. Says cut flowers die too quickly and it makes her sad. She’ll love these.”
“Thank you,” Smoker said, still a little shocked by the whole interaction. He reached for his wallet, but the woman held out a hand to stop him. “No need. Just tell her you picked them out yourself, I had nothing to do with it.” She winked and Smoker laughed.
“Fair enough. Thanks again, Inez,” he said and went on his way.
Smoker climbed the stairs to Ruby’s house and entered. Ruby was wrapped in a soft cotton robe, and Smoker could smell the coffee she had just brewed.
“Welcome back,” she said, pouring the liquid into mugs for the two of them. “I woke up and panicked a little before I saw your note. I was worried you had regrets about last night.”
Smoker huffed out a laugh and wrapped an arm around her waist, bringing her in for a kiss. “I could never. Here,” he said, placing the orchids on the kitchen counter. “I…got these for you.”
Ruby smiled widely and kissed his jaw. “They’re lovely. Thank you.” A beat of silence, and then: “Inez helped you, didn’t she?”
Smoker sighed. “She told me not to tell you. But now I know you don’t like cut flowers, so I got that going for me.” Ruby only laughed and placed them on a windowsill with a few other flowering plants.
As Smoker drank his coffee, he actually looked around and took in her house for the first time. The front door opened to a living room with comfortable, if worn furniture. Rugs, blankets, and pillows in bright colors accented the room, and a style of art he assumed must be local hung from some of the walls. There were numerous plants scattered around the house, some hanging from the ceiling in macrame hangers, others in wall sconces or on stands. Resting in a corner he noticed her katana, the one she’d used in battle against his jitte numerous times.
To the right of the living room was the kitchen, where he currently stood with Ruby. It was rather small, but contained the basics, with a butcher block island in the center separating it from the living room and a metal rack off to the side stacked with jars and bags of dry ingredients. The windowsill in front of the sink appeared to house a small herb garden. On the other side of the living room were the bathroom and the bedroom, where he had spent the night. It was pretty simple overall, and he was sure she could afford better if she had wanted to, but that’s sort of what he liked about her - she didn’t seem to want a lot, she didn’t value wealth as a status symbol. He mused that her home was quite reflective of her - vibrant, but humble; attractive, but practical.
“It ain’t much, but it’s home,” Ruby said, planting a kiss on his chest and breaking him from his reverie.
“I like it,” Smoker said, smiling down at her as he wrapped an arm around her. “I like you.”
Ruby smiled, “I like you too, Smoker. A lot, actually.”
Smoker placed his empty mug on the counter and brought her closer to him, kissing her deeply. Ruby set her own mug down and wrapped her arms around his neck.
“I was thinking,” she said, breaking the kiss, “We’ll shower, then we can go into town?” Smoker moved his lips onto her neck. “We can grab some lunch, I’ll show you around? Oh, and we can hit up the library and find you something to read.”
Smoker muttered an affirmation against her neck. “Sounds good. Are we showering together?” he asked, eyebrow raised suggestively.
Ruby smirked right back at him. “If you’d like, I wouldn’t object.”
That was all he needed to hear, and soon their clothes were on the floor and hot water was running over their bodies. They took their time in the shower, then took even more time in bed afterwards, exploring each other’s bodies in ways they hadn’t done the night before.
Lunch time had long since passed. A growling in Smoker’s stomach made Ruby giggle, breaking them from their post-coital bliss. “Still hungry?” she said, suggestively. “Come on, library before they close, then we’ll get some real food in you.” She lifted herself onto her elbow and attempted to push him out of bed.
Smoker huffed out a dramatic sigh, but his expression told her he was joking. Smoker pulled on his pants from the day before and felt the checklist in his pocket. Pulling it out, he grabbed a pen and made another X on the list:
Optional: Sleep with pretty lady.
They finished getting ready and left the house, hand in hand. For the first time it occurred to Smoker that there could be another Marine around at any point. He knew it was unlikely, but not impossible. He decided he couldn’t be bothered to care just then. The logical part of his brain metaphorically threw something against the wall in rage.
Ruby led him down the street to a short but wide building painted in blue. Bringing him inside, the walls and aisles were lined with books, and the air smelled of aged paper.
“This is one of my biggest projects in town, and the one I'm most proud of,” she said, smiling fondly at the place.
“Really?” Smoker said, surprised, looking down at her.
“Mhmm. After the currents changed, this island became pretty isolated. Shipments dried up, and that included books from the world outside. Trade became weaker, and education suffered because a lot of kids who used to have the time to learn now had to work to keep the place going. So over the past five or six years I’ve been bringing in books from all over the world, and everyone gets to use them free of charge. We don’t always have the most recent stuff, but there’s more than enough for everyone.”
Smoker couldn’t hold back a laugh. “You’re amazing, you know that? Every new thing I learn about you–”. He cut himself off, but the thought ran through his mind: makes me love you even more. Yes, he was starting to accept that he was definitely in love. The logical part of his brain screamed into a pillow.
“So,” she said, blushing, “What do you like to read?”
“Usually about history or weaponry, but those are specifically not allowed, so I’d like to try something different. Maybe fiction, I don’t do that very often. What do you recommend?”
Ruby smiled broadly. “I’m so glad you asked!”
She took his hand and guided him through the library, pointing out some of her favorites in a variety of genres: a murder mystery she swore he’d never in a million years guess the ending to, a horror novel about a deranged woman who kidnaps he favorite author, a series about swordfights, dragons, and political intrigue, and a comic book omnibus about her favorite superhero. After some perusing, he opted for the comic, deeming it the lightest reading of the options presented. Kuzan hadn’t said anything about comics, so he figured it would count. She rented the book out for him and stuck it in her bag for safekeeping.
After the library, Ruby led them back down the old wooden stairs to the boardwalk and into a restaurant, where she plopped them at a table outside under an umbrella. Over dinner and drinks, the two continued to learn about each other.
“So you’re looking to reach the top?” Ruby asked Smoker. “You want to be an Admiral? Fleet Admiral even?”
Smoker nodded, swallowing a bit of food. “I do.”
“Is that just the natural progression for you? Or do you have something specific you want to achieve by holding such a position?”
Smoker stopped for a minute. How does he approach this with a pirate? Over the past day it had become very easy to forget that the person he had feelings for was supposed to be his natural enemy. He didn’t know what they would be when their time was up. In all likelihood, it would be back to the status quo. It sort of made his heart ache to think about.
“For the most part, I’m not much different from any of the other guys. They all have their own, personal brand of justice that guides their actions. Akainu believes in Thorough Justice, no mercy for wrongful acts and upholding order by any means necessary, even if innocent people get hurt. Kizaru believes in Unclear Justice, he pursues justice but he’s sort of fickle about it until he needs to act decisively. Aokiji believes in what he calls Lazy Justice. He’s never given me a clear answer on what that means,” Smoker laughed. “But ultimately Admirals all have the same goals in mind: to keep the peace, to bring crime under control, to save civilian lives, things like that. But for me, there’s….also a lot of issues with the military. And the World Government as a whole. I’d like to use my power to remedy that as much as possible.”
“That’s a noble pursuit,” Ruby said. “And what’s your personal sense of justice?”
Smoker didn’t entirely know how to answer that question. “Well…if you’d asked me two days ago, I would have said I personally fall somewhere between Akainu and Kizaru - show no mercy, but don’t bring innocent people into it unless unavoidable. But also no second chances, no leniency. But then I spent time with this really gorgeous, fun, kind-hearted pirate…and I’m not sure anymore. I’m not about to condone piracy over here,” he added quickly, making Ruby smile warmly at him. “You’re still a criminal, and this thing we have…” Smoker looked down, unsure of how to continue that sentence. He sighed and looked into her eyes. “You’ve shown me that not all pirates can be grouped under the same umbrella. And I genuinely don’t know what to do with that. Sure does make my job a hell of a lot harder.”
Ruby reached across the table and placed her hand over his. He rotated his hand to hold hers.
“We’re gonna have to talk about this at some point,” she said softly. “Us, I mean. Whatever that is. We both know this is more than just a fling.”
Smoker nodded, and brought her hand up to plant a soft kiss on it. “I know. I don’t want to have that conversation. I think we both know how it’s gonna end. But…I’m also determined to enjoy every second I get with you while I’m here.”
Ruby smiled gently as he kissed her hand again and again, leaving a trail down her wrist. “I know. I feel the same. We’ll just have to make the most of what we have while we have it. Do you….I mean have you ever had something like this before?” Ruby asked. “Something that’s maybe a little more than casual?”
Smoker looked into her eyes. “I’ve never been a….relationship kind of guy, I guess,” he replied. “But I did have something close to it some time ago.”
“Would you tell me? If you want.”
Smoker kissed her hand, then released it to return to his meal. “Her name’s Hina. I met her when I joined the academy when I was sixteen. When I was younger I was sort of a troublemaker and she kept me in line.”
“You? A troublemaker? I don’t believe it.” Ruby cut in with a teasing smirk.
Smoker chuckled. “Hey, I wasn’t always the model Marine you see now. I was kind of a rebel, and she was a perfect student. I probably would’ve gotten kicked out if it wasn’t for her. Anyway, when we got older we became….something. It was pretty casual, but also more at the same time….kind of like this I guess. We ended it when she moved a rank ahead of me and I moved under her command. But there were no hard feelings about it, and she’s still one of my closest friends. So what about you?”
Ruby smiled. “I had a….thing once. With Shanks.”
Smoker raised an eyebrow curiously. “Red Hair Shanks, huh? I hear he’s got a reputation with the ladies.”
“You don’t know the half of it,” Ruby laughed. “I met Shanks a few years back, before he was an Emperor. He was flirty and goofy, of course, and we had a casual fling going for a while. Eventually we both wanted it to become more, but it didn’t happen.”
“Why not?” Smoker asked.
Ruby shrugged. “Shanks isn’t a one partner kind of guy. He has a couple of ongoing long-term relationships, plus occasional flings. Everything’s on the up and up, of course” she added quickly, noting Smoker’s surprised expression. “All of his partners know about each other, and he does truly love his long-term partners. He’s big on boundaries and communication, and does this whole thing ethically. He asked me if I wanted to become something more, but…if I’m going to do that, I want to be with just one person, ya know? And I want that one person to be with just me. His relationship style just wasn’t for me. So we didn’t pursue it, but we’re still very good friends.”
“That sounds like his loss,” Smoker replied with a wink, “And my gain.” Ruby chuckled. “Ya know,” he continued, not even suppressing his mischievous grin, “This would be a lot easier if you’d just forego your life of crime. Maybe join the force. We wouldn’t have any problems then.”
Ruby let out a laugh. “We both know I’m not any more likely to do that than you are to quit the Marines and join me for a life of piracy.”
“I know,” he replied. “But I had to put it out there.”
Ruby smiled and kissed him softly. “You’d make a great pirate.”
Over the next week and some, Ruby and Smoker did exactly what they said they’d do: they made the most of their time together, and in the process knocked off a few more things from Smoker’s list.
One morning, Ruby took them to a quiet area on the beach where a hammock hung between two palm trees. Smoker relaxed and read his comic while Ruby read her own book and occasionally got up to swim in the ocean. After a quick lunch of street food, Ruby yawned deeply and put down her book, curling up against Smoker’s side and closing her eyes. He found himself dropping his book to the sand shortly after, wrapping his strong arms around her and dozing off, the gentle breeze from the ocean rocking them to sleep in the hammock. They awoke a few hours later to a setting sun, salt-kissed skin, and each other’s sleepy, but happy gazes.
Most mornings Smoker would wake up early and go for a run through town and along the beach. He had three days where he wasn’t allowed to exercise, but he was for damn sure going to take advantage of all the other ones or else it would be that much harder to get back into the swing of things when he got back to base. Some mornings Ruby would join him and guide them to some lesser-used trails along the island, but some mornings she’d let him go on his own. He was, after all, much taller than her, and she had to work twice as hard to keep up.
Another day Ruby borrowed some fishing supplies from a neighbor and packed the two of them a picnic lunch. They loaded everything onto Smoker’s bike and went for a ride around the island before settling on a spot atop a low crag. Ruby found Smoker’s motorcycle fascinating - she’d never ridden one before, and certainly had never heard of one powered by a person’s Devil Fruit abilities. She was fascinated as he explained how it works as they sat on their blanket over lunch. He was very proud of the fact that he’d built it himself.
“In another life,” she’d said, “You probably would have been a good mechanic or engineer. You’re clearly very skilled with your hands.” Smoker grinned and kissed her, pulling her to the blanket and showing her exactly how good he could be with his hands.
They did eventually catch a few fish, and back at Ruby’s house she walked Smoker through how to filet their catch, and assisted him through a recipe. She didn’t do anything except guide him, and he did a pretty good job with dinner that night if he could say so himself.
And the two weeks they spent together flew by. Every day spent together was filled with laughter and every night was filled with passion. Smoker couldn’t get enough of her. But as the clock ticked towards their final days together, he found himself staying up a little later each night after she’d fallen asleep, holding her a little closer, dreading their imminent final moments together. They still hadn’t talked about what would happen when Smoker had to leave.
On their last full day together, Smoker awoke with the sun and planted a gentle kiss on Ruby’s head as she continued to sleep. He wanted to go for his morning run, but he wasn’t feeling much like running. Instead, he took his time wandering the town, taking in all the places where he and Ruby had spent time together. The bars and restaurants, the stores shed toured him around, the boardwalk and the beach….despite the short time, he felt like every structure held a memory. He would miss the town, sure, but mostly he would miss her. He stopped and sat on the bench where they had spoken until the sun rose when he’d first arrived in town. Smoker smiled, thinking about how far they’d come, and how deeply he’d fallen in love with her.
It was time. They needed to have the talk. On his way back to Ruby’s house, Smoker dropped his comic at the library, now completed and thoroughly discussed, then walked the store-lined streets towards his destination. He slowed his pace, taking time to look in the store windows. He knew he was procrastinating. He knew she was probably awake by now and wondering where he was.
Then something caught his eye in a dusty secondhand shop window. He ducked in and spoke to the shopkeeper, and walked out with a paper bag and a gift for the woman he loved.
Smoker climbed the stairs and opened the front door.
“I was wondering when you’d be home,” Ruby said, leaning up onto her toes to kiss him.
“Sorry I’m later than usual,” Smoker said, “I was just wandering. I’ll miss this place.”
“Just wandering, huh?” Ruby said with a nod to the bag he carried.
Smoker chuckled. “You’ll see what’s in there in time. But first….baby, we can’t put this off any longer.”
Ruby sighed. “I know….this has been hanging over our heads for two weeks. It’s time.”
Smoker placed the bag down and followed Ruby onto the worn, comfortable couch. Smoker could immediately feel the memories come back as he sat down on it. The hours he’d spent with his feet kicked up reading, his head resting on one of the colorful pillows as Ruby hummed softly and tended to her plants or made them dinner. The time she fell asleep with her head on his shoulder and grumbled unconsciously every time he tried to move her to the bed until his laughing woke her up. The time she’d ridden him there, his hands on her hips and hers gripping the soft cushions tightly as they brought each other over the edge.
And now, here was where they’d decide the future of their relationship.
Ruby sat on one side, and Smoker on the other. Farther apart than they had ever been. They both looked away.
“Ruby…” Smoker said, reaching for her hand. They looked at each other, then laughed, the discomfort and the weight of the situation so palpable it could only be dissolved with awkward laughter.
“Do you wanna start or do you want me to?” Ruby asked, looking up at him through her lashes.
“Let me,” Smoker said with a huff. “I just….”
“I know,” she said.
With a deep breath, Smoker began. “Ruby….the last two weeks…..I don’t think I’ve ever been happier in my life. And that’s a hell of a pill to swallow. Everything we’ve done, every moment spent with you goes against everything I’ve ever been taught, everything I’ve ever believed. And tomorrow I’m going to go back to headquarters and pretend like nothing happened. Like my life hasn’t been turned upside down. I….I don’t know how to handle that. I don’t know how I’m gonna do it. But I will. Despite everything, tomorrow I will go back to being a Marine. There’s no doubt about that.”
Ruby looked away. She could feel tears stinging at the corners of her eyes. She knew this was the likely outcome, but goddammit did it hurt.
“But…” Smoker’s hand reached out and lifted her chin, wiping away a stray tear. “Just because I’m still going to be a Marine and you’re still going to be a pirate….it doesn’t mean we shouldn’t try to make it work.”
Ruby’s eyes widened. “You’re serious? Smoker, that’s a hell of a risk you’re taking. If we got found out, you could lose everything.”
Smoker nodded. “Yeah, I know. But…I can’t not risk it. I can’t walk away from here without at least trying. And it’ll be hard, and it’ll suck a lot of the time, and I’ll miss you like hell every single day. Honestly it probably won’t work out in the end….but I’m willing to try if you are.”
“The odds sure are against us, huh?” Ruby asked.
Smoker nodded. “They are. I think we will almost certainly face our end one day. But I’m not ready for that ending to come today. I can’t. This,” he said, moving closer to her, and taking her hands back in his, “This is probably doomed. But I’m gonna bank on that ‘probably’ okay? And if it ends, or when it ends…well, we’ll know we’ve done our best.”
“It’s gonna hurt like hell,” Ruby said through her tears.
“It’s gonna hurt like hell whether it ends tomorrow or next month or ten years from now or sixty. I’m already in love with you, Ruby, the damage is done. Might as well make the most of it, right?”
Ruby huffed out a laugh. “You’re in love with me, huh?”
Smoker smiled. “Ruby…I am completely, stupidly in love with you. And I don’t regret it for a second.”
Ruby beamed. “I’m in love with you too, Smoker. I love you so, so much.”
“So what’s in the bag?” Ruby asked, her head laying on Smoker’s chest as she ran her fingers lightly across the muscles of his chest and through the soft white hairs that adorned them.
Smoker huffed out a laugh. “I almost forgot about that. You did sort of distract me,” he said with a wink.
Smoker hopped out of bed and pulled his pants back on, then adjourned to the living room, returning a moment later with the bag.
“I still had one thing on my list: Buy something I wouldn’t normally spend money on. I’m kind of a minimalist, I guess, I don’t usually buy stuff I don’t need. But I saw this while I was in town and I thought it might make this whole situation a little easier for us. Smoker opened the bag and pulled out two rectangular lamps, each about a foot tall and decorated with a metal filigree design. Ruby took one in her hands and ran her fingers over the metal. “Here, check this out,” he said, grabbing the other one. He placed his hand on top of the lamp, and the lamp in Ruby’s hand began to glow, stopping when Smoker stopped touching its counterpart.
“Holy shit!” Ruby cried. “How does it…I mean…”
Smoker chuckled. “I dunno,” he said. “The guy at the store didn’t either, says they’ve been sitting there unsold for years. But he says they’re supposed to work anywhere in the world. I figure that if we’re gonna try to make this work, transponder snails and mail will be too risky for regular communication. So we can use these instead. Do you know Morse code?” He tapped a few times on his lamp, watching as Ruby’s flashed in time with the movements.
“I know a little, but I can easily learn more. There’s a book at the library. I didn’t know the Navy still used Morse code.”
“They don’t,” he replied. “Haven’t since well before my time. But I learned it as a kid, and I think few enough people know it that if anyone sees it flashing it won’t set off any alarms. If anyone asks I’ll just say it’s broken.”
Ruby smiled widely. What an amazing idea. What an amazing piece of technology this was…or maybe it was magic. She wasn’t entirely sure. Either way, Smoker was right - this would make everything so, so much easier and safer for them…for him, especially. “Smoker….I don’t know what to say. This is brilliant. Thank you so much.” She kissed him deeply, a hand wrapped around his neck.
And with that, Smoker removed the list from his pocket and crossed off the final item.
The next morning, Ruby walked Smoker down to the marina. In one hand he supported the travel bag over his shoulder (his half of the lamp pair tucked safely away), and the other hand held onto hers tightly. They had spent Smoker’s last night on Pufferfish Island much the way they had spent his first - dinner and drinks at Carlos’s bar, watching the moon rise over the ocean, and finally making love until they both could no longer keep going. After Ruby fell asleep, Smoker tried his best to stay up. He didn’t want the time to end, to have to stop running his fingers through her hair and kissing her forehead, suppressing a chuckle when he saw her sleeping face take on a soft smile. He prayed for the sun to not rise that day, but he must have drifted off despite his best efforts, because when he opened his eyes the sun was shining onto the bedroom floor.
At the Marina, Smoker readied the boat and dropped his stuff on board. Ruby had sent him off with a few meals for the trip and a few bottles of the island’s signature rum. When the sails were unfurled and everything was ready, he stepped back off the boat and onto the pier to say goodbye.
Ruby was trying so hard not to cry. Some irrational part of her brain didn’t want Smoker to see her like that again, and certainly not as the way he’d remember her when he left. But she failed, and the tears flowed freely.
“Come here,” Smoker said, his voice low, as he pulled her close to him. He could feel her tears on the skin of his chest as he stroked her hair gently.
“I’ll miss you so much, Smoker,” she sobbed.
Smoker smiled softly. “I’ll miss you too. More than you could ever know.” Smoker pulled away from her and lifted her face to meet his. He smiled, and wiped the tears from her eyes. “Remember the Morse code phrases I wrote out for you. And when you get better at it we’ll coordinate the next time we can meet. I’ll plan to take another vacation in a few months.”
Ruby huffed out a laugh. “Are you glad you did it? Are you happy they forced you into a vacation?”
Smoker grinned. “Best thing I’ve ever done.”
With a final, lingering kiss, the two broke apart and Smoker returned to the boat, casting off the mooring and waving goodbye a final time. Ruby stood on the dock and watched the small Marine vessel until it was only a dot in the distance, then turned and made her way back to her now-empty house.
